Wanted to give a little update on little Jacob....
Had his dr's appt yesterday and is up to 8lbs 13oz (gained the 7oz he lost after birth plus an oz!) and his heart murmur is gone! He sleeps like a champ (4-5 hours/night) and is breastfeeding wonderfully. Wanted to share a picture we took of him in his swing today :)

I think labor may be starting. I woke up at 1:30 am with menstrual like cramping during a contraction. It wasn't extremely painful, but the most pain I have felt so far. (not including the stomach bug I had a couple weeks ago)
I spent about 3 hours trying to sleep, having really irregular painful contractions. (10-30 minutes apart) I dozed in an out of sleep. Around 5 I went pee and noticed I am bleeding. It's not the MP, just plain old blood.
So my alarm is set to go off in 45 minutes. My contractions are about 10 minutes apart and painful, but not so painful I can't stand them. With the bleeding I am not sure if labor is guaranteed to start soon, if it has started already, or if it is just another teaser to make me crazy. All I can think to do is go about my day as normal... go to work, etc. At work I am closer to DH and the hospital than at home.
I have very mixed feelings... scared, excited, nervous.... I will try to update when I can. Tomorrow is my EDD. I guess it's about time for this baby to be born anyways!

Quick update:
I never made it to work today. My sister convinced me to call my dr's office about the bleeding so I did. They told me to go to l&d to be checked. When I got there I was 2cm dialated and contractions were mildly painful and 15-20 minutes apart. They told me to walk for an hour so I did. After that I was 3cm dialated. Both times the nurse checked me she "removed" pretty big chunks of my mucous plug.
They told us to go out for the day and walk around and to come back when the contractions got closer together and stronger. Ever since we left they have been 10 minutes apart and VERY painful. As of now they are more like 6-7 minutes apart, but very, very painful. We were going to stay in the town where the hospital is and walk until it was time to go back, but I was worried it would take too long. So we came home. We got here about 1/2 hour ago and are relaxing. After I finish writing this I am going to get the last of our stuff together. I am in a lot of pain and I can't imagine this not meaning anything.
We are both excited. It would make so much sense for Tristan to be born on his EDD! That is so us!
Wish us luck! I hope this is it!

good luck michellerenee!
Congratulations hmdelf & welcome Connor.
Congratulations lawgirl and welcome to your DD.
Congratulations Michelle and welcome Madison.
Congratulations SlvrSpring and welcome Jack.
Good luck Michelle Renee!
DD and I are doing really well. I bought the Sling Rider for her on Tuesday and she loves being in it. No more "fussy" time in the evenings since we got it. I was a little worried yesterday though because the only place she would sleep last night was in her sling. DH got her out of it around 3:30am without any tears and she slept for another 3 hours straight in her crib. DD hasn't had any of her naps in her crib today, but is sleeping in her swing wrapped in the sling right now. :)
Nasal Congestion - Do any of your DC have nasal congestion? DD has had it off and on since birth and the ped. says that it's normal and should go away by 2 months when babies are able to breath through their mouths too. We're using saline drops, a humidifier, and inclined sleeping to help her and it does seem to be working, but I feel so bad. I hope it does go away in the next few weeks.

Jack is one week old today!! I can't believe it.
I too, like you, Maplekitty, am co-sleeping and never thought I would be. It just works so well for BFing and gives both DH and I such peace of mind with him so close.
I am really feeling the pain from my episiotomy these past couple of days.... I am thinking it is just healing. Did anyone else have to get an episiotomy and when did it start feeling better?
BTW- Good luck MichelleRenee--I hope this is it for you!!!
Here are some photos of Jack (sorry it took me so long to get around to it.)

I feel so lucky because Jack is a really good baby. Only cries/fussies when he hungry, cold or needs to be changed. He does have explosive poops though! And he never burps, only farts to release gas. It is rather funny.
I just love him so much and can't believe he belongs to us--I just stare at him in amazement that we created such a beautiful little boy.
Well, have a good night all!!!

Well, I am back home without a baby.:( I just wrote the whole thing in my journal, but here's the short version.
Contractions have been 5 minutes apart for more than 6 hours now. After the first hour we went back to the hospital. I was still 3 cm. After 2.5 hours of monitoring I was still 3 cm so they sent me home. The contractions are SO painful. I have never experienced anything like it before. And here I am waiting for them to get even WORSE so I can go back and have my baby.
I am mostly just scared now because I can't imagine pain worse than this, but apparantly it has to get worse if I want to have this baby. Wish us luck. I see a looooong night ahead....

Oh, Michelle, I'm so sorry that they sent you home. :( Contractions are no fun, that's for sure! I hope you got some sleep and that you're closer to going back in to the hospital.
Don't be scared. Just relax and let your body do it's work ;) That beautiful baby is soooo worth it in the end. Good luck.

Looks like I'm in the overdue club now, but I always thought I would be so I'm ok with it I guess. :) Had my OB appt and NST yesterday, and everything is looking good. I'm slightly more dialated (not quite 2cm) and mostly effaced now.
Next OB appt is 10/30
I'll be scheduling an induction for the end of next week if he doesn't come out beforehand. My cervix looks favorable, so hopefully it won't take much if it comes to that. At least the end is in sight!
MichelleRenee Good luck to you, hopefully it won't get more painful, only more effective! :D
Hey ladies!
Just checking in. Hope everyone is doing well.
Michellerenee--- good luck and sending you easy labor vibes.
Lily--- DS is about 5wks old and had the congestion since he was 1 1/2 wk old. I wish it would just go away, but I was told that it takes some times for some children. He has so much mucus buildup that it comes out through his mouth sometimes. If only I could cough it out for him! We even went to see an ENT doc to make sure that there was no blockage. TG all was clear!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, I think that DS is constipated. He hasn't had a BM since Tuesday.:confused: I think that it's prob because of the formula that I gave him last week to supplement the BF. He is so gassy now!
Are you having the lumpy hardness above the incision and the leaking too?
I went to the doc yesterday, and she said the hardness is a build up of serum in the fatty tissue. This happens quite frequently with incision in fatty tissue, like the stoamch and breasts.
What she did was actually push on the hardness and "drained" it. It was quite gross, but felt much better afterwards! She said to do that every day until it's gone.
maplekittyYup - I have lumps above the incision and every so often, it oozes on its own. The first day that it opened, the thing drained for an hour, but now it's only 10 minutes or so before I can cover it up again. I'm just happy that when all the crap drained out, my fevers went away, too. Hopefully the infection stays away since I am actually starting to feel better!
I wanted to chime in here. It's normal for newborns not to have BM everyday. My doc said that newborns can go up to 5 days (my DD went 3 days.) His GI system is still developing.
Our town's Pumpkin Festival was today with a costume parade contest for the kids, and DD and DS were soooo cute. I got their costumes from Babystyle--DD was a princess and DS was a peapod (the Princess and the Pea). DS did much better than I expected, although he did finally have enough and we had to leave before they announced the winners. They both had their pictures taken by the town paper's photographer, so maybe they'll make it in. It was way more stressful than last year with just DD, though!
Nasal Congestion--It's awful! We have a humidifier set up and my mom tried to use the nasal aspirator on him, but it's still pretty bad. For those who incline the baby--do you use a sleep wedge or something else??
_____________________
Ben has really been out and about lately. Definitely geting shown off. We have gotten a package and multiple cards in the mail everyday since his birth--how is everyone keeping up on thank you's? I'm not doing so hot!
Today he seems to have an upset tummy. He is excessively spitting up/almost puking. I posted more in the Parenting 0-18 month forum. If you have any thoughts on the situation, let me know!
We also had our first pro pics done. We bought him a little Halloween outfit (not a costume, just outfit). It took 2 hours to get out of the house! Oy! Then, he was wide awake until TWO MINUTES before his turn and then he fell asleep so well that even cold hands, water, and a feather couldn't wake him up. So his first pro pics are of his head slumped over while he's asleep!! Oh well. He'll be older for Xmas and family pics, so that's good.
Anyways, he needs a diaper change and it's hard to type with him in my lap, so I'm outtie. Good luck to those who are still waiting!!
Thanks for the info. I will ask the peds tomorrow at his next visit. I gave him a glycerin supp as suggested by one of the peds and it worked within 5 mins, but nothing since. I don't want to keep using the supp, so I will wait until tomorow.
x-posted from my journal:
Thank you so much, everyone! The past few days were exhausting and exciting and our little boy is finally here!!
Thursday I went to the birthing center twice. The first time was to see if I was leaking fluid. I was 2 cm when I got there and 3 cm after walking for an hour. After that They sent me home, but painful contractions started. By that evening they were 5 minutes apart and pretty painful so we went back. After 3 hours I was still only 3 cm so they sent me home and told me to come back when they were stronger and closer.
As Thursday night went on the contractions got SO strong, but were 10 minutes apart. I was up all night and in tears thinking that if that wasn't real labor I would not survive "real labor."
I had an appt Friday morning at 10:45. I called the office around 8 in tears because my contractions hurt SO bad, but were still 10 minutes apart. They told me to come in as soon as I could. From leaving the house to getting into the exam room took about 1/2 hour and I had about 6-7 BAD contractions in that time. When we left the house I was hysterical. I was bawling saying that they were just gonna send us home anyways and we might as well leave the suitcase at home. Mike was a very good husband and helped keep me calm.
So, the dr finally checked my cervix and I was 5 cm. I was elated and terrified at this point. We were sent straight to l&d but now I was scared... this was it.
As soon as I got there I told them I wanted my epidural. Within 20 minutes the dr came in for that and it was done. The numbing needle hurt but was nothing compared to the contractions. It kicked in right away and I was in heaven. After 24 hours of painful-REALLY painful contractions I finally had relief!!
After that is a bit of a blur. I was checked and was 7 cm. Then they said in an hour I would get Pitocin if I hadn't dilated much more. An hour later they checked me and I was 10 cm! My sister hadn't arrived yet. She was stuck in traffic on her way home from school. I didn't have the urge to puch though so they let me wait until I did. They did end up giving me the Pitocin because my contractions still weren't close enough together. They also turned off my epidural because my right leg was completely numb.
So I started pushing and it was OK. It felt kinda good and empowering, but it also ached on one side. (my cervix) It was around 5 and I said I wanted to be done by 7 to watch Gilmore Girls. (the old one on ABC Family) King of Queens was on during the pushing and between pushes we all (dr and nurses too) watched and laughed.
I continued to push. Everyone said I did a really good job. IT wasn't hard like I thought it would be, but it was scary. It is hard to push hard when you know it means the baby will come out. As much as I wanted him out I was scared!
Finally at 6:37 pm I gave 4 good pushes and he was out and he was perfect!! 7 pounds, 8 ounces, 20 inches and 100% boy. He has the perfect amount of hair and his head is already nice and round.
I didn't sleep that night at all just out of joy and pain. I was glad for the Motrin and Percocet. Especially when BFing. Tristan is a very good latcher and sucks very hard so BFing is a little painful and it makes my uterus contract which also hurts.
Mike is completely in love. I have to wrestle the baby away to feed him. Tristan had about 12 poopy diapers while in the hospital and Mike changed most of them.
Today we were discharged around 1 and are finally home. I do have pics but I don't have time to upload them. Tristan is awake and I am feeling good so we are gonna bond a little. Life is good... I finally have my baby!!
BTW... our hospital has a website with a picture of him. www.medinahospital.org
Nasal Congestion - Easton has been congested since about 3 weeks. Doctor said it's common and I also read it is, until babies are about 2 months old.
Incling the bed - I have a leftover sheet from our bed (queen) that I have all folded and under his basinett mattress, it adds enough inclune that Easton doesn't slide too much, yet helps with the congestion
------------------------------------------
We have dealt all day with a bit of a fussy boy. Believe he was constipated, although he pooped yesterday. He just seemed to never find something to make himself happy, he finally pooped tonight and hasn't been fussy now. He didn't even want to eat much, he had been eating 3.5-4oz a feeding, every 4 hours, but last night through most of today he would only eat 1-2oz at a time every 3 hours
Still pregnant, somehow. Saturday early morning lots more mucus plug came out, this time streaked pink, so that was my first bloody show. (Thought this meant I'd go into labor over the weekend, but I guess not.) I've been losing more mucus with and without blood ever since then. My next appt is this afternoon, and I'm thinking that this means I've *got* to be more dialated at least. Trying to not be impatient, but I'm certainly ready to get this show on the road!
Congrats MichelleRenee! Tristan is a beautiful little boy! :D
Midwestern - We put a phonebook under DD's crib mattress for incline. It seems to be helping.
DD and I are doing great! I can't believe she's already 5 weeks old as of today. She is so long that some of her sleepers don't fit anymore. We're also moving out of newborn diapers and into Pampers size 1. I'm hoping to go to our first Mom's group this Friday. It's in the morning though so we'll see how we feel.
I posted this in the BF'ing thread, but thought I'd come looking for sympathy here too. :) I'm going to give DS Alimentum for a few days to see if it'll help make him a happier baby (and me a saner mommy). I will keep pumping in case it doesn't work then I'll go back to BF'ing. I thought things were getting better, but we've had another few really bad days and DH and I are at the end of our ropes. It takes a tremendous effort to get him to sleep (swaddling, patting, rocking, and white noise for 20-30 minutes), he constantly needs to be held and doesn't like the sling/bjorn, he wants to nurse every hour for an hour. He's been up every 1-2 hours at night, actually 2 hours makes me happy! And to even get that long he has to sleep with us and frequently be patted b/c he starts grunting and writhing around and will wake up if he's not patted. I have 2 weeks till I go back to work and can't imagine doing it with this little sleep. I actually want to go back now to get a break from him.
We've done everything else we can think of to do, including Prevacid for reflux, and nothing makes a difference. I know if it's colic it should go away, but I can't handle another 6 weeks of this. I BF'ed DD for 13 months with no formula, and couldn't imagine I wouldn't be able to do it again, but he is a very different baby than she is. And this isn't the 6 week growth spurt, he's been this way the whole time.
Of course as I type this, he's sleeping in his swing. :rolleyes: Sorry about the vent!
Everything looked the same yesterday. I was having some painful false labor last night, so I didn't sleep well. But, I'm taking today off work because my induction is scheduled for early tomorrow. Oh, jbemommy I'm sorry things aren't going so well. I can empathize. Logan isn't CONSTANTLY like that, but he will have a stretch of a few days to a week where he will be like that, and I (guiltily) question why I ever had a child. But, then he smiles at me or coos (or we surprisingly have a good day) and then I almost forget about the rough patches. DH was joking with our little man the other day that "thanks to you, mommy thinks you won't ever be getting a little brother or sister". :o
I had my 6 week pp appointment today with my doc. She said everything looks fine, we discussed birth control again (checking in to whether my insurance covers the $$$$ IUD), and she said that she wants to see me again in 2 weeks if I feel like my mood and mood swings have not improved.
I just wanted to check in and let everyone knwo we are doing well. I have updated my journal a few times but I don't seem to make it past there very easily.
Tristan is doing well. Having him here is a huge adjustment, but I think that's a given. We are all adjusting pretty well. It took awhile to figure out our sleeping situation. As it turns out we all get the most sleep and are most comfy with Tristan just sleeping in his crib. We had intended to cosleep. Last night in his crib he slept 9 hours, waking up every 2-2.5 hours to feed. I was able to go back to bed between feedings. Even though my sleep was interrupted I still got more sleep last night than I have in a long time.
Breastfeeding is easier than I thought it would be. It is still a little painful and it is hard being the only person who can feed him, but I have tons of milk and he's a great feeder. I started pumping today and already have 2 feeding's worth of milk stored. I'm not sure how we will use it though. I had hoped to use part of it to let Mike do some of the feedings but I also want to build up a stash for when I go back to work and in case I end up having to stop BFing altogether.
The home nurse came this morning and she said Tristan looks great. He is already back to his birth weight, which surprised her. She said it takes most babies closer to 2 weeks to reach that. She had her scale out weighing him and he peed all over her. He pees like a toddler, she says. It just kept coming and coming! Luckily she was used to stuff like that. She had actually been one of my nurses at the hospital and was really nice.
Anyways, the biggest challenge so far has been avoiding PPD. I am at high risk for it and started meds to avoid it right after I had him. Right now my emotions are in a very normal range. I only get depressed and cry in the evening. The nurse said it is very normal to have patterns like that while my hormones level off.
I hope everyone else is enjoying their new babies as much as I am. Tristan is such a joy and I just love being a mommy. Lots of pics in my journal if anyone is interested....
He slept in his swing, but it's still an improvement. He was much better in general yesterday, much easier to put to sleep, less crying in the evening. We even went to the grocery store and didn't have any crying--he started fussing while waiting in line, but then fell asleep. I'm not ready to say it's the Alimentum yet, he's had a few good days before and then went back to his usual state. It's really a pain pumping, and I do miss BF'ing a lot. I think we'll do the Alimentum through the weekend and then try BF'ing again to see if he gets fussy again.
Someone asked what Alimentum is--it's a formula that with the proteins broken down for babies with food allergies. It's really stinky and expensive, but if it works, it'll be worth it.
Robyn wore her first dress last night at SIL's birthday dinner. As much as I love her being so little and snuggly, I can't wait for her to get bigger so I can start putting her cute outfits on her!
