Acck! I looked at my ticker today and I am in the double digits already it is like 96 days until the baby. Ok I am totally not ready I have a lot of work to do. :eek:

Am I the only one?

You're so not the only one!! The other day DH asked me how many weeks I would be at this week, and I told him 29. He freaked out when I pointed out that meant 11 weeks to go...I mini-freak out almost every day about it because I feel so un-ready. :o :eek:

When you break it down by weeks or days it is just around the corner!!! Saying the end of November seems like forever away but 11 weeks, I swear that is like next week... And only like 8 until I am off work...

I have a lot to do too.

Add me to the list of those freaking out about how soon my baby will be here! I am officially due at the beginning of December, but because he was measuring so far ahead at the u/s, I am thinking he may be here around Thanksgiving! I guess I will see what it looks like at the next u/s. I have a mental list of about 100 things left to do!!!

I am not freaking out too much yet but I do feel like there is still a lot to do! I think we are painting the nursery this weekend, the crib came in last weekend and I have the bedding. My friend's shower is not until 11/4 so I am trying to hold off on buying anything until after that. (That looks like it will be my only one since last time my mom and I were talking about showers she told me it wasn't appropriate for her to have one. Whatever..I can't imagine me not doing one for my daughter if nobody else offered but that's her problem. Who makes up these weird rules and why is she worried about what anyone thinks?...I digress)

mommy2allyandaveri - Cute pics and that is great news on the weight gain being less than last time!

mobox - is teh polka dot sheet you posted from Little House? That looks like my bedding just in a different color. I love the color choice!

ok , I have pics ready to post but what sites can we now use to post pics? I used to use shutterfly but that no longer works I guess?

Rosa and mommy2alyandaveri You guys look great!

I can’t believe how time is flying by! I am not so worried about being ready in the sense of having gear since we have most things from DD. I am more concerned with being emotionally/mentally prepared. I feel so spoiled by having a toddler—she is so independent and easy compared to having a newborn. As thrilled as I am to be having this little guy, there is still a part of me that is fearful of how I will juggle everything. I think my main concern is that work is going to be hellishly busy for DS’s first few months. And, if his first few months are anything like my DD’s (no sleep, nursing 24/7, constant state of exhaustion), I’m in trouble!:eek: Anyway, I’m hoping somehow in these next couple of months I will arrive at a state of Zen-like calm about all of this. :cool:

We are heading out of town tonight (1 am red eye flight with a two-year-old in tow—what fun!) since both DH and I have meetings and work-related stuff in Houston. (We’ll be tag-teaming it with taking care of DD.) We’ll be gone for a week, but for the last three days, I won’t have to work and will get a chance to visit my sister, BIL, and my niece and nephew, so I am excited about that. This should be the last time I have to travel before the baby comes—hurray for that! :)

Teresita: Wow - you are one busy woman! Good luck with your trip, enjoy the time with your family, and YAY!!! for no more travel before the baby gets here :D

Had a doctor's appointment yesterday - seemed to go well, this was the first time in a while that we didn't have some problem or big thing to discuss. It was nice to just have a normal visit. We did talk about when my cerclage will come out - 36 weeks. If they can do it in the office, great - if not then we'll wait until 38 weeks and take it out with an epidural and do an induction at that time.

DH got the nursery taped off last night and I cleaned baseboards and the wooden shutters and windows in the room. Should be ready to start painting! :D

hi ladies-
Add me to the list of people being freaked out. DH says, "oh, we still have 3 months!!" and I say, "we only have 3 months!!" We don't have ANYTHING yet it seems besides a painted nursery. No gear, no clothes...I guess I'm just anxious for our shower in a few weeks.

But, has anyone had pain in their tailbone? I think this little bug has situated just so that there is lots of pressure on my lower back and tailbone. I can hardly move without it being a pain in the butt (literally!!) my mw doesn't seem to think its a big deal, but man, I can't believe I'm super uncomfy already!! sigh. bring on the extra pillows and DH pulling me out of bed.

Kimmer
09-13-2006, 09:03 AM
Sunshine - For posting pics I think you can use photobucket or snapfish. I use photo bucket.

katmg - I am counting down the days until my cerclage is out as well. I am hoping that when he takes it out at 36w labor will come naturally, he said he can remove it in the office. I hope this is still his opinion when he goes in next week. :rolleyes:

Are you on bedrest or just pelvic rest?

katmg
09-13-2006, 11:19 AM
Kimmer - Actually, my doctor hasn't had me on pelvic or bed rest. After the cerclage she said that I could go back to *fairly* normal. I was surprised about that but she is pretty conservative in her approach, so I trust her. She said not to go overboard with exercise and physical activity - no jumping on the trampoline, etc. :p There has pretty much been self-imposed pelvic rest over here - more out of fear and lack of interest than doctor's orders. I have been pleasantly surprised at how non-eventful having this cerclage has been - especially since I'll have to have one for any future pregnancies.

Freaking a little here. I have been trying to spend time every night clearing a little more junk from our junk bedroom. OMG we have a lot of crap. I did get a little sad last night as I was moving my wedding dress box from place to place...I then proceeded to open our wedding album and look at photos of myself with hip bones. I miss my hip bones.

I had terrible dreams last night that have left me feeling unsettled. (I have never dreamt it was a boy...only a girl so, I'm starting to think of it as a her.) I'm no longer going to watch the news, read blogs or listen to NPR...just.can't.deal. Yesterday was a difficult day for me b/c I read a blog post from an acquantance who got totally bashed by the name-less typing hordes of the internet. People are so quick to judge and so mean when they can hide behind the computer!
http://blog.washingtonpost.com/onbalance/2006/09/ten_million_words.html#comments

In general, I think I'm getting used to my pg self and the aches and pains associated with it so I'm never sure what kind of fun a new day will bring.

Glad to hear that we're all chugging along well! :)

I'm glad to see that everyone seems to be doing well. I had a doctors appointment today and all is going well. I met with a new doctor in the practice. She was really nice and has 3 little ones herself (her youngest is 11 weeks) so it's nice to know she can relate to how you are feeling, etc. She said I am at a higher risk for pre-eclampsia since I got it last time but they will monitor me closely. She also went over warning signs for pre-term labor. It was a very informative visit. My next doctors visit is on 10/3.

I go for my 1hr glucose test in 2 weeks and will schedule my c-section once we get to 30 weeks (thats only 5 weeks away!). Now I feel like it's getting really close which makes me excited to meet my new little boy and not be pregnant anymore but scared because I am not sure how my boys will react to the baby and it's going to be really hard with a newborn and 22 month old twins.

fms I hear you on the decluttering and making room for baby. Every weekend we do a room and have thrown out/donated so much junk. It's amazing how fast our house collected stuff!

I had my 24 week dr appointment on Monday. Everything looks good on the baby front. He apparently has really big feet. No wonder I feel all bruised on the inside! I go do my GTT next week. I'm starting to feel aches and pains in the my back and while I'm sleeping. I've always been a stomach sleeper so having to sleep on my side is quite the adjustment. I wake up every morning feeling like my hips are sore.

I haven't started freaking out that d-day is getting closer. It still doesn't feel real!!

fms - I am definitely another one that has ti figure out where to put all teh stuff that is currently in Baby G's room. I already cleared out the closet (well almost). I had to get one of clothes storage rack things from Bed, Bath, and Beyond to stick in the basement. I don't have to wear suits everyday but am not ready top get rif of the suits I have since I spent $$$ on them. The rest of the junk is this weekend's project since DH will be painting.

ok, let's try some pics (finally!)

NJMom You are going to have your hands full!

Sunshine Cute belly!

Freaking out I am just freaking out about getting the nursery done because really it is taking a while to get all the junk out. We still have a ways to go on it although the baby won't be sleeping in there for the first few weeks.

You look adorable, Sunshine!! :D

pain in their tailbone? Yes, on occasion. Baby sure likes to move around in there, and sometimes situates himself in such a position that it puts pressure on my lower back/tailbone area until he chooses to move again. Other times he puts pressure on my bladder so I constantly feel like I have to pee, even when I've just finished using the bathroom. :rolleyes:

NJmom~ Glad to hear that all checked well at your dr's appt! Here's hoping you won't get PE this time around.

Sandy~Yay for a good appt! LOL re: big feet. Sounds like he's been putting those things to good use, beating you up inside, eh? I'm having trouble sleeping on my side too~normally I'm a back sleeper and oftentimes wake up in the middle of the night (or when my alarm goes off) on my back. Ah, well. :o

freaking out maybe a little. I think I would feel better if we could find a dresser we liked and I could start to get the nursery organized. Right now everything is in piles.

aches and pains you know, so far this hasn't been too bad. Since I used to sleep on my stomach I am most uncomfortable at night trying to sleep. Lately I have been wondering if I won the pregnancy lottery or if all the prenatal yoga is really working. Of course now I have probably just tempted the fates :)

fms people on the internet can be so mean, I guess because it's so easy to be anonomously ugly. That's one of the reasons I really like cc, there's very little of that and most of it seems to be a misunderstanding because it's hard to infer tone.

sunshine you look great.

sandy that's funny about the feet. Before we saw the sex of the baby on the monitor we saw his hands. I knew then it was a boy...he has DH's big hands!

Let's see, I do the glucose challenge test next week and the week after I have a mw appointment. Then, that Saturday I head out on a cross country road trip with a friend. The following Sunday is our first shower. yay!

I’m just copying and pasting this from my LJ post...apologies in advance about any profanity or typos.

Wouldn't you know it....

The week I'm able to get myself to eat and enjoy salads again, this pops up.

http://articles.news.aol.com/news/_a/e-coli-cases-traced-to-bagged-spinach/20060914195709990002?ncid=NWS00010000000001

So my lovely baby spinach & grilled chicken salad w/grape tomatoes, 1/2 an avocado and red onion slices sits in the fridge untouched and now I get to figure out what to have for lunch today instead of that. :( Booo!!

I had my 29 week doctor's appointment this morning. Hubby forgot the appt again. I did my 'reminder call' to him that he's requested, and he'd completely forgotten about it for the 2nd time (last time was on my bday) and didn't make it, no big deal though.

The big deal is that apparently my blood pressure is higher than they'd like it (wouldn't you know that my bp was also high the last appt he forgot, and the appt he made us late to?), but just the same the dr wants me to buy a blood pressure monitor and monitor my bp at home every day. If it continues to stay above the #'s she wants it to be at, I'm to come back in immediately and get thoroughly checked out and proceed to go on bedrest until 36w. Nice!!!:rolleyes:

I also need to get more bloodwork done in the meantime. She said something about it not being unusual in women's first pregnancies towards the end, something about pre-eclampsia I think it's called?? So we'll see how that goes. Hopefully it's just hubby that's causing me stress/high bp and all will be well. You'd think that 30-minutes of walking in the park on my lunch break and 45 minutes of prenatal yoga would lower my stress level/bp...apparently not.:confused:

I was just reading the Week 29 chapter of my Pregnancy Week by Week book last night and it was all about pre-eclampsia and bed rest and there was this section about things to do to keep from being bored if you're on bed rest. I read through that and thought how much it would suck if I were put on bedrest....as if I don't feel lazy enough already, sitting on my ass all day long @ work!! Geez.

My boss didn't help me feel any better after I told him the situation and potential for bedrest. He said he could see this being a Halloween baby, he wouldn't be surprised if the little one arrived that early. I sure freaking hope not!!! Here's hoping my bp #'s are normal @ home!!

The good news of the day is that I'm measuring at 30cm, so that's right on track for being just over 29w along. No idea what my weight is/was, she didn’t share that w/me (probably because of the tears on my part last time she told me, LOL!!) but according to my home scale, I’m up just over 20lbs over my pre-pg weight.:)

I really need to do SO's but...I'm so happy I could cry. The final pieces of tile for our bathroom redo came in today. I just got the message. We have had such a rough time with this tile supplier and their empty promises but they finally came through for us. I have scheduled the contractor to start on Wednesday. I'm elated at the thought of not having to trek across the house to pee in the middle of the night. Our bathroom has been out of commission since June. My parents are bringing a truckload of new furniture for our bedroom (we currently have boxes of items that need to be installed in the bathroom piled in one corner of our bedroom) when they visit in October so, the timing on everything looks to be working out. It's possible that our house will no longer look like a construction zone and that our "master suite" will actually look like grown-ups, with real jobs, who thought about the space before shoving a bunch of mix matched furniture together, live there. We were quite concerned that the baby would come prior to the bathroom being finished considering the delays we have had. On top of this, I ordered the baby's furniture yesterday. I feel like my list of things to finish is starting to have a clear path. Granted, these next weeks are going to be a LOT of work but, I'm ok with that. I really want to get the rooms done before the holidays/baby arrival.

Rancid-It's good that your doctor is monitoring you closely. I had pre-eclampsia during my last pregnancy and will also be monitored closely because this makes me at higher risk to get it. Let me know if you have any questions about it.

fms-glad you are making progress with getting everything done that you want to before the baby comes. Even though it's a lot of work I'm sure you will feel terrific when it's all done! I have a lot of decluttering/organizing to do too and it seems I just can't find the time/energy and I'm finding it very frustrating.

It is good that I'm being monitored, but I really hope I don't have it. I tested my bp twice since my morning appt, and both times it was below the numbers she wanted it to be below (lower than 140/90). So that's a good sign I think!! :D I'll keep doing this 3x a day & keep a written log of my bp #'s, get my blood work done next week, and hope that all is well!

How was your experience with pre-eclampsia, and did you have to deliver early because of it? Just in case, I'd like to be informed on the conditon. Thanks!!

NJMom
09-16-2006, 04:33 PM
Rancid - I hope you don't get it either. It sounds like you are really doing well. When I had pre-eclampsia last time, I had SEVERE swelling in my ankles, legs and up to my hips (I lost 40lbs in 1 week after having my c-section and my boys only weighed 8lbs 15oz combined!). My blood pressure started going up and I was getting bad headaches a lot. The doctors said they knew I was going to get it based on my symptoms, it was just a matter of when. I was not on offical bedrest, just "house arrest", as my doctor put it.

The day I had my boys, my blood pressure was 159/99 and they sent me to the hospital for monitoring. They ran tests, said I now had pre-eclampsia, they did an emergency c-section 2 1/2 hours later. I was 33 weeks, 1 day along. My boys were born healthy, spent 9 days in the NICU and are doing absolutely great!

Please keep in mind though that I was carrying twins which definately makes a big difference. Twin pregnancies usually don't go full term. This pregnancy hasn't been great but it is SO much easier than last time. This was my experience last time and I really hope that it doesn't make you nervous because it shouldn't. Your doctor sounds like she is really great and there are a lot of things they can do to treat it if you should get it.

Hi all!

Rancid - I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Sounds like you are doing really well, though.

FMS - congrats!!! I'm sure the house will look great, and you certainly don't need any additional stress right now. Just wondering about getting that baby here is more than enough for any of us, I think.

I keep worrying about GD and PE, althought so far I have no signs of either, and I wasn't even close with my last pregnancy. My GTT is scheduled for next week, so that will help calm me down. (I hope!!) Like NJMom said, I keep worrying about the additional "twin" risk factor.

We have all the nursery furniture, except one crib mattress, and have just picked out the second car seat and twin stroller. We're going to paint the nursery a nice light yellow, and then I just need to assemble a crib (one is done already) and put all the bedding and stuff out. We haven't picked out wall decorations yet, but I'm pretty sure I know where we're getting them. I feel like if I could just get that darn room painted, we'd be ready! That would mean actually going to a store and choosing paint, though, and DH and I for some reason keep putting that off...oh, yeah, and we STILL haven't picked out a name for our new son. Sigh. Gotta do that...Anyone else still name-less? So, like pacificbliss, freaking out just a little bit.

Finally, I have decided once and for all to stop stressing about the weight. I'm at 25.5 weeks and have gained 30 lbs. I"m supposed to gain 40-50 before I hit 36 weeks, so if I just put on 1 lb per week I'll be there. Doesn't sound so hard, so, yeah for me! I can't wait for my appt on Thursday when I get to see these kids moving around again!

rosa727
09-17-2006, 07:49 AM
AmyE: We still have not picked a name for our little guy yet either. We have "narrowed" it down to 10 names. That is seriously a big deal for us. We are just trying to REALLY think this through thoroughly, I guess!

************************************************** ****

Nursery We went and picked up our glider at USA Baby yesterday, which was exciting. DH is currently putting the last coat of paint on the unfinished wood bookshelf that we bought, and then the furniture will all be in the room. We finished painting (I did three murals) and steam-cleaning the carpet too. We installed a dimmer switch and new cordless blinds too. And we put a new closet system in (it's a smal walk-in). So now we are just doing the fun stuff - putting everything away! We went to BRU yesterday and went crazy! We already had two of our showers, so we were getting what we still needed. We have one more shower, but it is a lot of people we don't know as well, so it will probably be mostly little things and diapers.

BH contractions I am having tons of these and they make me nervous because the fact that I may have placenta previa (was last time they looked) puts me at a high risk for pre-term labor. I guess if it is still like that at my next u/s they are going to set a date for a C-section. I think it will be around 37 weeks, so before Thanksgiving. That would stink, but at least I would know when he was coming.

AmyE: We still haven't picked out a name for our son. It is so hard to decide. I did buy a baby name book so maybe I can find something in there that we like.

rosa-Wow, 3 showers! How cool! You are very lucky!

I flew last weekend to the San Francisco Bay Area to attend my friend's baby shower. The shower lasted over 5 hours! It was way too long! I did get a little shopping in though at Gymboree during their sales event and bought a few cute things for the baby. So far, we have one more trip to Boston at the end of the month.

weight- I have gained a ton of weight, I have no idea how, I pretty much just look at food and gain pounds just by looking.

fms-I can totally relate except we have been remodeling this house going on 3 years now and it is driving me crazy! Right now our toilet in our master doesn't work so I have to walk to the other one during the night and also our shower door is not on so I have to use the other bathroom to shower too. I am so tired of living in a home improvement on going project I could scream!

I am still having major groin pain.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Hey everyone! I made it back safe and sound from my last business trip to NYC. Although my flight Friday night was delayed over 6 hours. NOt fun for a pregnant lady. I basically sampled all the food in the Jet Blue terminal at JFK....:rolleyes:

I keep reading in all the books/newsletters that persistant lower back pain is not good and you should call your doc right away. Well, I have had that for about 3-4 weeks and I told her at my last appt and she said that was normal. Is it becasue it could be a sign of pre-term labor??? Does anyone else have it?

Other than that I feel good. One other thing that bothers me is that I get this weird dull, sometimes sharp pain in my left side, down very low where my thigh meets my groin. It's hard to describe but it's been bothering me a lot. I just keep thinking I'll wait until my appt next week to tell her.....

Kimmer

Mobox - I have been having dull and at times sharp pain since last Thursday. I was totally freaked out it was pre-term labor. We called the doc on call Sat night and went in to the hospital to get it checked out. I was hooked up to the monitors for about four hours and she said that the pains are not contractions. I is just normal. I am like great no relief, I have no idea what contractions feel like (1st baby)

~~~
We had our hospital tour Sat. It was so cool seeing the birthing room it is huge you can totally have about 30 people in the room, not that I would :p
One of the ladies her mom was accompanying her on the tour and she collapsed into tears and loud sobs as soon as we got into the birthing room, it was sweet but quite funny. Her daughter was mortified and told her "if you don't stop it mom I am going to make you wait in the hall"
I love that the baby is not removed from the room at all, they take care of everything right in the birthing suite.
My next apt is 9/27 I am now on the two week rotation :)
Good morning!
back pains - my back hurts maybe a few times a week but I think it is more due to something I have done. For example, I sat in a folding chair on Sat while at Cirque Du Soleil (which was great by the way!) and then at our block party for the rest of the night. So my butt back hurt that day and yesterday.
Dr appt - had my appt on Friday and I failed teh glucose test :mad: So I get to go and do the 3 hour test on Thursday. I am really going to watch what I eat this week b/c I don't want to fail again! If anything, I'll just take this as I need more veggies and other good things and I need to cut back on my sweet tooth. Not that I go overboard, I mean if that is the worst thing I do right now I hope it is not taken away. I'll just try not to have them every day. I haven't gained lots of weight so that is a good sign. My next appt is in 4 weeks and then I go at a two week interval for a few appts.
fms - that is great news about your house! I am we'll all be crazy enough with new babies without having to worry about house issues so congrats on the progress!
rancid - I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that you don't have any issues. At leastthey're keeping a close eye on you.
------
My DH painted the nursery this weekend and the color looks great so I'll have to take pics once the crib is together. I need to figure out what I want for window treatments. Our windows swing open into the room so normal blinds won't really work if we want to be able to open the window. I may order some new shutters (the kind that also swing open) and maybe do valances.
My DH and I took the day off for my b-day today so we are going to go start the registry since I thought it would be a good day since the store hopefully won't be crowded. Not sure what else we'll do. We went to brunch to celebrate yesterday and since I am trying to be a healthy eater I am not sure what we'll do for dinner (no cake though!). My friends also had a mini b-day party while we watched the football games.
I was wondering whether anyone had gotten any good books for AFTER the baby gets here? I am looking for a good baby care book that covers a lot of basics, just to have on hand. DH and I are taking a baby care class, but neither of us has spent a lot of time with babies, so I am looking to also get some books.
Also - I forgot to mention that my next appointment is September 26. That will be 3 weeks since the last one, but I think since I will be in my 31st week, they should really be seeing me every 2 weeks (especially since I may have a placenta issue). I am going to have to talk to the doctor about this, which I hate to have to do. After the 26th, my next appointment is another u/s.
Pain - No real back pain, but my belly feels really heavy and full of pressure for the past couple of days. Not so much fun.
Nursery - DH finally finished painting the nursery yesterday. I have the crib ready to be assembled in there - hopefully tonight or tomorrow! I am anxious to get that going.
Books - I have enjoyed reading Baby 411 (same authors as Baby Bargains, plus a doctor) and The Baby Book by Dr. Sears. They are definitely from opposite ends of the mainstream/crunchy spectrum but I've found both really interesting and very helpful from a 'baby care' standpoint. I have been putting tabs in The Baby Book for DH to read. :)
Good Morning Girls,
Dreams I have not had any dreams out of the norm until this week i have not slept a whole night. I had one dream I was being chased by hairballs and i woke up and started bleaching the side walls and dusting and DH asked me what the heck i was doing at 3:30 in the morning and i told him there were hairballs and i was going to get them out, and if he could clean the fan for me, he said you are crazy we dont have any pets. the worst dream is i keep waking up because soemthing happens to DH, (car accident)and it is so vivid i can remember everything and it comes back every night.
NUrsery We got so much accomplished this weekend, now that the furniture, and crib is up it seems so real, im almost not in shock anymore we still need to get a glider/ottoman and some wall decor, and DH still needs to get his puter out of there. i have been thinking since i got the furniture up, i have a girl comforter girl everything the girl clothes are starting to fill up the closet what am i going to do if this ultrasound tech was wrong and i have a boy, I'am really worried about this has anyone else thought about this? Or is my pregnant brain just taking over. I wish i could calm my fears and have another u/s or somehow make sure just to be reassurred.
Registry We finally registered this weekend, it was fun i bought a few outfits when i was there. my mom told me to do stuff i need, and not to register for bath, toiletries, and diapers and etc.. because thats a given but i think imight go back anyway. Im worrying again:( I was never like this before.
My shower is the 21st of Oct. SO I'am excited.
Classes I signed up for Childbirth classes, and it includes the tour of the hospital, it is for 5 weeks every wed night and starts this wednesday.
back pains I only get them when i go to church teh pew is so hard it just kills to sit there I cant sit still.
books I havent really bought any books yet.
****
I took my GTT thursday and still havent heard anything my doc usually takes a week for everything.
Happy Monday y'all!
I got so much accomplished this weekend now that nesting is in FULL FORCE! I've made room in my office downstairs for a baby changing station so I don't have to go upstairs to the nursery.
Classes Childbirth classes start tonight. We're taking a 6 weeks course from the hospital that includes a tour, breastfeeding, etc. I'm a little nervous because I have no idea what to expect and I'm a horrible student (as in I have a hard time paying attention or retaining anything these days)
Nursery Is almost complete. The walls are done, the crib is up. I'm just waiting for my glider to be delivered and will try to sew curtains this weekend... I have to learn to sew first. :rolleyes:
Not much else going on for me. I'm just waiting patiently for December to roll around. I feel a little bad that my maternal instinct hasn't kicked in yet. Are there any other first time moms who are feeling this way? Or am I the weirdo?
katmg: Thanks for the suggestions!
hospital tour: we took one last week, and I felt so calm after it. It was really helpful and informative. I left feeling like I was ready for this baby to be born :)
birthing classes: Ours run 5 weeks and don't start until October 2. I will probably end up being the furthest along one in there. I only finish 3 weeks before my EDD. We are also taking a separate baby care class in October and I have to decide whether to take a separate breastfeeding class. I will probably take it, although I have my doubts that BF is going to work with me.
Sandy: The nursery looks great!
I have my doubts that BF is going to work with me.
Why do you think BF isn't going to work for you? Have you tried reading any BFing books?
rosa727
09-18-2006, 08:07 AM
Delaney: I have inverted nipples, which I know does not mean I definitely can NOT BF, but from what I have read so far, it seems that it often does not work, especially if they are severely inverted, which at least one of mine is. I'm not sure about the other. Anyway, I am probably going to try, but I also don't want to spend tons of time being frustrated and upset during the baby's first few days over something I am not going to be successful at. My doctor was not really sure whether it would work and gave me the number of a lactation consultant, who I plan to call. So I will see. Even the most pro-BF books and sites I have seen seem to admit that it can be impossible in my situation.
One other thing that bothers me is that I get this weird dull, sometimes sharp pain in my left side, down very low where my thigh meets my groin. It's hard to describe but it's been bothering me a lot.
I get that too but mostly at night. It eases up when I apply pressure to it but is still annoying.
I had my 26 week u/s on Friday and everything looks good. Moxie Crimefighter is doing very well and growing on schedule. The cord blood flow was checked since that was the issue I had last time but so far all is well on that point. I am getting LOADS of movement and sometimes feel like my uterus is hosting a high kicking karate demonstration. As long as that I feel that a few times a day, I can rest easy. :D
I am still having nausea issues but feel less paranoid about popping a Zofran than I did in the first trimester. One Zofran will usually get me through the whole day and I rarely need it more than a couple of times a week. I've only gained three pounds this whole pregnancy since I've lost so much from being sick but that happened last time too so I'm not freaking too much.
I also had my GTT on Friday but haven't heard the results yet. The doctor made me take one at 16 weeks and I passed without a problem. Last pregnancy I had no issues so I don't expect anything this time. Although I did eat three Taco Bell tacos an hour before drinking that glucose drink. Yikes, I hope I didn't screw anything up because of a Taco Bell jones! :p
All the nurseries posted look great! I should get my butt in gear and post some pictures to Photo Bucket so I can show off our nursery. Aigh, I'm just too lazy so I'll sit back for a while and appreciate all the lovely murals and decor choices that are posted and live vicariously through you all. ;)
Edited to comment to Rosa. My friend has severely inverted nipples and she breastfed her son until he was over two years old. She really thought she would have a problem but it turned out to be a non-issue. Not saying that you will be problem free, just saying that it does work sometimes.
Thanks everyone for the finger crossing, so far it looks like my bp is doing just fine. I think it might spike up at dr’s appts but is fine on a day-to-day basis as I go about my normal daily activities.
NJMom~ So far so good on the blood pressure front! I’ve been monitoring and recording it 2-3x per day and the highest it’s been was 139/56 and the lowest 118/54. Doc doesn’t want it to be above 140/90 for the most part, so I’ve been below that every time I’ve monitored it. I haven’t had any swelling whatsoever~I think lots of people were shocked at my shower this weekend that I was wearing heels/wedges with my dress…the other preggo there (who’s 4w ahead of me) said she resorted to flip-flops only months ago. Pre-e sounds awful!! I’m hoping I’m in a safe zone with my bp and light-to-moderate exercise activity and am able to slip on by without getting it!:)
AmyE~ I was worried about GD too, particularly because of my fondness for sugary and carb-loaded foods and b/c I’m ½ Hispanic (high risk group for GD) but (thankfully!!) I passed the 1-hour GTT w/flying colors. I have made it a point to eat more nutritiously over the last month since the GTT though (more protein, whole wheat/grains, veggies, and less sugary, carb-loaded snacks). We’ve picked out a first name, which we’ve just been recently sharing with family/friends but are stumped on a middle name. DH asked me last night if we can stop stressing & take our time with the middle name because he really wants to pick a good one.:confused:
Lower back pain~ My mom said she had it with me, and ended up going into back labor at the end and says it all had to do with the way I was positioned in there. I’ve had a few days of extreme lower-back pain/pressure and “walked it off” and did some yoga stretching to help combat it. I brought it up with my doc and she said it was normal. I get all kinds of aches and pains that are apparently all “normal” according to her. Normal perhaps, but annoying & oftentimes painful!!:(
Kimmer~ Your hospital sounds wonderful! Huge room, wow!
Sunshine~ Sorry to hear you failed the 1-hour GTT…here’s hoping you pass the 3-hour though! I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you.
Books~ I haven’t bought any yet but I have a few on my Amazon.com wish list that I’ll be purchasing soon. Birthing from Within: An Extra-Ordinary Guide to Childbirth Preparation by Pam England, Rob Horowitz; The Birth Partner, Second Edition by Penny Simkin. How My Breasts Saved the World: Misadventures of a Nursing Mother by Lisa Wood Shapiro. Spilled Milk: Breastfeeding Adventures and Advice from Less-Than Perfect Moms by Andy Steiner. I’m open to all other suggestions/recommendations as well.
Birthing classes~ We start our classes at the beginning of October and they run the whole month, as well as the first few days of November. We have 6 2-hr birthing classes, a breastfeeding class, baby care basics class, baby saver class, and a postpartum class. I’m relishing what’s left of September b/c October is going to be tiring!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Shower: We had my shower over the weekend. It was held at my mom's house and hosted by her and my BFF. The theme was an "Under the Sea" thing, and it was decorated SOOOO freaking adorable! I thought I'd walked into an aquarium!! Our nursery theme is going to be sea turtles (CoCaLo's Turtle Bay bedding/decor) and ocean-type stuff so it fit perfectly! Once someone emails me pictures, I'll post a few, it was that adorable! Even my brother and dad were impressed with how it looked when they saw it.

About 20 people attended, and MIL even flew in from Hawaii last week in order to make it (and she might stay in town until after the baby's born). We got a handful of things that were on our registry like I mentioned in my reply to Kyrsten above, but we did get a lot of neat stuff that I'm sure we'll need (along with necessities like wipes, powder, diapers, etc). TONS of clothes, toys and blankets. We must have like 10 blankets now. We also received cash and gift certs for BRU which we'll put towards purchases of necessities that weren't bought off our registry. All in all, it was a very fun day and I had an absolute blast! I went home and took a 3-hour nap when it was all over.

My grandma even stopped by for about an hour. Long story short, there was this big to-do about my shower date conflicting with a prior commitment of hers (which involved being at home all day cooking enchiladas for a church function) and she went so far as to call my mom and BFF to see if they could "change the date" for her because it didn't work with her schedule. Yeah...

Baby's room: Some of you may (or may not) recall me months ago saying that we weren't going to do a nursery at our condo b/c we were looking to upgrade to a larger (3 bedroom) home in early 2007. That's not likely to happen. We're probably looking to move mid to late 2007 instead at the very earliest, so we're working on getting DH's stuff out of the 2nd bedroom so we can use it as a nursery. So far he's moved the computer desk & computer into the front room and moved out 80% of his collectibles and put some of them into boxes for storage.

On Weds he's going to rent a climate-controlled storage space (wouldn't you know, all the places we called yesterday aren't open on Sundays for new rentals) so he has a spot to put his stuff till we move into a larger home. He's also listed his Xbox and 40" plasma tv (it's an extra~he won it in a contest last year~we already have a 61" as our regular tv in the main room) for sale. Once we get that storage space, we can clear out a bunch of stuff and start cleaning and prepping for painting and moving in the (still-needs-to-be-picked-up) crib and other to-be-bought furniture. Can't wait!!

Happy Monday everyone. I can't believe how fast September is going.

rancid the shower sounds like it was a lot of fun. I'm glad your bp is staying down. I am always nervous anytime I visit a Dr. or mw and I think it affects my bp. Maybe it affects yours too.

rosa I hope the bf works out for you. Don't they have a type of shield you can use that helps?

Sandy the nursery looks great.

Chris'slady I hope the 3hr test is ok.

I'm sure I missed a bunch of people. I have my glucose test Wednesday. In general I have been pretty good about food but Saturday was my birthday and now we have cheesecake in the house!

books we got The Baby Book by Sears and Sears but I haven't looked at it yet :p Well, I looked through a library copy to know if it seemed right for us but that was about it.

showers we have two in October, we have to travel for both of them. I hope people do gift cards so we don't have to ship gifts home. I know that sounds bad and very selfish but I'm a little nervous about how to get things home.

birthing classes Rosa you are not alone. Our classes are in November so we also finish 3 weeks before :eek: I figure this way it will be fresh right ;)

dreams I have been having lots of weird ones but Saturday night I had a scary one where I was at a festival and started bleeding. In my dream I was about this far along so it was way too early and very scary.

Since this got long I will just take one more paragraph for a nursery rant. I took DH to BRU again and we looked at cribs and dressers. We found things we liked but DH kept going on and on about the quality you get for the $$$. He would point out the plastic hardware and how the drawers wiggled etc. He just kept saying it's not going to last. He wants to find an unfinished furniture store in the area and get nice wood furniture and finish it. I looked for a store and could not find one so I said fine, find one then. It's now his project and he hasn't started. I can't really start organizing until at least the dresser is in there! That's it, rant over.

pacificbliss: I have heard mixed things about those shields. Many people say they don't work and some doctors say they can actually make things worse. Even if you do use them, it can be a real pain. You have to put them on for a while before EVERY time you BF. I know BF is great, but I don't know how I would deal with that. I don't even know how that would be possible in the middle of the night, for example.

As far as the quality of baby furniture, I have to agree with your DH, although I definitely understand your desire to make a decision! I felt that many brands were really low quality too. We got BabyBassett, and I felt that their stuff was way more solid than anyother furniture we had seen. It is all solid wood with metal hardware, etc. But I never went to any real high-end stores, where I am sure there is lots of quality stuff. We have a great unfinished furniture store near us and that is where we bought the baby's bookshelf. It was actually the most affordable way to find a solid wood bookshelf. I can't stand MDF furniture!

It was awesome! It wasn't just 'cute', but like I mentioned, it felt like you'd walked right into an aquarium when you came into the living room area. I overheard chitchat from other people that said my BFF should look into doing this sort of thing professionally, it was that good. I fell in love with that bedding while I thought I wanted another design...I kept going back to it and when I showed it to DH he fell in love too. :)

It was a blast! I'm glad my bp is staying down too...I was shocked and worried when the dr mentioned it being high on Friday b/c I've always had low- to normal-blood pressure. It must be a dr's office thing, I'm sure of it now. I'm not usually nervous at appts (except when I'm getting blood drawn, which is done at labs not at the dr's office) but maybe it's psychological or something??

I had a great apt today with the specialist, we were able to get a pic of the baby sucking his thumb, so cute. The doc was funny he was pointed out the babies cheeks saying "oh chubby cheeks already" You can tell he loves his job. :) But i got the unsettling news that this lovely baby will possibly be 8-9 lbs. I told the doc you have GOT to be kidding me! He laughed and said what did you think? I said a nice 6-7 lbs kid, this made him laugh harder. I told him you are laughing b/c you don't have to squeeze out this turkey. :rolleyes:

Sandy_ I love your painting, you are totally ambitious to teach yourself how to sew. I totally applaud you. :)

Rancid - your shower sounds like it was wonderful, I can't wait to see pics

rosa That is a great idea about the bookcase, I was wondering how could I find something that would match exactly. Now I have to get the knob off the dresser and go to the unfinished store.

Shower - I still have not heard anything about a shower but DH was really pushing me to add stuff to the registry this week. So we shall see. :rolleyes:

Books - I have nothing I am going to be standing in the middle of the nursery with this baby and have no idea what the heck to do. :confused:
I know I want a BF book. One of my girlfriends that BF until her son was 1 y/o was like, you totally don't need a book. I tried to explain to here that I needed the support. She is of the thought that BF is easy for everyone. She didn't have any problems and took to it like a duck to water.

Birthing Classes - I have still not registered for this. I also need to register for the BF class that fills up fast

Dreams - I keep dreaming this baby is a sumo wrestler, why? I have no idea

Nursery - We are making some very slow progress. DH moved his clothes out of the closet, yeah!!! And he cleared out all his extra computers and furniture and made a trip to goodwill. I was so happy. Now we still need to paint and get the last of the junk out of the room. He is not going to assemble the crib until the room it painted so for now my beautiful crib sits in the box. Boo hoo;)

Are you doing any form of exercise at all?? I was a complete sloth for my first 4-5 months and my doc became concerned about my weight gain in between appts (6-7lbs 2 different times). She suggested I start walking every day, even if it's just around the block, because she said even just that little bit could make a big difference. I've been walking 30 minutes ~4 days a week and doing 45 minutes of a prenatal yoga video (very light stuff) 1-2 days a week. It seems to be helping, I've only gained a couple pounds (while continuing to eat like a horse, of course) in the last 4-5 weeks. :)

Janu-I don't think 22 pounds is gaining alot. I exercise almost every day and I have gained more than that. I also won't be getting anymore u/s, I wish though, I would love to see the little guy again!

Dh and I do try to get out for walks but lately with his work schedule its getting harder... I will have to do some sort of excercise cus who wants to be on a diet when there preggers!!!!

I also hate sleeping on my left side, I try to alternate b/w sides but I heard the left side is the best way to sleep. When i am able to fall asleep (which is getting harder and harder) I almost always wake up on my back.

Dreams... Last nite i dreamt peanut was a corn on the cob!! (I think it was becasuse i was craving corn) Weird!

rosa727
09-19-2006, 09:28 AM
Janu: That's weird - I really didn't think 22 pounds was a lot either. Considering the suggested weight gain (for an average person) is 25-35 pounds, that seems right on for the week you are at. You don't tend to gain much, if any, weight in the last few weeks. So even at a pound a week until then, you should be right on. I guess different doctors just have different opinions on the matter. Mine told me to gain 40! I was like "no way!" But more exercise is always a good thing. I need to do more myself!

I will be getting at least one more u/s, but just to determine whether I will have a C-section because of placenta previa. I am happy to get to see him again, but unhappy about my potential problem.

sleep: I don't know how it would be possible without my Snoogle. The thing is a lifesaver and has been since about week 18! I alternate between sides. I figure it is fien to sleep on my right side sometimes, especially if it means getting sleep versus NOT getting any. I can only stay on one side so long before my hips hurt. The Snoogle also keeps me from ending up on my back. I have heard that you are not really "on your back" as long as you are tilted up somewhat (like there is a pillow under one butt cheek :)).

Rancid13

Me too! I would be fine sleeping on my left, but I've found that when I do, the entire left side of my body starts feeling sore and achy, and my left leg starts falling asleep. I have an assortment of pillows to assist in getting comfortable, but it doesn't help with the pain at all. Doesn't happen on my right side though, so I've been alternating between left, right, and lying on my back (I've found that lying on my back is by far the most comfortable for me).

I dunno, I've tried using pillows in different spots, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. The achiness gets painful when I try to move positions, painful enough for me to NOT want to sleep on my left side any longer.

OMG, Rosa, those shots look like a model in a catalog showing off cute and stylish maternity clothes! I'm not even embarrassed enough to admit that I am green with envy. All my shots show are an enormous belly clad in an ugly pink t-shirt from Motherhood Maternity that is stained on the chest from the morning latte! ~sigh~ Well, thankfully the pregnancy hormones cause my hair to get thick and full and lusterous so even though I look like a beached whale, I have a fabulous swingable hair! janu that doesn't seem like a lot of weight to me.

As for sleeping I am also a big fan of the snoogle. Although last night I somehow ended up on my back and, I'm not sure if they're related, had the worst dream ever. I stopped for gas and somehow the gas station got turned into an ob appointment. At the appointment my Mom and Dad were in the waiting room. DH was not there. The appointment turned into an emergency c-section. They kept sticking me with needles, put this huge oxygen thing on my head so I couldn't hear and it was really stuffy so I couldn't breathe. They kept doing all this wierd stuff like explaining in detail the procedure while showing me these nasty surgical knives and scissors but NEVER telling me why I had to have this c-section. I kept saying I don't want to do this but no one was listening. They would not call DH. Some guy came in the room in street clothes and was talking to me. I could not tell if he was reading my rights and asking if I wanted an attorney or if he was reading me my last rites. Finally I woke myself up and curled up next to DH. Ths dream was so vivid and is so vivid to me now I feel like I could go on for pages describing details. It's thrown my whole day off.

Birth Classes We start out birth classes 9/28 for 6weeks. I am really looking forward to them.

Nursery I have not done much else recently in the nursery. I am searching for baskets though. Has anyone found any good places to get them. I just can't seem to find what I want anywhere but PBK and the are spendy.

I am in nesting mode. This weekend I am planning on a ton of organizing. I have less that 90days left. :eek:

hi ladies-
sounds like everyone is doing well!!

shower We have our one and only in a few weeks. I'm SO excited. Seems like we don't have anything for the baby yet or have anything set up so I'm very excited for the shower. I'm in nesting mode right now too and want to get the nursery set up, but we're not really planning on putting it together until Nov when we stop getting lots of visitors.

Birth classes our bradley classes started last week, and they last for 12 weeks, so man oh man we're cutting it very close. We're going to try to get in some makeup classes though so that we'll be done before the babies start coming. There are only 2 other couples in our class, and both of them are due in November!! We're really excited about our class, and have enjoyed it a lot so far.

rosa you look great!! i wish i still looked as good. we took another shot yesterday, so as soon as i upload it, i'll post it. i've started noticing my stretch marks on my hips a little more now too. I'm going to get a friend who is a photographer take some belly shots, but they won't really be "pro" shots.

We had our 28 week appt today. Everything looks good except for my weight. i gained twice as much this month than i was supposed to. :( My mw told me that i really need to be better about watching my weight. i feel like there isn't anymore i can do though! i'm exercising and eating right. ugh. plus, my hands and feet get a little swollen in the evenings (which i took to be completely normal symptom). I've always been a little on edge about my bp, so i asked her if she was concerned about my bp, and she said, "to be honest, you're at a higher risk for devleoping hypertension because of the weight gain and the swollen feet." MAN!! it really depressed me. but not only that, i didn't think the two symptoms were connected at all.

But, we're doing appts every 2 weeks now. we'll start going in every week during the last month. my next appt is oct 4

anyways, hope all is well!!

It's been quiet in here for the last 24 hours!

Rosa~ You look great!!!

Mandersald~ I'm sorry to hear about the weight gain thing. I've had the 'concerned about your weight' thing from my doctor on 2 different occasions and it left me feeling depressed for several days thereafter. After the first 'concerned' appt I decided to try to eat better and get some sort of exercise on a daily (or almost-daily) basis, whether it be walking or prenatal yoga or whathaveyou, with the hope that every little bit helps. Hypertension in pregnancy isn't something to take lightly...I'm hoping for the best for you!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I can't believe I've reached the 30-week mark!! Where has the time gone??
DH got a storage space yesterday and is in the process of moving his stuff out of the 2nd bedroom and into it. He also picked up the crib from BRU last night, as well as the CaCoLo Turtle Bay crib bedding set from my mom's house that she bought for us. As soon as we get the bedroom further cleared out, we'll be able to get it cleaned, possibly painted (if we ever decide on a color), purchase the rest of the nursery furniture, and start getting things set up in there (including the slew of baby stuff from the shower that's currently taking up residence in our dining/living room).
Hope everyone is feeling good today! I was wondering whether anyone else has had the pins and needles prickly feeling on their belly? I think I read about this somewhere, but I don't remember if it is a sign of anything or just something that happens. I am getting that occasionally, as well as LOTS of BH contrax. Other than that, I'm doing well :)
I also just picked up "What to Expect in the First Year" book, and I am seriously getting freaked out. I just feel like there is so much to learn. It is overwhelming! I have never cared for a little baby before. Oh well, I guess there is a steep learning curve!
I have those freak-outs too. DH is so calm about the whole thing - and I'm like, we haven't been around kids!!! We know nothing!! I'm doing plenty of reading and we're signed up for the 'baby care' class with our hospital. The reading makes me much less stressed.
nursery - Finished painting, have the bedding, got the crib assembled, dresser assembled, assembling the bookcase tonight and having the glider/ottoman delivered soon! Still plenty of things to do (crib mattress, valance, accessories, etc.) but I am feeling much less stressed now.
I'm actually feeling good today for a change! A nice change from my usual 'decent'. ;) I've been getting pins & needles prickliness on my belly for awhile now, but I assumed it was part of the whole "constantly irritated skin package" I've been putting up with for a few months. Not sure if it's occurring separately from the irritation or in conjunction with it, it's hard to tell. I can tell you that it feels soooo good to lightly scratch it. :eek: I know I shouldn't, but the urge gets too strong sometimes. I haven't gotten any BH contrax, I don't think, unless I'm having them and totally not noticing, which I could understand. :)
27w, 5 days
I get the pricklies, too.
I just made my first clothing purchases today--went a little haywire at the ON baby sale (which I think ends tomorow, FYI). However, for about $56 I got 9 LS onesies, 6 pairs of plush socks, a tee and shorts set (for 6 months), and 2 pairs of knit pants. A lot of good basics for the first months.
Rancid-glad to hear that your bp is doing good and you are feeling good.
Rosa-you look terrific! I wish I could look like that when I'm pregnant. I just gain a lot of weight and look like a blimp!
I'm happy for everyone having your baby showers. I hope you all have a great time! It was so much fun when I had mine for my twins. We're obviously not having one this time because it is our 3rd baby and 2nd pregnancy.
I can't believe how close we are all getting now. I am at 26 weeks and I know most of you are ahead of me. For all you first time Moms, try not to get too freaked out.....it's good to read all you can and take the classes that you can but you will all do great as new Mommies. I had no experience with babies either and I brought home two premature babies and they are doing great. The nurses at the hospital were a great help and gave advice and watched while I did first feedings, baths, taking temperatures, etc. Try not to worry too much because a lot will come to you naturally.
Reading your post just relieved me of a lot of fears, NJMom...I don't have any experience with babies, but I have been reading as much as I can and have a bunch of classes to take starting early next month. I'm so happy to hear that a lot of it comes naturally, I'm so clueless when it comes to kids/babies but reading that will help me rest somewhat easier. :)
No pricklies here, but I like to call him Kung Pao Baby because he is a serious karate champion in there....some days it's a constant, all day thing. Quite a change from the "no movement at all before 24 weeks" that I had...
Books - I highly recommend The Happiest Baby on the Block.
Sleeping - I know there are a lot of old wives tales about pregnancy, but you should try your best to avoid sleeping on your right side. There is a major artery that runs the right side of your spine. That artery feeds blood to the placenta and you don't want to have the blood flow slow on that side. Just a heads up....if you are a right side sleeper (like me), it is best to try to sleep on your left most nights. I get the same symtoms: arms fall asleep, legs fall asleep, sometimes I even wake up choking because I'm so uncomfortable on my left side.
No pricklies for me...yet. Baby G has been moving quite a bit lately though. I still feel pretty lucky that right now the only bad things I am experiencing is the occasional back ache every few days.
mobox - I picked up the book you recommended a few nights ago but haven't started it. Looks like a good one.
sleeping - for the most part I sleep on my left side but I do wake up sometimes on my back.
----
Well I went for the 3 hour GTT yesterday and it did suck! It was boring, yes, but the worst part was the actual blood draws. I am a hard draw typically but these people really had a hard time. I actually felt like I was going to pass out the first time I had it done right when I got there b/c teh lady was just moving it around in my arm (the fasting did not help either). Eventually she got it from my hand. Then, the three additional draws were the same story. Both arms and my left hand were all poked and prodded yesterday and one of my arms is now black and blue! I better pass this thing after all that...they said teh Dr ahould have the results on Monday.
Not too much going on this weekend. Probably just some cleaning and a little shopping. We have a wedding reception to go to on Sat. Have a great weekend everyone!
Hi all! Man, this board has been busy!
I had my 26 weeker yesterday, and everything looks great. The babies are supposedly just under two pounds each (not that u/s measurements are particularly accurate) and moving around like crazy. My BP and weight were fine (still up 30 lbs, hope to gain 15 in the next 10 weeks, or at least 10), and best of all, I passed my GTT test. Whew.
Sunshine - I'll keep my fingers crossed for you on the 3 hour test. Hopefully things will work out just fine.
Books - a friend gave me the American Academy of Pediatrician's book Baby's First year, and I thought it was great. Very calm, practical advice on everything from umbilical cord care to sleeping.
Having said that, as a second-time mom, I agree completely with NJMom. I knew nothin' 'bout birthin' babies, or raising them, to completely misquote Gone with the Wind, but as it turns out those little muppets will let you know what they need. A sponge bath to start and sometimes some help sucking snot out of their little noses, and most of the rest is diapers and food. Each kid will have their own preferences on what calms them down, so that part is more trial and error than anything else (although I also recommend Happiest Baby on the Block, since it gives you some suggestions). The diaper changing takes very little time to learn, that's for sure! The hospital nurses will generally clue you in, and the pediatrician is used to answering all sorts of stuff, especially during that first couple of days in hospital. And the first ped visit is only a week out, too.
Random aches and pains here too, especially in bed. And I'm now convinced that I can actually feel the strech marks forming. arghghgh. I guess that counts as pricklies!
Hey NJMom, I'm in the same boat as you shower-wise. My first one was for twins too and I got LOADS of stuff. It was almost embarrassing the sheer quantity we received. A friend of mine wanted to throw me a shower for this pregnancy but I just felt it was inappropriate. There is very little, if anything, that I need this time around and I think it would just be greedy on my part. However, I am enjoying the stories of everyone elses showers and am looking forward to my friend's shower who is due a week after I am. I love a good baby shower. :D
I'm not having stomach pricklies and this is the first I've heard of them. I'm getting arm and hand pricklies and the occasional foot prickly but it looks like I might have actually skipped the stomach prickly symptom (strange, I've gotten everything else!).
Still awaiting the results of my GTT. I'm not too worried since it hasn't been a problem in the past but still, the fear of the unknown and the dread of having to do the 3 hour GTT is making me rather curious to hear the results!
Whooa this place is bumbing this morning....
Pricklies- I'am getting them also. BH contractions, if iam getting them i dont know it i cant tell at all.
I have not heard from my doctor about my GTT and it has been over a week so I'm guessing no news is good news, we started childbirth class wed. night it was so informative and DH has much sympathy he said, i cant wait for next week there are alot of couples in there, one due in november and the rest at the end of Dec lots are due on christmas....
my shower is next month and i cant wait to get stuff then organize it. i have been on a shopping kick lately with clothes, i cant stop i wonder how it is going to be when she gets here if im this bad now:)
sleeping - is not so good anymore, i got up last night 4 times to use the restroom i think she has a trampoline in there and my belly is just getting so big that it is even uncomftorable to sleep on my sides now i toss and turn all night.
Oh geez! I just got a call from the doctor's office and I failed the GTT test! WTH! I passed it with no problem with the last pregnancy and I passed the one they made me take at 16 weeks with this pregnancy. It was that Taco Bell jones, I know it was. Now I have to go take the three hour GTT and be on a special diet for three days. Ugh, I am quickly running out of days off from work and hate that I have to use one of my last remaining ones for this stupid test. Off to hold a pity party for myself. ;)
Sunshine~ The blood draws do not sound like they were pleasant, you poor thing!! I have a tough time with getting blood drawn anyhow so I probably would have fainted if they’d done that to me.:eek:
Sophia~ Sorry to hear you failed the GTT!! Here’s hoping all goes well with the 3-hour.:)
Speaking of skin pricklies, take a look at mine below. :(
30w belly shots from last night. Never mind how irritated the skin on my abdomen (ok, entire body) is looking. I haven't scratched my belly in 2 days, I've been really good about that too. For color/irritation comparison of how much better my skin used to look, I've posted a picture from very early on in my pregnancy (~6-8w?).
rancid your belly is so cute, red, but cute :)
sunshine sorry about the blood draws, I hope the results are good.
pricklies-no pricklies here but I have a burn on my belly. I forgot how much it sticks out and leaned against a hot skillet. The blister was about the size of my thumbnail. Now it's healing and itches like crazy!!!
No big pans for the weekend. We found an unfinished furniture store with a crib we like and I think we're going to go get it tomorrow :D DH is really looking forward to "doing something". I told him he has been taking care of me and that counts ;)
Last week was a little more hectic than I’d like to repeat. The tile guy expected to finish on Friday but was held up due to issues with installing the wire corner shelves I bought b/c of the weight/fragility of the porcelain tile. He gave up and suggested that we order granite corners to match the vanity countertop. At this point, I’m so over this project that we’re hemorrhaging money to just get.it.done. This *wonderful* news came on Friday afternoon after I found out that I failed my one hour GTT test by one point, I have gained three pounds and my platelets dropped a little again. The progress photo for the shower is below. The colors look a little off b/c of the amount of dirt on the tiles. I can’t say how excited I will be to not have to live with a solid ½" of dirt everywhere!
http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n295/meashcc/shower.jpg
I did a photoshoot yesterday for a sweet five year old boy and his Mom. Today, I’m paying the price. My back is killing me. We’re hosting a birthday party for a friend this afternoon so, I’m trying to get some work done at work this afternoon before the party. I’m really hoping that we have an easy going baby b/c we tend to lead very hectic lives!
I will try to check in later this week and catch up on the fun stuff then! Thanks for letting me vent.
Hi guys nothing really new with me. I will try to update the thread, if anyone would like to help out with that let me know. I hit 27 weeks tomorrow! WOOHOO! 3rd trimester 13 more weeks to go which means 13 more weeks until Christmas I better get shopping!
Carissa: I have been trying to start to get ready for Christmas too! It seems so early but how the heck are we all going to have any time to do it later? And my whole family will be here for the holidays this year too! I have so much to do!
************************************************** *
DH and I had a fun weekend! We headed to VA Beach for a last minute trip. It was hot and sunny all weekend, so it worked out great. It was nice to have one more romantic weekend with DH before our little guy gets here! I am within the 10 week countdown now - it seems so close!!!
I am excited because I have an OB appointment tomorrow morning, and I will be making an appointment for my next u/s for 2 weeks later. I can't wait to see him again and get more pictures! I will also find out whether I will be having a C-section or not, most likely (depending on the placenta issue).
I have my GTT today. So many of you not passing is making me nervous. How long did it take for you to get your results?
fms - the bathroom looks like it will be very nice when it is all finished!
GTT - I found out on the spot, too, with my first one whether or not I passed. I have not yet heard about the 3 hour test I did Thursday but I may call this afternoon to see if they have the results.
Rosa - the beach sounds aweome!...I wish we were close enough for a nice weekend.
weekend - Had a relaxing weekend. On Saturday we went to an apple orchard about 1/2 hour away we had never been to. You don't pick your own but they have, I think, about 30 varieties throughout their season. We picked up a small bag which is still way more than I have ever bought and some cider. I made an apple crisp that night which has been really good with ice cream and just plain for breakfast. It really doesn't have that much bad stuff in it so I am not feeling guilty about that! I was at the grocery store on Sat and found Graeters's Hazelnut Chip ice cream.....yum! I love hazelnut and Graeters is a famous local ice cream place and anything they make is great. Oprah even had it on her show once to give you an idea. Sunday, did some errands, watched some football and made chili and cornbread. So with all teh cooking (which is alot for me) I was feeling pretty domestic :) Tonight, I have to find abother apple recipe as I still have lots of apples left.
rosa727
09-25-2006, 10:19 AM
sunshine: There is an awesome apple pie recipe that I found on the boards here. It is Grandma someone's apple pie - I can't remember the exact name. But I made five of them a few weekends back (some to give away), and it was fairly easy and SO good. It is a somewhat different recipe for apple pie. Anyway, with all your cooking and everything, you sound like me. I am definitely getting the nesting urge!
rancid your belly is so cute, red, but cute :)
It looks a lot worse (redder) in the pictures than it does in person, but it’s still a bit irritated-looking I suppose. It got better over the weekend, the normal coloration is almost back, yay! :) Mostly my arms and back have been very irritated and itchy for the last few days now...
Fms~ Yay on getting work done on the shower! I love the colors of the little tiles on the wall. Very ocean-y (I’m a big fan of greens & blues).
Carissa~ Whoohoo on starting the 3rd trimester!!
Marteneym~ Good luck with the GTT! I took mine on a Wednesday and had my next ob appt 2 days later, at which the results were revealed (passed!). I believe the ob’s office called the lab to get the info faxed over while I was in the room waiting to see my ob.
Sunshine~ Picking apples is so much fun! I’m jealous, the nearest apple farm to us is almost 2 hours away near the desert. I’ve been wanting to go for years (my parents used to take us when we were kids) but haven’t been able to justify the long drive for apples. DH has never been apple picking, I’d love for him to experience it. Apple crisp sounds yummy!!
Anyway, with all your cooking and everything, you sound like me. I am definitely getting the nesting urge!
Can you guys pass some of that nesting urge along to me please? Seriously, I keep waiting for it to kick in and make me clean the house and do some home-cooking, but it has yet to appear. I’m finally resigning myself to cleaning the house little by little, because it’s so filthy it’s disgusting to be quite honest. I’m gonna force myself to do just a little bit every day, and may even resort to paying someone to come in and do it, that’s how lazy I am.
Weekend~ I went to a childhood best friend’s baby shower on Saturday. She’s due exactly one month before me, on Nov 3 and she’s having a boy also (also her first child). It was a lot of fun catching up with her and her family, my mom and I stayed at their house for about 4 hours after everyone else left. Yesterday DH and I ordered the rest of the nursery furniture from BRU: glider + ottoman, changing table/dresser combo, tall dresser/chifforobe and toy chest. They should all be here in about 2 weeks, so DH had better get finished cleaning out the 2nd bedroom so it’ll fit.:eek:
I have another u/s at the next appointment. They will be checking to see if my placenta has moved up. If not, I will have a scheduled C-section. But I am so excited to see him again.
fms- The shower looks great! I love the blue in it. We still haven't put our shower door on since getting the tile done a year ago, I don't think it will ever get finished.
Sunshine-We have so many apples right now. We have a tree in the front and another tree in the back. However, I am craving Macintosh apples, you can't get them here and I love them!
My next appointment is Oct 5 and I will be having the GTT but I am kind of upset that my appointment isn't until that night. I am going to be starving by the time I get to that appointment.
We are taking our last flight tomorrow to Boston, it will take all day to get there. Anytime you fly out of my state it takes all day doesn't matter where you go so it should be interesting with a toddler and being pregnant.
rosa-I can't be induced at all because I am trying for a VBAC so everything has to just come natural and I am not sure if that will happen with me or not.
Rancid: My OB will go to every 2 weeks after this next appointment. Then it will be every 2 weeks twice and then every week. I did hear that every 2-3 weeks was normal during the 3rd trimester, and my doctor just splits it, so I decided not to make a big deal about it or anything. So I will go at 33 weeks, 35, 37, and then 38, 39, 40.
Anyway, it IS crazy how close we are!!! Let's hope neither of us goes late!
************************************************** ****************
I just made an appointment to see a lactation consultant tomorrow morning. I think it is good because she can examine me and give me a plan to help make it more likely that I can BF. My doctor and her said that many women with flat or inverted nipples do it without a problem, so I am hoping that is true for me! The good thing is that I can establish a relationship with this women now, in case I need help later too. And my insurance should cover it, which is good.
GTT 3 hour test - Yeah, the great news is I found out today I passed! Thanks goodness!! No diet for me although I will try to eat well and not overdo the sweets so our daughter is not a candy bar :)
Rosa - I tried Grandma Ople's apple pie tonight and it is currently in the oven. It looks good so I just hope it tastes as good as it looks. Good idea! Good luck with the LC tomorrow.
Too far behind here for shoutouts, but it seems like everyone is doing well. We had a good trip to Houston--work stuff went smoothly and we also had fun visiting family. I got lots of sympathy looks on the flight home (since I was on my own--DH stayed on longer for work) with my preggo belly and a 2 yr old in tow (and her huge carseat strapped to my back), but thankfully DD was pretty good on the flight.
Unfortunately, the morning after we got home I got a call from my mom letting me know that my grandmother had died.:( She was 98 years old and died in her sleep--for the past 6 months or so she had really been ready to go--just feeling tired and old, so at least she got her wish. I am thankful that my DD got to meet her two times (we live cross-country), especially that we got to see her just a couple of months ago. I will fly out this weekend for the memorial service. I am hoping this will be my last plane trip before baby.
Had an OB appt today. Passed the GTT and got my rho-gham shot. Everything is measuring just right and heartbeat sounds good. I will know see my Dr. every 2 weeks, so my next OB appt will be Oct 11. My test results showed I am slightly anemic, but Dr. said it won't affect the baby but that I better get my iron levels up if I want to have the energy to deal with a toddler and a newborn, so he put me on supplements.
My lower back has been killing me and I feel like huge, but other than that, all goes well. I have kept up with my running and am doing yoga, some biking, and a little bit of weight training. I'm hoping I'll be able to keep that up at least a bit longer.
Books My all-time favorite baby book is Dr. Sears' The Baby Book. While his philosophy is AP, I think it is still a very useful book regardless of your parenting style. It is very well organized, has great info on nutrition, feeding, ailments and illnesses, and development. I find it a great quick reference. I read The Happiest Baby on the Block while PG w/DD and liked it. If you don't have time to read the book, there is also a DVD. At minimum, I'd suggest becoming familiar with the 5 S's and learning how to do a good tight swaddle, as they can be lifesavers with a fussy baby. I also read The Baby Whisperer and was sort of eh about it. I got What to Expect the First Year for free and am not a fan at all. For nursing advice and info, I like The Nursing Mother's Companion. My all-time favorite sleep reference is Weissbluth's Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child. I know this often gets identified as a CIO book, but really it's not exactly. Yes, he is not against CIO, but all the information he provides (very well supported by lots of studies and research) is, IMO, very helpful regardless of your beliefs on CIO. In our experience, this book has been spot on with sleep advice for DD, and it goes from newborn up through school age.
In other news, we got our double jogging stroller (Baby Jogger Performance Series Double w/20" wheels--can you tell this is probably the baby item I'm most excited about?! Geek alert!), and our crib came in. We already have the crib set up in DD's room since books advise doing it ASAP to allow the older sibling time to adjust. Mia is so psyched about it. She keeps putting her baby dolls to sleep in there and always likes to point to the crib and say "That will be my baby brother's crib!":)
DH and I went to Barnes and Noble last night to look at name books. Still no consensus but at least we have found a few potential names that we could agree on.
Sunshine~ I sure as heck can't believe I have less than 10 weeks to go! As of tomorrow it'll be 9 weeks, where is the time going?!?:eek: Congrats on passing the GTT, I remember what a huge relief it was when I found out that I'd passed. I've also been trying to eat a little better (somewhat less sugary sweets).
Teresita~ I'm so sorry to hear of your grandmother's passing. My thoughts are with you and your family at this time. My gf passed unexpectedly earlier this year so I can understand some of what you might be going through.
He did NOT just say that! DH just called...he's still in the process of getting 'stuff' moved out of the extra bedroom as today is his day off (he's actually made a lot of progress, but there's still a lot to do!). He asked if it would be OK if he kept his drum set in the room. I said, "Please tell me you did not just ask me if it's ok to keep a drum set in the BABY's room." He said that he wanted to teach our baby to play drums if he was interested. I told him that it was pretty possible that baby would not be playing drums during the first year of his life. :rolleyes: There's really no place else for it in our little condo, so he might move it to the back room of his work (it's an electric kit so it's not a noisy as a regular drum set, but still!) :eek: :)
Thanks for all of the GTT responses. It went really well. They gave me a sprite flavored one. Not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. And i PASSED! That was great news. I got the results the following morning.
Appts Mine are every 4weeks still. 32, 36, 38, 40. I kind of think that is not bery many appts towards the end.
I did however make an appt for a 3/4d US. It is next Wednesday. I cannot wait.
Teresita Sorry to hear of the passing of your grandma.
Teresitasorry about your grandmother.
sunshine I'm glad you passed the 3 hr.
I can't believe how close we are getting. When I think December it seems so far away but now that some of you are only 10 weeks away it seems so soon.
Who was it that brought up Christmas? We don't have to buy gifts for anyone this year do we? :D I think we should be off the hook for all holiday obligations, whatver holiday you celebrate. Oh, and this should include Thanksgiving, someone else should cook.
I have a mw appt tonight and should get the results of the GTT back. Cross your fingers for me.
Hi everyone!!! You're so right, I can't believe how fast time is just flying by! It needs to slow down because I feel like I still have so much to do. Come by my journal to see my latest house pics...DAve is almost finished with painting the living room and hallway. It should be done this weekend (YAY!).
I had my GTT on Monday and I passed thankfully. I"m still anemic even though I'm taking iron. She told me to start taking two but there is no way because that will only lead to constipation and that is somewhere I DO NOT want to go right now.
I also had my f/u u/s. My fluid levels are still very high (24) but she said since it's under 25 she won't worry about it. The little boy also doubled his weight which is what she was hoping for. His abdominal measurement was in sync with all the other measurements so whatever problem that was occuring has corrected itself and she was very happy about that. So she said she'll do another u/s at 35 weeks to check fluid again. If it hasn't decreased down to 15, then we'll start talking about pre-term labor possibilities. She said with that much fluid, the placenta can deteriorate and we don't want that because then the little one won't be getting the nutrition he needs. He measured at 29w1d and 3.4 pounds. So I may deliver early anyway.
Next appt Oct 13th
Mo~Yay for getting more work done on the house! I checked both of your journals but didn't see any pictures. :( I'd love to see how it turned out! Congrats on passing the GTT, and that's very interesting about the fluids, hopefully the levels will go down and all will be well with the little one. Your next appt is on my lucky day/date...I just realized that my next next appt will likely be that same day too since my appts are 2 weeks apart now. :D Yay for Fri the 13th! (It will be DH and my 6-yr anniversary of the night we met, also a Fri the 13th). :D
hi ladies!!
teresita i'm so sorry to hear about your grandmother's passing. It sounds very peaceful though, and I'm glad that you will be able to be with your family.
pacificbliss i hear you on the holidays. i like the idea of not having to do anything. too bad everyone will be at my house, hopefully they don't expect me to play hostess.
rancid a drum set? hmmm. hopefully you can talk him out of that one.
mo hope your fluids go down soon! glad that your babe's problems with his tummy has figured itself out.
GTT I had mine last week, but haven't heard about the results. I'm guessing that since I haven't heard, everything is OK?
i think i've started noticing this little bug having the hickups every once in a while. its definately very rhythmic movement.
Other than that, not too much has been going on. seems sorta uneventful for me besides gaining too much weight. i was gonna post my most recent belly shot, but i forgot to upload it. gah!
oh, and we had some fun news this week. my sister is also pg!! we're super pumped for them since they had been trying for a long time. she's due early june. horray for 2 babies in the family!! my mom is going crazy. :D
Thanks for the link rosa. I love apple pie.
mo I'm glad the house is coming along. I stopped at you journal (the cc one) and didn't see any pics, are they at LJ?
The appointment went well last night. I passed the GTT and all my bloodwork looks normal. I am cleared to drive across the country with my friend starting Saturday. One strange thing happened, when the midwife went to measure my uterus and check the hb she saw that burn I have on my stomach from leaning against a hot pan. When I told her it was a burn she turned around and glared at DH :confused: Does he look like the kind of guy that would burn his pg wife?! We didn't say anything, she's one of many mw at the office. I find it hard to believe I am the first pg woman whose expanding belly sustained an injury like that.
HI LADIES!!!
It's been so so long. Things around here have been hectic so I just haven't had time to post but I'm still around and lurking. I was so sorry to hear about Teresita's grandmother but happy to hear that everyone seems to be healthy and all our pregnancies seem to be going really well.
Ok, so why have things been so hectic? Here's a copy of the latest post to my LJ journal. I think it covers it!
quoted from LJ:
Shawn and I decided (after 3 years beside the neighbours from H*LL) to list our cute little house and move. ACK! The problem is that we're in a townhouse so we are attached to these people. The single mother is NEVER home so basically we live beside a 15 yr old and an 18 yr old. Yeah, sounds fun, right? We were able to tolerate the garbage everywhere, the cigarette butts in our garden every morning, the kicked in fence, the soccar balls hitting our cars, the loitering on our lawn ALL DAY AND ALL NIGHT, the drugs smoked/sold in the garage, the 15 cars parked out front all the time, the motorcycle, the friend with the pit bull (we have an 18 lb dog), the parties all night and the loud music but then.....they got drums....in a townhouse. A full set (non-electronic) that sits on their first floor and gets played all day long every single day. It's so loud we can't hear the tv and it vibrates our whole house. It's like that scene in Jurassic park with the water glass. You can see the vibrations in a glass of water on the kitchen table. It's relentless. We tried ignoring, we tried asking nicely, we tried reasoning, we tried asking sternly, we tried calling the police (for the parties) and then we lost it on them. Now we've decided its never going to change if these young boys have no parental supervision whatsoever, so we're going to move. I'm actually pretty happy about it. We're staying in the same town and with the equity we've built in this house we can now afford a detached home on a bigger lot. We won't look at new places until we sell but there's lots on the market right now so I think it will be fun. Shawn has been AWESOME, handling everything and letting my pregnant butt rest. I'm just required to pack when I feel like it and help look for a new place. I can handle that. He's literally doing EVERYTHING ELSE and I'm so grateful. What a great hubby I have. Here's a pic of our cute little place (the neighbours on the right are awesome, it's the ones on the left that are the problem)
http://graphics.celestinetech.com/CommonScripts/CTIGenThumbNail.asp?f=%2F209%5C362%5CN996612%2Ejpg&w=400&q=50&na=y&rs=y
I had a midwife appointment today and it went really well. I had to drink the stuff for the GD test but other than that it was great. Everything seems to be progressing well, I've only gained 24 lbs so far but she seemed happy with that. My measurements were on track and my BP was good. Baby's HB was strong and she even kicked while the MW was feeling my uterus.
I bought this diaper bag on eBay (used but in PERFECT condition) for 1/2 the price of new and I am so stoked. I love it. I've also registered for a sedate grey one for Shawn to carry (and another Fleurville). I think I'm going to be a diaper bag fiend :eek:
http://www.fleurville.com/_media/mothership/_pinkstripe.jpg
I also bought this adorable squirrel themed stuff at Old Navy last week. I think baby clothes are going to be my weakness!!
We have two showers coming up in October. One thrown by each side of the family, which is so nice. I'm really looking forward to both of them.
I'm hoping we'll be in a new house before I'm due but we may not be. Luckily, my parents live 5 minutes away and have essentially a basement apartment (minus a kitchen). If we have a few weeks between closings, we can just live there. It's going to be an interesting and exciting winter, that's for sure!!
Hope everyone is well. I will do my best to post again soon!
:) Allison
I burned my belly too! It actually didn't leave a mark because I pulled away so fast. I actually thought it was sort of funny that my big belly was getting in the way! I guess it was funnier because I didn't get hurt. pacificbliss: That's crazy that the mw glared at your DH. I guess doctors and mws are just overly cautious about abuse when women are PG. I remember them asking me all about it at my first appointment (which they requested I do without my DH).
rancid a drum set? hmmm. hopefully you can talk him out of that one.
He was totally kidding, he knows better than that (or at least I hope?!). He has dismantled the drum set and taken it to work so he can use it in the back workroom to work off customer-caused frustrations. Congratulations on your sister being pg too! Your little ones are going to be pretty close in age, that’s awesome! I’m about 3 or 4 years older than my next oldest cousin (I’m the oldest on both sides) but I think it would have been neat to have someone in my family around who was the same age as me.
Pacificbliss~ Congrats on passing the GTT!! That’s so odd about the mw’s reaction to your burn. As if it’s your hubby’s fault!! What was he supposed to do, sense what would happen and throw his body in between your belly and the hot pan? LOL!!:D
Allison~ Your townhome is really cute!! But yay for upgrading to a larger detached home! We’re hoping to do the same, but it won’t be till at least mid year next year unfortunately. Cute diaper bag! I bought a black one, that way neither DH nor I have any “issues” with the color/design. Re: the squirrel set from ON: I bought DH the little stuffed squirrel they were selling~he’s been getting into photography lately and has been obsessed with taking pictures of squirrels (in the mountains, at the park, on the beach). I felt it was fitting to get him the little toy to carry around with him.;)
Glucose Test - My doctor didn't tell me to fast, she said to eat a protein-rich breakfast. No cereal, no fruit, etc. I'm planning on having a scrambled egg. My test is at 9:30 in the morning - not sure if that matters.
My Dr told me nothing regarding the first test. I ate a breakfast bar that morning before it and I am wondering if that contributed to my initial failure. I had checked with a few friends though and their Dr's gave them no special instructions either.
PS...The apple pie I made the other night was delicious!
It has been a while since i have checked. I'm slacking....
I had my Doctors appointment yesterday, I passed my 1 hour GTT, boy am i glad thats over. I too, did not have any special instructions just not to eat since it was 7.45 in the morning, my next doc appt is the 12
Leg Cramps i have been waking up a ton at night because i get a cramps in my leg and it just feels awful i move them around and it still doesnt work so i just lay there and look at the ceiling untill it goes away.
Nursery Im not a big yard sale person but DH and i are gettign rid of alot of furniture and 3 computers and etc.... so we are having a yard sale tomorow i will give it away i want this stuff out, then we are going to go get more stuff with the money, all i need is a glider and ottoman for the room. and some wall decor.
Rancid- your husband sounds like mine about the drums except mine was like lets have the computers in the babies room.
Childbirth Class We are on our third week of it, and i have learned alot, and seen alot i mean they are not proper when they show videos, we take the hospital tour the next week im really looking forward to that one.
I had a girl come in the bank who was due 2 weeks before me so i think she was due nov 31 she was about the same size as me in body wise but her belly was huge so im wondering if I'am going to have a huge growth spurt soon. right around the next two weeks.
MovementHer kicks and punches are gettign stronger, and it feels like she is bouncing up and down i feel like i have to go to the bathroom like every hour.
Glucose Test: I am SO glad I was not told to fast before it! I HAVE to eat. I have been feeling really faint easily. Anyway, I was just told not to eat a sugary breakfast - no pastries or fruit. I had toast and eggs.
Birthing Class: We start ours on Monday. I am excited! The hospital tour is separate, so I already did that, and it was great. We also have a baby care class on October 11. And I am taking a BFing class in November.
BFing: I guess I did not mention that I went for a personal consultation with a LC. I found it very helpful, and she can do follow-up appointments later too. The hospital also provides LCs while you are there and a free one-hour consultation within the next few weeks, if you want it. Anyway, the LC was honest and said that I will probably have a lot more difficulty than most, but that she thinks it is worth a try.
nursery: We are done! Well, we have a few little things to do (hang a shelf over the changing table) but we are 99% done. Here are a few pictures of the finished product! They basically go around the room to the left. I painted all of the murals freehand.
I LOVE my glider! It is microfiber.
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a343/rosa727/IMG_0004.jpg
We bought the bookshelf unfinished and painted it. The monkey chair is from babystyle.com
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a343/rosa727/IMG_0002.jpg
Closet door, tall dresser, and giraffe mural:
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a343/rosa727/IMGA0213-1.jpg
Coming full circle, here is a better view of the changing table/low dresser. We still need to hang that diaper stacker elsewhere. The door into the room is to the right.
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a343/rosa727/IMGA0207.jpg
The closet - it is not totally organized yet, but we put a whole new closet system in. It can be easily moved around as he grows. The big bins up top have the non-newborn clothes, organized by size.
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a343/rosa727/IMG_0005.jpg
I am so happy to be mostly done with that!
rosa727 Your nursery looks fantastic! The murals are look incredible! That is one less thing you now have to worry about, what a relief.
Tests My OB didn't mention anything about fasting before this test (I don't think we did the last time either) but then again, I failed my 1 hour with my last pregnancy. Hopefully this time (next Thursday October 5) it will go without incident.
The Group B strep test is done later - when they are doing internals regularly. At least, that is from what I can remember.
Movement Kickboxer inside is really making his presence known! The other night DH had his hand on my belly and felt some of the kicks and he said "now what are you complaining about? that doesn't feel THAT bad" :rolleyes: Yes, if only he didn't repeat the same kicking action on my bladder and in the middle of the night!! Not unlike Chris's lady my washroom trips have come at increasing intervals. It feels like I run to the bathroom, come back and get settled into whatever I'm doing for a little bit and have to run right back again. My DD gets annoyed when the trips interrupt a round of CandyLand!
Nursery is coming along, although not as quickly as I'd like. Still waiting to do some touch-ups on the stripes and figuring out what kind of baskets we want to use in the changing unit.
Hope everyone has a great weekend - we've got apple-picking (and now after reading your posts apple pie making) on the brain so we'll do that.
Glucose test~ When I did mine, my doc told me it was a non-fasting test. I think it depends on the types of tests either your doc prefers or the lab offers? The only instructions I was given other than to show up at the lab at my own convenience was that after I drank the sugary drink, I was not allowed to eat or drink anything before having blood drawn and I couldn’t leave the waiting room (other than to use the restroom). I went in for my test a couple hours after lunch. I don’t know anything about the Group B strep test.
Leg cramps~ I’ve noticed my calves cramp up when I stretch wrong at times while lying in bed (toes pointed). I immediately flex my toes up towards my knee to keep my leg from totally cramping up.
Childbirth class~ We start ours next Wednesday and will be there for 2 hours every Weds for the next 1.5 months. Can’t wait!! We also have a BFing class, baby care basics class, baby safety, and postpartum class at various times/dates next month and into the first week of Nov.
Rosa~ I’m glad to hear that you got to meet with an LC. At least you’re giving it a try, even if BFing ends up not working for you because of the potential physical difficulties. It should be interesting, I’m giving it a shot myself to see how it goes. Your nursery looks adorable! I love those little monkeys, they’re too cute! I’m so jealous, I want to get started on mine already now!
Nursery~ DH is still working on clearing out a bunch of random stuff out of our extra bedroom. He’s made some progress but there’s still a ways to go until I can get in there with a vacuum and give it a good cleaning before we decide to paint and what furniture goes where.
Shower Pics! My mom finally got her camera downloaded and unfortunately 95% of the pictures she took at my shower 2 weeks ago came out blurry. Here are some good ones:
(I'm in the middle~my fellow pg friend is to my right; she's 4w ahead of me. We were playing the poopy diaper game~various candy bars are melted in diapers and we have to identify the type of candy bar it was/is based on textures, visual clues and smell~really gross but fun!)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v432/rancid13/shower0006.jpg
Dr's Appt~ I had my 31w appt this morning and it appears my bp is still high while in the dr's office. I showed my doc the log I'd been keeping of my bp levels while at home and she liked the look of the #'s. However, she still insisted I head over to the lab to get some blood drawn and urine samples given for a bevy of tests she'd like to have done~I think there are 5 or 6 tests (including a bile acid test) they're gonna be running on the blood that was drawn today. Even though I'm not experiencing blurry vision, swelling or headaches that are common with pre-eclampsia, she just wants to make for absolute sure that that isn't what's going on w/me.
I also reminded her of my constantly itchy skin and relayed a story from my SIL that a friend of hers had itchy skin during her pg and it turned out to be Cholestasis which has something to do with the liver not working properly which can lead to fatal results if not treated properly. That will be one of the tests run on my blood draw from today too, just in case.
Also to be on the safe side I now need to go into the hospital 2x a week for a non-stress test (NST?) and get all hooked up to monitors for something or other so they can check on things and make sure all is well in there (baby's size, fluid levels, etc). I have to start that next week...if anything, at least I get to check out the new women's pavillion for the first time (where I'll be giving birth) and possibly even be getting another u/s to make sure all looks well (and of course get another sneak peak at our baby).
Other than that, doc said my weight looks good so far (although I think I'm retaining water as I drink a ton of it all day and seldom use the restroom and when I do, hardly anything comes out) and my measurements are right on for how far along I am.
My first hospital visit will be Tuesday Oct 3 and my next dr's appt will be Friday Oct 13 (our lucky day!! DH and I met 6 years ago on Fri Oct 13).
Hey girls.
The contractor assures me that he will be done with our tile today. I can't wait to have my house back. We still have a ton of work to do on the bathroom but, we've got tile, a shower and a working toilet. Lately, I have been been sleeping through the night without waking to use the restroom...figures.
The baby's room cleanout extravaganza is still in progress. I found out that the goodwill close to my home is open all day Saturday so, they will be getting a truckload of items from us. We're still trying to figure out where we're going to put items like luggage and the vaccuum as they currently reside in the nursery closet. The guest bedroom closet is going to most likely end up filled to the ceiling with stuff. I laughed when I read about the drums...my DH tried to convince me that the baby needed tower speakers in it's bedroom. We did manage to evict the 4 broken computers that were squatting in that room.
I did my 3-hour GTT this morning. I had to fast for 12 hours prior to both the 1-hour and the 3-hour test. There was another girl taking the test at the same time I was. The overachiever was knitting booties or something while I slept or read a fashion magazine...I felt very un-maternal. She and I were lucky b/c we were the first ones there and therefore scored the recliners in the lounge. Apparantly, there were several other ladies in the waiting room in the non-comfy chairs doing the same test. Sleeping helped me to keep down the orange drink. My arms are bruised and I feel look like a crack-addict but hey, I'm done :) I guess I'll find out next week if I passed.
The baby is still moving all around all the time. The glucose drink sent it over the edge this morning...the baby went into a 45 minute gymnatic routine. About once a day I can feel the rhytmic hiccups. It cracks me up.
Anyone else attempting to score a TMX Elmo? I ordered one last week through TRU for my bf's little girl and it's on backorder. They assure me that she will get it for Christmas. She'll be 3 in Feb. so, she's at a great age for it.
Quick SO's from the last page (wish I had time to go through the rest of the thread):
Rosa...the room looks great! I'm very jealous. We're just starting our nursery decorating/painting next weekend.
Rancid...cute photos! It looks like your shower was a blast. Glad to hear that your bp is under control.
Teresita...my condolances.
Sweaty?? Sorry if TMI....Anyone else find that you're sweating a lot in the lap area? Specifically the upper thigh area to the lower portion of the belly? I work an office job and sit a great deal of the time although I do get up and walk around every 30-45 minutes. But I've noticed that my lap area always feels really warm and damp even after sitting for only 10 minutes. It happens at home too, when I'm on the couch relaxing...also I've been sweating a lot at night to the point where my t-shirt and undies feel slightly damp to the touch when I wake up in the morning. :eek: :o I know increased sweating is pretty common in pregnancy, but I feel so yucky and disgusting when I have "damp" spots. :(
Thanks, everyone! The shower was a blast, thanks to the excellent planning & decorating my BFF did and the food my mom took care of. It was nice just being able to show up and enjoy hanging out with everyone, eating good food and playing fun games (not to mention getting some pretty darned cool gifts!)
Nesting~ I'm happy to announce that the nesting bug has officially bitten me, at long last!! I went to the walk-in clinic Sat night and got some more of those 'magic' pills (or so I call them) that made my skin irritations/redness a mere memory. I had to beg her to write the prescription but I'm glad I did because it's working! I woke up Sunday morning with one goal in mind: Clean!! I cleaned the house top to bottom, with the exception of the 2 bathrooms and the extra bedroom, which DH is still clearing of his stuff. I'll get to the bathrooms later this week. Did about 5 loads of laundry, 2 sinks of dirty dishes, and threw out 5 large trash bags of junk. DH said our place hasn't looked so clean since the day we moved in. It felt good to get it all sparkling...I'm on a roll and am feeling like getting a lot accomplished this week. Next up: cleaning out the master bedroom closet and the linen cabinets.
fms~ LOL re: the "overachiever" @ the GTT appt!! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you pass!
We have tile, a working shower, a working toilet and vanity cabinets!!! The tile guy finished up on Friday and my DH set the vanity cabinets over the weekend. DH's new favorite people include the "idiots who can't use a drill" (our Kraftmaid cabinet doors were not even close to being straight or level) and the "idiots with hammers" (the people who orginially framed out the bathroom...we don't have one 90 degree angle in the room.) Excuse the shower curtain in the photos...DH couldn't wait to try out the new shower. The entire room needs to be scrubbed to get rid of the haze on everything but, DH has a good amount of wall repair to do prior to our spitshine efforts (the wallpaper peeling has left quite a mess of the walls. We're down to one room with wallpaper.) We're down to 16 sq. ft. of boxes (from 50+ sq ft) in our bedroom of items to be installed. The list of "to-do" items in the rooms to finish it up is extensive but, we've made progress :)
Rancid...you are heading down a slippery slope. If you get the urge, the closet organizers in Lowes/Home Depot are definitely worth the money. We did our master closet with the maple-looking particle board ones you can buy off the shelf and I'm so happy with them. My DH is keeping his side of the closet *very* clean b/c it's so much easier than it was before. We both have three separate racks. One for long items, and two for shorter items with shelving in-between. Granted, I lost some shoe storage space but, it's really forced me to look for items I haven't wore in a LONG time and donate them. I also have a jewelry drawer in the shelving that I adore. My racks feel a little cramped right now b/c of the maternity items but once they are gone, I'm going to fall in love all over again.
Pets...I bought our female cat her own Boppy yesterday because she loves the one for the baby so much. She will only lay on it if the plastic case is covering it so, her's has plastic the baby's does not. I think she will adapt to the baby just fine. Our male cat is going to be a PITA as that's his nature.
Birth Classes...we have our third one tonight. We're the delinquents in class. Last week I left work late so we got to class late without our class book or our pillows. I felt like the druggie/stoner smugling my can of Coke into class. I only had a few sips but I got some dirty looks. The relaxtion music was a hoot. My DH kept whispering that it reminded him of the Beavis/Butthead episode regarding lesbian seagulls. We're real mature...
FMS - Bathroom looks like it coming along great!
Pacificbliss - I will put up the pictures today at LJ. Do you have a LJ account so that I can friend you?
Rosa - I can't believe how organized your closet looks (amazing!). Where did you get the closet organizer and the big bins?
************
This weekend I was an errand running maniac! I bought the baby's curtains at Target. They are Woolrich and a very dark chocolate brown with lining so that the light won't come in. I thought I was going to have them made because it's so hard to find dark brown curtains that aren't sheer. My next goal is finding an area rug (we have hard wood). I'm checking out www.landofnod.com next because I haven't had any luck at the usual places. Anyone have any good rug place suggestions?
mobox: Thanks! I had actually stuffed a few things in there so they wouldn't be in the way for the other pictures, but it is pretty organized.
The organizer stuff is Closetmaid, sold at Lowes and Home Depot. We did the type that can be moved around. There is another type that is stationary (not on those rails). The bins are from BB&B. They were for dorm rooms, I guess, but they had brown and that's what I wanted!
Fms~ The bathroom looks like it’s really coming together nicely! I really like the colors you’ve chosen, the complement each other really well. The tile looks very good! LOL, I’m not thinking I’m in need of closet organizers yet; we have a bunch of storage containers already in there, but I just need to empty them of their current contents (ie: old unused workout supplies, VHS tapes, etc), get rid of said contents, and put other stuff in there instead. The existing shelving is pretty good storagewise. LOL re: the kitty boppy!! :D Have fun at the birthing class! We start ours on Weds, and I can't wait!
Mobox~ Yay for getting stuff done! A website I've bought a couple of rugs off is www.thecompanystore.com. They have pretty decent prices.
hi ladies!
first a few SO
fms beautiful bathroom!! nice work!! you made me giggle about your dh's new favorite people!!
rancid looks like a fun shower!! i hope you can get your bp and skin issues worked out just fine...
BUT...we've had quite the past few days, actually. and, it all ends with strict bedrest for me. :-(
it all started last thurs and friday when i noticed i had some pretty big globs of discharge. i called the office on friday, but they didn't seem too overly concerned and thought as long as the baby was active (check) and there was no blood (check), that all would be fine. but, on saturday in the middle of the night, i noticed some liquid that gushed out. my first thought was i just really had to pee (even though i had been doing my kegels), but then my next thought was the my water had broken. i didnt sleep very well on saturday and when i woke up on sunday, i was still leaking a little bit of stuff. so, we called the mw again, and she told us to head into the hospital and they could check to see if the membrane had broken.
So, we went in and they did 3 tests to check to see if the membrane broke. 2 out of the 3 were negative (meaning, intact membrane) and the third was inconclusive. to be safe (i suppose) the mw did an internal check to see if she could see anything. well, turns out my cervix was very irritated, and it started to bleed as she was examining me and taking cultures (in case there is an infection) and while she was in there, she noticed that while i wasn't dialated, i am 50% effaced. plus, the baby was putting a lot of pressure on my cervix because he/she is sitting so low. and not only that, but she thought that my cervix felt pretty short. at our first ultrasound, the tech had mentioned that we were *just* barely normal in that sense.
SO, because my cervix was irritated and bleeding, this caused some pretty consistent BH contractions. (they had me on the monitors non stop. ugh) so, then they had to give me some meds to stop the contractions. but, they wanted to do an ultrasound for further confirmation that my membranes were in fact intact, and to check the length of my cervix to see how much it has changed int he past 10 weeks. there was pletny of amniotic fluid around the baby, but the guy had a hard time getting a good measurement of the cervix. so, he had to use the vaginal probe, which of course irritated my cervix even more. hence, more contractions. and not only that, but the baby is breech as of right now, so its the baby's butt putting pressure on my short, irritated cervix and not the head. 30 weeks is still early enough where breech isn't a concern, but still.
well, so, they wanted to monitor the contractions and try to keep them calm overnight. :-( :-( everything was very uneventful overnight and personally, i thought it was very silly that they made me stay in the hospital. plus, of course i didn't sleep well since they had the monitors on me and kept waking me up every few hours. but, they discharged me this morning with directions for strict bedrest for the time being. with my short cervix that is irritated and the baby butt pushing down...
i go into the office on wed for another appt and they're going to do a test to see if there's a chance that this baby will come preterm. and if so, I might have to travel to a nearby city because our one and only hospital in this town doesn't have a nicu.
they're hoping the bedrest will let the baby move away from the cervix and flip it around. they'll probably have me on bedrest until 35-36 weeks in which case they'd let labor happen.
so, that's my story. i'm really quite depressed about it all, and i'm already sore from laying down all day, espeically after a night in the hospital.
my poor dh. i like to do things especially since i've been in the nesting stage and we haven't really gotten anything together yet. so, this isn't going to be fun. and not only that, but i was supposed to have a shower at my mil's house but now we can't do that since it would mean a not so short car drive. boo.
ugh...thanks for letting me vent. i'm just a little sad. i just want this baby to be healthy!!
i hope everyone is doing well. i'll know more on wed when we take this test for pre term labor. :( :(
Mandersald - Oh dear! I'm sorry to hear about the problems you had this weekend and it sucks that you're now on bedrest. :( I hope that the test on Wednesday comes back normal.
mobox - Not sure what kind of rugs you are looking for but I did see some braided rugs in nice colors in an L.L. Bean catalog. I have also bought a rug from the Company Store and was very happy with their customer service (I ended up having to return it due to it snaging on the front door - not a problem with the rug - just my house!)
showers - I'm happy! Today, I had a friend from work offer to hostess a "non-work" shower for me and it turns out that my SIL has been wanting to help out with one as well. I can probably put the two of them together to host one together. :D I was thinking that I probably wouldn't have one other than the office shower that they do for every preggo. Getting kinda mopey about it actually - damn hormones.
3rd trimester - Well, I'm officially in the 3rd trimester now! Can I just say that I'm exhausted?! I have nesting urges but man, it is an effort to drag my butt off the sofa!
classes - We have our first class tomorrow night! Excited/dreading it at the same time. I've been avoiding thinking about the labor/delivery part of this whole adventure and I'm going to come face to face with it tomorrow night - yikes!
mandersald - ugh, doesn't sound like much fun! Good luck on the test results. I hope everything comes back just fine.
I am in the situation you might be in - no NICU at the local hospital, so I'm moving on Oct 21 to a furnished apt. near the "real" hospital. One of the joys of expecting twins - the doctors are pretty sure these little guys will come early. I"ll be working part time out of my company's the office there, so at least I'll have something to do. The bummer will be not having all of "my" baby stuff everywhere while the little guys are in their first few weeks. It's hard to think of what needs to go in a couple of suitcases and what can wait here. Not ideal, but whatever is best for the babies.
Meanwhile, my stretch marks are growing stretch marks and as of today, I weigh (at 28 weeks) what I weighed when DS was born at 40+ weeks. LOL
In better news, we are 75% done with names - we have one for the girl and a middle name for the boy. Progress!:)
Hi ladies! Sounds like everyone's making some serious progress!
Quick SOs off the the top of my head:
fms: Bathroom looks AWESOME! I love all of the tile work.
AmyE: I've been using a facial cream (Arbonne's Rejuvinating Cream) on my stretch marks and it's a miracle! I seriously love this stuff. It keeps my skin from itching too.
rancid: your shower looked awesome! Your friend did an incredible job decorating.
rosa: Nursery looks beautiful! Great job! I have that glider too but in mint. So comfy. I can't wait to use it.
As for me... I've been a big ball of emotions. I'm finding that I can't handle stress nearly as well as I used to. I get pretty frustrated when I just start crying over silly things. I won't miss this part of pregnancy at all!!
Childbirth class: We did the hospital tour last night and the labor/delivery/recovery room is awesome! They have a jacuzzi we can use during labor too if we want. The classes have me very paranoid that I'm truly unprepared!!
My 28 week appointment is next Monday, Oct. 9. Yay!
Mandersald~ I’m so sorry to hear about your scare last week! Ouch for the irritated cervix! Just do what the dr says and rest up, hopefully this baby will behave and stay put until full-term time. I hope that the test results turn up in your favor. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you and the baby, and keeping you guys in my thoughts.:)
AmyE~ Yay on getting some progress made with names!
Sandy~ I’ve been getting hit with overly active emotions too. I sat and cried the other night simply because a movie I’d been watching (a comedy too!!) had just ended and credits were rolling. NO reason whatsoever!! I don’t get it….
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I go in for my NST in t-minus 4.5 hours. I’m the slightest bit nervous (I mean, what if they do find something wrong??) but DH helped calm me down last night by assuring me that everything is ok, this is just something they have to do, etc etc.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In honor of me being 7 actual months along today (eek!! 2 months till my EDD!!) here are some 7mo. belly shots.
So I'm back, fresh from my non-stress test appointment at the hospital. We got checked in at Labor & Delivery and went upstairs to the Fetal Diagnostics office. Met with a very accomodating, nice technician who got me all set up in a comfy reclining chair in a room overlooking the beach/harbour.
Got all hooked up to the microphone thingies, one that monitored the baby's heartbeat and the other that monitored uterine contractions. She took my blood pressure (122/60 thank you very much) and asked why my dr had sent me there. I told her it was because she felt I had high bp at my ob appts so she wanted to make sure I wasn't destined for pre-e or something similar.
She asked if I'd had the PIH blood testing done (not sure what PIH means) and I said I had a blood draw last Friday for a whole bunch of tests, but hadn't heard back about the results yet. Got to relax in the comfy chair for a good half hour or so, watching the baby kick up a storm and make the microphones go all wacko, on occasion even messing up the transmission. His heartbeat looked fine, it was kinda neat to watch it go up when he moved and slow down when he stopped.
Afterwards, she took me across the hall to get an ultrasound to check on the fluid surrounding the baby, which also looks good. We got to see a little hand for all of 2 seconds, as well as watch the heart beating all a-flutter.
And that was it. I go back in on Friday for more. It was more relaxing than anything, especially since now it looks like there really isn't anything to worry about. What a relief!! And what a nice hospital too, wow!!
Here was my view while relaxing in the comfy chair:
rancid- glad your test was fine. Wow...what a view! definitely nothing here like that. Great belly shots which reminds me I need to take more.
Not much new here. I often wake up early now and can't go back to sleep so that is why I am up so early. I woke up for the bathroom at 4:40 and couldn't fall back asleep. Of course, I'll pay for it this afternoon at work when there is no chance for a nap.
rancid: Glad everything looked good! And that's great that the hospital was so nice!
************************************************** **
Since I am also in the "under 2 months left" category, I figured I would post my belly shot from this week. Here I am at 31 weeks, 2 days:
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a343/rosa727/IMG_0016.jpg
Something fun happened last night. My DH put his ear down on my belly and was finally able to hear the baby's heartbeat just by listening! I knew that it could be heard eventually, but I was excited he could already hear it. He said he could tell it was the baby's because it was about twice as fast as mine :)
I have also been having tons of BH contractions. AND it constantly feels like the baby is popping out the side of my stomach. Does anyone else feel this a lot? Like there is a big, hard ball that sticks out suddenly, stays for about 10-20 seconds, and then goes back. It happens all the time. Everyone else I talk to that has been PG has no idea what I am talking about. I wonder if it really is just more BH contractions? They feel sort of similar, and I have heard it also described as if the baby is "balling up".
Rancid13
10-04-2006, 08:56 AM
Rosa~ Cute belly shot!! I still can’t believe how close we’re getting to the end. That’s awesome that DH could hear the baby’s heartbeat!! My DH thought he felt our baby’s last week, but the thump-thumps he was indicating were far too slow for them to be a baby’s hb (I told him that he was probably feeling mine thru my belly and that the baby’s is almost twice as fast as that).
I haven’t been feeling any BH contrax that I know of, but while hooked up to the monitors at my NST yesterday there were quite a few uterine contrax that recorded during the 30 minutes that we were there, but I didn’t feel anything other than the baby’s movements, most of which occurred at the same time as the contrax (according to the graph we were watching).
It does often feel like he’s popping out the side of my belly, particularly if I’m lying on my left side. It freaks DH when his hand is in the right spot and baby just pops out all of a sudden. Seriously, sometimes it sends him running and me LOLing!:eek: :D
Nothing much to report on here except I need to comment that yesterday our little guy had so much freaking energy, I've NEVER felt him move around as much as he did all day yesterday. I'm talking all day long, and it was so funny during the NST when he was just kicking away at the monitors. I swear the tech had to reset everything 4 or 5 times during the 30 min. we were there b/c the transmission kept getting screwy as a result, and finally she just had me hold the hb monitor in place b/c he wouldn't sit still for more than 5 seconds. It was really comical, DH and I were just sitting there laughing the whole time. She was trying to do the u/s and he was kicking at the little thing there too. And on into the afternoon, evening and night. And he's still kicking away as I type this. What a little bundle of energy!! We may have our work cut out for us!
I also have somewhat of a head cold. No biggie. Woke up at 4am yesterday with a slight sore, scratchy throat and congested head. Have been taking Tylenol Cold (on my dr's "okayed" OTC list) and Ricola. It's not too bad, just feel a bit congested w/a runny nose. It's honestly nothing compared to the skin issues of the last few months.
We start our childbirth classes tonight, I can't wait!! :D
I passed my 3-hour diabetes test! :)
Thanks for all the compliments on the bathroom. We're on a roll. The granite countertop is scheduled to be in right week. That means we can install the vessel sinks soon.
Rancid...glad to hear the NST went smoothly. The view you had looks awesome. I think we're going to have a little ball of energy as well. It seems as though the baby is really active at night. DH loves to poke at the baby to wake it up and then leave me to deal with my internal hip pulverizer. Tylenol cold is your friend. Use it wisely Your belly shots are looking cute. :)
Rosa...I'm going to fedex you a box of donuts so that you can catch up to the rest of us ;) You look great. I too have have the ball thing going with the baby. Mine is usually balled up when I wake up and then proceeds to stretch out and kick my hips.
Sunshine...try to get some rest tonight.
Sandy...do your best to get though each day and don't beat yourself up over your emotions. Hormones turn us into "other" versions of ourselves that aren't our true selves. Eventually, you'll feel like yourself again. Oh and labor, who is ever truly prepared? Your body will take over. Relax and trust yourself.
AmyE...yikes. Hope all goes well with the move to be closer to the hospital. How exciting it must be to be waiting for two babies!
Katmg....hope the classes went well and that your energy comes back soon.
Mandersald...OMG. Take care of yourself and the little one. Bed rest sucks but, it will be over soon enough. What a scary time you went through. I wouldn't stress too much about "getting things ready." The baby has no idea where it's sleeping and if the nursery doesn't get "done" by the baby comes, who cares. You can always work on it after. Babies need healthy mommies more than pretty rooms ;)
Mobox...good for you that you are checking off your to-do list. I would suggest IKEA, Pier One or World Market for rugs but am not sure you are near any of these.
Ok, sorry if I missed anyone with a SO but, my day is over and I have a site visit to make.
Fms~ Congratulations on passing the 3-hr test!! LOL re: your DH poking the baby at night!!:D My little guy likes to scare my DH by moving really violently and suddenly oftentimes when he places a hand on my belly. DH seriously jumps like 10 feet when he does that, it makes me laugh so hard!!
Just wanted to drop by to say that I had my monthly check up today and everything is looking good. My doctors office is scheduling my c-section for December 21st! I get to meet my little guy in 11 weeks :) (unless he comes sooner). I'm so excited to have the date. I also took my 1 hour glucose test today so hopefully I will pass.
I had to go to the hospital on Sunday because I had a throbbing headache for 2 days and it would not go away. My doctor wanted to check for pre-eclampsia...all my bloodwork and BP were fine except my sugar levels were high. The bad part was they gave me two different types of medicine to make the headache go away (which didn't work) and it made me throw up like 9 or 10 times. I also had to get a catscan which is not good for the baby. It turns out I have sinusitis so they gave me an antibiotic.
Mandersald - I'm sorry you have to be on bedrest. Hang in there and just remember it will all be worth it when your little one is here.
Rancid-glad everything is going well. Looks like you had a blast at your shower. Your belly shots look great!
Rosa-Your nursery is so cute! You are so talented!
Rancid- Your shower looked like fun! I love all the decorations.
fms-The shower turned out great, I love all the tile work. Also, congrats on passing the 3 hour!
mandersald-Sorry about the bedrest. If it makes you feel any better we didn't have a room set up for months for our son after he was born because we moved when he was a week old. Matter of fact, we JUST finished painting his room that we started painting when he was a month old. He is 3 now! I still haven't hung up anything from when he was a baby. I am WAY Behind!
Nesting- I have no nesting urges at all. I am so tired all the time.
NJMom That is so great that you have your c/s scheduled. I am trying for a VBAC but I will probably end up with a c/s.
We got back from our Boston trip a few days ago. I ended up in a wheelchair on the last day because I walked so much in Boston that I pulled a muscle or something in my left leg. I was in so much pain, it was horrible. I have had really bad groin pain since about 20 weeks. I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow and I have to take my sugar test so we will see what they say.
AND it constantly feels like the baby is popping out the side of my stomach
Our little guy is always doing this. You can see something stick out of my stomach, it is the most bizarre thing.
NJMom: That is so exciting that you have a date set for your C-section! It's nice to be able to plan right down to the day.
tinkerbell: I'm sorry to hear you ended up in a wheelchair. I hope the rest of your trip was good. When I was in Boston in July for my anniversary (we were married there), I also got a horrible leg cramp. It is the only one I have gotten in the entire pregnancy too. I was about 1/2 mile from our hotel, and I limped back. But it was really bad - all through my thigh. Luckily, it was late, and I just went to bed. It was better the next day. There must be something about Boston!
Just a quick fly by... but I have the baby wanting to escape thing too. Weird part is when he's doing that he shifts my belly button an inch to the left. It's so weird looking!!
Hope y'all have a great day!
I had a 3/d u/s yesterday and baby didn't want to cooperate and we didn't get any good facial shots so my OB is going to let us have another 3/d the first of November. :)
Other than that I am doing ok, I have swelling which is not good but my blood pressure is fine and my total weight gain has been 7 lbs so far. Seeing the Dr every 2 weeks now :)
NJMom~ I’m happy to hear that your appt went well, and how exciting to have your c-section scheduled already! Sorry to hear about the headaches and the vomiting caused by the medications. Here’s hoping the antibiotic helps with the sinusitis.:)
Tinkerbelljenny~ Sorry to hear about you hurting your leg! :( I hope your dr’s appt goes well.
Carissa~ That’s too bad the baby was uncooperative at the 3D u/s…but at least you get to schedule a re-do! Whoohoo for the every-two-weeks appts!:D
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

My head cold got worse last night and I woke up this morning with a very bad cough, headache, sore throat and totally stuffed up head. I took the morning off and headed into work a little after noontime, to get caught up on some stuff. Feeling slightly better, but definitely still stuffed up and looking forward to resting some more this evening.

We had our first childbirth class last night, which was a lot of fun and quite informative, considering I already wasn't feeling well and was still exhausted from a poor night's sleep the night before. There about 12 other couples there, and it was the first child for all of them (as it is for us), so this is turning out to be a huge learning experience for all of us. The instructor seems really cool, she also teaches the BFing class I'm attending next week. During break a bunch of us raided the orientation room and stole cookies, lemonade and bottled water. We capped off the class with 20 minutes of yoga-mat time, with our partners seated behind us (Matterhorn Boblsed style) helping us do these deep breathing techniques and also massaging us (which was reeeeally nice!).

I go into the hospital tomorrow again for my second NST. Here's hoping it will be as successful (and uneventful) as the first one!

I'll do SOs later once I get caught up with everything...

I haven't been around a lot lately because work has been crazy and stressful and by the time I get home I'm so exhausted I just veg out or go to bed. I have been thinking about using some of my FMLA time now because I've been having such a hard time keeping up with everything because I'm so exhausted. Every day when I leave work I'm afraid I'm going to fall asleep during my drive home.

I went to the doctor this morning and I told him about the frequency of my contractions (BH) and he decided to do an internal exam to make sure things are ok. He said my cervix was closed, but he was slightly concerned with the position of it. He wants me to get an ultrasound done to check my cervix and I have to have the NSTs twice a week. I'm also off work until further notice, but I'm not being put on full-time bedrest at this point. They told me not to do any shopping or anything else that would put me on my feet for an extended period of time, but I don't have to stay in bed the whole time. Basically I just have to relax, which at this point is perfectly fine with me!

Okay, I stopped being lazy and opened a Photobucket account since Shutterfly still wasn't showing up here. As such, here's photos of the nursery decorated in Malawi. These are all from last year but not much has changed (other than organizing it a bit ;) ). Excuse the European date stamp. DH was still trying figure out the new digital camera when these were taken. :rolleyes:

My artistic use of wallpaper border. Okay, it's not a handpainted mural (stop showing me up, Rosa) but I like the way it turned out.

http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n138/sophiapb/Rehobeth%209-06/April-May2005-gettingready009.jpg

Okay, the paint border color is a wee bit bright (it didn't look that fluorescent at Home Depot!) but hey, it's a kid's room! We can get away with it. :p
We still have three framed Malawi prints which need to be hung up and the occasional little tweak here and there but other-wise, it's good to go. Thank goodness since my ever expanding belly is totally limiting what I can do so having the nursery be ready and waiting is one less thing to stress about!

janu98 - For the 3 hr test I was told to fast 10-12 hours prior to the test. This also included no water but I did sneak a few sips! I was able to eat ice chips during the test. Also, in the few days leading up to the test I gave up my sweets and tried to eat low carb as I was determined to pass the test and I did! Good luck!

Delaney~ Keep up with the resting/relaxing! Sorry to hear you’ve been so exhausted, I’ve been feeling that way lately too. One of the fun things we get to deal with in the 3rd trimester, eh? :)

Sophia~ Your nursery looks great! I love the look of that changing table/dresser combo!:D

Sophia: I think the colors in your nursery are great! You can definitely get away with a nice bright color in a kid's room. In fact, I prefer that to really bland colors. I think it looks great!

**************************************************

I can't believe my EDD is less than 8 weeks away!!!! I am so excited :D My mom and FIL came to visit this weekend, and the next time they see me I will have a baby! They also brought lots of fun gifts, which was nice :) And the baby was SO active the whole time that they got to feel him move tons. He still moves pretty much all day every day. At least he is quiet at night.

I have my next u/s in about a week, and I am SO impatient to see him again! We also have our baby care class this week, which should be good. My DH is excited about it.

I'm feeling good, but I feel like the baby is really low now. I guess he must be getting into position!

Rosa~ We’re really starting to get close now! I freak out when I look at what week I’m at, like how did I get here so quickly?!? I’m totally excited, I can’t wait to meet this little guy who’s been beating up my insides so much these last few weeks, LOL. That’s awesome you get to have another u/s! We had one last week, but it was just to check on the fluid around the baby and wasn’t the regular kind where you get to see stuff (lots of colors~reds, greens, etc). We did see a hand for like 2 seconds, and the heart and that was it. I would love to have a regular u/s again though. I’ll bet he looks huge in there by now!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Nothing much to update on here. My cold gets better by the day, hopefully it'll be gone soon enough. I have my BFing class tonight. DH couldn't get the evening off from work, so SIL is going with me for support/company.
I have a message in to my ob's office because I want to find out when I can stop going to these NST's every other day, they're really getting to be a pain considering that all the findings point to the fact that everything's A-OK with both me and the baby (my bp continues to be down). Also want to find out the results of all those blood draws I had done a couple weeks ago, since that was one of the big things my doc was stressing about. I'm sure all is fine so I'd rather not waste 1.5-2 hours twice a week dealing with traffic driving to the hospital, parking, and waiting for 30+ minutes in the waiting room only to be told that all looks good after being hooked up to the monitors for 20 minutes and getting u/s done.
My bp was up on one particularly stressful day that I had an ob appt and I feel like my ob panicked unnecessarily and is having me do all these tests for nothing.:rolleyes: I'm at the point where I feel like having to take the extra time off from work (and therefore losing $) is more stressful and less beneficial to me/the baby than actually going in and getting all these additional tests done...tests which say that all is well. Maybe I'm just having a bad attitude about things right now...
*snort* I'm a Detroit girl who's married to a Brooklyn boy. Let me tell you, it's been fun in our house for the past week! Honestly, I am a Yankees fan but in a game between New York and Detroit, I'll always be loyal to the Tigers. We watched Game 3 Friday night and I would clap when Detroit scored and DD would get all excited by my clapping and clap too! Since the Yankees never scored, DD never got a chance to clap for New York. DH was actually very annoyed at New York and was totally disgusted with A-Rod. On Saturday, DH turned off the tv during the 6th inning and gave up. I kept checking the score and was thrilled when Detroit won but tried not to be TOO overjoyed for DH's sake. ;) Now please excuse me while I do a little happy dance.
sophiapb I am married to a Detroit boy and it has been pure joy in my house since the win! :) Go Tigers
I had a great check up with my specialist yesterday. He said he didn't need to see me again for four weeks then he would take out my cerclage. I am so excited. We could see the baby practicing his breathing and sucking his thumb. So cute.
We started painting the nursery hopefully we will be done by the end of the week. I picked up my bedding from Pottery Barn Kids, I got such a great deal. Now I just need to find cute pics and decide if I am going to do wall letters.
Hi there,
Hope everyone is well. No time for SOs as I am at work but I wanted to check in, read how everyone is doing and post.
Things with me are good. However, here are my few minor vents:
1. Sleeping is starting to really suck. :rolleyes: I'm uncomfortable with the snoogle and I keep rolling onto my back without it so there's no perfect solution. My arms fall asleep too, sigh. Not much longer though, right? That's what I keep telling myself.
2. I have a lot of pressure on my gall bladder and it aches. I talked to the midwife about it at my last appointment and based on the type of pain and the action required to relieve it (stretching out), she said its not a problem with my gb, just that it's under pressure from lack of space. So that is good news, as I was worried I was having gall bladder attacks. Luckily I'm not. The bad news is that there is not much that can be done about the discomfort and it will probably get worse as my uterus expands. Again, not much longer though, right?
End of Vents. All in all, not too terrible.
House stuff is going. We've had lots of showings but no offer yet. Our house is small but its nice so we just need the right people to walk through and I'm sure we'll get a buyer. We didn't price too high so I'm sure it's only a matter of time.
We've put an offer in on a new house too (conditional on the sale of our home). It's built, but not finished (no floors, kitchens, bathrooms, etc.). It's a 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom 2-storey on a nice lot not too far from where we live now. It's a really nice layout and we get to pick all the floors and kitchen and bathroom stuff which will be fun. So cross your fingers that our house sells soon, otherwise our offer is voided. :( I don't think that will happen though, the market is good.
I'm having two showers and they are on consecutive Saturdays, starting on the 21st. I'm really looking forward to both of them.
We also start our childbirth classes next weekend. We have two full day classes over two consecutive Sundays. Something else to look forward to.
Oh, and good news! I passed the 1-hour GD test! Yay!!
:) Allison
Hi everyone... My friend had a baby Thursday so I went Thursday by myself and then DH and I both went Friday night. Very exciting to think that will be us very soon!! DH was holding the baby and he was crying and wouldn't stop so I took him, and then he stopped. DH is definitely intimidated by crying babies so we'll need to work on that. I have expereince over the years after the tons of babysitting I did when I was younger (including quadruplets by myself!) but it will definitely be different when it is our own.
Still picking up odds and ends for the nursery. Our chair came in so we picked that up on Saturday. It looks really nice so I'll have to take pictures. We also did our hospital tour and filled out a bunch of paperwork on Saturday. We even listed our daughter's name on the Birth Certificate form and left the date blank :) There were definitely an odd mix of people there but I guess you'll have that in hospitals. The tour was about 1/2 hour and we saw the birthing and delivery room...no big shocks so that was nice. I definitely think it was good for my DH to see everything so he can mentally prepare. Our class is not for about another month b/c they were booked or we had conflicts. We went to the Cheesecake Factory that night for dinner...yum! I did get a piece of cheesecake but just had a few bites and finished it up finally last night. Sunday night my mom took usout for our anniversary dinner and then I was off yesterday due to teh holiday. I went and visited and ate lunch with a forend and then did some errands. One of which was Babies R Us to add a few things to the registry and change some things, too. My friend said she mailed the invites out so people shoudl be getting them any day!
I was a klutz this am and fell and tripped (landed on my knees) but I still called my Dr and then checked me out to be safe. Everything was fine. I was supposed to go next Monday for my next appt but they just did everything today so now I am on the two week Dr schedule. The Dr felt around and said she feels head down so that is good..although she could ve out of that position but it is just cool how they can tell that.
I'm back from my trip, let me see if I can catch up.
mobox I don't have an LJ account, maybe I'll set one up. I don't have time for a journal but I do know lots of people over there.
fms the bathroom looks great and congrats on passing the 3hr.
rancid cute belly shots. Your belly looks a lot more comfortable now. Well, the skin does anyway. Sorry about the cold. I'm glad the NSTs look good nd hope you can stop going soon.
NJMom sorry about the sinusitis. Ouch!
tinkerbelljenny I hope your leg is better
allison78 I randomly had two people warn me over the weekend that after they delivered they had emergency gall bladder surgery and thought it was because of all the TUMS they ate. They also admitted that there's no scientific evidence for this so it might be one of those old wives tales but I thought I'd mention it.
The trip was good. We had a lot of fun. Driving across the country while pg was not that bad. Severla people thought I was crazy but then, they are having/did have tougher pregnancies than I am currently having. When we got to the other side my friend treated me to a PN massage. It was sooo nice. DH says I should get more of them if I want :)
We also had a shower while we were out there and got lots of fun stuff. I will have to put up some pics, the decorations were so cute. They did a combination of fish and dinosaurs.
Man only 10 more weeks! I really can't believe it. We still haven't started painting the nursery but hopefully in the next two weekends, the hall and the baby's room will be done.
We have our first shower on Saturday. My SIL is throwing a couples shower for us so all of our married friends are coming. It should be nice to have DAve involved in a shower so that he feels more connected. HE so busy with teaching and going to school that a lot of the little stuff is passing him by. He is burning the candle at both ends...I just want us both to enjoy these next two months!
Sleeping sucks, as you all can agree I"m sure. I am never comfortable and getting up to pee is starting to get painful (mostly on my lower back when I get up from laying down).
Other than that--no complaints.
Oh wait, one complaint. Today I went to buy the glider chair at Costco.com (per Rancid's suggestion--thanks!) and they raised their prices from $399 to $499 for the glider/ottoman set. What is up with that! I mean I looked at it two weeks ago and it was still under $400. I tend to think it's probably the best price, considering BRU doesn't have the color I want. Dave will like that it's made in the USA.
Opinions on cost please?
Popping in to say hello! I've decided I can't keep up with this thread. When I have time to read, I usually don't have time to write and when I have time to write, I don't have time to go back and catch up with SOs. Anyway, glad to see some of your nurseries! So cute!
Had an u/s last week and everything looks good. Baby was head down and placenta (which was low last time) had moved up. All set! Got a better shot and definitely looked like a girl. :)
We're redoing our master bath so we're staying in the baby's room until it's done. Once it is finished, we'll paint the master, move our stuff in, and decorate the baby's room. I really hope it is finished soon! I was hoping for the end of October but it might be the beginning of November. :( Hopefully, I won't run out of energy by then.
Showers None that I know of. I'm a little bummed because I've gone to a few mini-showers for friends that were having the opposite sex for the second child. I say they were mini-showers because most people gave clothes and not big ticket items that one usually gets for first babies. We definitely don't need any of the big items but I would love some girl clothes!!
I started a thread on induction by amniotomy. Any ROs have any experience with that?
Pacific - That is awful! I'm sorry you're having to deal with that right now.
Pacific - That's crazy that she is bringing this up after 5 years! I'm sorry you are going through this right now!
mo - that is a good price for the glider, most of the ones I have seen are more than that. Its too bad the price increased though.
baby position - a lot of you have posted that your baby is head down, does your baby still flip around a lot, or is he/she pretty much happy in that position? My baby changes his position every time I move. If I'm laying on my side, he lays sideways across my belly, but if I'm sitting up he'll be in a head down position. He is constantly moving!
On a side note - this semi-bedrest thing sucks! I'm so bored! I'm sure once I get the daytime tv line-up figured out it will be better, but right now I'm going crazy!
I passed my one hour...WHOO HOO! I am very excited about that because I was worried! Everything else looks good but I met with the nurse last week because all the doctors were busy so she didn't seem that interested in seeing me. I told her about my leg and how much it hurts and that I was in a wheelchair and I wanted to know what I could do to make it feel better and she said "Uh huh", "do you have any other questions?" :rolleyes: Another reason why I hate this OB office but since I live in a rural area this is my only choice. I told DH that if we have #3 then we are not going to that office, I don't care if I have to drive all the way to Canada to find another OB, I will!
I have my next appointment this Friday with an actual doctor.
Sleeping-Sucks here too. My back hurts so much and I still have major groin pain and sleeping on my side makes it worse.
Sophia-Your nursery looks great! I love that border color!
Sunshine- Glad you are okay after your fall. I have tripped and fell a couple of times.
mobox Does that glider include free shipping?
pacificbliss That is horrible! And it has been so long! Wow, I hope it all turns out okay for you.
bluebunny No second shower for me either but I have been making up for it and buying a ton of new clothes for the baby! :D
Allison78 The new house sounds really nice! We put an offer on a house a few months ago but they didn't accept so we decided just to wait until after winter to start looking again.
Car seats- I still need to buy a new infant seat. Our last one was recalled I think. I saw that Target.com had free shipping if you buy two baby gear items so I might do that.
Hope everyone is having a great day!
Allison~ Sorry to hear that sleeping is starting to suck for you…I haven’t had a good night’s rest in several weeks now. It seems I just can’t get comfortable, then when I do I have a heck of a time finally falling asleep. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that someone wants your house so you can sell it and get that new one! Congrats on passing the 1-hr GD!
Sunshine~ That’s great that you guys got to spend some time with your friend’s new baby and tour the hospital to get familiar with where you’ll be in just a couple short months. Glad to hear that you and the baby are ok after your klutzy fall, LOL.:p
Pacificbliss~ Welcome back! Glad to hear that driving cross country while pg wasn’t too hard on you. The massage sounds heavenly! I can’t wait to see the shower pics, it sounds very cute! And OMG about the summons, what the heck?! I would’ve panicked.:(
Mobox~ That sucks that Costco raised their price on the glider/ottoman! I’ve had that page bookmarked for months now, and like you said it’s the only place that has that particular glider/ottoman in those colors. BRU only had the green one available for order, but luckily that’s the color we wanted. I think if that’s the one you want (ie: you’ve tested others and decided that this is the one for you) then even at $499 the price is pretty darn good compared to what you’ll find with the upholstered glider/ottoman combos at PB and Babystyle and other nursery furniture-related sites.
Bluebunny~ I’m happy to hear that all looks well with the baby! Hopefully you’ll get the baby’s room done by the time you start to run out of energy.
Sophia~ Yay for everything looking good AND getting the c/s scheduled! Wow, to have an actual date as to when baby will definitely be here, exciting! I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the big GTT.
Baby position~ I’ve noticed that my little guy has been head down for the last week or so. Last Tuesday I went in for my first NST at the hospital, and while the tech was feeling around for where to put the monitors, she found the head in my pelvis area and mentioned that he was head down. So every night when I lie in bed now I feel around and sure enough, his big round head has been down there. Dunno if he changes positions during the day, because he's constantly moving around all freaking day long, but he always ends up head down come nightfall.:D
Tinkerbelljenny~ Congratulations on passing your 1-hr!! Sorry to hear that your ob isn’t really very helpful to you, that stinks. Just another couple months to go with them at least.
Nursery~ DH has finally emptied the extra bedroom of ALL his stuff! Everything is in storage, and the baby stuff and his Disney collectibles that was taking up room in our living room floor and dining room table are GONE. The baby stuff is in the closet in the extra bedroom, everything else is in storage. He was going to get started on spackling and prepping for painting last night, wonder how it went. He likes to work on that sort of stuff in the middle of the night, while I’m asleep, and I forgot to peek into the room this am to check it out. This is the bedding set we have: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v432/rancid13/babybedding005.jpg
And we've decided to do something similar with the walls as they've done in the picture. We picked out the paint colors last night and DH will be working on it these next couple weeks, depending on how long everything takes. Our nursery furniture is awaiting pick-up at BRU so I'm ready to get everything together and organized already.
Just wanted to let you guys know that one of the November mommies had her baby yesterday! It's getting close for you guys too!!! :)
I know, I'm still reeling from that. :)
We're getting close, ladies! I have a very strong feeling that my little guy is gonna end up being a end-of-November baby...
Ok, I just went to Costco.com and checked out the glider/ottoman, and from what I can recall now that I'm out of my post-lunch haze, it's always been $499 for the set. I remember this b/c the same set at BRU is $369.99 + 139.99 and there was only like a $10 difference b/t getting it at BRU and getting it at Costco, but since we had gc's, cash and store credit at BRU we opted to order it thru them instead. :o
Hi all. No time for shout-outs but wanted to drop by and update.
I have to say that feeling I'm better than I have in a long time. My back is not hurting so much, I have not needed to get up in the middle of the night to pee in a week, and I'm generally feeling good. I know that this honeymoon will not last but, I'm enjoying it while I can. I shot my last wedding for this year this past weekend and it went really well. I think that the exercise really helped my back as I've been babying my body in preparation for the event. Maybe I should have just stuck with my routine and then I would have felt better. Who knows. The world of a preggo is a strange and mysterious place.
I just found out today that two girls I played basketball with in college had their babies last week. One was a few days early and the other was a few weeks early. I feel like it was yesterday that the "pregnancy confessional" email went around where we all admitted that we were with child. Where has the time gone? I have two friends due at the end of November that I will be taking preggo photos of this weekend. I think my assistant is going to do mine the following weekend. I go back and forth on how pregnant I want to remember myself. We do plan on having another someday and I don't want to lose my motivation ;)
My parents made major progress on the nursery. Similar to Rancid, all of the crap has found a new home and the room has baby stuff only. The walls and closet are painted, the ceiling fan is in place, and the blinds are hung. We need for the furniture to arrive and then I'll take some photos.
I have two appointments next week. Hemotoligist on Wednesday and regular doctor on Friday. I think I start the two week appointments after that.
Rancid-I love your bedding! It is so cute! And I love those colors in the bedding. We will probably use the same bedding that we used with our DS but I did find some Thomas Tank crib sheets yesterday so I may have my mom make a comforter to match, my son is a huge train fanatic and I am sure the second baby will be too.
fms-That is so great that you are feeling really well!
Off to the spa....ah...heaven...........
rancid the bedding is so cute.
fms I'm glad you're feeling good. I will cross my fingers that it stays that way.
November babies are arriving!!!! It's getting close.
tinkerbelljenny congrats on passing the 1hr.
First the baby stuff update- the crib and dresser will arrive tomorrow night and DH plans to start finishing them this weekend! Yay, then I feel like I can stat to organize.
As for the summons- I got in touch with my old insurance (nationwide) and told them what happened. They are th insurance I had at the time of the accident. She was very reassuring. She asked me to fax the paperwork so she could give it to their attorneys who would then call me. Apparently, they were never able to settle with this woman. She tried to blame all her existing problems on this accident. Nationwide was apparently expecting this and sent me a letter but the mail forwarding had expired so I never got it. At this point I feel like the atorneys at the insurance company are better that anything we could afford so I will just work with them. I am crossing my fingers that she settles with Nationwide or is only awarded an amount covered by the insurance I had. It won't be settled for months so I try to push it out of my mind.
Showers None that I know of. I'm a little bummed because I've gone to a few mini-showers for friends that were having the opposite sex for the second child. I say they were mini-showers because most people gave clothes and not big ticket items that one usually gets for first babies. We definitely don't need any of the big items but I would love some girl clothes!!
I know how you feel I am not getting a shower for this one either it kinda bums me out since we are having a boy and all we have are pink things :)
tinkerbell Yay for passing your 1 hr gtt!
hi ladies-
tinkerbelljenny congrats on passing the gtt!! how was the spa?!
rancid cute bedding!! i can't wait to get our nursery set up
pacificbliss ugh on the summons. i hope it gets cleared up with your insurance co. sounds like the lawyers have a handle on it.
delaney hope that the semi-bedrest is going well for you!! i hope you make it more than 5 more weeks!! i'm keeping my fingers crossed.
showers i was supposed to have one last week, but with the whole bedrest thing we had to cancel it!! boo.
baby position this littlebug is still sitting butt down. he/she has been flipping around a bunch though so hopefully some time soon we'll be in the right position. our mw isn't too concerned about that at this point.
----------------
well, i had a very good appt with my mw today. the bottom line is that i can come off bedrest!!! horray!! i think the whole situation was blown out of proportion. turns out that i have/had an everted cervix. not only does it cause extra discharge but that it is very irritable. so, that's what the main problem was, and because i kept getting poked and my cervix started to bleed that everything went out of control.
but the good news is that the contractions i had becuase of the bleeding (which were really just bh contractions) have calmed down.
on top of having an everted cervix, they were nervous that it was too short, so they redid an us today to check and it looks a ok!! and closed!! having an everted cervix during pg isn't that big of a concern either since it usually corrects itself and is caused by extra estrogen.
anyways, i am still on "modified" bedrest, but at least i can actually DO things now. they did a fetal fibronectin test on me last week, and that came back negative so that means that this baby is gonna stay put for at least another week. (the test is good for 2 weeks)
horray horray! we're hoping for a minimum of 4 more weeks since i don't want to have to travel and hour and a half to the nearest nicu center.
pacific-I am glad to hear that your insurance is going to resolve the situation! Sounds like the woman just wants to get some money out of the whole deal, frustrating! This is something you don't need to deal with especially at this time! I hope it all works out for you! Keeping my fingers crossed too!
mandersald-Good news on getting "modified" bedrest! I am sorry about your shower being canceled but maybe it can be rescheduled for another date or what is really cute is to have a "meet the baby party" where everyone gets to actually meet your little one.
Carissa-We could go shopping together for cute boy clothes! Even though I already have a little boy I can't stop myself from buying new things. :D I can't imagine how I would be if I had a girl, I would go insane shopping!
Went to the spa last night. Wanted to get a massage but they don't do pregnancy massages there so I just got my eyebrows done. Going back soon for a facial. I will have to find another place to get the massage. I am dying for a back massage and my Dh keeps saying he will give me one but he seems to always be tired. :rolleyes:
Breastpump-Has anyone bought one? And if so, which one did you get?I need to get a new one.
tinkerbelljenny Oh I'd love to go shopping with ya :)!
I had a prenatal massage right before Grace was born it was heavenly.
Breastpump I got the Pump in Style, I had a cheapie the last time and wanted something a lot better.
Fms~ That’s good news that you’re feeling better! The world of a preggo is indeed a strange and mysterious place, LOL! How neat that several girls on your b-ball team are (were?) all pg at the same time!:)
Tinkerbelljenny~ Thanks for the bedding compliments! There was actually 1 bedding set that I originally liked more than this one, but then I fell in love with the colors (I loooove cool oceany colors) and DH fell in love with it too. Oooh, lucky you got to go a spa. I’m dying for a facial and massage. I’m hoping to get a gc for my favorite spa so I can sneak in a prenatal massage in the next few weeks~ tomorrow’s DH and my 6-year anniversary of the night we met (also a Friday the 13th) so I’m hoping for a teeny gift like that. It would be soooo appreciated by me, that's for sure. ;)
Pacificbliss~ Yay on baby furniture arriving!! What a headache with the summons though, hopefully the ins co. is right and everything will get handled without too much stress on your end.:)
Mandersald~ Yay for getting to come off bedrest, that’s fantastic news!!! :D I’m so glad to hear they found out what it was that was causing the bleeding and now you’re able to get up and do things again! I would be so mad if I were put on bedrest, I was sick last Thursday (that’s when my cold really knocked me down) and even then had to be out of bed by 12pm because I couldn’t stand it any longer. Yeah I got to watch 3 hours of SATC on DVD, but I can only handle lying down and/or propping myself up for so long before I go stir-crazy.
Breastpump~I found out that SIL has a Medela Pump In Style breast pump that she only used for a few weeks 2 years ago so it's practically brand new still, that she's letting me borrow. I would just need to buy the accessories for it ($30 at BRU) and this saves me a few hundred $ so I don't have to buy a brand new one (or rent one at my hospital). The LC that taught my BFing class on Monday had a lot of good things to say about the PIS (nice acronym, by the way) and even had one on display for the expectant mothers to check out.
Breastpump: I have not taken my BF class yet, so I am not sure what they are going to say there, but when I had a private consultation with the LC, she REALLY suggested that I get a Medela brand. I think I am definitely going to need one because of my "plumbing" issues, so I am going to try to make a very careful decision about this.
Rancid: Again, I love that bedding. It was one of the first sets that really caught my eye - gorgeous colors!
Another positive vote for the Medela Pump in Style. It got me through nine months of multiples times per day pumping and hopefully it will hold out for another 9+ month tour of duty this next time around!
Drive-by....
I thought I spend so much time researching baby items. I just want to buy everything once and be done. Any RO's have suggestions on a diaper pail? From what I've read, it seems that the Diaper Genie II works the best. (For the record, I could care less how expensive the refills are. We bought a similar refill system for our litter boxes and I'm the idiot who bought the trash can that has a lid that opens and closes by a laser system. I don't do well with bad smells and am willing to pay to eliminate them.) FYI, ON had some onesies on sale for $1.99 each yesterday. I bought 10 different items and spent about $35 total. Shopping for clothes has been a little tough considering that we don't know the sex. My DH is very laid back about the clothes. Considering that I wear a significant amount of black, white and khaki, we joke that the baby needs it's own black onesies and khaki pants. We can always accessorize ;)
Today, I waddle. The little one is back in the "sitting on Mommy's tailbone" position. It hurts. I have tried talking to the baby, bribing the baby, stretching, rollling, etc. No go. This little one is Stubbon.
Have a good weekend all!
fms-I swear by the Diaper Champ. Easy to use, no refills since you can use any plastic bag and it really keeps the smell in.
Rancid: Again, I love that bedding. It was one of the first sets that really caught my eye - gorgeous colors!
Thanks! DH and I love it too. I wanted something cute for a boy that wasn’t fire trucks or sports or boats. I fell in love with the colors, I love ocean colors!
Fms~ I haven’t heard very good things about the Diaper Genie both here and elsewhere. Not sure if the DG II is different from it though. We were going to register for one, and my bro and SIL talked us out of it b/c they used one for my niece and it did fine for the BFing diapers, but once they started her on formula the DG did nothing to contain the stink. My bro was having to empty it out several times a day and eventually they stopped using it and just took the diapers out to the trash after changing her. I ended up getting a Diaper Champ after reading lots of rave reviews about it in this thread:
http://www.constantchatter.com/forum/showthread.php?t=591&highlight=diaper
And it uses whatever regular bags you have on hand, you don’t have to buy specific refills for it or anything.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I had my 33w checkup this morning and all looks good. My ob reviewed my blood draw & urine sample results from 2 weeks ago and everything came out good, nothing was out of the ordinary (they did a bunch of different tests, like 2 pages worth) but everything is A-OK. I'm measuring right at 33cm although I feel a lot bigger than that. She's still concerned about my blood pressure :rolleyes: because it's been consistantly higher (mid 120's to 130's over 60) than it was at my first appt with them. I pointed out that I also weigh 20-something pounds more than at my first appt so my bp wasn't likely to change until my weight dropped back down.

I also had an NST appt this morning at the hospital, where my bp was recorded at 123/55 thankyouverymuch. :D Everything is still looking good but my ob wants me to continue the twice-weekly NST sessions from now until I deliver. Go figure. Little guy seemed to be alseep for the first 10-15 minutes or so, his hr was in the 130's for a good while there (usually it's right around 140). I guess the spritzer they gave me woke him up b/c he was jumping around in there and his hr went into the 170's on occasion. Got some good readings so that's all good I suppose.

Some 33w belly shots from last night....

Wait for it....now the belly goes POP!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v432/rancid13/33w0d004.jpg

:D

Funny how much smaller my belly looks (to me) when there's something covering it, then as soon as I lift up my shirt it's jutting out like no one's business.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!!

Sorry, not enough time for SO's but I had to drop by to say to Rancid that I love your bedding set too! Also, I can't believe you are at 33 weeks! I had my boys at 33 weeks 1 day and they are doing just great. Your belly shots are really cute! :)

Sophia - Congrats on your c/s date. Isn't it nice to know the date! You are about 1 week ahead of me.

All is good here but life is going to get very crazy. Besides being 29 weeks pregnant with 2 20 month old toddlers to take care of, my DH is having back surgery in 2 weeks. I haven't said much to him about it because I don't want him to worry but I am hoping I will manage being able to take care of everything that needs to be done for my boys and him and us while being 31+ weeks pregnant. I also hope this little guy doesn't come early (unless it's just a week or so). I know everything will work out but I am a little nervous about everything falling into place.

I also have good news, we picked out a first name for our new little guy - Joshua! We still need to finalize a middle name but I'm really happy to have the first name picked. :)

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Thanks!! I couldn't even imagine having a little one (or two) this early...I freak out when I think about what's coming in ~1.5 months which sometimes feels like a lifetime and other times feels like it's tomorrow. Cute name, I love it!!

Rancid-You look great! BTW, where did you get your jeans? I am having the hardest time finding jeans to wear.

NJMom-I love the name Joshua, very cute!

diaper pail-I got one with my first son, the diaper genie, but I returned it without using it. I pretty much just throw out the diapers in the trash outside right away.

30 weeks-Had my appointment today with an actual doctor! YEAH! And I couldn't believe how fast the appointment went, they usually make me wait almost an hour every time in the waiting room but I got in right away. I am measuring 32 cm and the baby hr was in the 140s. The doctor said "Wow, your baby is really active". I have heard this from all of the doctors and also the u/s tech. He said "You are going to have your hands full". Yep, my first son is VERY active and is always on the go and I have a feeling that this one will be even more active if that is even possible. My next appointment is Oct 27.

Hope everyone has a great weekend! :D

Rancid - you look GREAT!

NJMom - Joshua is an awesome name! (My Dh's name, so perhaps I have a bias...)

Diaper pail- another vote for the Diaper Champ. We bought the Diaper Dekor for DS, and it was perfect.... until toddler poops. Then it was ok, but not great. We will use the Dekor we have for the twins (we still have a lot of refills left), and then they will inherit DS's new Diaper Champ once he's potty trained. (Which cannot be too soon, despite his current lack of interest!) The one nice thing about the Dekor is that it will become a regular trash can once it's done with diaper duty, so I don't feel like I wasted the money.

291/2 weeks and 37 lbs (yeah! only 8 more to gain for my target) and still feeling pretty good. It helps that I just got out of the swimming pool...aaaaaahhh, relief. Especially since I apparently pulled a muscle or pinched a nerve right next to my tailbone, so now I get this sharp shooting pain when I sit down, stand up, or turn. I hope it goes away soon.

Also, I have one more full week of full-time work, and then I go to 20 hrs/week. Whoo hoo! So I just need to get through 5 days, then I'll be working mornings. I can't wait to be able to take 2 hour naps with DS every afternoon. Sounds like bliss!

I am hoping these babies stay put for 6 more weeks, or maybe seven. Right now I'm counting in 2 week milestones - they will be ok at 30 weeks, better at 32, fine at 34, and full term for twins at 36....but I don't think I can make it to 38!!!

Still no word on whether I'll need a c-section, but Twin A, my darling Julia, still hasn't moved head down, so I'm getting mentally prepared.

Had my dr appt yesterday and all is seemingly well. Heartbeat was very strong and I'm at 34cm. Still big, a 3 cm growth in 2 weeks. No more u/s until 35 weeks when she can tell my fluid levels and how my placenta is doing and next course of action if I'm still excess fluid.

My feet started swellingThursday-UGH...they were HUGE last night. This morning they are back to normal. BUt my wedding ring is starting to get too tight by the end of the day. I really don't want to take it off.:(

I Got a mani/pedi yesterday and (I'm not kidding) in the course of an hour there were 6 preggos there, including myself. Kind of weird. ONe even told me she was due in 3 days!

Mandersald-Glad you get to come off bedrest. That must feel like prison relief for you!!! :p

RAncid- YOu are probably right. I DO have pregnancy brain and I blame everything on it.

EVERYONE HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!

Rancid-You look great! BTW, where did you get your jeans? I am having the hardest time finding jeans to wear.

Thanks! The jeans are Gap Maternity~they’re the long & lean stretch jeans. I’ve been wearing them since about month 3, and they’ve been falling down the last couple of weeks so I also wear a Bella Band with them and it helps keep them up and in place. I’m happy to hear that your appt went well and all looks good with your active little baby!

AmyE~ Thanks! It’s fantastic to hear that you’re still doing great!! A 20-hr workweek sounds fabulous! I’m keeping my fingers crossed that you make it at least another month with the twins inside!! And hoping that Julia moves into position too.:)

Mobox~ I blame everything on pg brain too. I met a new neighbor of mine last night, and he was sweet enough to introduce himself, say what unit # he and his fiancé had moved into, and offered to take my shopping cart back down to the elevator room for me. After I went back inside I realized that I neither told him MY name nor mentioned anything about my husband. I felt like such a lame-o dumbass. Sorry to hear about the feet swelling, mine have been mildly swelling in the evening but it’s only slightly uncomfortable. I can only imagine how yours must feel.:(

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I forgot to mention something about my most recent NST appt on Friday, it was really interesting (to me). My appt was in the morning this time instead of right after lunch, so I made sure to take some snacks with me as the NST was about an hour after my ob appt. I had a banana, some Whoppers, and a fruit leather because they want the baby to be moving and grooving for the hr monitoring. Didn’t work (go figure!). Baby must have been sound asleep for the first 15 minutes b/c the hr was very steady in the high 130’s then it dropped to the mid 120’s (I mildly panicked at that time b/c I've never seen it dip that low...normally it’s right around 140).
The tech got me a spritzer to drink and a few minutes later he started kicking around and hr shot up to the 170’s. Tech didn’t think anything was “off” but it was the most difference I’ve seen yet between his resting and active hr’s (normal from what I’ve seen being resting=140 and active=160). She took me in for another u/s and fluid still looks great, and his heart and lungs look great. No protein in my urine and all still looks good. I was sitting there thinking "Um...baby? Start moving, please?"
I am feeling great still except for heartburn. I do everything to prevent it, but it still plagues me!
We have our childbirth class tonight - 2 more after tonight. I like them though. My DH has been great about practicing with me during the week too, which is sort of fun. He rubs my belly, and I always enjoy that :D
Wow - it is getting so close for you early December mommas! I'm Dec. 31st, so I've got about an extra month on some of you.
We have our last childbirth class tomorrow night - it has been pretty eye-opening for DH. He doesn't care if I want drugs or not, but he wants to know where he signs up for them! The description of the episiotomy just about put him over the edge. :p
Preggo Brain - I saw a special a few weeks ago on Dateline about the differences between men and women. One of the things they noted was that women's brains shrink 8% during pregnancy (they do go back to normal). I can't tell you the specifics about it but it made me realize - THAT'S why I'm so forgetful! :D
Wow - it is getting so close for you early December mommas! I'm Dec. 31st, so I've got about an extra month on some of you.
Ahhhh, don’t remind me! There once was a time where December seemed so far off into the future, now it’s only a month and a half away! Where did the time go?!?
We have our last childbirth class tomorrow night - it has been pretty eye-opening for DH. He doesn't care if I want drugs or not, but he wants to know where he signs up for them! The description of the episiotomy just about put him over the edge. :p
LOL!! I’ve found that our childbirth classes have been very eye-opening for both of us, b/c we’re both quite unfamiliar with all the goings-on during L&D. It’s been very helpful having him attend them with me, so he can get an idea of what I (and we) will be going thru in the very near future.
Birth Plans? I was wondering if anyone has been working on or come up with a birth plan? Out of curiosity more than anything, because my ob brought up the subject at my appt on Friday. I felt a mild panic b/c I hadn't even thought about a birth plan, and she went on to say that a lot of her patients have very specific, detailed birth plans and if one little thing goes not as according to plan, they get very disappointed and/or feel like failures as a result. I told her that I wasn't planning on making a birth plan, that I wanted to be as flexible as possible so that no matter what happened during L&D, I could take it all in stride. I told her that the only thing that I wasn't open to was an episiotomy unless it was an absolute, 100% dire, necessity in my situation. She liked my open attitude and said that flexibility was definitely something that was good to have during L&D...I just wanted to get some others' thoughts on the idea of having/not having a birth plan though.:)
Rancid: Thanks! As far as the birth plan thing, I am like you in that I want to stay flexible. I am not even deciding whether I am going to have an epidural or not. I am planning on seeing how it goes. I DO think I am going to do a birth plan (especially to say NO episiotomy unless 100% necessary), but keep it simple and flexible. I am also going to try to remember that it is just an ideal, and things may have to change. I actually think I will be OK with that. I am a pretty flexible person, and I really don't have an idea of the "perfect" birth. I probably will have more details on what I do/don't want to happen to the baby after he is born.
I am also interested to see what other people are doing.
Hi ladies! I feel so behind in here. I'm not even going to attempt SO's today because my brain is just not engaged and I can't remember what I read two seconds ago. But I'm so happy to hear everyone's doing well and off bedrest and getting into close to their due dates. I'm at the end of Dec so I feel like I still have an eternity.
Two more birthing classes and DH wants me to look into a baby basics class so he can learn the actual taking care of baby part. I find it so sweet that he's nervous about taking care of the baby and wants to learn everything he can.
Hi everyone! I'm glad things seem to be going well in here. I can't believe how close some of us are. I am the 21st so I feel like part of the late crowd.
birth plan DH and I were talking about that last night. I plan to be flexible but I think we are going to write one to cover a few things. I thnk I might want to use the tub and they said it takes a while to get that ready so I will include that. We'll also say who can be in the room so there's no confusion. Family knows I want to keep it private but, in case they get anxious and ask, I don't want to be in the position where I have to say no during labor or feel like I need to accomodate anyone. The birth center has volunteer doulas and I think we would like one so our birth plan will just have that sort of thing.
My hips are achey. I think I need to get some exercise. I was on the cross country drive and did not get a whole lot of exercise. We got back last Monday but last week I just couldn't pull it together. I think I will go for a walk today.
Ideally I'd do a natural birth with no medication, but I'm totally open to the epidural if I feel the need for one while I'm in the throes of L&D...I also won't be hugely disappointed if I need to get an emergency c/s. Like you, the only thing I'm really dead-set against (unless of course it's an absolute necessity) is the episiotomy. I'd rather tear naturally if it comes to that.
I'm glad to hear that everyone seems to be doing pretty well. I still can't believe how close some of you are getting - I am one of the later ones too.
I've been trying to get all the last minute things that we will need for the baby because I get SO TIRED SO QUICKLY and with DH's surgery, well, I don't know how I will get everything done if I keep putting it off. I had to pick up burp cloths, bottles, bassinett sheets, clothes (we gave all our 1st year clothes away!), etc. I've gotten a lot of that done so I feel pretty good. I also want to get a new bouncy seat and a pack and play (we never had one with the boys). Then we will be pretty set.
Today the playgroup from the Moms club that we are in threw me a little diapers and wipes shower. It was so nice to have a little celebration for this baby since we too are not having any baby showers. It's funny because I would feel really uncomfortable having a baby shower but still feel a little bummed not having any celebration for this baby. So, today was really nice! :)
Amy- I hope you are able to keep those babies baking a few more weeks. Sounds like you are doing great! BTW, I absolutely love the name Julia! That would be my first choice name for a girl. It's such a beautiful name! :)
I feel like I haven’t been here in ages. Belated thanks to all who offered condolences for my grandmother’s passing. I was so glad I was able to travel back for the funeral, and it was good to see family since I won’t be able to get home for the holidays this year.
All is well with me. Getting bigger, baby is very active, I feel fine other than the usual back pain, heartburn, and feeling more tired than normal. I’ve been swamped at work and am trying to get as on top of things as I can before DS arrives. DH is trying to get as much of his work travel taken care of in the next month or so, so he won’t have to travel for the baby’s first couple of months. He will be out of town a lot the next few weeks—it’s been a bit exhausting for me trying to deal with work, a toddler, and two looney dogs all on my own. Next week is my birthday, so I decided that would be a good day to redeem a spa certificate DH gave me a while back. One of the services I’ll be getting is a one-hour prenatal massage—I cannot wait!
I saw my OB last week for the usual uneventful visit. I am measuring right on track and everything looks normal. I'll see him again in a couple of weeks.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pacificbliss I hope the whole insurance issue gets settled with minimal stress to you. What a hassle!
Mandersald I’m so glad that your appointment went well and that some of the restrictions have been lifted. Here’s hoping your little one stays put for a while more!
Marteneym Hope your shower was fun!
Rosa and Rancid Your bellies look great!
NJMom That's sweet about the dipes and wipes shower. I know how you feel--I wouldn'f be comfortable having another shower since we really don't need much, but it still feels like this little guy is getting so little fanfare compared to when I was PG with DD.
Breastpump I have the Ameda Purely Yours and was very happy with it. My LC highly recommended it. In her opinion, it is every bit as effective as the PIS, but costs a bit less.
Diaper Pail We use cloth, so we just use a regular old trash bin, which works just fine. With DD we started out with the diaper champ since I read it worked ok with cloth, but it broke within the first week or two.
Birth Plan I plan to use the same birth plan I wrote up for my l & d with DD. For me, the main focus of my birth plan is to make all of the staff treating me aware of my medical history since I am at increased risk for some serious complications (placental problems that could cause me to bleed out and possibly require transfusions and/or an emergency hysterectomy) during and following labor (although I am less worried about these complications this time around since all went ok with DD). Though my OB is well aware of all these issues, the OB usually only shows up at the tail end of the labor, so I want to be sure all the nurses know my risk-factors and how I wanted them dealt with should they occur. I also have the usual avoid episiotomy, avoid all mention/suggestion of pain meds, want the baby put on my chest immediately after birth, etc. I am flexible to the extent that my main goal is to have a healthy baby and healthy me, but that being said, I do have preferences for how I’d like things to go and want those known. I know some medical staff sort of roll their eyes at birth plans, but I really was happy I had one with DD and felt the nurses respected it and appreciated it. I suppose a lot of that has to do with how things are worded and how you interact with the staff as well as luck of the draw on whether you get good nurses or not. (Our nurse with DD was awesome!)
Hey all!! just checking in to day a quick hello! :)
Had my 30 week check up all was well and for the most part i am doing pretty good except for being soo darn tired alll the time.... One interesting thing that did happen at the OB's office, she told me that her and her and the other OB in the practice would be out of town around the my due date!!!! 12/26/06 :eek: and that they usually induce there patients before they go on holiday So that means that some new OB who is not even in the practice would be delivering DS. I am sooo upset about this i cant even tell you. I have formed a realatinship with the 2 obs and now I may have this other OB who i know nothing about deliver our baby. DH says i should set up a mtg with this other OB and see what i think of him. What if i dont like him? I just wish i new all of this before :cool:
I was not going to do a birth plan until yesturday but i will be doing one now for sure!!!
Rancid Cute belly!
NJMom What an awesome name :)
mobox sorry for the swelling.
birth plan an open mind is what I had when Grace was born and I plan on doing the same with this one I was not dead set or for anything I went it wanted to see how far I could get without pain meds and I lasted until 6 cm, I used the birthing ball, breating techniques but finally just needed the rest so I got the epidural. I plan on taking the same approach with this birth.
Like the rest of you I am very tired these days, I have had m/s for the last 24 weeks and am ready for it just to be over. We were planning on taking Grace to the Pumpkin patch yesterday but we got rained out :( maybe it will work this weekend.
Ok, anyone else starting to loose their plug? I'm in a minor state of panic at this point and I hope to prepare those of you who have yet to experience this if it happens to you. Lose of your plug can start about 8 weeks prior to delivery (my due date is a little more than 8 weeks away but the first u/s put me ahead of that.) TMI alert...What tipped me off was the booger-like nature of the discharge and the slight pink tint. My doctor's office claims that this is "normal." Even though we finished our birth class last night I still haven't really mentally prepared for the inevitable labor...it's hitting me like a ton of bricks today. We have a parenting class tonight so, at least I can relax knowing that we're at a hospital. Tomorrow I have a hemotologist follow-up and Friday I have a Dr. exam. I'm sort of freaking b/c my DH is heading to Spain next week for a few days but, I'm sure everything will be ok once I settle myself down. Are we really this close???
I will come back for SO later...
fms: Wow - already losing your plug!? I had no idea it could happen so early. I have 6.5 weeks to go, and have no sign of losing it yet. Have you noticed your belly dropping down yet? Mine is still quite high, so I suspect he is not coming for a while.
************************************************** *****
I go for my third u/s tomorrow to check on the baby and see whether my palcenta has moved up. If not, they will be scheduling a C-section, most likely. I am so excited to see him again and get some pictures!
Carissa~ Wow, sorry to hear about your continued m/s! Isn't there something your doctor can prescribe you for relief??
Janu~ That really stinks that your docs are going out of town in late Dec! Are they going to let you come in and at least meet this other doctor who may quite possibly be delivering your baby??
Teresita~ Glad to hear that all is going well, save for the backaches and tiredness. Ah the joys of the third trimester, eh?
NJMom~ Aw, that's so sweet of the moms to throw you a little shower!! And you know those diapers and wipes will definitely be coming in very handy in the next couple months. ;)
Fms~ Wow, I can't believe you're already losing your mp. I haven't seen any discharge that looks out of the ordinary, still the whitish-clearish stuff. Boy, we are getting close aren't we?!
I just got back from my most recent NST and everything still looks good. During the u/s the tech mentioned that not only is this little guy still head-down but now he's even lower down in my pelvis than he was last week. No idea what that means as far as progession, but it sounds to me like he's getting into an escape position. :p :D My ob confirmed on Friday that he is indeed head-down, I'm wondering if he's gonna stay that way or if it's possible that he'll move positions (which I hope he doesn't).
Rosa~ Yay for your u/s tomorrow! Even though I've been getting one every week, it's not the typical u/s like one would imagine, they're just checking the fluid around the baby. The most I've gotten to see at the fetal diagnostics lab was the heart beating, and a hand for like 3 seconds. I would love to see the whole baby again, but the tech is only using the u/s to look at certain things while I'm there.
fms Wow! We have the same due date and you are loosing your plug already?!:eek: In any case, I remember with DD my OB said that for some women losing their plug is a slow, gradual process that can happen over weeks while other women will lose most of it in one fell swoop soon before labor. With DD, I never noticed losing it at all although my doctor said I probably had...I just was likely in the slow and gradual group, so I never noticed it, especially since I tend to have a lot of discharge while PG anyway.
I was wondering whether anyone has been having sharp, stabbing pain in the area that I *think* may be the cervix (it's very low and deep inside). I am going to the OB today, so I am not too worried, but I kept having it last night. It would just be quick and then go away, but it was VERY sharp and startling. Any ideas on what that could be?
Rancid: That stinks that you have not been able to really see the baby more on your u/s. I think they are going to show me everything again because they told me to bring my video back so they can add on to the end. Also, I think it is going to be the same tech and she was awesome last time. She just said "well I'm done, what else do you want to see?". I really hope I get to see his face again, since last time he kept covering it with his hand!
fms Wow! Losing your MP already? That scares me to no end!! I can't believe we're getting close enough we need to be watching out for these signs!! Holy moly!!!
janu Sorry your OBs will be out around your due date. I asked my OB early on if he was planning to be out around my due date because if he was, then I wanted to find someone else and not get attached. Kind of crummy that we all have to think about this since we're due around the holidays.
As for me... I'm starting to get to the uncomfortable stage and I want to just whine about it. But I don't because I still have quite a bit of time left and it's too early to make everyone mad at you. (I'm saving that for the final few days) ;)
I keep having anxiety dreams that DS makes his arrival early... like next couple of weeks early and it's freakin' me out. I feel like we have so much to do and buy. We haven't had any showers yet and I was planning to do my bulk shopping after the showers. Are we really this close?
Rosa I've been getting this too. My guess is that it's the baby putting pressure on (i.e., kicking or punching) near my cervix. I mainly notice it when the baby is active and I also have noticed that I can sometimes tell what he's kicking/punching since I will suddenly feel a sharp pain/pressure on my cervix and then it will stop real fast or I will suddenly feel heavy pressure on my bladder and then it will go right away. I'm curious to hear what your doctor says about it.
rosa I have occasionally had that pain almost throughout the pg. I was told it's a normal part of the process. Just another one of those pg-related aches and pains.
carissa I hope the appt goes well. Sorry about the m/s.
fms It scares me a little that someone in here is losing the mp :eek: I need to get my butt in gear.
sandy my hips have been really sore and I feel like I have been complaining a lot about hip soreness and lack of sleep that makes me tired. Like you, I try to keep it to a minimum so it's not like crying wolf. :)
rancid yay for a baby that's properly prepared to make an escape :D
As for me I'm just tired. I have a conference this week. Tomorrow it starts at 7AM and ends at 8PM. There is a networking dinner form 6-8 and I'm supposed to attend these things but I just don't know if I can make it. Seems counter-productive to try networking if you're tired and grouchy. Next week I have a midwife appt and an u/s to check the position of the placenta.
Rosa~ I don’t really mind it all that much. The tech I’ve had has been really nice, but what she’s really checking on is the fluid around the baby. In the process of checking the fluid on the u/s, sometimes I get to see little snippets of the baby himself, but even the u/s monitor looks different from the first 2 u/s I had~there are all these colors (reds, blues) swarming around and moving everywhere, so it’s hard to see what she’s looking at.:confused:
Stabbing pain~ Like Teresita mentioned, I think it’s the baby hitting against the cervix. My pain feels somewhat like getting a pap smear. Not really painful pain, but a really uncomfortable, twinge-y feeling of pressure in that area. It doesn’t happen often enough to be of concern to me~maybe once or twice a week or so? (and the pain is short-lived, like a few seconds tops)
Sandy~ Sorry to hear you’ve made it to the uncomfortable stage. :( I’ve been there for a couple months now and still have 1.5 left to go. I can only imagine how much more uncomfortable it’s gonna get for us!
Carissa~ Well that’s good at least. Once a day is a lot better than all day long, right? Hope the appt goes well!
Pacificbliss~ Your conference hours are long!! That’s a 13-hour day! Hopefully they’ll give you lots of breaks and maybe you can sneak in a nap if need be. Just reading your post makes me feel tired!:eek:
Hi ladies not much going on here. DH completed the painting of the nursery, it looks wonderful but it really reeks of paint. I have been attempting to air it out for the past three days.
We started to set up the crib last night and wouldn't you know it we are missing majority of the hardware that is needed for the crib. I called this store this a.m. and proceeded to have a melt down. :mad:
The guy on the phone said that their parts manager was on vacation and would get back to me. I went ballistic, I started crying and screaming "How can I bring my baby home with out a crib" The guy on the phone freaked he said, ok ok, calm down you don't have to yell at me. I said, I am not yelling at you I am getting ready to pass out, I am pregnant with a baby coming and no crib for this baby..waaaaaa. The guy was like, I am sorry, I am sorry!
It was like I was possessed. He is currently attempting to located the hardware as we speak.
Stabbing pain- I have been getting this as well. It always catches me off by surprise.
fms - I freaked out when I read about your MP! I am so not ready! :eek:
janu- I have a feeling my doc is going to not being in town for my delivery. She keeps saying I am going to go early, but I can't help thinking that she has a ski trip planned.:p
Rancid: I know it is important for them to check on what they need to see when they do your u/s. I just always want to try to see the baby :) But I guess you will be seeing him in person soon enough!
Kimmer: That's great that the nursery is done being painted! Ours still smells a little, 2 months later!
Sorry to hear about the crib parts, but I would TOTALLY be the same way right now. I go from calm to really worked up in about 1 second flat right now.
Those pains catch me off guard too! I have been getting them every hour or so for the last 2 days! OUCH!
Carissa - I'm sorry to hear about your m/s. I know how hard it can be just dealing with m/s but when you have a toddler to take care of, it's REALLY hard. My boys are 20 months old so I had to deal with this during the first 15/16 weeks but luckily I am on Zofran and have been getting sick 1x per week or so now. I can't imagine feeling sick and throwing up daily for all this time. I really hope you feel better soon. At least we are getting very close now. Hang in there. BTW, I think the name Jonah is sooooo cute, I love it.
I had an OB appointment yesterday and another u/s to check on the placenta. Everything looked great! My placenta moved up, so I will not need a C-section. They checked the umbilical cord to be sure that the pressure was right (I guess it starts to drop as the placenta dies). Anyway, that looked good too.
We got to see tons of great shots of the baby too! I have it all on video and got some pictures. He is head down, so that's good. You could see that he already has chubby little cheeks! The tech kept saying "Look! that's so cute!" It's nice that she obviously enjoys her job so much :) She was also very impressed that he already has hair :) So I know he won't be bald! He weighs almost exactly 5 pounds, which is just right. He also had his little fingers up to his mouth and was opening and shutting his mouth a lot, which was very cute.
I asked about the pain in the cervix, and the doctor said to just rest when that happens. She says he is just hitting the cervix, probably because he is moving lower in my pelvis to get into position.
At my next appointment on November 1 they will be starting to check my cervix for dilation! I can't believe we are already at that point!
After the appointment, my DH and I went Christmas shopping for the baby. I want all of my shopping done by Thanksgiving, since I will probably be having a baby shortly after that. It's fun shopping for a baby, even if he is not even here yet!
Delaney: Your belly looks great! I keep thinking the same thing about how low it feels. How can it be any lower? My belly already sits in my lap when I sit down :p
I'm following along, just not posting much - it sounds like everyone is doing so well despite the aches and pains of the final stretch! My belly is really low too, so I'm not exactly sure where the baby will "Drop" to. Any further down and he'll be at my knees! It also feels like the kidlet is trying to poke straight out of my stomach area sometimes, my sides ache as they try to hold him back!
Rosa we're trying to get holiday shopping done before Thanksgiving as well - I've already started poking around my daughter's head for ideas of what she is going to want. It's hard though... she changes her mind every other day. It will be nice to have everything purchased and wrapped before the tree is even up (that's the goal anyway), I hate fighting the holiday crowds at the stores even when I'm not carrying a giant belly and chasing a preschooler!
Carissa I'm so sorry to hear about the m/s - chasing a toddler around while feeling like that is just awful. Hopefully your 17 month old is being gentler on you these days :)
Kimmer I can relate to the emotional mess too - the other day I was trying to fight through one of those automated telephone systems to speak to an actual person and when I finally got through to someone they told me they couldn't do anything (which we found out later wasn't true) and it caused a complete breakdown.
Everything here is going well, had my 30 week checkup yesterday and all is progressing nicely. I'm in the "meet the other doctors" stage so it is a little wierd having to retell everyone I meet the vitals (where do you work? what do you do? and your husband? what brought you to this area?). My next appointment is in 2 weeks (11/3). I took my 1 hour glucose about a month ago and they never told me what the result was... so I guess I'm going to assume that no news is good news (especially after failing them the last pregnancy that would be very good news indeed).
I'm going to do an abbreviated SO here...cute bellies, I'm so sorry to hear of those who are having aches, pains, m/s, bedrest, tiredness, etc. (crossing my fingers that the good health fairy will sprinkle some relief on all!!!)
My hemotolgist appointment was yesterday and as of right now, my platelets have seemed to tapered off. If they don't go down too much more I can have an epidural. I'm still mentally preparing to not have one and then will be pleasantly surprised if I can get it. My regular OB appointment is tomorrow. I'm dreading the scale as I seem to be in the 4-5 pound range of gain since my last visit. I don't think think I'll hit 40 pounds total gain but, will be close.
I had a fun visit with a friend who is due in late November last weekend. We compared items purchased/things we've learned/etc. as we will both be first timers. We bought most of the same exact items and I got a chance to check out her Skip Hop diaper bag. I'm definetly ordering the Expo version. I took some photos of her while I was at her place. She was my guinea-pig for an afternoon. It was so nice to have total creative freedom and she was willing to try anything. Her preview is here (www.fmlphotodesign.com/Marks) I'm meeting up with another girlfriend who is due at the end of November as well this weekend to do photos. She has an adorable little girl so, the photos are going to be totally different. I was never really that into portraits before but now, I can see the value and am really loving shooting them.
We're nesting big time. I stopped at Target last night and bought a bunch of stuff that we're going to need for the birth and right after. I got some poise undergarments (similar to depends to be used after birth) and some absorbant pads (in case of water breakage) for our bed on the recommendation of other new moms. Our crib, dresser, stroller and car seat are due to arrive next week. I will take a photo of the nursery once we have those items. I'm having serious decision-making issues when it comes to nursery items...I'm buying and returning like a mad woman.
I'll check in tomorrow with photos and an update from my Doctor visit.
Thanks for your sympathies on my m/s I told Dh we are going to be extremely careful after Jonah is born I don't think I want to join the 3 under 3 club :) My appointment yesterday went well everything is growing like it should. I am measuring 2 weeks ahead now but only gained a pound in the past 2 weeks that is good since I gained 7lbs in 4 weeks last month. I am hoping the nesting kicks in here my house could use a good cleaning.
Delaney~ Wow! You’re starting to lose your plug too, huh? Your belly looks fantastic!! Even though my little guy is pretty low down in my pelvis (well, his head is at least) I still seem to be carrying a bit high so I know there’s plenty of room for it to get even lower.
Rosa~ Yay for the placenta moving up! That’s awesome that you got to see your baby boy’s chubby little cheeks, awwww! I’m jealous! Next time I go in for an u/s at my NST if I get the nice tech, I’m gonna ask her if we can just peek at the face if it’s possible. Wow, they’re already gonna be checking for dilation? Makes me wonder if my doc is going to be doing that at my next appt in a week…hmmm.
It also feels like the kidlet is trying to poke straight out of my stomach area sometimes, my sides ache as they try to hold him back!
Mine has been doing that a lot lately too! It gets really uncomfortable sometimes, like bordering on being quite painful. Especially when he’s ‘bulging’ out on one side or the other of my belly. I try to sort of push back in to a more comfortable position for me. Yay for a good checkup and progression.
Fms~ Hopefully your platelets will stay right about where they are now, for your sake. That’s great you’re getting everything together for the baby, and how neat to be able to go through pregnancy with a good friend of yours at the same time. I can’t wait to see your nursery photos!
Carissa~ LOL at the “3 under 3 club”. Yeah, your body definitely needs a break from being pregnant and suffering the horrible side effects of m/s.:)
Well, DH has done it. He's finished painting the nursery! He put the final coats of paint on last night and I believe got the trim painted as well. I took a peek at it this morning before I left for work, and he even got the crib unpacked and assembled, brought up the toy chest and glider & ottoman and set them up. The colors are looking really good together, I must say! I'm horrible at coming to decisions on paint colors, so that's good news.
The top part of the wall is a green-yellow, the bottom part a blue (painted w/waves), the furniture is black, and the glider/ottoman sage green. I'll take a picture this afternoon when I get home. I need to recruit my bro and one of his demolition buddies to bring up the (very heavy) dressers and get them in there sometime this week.
Oh yeah, and after our 3/5 childbirth class last night, I'm seriously considering asking my doc at my next appt about scheduling a c-section. The live birth footage (not to mention all the ones of women in labor) have me completely and utterly terrified.
Sorry no SO's - I have been reading along though.
I have had a rough 24 hours. I have Bad News, Good News and Bad News. The first Bad News is, I got in a car wreck last night on the freeway coming home. The cars in front of me slammed on their brakes and I had to swerve to avoid them - well, the 18-wheeler in the other lane couldn't stop in time to avoid me and swiped my passenger side back door and bumper. :( Luckily, no one was going too fast and neither of us was hurt. The 18-wheeler guy was actually very nice about the whole thing - his truck sustained very little damage - it just scuffed his bumper. Anyway, after getting the police there and giving me my ticket, :( I called the on-call nurse for my doctor's office who told me I would need to go to the hospital to have the baby monitored.
So, we went to Labor & Delivery (they tried to make me go to the Emergency room, but I refused - the on-call nurse told me to go to Labor & Delivery!) They hooked me up to a fetal monitor and did an hour long stress-test. It turns out I was having contractions 2 minutes apart, but I wasn't feeling them because they were so mild. Luckily those stopped after awhile and the baby's heartrate was great and she was moving around like crazy. I was able to go home after the hour was up! Good News!
The other Bad News was that I had my 3 hr. GTT this morning which I failed. I passed the fasting portion of the test, no problem, but after I drank that glucose drink my numbers were way too high. I am now going to be meeting with the dietician to see how to move forward but I have already turned in my Rxs for my blood monitor, testing strips, etc. This news really upset me and I had a major break down in the car with my mom on the way home. I've tried really hard to watch what I eat during this pregancy, haven't gained too much weight and I feel like I'm just failing this poor baby. Both my mom and DH have said that we'll get through this and that it's not that big of a deal, but it just feels really huge right now. Darn those hormones!
I'm just hoping that perhaps the end of this pregnancy can go normally since it seems like there's been some complication going on every other step of the way.
katmg: I am so sorry to hear about the car accident. That must have been so scary, and it is great to hear that everything is fine with the baby.
As far as the GTT - sorry to hear about that too. I can TOTALLY understand being hard on yourself - I'm like that too. But isn't that something that can happen even if you are doing everything right? I am not too knowledgeable about it, but aren't some people just more prone to having problems with it? Try not to beat yourself up (I know - easier said than done) and know that you are doing your best. Your baby is lucky to have someone who cares so much - really.
I hope the next 2 months or so go smoothly for you! Take care.
Yeah, it has to do with one's body just not being able to process glucose very well, which the person really can't help other than by monitoring and avoiding/limiting the foods that cause blood sugar to spike. :(
Rosa - Ok, your belly is SO small you lucky girl!!!
Kat - So sorry about your accident and the GD, but at least you know you'll be eating very healthy from here to the delivery.
FMS - What is the name of the absorbant pads? I need to get some of those. I hear they save your mattress and ours is BRAND new so I don't want any water or blood to get on it.
***************
My next appt is on 10/27 and then again on 11/13 (this is where I get my final u/s to check for all signs including fluid levels).
Did I mention that we had our first shower last weekend. It was so much fun, my SIL hosted a co-ed shower. Our friends were so incredibly generous. It was amazing. I can't wait to finish painting the nursery so that we can start putting stuff away. I'm such an organizer!
Well, this is TMI but I have no one else to commiserate with. To start, I have been very lucky to not get constipation at all during this pregnancy. I'm very anemic though and take iron pills (which causes constipation) but I also eat a LOT of fiber daily to counteract that. So far, so good. Until Monday. I got my first HEMORRHOID! Oh my friends, if you haven't experienced this--I hope you don't. I'm in serious pain most of the time. I called my mom to whine and she was sympathetic (go mom!) and told me to call the doc right away to find out the remedies I could use. Preperation H, Tucks Pads, Sitz bath. I started with the Prep cooling ointment and will use the pads here at work. And I also bought some of those lovely wet wipes to use in the bathroom instead of toilet tissue.
Anyway, just a random vent. I REALLY hope they don't get worse during L&D because I hear it can be horrible!!!
Labor Plan-hadn't really thought of this before but I think I will do some research and at least write an ouline. I"m also a "go with the flow" kind of person but I have to agree with those of you who don't want an episiotomy and would rather just tear naturally. Me three!
Kat - Wow I am so happy you and the baby are fine, that accident sounds so scary. Don't beat yourself up you are doing the best for your baby and you have been doing a great job, some things we can not control.
FMS- You must disclose those pads and where you got them, I love my bed too much. :)
Labor Plan - I have no idea what it write up but I defiantly don't want an episiotomy
I hate Comcast as I just lost a long post. My child is already versed in various obsenities that Mommy utters when deal with the cable modem and driving...
I'm going to be late for my appointment so, here's my incontience pad drive-by...
Target sells Affirm brand pictured below in orange.
Drugstore.com sells Prevail brand.
I think they are under $8.00 for 10 pads. We bought a new matress this spring as well and I'm double-bagging ;) The pads are in addition to the water-proof mattress pad with a warranty.
I'm joining the good news/bad news club with katmg. I found out yesterday that I failed my 3 hour GTT as well but it didn't take me by surprise. For the past couple of months, I've had major issues with carbs and sugars making me feel extremely tired and semi-comatose. I just figured out the carb/sugar connection a couple of weeks ago. I had been blaming the sleepiness and light headed feelings on m/s which I still battle on occasion though nowhere near as bad as it was the first two trimesters. I found that if I avoid carbs and sugars in the mornings and have only a moderate amount in the afternoon and evenings, I'm fine. I've discovered that Luna bars and Balance bars are great for mornings. They are packed with protein, vitamins and minerals but are quite low in carbs and sugar.
The good news is that I amazed myself by passing a licensing exam for my job. I had been having trouble studying and was just exhausted all the time but buckled down, sucked it up and PASSED the exam when there are guys in my industry (who are NOT 8 months pregnant might I add!) that have failed it repeatedly. Excuse me while I toot my own horn and give myself a big ole pat on the back! :D
Other than that, I'm hanging in. Getting HUGE but doing well.
Hey, I want to see shower pictures! Everyone keeps talking about their showers but except for Rancid, I don't think anyone has indulged us with photos (and I'm not counting fms's bathroom photo which showed literally a "SHOWER"! I know that someone is going to call me on that. :p )
Happy Friday ladies!!!! Today is my 4 year wedding anniversary so we are going away tonight to a resort close by on the lake, CAN'T WAIT!!
Rancid-That is so great that the painting is done, hope you can post some pictures, I would love to see it. Oh, I also noticed your city, my BIL and his family used to live in Rossmoor, is that close by?
Oh, I had an emergency c/s with my first son, it was no fun but it saved my little guy's life so it was worth it.
Carissa-Sorry about the m/s. Not much longer left.
Sophia- Congrats on passing the licensing exam and kicking the other guy's butts! ;) I work in the financial field and there are a few very difficult tests we have to take and it is always nice to beat the guys especially when you are very pregnant!
Delaney-You look great!
Rosa- Great news on the placenta moving! I also want to get X-mas shopping done soon mainly before the ice and snow come because I don't want to have to walk on the ice 9 months pregnant, no fun and dangerous. I am thinking everyone might just get gift cards this year from us, that is all I have energy to buy.
Fms-Great pictures! You did an amazing job!
Kat-So sorry to hear about the car wreck! I am so glad that you and the baby are well! Take care.
Birth plan-No plan here, you just don't know what is going to happen. With my first son I ended up with a very scary emergency c/s, I couldn't imagine I would ever have to have a c/s. Also, my doctor was out of town and the backup doctor was too busy so the doctor that performed my surgery was a stranger and to this day, I have no idea what his name was or what he looked like, I met him for a second and then he did the surgery and was gone. So much for a birth plan.
Shopping-I can't stop buying cute little outfits for this baby! The other day I bought a ton of X-mas outfits and I have no idea if the baby will be here by X-mas or not!
My next appointment is Oct 27
Hey tinkerbelljenny-Happy anniversary! Enjoy your weekend away. I am quite envious of your celebratory jaunt.
I didn't realize that you worked in the financial field. I work in the securities industry and it was the Series 55 that I passed. Are you familiar with it? I also have a Series 4, 7, 9 & 10 but I got all of those when I was single, childless and most definitely not pregnant!
Tinkerbelljenny~ Happy Anniversary!! Have a great time at your lake getaway!! How fun!:D Rossmoor is right next to Los Al…it’s a little unincorporated county area that shares a zip code with us. I think the median home price in Rossmoor is $1.2m or something close to that. Very nice homes.
I’ve been seriously thinking about this whole c-section vs vaginal birth thing and doing a lot of research and it really sounds like I should avoid getting a c/s unless it’s a medical necessity, as it is major surgery. I think I was panicking a bit after the childbirth class videos, and it didn’t help that I went straight home and to bed so I could dream horrible dreams about what I’d seen. I’ll be brave and stick it out and try to have a natural birth should there not be any complications. ;)
34 week belly shots from last night....
Not too much of a difference from last week though. I've only gained 2-3lbs in the last month to month and a half, and I swear it's all in my behind. That might explain why my pants keep trying to fall down even though I've enlisted a Bella Band to help keep them up.:eek:
Jenny--Enjoy your trip!
I thought that this was interesting enough to post for ya'll...
Labor and Delivery
I wish I had known ...
"Not to let anyone else's opinions diminish my belief in what I'd decided was right for me. Remember that this is your childbirth experience, your body, and your family." — Kristin
"That just because my mom, sister, and aunts had easy vaginal deliveries, it didn't mean that I would. I went in thinking it would be quick and fairly easy and ended up with a 24-hour labor and a c-section, but one beautiful daughter!" — Amanda
"That better childbirth classes existed that aren't affiliated with the hospital. I also wish I had known to bring more food to eat after delivery. I was starving!" — Anonymous
"About the hospital's policy on what happens if you have a c-section and can't nurse your baby right away. I had one, and wasn't allowed to feed my daughter while in the recovery room. Next time, I'll know to specify." — Anonymous
"That delivery can go well. I had myself all worked up for a long, drawn-out painful birth experience. My labor and delivery went off without a hitch and thanks to the epidural, were relatively pain-free. If I had known that it was possible to enjoy giving birth, I would have done it years ago!" — Anonymous
"That the recovery period would be more painful than childbirth. I couldn't sit for about four days due to swelling and pain. I wish I had known to ask for a pain medication prescription while I was still at the hospital." — Anonymous
"About the amount of pain associated with back labor. I knew that labor in general would be tough and that back labor was a possibility, but I was simply told that it was like bad back cramps. For me, it felt like someone was drilling into my back with a jackhammer while, at the same time, using a world kickboxing champion to beat on me from the inside." — Anonymous
"About labor down: No one warned me of this one. After sleeping through active labor, I woke up and they checked me. I was 10 centimeters dilated! It only took about 31½ hours to get there. Then I mentally prepared myself to start pushing. The doctor said that the baby was still too high and I had to labor down for a while. That was probably the most uncomfortable 45 minutes of my life. I wasn't allowed to push and I just had to lie there and allow the contractions to move the baby down into the canal more." — Anonymous
"How great it would be to watch the baby be born with a mirror! A doctor brought one in for me. I was able to see that little face come out and look at it for the first time. Those are memories that a lot of people just don't have and I will never forget." — Anonymous
"That standing up the first time is weird and hard! My legs started to buckle under me. Luckily the nurse was right there." — Erika
"Not to be embarrassed about anything that happens in the labor room. I pooped on the floor because of my horrible back labor, but not one nurse even blinked an eye. God bless them!" — Stacy
"That in the hospital they may give you the opportunity to apply for a social security number for your newborn — do it! You need the number to get some of the other necessary paperwork done later. Also, request two copies of the birth certificate so that you can keep them in different places." — Anonymous
"How difficult natural birth would be. I just always assumed I would get an epidural but unfortunately, I was too far dilated when I got to the hospital. Labor, though only an hour, was the worst pain I've ever felt in my life." — Pamela
"How important it is to know all about my insurance policies and rules regarding doctor visits, labor, and delivery charges. What happens if your insurance changes in the middle of the pregnancy and you have to switch hospitals? What a scary mess to deal with on top of those hormones!" — Coral
"To have a birth plan detailing medications. I want an epidural, but I know now that I don't want anything like Demerol because of the effect it had on me during my first daughter's birth. Also, remember to have a copy of the birth plan with you." — Anonymous
Mobox~ Thanks for posting that! It was very interesting to read.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

We actually got A LOT accomplished over the weekend! DH left work on Saturday "sick"~he had a really bad sore throat. After getting in to a walk-in medical center to be seen by a doc and get a prescription (it's not strep, so that's good) he felt well enough to announce that we should go to BRU and get the rest of the baby stuff we needed.

We got just about everything, excepting a few minor things (like a cover for the changing table pad, an activity mat, and a few BF pump accessories that I had to order online).

Then he called up my bro and he and his wife came over a few hours later to help move the dressers from the garage into the nursery. We spend the evening continuing to get the nursery ready, as well as putting a few things together (like the baby papasan chair, etc.).

Without further ado, here's how our nursery is looking (it's at least 90% done-just needs minor finishing touches/organization):

Lightswitch we found that goes with our bedding set

Last night I started going thru a couple bags of clothes we've received as gifts and have one large laundry basked overflowing with stuff that I cut tags off that now needs to be washed. There's still a large gift bag packed with blankets and clothes that I haven't even gotten to yet~when I say large, I mean the bag itself is at least 3 feet tall. One of those HUGE ones that can fit a ton of stuff.

My goal this week is to get all the clothes washed and put away and take stock to see if we need anything else~ like booties for instance. Also plan on having my hospital bag 75% packed by tomorrow, as on Saturday my BFF is accompanying me to get the remaining items (nursing bra, maxi pads, etc) that I don't have yet for both the hospital bag and for baby.
