I want to know what you think is cute for fall. Specifically, what are you buying (or what do you want to buy) and how will you wear it? I'm excited to see what the resident fashion gurus have in mind for cooler weather...

I'm excited about the emphasis on navy and the classic/menswear inspired work clothes. BR has several things I'm jonesing for:

High-waisted pencil skirt

plaid

I love these shoes from J Crew. I'll buy them once they're a little cheaper

I just bought this, also from J Crew

Now it just needs to get cold enough so that I can wear it!

I'm wondering if I should wear my boots inside my pants. Is this a legitimate trend, unlike ponchos for example? I don't want to feel dorky if I do ya know?

I love those J Crew shoes! Cute sweater too!

gokatgo, I like the menswear look too. I hadn't thought about navy though. I'll have to check out BR!

ginastorm, I like those shoes! I can't wait for "sweater weather" either.

I like the look of knee-high boots with wide-leg capris or gauchos. Is that still ok to do? I found a cute pair of brown plaid capris that I want to wear with brown knee-high boots. What do you think?

Ginastorm, I like those shoes a lot. http://www.jcrew.com/images/nov299/emstyle/78528_BR6526.jpg

I have a little wish list for fall. I've kind of decided to only really buy investment pieces rather than cheap stuff (unless it is super trendy). My list is:

knee high black boots
tweed skirt
a nice work dress
black ankle boots with a stacked heel (I work where I walk on bricks a lot so heels can be hard!)
diamond studs (to replace my CZ pair)

I have a lot of other things I'd like but the wallet does not keep up with the wants.... :( (I actually have a $1,000 wish list on Nordstrom's site right now -- Ahhhhhhh!!!) I love fall clothes -- can't wait!

Speaking of navy...how do you wear it? I steer clear of the whole color just because I am NEVER sure what shoes to pair with it!

Beige, brown, camel . . .

I'm bummed to see summer end, as I like warm-weather dressing much more than cold-weather dressing! But, for fall, I have a few clear ideas:

--A red dress of some sort (probably a darker red, and hopefully in a sweater knit).
--My big shoe purchase: Going to drop some $$$ on a serious pair of black platform ankle boots. Also, a less expensive pair of stiletto-heel ankle booties.
--I'm going to attempt the dreaded leggings. Under some fall-oriented dresses. I'm still liking the kimono-sleeve dress, so I'm going to try and grab a couple in darker shades (gray, whatever else I can find).
--Gray skinny jeans.
--Black tights with everything else.
--Going to keep using my gold handbag from summer, and try to get a pair of muted gold pumps to go along with it.

Can't wait for Fall! I probably won't do much shopping this year, but plan to invest in a couple of pieces:

Pencil skirt & tailored blouse

http://www.clubmonaco.com/082006/images/w1.jpg

Classic cashmere sweater

http://www.jcrew.com/images/newshots2004/main305/72258_BL8149_SU06_m.jpg

Boots (I'm thinking about some ankle boots this year-- or maybe the slouchy boots?)

http://a1216.g.akamai.net/f/1216/955/6h/images2.nordstrom.com/ImageGallery/store/Product/MediumLarge/8/_5257168.jpg

Also, some gold link necklaces and maybe a new pair of jeans if I can fit it in the budget. Question: I'm seeing argyle sweaters in stores. Is argyle always good for Fall, or is it very last year?

Oooh I would love to see some ideas. I want a red dress too and the only one I really like came from Wet Seal so I passed.

Ginastorm - I love that sweater color!

The pants in boots thing was HUGE here last year. So yes, I think it's a trend that will be around for a while. You need to get 80's jeans to fit in them (ie. tapered and tight).

Polka dots are totally in this year. As anything 1950s. Better yet, polka-dot 1950s stuff, not necessarily vintage though.

I LOOOOOOOOVE shopping for fall! This year I am thinking the usual:

Long lines
Bootcut denim & twill pants with mid-rise waists (just below the navel)
Extra-long sleeved shorts & sweater with v-neck or scoop-U-necks

And in the colors of chocolate, jewel tones & watery blues and blue/greens.

I love this red cashmere sweater dress (from Bergdorf Goodman) but it's super $$$.

I am in need of new footwear.

Black leather boots
Brown leather boots
Brown embossed leather pumps
Brown flats of some sort, maybe in dark chocolate suede

I also need a few cashmere sweaters and jeans. I need 2 pairs, one hemmed for wearing with flats, the other for heels.

I am splurging on a watch this year. I have been looking at cartier, chopard and ebel.

Plaid - I bought a vintage round collar blazer that's super cute. It looks like the Gwen Stefani L.A.M.B. plaid stuff. I'm super psyched on it.
Footless tights - I'm going to wear them under a few tunic dresses I have, and I'm thinking of getting a black short skirt to pair with them for my oh-so-many nights out.
Long knits/layering - I really want a long black sweater vest or belted cardigan.
I also want to get a black turtleneck and wear it under a couple dresses I have.
belts - I'm hoping to use belts to add a little color to my all black work wardrobe, and make those long shirts look a little more dressed up.
Red - I bought a cute little red top over ebay, but it hasn't shown up yet!

I'm going to try some leggings here and there, too. I am not nuts about hte ankle boot but it certainly seems to be showing up everywhere with dresses, skirts, you name it, so I may pick up a pair in black

So far I have purchased a classic black Diane von Furstenburg wrap dress for fall. I love it and think that I can wear it forever. I am going to continue to use my Coach bag (the blue and tan pattern) from the summer into fall but will probably switch it out for the winter months. For other shoes I have a pair of peep toe platforms but am looking for a pair of suede peep toe pumps with the platform on the inside.

There are some great looks out there! Shopping is way too fun:p

Thanks PurpleRose, ivansbabe, & skraus75 for the compliments on the shoes. I've been a bit obsessed with them; I check J. Crew's website daily to see if they are on sale! $118 is a bit too much for me for a pair of flats.

ITA about the price of their shoes. They're nice and well made, but come on!
An FYI on J Crew shoes: I've noticed that they tend to run a 1/2 size big, so I size down the same amount and they're fine. You may want to try them on beforehand :)

Another quick question. I like the look of sweater dresses but how do you not have it stick to your legs (and hike up!) while wearing stockings/tights of some kind? I would think wearing a slip would show through since the dress is supposed to be a little clingy.

So far, I want:

Animal print flats (preferrably leopard)
Peep toe pumps - I can't seem to find the right pair
Black boots, ankle length

Hmmm, all shoes so far, I have no idea what clothes I want yet. :p

I can't help with the sweater dress question, but thanks for the heads up about J. Crew's shoes. Unfortunately, the nearest J. Crew store doesn't sell shoes. I'll remember that when I do buy the shoes.

I really like the kimono sleeve tops and dresses! I can't seem to find anything with the right fit, though.

I bought this dress from Ann Taylor Loft. I love the color and the vintage feel. I'm going to wear it with black suede peep-toe platforms.

http://s7ondemand1.scene7.com/is/image/AnnTaylorLoft/146172_1241?$outfit$

I also got these shoes, but in black leather. They are so cute and low-key! Haven't worn them yet though. I hope I don't get blisters. ETA: The shoes came from Nordstrom, not ATL.

I am looking for a cute pair of khakis. I want wide-leg (I would take flares or bootcut if they fit ok), but most of what I've seen is straight or tapered. Can you guys help me find something cute?

My fall purchases so far are a pair of brown suede shoes from Cole Haan and a navy color nautical influence belted sweater jacket from Banana Republic. I am loving this fall's fashion.

So far, I have only purchased 2 pairs of boots, one brown suede on a wedge heel and black leather.

I am thinking about getting a few items made this year, a gray tweed dress and a bottle green cropped jacket.

I also need a new bag, I just realized my navy and cognac tote looks funny with my fall browns!
