View Full Version : I got a C on my midterm...

:( I just posted this in my LJ, but I'm almost in tears right now, so I was hoping that you gals could give me some support on this :(

I just got my midterm grad back from my RIC tax class. I got a 70 on my midterm. Seriously - that is the worst grade I've ever received in a class that relates to accounting/business/taxes. Besides the fact that I want to start hyperventilating over THAT fact....I need at least a 73 to get reimbursed for the class.

The midterm is worth 28% of my final grade. I need at least an 80 on my final in order to get a C.

Breathe. I just need to breathe. It's all going to be okay, right? It's really dumb to get teary over this, right? I'm going to get what I need to in order to be reimbursed AND so that my GPA doesn't take a huge hit, right? (I currently have a 3.8) I'm 4 classes in out of 10 - if this is the class I do the worst in I should be okay GPA wise.

I don't do RIC taxes. Sigh.

eta: I'm getting my Master's in Tax right now.

Sorry, Beth. I know how frustrating it is to get a lower than expected grade. :(

Thanks Lynds :( I feel like a big dummy right now - and even sillier that at 28 years old I'm crying over getting a 70. I know I'll do okay on the final - he will go over what is on it and you bet that I'll be studying furiously.

I talk a good game (saying "Oh I don't care, as long as I get a C") but in reality I have such a hard time with getting anything less than a perfect grade.

You're not a dummy. You don't even do RIC tax.

(say that last sentence like, "I wasn't even supposed to be here today," a la Dante in Clerks)

LOL, thanks I needed that laugh. Tim isn't home right now, and the dogs are pretty much just giving me kisses - while it makes me feel better, they weren't making me giggle ;)

Okay, now that I've calmed down a bit, I realized that I mis-read my prof's email....my midterm was 40% of my final grade, my final is 50% and class participation is 10%. So, while the midterm grade isn't fantastic...I could still quite possibly get a B+ in the class if I get full credit for participation (feasible) and I ace the final (probably a stretch, but we'll see.)

A "B" or a "B-" is certainly do-able at this point. Sigh.

It's going to be OK. I remember when I got a C in torts and cried my eyes out. It was a terrible feeling. I thought it meant I was doomed to graduate at the bottom of my class, but I was wrong. You can still do great, even with bad grade.

I don't know if this is helpful in that type of class, but you might want to go to your prof and ask if you can over the exam (if an answer key isn't provided), just to see what you did wrong and how you could improve.

Hi Keska - Thanks for the reassurance. This working full time and classes part time is a lot harder than I thought it was going to be  Sometimes I wish that HS and even college hadn't come so easily to me - the fact that these classes are pretty challenging is new for me! Seriously, I think I probably spent maybe a few hours preparing for exams in college...and I could whip out a paper in a day. Man, those were the days!!!

He is actually going to review the exam in class next week, so I will definitely see where I went wrong and how I can prepare better for the final. :D
