hi all...i think this is my first post in parenting (WC or CC)!

i have my first prenatal appointment tomorrow...i'll be 10 weeks.

we did IVF and i'm pregnant with twins, so i've already had a couple of ultrasounds and weekly bloodwork, but i was wondering what goes on at the first appointment?

will i have an u/s (external? internal?)? bloodwork? pelvic exam?

thanks!

At my first prenatal appointment (10 weeks) I just met with a nurse. She just took my weight and BP, took a detailed family history so they could determine if there was anything they wanted to watch for, she talked about the importance of nutrition and told me what to expect at my monthly appointments, etc. IIRC, I think she also gave me a pass to the lab for bloodwork and told me they wanted me to get that done before my next appointment with the OB/GYN. I didn't see the doctor at all, but it might be different for you since you are carrying twins and used IVF. I remember being so disappointed that I didn't get to listen to the heartbeat or have an ultrasound at that first appointment. :(

At my first prenatal appointment with the doctor (12 weeks - he doesn't see anyone before then  ), they took my weight and BP again. Then the doctor did an internal exam and said that would be the only internal I would have until the end as long as everything progressed well and "normal." We also listened to the heartbeat, which was so cool. I never had an ultrasound until 20 weeks.

My first appointment was around 8 weeks and was an ultrasound to date the pregnancy and confirm the pregnancy was viable. I then had a meeting with the doctor (new OB, never met before) where he took family history and gave me some reading materials and dos and don'ts and I got my prescription for prenatals.

My next real appointment was at 12 weeks, where I had an internal with pap smear. Pee in a cup, weight, BP, I think I had a blood draw too. They also did a quick ultrasound in the office so DH could see the babe and we could get a picture. Also I asked if we could listen to the heartbeat, we did but it was pretty hard to make out.

I had my first prenatal appointment when I was 8/9 weeks along. I had an internal, they took my history and DH's medical history, I had a ton of bloodwork done, weight checked, and he told us things to watch out for, recommendations, dos and don'ts, etc. I also had an ultrasound a day later because I had some minor spotting on the weekend.

Before I forget, Congratulations on your twins!

At my first appointment, we did blood pressure, weight, urine test and was sent to the "second waiting room" to get undressed. We did an u/s to see our childs h/b (I was 8 weeks along) and then they gave me a packet with hospital registration information, and nutritional information. I also was given samples for my prenatals and a script.

That was all- and pretty much remained the same until I hit 34 weeks, where I started having internals.

Good luck with your pregnancy!
