My SO's birthday is this month... and I'm in nursing school so money is, unfortunately an issue at the moment. I want to do something special for him though. I decided to go ahead and alot $50 for his day/present, even though I would love to spend more.
On this budget I need some help. I know of three things that he really wants.
1.) A special watch with all kinds of "gadgets" on it that is out of my price range right now, but that I think would make a good gift later when I can afford it.
2.) A coffee maker that not only brews coffee, but grinds it too. I have looked around on the net for this, but the cheapest ones I have found so far are between $100-200, with the latter having much better customer reviews.
3.) A way to play his ipod in his car. I'm thinking this might be my best bet price wise. Can anyone recommend a good transmitter?
I also thought of buying him a massage (cost=$55 for a deep tissue with my therapist.)
Any other ideas are welcome!!! Thanks.

hi!
i don't have any watch or i-pod info, but for coffee makers, we have the cuisinart grind & brew which has worked really well for us (we've had it for about a year so far). it's 99.99 at bed, bath, and beyond and then less if you have a 20% or 30% off coupon.
money is tight with us right now, too, so for dh's birthday, i got him 2 seasons on dvd of a show he really likes--i bought them on ebay for a lot cheaper, too!)

Thanks Endy! I'm glad to hear the grind & brew has worked for you!!! The reviews on amazon left me wondering. How long have you had it?
The 20% coupon is a GOOD idea. It would still be over my $50 limit, but if I don't come up with something better, I'd rather get him something he really wants.

Recently DH and I saw a TON of iPod accessories at Kohl's. Not sure if you have any of them near you, but they are ALWAYS on sale. And, if you open a charge you can get an additional 10% off (and then you can pay off the bill right away).

I think the massage is a great idea! I know my DH would love that.

Chemichanga - I have a Kohl's less than 2 miles away! I'll have to go check it out.
Krissycat - yeah... I know he'd like a massage. He's such a gadget geek too! *sigh* I wish I could get him both. Maybe I'll just have to give him the massage myself! ;) [It wouldn't be the same though.]

You could go get some massage oils from Bath and Body Works (they were having a sale and may still have one going on). They have kits for like $10 or something.
One of the best massages DH has had was one I gave him (so he claims). I started with a soaking bath, I bathed him, I lotioned him from head to toe, gave him a hand and foot massage then gave him a back massage. I had candles going in the bathroom and the bedroom. He's had professional massages too, and while he loved those, he always says this one was his favorite because it was me giving it to him. I was whispering sweet nothings in his ear while I was massaging his back and he said it was so intimate.
If you find something at Kohl's for his iPod (at a reasonable price) you could get a massage kit too.

Just wanted to chime in since I read that you were looking at Grind & Brews; stay away from Cuisinart; I work part-time in retail and have had plenty of complaints about their coffee machines.
Just a thought...

Thanks sdianems, I wondered about this after reading some of the reviews on amazon. That leaves the $200 one... Most people gave it a good review, with a few exceptions. I'm starting to think just buying a seperate grinder would just be the best thing for him to do! Men with their wannabe gadgets!!!
