Random long period? Anyone??

I've always had long cycles & I'm no stranger to some menstrual issues. Since having my son, though, my cycles have stabilized at about 4.5 -5 weeks in length, w/about a 5-7 day period. I've been very grateful for this predictabiliy.

This cycle, however, my period began right around when I expected it (maybe a day late), but it lasted 10 days, disappeared for 2 days, then returned today (pretty moderately; not just spotting).

Has anyone had a random long period like this? Or any idea why? It is just one of those fluke-y things??

i would call your dr just to have it checked out.

I agree with kiki...call the doctor just to check.

My periods are usually the same length, but I spot for a good 3 to 4 days before I get my period. And then it only lasts for a couple of days.

I once had my period for almost a month straight. It started out normal, lasted about 7 days instead of 5, went away for 2 days, came back for a few, went away for a few.... After a month of not knowing when I would spontaneously have heavy bleeding I called my dr. He gave me some pills to stop the bleeding and said "sometimes that just happens." I don't know how long it would have lasted without the pills though.

Did you just get on birth control? That's the only time I remember getting something like that. I would get what seemed like 2 periods in one month (regular bleeding) with a week break in-between and spotting for a few cycles until everything regulated itself, big PITA!

It wouldn't hurt to call my doctor. It's been 2 weeks now!

I was on the pill for 10 years, but went off 5 years ago & nothing else has changed recently.
