Honestly, I am just so annoyed by strangers right now. I do everything I can to avoid questions: avoid eye contact, walk quickly when one is approaching, carry my purse in front of my belly (yeah, like that's gonna hide it!).... I have even taken stairs instead of the elevator to avoid riding with a bunch of people I don't know. It's not that I'm ashamed or not excited.... I just don't want to talk about it with strangers. It's inevitable that they will follow up your answers with their own pregnancy/birth stories, which are usually just the bad stories. Or they will say "oh, you'll definitely go into labor early" or something stupid like that and it makes me want to scream. How do they know I will go early? Because they think I look big? Are they a doctor? I guess I am just irritated that complete strangers think they know more about my pregnancy than I or my Dr do.
***end vent***
bunnybeth, I get the silent birth question from my DH's friends too!! It is a nice break from the usual questions. (but then they start in on the other stuff.... "are you gonna eat the placenta?" :rolleyes:

Its my due date today, and I've got a 15 day old baby snoozing on my lap :) I had my first post partum appointment yesterday, made me laugh that it was the day before I was due.
Good luck to all those having inductions in the near future! And good luck to everyone hoping to go into labour!

Hi All! Good luck to those who are being induced this week! I can't wait to hear about more arrivals!
Nesting has hit me full force! :) I have been cleaning like crazy! I've heard about the nesting phase, but I never thought it would hit me. Oh yeah, it's hit me hard. I'm literally cleaning every inch of the house. The longer Madison waits to arrive, the more cleaning I'll get done.
I hope that everybody is having a good day!

Back from my appt. No change. Had an NST, so at least I got to lay down for an hour. My OB wanted to schedule me for an induction - I said no thanks. She was OK with that as long as the baby continues to look good. Soooooo... if I'm still PG, my next appt is on 10/9 and will be a biophysical profile. My OB's absolute drop-dead date for an induction is 10/15, so I guess technically, that's when I'll be scheduled. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE send some labor vibes my way!!!

Alright Folks I"m the BFF coming in with an update on MapleKitty. Sarah and hubby went in to the hospital at 2:00am this morning. I just got off the phone with Sarah and no Robyn yet. She sounded very tired (I'm sure we all would be after 13 hours of labour) so let's send her good thoughts to get her through the rest of the labour. She was just waiting for her epidural so here's hoping that speeds things along.
Will update more this evening.

HI Ladies,
So It's 8:23pm my time. Just got off the phone with Sarah's DH Curt and there has been 0 progress since I spoke to them at 3:00. The doctor and OBYN were on their way up to assess the situation but according to Curt it looks like Sarah's going to have to have a C-section. Keep sending your good thoughts and prayers to Sarah and Curt- they are both very tired- What is it 18 hours of labour now.

Hello, everyone.
maplekitty - I hope everything went well! Can't wait to hear some news.
We had a really nice anniversary yesterday. DH got me a beautiful bouquet of fall flowers, and then we went out to eat after work with Gabe. Gabe was so well behaved ... I was a proud momma. :) Then, we ran over to Target, and DH declared that in honor of our anniversary, everyone should buy something fun for $20 or less. We got some movies and books and just general nonessential stuff. It was just nice to spend some leisurely family time together. Bunnybeth - Thanks for the anniversary wishes!. :)
Absolutely nothing going on labor-wise. No cramps, barely any BHs. Blegh.
marathongirl - Hang in there! I'm sending you labor vibes!

Good luck Sarah!
Well, the 24 hour mark (after membrane stripping) has come and gone...looks like it didn't work as well for me this time. As of right now, my next appointment is scheduled for 10/11 and I'll do the stripping again. I'm also going to go ahead and schedule induction for the following week(Monday after my due date is what I'm going to try for...waiting for doctor's office to open). I figure that I can always chicken out on the induction as long as the baby is fine, but I can't always get it scheduled.
Prepare for whining:
I'm just so uncomfortable/tired/anxious! I'm pretty much a control freak, so the idea that this is something that I can't control is driving me NUTS! I keep looking at EVERY LITTLE early labor sign and expecting to be in labor by that night and I wake up disappointed every morning that I haven't. For example...I am losing mucus plug by the chunk (REALLY gross...sorry), but I'm still not in labor. I've been having really uncomfortable (yet not regular or progressively worse) contractions for WEEKS and I'm not in labor. My skin on my belly actually feels like it's going to rip because it's pulled so tight above my belly button (which has a lovely veiny stretchmark thing going around it). I mean I'm 4 1/2 CM DILATED! Let's get this show on the road!!!
I feel like I'm complaining all the time to DH, who just doesn't understand. He's being nice about it and the fact that he has agreed to schedule the induction just in case we need it is proof of that (he's TOTALLY against induction).
OK...whining over. I know that I won't be pregnant forever. I know that I'll soon have this baby in my arms. I would just like to know exactly when!
Good luck to everyone! Hopefully we'll have lots more babies around here soon!

Hello! I'm Sheila's LJ friend... and this was posted over there in another friends journal. Sheila wanted the news posted here too, so I'll just copy/paste:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Henry Allan was born at 1:01 pm on 10/4. He was 7 lbs 8 oz, 21 3/4 inches.
My contractions started about 5 am, got to the hospital at 7, and I was 4 cm. The triage nurse was a brute and I willed myself to get to 5 cm to get admitted and get away from her and her internals. I walked for an hour or so, and the midwife was the one from my dr office delivering (yea!) She checked me around 9 and I was only 5 cm, but enough to be admitted.
They broke my water at 11 (ow) I got my epi 30 minutes later whn my contractions were right on top of each other.
Then I was a happy camper. At 12:40 she checked me and his head was way down, and she said let's go.
I pushed through 3 sets of contractions and he was here! They put him on my chest immediately. He ate 30 minutes later and is doing a great job of latching on 1 side. When the LC comes today we will work on the other-it is a bit inverted.
Tons of dark hair and cute as his brother. We are still in the honeymoon, lots
of sleep stage.
This recovery is so much better so far. . A few tears and stitches, but I am
already really mobile and feel great!

MapleKitty- Yay!! Congratulations!! So sorry to hear about your loooong labor, but now it's worth it!
Congratulations She-Ra!
Good luck MarathonGirl!!
About those same darn questions: am I the only one who makes up answers?? To people I know, of course I answer honestly, but all those strangers who come up ALL day long with the same four questions ...I just say whatever I feel like. It got so old to have the exact same conversation so many times a day, so I started changing it. My baby has been given so many ridiculous names by now, sometimes it's a boy, sometimes it's a girl (the truth), sometimes it's twins, sometimes I'm only 6 months pg (imagine their shock at the size of my belly), sometimes I'm 3 weeks late (I use this if I feel like hearing their crazy theories on how to bring on labor). It makes it a lot more interesting, for me at least... A few times I've give answers that don't even make sense, like when someone asked if I was all ready, I said "Well, we live on a boat, so I'm sure you know how that is". It's a sure-fire conversation ender - I got to just walk away while she was trying to figure out what I just said.

I've been noticing more BH contrax lately, and yesterday I had ZERO appetite. losing small bits of the mucous plug but nothing major. still expecting not to deliver until mid-next week at the earliest...
Hi Ladies,
Sorry that I kind of dropped out of posting after the first trimester. Between school and work, I was really strapped for time. I have been able to somewhat follow along though and I just wanted to congratulate everyone on the birth of their babies. Good luck to Marathongirl too! :)
A quick update on me: My little girl is here. Mahayla Simone arrived on Monday, September 25th, just one day before her due date. I went from having no contractions or signs of labor on Saturday the 23rd, to mild contractions on Sunday the 24th, and by 12AM Monday morning I lost my mucous plug and then 10 minutes after that my water broke. My contractions were still 7-10 min. apart, but very painful so we decided to go to the hospital. Turns out I was 4 cm. dialated, and 95% effaced. I was admitted and received pain relief via IV right away. It took the edge off BIG time and allowed me to answer what seemed like a zillion questions about my pregnancy and medical history. After that I received an epidural and was able to get some sleep.
There were a few scares with dips in the baby's heartbeat (umbilical cord was wrapped once around her neck), but they monitored her very closely and since I was dialating quickly I didn't have to have a C-Section. Active labor lasted 10 hrs. and pushing lasted 1.5 hrs. It was a really great labor and delivery. I had 2 amazing/encouraging nurses and a laid back and encouraging doctor during delivery. I had a small tear, which required stitches, but it's been a little over a week and it's not really painful anymore.
Threadmistress can you add me back to the front page?

I'm sooooooo jealous of everyone's babies! And the quick labors!
I had my appointment today. It was, well, pointless. I'm only 1 cm dialated tops. She tried to strip my membranes, but couldn't get to them because my cervix is still high. I got told both my body and the baby are "uncooperative." Sigh.She sent me up for an NST because I'm so close to my calendar due date (u/s date was last week!). The nurse got all excited because I contracted every minute for an hour, even though I couldn't feel them, then they disappeared. :(
Anyway, long story short, we scheduled a 3-part induction. First day will be Cytotec orally, 2nd day Cytotec vaginally, 3rd day Pitocin. We are not very happy about the actual dates, because my FIL's bday is the first day, the 12th. I will NEVER EVER EVER hear the end of it if the kid is born on his birthday. And of course, the 13th is Friday the 13th. Ughh. . . COME OUT BABY!!!!!
No more appointments, just praying we go into labor VERY VERY SOON!!!
Threadmistress: Induction(s) are October 12, 13, 14.

Congratulations Marathongirl!
Our month is really taking off!!
As of tomorrow I am officially full term. (which is in 3 hours :D ) Tonight was our last prenatal class and I am feeling confident and ready to go! I had a long talk with my boss today re: maternity leave and got all those loose ends tied up. (he's kind of a science/math guy and I think he thought that since I am due on the 27th that I will have the baby on the 27th. I had to explain that really anytime between now and 5 weeks from now could be the day....)
So I think we are officially ready to have this baby! (didn't I just get my BFP yesterday?)
Anyways, we have a really busy couple of days coming up. Dh's brother is getting married so I will be gone for the rehearsal tomorrow and the wedding Saturday. I hope to come back to a bunch of birth announcements on Sunday. Good luck to everyone!

Congrats to all the new mommies! Sounds like everyone is doing great!
Still here...this is the day that I went into labor with DD1...so I will be pretty anxious all day. I don't really think that I'm going to go into labor today though ...this kid seems pretty comfy where she is. Went ahead and scheduled induction for 10/16 at 9:30 AM, so no matter what, we'll have a baby within the next 1-12 days! I can't believe it!
It's funny...DH said this the other day. Since I started dilating so early and my doctor has been telling us any minute for WEEKS, we kept expecting to go into labor every day that passed. Now with every day that passes and it gets more likely that I WILL go into labor, we're less anxious about it.

Had my Dr appt yesterday. This was a Dr I had never met and I was not exactly thrilled with her. Hopefully she won't be on call when I finally have this child.
This Dr was very discouraging about my going into labor any time before my due date. She said I have not made much progress at all. I almost wanted to cry, I am so uncomfortable, I can hardly walk becuase this child has her head buried so low between my legs. I have had BH since 24 weeks which are only getting worse. Plus the child is resting on my bladder, I have horrible back cramping, my husband is completely irritating. I can't sleep at night because everything hurts, and I am still working.
Ugghhh...that feels better. Sorry for the rant.

10-06-2006, 11:20 AM
I think what I hate the most is when I'm out in public and the kid gives me a good foot jab (which he's quite the expert at) so I make uncomfortable faces and everyone immediately thinks I'm going into labor! Seriously, I'll know. And, babies don't pop out in 5 minutes anyways. :p
I had my work shower today, which totally surprised me! I'm stuffed full of cake and spinach dip now. :) We've been in our busy season the last month (what I like to call Evil Christmas) so I guess that's why it was thrown kinda late in the game. I got a nice umbrella stroller and some gift cards. We still have to buy the extra car seat base because BRU was out-of-stock last time, so that's what they'll go towards.
OB appt yesterday, and things are looking about the same. Gave her my birth plan, and everything looks fine. No weight gain for a 2nd week in a row!
Next appt is 10/12
MichelleRenee Wow, haven't gotten the placenta-eating question... ewww on that! But, my pregnancy journal has this section "Childbirth in other cultures" and in some places, that's actually traditional!!!
Michelle Hope you're having productive nesting!
Congrats MapleKitty! Welcome Robyn!
Congrats marathongirl, welcome to the world James!
Congrats She-ra!
Kimber LMAO on those crazy answers, that's too funny, I wish I had thought of it earlier. :D
Congrats Lily! She's absolutely gorgeous!

Maxicat I'll be working up until I go into labor, so I can feel you on that complaint. Being uncomfortable is plenty of reason to vent.

Congratulations, Sua! Get some rest! Welcome to the world, Drew!
We had our 2-week well-visit today ... Logan now weighs 8lbs 4 oz. I feel so much better about how he is eating now that they said he is gaining at a good rate. They answered a bunch of my questions about gas, mylicon/little tummys, hiccups, and BMs.
Not much else to report. Yesterday was an awful day hormonally/emotionally. Couldn't shake the baby blues at all. Then, last night was an awful night ... Logan didn't want to sleep a wink. We did have it down to where he was getting a good 4-1/2 to 5-1/2 hour stretch at night. But, last night all he wanted was to be held and rocked ... he woke up every 30-45 minutes. I'm so freakin' tired! Also, our apartment building has no water since about 7:30 pm yesterday ... made getting ready for the ped appointment EXTRA FUN this morning. :rolleyes:

Congrats to all the new babies! :) This is so exciting!
I just got back from my appointment. Not too much change from last week. I have a feeling that Madison is going to be taking her dear, sweet time in arriving! It's a little frustrating, but I know that things can change anytime.

Wow! It feels barely like October, yet nearly half our babies are here already!
Congrats to all the new mommies and easy L&D to those still baking :)
I think I am officially sick :( I am just praying Logan does not catch this cold/big/whatever. I cannot breathe through my nose more than half the time and despite exhaustion, I just cannot lay down when I cannot breathe through my nose at all :P My hands are dry and chaped from all the hand washing and purell using I have been doing too :p
Since we're not BFing anymore I have been loading myself up with drugs to try and get through it, but I can still barely eat and barely sleep at al :(
I am down to w/in 2lbs of my pre-pg weight, this might send me on my way to losing some additional weight I need to shed, though I would rather be healthy!
Si far Logan is such a good baby and a great sleeper compared to DD! She did notstart sleping through the night regularly until just recently!!! but My litle guy seems to like his sleep and does 3-5hr stretched most nights and sometimes even daytimes as well! :D I hope I do not jinx myself!
However, he doesnot seem to like te carseat, swaddling, or slinging right now. He does like the front carrier (I have a Snuggli that is like the Bjorn and he sleeps and loves to cuddle up to me in it :)) and his co-sleeper, which we call his "bed". So far he has not lked going for walks unless I take him out of his seat and hold him most of the whole time. He does not like the bumps/jostles that come with the city and western long Island sidewalks! LOL
More later!

Rippy- I'm so sorry to hear about your Logan's fussiness...hope it gets better soon and you get some sleep!

I had my doctor's appt on Thursday. Cervix is still closed, but he did say his head is way down (no wonder it feels like I've been kicked in my hoo-ha!) and engaged. So, I guess that is some kind of progress!! My doctor will be gone for the next 2 weeks :mad: I'm not happy about that...but what can you do? I will be seeing the other doc in the practice for my next 2 appts which are Oct 12th and Oct 19th.
My shower was on Thursday and was really fun. Most of the stuff we got was from our registry, so it was nice to get stuff we really wanted. We only have a few things to return/exchange from BRU. We are hoping to get there this weekend. A friend of mine who had her daughter a year ago is giving giving me her Medela PISA. I am so excited. It is a great pump and will save us about $300! So I hope BRU also has the membranes and stuff we need to replace on it.
My last day of work was Friday, so I am officially DONE. Woo hoo! Well, my calendar says TONIGHT is the full moon, so I wonder if more babies will show up tonight?!

Well, today is my official calendar due date (u/s was putting us at last week!), and still no sign of baby. I haven't lost my plug and contrax have pretty much disappeared. The only difference is I am swelling a ton now (even my face, ew. At least, I hope that's swelling and not last minute fat gain!).
Every night when I get up to use the restroom, I keep hoping against hope my water breaks!!
Sigh. I really want this little bugger to come out!! He seems to be quite content though. . . . .
Good luck to all who are nearing or at their dates!!

I have been having regular contractions for 37 hours. I had my first contraction at 4:30am Friday and they immediately followed every fifteen minutes after that. They did not increase in frequency nor did they taper off, theyjust kept coming every fifteen minutes. At that point they were not excruciating, mostly really uncomfortable.
After about 24 hours of that (by about 4:30am this morning), they became extremely painful. At 7:00am I lost my mucous plug all at once, and after that they increased to 10 minutes apart. So I have now been having really painful contractions every ten minutes for 10 hours.
Allison Judith was born on 10/5 at 3:09 PM. 10lbs 3oz, 21 inches long. We are both doing well and happy to be home.

We're home!!
omigawsh, what a ride! Well I got what I asked for, I "experienced" labour...and it HURT!! LOL ;) We had to have a c-section though because after 22 hours (I last 15 of those without the epidural) at the hospital when I was finally 10cm and 100% effaced, the OB checked me and Robyn had flipped posterior - hence the 3 days of back labour....ugh! She had wedged herself in my pelvis pretty good, and the doc thought he could use forceps and get her out, but it would take a few hours of pushing and after no sleep and labouring for 3 day I just couldnt...and the c-section was the best choice all around.
here is my little precious (more can be found in my journal):

Oh wow!!!!!!!!!
Kellie - Congrats!!! And 10lbs 3oz?!?! What a nice sized baby!!!!!!
Sarah - She's absolutely gorgeous! 15 hours without an epi?! Bless you!
Congrats She-Ra, Marathongirl, Sua and Lily!!!! All these babies...how exciting!
I'm tiiiiirrrreeedddd. I can't complain because Tyler is a pretty good sleeper. For the first week he would only wake up once throughout the night. I thought I was nice and spoiled. :) Ha! He changed his pattern and it's got me all out of sorts. What makes it difficult is that even though he sleeps until about 9am, my daughters have me up at 7am. Nobody naps at the same time either so forget making up for lost hours during the day.
I'm not complaining I swear! I really do feel blessed to have a *reason* to get up throughout the night ;)

Congrats again to all the new mommies and babies!!!
Things here are going very well! I'm finding mommyhood much easier the second time around. James is BF'ing like a champ. We took him for a weight check yesterday and he was down to 6lbs 9 ozs, so we will bring him for another weight check tomorrow.
KMM - wow a 10+ lb baby!! Congrats!
Threadmistress, please update my age to 32. My b-day was yesterday. Thanks!

Kimber ~ That's so strange! You popped into my head yesterday and I had the strangest feeling you were in labor! Crazy! Hopefully you've progressed further, and are at the hospital now! Hopefully holding Mia.
Has anyone heard anything about twink?
Congratulations, KMM! Welcome, Allison (that's my name! :D )!!
Congratulations to Maplekitty and welcome Robyn! She's so cute.
Congratulations to She-ra and welcome Henry!
Congratulations to marathongirl and welcome James David!
Congratulations to Sua and welcome Drew!
Congratulations to KMM and welcome Allison Judith!
Rippy1010- Logan's weight gain was great at his 2 week appt. We have our 2 week check tomorrow and I hope that my DD has surpassed her birth weight. I hear you about sleep patterns too. My little one was awake from 11PM - 2AM last night. We just cuddled, but I was definitely tired this morning.
So many new babies to welcome. How exciting. To everyone who's still waiting hang in there. You're all so close.
Congratulations to Maplekitty, She-ra, marathongirl, Sua and KMM!
Good luck to all you ladies still waiting!

Xavier had his first dr's visit on Friday (1 1/2 week post birth) and he was up to 5lbs 12 oz; that's about 5 oz over his birth weight!:D

Hello ladies. I'm pleased to announce that Joseph Parker arrived on Wednesday, October 4th at 5:50 pm. He weighed 8 pounds and 8 ounces, was 21 inches long, and scored 9's on his Apgar's despite a very rocky birth process. I still have to write my birth story up, but the short story is that I ended up with a c-section when the baby's heart rate decreased at an alarming rate and then wouldn't stabilize.
We are all doing well now. Joseph has been a champion feeder once he figured out why I was sticking my chest in his face. I'm in the engorgement phase now, so I call them my Pamela Anderson's. ;) Last night I had a stretch of 3 hours of sleep followed by 2.5 hours of sleep - it was heaven. I'm hoping tonight is another good night.

So almost half of our babies are here.... I have the feeling I am going to be the last one pregnant, and I am losing my mind!! I feel so sick to my stomach at night, and now this morning too. My bladder feels like it is bruised from being bumped so much. 18 more days.....

Well, I can't believe I'm still here. I had myself all convinced that this baby would be early, and now I'm a week from my due date. I don't feel too bad, however, because I have a friend who is now over a week past her due date with no end in sight. Ugh.
Same stuff as usual for me. Random contractions here and there. Painful BH that go all the way down to my hoo-ha. The usual aches and pains. I've taught Gabe to tell the baby "come out." He points at my tummy and says it. :)
Speaking of which, the little squirt was up a bunch in the middle of the night for who-knows-what reason. He has been so good about sleeping lately, and all of a sudden he's been waking up. Maybe his 2-year-old molars are coming in?
Anyway, congrats to the new mommies. I hope to be joining you soon!

Easton is offically out of his preemie clothes (hadn't put them on him in at least a week) his sleepers are too short and his onesies don't fit. Now he is in newborn and up to size 7lbs clothing. He has a doctor's appt on Thursday. Can't wait to see how much he weighs now.
congrats to all the new mommies, to those still waiting, your time is coming, you won't be pregnant forever

I'm still here too, unsurprisingly - due date is thursday. baby is definitely lower, and we'll find out if I've made any additional progress at my appt tomorrow. I'm generally fine with going past my due date - but my only concern about going late is that the baby will be huge!! That's a definite fear I have!

OK, we are having a bad day today. Steven was up every 1-1.5 hours last pm and will not let me put him down without screaming. He does not like the bjorn unlie DD, so I just ordered a sling, but I'm unable to do anything arolund the house. I've been sitting on the couch crying.

Congrats twink and welcome Joseph Parker!!
I hope everything is going smoothly for Taterbaby!! Hopefully we hear some news about her soon.
jbemommy, I am so sorry that Steven is having such a hard time! My friend that had two very colicky babies swore by taking them outside for a walk in sun and also taking them for long drives. Is it possible for you to try that? I hope it gets better soon!!
Ericka, how exciting that Easton is in NB clothes now! Yay! I am glad he is growing so well.
Well, obviously stil pregnant here. I am okay with it since my due date is 2 weeks away and I really don't feel HORRIBLY uncomfortable, just the usual stuff. Being here makes me want my baby though since so many of you have already had yours!! :)

Oh Shana...I'm sorry to hear you're having a bad day :( I understand the feeling tired. And, of course, being tired then magnifies every emotion by about 400%!
Hopefully he'll settle down long enough today to let you get in a cat nap at the least.

jbemommy ~ I'm sorry you're having a tough day. I can totally empathize with the sitting on the couch crying! Maybe some fresh air WILL do you both some good, if you can. We had been having a pretty bad weekend. Yesterday I took him outside for a while, and he ended up only waking once last night! Although he only wants to be held today ... and he doesn't like me sitting still - - I have to be moving. Every time I sit down he starts screaming. :rolleyes:
As for me ... I'm ready to strangle DH. Since we've been home from the hospital, we've made plans on at least 3 separate occasions to go out and do something as a family. Every time DH has backed out of it at the last minute. Today he was supposed to go with me and baby to the mall (because we have a party to go to tonight, and I have nothing to wear). I don't feel confident enough to go by myself on this type of excursion yet, and really wanted him there for help with the little boy. Now he tells me he thinks I should just go by myself ... because he doesn't feel well. You're freakin' kidding me, right?! What if I didn't feel well? I'll tell ya what ... I wouldn't be able to just lay in bed all stinkin' day! I'd still have to do all of the feedings, diaper changes, and shopping! I'm soooo hating on him right now!
Congratulations Twink and welcome Joseph Parker.
Jenzen01 - I thought that my little girl would come early too. At least by 39 weeks. She had other ideas though and waited until the day before my due date to make her grand entrance. :) Hang in there though, you're so close.
Ericka Jarett - I'm glad to hear that Easton is growing like a champ.
jbemommy - Sorry to hear that you guys had a rough night. You're not alone. My DD didn't want to sleep in her bassinet from 3:30am-5:30am so we were on the couch too so DH could sleep. Thankfully she went back to sleep around 6AM-8:30am in her bassinet so we all got a good stretch of sleep in this morning.
Rippy1010 - I was going to ask a QOTD about the support we're getting from our DH's. I totally understand how you feel. I've yet to take my little one on any excursions with just the two of us. DH wanted me to take her to the doctors appt. today by myself but I don't want to carry the car seat just yet. My back is still sore from my epidural so he's coming with us. I guess I'm a little scared to take her on errands by myself, but I'll have to come to grips with it soon because we're tired of being cooped up in the house all day. :)
My DH is doing pretty well with the added responsibility of a newborn, but we have also had a few talks about me needing help in the morning so that I can take a shower and pump/get the bottles ready for the morning/afternoon (I decided to express my milk for DD). As well as helping out with the night time wakings. He's off from work for bonding time, but is a grad. student. I know that he has to study so we compromised and he's going to get up 2 times during the week. Although, last week he tried to get out of it because he was tired. :rolleyes: I'm like, HELLO, me too. So we helped each other that night. He did the diaper changes and I heated the EBM so that he could feed her right after the diaper change. It's an adjustment for us both and I guess I'm just trying to be understanding of his needs as long as he pitches in when I need him too.
Anyways, our 2 week check up is today. I have a list of questions for my pediatrician. I hope that we like her. After the appt. I think we'll take Mahayla on her first walk outside. It's a gorgeous day.
Congratulations Twink! I'm sure Joseph Parker will bring you lots of joy.
Jbemommy---- Sorry about the rough night! I so feel you on that! DS sleeps all day long and wants to eat every 1/2 - 1 hr at night.:confused: Not sure what this is about. Hope it gets better for you soon!
Rippy---- Hope DH gets it together and start helping more.

jbemommy - I am sorry that you guys are having a rough day. We have had those here too - DD isn't too bad about being put down but I am having trouble managing the lack of sleep/recovery from c-section/attention to DS aspect of things this time around. DD is still too little for the Bjorn and we aren't supposed to keep her upright in the carseat/swing/bouncy for more than a half hour so my options are limited. Plus my sister was supposed to come this week to help and it got cancelled because her work is having her lead a big meeting this week. Hang in there - and come here to "talk" if you need to....
QOTD - when does the baby blues end and PPD begin? Anyone know? I don't think I am there yet but just wondering....
dzmattie - I asked that question at our 3 day postpartum Mother and Baby Check Up and the nurse practioner said that the Baby Blues can start right away, but should only last a few weeks to a month. The baby blues can lead to Post Partum Depression and that's when we should contact our physician. I know that for me the first 1.5 weeks were very stressful. I felt nervous, anxious, happy, and sad often all at the same time. I even cried when DH had to go to his evening class, when the baby was only 1 week old. It was my first time with her by myself and it was intimidating. We got through it just fine though and it turned out to be a confidence booster. I also talked to my mom for awhile that evening on the phone since the baby was asleep and that helped too. For me, I feel that the Baby Blues have passed and my hormones are finally getting back to normal. Everyone's different, but it does help to reach out to those around you when you're feeling down. For the most part people understand that we're bound to be a little emotional after 9 months of pregnancy and labor/delivery.

Sorry to those having a rough time.
QOTD (excursions) - When Easton was 10 days old I went by myself to pick him up from the hospital, since we were moving that day, it would have been crazy for both hubby and I to go and get him, since it was mostly just for pics and a feeding and than we left, he was able to make a first trip to the new apartment and got back about 1 hour later where I was packing up the kitchen some more while Easton slept in his carseat in the kitchen with me. We have gone numerous places already as just the 2 of us, but I feel comfy with that, since I use to take 4 kids with me to the mall at least 3 times a week just to get out. Last night I went to Target and ACMoore without hubby or Easton, that was a little weird to me. I am so use to having Easton with me always so not having him made me feel I forgot him.
QOTD (PPD and Baby Blues) - not sure when the switch happens, I don't feel I had either, except a bit of Baby Blues when he was in the hospital and I was home without him.

I keep forgetting to give a big THANKS to hmdelf for posting James' info! So, thank you! Sorry it took me so long to say so :o .
jbemommy - I'm right there with you. DS loves to comfort suck all night long and I am sore and bleeding. It is very tough to have a newborn and a toddler. Last night I got to sleep from 10-11pm and from 2:30 - 4:30am. James is a great sleeper during the day, but this time I need to be awake for Claire.
rippy - have a long talk with your DH. Mine can be the same way. He is the kind of person who can't function on less than 9 hours of sleep, but insists on staying up all night drinking beer and watching movies, then falls asleep when he's 'watching' Claire. I get very angry. I wish I could just go to sleep when I felt like it too.
James had his second weight check today. On Sat, he was 6 lbs 9 ozs and today he's back up to 6lbs 15 ozs, so only 1 oz below his birthweight. The ped was happy.
Hope all is well with everyone!

Congrats KMM and twink!
maplekitty She's just beautiful, and well worth all that labor, I'm sure.
Lost my mucus plug on Saturday morning, and from what I've been able to find online and in my books, that only happens within 2 weeks of going into labor, which would put me at right before my due date at the latest. I thought I'd go past the EDD, but I guess we'll see. If I make to Thursday, I'll ask my OB about it at my appt.

Congrats to all the new mommies!
BunnyBeth: I've heard that you can go a couple weeks after losing the mucous plug (last time my water broke 5 days after losing mine) but if you have bloody show it means labor within 24 hours, so watch out for that!
Quick update on me:
We almost went in to the hospital last night after I was having contractions 5-8 minutes apart for 6+ hours, but they just didn't feel intense enough. So I called L&D and they told me to take a warm bath and see if that slowed things down. It did, so no trip to the hospital. But I had a MW appt. today and she checked my cervix and I'm 100% effaced and already 3 cm dilated! :eek: So hopefully it won't be too much longer now. She did warn me it could still take a week or more but I'm hoping it's in the next few days...

Thanks for all the support guys! I did get him to take a nap in his basinette this afternoon, so that helped, especially since it was during DD's nap so I could sleep, too. What makes me feel sad is that I feel so bad for DD b/c when I have days like this, I get very impatient with her (2.5 y/o's are annoying at times ;) ), and I know it's not fair.
I think the difference between baby blues and PPD is the severity and also how long it lasts, but I'm not sure how long baby blues can last. I'd say if it's been a couple of weeks I'd talk to your dr. about it.
I haven't had to do any outings with both DC's, and I'm not looking forward to it! Especially if he doesn't start tolerating the Bjorn, I don't know how I'll get groceries.

CONGRATS TO ALL THE NEW MOMMIES! We are well on our way ladies!!
Robyn was 7 lbs 15 oz at birth and then discharged at 7lbs 3oz. The health nurse came yesterday and she was down to 7lbs 2oz :( :( It made me feel bad, that all my BF'ing just wasn't working. So we hunkered down and really gave BF'ing a good go today determied to get her weight up, and she was 7lbs 4oz today! YAY. Not much, but I wanted to prove to that health nurse that I was doing everything correctly!!
Today we had our first excursion! We went to Motherhood Maternity and bought me a nursing bra, heehee. But then after coming home I'm exhausted...yikes, healing from this c-section sure takes a lot of work..the smallest things are so tiring!
Tomorrow we have our first doctor's visit, so I'm excited to show off my little girl and get her all checked over! It's also Curt's Bday, so we'll be having his family over for dinner. They've been great about bringing us food, stocking our fridge and freezer and helping out! We are truly blessed! :)

Well, I'm still here too. Its crazy how many babies have been born already and its only the 10th!!! Congrats to all the new babies and mommies!!
We moved into our house this weekend. Things went well. I didn't really do too much (definately no lifting), but I'm still sore and exhausted. The house is a mess and its so hard being back at work when all I can think about is what I want/need to do at home.
We put the crib together on Saturday and I washed all the baby's stuff. So things are SLOWLY coming together. I can't believe I'm only two weeks from my due date and I'm just starting to do this kind of stuff.
Well, I'm so happy for everyone and their new healthly babies!!!

jbemommy - We are so in the same boat on the outings! I am going to look into the Stop and Shop delivery through Peapod. Since DD was born so early - we never even got around to a double stroller!! It is harder this time around b/c the only time we can nap is when the older ones are napping....I pray that I can nurse DD before naptime so I get 2 hours of quiet time. It certainly isn't fair to the older ones sometimes but I keep telling myself that they won't remember being 2 right? :( It is just a couple months of transition and hopefully they will get more of a life back!

Still here and getting increasingly impatient! :mad: I have another OB appointment tomorrow morning where I plan to get my membranes stripped again, so hopefully that will get things moving. DH's vacation starts tomorrow, so every day that this child doesn't make her arrival is one less day that I have his help.
DH is going to fight me on wanting to go through with the induction on Monday...I will probably lose it with him! I'm going to have to tell him that he gets to make the decision when he is pregnant, not sleeping, uncomfortable, and chasing after a toddler. I was so FURIOUS with him last night. I've apparently been snoring like a buzz saw, so DH has been sleeping on the couch for the past few weeks :(. DD has decided to stop sleeping through the night, and since he is downstairs he "doesn't hear her." :rolleyes: So between the bathroom breaks, DD, and not being able to fall back to sleep after both (i was up between 11 and 1 last night), I'm working on about 4 hours of good sleep per night. I know it's something that I should get used to, but DH and I are going to have to have a heart to heart about the fact that I WILL NOT be getting up with both children...he HAS to deal with DD1 when she gets up so that I can try to get SOME sleep.

I'm still here ... just plugging along.
I am hopeful that I might be having some prelabor symptoms, however. I had a serious energy burst last night, and I could barely fall asleep. I honestly thought about vacuuming the living room at 9 p.m. :) And then, I woke up with crampy contractions around 3. I'm still having some mild ones, but nothing really noteworthy ... they're anywhere from 5 to 8 minutes apart. Here's hoping this is all doing something! I have a dr. appointment this afternoon, so we'll see how that goes.
emermel - I hear you on the toddler front. Gabe has decided to test his limits with the big-boy bed. We put him down four times last night before he actually went to bed. He stands at the gate and yells for "mamma!" And then, DH was snoring last night. Between all of that, going to bed late, and the contractions, I'm really tired this morning.

Wonder how Kimber is doing and if she has had Mia yet??
Nothing to report here....hanging out at home. I scrubbed the stove yesterday, well practically the whole kitchen. I keep thinking, "what if people come to the house to see the baby and see how messy things are??" Is that a bad reason to clean?
Even though I am not horribly uncomfortable or anything...it is hard to sit and wait like this.... I feel like I am ticking time bomb....just staring at my body waiting for it do something. Oh well, maybe I will go vaccum to kill the time!!

Everything that I've read on it (since I was worried I would get PPD) said that if your "baby blues" extend in to 3 weeks or more you should speak to your healthcare professional.

QOTD: excursions - Oh my, what haven't we done in the past two weeks?!? I was feeling so incredibly good after delivery that, even the day we went home, we made a pit-stop at my ILs before going home. Sick, I know :rolleyes: Since then we've gone to Target, the mall, etc. I'm too much of a busy-body to sit still. The only thing that keeps me home for long periods of time is when he's nursing like crazy. I don't nurse in public so it forces me to go out in 1-2 hour spurts only.
QOTD: baby blues - I haven't had any except for when I think about how he's already 2 weeks old! I only feel sad when I think that this could potentially be the last time I have an infant. I've heard anything over 2 weeks is something that needs to be discussed with your dr. though.

Congrats Tater, welcome Lainey!
Rippy and MarathonGirl--I'm sorry to hear about your husbands. Unfortunately, mine is that way all ready (he works 44-46 hours and *always* takes 1-2 hour nap after work, but I do ALL the housework, he barely helps. . .um, hello, life could be waaaay worse!). So I'm probably going to end up in the same boat. I think maybe we'll have a little chat tonight about him helping out before the baby arrives!!
__________________________
Well, obviously, I'm still here. And not happy about it. I have light and few contrax when I move around a bit. Other than that, I'm still in the same boat--still have my plug, no strong or even regular contrax, baby moved back up high (acck!).
The nurses figured that if I hadn't made any progress by Thursday when they start the induction process, it won't be until they start the pitocin on Saturday that anything happens. . . and they figure I'm in for a LOOOOONG labor.
It was so danged easy to get this kid in (we weren't even TRYING!)--and now he won't come out!! :rolleyes:

What a busy thread, 18 pgs to catch up on. Since I'm doing this with one hand it will be short.
Ethan is doing very well. We had his 2 week checkup on Sunday. He was up to 8lbs 3 oz and 21 2/3" long! The Dr. said he's in perfect health. His cord is off, he's almost healed from his circ, and he's pooping like a champ. We talked about gas issues and sleep issues. He still won't sleep anywhere but on me, so that was our biggest concern, but she said for the first couple months its ok and is not habit forming. I wish he would sleep in his crib though. On the bright side he sleeps in 6-7 hour chunks at night, so that works for me! He has about an hour's worth of unconcolable crying every evening, but the rest of the time he's pretty happy.
He also hates his car seat, he's okay when we are moving, but if we stop at a light or get stuck in traffic he is not happy.
Congradualations to all the new mommies, and hang in there to all who are still pg.
ETA: BF is great, down 25lbs in 2 weeks!

Today was a much better day! DH took DS for about 4 hours last night to let me sleep and it was awesome! He also napped in his basinette today. I don't know what the deal with yesterday was. However, we do think he's allergic to milk like DD. :( (She had bloody stools at about 3 weeks of age). We tested his since he's been so fussy and they were faintly positive. So now I have to avoid dairy, and it is a pain.

Is anyone having trouble waking baby up to feed?
I keep being told that you need to feed baby every three hours, and not let her go past four hours. But you know, sometimes she just *won't* wake up. Maybe her last feed was a lot of she's completely satisfied and wants to sleep...and so is that really *that* bad if I just let her sleep for 5 hours inbetween feeds???
eta: doc says she's healthy, her colour is perfect...no jaundice, she's gaining weight well...etc etc..so I don't think there is anything "wrong" with her??

Sarah - I would take the "feed her every ?? hours" with a grain of salt. My third time around, I've realized that you do what works best for you. If she's really sleepy and isn't interested in nursing I'd say let it go. However, if you're finding that you're getting engorged from waiting too long, I'd say pump or try to wake her up by taking some of her clothes off. When I need DS to wake up to feed, I change his diaper. The cool air wakes him right up :)
If she's not acting lethargic and unresponsive and she's having the typical 6-8 wet diapers and 1-3 poopy diapers a day, I'd say that you're one of the lucky ones with a sleepy baby ;)

Well, yesterday I felt nauseous and barely had an appetite. Then in the evening I started having diarrhea, which lasted through the night, along with back pain/cramping and complete restlessess. I woke up around 3 and did not fall back to sleep. Now it is almost 7 and I have to get ready for work, but I don't even feel tired.
I guess I'm not sure if this means labor will start soon, and if so, how soon. I'm sure it's another one of those things that could mean labor is "days or weeks away." I've still got a couple weeks til my EDD so I'm trying not to get antsy, but I kinda feel like crap!

MichelleRenee - sounds like you might be having some signs!! hang in there
Welcome baby Lainey! What a pretty name!
Maplekitty - we have similar issues here too - DD definitely goes longer between feeds than we were told to let her. Although she is a preemie so I have to work on it alittle more - but I think with DS we let him go up to 4 or 5 hours occasionally - and I would do what Kenswife said - taking off the clothes and changing the diaper helps! And pump if you are full - even if it is to get some of the overflow out!
Bubeleh - sounds like Ethan is doing great!!!

dzmattie, I hope so, because I would be pretty mad if I felt this crappy for nothing!
I still have no appetite today, I have lost about 3 pounds this week, my whole stomach feels crampy and my back hurts. I am trying to be optimistic. I don't want to feel like this if it doesn't mean anything....

Congrats Taterbaby!
jenniferlynne Thanks for the tip, but there's not even a little bit of brown or pink yet, and I'm still hanging on. Sounds like you're pretty close yourself!
maplekitty Sounds like you and Robyn are doing great! Don't forget to get plenty of extra rest in, healing from a c-section takes a bit more from what I hear.
Mrs-Mac You're not much behind me on baby stuff, and I didn't have a move. You'll catch up quickly, I'm sure, it all comes together in the end. Though I know what you mean about being at work and thinking about all the stuff to do at home!
MichelleRenee That sounds like you're feeling terrible, I hope you don't have to wait too much longer. It does sound like early labor, so while it may still be weeks, it could at least be moving stuff along.
Still here. I slept terribly on Monday night, so I played hooky from work yesterday to catch some extra zzz's. Back in today and apparently everyone at work was speculating that I went into labor. Somehow I didn't figure they would. Besides extra rest, I also got a bit more sewing done, so now the dust ruffle and curtains for the nursery are finished. There's still plenty of small things to do, but the nursery is almost fully done, so that makes me happy.
We've been sorting plans out with our parents in regards to the baby's arrival. My mom will take a week off work and come over during the day when DH is at work and help take care of the house and me so I can concentrate on the baby. Sounds great to me! But, MIL wants to come down shortly after the birth (like 1-2 weeks) and while I get along with her just fine, I think she's planning on staying at our house. Which wouldn't be so bad if we had a guest room, but we don't and she'd be sleeping on the couch. And, she'd be there 24/7. And, it turns out our rocking chair is going in the loft since there's no room for it in the bedrooms, and I'll be nursing either there or in the living room where MIL is sleeping. I'd like if she could just come over during the day, but I know she really can't afford a hotel for the week. I hope it all works out, but I have a feeling I'm going to be so annoyed/frustrated by not having any just-us alone time that week.

michellerenee - what you're describing sounded like me a few days before DD was born. Good Luck and rest up!!!
maplekitty - I was having trouble waking DS up to eat and the LC I talked to said to let him go and try again in another 30-60 minutes. I wouldn't be too concerned especially if Robyn is gaining weight/looks good.
Things here are going OK, I guess. I think DD is starting to realize that James is here to stay and that mommy isn't 100% hers anymore. It's been tough on her and I feel really bad. I want to cry every time she does.

Still here (STILL!)...had my appointment this morning. I'm now at 5cm dilated and "extremely stretchy," so potentially, when this does happen, it could go fast. We did the membrane stripping again, so we'll see if that does anything this time.
I didn't have to wring DH's neck because he is not opposed to doing the induction on Monday. So, no matter what, by this time next week, we'll have 2 kids:eek:
Wish me luck!

I have had a range of different types of cramps today. I had 2 hours of contractions that ranged from 5-19 minutes apart. I went from having no appetite and feeling horrible to being hungry, eating and feeling a little better.
I'm not really sure if any of this means anything, but it certainly feels like things are gearing up for the big day. I really hope it is soon!

How exciting that the first November baby is here! :) Now my baby just has to get the clue that it's time for her to come! I'm ready!
For those of you who are still waiting deliver, how are you sleeping? I cannot get comfortable at all and it's so difficult to sleep! I think I might actually try to sleeping on the couch tonight to see if that helps.
I hope everybody is having a good day!

For those of you who are still waiting deliver, how are you sleeping?
I'm not, really. I kind of nap through the night, tossing and turning. I'm too hot, too cold, my hip hurts, my belly hurts, I have to pee, or I just wake up at 3 am "not tired" anymore.
My dr recommended sleeping on the couch or a recliner, but that's not too comfy either, IMO.

Hello everyone,
Just wanted to post that Kendall Renne was born Monday Oct 9th at 6:57 AM. She was 8 lbs 14 oz and 20 1/2 inches long. A few complications in the end but all turned out well. I will post more details later. We are home now and just trying to adjust and rest.
Congrats to all the new moms!!! So many here lately.
Good luck to all the moms left out there can't wait to see all the babies.

Another quick post: Mia London was born on Sunday October 8th at 1:38 (after 57 hours of labor!!) Weight at birth was 6lbs 9 oz, 19 3/4 inches long. She's doing great and strengely has my exact hair color, although mine is from a bottle and does not ressemble my natural color. How weird is that??!
Details later...hope you're all doing great!

When I got home last night I basically passed out! I slept through the night with only one bathroom break. I must have been exhausted.
I am still a little crampy this morning but feeling a lot better overall. I do think I probably had some 24-hour stomach bug or something. I still don't have too much of an appetite but I am able to eat and drink water so I think I'll be OK. I just have to drink a ton of fluids to make up for yesterday!

Congrats KimberDK--WOW, what a long labor, you are very strong!
Emermel--I'm soooooo jealous of you! I had 0/0 for dialation/effacement at my last appointment at 40 weeks, and I'm overdue. I'm sure you'll go fast. . . they told us 2nd time moms usually have faster births by several hours. I'll cross my fingers you make it to the hospital in time!! ;)
Michelle--Sleep is elusive. I move from the bed, to recliner, to couch, and back again. It doesn't help that my baby/stomach/abs weigh so much that I wake every time I need to switch positions!
_____________________________________
Well, we go in for phase 1 of induction later this morning. Cytotec orally. Since I had 0 progress at my last appointment, they aren't really expecting it to work today (go back tomorrow for it vaginally, and then Saturday for Pitocin if that doesn't work). Which I *think* I'm okay if it doesn't work today, because this is FIL's bday and we would never, ever ever hear the end of it if the baby was born today (not to mention, we *have* to name middle name after him, which I'm highly opposed to being TOLD what to name the baby, but that's another long story for another time)--anyways, that would complicate life. BUT. . . . at the same time, I'm ready for little kiddo to come on out!!

I have my dr.'s appt. today, so I am really hoping that I have possibly made some progress.... but we'll see. Yesterday, I had the worst heartburn I've ever had in my whole life. It was just terrible!!! Luckily it calmed down right before I went to bed so I was able to sleep okay.
Sleeping- I really can't complain. Besides getting up to pee every couple hours and having to switch sides every hour or two because of hip pain, I am able to get pretty good sleep. My dreams are still pretty crazy though!
Jenzen never came back after her appt the other day...... I wonder how she is doing??

Easton had his 1 month appt today (actually he was 5 weeks since his hep shot was 1 week after he was born) He is doing great. Eats 3 oz, every 3 hours, is up to 8lbs, 4.5oz and is 21" long. Bad news is he has baby acne as well as blocked tear ducts (causing eye crusties and a stuffy nose) and is quite gassy.
I bought him some Gripe Water, have any RO used it? I have read good things about it, so figured could try and see if we can get more sleep every night. Last night was rough between the gas, stuffy nose and hunger, I ended up in the bathroom with him for at least 45 mins because I didn't want to stay in the bedroom and wake hubby up and didn't have the energy to go downstairs.

Hi Ladies!
Finally checking in...
Lainey is here and we are all doing great! She was born on Saturday, October 7 at 5:18a.m. by c-section. She weighed 7 lbs 8.5 ounces and was 20 inches long. We did change her full name from what we had originally decided. She is
Emily Elaine, and we're still calling her Lainey.
Labor...
We checked into the hospital at 6a.m. on Friday. I was 2cm dilated and 60% effaced. At 8a.m. they started my pitocin and my OB stripped my membranes again. She wanted me to get to 4 cm before getting an epidural. After 5 1/2 hours, I had to ask for one, even though I was only 2-3 cm dilated. Before the epidural, she attempted to break my water and was unsuccessful.
I thought things were going to be wonderful as my legs began to go num, only to find out that the epidural was not going to agree with me and I began vomitting every 30-40 minutes from about 2-8p.m. At 8p.m. I got a little rest, but around 11p.m. I began feeling the contractions and gave myself a little shot of more epidural, only to begin the cycle of throwing up again. And I wasn't dilating. I was probably around 3-4 at this point. The nurses kept telling that once I got to 5 cm things would go quickly. Unfortunately that didn't happen for me at all. Finally, from about 2-4a.m. they turned the contractions up to the point that makes most women dilate fully and I was only at 6cm. My OB came in around 4:30a.m. and said I could give it another hour and see what happens or I could have the c-section now. She said Lainey's head was pressed against my cervix and was actually getting a knot on top of it because I wasn't dilating for it to fit thru. I asked what another hour was going to do and she said most likely nothing and I'd still need a c-section. So, after 22 hours of labor and only dilating to 6cm, I was being prepared for a c-section. We got into the operating room at 4:59a.m. and Lainey arrived at 5:18a.m. She came out screaming and just perfect!
We came home from the hospital on Monday morning. My mom is with us until Sunday and I literally haven't lifted a finger other than to take care of Lainey. My grandparents are arriving tomorrow for the weekend and we've had lots of company in and out all week. Let me just say that DH is WONDERFUL! Fatherhood really suits him and I'm in love with him all over again!
Thank you for all of your well wishes! I promise to upload and post pics soon.

Welcome to the overdue club, lawgirl4! Hehehehe! Are you going to get induced or wait it out?
_________________________
Well, our first attempt most definitely failed. Miserably. All the Cytotec did was give baby hiccups and make him squirmy all afternoon. :( Tomorrow the doc might switch to Cervadil (sp?) or something like that, since the Cytotec didn't really work. That will be administered vaginally.
I left the hospital with dialation and effacement of. . . . dadada. . . 0!!!! The nurses and doctor were not very happy about it. Obviously, neither am I.
Apparently, I'm really *in for it* when I finally do go into labor. They expect to have to break my water on Saturday and told us not to expect a baby until Sunday. Sigh. Guess I'll be camping out at the hospital for quite a while!
If I'm not back tomorrow night, have a great weekend everyone!!!

Hi all,
I haven't gone back and read everything from the past two days yet, so forgive the lack of SOs.
Just wanted to update (and vent) about my situation.
So, I went into my appointment on Tuesday and found out I was almost 2 cm and about 25% effaced. The dr. stripped my membranes, and off I went. About two hours later, the contractions started at about 8-10 minutes apart. Not too painful, but there. They continued for the next 12 hours, and really did get painful around 3 a.m. Needless to say, I was up all night, and then they just stopped by around 6:30 in the morning. So, I rested up and tried to get my head back in the game. The next night, they started at 3 a.m. and lasted until about 7. Again, some good painful ones in there.
We went into L&D because, frankly, I needed some support by then. I had a nonstress test, and baby is fine. However, I haven't dialated anymore even with all the contractions. My dr. called in a prescription for Ambien, so I actually slept last night.
I'm still getting contractions here and there, but nothing with a pattern right now. Also, I'm losing my mucous plug. Ew. That started Tuesday, and it's been pretty nonstop since. Lots of brown in it, and I had a little pink in it last night, but not enough that I'm willing to call it "bloody show."
So, I'm one really cranky pregnant woman right now. Really wasn't prepared to handle so much false labor. I keep getting my hopes up.
By the way, if given the opportunity to have my membranes stripped again, I wouldn't do it ... not with what happened to me. The nurse said that the stripping releases hormones, which cause contractions. But, if your body isn't ready, that initial release of hormones peters out after a while. Hence the stop/start labor I've been having.
So, that's the scoop from here.
ttfn,
Jen

midwesterngal - if I haven't gone into labor on my own by next friday, I'll be induced on friday. so 1 week to go, at the most. I'm already a bit dilated (2cm I think) and more than 50% effaced, so *something* is happening...

I am pretty convinced that I have a stomach bug. My doctor agrees. I am starting to feel better, but whenever I eat anything it makes my stomach hurt and get very crampy.
Today at my appt the doctor said everything still looks good. The baby is fully engaged and ready to go. He said that if he were born today he'd probably be close to 6.5 pounds and that he definitely thinks I am going to have a small baby. That is kind of a relief since DH was almost 11 pounds when he was born to his 5' 100 pound mom.
I did lose 3 pounds this week.
So I could go into labor today or I could still be pregnant at the beginning of November. Really, I am OK with that. It feels like forever, and I am pretty miserable at times, but knowing that he will be in my arms in 4 weeks or less makes it easier to wait.

TaterBaby Sounds like you have a wonderful, supportive family and are enjoying Lainey. Congrats again!
Appt yesterday was the same as usual, still at the same point (1cm/50%) and holding steady. Could go today or in 3+ weeks. Who knows? We should be pretty much finishing up the nursery this weekend.

So last night I did something I didnt think I'd be doing. We co-slept. Now, for those who are planning this right from the get-go, that's great. I really have no indifference to it, I simple just thought I wouldnt be the type to want to. It was a stretch for us to actually put the craddle in our room. But after a few "no-breathing and coughing up mucous" scares at the hosptial we needed her in our room to listen to her for us to feel comfortable.
Well the past few nights we've noticed that Robyn likes to sooth herself to sleep by sucking on my pinky finger. We've got a sucker on our hands!! And a paci just seems to big for her right now, it keeps smacking into her face and it doesnt stay in, so the pinky is the only alternative. Sometimes it takes up to 20 mins for her to sooth herself to sleep...try doing that sitting up in bed/walking around in the hall at 2am!! Not good! And then she'll fall sleep, and I'll put her in her craddle and she instantly wakes up, or she'll sleep for 30 mins, startle herself and wake up again....ugh!
So last night DH says, just let her fall asleep next to you. I did that and BINGO, she slept for 3.5 hours straight until my BBs started leaking and we needed to wake up to feed!!
So I think we're going to do this for a little while, it's also comforting for me to snuggle next to her and be right there every time she wakes up so I can just rub her back and she falls back asleep.

Today is my due date but no baby! I just got back from the dr. and no change from the past 2 weeks. I am measuring smaller so she has dropped more and is in the -1 station but that's about it. It's just frustrating to hear about no more progress other than the small dialation and super soft cervix.
So after midnight tonight can I join the overdue club? I have an ultrasound and NST scheduled for the end of next week but hopefully I'll have a baby before then! I'm hoping anyway!

maplekitty ~ I almost wavered and co-slept myself last night. But, alas ... I was one of those mommies "walking the hall" at 3:30 this morning. :rolleyes: I'm downright BEAT today. I decided NOT to give in because, honestly, for the previous three nights he did absolutely GREAT in his crib and slept a good 5 hours. But, I was quite close to just giving in last night ... I was dead tired and he didn't show any signs of falling asleep. Technically, I guess you could say that I did co-sleep, because we nap on the sofa when he won't sleep by himself and wants to be held/cuddled. :o :p

Bunnybeth – Congrats on losing your mucous plug. It won’t be too long now.
MichelleRenee- Hang in there. Your symptoms sound like mine a few days before I went into labor. I think that you’re really close.
MidwesternGal – Good luck with everything. I’m sending you fast and easy labor vibes.
emermel – Wow, 5 cm. already! You’re halfway there. Good luck with the induction on Monday if you don’t go into labor this weekend.
Ericka_Jarett – Easton is doing great. That’s a great 1 month weight.
Jenzen01 – Sorry to hear about your experience. It does sound like your baby will be here soon though.
Maplekitty - I've also co-slept with Mahayla. We like to snuggle for a few hours in the evening, where we might fall asleep and sometimes at night if she's not wanting to sleep in her bassinet. It really is relaxing for us both.
Mahayla is doing really well. We had her 2 week appt. and she weighs 7lbs. 5 oz. which is up from when we left the hospital. I think she weighed 6lbs. 13 oz. then. She's sleeping pretty well at night. She'll wake up every 2/3 hours to eat and get her diaper changed but will go right back to sleep which is nice. We had our first outing just the two of us today which was a trip to the mall and it went quite well. It gave me a confidence boost for the next time.
To everyone who is overdue, speedy labor vibes to you.

midwesterngal, lawgirl4, jenzen01 and michelle-Hope you girls go into labor really, really soon!!
I bought some of that red raspberry leaf today. It actually tastes pretty good, I think, so I am enjoying it... you are supposed to drink at least 24 ozs of it in one day and I up to about 16 ozs.
I had my first really bad night sleeping because I had so many contractions last night. There was no pattern to them though and it was that awful kind of sleep where you don't really know if you are awake or not.
have a good weekend all!

Maplekitty - Just wanted to say that I never thought I would be a co-sleeper either. My DD#1 slept through the night almost instantly so it wasn't an issue and with DD#2, I avoided it. However, with this little guy I was able to set up a bed in his room and have pretty much co-slept from the beginning. He'll sleep in his crib from 11pm-2am, then he wakes up for a feeding. Then he'll actually sleep in his crib again until 4:30/5am (his next feeding). But after that, he won't sleep anywhere but in bed with me. Do what works!

overdue gals - hang in there!! Your babes will be here soon! Sending labor vibes to you all!
co sleeping - I said I wasn't going to do it with James as we had a very difficult time moving Claire to her crib, but when he's up to eat every hour, I don't have the stamina to keep walking down the hall or sitting in a rocking chair. At least if I nurse him laying down, I can doze. As with everything else, you figure out what works best for your family.

Well...due date is here. I fully expected to have a newborn by now, but I am surprisingly calm so far today. It probably has something to do with the fact that I feel like crap! My throat is killing me...DD was up all night and I'm wondering if she's getting sick. I am so annoyed with my IL's, as they were sick last week and kept saying they were fine! Obviously, we could have picked this up anywhere, but they could have so easily avoided us. I'm not sure what I'm going to do if we're sick when this baby arrives...especially if we're sick with coughing stuff...that just seems like a BAD situation around a newborn. Any suggestions?

I had my 39 week Dr appt yesterday. They were kind enough to strip my membranes. It was not as bad as I thought it would be, but boy did I get a headache afterward.
I am 3 cm dilated and still 50% effaced. I have to be there Monday morning at 5:30 for my induction.
There are feelings of guilt about wanting the baby out just because it did take 4 years and people love to remind me how fortunate I am to have gotten pregnant.
However, I want to meet my daughter and my body is done, just completely done.
Boy it seems like I do a lot of complaining.
Dh and I are having our last weekend of just being a couple. It is exciting to think about what next week will bring. We are both buzzing around talking about it. We will make a list later to make sure we have everything.
Good luck to everyone this weekend.

maxicat, I don't think you should be feeling guilty AT ALL! you weren't trying to "be pregnant" for those years, you were trying to have a baby - and here you are!!! you have every right to feel ready to meet your daughter! :) good luck on monday!
emermel - hope you feel better soon... hang in there!

emermel - DD was a coughing snot factory all week last week. We just washed her hands constantly and only let her touch James' feet or rub his back. I caught her cold but her seems fine. Baby will pick up some immunities from you, especially if you BF. Good luck!
maxicat - good luck on Monday! Enjoy your last weekend with just your DH!

Well I'm still here ladies - and still pregnant :o
Had a dr's appt on Wed and am now 3cm's dialated (was 2cm's the week before) and still only 50% effaced. Been having constant contractions (could still be only Braxton Hicks - because only some of them are painful) for the past 4 days but not regular and not painful yet. Every few hours I'll get a cramp or a painful one, but then it goes away. I've been having a bloody show for the past few days as well (every few times I go pee I'll see blood on the tp and today I even had a blood clot come out) but still no baby...
It's getting quite frustrating, we've tried almost everything possible and it's not working... Have my next dr's apt on Tuesday and we'll see what she says. It's like I've been in early labor for a week now :eek:

Add me to the list....of people who said they wouldn't co-sleep....and did last night!
I always just felt it was dangerous, wanted our own space, etc...but last night and the night before DD was a crying mess....so last night we layed with her at about 11pm...and we all woke up at 5am!!! Not the greatest for her to to that long without eating since she is still technically a preemie but I feel so much bettter today!! (After I got her to feed ALOT to get rid of the engorgement!!) And other than her diaper not being as wet as it should be she seems fine - I will keep an eye on the diapers....
Talk to you all later - waiting for more of the babies to make their appearance - speedy labor vibes!!

Hi everyone...
Still hanging in there myself. At my app. last week I was still 1cm and long. Like Jenzen, I had Thurs & Fri 3 am wake ups w/ contractions for 3 hours, but nothing came of either. Oh well, What can you do? I am getting a lot done around the house since DH isn't working overtime since we thopught we might be headed to the hospital. I am still not in a huge rush tohave this baby. My only complaint is terrible hip pain while sleeping. It could be worse. Have a great week!

emermel DH and DD had a cold when DS was born, and were just careful about washing hands, he did fine.
cosleeping Didn't think I would have done it either before DD, but when that's the only way to get a decent stretch of sleep, I gave in. She co-slept for about 2 months. For some reason, DS sleeps pretty well in his basinette during the day (usually) but not at night, so he's co-sleeping now, too. However, I have no plans to keep doing that more than a few months.
I hope those of you due soon/overdue go quickly, I certainly was happy to be done being pregnant!

Question for the new moms and the ROs ...
Is this normal behavior ...
My DS STTN pretty much all last week (Sunday night through Wednesday night, anyway). Then, Thursday night through Saturday night he was just a crying mess ... wouldn't eat at his normal times or his normal amount, couldn't be consoled, and basically wouldn't sleep AT ALL!!! I finally got him to sleep (on my chest, on the sofa) at about 4:30 a.m., and he slept through until 8:30. But, I was bawling last night from exhaustion and utter frustration. He wasn't hot or cold that I could tell. I thought he might have gas pains, so I tried Mylicon and that did not help. He kept acting hungry (stuffing fist in his mouth and sucking), but then I would give him the bottle and he wouldn't eat, he would just scream louder (like he was saying "no! You're getting it wrong!" :rolleyes: ). Is it normal for them to revert back to NOT STTN after they got it down for a few days? I even took his temp to see if he was getting sick (because DH is sick, and has now gotten me sick), and he didn't have a fever.
Also, last night he went his longest stretch ever between feedings (exactly 6 hours) and then at his next feeding he only ate 52 mL ... which it took me an hour to get THAT in him.
Does this all sound like normal baby behavior, or do you think I need to call the ped? Diapers (wet and dirty) have all been normal for the past few days. The nights have just been absolutely horrid ... two nights in a row I have cried through the whole night, not knowing what to do to make him stop screaming. We had the neighbors dogs up barking last night. :( :rolleyes:
It just seems like lately (the past several days), he is either eating, sleeping, or screaming. There has not been ANY happy awake alert time. And, I have to say that I am at my wit's end with it. I thought I was honestly going to lose it last night.

Rippy - from what I have heard from people and from my experience with DS - babies seem to "wake up" around 3 weeks and their behaviors change alot. We are finding that with DD. She was sleeping great - eating every 3-4 hours through the night and going right to sleep. A few nights ago all of this changed and she started crying alot more and doing alot of the things you described (part of the reason why we slept with her last night!) - you certainly should mention it to the pedi at your 1 month checkup which is probably coming up or call if you would feel better about it....I know DD also seems to have been going through a growth spurt during this past week which is part of it too....I feel your pain....

Hi everyone. I just wanted to annouce that our daughter made her appearance on Thursday, 10/12, at 5:16 p.m. after a very short, very intense labor (45 min. from the time my water broke)! She was 7 lbs. 15 oz. and 20.5 inches long and seems to be healthy and content. Despite (or maybe because of) my fast labor, I feel great and was up and around very shortly after birth.
I'll try to come back soon and post a pic--if our little one ever lets me put her down!

Rippy--sounds like colic to me, he's 3 weeks now. You certainly could take him to your ped just to be sure, but if he doesn't have any other worrisome symptoms like fever, vomiting, less wet diapers, etc., it's probably colic. I liked the Happiest Baby on the Block book by Dr. Karp. What has worked best for our DC's has been tight swaddling and white noise. We have a white noise CD, but you can try a radio station that's just static. We found we have to turn it up really loud at first and then once they stop crying you can back off. If you're BF'ing, the other thing to think about is a food allergy, especially dairy. Usually there would be diarrhea with that, though. Anyway, (((((HUGS))))), it can be really tough to deal with. Can someone watch him for a few hrs. to give you a break? It *will* get better with time!

Once again I have been up since 4 am. It's like I wake up to pee or even for no reason but then I am just not tired anymore. I certainly am tired during the day, but I just do not sleep at night anymore. Is my body just preparing me for the first months of motherhood? I used to sleep 8 hours or more a night and now I am down to 5, on a good night. It just amazes me that I can wake up at 4 am now and just not be tired enough to go back to sleep. I hope that I feel the same way when I am up for late-night feedings!
Other than that I am hanging in there. I am so sick of people saying to me that I won't make it to my due date because I am "huge." I am due in 11 days. That is pretty darn amazing to me. I can handle another 11 days of pregnancy, but I will get very antsy once I pass my EDD. I'm still thinking we'll have a Halloween baby.
I hope all the new mommies are doing well and getting enough rest. Everyone whose still PG: I hope you are all comfortable in these last days.

MichelleRenee - sorry things are uncomfortable now, they will be over soon and than you can have sleepless nights with Tristan in your arms at least. :) Try to get naps in when you come from work and on weekends, you will be glad you slept even if it's an hour. I take a nap when I can, but that's hard especially when you are still trying to take care of things around the house (cleaning and such)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Easton has been going in 3-4 hour stretches at night so it's nice to get some straight sleep and than he goes back to sleep pretty quickly when he is done eating. In the morning after Jarett leaves usually bring him in bed with me and he will sleep another 3 hours, if he just ate. Got the totes in his room sorted and labeled. His room is huge so we are using part of it as storage and the rest is his room (not being used presently but for his clothes in the closet and some toys)
We have many trips to take before the end of the year. We are going to VA to see his great-grandma (Dh's grandmother), seeing his Nana (my mom) in NY State before the snow comes and than heading to Vegas/Grand Canyon for our 5th anniversary and DH's b-day. Easton is going to be a well traveled kid.

Ericka - I've got a question for you. I know you said Easton had blocked tear ducts. How do you clear blocked tear ducts. I suspect Ty has a blocked tear duct. I will obviously call the ped. but I was curious what the typical *fix* is for that. Thanks!
Michelle - I agree with Ericka..get sleep when you can. I've had 2 kiddos before this and I still wasn't prepared for that sleep deprived feeling that I have. You know it's coming but it really can be a struggle to get through. Tristan will be here sooo soon!!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ty is doing well. He's been pretty fussy the last few days. We think he has a milk sensitivity so I've had to take major milk products out of my diet. Though, because of my diet changes, I think his tummy is trying to adjust also. He's sleeping the same so he's still up at 2am and 4:30am. But, my DD#2 was worse so I can't complain.
I've had a late onset of the baby blues. Nothing bad, just hormonal - ha! I think between sleep deprivation and time flying by, I'm just a little down. My baby boy is almost 3 weeks old (tomorrow)! It just all went faster than I expected. Soooo glad now that I took my whole FMLA leave since there's no WAY I could go back to work in 3 weeks!
Threadmistress: Could you change the front page to just show "Ty" as DS name and just "A & I" for my DDs? Thanks!
get sleep when you can.
LOL, the point is that I CAN'T! I wake up in the middle of the night and no matter what I do I canNOT fall back asleep. It's like my body thinks it is morning when really it is still very much nighttime! It's not "I'm tired but my mind is racing" so much as "I'm just not tired" awakeness.
But I do usually take a nap when I get home from work and weekends during the day when I can. It really is good advice... unfortunately I just can't figure out how to get back to sleep at night. I just don't feel tired! A friend of mine's dr gave her a rx for a sleep aid during her last weeks of pregnancy. I'm not too thrilled about going that route... but maybe that's where I'll end up.
Quick post ....
Today is my due date. Never thought I'd make it this far, but here I am.
The cool part is that I had bloody show yesterday morning, so the nurse said labor should start 24 to 48 hours after that. Here's hoping I get some action today.
kenswife - I was told and shown to rub from the inside corner of his eye to down below his eye with slight pressure. Just keep repeating it for a few mins, several times a day. Don't rub back and forth across the area, just downward motions. It's a similar motion for congestion, just from the bridge of the nose down over the sinuses. To clean the area choose a soft cloth or tissue and warm water works best.
michellerenee - I had the same sleep issues starting about 2 weeks before my due date. I'm now 4 days overdue and I've been sleeping better for the past 3 nights.
kenswife - my nephew had a blocked tear duct and wound up needing surgery - not sure if it always warrants surgery, but I would give your ped a call.
nothing new here! I am now 40w4d, ugh. baby feels lower, I've been having stronger contractions (mainly at night) and more "period-like" cramps, but that's it. tomorrow is my u/s, nst, and then my OB will strip my membranes... I really hope that will get things started. otherwise - induction day on friday!
Congrats jenniferlynne!
maplekitty I guess mommyhood is not knowing what works best for you until you're there. Sounds like all were happy with the cosleeping arrangement, so go with it!
michelle Here's hoping you don't need that NST in the end. :)
Jenzen Hope the little one arrives soon, and you have a quick & easy labor!
I swear, so far today at work, anyone who's seen me has been like "you're still here? still pregnant?" Um.... yes, I think I know that. This is just making me wish I didn't still have to come into work.
The nursery is all done now, just have to take some photos. Now, we're working on the rest of the baby stuff, still have to find a place to put some of the stuff like the swing and rocking chair. And,
