2jacks welcomed her baby girl into the world today! Heather's water broke at 10 this morning (at Menards!!) and baby was born at 3:12 in the afternoon. She was able to get her GBS IV, an epidural at 9 cm, and pushing lasted only a few short minutes! The whole family is doing well and momma sounded great! Please join me in welcoming:

I only have a little bit until I need to feed the baby so I won't be able to do SOs this time, but I wanted to say thank you to you all for your well wishes and prayers.

We got home last night around 8pm. Dexter was really hyper because he hadn't seen me for so long. But we put Michael in his carseat on the coffee table and let Dex sniff him. He is really curious about the baby but he is keeping his distance. Overall, he is handling the situation pretty well - learning his boundaries, etc.

We went to the ped. appt today. M is up to 6 lbs. 9 oz. (he had gotten down to 6 lbs. 7oz. at the hospital) and his slight jaundice is getting much better. Since he was breech, the doctor would like for us to take him for an u/s to check for hip dysplasia. She moved his legs around a lot and said she thinks it is highly unlikely that he has any problems, but wants to do it to be safe. We have to go to Ft. Worth for that, so they will call us when they get us an appt. We also went to rent me a hospital grade pump. Apparently I have inherited the family genes of a good milk supply. Poor baby can't keep up with my supply and my boobs were getting red and warm today. They were so engorged this morning that M had trouble latching on and we ended up having to use some of the EBM I had pumped at the hospital yesterday. But I pumped like a mad woman this afternoon (4.5 oz) and his last feeding was very successful. Tomorrow I go in to get my staples removed (ugh).

My brother had a setback yesterday. After a bleed and surgery like his, it is possible for the arteries in the brain to spasm, which could lead to vessel constriction, lack of oxygen, and possibly a stroke. They do a vascular doppler on him everyday to check for these spasms. Yesterday his numbers got a little too high, so they started hourly neurological checks on him as a preventative measure and last night they ran another CT scan, which luckily came back good. This leaves him very little time to rest, which he really needs in order to heal. So he has had a rough couple of days. This is all taking a toll on my parents, so I ask that you pray for them as well. During my short time as a mommy, I have come to realize how everything changes when it is YOUR child. I cannot tell you how much my family and I appreciate your thoughts and prayers during this time.

I hope to get on here tomorrow and do replies. Thanks again for everything!

Here are a few pics because he is just too precious not to post them!

Congratulations 2Jacks!!! Welcome baby Eliza James! I love love love the name. Very spunky!

Craft Claire is beautiful! So glad your are home from the hospital.

UTchick I'm so sorry to hear about your brother's setback. It sounds like he has very good doctors that are keeping a close eye on him. I'm sure he will be just fine and holding that gorgeous little baby of yours very soon. Hang in there.

As for me... had a rough night of sleeping last night. So today feel pretty awful. So wish I could leave work early... Boy, my mind is blanking on everything else. Sorry.

Have a great day ladies.

Congrats UTchick and 2Jacks!! Wonder who is next??? Cjones??? Cosmic???? Camdynlyn??? LMC??? Any other takers??

Well, I see that my cousin Vita updated you all on my status. Claire was born on August 18 at 5:58 PM. She was 5 lbs 6.6 ounces and 19 inches long. This is how it all went down...I went to my 37 week appointment...which would be my last since I was scheduled for the following Thursday (Aug 24). As usual I had my ultrasound...the tech said that the fluid level was 10...which she said was in the normal range. I went across the hall for my OB appointment...the nurse took my BP and it was a high. I totally expected my doctor to come in and say she was putting me on bedrest for the rest of the week. Imagine my surprise when she said that I could be in the beginning stages of preeclampsia and that she didn't like the fact that my fluid levels were dropping each week...so she wanted to admit me into the hospital THAT DAY! She further said, "I want to hold out until Thursday if we can, but I really believe that you may be delivering this baby before then." The doctor's office is in the physician's tower next to the hospital where I was having my baby...so they got a wheelchair and wheeled me over to admitting. I called DH crying.

Anyway...Over the course of Thursday night’s monitoring, my BP went down to normal, so I was expecting to be sent home on Friday. The doctor had ordered another ultrasound on Friday just before lunch where I was told that my fluid was 7.5! It dropped from 10 to 7.5 in one day! When I got back to my room, the nurses told me not to order lunch until the doctor got a chance to see my results. I knew what that meant...if she didn't like what she saw she was going to deliver me that day! An hour later, sure enough…the doctor came by and said that wanted to deliver me. They started prepping me for my c-section around 4:00 PM on Friday…I was scheduled to go into the delivery room at 5:30. I was surprisingly calm about the whole thing…I was in this zone and was totally focused….kinda like I was for my wedding. DH thought I would be freaking out but I wasn’t. During the epidural (the thing that I was most afraid of), I just held on to the nurse and hummed! Haha! I know…weird…but it worked. It didn’t hurt nearly as much as I thought it would. When I was all prepped and numb they let DH into the delivery room. It took them around 15 minutes to get Claire out of my womb and I started BALLING when everybody sighed relief and the doctor said, “Here’s your baby girl !! She’s beautiful…has a head full of hair!” Everybody kept saying, “She’s a petite little thing!” I thought she would be at least 6 pounds…I was shocked to find out that she was only 5 lbs 6.6 ounces. Despite her small size she is quite healthy. Remember back to week 22 of my pregnancy when there was some question about whether or not one of her kidneys had a problem? Well they did some tests and an ultrasound to test her kidney function and both kidneys are absolutely fine. The reason I was in the hospital for so long was because I had a high temperature on Saturday night. So the doctor ordered me to be pumped with IV antibiotics for at least three days.

Since coming home, I have found it to be quite challenging keeping up with pumping (baby wouldn’t latch on which is why I am not breast feeding), preparing a bottle,
feeding, taking care of my own body after a c-section and getting enough rest. Baby girl has her days and nights mixed up and has been sleeping wonderfully in between feedings during the day, but at night she doesn’t fall off to sleep as quickly after a feeding. I am EXHAUSTED today! My mom is a great help though. DH helps too but he didn’t do too much last night!!! But I didn’t push him because he had to be at work today at 6:30am. I find myself being really emotional. I cried this morning to DH on the phone because I am a little overwhelmed. I’m wondering how I am going to keep up with the pumping, and my breasts are so SORE and engorged I didn’t sleep comfortably last night…and I don’t have any new bras (didn’t have time to go get them). When DH comes home today he is taking me to buy some. Despite wearing nursing pads last night, I soaked through them leaving my sheets wet this morning. MSH will, I believe, be adding baby photos to the Mommy ID's at some point. As you post photos, be sure to specify which one (if any) you'd like posted! MSH, is that all right?

How close up do you want to get? Are you wanting a good lens for people photos, or are you wanting a macro lens for the super up-close photos?

If you want a good all-around people lens, I'd suggest the ~$75 Canon 50mm f/1.8, available at bhphoto.com. This is a great lens for low-light situations (thus avoiding using your flash).

If you want a good macro lens, I'd suggest the ~$400 Canon 100mm f/2.8

I am loving seeing all these babies!! It is what is keeping me going right now remembering what the result of all this nonsense is! I'm still here and still very much pregnant. The doctor yesterday finally said yesterday to wait to return to the hospital until and I quote "you are curled up in a ball on the floor in excruciating pain, there is blood running down your legs and soaking your clothing, or your water breaks." At this point, my body is doing all of the labor stuff, except I'm still at 1-2 and 60%. They even told me to disregard the discharge papers because everything that they list on there as a reason to call your doctor/come to the hospital (with the exception of the 3 things I mentioned) have happened already with no luck. I have an appointment on Monday, August 28 and they will schedule an induction at that point. I was trying to make jokes about it yesterday and told my husband that if this kid keeps it up, I'm going to come up with some totally horrid name, just to punish him for this torture! :p

Haven't been around much the last few days. Doctor put me on bedrest at my appt on Tuesday she said my blood pressure was a little to high for her. I go back in the morning and we could have the baby next week. If my Bp is high then to. They took it several times and she said we have been down this road before so we know what we need to do. The house isn't ready for the baby yet. We had to call the landlord and tell him this house has got to be sprayed because our neighbors and the heat have bugs coming inside I can not bring a baby into this house with bugs. I am off to lay on the couch again. Tkae care all and I will try to post tomorrow and let you all know what is going on.

add me to the cryers. It's sinking in that this time next week (God willing) I will have 2 sons to care for. It is such an overwhelming feeling. I've been so tired lately yet I can't sleep for more than 4 hours a night. My heartburn is excrutiating. The acid just burns up my throat. I bawled all last night and then today as well. I keep thinking about my maternal grandmother. She passed away on her 84th bday 6 years ago and obviously never met my children. She raised me and it just kills me that she isn't here to see my boys. See, here I am tearing up just writing this. :o I know she's looking down on us but I just wish she were here.

Heartburn is back, and with a vengeance, especially at night.

LMC- Oh my goodness! I just got my shower gift from you and it was so much fun to open! You've single handedly increased the amount of toys in this house by almost 100%. Thank you!! I'll post pics when I can. You hang in there, girl. It can't be another 9 months, and it sounds like this may be your last one, too, right?

di- If any of us deserves to "goof off" for a night it's you! You've been giving the rest of us a bad name, being so gosh darn productive every night! ;)

Welcome, rippy! You should go ahead and post your stats... we'd love to have you be 'official' if you're up for it! And if your bambino is listening to you join, maybe he or she will be more likely to take the hint and show up early!

I just came home from 1) a midwife appt where I was told baby's head is "really engaged" and turned in the best possible way (looking towards my back)-- and so then I called my best friend who is an acupuncturist and had appt number 2) a session with some needles in labor-inducing points! Not that it is immediately effective, and if baby's not ready, it ain't going to work anyhow, but  that sure makes this feel more real... to be actively trying to get the ball roling!

Hi ladies,

loving all these baby pictures.

My update: my shower is the 9th and will have my pessary removed the following Monday or Tuesday (as long as I can convince the doctor to wait as I will be 36 weeks still) she believes very soon after the pessary comes out I will deliver. So that is defintely mid-Sept if so.

Thanks Emily for posting for me!! WELCOME TO ALL THE BABIES!!!!! Glad to see our thread jumping.

We just got home this afternoon and everthing is wonderful. Nathan is a champ at breastfeeding! We had a wonderful ride home from the hospital in a limo!!! My DH and Dad set it all up without me or anyone else knowing!! I will be back in a day or two with a birth story. I will say it was very unexpected that Nathan came when he did. Gotta make a stop in the breastfeeding thread with a few questions.

Hi! Had a dr. appointment today. Everything looked fine, I’m measuring perfectly, and I’m progressing. I’m 3 cm dilated and, in my drs. words, I’m “as effaced as you are going to get until you are in real labor.” So … when exactly will that be? Some people are in active labor at this point … I wonder why I am not. I think my doc did the sweeping of the membrane thing. All I know is he said “hold my two fingers if it hurts” … and I held his 2 fingers. IMO, it hurt. Then I asked why it hurt this time, and he said “trying to help you along.” Alrighty, cool! So could have a baby tonight, could have baby Sophie in 2 weeks. It’s just a waiting game now. Dr. thinks Sophie is about 7 – 7.5 lbs right now. Ok, don’t keep growing b/c if I don’t have her now and in 2 weeks – she could be almost 9 lbs! Official weight gain so far – 25 lbs.

CONGRATS, CJONES - Can't wait to hear about the birth story and see some more pics of Nathan. Also - really glad the non-movement issue you were having with him wasn't an issue after all!

Rippy - Hey Ally! It'll be fun to have you in here ... add your stats! :)

Alliesmomma - I hate to say "enjoy" your bedrest ... but enjoy it! These might be the last few weeks you get some real rest for a while. :) Just out of curiosity - how high was your BP? They said mine was high today and it has never been high before.

Congrats craft, cjones, and 2jacks!!! Can't wait for more babies to start arriving!

Things are going well here. Michael has definitely caught on to BFing and eats very well, which is good considering my freaking unbelievable supply. As of tonight I have already frozen 30 oz. since coming home Monday night. Trust me, I am estatic, but it also means that my boobs are constantly full. I feel like I spend all day feeding and pumping! :p I just can't express in words how in love I am with this baby. DH and I still can't believe he is ours.

Thanks again for all the continued prayers for my brother. He had a little bit better day today but still has 4 more days of being in the high risk for stroke window.

UTChick - that is great you have such a good supply! I was definitely like that in the beginning w/ DD (and never had supply issues for the year I BF'd).

Engorgement is a vicious cycle...pump to relieve and you are telling your body you need to make that amount. Can you slowly start to decrease the amount you are pumping, to get your body to stop making quite so much? Also, do you pump after or before a feeding? Just make sure the baby gets the hindmilk too (if you are only pumping after...if you pump before the baby should be getting the hindmilk.) :)

Morning ladies,

So far I am one of the non-weepy ones. But that could change in an instant.

I am feeling really good. A little more swollen than usual, but not too bad. Doc said baby is about 6lbs and should be 7-7.5 lbs at birth. Boy, I hope he's right. I've been having dreams about a 10 pounder! My doc doesn't do internals, so don't know if I'm dialated. I must say, I have a feeling that I'm going to be late. Funny, since I was so freaked out about going early (the fear monger nurse kept telling me "30 wks is our goal..." Ha! Take that b*tch!)

Okay, so does everyone else end up wearing everything they eat? It seems like everything I eat ends up on my shirt. I feel like a total slob. I've been eating lunch with my lab coat on!

I also decided to take advantage of an eager supply of prostaglandins to jumpstart labor (aka DH). Anyone else feel like sex is some cruel trick of nature during the 8th month of pg? How about this, try that, move there, how about this... Dh and I ended up laughing more than anything. Jeez.

Take care everyone.

Aletheia
08-25-2006, 05:08 AM
If my DH knew I was going to agree with batgirl's description of a husband as an eager supply of prostaglandins he wouldn't be too happy. So I guess I'll refrain. ;)

It's 5 a.m. here and I've been up since 4. DH starts a new rotation today that means he doesn't need to be at clinic until 8. 8!! Not 5:30! But my body doesn't understand the difference yet (nor does the cat for that matter) and we both want breakfast and to get going. I get tired of trying to get comfy in bed for hours on end.

Yes! Everything I spill seems to be oil based too so it stains & I refuse to buy new maternity shirts with 10 days left.

Laughing at your sex attempts...you are a better woman than I am;)

Last night I had contractions!!

Hi Everyone!

So DH and I thought we’d jump on the bandwagon and try to move labor along with some “natural induction” methods … we ate some spicy food, took our usual 1.5 mile walk, had a ½ glass of wine, and then DTD … we packed it all in, didn’t we? LOL! :) Not 30 mins after DTD, I got contractions! Seriously! They lasted nearly 2 hours and they were anywhere from 2 mins – 15 mins apart. Then, poof, they were gone. Just gone, like they never even happened.

Um – I think those suckers hurt! My back hurt the worst and when the contractions were over, the pain in my back still lingered for a while. Felt like I needed to continually try and crack my back or something. And, I felt like I had to use the bathroom every time … did any of you guys have that with contractions? So I told my husband when the show was over that maybe we were just going to let this baby come on out on her time … I don’t think I want to put myself in pain like that again. Eek! How am I going to handle the real thing? Well … either way … it’s really fun and exciting to know we are just a few days away from holding our little girl! For all of you pregnant girls remaining – that goes for you, too!!

-----------------------------
UTChick - I'm so glad to hear you are doing well. Still saying prayers for your brother!

Hello ladies, first of all thanks MSH for the awesome thread! I just realized that the my mommy ID on the front still has me as a repeat offender, can you please change that as this is our first baby? thanks!! Congratulations to all the new mommies and welcome to all the babies, they are so precious!! I can't wait to read your birth stories.

Update on me… I had an appointment yesterday and I am 2cm dialated and 50% effaced, which means nothing. We made our next appointment for Tuesday 8/29 and he will 'strip the membranes' then, he actually wanted to do it yesterday but I just feel like if we are rushing things. DH was pretty bump that I didn't let him do it, he is very impatient to meet the baby, and I am too, don't take me wrong, I just feel like the harder we try the harder is going to be on us everyday that goes by.
We also discussed induction, which I hate even thinking about it, but if this baby doesn't come within the next week we might have to go that route. My doctor usually doesn't let you go more than 41 weeks, as a matter of fact he induces on your 41 week which would be a week and a half from today. As I mentioned before my parents are coming from overseas on 9/01 and my dad is only staying for 10 days, which means I have no choice but being induced if the baby doesn’t come on his own, I can't have my dad come all the way here and go back without meeting his grandson, specially when my dr would only let me go one more day without inducing me. I am just not too happy about this, I really wanted to go natural and I know once they induce me there is no way I can go without the epidural because of the effects of pitocin, I am also scared that I am increasing the chances for a C-section… not fun! So hopefully baby B will come on his own within the next 10 days.

TMI ahead in case someone doesn't want to read pls feel free to skip-- I had a scare yesterday, after the doctor's I came to work and I started feeling very crampy, which I knew it could happen after you get an internal done. I stood up to go the bathroom and I thought my water broke, I could feel a lot of liquid coming out of down there, I run to the bathroom and it was not my water but blood! It was so scarey I have never seen so much blood. Needless to say I had to go home because it went through my clothes… disgusting! Called the doctor and they assure me everything was fine just to keep an eye on it. It is a lot better today (already brownish) but still bleeding some.

Other than that I feel pretty ready… or as ready as I could feel I guess, I am getting very excited about baby B's arrival, but I am already missing my prego days… weird huh?.
This weekend we are just going to chill and enjoy time together since this is our last weekend by ourselves (next weekend my parents will be here).

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Tgoody03- Tammie I read your update on the August thread, that is awesome!! I bet you Sophie will be here this weekend. Where are you going to deliver? Northside? Piedmnot? I think I read something about having to drive all the way to downtown.

Had an apptmt. yesterday - 37 weeks, 4 days. Doc said I was measuring a little small, but it could just be baby's position, plus, I hadn't seen this doc in a while, and they all take measurements a little differently, I guess.

Then he did my first internal of the whole PG. Oh. Oh my. How uncomfortable! Not painful, really, but YIKES! DH was laughing at me, but the doc said he had to go really far up to feel baby's head. He said I was a fingertip dilated and my cervix was "getting nice and soft" - he said everything looked good.

Had an US, and it sucked because I didn't get to see ANY of it! And she was having trouble getting certain measurements, so it went on for a while.

Then we went to BRU and SPENT! Dude! We spent so much money, and when we got home, DH was like "That much for that little amount of stuff?" Oh well. We need it! Used gift cards from my coworkers and DH's cousin, so that made it a lot easier on our credit card.

We got the combo dresser/changing table out of the SUV the other day, with help from BIL. Didn't fully unwrap it until yesterday, when we discovered some major damage to the top of the raised hat part. It's only one piece of wood, and hopefully the company will send us a replacement part. DH was so frustrated and disappointed, though. He just wants to have the room all put together. Me too!

Hi girls!

I will get to updating the MommyIDs this weekend with baby pictures!! I can't believe they are coming already and so many seem to be just around the corner too.

I just had my 36w appt on Weds. All is normal, they did my GBS which I get the results of on Tuesday.

I've had a terrible dull backache for a few days now. There is no relieving it. A warm bath only helps while I am in the water and it doesnt' make a difference if I am sitting, laying or standing. I get a few contrax now and again. Nothing painful and only for about an hour at a time. Lots of BH though. Also I thin the baby dropped quite a bit yesterday as I cannot walk 'normal' today, no matter how hard I try. Plus it feels like the head is right there and causing the waddle. I had to wake DH in the middle of the night to give me a puch so I could turn over and get out of bed to the bathroom :)

Oh, yes, thanks for reminding me, MSH! GBS was negative, which I am so happy about! I hate the idea of being on an IV from the very start!

babywish Scary - but it sounds like it could just be the internal exam. Hope you are taking it easy just in case.

{b} Were they able to give you an estimate of baby's size?

Irritated Last night I washed all the bedding for the crib and managed to substantially shrink the crib skirt. I am so pissed at myself since it is a good four inches short now on the long side of the crib and at least two inches on the short side. I am going to see what I can do about it tonight, but I may have to go buy a new one if I can't get it fixed! Hopefully I can just sew the edges together to make a corner that doesn't look too bad. Why I felt the need to wash the crib skirt that will never come into contact with the baby, I don't know!

WOW ! Congrats to all the new beautiful babies! I am sneaking in here while I amalone well Eliza is chilling in the bouncy- but how exciting is this all getting?!

Dotsie when I got home from the hospital yesterday- your package was awaiting me- THANK YOU! We will use the boppy cover until it is worn out!

I will update more later- trying to get a pic or two on here. BUT
Things went well. Short labor as Twink said and I am having little to recover from. Only a few superficial tears that do not bother. Things are good- BF is getting much better those first few days are hardest!

Better run- Heather

Oh!

Things are being purchased off our registry! Wahoo!

Oh 2jacks! How exciting! Please don't forget we are all awaiting pictures of fat little baby thighs and cute little baby ears, etc. ;)

twink- If I were you (but still had my own modicum of pushy customerness) I would take the crib skirt back and say "look at this!! it shrunk! it doesn't fit my crib anymore!" and request an exchange or my money back. if they refused, i would start crying and talking about how stress is bad for the baby. (ok, just kidding about that last part.) ;)

twink,

I would take it back to the store, even if you don't have the packaging. We were at BRU the other day and one of the preemie outfits had a return tag on it, said was returned because it shrank. I looked at it and not even a baby doll head would have fit in the hat, it shrank that much.

From my journal:

Now, before y'all get excited, know it could fizzle out. But my water broke at 4 a.m., I lost my plug at 5, and I've had consistent contractions since then. I'm currently eating some oatmeal (complex carbs for the long road ahead) and trying to relax so I can catch some more sleep afterwards. (Doubtful, but as we were at a party until 12:30 a.m., a good idea.)

I got up at 4 to pee, and maybe to do some other business... I felt a lot of pressure. I was really sleepy, and was begrudgingly/sleepily sitting on the toilet after peeing when GUSH. I thought: that's not pee. And I woke up. Way awake. And then it kept coming in sporadic little gushes for 5 minutes or so. It was hard to estimate how much there was.

So after I seemed to be done leaking, I got up, got some panties and a pad, and woke DH. His response (which would have been the same even if I said "I just had the baby in the bathroom") was: "are you sure?" He's cute that way, esp. when you wake him in the middle of the night.

So I got back in bed and about 20 minutes later I had my first contraction. Not very long, but so very not a braxton hicks. The tightening was the same, I guess, but it was like a real intense twinge of menstrual cramps on top of that (well, really below that, geographically speaking.) Honestly, it scared me a little. The third one in was really painful because suddenly

...contraction...

I needed to pee and it hurt to have to pee at the same time.

So I got up to pee and lost my plug in the toilet. Pretty obvious that's what it was, alright. Man, it's been a while since I've seen blood in the toilet!

Then I started shaking as I realized yeah, this is probably it. Who knows how long it will take, and things may hit a standstill before starting up again, but the reality kind of hit a new level: I'm having a baby. Who knew you could go through 39 weeks of pregnancy and somehow still need time to come to grips with that fact? This oatmeal I'm eating... this is one of the last meals at the end of an era. Yes, yes, Aletheia is so dramatic. But really-- all bets are off after this. There's no telling how I'll feel in my new life.

DH is in bed, by the way. He got a good night's sleep last night, since he didn't need to be at work until 8 a.m., but we did get home awfully late last night and he needs to rest up to support what's to come. I do too. But I've been eating breakfast at around 5:30 for the last two months-- no reason to stop now, when I'm going to need my energy the most. The timing should work out well, actually: I usually get up with DH, have breakfast, and then go back to sleep for several hours. Hopefully I can do that. I'm going to need the energy!

So there, my friends, is the play by play. I'll update as soon as I can, or strong arm DH into doing it. Wish me luck and humor.

...contraction...

***

So I'm munching on the last bit of oatmeal and getting ready to head back to bed. Wish me luck! I'm a little daunted at what lies ahead, quite honestly. These contractions already hurt quite a bit, and I'd really like to have a drug-free birth.

FIrst of all OMG Aletheia, this is it! I can't wait to read the whole thing and see pictures. good luck!! I am sure I am not the only one who will be thinking of you today!

On my end... a quick update, everything the same, as a matter of fact now that everybody is expecting this baby soon I think he is not going to come for another week, which I am fine with! DH gets nervous everytime I move, but I really think is not going to be until next week or so (I just hope is before my induction date).

[[[ a little TMI... again]]] So this morning DH decided to DTD, afterwards I went to the bathroom and A LOT of stuff came out, at first I thought it was just 'swimmers' but then I realized that there was some blood and other 'colors' and there was way too much to be only that. I told DH I 'thought' I lost my mucus plug, later on I went back to the bathroom and yup, there is no doubt I lost my mucus plug, not that this means anything since you have like two weeks to go in labor after you loose it, but I guess it means that my body is getting ready for the big day... how exciting!

Seems like this weekend we will have more babies... anyone else other than Aletheia up for it????

Good luck Aletheia!!! How exciting! You are more relaxed than I would be, since as soon as my water breaks, I'd be heading straight to the hospital - contrax or not!!

I forgot to post that I am GBS +. Darn. I freaking hate IV's. I'm more frightened of getting the IV than of labour!

I also started losing my plug yesterday morning, which has slowly continued onto today. It's different than last time - no blood, just mucous. I really wish my contrax would stop teasing me, and either get stronger or go away. The OB told me that she would do a 'sweep' (strip membranes) when I see her on Tuesday. I hope it brings labour!

Yeah, there's no way I could do it right now. The thought is just not appealing to me even if it can jump start labor. I'm so uncomfortable and I have so much pressure going on that I know it could not be enjoyable.

First off, a big hooray for Aletheia!! Hope all is going well and your little one is with you soon!

Are you planning to go back to work? How soon? Yes, part-time (4 days/32 hrs a week) after 13 weeks.

Are you planning to co-sleep? No. I do enough damage (kicks, elbows) to the cats and Dionysios! ;)

Are you planning to vaccinate? Yes, and on schedule too. The only one we may not do is the chicken pox one.

Are you planning to circumcise a boy? Yes

Where are you planning to give birth? (ie home, FSBC, hospital) Hospital

What's in your birth plan? My unwritten birth plan is to have a healthy baby. I'm open to pain meds & an epidural if I feel I need them.

Are you planning to go back to work? How soon? No, I am a SAHM.
Are you planning to breastfeed? Yes, at least a year, probably longer.
Are you planning to co-sleep? If DD#2 is open to it, we are, too. DD#1 didn't like co-sleeping at all, so we will see how it goes.
Are you planning to vaccinate? Probably will do some, but on a delayed schedule and will not be getting all they recommend.
Are you planning to circumcise a boy? N/A, thank goodness! That would have been a battle between DH and I! :)
Where are you planning to give birth? (ie home, FSBC, hospital) I am having a homebirth.
What's in your birth plan? No plan really, but I think I'd like to birth in the tub this time.

Are you planning to go back to work? How soon? no, i'm a sahm.
Are you planning to breastfeed? yes, for at least a year.
Are you planning to co-sleep? yes.
Are you planning to vaccinate? yes, but on a selective and delayed schedule.
Are you planning to circumcise a boy?unfortunately, yes. dh has won this battle. i'm hoping that if i force him to go watch it being done, he'll chicken out at the last minute.
Where are you planning to give birth? (ie home, FSBC, hospital) hospital.
What's in your birth plan? i'll ask for drugs if i want them. no episiotomy. baby to be placed immediately on my chest w/ skin to skin contact. cord not to be cut until finished pulsing. all newborn procedures to be done after some bonding time and nursing. newborn procedures and bath to be done in my room. no vaccinations. baby to room in. no pacifiers, no bottles. we'll be doing additional newborn screening.

Good luck, Aletheia! That is so awesome that you are sitting their typing to us and so calm at that! I know what you mean about the contractions hurting already ... I had some the other night and thought the same thing! I can't wait to hear how it all goes and to see pics of your sweet little baby.

Babywish - I read somewhere today that if you lose your mucus plug and it has a lot of blood with it, then typically the woman goes into labor in 1 day  Who knows if that's true, but that's what I read!

Mucus plug - How do you girls know for sure you've lost your mucus plug? I have a lot more goo than I ever have, but none with a pink or red tinge. Also - my neighbor asked me if I had lost it yet, and I said I didn't think so. And she told me it would be hard not to have if I am nearly 100% effaced. Does anyone know if that is true?

-----------------------------

Are you planning to go back to work? How soon? - Yep. Jan 2 .... PT, MTW for a total of 24 hrs/week.
Are you planning to breastfeed? - Going to try my absolute best!
Are you planning to co-sleep? - Going to try my absolute best not to. I have a fear of squishing the baby!
Are you planning to vaccinate? - Sure am.
Are you planning to circumcise a boy? - N/A for me ... but when it is Yes.
Where are you planning to give birth? (ie home, FSBC, hospital) - Hospital. Never really considered any other options only because of potential emergencies, etc. and living so far from a good hospital.
What's in your birth plan? - Nothing is written in stone. I just want everyone to be happy and healthy. I am hoping to have the first set of drugs and when they wear off, if the contractions are unbearable, I'll move to the epi. I'm definitely not opposed to pain management - that's for sure!

Camdynlyn

Tgoody: I started loosing mine a couple weeks ago and then Thursday a big glob came out. It was yellowish but hard to miss. It was about a handful of goo. Nasty. Mine wasn't blood tinged but they said it can be.

Are you planning to go back to work? How soon? - Yes. after a meer 8 weeks. Not happy about this, but it seems to be the only way, financially and benefits-wise
Are you planning to breastfeed? - Absolutly!
Are you planning to co-sleep? - I want the Arm's Reach Co-Sleeper, DH isn't so sure. But i know as soon as baby is here, he won't want to put him or her in a crib in baby's own room, even though it's real close to ours.
Are you planning to vaccinate? - I waiver. Some I think yes, absolutely, others, I think no. And hopefully on a delayed schedule, my sister's kids are very, very sensitive to them and I want to be sure baby is OK.
Are you planning to circumcise a boy? - Only because DH is insisting. Though again, I really think once baby is here (if it's a boy), he may change his mind
Where are you planning to give birth? (ie home, FSBC, hospital) - Hospital, though I plan to do more research next time (if there is a next time!) into FSBC and midwife care
What's in your birth plan? I want to be patient, to labor as much as I can at home, to have a relaxed, gentle birth with little or no medical intervention and medication free. But I'm keeping an open mind.
Cloth or disposible diapers (or other!) [i]Disposible, because DH is so incredibly icked out by the idea of cloth.
Do you plan to wear baby? I hope to! I'm giong to go look at slings sometime this week, I hope

Dang, I meant to ask how people were planning to diaper and if they plan to babywear, too. I'll add those in, if people want to answer!

Oy, it's been awhile since I've been on here!
CONGRATULATIONS to all of the new mommies...I can't belive our time is finally arriving!

This coming week is my last week of work, thank god!!! Even though I only work part time it has been rough on the body!
I have been getting tons of BH ..ever since about 20 weeks but they have becoming increasingly painful over the last month.
I start my weekly appointments on Friday the 1st, and my internals. I had the test for Strep B last time (the 18th) but have not heard anything back...I am hoping his means good news :p
Total weight gain so far has been 22 lbs but I have a feeling I lost some because I had a stomach bug this past weekend...blech!!!
The questions... :)

Are you planning to go back to work? How soon? Yes, part time, at least 20 hours a week after 3 months.

Are you planning to breastfeed? We had all sorts of problems with Henry BF but I do want to try again.

Are you planning to co-sleep? The new baby will be in a bassinett right beside me for as long as she will fit, and after that I am putting her in a crib in our room. DS sleeps in our bed.

Are you planning to vaccinate? yes

Are you planning to circumcise a boy? This one is a girl but we did circumcise DS.

Where are you planning to give birth? (ie home, FSBC, hospital) hospital

What's in your birth plan? My plan is not to have a plan LOL. My only must have is the eipdural. I wish I was brave enough to try drug free but I am the biggest wimp when it comes to pain. Other than that, whatever is best for me and the baby...

diapers ? disposable

babywearing? I loved doing this with DS and will definately do it with DD. We have the front carrier and a sling type carrier someone gave us that I can't wait to try!

Welcome, Jacob!!

Are you planning to go back to work? How soon? SAHM
Are you planning to breastfeed? Yep - about a year, like last time, supplemented with formula during the day for the second half of the year (breastfeeding in the morning and evening).
Are you planning to co-sleep? Only on the rough nights.
Are you planning to vaccinate? Yep. Had no problems last time and have a very healthy, happy, smart little kid.
Are you planning to circumcise a boy?Yep.
Where are you planning to give birth? (ie home, FSBC, hospital)Hospital, with midwife.
What's in your birth plan? Dim lights (for baby) No medication for me unless specifically requested - basically the midwife team does everything the way I'd request anyway.
Cloth or disposible diapers (or other!) Disposable. I heard the chemicals the diaper service uses to clean the diapers is just as bad for the environment as disposable diapers. Who knows if it's true, but I'll take it as truth just because I think disposable is much more convenient and sanitary (just because I'm a clutz).
Do you plan to wear baby? Had troubles getting sling or baby carrier comfortable last time, but I'll try again (also have a toddler to chase after!).

So, since we have not heard any updates, I guess we can assume that Aletheia is probably having/had her baby now?? What about LMC? Haven't heard from her in a couple of days???

The excitement is getting to be too much, with everyone having babies!! I wish it were my turn!

Back when we first got preggo, I jokingly said to Dh that the baby would be born on Aug. 28th. He said, well, I was thinking it would be a Monday. Hmmm. tomorrow is Aug 28 & a Monday - maybe it will be our day???? ;)

Welcome to the world Jacob!!!

I can't believe how fast the babies are coming now. Doesn't it seem like we just got our BFP's? At least that's what it feels like to me. I go to the dr tomorrow and hopefully I will be induced on Tuesday.
Roadrunner ~ It's funny, I said from day 1 that the baby would be born on Aug 29th. Ya just never know!!

from my journal-

He's here! Oliver Rudy was born after about 10 hours in labor, and 20 minutes of pushing, and no medication! He was 7.12 and 22 inches? long. I had a 2nd degree tear and a tiny 3rd degree one-- hard to avoid after such a fast labor.

He's beautiful.
My boobs are doing their job.
My husband is fantastic, amazing, splendiferous, and the best labor coach that ever was. Period. Hands down.

And Ovi is a mini-DH down to even the earlobes. I am the luckiest woman alive.

The cat, however, is unhappy about the situation.

More later. Must eat, pee, sleep. Ovi is fed, diapered, swaddled, and back in his bassinet.

Thanks for the love here!

Rosegarden Congratulations! Welcome to the world baby Cameron!

Aletheia Congratulations! Welcome Oliver! Wow, no meds? You rock girl!!!

Roadrunner Good luck! Sending you vibes for a quick labor!

MSH I'm with you. I am very excited, but still have those annoying little doubts about being ready...

I can't believe there are so many babies already, and here I am sitting at work. Ugh! I can hardly keep my eyes open for the first couple of hours I'm here. Thank goodness its going to be labor day weekend (ha, wonder if any of us will actually deliver on labor day!). I could use three mornings in a row to sleep in.

I did manage to get all baby stuffed washed yesturday, and got my hospital bag mostly packed. Guess we are about as ready as we will be. Now its just the waiting game. I do have a feeling that I'm going to be late, though... guess we'll have to see.

Have a great day ladies!

Speedy, easy, healthy labor vibes to you, Roadrunner!

Batgirl - I hear ya! I have another week of work to go! I am beginning to see why women want to be induced. I'm not emotionally ready for this baby yet, but the symptoms are racking up and making me prtetty uncomfortable. My hands hurt now. Like, gripping the steering wheel isn't easy.

DH was "nesting" last night - so cute! He got so much done! Crib and stroller and playpen and Baby Papasan are all put together - he even put up the Yankees mobile on the crib!

First of all contratulations Aletheia, welcome to the world Oliver and good luck Roadrunner… man we are in a roll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't wait to read all the birth stories, this is so exciting.

As for us, this baby is very comfortable in mommy's womb, so I really think he does not have plans to come anytime soon, we will see what the dr says tomorrow. Regardless of what the status is we are going to decide on a induction date (definitely next week but it will depend on when is he on call), DH is freaking out because he wants this baby out before my parents come on Friday. I think he is just overwhelm with the idea of everyone in the hospital, whereas it would only be the two of us if he would be born before then. Either way I keep telling him that baby B is on his own 'schedule' and he will come whenever he is ready, it doesn't matter how many times a week he cooks eggplant for me, feeds me pineapple, go for walks or even DTD, the poor guy is in a mission and really wants him out ASAP, I just think is funny LOL

Aletheia Congratulations and welcome to the world Oliver!! You are my hero for going pain med free!!

This has really turned into a late August babies thread but I am concerned that I won't have mine until October! I don't know why, I just have a strong feeling that he will be overdue by at least a week.

I can't remember who suggested contacting the manufacturer on my crib bedding when I shrunk the crib skirt, but they e-mailed me back this morning and will be sending a replacement! Yay. I will not be washing this one just in case...

We went to my BIL's engagement party on Saturday - got a few comments about how small I look for being a month away - I love that, even though it is so not true. :)

Our Bradley classes are wrapping up with the last one being held next week. I need to get off my duff at night and start doing my exercises so I can follow Aletheia's lead of no pain meds.

Ok, apparently I'm a complete moron. Help me out here:

Baby bedding -

Bumper rests on top of the crib, right? Ties on top and bottom, and it'll be removed as soon as baby can pull up to prevent them from using it as a step to jump out of the crib.

But, if the bumper rests on top of the mattress, it's too high to use the drop side with the mattress in the highest position. But, will I need the drop side when baby is that little? Probably not, it can just stay up all the time.

If the bumper is on top of the mattress, how the heck do you change the sheets?

One side of the bumper is solid gingham, the other has cute little teddy bear faces periodically. Which side faces out? Seems like the gingham side should be in, but then the little bear faces are imprisoned by the crib bars.

Grrrr... and I didn't even pick this thing out! It was a gift!

I do believe I am over thinking this!

Welcome Jacob, Cameron and Oliver!

:D

This is soooo exciting!!

{b} I think we're taking off the bumpers completely once she's in the crib. (We're using a bassinet at first) I've heard they're just another increased chance for SIDS. They do make mesh bumpers that are very ventilated that prevent them from sticking arms and legs through, so we may go for those when she starts moving on her own.

Are you planning to go back to work? How soon? Yes, for part-time/flex-time/work from home. Haven't hammered out the details yet, but it won't be until January.
Are you planning to breastfeed? Yes. For a year, but I might supplement after 6 months.
Are you planning to co-sleep? Not if we can help it.
Are you planning to vaccinate? Yes.
Are you planning to circumcise a boy? Don't have to worry about that, but we probably would.
Where are you planning to give birth? At the hospital.
What's in your birth plan? I want to go drug-free if I can take it, but I'll take the epidural if it's really bad.
Cloth or disposible diapers (or other!) Disposable.
Do you plan to wear baby? Yes, I have the SlingRider, but I think I'm ordering another sling this week.

I feel like I've been riding a bicycle or I've been kicked in the crotch really hard. LOTS of pressure on that area lately. I can barely walk after sitting down for a while!

I'm happy to report that this WILL be my last week of work. I may come in next week on Tuesday for half a day to wrap stuff up. Looking forward to getting some rest and relaxing before the baby comes!

We got the nursery almost completely pulled together this weekend. MIL is helping me wash some clothes this coming weekend and put a few more things away, I may put together a few meals that can be frozen ahead of time so we're not relying on fast food once we get home from the hospital.

I can't believe how close it is!!

{B} - RE: Bumpers...I still use ours (DD is 17 months). She likes to cuddle with them, so I felt bad taking them out. They are really soft, so even if she tried to stand on them, they would squish down completely anyway.

It is a PITA to change sheets unless you take the bumper off (which in itself is a PITA). I ended up buying a second bumper so I could change sheets & bumper together.

The gingham probably goes on the inside. I have lambs on mine, and the lambs are on the outside.

Welcome Jacob, Cameron & Oliver!!! Good luck roadrunner!!

Going to the hospital TONIGHT at 10 pm to start the induction  :D :o
I started crying when I got into my car after my appt. This is my DS's last day as an only child. Last night will be the last night I coslept as a pregnant woman with my firstborn. My dh was laughing at me. He said I complained to no end for the last 4-6 weeks and now that the day is finally here I'm sad. I'm not sad that my pg is come to an end, I'm sad because it's an end of an era for our family. I'm so excited for the next chapter of our lives to begin yet I cannot help thinking back to how we felt at this point 3 years ago when parenthood was such an unknown.

congrats rosegarden and welcome cameron!

welcome oliver (love that name) and congrats aletheia on achieving your med-free birth.
can't wait to hear all the birth stories!

{b} i don't think you'll need to use the drop side in the highest postion. we also never took out the bumpers either, i think you'll know later on if your kid is a climber and you need to take them out or not. my dd just climbed out of her crib for the first time at 26 mos. changing crib sheets -- imo, it's one of the most pita things to do, i was shocked at how hard it is. in our crib you had to untie and remove the bumpers and then pull out the whole mattress b/c it would kill my fingers to try and pull the sheets down with the mattress being so snug. i use these sheets now and it's so much easier. http://store.babycenter.com/product/furniture_bedding/bedding_blankets/basic_crib_bedding/6535?stage=
i'd probably put the bears on the inside.

{b}: we are not using crib bumpers. The risk of SIDS outweighs that of the baby bonking himself on the slats, imnsho.

Diapers: disposable.

Babywearing: we have a Bjorn.

****

I finished reading "What to Expect..." and "The Everything Pregnancy Book" this weekend.

I was very productive on Saturday in terms of errands. I went to the Christmas Tree Shop and found 6 inch high wicker baskets for $1.99 each (to put diaper stuff in on the 2nd shelf of the changing table) and a black shelf for Fasolaki's stuffies for $6.99. I also scored some of our favorite St Ives body wash for $1.99 each (it's usually $2.99 at Target). I also poked around at the Sears outlet, pricing freezers. We are considering buying one to put in our basement for food & breastmilk storage.

I then went to Target and although I did not find a black nursing bra (I really like the white one I got there; I'm not even sure if they make it in black), I did buy 2 maternity/nursing tanks, a small set of plastic drawers (for diapers & changes of clothes downstairs so I don't have to bring the boy upstairs every time; I can just change him on the Pack-n-Play changing table), and some presents for my co-worker K. She is due in December (before I get back from leave) and I plan to bestow upon her the baby basket that my friend J gave me at my shower, chock full of goodies.

You could say I shopped 'til I dropped, because boy was I tired when I got home! ;)

Yesterday my hip hurt so bad I could barely put any weight on it. After brunch, I sat on one of the recliners in the library with the lavender cat that my friend G gave me. It's a stuffed cat that you stick in the microwave to warm up. The heat and lavender really helped and I was able to assist Dionysios in setting up the bouncy seat, swing, & Pack-n-Play. Coincidentally, the bouncy seat is the green of the nursery and blue.

3 weeks to go! (give or take!) My next appointment is Friday.

I am going to try to get my birth story hashed out here while babes is in pnp.

So Tuesday the guy was installing our dishwasher and I knew I wanted to get out of the house to avoid chasing DS all over the whole day.
I asked Dad if we could hang with him and he was going to be at the lake house working on his bathroom remodel.
So I called him tuesday 7:45am to see if he wanted to meet for breakfast first. So we met at 830am and I felt like I had one constant cramp- like I just couldn't lean forward in my chair to eat or anything- but hey I was getting bigger.

So from there dad went to Menards for his stuff and I ran home to get the ceiling fan I needed to return there and met him.
I returned the fan and walked around the store pushing Ds in a cart. I bought a wedding card ( wierd huh) and floor cleaner then I found a sand/water table with an umbrella ( soooo cute) and I needed dad to get it in the cart.
I went to the bathroom and my undies were damp- but I dismissed it.
Then I went again before check out and thought0 you know- I am GBS +- I shouldn't ignore this.
So I said to dad " Now Do not freak out, but I think my water broke."
He freaked. I called Jack ( my phone is almost dead too) asked him to look in my book to see what it had to say- and he was so flustered he couldn't find anything. So i told him I would call back after check out. I asked dad after telling him what I saw if this was it- He was like " HOW WOULD I KNOW?" Well he had two kids and mom's water broke with us. So....
We get to the car and load up- i call home on dad's phone to get the ob number. I call and they tell me to come in.
So I follow dad to his house he drops his car- and drives me 45 mins to my ob office.
I call Jack and tell him that we will call to update him- no worries.

So on the ride I do the bills and make a list of things that jack has to do that I thought I had time to do.
I get to the office and am afraid to sit in their chairs- what if I gush?
My ob is out of town so I see his partner who is a very aggressive yet nice woman even though she barks at her nurse. ( the whole ride up - contrax were 2-3 mins apart)
I am mucousy she says- and 3-4 cm- so let's break my water and do this.
So we walk over to hosp to get going. But before this Doc comes out and says- you know what- let's just monitor you in L&D.
Ok- call Jack tell him to come.
Get to L&D and minutes later- Doc is in and says nope- you are leaking water since she checked under microscope.
So they break my water at 1 ish and I get an epi- and it sets in I get a catherter and start pushing and bam- baby in 2 hours total!

EASY! No worries!

GOOD LUCK tonight DOTSIE!!!

Congrats LMC!!

Good luck, Rosegarden!

Congrats Aletheia! Welcome Oliver! Now that's the kind of labor I'm talking about! :) Awesome the pushing went so fast ... awesome that you didn't have any meds (although with a 2nd and 3rd degree tear that must have hurt!?) ... did the 10 hrs of labor hurt or do you honestly feel that the contractions were bearable?

I think (hope) I'm caught up on the rest of my congrats. This is so exciting! I'm so glad everyone is posting all the good news about their babies and keeping us up-to-date!

Ocgatita - I'll be next! I'll be next!! :) I think Camdynlyn would also like to take that title!

2jacks & Glamourmom Tanks - I totally meant to post in here about these tanks a week or 2 ago and totally forgot ... but what else is new?

I also bought 2 GM tanks and I found that only the maternity nursing tank fit well. I ordered an XL in both, even though the size they said I should order was borderline M/L. The regular/original nursing tank is very short. I think even when I don't have a belly, it will be too short for my preference. I don't even think it will hit my hips. Regardless, it's *very* tight and small all around (chest included and it hasn't grown much ... wonder how tight it will be after giving birth!?). I'm sure the majority of us could not wear this for a few weeks after giving birth. We'd have to lose some (or a lot) of weight first and not grow in the boob section. Also, wanted to say that the new maternity nursing one fit very well. Long enough, not too tight, etc. I would recommend that you girls buy this one over the regular one if you want to wear it at the hospital and shortly after having your baby. Hope that helps!
