Thanks for the reminder. I asked my doctor about signing up for classes at my last appointment. She said to call and ask how fast they are filling up.

I've seen the schedule online. Now I've just got to sit down with DH and pick a day of the week.

My hospital offers classes similar to Garden Girls.

Wow - I can't believe we will be hitting the 6 months mark in just a few weeks! It makes me feel I still have so much to do to prepare for this!

I guess I should go ahead and register DH and myself for some childbirth classes. That would be a good place to start...

Thanks everyone for making me feel better about the Benadryl. What a difference! I feel like a real person again today, although I have a cough. Anything is better than yesterday!

When I got home today, the rest of my FuzziBunz cloth diapers were sitting on the porch. Hooray! It sounds silly, but they are sooooo cute and I can't wait to use them. It totally brightened my day. I have Kissaluv size 0s and FuzziBunz x-smalls for the beginning, but I got to pick girl colors for this order of size smalls. My good friend uses them as well and loves them. Luckily, they go on like regular diapers for the other caregivers. I'm afraid of pre-folds!

I hope everyone had a good day today. I'm off to make some dinner.

Kristin - Benadryl was a life saver for me when I had my sinus infection/bronchitus. There was no way I'd get any rest other wise. Isn't exciting to get things in the mail and have them waiting for you when you get home. I got my new Gap trousers in the mail last night and they fit awesome. I actually felt hot in my new outfit today. That is hot, as in good looking - I've been feeling temperature hot for weeks! Haha!!!

I'm glad I went ahead and scheduled my classes. The 4 week classes start every 5 weeks. I would have had to start in the middle of Oct (which is almost full), but I thought it was too early. Or, it would have been all of December and that would really be pushing it, especially with the holidays.

I think I might take the CPR class ahead of time, I don't know the first thing about CPR, plus I'm not sure if I'll have time afterwards.

Dh and I went out to Baby Depot last night and picked up the 4 piece bedding set! Yippee!! Now I can go get the paints matched and get that ugly room painted!!

Also, got email that the nursery furniture is going to be delivered today. We will pseudo assemple it just to make sure all the pieces are there and whatnot, but then it's going back inthe box til the nursery gets painted.

It's so nice to be making progress on these things. I'm so afraid of rushing around in the last minute trying to get things together...

I've been offline for 4 days. I just wanted to pop in and say hi. I'll be back later for SO's and an update. ;)

I'm very impressed at the progress many of you are making on your nurseries! I haven't even gone into the room that will be our DS's room...I've opened the door to throw in shopping bags of stuff, but that's all I've done! I am going to order the furniture sometime in the next few weeks and my in-laws and DH will paint when they visit in December. I'm in no rush! But I totally understand what it's like when it's your first baby!

Kristen: Glad you are feeling better. I take Tylenol quite often these days. When I was pg with Collin I had such a bad sinus infection and cough that I was on robitussin with codeine and zithromax. It's best for baby to have a healthy mommy. ;)

Cloth diapers: They are awfully cute. I did prefolds for about a week. They weren't hard at all. DS was very sensitive to being wet and I felt like all I did was change him all day. When we switched to disposies it cut out a few changes a day. I was also kind of grossed out about putting them in the washing machine. :o I have thought about doing more research on the "g" diapers.

Tonya: I really hope that this baby is not as active once he arrives! LOL! Collin is a spitfire and if I have 2 that way I think I'll go batty! :D This baby is way more active than Collin was.

Classes: Hooray to everyone who has scheduled their classes! Our newborn basics class stunk. It really didn't tell us anything we didn't know.

Ginger:Hooray for the bedding! Did you get the ice cream set? So cute.

Jen: I guess your dad was too excited to wait for your mom. LOL! Your poor mom. My mom said she was only out for about 10 minutes with me.

Nursery: I picked out pain colors and bought shelves for the room. I was going to paint the room sage, but decided to go with blue. 3 walls will be "silly old bluebirds" and one wall will be "acre sky". They're both disney colors from Home Depot. The first one is a pale blue and the second one is a brighter blue.

Yeah - We did the ice cream set. I just couldn't resist the tweed fabric...LOL

Latest ailments: I've been having major back pains for the past few days. Tylenol is my friend. I don't think I could sleep w/o it. I'm sure it has a lot to do with carrying around a 23lb toddler, but what can ya do? I am also experiencing some reflux. I didn't have either of these problems with Collin. At least not until the very end.

jmvan74--my backaches/thigh aches get a lot better if I sit indian style leaning just a tad forward for a few minutes. It seems weird, but for me, I swear it works.

Good luck!

Well, I took the Management of Maternity class here at work yesterday. Had a lady talk about car seats (I work at an insurance company), an HR rep talk about our benefits, and watched a video on breastfeeding. They could have made the class a lot shorter and just had the HR guy talk. But we did get goodie bad of free samples and a bunch of information to read on our own.

We get 6-8 weeks paid sick time (until your doctor releases you to come back to work) Then you can use your vacation. (I've got 6-7 weeks saved up) And then you can take up to 12 weeks unpaid leave protected by FMLA. So technically I could be off work for up to 6 months. But there's no way we could afford 12 weeks of me not getting paid. But they said you didn't have to take the Family leave consecutively. Some people take Monday and Fridays off or whatever works with your schedule. I might be able to swing a shortened work week for a while.

Who knows. I guess we'll see how much I end up paying for daycare and other baby related expenses. I might not be able to afford ANYTHING!

It was odd being in the class with other ladies that are only 19 weeks and look 3 times as pregnant as I do. I guess it just goes to prove that every body is different.

ETA: I just joked with my boss that I could be gone for up to 6 months. He said he was afraid I'd find that out. That's why he doesn't like that class. :)

I agree with Kristin, I sit Indian style and that really helps my hips. But I still think I will ask the doctor on my next visit (two weeks). My right hip is really bothering me, to the point that I can't get to sleep. It is causing my right leg to fall asleep/tingle. I sleep on my left side at night, or slightly on my stomach with a wedged pillow around my belly. I don't sleep on my right side, so I don't know whats really causing the pain. I put my feet up at work and have a pillow in my lower back to keep me supported. Other than that I feel GREAT. I really do and I'm so thankful I don't suffer from headaches and such like a few of you ladies do!

I'm meeting DH for lunch today and we are going to the baby furniture store to make the final decision on our crib/dresser/hutch whatever (yes, it will be a long lunch:) ). We were going to get the convertible crib, but after thinking about it - I'm not sure I really like the way they look when they are a full sized bed. Plus, when you turn them to full beds, they have holes in the headboard where the rails for the crib used to be. We'll see. Wish me luck! I have to get it ordered ASAP, because I realized I only have 15 weeks (+/- a day or two) until my due date and I've heard some horror stories about furniture taking 16 weeks. I'm going to order the glider this weekend (as my parents are getting that for us as a gift). I'm deciding between a Best Chair (storytime series) or a Dutalier. I've heard the Bests only take 10 weeks at most, but the Dutaliers can take 16+ weeks. Anyone have any experience with that?

Angela - your maternity policy sounds a lot like mine. I'm very thankful for what I recieve. I only get 60% of my salary while out on disability for the 6-8 weeks, but I get 100% of my salary for one full month paid for by the company, plus my sick and vacation time - 6 weeks at 100%.

Ginger - I'm jealous you have your bedding already. I have an empty room with shopping bags on the floor. It will be awhile before my nursery even resembles a nursery:) :)

Angela: Sounds like you have a decent maternity leave. That's great. Were the other women in your group also in their first pregnancy? It makes a difference size wise. :p I seriously look like I am almost done. I need to update my belly shot.

Tera: Have fun furniture shopping! You'll have a nursery before you know it. ;) I don't have any experience with those gliders. I just have a cheapie from BRU.

Heck, my shopping bags didn't even make it to the room. I've got a pile on the dining room table.

Were the other women in your group also in their first pregnancy?

Most were. There were a few on their 2nd.

jmvan74 - I look like I'm almost done, too! Sometimes I feel like some type of walking science experiment - people look at me and exclaim, "Wow, you're HUGE! Are you due soon?" Um, no, I still have 4 more months to go!! I've already outgrown some of my maternity pants :o What's funny is I looked at the belly shots I took when I was pregnant with DD (including one we took the morning we left for the hospital at 41.5) and I am reminded once again that just when I think I can't grow any bigger, I can and probably will! I think I'm huge now, but I'm not even half the size I was when I was 41.5 weeks pg with DD :D

GardenGirl - have fun shopping :) I think you're wise to get the furniture ordered early. I was one of those people who had a nightmare with the furniture delivery - it took us 6 months to get our crib in! FWIW, my DD had a convertible crib and she has been using it as a full-size bed for over a year now. There are no visible holes in the headboard or footboard where the crib rails used to be. On the inside, lower sides of the headboard you can see where the crib rails went, but those slots are quite low and not visible when the bed is put together and in use. But, it may also depend on who manufactures the crib; we have a Legacy crib.

I'm excited for those of you who have great maternity leave policies :) When I was on leave (12 weeks) after I had my DD, the entire leave was fully paid except for 10 days (or 2 weeks). It was nice. BUT, I had to use every single PTO day I had, and then my employer gave me 8 weeks at full pay. I didn't use STD. When I returned to work in mid-March, I didn't have ANY PTO time to take until July 1, and it really sucked because my DD did get sick a few times :( Luckily, my boss was very understanding and allowed me to stay home anyway and just make the time up later.

This time, I expect that I will get at least 8 weeks at full pay again since I am having another c-section. The good news is that things have changed in the last few years and I am no longer required to use all my PTO on my leave before the other benefits kick in, so I am definitely going to save several PTO days for when I return, in case I want or need to take time off after the baby comes. (My PTO bank won't refresh until July, so I need sometime to tide me over in those 2-3 months.) I anticipate that I'll probably have more unpaid days this time (not really sure - need to talk to HR since I do qualify for up to 16 weeks paid time off under our salary continuation policy), but that's OK with me and won't cause any issues.

Latest ailments: My upper back has started to ache. I never had any type of back ache/pain when I was pregnant with DD, so this is new to me. But, like jmvan74, it could very well be from hauling my toddler around (she weighs 34 pounds!) along with all the extra weight in my belly. I think it's time to pamper myself with a nice long prenatal massage ;)

I haven't been around for a while because DD came down with a stomach flu on Friday :( She's very rarely sick with even the sniffles so this was yucky. It basically ended after 24 hours almost to the exact hour. Thank goodness! But I felt so sorry for her because I was helpless to do anything except make her comfy as possible while it ran its course.

Then we had FIL's 'surprise' b-day party which I survived. I have a million other reasons why I kind of dread having to spend time with them (I know, that sounds terrible), but among one of them is they think they know my DD better than me. It drives me insane! I have to try to bite my tongue so I don't appear to be some hovering mother hen, but I know what she likes to do and doesn't like to do so back off! Especially now that I have PG hormones on my side! :p I just don't understand where people come off thinking a child's mother doesn't know what is best for the child. ARGH!

I weighed myself this morning and basically I've gained enough to be within the 'total expected weight gain' range for the entire pregnancy. No wonder I'm out of breath after going up the stairs! I'm trying not to freak out because I know I'm not eating that bad (could be better, sure, but really, not that bad), and I'm not just sitting on the couch (plus I'm in my DD's swim class and I actually get a workout, too!), and I'm really close to the reate of weight I gained with DD. But it's still a surprise to read the scale because I don't think I LOOK that much bigger (well, except my belly, I'm sure people think I'm due next week).

Latest Ailment: Just today I've noticed I have that 'kicked in the crotch' feeling. I thought I got that much later on with DD...but I can't be sure. Hopefully it's just temporary because I really don't want another 4 months of this. Sleep is difficult lately, too. My hips ache if I stay too long on one side, but by the time I wake up and realize it, it hurts! I have to try propping more pillows, maybe.

Time Off: I'm envious of those of you that get paid time off. I work for a small company (less than 20 employees) so last time with DD I just took my paid time I had accrued. This time I don't know how much I'll even have available, PLUS now I'm part time, so I'm pretty much sans pay while I'm out.

Lucy Van Pelt
09-21-2006, 01:24 PM
Time Off - Well, I had already anticipated not working after I have the baby, but the way things look right now I won't be working anymore before the baby either. I have been to a few temp agencies and they all want me for 6 month assignments which I obviously can't do. I asked DH is he wanted me to look into retail just to bring in some money and he said no because then I would have to work evenings and weekends and he doesn't want that - neither do I!

Meanwhile, I am trying to become more domestic! I am trying to cook new things for dinner and I am in the midst of making DH an apple tart! Hopefully it turns out!

The crib and dresser/changing table arrived yesterday! They are stillin boxes though. I am supposed to get the rest of the junk cleared out of the nursery, but I just don't know where it's supposed to go! A lot of it is stuff from my desk when I was working, but I don't want to throw it away either.

I talked to my friend about my baby shower. The timing is so hard - I don't want to do December for obvious reasons, but November seems too early so we are looking at early January. Then I have to decide where I want it to be - up in Sacramento or down here in the Bay Area. There are plusses and minues to both so I will just have to sit down and write them both out and make a decision.

GardenGirl

Ginger - I was chuckling to myself that you were going to have your shower in early January and then I realized you are due 20 days after me, so that will be fine. Sometimes I forget that even in a January buddy group, you are still going to have people 3-4 weeks apart:) I'm jealous you already have your furniture. I did order mine today ...

Furniture - DH and I ordered the furniture today. We are getting a Natart crib in French White. It converts to a toddler bed, but not a full size. We also got the 6 drawer dresser and hutch that match. We aren't doing a changing table (not enough room). I'm absolutely in love with what we picked out. It was a little more that I had originally wanted to spend, but DH could tell I really liked the crib. I tried to find a case piece in a different line, but had an issue matching the color. It will be in 12 weeks. That's only 15 weeks before the due date. But it is 10 days or so before Christmas, so that's good. I asked the saleswomen if they ever come in early and she said no. She also said they hardly ever come in late and if they do it's only a few days or maybe a week. So I'm not worried about not having it. I'm going to order the glider with my mom on Monday and that takes 10 weeks - I found my answer from the saleslady. So it will arrive around the same time as the furniture.

So now I'm basically done until after my showers. Then I'll fill in the pieces of what we are missing. I feel good.

Hi ladies. Been a while since I last stopped by. Things have been quite busy. My mom is doing a little better. Good thing is she is out of ICU for nearly a wk now. Next step is rehab. And hopefully getting to talk to a doctor on a regular basis (which hasn't happened up until now).

We found out what we are having though I won't bank on it 100% just yet. Baby was measuring closer to the EDD we got at the first u/s so probably will arrive in early February.

It's a Boy!!!

GG- don't know if you still want to know about dutailier but I ordered mine with custom fabric (that I bought and sent them) and it took about 10 weeks for the glider and then the ottoman took another 4 weeks. So it all worked out fine, and I think if you were ordering a stock fabric from them it woud be even quicker. I chose that over a best chair type glider because that way I could just order new cushions for the next baby if it was a different gender, which I am doing this time around. However, since you are having a surprise you are probably going gender neutral so you can use it again as-is for a second baby.

Congrats on the boy, USAF!

Usawife - yeah for another boy in the January thread! You'll now have one of each! I'll have to check the front page and see if this what you thought you were having. I'm so glad to hear your mom is doing better. That is a load of stress off your shoulders, I'm sure.

Wagsgirl - I have to convince myself every day that I want the surprise. But when I go to the stores and see girl or boy things it makes me second guess my decision. Especially since we are considering having a 4D u/s done around 30w. I'm sure we'll be able to tell then, so I'll have to make myself not look or not ask. Talk about self control!

Angela - my little one hasn't been that active in the past few days. DH keeps asking me "Am I doing something wrong, I can't feel it." I told him it might be awhile, as I can't feel things from the outside yet either. We just don't have a very active child ... yet.

Magdesilver - we are going to go with the Dutalier. It is slightly smaller in design (not the actual seat area though) than the Best I was looking at. We don't have a large nursery so I think an oversized chair might be too much. Plus, they have the green toile that is part of our bedding as stock fabric. We are doing a fully upholestered chair and yes, it will be gender neutral - everything I have is neutral - AAAAAHHHH! My girlfriend had a fully upholestered chair that took about 9-10 weeks and she had actually changed her order one week after placing it. So I'm feeling good about my selections.

I bought the fleece/chamois lamb critter chair from PBK this morning (online). I couldn't help myself. I saw it on someone's nursery pic on another thread and just had to have it. After I get this, I don't think I'll be doing any more purchasing until after the shower. At least I'm planning on it :) :) :)

Congrats, Meri and Lorelai on your BOYS!

I've been reading along, and I really enjoy being up-to-date with all of you. I'm not sure if I will remember all of the SO's I wanted to do, but a few things I remember:

Ginger: I LOVE that bedding set you picked out. Too cute!

C-Sections: IMHO, I feel like people get induced and have c-sections way too frequently these days. My mom is a medical professional, and she is constantly shocked at the amount of people who schedule c-secs out of convenience, rather than need. Anyway, I had a "textbook" delivery with DD, and am hoping for the same with DS. With that being said, I'm gonna prepare myself for the possibility of a C-sec. For me, the whole labor and delivery experience was about expectation. Knowing what to expect was the key--so I'm gonna learn about C-sec too.

Nursery: We won't be having a nursery. We'll have a changing table and a co-sleeper in our bedroom, and that will be it. Later, we might try to squeeze the crib in somehow, but we'll see. The crib is round, so typical cribsets aren't a possibility. We won't be painting or doing anything too decorative either. Maybe, a picture over the changing table. Who knows????

Ailments: Had to laugh when I read the "kicked in the crotch" feeling--I've had that for a few weeks now. My belly is getting uncomfortable, especially for sleep. Getting some lower back pain. And, lately, I have been REALLY sleepy every day. I was feeling rather energetic, but, for the past week, it seems I cannot get enough sleep.

Movement: I'm feeling the baby move now. Still none from the outside, so FH is waiting patiently.

Prenatal Care: Now that I've moved, and my ob provider is over an hour away, I'm switching my care to a facility that is closer. I was thinking about switching anyway, cause I just didn't feel good with the standard of care where I was. Anyway, I will be going to my previously scheduled appt with my old ob on September 25th, and then will start with the new provider on October 9th. Once I get to the new place (which is located right in the hospital where I will deliver), I'm gonna find out more about classes and such.

Baby Shower: We are gonna have my shower on November 4th. The invite list is in the 60's right now--most of those will be invitations out of politeness, the people will not show up. Realistically, we expect about 25 people max. Question--I was discussing the shower with my mom. I had planned a menu of fall-ish things: chili, homemade veggie soup, pepperoni rolls, hot rolls, crackers, cheese tray, veggie tray, S'mores, pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, chips, cake, and drinks. Okay, so anyway, my Mom starts telling me that she doesn't think people want that at a baby shower. That people want chips and cake and to leave. Why does everyone make is such a big deal and so much work. Am I off base???? Is what I was planning a lot more than others do??? EVERY shower I've been to, has been like what i had in my mind. Is my mom stuck back in her day when it wasn't such a production? I don't know, but it hurt my feelings. Opinions?

Weight: According to my scale at home, I have gained about 6.5 lbs for the entire pregnancy so far.

Names: Our frontrunner for a name, right now, is Dawson Alexander.

Well, I am typed out for now. Hope all is well with everyone! Have wonderful weekend.

Avery has been with her Dad since last Friday, so I get her back tonight. I CAN'T wait. My weekend will be spent with my DD at my Mom's house. We are supposed to be having a campout--complete with tent, campfire, and S'mores. Stay away rain!

Congrats Usawife on your boy. I think I missed that some how.

A coworker just asked if I knew the sex of the baby. He's got a little girl and found out his wife was just throwing away the clothes the baby outgrew or she didn't like. No garage sale, no donation to goodwill. She just chucked an entire box of clothes into the garbage!

He called her and asked what was up. Apparently the clothes were given to her and since they aren't the right brand name she won't put them on her daughter.

Wow ~ I'm flabbergasted.

I told him I'd be more than happy to take them off his hands. What I don't use I'll pass on to my SIL or the lady on my bowling team, who I know is having a girl. What doesn't get used will definately be donated.

Congrats on your boy usafwife! And great news your mom is doing better!

I have a question. I mentioned in my last post that my DD was sick with the flu. And it got me wondering...in general, when you're pregnant, are you more susceptible to catching something, less, or does it really not make any difference?

I'm just thinking that the prenatals might help boost your defenses a little, but honestly, I have no idea. Just curious if anyone knows, I guess.

In theory you should be less susceptible just because if you do get sick you can't really take any meds that do any good.

Elenna

alegna: I'm flabbergasted after reading about her throwing out the clothes because the brand wasn't right, too. Geesh...some people.

ailments: I've had leg cramps that have woken me up the past two nights. I don't like it at all.

movement: DH felt the baby move two nights ago. He had his hand on my belly and felt the baby move at the same time I felt him move inside. It was really cool.

Congrats Meri! DH must be thrilled to be having a son!

Tera: The furniture sounds great!

Feeling movement: I can feel the baby from the inside and out! DH has felt him kicking. It gets stronger everyday. Even though this is the second time, it still freaks me out a bit. :o :o

Amanda:Good luck with the new OB. I really like the name Dawson. It's such a gentle name.

kicked in the crotch: LOL! Those are the perfect words to describe it! I felt it last week, but this week is better. I know it will return with the next growth spurt I have.

Angela: That is crazy about the woman throwing clothes away. I'm pretty picky about what I put on DS, but if i really didn't want something i'd give it away or donate it.

Quest: I'm not really sure about suceptability, but I think they reccomend the flu shot for pg women, so I'm guessing you may be more open to illness. I think I was healthier with my last pg for the most part, but...that may have just been me.

Elenna: Hooray for DH feeling the little one!

Amanda- I love Dawson! Alexander was one of our boy names as well. Good luck with the new OB and the shower. Around here, the non-work showers are usually at 2 with cake and fresh fruit, play a couple (stupid) games, open presents, and leave. Total about 2 hours, and most that I've been to have about 15 people. I wanted a co-ed Sunday night football cookout for my shower, but got outvoted. My aunt is having our family shower, and she wants to have a cutesy shower at a nice restaurant. I just decided that since she's throwing it, she gets to pick. Everyone else I know works with me in a school and no one wants to be at school late, so there we eat cake, open presents and go home. We have a strict no-games policy, which I love.

Movement--I feel it a lot now, and you have been able to feel it outside for about 3 weeks. DH thinks its great.

Kicked in the crotch-I get that too, esp. in the middle of the night or when I wake up. Sometimes going to the bathroom helps.

Treated like an invalid- At work, we are doing standardized testing and they won't let me lift the boxes of tests for each classroom. The box weighs at most 15 lbs. I'm pregnant, not sick! Stop treating me that way!

Kristen, that is exactly how it was for me when I was working and pg with Collin. It was even worse though. My principal would constantly make remarks about how he didn't want to deliver a baby and how I was too far away from my hospital (I worked an 90 minutes from my hospital). The comments were so bad, he had me a nervous wreck and I ended up leaving work a month early due to stress and anxiety!:( I understand some people are just trying to be helpful, but it gets to point that is just irritating.

Hello ladies! I am back from Vegas - we had a wonderful time, but it's sure nice to be home! :)

I just got through reading all posts in here for the past week. I won't be doing any individual SO's (way too much going on in here :) ), so - just a general SO: I am glad to know that everyone seems to be doing pretty well these days! And - congratulations on your BOY, Meri! :D

Movement: I've been feeling it more and more often lately. DH still can't feel anything :( , but I am hoping that it's not too long until he does!

Nursery: I am so jealous that all of you get to buy things and decorate the nurseries BEFORE your babies arrive... Looks like the only thing we'll have before the baby is here is the travel system (and only because we MUST have the car seat in order to leave the hospital...) And even that - my MIL already started giving us a hard time about that! - she seems to think that we should borrow (!!!) a carseat from someone to bring the baby home and then go out and buy our own later... I told DH - noway we're doing that and he agrees!

Tomorrow is our 1st wedding anniversary. We're having our parents, grandparents and my sister over for dinner - should be fun!

Just a quick post to say that DH felt the baby kick this morning. Yeah! It was a small kick and he felt it. I had just felt a big kick and woke him up to feel it.

You might want to check with your hospital. I know mine has a grant program, you donate $20 and they give you a brand new infant car seat. Of course you don't get to pick the pattern or brand. (I heard they're been giving out Snugrides) But it is a good deal for an extra seat.

That way you could techinically not have purchased anything before the baby arrives. But I know a lot of people want to have their seat installed and checked by a technician before going to the hospital. I think it's an allowable exception. ;)

Zhanna: Glad you had a good time in Vegas! I'm a little jealous of all you ladies getting to go on vacay! *Sigh*:p Enjoy your anniversary!

Tera: Hooray for DH feeling the baby! Wait until you can watch the limbs move across your belly...funky, but very cool!

Angela: What a cool program! We already have our seat from Collin and base for each car, but that is such a great deal!

I'm really having sleep issues these days. I fall to sleep fine, but once I wake up to pee, I'm up for the rest of the night.
We changed our minds on the nursery again! We're back to green. We bought the pain today, so 3 walls will be a really light green and then one wall will be a darker sage green. It should be nice.

Julie - I feel your pain on the sleep issues. I get up at least 3-4, sometimes more, times at night to go the bathroom. It's ridiculous. Then I can't get back to sleep easily. Mostly because this child of mine keeps kicking me. Last night he/she woke me up at 2:30 and I couldn't fall back asleep until close to 3:30. Every position I layed in, I'd get a "here I am" kick. I even propped myself up on pillows on my back and he/she would still move around in there. It was ridiculous! Not sure there is anything else to do but suck it up. Good luck with that!!

UGH - I'm with you gals on the sleep issues! I am up at least 3-4 times every night and then sometimes have problems getting back to sleep afterwards. Last night some stupid morons decided to have some streetraces by our house around 2am. They were sooo loud! They must have gone by at least 4-5 times. If I had a gun, I would have taken them out myself...:p I have zero tolerance for that kind of crap.

Same sleep problems here. Saturday night I went to bed around midnight. Dog had to go out at 1:30am, again at 3:30am and then at 4:15 she decided she didn't want to be in the bedroom anymore. So I went and laid on the couch. She just jumped right up and went to sleep. Damn dog!

Then I had to work Sunday 7am-3pm. DH and I took a nap when I got home. Does it still count as a nap when it lasts 3 hours? ;)

Went to bed at midnight again last night and then took the dog out at 4:30am and was wide awake. It was wierd though, it was almost like my body thought I had slept the entire night.

I think I should be exempt from this since I have a 15 month old and haven't had a great night's sleep in about 17 months! LOL!:D Besides this lack of sleep can not even compare to the sheer exhaustion that is life with a newborn. ;)

Ok, you've got a point there.... :p

Well, I finally made it to Target to scan the things for my registry that I couldn't add online. It's all messed up. Things I scanned are showing up as different items on the printout. Things on the printout are not showing up online. Oh well. I guess it's a small number of items total so I can just exchange what I get for the stuff I really wanted.

Now I just need to make it over to Toys R Us and do the same.

I need to get working on the the room. I peeled all the glow in the dark tape down. Now I need to patch the walls and ceiling where the tape messed it up. Wash down the walls and woodwork and then convince someone to paint it for me. I want to try and get it done before it gets too cold to open the window and air out the room. Nobody likes being cooped up with paint fumes. I tell myself every afternoon, "I'm going to work on the room when I get home" and then I get home, sit down and it's over. The moment has passed. I'm reading a magazine, watching tv, doing laundry, napping. Anything but working on the room.

I'm such a slacker.

I feel so lucky that I'm only waking up to go to the bathroom once a night at this point. However, my toddler usually ends up coming into our room almost every night looking for me, so that wakes me up too and sometimes I do have a hard time falling back asleep. If this pregnancy is anything like my first one, I'll be right there with those of you waking up 2-4 times a night in just a few months ;)

I decided to try to wean myself off the Zofran because I just can't take some of the side effects anymore (namely, the constipation). This is Day 3 without Zofran, and it's been the worst morning so far :( I lost my breakfast in my office trash can (sorry - TMI) and I'm sitting here feeling nastily nauseous and waiting for a 2nd wave to hit. I am ready to drive home just so I can pop a Zofran and get some relief (I'm not sure why I came to work without bringing a pill with me just in case) :( Only 17 more weeks...only 17 more weeks...only 17 more weeks....

This is what I'm MOST scared of. I do not do well on a lack of sleep! Luckily the sleeping thing hasn't been too bad for me so far ... I get up to pee twice, usually, but I can pretty much fall right back to sleep. Very interesting since I was a horible sleeper pre-pregnancy.

I'm with Ginger - I too need my sleep. I can get quite cranky without sleep (or food for that matter too). I warn DH weekly about what is to come. He says he's prepared. I just keep saying, "Just don't say I didn't warn you!"

I got my critter chair (lamb) from PBK today. It is so cute!!! I can't wait to take it home and put it in the (empty) nursery. I do look funny having this 2 foot lamb chair in my office ...

Welcome Lindsay! Congrats on joining the pink team!!

UGH - had a horrid night trying to sleep last night. My back was and is still really hurting. It's weird because it's not my lower back it pretty much right int hemiddle and only my right side. Anyway, I woke up poor DH a few times while I was trying to get comfortable so he rubbed my back for a minute or so but ti didn't help very much. I just felt back because he had to leave for work at 5:30 this morning so I know he really needed his sleep. :(

I also am still having the very weird dreams. Last night I had dreams with Bon Jovi. What's weird is that Jon (who is my secret celebrity husband) isn't too prominent...it was all Ritchie Sambora... . He bought me a pink telephone in the shape of a convertible VW Bug with a blonde barbie riding in the driver seat. Ya know, if he was a REAL gentleman, he would have bought me a REAL car instead of a stupid phone! LOL :p

GardenGirl
09-27-2006, 08:53 AM
That is too funny of a dream Ginger. I've had some weird ones, but can't say any with pink VW phones. My dreams are basically dreams of things that can happen in real life. So when I wake up in the morning, I think "did that happen." It's just stupid stuff.

Kristin - I definitely have preggo brain. I try not to say that at work when I forget things people have told me, but I'm distracted - what can I say!

Welcome Lindsay - your addition is making it quite a close call with the boy/girl tally. I'm interested in seeing what the stats will be after all of us "Surprise Babies" start joining in on either the blue or pink team.

I have a BRU question - when the website says that something is temporarily unavailable, does that mean it's discontinued, backordered or what. I'll call them today but wanted to save myself from being on hold forever if I could help it. It seems my Peg Perego stroller (the P3) and the car seat are "temporarily unavailable." Thanks!

I don't know for certain, but I think it just means it's unavailable online, more like backordered than discontinued.

I think we registered for the same stroller and car seat because mine is "termporarily unavailable" as well. It's so irritating. Of course, I did notice the pink one is still available on line...I would love to change it, but if somsone bought the pink one and DH found out I changed the color onthe registry, he would be NOT be happy with me! BRU dosn't carry the bedding we chose so I did a registry at Baby Depot. My shower will most likely be up in Sacramento and, while they don't have a BD up there, the bedding can be ordered online. Welcome Lindsay and congrats on your girl! :)

I'm with jmvan74 -- I never could have imagined how to function on such little sleep until I became a mom :) You ladies will all be just fine and will be great mommies! If it makes you heavy sleepers feel any better - I was really worried about the sleep deprivation thing too. And in all honesty? It wasn't that bad. For me, the first few weeks were the hardest because I didn't really know what I was doing, plus I was trying to figure out the whole breastfeeding thing (we had some issues in the beginning). After the first couple weeks, it wasn't so bad at all. Sure, I had to wake up a few times in the middle of the night to feed my DD, but it's not like I was up ALL night long. Hopefully we will all be blessed with happy, healthy babies who understand that nighttime = sleep time and they'll only wake up to eat and be changed, and then happily go back to sleep. :) My DD was such a "good" baby in the beginning that I probably just cursed myself and now I fear that #2 will be the opposite and I WILL be up all night with him/her :D

GardenGirl - I do the same thing with my dreams. Some of them seem so realistic that sometimes it takes me a while after I wake up to figure out if what I dreamed about really happened or if it was just a dream. I had one dream where DH's company shut down and he lost his job. The next morning, he was up at his usual time getting ready for work and I was like, "What are you doing?" I was wondering why he was showering and getting ready at 6am when he was unemployed. That is when I figured out that he really hadn't lost his job and it was all a dream!

Congrats on your girl, Lindzgirl!

I made a cool discovery over the weekend. I was shopping at an outlet-type store near us (new stuff but very cheap, as in Motherhood Maternity T's for $2) to try to find some more fall/winter maternity clothes. I spotted a non-maternity ralph lauren thermal top, VERY cute and just my style. And it was only $3. So I bought it thinking I'd eventually be able to wear it. And it was $3! Well, I tried it on when I got home and it fit! And looked pretty decent! So I realized that even though I am quite the pregnant gal, my non-maternity shirts (with some stretch, of course) can still work! Which makes me very happy because it means I can have some variety without spending a bunch more $$ that I'd rather spend on baby stuff :)

Add me to the club with hip aches, insomnia, and now - pg awkwardness. I was sitting on the couch, bent over to pick something up off the floor and jumped back because something (an organ, rib, etc.) bumped into something else (organ, rib, etc.) since things are starting to get tight in there! It's like it happened overnight!

GardenGirl
09-27-2006, 04:14 PM
I'm with you Quest - I can't figure out where anything in my body is anymore. I reach for a pain/itch and I think to myself, what is that. I have no clue what is going on in there. I do have this one pain every now and then that I will ask my OB about. It is just to the left side of center and about 3 inches above my bellybutton. I think the baby must be infringing on an organ or rib or something because dang it hurts. I really just want to know what it is. It happens about every other day, generally in the afternoon. Very weird.

Ginger that sucks about your bedding issue. We are purchasing the bedding ourselves anyway, since we went custom. I would have loved some help on it though. But that will just leave more big items on my registry for people to get us!

WB - I can't believe you dreamed about DH losing his job. I haven't had one that extreme. Mostly mine is that I've already done the laundry, or washed the car or even put on my makeup for the day. It's just stupid stuff that I have to stop for a second and think "Didn't I do that already." It's crazy!

09-27-2006, 04:26 PM
WB: Are you feeling better? Are you taking the Zofran again? You are so lucky to have had a good baby. Collin was colicky and he ate every 2 hours day and night. Whewee...it was exhausting. I'm hoping to catch a break this time! LOL!:D

Ginger: Sorry about the bedding. Is there anyone from your area that might buy it for you?

Where are my organs? I'm there, too. I never know where an ache or pain is coming from and bending over is becoming a chore.

Here's my most recent belly pic. (DH took it tonight)

Ok, enough sadness. A happy note. Briley (my almost 4yo DD!!) felt the baby move on Monday. She was so excited to feel the little kick. Now, every time I'm on the floor or she's by me on the couch or whatever, she wants to know if she can feel the baby and if she can't is the baby sleeping? We had our monthly doctor's appointment today - everything looks good, we heard the heartbeat and the doctor measured my belly. The whole appointment was literally 4 minutes long... :p

I also made an appointment for the glucose test next week. They told me to fast for 8 hours before the test (it's at 8 am on Friday morning), including not drinking any water! Has anyone had to do that for their glucose test? I know you can't eat anything, but I've never heard of not drinking WATER either...

zhanna, that is strange. I was not told last time nor this time to fast at all. In fact, I was told to eat normally. I think there is a special diet if you fail the 1 hour and have to do the 3 hour, but for the 1 hour it's just supposed to be on a normal day diet-wise. Well, my MW told me to avoid too many carbs that day, but my appt. is early in the a.m. so I'll just have eggs for breakfast instead of cereal.

I did some research online since my last post, and it seems that it depends on the actual test the doctor chooses to use in his/her office (there are several kinds apparently). I guess I'm the lucky one whose doctor chose to use the "fasting test"!

GardenGirl

I wish DH would get home. I'm starving. I've eaten an apple and some cheese to hold me over, but I'm really really hungry. He was going to be home at 7, but is running late. We are going out for pizza and watch the Astros (hopefully) win another game of baseball tonight. Right now they are losing, but we are a comeback team!

We are going to clean out the garage tomorrow and move some things from one guest closet out there so we can move stuff from the nursery closet into the guest closet. Little baby steps we are taking. I don't want DH to feel to overwhelmed with preperations.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Dh still hasn't felt any movement. He's always in the other room when I get the big ones. Oh well. Soon enough I'm sure.

I had to retire my rings over the weekend. With all the weight I've lost and the recent cool spell we've had here in IL, my rings were falling off of my fingers. They were so loose I didn't feel comfortable wearing them anymore.

I had plans to work on the babies room this weekend. But Saturday DH and I napped all day. It was chilly and instead of turning on the furnace we just stayed under the covers. And then Sunday we had to run a bunch of errands and met my friend and her parents for dinner. I was exhausted by the time we got home. I barely got some laundry done for today.

My sister sent out my shower invites this weekend. Now I get the excitement of watching stuff off my registries get bought. I'm a peaker. I can't help it.

I'm going to do my very best not to look at my registry. But I will fail. I did at our wedding and I will for the baby shower. I have no self control, what can I say. I want to be surprised though, so maybe I'll try and not look. However, I know I'll get plenty of things not on my registry that will surprise me. Our invitations to the Nov 4th shower should go out this week, that's what my friend said. My office shower invites are going out next week. I realized today that I only have 97 days until my EDD. That totally shocks me. I can't believe I'm going to have a baby!!!

I can't believe I'm going to have a baby!!!

I had this same exact thought this morning, and I am a RO!! :D

Last week I had 4 people at work come up to me and ask, "Are you pregnant?!" When I confirmed that I am, 3 of those 4 people said (to one effect or another), "Wow, you're HUGE!" One person said, "You're not due until January?! OMG, you are SO big right now!" Granted, these were people I don't see on a daily basis (or even talk to regularly - since they obviously didn't even know I was pg) so I'm sure my belly looked "big" compared to how I normally look. Still, it amuses me to no end that some people think I am so tiny, while others act like I'm the most enormous thing they've ever seen. I know it does depend on what I'm wearing too - certain maternity shirts make me look bigger than I really am. But still. I feel like keeping track of the "you're HUGE" and "you're TINY" comments, just for the hell of it ;) I'll need to post a belly shot so you ladies can determine for yourselves whether I'm huge or tiny :D

PS. About registry peeking -- I totally did it too when I was pg with my DD! Even if you know what has been purchased off your registry, you still won't know WHO is going to give it to you, so there's still going to be some element of surprise. Or at least that's what I tried to tell myself so I wouldn't feel so guilty for looking.

Glucose Test - The instructions on the bottle say to eat my regular breakfast or lunch...I'm probably getting it done around 10 a.m., which means drinking it at 9 a.m., which means I'm lucky if I get a cup of coffee in me before then! I was nervous about this test last time, and I'm nervous again. I "passed" with flying colors before, I hope that happens Thursday!

Registry Peeking - This is my 2nd DC, so no registry for me. I actually didn't register with DD, either (or for my wedding shower), guess I'm just not a registry gal. (And can you believe, only 1 (1!) duplicate at each shower? Very cool.) I will say, though, that if I did choose to have one, I'm sure I'd peek!

I had to retire my rings over the weekend.

Me too, but because they are too tight! They still fit, but it's just uncomfy.

As an RO, I looked big almost right from the start, too. But I'm finding that as time goes on, even though I'm still gaining, I'm 'catching up' to my size. I mean, when I was 4 months, I looked big for 4 months, but now at close to 6 months, it seems more believable.

Oh, and I officially 'grunt and groan' when getting up off the floor, bending over, etc. I don't even mean to do it, it just happens. What the heck will I sound like in a couple of months!?

Looks like I am getting a different Glucose Test then everyone else in here - I didn't get a bottle or anything - I just have to come in on Friday morning, they will draw blood, then they will give me something to drink, then I have to sit in their waiting room for an hour and get blood drawn again. Did anyone have to do this before? I'm confused...

You have the same test. Just the ones who have a bottle to drink, drink it at home and go in an hour afterwards to get the blood drawn. Your dr makes you sit at the office. Same test, just administered differently ;)

UGH - is it time for glucose testing?? I already went through a one hour and failed and then had to do the three hour and passed. I had to do them early because of the familyhistory of diabetes. I have a doctor appointment next week and I know she is going to make me take the test again. YUCK!!

I decided on paint colors over the weekend. I found out that a new friend of mine has a degree in interior design! She came over yesterday and helped me decide on colors. The bottom of the walls will be "wild porcini" which is a medium beige and the top color will be "pink ribbon". I am going to seperate the colors with a chair rail that will probably be painted "elegant ivory". Now I have to get the room cleaned out and primed so the painting will begin. That is the real challenge.

Zhanna: I had to sit at the lab to take my glucose test with DS#1. I'm at a different OB now, so I don't know how it will work this time.

WB: I don't think people think before they speak. A simple "Congrats" would be fine. LOL!

Quest: I feel like I'm "catching up", too. I was afraid I was going to be way bigger than last time, but I think you just show sooner and then even off.

Ginger: The color ideas sounds really pretty. Can't wait to see pics!

Well, DH finally managed to feel a kick last night. I was sitting on the couch watching tv and I swear the kiddo kicked so hard I saw my shirt move! I had Dh come over and he was able to feel one too. The look on his face was great. I wish I would have had the video camera on. :D But then I started laughing at his reaction and then we couldn't really feel any more.

My doctor hasn't said anything about the glucose test yet. I'm assuming it will be scheduled at my next appointment on Friday. I still need to schedule my repeat ultrasound too. My doctor said she was going to send me to the hospital for that. Something about them having a better machine. Hopefully this time we'll be able to see more of kiddo than just his/her back.

Well, I'm officially annoyed.

My best friend can't come to my shower. She's a nurse and apparently they have to request vacation a year in advance. She can't find anybody to switch with her. The shower was originally supposed to be Nov. 11th, a day she didn't have to work. But with that being Veterans day we couldn't get the hall we wanted so we moved the shower to the next weekend. And now she can't come.

It's partially my fault. My sister was trying to plan things and get the hall rented but my two friends were blowing her off. They wouldn't answer emails and weren't getting back to her with alternative places to have the shower on the 11th. So I made an executive decision and booked the hall for the 18th. Of course, then after I've paid the non refundable money the friends suddenly want to be involved and start with the suggestions.

My sister even put their names on the invites as co-hosts even though she's done all the work.

I'm bummed that my sister is getting the short end of the stick in the planning. I'm bummed that my friends suck. I'm bummed that S can't come. This is probably going to be my one and only baby shower EVER. And I'm annoyed that her hospital expects people to plan vacations a year in advance. How stupid is that? And how rude of her coworkers to not switch with her. She started asking 3 months ago. It's not like it was a last minute idea.

Heck if I was her I would just call in. But, I'm not her. Not much I can do about it now. Oh well.

So from what I have read, those of you having baby showers are having them in November or so. I had planned on waiting til January since I am not due til the end of the month. Do you think I am cutting it too close? Should I push my friend for a November shower?? I know there's no whay to know when Katie will actually make her appearance, but I would hate to have a shower planned and then have her early...

I was supposed to go to a job interview today. It was for a good job - over 50K a year. However, I have always wanted to be a SAHM and I need to remember that Katie is my priority and while it will be a little tough financially at first, I know it will be worth it in the end, right?? We will be giving up vacations, eating at restaurants, etc. UGH - it's so hard to stick with my decision.

We decided on a November shower for a few different reasons.
#1 ~ December would be hard to plan because of the holidays. People have family obligations and it might be difficult to rent a place to have the shower.
#2 ~ My mom had both me and my sister a month early. I wasn't taking any chances that it runs in the family and I'd miss my own party.
#3 ~ The weather would more than likely be better in November. Nothing worse than planning a party and having an ice storm make things dangerous for guests.

With my DD, my shower my IL's threw was about 2.5 weeks before my due date. My DD was a week old by then ;) She was born 3.5 weeks early. Each person is different, but I know from experience, for me, the last month was very tiring. I would have been in no mood to be sitting at a shower when I could have been at home resting :) My shower for my mom's family was about 2 months before my EDD with my DD and that worked out great.

Angela - sorry you are so bummed about your friend. I would be too. And I can't even think of a solution for you - all I can say is sorry!

Showers - yeah, I wanted mine in November because I'm due so early in January. If you didn't want to wait until January, Ginger, you could do it the first or second weekend in December. If you do November, you'll want to do it before the 18th since the next week is Thanksgiving. I know you might feel uncomfortable about having it too early though. That's a tough call.

Speaking of showers, I just got an email from a friend and she said she received the shower invitation in the mail last night. Which means I should get mine tomorrow - I'm so excited! This means I might have a legitimate reason to check my registry. I must confess that even though no one knows I'm even registered, I still check out my registry almost every day. I'm such a dork!!!

Shower: MY shower for DS was 2 months before he was due. I had to travel there and wouldn't have wanted to sit in car for 5 hours any later than that. I agree with Tonya about not wanting to be sitting in a shower just before you're due. That last month is really uncomfortable.

Angela: Sorry about your friend. Unfortunately, there is rarely a time that works for everyone. I'm sure she is feeling just as bad about it as you are.:(

Alegna, I'm sorry your friend won't be able to attend your shower, I'm sure she would come if she could find a way. Sorry also about the drama with your sister getting stuck doing all the work. Those situations are always sticky. I've certainly been in that situation more times than I'd like to remember.

Can't remember exactly but I had 4 baby showers ( ) with my family, DH's family, a small one with just my close girlfriends from college, and then another one with family friends. IIRC, most were scheduled 1.5 to 2 months before my EDD. I think my final shower was 4 weeks before my EDD, and that was as late as I was willing to cut it. (My close friends threw that final shower at my house though, so I didn't need to drive anywhere nor worry about hauling gifts home afterward :))

I agree that the last month can be uncomfortable for some people. I personally really wasn't that uncomfortable since my DD never dropped or got fully engaged (and therefore I never once had the heavy "OMG this baby feels like it's going to fall out any minute" pressure down there like a lot of people do in the final weeks of pregnancy) but my situation was also unique and not exactly "normal" (and hence, why I needed a csection) ;)

But I do remember being tired in the last month or two - for me, it was like the fatigue from the 1st trimester decided to make a come-back. And like jmvan said, it was uncomfortable riding in a car for long periods of time. OH, and I can't forget about the nesting instincts - they were pretty strong toward the end and I felt a VERY strong need to make sure my house was in perfect condition before my baby arrived! There were days when I would actually have chosen to stay home and mop my floors than attend a shower in my honor! :)

Angela - I'm sorry to hear about your friend not being able to make it to the shower... I know how it feels - one of my really good friends couldn't make it to my bridal shower or my wedding, which really-really sucked... :(

I have been feeling kind of left out here :p since I am not going to have a shower at all. We have a registry, but noone knows about it, so - no reason to even peak. :( The only thought that comforts me somewhat is that on the 8th day after the birth of our baby, we're going to have a circumcision ceremony and a reception to follow. I guess that will be kind of fun... (considering that I'll have a 8-day old infant on my hands and probably won't feel much up to partying...)

OK, I'm off to update this thread now! :D

Sorry I've been MIA, as usual. Just don't get online as often as I used to, I guess. I'm not even going to try to catch up, so HELLO everyone! :)

We had our u/s yesterday. Everything looks great! Peanut is healthy, measuring right on for gestational age (50th percentile, which is not something we're used to - heck, 25th percentile is awesome for DD!). Peanut was 1 lb 4 oz, estimated, heart was beating 145 bpm, plenty of fluid, 3 vessel cord, etc etc....all wonderful news. My placenta is posterior and high up, so no issues with that for a VBAC OR a repeat C. Nice to know! And the placenta's normal sized, too. Hooray! This pregnancy is light-years different from the one I had with DD, that's for sure.

We got a surprise, too; they had 4D technology. We had no idea. I started to cry once I got over the shock of seeing our little Peanut's face in 4D. So amazing. So wonderful.

4D u/s - we have an appt this Thursday and I'm going to inquire about a 4D ultrasound. I'm a little conflicted though. I think that if we were to get one, I would want them to peek between the legs and tell me the gender. I've really sold myself on being surprised, but if we were tempted I don't know if I could resist it. But having a glimpse would be SO amazing.

Zhanna - I kinda know how you feel (sort of) about feeling left out. I was really feeling left out a few weeks ago when everyone was announcing "boy" or "girl." I was bummed, but looked forward to the big surprise at the end. So maybe that will work for you too, just on a different level.

Showers Mine is in November the Saturday after Thanksgiving so the entire family can be together for the holiday at my moms, then have the shower. It seems to be working out well except that 20 people will be at Turkey Day dinner. Some really close family friends had to get un-invited because that brought us to 27. Family keeps calling and saying that they are coming. There are going to be lots of sleeping bags!

Jen How totally cool!

Angela That sux about your friend. My good friend and her mom may not be able to make it if her extended family decides to celebrate Thanksgiving the weekend after instead of the weekend before. They flip between the two weekends each year. I really hope she can come because it would feel weird without her there.

Yes, I have dealt with this quite often the last few weeks. My belly is simply getting too big for these low-rise pants with the 3" elastic band to stay up. The only solution that works for me is to switch to the full-panel pants. I know the full-panels are not exactly attractive, but with my ever-growing belly, they are SO much more comfortable and I like knowing that my pants will stay put! And most of my maternity shirts cover the panel part anyway, so nobody will know that I'm wearing huge panel pants. I hate that "my pants are slipping" feeling! A few times in public I felt a cold draft on my belly and realized that my pants had slipped so low that part of my belly was exposed. :o  Farewell, low-rise pants...

quest posted this a while back and I meant to respond to it: Oh, and I officially 'grunt and groan' when getting up off the floor, bending over, etc. I don't even mean to do it, it just happens. What the heck will I sound like in a couple of months!? That is totally me! :D Getting out of bed in the morning is becoming a major production. Flip over to right side (which involves hauling the belly), remove all the pillows, swing leg around in feeble attempt to put foot on floor....oh yeah, I simply can't do it without grunting and groaning! :)

YES! I bought pants based on my prepregnancy size. And I expected to gain weight! Since all I've managed to do is lose so far the pants are huge on me. I was going to order the next size down but then read in one of my books that my belly should be growing a lot starting now so I'm hoping I can get by. Otherwise I'm going to invest in some suspenders. ;)

Well, I just tried to call the hospital and get signed up for the Nov/Dec birthing classes. Apparently the only way to sign up is with some paperwork from the doctors office. Funny, the doctor didn't mention that last time I asked about the classes. Guess I'll have to add that to list of things to ask about on Friday.

This is so me! I bought my pants a lit bit loose in the thighs/butt/waist because I thought I would need room to grow and now everything falls down or looks frumpy. I have finally had enough and I went to Mimi last night and did a lot of shopping - pants with a fabric band are now officially banned from my wardrobe! I love the pants that have a real zipper/button and only elastic in the back, they are the only ways that stay up and look good. I also bought a lot of cute shirts in a tighter, sexier style to show off my small-ish bump. I feel so much better it's amazing. :) I hated to buy more clothes with only 3 1/2 months to go, but the price was well worth it IMO.

Had my monthly OB appointment today - everything continues to look good. I've gained 2 pounds since last month, blood pressure is good. I'm measuring 24cm which is right on schedule.

Nugget didn't seem to like the doppler on my belly because he/she started kicking up a storm as soon as the doctor put the doppler on my belly to find the heartbeat :) It was cute to hear all the kicks and thumps on the doppler, while still feeling them inside. Nugget's heartbeat was 148bpm (when the kid finally settled down and stopped kicking!)

I got the paperwork for my glucose test. I can go to the lab for the test anytime as long as I get the test done by Novmeber 3. I have to sit at the lab for the full hour after I drink the glucola, but it's a non-fasting test so at least I don't need to fast beforehand.

I signed the consent form for an elective repeat c-section today, and my OBGYN said that next month we'll start talking about dates, times, and basically getting things scheduled!

My next appointment is November 2, and then I start going in every 2 weeks. Yikes, I can't believe we're almost at the point for more frequent visits!

So, I ended up having an emergency doctor visit and ultrasound today. I've been feeling the baby move consistently for about 2 weeks now and then all of a sudden - I didn't feel anything for the past 2 days. I tried not to freak out right away - I did everything I was supposed to do last night (drank lots of sweet juice and cold water, laid on my left side and relaxed, trying to feel the movement - NOTHING!) I decided to wait until this morning and if nothing changed call the doctors office, which I did at 9 am today. The OB nurse asked me a few questions and then told me to come in for a fetal heartbeat check.

Thankfully - everything is fine with the baby - the heartbeat is 148 bpm and we got to see him on the u/s (they just wanted to make sure that the baby is actively moving) - he is and as a matter of fact - he's extremely active in there - we saw him punch and kick and do flips :), however - I still can't feel anything! The doctor said that it's most probably due to my anterior placenta, but I did a right thing by coming in to check it out. I can't even tell you how much better I feel right now! :D

The baby weighs around 2 lbs and measures a few days ahead of schedule (I'm 26w1d, he measures at 27w2d), but the doctor didn't change my due date or anything - she said that just a few days don't make much of a difference.

Here for a quick visit. hahaha.

Hello to everyone! We seem to all be doing well and right on track, so, that's a blessing. I, too, was very saddened to hear about Jenahdawn's loss in Feb mommies. How heartbreaking.

Zhanna--Glad everything is alright. I had something similar with DD when I was about 6 months, and everything was okay. But, man, that little scare was not so little while it was happening. Happy that all is well with your little man.

I don't remember any other particular SO's, so here goes with some general.

Pants--I cannot stand the low-waisted pants. I am a full panel girl all the way. I also like the underwear that come up to my breasts. ;) I, recently, ordered some stuff from Target online, cause no stores around where I live carry maternity--I guess we're just not supposed to dress? I was so frustrated. Anyway, my clothes came via UPS yesterday, so I look forward to wearing those and not looking so stupid in my overly large regular clothes.

Shower--My shower is November 4th (I saw at least one date buddy here). We just reserved the building yesterday. I am working on my registry today, and invites will go out next week. Not sure about menu yet. Or decorations. I would like to go with a fallish theme, and not all the babyish, blue stuff. But, alas, I will let others take care of it and just sit back and enjoy it all.

Movement--I can now feel and see movement from the outside. I have tried several times to let DD and FH feel it too, but baby boy seems to be still whenever their hands are on my tummy. Making me out to be a liar already. hahahaha.

Glucose--My glucose test with DD was just like yours Zhanna. All depends on the office, I guess. This time, no mention has been made of it yet, so not sure what I'm in for. Good luck, ladies, with all of your upcoming tests.

Registry--Just started working on mine. Gonna do all I can online, then hit the local Target to fill in the gaps and stuff. I am not a peeker. Actually, the thought of peeking never crossed my mind, with neither DD, nor this time. I am a register and forget about it type of person.

Update--Nothing much new here. Aches, pains, groans, sighs all continue. This pregnancy is so much more painful and awkward than my first one. Maybe because I am so overweight and out of shape this time??? Anyway, started with my new OB provider on 9/28. I was pleased with it, and look forward to my next appt on October 26th. In the meantime, I finally called and got my results from bloodwork and Down's screening from my old provider. All was normal! Great news! My pap also came back normal (I have a history of pre-cancerous cells on the cervix), so that was also good news. Also, at that appt I had blood in my urine, so they did a urine culture, and that came back normal--so, the blood must have been some kidney stone action. At any rate, I was happy to hear all normal results. My new provider is concerned about my uterine measurement. My old provider noted that my uterus was measuring large, also. Right now I am measuring 2-3 weeks further ahead according to my uterus. Don't know what this could be a sign of, or if I should be worried--anyone know? My plan right now is to see the CNM on the 26th and go from there.

Names--We have stalled on the names considerations. For those of you who remember, we were considering Dawson Alexander. However, what I didn't mention is that the baby's last name will be Dawson. So, our frontrunner of Dawson Alexander came with a hitch, and we were considering the hitch--and I guess, at least, I have come to the conclusion that I don't want a kid named Dawson Dawson, no matter how in love I am with the first name Dawson. Anyway, it's back to the drawing board.

Question--Maybe TMI, but whatever. Is it possible for milk/secretions/whatever to be coming out of our nipples already? For the past two weeks, I have had clear and milkyish, yellow secretions coming out of my nipples. Sometimes, it will dry and sort of crust. Should I be concerned, or is this normal?

I had this with both pg's and this one just started within the last couple days. My doc says it's perfectly normal. So, I went out and bought some breast pads yesterday. I remember, especially with DD, I had to start wearing them, because I'd leak through my shirts!! :o

Zhanna-Oh my!! I'm sorry you had such a scare, but I'm glad everything is well with your little one. Your's and WB's baby's heartbeats were the same! HA!

I had my appt today. Everything looks good, but my BP went up. I've been sick (whole family has actually) for the last week and I'm not sleeping as well because of it, so I'm sure that all has something to do with it. But, she wants me to come back in 2 weeks just to be sure. So, my next appt is Oct 17.

Tonya--Thanks! That sets my mind at ease. I had some leakage with DD, but it didn't start till about 8.5 months, so I was surprised for this to start so early this time. Aaaaah, but I feel better about it now. Thanks, again!:)
Glad things were good with your appt, and hope that the BP goes back down.

Yikes Zhanna! What a scare! Glad everything is OK though.

amwilson - yep, happening here too. I'm not seeing the fluid itself, but I *am* seeing....stuff....that isn't usually there. Don't remember that happening with DD...

No baby shower for me! :) Which does kind of suck, because there are things we could use for this baby. Oh well! That's what Christmas is for this year...

WB, isn't it crazy how fast we're up to every 2 week appts??? This pregnancy is absolutely flying by for me!!

That's really it from here. :)

Just got back from my dr visit. All went well. The doc was running at least an hour behind, so they sent me downstairs for my glucose test. It wasn't a fasting one. While the drink was sweet, it wasn't too bad. They keep in refridgerated, so that really did help. I should get the results within the week. We also preregistered at the hospital. There were quite a few forms to complete, some I had to do twice. Apparently they need one for my file and one for the baby's. I felt silly asking at first and then I saw 2 other couples ask that after me, so my silliness went away. We scheduled an appt on Oct 26 (that will be in 3 weeks and I'll be just shy of 30 weeks). After that we'll be on two week appointments. I too agree that this pregnancy is flying by. I can't beleive I'll be in the third trimester on Sunday. Holy cow!!

My showers are on Nov 4th and Nov 15th and I just can't wait.

Zhanna - I'm glad all is well and you have piece of mind. The nurse couldn't find the heartbeat this morning, but I knew it was beating as I could feel the baby moving. She finally found it. I really think this baby is facing my spine/back or something because all my movement is felt inside. I am feeling it quite a bit, thankfully. I don't know what I'd do if I stopped feeling it.

I'll let you all know about the GTT results when I get them. I did eat an egg and sausage for breakfast and I ate a regular meal last night, so I didn't do anything special. I hope it doesn't throw the test off, so I'll keep you posted.

Hi Mommas!

Just checking in, it's been a while for me. I read back to the last 3 pages to try and catch up a little. zhanna - sorry about the scare, but I'm glad you were able to go in and see your little guy's heartbeat and know everything is ok!

Catching up with some QOTD stuff:

Shower-- Not doing one this time around since it's baby #2 and we don't really need anything. Besides that, we just moved to AZ a couple months ago and don't really know anyone, so it's not like a friend is going to "surprise" me with a shower or anything since no one lives near us :) But that's ok, we don't need a shower and I would feel silly having one, knowing we don't need anything...

Movement-- Baby G is moving around all the time. I love that I'm finally at that stage when I can be sitting on the couch watching my belly and actually *see* her move.

Glucose-- My dr. hasn't mentioned this yet, but I go in next week for my next appt. so maybe she'll mention it then?

Registry-- Didn't register since it's baby #2 and we don't really need anything.

Update--Nothing much new here either. Time just seems to be going by SO slowly. I'm hoping these next 3 months will go by quickly with all the holidays coming up.

Names-- We do have our little girl's name all picked out, but I'm waiting to do the official announcement until after she is born. It is yet another "G" name :)

I do have 2 fun announcements, sort of baby-related... I have 2 of my designs in the October issue of Pregnancy magazine right now! And next month, one of my holiday designs will be featured in Family Circle! Very exciting stuff for my biz :)

I'm finally taking Fridays off and I joined a mommy group through meetup.com when we moved to AZ, so every Friday morning, I'm going to a mommy fitness walk with Gabby. So I'm finally making some mommy friends out here!

Here is my 27-wk. belly shot, taken yesterday morning:

Just 98 days 'til my due date... fun to finally be in the double digits.

Zhanna: Sorry about the scare. I'm glad your OB is so accomodating. It's important to feel like they're really there for you. Besides, you got to take another peek at the little one. ;)

Leaking: Yeah, count me in. I don't notice it too much during the day, but in the evening when I take my bra off, I end up getting little wet spots on my t-shirt. Uggg. I hate wearing a bra to bed, but know I won't have much of an option soon.

Appointments: Looks like lots you had appts. this week. Hooray for uneventfulness!! LOL! I go Monday and hope it will be the same.

Movement: This kid is a mover and shaker! I keep getting wollaped in the cervix. No fun. Last night I was just sitting here with my shirt up watching my belly shake.

Amanda: Yeah, I think Dawson Dawson is a bit much. :p Such a great name, though. Good luck coming up with something new.

Amber: You look beautiful! Magazine preggo. LOL! Congrats on having your work displayed in the mags. How wonderful. You do baby announcemnts, right? What is your site. again? I know CC is allowing sales right now, but I'd really like to take a look.

I just haven't felt like posting the past few days. I'm really tired and DS hasn't been sleeping well. I've been reading along and will do my best to keep up. :)

Doc visit today--up 2.75 lbs for a total of 12, BP 110/70. I didn't think to ask how many centimeters. Heartbeat was good. So, I am happy. Got the glucola though--ick. I need it for my next appointment on 11/1.

Movement--feeling it a lot these days and all over the place. Until this week, it was all in one spot, but now its everywhere

Zhanna--I'm glad everything is ok!

Leaking--At the end of the day, there is a tiny bit in my bra, but not enough to be bothersome yet.

I'm hoping it's ok to reply to your question, even though it is work related?

I plan to take 2-3 weeks off, so if anyone in our January thread can wait those 2-3 weeks to place your order, I will be offering 30% off for our group. If you would like the code for January 07 mommies, please PM me.

Personally, I will likely not even send out my own announcements until closer to 1 1/2 - 2 months because it's my preference, but I know others like to get them out right away.

Hi everybody! I haven't been on for a while but I wanted to poke in to say hello. Everything is going fine with the baby and me-- getting bigger every day! I got the results of my 20 w U/s and it seems the placenta is in the front so that explains why I never feel him kick in front. So weird!

I'm going to go back and read up on everyone now...

Just got back from my appointment. I've gained .2 pounds. BP was good. I heard the nurse say I had trace amounts of protien in my urine, but the doctor didn't mention it. Heartrate was in the mid 130s. I'm measuring at 27 weeks. But they're not worried. I think it's because I have a different nurse every time. And all of them seem to start at a different spot down low. Got my orange drink for my next appointment 10/27. And I've called the hospital to schedule my ultrasound. It's 10/20. And I got the registration form for the birth classes. Hopefully I'll be able to get into the ones I want.

I am feeling really exhausted today, so - just a few SO's:

Tera - YAY for a good appointment and for pre-registering at the hospital!

Amber - You look beautiful! :D And I love your website - I will definitely have to order something from you... :p

Kristen - YAY for a good appointment! :D

NYLACHI - I have anterior placenta as well. I was talking to a friend who had 2 pregnancies (both of which resulted in beautiful healthy babies) - one with anterior placenta and another with posterior - she said that it's a huge difference as far as feeling the movement is concerned!

Angela - glad to hear your appointment went well! I have to hurry up and register for classes as well - I've been such a procrastinator!

I had my glucose test this morning. It wasn't all that bad - the drink tasted like extra-sweet and flat orange soda, but it wasn't as nasty as I expected! I was about 30 min late to work because of all the waiting I had to do (I got to the doctor's office at 8 and had to be at work at 10.) They said I should have my result sometime around Tuesday next week...

I am so ready to leave work and go home right now! About 30 minutes left and I'm feeling very tired and sleepy. I am not sure whether this is due to me waking up extra-early this morning (6 am) or whether this is a side-effect of the glucose overload...

Sorry I haven’t come by for awhile. I have been busy at work and that’s when I usually come by since at night my DH get’s home late and I have to take care of DD. I went to the Old Navy store a couple of days ago and scored some short sleeve maternity shirts for $1. If you have a store near by; you might want to check out the sales since they are getting there seasonal stuff in and need to make room.

??I am not sure if this has been asked, but I know that there is a one month leave you can take before your due date with Dr. permission. I wonder if anyone has talked to their Dr about taking a month off since I want to do it and not sure how to go about asking her. I am just soooo tired and stressed from work that I need this extra time off before the baby’s due.

Movement: Quite a bit and it’s very uncomfortable when she is down near my pelvis bone.

Leaking: None so far.

Glad to hear all the Dr. appt’s went well. I have my next one on Oct 10th and I get to have my glucose drink. I can’t have anything to drink or eat 4 hours before the test. Time to catch up on my reading!

UGH - Just shoot me. I finally did a little bit of clothes shopping and blech! NOTHING looks decent on me. I bought some maternity jeans and apparently noone under 5'10 gets pregnant because my jeans are about 6 inches too long. I'm so frustrated with my expanding body. Nothing fits. I could probably find better fitting clothes are the expensive store, but spending that much money on a pair of jeans that I will wear for a few months just seems ridiculous.

I talked to my doc and she said no. She said that they only do that if your blood pressure is up. Otherwise, she told me it is good for you to be on your feet and moving around, as it can help the baby get ready for labor. I was frustrated with that, since I'm a teacher and on my feet all day. I pulled the preggo card and tried to get out of lunch duty, but the school said only if I can convince someone to switch with me. Fat chance! So, when I set up my leave, I am only working until 39 weeks. If I have the baby earlier, so be it. Otherwise, I'll gladly take an unpaid week to relax and finish up anything that isn't done. Plus, I don't want to start labor at school...

Pants--I own two pairs of pants right now that fit. My mom is supposedly hemming more for me that I already bought but they are about a foot too long. Unfortunately, its been almost 4 weeks and I am so sick of these two pairs of pants! Next time, they go to the tailors.

Hope everybody had a good weekend. I cleaned off my Tivo and got bored on Saturday. I broke out a jigsaw puzzle and sat there working on it till 4am. It was a round puzzle of different types of candy.

Yes, I know. I'm such a wild and crazy gal!

I ordered some more clothes today. Finally got the free shipping code from Jcpenny. ;) It's kind of exciting to be ordering clothes in a smaller size than what I've got. That hasn't happened in a long time.

My sister said she went to Baby Depot and bought something. I'm guessing it was the bedding. They had it on sale for $40 off. Plus I had given her some coupons I got out of my big bag o' free baby stuff I got from work. It's really the only thing that you couldn't get at Target or TRU. (Which is where I'm registered)

As if I didn't already have enough decisions to make....

We had a HMO (A) for insurance coverage. Last year, my company decided to stop offering that HMO (A). Annoying, but not a huge deal. We just switched to the other HMO (B) they offered. Now it's almost time for enrollment and they've changed it again. We still have the same HMO (B), but they are offering a network with the other HMOs (A) doctors.

It's great because we really liked our doctors from A. My OBGYN is covered under both plans so big change there. The only problem is which hospital I'll deliver at. I don't really care one way or another. But if we switch our insurance to network A I'll be at a different hospital after Jan 1. But if the baby comes early I'll still be in network B.

So which hospital do I take birthing classes at? Do I pre-register at both just in case?

We could just leave our insurance as is and change it after the baby comes. The birth is considered a qualifying event and they let you make changes outside the enrollment period. But DH insists on doing it now. He doesn't understand why I'm making a big deal out of it. He keeps saying that we really haven't filled out any paperwork yet so it shouldn't matter which hospital we end up at.

So am I making a big deal out of nothing or is DH crazy for wanting to change insurance plans so close to my due date?

Alegna-Puzzles!! My kind of gal! I love puzzles, but don't get much chance to do them now-a-days...Maybe when the kids have all turned 18 and are moving out ;) WRT, HMO. I don't think it really matters where you take the classes honestly. They're all going to be about the same. I never took any classes ahead of time with my kids, so I could be wrong, but I don't think so. As far as registering. If you do go ahead and switch the insurance, I'd go ahead and pre-register at both. Better safe than sorry, ya know? My DD was born 3 1/2 weeks early, so that would put you in the end of Dec if for some reason that happened. It won't hurt anything to register at both...Just more paperwork.

GardenGirl
10-09-2006, 11:57 AM
Angela - I would be a little "overwhelmed" with the change of insurance. I would suggest preregistering at both if you aren't sure which hospital you'll deliver at. Although, after saying that, they can't verify your insurance ahead of time (one the reasons for registering early) if you don't actually have it then.

If it doesn't make a huge difference, you could just wait until the baby is born to make any changes. You'll have to add him/her, so there is paperwork to fill out anyway ...

I just checked my registry and someone has bought our swing and a couple toys! I'm so excited. I didn't actually log on to peak, I logged on to add a car seat and maybe switch up my stroller. Which leads me to a question ...

I intially picked out the P3 in Toffee, but I am considering the Mint. Here are the two pictures. What do y'all think? I really like the green, but I'm worried I might get sick of them. I would get the matching car seat, but not worried about getting sick of it since they aren't in it long. Thoughts??

Garden Girl - I vote for the Toffee too :)

Alegna - I agree with wagsgirl that most childbirth classes are probably going to be about the same. Many hospitals offer a tour of the L&D floor as part of their childbirth classes - so if you end up delivering at a different hospital, that is probably the only thing that would really be a waste of time. Or they might spend time talking about some of the services they have available at that particular hospital. (I remember they did that at our childbirth class.) If you do switch insurances (and thus end up delivering at a different hospital) you can always call and ask for a tour of the L&D floor before you deliver (if you have time before baby comes ;)). I am delivering #2 at a new hospital since we moved to a new city, and they offer tours only. No point for me to sit through their childbirth classes since this is #2 for me and also because I know I am having a c/s....so I am just doing the tour part to familiarize myself with the layout of their birthing center, services available, etc.

Re: your insurance - I may be wrong about this, but my understanding of birth being a qualifying event means that you can add the baby to your existing plan (just like you could remove a spouse in the event of divorce or death, which are also qualifying events) but you can't completely change your plan options per se (e.g. switch from plan A to plan B). At least, that is how our benefits administrator explained it to me. You might want to check into that to make sure you can actually change plans once the baby comes, if that's what you think you might want to do. FWIW, we are going through open enrollment now too and trying to figure out if we should switch to a different plan or stick with what we are already on. I'm up to my eyeballs trying to calculate out-of-pocket costs, deductibles, etc. I feel your pain - ugh!

Zhanna - you've definitely popped out! :)

Hi all! Checking in. I know I've been MIA, but things have been c-r-a-z-y in our household as of late.

A few weeks ago, DH was presented with an opportunity to work in Tijuana. Yep, that's right. Mexico. It would be a 2-3 year assignment, and it would require us to move to SD. It's an opportunity that we really can't pass up, so we're moving from OC to SD. Soon.

In the past two weeks, we've put the house up for sale, had two open houses, and spent two Saturdays looking for places/areas of SD to live. Although we're only 1.5 hours away, both DH and I are clueless about the city.

We've managed to find a place, phew! That's a relief! But now we're just waiting for our house to sell. Not exactly the best time. But we've had three pretty interested families, so we're keeping our fingers crossed. We just need ONE of them to stick!

Anyway, adding this stress to a pregnancy and a full classload of teaching this semester...I'm wiped out. Plus, DH starts work in TJ at the end of the month. So he'll be staying weeknights down there for a few weeks until J and I move down. Did I mention this is all so overwhelming????

In baby news...Things are going well. I'm measuring right on, and am up 10 lbs so far. I have my glucose test coming up this week, and my next appt is Halloween.

As for some of the questions going around...
Shower/Registry-- Not really necessary since this is boy #2. The few things I do feel like I need, I'll ask for as Xmas gifts.

Movement-- Finally feeling the peanut move. And DH finally felt it for himself. He's active, but the feelings are pretty faint still.

GardenGirl My vote is for Toffee.

Take care all!

I'm so lucky I can be trivial right now. I think I manage that compared to you and others. In fact, Zhanna, did you ever find a new place? I recall you looking. Were there any others of you looking for a new place lately, I think someone else was ... You ladies amaze me with your strength/calmness.

Zhanna: I can see a difference. :p

Angela: I like puzzles, but haven't done one in years. As for the insurance, I'd check w/ your HR b/c I think what WB said is right. If you want to make a change, I'd go ahead and do it now, so you won't have to deal w/ it once the baby is here.

Tera: Guess I'm the odd man out....I like the mint. :D

Wow, Jilly! That's a lot to take in! Good luck selling your house and have a safe move. Glad you are feeling movement more often. ;)

I had my appt. today and am up 14lbs. Everything checked out fine. I got my script for the glucose test, so I need to schedule that and my next regular appt. At the next appt. I need to get my Rhogam shot and then I'll be on the every 2 week visit plan.

Welcome Dan's Girl! I had seen you around the boards and wondered why you hadn't joined out happy little group!!

I had a doc appointment this afternoon. Everything went pretty well. Katie's heartbeat sounded perfect. One thing was kinda freaky - I am currently 24w 2 days, but she measured me at 27 weeks! I know these measurements can be really off though so I am not freaking out...not anymore. When she said that, it kinda worried me. I asked if that meant this baby was going to be big and she said absolutely not. Whew!

I have to do the three hour glucose test this week. Blech! I knew it was going to happen, but I was just praying my doctor might forget or something...LOL No such luck. Crap.

I bought all the primer to start painting the nursery. I also bought one of the three colors I need. I'll get the other to tomorrow. I have some friends that are coming over to help paint on Sunday so now I am under the gun to have everything ready for painting by the time they get here.

Oh - Tera! I have to vote for the toffee as well. It's what I am hoping to get too...I really wanted the rose one, but Brad refuses to push a pink stroller.

Welcome Dan's Girl!

Lucy Sorry about the test. That sux.

Jilly--how exciting and scary at the same time!

Hope everyone is having a good week. I am an emotional wreck over stupid stuff today. The guidance counselor at work tried to make me feel bad about waiting a "problem child" out of the orchestra program, and I darn near cried--not because she was making me feel guilty (because she wasn't), but because I was frustrated she was TRYING to make me feel bad. I usually can let things roll off, but this being sensitive thing just isn't working for me!

Tonya: Glad I'm not the only one who voted Mint, for Tera's stroller. hehe. :D I like a splash of color.

Thanks for all the stroller votes ladies. I'm leaning more and more towards the mint. I figure I can get it and then look at it in my house and see if I really like it. I just wanted something a little different and I think it is. But we'll see if I cave. Ginger, I really liked the Rose too but since we don't know what we are having I can't do that. If I knew we were having a boy, I might even go for the turquoise - I liked it as well.

Glucose test - anyone have their results back yet. I'm just curious how long they take. I had it on Thursday so I'm thinking any day now. I'm not worried about it, but would like to know anyway.

Has anyone else been really hungry lately. This baby and I must be in a growth spurt because I'm hungry. It's all I can think of most of the day. I brought little snacks up to the office, but I'm no longer craving apples and cheese. Now I don't know what I want. I just know I'm hungry. Poor DH he must have proposed 4 different things for dinner last night and I nixed every one of them.

Tera - I like mint, but you know, turquoise works for a girl, too. :D And oh yes, hungry? Though I have noticed I can't eat anywhere near as much as I thought I could. Last night I loaded up my plate at dinner because I was starved, and I was so full afterwards!

Zhanna, I see a belly poppin' out there!

Angela, I'll echo what others have said and just go ahead and pre-register at both. It's no big deal, really. Actually, when my DD was born, I was pre-registered....I thought....but somehow I wasn't, and had to register when I checked in to be induced.

Hope I didn't miss anyone, but if so, HI! :) Nothing really new here! Same old, same old. DD is in her big girl bed now (knock on wood) so we're dismantling the crib. Maybe even today DH can do that. Therefore....I can relax about that now. ;) I've picked up coming-home outfits in both pink and blue, started buying diapers, bottles, and pacifiers (in different styles/brands - DD didn't like the ones we had, so I'm not gonna risk that again)....oh yes, and we're approved to donate Peanut's cord blood! HOORAY! This is huge for us. We're so excited. So, I'm getting stuff crossed off that to-do list! It's getting smaller and smaller....

Thanks for all the happy posts re: our u/s pictures. We love the shots of Peanut and love to share them. :)

If I knew we were having a boy, I might even go for the turquoise - I liked it as well.

I love the anise color! (I prefer it to the mint.) You could certainly use that for a girl as well as a boy. I would love to have more color, but DH really likes the toffee so , as long as I get my Peg, I'm happy with the toffee.

I just got DH and I registered for our child birth and newborn care classes. Yesterday the doctor scheduled my breastfeeding class and the introduction to the pediatrics department class. I feel like I am back in school!

Well, I guess we're just going to switch our insurance. The likelyhood of the baby coming in December is low anyway. I'll call the new hospital and see if I can get into the birthing classes. If they're full I'll try the other one. I guess it doesn't really matter in the long run. We can fill out the paperwork when we get there. I'm sure they have people that aren't preregistered all the time. I'll just have to make sure my doctors office knows what's going on.

My sister has gotten the first official RSVP for my shower. It was kind of funny, my friend that is supposed to be cohosting the shower got the call and emailed my sister. The friend was all confused since she hasn't bothered to do any of the planning, she had no idea the invites went out or that her name was on them as a host. She's going to feel pretty stupid today when she gets her invite in the mail. My sister is so frustrated with the entire thing.

Can't believe I'm in the 3rd trimester as of today!!! :D

Welcome DansGirl! :)

Ginger - YAY for a good doctor's appointment and sorry about you having to take the 3-hour test... Good luck!!!

Kristen - I am so there with you on being an emotional wreck! - everything is making me cry nowadays - I know it's silly, but I just can't help it! :o

Tera - I'm sorry that my vote is so late, but I do really like the mint!

Jen - congratulations on getting approved to donate Peanut's cord blood!!!

I got my test results back today - I passed the 1-hour test with flying colors, BUT - my hemoglobin is on the low side (normal is 12, mine is 11.4), so - I was told that it's still OK, but I should make sure to eat lots of iron. Every little thing worries me nowadays, so - I'm a bit of a nervous wreck now (again, I know it's silly, but I just can't help it... :( )

I can't believe we've got members in the 3rd tri ALREADY. YIKES!! ;)

Angela, that shower thing sounds more stressful than anything! I hope the actual shower goes off a lot better than the planning has. And I hope your friend steps up to help, once she realizes she's a cohost! Good call on the insurance/preregistering stuff.

Zhanna - sorry your hemoglobin was low. They don't want you on supps, huh? Suppose not, since it's so close to normal. Good, because I've heard those are nasssty. ;)

Hooray, Ginger, for all your classes! Welcome to Pre-Baby School. ;)

Jen - no, they didn't mention supplements, just iron-reach foods... The OB nurse who called me with results did assure me that I'm still OK, as long as I increase the iron intake in my diet.

Angela, we must've cross-posted before - I too hope that your friend steps up and helps out with whatever planning is left! This reminds me of my bridal shower situation 1 year ago - I had 5 bridesmaids, 2 of whom didn't help out AT ALL with any of the planning, yet - they tried to take the credit for what the other 3 girls did all by themselves!

So, this is what we decided to go with: Cortina Travel System (Sahara) by Chicco

http://www.chiccousa.com/product_image.php?imageid=10

It was between this and the Peg Perego Venezia, which would have been about $200 more (for both stroller and carseat), so - since we don't know what the near future holds yet (who knows - maybe we'll need to upgrade to a double stroller in about 1 - 1 1/2 years... :p ), we decided to go with this one for now. We actually played with it in the BRU store and really love it! The only thing that the Peg Perego has and Chicco doesn't is the reversible handle, which I guess I can live without...

GardenGirl
10-11-2006, 02:12 PM
Zhanna - quick recommendation on the Chicco. We looked at that one in the store and you have to be careful about putting the seat in the stroller. There is some connection that can rip the fabric on your stroller where the seat goes in. I saw it ripped on the floor model and the the store rep told me about how that happens. Of course, she did follow up with "This is highly overused." And I knew that and I'm sure you realize that too. It is constantly being popped in and out of the stroller on a daily basis, which you won't do. Especially since you only use the infant seat for +/- 5 months. I just wanted to give you the heads up ...

Welcome, DansGirl! Congrats on your girl!

Wow - the 3rd trimester is already here for some of you!! YAY!! Before we know it, we'll be sharing birth stories and discussing our babies' eating and sleep issues ;)

Zhanna - I admit I know very little about strollers, infant car seats and travel systems these days since it has been 3 years since I did all my own research and registered for or bought anything for DD, but that looks like a nice travel system.

Alegna - ugh, that shower stuff sounds stressful. I feel bad for your sister, but I also feel bad that you are getting dragged into the drama. I feel fortunate that my family and friends never shared any of the horror stories with me when they planned my showers 3 years ago. Try not to let it bother you too much - you have more important things to worry about :) Hopefully your friend will step up to the plate.

Especially since you only use the infant seat for +/- 5 months.
Depends on your baby's size and what the weight/height restrictions are :) My DD used her infant seat for her entire first year and we didn't need to switch to a convertible seat until she was 1+ year since she never hit the weight/height limits on the seat.

I was just checking my hospital's website to see when I want to schedule a tour of the birthing center, and when their car seat safety checks are scheduled. I don't plan to install the infant seat base until late December or early January, but still wanted to make sure I could get it checked by a certified tech before this baby actually comes. And then I emailed a friend to let her know that I will need my pack-and-play back (I let her borrow it since she doesn't have one). That's just about the only progress I have made to prepare for Nugget! I think once I enter the 3rd trimester myself, I am going to have an "OMG, time is running out!" moment! ;)

Gah, I am RIGHT there with you. I'm just happy we got DD transitioned out of the crib (OK, so we're working on it, she threw a GIANT tantrum at naptime today), so there's one huge thing done...but I look at my list and just shudder. Yeah, there's stuff that's done, but YIKES there's so much more to do!!!

I do agree with your statement re: the infant seat. DD was in hers till she was ~9 mos, I think? because she just then hit the height/weight requirements. She was a peanut! :)

Did you all see that one of the Nov mommies had her baby? He was a bit early, but still...that's two months before us! Freak out, here I come! ;)

Thanks Tera! I wonder though whether this is something that happens with this Travel System in particular, or it could happen with any of them, since you are taking the car seat out and putting in back in pretty often... This is honestly something I haven't even thought about! I guess DH and I will be heading back to BRU to take a look at strollers/carseats yet again...

Well, I knew it was too good to be true. I was hoping to go at least a full year without a funeral. (2004-my dad, 2005-MIL) No luck. We got word this morning that DH's grandfather passed away. He was 82. He had fallen a few weeks back and just never really recovered. DH went and spent the day with him last week. I think it's really helping him deal with it.

~~~~~~
I'm not stressing about the shower too much. At this point I'm finding things rather comical. My sister and I just laugh about them. Or at least I laugh ;)
~~~~~~

Zhanna - That system looks comfy.
We picked the Acella Alumilite Stroller by Safety 1st. It is really light weight and I like the way it folds. Plus it was relatively inexpensive. I couldn't justify $300 for a stroller that I hadn't seen in person. (nobody in town sells the P3) And like you, who knows what the future holds :)

Hi everybody!

I'm am so excited! So as I'm sure many of us are, DH and I are on a budget and a priority is that I can stay home with our little guy for 6-7 months after his birth before getting a new job. Since he was a surprise baby, we're scrambling a bit, factoring in our tax return, holding off on buying a second car, etc.

Well, for a long time we had thought that we were going to buy a crib, dresser, mirror and bedside table from Stanley Young America at a cost of about $2200 with tax. I was justifying it because this would be his "forever" furniture save for the crib that would go to the next baby. This expense was going to set us back a bit however and I didn't "love" it.

Yesterday I was looking through the JCPenny Web site and stumbled on a crib, dresser and bookcase set that I honestly LOVED-- and the price, out the door with shipping was $871! After some consideration about the quality that for sure will be less than the Young America set and the fact that we will still have to buy his "forever" furniture when he's 2 or so, we decided to go for it! Hooray! I figure we'll get quite a few good years out of this nursery furniture as we (hopefully) add more little ones to our family and for the price, we couldn't go wrong.

I hope the quality is ok! I love it because it reminds me of something you would see in Gepetto's house from Pinnochio or something-- I think I may put a Venetian glass mirror over the chest and maybe put up a Pinnochio print or something? It just reminds me of FantasyLand at Disneyworld. I'm a dork.

In other news, work has begun on our couple's shower. My sister is hosting and I'm really excited! I didn't think we were going to have a shower at all since our families are so spread out but I think we'll probably end up with 20-25 people in our house for brunch on Dec 3-- ...off to look up recipes for quiche...

Angela - Sorry to hear about your DH's grandfather.

Zhanna - We are getting the same travel system, as is my friend who is due 2/1. We both agreed that it was the easiest to fold and the price can't be beat. The only thing I've heard and I'm minorly worried about is that the car seat won't sit in a shopping cart. I tend to have to run all my errands on my own, so this might be a problem. Although I never do really big shopping trips, so maybe I'll just take the stroller or snap n' go and throw my items in the storage basket. :) I also loved the Peg Perego Venezia, but it was hard for me to justify spending 2x as much just so the baby can face me. I'm crossing my fingers that the Venezia gets clearanced at the end of the year, but otherwise we will be getting the Cortina. I've seen quite a few people using them out and about and everyone I've stopped (yes, I'm annoying like that!) has raved about it.

****

I haven't been updating much because I just don't have much going on. It's a good thing, I guess. I've been feeling great and have nothing to complain about. I simply can't believe I'll be in the 3rd trimester in less than a week. Crazy! Our crib arrived last week and I put it together myself. It's a red Jenny Lind crib and looks so cute in the room. Our changing table shipped today and I just hope I like it in person since I ordered it online. I am so excited to just have that room DONE. I guess I've been doing some nesting of sorts ... trying to get all the last minute stuff done before the baby comes and I have no time. We are having our house painted (inside) this week so I've been having to stay at my mom's. I am very eager to get home to my own bed tonight ... I don't even care if there is any lingering paint smell.

That's about it from here! Hope everyone is well!

Well, I called and signed up for the birthing classes. The operator said they like you to take the breastfeeding classes 2 weeks before your due date. (guess they're pretty confident you aren't giving birth early) But the only classes on the schedule were in Nov. She's going to check with the instructor and see if there are any in Dec or Jan. But I'm definately signed up for the 4 week Prepared Childbirth class and the Baby Basics class.

One thing off my list of things to do. Now if I could just get motivated to do some more.....

Good morning ladies - first to the S.O's ...

Robyn - congrats on having your nursery ready. I like the idea of a red crib. Do you have pics you can share (or want to share at this point)?

Angela - I'm so sorry to hear about DH's grandfather. I'm sure he is so glad he got to spend some quality time with him recently. While it can't replace any future time spent, it does make it easier.

Nylachi - what a super cute crib. I really hadn't seen anything like so far. That can definitely go either way (boy or girl) because I don't think you know yet do you? How long does it take to get in. We ordered our crib and dresser/hutch a couple weeks ago and it is more girl than boy, but with the gender neutral bedding I picked out, I think it will just be "baby" and not either. I can't find a picture of the dresser/hutch online. Oh well. But here's a pic of the crib though ... I really like the idea of having a linen drawer on the bottom.

I saw the baby move last night. It was the so neat! DH and I were lying in bed feeling the baby move (man was it energized last night) and all of a sudden just when we stopped my stomach moved up and down by my belly button. It was hilarious. Another funny thing, this baby is definitely on my left side. While I was laying flat, you could tell my stomach was lopsided towards the left. A stranger wouldn't be able to tell, but DH and I could. You can only see it like that when I'm lying down though.

It's officially been an entire week since I had my GTT. I may call the doctor this afternoon and see what's up. For something I told myself I'm not worried about, I can't seem to not care.

Another gift was purchased off our registry today - I've got to stop peeking. I really do want to be surprised.

Angela - we posted at the same time. Just wanted to add that you are taking the exact classes I am. I signed up for the breastfeeding class (2 classes) and the childbirth preparedness class (4 classes). We are going to wait to register for Baby Basics and Infant CPR just to make sure they aren't covered in our 4 week class. It makes our due date a little more "real" having scheduled classes doesn't it. I just can't believe how fast this is going!!

I'm just a posting fool today.... ;)

So on average how many doctors visits does a baby have in the first year?

I'm trying to figure out how much money to set aside in our flexible spending account. I don't want to put in too much and end up scrambling at the end of the year to get it all back. Or worse yet, lose it.

NYLACHI - Cute furniture!!!

I also loved the Peg Perego Venezia, but it was hard for me to justify spending 2x as much just so the baby can face me.
Robyn, I feel exactly the same way, therefore - we decided to go with Chicco instead. I also talked to a friend of mine who has a 1-year old and did buy a reversible handle stroller - she said that she only used the baby facing her position for the first 3-4 months, after that - the baby didn't want to lay on his back anymore and got bored of looking up - he wanted to look ahead. So - is that much money really worth spending just for 3-4 months? - not to me! :p

Tera - I really like the crib you ordered! We are also getting one with a linen drawer on the bottom. It's Christina 4-in-1 convertible by Simplicity. It also comes with an attached changing table (which could be detached if we want), which converts to a nightstand. My husband loves how sturdy this crib/changing table are and I love all the extra drawers they provide! :) Here it is:

Tera: I love the crib. I think it's neutral and will work fine for a girl or a boy.

Zhanna: Another cute crib. I can't wait to put ours together. :D

Robyn: Hooray for nursery progress!

Baby's first year: Baby generally has about 8 Well child visits. That of course doesn't include the 1/2 dozen times you end up at the ped b/c you "think" something is wrong or baby has a cold, etc. We had several early appt. b/c DS was jaundice. Anyhow, I'd say a minimum of 8 visits is probably about right. (Just as an aside..... DS who is 16 months got sick this summer....I spent $100 in copays and about $100 in meds between August and September)

nausea: I get a bit nauseaus when the little guy is extra active. It's like motion sickeness. :p

Baby's first year - during her first year, my DD visited her ped at the following regularly scheduled intervals: 2 weeks, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months. This is the schedule that our ped's office is on. Other peds might want to see your baby more or less, it all depends on how they operate. I do agree with jmvan74 that you also have to consider any potential illnesses (ear infections, etc.) Also don't forget that YOU will likely have a 6-week postpartum checkup, will need your annual pap smear sometime after the baby is born (if they don't do it at the 6-week PP check-up; my doctor did not), and YOU also might need to visit your doctor for various ailments. I breastfed my DD for over 1 year and came down with some severely plugged milk ducts and mastitis that required me to visit the doctor. I think I had to visit my doctor 3-4 times myself during my DD's first year. It's hard to predict exactly how many visits you'll need to plan for, but I would suggest calling the ped's office that you have chosen (if you haven't already, you might want to choose one before your baby comes, as the hospital will ask you who your ped is. If you don't choose one, I think they assign one to you) and ask them how often they like to see an infant in his/her first year for normal well-baby visits. Then maybe add a visit or two.

Garden Girl -- very cool about seeing your belly move :) Nugget's movements are quite noticeable to people. I was in training with my boss at the end of August when she shrieked because she saw my belly moving :D

Very cute cribs to all who posted!

Re: the GTT results....I think that if you haven't heard anything from your doctor by now, then all is well. With my first pregnancy, my OBGYN didn't call me at all. They just told me at my next appointment that everything was fine. My doctor's general rule is that as long as we don't call you, you have nothing to worry about. Don't hesitate to call them if you want to know, but I do think it's a good sign that you haven't heard from them.

QOTD re: nausea -- yep, it's not uncommon for some of the fun of the 1st trimester to make a comeback in the 3rd trimester. I had some nausea and fatigue in the 3rd tri when I was pregnant with DD. (Of course, with this pregnancy, I am still dealing with nausea & vomiting so I won't be surprised if it stays well into the 3rd tri  ) The fatigue that comes back in the 3rd tri is almost like nature's way of telling you to get all the rest you can before the sleepless nights with a newborn kick in ;)

Ped Visits-My doc follows the same schedule as WB's. 2w, 2m, 4m, 6m, 9m, 12m. Now, for us (on our old insurance that is) babies are covered 100% until the turn 18. You might wanna double check that. There was no copays at all. I'd hate for you to set aside a whole bunch of money, to not use it at all...

Nausea-I haven't had any as of yet, thank goodness. Maybe as the weeks go on...

Cribs-I think it was you, Nylachi who posted the JC Penney set, right? I think it's adorable!!

Angela-So sorry to hear about your DH's grandfather. Even if it's unexpected, it's still hard. We have a funeral tomorrow, too. Not fun.

For those with the linen drawer, we have one, too. I LOVE IT!!!!! It's really nice for all the blankets you will inevitably receive having a winter baby ;)

As for me, I've been very tired lately. That's not supposed to happen yet!!! I haven't been sleeping the greatest. Waking up in the middle of the night and not being able to fall back to sleep. Or not being able to wind down at bedtime. Both happened last night. Didn't fall asleep til around midnight, then was up from about 2:30-4, then the alarm went off at 6:45 to get DD ready for preschool. YUCK! I'm dragging today. Hopefully tonight will be better!

Oh, and I wanted to say also, that this kid is VERY active. Almost kicked the remote off my stomach a few days ago. My DS was pretty mellow, my DD was active, but this kid is way more so than I remember my DD being. I think I may have my work cut out for me, soon.

My DD finally felt the baby kick and now it's a huge thing that she wants to feel him/her every day. And she now thinks the baby is a boy. :)

And I feel huge. I know it's my 3rd baby and everything happens more quickly, but DAY-UM! I'll have to post a pic soon.

This woman at work didn't know I was preggo until I mentioned it in front of her today. She stood there dumbfounded and then said: "you can't be more then 3 months along - you are not showing at all!" I said "I'm actually 6 months along" and she just kept saying "Wow, I just can't believe it! - I would have never guessed!" and "Are you sure that you're pregnant? There can't be a baby in there!"

Even though it shouldn't be a big deal - this has really disturbed me! I know I don't have a big pregnant basketball belly or anything like that, but - I think that people should just keep their comments to themselves sometimes!

Thanks for the info ladies. Our insurance is a $20 copay for well or sick baby visits. So I know I've got at least $120 spent. :) I'll add in a few more visits for a sick baby. Plus the $250 copay for the birth and some for our prescriptions. We can turn in receipts for things like contact solution, antacids and bandaids for reimbursement too. I can always just stock up that sort of stuff at the end of the year if I've got money left in the account. But I try to estimate on the low side so I don't have that problem.

It's so hard to get a good idea of how much you're going to spend next year.

Zhanna - I get that "you barely look pregnant" comment almost on a daily basis. I feel your pain and for some reason I too get my feelings hurt. Although, if someone said I looked huge I'd probably feel alot worse.

Nurse just called about my GTT test. I wish Winter Biscuit was right and that no news was good news ... I didn't pass and it was just barely. She said 140 is normal and I was 146. That is what I get for not listening to everyone say "Even though they tell you to eat normally, DONT!" I had pasta for dinner the night before and a milkshake (which I never do). It was funny because I had forgotten about eating "good" and then when I had about 2 sips left of the shake I remembered and said "Screw it." So now I have to go back on Tuesday morning, fast from the night before and take that dang 3 hour test. Crap! Don't you just feel bad for me - Hahahaha!

Re insurance/copays/flex account - we have a $1000 deductible that pays 100% after you reach it. I put $3,000 in our flex plan in May (it runs May to May) and have about $1800 left (hit my deductible back in July, so everything is paid for until Dec 31) and other than prescriptions I won't have any other costs this year. So I figure that should cover me and baby for the delivery and next year. If I have the baby before Dec 31 I won't have to pay anything, but if I have him/her after Jan 1, I'll have to fork over another $1,000. I'm not too worried though. I figure if I can have a baby for $1,000 then I'm lucky.

I'm sorry that you didn't pass the 1-hour GTT, Tera! I'm almost sure though that it is because you ate "normally" - I was told to fast for 8 hours, but our tests seem to have been the same kind, which makes no sense to me! A friend of mine had her 1-hour GTT last week as well, and even though she was told she should eat normally, she didn't anyway - she said that everyone told her not to (just like they told you.) Good luck with the 3-hour test next week!

Yeah I'm kicking myself for not fasting, but I didn't want to put myself through the misery of not eating until 11 that morning (when my dr appt was) so I figured I'd just eat some eggs and sausage. Oh well. I'll get past it and I'll pass this one. I'll just bring a snack this time. I was fine for the 1 hour, but I think 3 hours will get to me. Looks like I'll be making a trip to Barnes and Noble for a good book to read during that time...

zhanna: Sorry your co-worker was so insensitive. I have the opposite problem...people asking if I'm due really soon.

Tera: That stinks that you failed the one hour test. I failed it w/ my first pg and I didn't fast either. I had eggs and bacon for breakfast. When I schedule this one, I will be fasting, regardless of what my OB said.

I'm into full panel pants now too. I bought three pairs of slacks for work at Mimi when I was about 15 weeks and the girl insisted that I didn't need a panel and that the pants I bought would just go under the belly when I started to get bigger.

Yea right.

They go under my belly alright. And also under my butt, under my hips, etc. $300 and I am almost not able to wear those pants anymore. I gave in and bought a pair of full panel pants last week and wore them every.day.since. Gross, I know.

I'm really only still aware of my body as it used to be-- when I wake up in the morning and lay in bed I could swear that my tummy is flat until I touch it or the little dude moves. I keep banging my belly into things, especially when I'm cooking. I'm a walking hazard.

I'm all about the full panel pants. I just feel like it "holds me in" better. And I don't have plumber's crack with them, either ;)

This morning, the kids and I ran a couple errands. I'm surprised it really hasn't happened yet, but I put Greydon in his carseat and as I was closing the door, I full-on hit my belly with it. Geez!!!

DH stayed home from work today so....

WE CAN PAINT THE NURSERY!!!!

Well, we are primering it today and then painting on Sunday. I helped with what I could....primered about half the room, but then had to get out of the room. The primer doesn't seem to be covering much. The family who owned the house before us used the room for their son and they used those stamps in dark green. They are going to be hard to cover up so that they don't show through the light pink paint.

To all you ladies in full panel pants - I'm right there with you. I have two pairs of pants (khaki and jeans) that I purchased from the Gap. They were great for when I was 15-22 weeks or so, but now the 3 inch band rolls over and sits under my belly. I wore the jeans today and I've pulled them up at least 20 times. It's ridiculous. I've bought several full panel pants since then and absolutely love them. Plus, when I wear tighter belly hugging shirts, you don't see the seam of my elastic band since my panel is up high under my boobs. They are great! I ordered 9 things from JCPenny's and they arrive on Monday, I can't wait. I bought a few things from Old Navy and the Gap that should arrive on Tuesday and Wednesday. After this, I think I'm done. I will have enough to last me through the holidays. I have some sweaters that I think I could put over a maternity button down shirt and look cute, so that will add to my wardrobe as well.

DH and I are off to a benefit for Cystic Fibrosis tonight. The dress is "Drilling Chic: Hard Hats and Jeans Welcome." Sort of an oilmans theme I guess. Needless to say my boots and hard hat are staying home. I'll be wearing an Old Navy b/w dress with a denim jacket as I have nothing casual. I have only purchased one non-working maternity outfit and it arrives with the new clothes next week. I guess I need to find a few more non working items ...

Pants I give up. I just wear long shirts so the darn things can slide down. I have one pair of over the belly pants and I HATE them.

Sorry not a whole lot of SO's, DD is just about done with bath (and babbling about how "all drains lead to the ocean," LOL...

GD test: good to know, I'm fasting like mad for it then. :) Mine's at 9:40 AM and all they told me was "no OJ." Um, OK...maybe I'll have a piece of toast or something, because if I don't eat anything till 11AM I'll pass out!!

Belly: Yeah, I keep bumping into stuff, too. :o

Pants: Those thick-band pants are still working OK for me, but I do like the full-belly style as well. May not be the most fashionable things on earth, but they are COMFY!

I'm also having issues sleeping at night. If DD wakes up, I'm awake for an hour after that. Well, at least I'm getting ready for those mid-night nursing sessions, right? ;)

And DH decided to mess with me tonight. My tummy's been tightening a lot this evening for whatever reason, so he decided I was having contractions. "It's Friday the 13th, after all.." (and when my DD was born, I was induced on Friday the 13th). I told him DON'T FREAK ME OUT!!

Uh oh, DD's ready...

Had my glucose test on Thursday and passed. My m/w had told me to have a low carb breakfast but I was running around all morning and I forgot to eat so I inadvertently fasted :) . Also had my blood tested for anemia and that came back okay. I go back in 3 weeks for my next appt., then it's every 2 weeks! This pregnancy is really flying by!

I haven't done a single thing to get ready for the new little one other than buy some clothes at a consignment sale. I still need to order furniture, set up the room, paint the room, etc. Oh well, it will get done!

I do not have a single pair of pants that will stay up on me. I'm SO tired of constantly pulling up my pants. My fave pair of jeans from last time are too small on me this time....I think my hips spread becuase I weigh about the same as I did last time! I ordered them in a size up so hopefully they will work for me this time around too.

I cannot believe we are entering the 3rd tri!

I bit the bullet and ordered my pink P3 yesterday. I have wanted one forever, but DH kept talking me out of it since we have a Zooper and a Graco Quattro. But the Graco is HEAVY. I ordered it without seeing it in person based on reviews, and that was a dumb move. I don't want to lift it into my SUV on a regular basis--the stroller alone weighs 35 lbs. It does have a lot of nice features, and will be great for going to the pool or a long day trip. But its huge and not a quick in and out stroller. The Zooper is going to live in DH's trunk, and the P3 will live in my trunk. It is a much more respectable 16 lbs and has an umbrella fold, so it is much smaller. So I am very excited since I have wanted it since they first came out (we were adopting then).

Woo-hoo! I hope everyone else had a good weekend!

Ginger - YAY for painting the nursery over the weekend! How did it turn out???
ETA - We must've cross-posted. It looks good already!

Jen - I've been having sleep issues as well - I wake up at least twice at night to go pee and I have a very hard time falling back asleep - my bed just feels so uncomfortable, I'm constantly either too hot or too cold and my dog trying to cuddle with me just annoys me now (I used to love it!) :(

Margaret - Congratulations on passing the glucose test!!! :)

Kristen - I love your pink P3 stroller! It's just too cute!

Julie - it's awesome that your DH is almost done painting the nursery! Can't wait to see some pictures of all the finished nurseries... (since I won't have one for a while - I have to live vicariously through the rest of you ladies... :p )

Well, DH has FINALLY felt the baby kick last night! 3 times, one right after another! He was so giddy about it afterwards - I think that it finally made him feel like he's truly a "part" of this pregnancy. He's been so sweet ever since... :)

I think Tera asked earlier whatever happened with our house-hunting... Here's an update - we've been looking like crazy and finally saw a house we both love over the weekend. We gave an offer, which is $25K lower then their asking price and of course - they declined (which we were expecting them to do anyway.) So, we're currently waiting for a counter-offer from them.

Hi everyone. Things have been hectic for me lately...not really sure why, but mostly just me trying to get the house together for DD's birthday parties (one for IL's, one for my family, otherwise it gets too chaotic) in less than 2 weeks

Pants - I officially ditched my short-panel pairs. Pained me to do so, but it was getting ridiculous. So much so that DD and I would actually sing a song about it "Mommy's pants are falling down, falling down, falling down..." (think London Bridge). And now my full-panel pairs (from my last pregnancy) are starting to unravel where the elastic is stitched in! Hopefully they can be fixed sturdy enough to hold this belly because, like jmvan74, I really don't want to have to buy any more clothing at this point! I have a wedding to go to and I'm praying the maternity outfit I wore to a wedding during my last pg fits, because really don't want to have to buy something I'll only wear once!

Sleep - Forget it. My hips and legs ache like crazy in bed, and I'm already having a hard time sleeping so it's a miracle if I'm sleeping before midnight. That would be fine except I'm craving AT LEAST 8 hours lately and DD is usually up around 7. When I'm not pg, sleep to me is a 'waste of time' (I know I need it, I just hate wasting time on it), but right now I really do want more of it!

Glucose - I haven't heard from my doctor and it's been more than a week and since she said 'no news is good news' I'm assuming that's good.

3rd Trimester - So when does it actually start? At 27 weeks? I know different charts show different weeks, but what are the majority of you using?

Trimester - I went by 27 weeks because that is one third of 40 weeks.

Zhanna - good luck with the house offer. DH and I built our house (well had a builder build it:p ) so we've never had to go through the negotiations of buying a house. I'm sure it is cumbersome and tiring.

Kristin - I think we'll have a few P3 owners in this group. We decided on the Mint color and I think it was Ginger that is getting one in Toffee, is that right Ginger?

Ginger - that's alot of primer. My aunt is going to paint our nursery in a few weeks, she does alot of faux finishing, though I think I'll just do a flat color. We have a smaller/average sized room and once I get all that furniture in there I think a busy wall will make it look even smaller. I'm glad she doesn't have to prime it like you though. That would make me nuts!!

I had a hard time with the color. I love the mint too. And, toffee had been my choice before I knew it was a girl. But, the pink one is on sale for $269 from Albee's. The plan is to adopt the next child from China, so pink will most likely work for that child too. I also love the pink breast cancer Baby Jogger, but $379 was hard to take in since the point was to go smaller and lighter.

Ginger Yuck on the primer! We painted our bedroom red and it took 6 coats between primer and paint. You have my sympathy!

Sleep I'm not getting too much. I wake up with the kicked in the crotch feeling, which I have found translates to I have to pee most of the time. I just started having baby care nightmares. I have been a nanny and babysat all growing up, so I am completely comfortable around even tiny infants. I'm not sure where or why they are suddenly almost every night now.

Nurseries Bring on the pics! Ours so far is at www.russvance.com/gallery/Upcoming-Baby, but we haven't put up any pics/letters or ordered our glider yet.

shoot. It's not online. It's a one-piece outfit from Gap that is yellow with a layered white long sleeve undershirt. It says baby gap on the front in green.

Both are really cute, but I like the outfit look from the first outfit, I think...

Ginger-Just have to say that 6 coats of primer must have sucked!! But, the room is looking great!!

Yeah - I am still hopeful for a P3! If I do get one, the toffee color is the only color DH likes. I tried again to persuade him to get the pink with the $30 sale...but no luck.

I did my 3 hour glucose test this morning. UGH - It was so hard to get my fat ass out of bed to go do it. I usually sleep in til 8:30 or so, but I was awake at 6 when DH left for work. I had an argument with myself for the next 15 minutes about whether or not I was going to go get the test done. The "smarter" side finally won out and I just pulled clothes on and got it done. Hopefully everything will be ok. I so do NOT want to have to deal with a special diet!

Of course because of that disgusting drink, I had a headache most of the rest of the day. DH came home and was ready to do some more painting, but there was no way I was going to be able to paint. He did a coat of the pink by himself and only had a couple of boo boos that were easily fixable. We will do another coat of the brown tomorrow and see if it looks ok. I really don't want to have to do THREE coats of color on top of 5 coats of primer...the room will be smaller because of all the layers of paint on the walls! LOL

Melne11, who hasn't been back to update us on her pregnancy. Unfortunately, she suffered a m/c back in June. I have updated the front page with these sad news... :(

:( Melne11, if you are out there, I just wanted to say how sorry I am. You're in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi to everyone, and YAY for all the nursery progress, strollers, going-home outfits, and good results on glucose tests (for those who passed). I still haven't taken my glucose test yet...I have until November 3 and have totally been procrastinating :o

I did want to share some happy news. In an earlier post, I mentioned that one of my girlfriends (originally due in November) found out at her 20-week ultrasound that her baby had a major heart defect. They didn't know if the baby would survive the pregnancy or the delivery. Her doctor told her that if it survived the pregnancy, it would need to be born via c-section (vaginal birth too risky for a baby with such severe heart defects), would need open heart surgery right away and would need a pacemaker put in, and the prognosis was unknown. I am happy to report that she had her baby boy 5 weeks early last Friday by c-section, and so far things are looking pretty good :) My friend had been on steroids to help the baby's development (since they wanted the baby to be as big and strong as possible when it was born due to the heart issues), and the steriods decreased the amount of amniotic fluid she had. So, that's why they had to take the baby out so early. (They were hoping she'd make it to 37 weeks.) The baby is in NICU as expected and his heartbeat is something like 50 bpm. Fortunately, he is tolerating his low heart rate quite well so far and may even be able to go home later this week. He was a little over 5 pounds when he was born (not bad for being 5 weeks early!), and as soon as he hits 6 1/2 pounds, they will put the pacemaker in. The best news is that they are NOT anticipating open heart surgery, and the prognosis is good :) I am just so happy for her. Being pregnant myself, stories like this really touch my heart and make me realize how precious life is, and how things like this can happen to anyone. We've all been blessed with healthy pregnancies so far, and I just hope and pray that our good fortune continues once our precious babies start arriving! OK, enough sappy stuff from me :p

I am TOTALLY in denial that I am about to enter the 3rd trimester...

Howdy ladies ~ hope everybody had a good weekend. Sounds like some people have made some progress on the baby's room. When you're done with yours would you like to come over and work on mine? ;) I'm such a procrastinator.

This weekend was shot anyway. 500 miles, 3 funerals and family. Talk about exhausting.

But I did hear back from my daycare provider. They are going to charge me $85 per week. And they're sending over a packet of information about their policies and such. So I can mark that off my list of things to do.

I need to follow up with the lady at the hospital for scheduling my birthing classes. She was waiting to see if there was a breastfeeding class later than Nov. But I haven't heard back from her yet.

Items are being bought off my registry. That's pretty exciting.

My DH is considering building a crib for the baby. A guy on his forum just built one and the pictures have inspired DH. We'll see if it actually gets done or not.

I've got another ultrasound on Friday. I'm still trying to convince DH to find out the sex. But so far he's not budging.

Hi all! I haven't been by in forever...life is insanely busy with work, our side business, and the rental properties. Oh yeah, plus finding time for family, friends, and getting ready for the baby. :( We have GOT to finish the painting in the nursery and put up the chairrail this weekend since the dresser we ordered is coming on October 29th. No word yet on the crib but that is fine with me since we aren't ready!

I had a midwife appointment yesterday and the baby is doing great. He is growing and moving and appears to be thriving. He is sucking momma dry though - I got weighed yesterday and I had gained 1 pound since my last visit 5 weeks ago. :( So that means I am up a total of 1 pound for the entire pregnancy. I am being started on calcium supplements, Ensure, possibly iron supplements, and having some metabolic bloodwork added to my Gestational Diabetes test next week. I'm also supposed to be forcing myself to eat 6 times a day with a heavy emphasis on protein and dairy. My midwife said to "put cheese on everything" and try to eat ice cream every night. My husband has taken up the nightly ice cream ritual but I can't get into it. ;)

My gut instinct is that everything is fine and that the baby is fine and taking what he needs from me but it's still a tiny bit scary. I am still getting a lot of weird and/or negative reactions from people about the size of my belly which can be frustrating. I wear maternity pants 100% of the time but still wear a lot of my regular sweaters and shirts and I think that might throw people off. I am also super picky about my maternity clothes and I won't wear anything with a tie in the back or that is tent-like so I think that contributes to me looking "small". I'm also 5'8 with a long-ish torso, so I think he just has room to spread out. He is actually measuring a week ahead.

Anyway, I feel wonderful, am back to sleeping like the dead like in the 1st trimester, and my husband and I are getting so excited for the baby. We had our last "pre-baby" plane ride last week when we went to Vegas with some friends. We had a blast. One couple just announced before the trip they are due in May, so we are extremely excited about that. I am so excited our friends are having babies and they can all grow up together.

My showers are coming up soon - November 4th and November 12th. I am a terrible registry peeker but I haven't told my husband.

Oh I wanted to add, the baby does the cutest thing now. He really seems to respond to my husband's voice. I have been noticing over the last few weeks that if DH is talking, the baby starts kicking and moving. I was away from home with my family this weekend and my husband wasn't with me. The baby was so, so quiet and didn't move much at all. As soon as I came home I was sitting on the couch talking to DH about our weekends and the baby was moving constantly for like a half an hour while he was talking. It was the sweetest thing ever and DH was so happy. :D

Oops, I guess I wrote a novel about myself. I hope everyone else is doing well. :)

QOTD: Has anyone else's feet gotten bigger?

My answer: YES! My feet are not at all swollen, they are just bigger! It literally happened overnight. I have bought 5 new pairs of shoes in the last week. My midwife said they probably won't go back down either. I am bitter.

I was chatting with a friend of mine and, for my shower gift, she basically said she can spend $200 and I can choose what i want. Well, I have been drooling over a Petunia Picklebottom diaper bag for months now. I really want a Ginger Roll (ha ha ha!) or a Coconut Roll. Brad and my SIL are giving me crap about how I should use the money for something else, but my friend wants to get me something that I wouldn't necessarily buy for myself - something probably considered frivolous...she originally was going to buy the totally overpriced Laura Ashley Aqua Bay Pack N Play, but I wouldn't let her spend the money because it's so overpriced. What frivolous item would YOU buy with an extra $200?

(If I don't like the PP bag as much in person as I have in the pics, I wil probably just have her get a giftcard and use it towards something else...like my P3!)

I don't really care about diaper bags one way or another (we just used an Eddie Bauer backpack style one, and it worked well for our needs with DD) so I'd have to say that I'd probably buy a really cool stroller. Not sure which one/what kind. I want to clarify that I don't consider a stroller a frivolous item. Just the fact that we already have one and don't NEED a new one, makes buying another one frivolous for me. Either that, or maybe I'd treat myself to $200 worth of prenatal spa treatments (which definitely isn't frivolous either! I'd just be more inclined to book several treatments on someone else's dime ;))

QOTD re: feet growing So far, no noticeable growth. They didn't grow when I was pregnant with DD either, but I almost expected them to because my mom went up 1 1/2 sizes when she was pregnant. However, just last week I noticed that my feet are getting slightly swollen at the end of the day. Not huge, but big enough to cause some discomfort and make me notice, and make me remove my socks as soon as I get home (as the elastic totally cuts my circulation off in my ankles now). I so HATE the "cankle" look when my feet and ankles swell!

QOTD: feet growing ~ I haven't really noticed any growing. But my feet seem to be getting hot and sweaty a lot more now. I have to change my socks when I get home from work because my feet feel gross.

Still thinking about the frivolous purchase. I was leaning towards a top of the line stroller. But now I'm thinking something more like a maid to come clean my house. :p

Ginger:Wow, I hate primer! We had to do several coats on a bedroom in our old house. It smells worse than reg. paint and is just nasty! I hope you passed the 3 hour test!

$200: I'm a huge diaper bag fan, so that sounds perfect me...I'd probably also look in to a new sling ( I love the adjustable fleece pouches from Kangaroo Korner and a new fun print would be nice) ;)

Tonya: That first outift looks almost like the sleeper and matching hat I bought o bring DS home from the hospital in. I think I'm going to go buy a preemie sleeper just in case, too. Collin was so small he was swimming in the NB outfit we had.

WB: What great news about your friend's baby.

Angela: DH building the crib, huh? That could be very cool.

Feet: Mine are the same. They didn't grow w/ Collin either.

I would totally blow it at Pottery Barn Kids. I love their ultimate diaper bag and the changing table covers. My good friend has both and they are totally worth the price! The clothes are adorable and if you order online, you can have just about anything monogrammed. Lil' Abby already has a couple outfits from there with the onsies monogrammed. The stuff at PBK is more expensive, so to me, that is splurging but still semi-practical at the same time.

Or...I really like the Fleurville Sling Tote in pink stripe or aqua stripe.

Or...I love my Laura Ashley Pack and Play. To me, it looks so much nicer than the cheaper models and I love the fold away changing table.

Or...You could be practical and put it toward a Britax Marathon or Decathalon--both are well over $200 tho.

I meant to post yesterday, but ran out of time (and energy). I had my three hour GTT test and while I wouldn’t want to do it again, it wasn’t as bad as I was thinking it was going to be. I ate dinner the night before around 7 and then didn’t eat another thing (per dr instructions). I got to the lab appointment at 9, gave them a urine sample and blood sample and then drank that sweet nasty drink again. I finished all that at 9:08. Then at 10:08 I gave another blood sample and urine sample. Did the same at 11:08 and finally finished at 12:08. I wasn’t expecting to give any urine, but someone how found a way to create some even though I hadn’t had anything to drink all morning. At 9 I was absolutely starving, but (I can’t believe I’m going to say this) the drink actually curbed my appetite long enough to finish the test and get to lunch. I have 4 beautiful pin pricks on my arms, but other than that I’m great. I had a little headache after downing the orange drink, but it vanished quickly. I just sat and watched all the moms and babies coming and going through the lobby. The only uncomfortable portion of the day is when a lady who was waiting on her daughter started telling me about a friend with a nipple infection – I just about died of embarrassment. I quickly looked down at my watch thankful it was time for another blood draw and said, “sorry I have to go get stuck with a needle.” And for the first time in my life I was actually looking forward to it!!

I got a call that parts of my bedding set are in. Just the nursery pillow (for my glider) and the toy bag. I’m going to pick them up after lunch. I’m very anxious to see how all the fabrics blend together. Since I picked them out on swatches, I really don’t know how it’s going to look all put together. The actually bedding (bumper, crib sheet, skirt) take a little longer but should be in next week at the latest.

Frivolous item – I bought the Fluerville Sling Tote last weekend and I’m feeling really guilty. But I really really like it. I love the O rings it has to attach to the stroller, plus since it doesn’t have a flip top I have immediate access while it’s on the stroller. I got it in the Pink Bingo, but think I’m going to take it back for the Pink Stripe. The stripe has green in and will look cute on my mint stroller. We’ll see though. If you don’t want the diaper bag, I would totally concur with the prenatal massage from a reputable spa. My mother bought me one a month ago and it was amazing. I want another one in a few weeks.

Feet – I think my feet are the same through this pregnancy thus far, but I’m not holding out. I already have long skinny feet, I’m a 10 or 9.5 narrow. They aren’t swollen …yet, but know they will be eventually.

Wine-o-girlie – I got another comment today about how little my belly is. I’m 5’9” and think this baby is transverse, so there isn’t a lot of popping out. Tighter maternity clothes definitely show off my pooch, but when I wear our firm polo shirts and jeans on Friday no one can tell I’m pregnant. I went to a charity thing on Friday and everyone kept asking why I wasn’t drinking any wine – umm, I’m seven months pregnant … They were stunned. It’s only a matter of time before it all starts piling on though – I’m not that lucky!!

Hi guys,
OK, speaking of strollers, I just registered for the Britax Companion car seat and the Britax Preview stroller-- what do you think? Good choice? I'm so overwhelmed and I wish I had my copy of Baby Bargains at the ready!

Wine_o_girlie - I am still mostly in non-maternity pants and I don't own any maternity shirts/sweaters at all. My belly does not look preggo at all and I've been getting comments as well... :( As much as they annoy me, I've come to realize that the only thing that matters is that the baby is healthy and growing (and as per my doc, he is), so - I try not to pay attention to insensitive comments...

Why am I always so indecisive? Just when I thought I made up my mind about the travel system, I start doubting my decision... I keep looking at the Peg Perego Venezia/Primo Viaggio stroller/carseat combo and comparing it to the Chicco Cortina Travel System I *thought* I wanted... I need help deciding! Anyone has any thoughts?

Tera: Glad the GTT is over and I hope you passed. ;) That is so exciting that some of your bedding is done!

NYLACHI: I didn't even know Britax made a stroller.:o The carseats are top of the line though. We have a Britax Rouundabout Convertible seat, but we have a Graco Snugride Infant seat, so I'm not really qualified to give advice. I don't have the latest version of Baby Bargains, either. :(

Zhanna: Both systems look nice. Did you look at reviews? I haven't really done any research since I'll be using Collin's infant seat and my Zooper stroller. How big of a price difference is there? I know when I was shopping for those things, safety was obviously key, but when it came down to it, some things were worth the extra money and some weren't, ya know?

I had my first and 2nd official belly rubs this weekend. Both my SILs did the belly rub thing when they saw me at the visitation for thier grandfather this weekend.

I guess it didn't bother me too much. They're family. And some days I think they are more excited about this pregnancy than I am. (not that I'm not excited ~ but there are some times others can be over the top)

Now if a perfect stranger did it I'd probably be uncomfortable.

Julie, the reviews are good for both. The only thing that Cortina system doesn't have is the reversable handle and the babysafe enclosure, which makes it safe for infants to be placed directly in the stroller.

So, my DH has made the executive decision about 1/2 hour ago and we went ahead and ordered the Peg Perego stroller/carseat combo online! It is about $120 more then the Chicco system, but considering that MIL paid $300 toward the purchase, we only ended up paying $140 out of our pocket, which is pretty good! :)

Angela - I know what you mean about the belly rubbing... My sister and my best friend have been rubbing my belly for weeks and I don't mind that at all... However, when a co-worker rubbed it last week, it did make me feel quite uncomfortable...

Zhanna - My friend has the Chicco Cortina system and HATES the stroller. She is 5-8 and her husband is 6-3 and they are constantly bumping their feet on the wheels and just overall hate the stroller (especially the handles). They like the car seat but apparently that car seat is one of the few infant ones that don't fit "snugly" into a shopping cart at the grocery store or Target. They hated the stroller so badly they went out an purchased a Phil & Ted's E3 to use with their infant seat. They bought the conversion kit and everything and then found out their seat is the ONLY ONE that won't work with the E3. They are very frustrated but their son is almost out of the infant seat so that is a good thing. Sorry to throw that out there but since you asked...:o

We are not getting an infant car seat (just going with the Britax Decathalon from birth) and are getting the E3 to use from birth since it has full recline. It's such a great stroller and provides you the flexibility to add an additional seat for kiddo #2. I love the idea of not having to purchase another stroller down the line when we have another baby. Also, the thing turns like a dream because of the front wheel, I love the "bar" steering instead of seperate handles, and it is very lightweight (I think it's the most lightweight jogger on the market but I could be wrong). Plus, the colors are too fun. :)

Oh yeah, I forgot to add you can get 15% off and free shipping at www.greatbeginningsonline.com for the E3 with the promotion code "gbbaby". That is a big savings - like $60. :) I have no idea how long the code lasts for or what else it might be good for on that site but it works for the E3 as of today. HTH if anyone is interested in that stroller. :)

I ordered the baby bedding today! I am so excited. :D I got the crib skirt and bumper from Land of Nod - "Womb with a View".

I just got back from picking up my nursery pillow and toy bag. Here's a photo of the pillow. Not sure if you can tell or not, but the cording is a purple and green plaid. After seeing how everything looks together, I'll definitely have the walls painted light purple. That fabric will be the ties on the bumper and trim on the crib skirt, so there isn't a whole lot of it. I can't wait to get the actual bedding in ...

http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j99/terashelton/Pillow005.jpg

I think the BRU has the Toffee stroller in stock (or they did two weeks ago), but it's been backordered online for almost a month. Both the stroller and the infant seat. Looks like we aren't the only ones wanting a P3 these days!

Off to go eat a snack before DH comes home and makes dinner.

Help!!

All of this stroller talk is making me question my decision!! I was going to go with the Chicco Cortina system, mostly out of cost practicality. I am really wanting a "regular stroller" to use as a mall stroller, etc. Then I also want a decent jogging stroller, plus I'm sure not far down the line I'll get another lightweight stroller for errands and such. I feel like I may as just well buy the Bugaboo for what that is all going to cost!

I really like the Venenzia (the one Zhanna is getting) but I was worried that the cost of that, plus a carseat, plus a jogging stroller is a little much. It's not like we *can't* spend the money, but I'm just questioning whether it's worth it. I like the fold of the Venezia as opposed to the umbrella fold of the P3. For some reason the P3 just did not jive with me.

I do like the fold of the Cortina, and I like that is has an adult snack tray. Not a deal breaker, but it seems nice to have a secure place to put a drink and cell phone. The basket in this is nice too. And despite the problems putting the carseat in a shopping cart (I do worry about this) I like how the carseat installs in the car.

And for whatever reason, I am set on having a separate everyday and jogging stroller. I'm fine with having a cheapie jogging stroller ... I just want it for walking on the paths around our neighborhood which are pebbles - a bit rough but not like we're off-roading. I think the thing that scares me about having a "jogging" stroller as my everyday stroller is that sometimes 3-wheel stroller seems tippy to me. And in general they seem harder to fold. (I would just store the jogger in the garage, so no worries on folding.)

Any ideas for me to look at? Does my ideal stroller exist somewhere? I know we have some stroller gurus here!

Hmmm--

As far as Bugaboo is concerned...I really wanted one. I was ready to shell out the mega $$$. But the baby is going to be born in January, and in Indiana, we just wouldn't use the pram function that much. Without really using the pram, it didn't seem worth the $800. DH also wasn't convinced of anything that you have to take the seat off to fold. We played with it for a long time in the store, and ultimately went home empty handed.

Some people like their Venezias, but I have heard of many many more on StrollerSwap that liked it when the baby was little, but once the kid was older, he/she wanted to face out and then they sold it and bought something else. Lots of people on there love their Inglesina Zippys, E3s, as well as Mountain Buggys and Baby Jogger, and just use that for every day, picking up a Mac Quest or Triumph for quick errands later on. If you get to try a Zippy, know that there is a HUGE difference between the 2005 and the 2005 1/2 models. The 2005 models were not very good. So bad that halfway through the year, they released a newer model.

I have also heard people on StrollerSwap who really like the Chicco C1. It snaps with the KeyFit.

You might be better to ask on Baby Bargains -www.babybargains.com and click on message boards. There is a stroller board there that has really helpful people.

Good luck!

Ginger - the Venezia I ordered is a 2005 model, which is exactly the same as 2006, but in different color - mine is Blu Moon (the same exact one as in the picture I posted). Same for the carseat. Again, there is no difference between the 2005 and the 2006 models, other then the colors and I do like Blumoon, especially since it's about $200 cheaper (combined for the carseat and the stroller), so - that's what I ordered. I got it from www.babydealz.com.

Kristen - the Venezia is reversible, so - the kid can face in or out. That's one feature I really love about it and that's what sold me on it.

ETA: Ginger, there are other 2005 models (different colors) available as well - I think Safari and Oasis are the names.

Regarding strollers- I've had many, many, many strollers. About a dozen by now! I am just a stroller-head, I guess, :). I'm an active member over on baby bargains and also the strollerswap boards. Anyhow, first, know that you don't have to have a million strollers to begin with. And also know that it is very unlikely that only one stroller is going to be able to meet all your needs for your child's entire first few years! What I would recommend is to get a good quality all-purpose stroller that can take your carseat (for quick trip purposes only). This would be something like the P3. Conversely, you can get a carseat frame for the beginning until you decide what your needs are, especially in the beginning and especially since we are delivering in the dead of winter most places, and then decide what you want to get. There are a lot of factors- most depending on your baby- that will determine what stroller will work best for your situation. For example, my DD (and many, many, other kiddos I know) likes to be able to sit upright in the stroller, or she's not very happy or comfy. This means that many strollers won't work for us because a lot of them don't have an upright setting (inglesinas, combis, graco to name a few brands). Some kids don't care. Things like a parent tray can be added aftermarket easily and don't make up for crappy steering- if you don't like to push the stroller or your kid doesn't like to sit in it, you won't care much about whether it has a tray to hold your cell and a latte, kwim?
So, what I'm trying to say is, start with one, and make it an all-purpose type of one. This isn't a lifetime commitment and you can always sell/trade/change your mind later on. Even though you might not want to, if you or your little one hate what you end up with, you aren't going to be using it, and you won't really know how it will be until they are here.

I just love the people I work with. They know everything there is to know about everything!

I'm currently listening to a 45 year old man talk about the benefits of stay at home moms. His daughter just recently quit her job to stay home with her two young children. She was paying more in daycare than she was making. At least that's her story. I did the math and there is no way. Um, great for her. But this guy has no children of his own. His wifes kids were teenagers by the time they got married. And can you really compare his mom staying home with him 45 years ago to a mom in 2006/7?

I don't know. Maybe I'm extra annoyed because I can't afford to stay home. But I'm really sick of these people talking about stuff they have no idea about. Between this guy and the lady that told me my baby was attached at my bellybutton (I was explaining we couldn't get a good shot at the last ultrasound because kiddo was hiding behind my bellybutton) I don't even want to talk about this pregnancy or anything child related at work.

Garden Girl - that nursery pillow is absolutely gorgeous! You must be so excited to get the rest of the bedding in. Can't wait to see pics of the final ensemble! :)

Alegna - I know too well how annoying/irritating people can be. Some days it's easy for me to roll my eyes and just let things go in one ear and out the other. Other days, it's not so easy. When I was pregnant with my DD, there were days when I would get SO annoyed when random strangers would insist that I was carrying a boy/girl based on DD's heartbeat at my last appointment, or based on how I was carrying. Some days I could just smile and say "We'll find out soon enough." Other days, I felt the need to launch into a long spiel about how there is no scientific evidence that heartbeat rate or how a mother is carrying can accurately predict gender... :p

This time around, what really gets under my skin is when people (well-meaning, I'm sure ;)) act like they are experts when they are actually sprouting off BS. Example: a teacher that my MIL works with is due with her first baby in February, so my MIL is always comparing my pregnancy with her friend's ("Tiffany gained 2 pounds this month, how much did you gain?" ). This gal insisted when she was 8 weeks along that she could feel her baby's heartbeat beating through her belly. Really? I really had to bite my tongue to keep from telling her that she didn't know what the heck she was talking about.

Tera - the pillow is adorable - I absolutely love the colors!

Angela - the SAHM issue is a sensitive subject for me too - all DH's friends' wives are SAH moms and every time we all meet, they start talking about how I MUST stay home with my child for at least a year, and that if I plan on going back to work as soon as I am - I shouldn't even attempt BF'ing, etc. These conversations really bend me out of shape sometimes - as much as I would love to spend more time with my child then I will be able to, I also don't want to give up being comfortable financially (which we won't be anymore, if I stop working).

It is a big deal to DH and I that we are able to go on a few vacations a year, that we both drive new cars, that if we want to splurge on something for ourselves - we can. If I became a SAHM, our income would be cut in half, and I don't even know if we'd be able to pull it off with a huge mortgage, 2 car payments, etc. I tried explaining this to DH's friends' wives, but these women have no idea what I'm talking about, so - I stopped stressing myself out and I try to ignore their comments now...

Tera: Those colors work beautifully together! It'll look fantastic w/ purple walls. So adorable.

Stollers: I have to agree w/ Margaret that there is no "perfect" stoller that will meet all of your needs. I think a sturdy, easily steered, semi-light, all-purpose stroller is great for the beginning. Our stroller has a full recline and a completely upright position. I was able to put DS in from birth and at 16 months he still does great in it. It steers like a dream (really important for getting in to the mall, since no one holds the door for me) It does lack some of the bells and whistles, but it has been perfect for us. I'm sure you will all find something that fits your personal needs.

Experts: Everyone thinks they are an expert. I usually just let things go in one ear and out the other. As for the SAH vs WOH debate. I just don't go there. There are pros and cons to each and every family has different wants, needs and priorities.

Zhanna--Yes, the Venezia is reversible. What people trade it in for is usually that it is large. They typically sell it for something more compact with bigger/rubber wheels for bumpy sidewalks. But they LOVE it when the baby is small.

The Carters store had some good sales today when I was there if anyone is looking for some fun. The blue/white flowered collection is 50% off, and the Pretty in Pink pieces are each $5. Sorry, I didn't really look at boy things, but I would suspect there are equivalent sales there, too. My favorite were these overalls with a little purple turtleneck to go under and the blue overalls with a little white shirt.
So far, one of these might be our coming home outfit.
