YAY! I think I may be first in posting!

Not too much going on here. Just day by day. I realized that one week from today, I'll be halfway (39 wks). YIKES! Time is going by so quickly now!!! Baby is moving a TON lately. Even as I sit here and type. I feel alot more in the evenings than during the day. Hopefully that trend doesn't continue after the baby is here ;)

YAY for your baby moving a lot, wagsgirl! :D I also noticed that I feel more movement in the evenings, especially when I lay down in bed. I do have anterior placenta, which prevents me from feeling the baby move as much as I could be... :(

Congrats to all of you who found out the sex while I was away. Our internet goes up and down all the time. By the time I got back on, the thread had moved tons. lol.
Chinese Chart--It was right for DD, will have to wait and see for Baby #2.
Cross-posted from my LJ:
So, I had a doctor's appointment today. It went well. I had my physical exam and my blood drawn for the basic tests and the tests for Downs and stuff. There was blood in my urine, so, that was cause for a little concern. I don't have the best kidneys, though, and I have been drinking a lot of pop lately, so I'm sure that's all it is. I lost a lb since my last appt. I, also, don't have good veins, so the doc did a butterfly draw on my left wrist--it didn't bleed. So, she moved to my right wrist, and I filled up all the tubes. Well, this evening my wrists started hurting and I couldn't even pick things up. I called my mom and she told me to put a hot washcloth on them. As I was doing that, I noticed that my right arm is swollen and sticking out like a gooseegg above where she did the blood draw. I can, literally see it protuding off the side of my arm, and that's where all the pain is. Argh. So, I called my mom again and she said to continue the hot compress and if it's still there in the am, call the doc, and possibly go to the ER. Nice. The baby's heartbeat was in the 140's and my uterus is really high up for this early in my pregnancy. The exact meaning of that I don't know, but I guess it is a measure of how quickly growth is going on. Anyway, my u/s for fetal anatomy is scheduled for September 11th at 10 am. Avery and James will go with me, and I am excited to find out--I hope the little one cooperates.
As an aside, I am not so sure I feel like I am getting the best care where I'm going. For one, I am halfway through my second trimester and just now had my physical and bloodwork. I was also into my second trimester before a medical history was taken. I have NEVER had a swelling and/or movement/activity problem after having blood drawn. I had to ask what the beats per minute was. I feel like nothing is real personable. My OB care with Avery was so very different. Everyone seemed excited to be involved in babies and mommies-to-be. I was informed without asking. I felt important and like they cared about me and my child. Here, I feel like I'm a chart and nothing else. I don't know how to explain it. It is just so different. And, I don't like feeling dissatisfied.
Anyway, enough about that.
I only have one u/s pic so far, and here is my most recent (17w6d) belly shot.

Hooray for our new thread! Thanks so much to our threadmasters.

I have an appointment this morning with a new birth attendant who *hopefully* will be more supportive of my Bradley/natural birth. This is my THIRD OB! This is actually a mid-wife group that practices in a hospital that my doula recommended so I'm sure it will be a much better fit. I was beginning to feel very marginalized and at a loss that I couldn't find one OB in my area that had similar philosopies as I have. I'll report back later!

Great new thread!!

Amanda: I know what you mean about feeling like a chart and not a pereson. Depending on what physician I see, I feel that way at my OB office, too. I'm always asking them about results and HB,etc.

Movement: I feel it lots in the evening, too. I didn't sleep much last night b/c DS is coughing again, and I noticed the little bean was pretty active all night! I really hope s/he doesn't have days and nights mixed up upon birth. :p

My u/s isn't until 5pm! So close, yet so far away!!!!!:D

Yay for a new thread!

Julie: Not too much longer!! :D

I don't have my latest belly shot on my work computer so I'll post that later tonight.

Here's my ultrasound picture:

ETA: Is everyone scanning their ultrasound pictures? My husband scanned them at work and they didn't come out looking very clear.

Hi everyone,
I'm back from my new doctor's appointment. FINALLY I have found someone I can be comfortable with. I'm so excited! We have our big U/S on THURSDAY!!! I'm not going to sleep tomorrow night!

Julie--At least I know I'm not the only one. I don't know if I expected too much since my CNM is a "legend" around here or what, but whatever. There is another CNM in the practice that I met with once, and I REALLY liked her--and her name is Amanda, so she must be good. :p Anyway, I'm gonna see if I can get my next appointment with her, if she's accepting new patients, if she does deliveries at the hospital I'm going to, etc.

Good luck with the u/s. Here's hoping you have an immodest little one.

NYLACHI--Glad you found someone that's gonna work out better for you.

Movement: I'm still not ready to say that I am feeling movement, as opposed to gas or pressure. Sometimes I think so, sometimes I think not. And, it's only when I lie down at night on my right side.

Can't wait to see pics ladies!!!

Whoa! Glad I was coming in to post....and YAY for a sparkling new thread! :D

I need to go take a recent belly shot. u/s picture is coming...in about two weeks (provided we get one to take home this time, grrrr)

Had my appt. yesterday and all is well. I gained 7 lbs this month! That's a plus, since I lost a lb. last month. So overall I've gained 6. Not bad! Peanut's h/b was in the high 140's. We discussed cord blood donation (I need to find a company to work with for this; we waited too long to investigate with DD and I regret that so badly to this day). I also had some questions about a repeat C and the recovery period afterwards. In a nutshell, I'm wavering about the VBAC and just wanted to get as much information as I could to make my decision. It didn't help a whole lot, as my LJ friends will tell you. ;) Right Tonya?

My u/s is September 11th, appt. immediately following (I'm assuming to go over the u/s), and my next appt. after that is October 2nd.

Regarding movement, I've been feeling it for quite some time now. Peanut's pretty active, but not as much as DD was. Softer, I guess, more mellow. But still active, and definitely a baby! DH was able to feel it moving around two nights ago and that was awesome.

Amanda - my u/s is the same day as yours! Fun!! Sorry to hear you're not feeling very welcomed by your CNM. That's no fun, and this is one time where you should be made to feel special. I have to ask about Peanut's heartrate all the time, too....but that's really the only complaint I have this time around. Last time, with DD - whew. That OB had too many patients and so I never felt like I could ask her anything - she was too busy flying between appts. Not fun. I hope you are able to switch CNMs!

Julie - Depending on time zones, you could be full to bursting with water right now and awaiting your u/s. :D YAY!!

thechick79 - your u/s is adorable! Love profile pics!

NYLACHI - yay for a good appt and feeling comfy with your doctor! Priceless!

Well, I'm back from my u/s. Everything looked good and the little one was moving all over the place! The tech had trouble getting some of the pics, but there was no problem finding his penis! Add us to team BLUE! We are having another Boy!

Cute belly shot, Jen!

WOOHOO jmvan74! Congrats on your boy! Holy cow, there was definitely some major testosterone in the water when we were all TTC! :D

ButterflyJen, your belly looks great. I could have written everything you wrote about movement, right down to my DH feeling it the other night, except substitute Nugget for Peanut ;)

NYLACHI, I'm glad you found someone you are comfortable with!

Not much new here, except I think my boobs went through another growth spurt :p All of a sudden they seem much bigger, and I even had to get out my "big" bras from when they had a growth spurt when I was pregnant with DD. I'm normally a 34-A or 34-B so I figure that for now, I'll just enjoy the cleavage that these full C-cups are bringing :D

JMVan--Congrats on your Boy!!!!

NYLACHI--I'm glad you found someone you like and who will support you. For goodness sake...what's not to support about Bradley??? Within reasonable time limits, it is probably one of the safest things you can do for labor. What's not to like?

Movement--DH was actually the first one to feel the real movement. I hadn't really felt anything that I could for certain say was movement, then they other night he had his hand on my stomach and the little kiddo kicked the crud out of my stomach. He kicked Russ's hand twice, and then I got to feel. It was pretty cool. Now I feel it every time I am sitting down, which is neat.

Not much else going on here. Hope everyone has a good week!

Congrats on your boy Julie!! Wow, the boys are really taking over! Hopefully we'll get some girls in the mix, too.

Well, heartburn is officially here. I've had it with both of my kids, so I expected it, but I was hoping beyond hope that I'd not see it rear it's ugly head this time. Oh well, I better go buy stock in Tums now ;)

Boob spurt- Oooo. Maybe this is what's going on. My boobs and nips have been pretty sore for the last 5 days or so. I haven't been able to figure out why. Hmmm...But I don't want them to grow!! They're already HUGE!! You guys would seriously be scared if I told you my normal cup size! :o

Julie - Congrats on adding another boy to the group!

Wags - Heartburn has started for me too. No fun. :(

Boobs - I think mine need a little growth spurt. ;)

Zhanna - I read your post about the bacon ... was this a strange craving or is it something you have eaten before? I'm not giving you a hard time for eating it since I am nowhere near the poster child for healthy pregnancy eating, but I have just never heard of eating that!! :p

Ginger - Also saw your post regarding the caffeine. I've been SO bad about this. I have probably about 32oz of iced tea almost every day! I've read you can have about 40 oz of coffee and be okay, and I think coffee is higher in caffeine than iced tea, so I'm not stressing over it.

Jen--Cute belly shot!!! U/S buddies--that's pretty cool. What time is yours? I'm at 10 am, just wondering when all of the ladies will get their info overload for that day. lol.

CONGRATS ON YOUR BOY, JULIE!!!

Winter--Enjoy those C cups, girl!

Nothing new here. Just taking a quick break from some Audit reading--it was hard to tear myself away. We got a lot packed today (moving this weekend), so I feel accomplished tonight. I am SOOOO hungry lately--seems like all I want to do is eat. I had the worst craving for a cucumber and ranch dressing tonight. Too bad, we didn't have any cukes, and we live in the middle of nowhere, so getting one was out of the question. lol.
Question: Are you planning to breast or bottle feed or some combination?
I went the combination route with Avery. She went from breast to bottle with no problems. So, I pumped some, fed from the breast some, and gave her some formula. I used Enfamil Lipil with her. I plan to do the same sort of combo with Baby #2. You?

Robyn, I am known for eating raw meat here and there. Like, when I am making meatballs, I will take a little piece of the raw mix and eat it, or - if I'm cooking bacon - I'll eat an uncooked strip or two... I like the taste and I can't help it! Today, I totally didn't think before I put that slice into my mouth and ate it, and only then did I realize that I REALLY should't have done this since I am pregnant! I am so freaking out right now...

Congrats Julie! We've almost got identical families growing here...minus a few months for DS #1.

Feeding I plan to BF exclusively for as long as I can. Last time that was until 7 mos, when I couldn't pump enough anymore and my freezer stash ran out. I then continued to BF with formula supplement until I weaned at 1 year.

I've got a dr. appt tomorrow. Can't wait to hear that heartbeat again!

Congrats on your little BOY Julie!

Feeding - I'm planning on breastfeeding. I nursed Jackson until he was 14 months. He did start whole milk from the sippee once he turned one so he nursed less frequently but we totally stopped at 14 months. Nursing worked out wonderfully for us so I plan on doing the same with number 2:)

Raw Meat - You girls are crazy:p

Movement - I've been feeling movement everyday. I can see some kicks from the oustide but not most of them. DH hasn't been able to see or feel anything yet but I know as the baby gets bigger he'll see plenty:)

Wow, another boy! Hooray Julie! How exciting.

My boobs are killing me too right now-- boob spurt. Gawd I hope not. I already can't find a maternity bra to fit. I was a 32DDD before I got PG and now I'm a 38DDD. I mean, please. Is that even human? If they keep growing I'm going to have to wrap myself in gauze and duct tape every morning. I'm nursing too so I imagine at this end of this oddessy I'll end up in some carnival side show.

I'm feeling movement all the time now. It's so cool. I always thought that it would skeeve me out but its the opposite now that it's happening.

Thanks for all the Congrats ladies! I'm getting use to the idea that there are going to be 2 boys in my house. Whew!

Boobs: Mine have been very sore. They grew from a b to a c with DS. We'll see this time.

Jilly:We've almost got identical families growing here...minus a few months for DS #1.

LOL! Do you plan on anymore or is #2 the last one? We're on the fence about having more.

raw meat: As an adult, I haven't eaten any raw meat, but as a kid I used to love raw hamburger.

Feeding: I BF'd DS for 11 months. I plan on BFing with #2, but probably not as long. Collin NEVER took to the bottle. Very stressful for me. I will be introducing a bottle very early on this time. My goal this time is exclusive breast milk for 3-6 months and then start supplementing, but we'll see how things go.

Names: Some of the names we are kicking around for the little guy are.... Braden, Brady, Kyle, Reid and Christopher

Raw meat ~ I don't even like the look of it. Not going to be eating any over here.

Feeding ~ The plan is to breastfeed. I don't think I'll have a problem suplementing with formula if needed.

DH and I had an interesting conversation last night. Apparently he is now rethinking the idea of me going to 2nd shift. He's concerned about the 8 hours he'd be alone with the kiddo. He doesn't know when he'd have time to take care of the house. (We've got 6 acres. It takes about 6-7 hours just to mow)And that he wouldn't really see me except for weekends, has got him thinking. He also said with his new position he can't guarentee he'd be done by 4pm every day. Which is when I'd go to work. He said he'd do whatever I wanted. So I guess I'll start researching daycare options today. I don't know what to do.

I'm sure this is just one of the many decisions I'll have to make as a parent that there is no right or wrong answer for. But man, it's frustrating.

Amanda, mine's at 3PM with a doctor's appt. afterwards. So you get morning/early afternoon, I get late afternoon/evening. :D

Feeding: DD was exclusively BF until she was 12-1/2 months. Those were hard-fought months, because it did not come easily for us. I'm hoping this time around that nursing will go much easier. I hope to BF this one exclusively until he/she is at least a year old as well. But this one is going to take a bottle, because DD never really did!!! Ack!

Names: We know our boy's name will be Benjamin Matthew. Right now our girl's name is Holly Renee, but I'm still in love with Julia, so we may just have two names and if it's a girl, decide then. :)

Zhannuska: I know a woman who craved raw meat when pregnant with her son. For lunch she'd go to the grocery store to get a raw steak and then eat it raw as soon as she was back in her car. She had a big, healthy boy.

Julie: Congrats on a boy!

feeding: I'm really hoping to be able to breastfeed.

boobs: Mine have been sore again lately, too. But no growth that I've noticed.

zhannushka
08-30-2006, 09:29 AM
Elenna - Thank you! That just made me feel so much better!!! :)

Feeding - I am definitely planning to TRY and breastfeed as long as I can. We'll see I guess. Obviously, I have no experience with BF at this point, so - I don't know what's going to happen... My mom BF'd both me and my sister, but she was in lots of pain from it. She only did it because of all the pressure from her mom and her MIL. I won't put myself through that - if it really hurts, I won't do it.

Raw Meat - that bacon wasn't completely "raw" FWIW... It's cured bacon, which means that it's processed with sodium nitrite, which should kill the bacteria. It was just not cooked. I know it doesn't make it MUCH better, but at least it wasn't completely raw, dripping blood...

Boobs - mine grew about a size in the very beginning of the pregnancy. I don't think they've grown much since then.

Movement - I am still not so sure about this one. I think I feel it, but maybe it's just gas... It's very random - maybe twice or three times a day, that's about it. I do have anterior placenta as per my latest u/s, which may prevent me from feeling movement or make it less noticeable.

Wow, the boys are going nuts in this thread! I wonder if that means the Feb. thread will be full of girls to balance out the population? ;)

Cravings: Still soup. Have had soup like 3 times this week. I am a freak show. Raw bacon I have honestly never heard of but my MIL does like raw ground beef.

Movement: Tons. Baby is very active after I eat. I tried putting hubby's hand on my belly last night after dinner but he couldn't feel anything even though the baby was moving. He is so sad. :( I hope he can feel the baby soon - sounds like some other guys can so maybe our time is coming soon.

Feeding: Definitely breastfeeding. I am very committed to it and so is my husband. I registered for the Medela PIS Advanced since I will be returning to work.

Leave: The plan for now is to take off 12 weeks and then my boss has indicated I can work from home for another month, so that would be 16 weeks at home. I feel really, really good about that. Hubby is a teacher so we may try to get family help in May until he is done with school and then he will keep the baby in the summer and the babe won't go to daycare until August. I would LOVE to not have the baby in daycare until he is 8+ months so we really hope that "plan" works out.

Boobs: Sigh. I've got nothing, nada in terms of growth. Well, I guess they may be a tad bit fuller but I am still wearing all of my same bras from pre-pregnancy. Very sad. :(

Names: We have a few that we like but we really haven't discussed it too much. It's very important to me that the baby's name will remain a surprise but my darling hubby f-ed up a few months ago when his mom guessed one of the names and instead of just saying it was a nice name, he says that name is on our "short list". I really seriously could have murdered him on the spot. Well, last week when we told MIL it was a boy, one of the first things our of her mouth was "I don't like [insert name she guessed that we like] name". I was livid but I didn't say anything.

Hubby is supposed to have a "discussion" with his mom about never saying anything like that again or telling anyone else the name. Keeping the name a surprise is how it's done in my family and it is very, very important to me plus I caved on finding out the sex so I want something to be a surprise. MIL is normally a peach but on this issue she has crossed a bad line and I don't want her to go there ever again. This topic is a sore subject in our household right now...

Hope y'all are doing well and can't wait to hear more great U/S reports of healthy babies! :)

Cravings: My main craving has been Pensi...I've always been a Papsi drinker, but now it's like crack.

Movement: A little here and there, but nothing major

Feeding: Definitely breast feeding

Leave: I am not working after this baby - for at least 6 months or so. Then I might do something part time.

Boobs: Oh jeez - I've gone up a few sizes...it's frustrating to have to buy new bras knowing they might only fit for a week or two.

Names: Well, for years I have always wanted Isabelle but now it's overly popular so I wavered a bit. I still want to use it though but DH says no. He says that since I picked that name before we even met, it would be like him not having a say in naming the baby. It sucks because he even admitted that he liked the name...but he still says no. Other names we are considering are Caitlyn, Courtney, Sydney, and Kayla. Most likely the middle name will be Renee regardless. That is my middle name and also my close cousin's middle name - named after me. It's something I would like to continue.

I need to call the doctor's office. I need to get my next appointments scheduled. For some reasaon, I didn't have anything scheduled after my amnio.

now I'm a 38DDD. I mean, please. Is that even human?

hehe. I would love to be in a DDD. At least I'd be able to buy bras at the store. I'm an H cup right now. Imagine these mountains when full of milk!

Leave: I am already a SAHM and will continue to do so...

Feeding: Definitely BF'ing here. I BF'd both my kids exclusively for a few months, then had to supplement, because pumping at work just wasn't enough. This time though, I'm home full time, so it's BF!

Names: Holy crap! I can't believe we're talking names already! I mean, most of us are half way, but we haven't talked much about it yet. There's a couple names I love (mostly girl names, which means we'll probably have a boy). Names are hard for us because of the restrictions we've put on ourselves :p

Winter Biscuit

Cravings: My main craving has been Pensi...

:D Let's just say I read this as "My main craving has been penis..." :p

Feeding: definitely planning to breastfeed. I BF my DD for over 1 year, and am hoping to do the same with Nugget. The first 3 weeks or so were rather challenging and difficult for us, but I'm so glad I stuck it out and hope it works just as well for Nugget.

Leave: I WOH now and plan to return to work after a 12-week leave. I have a very flexible schedule, and it worked out really well with DD. Time will tell how it works out with 2 kids! I do plan to work from home at least one day a week, so that will help the BFing relationship and give me a break from the pumping.

Names: We haven't discussed names at all yet. Of course every time I see/hear/read a name, I can't help analyzing it and think to myself, "Hmm, I like that name, that's a possibility" or "Nope, that's not quite it!"

This thread is moving too fast for me!

CONGRATULATIONS on your BOY Julie! How exciting!!!

Winter_Biscuit, I started laughing out loud when I read your comment. Too funny :-)

Movement: I have been feeling her move regularly, especially when I consume soda or sugar. For the past couple of days I haven't felt her as often. I hope it's because I've been running around and haven't noticed.

Feeding: I would like to breast feed.

Leave: My office is literally 5 minutes from home. I would like to be able to get out of the house but at the same time I want to be at home too. I'm a web designer so I could work from home. I am on the fence about it. My boss said he would like to keep me aboard and whatever works for me works for him.

Boobs: I started as an A cup but now I'm a full B. They have been sore or tender since I found out I was pregnant.

Names: We have a name sort of picked out but we're keeping it a surprise until her birth.

Raw meat--Never was a partaker of the raw meat. Yuck! Meat kind of grosses me out anyway. A lot of people in my family help themselves to raw meat all the time though.

NYLACHI and wagsgirl--Kill me on the boobs, ladies. Here I was complaining about some DD's. hahahahahaha.

Well, good luck to all of us trying the BF'ing route!!!

Angela--Man, good luck with your whole situation. I think DH has very valid points, though. FWIW, DD went to daycare early, and we didn't have any issues with that. I hope you can figure out what will work best for you and your family.

Jen--At least we can keep them coming back all day long. hehehe I also noticed that our DD's almost share a birthday. My DD was born 8/15/02, and yours 8/14/04. Ha. I wonder if we will deliver on the same day or one apart as we have EDD's one day apart. :p

Zhanna--Yeah, definitely don't BF just cause others expect you to. I can seriously tell people to shove it when they have the audacity to try to tell/demand people what feeding option is right.

wine o--Your leave sounds awesome. And, it'd be great if the baby's care can work out the way you hope. Best of Luck! Oh, and that would've made me irate about MIL and the name thing. Absolutely irate. Here's hoping that DH's talk can smooth things out and communicate expectations--and that the expectations will be followed.

Ginger--I am also a Pepsi addict. "My name is Amanda, and I'm a Pepsi-holic." There are also certain meals, with which I feel I MUST have a Pepsi: fried chicken and pizza. My sister's middle name is Renee. Good luck finding your first name.

Speaking of craving Pensi (read penis), another question: How have your ladies' sex drives been?

For me, with DD I was a complete nympho from second trimester on. :o This time around, I had little drive during 1st trimester. That shot drastically up for the first few weeks of the 2nd tri, but now, it's back down to almost nothing. You?

Congratulations on your boy, jmvan74!

Movement - I know I felt DD a little later last time...this time I've been feeling it for a few weeks, but not on a regular basis. Mostly at night, when I'm paying attention. I have to admit, I can't wait to feel those little bumps all the time. It's just so cute!

Name - I have a name picked out. It was the boy name I had last time, and for a while I thought maybe I didn't want it anymore, but now whenever I think about the baby, I'm already referring to him as that name! I think DH likes it too, but kind of like Lucy Van Pelt's DH, he won't say 'yes' because I think he wants to think he helped come up with it. Whatever:rolleyes: In the end, I know he'll let me have my way because it's a good name ;)

Sex Drive - What's that? Last time, I too was much more into it after the 1st trimester, but this time, it's just vanished. DH and I were laughing about it because we're both kind of waiting for that to happen again, and so far, it's just not. It's honestly the last thing on my mind right now! I'm telling DH it's cause I'm carrying a boy this time, so it's his fault ;)

Angela: Good luck figuring out the work situation. I'm sure whatever you decide will be best for your family. ;)

Zhanna:If you BF, you definitely have to do it b/c You want to. Just know that it is quite possibly going to be painful for a few weeks. ;) Some people have no pain, I know with DS, it was at least 6 weeks before it was comfortable for me. I think people are often lead to beleive it's easy and if it hurts, your doing it wrong, but honestly, that's not true. Just a heads up!:D

Ginger: I read it as Penis, too! LOL! I knew what you meant though. Good luck coming up with a name.

Leave: I'm already a SAHM, so that will continue.

Names: I think it's so cool that some of you are keeping the name a secret! Can't wait for January. We thought about it, but I'm no good at it.:p

Sex drive: Funny you should ask....when I was pg with DS#1, I had no sex drive. We DTD like 3 times. Just this past week, I've started feeling a little "randy"! LOL! I hope we have a better run with this pg!

feeding Definitely BFing. I BF DD for 13 months and it was one of the best things I've done as a parent. I want to go at least as long with #2. Zhanna, it does hurt (at least it hurt me!) in the beginning, but I promise if you can get through the first 6 weeks it is so easy after that! The first few weeks are hard, but after that it's generally smooth sailing and so much easier than dealing with bottles! Although, since I SAH I never pumped or gave DD a bottle, I just couldn't be bothered.

movement I do feel the baby but I don't think you can feel it on the outside yet. It's usually at night when I am laying still, like in bed or when watching tv.

sex drive I can take it or leave it. I am mostly just too tired right now, but DH is all about it all the time, so it usually amounts to 1-2 times a week (though he tries just about every night!).

name we are still debating. The baby's middle name will be George, after my dad who passed away 17 years ago. My grandma was wanting it for the first name, but although I loved my dad, I just don't love the name George, so we're using it for the middle name instead.

Just moving right along here! DD has been to mother's day out twice now and seems to really have fun there. She didn't nap the first day but yesterday she napped for an hour! I'm hoping that within the next week or so she'll be taking a good 1.5-2 hour nap there, like at home. I got soo much done yesterday though, it's amazing how much you can do on your own! :)

Quest-Yep, it's the hubby's fault. lol. It's cool that you have a name and that you can keep it a secret. I am not good at the secret thing, so once we have name, I'll be blurting it out. :p

Julie-Here's hoping you get a good run this time around. hahahaha. I'm sure it'll make DH happy.;)

Margaret-FH has one of the most insatiable sex drives I have ever seen. We usually end up with once or twice a week, also. Although, I must admit, most of the time, my mind is elsewhere. :o Glad that DD is liking the Mother's Day Out. I'm sure the more she settles in, the longer the naps will be. And, hooray for productivity--it sure is amazing how much you can do on your own.

I have some more packing to do and have class tonight, so I'll check in when I get home--around 10:30. Hope everyone has a nice day!

Hi Mommas,

Finally getting some time to check in! Been a long time.

We found out a couple weeks ago that we are having another GIRL! We are very excited and now I can start decorating. Since we moved into a new house last month, I have a blank room to start with, now I just need to think about what I want to do...

After my last appt., I have decided to switch my dr. I went off a referral from my cousin's GF, but this last appt. was hell. The dr. I got was so unbelievably rude and actually gave me a lecture about how unhealthy it is to gain more than 30-35 lbs. in a pregnancy. She was "very" concerned that I had gained 4 lbs. in the previous month (I was at 8 lbs. total gained at 18 weeks) and then moved on to my lab work without giving me a chance to say anything. My blood work was done before I moved and I had brought in the results the previous appt. and even went over them with another dr. that last appt. Well, she said they weren't in my records so I had to do them again. I thought DH would lose it. Plus, she had NO bedside manners and was just plain rude. So, anyways, I am going to a new practice for my next appt. in a couple weeks.

A few of the topics going around:

Cravings: Nothing specific, but some nights I just can't eat meat at all.

Movement: Definitely feel her moving a LOT.

Feeding: Plan to breast feed. I hope it goes as easy as the first time. I BF'ed Gabby for 7 months.

Leave: Since I have my own home based business, I will likely officially take 2-3 weeks off and then work a few hours each day as I feel up to it, maybe more.

Boobs: still growing ;)

Names: We do have her name picked out. It is another "G" name, but I don't want to reveal it publicly yet :)

Here is my 18 wk. belly shot:

**moderator: please don't copy to the first page, I'd rather it just be here... thanks.

It's funny how I will tell people that I'm 20 weeks and they can't believe I'm already halfway done, yet I feel like I've been pregnant FOR-EVERRRRR.

Oh, and since I'm having a c-section again, the dr. told me they'd likely schedule me for about a week before my due date, which is 1.4.07. We'll see...

Good to see you back Amber! Congrats on another girl! Gabby is adorable and I'm sure this one will be, too. You look great! It's surreal that we're all halfway (or almost) done!! It's going so quickly, now!

Sex drive: Lately, I've had none. Chasing 2 toddlers around all day, plus being almost 19 weeks pg, I'm exhausted by the end of the night! But, DH is quite the "randy" man, so it ends up being 2-3 times/week.

Sex Drive - I just don't have one anymore... :( Literally - DH and had sex a total of 4 times since we found out that I'm pregnant 4 months ago... He is definitely not liking this, but there's nothing I can do to help it. It's not that I'm repulsed by him or anything - I just don't want to be bothered... I do feel terrible about it though!

Thanks for your suggestions about BF everyone! I know that it won't be easy right away, and I do really want to BF! I am taking a BF class sometime in November/December, so - hopefully they will give me some good tips!

Congratulations on your GIRL, Amber!!! :)

Another movement question... I've been feeling a new sensation for the past few days. It's normally when I'm sitting at my desk at work, or driving in my car - I feel like someone is "knocking" on my belly from the inside. It feels like a very light tap and it happens quite a few times a day now... Is that what movement is supposed to feel like?

Zhanna, that's Baby Boy for sure! :D Hooray! And I third, fourth, whatever the sentiment that BFing does hurt at first. Oh yes it does. BUT, you do get used to it. And thanks - we love Benjamin Matthew quite a bit, too. :) I love Joseph though - a little Joey or Joe, too cute!

Amanda, that's too funny! I wonder how close our kiddos will be this time...

Amber, good to see you! Congrats on your girl! I'd have switched OBs too after all that. Why doctors think they can treat patients like that, I don't know.

Leave: I WAH part-time, plus I work part-time at The Childrens Place here in town. I get six months off at TCP without losing my spot. Rock on!!! :D I will probably have to use some of that six months in advance, though, because I don't know how long I'll be able to handle retail work. I get so tired already, and I'm barely halfway! For the WAH job, I get six weeks of leave. Not really a big deal, since I just work out of the basement. ;)

Zhanna-- that's FOR SURE movement! Isn't it exciting? I'm feeling the nugget every day now too, mostly in the morning and at lunch time.

Amberwaves, you're beautiful! Congrats on your little girl!

Hey ladies, can someone comfort me please. I haven't felt the baby move in the past couple days. I think I might have felt a flutter on Tuesday night, but nothing obvious. I'm a little on the fluffy side in my belly area (what I call my innertube), so maybe that's making it difficult to feel the baby pretty regularly. I have an appointment a week from today so I'll definitely ask about movement then, I just guess I'm being paranoid.

Just wanted to know if others go a few days without feeling your little one move.

TIA!

jmvan74
08-31-2006, 08:34 AM
Tera: Chances are, everything is just fine. Have you been busy, moving around a lot where you might not notice the flutters? If you are really concerned, call your OB, that's what they're there for. Plus, you might score another u/s. ;) You never know. Your little one may be most active when you are asleep.

Yeah, I don't sit still most of the day. I get up and walk around alot even though I have a "desk job." So maybe I'm not giving myself an opportunity to feel it. I'll try and take it easy today.

Maybe all the gas I'm having is disguising the baby movement :) :) :) . I've been eating salads and vegetables like crazy this week ...

Congratulations on your girl, Amber!

Zhanna, I agree that it definitely sounds like you are feeling movement! :D As your baby gets stronger and starts packing a harder punch, you and your DH will be able to feel (and sometimes even see) those taps right through your belly. How fun!

GardenGirl, I agree that chances are you have nothing to worry about. I know I had some periods with my DD where I didn't feel any movement for a while, and then when I was least expecting it, she'd punch me as if to say "Hey, I'm still here!" Hopefully your baby will give you a reassuring kick soon! I agree with jmvan that you can always call the nurse line at your OB office if you are really concerned, but I want to say that most doctors might not be too concerned unless there was severe cramping and/or bleeding accompanying the lack of movement, or unless you were late in your pregnancy and hadn't felt movement in a while.

NYLACHI-- hope your baby is cooperating today and that everything looks good and healthy!

zhannushka
08-31-2006, 09:13 AM
NYLACHI - good luck today!!!

Tera - my OB told me that I probably won't feel the baby move regularly until later on in the pregnancy. The movement I've been feeling is very random and it's not every day or at any particular time of the day... I wouldn't worry too much, but like other ladies said - you can always call your OB if you are really worried...

Alegna
08-31-2006, 09:53 AM
Tera~ To be honest. I can't say for sure I've ever felt the baby move. I saw it moving around during the ultrasound but I couldn't feel it. And I haven't been able to tell the difference between the baby and gas/hunger. I'm figuring the extra padding I have in the middle is making it harder to feel. ;)

I wouldn't worry. We're still pretty early in the pregnancy.

Amber--Hello there! Congrats on your baby girl! You look great, and your tummy is so cute!

NYLACHI--Best of luck at the u/s today!

Zhanna--Little "knocks" are so cool.

Tera--I, like everyone else, wouldn't be real concerned at this point. I haven't felt the baby move at all yet (well nothing definitive). I also second what the girls said about calling your OB if you're really worried.

GardenGirl - I'm in a similar situation as you. At my last regular appt. my doc asked if I'd been feeling movement, and I said I thought so, since it was the same feeling of 'is this the baby or is it gas bubbles?';) Then we had the big u/s and saw the baby moving around. And then for a few days after that, at night, I'd feel the baby.

But now it's very sporadic. Once in a while when I'm least expecting it, I'll feel a small 'pop' that I think is the baby, but as long as I'm not having any other strange symptoms, I'm not worrying. It is still early to feel movement on a regular basis (unless you're one of the lucky ones!).

jilly
08-31-2006, 01:37 PM
I had my 20 wk appt, and all is well. I'm up five lbs, and the baby's heart rate and u/s results were all good, according to the doc.

Movement
That was my only question for the dr. this time around. I've barely felt the baby move (except for one HUGE kick which seriously knocked me off balance...weird).
Being this is pregnancy #2, I thought I would be feeling him earlier and more often.
She told me that there was a good reason for it...my placenta is in the front. It's acting as a cushion there, muting his movement. She said that it could be a good 4 more weeks until I really started to feel him. I'm sooo glad that I asked because I seriously would've been freaking out at 24 wks if I wasn't still feeling him.
While she was listening to the heart, she heard a kick, which of course, I didn't feel. But apparently, he's an active little guy in there.

Name
So we thought that the naming of boy #2 would be difficult. But after reading through the name book, and the soc sec list of 500 names for 2005 and 1976 (my birthyear), there was only one name that we agreed on. And out of desperation, my DH said, "that's it. I don't want to hear another name. we're done."
Looks like we have a name set...but we're waiting to tell until he's born. We were so indecisive last time, and seeing DS actually changed our mind altogether. So again, we'll need to see him first to confirm. Surprisingly, it was one of our frontrunners last time. So I guess we didn't totally wear it out. ;)

If you want to update my stats...my EDD was 1/15/07, but my actual delivery date will be 1/12/07.

Congrats NYLACHI on your little boy! :) Love the name, too! that bedding is too cute.

Tera, I'm sure all is fine. Tonight, maybe try having some ice cream or a bowl of cereal (or even a glass of OJ) and laying down right afterwards. Sometimes that helps get them into action and you can feel it better. I hope that helps - but again, I am sure all is fine!

Nothing new here! :) I have to say, though, that the only complaint I've got right now (because everything else is going so well, knock on wood) is how utterly uncomfortable I am, sleeping. There's one position that works for me: body pillow snuggled up to me, one leg thrown over, and arms wrapped around it. Either side. Otherwise, I've got achy hips, achy legs, etc. later on. I've been napping with DD the past two days (don't ask, she won't nap alone, which we NEED to work on) and I've been so achy when she wakes up.

Beyond that one tiny complaint, though - everything is going so well. I actually stopped spotting about two months ago and have been afraid to say anything...but I think I can say IT'S GONE now! :)

Well, I haven't been around much and I probably won't be around much in the near future either. We were at the hospital Saturday evening when my mom coded, we were told she had a massive stroke, surgery was her only chance and even with it might not make it, or else she had at most 2 to 3 days and would gone. With all of that news my BP went high and I started having contractions. I was sent to ER to be watched and my mom was transferred to another hospital that was about 3 and 1/2 hours away. I wasn't allowed to travel for 8 to 10 hours later.

We later found out on Sunday afternoon/evening that she had an aneurysm and not a massive stroke. The aneurysm burst and they found another one that they were able to coil. Not totally out of the woods just yet but things are definitely looking better. She's taking 20 breaths a minute and hope to remove the vent today or tomorrow.

I'm trying to keep the stress of everything I'm having to deal with at a low level but that isn't easy.

GardenGirl and Zhanna ~ Thanks. I've decided that me being pregnant must mean we have to have something bad happen. When I was pregnant with my DD we lost my FIL very expectedly and now this. I've almost decided that we are done having children as I know I can't go through another event like this while being pregnant. To top things off my dad's health is very bad and could lose him within the next year.

I know have to think/worry if DH and I are at an increased risk for having an aneurysm ourselves now that my mom has had two, my grandma had a stomach aneurysm that never ruptured, and DH's mom passed away from a brain aneurysm in her sleep.

Weekend plans -- what is everyone doing for the holiday weekend? My DH left for his family's cabin up in northern Michigan today. We have seen MIL 3 of the last 4 weekends, and we haven't seen my family much (even though my parents live about 1 hour away while MIL lives 3+ hours away). So, DD and I are going to hang out for a few days, then on Sunday we'll head over to my parents' condo and spend some time on Lake Michigan. It is supposed to be 75 degrees, so not TOO hot. Should be nice :)

Then we are going to scope out BRU and the mall for some ideas on what we will need for DS#2. I know it's not much, but it'll be fun anyway. It's supposed to rain all weekend, so I don't think there will be much BBQing or anything.

DH will help her with some things around the house, we'll probably have dinner there and then we may go out with some of DH's friends, who live around the area. Sunday - we are going to my uncle's 60th birthday party. Monday - DH is working :( , so - I'll just hang out at home and relax all by myself. Although, maybe my sister will come up and hang out with me... :)

OK, so - you know those "light taps" I've been talking about? They've been happening more often and are not so light anymore... I even jumped at my desk at work today, when I felt an unexpected tap all of a sudden...

Weekend plans - I am up in Sacramento visiting my family while Brad is in a training class. It has been an unpleasant trip. Last night I had to put my dog, Emily, to sleep. It was the hardest thing I have ever had to do. I am an emotional wreck. I was supposed to go to the state fair tonight but all I want to do is go home and spend the next few days crying.

I did check out another baby store and found another crib that I like as well as bedding. While I adore the Glenna Jean bedding I posted a while ago, there is no reason I need to spend that kind of money...

Weekend plans Well my weekend plans got changed last night. DH has a trial set for Tuesday and has to work tomorrow (they thought they were going to settle it and then didn't). Though I can't complain, even as an attorney he only works one or two weekends a year. I'm so thankful. We were planning on going to Austin for the first UT football game and visit my grandparents as it's my grandmother's 82nd birthday. My parents always throw a great tailgate party at the football games too. DH was gone last weekend visiting his brother and parents in Indianapolis last weekend, so I just spent a weekend away from him. Doing it again makes me sad. So we'll just make it one night and I won't leave tonight as planned. DH and I are going to go out for a nice dinner just the two of us and then I'll leave in the morning for my two days in Austin. I'm going to come back after the birthday lunch on Sunday and spend the rest of the day and all day Monday with DH.

I was going to suggest starting on the nursery closet and getting an organizer installed. But I think I'll save that for the following weekend.

I just created my registry online at BRU. Well, just my info so far. I haven't added anything to it. I printed out there recommendations and I'll see what I need to add and delete from that list.

I just had 2 donuts at the office and I'm trying to sit still so I might feel the baby move. I have a weird pain in what I think is my stomach, but I'm honestly not sure where any of my organs are anymore :) :)

Lucy Van Pelt - Sorry about your loss :(

robyn - Congrats on your boy!

Weekend Plans - Heaven help me, we're driving down for my DH's annual family reunion. I'm not trying to be mean but it's a long drive, we sit outside the whole time (there's not enough room in the house where it's held to hold everyone), bugs are everywhere, now it's supposed to be raining, and I'm not looking forward to it. And it's in a very, VERY rural area...the kind where they have roads that are only one-lane wide, everyone drives a truck, and the only radio stations available for miles are country. And, the kids all run down to the 'crick' to collect crawfish (I'm sorry, DD won't be doing that, she's too little). Okay, I hope no one takes offense, but that's just not my thing. Especially when I'm 20 weeks pregnant with a toddler! DH realized that it's a big deal for me to go because he bribed me with a trip to IKEA on the way back ;)

Question for RO's - Do you notice emotional differences between this pregnancy and previous ones? Sometimes I feel like this one still isn't real, whereas with my DD, it's all I could think about. I know in a way that's reasonable since I have my DD to take care of now, but I feel a little guilty that I'm not as 'into' the pregnancy this time. It's part of my life but not my whole life (like it was before). Does that make sense?

Thanks everyone. I will be ok. It was just really difficult to come to this decision. I know I did the right thing. Emily just didn't know who she was anymore. She was lost. After several falls off the 4 foot retaining wall and a fall intot he pool that almost killed her, I decided I just had to do it. She will always live in my heart though.

Lucy Losing a pet is really hard. They are part of the family. I'm so sorry.

Robyn CONGRATS on your boy!!!

quest I totally understand what you're saying. When I first met with my ob after finding out I was pregnant, she said these words to me, "This pregnancy will fly by. It will not be like the first. You won't be as into it. Don't feel guilty. The baby will never know the difference."
She knew what she was talking about. I can't believe I'm already halfway there. And there's just not that much that needs to be done either.
I expect it will be similar even after the birth. I remember DS was all-encompassing to us after he was born. But it just can't be that way this time because I already have a toddler that needs love and attention too.
I have to keep reminding myself, that although I'm so much more prepared on what to expect...I really have no idea. It won't be a replay of DS#1, which of course is what I have been reliving in my head.

Absolutely! I feel the same way. Now that I feel DS#2 all the time, it's a little reminder, but basically, I just don't have the time I had before DS#1 to devote to daydreaming about this baby. ;) I do feel a little guilty, but I am excited about the arrival of the new addition and look forward to watching my boys grow up together, so that helps releive some of the guilt.

Question for RO's[/B] - Do you notice emotional differences between this pregnancy and previous ones? Sometimes I feel like this one still isn't real, whereas with my DD, it's all I could think about. I know in a way that's reasonable since I have my DD to take care of now, but I feel a little guilty that I'm not as 'into' the pregnancy this time. It's part of my life but not my whole life (like it was before). Does that make sense?

Another RO nodding her head at all the responses that have been posted so far. When I was pg with DD, I was so in tune to what was going on. I knew exactly how far along I was at all times, I hung on to every word that those Baby Center updates said (so I knew exactly when the baby was growing fingernails and such), and I daydreamed about the baby all day long. With this one, I barely glance at the Baby Center updates, I actually have to stop to think about how far along I am, and there is not much daydreaming. In some ways it because I'm too busy to really get "into" the pregnancy. In other ways, it's because I've BTDT so some of the novelty has worn off. I know that sounds bad - a baby is a huge blessing no matter whether it's your first or your 10th - but so far I haven't really experienced anything "new" (other than worse morning sickness :( ) that has kept my attention long enough.

I have friends who have told me that their whole lives revolved around their first child (and I can say the same about DD - we were and still are totally enthralled with her) but by the time the 2nd came around, they were a little more laid back about things and didn't fuss as much over the new baby. I can see that happening when Nugget arrives :) It's not that I won't love the baby any less - absolutely not - I just suspect that I will feel a little more comfortable about what I am doing because I've done it before (and survived ;)), whereas the first time around, neither DH nor I had any baby experience so it was ALL brand new to us.

usafwife - I'm so sorry that all of this is happening. I'd be leery of getting PG ever again too. :( Big hugs to you and you're in my prayers.

Happy Birthday Angela! That cake sounds to.die.for.

Ginger, I'm so sorry about your dog. :(

Congrats Robyn on your boy! Awesome news!

Man, with all the boys around here, I'm not sure if I should take that to mean Peanut's a boy, or that Peanut's going to be a girl and help even it out here. ;)

RO question: TOTALLY!! And I, too, feel guilty about it sometimes...like I'm shorting this child of attention already. Which, of course, is really not the case. I'm just not sitting at work all day, bored, and obsessing over every little thing about this pregnancy this time (because my job was really slow most of the time, I had nothing else to do!). Some days, like today, I wouldn't mind it...one of those Terrible Two's days here! Anyway, I don't doubt that things will be different with Peanut than they were with DD, because (as WB said) now we aren't novices at this whole baby thing, but we've also got DD to hang out with and take care of as well. It throws a whole new spin into all of this and honestly - a bit curious over here about how we're all going to handle it. DD isn't one to play nicely by herself for any length of time, so this should be....interesting. Yikes. :D

OK, that got long! Speaking of DD, today I got her to figure out there's a baby in my belly. Now she points to my belly, pats it, and says BABY! (Usually followed by Bye-bye baby, but that's beside the point. ;) )

Ok, I need your opinions...I decided I really like this bedding for our daughter. Obviously, it's not gender specific. DH says it looks to "boyish"...do you think so? I can't decide if he is right. I want her room to definitely be a girl's room so what could I do to make it more girly? Otherwise, I think it's back to the drawing board. Why is it all the girl bedding patterns I like are so expensive??

usawife - I am so sorry to hear about what you've already been through and that you're going through something difficult this time around. My thoughts are with you and I hope your mom comes out of this ok. I lost my dad to cancer when I was 3 months pregnant with Gabby, so I know the difficulty of facing something tragic while pregnant when your emotions are already at an all-time high. I'm thinking about you. xo

ginger - I am so, so sorry for your loss of your dog. I know this must have been a hard decision for you, but when your dog is no longer "living", then it's sometimes for the best to let them go. I am sorry :(

lucy van pelt - hmmm, that bedding IS really cute, but it definitely says "boy" to me. Maybe you could incorporate some pink somehow.

-------------

On the bedding note, I am pretty sure I've found the bedding I want:

http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/yhst-83532116742892_1912_334912500

It's by Caden Lane and it's called "Cassie". I have a white crib. Our nusery walls are a light tan color, so I thought this would work. Have to have the matching changing pad cover too!

http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/marisa-kristines_1913_11780234

I'm thinking of keeping the nursery pretty simple. I have a glider with light blue cushions. Will probably just throw a pink blanket over it (tried having MIL make covers for it before, which didn't work out too well) and hanging black and white photos in white frames on the wall.

Labor Day Weekend Plans - We are staying in town and SIL is supposed to be driving out today to visit for the weekend. She had offered to come out and babysit for us so we could have a night out for my birthday on Monday. Should be a fun, relaxing weekend.

Movement - Oh yes, she is moving like crazy. Sometimes it is uncomfortable.

Sleeping - I have been sleeping with a body pillow for months now and the only way I can sleep in on my side, hugging the pillow. And I flip over from side to side about a 100x a night... and often, can't sleep at all (like now, note my 4 a.m. post).

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

:) amber

Ginger: That bedding is adorable, but it says "boy" to me, too. Sorry have to agree with your DH.

Amber: I love that bedding! Enjoy your night out!:D

Nothing new here. Just wanted to stop in and say hi. I did buy new bedding for Collin, so now I can wash his set and get it ready for the nursery. Gotta Love Pottery Barn Kids Clearance section! I bought a new crib set, bumpers, quilt and sheet for $70! I'll just pick up some plain valances at Target and we're good to go!

usawife - I'm very sorry to hear about what you're going through. Hugs to you.

ginger - I know just how you're feeling. We had to make a hard decision about our kitty, Monet, two days before we were moving out of Los Angeles. I was beside myself. I certainly don't discount the place our pets have in our family and I feel for you right now.

lucy van pelt - Finding baby bedding has been a NIGHTMARE for me! I really like this set you've picked but it is a bit boyish IMHO. However, will your daughter care? Probably not! You're the one who has to like it! I found the best deals on www.babybeddingtown.com and www.babysupermall.com. We just bought a Kimberly Grant set at babysupermall that was $400 in the store for $189. Still a fortune in my opinion but I gave up. I still think I may have settled for it. Oh well.

Amberwaves-- I love that baby bedding, especially the changing pad cover. Adorable.

We went to a closet place today. I had to argue with the girl about the size of the closet. "yes, I understand that it's small. It's a small closet. That's why we're here. And the person who will own this closet is also small so don't worry about it and just add in the 18" drawers. I won't tell the closet police."

Annoying. They still came back with a price of $600 installed for my microscopic nursery closet.

I'm officially 20 weeks today! Half way there. I'm sort of sad about it-- this means I'm halfway finished with my pregnancy and I feel like I'm not even used to it yet. And I dont' feel even remotely ready to be a mommy yet. Does it get less scary?

I concur with the other RO's. I am definitely not as "into it" this pregnancy. I know I will adore my little one when they arrive, but there are still days when I totally forget I'm pregnant! I just keep very busy running after my 16 month old and don't have as much time to dwell on being pregnant. I haven't read any pg books this time (in fact I gave most all of them away!).

NYLACHI- I'm glad you found a new OB who is more in touch with your goals and wishes.

jmvan what a great deal! When I was buying the set above, the lady forgot to ring up the bumper. I of course said something because I was confused about the total. Doh! I could have gotten it for free!! Oh well!

amber love your nursery set for the new baby. It will be very cute! Hope you are settling into your new house nicely!

Lucy I do like that set, and you can certainly "girl it up" but it is a little on the boy side. But it just depends on how girly you want to have the room be....trust me the baby won't care either way! I'm really sorry to hear about your puppy. I remember on the WC that you were so excited to be getting her! I know you were a good dog-mom to her and know you did the best you could.

usafwife I'm so sorry that you are going through so much right now. I will have your family in my thoughts!

We just spent the last 2 days watching our friends' 22 month old while they went in to have their second baby! Wow it was tiring! Our friends had a surprise baby boy! My friend went in to be induced on Thursday evening and wasn't even dialated yet. Well, less than 16 hours later she had delivered a 9 lb.-er!! She didnt' even have time for an epidural! I hope my labor/delivery goes as fast as hers- from 0 to baby in less than a day! Last time I wasn't so lucky (but wasn't induced, either).

Here's what I'm thinking for the nursery:

Here's the bedding I've already bought (my DH is a pilot):
http://a293.g.akamai.net/7/293/5910/0010/image2.styleinamerica.com/pkecimgs/images/products/200634/0004/img40m.jpg

We're going to go with this crib:
http://www.minitots.com/i/di.asp?image=/i/M0391RS.jpg&w=500&h=500

I'm also going to get this double dresser, and not bother with the seperate changing table, just put the changing pad on top (which is what we already do in DD's nursery):
http://www.torinofurniture.com/EBAY/dresserblue2.jpg

The room will be a light blue, we have mocha-colored carpet in there (will get a blue/red throw rug for in front of the crib), and my white dutailier glider w/ottoman will have denim cushions.

magdesilver - The dog I had to have put to sleep is not the one I just got a couple of years ago. That dog, Lucy, is just alive, well, and wonderful. I had to euthanize my older dog, Emily. She was 12 and a half and she just seemed to be suffering from "doggie alzheimers". It was pretty bad. She just didn't know who anyone was anymore. I was with her for the procedure as was my mother. I just held her, kissed her nose, told her how much I loved her and would miss her and then said goodbye. I was bawling and so was my mother. I did go ahead and psy for a private cremation so I can bring her ashes home. I have no idea what I will do with them, but it comforts me to know she will be coming home to me.

I made DH look over a list of baby names and these are the finalists as of right now...

Sophia/Sophie
Kayla
Caitlyn
Paige
Claire
Keira

The middle name will still most likely be Renee. All opinions welcome! :) (Our last name is two syllables and ends in a "lee" sound.)

Hi Ladies - Hope everyone is having a great weekend. Sorry no SO's since I have been busy and need to catch up on all the posts. I can't believe we are already on our second thread.

I had my Dr appt & u/s last month. Everything went well. Gained quite a bit in one month, not sure if it's due to the weather or maybe I had my shoes on which I never keep on ;) Anyways, the little pea is measuring nicely and the u/s Dr says I won't need another u/s :( bummer, I love to see how the little one is doing. And we were wrong about the gender - we will be having another little princess! It will be nice for dd and dh is really going to feel out numbered. But he is still exited. My next Dr appt is on Sept 15th.

Wanted to say Congratulations to everyone who found out on the gender.

Great u/s pic!!

I am having the strangest thing happen. I couldn't sleep so I got up around 3am and went to lay out on the couch. About 15 minutes later, I felt sick and I had horrid diarreah (sorry - gross, I know), all of a sudden I started throwing up too. It was just awful. I felt a bit better afterwards, but the stranges thig is that now my face is covered in red splotches. It looks like a bunch of tiny red pin pricks or something. I think the best way to describe it is "almost gone hickey" marks. It's really bad around my eyes and under my chin. It doesn't itch or anything like that, but it looks freaky. I was thinking maybe food reaction, but I haven't eaten anything different...

Purple-- Congrats on your girl!

Jmvan-- Brady looks great!

We have our big U/S on Thursday. Its driving me crazy because I want to shop, but am trying to make myself just wait. The BRU coupons that came Friday aren't helping either.

I hope everyone is having a relaxing Labor Day. DH has been working in the garage all weekend working on his aquarium hood for a 150 gallon tank. It is cherry and he is doing a fabulous job, but it is taking forever. He had rough wood to start, so it had to be planed, sanded, glued, etc., and the molding is all hand routed, but today he finally got to oil and varnish the frame for the top, so he was really excited. Now if he could just finish the doors so he can start the bottom...When all the doors get done, I'll post some pics.

Have a good week everyone!!!!!

Yeah - a LJ friend also said it could be petechiae so I looked it up and that's exactly what it is. I guess I threw up harder than I thought I did! Everything is good here. The pressure down below is causing some discomfort...well more like a lot of pain in the nether region!:o I forgot about this kind of pain. Everytime I stand up I feel like I need to hold on to my abdomen. Other than that, I feel good. It's getting more difficult to lift DS and it's getting harder for him to sit on my lap!

Lucy VanPelt - hope your rash goes away! Did you still go to the doctor to confirm that it is/was petechiae?

Not much to report here; we're still undecided on whether we're going to try to find out the sex on Thursday, and we'll probably be undecided right up to the last minute :p

Funny story re: baby names - my MIL is already trying to figure out what names we are considering for this baby. We honestly haven't had any serious name discussions yet at all, but she doesn't believe us. Even if we had, we won't be telling anyone any names until the baby is born. (Learned our lesson the first time, especially when it comes to family members ;)) Anyway, she asked my DD what we will be naming the baby, thinking that surely a 2.5 year old toddler wouldn't be able to keep a secret. My DD has been insisting that Nugget is a girl, and she told MIL that we are having a girl named Sarah Lynn. So now MIL thinks that if we have another girl, we'll be naming her Sarah Lynn. MIL was acting so smug and triumphant, as if she got some "insider" info out of my DD. Well...what she doesn't know is that Sarah Lynn is the name of one of DD's favorite Little People characters :D

Lucy Van Pelt - I really like those bedding colors...DD's room is pink, pale sage green, and off-white. (I heart shabby chic colors, and want to substitute the pink for pale blue in DS's room).

It's not that I don't appreciate it. But I'm starting to feel like a charity case here. We should have just bought new and been done with it.

Angela, I know exactly how you feel! - we were offered a whole bunch of stuff by DH's cousin and then my cousin. We didn't need 2 sets of everything and didn't want to offend anyone, and at the same time we decided that it's our first child and we're willing to splurge if we have to, so - we actually said "thanks, but no thanks" to both of them and will now buy our own stuff...

In other news - we decided to go to Vegas for our big pre-baby vacation. :D We're leaving on the 16th and coming back on the 23rd (one day before our 1st Wedding Anniversary). It's a 5-hour flight though - that's the only thing that scares me a little...

I'm back form the OB. I have petechiae which is basically burst capillaries on my face. Lovely. I did get to hear the heartbeat for a few seconds so that was good. I did have a cbc to make sure I don't have a platelet problem which could cause the petechiae so I will find that out tomorrow.

On the sucky front, I didn't get the contract I wanted so now I amback to square one. DH pleasantly informed me that my finances are now in the red. Just want I need to deal with right now. mommydearest, last time I had to drink 36 oz. This time I got no instructions, so I called the day before, and they said no prep was needed. I did drink a sweet tea beforehand just because I was thirsty, and so the baby would be awake, but I did pee a few times before the u/s and there were no problems. If they gave you no instructions I wouldn't worry about it.

we decided to go to Vegas for our big pre-baby vacation

We leave this Sunday. DH has a conference and I'm tagging along. Then Friday we're going to hop over to Pheonix to see some family. And come back Sunday.

I figured it was my last big trip before baby too.

And to complicate matters, my dog sitter just called and said they can only do it from Sunday to Thursday. Now I'm stuck scrambling to find dog care for Fri-Sat-Sun. My dog doesn't really like other dogs. She was never really exposed to them. So it's torture to bored her. And all my friends that would do it have dogs of thier own at home. :o If I can't come up with someone she might just have to get over her fear of other dogs. Alegna--

At our kennel, each dog has its own run/indoor pen. So, there is no way your dog could get near enough to another dog to cause problems. I don't know if you've boarded before, but our kennel also requires the kennel cough vaccine at least 2 weeks prior.

Good luck and have fun!

I'm going to go out on a limb and say I've finally been feeling the baby move. It's pretty wierd.

And the dog thing worked out. My mom was going to watch her. But she was going to Branson on Friday. Her boyfriend was going to keep the dog for us. He was going to go out of town too. Which left me with no sitter. His plans fell through so he's able to watch the dog.

Now I've just got to find enough clothes that fit to last me a week and I'll be good to go :)

Angela: Glad you found a dog sitter! Have a great time in Vegas!

QOTD: I was told to drink 16oz and hold it.

Zhanna: Vegas sounds great! I was smiling when you said you told everyone at the party you were having a boy. I can't keep it in either. I tell everyone I see. :D

Ginger:*Hugs*

I can't believe I'm 20 weeks! Whoo hoo! I've started having some "stomach" issues. I know it's b/c everything is getting squished and moved around. Uggg.

QOTD: I didn't have to drink any water before my u/s. They have never made any request to drink or not drink anything beforehand.

I'm so jealous of you ladies heading to Vegas. I love that dang city! Unfortunately, I am on "Vegas restriction"...I had a little too much fun on my last trip...:p DH is going at the end of this month with some friends but I am not sure when I will be able to go again.

My face is looking a bit better...thank God! I actually went out in public today.

We are heading to Pismo Beach next weekend. We go a few times everyyear. One of our cocker spaniel breeder friends has a big get together whenever he has 8 week old puppies. What started as around 30 people having a beach party has turned into a three day event of more than 100 people and 60 cocker spaniels. This time there is even a lady flying in from London for the events. There are also people coming from all around the US to attend. I am really looking forward to seeing everyone and playing with the puppies before they head to their new homes.

It's been almost a week since I posted. Labor Day put me behind!

Zhanna and Angela - congrats on the vacation plans. DH and I did a "babymoon" over our anniversary a few weeks ago to a resort here in Texas. We had a great time celebrating each other and our future. Fun fun fun!

Julie - Brady is our top boy pick as well! How funny. I'm not completely sold on it yet. It just goes with the attitude I have on everything baby related though. I haven't made any firm decisions.

Ginger - I had the same broken blood vessels a couple months ago after I get sick on movie theatre popcorn. I guess with the increased blood level, it's more common. It went away in a few days

I have a doctors appointment tomorrow and I'm still contemplating on inquiring about another ultrasound. I don't want to sound like a compulsive planner that only cares about decorating a nursery, ya know. I have to get a permission slip for a prenatal massage at a spa that a friend and I are going to next weekend, so that might open the door for conversation about permission for an ultrasound at a private clinic. We'll see. I'm a chicken when it comes to asking doctors things. I really need to get over it.

Ginger: Glad your face is clearing up. Sounds like a huge party at Pismo Beach!

Tera: Our boy list was extremely limited.... We wanted something that sounded good with Collin and our last name and Brady fits the bill. I love it. It was on my list first time around, too. :D
Make sure you don't chicken out at the DR today! Ask questions that's what they are there for!

Not much going on here, just wanted to bump us up.

Chiming in a little late on the QOTD re: how much water to drink before the ultrasound, but this is on my mind since my big ultrasound is today :) I was instructed to drink 32 ounces one hour before my appointment and hold it.

Lucy Van Pelt - glad your face is clearing up. My friend experienced something similar when she gave birth to her 1st baby. She pushed so hard that she had broken/burst blood vessels and capillaries all over, causing red spots to appear all over her face. As if a new mother needs any more battle wounds! ;) Just so I don't scare anyone (as it could possibly happen to anyone else who is planning/having a vaginal birth), her face cleared up in a day or two :)

I was just lurking in the February 2007 mommies thread, and a few of them are starting to find out what they are having. There's only been a couple that have found out but so far it's all boys, no girls. I wonder if they are going to follow the trend set by the Dec 06 and Jan 07 mommies with boys being dominant! :)

I'm so excited for my ultrasound this afternoon, can't wait to see the little Nugget. :D Even though we are NOT finding out the sex (well, that's what we decided last night...we'll see if Zhanna's magic words do anything for me today ;)) I'm sure I will be studying that screen, looking for any clues!

Water - My OB is mean! I had to drink (I'm not kidding) ... 91 oz. and hold it!!!! I never made it to that much, and at the final u/s (the one where we finally found out the gender) I didn't drink any water, just about 24 oz. of Mt. Dew since I was trying my darndest to get the baby to move his legs. :) Go figure that that was the clearest u/s we had.

Tera - Not sure if you've had your appt. yet, but definitely don't be afraid to ask. My OB does not have the warmest bedside manner and is very down to business about everything. I was really nervous to stress to her the first time how much we wanted to find out the sex, because she seemed like the type that would find it frivolous. Well she ended up understanding and she was the one who actually helped us do the 2 extra "little" u/s to finally get to see the gender. I'm sure your OB has seen people who are a lot more worked up over stuff than you are!

Mag - This goes way back, but I love your nursery ideas! I wanted that red crib so badly, but I chickened out and went with wood. ;) Anyway, we are doing a travel theme for our nursery, so I was looking some stuff up online and I found these cute things and thought of you: airplane prints (http://cgi.ebay.com/Airplane-Baron-Aviator-Kids-Art-Prints-Pottery-Barn-Fab_W0QQitemZ320022537023QQihZ011QQcategoryZ20430Q QrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) and boppy cover (http://cgi.ebay.com/Boppy-cover-made-w-Pottery-Barn-Kids-Airplane-more_W0QQitemZ150028364865QQihZ005QQcategoryZ66675 QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem). Wow ~ I just realized I've been super crabby all week. I'm even snapping at coworkers and customers on the phone.

I don't know why. I've been getting plenty of sleep and feeling pretty good.

I guess I'm just tired of their stupidity. I would say that the vacation will help. But I'm sure I'll have just as big of a pile to deal with when I get back. I need to get back to the place in my head where I didn't care about this stuff. Who cares if my coworker hasn't done his work for the past month. Not my issue. Who cares if we're 6 weeks behind on orders. Not my problem.

I need to get back to the place in my head where I just show up and do what's expected of me. I need to stop expecting my coworkers to work to my standards.

I have no time to post, but I wanted to pass this along, in case anyone else is interested.

I filled out a form at cordblooddonor.org about donating Peanut's cord blood. I don't know if anyone else is interested in this or not, and if you are, you might be able to just do it through your hospital depending where you live. I can't, so I want to go this route (and we sure can't afford to bank it for ourselves, but I don't want it to go to waste).

Basically, you email them for a referral. They give you a phone number to call (it was 800-869-8608) to discuss donating the baby's cord blood. I just called now and I'm getting an information packet in the mail next week. There are forms I need to fill out, a health history and such, and forms my physician needs to fill out. Then it's all got to be back to them before 35 weeks of pregnancy. That's it. And donating it is free of charge!

Hopefully it's as easy as it sounds. Just wanted to pass that along to everyone, in case there's interest in this!

Have good days, and good luck on your u/s today Kristen and WB!

Alegna - I remember going through this same thing at work when I was pg with DD. I was thinking...here I am, in the middle of this miracle, and you're going to complain because your stupid logo isn't big enough? Go home and hug your kids, and forget about the logo! Things like that just didn't seem to matter and I was annoyed at clients who acted like it was the end of the world if their logo was the wrong size. I don't know if it was hormones because it kind of didn't go away for me...I still think many work situations are so trivial compared to the important stuff like babies (now that I have one) that I'm much more easily annoyed at stupid requests.

I had another appt. today and the doc confirmed that the blood work from the big u/s was all great, so she said again there's no need for any more genetic testing. Hurray! And she said my placenta is anterior, which is probably why I'm not feeling as much movement. And I'm wondering if that could be the reason why the baby looked so squished on the u/s...I don't know if that would make any difference, but comparing DD's u/s with this one, it seems like he had less room or something. I also got the orange kool-aid for next time.

Oh, and I gained 6 lbs. again this month. And I was eating much better than the last month, when I also gained 6 lbs. So apparently I'm just destined to gain lots. Fun :p

Congratulations on your girl, mommydearest!!! :D

Our ultrasound went really well - everything looks great and Nugget is one healthy, active baby! :) I got teary-eyed a few times, I am just so thankful that there is a healthy baby in there.

The worst part about the u/s was drinking all that water beforehand, and then they were running late  I was dancing around the waiting room and getting more irritated by the minute, convinced that I was going to end up with a UTI or bladder infection or something. Luckily, our u/s tech only needed the full bladder for a few quick measurements/tests, then she let me go pee (ahhhh....peeing never felt so good!), before I returned to the room for the rest of the ultrasound. So at least I didn't have to suffer through the 30+ minute u/s with a bulging bladder!

Nugget was swimming all over the place and the tech had a hard time "catching" it a few times to take accurate measurements, but eventually she got them and everything looked great. They revised my due date to January 26 based on the measurements, and the doctor said that the c-section will be scheduled for about 1 to 1 1/2 weeks prior, so we'll probably be looking at January 15-19 for the arrival of this baby!!

We did NOT find out the gender, so nothing to report in that area, although my DH did ask the tech to print the "money shot" and put it in a sealed envelope for us to take home. We did that with DD too, and I swore we weren't going to do it again. The temptation to peek is horrible when you KNOW you have the results sitting on top of your refrigerator! :) We'll see how long the envelope remains sealed this time. With DD, we actually made it to the end of the pregnancy without opening that envelope, but we'll see if things are any different this time!

FWIW, my DH claims he saw a "third leg" dangling, and that he thought he saw two objects that he could have been a pair of "nuts." I just laughed at him because when I was pregnant with DD, I also thought that I saw a "third leg" and it turned out to be part of the umbilical cord. And the nuts he thought he saw? Could have been ovaries or the kidneys rather than testicles. So, I'm not putting stock into the boy parts that he thought he saw, especially since I didn't see anything (and yes, I was looking intently) :)

Nugget's heartbeat was 136 during the ultrasound, and 160 at my quickie appointment with the doctor after the u/s. He/she is 12 ounces, and I've gained a few more pounds, for a total of 9 so far (I think? need to double check as I don't even remember!)

That's about it. My next appointment is October 5 and I might be able to schedule the c-section at that point. (They weren't scheduling into January yet as of today.)

Winter--You have more will power then me. I had to know. Waiting even this long was driving me insane. When the tech told me they would not rescan if they couldn't tell, I was so nervous. But luckily, they could tell.

My mom had fun at Parisian (if you have one near you). The baby stuff is on sale and all of the Polo summer things are 70% off. The kid is going to look good next summer if grandma can help it! One outfit had been $45 (which is ridiculous) and she paid $11 for it. The funny thing was that both my mom and I bought the same Carters outfit today at seperate stores. So, more shopping to exchange it! Shucks.

Anyway, I can't sleep because I'm too excited. I hope everyone else is having a more restful evening than I am.

Didn't expect it for another few weeks. Anyway, it's Thursday, Sept 14. I'm thinking about it more and more and most people tell me to find out the sex. UGH! Decisions!! Good luck with the house zhannushka. I know how nerve wracking that can be.

Back from my appointment. Everything is good. Triple screen and CF came back normal. I'm down another pound. Doctor doesn't seem worried about it. She said even if I gained a pound a week from now until the end I'd just be back at my prepregnancy weight. At least it's slowing down. 2 pounds last month. 1 pound this month. Who knows...maybe I'll even gain some next month. ;)

I'm going to get another ultrasound in 7 weeks since they couldn't get all the measurments they needed. I haven't scheduled it yet. Doctor is going to send me to the hospital for this one. They have a better machine.

I think we've decided not to find out the sex. My family is going to be mad but I'm kind of liking the idea of a surprise now.

My next appointment is 10/06

Happy Friday!

I ordered my nursery letters today, now that we know its a girl--Abigail Grace. I got them from a seller on eBay -- you_name_it00, who had 149 positive feedback and no negatives. They will be hand painted to match our bedding. The only bummer is that it takes 6-8 weeks. But, it will be worth waiting for, I hope. The room was kind of boyish, so I'm hoping this will girly it up some. Our bedding is last year's PBK Tie Dye Fish in green and blue. We have a white crib and white dresser/bookcase. Soon to be added is a white changing table.

http://angel.wayne.k12.in.us/AngelUploads/Files/vanceklhc/PBK_tie_dye_fish.jpg

Is anyone else having trouble with the baby pushing on the sciatic nerve in the hips? The only relief I have found is sitting cross-legged. Yesterday, the nurse said if its not better in 2 weeks to call back and they'd give me a referral for physical therapy, which I don't want if it can be avoided. So, if you have this, what relief have your found?

Congrats on your GIRL, Kristen! :) I love that bedding set; really fun! I haven't had that issue, so I'm no help...but I do hope it goes away soon for you.

WB, yay for a healthy nugget! You've got more self-control than I do. If we had the answer in an envelope on the fridge...it wouldn't last. I know it. :D

Angela, surprises really are fun. I promise. :) After all the waiting and everything....it's just so fantastic to hear "It's a ___!" in the delivery room. That's just my take on it, though; everyone is different and finding out is also verrrrrry tempting!

Good luck, Zhanna! Hope everything went well with the offer!

Julie, glad to help! :)

Hi to everyone else! *waves* Nothing really new to report here. I'm halfway through tomorrow - 20 weeks on the nose. HOW did that happen??? I swear, this pregnancy is absolutely flying past. We really need to get DD moved out of the crib and into her big-girl bed. Like, NOW. I need time to get the bouncy seat, swing, etc. all moved upstairs into Peanut's room, wash the clothes, start stockpiling diapers, etc etc etc...and I need the room before I can do it! Ack! I am so dreading moving her but it's gotta be done.

I really need to get off the computer and start some laundry.... I hate packing for trips.

I think I'm going to take my laptop and try to find some free internet while I'm in Vegas. Ok, who am I kidding? I'll pay for it too. DH will be in classes all day and I can only take so much of the casinos before I'll get bored. I've got some books and magizines to read too. But I'm hoping for some uniterrupted internet time.

I about threw my laptop last night. DH gave my computer to a friend to use since I've got the laptop. DH promised he had copied all the important info to a dvd. I was mostly worried about my geneology research. I've got over 9200 on my family tree right now and I'm not wanting to do all that research again. Well, I went to load the tree to the laptop last night and I couldn't get the right tree to come up. I was livid! But luckily everything is here. It was just in a different view and was hard to tell that it was the same tree. So I owe DH an appology when he gets back from fishing this morning. I thought for sure something had happened and I was going to have to use my last back up (JAN).

Ok, now I must really get this laundry started....

I've been so busy I haven't been able to post. I had my appt on Thursday and all went well. I had gained 4 pounds, which the dr was happy about. I'm up 5-6 pounds total now, so all is well. I go back in another 4 weeks on Oct 5 and I'll have to do the glucose tolerance test. She didn't give me any instructions, so I'm assuming it's the one hour test and I don't have to fast. Very thankful for that!

We are going to wait and make the gender a surprise. I'm going to pick out the bedding this week. I've made that decision and I think once I do that, I'll be able to put the gender issue to rest.

I'm looking forward to the best day! UT is playing Ohio State in football today and I've been looking forward to this for awhile. I love college football and I love Texas football even more. Yesterday DH and I spent the day in Monterey. It was so nice! We got to see the white shark, the sea otters (too cute!), and watched them feed the Outer Bay exhibit with all the tuna fish. Those fish are HUGE and they are FAST when it comes to feeding! WOW! We wandered through the rest of the aquarium and then to lunch (yummy seafood) before heading back home.

On the way home, he decided to stop by Babies R Us. We looked at strollers/car seats a couple of days ago and decided (or so I thought) to go with the Peg Perego P3 and Primo Viaggo seat. I really wanted the pink one, but compromised on the toffee color. However, DH now decides to revisit the issue. We spent over an hour in there playing with almost EVERY stroller in the stupid store. Amazingly, I found a brand new Peg Vicenza on sale for only $200 - marked down from $400. I wanted it so bad...but DH decided he didn't like it. I was pretty pissed because I know *I* will be the one using the stroller 80% of the time...

Anyway, who knows what he will decide on. He's driving me crazy by changing his mind on everything.

Thanks for the good luck wishes on the house ladies! We ended up not getting this house, but we're totally fine with it - the seller did not accept our offer and while we could've gone up higher, we decided not to - DH and I spoke about it again and again and we both felt like we were just settling for this one. We don't want to settle just because we are feeling pressured by time, so - we are going to keep looking... The realtor is supposed to be sending us some new listings to look at, so - hopefully there will be something good among those!

I went to Babies R Us yesterday after doing some shopping at Motherhood for myself. OMG you guys!! They have some of the cutest stuff! I went on Saturday and registered at BRU. I was there 2 1/2 hours and didn't do any bedding, clothes, stuff like that. I only did gear and the infant care. We are going to do custom bedding from a boutique in town, so I'm going to pay for that myself. Once I pick that - hopefully this week - I might go to BRU and pick out some crib sheets and things of that nature.

I had a heck of time choosing my pack-n-play. I don't care for blue, which rules out almost every one. I chose the Laura Ashley in Canterbury as it has lots of bells and whistles. But it is girly (has mauve and dark purple and a ruffle at the bottom). So if we have a boy, I might take it back for something else. I really wanted something black/red/tan or something of that nature. But couldn't find anything.

Ginger - I chose the Peg Perego Pliko in Toffee and the Primo Viaggio car seat in Toffee. I wanted a different color, but was afraid I might get sick of the color after awhile. I figured Toffee can go girl or boy and can be used on #2. Plus that car seat can be used with or without the base. Which means DH doesn't need another base on the off chance we take his car (or grandparents for that matter).

Congrats on your boy Amanda - I'm sure FH is excited to have a little boy. Now you'll have one of each!

Julie - UT lost, but it was still fun to watch. I'm a huge college football fan, so I can get past the win/lose thing (sometimes).

For those of you that registered/purchased anything thus far - did you find anything you loved? Other than my stroller/car seat there isn't much I'm "excited" about. I'd love some recommendations!!

I chose the Laura Ashley in Canterbury as it has lots of bells and whistles. But it is girly (has mauve and dark purple and a ruffle at the bottom).

Ginger - I chose the Peg Perego Pliko in Toffee and the Primo Viaggio car seat in Toffee.

I love to toffee color for the stroller! And you don't use the seat too long, anyway. And I got the Canterbury P-N-P and with so much brown, I think it can go either way. It seems like it will be great to have the bigger changer in the middle of the night. Our bedroom is burgandy, so it matches pretty well, though the brown is fairly neutral.

Amanda Congrats on your boy!

Amanda: Congrats on your BOY! I hope you get settle in to your new place. :)

Tonya: I know the sex, but am trying to refrain from buying too much yet. I figure family will end up buying us some for xmas. :D There are some really cute things out there, though.

Tera: I think that PNP pattern can work for a girl or a boy. Honestly, the baby won't care, ya know. I really didn't use my PNP much. I use it now for vacations and stuff, but most of the time it's in the closet.
Sorry UT lost. ;)

Things I Love: My diaper bag! I have an OIOI Hobo bag and absolutely adore it. Of course, I'm looking for something bigger now, since #2 is on the way. What else....My FP aquarium for the crib is still being used. It helped soothe DS when he was tiny and now he uses it himself when he wakes at night.

I think it could go both ways, it's just a little more girly that I had originally wanted (in case I have a boy). The brown is actually what is making me not want it in my house. I have mostly black accents, with red and green colors. And the brown and burgandy, don't really go that well. But I know my PNP doesn't have to match my house. I was just hoping for a little more selection of colors. I would have liked a PNP just like my stroller or carseat.

I forgot...I came in to say I had my appt. today and all is well. All of the u/s measurements were fine. I asked the DR about VBAC. I know I'm not going to, but I was curious about their stance. She said they often allow VBAC, but in my case, I would only have a 25% chance of success. She told me if you fully dilate and can't push the baby out it is not likely you will in the future. I told her I certainly did not want to go through all of that again. I need a quicker recovery since I'll have DS#1 to care for as well. So I will deliver in week 39. :)
My next appt. is October 9th.

Garden: Have you seen the Central Park color--9957BC? It has toile, but is black and white. or Darby--9951DRB, that appears to be black/tan/red? You can see all the color combos and where to buy each on the Graco website---www.gracobaby.com. They have lots more color choices than BRU. Good luck!!!!

GG and Ginger: The P3 is an excellent stroller. Some (okay, many) people don't love the carseat though. However, the graco snugride is also an excellent carseat and will snap into the P3 so if you can find a color combo you like, I would do that over getting the Peg carseat. You will only use it for such a short time as well, and it is much better for baby to be in the stroller directly if you will be out for a length of time anyhow, and the P3 is newborn appropriate all on it's own :) . I am kind of a stroller addict, I've had too many to count at this point!

I don't have a PNP but I would go with the one that matches your decor the best or that you like the best. It will likely last you through more than 1 child, and you won't generally use it all the time. I had a cosleeper instead and used it as DD's bed for the first 4 months before she slept in her crib full-time. Now we just use a pnp for travelling so we don't care what the pattern is. I will say that the upgraded pnp's with the changing table that is raised up is a nice feature so you don't have to take it off every time. Especially if you are using it as a bed/changing area in the beginning. We also love our FP aquarium, definitely getting a 2nd one as DD will never give hers up, she loves that thing!
Other must haves for me are a bouncy chair and cradle swing (I have the fp aquarium one for both, they are great!).

Amanda - congrats on your boy! It will be fun to have one of each ... that's what I'm hoping for one day.

Winter - I can't believe you are still getting sick! :( I feel so badly for you. Hopefully you'll start feeling better very soon.

Tera - I may have missed it, but did you end up talking to your OB about another u/s? I liked that PNP because of the raised changing table, but I ended up with another pattern (online only, though) called "orchard" because it didn't look too hideous and I just couldn't deal with all the ruffles on the Cantebury, even though I really like the print on the fabric. I'm just not a ruffle person!

Ginger - I'm so envious that you saw the Peg Venezia marked down that much! I was considering that one but didn't want to pay $400 for it. Wonder if I can find it in my area for that price.

Zhanna - Good luck with your continued house hunt!!

Tummy Stuff - I was very regular (sorry for TMI!) when I was eating a plum every day. Now it's getting harder to find good plums so I haven't been feeling as great. ;) If only I liked them in the dried form ...

Strollers - After a very exhausting search at every possible baby store in my area, I ended up choosing the Chicco Cortina travel system at BRU. I've heard good things about the carseat (except that it supposedly doesn't fit in shopping carts in stores) and I really liked the way the stroller folded, even though some people seem to find it a negative. For some reason it just seemed easier to me than the rest! I know I'll end up getting at least one or two other strollers as it is, so I figured this one was pretty reasonable to start with. I really want a jogging stroller to keep at the house ... I don't jog, but we have walking trails around our house and I power walk and I think I'd like that type of stroller better for that. Plus we'll be traveling a lot, so I'll need to find something that is suitable for taking on a plane and such. So much to decide!

Shower - Does anyone else have a shower planned? I actually have one in 2 weeks. It's being thrown by the wives at my DH's work, and due to the nature of their job everyone lives all over the country and this was really the only time everyone could get together. I feel a bit strange having a shower so early, but I'm excited anyway. I peeked at my registry and a few things have already been bought! I have two friends throwing another shower (couples shower) for me and another friend of ours who is due 2/1. And then my mom just called the other day to say her friends want to throw me one. This is all kind of overwhelming for me since I didn't even have an actual bridal shower ... I'm not used to this! I guess everyone gets more excited for a baby than they do for a wedding around here. ;) I feel very grateful for all of this, but it's going to be strange to be the center of attention. I get so nervous about that!

That was a long post! Hope everyone has a great week.

WOW! I can't believe I just typed 22 weeks. In my head I'm still in the teens.

Not much to report babywise...However I did just celebrate my big 3-0 this weekend, and DH actually surprised me with a very nice party. So it was a good weekend, however, pregnancy made the "partying" quite mild. ;)

Tummy Issues Add me to the list. I've started eating Fiber One cereal, but still need to drink more water. And I'd really like to start up on calcium. But prenatals and iron are doing enough damage to the digestive tract on their own.

Stroller I second Mag's suggestion for the P3 and Snugride combo. That's what I had, and I was very pleased with it. Sure it wasn't matchy matchy, but DS was only in the infant seat for 5 mos.

Other "good stuff" The bouncy seat! It's easily transportable, so you can move it from room to room.

I regret not registering for the aquarium swing (or another papasan style seat swing). DS didn't like the swing I got (just regular Graco swing), plus it didn't seem secure when he could reach the sides and he'd lean forward. I swear he was going to tip out of it, and he was not even close to the weight limit. I actually already sold it, and plan on using a friends flutterby swing for DS #2.

The jumperoo. Yes it's a monstrosity, but it was H-O-U-R-S of entertainment for us...and DS too. ;)

Robyn - we decided not to find out the sex of the baby. So I'm not pushing the second ultrasound issue any longer. I'll probably do a 3D/4D ultrasound around 30 weeks, but I don't think we'll want to find out the sex. The more I think about it, it will make everyone so excited in the waiting room to hear the news. Then they can experience the surprise along with us.

Jumperoo - I didn't see it in the store, but I saw it online and I'm going to add it to my list. I saw the ones that hang in the door frame, but believe it or not, we don't have any door frames in the living areas of our home. Sure we do in bedrooms, but I don't want that thing in my bedroom frame. I would want it out in the open where I can watch him/her. We have a new home and they do the arched ways through living, dining, TV room, etc. So this was a good alternative. But I have a question - am I registering for too many "larger toys", i.e. the swing, the exersaucer, and the jumperoo. And the baby Einstein playmat? I don't want to seem greedy, especially after you consider my $299 stroller, $229 car seat, $179 pnp (which I'll get to later), $129 high chair etc. Thoughts girls?

PNP - thanks MD for the ideas on PNP. I was trying to look other places for ones I liked and then just pay for it myself. I'm going to get online now and look at the website you mentioned. I tried last night, but came up empty. I agree about the ruffles Robyn, they are cute, but I'm not wanting cute for my PNP. My living room isn't "cute" - the nursery will be, but not my living room.

Julie - are you okay with having a C? I couldn't tell if you were disappointed in your post. I guess it's probably an erie feeling knowing now when you'll be delivering.

Shower - I am having two showers. One is girls only and is for family and friends. My friend's mother is planning and the date is Nov 4th. I'll be one day shy of 31 weeks. Then a very good friend whose also a co worker is throwing me one on Nov 15th at the office. This one will be about 40ish people, as I work with alot of great folks. I'm in administration, so I'm around all departments. Have fun at yours Robyn! I'm planning on not peaking at my registry, but I'm sure I will. I said the same thing at my bridal showers:)

All that registry talk going on - how exciting! :) We did end up creating a registry on BRU online, but we are keeping it secret for now. Probably, about a month before my due date, we'll start giving it out to close friends and family, IF they happen to ask, but we will also specify to them not to actually give us anything until after the baby is born. I've also included the big things we picked out (crib, nursery furniture, etc.) in the registry, just so that we can go back to it when we are ready to buy this stuff (also - about a month before the due date). I am not expecting anyone to buy these things for us, but it's easier to have them "listed" somewhere.

Showers - I am only having one - at work. My office is huge and they do it for all pregnant ladies, so - I know they are doing it for me too. It's usually a quick event, sometime during the workday. They buy cake, card and some gifts. My best friend works in the same office, so - I asked her to tell everyone not to buy anything, rather - if they want to give us a gift, they can get a gift card to BRU, which we will use towards the purchases we make once the baby is here... Ohhh, the joys of being Jewish... ;)

Robyn: Congrats on choosing a stroller and car seat. :p I won't be having any shower this time, but I think my first one was around week 28 with Collin. I had 3 for him! LOL!
I don't like to be the center of attention, either, but it was really fun.

Jilly:I agree that a bouncer is a great purchase. Collin was in it everyday while I showered! LOL!

Tera: I'm fine with having a C. I was disappointed the first time and it really had a traumatic affect on me. I was fully dilated and pushed for 2 and a half hours. I felt like my body failed me. They could see his head, but he was too far up for an "assisted" delivery. I've made my peace with it and know that having a repeat c is the best thing for me and this baby. :)

jmvan74 -- a VBAC is not an option for me, either, so I will also be having a scheduled c-section around week 39 :) And I think I know exactly how you felt the first time when you say you felt like your body had failed you. It may sound silly to some people, but I went through a sort of "mourning" for the vaginal birth that I never had, especially considering that I had been planning a no or low-intervention birth experience. That mourning period didn't last long, but I needed to go through it in order to accept the fact that my body just didn't do what it was designed to do. And I didn't even go through labor or hard pushing like you did. You deserve a badge of honor! :) This time, I am at peace with the fact that a repeat c/s is the best option for me and my baby, although like GardenGirl mentioned, it sometimes IS weird to know exactly when we'll be delivering. I'm sure it will be even more bizarre once I get my surgery date scheduled! :) But again, I am completely comfortable with the decision to schedule a repeat c-section now, especially after having 3 OBGYNs confirm that a VBAC was highly unlikely to be successful.

Garden Girl --

The only thing I can tell you from experience is that you may not need all those larger toys. Some babies (and moms) could not have survived without their swing, while others didn't care for them. It's hard to say what your baby will prefer. The only advice I would offer is to keep in mind what the BRU return policy is so you know how much time you have to return the large items if you find that your baby doesn't care for them or if you decide you don't "need" them. I am obviously a RO so I have all the "big" stuff from last time and won't be buying anything new. Based on my experience only, my DD didn't care much for her $90 swing. I would love to get rid of it because it just takes up so much space, but I am going to hang on to it until I know whether it works for Nugget or not. You aren't supposed to use the Exersaucer until the baby has good head control and is able to sit up unassisted (the instructions that came with ours said not to use it until 6 months, although I noticed in other threads here that many moms on CC let their babies use the Exersaucer as early as 3 or 4 months), and you won't need a high chair right away either. Due to BRU's return policy, it could be difficult to return items like those if you find out when your child is 4-5 months old that he/she hates the exersaucer, or that you'd rather have a different high chair or whatever. If I was doing it all over again, I think I'd rather get the "essential" stuff up front and then just get gift cards to BRU so I could buy some items later when I needed them, after I found a way to confirm that we were actually going to use them. But again, it's really hard to know what you will actually need and use, without knowing what kind of temperament your little one will have :) It's a tough call.

Congrats on your boy, Amanda!

QOTD - I'm lucky, and so far everything is normal, just like my last pregnancy.

PNP - We actually borrowed my cousin's PNP last time, which was navy/green (she had a boy), but have since given it back and she's given it to someone else. My Mom has one for her house which is navy Graco, I think with teddy bears and the bassinet feature. I've looked around a bit and my DD picked out the baby einstein version. I have to admit, I think I'm going to go with that one just because I don't care about it matching and I used mine a TON with DD. This one has cool 'play' things, and I don't need the changing table feature, just the bassinet part. Although I did see a nice neutral colored one in an ad this weekend that would kind of match our decor

All of a sudden I'm totally anxious about getting things 'set'. I've started clearing out our guest bedroom in an attempt to switch it to a nursery but OMG, it's overwhelming. I stored A LOT of stuff in there. So now I've been hit by the 'clear out the junk' bug not just for that room...but for the whole house! I can't believe this is nesting yet but I'm driving myself nuts wanting to do it but not really having the time to make a dent in anything. I keep thinking, though, that the less 'junk' we have around the house the easier it's going to be to enjoy 2 babies AND a relatively clean house. I wish I could get on that show "Clean Sweep". At least the local charities will benefit as I already have lots of boxes of stuff set aside. How did we accumulate so much, so fast?

QOTD: Anyone else starting to feel antsy about getting things ready?

QOTD: I am definitely very anxious about finally finding a house and knowing where we will be living by the time the baby arrives. There's no reason to start setting anything up in our condo, since most probably (hopefully) it will be sold and we will be moved out and into the new house by the time the baby is here. I hate the feeling of not knowing for sure though and it is making me feel very antsy!

QOTD - I slacked off for the first 5 1/2 months and didn't do anything put post and read CC. Seriously. And now I'm realizing, I need to get it in gear. So I did the registry, this week I'm going to pick out the bedding and order it, then this weekend we are going to put a closet organizer in the nursery. Luckily since we have a new house, we left this room relatively empty. DH has used the closet for his gun safe (a large one) and his cleaning supplies and accessories for his gun collection. So we have to "move" him out of there and that's about it. I couldn't imagine cleaning out an office or guest bedroom like most of you ladies. Or even worse - like Zhanna - not know where I'm going to live. Props to you Z for your state of calmness, I would be paniking.

WB - you are totally right about all the big ticket items. I know the highchair is for later, as is the exersaucer. I just don't want people to look at my registry and think I'm trying to get all this stuff from my friends and family. Maybe I'll take off the high chair and then just buy it myself when we need it. I've heard several people (my good friend who is an April 06 mom) that their babies don't much car for the swing. So I'll hope that it is purchased towards the end of the PG that way I'll have enough time to see if baby likes it and return it if she/he doesn't.

I'm glad that Christmas (and my birthday - the 23rd) are around the babies arrival. I know my parents will be giving us probably everything missing off our registry - they are wonderful giving people. I don't ever ask for it nor do I expect it, but they are generous and I'm appreciative. So maybe they'll be the ones getting the larger "toys" and I won't feel like mooching off my friends and co-workers.

Shower-- We are having my family shower over Thanksgiving because the entire extended family will be here (my bro has a new girlfriend he wants everyone to meet). So I am excited for that. I was trying to get them to make it co-ed and have it as a cookout, but I am not winning on that idea. I know the girls at school want to do something, but I really want a book shower. Everyone is broke around Christmas time and I've bought most of the things I need anyway. So, in theory, each person brings a book and signs the front cover so we will know who it is from. We have a policy of no games at school. Come, eat, open gifts, be out in 45 minutes.

Jumperoo--I really want one of these. The doors in our downstairs are flat, so there is nothing to hook a normal jumper to. We have a big dog, so I need something that keeps the baby off the floor and occupied.

Hope everyone is having an uneventful week. DH's parents called to say they have 3.5 feet of water in their downstairs...again. This is the third time this year alone. The whole street is flooded. His mom is disabled and has major heart issues, and she had to wade in waist deep water in the street just to get from the car down the street to the house. We tried really hard to convince her to let DH go there tomorrow (its about 4 hours away) and bring her here so she can be away from the stress and temptation to do more than she is allowed by the doc. The basement flooded this spring and she ended up in the hospital with chest pains over it. But she won't hear of it. We are scared that she is going to start having problems and an ambulance won't be able to get there. Older people are so stubborn!

QOTD: I'm not too antsy about it. I would like to get the room cleared and painted, though. We moved when I was 6 and a half months pg with Collin, so I didn't do anything until late with him, either. Of course, with the holidays coming, I should probably get on the ball. :p

Hi everyone, I have been so busy lately I haven't been by. Both my husband and I work very demanding, full-time jobs and we opened a business is April (FIL manages it) and it is so time consuming - my husband works 7 days a week and I am averaging 6. I'm actually a little bit sad and scared about how busy we are with everything. My husband is an extremely motivated and entreprenurial person so sometimes he just takes on too much. He is super excited about the baby but is just a huge, huge workaholic and it's hard sometimes.

Anyway, on with happier stuff. The baby is doing amazing and I am too. :) I can now feel kicks and jabs and the baby moving from side to side. It's really great and my husband is so sad he can't feel it yet. Still hoping that will be soon.

I had a midwife appointment yesterday and all is going fab with the baby and with me except for my weight gain. I am now back to 0 with my weight gain for the entire pregnancy. :o I am just so surprised that I cannot seem to gain much weight - it's never been an issue in the past. ;) I came into the pregnancy a very normal size 8 or 10 so I anticipated a normal 25-35 pound weight gain. Well here I am beginning my 23rd week and I am at 0. I am now supposed to be eating 6 small meals a day and 5 of them are to include protein. My appetite is exactly the same as pre-pregnancy and I just don't see how I am going to have time to eat so many times per day. My husband is all upset and worried but I am trying not to stress. My mom only gained 15 pounds with me and my sister had a hard time gaining weight, so maybe it's a genetic thing. I go back to the midwife on 10/16 and hopefully I have will some positive weight gain by then.

Also, my showers will be 11/4 with my family (in another state) and on 11/12 with hubby's family/friends in our town.

QOTD: I'm starting to get a little bit anxious about getting some stuff done for the baby. We literally have done almost nothing and bought almost nothing because we are too busy. :( However, my husband was off yesterday due to elections so I took the day off and we finally went crib shopping. I am happy to report we bought a crib! Here's what we got - Munire Majestic in a hand rubbed black antique finish

http://usababyct.com/images/7900-BLK.jpg

We just got the crib because I'm not sure of what other furniture I want right now. I don't want a "matchy matchy" room so I might mix in some white or vintage-y dressers. Still have no idea on bedding and we like vastly different things. Delivery is not anticipated for 10-14 weeks but that's okay because we haven't painted yet or installed the chair rail.

Old QOTD: about being excited about any baby gear. I am all fired up and in love with the Phil & Ted's E3 stroller. It is awesome and we can't wait to take baby out in it!

Hope everyone is doing well and congrats to everyone who has gotten great U/S news!

I don't think I ever followed up on my concern a couple weeks ago about not feeling the baby move. Well, I'm really feeling the baby move now and have for just about a week. Only at night though. Just when I get all comfortable and ready to fall asleep (sort of my side but a little on my stomach) my child gives me a big kick in the gut to say "Hey, get off your belly, you are squishing me!" So I toss and turn all night trying not to get kicked. Last night was ridiculous. I had to go to one of the guestrooms so I could sleep on my back. You see, I snore on my back and kept waking DH up. The only other time I've felt him/her move/kick me when it wasn't at night was yesterday driving to work. I got 6, yes 6, noticeable kicks to my bladder. It was a very weird feeling. So I'm glad I'm feeling the baby move, I just wish it wasn't nocturnal. I need some sleep!!

MD - finally checked out the gracobaby website. There are quite a few to choose from! I think we'll probably go with Central Park you mentioned. I don't mind the toile at all - as my kitchen chair cushions are in b/w toile. The price is higher than I was expecting ($189), but this model has all the bells and whistles (just like the LA Canterbury). I can't add it to my BRU registry, so I think I'll purchase it myself towards the end of the year. Thanks for the advice. I feel MUCH better.

And oh, I decided to remove the swing from my registry and add the jumperoo. I don't know if I want all those "toys" lying around the house even though I have quite a bit of room. Think about it - PNP, swing, jumperoo, exersaucer, bouncer, playmat ... that takes up a lot of space. However, I do have to ask - how early can you put a child in the swing? I know the jumperoo and exersaucer aren't until around 5ish months - at least until they can confidently hold their head up. If I can put the baby in the swing early (as well as the bouncer), maybe I'll re-add it because I'll want something for when he/she is little. And just keep the other two things for later. Is anyone else considering any of this, or is just me obsessing about the small stuff. I guess it's the only thing I can obsess about now :)

The swing and the bouncy seat are two items you can pretty much use right off the bat. That and a carrier or sling. You're right that everything else doesn't come into play until later.
I kept all the other stuff in its box in the garage until it was needed.
And as for clutter...it's inevitable. I just strategically placed items throughout the house. For example, the bouncer was easily movable so that followed me from room to room. The jumperoo was in the living room for our viewing pleasure. The exersaucer was in my room so I could shower. The PNP I used as a bassinet. Once DS moved into his crib, I put it away and used it only for trips to grandma's....until he outgrew the exersaucer. Then it took it's place in our room for mommy's shower time.
HTH...

jmvan Gosh, our similarities just continue. I too am scheduled for a repeat c-section. I started regressing somewhere between 6 - 7 cm, so I never started pushing, though. I definitely mourned the loss and felt cheated to not get to experience a natural birth again. But weighing the possibility of another 18 hours of labor to be wheeled in the OR strengthened my resolve that this is the right decision for me.
When will your doc let you schedule the date? Mine has already put it on the books.

Tera: Hooray for feeling the baby! I kicked throughout the day, but the evening is the worst. Wait until you get farther along and your insides feel raw from all the kicking! LOL!
I'm glad you found a PNP you like. As for the swing. We used it right away. DS didn't like it at first, but by the time he was a month old, he loved it and would even fall asleep in there.

Jilly: It's crazy how many things we have in common. :D I have to say I think you are lucky that you didn't get to the pushing. It didn't hurt to push, but was exhausting and having your legs at your ears for 2 hours makes it extremely difficult to walk the next day. :o I'm not sure when they'll allow me to schedule the c/s, but the DR. last week said the 39th week. I'll probably ask at my next appt. Is the 15th your c/s date or your due date? I'm guessing I will deliver around the 18th.

I can't say how much the swing was a lifesaver in the beginning. It is one of the 5 "S"'s from Happiest Baby on the Block. I spent many a night the first 2 months asleep on the couch with DD asleep in the swing next to the couch at 3 a.m. You do what you gotta do! (side note, dd is a great sleeper and is already asleep for the night. but in the beginning, anything goes to get that much needed shuteye!). I would definitely have a swing on your registry, and one that goes side to side and front to back. You can always return what you don't like/use.

As usual, sorry for being absent. And no time to catch up, either, DD will be out of the bath shortly and then it's bedtime routine. But a few things I caught to respond to!

Congrats on your boy, Amanda! Hooray! How fun to have one of each!

Shower - none here. I'm hoping to have a little get-together around the holidays, to sort of "celebrate" the arrival of another little one. Without gifts, though, since that's not customary for a second baby (though MAN do I need a bunch of stuff for Peanut anyway!).

Swing: We used ours sporadically. DD didn't love it, but didn't hate it either. She was happier in her bouncy. We'll see about this kid. If this one doesn't really like it either, hey, good resale value! ;)

The baby toy/clutter - well, it starts with a bouncy and PNP and swing and just....progresses from there. I think right now our living room and bedroom are the ONLY two rooms in our house without toys or kid stuff in them somewhere! And come Jan/Feb, DD's toybox will be moving downstairs so we can all be down there together.

Julie and Jilly - reading your posts with interest, because I'm looking at a VBAC after an emergency C with DD (wasn't progressing, DD's h/b kept decelerating with contractions, etc). I'm so totally torn right now, though, because I thought a VBAC was what I wanted....and now, I'm not sure. I'm not sure if I should just say FINE and go with a repeat C. Not sure how the recovery would be this time. I think easier, because I know what to expect...but then again, maybe harder, with a toddler to chase too? Ugh, so torn!!! I guess things could change between now and January anyway (Peanut might not go head-down, etc) so I should just stop worrying about it. ;)
At this point, I'm "planning" to schedule a C for after my due date, and if I go into labor beforehand - we'll just see how it goes. I swear this is one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make!

OK, bathtime's over, must run...

Jen: Did you get to 10cm with DD? My OB explained that b/c I was able to dilate successfully and DS was descending leads them to beleive that my pelvic bones were just too narrow to allow DS down. He was only 6lbs at birth. Apparently I'm shaped like a "V" in there, instead of a "U". The point being, that is not something that will change with future pregnancies, therefore I'm not a good candidate for VBAC. If you're on the fence, I'd talk with your DR about why DD stopped progressing and decide what is best for you and baby #2. Sorry you're so torn.

ButterflyJen

Julie - I think the farthest I got was 3 or 4 cm. They were concerned about DD since her heartrate would decel with every contraction (she was on an internal monitor), so they made the emergency C decision before I had a chance to try to get any further. So I'm not sure about any of that. I almost wish I knew! It might make this decision easier, KWIM?
(though, my mom had issues dilating with me, so maybe that's a genetic thing? She did OK when she had my brother four years later, so who knows!!)

We are inheriting one of the ocean aquarium swings from a friend so that's one less thing we have to worry about buying.

We decided on a crib and were all ready to order it online but we are going to check them out in person one last time. LOL Such a big decision...

I think we also decided on the crib bedding. I keep changing my mind, but I finally put this pattern on the registry. It's by Cocalo. I didn't like it at first, but for some reason, it just grew on me. I love the different fabrics used - tweed, corduroy, chenille, etc. so I decided to go for it. I am even thinking of painting the room in the same colors as they are in the picture. I like the tan paint - tones down the pink a bit.

http://www.cocalo.com/getPhoto.asp?id=19&pho=photo

On another note, we are getting away this weekend. We are heading to Pismo Beach! We have a "dog event" a few times a year down there so off we go! Unfortunately, there won't be another one til July of 2997 so I'm going to soak up as much as possible this time!

Hi all!!! All this c-section talk is getting me really excited. This will be my 3rd c-section. I was induced with DD and was in labor for 27 hours with little to no progress. I was tired and my doc could sense this wasn't going anywhere, so to the OR I went. With DS, I scheduled the c-section and the doc said if I went into labor before that and wanted to try the VBAC, she was fine with it. Well, DS was too cozy, so the day came and I had my c-section. Jen, I don't know if I told you this in LJ or not, but the repeat c was sooooo much easier, even with chasing around a 2 1/2 year old. You'll want help at home the first few days, for sure, though. I'll probably schedule my repeat C at my November appt. I'm hoping so, anyway. I want to get things squared away for sure. I'm hoping for around the 18th, too, Julie. Our EDD's are only one day apart. We'll probably end up on the same day ;) We got the snack schedule for DD's preschool today (each family brings snack a few times throughout the year). She has it the Tuesday before her birthday and Jan 18th. I thought that was pretty funny, considering I'm hoping for that date for the delivery.

ANYWAY! We had the BIG US this morning. Everything with the BABY looks great. I stayed strong and didn't find out the sex. The US tech is a good friend of ours and I asked her if she knew and she said she "might". I know she knows, but that's okay. I really don't wanna know this time and I'm so glad I stuck to my guns. Baby is looking good. Moved around a TON during the scan. Measures a few days ahead, but I'm not surprised by that. I measured ahead with both my kiddos. Estimated the weight at 1lb 1oz. SO teeny tiny!!!

ETA: Ginger-I love your bedding choice. The ice cream is so cute!! And I think you're right with the wall colors. Kinda mutes the pink a bit. But I love the pink!!

I'm excited - I'm leaving in 30 minutes to go to my "bedding consultation." I'm going to (hopefully) be picking out all my fabrics and such for the bedding ensemble and get that ordered today. I'm so glad I called the store to make an appointment. I think this will get me calmed down about the nursery now. I'll finally have some sort of idea of what color scheme we are talking about. I'm sick of everyone asking and I say "I don't know yet." I think getting the nursery together will really make it real for me.

Here's to hoping for lots of cute gender neutral selections ...

More c-section talk

Jen-

Funny thing about the genes, my mom had almost an identical labor experience with me.

I'd really talk openly with your doctor about your concerns. It's a difficult decision, and everyone's situations are different. Just don't beat yourself up. There are no "wrong" decisions. Either way the miracle happens!

Jmvan

My delivery date is set at 1/12/07. I told my doctor I wanted it as close to my due date as she felt comfortable with. I wanted this baby baking as long as possible.

Hmmm...maybe I'm secretly hoping that labor will come on its own prior. Just to see what would happen.

Well I did it. I picked out my bedding. It should be ready in 4-6 weeks and I can't wait. I wish I had a picture of the fabrics I picked out. I'll do a bad job explaining it, but I'll try. I have a baby green toile, a green and white stripe, a green and purple plaid, a cream cashmere (fake of course) fabric, and a cream fabric with cream raised polka dots. It's adorable. I'm going to go back and order a pillow or two for my glider and a toy bag for the crib. I ran out of time.

Now I really feel like I've made headway. I think I might have the nursery walls painted a light purple, but I'm not sure. It would look great with the bedding since there is very little purple in the bedding. The purple and green plaid fabric is only for my ties and the big covered buttons on the outside of the bumper panels. So light purple walls would pull it all together. However, I don't want the room to get too girly just in case we have a boy.

I really am so happy with what I got. I didn't realize how picky I was. Since I didn't want pink (too girly) and nothing with too much blue (too boyish) and I have an aversion to yellow (only in moderation) PLUS I insist on a baby's room being baby - that doesn't leave me much room. I'm actually not this picky with anything else though!!!! Funny what being a mom will do to you!

Jill - you posted as I was typing. I have c section question. You mentioned genes - is there a correlation between moms & daughters and delivery experiences? I ask because my mother had to have an emergency c section with me. My heart rate was dropping drastically and she wasn't progressing fast enough. I'd better at least read about c-sections just in case. Of course, that's probably a prudent thing for anyone to do!

This question wasn't directed at me but thought I'd chime in anyway. I am not aware of a genetic correlation between delivery experiences, but I also haven't really researched it. FWIW, my mom had no problem going into labor on her own and had 3 successful medication-free vaginal deliveries. On the other hand, my body never went into labor at all, I was diagnosed with CPD, and needed a c-section. My mom and I both were/are very petite when we got pregnant and didn't gain more than 30 pounds. Since our body shapes were so similar, you'd think our pelvises would be designed similarly, but it doesn't seem that this was the case. My SIL also needed 2 c-sections to deliver her babies, while my MIL had 2 successful vaginal deliveries. Regardless, it IS interesting to hear of people who had similar experiences to their mothers!

GardenGirl - let us know how your bedding consultation went. That's so neat that you are getting it custom made. And yes, ITA that it is best for every pregnant woman to at least know what to expect with a c-section, even if she isn't planning or expecting one. When I was pregnant with my DD, I knew in the back of my mind that a c-section is a possibility for ANY pregnant woman. But I naively had the idea that it happens to other people, and I never really paid attention to any of the information on c-sections. Fast forward to the end of my pregnancy when nothing was happening and my doctor mentioned that I may need a c-section, and panic set in. I had spent 9 months assuming I'd have a vaginal delivery and suddenly had a couple of days to learn as much as I could about c-sections and what to expect. It was a very stressful, emotional weekend for me before my DD was born. If I had paid more attention to the c-section stuff in our childbirth class, in online message boards, in pregnancy books, etc. I am confident that I would have been more comfortable with everything when I found out I wouldn't be having a vaginal delivery. If anyone can learn something from my mistake, it's to go into labor/delivery with an open mind, knowing that anything can happen. We all have no way of knowing what will happen until our bodies actually get us there :)

jmvan -- It sounds like we will be having our c-sections the same week :) It also sounds like you had CPD (or at least a mild case of it) if your pelvic bones were too narrow to allow your DS to descend?

wagsgirl - I agree with the others, it would be torture for me to know that one of my friends knew my baby's gender when I didn't. But who am I to speak...it's torture enough having that damn envelope with the gender results in it sitting on top of my frige! :)

ButterflyJen -- good luck with your decision. It IS hard. I know I'd really be struggling if a VBAC was an option for me. Whatever you choose, have faith that you'll do the right thing!

C-Section Fortunately, one of the things that I've learned over the last few years is that I'm not exempt from being "someone else." I've come to realize that I'm not immune from difficult situations or trials and tribulations. When Brian and made the decision to start TTC, I knew in the back of my mind that odds were we might have some difficulties. I looked around and since most of my friends didn't have any issues, I thought the chances were we might. We did. Thankfully not as long and arduous as some couples. So now I don't look at life thinking I'm immune to difficult decisions. That also gives me hope though, because I know that great things can happen as well. I just used to go through life thinking nothing bad would ever happen to my family because we are happy, lucky and faithful people and that bad things only happened to others. So know I've taken off my rose colored glasses and I look at all the possibilities. This may sound pessimistic, but if you knew me IRL, you'd know I'm actually a very optomistic and positive person. So now, off my soap box and on the the original c-section post I was going to write. WB - I'm going to go through this pregnancy with open eyes and research c-sections knowing it could be a plausible option. I appreciate your post - as I agree we need to consider all options and not be blind sided when/if the decision of having a C comes into play.

Oh, and I'm not saying that C-sections are trial and tribulations or necessarily "bad" things. If you look forward to a vaginal delivery and at the last minute are faced with a C-Section it can be rather disappointing, I'm sure. That's what I mean. I don't wan to offend anyone by saying that C's are terrible.

Bedding consultation - it went awesome. It took about an hour and it was a one-on-one visit with the owner of the boutique. She had hundreds of fabrics (do I dare say over 1000) to choose from. Swatches of course :) I told her what I liked, what I didn't and sort of what I was looking for. She had some different styles in the store, so we walked around and I told her how I liked the bumper put together and how I liked the ties and if I wanted fabric covered buttons or not. She pulled out the samples of things she thought I liked. I was very picky (like a mentioned in a previous post) so I think that made it a little more difficult on her, but once she saw what I liked - we rocked and rolled. It should be in in about 4-6 weeks which is right before my shower. So maybe my family will be able to see it - who knows. I can't wait to get it in, so I can start putting together the nursery. Of course, I should probably get on the ball and order my furniture!!! It won't help to have bedding if you don't have a crib to put it in :) :)

I tend to believe that the most major differences between our current day deliveries and our mother's deliveries is medical care and nothing to do with genes. I think there are a lot of differences between "standard" medical advice/practices today than there were in the 70's/80's when most of us were born. I believe they used to tell woman to try not to gain more than like 15 pounds or something so birth weights were (on average) smaller (plus a lot more mothers smoked and that lowered birth weight). Another difference is probably the vast, vast majority of our mothers didn't have pre-natal ultrasounds, certain screening tests, non-stress tests, heart rate doppler checks, continuous fetal monitoring while in labor, etc. I think the medical community is now more able to pick and "diagnose" medical issues like CPD, GD, decling fetal heartrate during contractions, etc. that are the cause of many of today's c-sections. Lastly, today's doctors seem to try to stick to a strict 40-week gestation period and there is a lot of induction. I know my MIL remembers being "several weeks late" with my husband and it wasn't a big concern and practically no one was induced for being "overdue". An induction on a cervix that isn't ready can have a c-section rate of like 50%+. Plus, epidurals can sometimes slow down labor and those were not common back in the day.

Anyway, this is my long winded way of saying that I think today's medical standards are so different than our mother's that comparing our deliveries is apples to oranges. I wish I believed more in a genetic component because my mom had 2 drug-free, vaginal deliveries with no issues. :)

Tonya - Congratulations on a great u/s!!! :D

Tera - YAY for picking out the bedding! :)

C-Sections: I find it very strange that I am constantly being asked whether I will be "opting out" of a vaginal delivery... It seems to be a trend around here to "request" a C-Section, whether it's your 1st child or 3rd... I didn't think that requesing a C-Section was even possible - I always thought that it was only done when necessary, but I guess I was wrong? I am hoping to deliver vaginally, but if it is best for me and my baby have a C-Section when time comes, that's what it will be then...

We are leaving to Vegas early tomorrow morning! I am soooooo excited and so is DH. This is our last pre-baby vacation and we will surely make the best of it! :D I hope everyone has a nice weekend and easy week next week! I'll try to check in at least once during vacation.

Hi all! Had an appt. yesterday with the midwife. All is well, I gained 6 lbs.! so I am up a total of 15 lbs. right now. Yikes. I only gained 24 with my DD, but I also lost 7 lbs. in the beginning so it was like a "free" 7 lbs. later on. I wasn't nearly as sick this time so I didn't lose any weight, so here I am. The midwife estimates I'll be at 30-35 total which is okay, but I am going to really lay off the junk from now on. I just have been so hungry lately! But I know it's better to eat healthy stuff instead of junk.

c-section I really do not want a c-section. It is major surgery and the recovery time is longer. I am hoping for another vaginal delivery, this time with an easier time as well (hoping for a shorter labor/pushing phase, no vacuum, no/smaller episiotomy, etc.). I don't think there is anything wrong once you have had a c-section to have one again, but I don't feel like a first time mom should elect to have one for no good reason. JMHO.

Next appt. is on Oct. 19 and I'll be taking the 1 hour glucose test. Yeah!

Winter Biscuit-We did that "envelope" thing with our DD. Seriously, SHRED IT NOW!!! The temptation became so great, and we both knew we didn't want to know, so we ended up shredding it. It was like the envelope was staring me in the face every time I went in the room.

C-section-I'm glad to hear all the c-section talk in here. I've said it before, but I'm going on my 3rd. The first wasn't at all planned. All of a sudden, the doc said c-section, someone from anesthesia came in to talk to me about the spinal block and I signed some papers and I was rolled into the OR. I really wish I would have done some reading up on c-sections and what it all entails. Props to those of you who are researching it ahead of time, knowing that not all births happen as you plan it. Like life. You tell God your plans and he laughs... ;)

Regarding my US, the friend has known my husband since he was in elementary school. Her son went to school with my DH. So, it's not like we see her all the time or anything, because she's our parents age. ;) But, yes, it's still hard to know that someone we know knows what we're having and we don't.

Congrats Elenna and amwilson615 on your boys.

I had a good time in Vegas. But I think I've had enough 2nd hand smoke to last me a lifetime. I never did get online. I spent time sleeping and shopping and some time on the slots.

We're in Phoenix now at some families home. We leave Sunday.

tummy troubles not sure if it was the smoke or if I just ate too much but I've gotten sick in the middle of the night the past two nights. Not a fun time.

shower my sister has scheduled one for Nov 11th. I think I've got about 35 people on the invite list. Mostly my family and friends. I'll invite the SILs but I'm not close to the rest of his family.

like mother like daughter I kind of hope I take after my mom for labor. She was in labor for less than 5 hours with me. She said she pushed twice. With my sister it was less than 2 hours. Her doctor told her if she was going to have a 3rd that she'd better camp out at the hospital. And do it early. Both my sister and I where 3-4 weeks early.

slacking yep - I've got nothing done. The room is a mess. I'm so not wanting to work on it. I have worked on the registery a bit. But just online. I haven't made it to the stores to see if the stuff I picked is actually available. And add the things you can't add online.

movement I've been feeling the baby move almost daily. Can't feel it from the outside so DH is feeling left out. It's pretty wild.

Well, I'm going to hit the sack. It's been a long day of traveling. I'm sure I missed some news and questions. I'm sure you'll forgive me :p

Plus, epidurals can sometimes slow down labor and those were not common back in the day.

I agree with this, but it was also a lot more common to "knock" the mom out and she wasn't even awake for the birth. Also an epidural often allows a woman to dilate faster when she is able to relax (which was the case for me.) Each person's body is going to react so differently to any type of medication, ykwim. :)

Elenna: Congrats on your BOY!

Angela: Glad you had a good time in Vegas, but sorry to hear you've been getting sick. Yuck.

Zhanna: I find it strange that people would ask you about a c/s. The only people that have asked me this question are people who know I've already had a c/s. "Opting out" of a vaginal delivery is not something that is common place in my area. I've honestly only heard of it for celebrities, although I'm sure others do it.

Just popping in to save us from the bottom of page two - we all must be very busy today! I haven't gotten much office work done, but I've gotten some personal work done. Ha! I've had a list of things to do for weeks now and I finally called the plumber to fix the leaky faucet, called the exterminator to get rid of the ants in the backyard, scheduled the carpet cleaning, order new contact lenses and now I'm waiting to hear how much it is to get my car repaired (brakes are having issues). I've been on the phone all afternoon!

Baby keeps kicking what I think are my bowels. I keep getting a funny feeling that feels like a kick, but tingles my intestines - it's weird! It isn't gas, as I know what that feels like (trust me) :)

Okay, going to go get some office work done before I leave for the day. Oh, I'm such a bad worker today!!!!!

Hi everyone!

I took the plunge. I have felt AWFUL with a cold and sore throat since Thursday. Friday, I went to my physician to rule out strep, and she told me to take Tylenol and suck it up. I hadn't taken anything the whole pregnancy. But, today I feel worse and am totally stuffed up/can't breathe through the nose. I had been using saline drops and Tylenol off and on all weekend to no success. My doc has a list of ok drugs, but some of them are class C and worry me. I want to trust the doc, but why would she say class C drugs are ok??? But, I couldn't take it any more and took some Benadryl, which is on my ok list from the doc. Its supposed to be ok after first trimester, according to safefetus.com. But it still has a scary list of side effects. I was debating between that and Clortriamton, but the pharmacist said Benadryl was more effective, although it makes you sleepy. Has anyone else's doc ok'd Benadryl?

Garden Hooray for being efficient!

jmvan A good friend couldn't dialate until she had the epi and some sleeping meds. They were considering a C/S, but she went really fast after falling into a medically induced sleep.

Hope everyone had a good Monday!

Oh I have so much to comment on...

Congrats, Elenna, on your boy! :)

Kristen, I hope you feel better soon!! don't worry about the Benadryl, I heard it was OK too.

Ginger, love the bedding! Ice cream, too cute! And I like that wall color with it.

Tera, I totally know what feeling you're talking about. It is soooooo weird. ;)

Slacking - oh yes. I typed up a giant list of all I need to do before Peanut arrives last week. It's freaking me out. ;) Did I mention I'm sort of a control freak? Could you tell? ;)

Quick update here: Peanut's definitely getting bigger. The kickboxing is in full effect in there. The thumps, bumps, kicks, and pushes are huge now! I love every second of it. Last night Peanut gave me a good kick and I put DH's hand on my belly to feel...Peanut didn't kick anymore, but I got a major B/H contraction at that time. My entire belly just tightened right up and stayed that way for a couple of minutes. So weird. DH could feel it too. I didn't realize I could have big ones like that already...

OK. Regarding C-sections and births and such. Tera, you hit it right on by saying this:
If you look forward to a vaginal delivery and at the last minute are faced with a C-Section it can be rather disappointing, I'm sure.
That's what happened with me, same thing as happened to Tonya. They said "emergency C" and the room filled up with people. People kept introducing themselves to me: "Hi, I'm so-and-so, your anesthesiologist" etc. They needed to prick my finger for some reason and I just held it out. I was so defeated, tired, emotional at that point. I just remember bawling like crazy in my bed as they're prepping me/DH, because I was so disappointed that I had to have a C-section. I wasn't prepared at all. I hadn't read up on it, because why would it happen to me? Well, it did. So definitely prepare yourself!! A C-section IS NOT a bad thing, I swear it...it's just so hard to accept when you haven't prepared yourself for the possibility of having one. Obviously I still haven't accepted it, if I'm battling the VBAC decision so much. ;)
it was also a lot more common to "knock" the mom out and she wasn't even awake for the birth.
Yup, Julie, this was my mom with me. She was literally the last person to know I was a girl...because she was knocked out, they delivered me with forceps (yikes!), and my dad was so excited he called everyone before she was awake! Yeah, she wasn't too happy. ;)

Tonya, I don't think you mentioned that, so thank you. I think my biggest concern with the repeat C is having DD to care for afterwards as well as Peanut. So hearing that the second one isn't as bad is helping a lot!! I think, as of right now, we'll just decide (with the OB) on a final date for me and schedule a C, like you did with DS. If I go into labor beforehand - great, I'll try for the VBAC. I'm most nervous about laboring forever, THEN having the C, and having to recover from all that, I guess...so that's really what's freaking me out. UGH!!! Must I agonize over everything...

WB, thanks. It's the hardest decision I've had to make thus far! Either way, this baby's coming, so I should just try to remember that as I struggle with this decision. Luckily DH and the rest of my family are being very supportive and not trying to influence me one way or the other. They're letting me make this decision on my own, which I greatly appreciate.

OK, I NEED to try to go to bed now. Night all!

Oh jeez, Kristen! If you feel so guilty about a Tylenol, I can't imagine how you would feel with MY routine. I am still having headache issues and having to take vicodin ever few days or so. I just had an appointment with my neurologist to go over everything and he said I could take vicodin 2 days a week and everything is fine. If the vicodin doesn't work, he can even give me other narcotics. I have been fortunate enough that I haven't had to take anything in the last week or so.

We had a great weekend in Pismo Beach. They had a news crew out covering the beach party and they even showed my doggie, Lucy, on the news. She's a star! ;)

Jen- It is/was one of the hardest decisions for me to make thus far in my life. I went ahead and picked the final date (albiet a week before my EDD with Greydon). My doc said I could postpone if I wanted to, but this statement of yours was my biggest fear:
I'm most nervous about laboring forever, THEN having the C, and having to recover from all that
I knew I had DD to take care of at home and I didn't want the pain/recovery of both a labor and c-section. I think that's why my recovery was so much quicker the first time, because my body wasn't all tired out from 27 hours of labor...

And Tonya, I think that's why I'm starting to lean towards a repeat C instead of a VBAC. I just need to get my brain to be OK with that and then I'll be fine. ;)

Congrats Elenna on your boy!! :D

Slacking -- By nature I am a major planner (some might say control freak ;)), yet surprisingly I haven't done a thing to prepare for Nugget's upcoming arrival. We still haven't figured out what we're going to do about a crib, nor have we ordered window treatment for Nugget's room yet.

mommydearest - I hope you are feeling better! I think my doctor did say that Benadryl was OK, although I haven't taken it for anything.

wagsgirl -- we did the envelope thing with DD too and we actually made it to the end of the pregnancy without giving in to temptation :D So far I haven't even touched the envelope since my u/s, but we'll see what happens when I get to the end of this pregnancy ;)

wine_o-girlie -- I agree with you that the biggest difference between today's deliveries and those of (most of) our mothers' generations has to do with medical care. I think we are fortunate that today's doctors know more than previous generations did. On the same token, I have mixed feelings about this....it all depends on the situation, I guess. On one hand, mortality rates for infants and mothers are way down. Way back, it was common for mothers or infants to die during childbirth. On the other hand, c-section rates are at an all-time high, it's common to schedule inductions, etc. Some of the change is good (c-sections are allowing some babies to survive delivery where in the past, they likely would have died, etc.) some of it isn't necessarily good. Like I said, it all depends. It's funny that your MIL recalls being several weeks late. I was born over 2 weeks "late" yet I came in weighing under 7 pounds. I was my mom's 3rd child and it just seems unlikely that she would have gone that "late" and delivered an average-weight baby. I have to wonder if my mom's OBGYN estimated her due date based on her LMP (assuming she had "perfect" 28-day cycles, which many women do NOT), rather than using her conception date like many of today's OBGYN's do.

Zhanna - I also find it strange that people are asking you about a c-section when there is no valid reason for you to have one (at least, not that you are aware of). This is JMHO but I have to say that I'd find it hard to respect a medical professional who would allow a woman to choose a c-section out of convenience rather than necessity.

Quick update - I feel huge, yet I know that I still have a LOT of growing to do. This belly is getting uncomfortable to sleep with. What's sad is that I've already outgrown some of my maternity pants and had to buy new ones. Nugget is a very active baby and kicks alot, but I have definitely noticed that the kicks are not as strong and forceful as my DD's kicks were. DD was very active in utero and was (and still is) a very high-energy child. I'm hoping the softer kicks mean that I'll have a more laid back kid this time around ;) I've noticed a few BH contractions too. It's so weird to feel my belly all tightened up like that.

WB-My DD was VERY active in utero and she's very active now. DS was more subdued in utero and he still is a very laid back kinda kid. This one seems pretty active right now, so we'll see. Here's hoping for a laid back one for you! ;)

Braxton Hicks-I've been feeling them a bit, too. Once or twice a day, usually in the evening...

Can't believe I'm 6 months. That totally weirds me out. I need to get the furniture ordered and then it will be smooth sailing from here on out. I won't need to buy anything else until after my showers.

I registered for our childbirth preparedness classes yesterday. DH asks every Sunday (when our weeks begin), "When can we start our classes." I tell him, not for awhile honey. So now that I've registered and put them on our calendar, he might not ask anymore. He's so excited - he can't stand to wait any more. We start Nov 13, I'll be 32 weeks.

About the classes - our hospital offers the 4 week (3 hours one night a week) Childbirth Preparedness class that includes all the basics you'll find. It covers cesarean delivery as well. However, the hospital also offers another in depth class strictly on cesareans. Do you think it would be a good idea to go to the in depth class as well or just the general one? I've signed up for the breastfeeding class too, so I don't want to go to a bunch of classes, but I do want the be prepared. Two other classes that interest me "Life with Baby" and "Infant Safety and CPR." Not sure if you take those before or after delivery. Thoughts on all that?

Tera - holy man, 6 mos already?? Wow! Time is flying! :) As for the classes, that's really up to you and how much you want to prepare for the possibility of a C-section. If you don't mind one more class and you can afford it - I'd do it. I wish our hospital had offered something like that!!!

Our "Life With Baby" type class was not as good as I expected. A lot of it was watching videos and seeing pictures of newborns. We got 10 minutes, maybe, of learning to bathe (which you'll learn at the hospital anyway, most likely) and we got to diaper a doll. Eh. You'll learn that at the hospital too. So I'd skip that one, personally.

As for the CPR class, I actually want to take another one as a refresher!! :) Before or after - that's up to you. Are you going to have the time/be able to leave the baby for a few hours at nighttime to take the class, etc? If so - then yeah, you could wait till after baby comes.
