Okay, so this may be a weird question, but it's recently popped into my head, and I'm trying to find any reason possible as to why we're not pregnant yet. We've been trying for almost a year, (in October) and I have never been pregnant.

Once in awhile, DH will get swollen lymph nodes on his groin area. I've been trying to do some research on them, but basically only came up with a scientific name for the lymph node, and no answers to the questions I have. The name I found for the lymph node in the area that gets swollen on DH is Superolateral Superficial Inguinal Lymph Node.

I'm wondering if this can effect his fertility in anyway? I can't find anything online, so if someone knows of anything, please direct me to it....

Could it be putting pressure on a important tube? Could it be discreeting somthing that's killing sperm? I have no idea, honestly. I thought maybe someone would have an idea.

He had fathered a child in a previous relationship, but I'm not sure if the lymph node issue came up before or after she was conceived. Since it was almost 5 years ago, he's not sure either.

I know we should probably just get it checked out, but it's not swollen right now, so can docs do testing on it?

TIA!

I'm not sure if that can cause male infertility but your DH can definitely go in to see his doc, ask him about it and have a sperm sample taken. They can analyze that and let him know if his sperm count is where it should be and if the sperm are mobile enough to be effective. Even if your DH had a child, the sperm count can do down for various reasons. If that's the case, many can be fixed with a simple surgery (as was the case with my DH's brother. He had a variocole and a simple surgery and boom! They got pg right away). In the case of my DH, we had gotten pg once and after we were having problems getting pg a second time, he went in to get tested (since my doc suggested starting with him because it's less envasive and less expensive) and we found out that he has unexplained infertility. For one reason or another his sperm count went wayyyy down (almost nonexistent) and there's no physical explanation for it.

Well, there is such a thing as having a bacteria present in the semen that can cause infertility. If it's enough for the body to respond to, a swollen lymph gland would make sense. But then, I'm no Dr & we didn't face this particular issue, so I don't have the specifics. However, IIRC this is usually treated with a round of antibiotics and can clear up afterwards.

If you're concerned, you can always have him go to his Dr & request a Semen Analysis. If you two get tested at the year mark it's going to be one of the very first tests ordered, anyway, so may as well get it out of the way & rule this out all at once. ;)
