My dad and step-mom are foster "parents" to many cats. They take in kittens, unwanted, or injured cats and nurse them to health and then help to get them adopted.

I wanted to share a somewhat graphic, but happy ending story below....

My dad and step-mom recently recd a cat named, Poof, who had a bump on the bridge of her nose in between her eyes. The vet missed it when they spayed her  so my dad took her back in and asked about it. The vet said he could have taken it out during her surgery and didn't want to put her under again so he lanced it and asked my dad to put Vaseline on it to keep it open and apply pressure until whatever was in there oozed out.

On Sunday my step-mom was holding Poof and my dad was applying pressure when all of a sudden they heard "klink" on the floor. My dad looked and found that a bb pellet had come out of poor Poof's head!! Some *%&#^@ person was using this cat as target practice!! Then my dad said when he tried to take a picture of her, the cat flew into another room when she saw the flash, and did the same thing when she heard my step-mom pop open a cork on a bottle of wine. So obviously this pellet incident was not the first time a gun had been shot at her.

I'm not naive and I know people mistreat animals, but to know a personal story like this just makes me so angry at some humans (if they can even be referred to as humans b/c they really are slime). I'm glad my dad and step-mom are nurturing her back to mental and physical health.

Your dad and step mom sound like great people with huge hearts. Poor kitty, that stuff makes my blood boil.

That is so horrible. That cat is lucky that someone wanted it saved and that is really nice that your parents take in animals.

How awful...that kind of stuff makes me sick.

My DH warned me about our local Weimaraner rescue website having a very graphic story and pictures on it right now of a Weim who had been horribly mistreated. I had to go to the website to find out some info about adoption fees and spent 30 minutes sobbing after reading about Dustin and looking at his pictures. I had to immediately go to the healthy weim pics, up for adoption to console myself some. DH and I are definitely writing a check to help out this poor baby!

Warning! These pictures are graphic!

I didn't go to that web site. I have a hard time looking at mistreated animals. Every now and then they have news stories about people who engage in dog fights and I can't watch that either.

Below is the one picture of Poof that my dad took before he realized she was afraid of the camera flash. I'm amazed that you can't even tell where the pellet was (this was after it fell out).

Oh, poor baby! I'm so glad she's getting the chance to be around good people and hopefully she'll lose some of her fear. That's just so sad. :(

My sister's cat, Mama Kitty (she adopted her when she'd had a litter of kittens at a job-site my sister was on, hence the name), was horribly abused. My sister lets her cat go outdoors. I completely disagree with this, but it's my sister's choice (she makes lots of choices I don't agree with). Well, one night Mama Kitty didn't come back home, and my sister was worried. But she went to sbed thinking that maybe she'd just decided to stay away. When she woke up the next morning, she found Mama Kitty on her doorstep, covered in blood. She rushed her to the emergency vet, and they treated her. She had lots of cuts, and she was missing half of her tongue. The vet said that it couldn't have been a car accident or anything. The vet told my sister that he believed some sicko had deliberately cut up her poor kitty. What the hell is wrong with people?!? Mama Kitty almost didn't pull through, she'd lost so much blood. But she's alive and well now. My sister, stupidly, still lets her go outside (declawed  ), but she doesn't seem to leave the back yard.

Lots of love going out to Miss Poof, and to your parents, who are true examples of what people ought to be. Ans lots of love going out to that poor, starving dog in Texas, who has finally found a home, a family, and love.

MLA ~ I'm glad Mama Kitty is okay! How sad for her. :( I don't agree with your sister on that aspect either. I hope Mama Kitty stays in their yard.

Thank you all for the kind thoughts about Poof.

Poof is a cutie!

MLA - is Mama Kitty a black cat? Is there a reason why someone would be singling her out for abuse? Poor cat needs to be an inside cat. :(

Yes, she definitely needs to be an indoor cat, but my sister's sort of an idiot sometimes. No, she's not a black cat. She's actually a very sweet little long-haired tortoise shell w/mostly orange coloring. She's beautiful!
