She told me to start taking pre-natals. I told her how expensive there were and she told me that I could take children's flinstones vitamins.
When I was TTC for DS, I found Nature made prenatals at BJ's Wholesale for about $19 and the bottle had either 320 or 350 pills. My gyno (a fertility specialist0 checked them out and said not only were they perfect, that was a great deal! :) Just an FYI, since I have seen them around in the same size/price since then.
And good luck!! So exciting...

Ferris,
Awww...he is. I just automatically assumed it was one of the gals. Dougie sure is tall though! Long and lean...
How scary about the tree! That must have been some wind.
Good luck with TTC! I always just took the store brand prenatals. They were really cheap and contained everything all the others did.
Sophia,
Hee hee...I think that was her growth spurt. She grew 2.5 inches in 3 months. DH and I were always the smallest in our classes. Looks like she'll be following in our footsteps. LOL at the exposed boob. A woman of many talents...
I just wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas a & Happy Hanukkah! May we all have a blessed and safe holiday season. I love you, girls!!

Ferris ~ I've taken OneSource Prenatals since I was pregnant with DD. I started out taking a different brand but they were TOO big for me to swallow so I found some that were smaller. I found them in a big bottle this last time so I haven't had to buy as many bottles this time. I've heard of people taking the Flintstones vitamins though. Sorry about the horrible weather last week. I thought of you when I heard about it and hoped that everything was fine with all of you.
DC's measurements ~ I haven't officially weighed DD yet but I did get the yardstick out the other day and she measured 32 1/2 inches. I couldn't believe it! I knew she was tall, hence the reason some of the 18 month onesies don't fit anymore and some of the jeans are getting too short in the crotch. The jeans are still extremely big around the waist though. My child has got her daddy's metabolism and body type (long and lean) and my looks. I estimate her to be between 25 and 27 lbs and most of that is in her length. She's defintely not overweight by any means.
Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah everyone!!!!

prenatals The ones I found at costco are 10.99 for 300! They are chewable and fruit flavored. They have 400mg of Folic acid, so she said to take 1 one day and 2 the next day.
Flu Well I have had the flu since last night, and all I have eaten today is about 10 crackers. I feel horrible! Hopefully it' s only a 24 hour thing.

Ferris,
Are you sure it's the flu? ;)
Meri,
Wow, that's TALL!
Speaking of all this TTC talk, how are things going with you, Nat? How's the Clomid working out for ya?
Ferris
12-26-2006, 09:55 PM
LIZ LOL! I think it was the flu since my aunt was also not feeling good. Although, I did have the tinniest amount of spotting yesterday and still no AF today. I am still not feeling good and I am chalking that up to having the flu. Now you have scared me!! Thanks Liz :p
Christmas Dougie was so cute opening his gifts. He was so happy with his books and cars, I had to open his remaining gifts. He also got the cutest backpack from his nana and papa. He won't take the thing off! He's walking around say "my backpack, my backpack". If you even go near it he say's "mine". He got so mad today because we had to take it off to get him in his car seat! :p
Kissing We were watching a movie tonight, and at the end the people kissed. Dougie said "big kiss" (which is what we call a kiss with noise) and he made his kissing noise. It was so funny! He then went to both DH and me and gave us kisses.

Ferris: Sorry you are still not feeling well. :( Glad Dougie had so much fun on Christmas!
opening presents: Collin had a blast. The only problem was that he'd get upset if he couldn't play w/ it right away b/c it needed assembly. My little impatient man. :rolleyes:
Nothing new w/ me. Just counting down the days until our newest arrival. I'm excited to meet Collin's little brother. :) I'm also ready to Not be pregnant anymore. ;)
Hope everyone had a nice holiday.

Ferris,
LOL...that's what I'm here for. ;)
I don't know which is cuter: Dougie's attachment to his backpack or "Big Kiss...Mwaaa!" LOL! I could just eat him up.
Julie,
Yesterday I actually thought: "Holy crap...it's almost January! Julie will be having Brady in any day now!" :D These last couple of weeks have just flown by for me. For you, not so much I imagine. ;)
Opening Gifts
We really didn't have much for Caroline this year. DH and I had bought her a climber for the yard several weeks ago, but given it's size and the beautiful weather we went ahead and set it up. Last minute, I bought her a huge stuffed dog and an ornament. She spotted the dog as soon as we walked downstairs and immediately dragged him out. She did enjoy unwrapping the ornament, but had more fun shaking the box once it wasout. Her favorite gift this year was a small pink purse from one of my aunts. She carries the thing all over the house, constantly packing and unpacking a little Winnie the Pooh Bear and a discarded Christmas bow.

CHecking in...
Glad everyone had a good holiday and opening presents was a hit. Same here..Ben is officially 'spoiled' due the the two weeks of opening presents between hannukah and christmas. That's IT until his birthday rolls around (well, maybe not IT exactly) but you get the idea. He is way off schedule so i am glad i'm working tomorrow and my nanny will be here to deal with it (and DH too who t ook off a few days until after new years). For those who are off, enjoy the time with your families!

I am still trying to recoup from the holidays! My house is a disaster - waaaaaaaaay too many toys strung about!
DD has a blast though, which is what was important. She's also been singing Christmas songs since last Thursday. It is so stinking cute. Her two favorites are Silent Night ("holy night, Jesus sleep") and Away in a Manger ("away in a manger, no bed"). :) This has by far been one of my favorite holiday seasons!

DD started getting sick last night. At first her fever was around 100 degrees. Then she threw up her milk (which meant a load of laundry of her pjs, my top, DH's jeans, and a few other things). It was 101 when we took it after she threw up. DH made a run for some Pedialyte but DD didn't want any part of it. We gave her Tylenol and continued to watch her temperature. DH called in early this morning and told them he was going to be late due to DD being sick. He checked her temperature before deciding whether to go in or not and when he checked it was 102.6 so he decided he was staying home. He woke me up and told me what her temp was. I told him to call the doctor's office. They wanted to see her so they told us they'd work her in. Doctor said it was an ear infection and gave her some antibiotics for 10 days. It was a struggle to get the first dose down her but maybe after she's tasted it once she'll like it better the next time.
They went ahead and weighed and measured her even though they weren't going to be doing her 18 month WBV today. We'll go back once she's finished the 10 days worth of meds.
18 month stats:
Weight: 25.4 lbs
Height: 32.5 inches

Naamah,
“Holy Night, Jesus Sleep”…that has got to be the sweetest thing that I have ever heard!
Meri,
Poor Sarah! Hopefully with another day or two of abx she’ll be feeling better. They usually kick in pretty fast. And hopefully she’ll get better about taking her meds, too. Great stats! You were pretty right-on with your guess last week.
Taking Meds
Meri’s post above made me think of this: does anyone’s DC enjoy taking meds? It used to take two people to give C her medicine, but now she LOVES it. She gets all excited when she sees us coming with the syringe and sucks it right down. Then, she’ll ask for more. LOL! My daughter, the druggie. The only thing she’ll fight is her nebulizer which (thank God & knock on wood) we haven’t had to use for several months.

Meri: Poor Sarah. :( I hope the meds kick in quickly. She is a tall little chica. ;)

Hi everyone! :)
Meds
DS has always loved them. He spits out his pacifier, runs to me with a mouth open like a baby bird. Then when he gets it, he goes "mmmm" and kind of smacks his mouth a bit. So funny!

So sorry DD is sick! Feel better soon...

Liz ~ Thanks. I won't be holding my breath that she'll love or even just enjoy taking her meds. She's doing better today but still needs a day or so to be her usual self....though I did enjoy the 2+ hour nap she took this afternoon. I've had more than one person tell me that DD was going to be 30 lbs and I just looked at them and though yeah, right. There's no way in heck she's that heavy.
Taking Meds ~ No, my DD doesn't like taking any kind of medicine. The abx smells good and tastes good as well but still isn't fond of taking it. I tried to put some in her drink earlier but that didn't work out very good as she saw right through my trick and wouldn't drink it. Figures. It usually takes two of us (sometimes we could use more help) to get the medicine down. I tried with the spoon and the syringe today and neither one worked. Hopefully she'll start to take it better over the course of the next 9 days. If not, it's going to be a LONG 9 days. For all of you whose DC loves to take meds, please share your tips. It's only been 24 hours since we started the meds and I'm already wanting to pull my hair out with the way she doesn't want to take her meds or spits half of it back out.
Julie ~ Thanks. Yes, she's a tall little one and that's the reason that onesies don't work well for us even though I do love them. She's already wearing 24 month tops because she needs the length but they are just so darn big on her. And pants/jeans are real fun since 18 month are too short in the crotch and 24 month are too big around the waist and keep falling down. She's definitely got her daddy's build (long, lean, and a VERY fast metabolism...wish mine was half as fast as his) and my looks.
Naamah ~ Thanks.
kim ~ Thanks.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm starting to feel the crunch of getting things done and not having enough time to get them done before little one arrives. If my OB has her wish the c-section will be done at 38 wks (6 days after Julie's baby arrives). We are sort of concerned of doing it too early and the lungs not being fully developed. And the other reasons are sort of selfish ones....rather not pick the day but let the baby decide (I was the same way with Sarah's arrival and the thought of an induction wasn't what I wanted which is why we didn't agree to it until the end), we have birthday overload around my birthday (we have 4 birthdays already between the 17th and 21st of January), and the end of the month is always DH's busiest time of the month at work. However I'd like to get rid of the severe swelling and start feeling like myself again. Thirty four weeks of near constant sickness have started to get on my last nerves (which makes DH long for me not to be pregnant and to be my usual cheerful, happy, etc self again). I keep wondering where all the time went with this pregnancy. It seems like just yesterday we found out we were pregnant and expecting baby #2. Blinked my eyes and we are just 6 wks from the LMP EDD.
I don't think I can take much credit - I think its mostly just DS's demeanor and the yummy flavor. I just smile and in a happy sing-song voice get all excited that "its time to take your medicine! YAAAAY!" and clap for him when he takes it. No pinning down or anything like that.
Meri,
For all of you whose DC loves to take meds, please share your tips.
Like Kim, it just kind of happened one day. We used to have to fight her to take meds (one of us would have to pin her arms and legs down and the other would have to squeeze her cheeks to open her mouth. Then we'd stuff a paci quickly behind the med to get her to suck the med down). But one day we just put the tip of the syringe in her mouth while she was watching t.v. and squirted just a tiny bit in her mouth. She took it no problem so we squirted a little more. We still try to break it up a bit because I think sometimes the force of it going in to her mouth gags her and that's when she gets frightened. But now, we literally just put it in her mouth and gradually push down on the plunger while she sucks it down.
Naamah,
That picture is adorable! She looks so much like her Momma!
Meds: No trick here, either. Sorry. Collin just loves the taste and even if he doesn't... he must think it's fun to have the syringe thingy in his mouth. :rolleyes: Wierdo.
Naamah: What a great pic! Shylah looks like a little doll herself. So cute.
I got a call from my OB this morning and they had to change the date of my c/s. It is now scheduled for January 17th! :eek: My mom has been here all week and she left this morning. Collin cried. Awww. I'm so glad he loves his nanny. She'll be back in 2 and half weeks!!!
OK, so i totally just booked Ben's SECOND BIRTHDAY PARTY!! I called this gym place where we are enrolled beginning in january and they are already booking into 2008 and t here were only a few non-naptime times for the weekend of his birthday. Can you believe it? So i left a $100 non-ref. deposit! I hope to be pregnant by then (can't believe i'm saying this) so i figure i'd let someone else run the show and do the clean up!! My parents think i am nuts for deciding these things so far in advanced but they are booking up!
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone! We've spent about a week away from home-half the time at DH's parent's house and half the time at my parent's house. Happy New Year to ALL!
Love the photos, Nat. Addie is gorgeous and getting so big. Well, all of our kids are so big! Weird how that happens, huh? :p
Mrs. Chappy-Sorry about the pink eye. Alexa fought a fever for two days last week and that was scary enough. I'd hate to have to deal with eye drops and the like. Sending pity vibes to you! :(
jmvan-The baton has been passed to you! We are all eagerly awaiting Brady's arrival. :D
TTC-You would think that getting three hours of sleep a night would be the perfect birth control but I think we are going to start trying again in September/October of 2008. If we have a happy ending there, we will be DONE! DH wants a shot at another boy but I don't mind adding in another girl. Everything's pink anyway so why not?! ;)
Liz: There's still plenty of time for me to change my mind about #3, but....DH isn't so sure he wants more than 2. He's the one who originally wanted 4!:eek:
TTC: Not yet. Not sure when exactly. I'm starting to think about it which I guess is a step in the right direction. I always thought 2.5 yrs would be the perfect spacing but now I'm thinking more like 3+ years apart. We'll see where things are in the spring. Of course, between now and then we could just decide to forgo the condoms and see what happens (might be best if I don't try to plan it ;))
I really want to catch up but this week has been crazy! We have been keeping my nieces while DH's sis and her hubby are out of town so I've been Mommy to 3 girls-3.5, 19 months, and 18 months! :eek: sophia I am amazed that you do this everyday! Today I got brave and took them to the play area at the mall. SIL forgot to send the double stroller so I wore Addie in the hip carrier (she's getting heavy!), pushed the 19 month old and made the 3.5 year old hold onto the stroller for dear life. All went well until the 3.5 year old had a major meltdown! Yikes! Maybe this is a message from God about how many kids we should have!
ttc We're still at it. I guess we haven't been preventing since May and I've been on Clomid since Oct. I'm on cd 22 right now and still haven't o'ed yet. And DH just left for a 5 day conference. Uggh. I'm thinking that next month we'll take a break and see what happens for a while.
That's all for now. My 3.5 yo niece is sleeping in the guest room/office where the computer is so everytime she moves in her sleep I have to duck and cover! :p Tomorrow the nieces go home! :D Addie will be SO glad to be an only child again. She did not do well sharing Mommy!
Just wanted to drop off a quick post before I head off to get some much needed rest. Spent 4 hours in L&D tonight with contractions. Baby had not been moving as much as before either. I'm already 2 cm dilated and having contractions. I go back to the OB on Monday, get checked and if I'm dilated any further then most likely we'll be looking at a c-section VERY soon. Needless to say my bag will be getting packed ASAP. We still have so much left to do and hope to be able to get it done in time. Not so sure about that.
They do not expect me to make it two more weeks, let alone to 38 wks. Fingers are crossed that little one's lungs will be developed should he come so early. I'm having some spotting but they said to expect that after being checked. It did have some clots (small) in it a few minutes ago. I have no idea if that is considered the bloody show or not. I never had it until I was in active labor with Sarah.
My contractions are pretty much the same as I had with her...in my lower back. I'm concerned about going into labor (since we are at least a 45 minute drive from the hospital/OB) and progressing as quickly as I did the first time (fully dilated from nothing at my appt earlier that day to pushing in less than 10 hours).
Julie ~ Looks like I could be the one passing the baton on to you instead.
Nat: Sorry that TTC is taking it's time for you. I'm sure it will happen soon. ;) 3 girls! I'd say you've had your hands full. Yikes.
Meri: Sorry you were in the hospital again. I hope your little guy will stay put for a few more weeks. I've been having contractions for 2 days. They've finally subsided, but i have an NST today to make sure my fluid levels are okay.
Naamah,
Obviously I can’t make any guarantees, but I will TRY. ;)
Hedge,
That’s kind of where we’re at. Since we originally planned for January, we’re living on borrowed time. We’re not doing much to prevent, so I guess he could change his mind for us at anytime, if you know what I mean. ;)
Nat,
Yikes! That’s got me rethinking my hopes for 3 children. I think I’d at least require a little more spacing. Yowsers! Sorry that TTC has been presenting such a challenge. I really hope it happens for you soon. I think of you often.
Meri,
How scary! How many weeks are you right now? I hope your little guy decides to hang in there for at least a couple of more weeks.
Wow - i hope everything goes well...since you're 35w1d (yes, i checked!) baby is probably in good shape. Just take care of yourself and let us know what happens. You'll definitely be on my mind!
julie
You're killing me - just go get your test! I was on edge this morning to see if baby arrived on his own. :) Let us know what's going on, okay?
I think this would have been it if we had another boy ont he way as well. I used to want maybe 3-4 kids, but after having Thomas I just knew it was 2. Then trying to manage DS while so sick this time - and knowing my mom got progressively worse with each of her pregnancies - just solidified that decision. I mean, you never know, but I am pretty darn sure the factory is closed!
Nat
Good luck with the TTC. Sorry nothing yet, but then again you likely needed all the energy you could summon up for this babysitting gig! Wow - I am impressed!
I am rubbing my bump on the monitor for you all! If I - miss PCOS whose fertility specialist was *shocked* when I got pg with DS then amazed when we got pg with DD on the 1st cycle! - can get pg, then this thread must have some special fertile vibe going. :) Good luck to you all...enjoy the (ahem) ride! :D (sorry....couldn't resist....hee hee hee..)
julie Thanks, I know I'll get pg when it is supposed to happen, but I guess I just hoped I'd be one of those people who didn't have any issues the second time around! ;)
liz Thanks for your thoughts! We are hoping for 3 kids too, so this week was a major reality check. I've realized that the double stroller is a must if the kids are close together!
kim Yeah, I thought of that too! It would not have been much fun to be nauseated with 3 kids running around! :p Also, if I get pg in the next few months we'll have a football season baby, so maybe God knows that would be too much for me to handle while Keri is working so much......who knows! Hey, what was the name of that fertility monitor you used?
Well, Addie is officially an only child again. Addie and my 19mo. niece both woke up multiple times last night so I am beat today!
Lol! I hear ya - DH's boss was happy to hear i was not due at end of quarter. :rolleyes: Apparently I timed it just right: almost 3 weeks into a new quarter, so its not terrible for him to miss work.
Clearblue Easy Fertility Monitor
I kiss this thing daily, since I honestly believe it was the major factor in helping us get pg BOTH times. Charting isn't really effective for me, and my cycles are just under 40 days long so it was a great fit. Full price its $199 but Amazon has it now for $149 and free shipping. Just make sure whether it comes with test sticks or not, you need them to use it.
I should be their spokesperson, I believe in this product so much!! Good luck, and feel free to PM me on anything TTC-related. Because of my situation, I have a certain wealth of knowledge that could be helpful. :)
Hey, what was the name of that fertility monitor you used?
It was the Clearblue Easy Fertility Monitor I used it too and also hail it for finally getting pregnant. We hadn't planned on BDing that day because the Dr. said I wouldn't conceive that cycle based on my poor post-coital test results. But, that morning I got my first Peak reading ever so we decided to give it a shot. Glad we did! :)
sophia ~ I can't believe your little ones are already a month old. :eek: And you are a MUCH braver woman than me for thinking of TTC again next year. I wish you nothing but great success though and hopefully your DH will get another little boy. My BIL was beyond overjoyed when they got their second boy 4 years ago after losing their first. He loves his two little girls but you could always tell that something was missing and now their family is complete.
TTC ~ We are on the fence about having a third. Right now we aren't even going to think about until DD is around 4 and DS is 2. That way they would be 5 and 3 when the next one (if there should be a next one) would come along. I can't go through another pregnancy with a 12 month to 18 month old. Going through another pregnancy and being this sick with less than 19 month old isn't very much fun. Going along with what kim said, the factory maybe closed here as well. It might also depend upon what my OB says regarding time of delivery for this one (if she thinks they will keep getting earlier and earlier then the thought of having one born before 35 wks REALLY makes me freak out).
Plus we'd have to add on to our house (which we plan on doing anyway but isn't going to be until a couple of years down the road).
Those TTCingers ~ Best of luck. If you want some baby dust, let me know. I'll glady pass some on.
Julie ~ One of my aunts desperately wanted to have a little girl but never got one. They ended up with 3 boys. So when her middle son got married 6 years ago (man, has it really been that long ago?) she said she finally got the daughter she always wanted. Now between her 3 boys she has 3 granddaughters. Just think if you have 3 boys you won't go into debt with a wedding. ;) Thanks.
Liz ~ I'm either 35 wks, 1 day by LMP; 35 wks, 5 days by the first u/s at 8 wks; or 36 wks, 1 day by the u/s at 20 wks. I would rather have him wait until at least 36 wks before he makes his arrival.
kim ~ I'll definitely keep everyone informed. I'm most worried about his lungs not being developed and needing to be transferred to a NICU. That would at least a 2 hour drive for the closest one.
Nat ~ Thanks. I will.
Roseanne ~ Thanks.
Update on me ~ Still having the contractions on and off today. I've been nauseated as well. A little concerned about that because I was sick for about 3/4 hours when I was in labor (during the time I was 4 and 6/7 cm) with Sarah. I didn't get much sleep last night due to my back hurting from on again/off again contractions. Feel free to check in with the Feb07 group as that's where any news about a new arrival will get posted first.
We are dealing with pink eye and double ear infections here, plus i was sick too. Moms arent aloud to get sick! Anyway, first round of pink eye came new years eve. used the drops for the 5 days recommended (i added a day too) and ben had more crusties in BOTH eyes today. I swear, i've been to his doctor 4 times in the last two weeks. I am ready to have a nervous breakdown and its only ear infections and pink eye. I can't imagine what parents of chronically iill children feel like nor do i ever want to.
Mrs. Chappy,
Have you had an optometrist confirm that it is indeed Pink Eye? I only ask because Caroline was sent home with it a couple of times. Her Ped diagnosed it as Pink Eye, but when I mentioned it to my eye doctor during one of my visits he said it’s more likely allergies, a cold, or a sinus affection. He actually said Pink Eye is rarely the culprit, but is always treated as such as a precautionary measure. Almost every time that C comes down with an EI, she generally gets all gooey and crusty in the eye. We continue to give her the drops, but also start her on a decongestant or antihistamine as well. That usually does the trick.
Poor little guy…I hope he gets to feeling better soon. We’re dealing with a bilateral EI here as well. :(
Mrs.Chappy
01-09-2007, 11:14 AM
Exactly, its most likely the result of unresolved double ear infections. So, we are switching form amox to Zithromax then if it doesnt help, we will see the peds ENT. I think its coming t hrough the eye b/c there;s no where for it to drain. We are still using the pink eye drops twice a day.
'Tis the season for ear infections.
thanks for the support
This pregnancy has been different in some ways (so why should the end be any different?) than my first. DD was very high for most of the pregnancy, never dropped, I never showed any signs of going into labor on my own, never was soft, thinned, or dilated, etc. This time DS has been low, he's already dropped (and dropping more each day), my hips ache, my thighs ache, my back is killing me, and I'm dilated to a "good 2," and "VERY soft" according to my OB. The only thing that has been the same is that I have the swelling again and I've been sick both times (though this one has lasted MUCH longer).
We found out that I'm definitely a 2 with maybe a little more progression. My cervix is definitely VERY soft and his head is sitting directly on top of my cervix. She said that she would like to go ahead and schedule the c-section just so we have a date on the schedule but that I probably won't make it to that date. If by some chance I do it's on the schedule and no one else can take our spot. So little one will definitely be arriving this month, no February baby for us. It's scheduled for the 25th.
My hips have been aching so badly since yesterday. Sitting is just about more than I can handle. Laying down isn't much better. I have TONS of pressure (pelvic and lower back). And the contractions are still coming. At this point I'm so done with it and just want him to come. I know it's not right but I pray for my water to break. I never felt this way with DD, even at 40 wks. The only thing I wanted to go away was the swelling.
Meri: I'm glad your little one is hanging on a little longer. I can relate to wanting it to be over and the difference in pgs. This pg, overall, has been easier for me, but the last few weeks have been worse than I remember. The hip and ligament pain can be more than I want to handle some days. There are times I stand up and want to cry b/c the pain and pressure is so severe. I have an appt. tomorrow and I told DH I wish they would just tell me to go to the hospital.:o
Anyhow, hang in there, it will be over soon. Hugs.
Julie ~ You have no idea how bad I wished that my water would have broken by now. My next appt is next week and it can't get here soon enough. At this point I'm so close to calling the office and saying I'm done. And that would never have happened before. I wanted to go into labor on my own and NOT schedule a c-section. At this point, I'm done and would be very happy if they said to come on Thursday. I cried last night as well. And I've done some today because I just can not get comfortable whatever I do. Walking is out of the question, sitting can't be done very long (and then I have to have help to get up because little one is so LOW), and laying is definitely not comfortable.
Just noticed that we are scheduled to have the c-section on little Brady's EDD.
Mrs. Chappy,
Hopefully the Zithromax will help to clear everything up. Even if it’s not technically Pink Eye, the drops do seem to help clear things up with Caroline, so you’re doing the right thing continuing those as well.
I think its coming through the eye b/c there’s no where for it to drain.
Couldn’t agree with this more. Caroline is always the same way when she gets a bad cold. First we notice it around her eyes, then it moves to the ears.
We’ve had a lot of luck drying things up with an antihistamine called Pro-Hist. It’s worked better than any cold medicine we’ve ever given her. She seems to finally be on the road to recovery…at least until the next round of sniffles at daycare.
Meri,
I must have checked the Feb. thread a dozen times yesterday. I thought for sure I would come in today to find that you had your son. I’m so sorry that you are so uncomfortable. Do you think DH could spring for a day at the spa with a massage? An early Valentine’s present perhaps? Who knows…all of this could actually be early labor and you might not even make it until next week. Hang in there…the light is at the end of the tunnel. As miserable as you are, you really want to keep the little guy in there for another week. For now, medically speaking, he’s much better off in there than he is out here. (((HUGS)))
Liz ~ Sorry. I worried more than a few of the Feb moms as well. I was just so beat and exhausted when we got home. Poor DH had to stop more than once on the way home so I could walk around because I couldn't take the pressure from sitting any longer. We've got a pretty good idea that it's probably early labor. I just wish it would hurry up and do something. I could see if taking this long with a first pregnancy but not for someone whose went through it once before (and progressed rather quickly for a first timer). Though it's my luck to have the total opposite type of labor (longer for the second than the first). I know the best thing is for him to stay in as long as possible but I just keep wondering at what expense to me and those around me.
Naamah ~ Thanks. I have to keep telling myself that it will all be over soon (just not soon enough right now).
ally ~ Thanks.
Julie ~ I'm sort of thinking that way as well. It's scheduled for next Wednesday right? If so that's also our niece's birthday. She's already said how cool it would be to have her cousin be born on her birthday. Of course the the next day is her dad's (DH's middle brother), then Friday is mine, and Monday is another niece's birthday (DH's youngest brother's DD).
Update ~ I'm going to take some Tylenol PM tonight. If nothing is changed tomorrow I'll be calling the office again (which is what they said to do). At this point I'm miserable and just want to be done. I never thought those words would come out of my mouth. I want him to stay inside as long as possible so as not to make the first few hours/days more critical or more at risk than need be.
The pelvic pressure continues to increase, I can't sit or lay down for more than about 15 minutes (max) at a time. Something that just started tonight has been the upper thigh cramping.
My mother's helper started on Tuesday. She's a college student studying early childhood ed. She'll be here 2 days a week (4 hours each day) to help w/ DS#1, so I can have some time to focus on DS#2. I already love her and so does Collin! Anyhow, I have an NST this afternoon, so it works out perfectly that she'll be here to watch Collin. Much stress off my shoulders. I am a little nervous b/c I've never left him w/ anyone other than family before...Sadly, I feel a little more secure leaving him w/ her than w/ MIL! LOL!
Does anyone else have a sleep talker?
Collin has been so restless at night, but I honestly don't think he's awake and I often here him talking. I was thinking it may be developmental. Kind of like when they are learning to stand, they often do it at night...well maybe it's the same w/ talking! LOL!
Last night he went to bed at 7:00. All was quiet. Around 8:45 we hear him talking and then he is seriously laughing! :D I have no clue what he was doing. It is dark in his room (no nightlight), he does have the aquarium, but I couldn't hear it, so I don't think it was on. Jason and I just looked at each other and laughed. About 40 minutes later it was quiet again. :confused: Jason did go in at one point to make sure he had his pacifiers and he was sitting up, but didn't seem to acknowledge that Jason was there. Is my kid possessed? LOL!
Sleep Talker: I've heard Brady talk like that in the morning when I don't think he's awake (at least not fully) yet. It totally makes sense to me that they would talk in their sleep and I think your right on thinking it is developmental.
Mrs.Chappy
01-13-2007, 11:14 AM
Sleep talker..so funny you mention it..last night we put ben to bed at 7:30..by 8:45 he was still talking, intermittently. DH went in and i think he woke ben up..he thinks been was sleep talking b/c he was in his sleep position with his doggie and the paci in his mouth still as anything but then sensed DH there and said hi dad. Anyway, we will see if this theory of ours continues.
01-13-2007, 12:01 PM
sleep talker ~ Yes, we've got one around here. DD has laughed and talked in her sleep before. At first when she started doing it I thought she was awake but then I could plainly see that her eyes were still closed and she was sleeping.
Update ~ Last night after I had a very severe pain (worse than anything I went through during labor and delivery with DD). We decided not to risk driving the 45 minutes to the other hospital and just went to our local hospital (the nurse at my OB's office had told me to do that since the roads were so bad). At first they weren't real happy that we were there (one person DH talked to hung up the phone on him when he told them my doc was in another town. He called back and talked to a different nurse and explained. He told us to come right on out). I was checked by the on call doc who said that I was a little over 2 cm now, still VERY SOFT, and that the leg pain was most likely either a muscle/liagment strain or inflammation. She gave me some pain pills since I hadn't been sleeping well. I've since had two more episodes of the severe pain in my groin area.
Julie ~ Maybe my OB will take pitty on me and move up our date with everything that has happened. If not, we may talk about the possibility of moving up the date. I just threw up all the water I drank. How much fun!
bumping this off page 2 ;)
Lots has been going on around here and I had to come update. nope, not pg yet
First of all we've had snow and ice and freaking cold temperatures here for about 5 days. All you northerners can make fun of me, but 26 is soooo cold! The great thing is that DH got to stay home today because school was cancelled! Yippee! He was just like a little boy waking up early to watch for his school district's name on the cancellation list! We had a fun family day today.
In other news Addie has moved to a big girl bed. She climbed/fell out of the crib last week :eek: and I hated being worried that she might hurt herself, so we converted her crib to a toddler bed last night. She has been sleeping horribly lately. The past 2 nights she's woken up at 11p or 12a crying 'mama' over and over. So she's been sleeping with us, or when DH can't take it anymore (she hogs his side of the bed) we've been sleeping in the guest bed. I am so exhausted and tired of it! I'm so afraid I'll end up on Supernanny in a few years and I'll be sleeping with all of our kids at night! eek! So tonight I have to be strong and keep putting her back in her bed. Wish me luck! :rolleyes:
We've also decided to put our house on the market. Here's what I wrote in another thread...
I can't believe I'm posting, but here we go . . .
DH and I decided last Sunday to put our house on the market. We met with a realtor yesterday and hope to get it listed by this Friday!
DH is looking for new jobs, he doesn't want to stay with his current job after this year. (He is a teacher/coach) He doesn't have any offers yet, but I am confident that he will get a great job and also confident that it is our time to move on. So, we're listing our house and if it sells quickly (fingers crossed) we may have to live in an apartment for a few months until his contract here is up. Originally I didn't want to list the house until he had a new job, but he was out of town for 5 days last week and I really missed him. If we waited until April/May to list I would probably have to stay here and sell the house while he moved for his new job and I just don't want to do that!
I've been frantically cleaning, organizing, revamping, etc our house and praying hard that it sells! We are listing in Friday, so I'm hoping for a few showings this weekend.
meri how are you hanging in there?
julie I guess Brady is here by now. Welcome to the world Brady! :) Can't wait to see pics!
I grew up in New England but am a pure cold weather wimp at heart, so YES the 20's are COLLLLLD! I hear ya! And I never really thought that people in warm areas just don't know the absolute thrill of hearing snow cancellations on tv/radio. There's nothing like it. :p
Sorry not pg yet, but hopefully all the bumps you are clearly peeking at in the other thread ;) are sending out good vibes to you.
As for the big girl bed - fugeddabouddit. Once Thomas jumped out I just got the crib tent and have been sleeping soundly ever since. I just can't imagine trying to get him to stay in a toddler bed yet! I know this is nerdy of me to ask, but are there any books on how to teach your kid to stay in a big-kid bed?? And if it doesn't work, are you totally opposed to putting a crib tent in instead?
So you liked my lubed-up bump? :cool: I feel good, finally! And as for the house hunt there are lots of houses where we want and in our budget, but someoen needs to buy our condo first! Unless anyone here wants to cover our mortgage for us?? Anyone??? ;) We had an Open House Sunday that went well, but still its a hard time to sell in my building - it sells best in warm weather and ummm windy January cold doesn't exactly count as warm, lol! Then we had to cancel a buyer visit on Monday & a Broker's Open Hosue on Wednesday due to the flu my boys have. So fingers crossed, ladies....
Sleep Talking
I have a Sleep Laugher. He actually wakes me up at times giggling or laughing right out loud. Wouldn't suprise me, though, since i am a BIG sleep talker.
Stomach virus
Well on Saturday i accidently let DS drink a whole cup of spoiled milk so it was a vomit-fest all afternoon. But then the diarrhea kept going through the weekend so on Monday I brought him to the Ped's and he got that nasty stomach virus on top of it! And of course Monday dH woke up with it too. So I have been dealing with two VERY cranky poopy boys All. Week. Long. And I have been stuck inside - literally, not stepped out the door - since I got back on Monday from the Ped's. AHHHHHHHH!!! SAVE ME! I am climbing the walls! At least its freaking freezing out so its not like I am missing out on any lovely weather....
Its like having a newborn though, so I guess its good practice. I change about 10-15 diapers a day. Good times. :rolleyes:
kim I don't think the crib tent would work for us since Addie's bed has curved sides and none of the sides are the same.
We had better luck with the toddler bed last night. She woke up very briefly at 11 and then slept until 3. At 3 I got up and put her back to bed 4 or 5 times before I nudged DH. He took a blanket in her room and slept on the floor and she went right back to sleep! :p
Nat,
I thought of you the other day when I saw TX on the news. We got a little bit of frozen precip last night, but it didn't amount to anything. To think a couple of weeks ago we were swapping stories about riding in the car with the a/c on. Wow...I can't believe that Addie has moved on to a big girl bed!! I'm sorry the transition has been rough. Hopefully she'll get used to it soon. On the lam again, eh? ;) Good luck listing the house. Do you think you'll stay in the area or just see where the job leads take ya?
Kim,
LOL on the lubed belly. I thought you looked a little glossy. Have you taken to oiling up like a bodybuilder? ;) Seriously though, you look great! Hope everyone gets to feeling better soon.
Julie,
I've been thinking of you and frantically searching for news of Brady's arrival. Hope you are all settling in well.
Meri,
I hope you get some relief and have that boy of yours SOON!!
Things have been crazy around here. Our dog Lucy had to go in for emergency surgery Tuesday morning. They thought she had an onstruction in her intestine, but it turned out to be severe gastritis. She's a walking garbage disposal. She's doing fine now, but is sportin' an 8 inch battle scar and on a strict diet. I'm becoming quite the chef preparing delictable entrees such as boiled chicken with rice.
Caroline is doing great. She started in a new rom at daycare right after New Years. It's been a good change for her and has really been challenging her. her vocabulary has really taken off since starting in there. She even does the Hokey Pokey now! I really have to post an updated picture of her, it's been too long. Which site do you all use to upload pics?
RE: the OB office ~ I decided to wait until 11 to see, if on the off chance they might happen to call me back. They didn't. So I call them back. I tell the first person to answer that I'm still waiting on someone to return my call from yesterday. She wants to know my name and what it's regarding. So I go through it all. Then she says just a minute and is gone. Another woman comes on the line and asks what is going on and my name. So I have to tell it all over again. Then she says the comments that should never been said to a patient. Here's her excuse for someone not returning the call yesterday "they were just too busy and they didn't get around to returning calls." Have you ever in your life heard that excuse from a doctor's office?? Even if that were the case, don't tell the patient that. You stay as late as needed and return the calls or you start returning them in the morning when you get in.
I called DH at work since I needed to give him another message about something else. I told him what they said and he went same old, same old. He asked if I got past the receptionist and I said no (I never do at this office but at my old office I usually was able to talk to the nurse and they always returned calls within 15 minutes).
For those of you who don't know what's been going on, we've been going back and forth with the office because they basically say that what I've been going through/experiencing is normal. Well, if it is then this is definitely our last child and something was totally wrong with DD because no of this went on with her. When we say that we just get the 'every pregnancy is different' speech. I haven't slept for the past wk to 2 wks for more than an hour total each night. I can't sit, lay down, or stand for very long at all. At my appt on Tuesday (they cancelled the one on Monday because the doc didn't come in....how nice. I wonder if there had been a delivery if they would have stayed home for that as well), I'm suppose to stay off my feet as much as possible. Yes, that is SO easy to do with an almost 19 month old. Especially when DH is the only one who can currently drive (I no longer have a license after Friday due to it expiring, eye doc not writing me the new script when I went a couple of months ago due to my eyes changing again due to the hormones, so the only way I could renew my DL was to take a driving test. Yeah, that's just so easy on these darn roads that are covered in ice. Let alone my condition. The guy was an absolute jerk about it.
Still having contractions. Not getting any more regular but definitely getting stronger. The groin pain is getting worse. We keep getting the impression that they think it's just a muscle strain/stretching pain. If only they could feel it they might realize that it's not that type. It feels worse than the contractions I had with DD and going through transition. And yesterday they didn't even bother to return a phone call.
They won't move up the c/s date (or even consider it) is what they said at my appt this wk. She said if I was a few days ahead that would be different. I didn't quite understand that since I was 36w5d at that appt by LMP, 37w2d by 8 wk u/s, and 37w5d by 20 wk u/s. It just feels like we are getting the runaround from the office.
Brady's Arrival ~ Yes, Brady made his arrival around 9:30 am yesterday. I'll post the information on the first page when I have time and am not feeling so miserable.
Nat ~ Sorry you are having to deal with the ice and snow as well. We've had 4 to 6 inches of sleet and are suppose to get several inches of snow this weekend. We've had lows close to/below zero and highs only in the low teens most of the week. And that doesn't include the wind chills. Looks like we've officially hit winter around here. Hopefully all the moisture will be good for the ground (we're still considered to be in a drought). DH and I both have grown up with dealing with cold temps, snow, and ice and it's still very cold to us.
Good luck selling your house. We've considered changing DD's crib to a toddler/transition bed but just haven't done it yet. I'm thinking she'd like it better though. First we have to move some things out of her room and into another room so we have just a tad bit more room in there for her toys (it seems it's growing and growing).
As far as me see above.
kim ~ Thanks. It not easy following along with everything. If they don't move up the date it's a wk from today. And I'm not holding out much hope that they agree to move up the date. They haven't really shown much concern up until now so I don't really expect it to change now.
Hope the condo sells quickly! Hopefully someone sees it and says it's a perfect fit for them. BIL and SIL have their house up for sale here but if they don't sell it after it's been on the market for so long his company buys it and then sells it themselves (with a realtor I believe). They are in the process of moving now.
Liz ~ No sign of him yet. Sorry to hear that Lucy had to have surgery. Hopefully she'll be back to herself very shortly. Yay for Caroline moving to a new room at daycare. As far as photo hosting sites go, I use photobucket. I know some use flickr but I've never checked it out so I can't say anything about it. Photobucket allows you to upload the pictures as a max of certain sizes (avatars, message boards, etc).
Nat,
Awwwww! Could Addie look any sweeter sleeping in her big girl bed. I fear if I were to switch over C's bed, that's not the angelic picture I'd find. Caroline would be knee deep in toys and have pulled all of her clothes from her dresser.
Meri,
Ugh...I hope this guy comes soon. You sound absolutely miserable. Has your Dr. checked for varicose veins *down there*? A coworker of mine was experiencing horrible groin pain in her third tri and that's what she was diagnosed with. Right after she delivered, she returned immediately back to normal. It has to do with the excess of blood flowing in that region along with all the weight. Her Dr. prescribed her one of those belly belts which helped minimally.
Lots going on in here! No time for SO's tonight!
Brady Newell arrived at 9:31am on January 17h.
He was 7lbs 14oz! (I was shocked!)
21 inches long and has a full head of dark brown hair! Wait until you see it! He looks like a troll doll! LOL! I'm so in love with him!
Collin has been great today. He even tried to give Brady his pacifier when he started to fuss. It was adorable!
I'm haven't slept in days and am recovering well, but still very sore. BFing is emotionally easier this time, but I'm already cracked and bleeding! We're pushing on through w/ the help of ice, the pump and lots of lanolin! I hope we get in a groove soon. I'll be back soon w/ pics and birth story.
So I measured Ava for new shoes today (she was wearing 5.5 Stride Rite) and now she's a 7.5!!!! I had remeasured her right before Christmas for formal shoes. I can't believe she's jumped up this fast! She was growing 1/2 to 1 size every couple of months. I even had DH take her in person to be measured because I doubted that I had measured her correctly. Wow- now we feel a little guilty that her shoes were too small, but it's so hard to tell...
Liz ~ I know! My good friend's parents own a shoe store (her DC always have the best and cutest shoes, as you can imagine) and my mother was in there this weekend. The owner told my mom that it is very common for their shoe sizes to jump like that, and they had a hard time keeping up with their granddaughter's shoe size. At least it made me feel better!
Eeeek! Just read this in the February thread:
Just wanted to post and let you all know that our little one arrived on mommy's birthday. It was the best birthday present I could have asked for. We had a few problems (a couple of issues with me during the surgery - very sick, blood pressure issues, anethesia issues - and a few problems with DS. He spent 8 hours on Friday after his arrival in an incubator. We came home on Sunday. I was up feeding him and am going back to bed shortly.
Alexander Thomas arrived on 1/19 at 1:39 pm. He was 7 lbs, 6 oz and 19 1/4 inches. However he is so tiny that even preemie clothes don't fit. We had lots of fun trying to find an outfit that would work to dress him in to come home in that didn't just swallow him up totally.
I'll post more later. I'm exhausted and have a few issues with the spinal (let's just say I'll never have another one of those EVER again) so my back is killing me.
Congratulations, Meri!! Hope everything is going well. Can't wait to see pics!
Congratulations Julie!
Congratulations Meri!
I haven't been in to post/read for a long while, it's been a hectic, hectic few months. Now, there is sooooo much to catch up on and new babies to greet!
So, I wish I had some time to have read some of the more recent posts at least so I would've been a little more cautious...
DS climbed/fell out of the crib on Saturday evening and now has a broken right arm (humerus) just above the elbow. I had cried for days just seeing him hurt. And then, the orthopedist we saw on Monday said his arm might grow crooked! I cried and cried some more. We saw a specialist (pediatric) orthopedic surgeon today and he gave us a much better explanation of his injury and prognosis. I didn't feel so sick to my stomach as I had in the past few days. The prognosis isn't as bad, he gave us much better statistics. But, he did reiterate the same thing all the docs have said thus far, that the bone he broke, is one of the worst bones to break, especially for a child. Did you all know that their bones are still a little soft? DS's arm bent a little and then fractured. That's why they're saying there was the possibility of it growing crooked, lopsided, etc.
I wish I knew/read about the other crib jumpers sooner! DS has never been much of a climber and is usually GREAT about being in the crib. Now, he's sleeping with us. Mainly so we can help him move around to get comfortable in his sleep since he has a cast and sling he has to wear.
Dreshny, I saw your post on Asher's leg. That made my stomach turn too. Especially since I know what gut wrenching pain you get when your baby really gets hurt. I hope he's back to being himself soon.
For all of you that haven't had the crib jump yet or haven't sustained an injury yet, oh, please, think about tenting or changing the bed. I'm so sad we didn't do this sooner. The other lesson I learned from this whole thing was that in the case of a major trauma injury (hopefully this never happens again), to just take the darn ambulance so we don't have to wait in the emergency room and to also go to a Children's Hospital if you can. DUH, it's filled with pediatric specialists... I learned THAT is important as well. I need the new parenting tips for dummy's handbook. DH and I felt so awful DS is hurt.
Oh, and last month... so busy... I had a car accident w/ DS in back! We were fine but we rushed me to labor and delivery emergency to make sure I wasn't having contractions and that unborn baby girl was ok. (All was ok with me and DS and baby girl).
Between my dad's cancer, the accident and now DS's arm. I pray I'm done with all the unwanted chaos. I just want a calm few months before DD is born!
Thanks for the ears ladies. And congrats again to all the moms with the new babies! It's wonderful news.
Diane,
Ugh…I’m so sorry to hear about poor Ethan! What’s scarier is that he’s never been much of a climber. I think it’s so easy (at least for me) to think “DC won’t do this…they never have before”, but there is a first time for everything I guess. This scares the crap out of me now because like you, we’ve never had an issue with her in her crib. I think I’ll be looking in to a crib tent this weekend after Ethan’s experience. Poor little guy…I hope he heals quickly and doesn’t have any residual effects from the break.
Did you all know that their bones are still a little soft?
I always remember Mom telling me as a child that kids bones are like rubber…I guess she was right!
I’m so glad to hear that you, the baby, and Ethan were both okay after the accident. Thank goodness! You’ve certainly had your share of bad luck lately. They say it happens in threes, so hopefully you’ve reached the end of the line. Now it’s time for 3 good things!
OMG what a winter you have had. I am so sorry about DS's arm! I know its hard to not feel guilty, but its all an odds-and-chances thing. DS jumped out of his PnP and cut his lip so there was blood EVERYWHERE...it shocked me into buying a crib tent right away and stop using the PnP. What if he jumped out of his crib instead and broke something? Or what if he never jumped? There's no way to tell what these kids will do next, and how their bodies will respond. Hopefully your doctors are just letting you know the "worst case scenario" yet working towards and hoping for the best case scenario. I know I am.
I am so glad to hear that despite your accident you, DS and the bump are ok. How scary!
And congratulation on your little girl. :)
Golfer_girl: So sorry to hear about Ethan's broken arm! How miserable for all of you.
You bring up a good point about going to a children's hospital. We had a terrible experience at the local general hospital with Asher's broken leg. The ER doctor kept insisting it wasn't broken before we got an x-ray. Which I understood because there was no bruising, swelling, etc., except that he said maybe Asher had a joint infection, which made absolutely no sense at all. He had clearly been injured because he could walk before the accident, but couldn't walk afterwards. But our friend the ER doc decided to smear Asher's arm with Lidocaine in preparation for a battery of blood tests for joint problems. So as we waited in line for our x-ray, poor already-traumatized Asher had bandages all over his arm to cover the Lidocaine so that it would numb him in preparation for all the blood testing. We were beside ourselves and called Asher's ped on call to try to get her to reason with the ER doc. Luckily, the x-ray clearly showed the broken bone, and we didn't have to go through with the blood tests. We wouldn't have consented to them anyway...
Later, our ped told us to go to a children's hospital next time. We would have gotten an x-ray right away and not had to deal with the blood test nonsense.
Just wanted to update you on what has been the most exhausting month of my life. Ben's been sick since New Years with on again, off again high fever. The highest was 104.6 last week. He woke today with 104.3 fever. I was going to go to work and DH was going to stay with him and our nanny but she insisted we take him to the ER. DH was against it. So, i called the on-call pediatrian at 7:30..she called back at 8 and said i should call the office at 8:30 and bring him in and not go to the ER. I was hysterical all morning - crying while DH had Ben in the tub.
So, we were there at 9..they drew blood from a vein in Ben's arm to do a test which takes 24 hrs for the results to come back..then they put a bag over his penis to collect urine. We didn't pee while we were there and we were sent straight to the Hospital for a chest X-ray to rule out Pnemonia..which he doesn't have. We dropped the urine off at the doctor on our way home. When we got home at noon the pediatrican called and said they wanted us to be seen at another hosptial tomorrow w/ a pediatric Rheumatologist...i called and urged them to see him today..the doctor also practices at a local children's hospital and there was a cancellation so back in the car we went and waited for the doctor to get there..he doesn't think there is anything wrong..The basic consensus is that Ben has been unlucky with a series of viral infections one after another..hence the feeling ok for afew days and then the high fevers. Anyway, i am going to try and go into my office in the morning but Ben probably needs more blood drawn s o i'll be home early. I'm exhausted to say the least.
Our friend who has battled cancer for 3 years passed away today. Last week (on Friday evening) we found out that they had done surgery earlier and that it was all over so they closed her back up and told them it was just a matter of time. She told them she was ready to go. They took her home. DH had not had time to go by and see her yet. We were going to go by but with everything that happened we just hadn't gotten around to it yet. I wasn't going to take DS in just because we are limiting his exposure to people (since it's cold and flu season and since he was early).
We didn't think she'd go quite this quickly but I know that once you've given up it's just a matter of time. She's in a better place now and is no longer suffering. Just hope that it doesn't push her DH back into his previous bad behavior (drinking).
MrsChappy - so sorry you're going on a month of this unknown bug!
All their little illnesses are hard to deal with but for a month, it IS very hard. I was wondering, does Ben go to daycare or with other playgroups regularly? My DS was in a few and after I took him out last November, he hasn't had the nasty cold of the week. I hope they get to the bottom of this soon for you or at least it resolves itself soon. I share your agony on pneumonia testing, we did it for DS back in Sept. pee bag, xrays, blood tests and all. It was not fun. Oh, since then too, we've been more germ-a-phobe lately. I think all of those things helped give us a break from the weekly cold/flu. I have dozens of little bottles of Purell everywhere in pockets, stroller pockets, purse, diaper bags, big pump bottles of it in each door of the car, in the house, etc. It seems a little crazy, but it sure seems to all have helped. DS was sick CONSTANTLY too. It's been a nice break. Oh, and he loves to use the "gel" on his hands everytime we've been "exposed". I know it's not healthy to make them totally sterile, but I mainly did it while my dad was preparing for his cancer surgery/treatments, but it's been such a nice break.
I hope Ben gets better soon. I feel your pain!
Meri - So sorry to hear about your friend.
btw, Alexander is beautiful.
Liz - oh, yes, the non-climbers climb when we least expect it... I told my friend about the whole ordeal and she wrote a short article/post about it on her site (http://babysmarts.org/blog/content/). She has a son the same age. I told her that at least she or 1 other person has learned from my experience by me sharing it, then I'll be happy. And yes, your mom is right, the bones are a little rubbery. The doc we got to finally see (after begging for an appointment after we saw that adult orthopedist quack from the other facility) was amazing. He was the Chief of Pediatric Orthopedics. I was so happy to have DS seen by him. It made us less "sick to our stomach" about the whole thing. The analogy he used about adult bones vs the young bones was that ours are like old oaks that would snap immediately. Young bones are like green limbs that bend before they break. And another thing, yes, I was thinking the same thing... it happens in 3's... I better be all done! I'm looking forward to 3 good things! Send good thoughts my way!
Kim - I haven't subscribed to the April 07 mommies thread but probably will soon. I noticed that your crazy boy was born 6 days before my crazy boy... and your crazy girl is due 6 days before my crazy girl... My c/s date is now April 24th! Your to do list looks like mine just before DS was born. Take it easy - don't overdo yourself if you can at all.
Nat, tgr68, MrsChappy, jmvan, liz, kim - thanks for the well wishes for my DS.
Yay!! Glad you found us, Kimberly! I was wondering when you'd make your way over here.
Ms. Chappy,
Poor Ben...the worst is the unknown. I hope they can narrow it down and get him on the road to recovery. You have had one helluva month!
Meri,
I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. (((HUGS)))
Ok...I am still in the process of trying to catch up on everyone but wanted to go ahead and post a few items...
NatRat, how brave are you to move your little one to a big bed. We have been contemplating doing this with Haley but haven't gotten the courage to do it quite yet. How's it going? How do you keep her from getting out of bed when you first put her down to sleep? This is going to be a move we make very soon especially after reading golfergirl's horrible experience the other day. That REALLY scared me!!!!
Meri, I am so relieved as I know you are that you are finished with all of the pain that you were experiencing...Congrats on the birth of Alexander!!!! I would love to see some pics!!!
GolferGirl - So sorry about your little one and his arm...that is so scary. I think I will take your advice and move Haley to a big girl bed very soon b/c she is a climber. She hasn't climbed out yet but I have a feeling it won't be too long. I hope everything heals well with your little boys arm and that he's out of the cast soon!!
MrsChappy, Oh do I know about having a sick child!!! Haley has had EI after EI since she was about 10 months old. It's no fun AT ALL!! I hope that your little one feels better soon and gets over this sickness.
Thanks for all of the welcoming comments...I really look forward to getting to know you girls! I will post some pics of Haley very soon!
Thanks again for welcoming me to this group! I posted this question in my LJ (by the way, I am kphillips4 over on LJ if any of you are over there) but thought I would also post it over here also...
Playgroups
I am wondering what type (if any) playgroup/classes you do with your child. I am considering signing Haley and myself up for Kindermusik and possibly a Bouncing Bunnies Gymnastics class through the YMCA. We are definitly going to do swimming lessons this Summer but I want to do something now!!! Tell me your experiences with any type of group like this...pros/cons. Does your little one like it? Thoughts?
meri ((hugs)) Did I miss the picture of Alexander??? I wanna see! :confused:
kphillips4 I wouldn't call myself brave! :p Addie climbed out once and then was having lots of problems sleeping so we thought it couldn't get any worse! Good question about keeping her in the bed. Let's see we've tried the following: lay down with her until she goes to sleep, pat her back until she goes to sleep, etc. What we've found to work is to do a long bedtime/naptime routine including lots of reading books on her 'big girl' bed. Then we say a prayer and kiss her and firmly say "do not get up". Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't! The first few days it took her 2 hours to go to sleep. We'd lay her down, she'd get right up and bang on the door, play with toys, etc. Now she might get up a few times and we just put her back in bed and don't say anything to her. Good luck!
NAT: i saw that technique on one of those super nanny shows. The parents just put the kids right back in bed without saying a word. The first few nights it took th em like 2 hrs to get the children to bed but each night there was a decrease in time!
MrsChappy: Hugs! I'm so sorry Ben is still sick and has to be poked and prodded. No fun. :( I hope the blood tests give you some kind of answers.
Meri; Sorry to hear about your friend.
kphillips: Welcome back!;) We did a gymboree type class a few months ago and Collin really liked it. We've been part of an informal playgroup for months. Just a small group of mom's and toddlers that meet once a week at each other's homes and we love that.
Ah, the power of suggestion. As if like magic, our discussion of Childrens Hospitals vs. Regular Hospitals came in to play today.
Our First Trip to the ER What an awful day. Caroline woke up with breathing difficulties: wheezing, retracting, etc. It's so weird because she's been fine. A slight runny nose, but nothing more. We were on the Ped's doorstep when it opened. They checked her oxygen levels and it was extremely low. Did a breathing treatment, checked again and it was even lower. With that, they hooked her up to oxygen & called an ambulance transport her to the children's hospital. They were able to remove her from the oxygen once we arrived at the hospital. After 5 hours of observation & x-rays, she was diagnosed as having Bronchiolitis, which unfortunately there isn't much they can do for it (it's viral). They've got her on an oral steroid for the next two days and breathing treatments around the clock.
I've never been so scared in my life. She looked horrible and what's so scary is how fast it came on and how quickly it affected her breathing. Her O2 levels got down to 86 (they don't like to see anything below a 92) and her temp spiked to 102 at the hospital. Her breathing has stabilized and sounds relatively clear as long as she gets her treatments every 4-6 hours. I just did one at 3:00 and she sounded pretty rattley when I went in there. That was after 6 hours so i think we'll do the more frequently over night. Otherwise, her fever has broken, she's eating and drinking again, and is actually back to playing.
The road to recovery is soooo sloooow. She is still running a low-grade fever so i think we'll take her to the ped today for them to check her out. I just want to be cautious. With as quickly as this came on, I want to be assured that she's not heading right down that path again.
Ped appt ~ DS has gained a whopping 2 oz in almost 2 wks. I wasn't very pleased with that but we will see if he continues to grow or not. We have to go back in the morning to have them look at an area on his left groin. It's either an infection or diaper dermatitis. We have some powder that we have to use at each diaper change. If it isn't better in the morning then we will go a different route. My luck it's going to be the bacterial infection which isn't good for a newborn his age. To make matters worse we found out when we picked up the powder that DS isn't added on to our insurance. At first they weren't going to let DH pick up the prescription until he told them we needed it tonight since he has to go back in the morning to see if the powder is helping. DH turned in the paperwork to add A on the Monday he returned to work after his birth. He's going to call them tomorrow and see just exactly what the problem is.
Everyone ~ Thanks for the congrats. I'll post pictures in here soon. I posted some in the previous May/June thread. As well as the Feb07 thread and my journal. I need to post some new ones. I also need to update my LJ. Can anyone post pictures there or do you have to pay to do that? If not, how do you post them there?
Liz ~ Sorry to hear that C has an EI.
I know now too! Congrats!! :D I like these secrets...they force me venture out a little on CC...of course now I'm up way too late, but I'm not complaining :)
Liz: Sorry to hear C has another fever and another EI. At least now you know the cause of the fever. Have they talked about ear tubes for C yet? Brady has a friend who had quite a few ear infections and she got tubes in December and it seemed to make a huge difference for her (which her parents were happy about since they didn't like the idea of putting their daughter through surgery)
usa: Take care of yourself. Were you able to get a pump? Are you pumping whenever you give A formula? I know you are worried about his weight but please be careful about the impact of formula on your milk supply if you want to continue BFing.
Thanks, girls. Now that she has the abx in her she seems to be doing much better.
Oooooh...I found it, too! Congratulations!!! I'm so jealous. I always wanted an October baby.
Hedge,
Not yet, but they are keeping a close watch on her. Everytime we go in they review her chart to see how many she's had. On one hand I kinda wish they would suggest it because I have some friends that have had much success with it. On the other hand, I know there is no guarantee and I'm afraid of putting C through surgery. For now I'm leaving it in the Ped's hands and trying not to say anything to influence her one way or another.
I'll out myself, you ladies are too good ;) I'm pregnant! We just found out the day before yesterday. We haven't told most of our friends and family, partly because I had a chemical pregnancy 2 months ago, and I am a little gun shy. I have a lot of friends in real life and on LJ on CC, so if you know me, please keep it quiet, until we officially announce it. (Thanks, Kimberly! :)). I just had to be able to talk about it somewhere or I was going to explode!
Thanks for all the congratulations and support! I can't believe I am going to do this all again! :)
Hedge ~ Thanks. I try to pump every 3 hours. I haven't heard back regarding the pump so I'm going to call them later today and see what they say. I'm beginning to wonder if I'm not able to BF or simply don't produce enough milk. Last time I thought it was because of the thyroid problem. I've talked to my OB and she assured me that hypothyroidism wouldn't affect my milk supply like being hyperthyroid would. Unless of course I've became hyper once again. That might explain a lot.
Liz ~ Glad to hear C's doing better. How is the weather? Did you keep her home another today?
Julie ~ Thanks.
Megan ~ Congratulations!! I saw your name as the last poster in the thread and I couldn't believe my eyes. I was so happy for you but didn't want to take away from you telling the good news. I hope this little one is a sticky one. I was completely the same way when we found out we were expecting #2. We'd gone through a m/c in Feb (but we weren't trying and were on BC at the time) and I knew the thyroid condition could make things much more complicated.
Ped Update ~ We went back this morning. Doc thinks the area is looking better so we will continue with the powder until it's cleared up. Be it two wks or just a few days. Then continue 3 days after it's cleared up. We can save any remaining powder for the next time. We also made his 2 month appt :eek: as well as Sarah's 18 month appt. I told him that we hadn't gotten around to getting her back in since I had all the problems arise just after the first of the year, I didn't want to make an appt and then have to cancel it while we were on the way to the hospital, wanted her to be over the EI and finish the abx, then she got a cough and runny nose, as well as dealing with everything else that happened. So Sarah goes next wk for her check up. She won't like it as I know she'll get at least one shot but hopefully she'll continue to be the trooper she's been in the past.
Hi ladies-
When I get notifications I try to read up even if I am not posting. Life is crazy with:
1. Selling our condo: I am constantly cleaning and leaving for people to come look at our place
2. Crazy Child: He has decided to start getting up at 6am, and since I am not sleeping well I am too delirious to compose comprehensive sentences
3. Pregnancy: I am due in just over 2 months now, and am EXHAUSTED...this girl is going through a growth spurt and it is wiping me out
4. Obligation obligations obligations: between baby prep, bdays, showers, and life itself I have no me time
But I had to do a quick shout out to...
