I know that it is not uncommon to have cramping after an IUI the day of, but I had my IUI was Friday and I am in terrible pain today (Monday). It feels like cramps times 10. I have a call into the Dr., but I wanted to see if anyone else has had this experience. I have taken my temp and it is normal so I don't think there is an infection....The cramps are not like period cramps they are more in the lower abdominal area and it feels like a dull empty ache (not sure if that helps.)
Thoughts anyone?

I would definitely call your RE. I had 5 IUIs and never had cramping for more than a day.
Have they gotten worse since Friday? What you're describing sounds more like cramping from either the medications or cysts. Were you on injectibles? Cramping like that is more common with them. Have you had any symptoms of OHSS? It's also possible that there are one or more follicles that didn't go during ovulation, and those are now considered cysts & are possibly growing. Just a few ideas, but your RE should be able to help you figure out what's going on. Sorry to hear about your pain. :(

Hi Scooter - thanks for the reply. Yes, I was on injectibles - 225 of the flostim pen then the trigger shot 36 prior to the IUI. I didn't have any pain the day of the IUI, only today. I took 2 Tylenol and it has lessened at bit. I am just a little freaked out because I had 1 IUI before and not pain whatsoever.
OHSS - I'm sorry, I'm not sure what that refers to.
If the follicles didn't go at ovulation and are now considered cysts does that compromise the IUI?

Dull aching & soreness is much mroe common with injectibles, so chances are good it's from that and not related to the IUI. Were you on Follistim for your last IUI?
OHSS is Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome. I'm surprised your RE didn't discuss it all all with you--when you're on injectibles it's important to watch for the symptoms. It's basically when your ovaries overrespond to the medications, causing too many follicles. But even just 2 follicles can produce some symptoms, like a lot of bloating & some mild discomfort around the ovaries area. I was just wondering if you'd had a mild case of OHSS, because that could explain the way you're feeling now. But then, like my RE told me, if ovulating one egg is normal for you, causing you to ovulate more than that is always a case of overstimulation for your body. ;) So it can produce side effects on your body even if it's not considered medically OHSS, if you see what I mean.
Cysts are very common with these medications. Actually, the follicles are a type of cyst themselves, so that word doesn't necessarily mean something bad. 1 out of every 4 clomid cycles results in cysts, and 1 out of every 2 injectibles cycles results in cysts. I actually had one about 3cm big after my injectibles cycle, and I can speak from experience that it doesn't hurt the IUI's chances--that's the cycle that gave me my DD. :D

I had horrible cramping/bloating when I had (minor) OHSS. Definitely worth a call to your RE.
