I was about to ask the same question, we are still thinking about it, and it seems like we are getting at lease one brochure a day about it. All the advertisement that we are getting for babies, is driving me crazy already.

Thanks for the new thread!
cord bloodI think that we are not going to bank cord blood. I have kind of mixed feelings about this.
rancid I love the new bedding choice.
sex I am often in the mood in the middle of the day but by evening I'm too exhausted. I've been feeling a bot guilty about this actually.
name I think we have a name but we're kickimg it around a bit still.
name question are you telling people IRL the name? I had some friends warn me against this and I'm wondering what you think. Friends have told me that they told some people the name they had picked and got negative comments on it which made them feel bad. Or, the other person would be upset saying they really like the name and wanted to use it for their kid.

names We still have no name and are playing with the idea of not telling anyone what we decide, not because of comments but for fun.

I had my dr.'s appt. today and everything is measuring right on schedule. My doctor was a few minutes late for the appt. because she was delivering two babies this afternoon. I've really enjoyed having appointments with her in the afternoon b/c she seems to be really relaxed and in a good mood about the end of the day. :)
cord blood - We are not going to do this. Neither of us have any family history that would lead us to think this would be beneficial for us to spend the money. I looked into donation but my hospital discontinued their program.
sex - With the cerclage and early spotting I've had...let's just say it's been a loooong time. There are times (afternoons, mid-morning) that it sounds like a great idea, but by 10:00 at night all I want to do is snooze.
names - We are not telling anyone IRL the name. I never thought I would get so much flak about it from our mothers!! They bug me about it everytime I talk to them! It's kinda fun! :p The name that we are 98% sure we are going with is: Charlotte Faith. But, shhh! Don't tell my mom! ;)

Names - I think we have our name finalized...I should say my DH does. I like the name but I am one that has to consider everything, not that I am considering anything else right now but the name will probably be Grace Elizabeth. My husband just came up with that one day and has been calling her that and it's growing on me. Elizabeth was my grandma's name and is my mon's middle name so that part does have significance. I did tell one close friend and she had the reaction, Pacificbliss mentioned about that was going to be her daughter's name if she has another. It didn't really bother me. It just reassured me that it's a nice name. I think it woudl be fun though not to tell everyone but I think people will just keep driving me crazy with the question. For now, I jut say we haven't decided.
Sex - Ha..not in a long time!
cord blood - I haven't really thought about it to be quit honest. How much does it cost?

Cord blood-We did it with our DD but will not do it with this pregnancy since I as understand it, that original cord blood can be used for subsequent siblings as well as the original child whose cord the blood came from. I think the original cost for us was $1600 with a minor yearly storage charge coming into play after 18 years. For us, we did it just as a peace of mind thing but I know there are threads on this site that give mixed reviews on whether it's really necessary or whether it's just playing on parents' fears.
Revealing the name-Nope! Last time, whenever we talked about a name, everyone gave their input and really, I got tired of negative comments and my SIL making faces. :rolleyes: We didn't reveal the names until the chidlren were born and by then it was more of an introduction like "Alexandra Hope was born on May 26" as opposed to "Her name will be Alexandra Hope" and having people give us thier opinions which we really didn't give a crap about.
Also, with technology being able to reveal so much about the baby from the sex to the size to the scheduled c-section or induction date, we wanted something that would be a surprise.

Katmg and sunshine I love your names.
cord blood We have decided not to do it, we have no reason to think we should everyone in the family has pretty great health.
Nursery Furniture I was being noisy and overheard a convo, about furniture, they were saying that there is no reason to buy expensive furniture the baby doesn't know what its sleeping on etc or what it has in its room ...
SO i was thinking...
How much is too much on Nursery Furniture to you guys?
We are spending about $850 but we are getting the 3 in 1 sleigh crib, and a dresser(which is a changing table too) with a armoire.
I just think thats awesom that this furniture can grow up with her, i def dont think this is too much to spend if it does all that.
Oh yea .... im subscribing.

Nursery Furniture - For us, we are not doing a crib that is convertible. We just want to be able to use it as a crib for this baby (and any future babes) and then get rid of it. So our idea of how much to spend is probably lower than those that are doing "forever" beds. We are also planning on doing a regular dresser and attaching a changing pad to it - so that doesn't need to be a "nursery" piece. Same thing with the bookshelf - not a "nursery" piece. The big-ticket item in our nursery will be the glider and ottoman.
Thanks for the compliments on the name!

nice new thread!
names i love all the names!! we haven't really started on this. Well, just a little here and there, but nothing really serious. DH is more traditional than I am, so I have a feeling it will be tough picking out things. Both sets of grandparents are interested though. I don't think we'll have two out (one girl, one boy) by Dec though. We want to see what the baby looks like before we pick.
nursery we're not going to be spending much. Like katmg the crib will not be our forever furniture. we're both students so there is no way we could afford it now anyways. I think for a crib and changing table we'll spend around $200. I really wanted to get a dresser instead of a changing table, but I wanted to buy a real dresser instead of just a particle board dresser. we couldn't find any that we liked that were in our price range. :( Been checking the garage sales though.
cord blood i don't think we'll do this. who knows though. hasn't really been discussed
sex its on and off for me. i'm so tired at night and just want to sleep which doesn't help the situation. and dh is so tired in the morning. go figure. :rolleyes:
circumcision since we have a lot of boys in this group, i was wondering what everyone thinks about circumsizing their boys. we're trying to figure out what we'll do and whether there are advantages or disadvantages for doing this if we have a boy.
allison this is a thread behind, but a yoga retreat sounds awesome!! wish we had that in our area. i feel really good after my yoga class last night...
hope everyone else is doing well!!

furniture We are still shopping, we are on a tight budget so I am hoping to find some bargains.

furniture~ Well I just added up all the furniture we're looking at getting, and we're nearing $1400 for all of it. DH has said that nothing but the best will do for DS, so I'm going along with that (considering he's the one paying for it all). This includes the lifetime crib, an armoir, a long low dresser/changing table combo, a tall dresser, a toy box/chest, and a glider + ottoman. We're planning on only having 1 child, so a multi-use crib was the best choice for our situation as we're not planning on reusing a crib for multiple babies. And the room furniture will last a long time, if not forever. :)
circumcision~ We're 100% sure we're having our DS circumcised shortly after birth at the hospital. I've never seen/been around an uncircumcised fellow so I don't know what one looks like or the hygenics involved, but DH grew up with a few guys for whom the 'natural look' was a source of ridicule and shame from their peers. We don't want our boy to go through a similar embarrassment, so it was pretty much DH saying "he is going to be be circumcised, period" and me agreeing to it. No argument there. :eek:

cord blood... I think we're going to just donate the cord blood and not store it. It's a pay it forward kind of thing for me.
names... we're naming him Tyler Keene. We've already told my family and some friends and they all really like it (not that they have a choice).
circumcision... we're going to have him circumcised. We never really debated the advantages/disadvantages. It's just something we're going to do. I probalby should make more of an informed decision but gut instinct is what I'm going with on this one.

Cord Blood Nope. Just doesn't seem worth the money to us given the low odds of us needing it. I am going to try to look into donating it, but I seem to recall that only a limited number of hospitals are even able to assist you with this.
Names Still haven't started that conversation yet. I generally would prefer to keep the name under wraps until the baby's birth, but with DD my DH started telling some people ahead of time.
Circumcision Most likely our DS will be left intact. My DH is intact and FWIW, he was involved in athletics throughout high school and college, so was in many a locker room situation and said he never ever heard a single comment or felt at all strange being uncircumsized. In fact, he laughed when I brought it up because he said all the guys he knows generally do all they can to avoid looking at each others' stuff. Moreover, I remember reading that more and more babies are being left intact (I think it was somewhere around 40% in the US, but don't quote me on that), so by the time our boys are older, it will be totally normal. For us, since we have no religious or cultural ties that compel us to circumsize and since we see no medical reason to do so, it just seems to be an uncessary procedure.
Nursery Furniture We got good quality furniture for DD--not super expensive, but a brand that was given a high rating for quality by Baby Bargains (that was my bible when shopping for DD's gear!). We've been happy with it, so we plan to get the same crib we have for DD for DS. (Since DD's crib is convertible, she will still be using it a while longer.) DS will probably be in our room for the first 6 months or so, but DD and DS will eventually be sharing a room--we have a 3-bedroom, but one of the rooms needs to be my office since I work from home. So, we won't be buying too much more for the room beyond the crib. We already have a bureau/changing table, so we may just try to squeeze in another bureau or armoire and then invest in a closet organizer to maximize the closet space. I also need to get some book shelves and/or some form of storage boxes for DD's books and toys.
I do think it's very easy to get sucked into the idea that you have to spend a lot of money preparing for baby. If you want to and it makes you happy, then go for it. But, if you don't have the money or want to spend it elsewhere, then certainly your baby won't feel neglected on the basis of their room decor or whether their diapers are being carried in a top-of-the-line diaper bag!
I've gone to a couple prenatal yoga classes and am loving them. They're so relaxing and really help me to slow down and de-stress a bit. It's also fun to see and chat with all the pg ladies. Interestingly enough, most all the women there--unlike our thread members--are expecting girls.
I have been feeling pretty tired lately. During the day I have energy to chase after DD, and I still feel great running (though I get plenty of weird looks), but by 10 pm, I am ready to crash!

Loving the names Ladies!! All good choices in my opinion! :)
Furniture - We spent $1600 (CDN) on our convertible crib and dresser/change table combo. The dresser isn't nursery-like and the crib turns into a bed, so we're hoping they'll last through her first 10 years.
Circumcision - Obviously a non-issue with us right now but just thought I'd mention that my hubby is intact, looks great ;), hasnt' been teased and has no medical problems as a result so if we have a boy, we will be leaving the little guy as is.
Great new thread!

Busy thread this morning
furniture we're going to go look at cribs and dressers again this weekend. We want a convertible crib and a regular dresser. We'll see....
circumcisionWe're not going to circumcise.
name we're still kicking it around. We won't tell anyone IRL but I'll probably tell all of you when we're 100% sure. :) We both love the name but we're giving it some time. I love all the names so far!
polydactylcat
08-16-2006, 01:12 PM
The names are really beautiful - we aren't sharing with IRL folks, we kept it a secret the last time to avoid the peanut gallery commentary and we'll probably stick with that. We had enough people make "unusual" comments after our daughter's birth to begin with. We're tossing ideas around as well, but the ball is kind of in my court as I'm the one that has to come up with a list of Japanese names (our kids have Japanese first names, American middle names). I have a front runner, but am afraid to bring it up because I really like it and am afraid of it being shot down!
Cord Banking - we didn't do it last time. I did, however, donate it for research. The hospital offered that option for free and I figured that if I wasn't going to bank it and it was otherwise going to be thrown away, might as well donate it.
Circumcision - still hasn't been discussed. Husband is not intact but when we discussed it before, it didn't seem like it was anything that he felt strongly about so we'll do some more research on it and go from there. I'm inclined to leave the little man alone.
I wish we could hurry up and decide re: the nursery. We have all the furniture from Aiko, but we still have to decide what color to paint the walls! Primer white is not an option :)
So excited to hear about everyone's names and nursery decisions. The bedding in the last thread was really fun to look at!

Cord blood I donated the cord blood last time to a local hospital and I will probably be doing it again.

circumcision -yes, we are going to do this. We did with both of my DS's and will do it with our new DS too. I was ok either way but DH felt strongly about it.
Cord blood - we will not be doing this. No particular reason except it is very expensive and definately not in our budget.
Names - We haven't really even started this too much. I threw out a couple names I liked to DH and he didn't like them (Gavin and Adam). We'll have to start at square one!
Has anyone else been having BAD heartburn? I get this every day and it is usually worse by late afternoon and evening. Sometimes, it even keeps me up at night. I have also still been extremely tired and my belly is getting huge. It's starting to get a little hard to tie my shoes......let the fun begin.
Delaney21
08-16-2006, 06:21 PM
Circumcision - I told DH he could pick and he wants to get it done so DS looks like daddy. I think that's a crappy reason, so we're still discussing it. I just found a study that said only 55% of boys circ'ed, so its pretty even.
Cord Blood: We aren't going to do it.
Furniture - this was our splurge. We are pretty much going cheap with everything, except the furniture. I think we paid about $1300 for the crib and 1 dresser. We are still planning on getting another dresser ($650) or a night stand ($250). My vote is for the night stand right now.
Names: We've had our name picked out since the first week I found out I was pregnant. His name is Mitchell, but we haven't decided on a middle name yet.
Heartburn: The only time I get heartburn is when I lay down, so I try not to eat for a few hours before laying down and that seems to help.

I have my next ob appt tomorrow; I'm wondering if she's going to bring up the "10 movements in 10 min" thing or if I should?
I've been feeling him move around in there for about the last 3 weeks. It's usually down low, below the belly button area. Sometimes it's on the right, sometimes on the left and sometimes in the middle. It varies constantly, as do the feel of the movements themselves. Sometimes it feels like a kick, sometimes like a flicking motion, sometimes a tapping, sometimes like popcorn popping, and other times like a rolling motion (ie: somersaults?). :)
pacificbliss
08-17-2006, 10:10 AM
I usually feel the movement down low. The movements seem pretty random though, I don't know if I could stop for 10 minutes and feel 10 movements at any given time.
Good luck at the u/s tinkerbelljenny! Report back ASAP.:D

Rancid- well my doc appt was monday and he basically asked if she was moving and i just laughed a little, figuring he could see for his self, he got out his doppler and it took him like almost 5 min just to get it were she wouldnt move, he would find it and she would move, it kept going like that, he said shes a active little thing . That is when he told me about the movements, and if i dont feel her as much as i do another day to call immediatly she could be in distress, etc he was pretty serious about the test thing, I would def ask your doc. abotu it, ask if there are any more tests too, since i just though about it if you dont mind, It seems like once she moves like 8 times she wont give me 2 more little brat then when i give up she really socks it to me. But its seems like we have the same movements, does your stomach jump too, in one little spot?
Tinkerbell- Cant wait to hear back from your U/S.

I have never heard of this but I am going to see if the baby does this. My friend who is due in October has been told by her doctor since about 22 weeks to keep a log of the baby's kicks. But she is also considered high risk.
Still waiting to go to my appointment!

I haven't started but I did do them with my daughter around 30 weeks.
Usually Dr's don't bring it up unless you are worried about movement and even with that usually you shouldn't start doing it until you are into the 3rd trimester because there can be other issues such as an Anterior placenta that can prevent the mother from feeling the baby move earlier in pregnancy.

He did'nt tell me to keep a log, but he just said if movements are off to call immediatly. I know he tells everyone that, i have a friend who sees him and she is due in Sept. and were not high risk at all. Maybe he just tells us to give us something to do in between appts. :)hehe

Movement Madison has been moving like crazy. I can lay at night and just watch my belly roll. Dh has a harder time seeing it. A freind told me to put something on my belly(remote, etc). I put the cordless phone on it and he could definitely see the phone jump when she kicked it. So much phone.
My next appt is in 2weeks. I am interested to see if she says anything about counting movement.
Sex I wasnt in the mood at all until the last month. I have been more so, but now DH is kind of freaking a bit. He says it weirds him out that their is another person there. Anybody else have a DH with this reaction?
Name Once we found out what we were having we just announced "Her name is Madison Kay". No questions asked.
Cord Blood We will not do this.
Internal Check Has anyone had interbal checks since their first appt? Wondering what to expect at the next appt. I will be 24+ weeks.
Nursery We have the bedding and furniture but I cant decide on the wall color. UGH! My IL's are wanting to come to paint this weekend.

That's funny! Mine likes to move around nonstop until I tell DH to feel, and as soon as his hand is there all movements stop. And I usually have my own hand on my belly to feel so it's not like suddenly the pressure of his hand makes baby decide to stop moving. There have definitely been a few instances where my stomach jumps (like little pops), it's so weird and fun to watch!

Congratulations tinkerbelljenny! Another one for team blue!
Internal checks: Mine didn't start until my appointments were 2 weeks apart in the 3rd trimester - that was to start checking the position of the cervix.
Movement: There is definitely someone in there kicking around, usually down low. It happens at all different times of the day, although more when I'm trying to sleep. My husband felt the baby kick completely by accident one evening when he went to give my stomach the customary pat goodnight - he was very excited because we've never been able to convince the baby to kick or be active when his hand was there before!!
Funny that you mentioned that the baby kept moving around on the doctor's appointment Chris'slady, mine always moves around in there and makes it difficult for the doc to find and track the beats too. I swear the kid tries to kick the doppler too, because we always her this big "thud" before he moves away.
Congrats tinkerbelljenny!
movement: Stronger kicking and bumping this week, but the little stinkers get quiet whenever DH puts his hand there. I"ve only just begun to be able to feel them from the outside myself.
sex; Well, I'm in a 'willing' stage right now, although my new OB has advised to put such activity on hold until post partum. Very sad for me (and DH) but the doc says it can trigger pre-term labor. He admits he's very conservative, so I'm not entirely sure I"ll be able to follow this advice right now. Maybe at week 30....
furniture: We're mostly recycleing DS's stuff, and we got a crib from someone for twin 2. So, not much to spend except on some decor, if I can ever settle on something.
cord blood: we did this for DS, and are trying to work out if we're going to do it for the twins.
internal check: hmm. Haven't had one in a long time, and didn't have one at my 21 week. (not that I miss it. at all.)
names: we have one picked out for our daughter, but not one for our son.
Oh, did I mention I'm officially a member of teamPURPLE??? Yep, add one GIRL and one BOY to our count. YEAH!!
I like my new doctor a lot (aside from his being so careful on the other issue). He spent over an hour with me. I also really liked the hospital that he delivers at. Finally, we are also in our new house, which I love, and will eventually get around to unpacking. I start my new job on Monday, but seriously, it seems like the least of my concerns right now!! (Don't tel my boss.)
ETA: Grrrr. none of the formatting came out. sorry.

Movement: I have been feeling more movement the past two weeks it is so cool. It is like he in in there rolling form side to side, then he just flips over and over. It cracker me up everytime. I really feel a lot of moving at 2-3 a.m. I think this kid is on a reverse schedule :)
Sex: I am willing but not able yet. I talked to my doc about it and he says probably in about 4 -6 weeks. I can't wait :D
Furniture: I am getting exactly what I want, this is possibly our only child so I am really going to enjoy it. We have the convertible crib and the dresser, now I just need to find my rocker and a skinny book case for one corner of the room. I totally forgot about looking for a toy chest, must add to list.:p
Cord Blood: I am planning to donate it to the hospital
Circumcision: We are doing it, cultural reasons first and foremost, then DH is really wanting it done. But the only person I heard mention anything about guys being teased was my Dad, he went to boarding school ( not in the states)and he said that they guys that were not would get teased.:rolleyes:
I went to Kohl's yesterday to look for onsies that were on sale and ended up with about 15 outfits for around $2.50-3.00 each. They were regularly $14.00 all cotton Carter's. They are having some kind of sale with an additional 50% of the clearance price. I had to stop myself and walk away they were all so cute. :D

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I had my 25w ob appt this morning, and all looks well. My measurements are looking good but doc mentioned the weight thing again. Since my last appt, I've been striving to eat better and I've added 30 minutes minimum of exercise per day and I've still managed to gain more weight than was recommended. Go figure! I weighed myself at home this morning at 150 (15lb gain), yet the scale at the dr's office is saying 157. I don't get it.
She also got the results of my 1-hr GTT faxed in while we were there....and I PASSED!!! My blood sugar and my hemoglobin both are at stellar numbers. She also went over the results from my 2nd u/s and the AFP test I had done a few weeks back and everything looks fantastic, basically. She said that whatever I was doing, to keep it up because all looks well. So good news all around today.
My next appt is September 15.
Yeah, it was an orange flavored drink. Normally I hate orange-flavored drinks (but love oj) but it actually didn't taste that bad, kinda like Gatorade, and it was slightly chilled beforehand. It was a glucose test, to make sure my body's processing sugar properly...usually it's done between 24-28 weeks. I'm very happy I passed b/c gestational diabetes was NOT something I was interested in participating in, believe me. After watching SIL deal with it in her pg with my nephew and she was on a very restrictive diet the last few months AND gave birth to an almost-10lb boy as a result of the GD. NO THANKS!! Apparently I am (or was) in a high-risk group for GD b/c I'm 1)over the age of 25, 2)of hispanic/native american background, 3) have (elderly) family members with regular diabetes.
Hey girly-girls. Big shout out to everyone...specific notes to:
Nicole: You look so freaking cute! Love the necklace you wore. WE are definitely about the same size, too.
Rancid: I think your doctor is full of crap. You have only gained 15 pounds...that's NOTHING! I'm up to 24. Remember too, that you are weighing yourself at a different time than at the dr office so it's always going to be different. Just keep up your healthy regimine. (And maybe not so much fast food, but maybe you've already cut back on that.)
***********
I'm sure you remember my freak out when my doctor told me I may have excess fluid. Well, things are pretty much the same. My stomach is rock hard, I have aches and pains both in my lower abdomin and my back, I get out of breath with just the shortest walk. My ankles aren't as swollen as they were but are still balooning up most days. All of this is normal for someone much further along. But I'm just relaxing and trying not stress. I have only 10 more days till my appt and we'll know then. One of the causes of this (polyhydramnios) is gestational diabetes... so I'm thinking that I'll get tested for that soon.
We finally started looking at bedding. There is one at Target that we both like that isn't really a theme but has the colors we like. I'll post when we are more sure. I think we are going to take Labor Day weekend to really shop for that stuff. We need a crib mattress and a changing pad and a chair and the rest we already bought or will register for.
I hope everyone has a restful weekend!
Next Appt: Aug 29th
hey ladies quick question! I want to go to a college football game (GO FSU!) in the last weekend of October.... which i will be about 7 1/2 preggo. DH is concerned about the walk, the noise, the crowd,the seats, and oh yeah "me being excited when FSU scores", any thoughts bout if we should go or just watch the game from home.....
janu I say go for it! I went to a UNC basketball game when I was pregnant with Grace and I did fine and I even had to walk up to the top of the arena because that is where our seats were. You may just want to make sure you drink enough water.
janu go! I went to several football games in various stages of pregnancy and it was fun every time. The last one I went to was in November (was due in December last time as well) and although I was HUGE I still had a blast - plenty of walking was involved (seats near top of stadium) but it was completely manageable and more importantly fun!
janu If you're feeling well, GO TO THE GAME!! noises and excitment will not put you into early labor. Bring a seat cushion, drink lots of water. Besides, once you have the baby, it might be awhile before you get the chance again! (My experience is with baseball games; DS was fine at 6 weeks, so scared we took him home in the 2nd inning at 4 months, and too wiggly to last past the 7th inning at 12 months.)
thanks soooo very much ladies!! We did end up buying the tix (yipee) cant wait to go!!!
On anohter note, what size clothes are you buying for your newborns? I have bought a few outfits and some onezies in the newborn size, but my mom says he will out grow that size VERY fast and that i should buy clothes that are bigger like 3-6 months. So now i am confused..... do i stick with the newborn size or go bigger? HELP!
oooh baby clothes! I just unpacked a big box of DS's old clothes, and honestly I had forgotten just how adorable the teeny outfits are!
Anyway, to answer your question - the problem here is that it totally depends on the kid. DS was 7 lbs 12 ounces and grew quickly, but I was really glad to have NB clothes early on. At first even the NB stuff was too big, so it was nice to have them for a month or two, then he outgrew them. Other babies are small or grow more slowly, so they might be in NB clothes until they are 4 months or so. It doesn't seem like a lot, but I think the babies are more comfortable in clothes that fit them, so having some small stuff on hand is a good idea. BUT, you don't need 50 NB outfits. And frankly, he'll outgrown the 3-6 months pieces quickly too - so you don't want to buy too many of any size (or season!).
I was wondering about this as well. I am also wondering if during the winter I need long sleeve onsies. Or do you just use the sleepers with the feet more? We are in the south but it gets cold here and snows at times. Oh and how do you figure out the size of the socks? They all look sooo small :) (and cute)
Well when my daughter was born all I had was 0-3 month and a couple of newborn sleepers and what I ended up doing was buying a few preemie outfits and sleepers because when she was born she was 6lbs 3oz full term and was swallowed up by newborn and 0-3 month sizes by 6 weeks she fit in newborn sizes perfectly and by 12 weeks she was wearing 0-3 month. So I would get a variety expecially if you have small babies like me.
Nursery - We bought our glider and ottoman this weekend! I ordered it through USA Baby - they were having a sale on their furniture this weekend. We got a 'Best Chair' and picked out a fairly neutral, very scrubbable/cleanable fabric. It seemed like most of the fabrics were either very cleanable and ugly or really cute but dry-clean only. Like I really want to haul my glider into the dry cleaner's. :rolleyes: Anyway, I'm glad that is on order - one more thing to scratch off the list!
We also did a test patch of the paint on the walls and decided to go ahead with it. Now we just need to get a couple of gallons and start painting! Still don't have a crib picked out though. We plan to get that next month but I need to decide which one I like.
Shopping without my family made it much easier on DH and me. We actually had fun this time.
The only problem is we really don't like the dresser that goes with it so we'll have to do some work to find something that's a close enough match in color.
Carissa- I was wondering about your daughter's name since I saw her first name in your sig. I think it's a beautiful name :)
katmg - I did the same this weekend and we purchased one of the Best Chairs, too. I felt the same way about the fabrics but I went with the green/white gingham. My husband actually really liked that and didn't seem too concerned with the longevity of the chair. We are concerned about size so went with one of their smaller chairs so it wasn't too $$$.
clothes - I am trying not to go too crazy but I have gotten some good deals on summer clothes for next summer and am trying to keep the whole idea that babies grow out of their clothes fast in mind. Plus the fact I am sure I'll get outfits for gifts. I can always buy more closer to Dec if I think I'll need more of something.
I also bought the bedding I posted a few posts back from House Inc. I got it from www.laylagrayce.com b/c I found a 10% coupon code online. Hopefully it will come soon! I do have some fabric swatches and although the bedding is mostly pink, I don't want an all pink room so will probably do a green paint to bring out some of the green in teh bedding. I have a bunch of paint swatches but we will probably wait a few weeks before painting so no rush on that rigth now. I still need a rug so will be on the lookout for that since our house is hardwood floors.
janu98 - Like the previous posters, I say the game sounds fun! Although, to me tailgating is the best part and I definitely missed that when I went to a NFL Preseason game last weekend....but it's for a good cause.
Pacific - love the crib. It's funny that you mentioned it being easier without the family with you. I thought I would NEVER find a wedding dress when we were getting married until finally one day I went on my own....and found the perfect dress immediately. It just didn't have 75 unwanted opinions attached to it before I made up my mind. :rolleyes:
janu - I'm glad you decided to go to the game. I think it will be great fun and prepare your munchkin for many more games in the future!
Rancid - so glad to hear about your test! It always feels good to pass, eh? (I'm such a Canadian ;)) That's a relief that you won't have to go on that strict regimen.
Gliders - I'm jealous of everyone who's bought gliders. We have a futon, which is in perfectly good shape so we're going to set it up in the nursery as a couch for late night feedings, which will be fine but it doesn't match the furniture so we've decided to buy a huge brown blanket and throw it over it with some big comfy pillows. It's not ideal but I think it will be practical and will probably look fine.
Clothes - I've been thinking about this too. I'm fairly slight (although fairly tall) but my hubby is built like a lumberjack so I have no idea how big this baby is going to get. I guess I'll just make sure that there are both 0-3 m and 3-6 m clothes available for when she comes home and then we can supplement after that. I can't wait to do all this tiny clothes shopping. I love anything that's wee.
Names - Shawn and I are still mulling over names but we've yet to find another name that we mutually agree on so I'm still thinking that this baby girl will be a Clara. Shawn takes forever to decide about these things though so there may be more updates.
Cloth Diapering - Is anyone planning on cloth diapering? We have an awesome service in our area who come highly recommended and even with the delivery charge they work out to being cheaper than disposables so we've decided to go for it. I'm an environmental engineer so I figure I might as well at least give it a shot and try and do my part. Plus you get to buy such ADORABLE diaper covers!!! I just bought these online last week:
http://www.jamtots.com/images/900.300.3_big.jpg
Can you even stand it? They are so cute. I can't wait to get them. I'd be interested to hear what others are planning to do (or if there is anyone who is already using cloth on their first child).
I guess I forgot that a new thread was started - I was wondering why I had not gotten an email in so long!
Anyway, everything is good - I have my GTT on September 5 (next appointment). I have not had any internal exams and was told I would only need one more, around 8 months, for some test they do. Although I guess maybe they check the cervix with their had more than that, but that doesn't bother me as much.
movement: It is starting to get very strong and very frequent. I see my belly jump all the time. It looks very weird. Suddenly this big bulge just comes out from the inside! I have also been feeling multiple movements at once, like he must be stretching or something.
furniture: We bought all furniture that is intended to grow with the child. We probably want more children in the future, but who knows if it will happen? We figured that we would just go for quality and get things to last. We have bought our crib ($500 - on sale), changing table/dresser ($550 - on sale), matching high dresser ($250 - on clearance), bookshelf ($150), and glider ($450 - on sale). That is the big stuff. I guess it's about $1900. I don't see that as so expensive. I figure the baby should have furniture as nice as what is in the rest of our house. Plus, it helped that our families bought some of it for us!
nursery: We have painted and DH is starting on the closet system now (we are doing Clostemaid). We also installed a dimmer switch. The color is "Christopher Robin's Swing by Disney for Behr. The ceiling is a pale blue - "Cloudy Day" by Behr.
I still need to paint a few murals on the wall (small things), but it is mostly done.
sex: I am glad to hear that I am not alone in having cut way back. We are probably down to once a week or so, which I feel bad about. But it is sort of weird to me. And, since I found out I have a low-lying placenta, I feel a little nervous.
baby shower: Our second shower (it's co-ed) is this weekend up in New York City. I am so excited, but have to spend 9 hours in a car to get there :rolleyes:
names: We are having so much trouble with my MIL. She is actually emailing us lists of names (with middle names) that she likes. Isn't that a bit pushy? So for me, I would rather pick a name and tell everyone. Regardless of what they say, at least it is a done deal and they won't act like we are incapable of naming our child because we haven't picked a name 3 months before I am due!
OK - guess I am caught up. I promise to be back more often!
Hey all. I'm here reading and keeping up with everyone but m/s is STILL kicking my butt. Last time it ended around 19 weeks but this time around I am still going strong at 22 weeks. :rolleyes: All the other fun symptoms are now kicking in too, like loosened joints. I got up from the couch yesterday and couldn't walk because my leg felt like it was dislocated. It happened this morning in my office too. It always comes back within a few minutes but it still freaks DH out. I just shrug it off as another fun side effect along with m/s, heartburn, carpal tunnel and migraines. Oh joy! ;) It's all worth it in the end so just ignore my moaning and nod your head wisely when I'm singing the joys of motherhood in 5 months!
Cloth diapers-I would love to cloth diaper but DH refuses to. I think he still has an image of pins and plastic pants. I've tried to explain the ease of diaper covers to him but he won't even listen. He's caved on too many other issues so I've given in to him on this one. Makes me sad though since I'm a huge believer in save the earth. I just try to be extra diligent with recycling and my own personal consumption to offset all the "poop bombs" that we're throwing into our already overloaded landfills!
Mods-I really need help keeping up with the updates on this thread. I'll do what I can when I'm having a good day but scrolling through the posts looking for info to be updated adds to my nausea.
Cloth Diapering~ Nope, not planning on it at all. My mom actually did cloth diapers with me, but tells me she “learned her lesson” after that and went straight for the disposables for the next 2 kids. Said the cloth diapers were really more of a hassle than they were worth putting up with and she said she had so much laundry to do on a daily basis as a result that the washing machine was being run around the clock. Those diaper covers are cute though!!
Rosa~ I’m loving your nursery furniture!! It’s gorgeous!! Love the paint color too, I can’t wait till DH gets our 2nd room cleared of his stuff so we can start getting it painted and decorated.
Sophia~ I’ve got the loosened joints thing too! Mostly in my knees and hips~it feels like they’re constantly popping or having to be popped. Also my hip joints have been feeling particularly sore lately, on a constant basis as if I’ve been overworking them, which I’m totally not. I get 5-10 minutes into my daily 30-minute walk and my hips feel all achy like they're going to pop out of joint if my strides are too far apart.
Rosa-Your nursery color is so pretty and I love that changing table! We never had a changing table with our son, we just changed him where ever.
sex I guess I never answered this question but we don't have it right now. Matter of fact the last time we had sex was when I got pregnant so it has been a long time. It is the last thing I am thinking about right now.
cloth diapering-I really want to do this but I would still be spending a ton of money on cute diaper covers. I am still looking into it though.
movement-this baby loves to kick me many times during the day. He is either really angry at me or a soccer player.
Big-I look like I did when I was 8 months pregnant last time. People keep asking me if I am having the baby soon. I am getting worried about the VBAC because I have a feeling I might end up with another c/s again.
nursery- We are not having one for this baby, I am a little bummed about that, I would like him to have his own room but there are only two bedrooms upstairs and the other bedroom is downstairs but there is no bathroom downstairs. I think he will have to share the room with my older son which should be interesting. We have the crib in our room so he will be in our room for a while.
Hi ladies! There's so much activity going on in here. It's hard to keep up!
cloth diapering: Nope. My sister cloth diapers my niece and keeps trying to convince me it's not as hard as I think it is but I'm lazy (I can admit it!) and I don't want to do more laundry than I'll already be doing.
nursery progress: We've got DH's old baby furniture all painted with new hardware. It looks great and I bought my mural projector today so I'm going to start on the walls hopefully tonight. I can't wait to get it all put together. I still want to go buy a glider. I'll probably buy a Best Chair like most of you. They're SOOO comfortable!
health in general... I haven't gained much weight which kind of worries me. My dr said it's fine but I feel like I'm doing something wrong because I'm the only one in this thread and of my friends who's this far along that isn't really gaining much. hi ladies!!
cloth diapering i think we're going to try it. Maybe not initially, but we'll certainly try it and see if its going to work. i'm nervous about laundry though since our washer and dryer aren't very new and take forever. i'm not sure we want to invest in a new set right away. But, the covers are super cute. There are so many options, i'm not sure what we'll try, but i'm thinking probably CPF and covers.
rosa cute nursery!! love the colors and the furniture!! wow, your second shower? did you get lots of good stuff?
nursery we got our painted this weekend too. its a nice light yellow. we probably won't be moving furniture around for a while though.
health in general i hear ya, i'm starting to gather pg symptoms too. my carpal tunnel is awful. plus, my back has started bothering me and I haven't really been sleeping well. sandy i'm not so regular either. :rolleyes: i'm trying to keep up with the fiber, but that only helps so much. my weight has been ok, but i'll tell you what...these days its going straight to my butt and thighs. boo.
clothes Can you believe we have not bought a single thing? People have given us stuff and I've looked around but I haven't bought anything. Maybe we'll see after showers and such.
baby showers well, we just moved to San Diego not long ago so I am not sure if anyone here will throw a shower. We are thinking we will end up having an East Coast and West Coast shower. The East Coast one is set for early October. On the West Coast we will either have something here or up in N. CA but it has not been decided yet.
cloth diapers We're not planning on it.
sophiapb sorry you're still having m/s. I hope it goes away soon.
childbirth classes Ours are in November. It's once a wwwk for 2 hrs for 4 weeks. We're also doing a newborn care class on Nov 1st.
A friend of mine had her baby girl Sunday. She's 10 lbs 7 oz!!! In the pictures she looks like she's a month old. This was a homebirth too :eek:
My health in general has been good. I think I have gaines 11 lbs so far. I have no complaints at this point. My next midwife appointment is August 30th.
I've only gained 2 pounds so far. (My scale at home says 6, but still - not much) I was not skinny pre-pregnancy so I had some padding there, but I did ask at my last appointment about the weight gain and my doctor was not at all worried. I am really starting to believe that our bodies are going to gain or not gain what they will no matter what we do. Now watch - next appointment I'll gain 10 pounds! :)
Whoa!! :eek: Just reading that scared me and made my nether regions flinch big time! :eek: Did your friend have GD or any pregnancy complications?? My SIL had GD when she was pregnant w/my nephew and he ended up being over 9.5lbs at the time of birth (vaginal birth, no c-section needed apparently). Big babies also run on her side of the family. Luckily both DH and my families typically have smaller babies, between 5-7.5lbs so hopefully I'll have a small one. :o
mandersald: Thanks for the compliments on the nursery! Yeah, our second shower is Saturday, up in New York. We live far from both families, and I don't want to travel that far in the 3rd trimester, so the showers are both early. We got tons already, at the first one. We already have everything that is suggested for the layette (plus some), our travel sytem, 3 pack 'n plays (we are returning one), our monitor, high chair, baby carrier, several diaper bags, etc. Our families are out of control! And the upcoming shower will be 60+ people!!
weight: I have gained about 15 pounds, according to my scale, but the doctor's is always lower than mine, so it could be a little less. I am just about to start the 3rd trimester and I just read women gain an average of 10 pounds in the 3rd trimester. Hopefully I will be average and that will give me a nice and healthy 25 pound total weight gain. I cannot believe how little some of you have gained! I usually hear more stories of people gaining tons! Guess everyone is really different.
Big babies run in Dh's family too. My nephew was 10 pounds and the rest of the boys were at least 9 pounds. All of my sister in laws on that side including me ended up having emergency c-sections. And all of us have only had boys! So ,as much as I am hoping for a VBAC the odds are already against me but you never know!
I bought my first little outfits yesterday, I couldn't resist! Everything is so cute!
Rancid nope, no GD. Her first was just over 10 lbs too. Actualy, my friends have had a run of 10 lb babies. I have no idea what is going on. The last five babies were 10 lbs 2oz, 9 lbs 6 oz, 7 lbs 8 oz, 10 lbs, and 10 lbs 7 oz. I have to admit that I'm not sure what the average is but only one of those seems like it could be average, the others I think are big.
General: Is anyone else getting hit with with the exhaustion again? It went away for the 2nd trimester, but now that I'm almost in the 3rd, its back! I've had back pain and hip pain since 12 weeks, but it is really bad now. I have a hard time sitting at work all day and sometimes I can't put any pressure on my left leg. I'm a mess!
Cloth Diapers: We are definitely doing cloth. I already have my stash, but I'm adding to it daily. It is very addictive.
Weight Gain: I think I've gained about 15 pounds - it doesn't bother me how much I gain.
Car seats: We are going with the Graco SafeSeat because it can be used for longer, and we are getting the Britax Roundabout. I think we are also going to get a cheaper one for DH's car.
Baby showers: I'm having 3 because my family and friends are spread all over. My first one is Labor Day weekend and my last one is Thanksgiving weekend. My crazy MIL thinks its ok to have my shower a week before I'm due because "its my first baby and I'll have it late anyway". I wish I could tell her to change the date because I know I will be miserable by then!
Showers: I too am having three because of logisitics and becuase I couldn't talk my MIL's friend into NOT having one for me. She's weird.
Exhaustion: Yep, I"m about to hit 3rd trimester and am wiped pretty much any time after 3pm.
Cloth Diapering - Definitely doing it! My daughter was in cloth from 6 months + so we have a healthy medium/large stash already (although some of my pocket dipes are very girly) We are putting together our NB/Small stash now, and I completely forgot how many options there are (this is definitely not the cloth days of old, my mom used cloth on all of us and is amazed at how simple it is these days) and how much fun it is to look! I'm knitting up some wool soakers soon. DH was so iffy about it last time I half expected him to say no this time around. But he really surprised me by being more on board and asking me, "as if there is a choice?!" I think he found the pocket dipes or fitteds with covers to be much simpler than he thought. We're probably going to try to convince the daycare to CD as well, especially because it is only 2 days a week.
Nursery - I think we've finally decided on a set, so I'm taping out the stripes on the walls so we can start painting soon. We decided that there is too much on both of our plates for me to be sewing up a bedding set right now. The walls will mainly be a nice neutral, with bolder stripes toward the bottom. When it is done I'll post photos. Our furniture is such a mish-mosh of various pieces I'm hoping that it wil all tie in together nicely! Rosa, your nursery is coming along so beautifully!
Weight gain - Have no idea what I've gained, my bathroom scale says one thing while the doctor is mute on the subject. Not going to stress too much until something is mentioned, trying to continue to make good choices and exercise regularly.
Names - We're continuing to toss names around. It's family tradition that DH's name gets recycled into the first-born son's name as a middle name so that half of the equation is finished. However, I need to get my rear end in gear and start research more Japanese names for the first name (my DD also has a Japanese first name).
Delaney MILs can be frustrating - first children aren't always late!! Mine was 3 weeks early, and honestly that late in the 3rd trimester it is hard to put on a happy face when all a girl wants to do is (a) get the baby OUT or (b) sit in a pool to alleviate the pressure on the joints. Maybe instead of a baby shower it will wind up being a "welcome baby" party!
Speaking of having parties late in the 3rd trimester, we are planning on having our DDs birthday party on the 16th (one week before I'm due). Needless to say, we won't be having it at the house! There is probably a good chance I won't even be able to be there (in the hospital? giving birth?) so we had to line up emergency people to be on call in case we had to have someone else at the hospital with me. It would completely be a stinker if DH couldn't be there but at the same time completely be unfair to DD if at least ONE of us wasn't at the party! Oi.
Cloth Diapers We used cloth with DD and plan to do the same with DS. I'd encourage anyone who wants to do cloth to not be discouraged by all the nay-sayers--esspecially if they are of our parents' generation. Cloth has come along way. It's really simple, no pins need be involved, and options for diapers are endless. I prefer cloth for environmental reasons (and it's cheaper), but I've found on a practical level that for us cloth has worked better (fewer blowouts and leaks) than disposables.
Weight Gain 15 pounds at my last appointment. I am not going to worry about it too much. I have been eating healthy, am working out almost every day, and was a healthy weight prior to getting pg, so if I gain more than the standard, so be it. I have been getting lots of stares and weird looks when I go for my runs these days. But, as long as I feel ok, I plan to keep up with it because I feel so good after my runs.
Exhaustion I have been needing more sleep lately. I am ok during the day, but when evening hits, I hit a wall.
Baby Clothes and Sizes As PP have said, I'd get some 0-3 months but not too many. My DD was just 6 lbs at birth, so we used 0-3 for a while. But, often people (usually people who aren't recent moms) will get gifts in size 0-3 months, so you probably will have enough from gifts alone for the first couple of months. If lots of your gifts will be from recent moms, then you may get more variety in sizes (at least that was my experience--friends who had young ones bought gifts in sizes 3-6 or 6-9). I'd get mostly 3-6 and 6-9 and then see what you get for gifts.
Big Babies I was freaked out that I would have a monster baby since both DH and BIL were 10+ pounds. Thankfully DD was a petite 6 pounds, but her head was in the 98th percentile--that part was not fun at all (multiple tears AND an episiotomy) nevermind that she was also posterior. I remember when I was PG the first time around, I couldn't even read the word episiotomy without tightly crossing my legs in fear. But, really, it's not as awful as it sounds. It's all true what they say about the fact that the excitement and love you have for your new baby make all the physical issues recede into the backdrop!
Car Seats We have a Graco Snug Ride that we used for DD and were happy with, so we'll use that again for DS in the early months. When he is ready for a convertible, we will get a Britax model. We have a Britax Roundabout for DD and have been very happy with it. So we will either get the same for DS, or if he is a larger baby than our petite DD, we will go with one that has a higher weight limit like the Marathon or one of the newer models (Decathlon or Boulevard).
Cloth Diapers - I never really thought about cloth as an option. I am going to check out the Cd thread. I really have no experience with any form of diapering. Is it better for the baby or people do it to greatly benefit the environment (a wonderful reason)
Nursery - Our furniture is here! Now the room needs to be emptied and painted. I still need to pick our bedding. I am torn b/c I don't know how long I can keep the bumpers and crib skirt on the crib. And I would be really disappointed to remove them at 6 mths now after a year I wouldn't mind so much.
Weight Gain I have not had a weight change since March and that was 5lbs. My doc is not worried so I put it out of my mind. I eat what I want, it just happens that I want fruit aaalll the time. If I could grow melon in my flower beds I would be so happy. Now I have an aversion to lettuce for some strange reason. Fish is not interesting but chicken is OK. Oh and chocolate milk in the a.m. yummy.:D
Exhaustion OK I was so confused as to why I was needing a nap ever afternoon lately. I still have soo much to do, this is not good at all.
Big Babies- I am not really certain how to tell. I was 8.4 and DH was 8.7 and oh so cute :p My brother was 10. My mom had C-sections for both kids. I hope my little parsnip isn't a whopper chopper but hey as long as he is healthy with a average size head I will be cool.;)
Car Seats We registered for the Britax Marathon convertible car seat, but I am not sure if I will use that instead of purchasing an infant seat. My Dad is like we need both. I am like that is expensive to use for a couple of months then discard. So I am undecided. I will probably register for one just in case.
Showers Probably not.
Exhaustion Yeah I am up every 2-3 hours at night to pee I haven't had a good night's sleep in a while.
Names I think we have finally decided on Jonah but it's still up in the air on the middle name.
Weight gain I have no idea if I have gained anything since I lost a lot of weight the first trimester.
Exhaustion~ Though I’m not quite into the third yet, I’ve definitely been hit with the exhaustion/fatigue stick. It got so bad on Friday that when everyone was out of the office, I locked the front office door and lay down on the cot in the back room to ‘rest my eyes’. I slept for the better part of an hour.
Car seats~ We’re getting 2 that we know of. First is the Graco Snugride carseat, and the other is part of a Graco Quattro travel system. This way DH and I can keep a carseat base in each of our cars without having to deal with latching and unlatching. SIL said she has an unused Peg Perego carseat that she wants to give us, but I haven’t seen it materialize yet.
Showers~ I may have answered this one already, I’ve been plagued by pregnancy brain these last couple weeks (and I swore it wouldn’t happen to ME!). I’m having 1 shower that I know of, which will be in a little less than a month. My BFF and mom are co-hosting it at my mom’s house and it will be an “under the sea” theme.
Weight gain~ Probably answered this one already too, oh well. :) According to my doctor, I’m at just over 20lbs gained; according to MY scale (and the one at my mom’s house) which is the one I trust because I weighed myself on it before I was pg, I’ve gained about 15-16lbs. And I swear it’s all in my belly! (see the pictures below for proof!)
Just wanted to drop in some belly shots I took last night...
I'm feeling HUGE these days!! Funny thing is, my belly looks a whole lot smaller when there's clothing covering it. The second I lift my shirt, it suddenly appears to expand itself out! :eek:
This morning I went down to the cafeteria at work for a pancake and there was a new lady at the cash register today. She looked at my belly and said, "Wow you look like you're ready to pop any day now!" :eek: I said, "No, I actually have about 3 months left to go." So she said, "There's no way you are going to make it 3 months, you're so big already!" :mad: I just shut my mouth and walked away. Oh well...
Chris'slady Here are the instructions from the FAQ section re. how to post pictures:
How do I post pictures?
In order to post pictures on these boards, the pictures must be online. For personal photos, they need to be in an online album such as Snapfish.
Note-Shutterfly and Kodak no longer work for photo hosting.
1)Once you have your photos uploaded, open the picture you want to post.
2)Right click on the picture (the full-sized picture, not the thumbnail) and click “Properties.” (On a Mac, CTRL-click or click-and-hold.)
3)Right click on the URL and click “Select All.” This ensures you get the entire URL. Some URLs are longer than show up in the properties box.
4)Right click on the selected URL and hit “Copy.”
5)Come back to your post and a) click the little icon that looks like a mountain and paste your URL into the box that pops up or b) paste the url into the message and place [*IMG] at the very beginning and [*/IMG] at the very end. (Minus the * though)
6)Submit your post
*A note for those who also use LJ-If you are looking for a hosting site that is compatable with both CC and LJ, we suggest www.flickr.com.
HTH!
I had lunch with all of you yesterday and caught up on the group’s progress. I had to drive to Tampa for a meeting and stopped at a Cracker Barrel on my way back. I love my Palm Treo...I can’t imagine my life without it these days. (I’m sure that this indicates that I have serious “connection” issues but, that’s ok with me.)
Exhaustion: Since I have started walking every night, I am feeling less exhausted. My back is hurting less and overall, I feel better. Granted, I can no longer stay up until midnight and was a wreck the other night after 5 hours of sleep due to traveling but, in general, I’m feeling pretty good.
Car Seat: We registered for the Britax infant seat that goes with the Britax travel system. We joined consumer reports after becoming completely overwhelmed at BRU. They seem to like that one. My DH loves that it looks like a race car seat...boys.
Showers: We had one last weekend with my DH’s family, we have one over Labor Day with my family and one last one in November with all of our friends in town. Most of my girlfriends don’t have kids so, it will be fun to see what they come up with. DH’s family got us a lot of good basic needs stuff. I think that we have 5 booger sucker things and 5 themometers now. Luckily, we got very few clothing items. The families plan to go nuts for Christmas buying cute gender specific outfits...it’s killing them to not know the gender.
Weight gain: According to the scale at the local grocery store, I’m up to 22 pounds of total gain. (This means I’ve gained two pounds over the last 4 weeks. Watching my diet religiously and walking has contributed to the grinding halt.) I swear I’m going to wig out if my Doctor gives me a hard time about my weight at my appointment tomorrow. I did indulge in a slice of cake and a few cookies at the shower...and felt guilty about it. I keep looking at my stomach and thinking that it just can’t get any bigger. I feel ginormous already.
Belly shots: Very, very cute. I would agree that we have a really lucky bunch of ladies in here.
Movement: The novelty is sort of wearing off at the baby gets stronger. The cute taps are turning into more aggressive thumps.
Cloth Diapers: Not for us. I did get a twelve pack for a shower gift but, we’re planning on using them for burp clothes. I did read something that said we should rinse the plastic diapers out to prevent human waste seeping into the groundwater at landfill sites...interesting.
Baby clothes: I’m not even going to think about clothes until November. I’m sure I’ll be freaking out then but for now, we’re sort of trying to keep the baby buying hoopla under control.
Nursery: Ours is still filled with junk. The plan is to work on it in September...into October.
Ok, must go back to work now. I’ve been working late for the past couple of weeks trying to un-bury my desk from the pile of projects that are the bane of my existence.
Work- Anyone noticing the beginning of the "she won't be here" push off of projects? I have started noticing that I am getting less communication of what is going on with my latest project since I won't be here during one of the phases. I have some real mixed feelings about it. On the one hand, I'm going to be here through all of the next phase, and dammit this has been my project since last January, I deserve to know what is going on and be involved with decisions. On the other hand, it makes the decision not to come back easier.
I'm realizing that I am going to have to get better about documenting everything that I am doing for my clients so that that I can pass it off while I'm gone. :eek: I will have several projects that will be under construction while I'm gone and if I'm not here to answer questions I want to have everything documented.
I just wanted to share my latest work in the nursery with y'all. I painted a monkey to coordiante with the bedding. I am going to do a tree and a bird too.
Here is the quilt - I based it off of that monkey, but wanted him hanging from a tree:
pediatrician: have you all picked a pediatrician yet? I have not, and I feel like a slacker. I just don't know how to go about it. We moved to the area last year and don't know many people, so I can't really get recommendations. Are you planning on interviewing some?
Work~ We have such a small office that anything I'm not going to be doing pretty much will get done by my boss, coworker, and/or a temp if they so choose to hire one in my absence. I did experience some "she's going to be gone on maternity leave" panic from my boss this morning when he asked this morning if I'd updated our 'office protocol manual' to include instructions for navigating some new software we've gotten since the last time I went out of town. He said "You know, for when you're gone on maternity leave, so I'll know how to access my photos and whatnot?". This, the same boss who PANICS when I leave for a weeklong vacation with 2 months prior notice and with a temp that I spent a couple of days training to help out. :rolleyes:
Rosa~ Adorable quilt and artwork! That monkey is too cute!! He reminds me a little bit of the Shag monkey...
Pediatrician~ At my last ob appt we were given a list of pediatricians and I'm pretty sure I left DH holding it when I used the restroom right after the appt and forgot to get it from him. It must be buried in his car somewhere. Our dr said that when we attend our prenatal classes in October we can also check around with some of the folks there who already had a child/children and see who they recommend and work in tandem with the recommended ped's on the list. I'm not to worried about choosing one, we can always change our minds if we decide we don't like the one we initially choose...
Rosa - could that monkey be any cuter! I wish I had an ounce of artistic ability!
Pediatrician - We haven't thought about it at all. It still seems like we have quite a bit of time to go, but he'll be here before we know it.
Work - They have my replacement all picked out and I'm supposed to start training him this month. I'm actually getting more things thrown at me right now because they want it completed before I leave. At first they told me they would get me set up at home so I could work during my maternity leave - I think they got the hint when I started laughing at them ;)
Rosa- That monkey is the cutest! Great job!
pediatrician-We are using the same one that my son has. When we moved here 3 years ago we just asked around and got recommendations, we live in a rural area so there are not too many to choose from.
work-I work part-time either from home or in the office and I can bring the baby in with me if I want to. My co-worker always brings his dog so why not a baby? It is a really relaxed office.
Pediatrician - I am definitely worried about this one. Besides finding someone on the insurance plan - I am thinking about delaying some of the vaccinations or at least spacing them out a bit further. I imagine I'm going to be a pain-in-the-butt patient for any pediatrician because I'm such a questioner. Anyway, I know it will be a bear to try to find someone who will work with me on the vaccinations. I don't really even know where to start other than my insurance list. :rolleyes:
work... I think my boss is in denial that I'm going to be gone for a few months. He's just pretending like nothing's going on. I tried to bring up the subject again and he changed the subject. We'll see what kind of panic sets in come November.
Mandersald~ Cute belly shots!! You're looking fantastic!! :D
Cramps~ No, none here. But then I've never gotten them at the time of AF either. I'm cursed with the lower-back pain at that time of the month, and have been having some slight lower-back pain issues the last few weeks, nothing to really complain too much about. I just make DH give me a back rub when it starts hurting. He finally bought me one of those shiatsu pads that you hook up to a chair that gives you a nice massage. Love it!! Apparently this back pain thing runs in the family as my mom has told me she had horrific back pain when she was pg with me, my bro and my sis. It hasn't been that bad for me thankfully. :cool:
Weekend plans? My family rented a 4-bedroom condo in Mammoth Lakes, CA (DH and my favorite snowboard/ski resort in the winter~we have season passes) from tomorrow (Sat) thru next Sat. DH and I are going up there Sat-Tues to join them and my brother & his wife & 2yo. We're looking forward to some fresh mountain air, hiking, fishing, swimming in various lakes/rivers/pool at the condo, and whatever else strikes our fancy while we're enjoying a mini-vacation. I can't wait!
Last time we were up there was the first week of April, just about a week after I found out we were expecting. I didn't want to cancel the trip b/c we'd been planning it for a couple months...but I only snowboarded (very carefully I might add) for 3 of the 6 days we were there but it was still fun because during that week they got almost 8 feet of snow.
rosa That monkey is so adorable. You are so good to get started on your nursery. Ours is still a junk room where old computers rest in peace.
Showers I have no idea but I think my family is planning something b/c I had an email from a distant cousin congratulating me on the baby and saying she couldn't wait to see me. I was thinking what the heck is she talking about. :confused: Then I started thinking possible shower. :rolleyes: Technically I am still in the dark
PediatricianAC I totally spaced on this one.:eek: I have no idea how to go about finding one. I got a great recommendation for my OB from a co-worker that was recently prego but I don't want to use her ped. b/c she sounds a little to earthy for my personal taste but it is perfect for her. I have to start looking.
cramps just leg cramps off and on and hip pain from time to time. I feel like I am 99 y/o
Work since I have been home I am quite certain the vultures a re circling my desk. It feels strange b/c I had a lot of projects that were coming up now I have no idea what is going on. I have seen a few of my test projects on TV and it made me kind of sad b/c I have no idea what the final report was b/c I didn't write it. Vent over.... oh well I have bigger fish to fry at this time. :D
Work Well, no maternity leave here (I WAH), so things are the same as always. Very few of my contractors (I manage about 20+ contractors) even know I am expecting since our communication is always by phone or email and not in person.
Pediatrician We will see the same one we have for my DD. With DD, I didn’t start looking into peds until my 8 or 9th month. I got recommendations from neighbors, my OB (I figure he sees tons of women with small kids and probably hears stuff about peds), and the LC who taught our breastfeeding class. They all recommended the same practice, which is just 5 minutes from our house. I interviewed them and was happy, so I didn’t look any further.
Vaccinations I did quite a bit of research prior to having DD and will probably do a bit more this time around. While I tend toward the crunchy on lots of things, my research actually led me to be more in favor of vaccinating than I expected. So, for DD I went largely according to the AAP’s recs although we did not get the Hep B vaccine right at birth but opted to do it at her 2 week well check instead.
Rosa That monkey is so cute—you did a great job!
Mandersald Adorable belly—you look great!
Janu98 No cramps here, but maybe it’s just your uterus stretching to accommodate your growing baby?
Rancid Enjoy your weekend getaway! I was so happy that I got some snowboarding in this year before I found out I was PG. With DD, I was PG the entire winter, so I missed the entire season.
I hope you all have a great weekend!
cramps yeah, I still have them occasionally - they never last for more than a minute or so, and generally only when I get up in the morning. I have a lot more braxton-hicks contractions though.
vaccinations I am a very strong (VERY) supporter of fully vaccinating my kids. I can understand delaying some, since it's very sad to see those poor babies get so many at once and some children do have reactions, but we did it on schedule. The chicken pox is one that I could understand not gettting. However, there have been recent outbreaks of polio, mumps, etc in the US, so DS got everything by the book. I'm actually reluctant to let unvaccinated kids over to my house if there is anything in the news, and will probably be even more paranoid about it when the new babies are here, since they won't be fully immunized for awhile. Now that we're in SE Asia, the twins will be getting everything plus a couple extra. I imagine I'm extreme in the other direction!!
work It's weird, since I just started a new job and I'm already planning on leaving for maternity leave at the beginning of November. I'll probably try to work from home between week 32 and 36, when the babies are due, but I have to make contingency plans now. We're at the stage where I'm trying to designate backups, schedule things carefully, keep lots of notes...Funny, since my predecessor basically left everything a mess. Except the budget. I guess that's good.
pediatrician I'm going to be asking around in the next couple of weeks. Two of my colleagues wives' are due six weeks before me, so I'll ask them who they picked and why. Oh, and another co-worker had a baby a month ago, and really liked that pediatrician, i just haven't gotten the name and details yet. He said his son had the "most beautifull penis" after the circumcision. I had to try really really hard not to laugh! He's such a cute dad!:D
Thanks! I'm waiting for DH to get home so we can pack up the car and head up. That stinks about missing an entire season! We actually planned TTC around snowboarding season...we agreed to start trying after this previous season had ended, but then we ended up saying WTH and gave it a try starting March 1. I got the BFP (2 of them actually) about 3 weeks later, the weekend before we were leaving on a weeklong trip (trying to put our season passes to good use!). My gyno said it was totally up to me as to whether to go on the trip, and with all the powder that fell during the time we were there it was pretty easy to 'take it easy' on the slopes, so to speak. :)
I am just back from my second baby shower (in New York City). It was a great weekend, and we got lots of fun things for our little guy! Now we have one more which, luckily, is local.
cramps: none here, but I was wondering whether any of you have had the sensation that suddenly your stomach is getting really hard and tight. Then, it relaxes after a little bit. Are those Braxton-Hicks contractions? I really don't know. It doesn't hurt - just feels weird.
I'll be back later with some belly shots :)
Adding my 26 week belly shots. I am so excited to be starting the 3rd trimester! These were taken yesterday while up at my IL's house for the baby shower.
Rosa! What a gorgeous baby belly you have! Everyone here has the cutest baby bellies, I am envious.
Also, those feelings you are having sound like Braxton-Hicks contractions. They catch me completely off guard, especially if they happen mid-sentence in court!
BH Contractions - Hmm...sometimes my belly feels really hard and other times it is more - mushy? My mom thought it might be BH contractions but it seems a bit early for that, guess not!
Nursery -I'm getting closer to a decision on a crib and I *think* we picked out a dresser/bookcase from Target. Of course, that was after DH and I had to have a "discussion" about what a changing table would be. He thought we could use his old nightstand. Um, the baby would probably be longer than the nightstand! :p
polydactylcat: Thanks so much! Yeah, those BH contractions (assuming that is what they are) feel SO weird. I would imagine they would be hard to deal with in court! So you're a lawyer? Me too! But I left work early in the pregnancy and won't be going back for a while.
Hi girls, I have a question…
This is from my 23 weeks from baby zone: put your feet up when you can, stretch out your legs when you sit, avoid sitting still for long periods, exercise regularly to increase circulation, and wear support stockings (put them on first thing in the morning).
I have no idea what “support stockings” are? Are any of you wearing it?
I've been wondering that too because I've read that it's a solution for charlie horses and other leg cramps, which I've been getting lately. Is it some kind of panty hose? Because when I google support stocking it keeps popping up control top panty hose and I KNOW that's not it.
I have not been wearing them but I know you can get compression garments at ankle, calf, thigh and yes, even waist, height.
A quick search found this site among others: http://www.pregnancy-info.net/exercise_and_well_being_compression_stockings_in_p regnancy.html
with links to places to buy them. I hope this helps.
Hi Everyone!
I hope everyone had a good weekend! Rancid, how was the mini-trip? We went camping with friends. It was a bit rainy at times but it was warm and we were still able to hike and have some campfires so it was lots of fun. Sleeping on an air mattress is definitely less fun when you're pregnant though! :rolleyes:
Rosa - What an artist you are! If I could do something like that, the munchkin room would be covered in murals. I can't wait to see the finished room, you must take pictures!!
Belly Shots - Everyone is SO cute! Wow, we're really starting to look pregnant!
BH - Don't think I've had these yet. Lots of indigestion but no cramps or BH contractions.
Support hose - According to Princeton's WordNet, Support hose is defined as "elasticized stocking intended to reduce pressure on the veins of the leg (as in case of varicose veins)". I know a friend of mine wore them but I've never worn them or even seen them?!?!? Do they just look like nylons?
Work - Yes, I've already had the "you won't be here so there's no need for you to come to this meeting" moments at work and it is weird. I also have a co-worker who is CERTAIN that I'm going to go into emergency any day now so she acts like if I haven't left today, I will tomorrow, which is a little frustrating. I've already been overlooked for a really cool project b/c it's not starting until October, which is understandable but still makes you feel a little hollow inside, like you're starting to move outside the "bubble". Luckily, it's all b/c we get to be home with our beautiful munchkins in a few months time!!!
Fun stuff - I've decided that I must have this onesie:
http://www.funkymonkeybaby.com/MainImage.aspx?ID=22330
Shawn and I are engineers so I think it only fitting. I looked for a "My Mom's a Geek" onesie but so far, no luck. Let me know if you see one. I also (as a die hard Dirty Dancing fan) must have this onesie:
http://www.funkymonkeybaby.com/MainImage.aspx?ID=22335
Lastly, I fell in love with this diaper bag and am thinking I may have to splurge and buy it as well.
http://www.funkymonkeybaby.com/MainImage.aspx?ID=29965
The only problem being that I will definitely have to buy a second one, seeing as Shawn would NEVER in a million years carry a gold floral shiny purse-bag. :D I'm thinking this would be a nice alternate that he would happily carry:
Hope everyone is doing great! Must go to bed now!
I went to the OB today. She did the old tape measure method and I was 6 centimeters "bigger than normal" meaning that I was still measuring big. Last time, I was 3 centimeters too large. But my weight gain is normal. So she performed an ultrasound to do the exact quadrant measurements of fluid in the uterus. She also stressed that some women just carry farther out than normal because of the way their body is shaped. That could be me since I have a short torso.
When ultrasounding me, she said that eyeballing it told her that I was carrying excess fluid but that the measurements themselves, from the machine, were still in the normal range. I'm at level 20-21 and polyhydramnios occurs at 25+. Most women measure about 16-18. I'm up there, but still normal. Baby is measuring exactly on schedule-I'm 24weeks, 2 days and the baby is 24 weeks, 1 day. The one other thing that she wants to keep an eye on is that the baby's abdomen is measuring a little small. Basically, they have a weekly range and mine is 22-27 weeks. Baby's abdomen is at 22 weeks so still in the normal range but low (only in the 5%tile). She said that could mean that he isn't getting enough nutrition but that we need to trend it to see if it's just an anomaly. So when I go in for my 28 week check, they will do another ultra sound to make sure the fluid is still under 25 and the baby's abdomen is measuring higher. So, there is still a little bit of worry on my part but I feel confident that everything is in normal range.
*********
Everyone looks so lovely in their belly shots. I'm going to have to post something! I look so big, it's crazy. One of my maternity shorts barely fit me this past weekend, which was QUITE distressing. Am I going to have to live in my sweats from here on out????? :rolleyes:
We still haven't registered or decided on any bedding or decor. How horrible! Our floors are being refinshed next week and I have a huge list for when it's done of all the crap we have to do. It's relentless!
Allison, those onesies are so cute. And I love the Skip Hop bags, they are functional and manly enough for our men.
Cramps, I haven't had any BH but I do get crampy now and again. I've heard that you can have "ghost" symptoms of your period when you are preggo. Don't know if that's true or not...
Rosa, those jeans are SO cute...where did you get them???
Oh good - glad I'm not the only one feeling a bit odd sometimes at work. I hear people talking about staffing a lot lately (we've got a bunch of new projects) and I'll hear my name mentioned followed by, "nope, she'll be gone soon." I'm so excited about the baby coming, but it feels so strange to suddenly be cut out of these work opportunities.
I also LOVE that Dirty Dancing onesie - too cute!
Mo - We haven't registered yet either. Still way too many decisions left to make before we go do that. I have some of the nursery stuff figured out but definitely not the "gear."
Anyone else done being pregnant? I know that it's too early to be thinking this but, I'm not in love with my current "restricted" status. I'm structural engineer (we're another two engineer family. DH is the director of a biomedical engineering department.) and I have a part-time photography business and have not been up to my normal self in either job for a while now. I know that I should be thankful for this time and that things are going so well but...it's hard to accept help and slowing down. I'm also have identity crisis issues regarding the pregnancy. Every social conversation revolves around the pregnancy and not by my choice.
My Dr. appointment went well last week. Only two pounds of weight gain in a month. :D I did have a tapeworm the other night so, I'm sure that next month will not be as pretty. Oh, my platelets went back up too so, that was good news. They aren't "normal" but, not dropping.
My DH's cousin had her baby boy on Saturday night a month early (she had a myriad of health issues.) Her blood pressure caused the doctor's to induce her a month early. It was so strange holding him. We visited her for a short time on Sunday...didn't want to be pests but, wanted to be sure that she had visitors.
Here I am with him:
Good Morning Everyone, I hope everyone is feeling ok.
Anyone else done being pregnant? Yea, i love being pregnant it has been pretty easy not that im sick of it or just wore out im just impatient and am very ready to meet me daughter!!!
My DH says, YOu cant take the brownie batter out of the oven when its not even done cooking. i thought that was cute.
BH I can't say that i have had these, cause i dont know what contractions feel like. i have a weird tightning feeling but honetly (TMI) it feels like i have to go to the bathroom for a brief second.
COnstipation ACK ! I have to say this has been the worst part of this pregnancy so far. so uncomftorable, it goes on and off for about 2 weeks now.
maternity clothesi went a little crazy in early summer time and bought tons of clothes, and so fall is coming up but i was going to wait a month or so that way i could get warm clothes and i dotn wantt to spend alot being we dont have much much longer. I wear like 7 different outfits to work i change them up a bit black slacks with cute shirts, and this girl at work always looks at me and makes comments about my outfits like about wearing the same stuff. "hello chick im pregnant i cant wear suits," and this is very appropriate im not gonna dish out 500 for pregnancy clothes for work when in 3 months or so im not going to need all that. id rather spend it on my baby.
Sorry for the vent.. people are so rude.
Allison love the bag!!!!!
speaking of clothes.. rosa i love those pants are they maternity? were did you get them?
So who is off for Labor Day What are everyones plans?
Chris'slady: The jeans are maternity - meant for early maternity, as they don't really have a panel, just a stretchy part on either side under the pocket. They are Earl Jeans, which is a pricey designer brand. They were supposed to be $180, but my mom got them for me at Marshalls for $20! So that was my big maternity bargain. I love them because they really do not look maternity.
Allison: Oh, thank you! I will, of course, post more nursery pics as things come together. I hope everyone else does the same!
Labor Day: Just working on the nursery and maybe hanging out at the pool :)
Anyone else done being PG? Hmmm... I think I am feeling the opposite way. I am freaking about how soon he will be here. I am SO excited to meet him, but also have so much to do. I also think I will be sad when I can't feel him kicking in there anymore :( Of course, I have had a pretty easy pregnancy. I'm sure if I start getting uncomfortable I will want him to come out!!
Hey all. Thanks for the tip about Kohl's sale. I went on Saturday and got 7 summer outfits for next year for $28. Cool! I've also been given a bunch of hand-me-downs from a friend and am waiting for a full load from SIL. Her son was born this past January so I'll be able to get a bunch of infant winter things. Excellent since what I have now is a lot of summery things although the first few months is just generic onesies and such anyway (newborns poop and spit up so much that it's worthless to get adorable 0-3 month outfits since they go through about 3 a day and FYI, poop and spit up can stain).
We still have our second nursery set up from last time so that's what we'll be using. The bedding set is Malawi. It's a little boyish but I'm too tired to redo it to something more gender neutral. No more furniture and bedding shopping for me although it was fun the first time. Ugh, tried posting a bunch of photos from Snapfish but nothing is showing up. I guess Snapfish is still having problems. Oh well, we'll save that for another day.
STILL having m/s but it's become such a way of life that I just shrug it off now. It is much less than what I started off with so even though I've had to take Zofran to get through a couple of days, hey, it's all part of life. ~shrug~
I've been letting some projects slide by me at work also but really haven't minded. With my first pregnancy, I was gung-ho to keep me finger in every project right up until I went on maternity leave but this time, I have no interest. My priorities have totally changed. While I still love what I do and enjoy my position, I now view it as a nice challenge and a paycheck as opposed to my identity, which is what it was pre-family. I never thought I would be like that but I've been proven wrong. ;)
I love all the belly shots and feel better for my own burgeoning belly. Physically, I feel so massive and cumbersome yet when I look in the mirror, I don't look as huge as I feel. I agree with Rancid though, my massive naked belly seems to shrink when I put clothing on it. One of the unexplained mysteries of the world! :confused:
Hope everyone else is doing well.
Cramps I haven't had any af type cramps but I get charlie horses every now and then.
BH Contractions Yup they have started.
Allison Cute finds! I love the first diaper bag.
Mobox I am glad you are feeling a little better.
Done being pregnant I have my days but I also enjoy being pregnant and carrying this baby.
Is anyone waking up 3 times or more at night to use the bathroom? I am up ever 2-3 hours to pee! It is very annoying.
Rosa - Indeed, I am an attorney, although for a period of 2.5 years after I had my first I refused to go back to work as one because of the terrible experience from the first job. It took plenty of coaxing and the right schedule (2 days a week, different employer and different practice area altogether) before I went back. The B/H contractions during court are definitely an interesting sensation, would hate to see what my facial expressions are as I try to repress laughter and attempt not to be too shocked.
mobox - Glad to hear that this OB appointment has started to put your mind more at ease. Hope the next few continue to be as positive!
carissa - I'm definitely up all night going to the bathroom, which is especially annoying when one cannot fall back asleep comfortably right away! Sweet, elusive sleep :(
Chris'slady - Can definitely relate to the whole maternity wardrobe thing. I'm tired of wearing the same outfits/rotation of pieces but honestly can't stand the thought of buying too much more!! Especially when maternity suits are so expensive and can't be worn for a long time.
Done being pregnant - not yet (although, as I get larger my opinion will quickly change). This pregnancy has been going much more smoothly that I've been able to enjoy parts that were not so enjoyable last time around. It is wierd though, that people focus on the pregnancy aspect of my life (as though nothing else is going on). I try to think of something else to talk about - like Project Runway or some other pop culture type item - and the topic always rotates right back to pregnancy (for example, "Oh! Heidi's pregnant again!" or "Did you know Laura's pregnant during the filming?!")
labor day - just kicking back with the family, working on the nursery and putting together the final items for the baby shower I'm throwing for SIL the following weekend.
I'll try to catch up with some of the recent topics....
Pediatrician – I still need t ask around about this one but my neighborhood is having a party in a few weekends so I plan to ask around then and also see if anyone knows anyone in the neighborhood that does in home daycare
Work – actually I will be getting more responsibility! No taking it easy for me the next few months although I will definitely work on not getting stressed out. I am typically a very laid back person so normally it takes a lot for me to feel stressed but given that it’s not good for me right now I need to make that a priority. Currently, I manage 15 people (I work in banking) and another manager from our group is taking another job in the bank and me and another manager are basically splitting her duties (of course I won’t get 50% of what she makes but that is a different story!). I have been bored in my current job as I have been doing it for awhile now so it will be nice to have a new challenge and at least I’ll be busy and the time should not drag on. My DH even commented “they do know you’ll be off for awhile, right”. I said yes but will be sharing with my manager how much time I have in mind (10 weeks). I am not waivering on that and feel I deserve it after working there for so long.
Cramps – just charlie horse during the night which totally suck! I’d say I get them about once a week and just had one last night. The weird “pressure” feelings I had been having seem to be gone for now though.
Cloth Daipering – I’ll be sticking with disposables.
Vaccinations – I have not done any research yet but will probably stick with the Dr recommended schedule. Still need to check out though…
BH Contractions – None yet that I am aware of
Anyone else done being pregnant? – Not quite yet but am excited for December. I am sure if you ask me in a few months it will b a totally different answer. I have been feeling good so that helps, too.
Bathroom – On average I get up once a night. I’ll take that rather than the 2-3 that some of you have regularly :)
Labor day - I plan to give the house a good cleaning and we may paint our bedroom. It is currently a bright yellow, which has grown on me but when we initially painted it about 4 years ago I hated it! We’ll go with a shade of blue if we decide to paint. Sunday we are going to my grandpa’s for dinner w/the family.
Everyone’s pics look great! I did have my DH take one almost two weeks ago and I want to take another one tomorrow at 24 weeks so then I’ll post. My crib bedding did arrive and I love it! The skirt somehow was left out so they are sending that separately. I have some paint chips laid out so that is the next big decision.
Showers - I am jealous of teh showers some of you had already. I am looking forward to them! My friends are having one plus work will do something for me. The family situation is a little odd in that nobody has mentioned anything yet. I am the only niece (i.e. young person) and my mom has 4 sisters yet when times like this come around it makes me a little sad nobody ever steps up and offers to host what I consider "special events". I won't bore you with all the details but one of my mom's good friends hosted a bridal shower they all came to so you'd think a family member would step up thsi time. Money is not the issue and really other than selfishness there really is no issue with one of them or a few doing it. I have done alot for certain family members over the years so it hurts my feelings at times like this when nobody reciprocates. I may sound like brat for even bringing that up but it has been bugging me. I know there is still time but will be very surprised if they still offer. I honestly would see my mom or one of her friends again offering if anything. I'll keep you updated though if anything changes.
sunshine: I'm sorry to hear that you feel that way about the shower thing. It's nice that your friends and co-workers want to do something. Hopefully your family will plan something too. My mom did one of mine - I don't think that's weird.
bathroom: I have never gotten up to go in the middle of the night - not once since being PG. I *think* I am drinking tons of water, but now I am thinking I may be dehydrated. I always have to go right when I get up in the morning, but still. Oh well, guess I will just consider myself lucky for now.
movement: The baby's movement is getting crazy! Last night I was sitting on the couch and I felt a big bulge suddenly come out from my belly. It stayed there for a few seconds and then moved. It must have been a baby part :) It didn't hurt or anything, but it felt weird.
Hi ladies-
had my mw appt this morning, and it was super uneventful. we were in and out in 15 minutes. :eek: everything looks right on except for my weight. I have put on a few extra pounds since my last appt, especially in the butt and thighs, but I'm exercising and eating well, etc. my mw started threatening me with keeping a food diary if i continue to gain weight. ugh. i've only gained 20 so far, and i don't think that's too bad, i just hate the way my butt and thighs are changing!!
oh well. everything else looks good, and our next appt and 1 hour GTT is Sept 20
allison love the cute onesies!! i especially love the geek one. (my dh and i are also both engineers!! we'll have to find one that says, "my mom is a geek") acutally, my mom and sister are coming to visit next month and when they're here they want to decorate a bunch of onesies with iron on transfers, so i bet you could make one! They're crafty like that.
rosa very cute belly shots. you look great!!
i took another belly shot yesterday and noticed i'm getting stretch marks!! boo!!
nursery we finally finished the painting in our nursery. i think it looks great. as dh says, "we do a nice job painting."
bathroom i'm also up 2 times a night. :( plus, its always a chore to get back in bed with all the pillows, etc.
showers my mil and sil are throwing me one in oct. i am uneasy about the whole shower thing in general since i feel sorta awkward about all the gift giving. sorry you feel that way about the shower thing, sunshine. i hope one of your family members steps up.
work i'm a phd student, so my work is completely independent. its more a matter of how motivated i am to work on my dissertation. i'm hoping this flexibility will help me after the little bug is born so that i'm not too pressured going back to work.
visitors my family has just recently started bugging me about when they can visit after the baby is born. they want to visit for christmas, and want to stay for 10 days. they won't be staying at our house, but staying for that long makes me super nervous. i have a good relationship with them, but i'm not sure if its going to be too much too soon. not only that, but that leaves no time for my il's to visit either and do the whole holiday thing with them.
nevertheless, i'm getting quite frustrated and i just don't know what to do. i don't know what i'm going to want or need immediately after the baby is born. i just sorta want it to be me, dh and the little bug, but i know that's not going to happen. this has been a source of major emotional turmoil for me lately. everytime i talk to my mom about it, i end up crying after hanging up the phone since i don't want to make plans RIGHT NOW. they live far away and need to get flights. it just sorta seems like they are being a little selfish since this is their first grandbaby, and i dunno...
sigh...
anyways, other than that, i'm feeling good and now that i have a pillow at my desk for back support, i'm feeling pretty good!! :) hope everyone is doing well!!
mandersald: I totally understand how you feel about people coming after the baby is born. Both my mom and my MIL are bugging me about when they can come. They both want to come as soon as the baby is born and THEN come back for Christmas. And both want to stay at our house. I don't mind hosting Christmas - could be fun, actually. But I don't know about them coming as soon as the baby is born. But I know they need to figure out flights and stuff. It's tough because you really can't know how you are going to feel.
I am sure glad I am not the only one up at night to pee. I hear ya on the back to bed to gosh it's so hard to get comfortable these days.
x-post from journal:
Yesterday I had my 24week appt. I fell yesterday morning on the stairs at work. I was going up them and almost to the landing when all of a sudden I was down on my hands and knees on the last 2 stairs. I didnt hit my stomach but it was a jolt. It had me feeling more intenetly for her movements all day. Dh had me mention it at my appt of course. I had been having some tightening and low pressure over the last few weeks as well. She did an internal check and my cervix is open a dimple(her words) on the outside and closed inside. She checked for a HB and she was moving all over and the HB was fine. She also measured and I am at 24 1/2cm. right on track. She had us got to the hospital to triage to do an NST. They wanted to monitor her for a couple of hours to make sure there were no issues. I guess the jolt of a fall can make the placenta pull away. We stopped and ate on the way and arrived at the hospital an hour later. Their triage was full so they put us in a birthing suite. Talk about a hospital tour. We got the whole run down. They went through my entire history with us, did another urine specimen, and got me all hooked up. Madison was kicking at the monitors for the first hour. I could watch them jump on my belly. They had a hard time keeping her on the monitor since she was moving so much. I dont think she has ever moved that much for that long before. It was kind of fun but not the best timing. The last hour she finally slowed down. Basically Dh and I just watched Tv while we were there. It was a nice exscuse not to do anything. A MW came in talked to us for a few minutes half way through and said things were looking good and came back at the end to release us. Basically they were all impressed by her trackings since she was only 24w. Her tracking made her look more developed. Sounds good to me! They gave me the list of things to watch for and when to come back if needed.
Basically everything is great and I have another appt in 4weeks. I have to do my GTT then.
Bathroom I normally get up once a night. During the day when I am up and around I go more often. I sware she sits right on my bladder. :rolleyes:
Labor Day We are going camping. Our 4th trip of the year. Although I think getting up off the airmattress may get a little harder this trip. And walking to the bathroom first thing in the morning.
I thought I had more time to respond but alas, need to head to a site visit...
Bathroom. I'm up at 3am every morning. I end up going a lot more during the day. I think that the baby's position on my bladder has a lot to do with it.
Labor Day. We are taking our last plane trip for a while to visit my parents. (August was a busy month for travel...3 plane trips in all this month. I have figured out that I have visited/flown through the following states while pg: FL, GA, MD, TN, PA, NY, IL, MA, OH. I really want to squeeze in a trip to visit my sister at college but, I'm not sure if it's going to work out. This is sort of amazing considering that I know people who have never left Florida. We're expecting our children to learn to love traveling at an early age.) The weekend will be quite busy as my parent's are hosting an event for my aunt's 71st anniversary of being a nun on Saturday. Sunday they are hosting a baby BBQ for us. Monday is a day of recovery and then Tuesday we're heading to a resort for the morning. I'm getting a pg massage and my DH is skeet shooting before we head home. I'm very much looking forward to some down time. I'm hoping to knock out the thank you notes from the shower my DH's family hosted on the plane rides.
Visitors. We have no idea how this is going to work.
Marteneym Glad to hear that you and Madison are ok!!!
Rosa~ Great belly shots!! You look absolutely adorable!! I’m loving those jeans you’re wearing too!
Rancid, how was the mini-trip? We went camping with friends. It was a bit rainy at times but it was warm and we were still able to hike and have some campfires so it was lots of fun. Sleeping on an air mattress is definitely less fun when you're pregnant though!
It was fun!! Even though the bed was super uncomfortable and the shower was definitely tiny, we had a blast hiking, taking pictures, and sightseeing. I haven’t hiked that much in about 4 years, since we last went up there in the summer. Went to Yosemite too…saw a bear, some deer and got lots of pretty pictures of the scenery (Half Dome, waterfalls, El Capitan, etc) and got some pictures of a herd of about 100 elk we saw on the drive home last night. It’s good to be home though, with my nice soft bed and roomy shower. :)
That last diaper bag you posted is my favorite one (for myself)…I’m 90% sure that’s the one I’m getting.
Mobox~ I’m so happy and relieved to hear that all the measurements are coming out normal! That’s definitely good news to hear. You’re definitely gonna have to post a belly shot, I can’t wait to see how your baby bump is looking these days! I only registered at BRU already b/c my BFF was planning the shower and wanted to include registry info in the invites…not to mention, the shower is in 2.5 weeks. Otherwise I would’ve procrastinated even further. We’ve decided on bedding/décor but have yet to actually purchase anything. Oops! :eek:
Anyone else done being pregnant?
YES!! Some days moreso than others, especially when friends or family members make a big deal out of me not being able to do this or that because I’m pregnant. I seem to be most uncomfortable in the evenings, whether it be relaxing on the couch or when I’m trying to get settled into bed. No position is comfortable it seems. Most days I’m soooo over this whole pregnancy thing and want it to be over, then I realize that in order for it to be over I have to actually give birth and that makes me rethink things and realized maybe it’s not quite so so bad.
Chris’slady~ That’s so rude about your coworker commenting on your maternity wardrobe! It is tough to come up with various outfits that fit when your belly is growing out to there…I’m sorry that she feels the need to make your clothing her personal concern. :mad: What is it with people speaking their mind and saying rude things like that without any regard for the other person's feelings??
Labor Day~ I don’t have any plans yet, I didn’t even realize next Monday was a holiday until I tried to schedule an appointment for my boss for Monday and was told absolutely not by the other party, because of the holiday. I’ll probably either relax all day, or see what my family is doing (bbq, beach, etc) that day.
Sophiapb~ I’m so sorry to hear that you’re still dealing with m/s. Funny about our bellies ‘shrinking’ when we put clothes on them, why do you think that is?? But then again I was told my SIL over the weekend (after reminding her I’m just over 6 months along and while wearing clothes) that I’m going to have a big baby because “look at that belly!”. She didn’t take into account that at 5’2” with a short torso, there’s no place for my belly to grow but OUT! She’s almost 6 feet tall and very long & slender so when she was 6 mos along she looked much smaller. :rolleyes:
Is anyone waking up 3 times or more at night to use the bathroom? Not anymore, thank gawd!! I’m actually (knock on wood) able to sleep through the night 6 days a week without having to get up and pee between the time I lay down and the time my alarm goes off the next morning. It’s been nice but I have a feeling it’s not going to last long because I’ve always drank large amounts of water throughout the day (a minimum of 2 25-oz bottles at work, and about 3-4 glasses in the am and pm at home).
Visitors~ I think that in the weeks after I have the baby, I’ll welcome any and all visitors to my home whether it be family or friends. I’m sure I’ll be exhausted and willing to accept any help or relief I can get. Luckily most of my family lives very close by so they won’t have to stay with us when they visit (unless they want to sleep on the couch). I wouldn’t really want anyone staying over for very long, IMO 10 days is a bit lengthy when you’re going to be busy caring for a newborn. My mom might possibly stay over in order to help out in the first few days, but then again she lives 5 miles away so driving back and forth wouldn’t be too big a deal.
Marteneym~ Wow, that’s quite a scare you had yesterday! Thank goodness you didn’t hit your belly in the fall, although I’ve read that even if one were to fall and hit the belly there’s so much amniotic fluid in there that baby would be kept safe from any harm. Glad to hear that everything seems to be going along fantastically!!
Rancid: Thanks so much!
Camping sounds like fun, especially at Yosemite - how cool!! I went camping at about 4 months, which was fun. But I am unsure about how I would do on an air mattress at this point :p I'm glad to hear you had a lot of fun though!
Haha, we didn't even attempt to camp this trip. My folks rented a condo so that was the extent of 'roughing it up' that we dealt with, along with the super uncomfortable bed (sleeping on the ground on rocks probably would've felt better) and tiny tiny shower.
Rosa You look great! Love those jeans.
mobox I’m happy to hear that your Dr.’s visit went well and gave you some reassurance. It’s great that they are keeping such close tabs on your little guy. Good luck with your floors! We had ours refinished (we have a 1926 fixer-upper with original wood floors) a few months ago. It was such a hassle to move all our stuff out of the house, but worth it in the end.
Chris’slady What a tool that girl at work is! I can’t believe she commented on your clothes—what is she, in high school? Stories like yours make me thankful I work at home, so nobody can comment on the fact that I wear the same damn yoga pants almost everyday. Yoga pants and my Old Navy tanks are like my uniform these days.
Sophia I can’t believe you are still dealing with MS. You are really a trooper. I love the Malawi bedding. One of my friend’s did her nursery with all the Malawi stuff and it is adorable (and, FWIW, she has a girl).
Marteneym Glad to hear that you and Madison are both ok.
Labor Day Weekend First of all, I cannot believe it is Labor Day already—where did the summer go?! I am hoping for a mellow weekend. We’ll go to a street festival on Friday. Maybe try to get together with friends. Catch up with DH who has been away all week on business. I also hope to finally get some baby gear—crib, mattress, etc. Also, when DH gets home from his trip, we are going to tell DD about the baby. Can you believe we haven’t told her yet?! I am so excited to tell her. She LOVES babies, so I think it will be fun to see her reaction, and we have a bunch of big sister books to give her.
Done being pregnant Nope, not at all. I actually enjoy being pregnant. I just think it’s amazing that our bodies have little people growing inside them and I have been lucky enough to feel pretty good at least since around 14 weeks or so. Plus, this will likely be my last pregnancy, so I am trying to enjoy it as much as I can. As excited and anxious as I am to meet our little guy, I also know that it is a million times easier to care for him when he’s on the inside. So, I’m enjoying the relative ease of life with *just* a two-year old!
Bathroom I can’t even count how many times I am up during the night. But, it’s not always my bladder that wakes me. Sometimes it is DD, but usually it is my PITA doggies wanting me to let them out into the yard. Then, once I’m up, I realize I have to pee since having to pee is pretty much a perpetual state of being these days.
Visitors Not sure what we’re going to do this time around. Both DH and I are from the East Coast but live on the West Coast, so most all of our family is across the country. With DD, we did not want overnight guests for the first 2 weeks because it was important to us to be able to be on our own as our own little family in the very beginning and to be able to focus completely on DD without having to worry about playing hostess. I’m so glad we did things that way. Then, when DD was 2 weeks my parents came out to stay with us for a bit. DH’s folks are weird, so they didn’t see DD until she was around 5 months old—and that was only because we visited them. (According to MIL, newborn babies aren’t that interesting.:rolleyes: ) Anyway, this time around I’m wondering if we should have my mom come out to make sure my DD gets enough attention and is cared for. We still haven’t made up our minds on this.
I'm behind again!
chris's lady I'm with everyone else on the dummy at work. Sheesh, what a thing to say.
marteneym I'm glad everything is ok.
mandersald I wouldn't worry about weight if you're eating well and exercising. I hate that they track it so closely. If babies grow in spurts isn't it ok to gain more in some months than others? I say this and I'm dreading the scale myself.
Labor day weekend Labor day weekend? Really! We're going to a baseball game Saturday night. Relaxing and maybe working on the nursery sounds good.
bathroom I am up at least 2X/night. Part of it is that I am having crazy dreams and part of it is that it's hard to get comfy. I have been running super hot too. Various things wake me up and then, of course, I have to pee.
done being pregnant no, I'm ok. I actually feel like it's just getting to the fun part where I actually look pregnant. I HATED that phase before there was a belly sticking out where I just looked extra fat.
visitors my family is talking about driving down when I am in labor. I don't know how long they will be staying though. I'm not sure what to do/say. I think the help might be nice but I also think time with just me, DH, and the baby would be nice too. I think I will just reserve the right to send them away.
I have a mw appointment in an hour or so. I have to ask her about my low-lying placenta. I also want to ask about breast pumps since I need to start some reseacrh on that. Also, maybe I'm crazy but I am going on a cross country road trip witha friend the first of October and just need to make sure that, medically, it's ok to do so. We'll have to stop a lot so I can pee and walk around but I am looking forward to it.
Hi everyone! I've tried to pop in a few times but haven't managed to post in a while. I've been so tired and uncomfortable in the evenings (when I would normally post) so I feel so far behind.
My big dilemma right now is OB/hospital or midwife/birthing center. There are pros and cons to both and I'm trying to sort out the one that will work best for us.
Labor Day Weekend No plans, yet. We'll probably try to get things done around the house.
Done being pregnant? This pregnancy has been a lot harder than the last. I love feeling the baby move and knowing I have a life growing inside me but I hate feeling uncomfortable and BIG. I'm so much bigger this time!!
:( When people find out when I'm due, they say that I won't make it that long. I guess I wouldn't mind being so big if I knew I wasn't going to get that much bigger! Ugh. I have a huge belly!
Bathroom At least once a night.
Visitors None planned right now. I don't think we could handle any visitors in the beginning. My parents live nearby so they will probably come help during the day if we need it. DH's family lives far away and probably won't come until the baby is a few months old.
Labor Day Weekend I am really disappointed b/c I wanted to go home to New Orleans but my doc said no, I can't travel yet. I am so bummed No great holiday for me. I am so over this.:mad:
Visitors My mom is coming to stay with us when the baby comes, she says for a month but I will see how long she will be here when she comes. I am not really interested in my MIL coming b/c she is more of a nuisance than a help. She wants to be constantly entertained and it drives me nuts. I could not imagine her and the new baby no way. :rolleyes:
I know i have posted this in the past so please forgive me but this is my vent of the day!!! :mad:
I have been having menstral like cramps on and off for a few weeks now, I have called my dumb ass :( OB many times and told him the feelings i am having and he the first thing outta his mouth is " your too far in to the pregnancy for a m/c and too early to go it to pre-term labor, so as long as there is no blood you are fine." What does it take for this guy to check me out? Who know what it could be but these cramps are quite frequent, but he never tells me to come into the office so he can check it out. What the hell? what is it going to take?ARGHHHHH he makes me so mad cus he is sooo nonchalant bout my concerns and its beginning to bug me and make me feel as if I am the one whos is over reacting. I know he is a OB and has heard and seen this many times but personally i think he needs to look at me cus you never know! Also when i get these bad cramps it seems as if my CM just starts oozing out (sorry TMI) more. I am up in arms! I have voiced my concerns to DH but he thinks if the doc says everything is okay then i am overeacting too. No one believes me!! :(
janu: Oh, I am sorry you are having cramps AND that no one is taking it too seriously. My DH is the same way - just trust everything the doctor says 100%. I can understand your frustration though. I feel like it is your body and if you feel like something may be wrong, then you should push the issue. I would tell his office that you would really like to be seen. Have you tried to just put it like that? I know I have trouble "standing up to" the doctor sometimes, but there are times when it is important (or could be). It is important even for your peace of mind, actually. I definitely don't feel like you are overreacting because I am PG too and would feel the same way if I were always having cramps! I hope you work it out.
janu- I would call and make an appt. to see the doctor as soon as possible. I wouldn't ask to speak to the doctor just talk to the appointments clerk. If you can't make an appointment, I would probably go to the emergency room. But, that's just me. I've had a miscarriage prior to this pregnancy and I have an incompetent cervix d/x during this pgncy that puts me at risk for preterm labor. I'd rather be safe than sorry.
I don't want to say your doctor is full of crap about preterm labor/miscarriage at this point but it can and does happen. 2nd trimester miscarriages are more rare than 1st trimester ones, but they do happen. There are several ladies on these boards that have lost pregnancies at this point.
While I am sure everything is ok, janu, you absolutely have the right to be treated more respectfully and feel validated by your doctor. I agree with PPs--call his office and make an appointment--at the very least, it will help your piece of mind and reduce your stress. I have called my doctor 2times bewteen appointments, simply asking for a doppler to reassure myself that everything was ok--he was happy to accommodate me.
janu Can you switch doctors? Is there another one at that practice? I would call the office and make an appointment with the first available Dr. If this OB is nonchalant and dismissive on the phone he will probably be the same in the office and you are entitled to a second opinion. If there isn't another Dr then I would call and make an appointment to see this one or go to urgent care. My guess is that everything is fine but if you're like me you won't feel better until someone looks and then says all is well. It's not good to be so stressed.
janu98-I am so sorry you are going through this! If I were you I would call my OB and demand to have them check you out. Or show up at the office and demand to be seen right then and there. I have seen woman do this and they don't leave the office until they are seen. If it gets really bad then you can always go to the emergency room too but I would call your OB and tell him/her that you are worried and you need to be checked out ASAP. I had really bad pains with my first son and I ended up having to ask for an ultrasound to be done because I was in so much pain. My doctor didn't think it was necessary but since I demanded to have it they gave it to me. I totally agree with katmg-I would rather be safe than sorry. Good luck!
Labor Day Weekend-we don't really have anything planned. I have to work tomorrow and that is it. I am suppose to fly out to California next weekend for my best friend's baby shower and I am totally freaking out about leaving my 3 year old behind because I have never been away from him overnight.
Visitors we have no relatives that live in our state so nobody except my mom will be coming from CA. We asked my MIL to come but she says she doesn't want to come because it will be too cold here. Okay......:rolleyes:
bathroom 2-3 times a night, it is fun especially with a toddler to take care of and a husband who has medical issues to take care of. I get very little sleep.
I can fully admit to being an over-reactive, freaked out pregnant woman--it's our first baby, following a M/C and a molar, and I have a lot of anxiety. There are MANY of us out there, and doctors should understand that! Like I said, mine has ben so accomodating--you deserve the same treatment.
Anytime I've gotten a snippy answer from a nurse or tech at my dr.'s office, I just say something like, "Well, I know you do this every day, but I've never had a baby before and I don't know what to consider normal." That usually makes them stop and realize that I'm not asking these questions to be annoying, I'm asking because I don't know.
I hope everything is just fine tomorrow Janu! I'm sure it will be and I'm sure it will give you some peace of mind to have a check up.
Teresita
Janu I'm so glad you got an appointment. You are entirely in the right here, and your doctor is wrong to be so dismissive of your concerns. You deserve to have the peace of mind you need to relax and not stress. I strongly believe that we all know our bodies best and should listen to our intuition. If your gut is telling you that you ought to be checked, then that's the best thing to do.
You mentioned that you noticed an increase in discharge with the cramps--will they be checking your cervix when you go in? If not, I'd have them check just to be on the safe side. I'm sure all will be fine.
Also, if you feel like your OB continues to disrespect your concerns, I'd consider switching doctors. I know it is a PITA, but it is worth it IMO to find someone you like.
ETA: When I say check your cervix, I mean with an u/s, not manually, to make sure it is long and tight.
Janu - Hope the OB visit goes well today, you shouldn't feel like you have to defend your every feeling and instinct (as though mom's don't do that enough to begin with?) so hopefully the OB will get his stick out of his rear end after you give him a talking to.
Labor Day weekend plans... we're working on the nursery some more this weekend. I'll post pics on Monday. Watching a bunch of college football and not a whole lot else planned.
Done being pregnant... I have my moments. It's more that I'm ready to meet my kid than anything else. But for the most part I'm enjoying the pregnancy. I wish I looked pregnant and not just bloated though.
Visitors... I don't think I'll mind having visitors... depending on who they are. I would prefer not to see my ILs right away because they stress me out but most everyone else I welcome as long as they're announced.
janu-hope your appointment went well today.
I had an appointment today. All she did was check the heartbeat and gave me the glucose test to take home and drink for my next appointment. I did gain more weight and I am really big but she isn't concerned at all. I look like I am 8 months pregnant already. I asked her about flying and she said it was fine, I have two trips scheduled this month. With my first pregnancy I flew up until 2 weeks until I gave birth but I was worried this time because I am so much bigger. I also told her that I have had groin pain for the past month and it is quite painful. She said it is common in second and third pregnancies and there is very little you can do. Other than that, everything is fine.
I hope everyone has a great weekend!
Marteneym - Glad that everything is ok with you and BABY! That must have been so scary...you are a trooper.
Janu - I'm so glad you are getting checked. You have to let us know how it goes.
Teresita - I'm a tad bit stressed with having to pack up almost the entire house but I'm determined to just go with the flow and deal with it. Have you been to the old house remodeler's thread? I'm over there occasionally, it's a great thread.
I almost forgot to post my belly pictures!
http://static.flickr.com/85/231000602_4135e0a717.jpg?v=0
Ok, so now you can see how big I am. Like I said before, I measure 6 cm larger than I should at this stage. I have gained 25 pounds although my doctor measures it at 20 pounds. Still not 100% sure why I'm so flippin' big. You know what the worst is? Climbing the stairs to my front door. Our house sits above our garage and I have to climb stairs and I'm exhausted by the time I get up there.
Cute belly pic, Mo!! You're looking great!! IMO you don't look big at all, not to me at least. If it helps you feel any better I've gained somewhere upwards of 20lbs thus far too (and that *really* shows up on a 5'2" frame, believe you me!!). My arms have like doubled in size, grrr.
I swear that picture does not do my belly justice!!!!!!!!! I"m not kidding...the nail lady today said in broken English: "You really big for 6 months." I was like, yeah, thanks.
Wow, I thought you had only gained a few pounds...I feel like I'm the only one on here who has gained over 20 so far. But everyone I know says that I must have gained it all in the belly because nothing else has gotten big-arms are the same, legs are the same, face is the same. I guess I should feel lucky.
Mo - from my own pregnant self's point of view, you look teeny and petite. Really. I look like I'm going into labor in a matter of hours! You look really cute.
Janu - hope everything goes well.
Done being pregnant - well, not yet, but yesterday I outgrew one of my maternity shirts. Hey, I 'm not even 24 weeks yet! Sheesh. Stupid part is it was "on sale' at Pea in the Pod but more than I expected, and I sorta got talked into buying it. I"ve worn it exactly once. Now I know better and will stick to Target!
Visitors - we have three sets of relatives coming..but first arrives one month after the babies are born, and then they are all staggered. I have to say, it works that we live so far away. (I say that now, knowing I will seriously regret not having them closer after the babies are here.)
Moves - well, we have about 25 boxes left to unpack, not counting the pictures. And about 12 boxes are books or CDs, so that should be easy. We also have about 2 boxes of stuff that was in junk drawers - I cannot for the life of me remember why we thought we needed all that stuff!
Mo- cute shirt and cute belly. I have to get some batteries for my dig camera and take a few shots.
Amy- I can totally understand a shirt you paid too much for that will not last long. I got one of those "Whats kicking" shirts and they are one size fits all. I know that thing will not last at all. I was kind of miffed I spent $40 on a t-shirt. I am really thinking of returning it and getting a store credit.
Weirdest preggo symptom to date: dandruff!! LOL. But my nails look fantastic!:p
I just got back from the doctor, where I had my Gestational Diabetes test. Luckily, that turned out great. I will be coming back for check-ups every 3 weeks now, since I am in the 3rd trimester. I was wondering, though, isn't it normal to go every 2 weeks at this point? For those of you in the third trimester, are you going every 2 weeks? I am just trying to be sure that I am being seen as much as I should be.
Also, I had a low-lying placenta when I went for my 22 week u/s. They told me that I would have another one to see if it corrected itself. I am not going to be having that for 6 more weeks (I will be in my 34th week). Is anyone else getting another u/s at that point? Is that around when they are getting it? I am just concerned and would like to know if the problem has gotten better. I know that if it has not, there are precautions I should be taking. But the doctor said not to worry at this point.
Yeah, so much for only gaining a few pounds. :rolleyes: That’s how it was the first few months, when my appetite had all but disappeared. Somewhere in the 2nd trimester it came back with a vengeance, to the point where I felt (and still feel some days) ravenous no matter how much I eat. I’ve been keeping up with my walking (30 minutes minimum per day, usually more though) and just received 2 prenatal yoga dvds I ordered from Amazon last week so I’ll start those this week.
Rosa~ I’ll find out at my next dr’s appt next Friday when I start the bi-weekly appointments. I know they’ll be every 2 weeks for awhile, then they’ll to once a week in the last month or so. Not sure the exact schedule right now though. I haven’t heard anything about another u/s (we’ve already had 2~the first one for the usual medical reasons at about 17-18w and the 2nd to check on cysts that were spotted at the first u/s) but I would be more than happy to get the chance to peek at our baby again.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just a couple things to report on here. The first being this pain I've been having.. I know you're "supposed" to sleep on your left side (and I have an assortment of pillows to help me achieve this position) but when I position myself on my left I get this sharp, shooting pain on that side just below my breast, like something is being pulled or torn or stretched too much. It really hurts enough to make me not want to lie on my side. Doesn't happen when I'm on my right side though. :(
My mom called me yesterday from BRU...turns out that the crib we want (Jardine Olympia Lifetime crib in black) just happened to be available as a clearance floor model at BRU. Someone had ordered it then decided they didn't want it after all. Mom said there was 1 small scratch on it, but it was otherwise in perfect condition (my worry was that it was banged up, because I've seen some of those floor models in pretty bad condition). So she's getting that for us. :D
FIL called DH over the weekend and they're coming into town this weekend (they live in Hawaii). FIL is only going to be here for a week, but MIL has decided to stay here until after the baby is born. She'll be able to make my shower next weekend and spend her bday, DH's bday, Thanksgiving and possibly even Christmas here. Which I know all means a lot to DH, and it will be fantastic having her around again during this special time in all our lives (this is the first 'planned' pregnancy on either my or DH's sides of the family). I'm very excited to see the both of them again. :D :D

Hand-me-downs - A good friend of our family gave my mom a whole bunch of baby stuff this weekend. She got 2 pack n plays, a gymini, 2 exersaucers, a boppy, a baby bath tub, assorted toys, etc. My mom said it filled up her whole SUV and looks like she has a Babies R Us outlet at her house! Apparently the stuff is in really good condition (and my mom knows how picky I am!) I hardly think DH and I will need to register now.
I went on a 5 1/2 hour car ride this weekend to my family's ranch. I was a bit worried that I would be really uncomfortable, but it wasn't a problem at all. It was fun to get to see some of my extended family. :)

Carissa: So now I am worried that my doctor is trying to see me less. I guess I will have to ask them why.
Rancid: I have had 2 u/s's - one at 10 weeks and one at 22 (the big one). Because I had a low-lying placenta at the last one, I get another one, which I am happy about. I just hope the problem has cleared itself up. If not, it is considered placenta previa at that point. It seems that everyone else is having appointments every 2 weeks once they are in the 3rd trimester. I wonder why mine will only be every 3? Hmmmm... I know they do go to every week at some point. I just want to be sure I am getting seen often enough.

Girly76- That is awesome news, I'm so happy for you. SO exciting...
I also know that Ieducate was in our group and she had a loss, but is pregnany and if im not mistaken due in March.
I just think its awesome.
Nursery- Well i have'nt said much about this room because there was nothing much in there, except her comforter set, but this weekend we got her furniture finally, and DH will be putting it all together tonight , and i will clean out the closet. who knows whats in there.:) I'm so relieved i finally feel like im getting somewere i was freakin out because i had nothing but outfits and diapers.
Shower- My mom finally told me when my shower is, Oct 14 so im excited, I cant wait i cant beleive i will be almost 32 weeks man time is flying girls, soon we will have babies.
my dr. appt is the 12th and i will be not even on week away from my third trimester, i wonder if i will go every two or three weeks. ill let you girls know. i still havent been told about a GTT drink.
Speakin of u/s don't we get a total of three, i had one at 9 wks, 18 wks dont we get one right when we go into the third trimester?
'm glad everyone had a great weekend, Here's to a short week.:);)

giry76 - That is great news! Congrats!!!
appts - I go 9/15 for my next appt and the GDT so I will ask about when I go at a more frequent interval. They told me at the beginning but I forget (so much info was given up front!). I know at one point I go every two weeks and then it gets to be weekly. I won't have another U/S unless any issues are detected and everything looks good.

Hi everyone
Congrats giry
mobox the pictures are fabulous, your belly looks so cute.
I will have another u/s at some point, also to check on a low-lying placenta and later this month I do the GCT. I'm not sure when I start going to the midwife more frequently. I have appointments scheduled for the end of this month and the end of next month.

giry76 - Congrats that is wonderful news :D
Rancid - what a great find on the crib.
katmg- it must be quite a relief to have all of that big stuff out of the way. :)
appts - I am not exactly sure when I will move to the two week appts. At my last regular OB visit not the specialist I did the glucose drink. And my doc said to schedule my next appt for three weeks out. So I will see her again on 9/14.
My perinatal specialist has pushed his visits out three weeks now instead of ever two, he says my cervix looks great :D (yes I am proud of my cervix)
Now u/s I can't really say for certain about getting an additional one in the third. I think this is true b/c two girls in my office got great detailed pics in their third trimester.
I get an ultrasound every time I go to the specialist so I can't really judge from my experience. He said at this upcoming apt on 9/18 we were going to attempt the 3D pics. I was like cool.

giry76 - congratulations! I am so happy for you and wish you the best with your pregnancy.
sophiapb - Sending hugs your way for you still having m/s after all these weeks. I don't know how you are doing it. I was able to cut down to 1 zofran a day but haven't been too bad for a while now. Sorry you are still having a rough time and I hope you feel better soon.
appts - I go for my next appointment on 9/13 and will meet with a new doctor in my groups practice. I hope I like her. I also got a slip last time to go for my 1 hr GTT but was told I need to be at least 25 weeks which isn't until next week.
Has anyone else just been not feeling good lately? For the past week or so, I have just been feeling sick a lot. I have terrible heartburn, I get short of breath easily, I feel tired all the time, my ankles are starting to swell and I just don't have much stamina to meet the days challenges (especially with 18 month old twin boys!) Sorry for the complaining. I know that time is going really fast but I am just ready for pregnancy to be over and for my new little boy to be here.

I feel so behind in here!!
giry CONGRATS! That's great news!
mobox... you look fantastic!! Your belly is so cute. Sorry it's getting hard climbing stairs.
appointments... ok not to sound like a complete moron but when does the 3rd trimester start? I've seen so many conflicting weeks as the start of the 3rd tri... Am I the only one whose OB does u/s at every appointment? I didn't realize that wasn't normal. I'm not complaining because I love seeing my little guy. My next appointment is 9/11 and OB hasn't even mentioned when the GTT will be. I suppose I should ask.
nursery... It's all coming together! I'll have to post more pictures when I get most of it done. I'm painting Dr. Seuss murals on three walls. So far only one is done. Furniture has all been purchased/painted. We bought my glider this weekend and will be delivered in a month. Now if only I would get cracking on buying clothes and diapers. I swear my kid will be naked for a long time at this rate.
Here's the first wall:

general feeling... I've been really tired lately. I'm not as bad as I was during the first trimester but I've got no energy by the middle of the afternoon. And I'm moody... like MOODY. I don't even want to be around myself somedays. It's horrible.

Sandy-I love the painting! And you are so lucky to get an u/s everytime. I just get 2 unless there is something wrong. I would love to see my little guy again though.
Welcome mommy2allyandaveri!
I am leaving in a couple of days to go to CA, I can't wait to hit up some stores like BabyGap, Old Navy, Gymboree, etc. We don't have any stores like that where we live. I am a little nervous, okay ALOT nervous to be flying by myself mostly because of my litle boy that I will be leaving at home. At least the trip is really short.

Sandy: I think many books say that the third trimester is actually longer than the rest and starts when you start your 26th week. But I have seen conflicting things about it. I figure that in my 28th week, I am definitely in it by now!
I definitely do not get an u/s every time. Even with a potential problem, I will only be getting my third at about 34 weeks. Lucky you!!
BTW, great mural! I am painting murals too, but they are nowhere as professional looking as yours!! WOW!!
I have to say I feel very lucky. Except for the occasional BH contraction (which really does not even hurt) I can almost forget I am PG. I feel so good. I just hope this lasts well into the third trimester! Of course, it really helps that I am already done with work and can rest whenever I need to!

Sandy - Beautiful mural! I can't wait to see the whole room done!
I'm hoping to get the nursery moving along here shortly. DH bought a ceiling fan last night that he'll install soon. He got it with a remote b/c he wanted to make sure that the baby and I would be comfortable if I'm in the glider nursing. :) Our moms are coming to paint the room next weekend and the crib, glider and ottoman should all be in soon! I may also try to get MIL to help me make some valances for the window.

Rancid - what a great find on the crib.
Yeah, my mom gets props for that! The only problem right now is that the crib is fully assembled and BRU won’t take it apart so we have to get one of our friends who has a truck to help transport it the 5 or so miles from BRU to our house.
Kimmer~ Glad to hear that your cervix is looking great! It sounds odd saying that to someone, LOL! That’d be awesome if you got to get the 3D u/s. I’ll have to find out at my next appt if we get to have a 3rd trimester u/s too.
Has anyone else just been not feeling good lately?
Memememememe!!! I haven’t been feeling sick or having heartburn, but I’ve been feeling very uncomfortable and generally like crap a great deal of the time. I was whining to DH last night about my disbelief that women would actually willingly go through this (pregnancy) more than once…I told him this was it for me. I’m just past the 6-month mark and soooo ready for it to all be over. I’m just tired of being pregnant and feeling like crap all the time. I'm ready to feel more like my old self again... :(
Welcome and congratulations, mommy2allyandaveri!! :)
ok not to sound like a complete moron but when does the 3rd trimester start? I've seen so many conflicting weeks as the start of the 3rd tri... Am I the only one whose OB does u/s at every appointment? I didn't realize that wasn't normal.
I think the 3rd trimester starts right around week 27, but I could be mistaken. :confused: For me personally, I decided that 13w2d was the start of the 2nd trimester, and that the 3rd would therefore start at about 26w4d or 5d. Because 13w2d x 3 = approx. 40 weeks. I haven’t had an u/s at every ob appt, consider yourself very lucky! We have gotten to hear the heartbeat at every appt, but only the initial u/s then the more detailed one to check on the cysts and development a few weeks later. Your nursery wall is looking good! I love Dr Seuss!! And I love the dresser you have in there too, we’re getting black furniture for our nursery as well.
I *think* we're done traveling for now so, I can finally catch up on all that's been going on here.
Heartburn I have it ALL.THE.TIME. I am going to buy stock in Tums. I currently have a vanilla milkshake sitting on my desk to calm my firepit of a stomach.
Weight Gain I haven't had the time to be OCD about it lately. I'm sure that I'm well over 20 pounds at this point (my butt is evening out my belly.) Showers do not help the diet. My parents bought a Dairy Queen ice cream cake for the shower we had this past weekend per my request. OMG was it yummy. Traveling, in general, makes eatting well difficult. We did do a decent job of keeping up with my walking routine while we were away.
Nursery It's still filled with junk. The crib bumper I ordered from an ebay seller shipped yesterday. Luckily, my parents are keeping all of the items from this past weekend's shower at their house until they visit in October. I still need to go to Home Depot and pick out paint and a ceiling fan. We're waiting to order the furniture until the first weekend in October when my parents are visiting because we're still dealing with the bathroom remodel and the ensuing tower of boxes due to that.
QOTD/Advice...If any of you are thinking about getting pro belly shots done, start looking for a photographer (I can probably help you locate one in your area through my contacts if you PM me.) Many of them do a baby's first year package that will include maternity photos. The really nice thing about a pro in lieu of a mall store is that they will come to your home to do the photos. Yes, it's most likely going to be a little more expensive than the mall but, the one on one attention and the less-hassle factor start making it worth a lot more. You're more likely to feel more comfortable and try somethings that you won't get from the mall studios. Yes, I'm doing them. The woman who shoots weddings with me does them all the time...we're working out a trade.

Welcome mommy2allyandaveri!
Giry Congratulations on your pregnancy--what wonderful news!:D
Janu That's great that everything checked out ok.
3rd Trimester Most sources I've seen have the third trimester starting in the 28th week although I did see one book that had it real early--like week 25 or 26.
HeartburnIt's relatively mild at this point. I remember with my last pg, by late in the last trimester the heartburn was awful, so I expect it will get worse.
I had an OB visit yesterday and all looks great. My weight gain is at about 16 lbs, and my doctor said that's fine. I'll do the GTT and get my Rhogham shot at my next appointment, which is on September 27. For the most part I feel great. I need a little more sleep than normal to feel rested and my lower back has been hurting, but on the whole, I really feel good. I haven't had to cut back on my running yet at all, so I am just going to keep with it until I feel like my body needs to take it easy.
We told my DD about the baby this past weekend, and she was so adorable. Her eyes got huge and she just kept saying "There's a baby boy in mommy's belly!?" She loves to listen to his heartbeat with the doppler.

teresita that is such a cute story about DD. When you think about it must be pretty amazing to her. It's amazing to me.
Welcome mommy2aliandavery!
janu I am glad everything looks ok.
Hi snoopy30 thanks for the kind words.
I think Ericka_Jarrett stopped in here to wish us well once, didn't she? I cheer people along on the TTC boards and she dropped in with a picture of her new little boy. He's 5 weeks early so he's in NICU but he's doing great and it seems like they are just waiting to make sure he's eating enough before they release him. Big congrats to Ericka and Jarrett.
heartburn I have not had it. Actually, I have never had heartburn before, kind of odd huh? Of course I could never really burp out loud before either and now that I'm pg I can't stop :)
I have been feeling good. Really, I can't complain. I can go in for my GCT anytime next week or the week after. I have m/w appointments on 9/27 and 10/25. They have said nothing about my weight gain. I have gained 12 lbs so far. Last month I gained 1 lb. This seemed impossible to me but they told me not to worry. I was heavy to start with so maybe they figure I've got it covered :D

According to You and Your Baby: Pregnancy Week by Week by Dr. Laura Riley, OBGYN...the 2nd trimester is weeks 13-24 and the third trimester starts with week 25. That is what I've been going by. I believe they do it that way due to the development of the baby in those particular weeks.
We finally picked out nursery colors: Green and Brown. I'm hoping for a sage green and a dark brown. We are going with this "theme" in the nursery although it's not really a theme. We opted for a breathable white bumper so basically it's the just the colors here that I'm building off of.
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000BR3U3Q.16._SCLZZZZZZZ_SS384_.jpg
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000BR3U86.16._SCLZZZZZZZ_SS384_.jpg

And then we will paint the wallls half and half with the chocolate brown on the bottom and the lighter sage on top. My friends mom is going to make us the curtains because I can't find anything I like! I'm excited that we have that decision made.
We registered last weekend. We are going with Target and Right Start. I think we covered all our bases but I have a feeling we are forgetting things that we'll need. How do you know???

Mobox, love the colors you picked, we are going with sage color on the walls too for our nursery.

I asked my sister in law to look at my registry, she had 3 kids and she knows what you need, she gave me really good feedback on what I need more off, and what not to bother with. I am sure you have friends or family members with small children, ask them, they will know :)

Trimester I like this website http://www.ivfer.com/pg_calc.htm
When is the first trimester over? Well, it depends on who you ask or what website you're using. From my reading and web browsing I've found three basic ways of dividing up a pregnancy into trimesters: development, gestation, conception. They give very different dates for when the second trimester begins but basically the same date for when the third trimester begins. Does it really matter exactly when you're out of the first trimester? No. The miscarriage rate doesn't miraculously drop on a specific date, it constantly goes down throughout the entire first trimester. By 12 weeks the chance of miscarriage is <2%. What follows is a short description of each method of calculating trimesters and JavaScript applet that figures them out for you.
Development
This method uses actual developmental stages to divide up a pregnancy. From LMP to 12 weeks the embryo develops all the major organs, becomes a fetus, and the placenta takes over control. From 12 weeks to 27 weeks the fetus continues developing and reaches viability. From 27 weeks on the fetus finishes development and prepares for delivery. Here the second trimester begins at 12w0d and the third at 27w0d.
Gestation
This is a mathematical method where you take the 40 week gestation and divide by three. Here the second trimester begins at 13w3d and the third at 26w6d.
Conception
Another mathematical method where you take the 38 weeks of post-conception development, divide by three, and add two weeks. Here the second trimester begins at 14w5d and the third at 27w3d.

rosa you look great!
The whole trimester/what month is this question always throws me. I didn't understand why pregnant women, when you ask how far long they are, would say how many weeks they are. Now I get it.

Thank you for the warm welcome everyone!
I just got my c-section scheduled for 11/29 or 11/30 but I'm not really due until December. Should I join the November group? I'll go ahead and post like I sitll belong here...
Heartburn: Haven't gotten it at all, didn't with my last pregnancy either...
Weightgain: Unfortunately that is my curse. I gain a ton of weight while pregnant. I am a little over 26 weeks now and I think I am almost to 30 lbs. I'm not looking at the scale anymore:rolleyes: Here is a picture of me at 25w1d:

Rosa727 You look great, I wish I were still that small...
Ultrasounds: I'm lucky, I've had lots. I work at the hospital I am going to deliver at so I just pop into OB/GYN whenever and have an ultrasound or listen to the heartbeat.
Nursery: Just about done. We still have the chair rail to put up between the green and white and we are waiting for her letters to come in the mail. Here are a couple of pictures:

Hey ladies!! I'm in another one of my predicments!!
There has been construction going on at my job for the past week, no big deal didnt bother me much. but over the weekend I guess they painted the walls or something and this morning when i came in the smell is horrirendous!!!
It hasen't given me a headace just yet, but i am more concerned about the fumes i am smelling might hurt the baby... What should i do? My boss is the type that won't care and will just say it'll be okay. I have another co-worker who is a few months behind me and her docs says if she starts to feel sick she should leave.

janu: Yeah, if it really smells a lot, you probably should not be around it, especially if you don't know what type of paint they used (oil-based is a lot worse than latex). I don't think you should have to just sit there and subject yourself to something that may be dangerous. I would say you should definitely go if you start to feel sick in any way, but even if you don't actually FEEL sick, I would talk to your boss. You could always fib a bit and say your doctor told you not to be around any paint.
Good luck!
mommy2alyandaveri: I think you look really good! And the nursery looks great too! Lucky you, getting an u/s whenever you want it!

Mobox~ I’m loving the nursery colors you’ve chosen! Sage and brown sound like they’ll together very well. Good choice! ITA with ya on registering~I had a few people who have little ones go over my registry to make sure I wasn’t leaving anything major off and got thumbs up from them. :cool:
Rosa~ Cute belly shots!! We’re right around the same # of weeks pg, but my belly looks so much bigger, LOL! I’ll try to get some updated pics this week, assuming the skin irritation on my belly goes away (little red bumps don’t make for a pretty belly pic!). :o
Mommy2allyandaveri~ You’re looking great!! I hear ya on the weight thing. I know I should avoid the scale and tell the dr. I’m not interested in hearing how many lbs I’ve gained since the last appt unless there’s a major problem, but I can’t seem to stop from looking. The nursery is looking adorable, I love it! :)
Janu~ If the fumes are really bothering you, I say you have good reason to leave. Unless you can be moved to a very well-ventilated area with plenty of fresh air and/or fans/A/C to help keep the air moving. As Rosa said, there’s no reason you should subject yourself and your baby to something that could potentially be dangerous. :confused:
You know that you look big when you show up to a party and someone exlaims, "Holy Belly." (Um, thanks???) I discovered this past weekend that a good number of my pg tops no longer cover up the waistband of my pants. So, I went shopping for some big long sleeve tops that I'll still have room to grow into. JCPenny has a decent selection of tops that I can wear to work and they all are an additional 25% off. My office is freezing so, the long sleeves are in order.
BTW, BRU has a coupon right now for $5 off $25. It's good until October 15. You can only use one coupon per visit/guest.

Welcome Mommy2allyandaveri! You look fantastic. The scale...jumping on and watching the arm spin up higher and higher is nerve-wracking.
Mobox...I showed my friend (who is a huge Republican supporter) the elephant bedding and she went nuts. She doesn't have any kids yet but is in love with your bedding.
Rosa...you're still so tiny. Good for you. Are you still wearing "normal" pants??? The shorts in your photo look so cute.
Janu...go home if you feel icky and don't go back until the fumes are gone. It's just not worth risking your health.
I'm exhausted today so, I'm going home. Hopefully, I can sleep better than I have been the past few nights.

Same here! Over the weekend DH said to me, "Hon, looks like you're gonna have to get some longer shirts to get you through the last few months!". No duh!! :eek:

fms: Awww thanks! No way am I wearing normal bottoms though! Those shorts are from Motherhood, actually. I wear them a lot. I like that they look like normal shorts.
You are reminding me that I think I am going to need a few more long-sleeved tops. I got almost all summer maternity stuff and I know it will be chilly by November at least.

I am so happy to say that after 26w6d I have only gained 25lbs.:D This is great for me because last time I gained a total of 60:eek:
I have 11 weeks to go before my scheduled c-section. How many do you think I will gain in that time? If I can keep it under 50lbs I will be thrilled!!

:eek: Holy Crap! That is so...SOON! I guess I have longer since I'm really due at the very end of December, but that is a very scary thought!
Oh and isn't there some sort of guideline like '1 lb. per week in the last trimester'?
