And we're open! In order to keep our thread updated, please re-submit if you are joining, but you don't need to repost your stats if you've already done so in a previous october 05 thread. Also, if you were not previously a mod, but would like to become one, just pm october05mommies or a mod. Also if you were previously a mod, but no longer would like to be one, you can delete your info from the front page. I left all the info the same as it was on the other thread, but please double check to make sure you're information is correct and free of typos. I didn't include the WBV stats this time because it seemed that both the mods and posters had a hard time keeping up with it, but if somebody would really like to have those back, just say so and we can include it.

Still don't know how to do red but I have an update, my age is 35 now. Thanks for the new thread Kanga.
My child is a dancing fool. DH is showing him videos on the computer and he loves it. He will just stand and bop his head and dance while holding on to DH's knee. His favorite is Curious Wine by Fountains of Wayne. No matter what he is doing he will come speed crawling if he hears the beginning of it. And with this one he is trying to imitate all the motions the little girl in the video is doing, it is so funny.
Last night DH and I were talking about autism and some of the symptoms to look for. I was saying how I didn't think that was anything we had to worry about with Alex and just as if he understood what we were saying Alex did his whole little "trick pony" routine as if he wanted to make sure we didn't think he was autistic. First he clapped his hands, then he waved at each of us, then he raised both his hands up in the air like we do for "how big is Alex?", and finally he crawled up to me to give me a high five. We were cracking up all night about this one. And Alex was very pleased with the reaction he got.
We seem to be lagging a little behind in the talking department. Alex is constantly babbling but he is not really calling anything by name other than food which is mamamamamam. I do know that kids who are raised bilingual are sometimes late talkers so I think that might be why.

yeah I guess while we're updating ages I'm now 34 and DH is 37.
Hey question for anyone. DH and I are about 85% decided we will TTC3 however I want to wait a bit longer between 2 and 3 than we did between 1 and 2 but don't want to wait a LOT longer due to my age. I was flipping through the Mayo book last night and found a chart on how the risk of birth defects/downs changes per age of the mother and the numbers scared the living daylights out of me for say 34 vs 35 vs 36 and how much the odds changed for each year which is the age range I'd be considering. Anyone know if that chart is accurate or there are new numbers out there?

Age - No clue, but I'm totally freaked out now. Thanks, Heather:p My dr wants me to TTC when Hank is 18 months. Seems like that will be here in no time.

sorry JH! Didn't mean to freak anyone out. They aren't bad odds--they just drop quite a bit with each year vs say 20, 21, 22.... But I tend to freak out about everything so well it freaked me out. :)

Remember how we didn't know if Hank would have Downs or not when he was born, since we declined the amnio but had the indicators? Just paranoid we may not cheat the odds next time. I'll be 34 in October, so I don't want to take on any more risk.

Ugh! Just when I was thinking DD was getting better. I just got a call from daycare saying she has a rash from head to toe. I called the dr. and they think it might be a reaction to the amoxicilin and told us to stop it to her and see if the rash goes away. If not, we are supposed to take her in on Friday.
I am wondering if it could be Roseola though. She had a high fever all weekend. The last time she had a fever was Monday afternoon. She seems to feel fine. Daycare said she was acting fine and didn't seem like anything was bothering her. I guess we will just stop the meds and see what happens.

cj: thank you! I'll try that next time
hmbay and jh124: I don't know if that chart is right but I do want to tell you that in most European Countries women don't get married as early as they do here and often don't have children until they are in their thirties. Pretty much all my high school friends are just now having kids just like me and I don't think that there is a significantly higher birth rate of infants with down syndrome or birth defects that are related to the age of the mother in Germany than there are here. So I wouldn't freak out over that too much.
DH's age is now 28, thanks!
I was only 27 at the time and had one very high marker for Downs. It is my understanding that it is based on a complicated mathematical formula and one factor may skew it. I know they did double check during the 20 week u/s (the neck fold) which was fine. Because I am "younger" the ob said she didn't recommend an amino anyway.

...I am wondering if it could be Roseola though. She had a high fever all weekend. The last time she had a fever was Monday afternoon. She seems to feel fine. Daycare said she was acting fine and didn't seem like anything was bothering her. I guess we will just stop the meds and see what happens.
We found out that CJ had this... rash is gone now though. only lasted about 3-4 days Hope she feels better!!
TTC #2 - we'll be starting next october... with hopes of being preggo by January :) After that, i'm having the oven unplugged...

Thanks for starting the new thread, Kanga!
Lily's latest trick is giving kisses. We can tell her to kiss something, and she'll go in for the kiss with her mouth wide open & tongue sticking out. :p It's pretty funny.
TTC #2: I'm 28 and we'd like to have our kids about two years apart. So we'll start TTC in October/November! :D I'm excited and ready. We may end up with two just under two, which is fine. With the exception of a cystic fibrosis test before we started TTC, we waived all genetic testing when I was pregnant with Lily. We were offered both a first trimester combined screen (nuchal tranluscency) and the second trimester quad screen. That was the right decision for us considering we didn't have many risk factors and were freaked out by the potential for a false positive screen.

Anyway, Seth is walking about 75% of the time now and cna walk across the livingroom! I can't wait to buy him his first shoes, but we're waiting till he's walking more beofre we spend the $$ since he doen'st NEED them now. Weaning's going pretty good and his alleriges are eh.... Question:
I'm on another boards of October moms and we are doing a bday gift exchange. Anyone interested in doing one here? What we did was 1 person is in charge and anyone who wanted to do it PMed her. She paired us up and it's sort of liek a secret santa type thing. She PMed us back the name and address of who we got and we have a price limit of $15 including shipping. Since we have bdays from Aug - Nov (preemies - late inductions) we picked mid Oct to send the gifts.

Lisa - Hope Jackie is doing ok now - I can so see Daytona swallowing something like that. BTW - seth and jackie have the most beautiful eyes - I'm jealous. A friend of mine's dd has that same color and I always compliment her on it.
Birthday exchange - I think it's a great idea.
Things have been pretty much the same around here. We're still trying to figure out D's sleep problems but it's about 60% better. We took the mattress pad off her mattress and that seemed to help A LOT. She is still up 1-2x a night and staying up for at least an hour for one or both times though. Now we're back to trying the pnp. She woke up at 2:30, which is 2-3 hours later than normal and I got her to sleep twice pretty quickly but she'd wake up and not roll over to her stomach to go back to sleep when she felt us lowering her in. After 2x and the 3rd time her not being easy to get back down I handed her off to dh and he put her in her crib with no problems and then she slept til 6. So I'm thinking maybe starting the night in the pnp and then moving her to the crib if she won't go back down. Hopefully we'll get this figured out sooner rather than later.

So I'm wearing a pair of my VS sweats with PINK written across the tush. we just had a family tickle fest on the floor and Scott asked Jackie what letters were on my tush. So she points to each one and says the letter. Scott asks her what it says and she runs her finger arcoss all the letters as if she's reading, and says w/o hesitation, "TUSHY!"
~~~~~~~~
For those of you with sleep problems, my ped gave me the name & # of a behaviouralist who I called last week. She said that when Seth gets up at night, it's not that he needs to eat, he wants to nurse out of habit and for comfort. What she said we need to do, and Scott needs to be 100% with this (and he is) is to pick 1 nighttime waking at a time. That same waking every night, Scott has to go to him when he wakes. Scott ahs to do whatever it takes, however long it takes to get Seth back to sleep w/o eating anything at all. She said the first few nights are the worst (it can take hours sometimes so she suggested trying it ona weekend first), but it gets better. If Seth sees or hears me or if I hold him, he'll want to nurse and so will I. She said this method takes 1-2 weeks tops. Once he no longer wakes up for that waking, we can do the same method on the other(s) but usually they do much easier for the other waking(s) since they went through it already.
We're very busy the next few weekends so we have to wait about another 3 weeks before starting. Until then I jsut nurse him when he wakes so we can all go back to sleep (when I say all, I mean me and Seth sicne Scott sleeps through it!).
She said work on nights only and the naps will generally follow on thier own.
Lisa- Your kids look so big!!
I haven't been here in like 2 months, I feel so out of the loop. :( Kiley turned 10 months today and she is soooo busy, she is always on the move. I think she will be taking her first steps any day now. She is still not saying any real words though. She talks all day long but no words in connection with anything. She is obsessed with waving and clapping. She waves at random people wherever we go. I'm feeling so sad about my baby turning one in two months. Anyone else?? Her party is going to be pink and orange polka dots with some pumpkins thrown in there. Here is a recent picture of my big girl.
Not sure how many more people are going to sign up for the bday exchange, but if there ends up being an odd number, instead of buying in pairs - ex: I buy for eliezrah and she buys for me, we could do it so that you buy for one person and receive from a different one - as the list stands now - eliezrah buys for cartersmommy, cartersmommy buys for me, etc and then lysh79 buys for eliezrah. Did that all make sense? Sorry it's been a long day I'm tired (read: not with it:rolleyes: )
Hi everyone,
I haven't been in here for a few weeks. Two weeks ago we were vacationing in Costa Rica and last week I started my new job. I now do planning for Maternity and Women's Plus sizes for Old Navy.
Moderators: here's a more recent photo of DS
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a250/surftraitor/July27004.jpg
DS has been doing great. He's becoming quite a ham with people he doesn't know. He loves to show off.:rolleyes: We had a big moment last week when he FINALLY cut his first tooth. I know there's only a few of us left with toothless kids. We're still not very interested in crawling. He seems to get on his knees to jump forward. He'd rather stand than crawl these days. Oh well. In the eating department, we're about 75% table food as DS just has no patience for babyfood anymore. Here's what we've given him thus far...
avocado
mashed potatoes
turkey
chicken
hamburger
peas
spaghetti
grilled cheese
thinned peanut butter--he tried this on toast yesterday and no allergic reaction!!:cool:
I finally starting thinking about DS' first birthday party. We're doing a monkey/jungle theme and I found the perfect invites on Ebay. I think I'll also purchase some thank yous and candy wrappers as well. Our guest list is about 30 people. We're planning it for 3:00, so I think I'll just have heavy hors d'vorois instead of a meal.
Count DS in for the gift exchange!
kai stood on his own twice tonight! so exciting!
surftraitor- be careful with the peanut butter, they usually don't get the allergic reaction until the second or third time
kai wants nothing to do with babyfood either, only what mommy, daddy, and sister are eating
surf - yay for teeth! Carter just cut his first two bottom teeth less than 2 wks ago at just about 11 mos and is now popping the two top ones. I guess not getting teeth for so long means getting them all at once now?
cartersmommy - super cute Halloween outfit! Someone told us a few wks ago that Carter should be Charlie Brown w/ his super round bald head and chubby cheeks so we're hooked on that idea now and all on the hunt for a Charlie Brown shirt! Anyone seen one?
Going back a pg.....
TTC #2 - I'm pretty sure we've decided to bite the bullet and go for #2 in Nov/Dec (dianecourt - maybe we'll be pg together again?!) If I don't get pg one of those mos we'll wait until May/June next year. I'm planning a trip to Poland w/ my dad in April and either want to be in the 2nd tri or not pg. I also have 2 other out of town conferences that same month so it'll be a grueling few wks. I couldn't handle that if I was as sick as I was w/ Carter in the 1st tri or as beat as I was in the 3rd. So, we'll see! Regardless, I'm pretty sure we'll call it good after the 2nd one.
Well, besides cutting more teeth, Carter is SO MUCH FUN right now! So much more of his personality is coming out and he is so funny (takes after his daddy!). He laughs SO LOUD and has now decided that screaming when he's happy vs. laughing is a lot of fun. :rolleyes:
He's taking 3-4 steps at a time and it's usually when he's not paying attention to what he's doing. He is so darn determined and confident about everything he does but for some reason, he's very cautious about walking...like he doesn't believe he can do it or something. So if he 'knows' he's walking, you can see his face go 'woah, I can't do this' and he'll sit down. I always make him get back up and try again! :p But when he takes steps on his own, he's obviously very strong and able to do it. It's funny.
He isn't verbal yet really, besides bababababa or mamamama but he's learning a little sign language which will help eventually!
Alrighty, going to join my hubby for some wine and a movie. I had a very.long.weekend and day today so feel like I need to turn my brain off for awhile before bed. Have a great night!
Amanda, PMed you!!! Are we going to try to get the gifts out in time for each babies bday or all at the same time? Should we also say clothing size or put a 3 item wish list or something like that to give the person ideas? Thanks for organizing this!!
Teeth: Seth nowhas 6!!! He cut 4 within about 2 1/2 weeks!! :eek: :eek: Poor baby, I hope his mouth gives him a break SOON!!!
Walking: Seth is walking about 75% of the time now and can go pretty far and even change direction! We boguht his first shoes onlnie and cna't wait for them to arrive! We went to Stride Rite and they measured him (pooe Dude's got tiny size 3 1/2 feet) but they were out of the shoe we wanted in his size, so we ordered them online. We went to www.shoebuy.com which carries Stride Rite shoes but at a discount and has no shipping so we saved over $12!!
We're also teething and have been for the last month or so and tehy STILL aren't through. Any day now, but I've said that a lot already:rolleyes:
Amanda - I pm'd you my address, but I haven't gotten one back on who I have....do you need me to send it again?
I'm so jealous of the walkers. We're not standing alone yet. I stand her up sometimes and see if she'll stand alone, but I think she gets too cautious and starts wobbling, so a little ways off for us yet. I'm thinking around her first bday she'll be walking or darn close.
Dh has now been officially "fired" from all things money. I hate to treat him like a kid and give him an allowance, but in all fairness I've told him several times he needs to set a budget (on paper, not in his head:rolleyes: ) and let me know how much to spend on groceries, baby stuff, personal expenses, bday party, etc. He hasn't done that and a couple weeks ago he was going to a major race and I told him we wouldn't have the money upfront, but if he takes a little out each week/month for a couple of months then there will be plenty there. I asked if he did it - "Yup". Well, he didn't. Or if he did he took more money out anyways, advanced money from his paycheck AND through our account into overdraft status. Great. So I changed the online password to our account, took back the dc, gave him $15, and told him he'd better start packing his lunch at least a few days a week, unless he plans on eating off the dollar menu everyday. He won't be happy about it, but I've tried everything else. The good part is though now that he only has so much to spend each week, I suspect there will be money left over for me to actually do stuff with dd during the day. The mall and playground are getting a little old.
The new thread looks nice. :)
Hmm...update on us. Natalie has 6.5 teeth now. She's crawling everywhere...fast. She walks with help, but isn't near walking on her own yet...and that is just fine by me! Nursing is still going really well. No problems...and no plans of quitting any time soon. She's doing really well on solids. We never did any jarred foods, just made our own. She's had avocado, apple, banana, carrots, sweet potato, mashed potato, broccoli (her favorite!), zucchini, squash, yogurt, blueberries, peaches (her least favorite) and Cheerios (or the organic counterpart), chicken, turkey and green beans. I'm sure I'm forgetting some things there. She's pretty much given up the paci, which is nice because now I don't have to mess with weaning her off it. She's said "mama," "dada," "hey nana" (meaning is a mystery) and "Dotchen," which is our dog's name (Gretchen). We are successfully napping in the crib and starting the night in the crib.
Barring a whoopsie, #2 is not planned to make an appearance for awhile. ;)
I am a bit worried b/c I don't think my DS has any "tricks." He just started babbling repetitive sounds (ba ba ba, da da da) but doesn't attribute them to anything. I think daycare has actually helped with his vocal noises, which makes me feel better for having sent him!
He doesn't wave, or call Da Da Da to DH. He crawls and pulls up, but no walking.
He just cut the very teeniest nubbin of a tooth this past weekend.
I know you have to cut preemies a little slack but I am so worried about his development that I tend to obsess a little bit. Anyone else going through a similar stage?
jenjen0713
08-24-2006, 02:51 PM
Kelly's Girl - DS is the same....babbles, but doesn't associate dada with DH (at least that I think). Does the babababa, lalalala, but there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it and defintely doesn't seem to be directed to any one thing. DS still isn't waving...just recently learned how to clap his hands. Learned to crawl a few weeks ago and just now starting to pull up on things. Not even close to walking on standing alone. I have a Parents as Teacher educator come to visit us each month from our local school district (a free program by the way, so you might check with your local school district). Part of her job, is if she starts to see a developmental delay is to identify it early on, so we can work on it. So far, she has said DS is progressing normally. (BTW, DS has no teeth yet. I think he just likes to take his sweet time on things. :p )
{{HUGS}} How early was he again? I went through this with Jackie. She caught up BIG TIME and then some as she got older. Don't be worried (and I know how hard it is) , he doesn't really sound behind to me.
~~~~~~~
Seth's excema never fully went away so I brought him back to the allergist last week. Originally she wanted to wait until he was a year to do blood work since he'd need to go for his 1 year check up anyway, so only prick him once. Since him & I avoiding milk, eggs and beef wasn't working, she decided to send us now (we got an RX for the blood work the pediatrician would need at a year to get that done at the same time). I took him on Tuesday morning and the allergist called me back this morning with some preliminary results:
There's something called IgE, which tests for general allergy antibodies in your system. Normal is anything 53 and under, the smaller the number the better. Seth's is 672!!! =-O Even the doctor seemed surprised at the "astronomical level" that Seth has. She said that an elevated IgE can raise the results of specific test results, but won't give you any false positives. In other words, his test for milk might be showing a bit higher than it really is because of his elevated IgE, but if it shows as an allergy to milk, he really is allergic. The numbers on the specific tests do not correlate with the IgE numbers; i.e. 53 would be very high for a specific test. He actually came out testing positive for some things his skin test was negative for. The doctor had explained to me that there is room for about a 20% margin or error with the skin test on babies.
Here are Seth's results so far:
· Milk: 59.6 VERY high for his age. 85% of children with milk allergies outgrow then. With this number being so high, she feels he has more of a chance of being in the 15% that doesn't. Any and every exposure he gets to milk lowers his chances of ever outgrowing it.
· Egg: 20.7 high for his age
· Peanuts: 9.55 high for his age
· Cashews: 7.25
· Walnuts: normal (too bad he's too young to eat nuts!)
· Sesame seed: 30.9
· Wheat: skin was negative but blood was 19.8 very high for his age (what doesn't have wheat in it?)
· Soy: skin was negative but blood was 7.38. This may or may not be significant, but she wants us to avoid it for at least 2-4 weeks anyway. (OMG his formula and pretty much every single snack he's ever eaten has soy!)
· Rice: .054 it's ok to give him
· Oat: 0.16
· Turkey: 0.45
· Peas: 5.68 (he eats peas almost every day!)
· Corn: normal
She said she'd call the lab and have them also check for green beans, carrots, apples, bananas, strawberries, garlic, onion and lamb. I need to stop the soy formula IMMEDIATELY and Scott's on his way now to pick up a sample of an elemental formula (allergen free). We had to call our medical insurance to see if it's covered, and thankfully it is!! We can get a 30 day supply for only 1 copay of $15 once the doctor calls it in for us.
Right this very moment, I have practically nothing in the house for him to eat. His lunch was corn, allergy free raisin bread (I got it from allergygrocer.com and is free of all his allergens), and some carrots. Poor baby is very hungry. He did eat 1/2 a rice cake but threw the rest on the floor. He wants his pretzels or Gerber Puffs! Even the pre made Purdue chicken strips we buy have soy in them (so does my butter free popcorn so I can't even have that!!). He will have to live on fresh chicken, fruits and veggies (minus peas) and nothing else.
Since I'm still nursing (taking my time to wean him since I wasn't emotionally ready to fully wean yet and neither is he), that's about all I can eat as well. My lunch today was mashed potatoes and corn. I decided I need to wean him fully, and I need to do it ASAP. I'm very sad about this, but I need to eat. He doesn't know what else is out there that he's missing (except for his pretzels now), but I do and I can't live this way. Even the doctor said to me that "normally breastfeeding is the best thing to do, but in your case, I might think about weaning" and I agree with her. I'm just sad about it. Plus he's still not sleeping through the night (at least we know why he wakes up all itchy still!) and it's soo much easier to nurse him in bed when he wakes up 2-3 times a night rather than making a bottle and sitting up and feeding it to him. Plus, he's never crazy about taking bottles from me anyway, so me giving them to him at night's gonna drive him nuts and it'll take forever for him to accept it from me.
So needless to say, I'm VERY overwhelmed and sad. I'm sad for both me having to wean and for him. My poor baby. It's no wonder he hasn't slept through the night ever! This is one time where nursing definitely was NOT the best choice (and after everything I went through trying to nurse Jackie, it turns out it was the wrong thing for Seth... I can't win!)

Eliezrah - OMG I am so sorry. Now I am wondering whats up with donnie. I have to use the hydrocortizon EVERY day or it comes back. Its on his legs, a little on his chest, and the arms. THe arms have cleared up mostly but the legs have not. I eat lots of milk & soy stuff. UHHHH The dr doesnt seem to worry about it???:o
cartersmommy - do you need another person still? I haven't been on here in a while, we were on vacation and then been trying to catch up on laundry. Let me know.
SLEEP - or lack there of it, anyone else? I am starting the cry it out tonight after we go to sleep. So after about 930-10 if he wakes till 4am I am going to TRY. today for his naps he cried 30 min for the first and an HOUR for the second, but then slept over an HOUR for each!!! He wakes up ever TWO-THREE hours ALL NIGHT LONG. He was sleeping fine, then on our trip I had to go in to him so he wouldnt wake my nephew I think that was the start of the crying all night long thing and it has YET to stop.
I can't get over how fast this year has gone by. WOW. WE start ttc #2 in just a few months, I am starting to get really excited!!!

elizrah omg! i would be very overwhelmed too!
shushyk we just started this week sleep training kai. i was so over Kai fighting us to go to sleep, and sometimes he wouldn't go to bed until after 10! and then be up 2-3 sometimes even 4 times a night
someone started a thread on the furber method over in the parenting section, and it has been a great deal of help. The first night we did it, Kai cried for 50 minutes, he had one night where he cried for an hour during a night waking, but other than those 2 times things have been much better. In fact, last night he woke up and only cried for 15 minutes. Every night i put him down, i pray that the night goes well. So far things are an improvment, i just hope they stay that way

Elizerah - {{{HUGS}}} I SO know what your poor ds is going through. I have almost the exact same allergies - only i can have soy. DS did get my eczema but since i am a pro, i know how to spot it and what to do about it. I am sorry you are having to wean before you are ready - just know that you are doing what is best for both of you... being a mom is so hard sometimes...

JenJen and Kelly's Girl -
My Gabe is almost 11 months and is in the same stages as yours. Doesn't wave, doesn't say dadada to dad specifically, just started crawling a 4 weeks ago. pulls up on everything and cruises the furniture but nowhere near standing or walking on his own. I'm not worried - he's happy as a clam and is one active little boy. There is such a range - it's hard not to compare and get concerned about development when you see others doing things.
Nice to hear that we're not alone.

Eliezrah: Have you thought about putting Seth on a spelt diet? I have seen that work wonders in children with allergies and other food related problems. I don't think spelt as a remedy for these things is widely known here in the States but it is in Europe. You could just try giving him some spelt bread for a few days (just make sure it doesn't contain any of the other things he is allergic to) and see if his skin improves.

Eliezrah: I'm SO sorry to hear about Seth. One of my friends went through something similar with her little girl a couple years back & it was tough. It might make you feel better to know that she's outgrown a lot of it by now. Hang in there.
Gift exchange: I know there have been a few questions & suggestions, but can we spell out the "ground rules" in one place so everybody is on the same page? At a minimum, I think we need to specify:
Spending Limit
Timeline for shipment
I'm really excited about it & have a few ideas, but want to clarify these things first! Thanks! :)

eliezrah - So sorry to hear what you are going through. I know somewhat what you are going through about weaning before you and he are ready. I have started to wean DS in the last few weeks, since my milk supply was diminishing and it made/makes me so sad. My BIL is also allergic to pretty much a lot of the same things as Seth but wasn't diagnosed until he was an adult. :eek: It was such an adjustment for him and my SIL to find things that didn't contain wheat or dairy. If there is a bright side, the doctor's have got Seth diagnosed, so like you wrote, he doesn't know what he is missing out on in the food department, so hopefully it will be an easier adjustment for him.

QOTD - So I just counted and DS's first birthday is 6 weeks away! :eek: Have any of you thought about what you are going to get your DC for the first birthday? I'm so clueless as to what a one year old little boy would like in the toy department. Any ideas? I'm sure I will get him a new outfit or two and maybe a pair of shoes and maybe a new book, but I think he is getting bored with the toys we have now.

Carter's 1st bday is two weeks from tomorrow.... YIKES! we decided to do really good family pics for his bday... which he had taken a few weeks ago... this is probably the only year we won't get him anything. My parents are getting him the anywhere chair from PBK, and DH's parents are getting him a wagon (too cute!) and we have like 30 people coming to his party, so we figured it was ok to save this year and get him clothes and stuff :)

I think someone said it a few posts back... but IMO, I think the spending limit should be around $15 or so (before shipping, it shouldn't be TOO much to ship, I wouldn't think) and then maybe have everyone ship at the same time, maybe on October 11?? What do you all think? I don't want to be the one to set the rules! But if this works for everyone, I'm cool with that! :)

gifts--We're getting DS a BMW:eek: :D
http://www.bmwworld.com/bmw/kids/e46_racer.jpg
Our friends have these for their little guys and say they're awesome! That's all we're getting him. DS is really into blocks, so I think I'll have my brother get him legos. They have a set that are ages 1-3.
party--I just ordered invites, TY cards and candy wrappers from Ebay vendor today. I've found favors, which I'll order soon. Our guest list is about 30 total.
eliezrah--I'm so sorry about Seth's allergy situation. That's just awful. Good luck w/ weaning. It is tough physically and emotionally, but as you said its what's best for him now.
developments--DS is with the other late bloomers. His first tooth starting cutting through last week. He isn't crawling and really doesn't enjoy being on his tummy for an extended period of time. On the other hand, he's really into pulling up onto things and he's starting pushing his little walker around (with mommy shadowing him, of course;) ) He says mamama and dadada, claps and waves very infrequently. I stress about it sometimes, but then I remember he's a boy. Boys tend to be a bit behind girls in development. So, I try to find something else to stress about.

larger cars that he can push around
anything that requires taking in or out of something

There aren't that many resources on it in English but you could bring it up with your ped and see if he/she heard of it.
My co-workers wife was pregnant and due in January. They had the baby on Wednesday. Their baby girl was born at 23 weeks 5 days and she is fine. Of course she is in NICU and will not come home until her due date but she is completely stabilized with no complications. I couldn't believe it. My co-workers wife went into labor a week ago Wednesday and they were able to stop the contractions. Then on Friday her water broke and still they managed to stabilize that again. And then on Wednesday they were trying to move her to another hospital with better care and the baby decided to come. I'm so glad she is fine, I had no idea it was even possible for a baby to survive before 25 weeks.

Congrats Lysh!! We have decided to start trying for #2 in Oct! :D I am scared and excited at the same time!
elizerah to put it simply, I cook a LOT of my own food. I consume very little processed foods because they contain so many of my allergens :( Its good because i know whats in my food - bad because its not really "convenience food" For instance - i usually can't eat meatballs because a lot of people put eggs and breadcrumbs in them. God only knows whats in that breadcrumb stuff! I have to make my own with oatmeal as a filler. YUM! I've never really had milk/cream because i have been on soy milk from birth - i was allergic to my mom's breast milk because they hadn't really diagnosed me yet so she didnt know what to eat... Its really not as bad as it may seem - just different.
CJs wish list - he's in 18 months now and i think he'll be there through the fall. He LOVES balls and anything to knock over (stacking stuff)
Well, off to finish packing - its MAUI tomorrow!!!!! :D :D :D

Alex's wish list--well he doesn't need much since we have a 2 year old boy but 18-24 month winter clothes (he's in 12-18 now) if something cute; perhaps a cute plate/silverware set (plastic) so Colin doesn't have to "share" his (he's in a jealousy stage right now); some new sippies for him--we used the playtex ones for Colin and they worked well but they're looking pretty abused; some bath toys or a small set of peek-blocks (the new kind that are easier to stack would be nice--the old kind are so slippery).

Lysh - I posted over in LJ, but wanted to post here....CONGRATULATIONS!!! How exciting for you! :D I am still nursing DS in the morning and right before bed and can pump enough for 1 of 3 bottles at daycare. I had a good size freezer stash that helped me from the time I was 10-13 weeks pregnant. It was around 10 weeks of pregnancy, that I noticed a dip in my supply.

Congrats lysh! I'm glad we got number three now. Wouldn't have wanted it to be me! lol
....even though, I'm probably the only one who feels this way but I really do know 100% that I don't want another child and I also know that DH doesn't want one either. But in spite of that I still have a little bit of the baby bug. I think that is because Alex is growing up so fast and he is not a baby anymore and I miss him being a little infant. I am a little sad at the thought that I will never be pregnant again, never have an infant again, etc. But I am also thinking that even if I had another one then I would feel that way again when that one became a toddle. And I would have to draw the line somewhere I can't keep having babies just because I like having an infant around. Very confusing feelings though.

Jackie was born at 28 weeks and was in a Level 3 (the highest) NICU for 45 days. Babies CAN survive younger than 25 weeks, but there are USUALLY complications. Hopefulyl this baby beats the odds like Jackie did!!

Godsgift, thanks. I'm starting to get used to cooking more, but it's a huge PITA!! I fondly look back at the days of convenience foods! Have fun in Maui!
~~~~~~~~~~~
So we started his sleeping training Friday night instead of waiting till this upcoming weekend because of my weaning him. The behavouralist ahd said to pick 1 of his 2 nighttime wakings/ feedings and deal with that 1 first, then go on to the other. When he wakes for that feeding (we chose the first one of the night, usually between 10:30-11:30) and do whatever we can to get him back to sleep w/o feeding him. I can continue to nurse him for the second one (usually around 2:30-3:30) for now. Once he stops waking for the first one, we work on the second. She said it takes about 1 week, 2 weeks maximum, and the first 3 nights or so are the worst.
Friday night, he woke at 12:30 and Scott got him back to sleep. He woke up about 20 mins later and we got him back to sleep. He woke about 20 mins later, etc. until 2:30 am (I made 3/3:30 the limit for when the "second feeding" could start). He then slept till 5:30 when I nursed him and he slept again till about 8 am! We really expected it to take 304 hours minimum to get him back to sleep, not 2!!
Last night, my parents put him to bed (we were at a wedding) and forgot ot turn on his white noise machine. When we got home around 10:30, he sat up in his crib, but had his back to us. Scott reached over and turned on the machine (it's right next to the crib) w/o Seth seeing him, and SETH LAID BACK DOWN AND PUT HIMSELF BACK TO SLEEP ON HIS OWN!! He slept till 12:30 and it only took Scott about 5-10 mins to get him back to sleep! He slept till 3:30 then!! After I fed him, he slept till about 7 am!!
Today he went down for naps VERY easily!! We still need to rock/ hold him to sleep (we'll work on that once he's really and truly sleeping through the night), but it's soo much easier and he even had an hour nap today!!! In fact, just now he cried out in his sleep, poked his head up, and laid back down! Oh, he's also not crying the second he wakes the past few days.... he'll sit there and look around confused for about 2-5 minutes before crying!
We're gong to FL tomorrow for 4 days so I'm PRAYING it doesn't screw up what is working so great (and so quickly) for him! Once he stops waking for feeding #1, we'll work on #2. The behavouralist said that one is even easier since the baby already went thought it once. We usually end up putting him in bed with us after the second feeding to keep him sleeping, which we'll probably continue to do for a while. We want ot work on 1 thing at a time... After feeding #1 is totally gone, we work on #2. Then we'll work on not going into our bed at all, then we'll work on not needing ot be rocked to sleep. We're on our way!!!!!
We think the new allergy info is helping BIG TIME.... Even in the 2 brief days since we found out, his skin is WAY better already! Plus his poops have never been solid and we figured out a few days ago it was probably related to the allergies (I never thought about it so I never asked either the allergist or the ped). Well he had his first real solid poop today so we're guessing his skin and now his tummy are already feeling better! That's gotta be helping his sleep!!!
CONGRATULATIONS LYSH!!!
Dragonfly - YOu are not alone. We are not sure if we will have a #2. I'd like one but my DH is concerned about how we'd pay for college, go on vacation etc... Part of it's a lifestyle choice and part of it is just the practicality of it. Also, we had some signif. fertility issues and are just so lucky to have Gabe. It really was luck so #2 could be hard for us anyway if we wanted. Anyway, just wanted to let you know that you are not alone and I share some of your feelings as I, too, am mssing the infant stage. It is cool to watch him develop and grow but sad knowing this could be my only time experiencing all of this.
We are the same way with Hank. He's such a miracle, that I should be grateful and shut up about #2. But DH and I live so far away from our families, that we want Hank to have a sibling so he will have someone he is close to even after we pass on. Even if they aren't close growing up, there will be someone else to gripe with about DH and I. :p If it doesn't happen for us naturally, there is adoption. But I loved being pregnant (maybe because it looked like it wouldn't happen for us) and I look forward to going through it all again.
Anyone have suggetions on how to get my little guy to even TRY new foods. I just barely place things on his tongue and out it comes. Especially fruits and veggies. He'll only eat peas. Can't get him to eat fruit unless pureed. It's aweful. Banana, he'll eat only if I feed it to him. Won't pick it up. Even tried the can fruits that are super soft and no luck. Tried cheerio dust - nope.
Gabe's mom: thanks for the support. I think for us it is mostly lifestyle that keeps us from having another one. With one child we'll still be able to go on vacations, retire relatively early etc. And also just practicality alone. If we had another one we would have to buy a bigger house, I might have to quit working etc. All selfish reasons. I do feel a little guilt though since I was an only child until I finally got a sister when I was 9 and I remember constantly asking for a sibling before that. DH doesn't think it is a bad thing being an only child. He is the youngest of 4 so he thinks being an only child has definite advantages.
TTC #2 We have never prevented since Jack arrived. It took us 19 cycles to get pregnant with Jack so I'm not sure what our odds are this time around. I've heard they can better, but I'm a little older so we'll see I guess.
TTC #2 - Developments AF has arrived, so I suppose we could say "Game on." I think we'll wait until the new year, at least. Hank's timing worked out well with work, but with my body, I can't plan it.
question
for those of you who are using photoshop to create the picture with black and white with a touch of color, what photoshop program is it?
I want to make Kais b-day invitation using this and i don't know which one to buy.
Also, is it fairly easy to do?
I don't remember if I ever joined when I was preg. I don't think I did, because I didn't have the time. I seem to have a *little* more time lately. I would love to make some new mommy friends. I haven't had a chance to read through the whole thread yet. I'm going to try tonight after the kids go to bed. Time for dinner, I'll be back later. Oh and I'll try to find a picture or two of Hunter too.
OK I read through everything now.
Do you need anyone else for the gift exchange? If so I'd love it join. If not then that's fine too, my DH prob wouldn't love me spending more money anyway.
Just a couple of quick things to update all of you...
Hunter has 6 teeth. 4 on top and 2 on bottom
He started cruising about a month ago and is now walking 6-7-8-9 steps or so then he falls/sits down. It shouldn't be too long.
Says mama to me all day everyday. That's about all.
He's still eating lots of baby food. I've been wanting to switch but I guess I'm just lazy. He does eat occationally off my plate.
BTW I have a LJ so if you want to add me and I'll do the same my name is the same as here.
Mandy - Welcome! My little guy's name is Hunter also! I'll add you over to my LJ and I'm the same username over there.
TTC #2 - So exciting to hear about all those who will be TTC soon! I'm now 15 weeks along and have a doctor's appointment today. Can't wait to hear the h/b again. Don't know if I ever wrote about this or not, but I e-mailed an old co-worker of mine that goes to this same doctor. I was stressing out b/c the doctor's staff was leading me to believe they wouldn't do a u/s in the 2nd trimester. She said, she had one in the second trimester with this doctor and she had a problem-free pregnancy, so that made me feel better. I'm going to double check with the doctor today and confirm that and let her know what her staff was telling me was totally wrong.
Developments - DS has learned how to use a spoon now. He can't actually scoop things out (or rather I won't let him), but if I scoop it out and then hand him the spoon, he'll now put the spoon in his mouth rather than playing with it. This morning he refused to eat any other way than to feed himself.
jenjen0713I'll add you too! Thats very cool that your ds is named Hunter too! And you are going to have kids pretty much the same age apart as mine. It's lots of hard work but great. I love that the kids can play together and don't fight too much...yet.
It's kinda funny to hear everyone thinking about #2 when I already have my two and am done! It's cool I'll get to follow along and live through you guys. I would love to have more if we could afford it and I was sure I could handle more!
Mandy--welcome! There are a couple of us here with two kids--Eliezrah (Lisa) also has two as do I and I think there is someone else but since I'm on both the Sept and Oct mommies thread I sometimes forget who is in what thread). I'm on the fence about #3. DH really wants one. I told him once Alex finally starts sleeping better THEN we can discuss #3--until then no way. If we have 3 I'm done after that (barring any oops's).
Hi Everyone!
It's been forever since I have posted in here. Work has been so hectic and I just haven't had a free minute. It's finally slowing down though so hopefully I will be able to catch up now.
Makenzie is doing great. We have been giving her some milk in the afternoon and with her meals. She loves it. I was worried that she wouldn't drink it cold because she refuses her formula if it is cold, but that doesn't seem to be a problem. I only give her milk in a sippy because I would like to start weaning her off of the bottle too. I figure I will work on the daytime bottles first and then I will work on the morning and before bed bottles.
She recently moved her bedtime from 7:00 to 8:00. I am really enjoying it because it means I get to spend an extra hour with her at night.
ttc #2 I am definitely not ready yet. I think I would want 2-3 years in between kids. Of course, DH thinks he only wants one so I have some work to do in that department.
luvalwaysMandy Welcome! I am so glad you are joining us. I am darciec over on LJ so I will add you.
Welcome Mandy!
Congrats Lysh! H&H 9 months to you!
You all were worried about who was going to be #3, but you do know sooner or later there will be a 4th RO :p :D
#2 - everything has been going fine. We decided against any genetic tests and are going to hold off on doing the big u/s until 22-24 wks rather than 18-20 because that way I'll have something to do while waiting during the GTT and I think it makes it one less appt. If it's not an extra appt, then we will find out 18-20. I'm hoping for a boy, but 2 girls would be really neat and I don't think we'll be stopping at 2 anyways (thinking 3-4)
Daytona's wish list - she could use fall or winter clothes in 12-18mo. For toys she loves board type books and loves toys that invlove doing or manipulating something - turning knobs, opening and closing things, etc. I'm sure she would love a shape sorter as well.
Congrats on #2 lysh!
Welcome luvalwaysmandy!
Bday wishlist: Carter will be in 12-18 mos very shortly - we have a few outfits for fall/winter but we can always use more! ;) As for toys, he currently loves anything that he can pound on (his nickname right now is Bam-Bam), has music, wheels or lights. He loves to dance to music (just like his mom!). He really likes to figure out how things work so something that he can learn from would be great.
Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday weekend! We're taking our boat over to a local island and staying w/ some friends at their cabin. It's going to be mid-80's and sunny here in Seattle....probably our last good summer weather weekend though so we're taking advantage of it!
scubasam--i love your new avatar! he has grown so much. too cute.
i wanted to let you guys know what happened to ds this week. it started out with him having fevers for about 5 days and i never brought him in because both the ped and i decided to wait it out since he's still playful, eating and drinking and no nausea and vomiting. well, on the fifth day, his fever went away but he developed rashes on his trunk and back. my poor baby looked so bad with rashes but he remained so playful. i knew it had to be ROSEOLA. i spoke with our ped and she confirmed it. it's now the third day after the rashes came out and they are now very faint. we were going to take family pictures but that's now out until his rashes are completely gone.
hope everyone's weekend is going well.
I use Corel Paint Shop and it's VERY Easy!! I can even do it for you if you want.
mcl, sorry about the Roseola. How's he feeling?
~~~~~~
TTC #3: I sooooo want 1 more baby but Scott is 50/50 about it. A few months aog he was 80/20 against so my odds of convincing him are getting better! He said he's terrified of having another baby that doesn't sleep. But I assured him we most likley won't have these problems again becasue A) we'd have a house and Baby 3 would have his/her own room, B) After what we went/ are going through with his allergies and excema, we'd go to the allergist at the very first sign of excema (Seth's started showing up at 3 months), and C) we WILL NOT BF every single time the baby cries after age 4 months like we did with Seth. I've been queasy for the past week or so and have had a metalic taste in my mouth so of course I'm hoping that somehow the few times we DTD and I missed 1 or 2 BCP by accident were good timing, but I seriously doubt it.. I had to take clomid to ovulate both times....
~~~~~
So things here are pretty much the same. I took the kids to FL last week to "say goodbye" to my grandparents. Being away screwed up Seth's sleeping that we had been working on and screwed with his allergies as well. So we're sorta back at square one with both and it stinks!
I'm down to nursing Seth only 2 times a day now and he'll be fully weaned by the end of the week :( . I'm THRILLED that I'll be able to eat again, but sad that we won't have that special BFing time anymore... Going back to why I seriously doubt I have an oops baby (or ever can) is that we're almost fully weaned, even my boobs are almost back to their normal size, and still no AF.... I just don't ovulate on my own, or rarely do....
Question for mommies who weaned: How long after you were fully weaned did your boobs get fully back to pre-PG size?
~~~~~~~~~
I have some new, really cute vidoes uploaded to my dropshots account of the kids. I took several today while we were outside playing. The link is in my sig.... I'll post some new pics ASAP but I'm having trouble with photobucket right now....

lisa--the videos are so cute and funny. i can't believe how steady seth is with walking. ds has been walking too, but not as steady as seth is.
lex--i haven't been getting notifications until last night eventhough i made sure to put instant notification on the pull down choices:confused:
Lisa... My lactation nurse mentioned the other month to another mom in my class that your milk takes 45-60 days to dry up. So she recommened to wait about 2 months before shopping at Victoria Secret! HTH

luvalwaysmandy Welcome!!
We’re back from Maui and CJ was such a great little man! He handled the flight there like a champ and slept all the way home! It was CJs first experience at the beach – even though we live in southern California we don’t take him to the beach here because I hate the water – I guess I’m spoiled on the Caribbean waters! Here’s a pic of his reaction to the ocean

godsgift-LOVE the pictures! that is a really good family picture
weaning-i try to give the majority of kais day bottles to him in the form of a sippy cup, sometimes he will take it, sometimes he doesn't. If Kai is really tired, i let him have his bottle, and right before he is out, i place him in bed. (i have been trying to sleep train him for the last few weeks)
my dd wasn't completley weaned until sometime around 20 months. from 15 months on, she had to have 1 bottle before bed, it was her way of winding down.
Kanga

weaning - shooting for around 14 months. Dd will be a little over 16 months when #2 is born, so I really don't want 2 kids with bottles. I'd like to do it earlier, around 12mo or so, but since the food thing is so slow going I doubt it'd be possible. Still has a love hate relationship with her sippy, and the one time I tried giving her formula in a sippy she was MAD. We're going to talk to our ped on her 1yr wbv and see what to look out for in case there is an underlying problem (with re: to food), what those problems might be, or if we're just being over-paranoid first time parents and all that good stuff. I did get a little less than a 1/2 jar of apples mixed with mangos in her today at lunch. I was kinda surprised since she always refuses applesauce. She's also eaten green beans and carrots (mixed together, but refuses them seperatly), prunes, peaches (most the time), cheerios, and veggie puffs. Anything else has been a "no way, mom!" if we can even convince her to try it.
god's gift - 10 hours:eek: I'd hate to see how Daytona would react to that. Would not be fun, that's for sure. I'm envious of the rest of your trip though!
Eliezrah - The pictures and videos are so adorable!
Dh and I watched the two episodes on the Duggar family (the family with 16 kids) last night. His response was "No way would I ever want 16 kids, 2 is enough!" Me - "You don't want just 4?" "2, maaaaaaaybe 3, if you really want more after this one" I was hoping seeing a family with 16 kids would make 4 seem like nothing, but I guess it didn't work out so well:cool:

hey girls!
ok, need some prayers and moral support. DH (as some of you may know) had a heart transplant almost 4 years ago. he's done AWESOME and you'd never know he had one. they have weakened immune systems, though, and are much more susiptible to get sick. well, he is in the hospital right now with viral meningitis :( the drs. aren't worried, just me. i'm crazy. i seriously think that i can handle something happening with Carter than i can him.... but he's in a wonderful hospital with people that know him.... so that's good! the dr. said he would much rather it be viral than bacterial because something about bacterial causing more problems down the road? don't know for sure, but i guess that's good. please say some prayers that he has a short hospital stay and that he gets better 100% quickly!!

cartersmommy - You and your whole family are in my prayers!! Wishing him a speedy recovery!
godsgift - So, so jealous of you going to Maui and what a handsome little man you have on your hands! He didn't look too impressed with the beach! :)
elizerah - What great pictures of your kids! Amazing we have some walkers in here!
weaning - So glad someone brought this up!! My doctor said that weaning should start around 15 months and then our Parents as Teachers lady told us that we should have him completely weaned by 12 months! She said she will keep harping on me at each month's visit, until he is weaned. He does great with a sippy of water at meal, but at most he gets maybe 2 ounces. I just can't see him drinking all his milk from a sippy cup. I did try and start this weekend...I gave him 2 ounces of milk in a bottle, then I put 4 ounces in a sippy and gave that to him. He refused the sippy. I use Avent bottles and have an Avent sippy, so I swapped out the sippy top and put a nipple on the sippy cup and he happily drank it. I told myself, baby steps, baby steps. I am going to try and again this weekend practicing with the sippy.
I posted over in my LJ already, but I had an u/s yesterday and baby #2 is looking healthy and measuring fine. Unfortunately, she couldn't tell if it is a boy or girl, so we just have to wait a while longer.

party recap--we had Alex's party a week early because my parents were going to be on an Alaskan cruise next weekend. We had it together with my two SIL's (One neice was turning 1 on the 8th, one was turning 3 on the 9th and Alex was turning 1 on the 10th) at our house. It was hectic but nice to only have to deal with one party. It was pretty lowkey--ham sandwiches, pizza and cake and ice cream. A local high-end grocery store gives away free 1/4 sheet cakes to babies for their first b-day so we went with the free cake (which was excellent):

Heather - what a GORGEOUS cake!! It looks so yummy! I think i gained 5 pounds just looking at it :) Cool gifts! I really want that shape box thingie - CJ would probably only throw it! :)
weaning - CJ is completely on table food now. He's been eating completely table food for a little over a month now so i'm not concerned about milk/formula anymore. I know he doesn't "need" it - its totally a comfort thing for him. Once he gets back on schedule (Hawaii killed his sleep schedule) I'll try the sippy cups during the day. The night bottle is going to have to go last... *sigh*
