It is possible that my husband and I will be going to Denmark with our daughter- who will be almost two- next August for a wedding. I just wanted to start to get ideas about things to do out there, places to go...
I've travelled a lot, but know pretty much nothing about Denmark- has anyone been there?

I have been to Denmark, but only once. We stayed at the mid to lower west coast for a week near Ringkobing Fjord. We have been to Ribe which is Denmark´s oldest small town. That was quite cute. Apart from that there was mostly nature to enjoy in that region and you could take beautiful walks along the beaches and in the woods.
We plan to take another vacation to Denmark somewhen in the next years and I would love to do some island hopping. Fyn must be beautiful and has lots of castles to visit, beautiful small towns and things like Hans Christian Andersen (wrote famous fairy tales) Museum. The chalk cliffs on the island Mon are very famous. And everyone says that Bornholm is a very beautiful island. Most of the Danish islands are connected with bridges but for some of them you have to take a ferry (like Bornholm). Apart from that I would want to visit the capital Kopenhagen and its famous Tivoli (a fun park). And visit the Little Mermaid Statue in Kopenhagen. Generally Denmark is a very child-friendly country and it´s very popular among Germans to go to Denmark with small children. That´s all I recall so far about Denmark. :)
I was born and raised there. Where about in the country would you be going? There are several really nice spots and as the PP said it is a very child friendly country, even public transit is great when traveling with a stroller as many busses (coach style, quite comfy and a/c) are setup to lower to street level at stops and have a large space where you can park the stroller.
There is also Legoland, which is a large amusement park made with LEGO. This park is especially good for smaller children and is located right next to one of 3 international airports (Billund). If you have the chance I would recommend going to Skagen, which is at the very tip of Denmark. This city is beautiful and unlike any other I've ever been to.
If you have any specific questions I would be more than happy to answer them.

I love Copenhagen. It has an international cosmopolitan feel without beeing too big. Copenhagen is filled to the brim with things to do; Tivoli (amusement park), lots of museums (I especially like Glyptoteket) and fab shopping.
Helsingör is also nice. It has a lot of beautiful old buildings and narrow streets to wander. And the castle that Shakespeare based Hamlet on is there. It is beautiful and has a great view over the water and Sweden just 20 minutes away.
I second Skagen and Legoland. Legoland would be great for your daughter.
I have also heard that Aarhus is supposed to be really nice. I've never been there though. Bornholm is also nice but that might be too far (it's an island off the Swedish coast actually).
Depending on where you are you might want to do day trips to either Germany or Sweden.
Denmark is very accessible and easy to get around. Public transportation is good and people are very friendly and open.

Thanks, Ladies!
I'm really happy to know that Denmark is so child friendly.
I actually don't know where the wedding would be - MSH, when I find out I will contact you, thanks!
Oh, another question - I'm a vegetarian (no meat, fish, poultry at all). Should I be prepared for a challenge when going to restaurants out there? What is the cuisine like, generally? I know that when I was in certain areas of Germany and even in Paris I found it really difficult to find places to eat...
