I know there's a samples, freebies, and coupons thread in the All Things Money forum, but I was thinking that it would be nice to have just a samples thread in this forum. Thay way, we won't have to weed through all the coupons posted and posts about products that don't fit into this particular category. I hope that's okay with the Mods. :)

I have a ridiculous amount of products that have only been used once or twice, and now they're taking up space in my bathroom cabinets. I love when I can sample something first so I don't end up wasting money on a product that I don't like.

walmart freebies are the absolute best!! They always send them out and quickly at that. I also just got a FULL size Oxy POD....looks like something I could buy in the store from walmart samples.

At the Kiehl's counter, you can get around 3 free samples per visit - sometimes more depending on the person. I think some salespeople will also only honor it if you buy something, but that isn't the case at the counter I frequent most often.

Another purchase one - but you can get up to 3 free samples of random products if you order from Sephora online. They also send out emails w/ extra promotions at times.

I don't like samples of things that I don't regularly use, or wouldn't otherwise use except it's free, but I have found some good stuff through these 2 sources. I have a cosmetic bag in one of my drawers dedicated specifically to samples of products.

The samples might make good travel-size portions. That's how I typically use mine up, since we travel quite a bit to see our families, both of which live in a different state.

I always buy a small version of my product, whenever available, and re-fill that bottle from my regular ones for travel. I use a lot of Aveda and Kiehl's products, which fortunately have mini versions of most of their products. But yeah, I do use samples for travel in a pinch.

Also, I take the products from hotels - especially if they are nice products - and I put them in our guest bathroom for guests to use when they visit, in case they've forgotten anything. Our guests think it's hilarious :) but they also really appreciate them! This is another great use for samples, too.

I actually got mine in the mail 2 days ago - I had completely forgotten about it, and I got a box from Whirlpool. I was totally baffled, and finally remembered it once I opened it and saw the nail polish.
