Welcome! If you are thinking 2006 is the first year you will try to see your first BFP (Big Fat Positive pregnancy test), this is the thread for you. Whether you are on the fence or just counting down days, you are more than welcome here. TTC (Trying To Conceive) is not always an easy decision to make.
How will a new baby change your life?
Is DH on board?
Are you healthy enough?
What do your finances look like?
How can you minimize stress once you make your decision to TTC?
Can you begin to see yourself as a mommy?? This group is designed to allow you to ask such questions in a friendly (and yes, sometimes rambunctious) atmosphere. Feel free to lurk, but we encourage you to join. The more the merrier!
Once you do decide to take the plunge and join, please list your stats in RED in your first post.

*This is a collection of tips, not a to-do list. If it's your first month, take a deep breath and see what your body can do by itself! Of course, some of these are good ideas even during your first month-- like taking PNV for 3 months prior to BD. Use your common sense!
CM supporting tricks
1. Grapefruit juice: Supposedly helps boost CM production. Plus, it's just good for you.
2. Robitusin: Robitussin is a brand name of a product that is based on guaifenesin, an expectorant. There are other guaifenesin based cough syrups also (Equate also has one). It is used in TTC to thin the CM mucus to make it more sperm-friendly. 1-2 tsp. twice daily until ovulation. Make sure the product only contains guaifenesin without added decongestants or antihistamines, which could dry your CM.
BEWARE extromethorphan, an ingredient in some cough medicines, may cause birth defects. (from: tryingtoconceive.com)
3. Green Tea: Reputedly also helps with EWCM. Drink as much as possible starting CD1 up to O. I think there are also capsules out there. Consider decaf if you don' usually have caffeine.
4. Stop taking antihistamines: Claritin, etc. dry you up. Stop taking them a couple weeks before O if you can.
5. Take Evening Primrose Oil: EPO is used to increase the amount of EWCM. The dose is 3000 mg once daily. Discontinue EPO when your thermal shift occurs as it can cause uterine contraction which may hinder implantation of the embryo in the uterus. (Also taken from: tryingtoconceive.com).
Nutritional Tricks
6. Prenatals 3+ months prior: Folic acid prevent neural tube defects
7. Men's multi with zinc, A, selenium for DH: Supports spermies
8. No Caffeine: Research shows that too much caffeine can reduce your ability to absorb iron and increase your risk for stillbirth. Avoid coffee, tea, and colas or switch to decaf to increase your chances of getting pregnant. If you are a complete caffeine junkie, then the safe limit would be a cup a day. Try switching to a milkshakes which will boost your calcium as well and assist in conception. (from babyhopes.com).
9. No (or little) refined sugars and carbs: because it isn't good for you? What else?
10. Yams: possible chemical that encourages ovulation... and maybe hyperovulation (think fraternal twins)
11. No Peas: from maplekitty's post on page 2: "...a study conducted in India...what they discovered was that a natural chemical found in peas - called M-xylohydroquinone - did appear to have contraceptive effects....were found to cut pregnancy rate up to 60 percent. In men, who took the pea capsule, sperm counts droped by some 50 percent."
12. No soy or avacados: interferes/mimics estrogen production
13. No peanutbutter and no spinach: Apparently they deplete calcium, which is really important in building a baby.
14. pineapple during LP: Helps with implantation???
Exercise Tricks
15. Regular Exercise: (30 minutes 4 days a week). You shouldn't start a new exercise program when pregnant, but you can continue one; many women think it helps with labor and energy during PG
16. Kegel's Exercises:L&D easier, bladder control is a good thing
17. Tummy Crunches: L&D easier
Pre-conception Visit Issues
18. Rubella Vaccination:* make sure you're still immune from childhood immunizations; not a good thing to catch while PG
19. Renew Tetanus Shot: can't get one while PG even if you do step on a rusty nail.
20. Consider the cystic fibrosis testing question.: visit that link.
21. Consider getting a Flu Shot: Getting a really high fever in early pregnancy is no good.
22. Visit http://www.babycenter.com/refcap/pre...=68&submit.y=5
*for more info on vaccinations, as well as other pre-TTC advice, see here:
CC "What to do before TTC" thread
[B]Miscellaneous Tricks & Advice
23. Red Raspberry Leaf Tea: Helps tone the uterus and muscles of the pelvic region. Also a highly nutritive ingredient and "powerful fertility-promoting herb, especiallly when used with pepermint".
24. Consider baby aspirin: see tryingtoconceive.com. (End of the page.)
25. Start a baby/pregnancy binder: There is so much to know! Might as well use your anxious waiting time productively.
26. X-Rays: Get dental xrays done if it's been a long time; no xrays while PG.
27. Go Horseback Riding: no horseback riding while PG
28. Chart!: know that window of sweet fertile opportunity!
29. Meditate, avoid depression: supposedly helps somehow, and after reading this list you'll need to take a couple of deep breaths.
[B]DTD Tricks
30. BD schedule: Statistically best to BD every fertile day so long as there is no sperm count problem (according to TCOYF).
31. Hips up, headstands, general pelvic up body contortions:go spermies, go! Hey, it can't hurt.
32. Morning Nookie: Higher sperm counts in the morning
33. Get turned on:: the more aroused the woman, the better environment for conception?

Taking Care of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler, MPH. Also known as "TCOYF", and referred to many ladies here as the bible of fertility.
The Conception Chronicles byPatty Doyle Debano, Courtney Edgerton Menzel, Shelly Dicken Sutphen
Reviewed by: eli1126 (Beth)
Overall this book is mainly about couples who can't get pg without medical assistance. It is informative for those who may want to see a step by step process for dealing with IF.
What I didn't like about the book:
-Not everyone deals with IF and it comes off as being that it's so difficult to get pg that *everyone* may have problems and or need medical assistance to conceive.
-tends to be glib about the message boards. Yes baby dust may be corny to some, but well wishes never go out of style.

From j*east:
I've only bought The Mother of All Pregnancy Books. I'm planning to get as many as I can from the library first. I love books, but some are just worth reading once and some I'll consult often.
Here are the titles I've previewed and will probably buy:
Misconceptions by Naomi Wolf
Birthing from Within by Pam England
Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way by Susan McCutcheon
The Whole Pregnancy Handbook by Joel Evans
Still need to preview:
TCOYF
The Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth by Henci Goer
Husband Coached Childbirth by Robert Bradley
Ina May's Guide to Childbirth by Ina May Gaskin
Pregnancy, Childbirth, and the Newborn by Penny Simkin
Previewed and won't buy:
What To Expect When You're Expecting
Your Pregnancy Week by Week by Glade Curtis
I'm aiming for NCB, so that definitely influences my thinking. I'll almost definitely be using a birth center and MW, so I look for books that are open to that and not just, "Go to the hospital and get an epidural." I need more information!
From Lynzy AHL:
Skimmed/Read first 9 chapters of Hanci Goer's Thinking Woman's guide to a better birth (I think that's the title) Review: Very informative and sites TONS of references for PRO nat. Non-invasive birth. Would purchase just to use as reference to reinforce birth plan with caregiver and hospital staff.
Mayo Clinic Complete Book of Pregnancy & Baby's First Year - FREE from my state farm agent
** Very clinical and science fact based. Lists many of the standards of maternal/prenatal care and common afflictions
Thinking Womens Guide to a Better Birth - Henci Goer
** PRO natural child birth. States Pros and Cons of many common practices. Great resource for reinforcing birth plan with practitioner/hospital
Spiritual Midwifery - Ina May Gaskin
** Ugh this book is different. Many natural birth stories to inspire if you can look past the pictures of hippy chicks with longer pit hair than your husband's. Back was filled with more science/medical information for midwives. A little to do-it-myself.
The Nursing Mother's Companion - by Kathleen Huggins
** Very little to do with latching/good habits but HUGE amts of focus on issues and corrections. Helpful reference AFTER birth
29th August, 2005. 10:35 pm. BABY BOOK REVIEWS THUS FAR (Con't.)
Hypno Birthing - The Mongan Method - Marie F. Mongan
**Not bad gives some very good insites and techniques for relaxing includes CD
Husband~Coached Childbirth - Robert Bradley
*** Right on par with my thoughts on labor and delivery will read this and hopefully take the class if I can talk my husband into 12 weeks of classes if not I'm going to need a birth partner I'll be accepting volunteers next JULY HAHA
Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way - Susan McCutcheon
*Read above said book and leaved the dated photos of this one behind. Basically reads like classroom instruction
Easing Labor Pain, The complete guide to a more comfortable and rewarding Birth - Adrienne B Lieberman
* Worth reading, but from the library
Planning for Pregnancy, Birth,& Beyond - American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists
*** Planning on buying this in the next few weeks as it has whole section on pre-conception like the mayo clinic book but less clinical
Pregancy SUCKS - Joanne Kimes
Pregancy SUCKS for Men - Joanne Kimes
*** FUN pregancy books want them both and to use the second book to announce my BFP to Dan
Complete book of Breastfeeding - Marvin S Elger
Liked the nursing mother's companion layout and style much better
Womanly art of Breastfeeding - TIT NAZIS err I mean LaLeche League International
Uh I got it breast is best other than that I like the Nursing mother's companion better and it beats the dated pics in this one worth checking out from library for the info but not worth my hard earned bucks to buy
Gentle Birth Choices - Barbara Harper
*** CD - Appendix - Chapter devoted to Water Birth (www inntertradions com for related books/information)

We're still aiming for October, but I pulled a chart of due dates, and I don't think we'd want to get pg until November at the ABSOLUTE earliest.
I've been taking prenatals and they give me terrible heartburn -- does anyone have a rec for good ones?
Hi Girls... long time no talk! :)
I'm pretty sure I O'ed yesterday (I can feel it--how convenient).... hubby was away, so next month we begin operation baby. OMG! I wasn't really ready this month anyway (go figure).
PRENATALS: I find with mulit-vitamins that it is best to take them on a full stomach to avoid any unpleasent side effects!

Target's brand of prenatals called Rainbow Light have been very highly recommended by multiple ladies over in the pregnancy threads. :)

Trust me, my jaw hit the floor when he told me that he wanted to be a dad. I was kind of scared about the idea at first, but I'm okay with it now. I finished my last pack of BC on 8/13 and STILL WAITING for AF to show up. We can't TTC till I have at least one normal cycle, so this is a little upsetting to me. I just want my cycle to be normal so we can move on this little project! :)

Any thoughts on this: I STARTED my period (first on since going off the pill) August 15. I started spotting on August 28 and now it’s like I’m having a light period. I don’t think I’ve O’ed yet. Am I having another period? It’s been mostly brownish blood, so that means it’s old, right?
Also, we’re going to start TTC in September!

My first month off BCP I had my period then about a week later I had spotting for about 3-4 days, then it went away, then it was time for AF again...coming off bcp can do strange things!

Thanks for the response. Now that our time is getting close, I just don't want to find out I have huge issues that are going to make getting PG hard. I know we all feel that way.
I found out yesterday that 3 of my friends are expecting. Two of them are on #3, one is on #2.

Yep! Couldn't agree more.
I don't know if I ovulated or not:confused:. I had the O pains, temp. dropped, climbed somewhat but not a lot. FF didn't detect O either. I started noticing a few months ago that I stopped getting EWCM and my post O temps. have been pretty weak when they use to get into the mid-98s when I was charting a year ago. I'm going to try to eat better and drink green tea to see if that helps.
Good luck to those TTC this month!

Julss05 - If you discard the temp on CD12 does it show O?
This thread is getting more quiet, probably b/c most of us have moved to the TTC, SWH or Mommy threads. Anyway, I thought I'd throw out a new QOTD, feel free to add your own.
QOTD: Have you heard of any "must-have" baby gear. If so what, why, where and how much? :)
I'll go first:
What: Bumbo, a infant chair.
Where: http://www.bumboseat.com
Why: It's cute and I think it's nice to have your baby at eye level when you're in the kitchen, etc.
How much: $39

honeygirl- I discarded CD12's temp. but it still didn't draw a line. Although this wouldn't be the first time FF didn't detect O when I did. My guess is I ovulated between CD13-15. Isn't there a rule in TCOYF book that says if your temps. are .3 higher than the rest of the temps. that is considered post-o?
QOTD: Have you heard of any "must-have" baby gear. If so what, why, where and how much?
The first thing that came to my mind was the vibrating baby chair AKA bouncer in that episode of "Sex and the City" where Miranda's neighbor comes over to help her after a sleepless night and says "the chair" is a MUST. It's season 5, episode 72 if anyone is wondering. You can bet I'm going to try one of those out!:D A link to one on Amazon is below, it runs about $35 but I think that is worth peace of mind.

or if you don't travel much and want something more sturdy (like vacation for a week at the in laws out of state) they still make porta-cribs - sell for around 200 + 20 for an extra thick pad at BRU and they're made of all wood construction so you can use them past the 35lb rec. weight limit on a P&P

We are starting TTC in a month, on our anniversary trip. Had an ultrasound to check for fibroids since having them removed five years ago. At the time my uterus was 20 centimeters long, and now it is down to eight, which is so much better. The largest current fibroid is one inch, so I think all will be good. Have to call the doctor back on Tuesday now that she has had time to review all the pics!

Well I have been seriously MIA lately!! Sorry Honey about the Threadmistress duties. Thanks for setting up the new thread!!
My grandmother passed away last Sunday so I was at her funeral last week and just came home this Sunday. It was hard but so glad I went - traveled to West Virginia for the services.
Now I am in FULL Blown moving mode!! We move Sept 22 and I'm moving my mom this Friday (as we are FINALLY getting separate places). So I'm a busy girl. Not much time for internet.
Too much going on. We've decided to just hold off the TTCing until after the move so hopefully October will look like a decent month. Too hard with the move and then relying on me SO much to help out this time around. It only makes sense.
So, I will try to stop by here and there to catch up. I should be back to normal late October with posting and Threadmistress duties!!!
Hope you all are doing well. Welcome to the NEWBIES and Congrats to the BFP!! Hope these last 4 months bring TONS of BFP our way!!

Lady: I'm sorry about your grandmother's passing :( Hopefully moving will be easy on you.
*************
So, I started my period yesterday. This is my second after going off the pill, and like last month, it was only a 25 day cycle. This has me freaking out a bit, but DH keeps tyring to tell me that by body is trying to return to normal after being on the pill for nearly 7 years. However, one of the reasons I went on the pill was because my cycles would sometimes be 30 day, but most times they would be 18-25 days. This has me stressed. Also, I doubt I O'ed this month.
Pluse I'm in my 30s so I'm wondering if I'm going to have issues.
I've been reading TTOYF and I'm going to start charting ... we'll see how that goes.

LynzeyAHL & elissa-Good luck with TTC next month!
LadyD088-Sorry to hear about your grandma's passing. Don't blame you for putting TTC off until after the move. Moving itself is stressful enough without other stuff going on.
sea74-I agree that charting might be a good idea. My cycles have been wacky the last few months which prompted me to start charting again and I'm glad I did, sort of have peace of mind knowing exactly what is going on.
I should start my period next week. Turns out I did ovulate on CD15 which means I shouldn't have another late period. I'm eating healthier these days for TTC but also for myself and feel better. Sore boobs, why is when we have sore boobs guys want to touch them?! Have a great weekend everyone!

Deb - Sorry to hear about your grandmother passing. Best wishes on your move, in only 10 days! Having just moved a few months ago I can understand why you want to hold off TTC till it's over.
sea74 - Good luck with charting. I've been doing it for a year and have found the information very valuable.
Sore boobs, why is when we have sore boobs guys want to touch them?
Julss05 - This is so funny and very true! Congrats on eating healthier and feeling better.
LynzeyAHL - How is the progesterone doing? I had a bunch of FPS the first couple of cycles on progesterone. I was so convinced that I was pregnant! Fortunately they didn't seem as bad the following months. Best wishes!
eli1126 - Yes, I agree that the thread has slowed down. I think we all spend more time in other family planning threads. :)
QOTD: What "alternative" child practices do you think you may try such as co-sleeping, cloth diapers, diaper free training, etc?
The only crunchy parenting practices that I'm considering are babywearing and cloth diapers. I've been reading in other new-mom journals and have learned a lot about both of those. We'll see when the time comes though.
Ladies I'm in my best 2ww to date. I'm 12dpo and my temps are really high (highest they've ever been). I'm also really tired and had to pee almost every hr yesterday! Hopefully I'm pregnant, I'll keep you posted.

QOTD: Hmmm alternative child practices...well DH and I are pretty traditional people, but I may try making baby food from scratch, always thought that would be fun and better for the baby. Other than that we believe giving kids smaller portions of food rather than forcing them to eat all their dinner before getting a treat.
Yeah it has slowed down! I can't come here as often because they are pretty strict about internet usage at work.
honeygirl-Good luck your chart looks great! How long is your normal LP? My temps. are unusually high too at 14DPO but we aren't trying yet so it would be a surprise. When are you testing? I looked at your past charts and noticed the temps. were higher than the others plus spotting with a dip, maybe implantation;) I hate to get your hopes up but that would have me convinced!

AF is here, she arrived yesterday, but I'm ok with it because DH is advocating I get a job before we TTC in earnest. Up until now, we've been SWH, but DH doesn't want to actually go all out until I am employeed as he just started a new job that was a pay cut. The only problem is that I have a BS in childhood education grades 1-6 and it's really difficult to get a job in this area. You have to sub for a year or two and get your Masters and then it's three years of working in the school before you get tenure. And it's not the best thing to get pg and have to go out on leave before tenure.

I had a chemical pregnancy last cycle. I'm okay with it, I'm excited to know we can get pregnant. Also was a chance to meet the midwife I'm going to use. It also showed me how ready DH is. I wasn't sure he was entirely on board, I thought he would have started stressing like crazy when I told him about my BFP, but he was incredibly happy. Now I'm debating whether or not to follow "doctor's orders" and wait a month before TTC again.

Sorry LynzeyAHL, a year is a long time to be TTC. I hope that your break is just the rest and peace that you need. I don't think that there is a maybe mamas 2007 thread yet, but I'm sure someone will start one in the next couple of months.

L&D Nurse - How is it going? Did you test yet?
eli1126 - Good luck on getting a job soon so that you can TTC. Or, good luck on getting a BFP even though you are SWH. What exactly are you hoping for?
Me: Well I didn't get pregnant last cycle. It was a bummer b/c I had an amazing chart, but such is life. I see a RE next week and am hopeful that he'll have some new ideas for me. I'm trying to enjoy this child-free stage of our life and not focus so much on getting pregnant. So here is a new QOTD to go along with that.
QOTD: What activities or lifestyle "things" are you and your DH/SO enjoying now that you probably won't be able to enjoy once you are a mommy?
We're enjoying sleeping in, watching lots of tv and spending our money on home improvements. Also, I'm enjoying wearing a bikini as much as possible.
Thanks girls... well it's day 2 and I've decided this really sucks. hahhaha! i have never had patience in my entire life, and I'm certainly not starting now! I'm full of doubts that I was wrong about the timing! hehe... god help us all if I go through this month after month... I feel for all of you who are!
QOTD: What activities or lifestyle "things" are you and your DH/SO enjoying now that you probably won't be able to enjoy once you are a mommy?
Oh that would be sleeping... being lazy.... giving our dog 100% of our attention all the time.
When we aren't being lazy we are renovating our house--all DIY. DH takes the lead on it all, but I'm his trusty helper.... not sure how much I will be able to help once I'm preggo and then when we have the baby.... or how much time DH will have to actually take on these big projects.
Frivolous spending money will definitely not be in the budget anymore after a baby!

QOTD: What activities or lifestyle "things" are you and your DH/SO enjoying now that you probably won't be able to enjoy once you are a mommy?
We are going to a rock concert next month! We are also sleeping in, watching the latest movies, working on the house, giving our kitties lots of attention (they will be so jealous!), and will be doing some traveling and camping before the first little one is born. Oh and having sex anywhere we want in the house, leaving stuff around that could be hazardous to baby, and enjoying cooking meals to be baked or grilled verses popping things in the microwave. While I hope we will still be able to do all those things I know it will be much harder to do with a baby.
magrat-I love your positive attitude. Good luck in the future.
LynzeyAHL-I may be joining you in O7. Hoping for a + in December but I know getting pregnant the first month TTC might be hoping for too much.
honeygirl-Sorry it didn't happen last cycle, maybe it will happen this month. It has to be at least fun trying;). We are still using condoms which are no fun at all!
jen-Good luck! I bet the waiting is tough, I'm very impatient too.
I'm doing an experiment based on the Grapefruit thread. I'm drinking grapefruit juice through O to see if it boosts CM. Next month I'm going to try green tea and then maybe a combination of both to see what works best. Let you know what happens.

That's me! Apart from the bikini :) I enjoy being lazy, selfish, and eating in front of the TV (I'll want to eat at the table when we have kids). I think I'll still be okay when we do have a baby though, because I plan on being a SAHM so I won't come home from work too drained to do housework. honeygirl: I don't know! When I say we are SWH, I really mean just SWH. I don't fit into the SWH thread here because it's more like relaxed charting to me than SWH. We aren't doing anything to prevent, but we aren't scheduling BM'ing around temps and CM. Before we do that, DH would like me to be working so we can pay off some bills before incurring more with a baby. Once I get a job, we will probably move to more serious TTC. However, if I were to get pg now, we would be happy, it would just be more ideal if I had a job first. Does that make any sense?! Sorry it didn't happen for you this cycle. Keeping my fingers crossed for next month!

I cannot believe it, we are FIVE DAYS AWAY from TTC. It is really weird to think about. I am not charting, but have read most of TCOYF and certainly have an increased sense of when things are happening. I'm not sure how I will feel either way, if things happen fast or take a while. It does seem kind of weird that there are so many things we do that will be impacted by bringing another life to the world, but there are also so many times that we are just waiting for that to happen! Anyway, five days and no precautions sounds pretty darn great :D

Grapefruit juice actually works at increasing CM! I haven't had EWCM in at least 3-4 months and had good amount today. Although I have heard women where CM didn't increase drinking it but still managed to get pregnant. I was drinking a glass a day right after my period until now. So maybe it is worth a try. Anyway thought I'd share my results. Happy weekend everyone!:)

Julss: that's good to know. I'm going to try it as I didn't have any EWCM this time around. I've had lots before so I know what I'm looking for.
I'm starting my period so we didn't get lucky our first time out :(
Honeygirl: You may have seen my post in the TTC w/Charting thread, but I don’t think my luteal phase is long enough for implantation. Is that what you were experiencing and why you were on progesterone?
L&D Nurse: Congrats! H&H 9 months!

09-30-2006, 11:55 AM
sea74 - How long has it been since you went off BCP? I looked at your last 2 charts on FF, and yes the LP looks short, but really I'm not convinced that you o'd. Your post O temps weren't very far off of the pre-o ones. If you did O I'm wondering if you have a "weak O". That's what my new RE thinks I have. I took progesterone to stop the post O spotting, which worked. But didn't fix why I have the spotting. That's why I'm moving on to clomid (and not taking progesterone anymore). Now, this is just the most recent theory, but it makes sense to me.
I'd suggest that you keep charting and meet with your gyn sooner than later. Definately join the TTC w/ charting thread, we can help you over there. :)
Julss05- Glad the grapefruit juice worked for you. I've tried it 2 cycles, the 1st I thought it made things worse! Last cycle I wondered if it helped. So I'm still drinking it. :)

I've *always* had very short cycles, unless I was on the pill. Like 15-25 day cycles.
I already have an apt. with my GYN the third week of October. I'll keep charting/trying until then.
Thanks for your thoughts on my chart.

I always have the best intentions in participating in this thread but then time gets away from me. Actually we decided to sell our house before the market gets too soft and try to move into a better house when it softens a bit more.
As for this month of "trying" our schedules were all out of whack and so is my body. We weren't actively trying but not being super careful either and here I am on CD 34 with no sign of anything either way. So DH is at the store buying me a test! It's only my second month off of BCP so I am aware that it could just be that + stress that is affecting my cycle. We will see!
I hope to follow along better, here and probably in '07 too (well if the test is negative anyway ;) ).
Have a great weekend!

Yay for more probably mammas! We all have a little more time to try for a BFP in 2006. Is anyone else feeling a pressure to be knocked up before Christmas? I'd so like to be growing a honeybaby before the new year starts. I haven't even looked much at the 2007 Maybe Mamas thread b/c I don't want to be in it! (no offense to any 2007 ladies). No, you're not the only one. If I don't get preg. this month, I'm out until Jan or Feb, and I know i'm going to take it hard. i'm glad to know the 2007 thead is there, but I'm waiting to check it out until I know if I'll be joining. *nervous*

No worries!! I totally understand. I am just living with the probable fact that I will not get PG before now and then (although we will be trying).
Dec will be a hard month for me. The baby would have been due just after xmas. I keep telling myself if I'm not PG before then, it will be REALLY hard to get thru the holidays (which I know it will be). I am really trying to prepare myself for "that" by already knowing it probably won't happen.
I know, I'm babbling...sorry! Just sucks with the holidays coming up and the year ending!!! So I guess I feel the same about the "pressure" I've put on myself to be PG before the end of the year. Sad that we do this to ourselves. BUT 2007 is a BRAND new year and all I can do it think positively about that.

ugh no... in fact I started December 2005 so I'm one cycle shy of 12 months of TTC. In fact next month was supposed to be my due date and let me tell you that fact that I'm not pregnant again makes it that much harder.

I'm not feeling any pressure although we haven't TTC yet. I could still get pregnant before the end of the year which would be our 1st cycle trying so I'd be estatic if that happened, but I know it could take many months in 2007. I think if I got pregnant sometime in 2007 even if it was December 2007 I'd be happy. Anyone TTC around Christmas/New Years Eve? That is the timeframe I'm looking at depending on O. I wouldn't find out until after the new year! Good luck to those TTC this month!:)

um we were supposed to avoid this month but I screwed up some dates and we managed to DTD on CD 14 and CD 16 I didn't chart or temp and all I know is I'm on CD 30.5 and perhaps just a TINY bit optimistic at the moment. ;)

I was watching a news show a few weeks back and they were talking about how women are no longer waiting the 12 month period before heading to IF specialists. The woman they profiled annoyed me because she made it seem as though women do this because "they want a baby now!" But from being here on CC and learning about charting, I see more women who are realizing earlier that something may not be right with their cycles and rather than wait a year not Ovualting or having abnormally short/long cycles, they want to address that before going through the frustration of not be able to get pg because of a probelm that can be corrected before TTC. I was wondering if anyone else saw this or had thoughts to share?
honeygirl
10-17-2006, 10:34 AM
eli - I didn't see the show but I can relate (sort-of). We only tried 5 cycles (6 months) before seeing a RE. We were told not to wait by my gyno b/c we knew that something was wrong. The RE went ahead and diagnosed me as "infertility - unspecified" even though we hadn't been trying for 12mo. I figure if you know something is wrong why wait?
eli1126
10-18-2006, 09:13 AM
honeygirl Situations like what you described are what I hear about more often than women just running to an IF specialist because they simply "can't wait." I felt like they were making it out to be that women were being "fickle" about it or that we are a "can't wait" generation. I think it's that we are a more educated generation about our bodies and don't just accept the status quo if we know something isn't adding up.
Julss05
10-18-2006, 04:19 PM
if you know something is wrong why wait?
Exactly! I too think we are more informed. Only wish some doctors could understand that. I think waiting a year is time lost that could have been spent on trying to resolve the issue.
LynzeyAHL- That would be a nice surprise:) I always hear of women getting pregnant when they aren't trying so why not you!
I read an article on CNN about a study saying seafood IS safe for pregnant women, thought it was the opposite, but I guess in small quanities and limited kinds of seafood are okay.

Just wanted to check in since I know I haven't in awhile. :)
Our month to start ttc starts in 2 days! I'm excited and a little nervous! We've been going back and forth for a couple of months and last week just decided to go for it and start next month. *No - but we haven't been really "trying" for long. I am sure if it passes 6 mos or more, we'll do everything in the book.
*************************************
Good Luck BsstGrl!!! What a fun and exciting and emotional time for you.
*************************************
Well, I am in my 2 week wait now. Today I am feeling some bits of vertigo and sickness. Like always, I wonder if this is attributed to possibly being pg or just my imagination (considering I've been placed under an enormous rock of stress since Friday). All I know is I will probably test next Wed - Nov 8 (to make sure I'm late and to get better results).
I am nervous as this is the first time we've really tried since the MC in May. Wondering if things will be the same this time around, be real, or not even happen. Too many emotions going thru my brain right now. I've got to try to take it one day at a time but its going to be hard, getting thru this week.
Anyone else in the 2WW with me? If so, when are you testing?

Question for ya all...What is the normal time frame for getting PG? My O day was last Tuesday, we DTD on Thursday. Its that viable? Is it still possible? I just don't want to get my hopes up TOO high during this 2ww, if its not worth it. Thoughts? Opinions? I know everyone's body is different, just looking to see if I was wishing for something that isn't even possible.
Thanks...Deb
honeygirl
11-01-2006, 04:13 PM
Deb - So you BD 2 days after O, right? Really the egg is only workable for about 6-24hrs after ovulation, which is why BD on O day is great. However, the days after aren't fertile. So...if you're sure of your O date then the odds are pretty low that you guys could be pregnant. That said..there are a few "unusual" charts on FF and OS that show some "miracle BFP's". :)
LadyD088
11-01-2006, 04:41 PM
Thanks Honey for being so honest. I am not exactly sure of the O date!! LOL I was traveling and couldn't track it properly - did the best I could. However, I just checked online when my O date would be. It showed the day before we BD'd and it showed the day after as still fertile so I'm thinking we might have made it. Who knows tho!! I mean really, 20-25% get PG in a month so...we'll see. I have one more week to go before I test.
I appreciate your insight!!

I am officially off the pill and started charting. My doc said to call in 3 cycles if I don't ovulate, so its good that she's being proactive. I have a history of irregular cycles.
Is there any free charting software I can download?
LadyD088
11-01-2006, 06:22 PM
Honey - Oh that's for sure!! I will post as soon as I find out anything!! TY
Annette - I don't know of any you can download but I do know that Fertility Friend (http://www.fertilityfriend.com/) offers free tracking (temping and all) so that might help.
All I know is if we aren't PG this cycle, I'm going to start temping again, as much as I hate it! Looking for anything that might help. GL!
