Our lab is about 12 weeks old and we're crate training him. Recently, he's beyond thirsty when he comes out of the crate. I mean he's gulping water like it's going out of style. He's only in there for a few hours at a time (less then 4) so it's not like we're keeping him in there all day. When he's not in the crate he can go for longer than that without water.

Anyways, DH and I want to put some small dishes in his crate. Ideally so I don't have to let him out over my lunch hour. We'd like something that can clip to the crate, so he can't tip stuff over.

We went to PetCo last night (where be bought the crate) and they didn't have anything! Right now I'm using small plastic bowls for when I'm at work, but I know those won't last long.

Any recommendations on where I can get some clip-on bowls?

if you don't mind ordering online, www.petedge.com is really good. you can see their selection here (http://www.petedge.com/jump.jsp?itemType=INDEX&itemID=426). but i believe you have to pay a shipping or processing fee if it's under $50.

do you have a petsmart near you? they have some on their website (http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=84552444180 9369&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302025790&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302023689&bmUID=1121283874846) and shipping is less.

the petco website (http://www.petco.com/Productlisting.asp?tab=1&c1=125&ct1=Bowls+%26+Feeding+Supplies&c2=131&ct2=Bowls+%2D+Travel&Dept_ID=131) also has some, and the shipping is about the same as petsmart.

I wouldn't recommend leaving a water dish in his crate all day - that will make it hard for him to not need to pee.

I agree, putting water in his crate could adversly affect his potty training.

We were thinking about that (him having the need to pee from the water) and we've been debating about that.

On one hand I don't want to give him too much water so he goes every where. On the other hand, he's so dang thirsty after a few hours I feel bad.

Maybe I'll keep this in mind when he's older.

I have a retriever too (golden) and those dogs just love water. Mine gulps it down like there's no tomorrow whenever he gets the chance. He's just over a year old now and I still don't leave water in his kennel. He gets plenty when he's out and I have no reason to believe he's suffering from lack of water. Your pup should be fine.
