Hey ladies,
I just finished my last pack of BCP. I am waiting for AF to arrive. My question is- is it 10-14 dys as soon as I get AF or when I finish AF that I am fertile?
And, what day is the most fertile the 10th, 11th etc...?
Thanks. Hope it happens quick. My DD is 2.5 yrs and we would like another one by next summer.
:)

Hi. Welcome to the wonderful world of TTC!
I strongly urge you to check out Taking Charge of Your Fertility. (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0060937645/sr=8-1/qid=1156435771/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-5662391-0103318?ie=UTF8) There's a lot more to your cycle than you may have realized and this book thoroughly explains it.
In brief, the best time to try to conceive is in the 5 days before you ovulate. The trick is knowing when those 5 days are. You could ovulate anywhere from 8 days after your last pill to...a month or more. It really depends on your body.
To start, you might want to try having intercourse starting about 10 days after the first day of your cycle (which is the first day of your period). It's really up to you and your style if you want to just see what happens, chart your cycle (which can tell you exactly when you ovulate), or use ovulation predictor kits (which can help tell you when you're getting ready to ovulate, but not 100% that you have).
Also, read around in the FP boards and you'll learn a lot. Good luck!

I am in my 2nd cycle after BCP and I wasn't fertile till day 23 this cycle (was using OPK tests) so BCP does mess up the first few cycles once your off.. or at least they do for me!

I also suggest reading Taking Charge of Your Fertility. I thought I knew everything about my cycle until I read that book. Found out I didn't know squat about how my body really works.:p It's one of those books that I keep on hand if anything out of the norm happens so I can look it up and make sure it's normal.
Yes-coming off BCP can mess up your cycle anywhere from 1 cycle to 3 (depending on your body). Some women don't have a problem, some are actually more fertile earlier in their cycle than they will be for other cycles. The 10-14 day rule doesn't apply to everyone. For instance, I have a 30-33 day cycle and I normally get a positive OPK around CD 15 or 16. That just means that a hormone surge has been detected. I should ovulate anywhere in the day or so after that.
Good luck!
