I'm feeling pretty good so far. With DD I was pretty sick most of the first 2 months and I've been a little naseaus a few times, but nothing too bad. I'm exhausted, but know that's to be expected.

I went to the dr. on Tuesday. My dr and I talked for about 20 minutes about my pregnancy with DD, detailed family medical history, and different things to know about my pregnancy, how he handles things, etc (this is a new dr for me). I love, love, love my dr. We moved last November and had to switch and I'm so happy with my choice! He took some blood and I was given a bag with so many magazines (pregnancy & baby ones), samples, and coupons. I don't think I'll have to buy any prenatal vitamins for my whole pregnancy with all the samples he gave me. I love freebies! I go back Aug 21.

QOTD
When will you tell family/friends/co-workers the big news?

I have, inadvertantly, told most everyone I know. I told my closest friends, partly because it would have killed me not to and also because we're having a bbq this weekend and it would have looked odd if I passed on a margarita. In-laws know and so do my co-workers. I hadn't planned on telling my co-workers until later, but my closest friend here guessed as soon as she saw me on Monday and I had to tell my boss because of all the time off I'm going to be requesting for dr appts. And before I knew it, the whole office knew. I work for a small-ish, family owned company and everyone is so sweet and already taking such good care of me. I'm glad I told. My parents don't know. They're on vacation right now and my mother and I have a strained relationship, so I'm a little uneasy about calling her with the news.

QOTD
When will you tell family/friends/co-workers the big news?

I've told a select few friends (3 of them) and I've told one of my coworkers who also happens to be one of my best friends. I don't plan on telling anyone else until after our doctor's appointment in 2 weeks. My parents will probably be the first after that time. I can't wait to tell everyone!!! :D

I saw the new thread and was sooo confused... had to find the old one to figure things out...

Telling people: Well, we're going to a bbq on Saturday with my 3 best friends... so I'll probably tell everyone there (its my old college friends...we don't get together too often, and Id rather tell them in person than wait and tell over the phone... Side question: The girl throwing the bbq is also pg (WOOHOO!!!) She told me, but she's going to tell everyone else on Sat (she's due 9 days before me) ... I didn't tell her while we were talking (I would have, just didnt get a chance)... I don't want to rain on her parade...it's her first, my second... Should I hold off on telling??? (I think she'll be ecstatic that we're due so close, but I don't want to steal her thunder at ALL)... We're gonna try and wait til after the first drs appt to tell the families, but my sister already knows... and, I honestly don't know if I can wait that long... my first appt isn't until Aug 23rd...

1st Dr. appointment and U/S on 9/7/06.

I experience pPROM (preterm premature rupture of membranes) at 32+3 weeks with my first pregnancy, and delivered at 34 weeks. I'm nervous that it could happen again, but my Dr. has a plan in place (progesterone injections, frequent ultrasounds of the cervix, etc) so hopefully I'll carry to term.

QOTD: Week of August 12th we'll see various family members and begin to share the news.

Symptoms: Just a crampy uterus.

LOL - I told DH the news this morning and it sort of led to a panic attack/reality check and we ended up fighting. I said, "I've been pregnant for 20 minutes and we're already fighting!" During the first pregnancy, we didn't exactly see eye to eye on many things.....but I have a feeling this time around will be a lot better since we know what to expect.

GTG - James is protesting bedtime in a BIG way.

Welcome wendstress and congrats!!!

DH and I argued so much when I was pregnant with Ava, especially over her name (I won ;) ). I'm hoping things are more peaceful this time around!

I felt really bad when I woke up this morning. I was so sick to my stomach, but have been eating crackers since I got to work and feel a little better.

Welcome to the group, wendstress and juliemag! Congratulations to both of you!! :)

Is it weird that I haven't gotten sick yet? Or is it still early? The only symptoms I've had so far are having a crampy uterus and boob soreness. I didn't even have any of that until last night when I went to get into bed and accidentally brushed my hand across my boob... WOW!!! That hurt so bad!!! haha

Other than that, my only other symptom is that I've been incredibly tired!! :(

Hi ladies! Can you add my Dr. appt on August 1? I'm going to see an endocrinologist for to make sure my thyroid is good and getting the whole slew of prenatal labs, in addition to HCG.

Happy1: about revealing your big news, I really don't think you should do it on that day, just for the reason you may "steal" some of her thunder. Maybe she's having the BBQ to tell everyone the good news?

Is there a way you can GTG with your friends a day or so later to tell them?

lauren My BFF had a very easy pregnancy, no symptoms at all besides her big belly! I hope we all have a pregnancy like that! I was very sensitive to BCP when I first started taking them (nausea, aches, etc...) and I'm praying it wont be this way now with all the influx of hormones to come.
...

As far as symptoms for me:
-very mild waves of nausea
-slight cramping like I'm going to get AF
-enhanced sense of smell when I walked into the grocery store. I smelled the cantaloupes like the it was a stench!

I've already told my best friend and some other friends. As far as our parents I think we'll wait at least a week, until after my appt. My in-laws are very gossipy and I know that if we tell them they'll blab it to everyone :( On the other hand I know my mom won't. I wish I could tell her NOW but we agreed to wait and tell them together

Hey ladies! I wanted to ask you all if you're actually starting to feel and look pregnant? Sometimes I think it's all in my head but I actually feel pressure and my abdomen seemed to be getting thicker. I went to the bookstore tonight and did some quick reading and found out that it's the increase of progesterone. It affects and expands your bowels so thats why you may feel gassy and bloated. Just thought anyone was interested in that tidbit because I know my bulge is definitely not the baby! :)

Congrats & welcome ieducate!

Married: I've found that if I eat a few crackers as soon as I feel sick, I feel better right away. If I try to let it pass, it only gets worse.

ind0fl1p: I like that reasoning better than mine that my fat is just all pushing out! I do think I'll start showing quickly though, since this is my second and I couldn't button my favorite jeans when getting dressed for a date w/DH tonight.

I've had a fantastic day. My group of girlfriends & their kids (3) came up today for a bbq and pool party. It was a lot of fun to float around the pool and gossip with the girls. My MIL came by and picked up DD for a bday party and to spend the night, so DH and I got to go on a movie date! It's been about 2 months since that's happened! My stomach, or rather the muscles I suppose around my stomach are hurting really bad today. I'm sure it's my body growing but I remember it happening much later with Ava (DD). Or maybe I just think it was? Don't know, but I do know my jeans were squishing my stomach tonight so I had to use a rubber band to hold them together and I've ordered some cute jeans online from Old Navy to be prepared!

MarriedaGoalie

ind0fl1p: I've been noticing those feelings a little bit (not too badly yet, though). I don't really think I have a pooch yet, but I do feel like my stomach is a bit tighter than it was. I am actually going to start doing some situps tomorrow. I read that doing situps during your first trimester helps to strengthen your abdomen muscles that you will desperately need during labor and delivery. Of course, after the first trimester, it really isn't a good idea (although then you can start doing side situps). So, I have a couple more months to help strengthen my ab muscles. Wish me luck. :)

Thanks for the info on the gassiness and bloatiness (if those are words). :)

lauren f s: Well, mine was when I very first woke up this morning, but it subsided quickly so I didn't really have to worry about it too much. Thanks for the tidbit, though. I need to go to the store and have some stuff on hand just in case, though.

Also, this morning, I took my first prenatal vitamin. My neighbor just had a baby and had some left over from when she was pregnant with her son. (I normally wouldn't take things that aren't prescribed for me, but she's a pharmacist, so I'm not too worried about it.) I had been taken 800 mcgs of folic acid every morning, but decided that since I know I am pregnant now, that I should actually start taking a prenatal vitamin. There are enough in there to tied me over until the doctor prescribes me something at my appointment in a couple of weeks. (I'm getting really ansy about this appointment, btw. :D )

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! :D

ind0fl1p - I am also feeling very bloaty and gassy. I was wondering what actually causes that! Thanks for the info!

Lauren f s - your bbq sounds like a lot of fun!

marriedagoalie - I just started taking the prenatal vitamins as well. Although I just bought the generic brand from Target - I hope that's sufficient! I feel pretty clueless about this stuff!

My other symptoms include REALLY sore bbs, backache, full feeling in abdomen, and slight twinges of pain just below my bellybutton.

I haven't felt any waves of nausea yet (knock on wood!)... but I'm sure it's still too early to get the real thing yet.

We told my parents yesterday! It was reallly cute. I gave them a little bag with a beanie cap inside and my mom took it out and said "AHHH YOU'RE PREGNANT???!!" and dad did a double take and was like "WHAAT?!"... then mom proceeded to scream over and over! haha. Then we all were laughing and giddy for the next couple minutes. It was really cute. Literally 2 minutes after I told them, my mom was like "ok, what should we buy?" Gotta love parents! :p

Symptoms so far: I've definitely had crampiness and boobs that are a little sore, but nothing to write home about. Some nausea here and there. I've felt pretty energetic, so that's good, but the constipation (sorry TMI!!!!) is kicking my arse. I was doubled over with gas pains yesterday -- no fun. :(

Lots of congrats whitlockan and ali_ohli & welcome!!

Married: I bought some generic prenatal vitamins at Target in May, just before we started TTC. My dr told me the only difference between prescription & non is the amount of folic acid (prescription has more). He hasn't give me a prescription yet, but I've got the vitamins I already bought, plus folic acid, and about 20 samples he gave me. I figure I'm set.

juliemag: Love your parents' reaction! That's so sweet!

Ava (DD) is still with MIL and my house is nice and quiet. I slept in this morning (heaven!) and just got back from the gym. It's nice going early in the day, instead of waiting for naptime or DH to distract her. I'm thinking of going through all her old baby clothes today and setting out anything neutral (white/yellow/green) and seeing what all we'll need, equipment-wise (car seat, swing, etc).

It's going to be great to get to know you all! I'm having a blast watching everyone trickle in!

Symptoms: None, really. I didn't have much M/S with James, but I did have a lot of mild nausea, starting at around 6 weeks. I'm a little tired, but we had a big weekend and DH is tired too, so I can't blame that on PG!

Boobs did hurt a lot the first time around, but nothing now....but basically I weaned James last Thursday, the day I got my BFP. He's almost 15 months, and mid-August was my tentative stopping point...we were just down to 1/day.... I'm happy to be done, but a little sad that I didn't get to have a congratulatory MARGARITA before getting PG again! That's OK, I'm happy to be PG.

Is anyone else super grouchy? I'm not sure if it's the pg hormones, or just me...but its so not like me... ugh.

And...we told my parents tonight. We got Nic a shirt that says "Hey Everyone. I have big news. I am going to be a big brother. Spring 2007". We go to dinner at my parents every Sunday night, so we thought we'd get there and make an entrance...so we get there...make the rounds, say hi (we went late so everyone else would already be there)... NO ONE NOTICED. My brother was tickling his tummy... dad got on the floor right in his face... NOTHING. Finally, after dessert.. my mom was holding him. I got her reading glasses and told her to put them on. She was still confused, so I pushed his shirt down... FINALLY she got it... she cried...I started to cry, and then Nic LOST IT... looked from mom to me, then started bawling too... so that got me laughing... apparently, in Nic's mind...its only ok for Nic to cry... We got a great reaction from everyone, after the duh factor...

I had that with DC#1 - a few days of just a little spotting...probably lasted 3 days after I got my BFP. I had a little spotting last Friday, so I wasn't suprised or nervous. There is a technical term for it, but it is the uterus getting rid of dead blood cells.

Welcome whitlockan, ali_ohli, mili04 and SarahKatG! It's gonna be fun getting to know you all!

happy1: what a cute way to tell your family! Thats so funny now noone noticed. We plan on telling out parents this weekend over lunch.

As far as spotting, none for me. I read somewhere that dark blood is spotting, which is normal, but if it's bright red, you need to go to the hospital immediately.

Prenatals: I was taking CVS brand prenatals which were fine but my OB kept pushing using RX ones. Now that I'm actually pregnant I probably will. She gave me 7 day samples of about 10 different prenatals and asked me to find one I liked. So far I'm taking the Citracal RX prenatals. What I like about them is the calcium content (i dont get enough), the smell (smells like sugar) and the stool softener built into each pill...

Just FYI: I'm also a pharmacist so if anyone has any questions on meds I'd be happy to help :)

Welcome mili04 and SarahKatG. It is so nice to have you both on the thread.

Prenatals: I am on prescription vitafol (sp?). I was on OTC ones for a year before I was even really trying to get pregnant and then my ob put me on prescription once we (my dh and I) told her we were really ready to get pg. She gave me many samples too, like you ind0fl1p, but honestly I didn't notice much difference in any of them. When I ran out of the samples, I called the office and told the nurse to give me a prescription for any of them, as long as it was just one pill. (Some of the samples were multiple pills). I take so many other pills already that one more would have put me over the edge. :)

Mood: Well, it is somewhat hard to tell my mood because unfortunately I have always had some mood swings now and then. I can say that my mood lately has been similar to PMS time for me. That is also how my dh described it. I have been lucky enough to blame my "snappiness" on hormones and he buys it and lets me off the hook. :) He has been super supportive...I hope it stays that way for the next 8 months. :) happy1nuv: I would really say that with an increase of hormone level every 48-72 hours it is no wonder that pregnant women all over the world aren't doing more damage. :) I can't imagine how it must feel to those who are pg. with twins/multiples, as their hormone level goes up even higher. I am actually embracing the pms like mood because I do think it's because of an increase in hormone, which is great news about how the baby is doing. Hope this helps.

Anyway, back to bed for me, as it is almost 3 in the morning and I just woke up with a stomach ache. Now I am feeling a bit better so I will try and get some more sleep. Talk to you all in the real morning. :)

I haven't had any spotting yet (knock on wood)... but from what I hear ali_ohli, brown spotting is totally normal. Just the eggie burrowing into your lining.

I'm scared... I woke up this morning actually feeling "less pregnant." Last couple weeks I've woke up feeling like I'm a furnace, bloated/gassy, and my boobs are sore. (Sorry if TMI!) But this morning I'm not hot at all, not feeling nauseated, my boobs don't hurt as much and I actually feel "thin." Now I'm more into the day and I definitely feel different, like more pre-pregnant normal. No bleeding though.

I took my temp too and it's gone down a little bit (I was charting previously). My temp tomorrow should give me more insight into anything bad going on. I know I'm being paranoid but I'm scared :(

Pregnant women and worrying-too-much go together like peanut butter and jelly. I wouldn't call it paranoia for a second!

FWIW, I don't feel one ounce PG. No bloating. Not overly tired. No sore boobs. No nausea. Nada. Nothing.

Except that I took another HPT last night and it was dark as can be.... Take another HPT if you're worried! Or talk to your OB's nurse, for starters. My OB's nurse is wonderful, and would always talk to me about anything!

I felt the same way when I was pregnant with Ava. I would stress out so much before each dr's appt, then relax once I heard her heartbeat. Then a day or two later it would start until my next appt. I finally got some peace once she started moving around all the time! It's natural to worry. It's what mom's do.

This pregnancy is so different from my previous one. Then I was sick all the time and super grouchy. Now I'm very pleasant and constantly hungry and I feel pretty good. My stomach is definitely growing already, which from what I've read is completely normal for a 2nd pregnancy. Still hard to accept, but I'm trying not to stress over it!

I'm feeling really happy and positive about this pregnancy so far. I had a
miscarriage at the end of January, though, so I'm hoping that I'm not getting too
excited too soon.

No symptoms yet except cramping a few days ago, fatigue, and maybe feeling morning sickness, and could my pants be tight already?! I also weaned my daughter a few days before we found out! I get 9 months off, yay!

Lots of congrats ameigh!! I've read everywhere that you get big faster w/your 2nd pregnancy & my pants are certainly more snug than they were a few weeks ago!

My post got eaten......

Welcome, Ameigh!

Lauren, I love the photo! We're doing something similar... We're going to frame this and give it to the Grandparents in mid-August:

It dawned on me today that my chances are very high that this baby will be born in March. James was 6lbs+1oz, 6 weeks early! So, if I can manage to carry to term, I have a tendency for BIG babies, and I don't think my Dr. would let me go that big. Time will tell.

Is it to early to talk about names? I have a dilemma... If James had been a girl, he would have been named Jade Alexandra. I still love that name, and we'd like to use it if we have a girl. I'm afraid it would be strange to have to children with the names James and Jade. Does that sound weird?

Cute pictures, lauren and wendstress!

Married, I hope your pains go away soon. Maybe it's just the baby burrowing in deeper.

Other than peeing constantly today, I don't feel pregnant at all. I told DH tonight I almost want morning sickness to start so I feel something. Until then, I'm keeping all of my HPT's lined up on the bathroom counter. Those BFP's are the only things convincing me I am pregnant. ind0fl1p, I stopped temping as soon as I got the BFP because I know I would stress over any drop at all.

Threadmistress, I have my first dr. appointment on August 15.

Great pictures lauren_f_s and wendstress.

Welcome ameigh. Glad to have you join us.

Ladies, I am a mess. I find myself getting so anxious about once every other day or so. It usually happens right as I am about to go to sleep and then I start feeling like I am losing the baby...again. Every time I have the slightest pain or discomfort I think "this is it". I try to talk myself through the anxiety and tell myself that this pregnancy is different than the last and that there is no reason to believe that I am losing this baby, but it doesn't seem to help. I wish my appt. to see the heartbeat were sooner than two and half weeks from now. AGH. I check to see if my bbs hurt every two minutes it seems. If I am not nauseous I start to worry. What do you do to calm yourself and not panic about having a m/c? I can't go on like this for another 8 months...it will kill me. I feel like a basket case and I just want to enjoy this and not freak out. My numbers were good last week and I should take solice in that, but for some reason I am just nervous...Perhaps because I started losing my baby at 5 weeks 5 days, which is where I am tomorrow. I think it is mind over matter and I know my mind is playing tricks on me for sure, but whatever it is sure freaks me out. Any advice?

Thanks for the welcome wishes!

Cute photos lauren f s and wendstress! We're planning to do something along those lines. We got this shirt from http://www.cookiebabyinc.com/big_sis_big_bro/design-135-400.html for DD to wear when we see the ILs. That should be next week!

I'm still not really feeling pg either but this time I don't mind. With DD I wanted to feel ANYTHING to confirm I was pg. Once it hit, though, I had about 7 weeks of BLEH! For now I'll relish my last days/weeks of feeling normal and actually get stuff done!

mili04: When I was newly pregnant with my daughter, I didn't really feel anything until day 40, when my morning sickness kicked in (and didn't ever go away until she was born)! I don't know if that helps, but that's what I keep reminding myself about when I start feeling like I'm not really pregnant.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who hangs onto those tests for a few days. :)

ieducate, I had a miscarriage in January, and I know that it's difficult to not concentrate on every little thing you feel and think the worst. I've read that most women go on to have successful pregnancies after a miscarriage, and another way to think about it is that you know that you can get pregnant (which is a good thing!). I have friends who can't at all, naturally...they have to have tons of fertility treatment. For me, I feel uber-positive about this pregnancy for some reason. I have to wonder if it's because the last pregnancy caught me by surprise, and I never felt very attached. I felt sad and grieved, but I kind of had to keep going with my life, since I have my daughter. I hope that I'm not getting too attached this time around, but I just tell myself that I'll deal with whatever the future brings when it happens. Anyway, these are all things that I tell myself, and it looks like just about everyone on the board is experiencing the same fears. You're not alone!

Hugs, ieducate, I wish I could help you. I was so nervous with DD! First, I was convinced it was a blighted ovum, then that it was ectopic. I worried why I wasn't sick (didn't last long). Then I just wanted to finish the first trimester. Then I worried why I wasn't feeling movement when others were. Then the stress of the big ultrasound. It all turned out ok, though. One thing that helped me was to remember how many babies have been successfully born. Surely if billions of other women could do it, so could I. Easier said than done, but I hope you are able to enjoy your pregnancy. As much as I freaked out, I missed being pregnant when I was done. It really is an incredible time in our lives!!

Very cute photo wendstress! Everyone will love that!

I'm going to have to take a belly shot because this is crazy, I can't wear pants/skirts that button anymore. My belly is very clearly out there already. It's a good thing I've told my co-workers & friends; if I hadn't, they'd be figuring it out pretty soon anyway.

I got to work this morning & apparently looked hungry. Our receptionist gave me saltines and cheez-its, another girl gave me jolly ranchers (don't know how that's supposed to help me!), and another friend gave me a fruit & yogurt parfait from McDonalds! I'm getting awfully spoiled - and I like it ;)!

Hi ladies, just dropping in for a quick update. I'm retiring the thermometer. I took my temp one last time this morning and it pretty much stayed at the same spot, which I was happy about. At least it didn't go down even more.

I don't want to be paranoid all the time. If it happens it happens right? I'm just scared to be hopeful and overly excited when its so soon so I guess I'm just expecting the worst. Bad, I know.

But last night I was definitely a furnace which was a good sign and I still feel "normal" which is good I guess. Better this than sick right? Have a great day!

Names ~ Two J's don't sound that bad to me, but one of the baby naming books I was reading said that it was very 50's and outdated (blah to them... it was the Beyond Jennifer and Jason book, I think, which I am not really liking anyway)... My dilemma is that we had a REALLY HARD time picking a boys name for Nic... and I've found another name that I REALLY like. Luciano (nicknamed Luc). BUT, we named the dog Luca (nicknamed Luc). Everyone knows the dog. I'd just change the dog's name, but every time we called the baby (if its a boy) Luc, the dog would come running... ugh!

SaraKat ~ We ordered a shirt from cookiebaby too :) Great idea!

wendstress ~ I am SO stealing your idea...LOVE IT... we were going to take a picture of Nic in his cookiebaby shirt for my il's (used the shirt for my family) but I like that pic better (and its a bit more obvious, which is always good)... Tired?...tired is my middle name these days. I am so tired that by the end of the day I probably sleep more hours than I am awake. I am using this time to rest and sleep whenever needed because as soon as school starts up again, I have to work, work, work and I usually work very long hours. I am literally so tired during the day that just walking up and down the stairs can be a chore. AGH...I really hope to get some energy in the second trimester. I am also hoping that some of my m/s goes away or at least lessens before I go back to work in about 4 weeks. I find myself nauseous pretty much all day on and off. That is not condusive to a teaching environment. I do not actually get sick, but feel nauseous all the time. :( My worst seems to be around 5pm, which is great news for my dh because it means that I won't still be at work, but rather will be driving very fast to come home and be more comfortable. Anyway, still two weeks away from first appt. and u/s. I can't wait. Tomorrow is a big day for me because I lost my last pregnancy at 6 weeks. (Well, actually I started losing it before 6 weeks, but we didn't know it until 6 weeks when I started having pains). Anyway, feeling very pregnant so I think we are progressing nicely. I am quite pleased at that. I have great hopes for this pregnancy, but will definitely be more at ease once I see that h/b.

Exercise: :( I am lucky to be awake long enough to eat let alone exercise. I hope to have some energy soon and be able to start walking again on my treadmill.

Just wanted to pop in with some good news!

My 2nd round of beta numbers from yesterday:

19 dpo: 1,293!! Progesterone was 26.4! :D

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

herewego

Juliemag you just read my mind!

Can people please share their blood test numbers? I know everyone's numbers are different depending on how far along they are, but I'm just curious to benchmark.

My blood draw was on Monday at 4w6d (20DPO). I went in due to spotting and everything looked good during my exam and u/s.

Progesterone=18.8
Beta=11,494.9

I'm still spotting and am beginning to wonder if my progesterone is low? My doc was happy with it, so I'm not really concerned, but if spotting continues I may request a new blood test to make sure my levels aren't dropping.

Also, are people still temping in the morning to look out for falling temps?

lauren f s
08-03-2006, 08:08 AM
I didn't request my blood test numbers, but was told everything was good and that's enough for me. I never took my temp, just watched my CM, so I'm clearly not temping now!

Is anyone else having trouble sleeping at night? I'm exhausted all day and when it comes time for bed, I'm restless and cannot seem to fall into a deep sleep. And even once I'm asleep I still wake up 2-3 times during the night. I know I had trouble sleeping when pg with Ava, but I don't think it started this early!

Oh crap Juliemag! Don't scare me like that!

I have a feeling that I may have ovulated before Fertility Friend says I did because I also got my BFP at 9DPO which is really early to be able to get a positive test. I have my first official appointment in two weeks so I'll find out more for sure.

We'll see...

That's exactly what I was thinking! TWINS!

herewego
08-03-2006, 09:15 AM
Does anyone know when you can see twins? (Now you guys have me worried!) Because I did have an u/s on Monday and there was definitely only one yolk sac. In fact, I remember thinking "oh good-there is only one in there!" Wouldn't we have seen two by then? (I was almost five weeks.)

I'm thinking that the high levels may mean that I am further along--but wouldn't the doc have noticed that on the u/s also?

Now I'm confused! :D

I haven't been having a difficult time sleeping, but I did wake up in the middle of the night last night to go to the bathroom (which I never do, so that was weird). Still so tired... poor DH hasn't gotten any in like 5 days and I know he's feeling deprived. I feel bad, but I'm just not motivated these days. :(

I'm so excited for my doctor's appointment! It's a week from today and then we can FINALLY tell everyone about the pregnancy. (My parents don't even know yet.) I can't wait!! :)

08-03-2006, 09:19 AM
Wendstress in answer to your question...at 9DPO my test was pretty clear-I had no doubts once I saw it. The second line took a few minutes to pop up (in fact I walked away thinking it was negative, only to be majorly surprised when I returned to the bathroom!) I took a digital after that and "pregnant" came up right away. No need to wait another few days for confirmation....I was definitely positive.

juliemag
08-03-2006, 11:00 AM
herewego - woops! I didn't mean to scare you!! Based on what you've said about your tests, you probably ovulated just a few days earlier that you thought. I'm not sure an u/s that early could really distinguish that sort of variance though - the baby was still a lil' thing at that point!!

Okay, you girls have been busy posting away today. :)

Herewego, I was thinking the same thing...that your numbers were much higher than mine at that time, but again, perhaps you are further along than you thought and/or perhaps your numbers are just high. Here are my numbers as they were taken last.

At 12 dpo I was at 57
At 14 dpo I was at 173 (which was great news for us since it more than tripled in 48 hours)
At 20 dpo I was at 2676 (which we also took as great news).

My ob has not agreed to send me for any further blood tests as she thinks it unnecessary. I was disappointed that I couldn't get one for today (6 weeks because I was only at 880 last time at 5 weeks 6 days and I wanted to see the number in comparison. However, as the doctor says, one pregnancy does not compare to another and so far things look really good for this one. I am crossing my fingers so tight everyday that I am surprised they don't fall off. I feel pretty good about the numbers for now, but would like to know that they are still going up and not down. I am assuming that since I am still feeling nauseous every day and my bbs are still KILLING me that the numbers are fine, but we will not know anything until the 17th of this month when we have the first u/s. I CAN'T wait for that. I am hoping that she won't have any problems seeing the h/b on the 17th and all will be fine.

Also, at 12 dpo I could barely see the line, but it was definitely there. The blood test confirmed I was pregnant and I only did one other test the day after...that line was perfectly clear.

Sleep: I could sleep all day, but at night I toss and turn and feel dehydrated almost every time I am about to go into bed. AGH. Plus, my dh and I have had to sleep in the guest room because our bedroom had to be repainted due to all the storms in June and a suddenly leaky roof. :( I miss my king sized bed, instead of the queen sized bed we are in now. :( We are hoping to go back into our bedroom tomorrow, but I am so nervous about inhaling any leftover fumes while pregnant. Normally I wouldn't worry about it so much. It has been since Tuesday since they painted so hopefully tomorrow night won't be a problem.

I gotta run as I am feeling very dizzy all of a sudden...which has not happened in a long time. (Didn't have any red meat today with high iron, probably the problem). :(

Hi Ladies,

The last few days have been an emotional roller coaster for me. I think I wrote about the spotting I had the week before my BFP. Well, I went in to the doctor the same day (last Friday) for a blood test to be sure. Doctor says he will call on Sunday with the results b/c he will be in the office. By Tuesday, he hadn't called, so I had a friend look up the results. It was a qualitative blood test and it was....negative! I was so upset and confused. DH and I met at home for lunch and took another HPT, which immediately came up positive. So I called the doctor's office back and talked to a different doctor. She said their blood test was so sensitive and more trustworthy than an HPT so for sure I wasn't pregnant. I pushed and she ordered a quantitative test. I had it done that day, and got the results on Wednesday. I'm definitely pregnant! The doctor's excuse - maybe the first test they did just wasn't sensitive enough. Anyway, I made my first prenatal appointment and it is NOT with either of the doctors I dealt with during this incident.

Anyway, the good news is I am much calmer about everything since then. I'm not stressed about anything with the pregnancy because I have complete trust in my body to do whatever it needs to do.

I hope everyone here is doing well!

Mili - I read your post right before I went to work and have been thinking about you all morning! What a roller coaster to think your pregnant, be told you aren't, only to POAS and get a +, and then to finally have "official" confirmation. Like our hormone-laden bodies can handle all that at this point! (((HUGS))) Glad you found some peace along the way....

ieducate - great betas! Hope the dizziness passed!

Montaukbea - WELCOME!!!!

So TIRED! It didn't help that James had his 15-month WBV yesterday and got shots. He usually gets a little grumpy afterwards, and he woke up at 4 AM with some very definite opinions. He WOULD NOT go back to sleep in his crib, so I slept with him in the rocker until 7. Man oh man.... WHen will we ever sleep well again?

happy1nuv

mili ~ That's insane. Ugh...can you avoid those drs the entire time, or will you have to see them again?

ieducate ~ if it makes you feel any better, I painted the nursery (just the decorative stuff, dh did the major colors on the walls) while pg and Nic is just fine... I know its controversial, but I wanted to make the nursery special, but we had issues conceiving last time around, so I felt that painting the nursery before would have jinxed us... (It took me probably a month or so of doing an hour or so a night to get it all done... )

I got my bloodwork results back today and everything looks great!

Taken at 14 dpo:
HCG - 223
Progesterone - 33

I was especially relieved to see a nice progesterone level because of some issues with DD's pregnancy (To make a long story less long, my progesterone level was on the low side according to my doc at 17. They also discovered that my corpus luteal cyst was larger than it should have been at 6cm. They put me on Prometrium which made me sick, hoping that it would help the cyst shrink. It didn't, the cyst got up to 10cm and I was almost being scheduled for surgery at 20 weeks because at 11 weeks the cyst twisted on my ovary and I ended up in the ER. At 18 weeks it finally started to shrink.) A good progesterone level is a nice place to start and I'll have an ultrasound next Tuesday to make sure the cyst won't be reappearing.

mili04, I'm so glad everything is straightened out! What an awful thing to go through.

Can't wait to find out who in here is having twins!!!!

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Welcome to the thread and congratulations to Cohl and Montaukbea!! How excited I am for the both of you!!!

Nothing really new for me lately. I've actually had a bit of energy, which is good. It's different than the way things have been. My doctor's appointment is on Thursday and the days can't come fast enough for that. I am mondo-excited about that! I'll be relieved to finally be able to tell everyone!!! :)

Welcome Cohl and Montaukbea. Glad you are both joining us.

I have nothing new to report today, except that as happy as I am to be pregnant, I am so tired of being nauseous all day, every day. :( I wake up every night feeling ill and I wake up every morning feeling ill. I usually go to sleep feeling just okay, but all the other times it's ugh. :( I am looking forward to the second trimester when m/s is no longer. I am also looking forward to the day when I feel some energy and don't feel the need to sleep ALL the time. :)

Hope everyone is well. My dh and I just got back from seeing Pirates of the Caribbean. It is mediocre at best. :( I was sad it wasn't better. Talk to you all later...probably around 3am when I am awake with illness. :(

Lots of congrats & welcome to Montaukbea and Cohl!!

ieducate: What have you tried for your upset stomach? With Ava, pretzels, saltines, and orange sherbet worked wonders for me. I've only been sick a handful of times with this one, but popciscles help a lot. Play around and see if you can find something that will help!

We spent yesterday out shopping. It's no sales tax weekend, so we stocked up on goodies for us and Ava. I've bought 2 pairs of maternity jeans, one from Old Navy & one from Gap. They both have a roll panel and are the tiniest bit big, but overall fit really well. It's nice not having to squeeze into jeans. Most of my other work clothes fit, since I lost about 10 pounds before I got pg. So yesterday I focused on getting some shirts that would fit well and accentuate my growing stomach so I'd look pg and not fat. It worked!

Welcome Cohl!
Is that what people call you irl? I think that is a GREAT nickname for nicole if it is... :) (I really like the name Nicoletta for a girl, and since our first was dominic, nicknamed nic, I can't really use it... but nicoletta nicknamed cohl... woohoo...it's back on the table!

So, since I'm talking names... I've fallen in LOVE with a boys name that my dh HATES... I'm not ready to give it up. Any suggestions? (Salvatore Roberto ... Salvatore is my fathers middle name, Robert is his fathers first name.... )... {SIGH}

Lauren, don't seem to have found the "one" thing to stop the m/s yet. I have tried crackers of different sorts, sweets, popsicles, italian ice, cheese...it all seems to depend on the day and time of day. However, I will keep trying to find that one thing that works.

Sometimes I wake up and I don't feel sick at all...and then BAM!...it hits me like a ton of bricks. :( I usually spend the rest of the day feeling nauseous on and off...but pretty much on. The only time I am not nauseous is when I am sleeping, which I do A LOT of. My dh seems to think that I am in a cacoon most of the time and that he hardly sees me awake these days. He's kind of right. :( I figure once I am back at work in 3 weeks that I won't be able to nap so I will have to stay awake. The problem is, that when I get home from work I will probably crash and not wake up until the next morning. Poor dh gets no attention. :(

I guess I've been pretty lucky so far. *knocks on wood* I really haven't felt sick much at all, other than every once in a while I will get a little queasy, but if I grab something to eat or drink some water, then I am. Believe it or not, water has been my lifesaver. Is that weird? If my stomach is feeling a little off, then I have some water and it feels totally fine... Weird, huh?

happy1nuv,

Yeah, that what they call me in real life. I had to get away from Nikki, and my DH's son couldn't say Nicole...so Cohl it was. I have grown quite fond of it! Thanks! And I think Salvatore is an adorable name. I can't let my guard down far enough to even let myself think about names yet.

I'm obsessing about a boys name. Last time we had a nice long list of girls names, but a short list of one boys name (that dh didn't like). Well, we had a boy. This time, I'm not even thinking of girls names... do you think thats a sign?

My dad, who swears (and he did ask the day after I got my bfp if i was pg) that he knew i was pg... says girl, but he's praying for a boy. Everyone else so far has predicted boy...

Ok..please tell me I am not alone here. Does anyone else feel like a complete paranoid psycho right now? My DH has told just about EVERYONE that we are expecting again and now I am waiting for the rug to get ripped out from beneath me. I don't know why. I wanted to at least wait until I went to the doctor but he was so excited. Now I feel like I am obsessing about the silliest little things. I don't remember being this nuts when I was pg with Bryelle. I so don't want to get too excited because I am just waiting for something bad to happen. Can the first trimester be over already?? LOL

Thanks to everyone for making me feel so welcome!

That's kinda funny because my neighbors said the same thing. They said that they for sure had a boy's name picked out, but couldn't come up with a girl's name for the life of them (so that's what they kept concentrating on). Well, they ended up having a boy. I hope this theory is right because we have a girl's name picked out for sure but can't come up with a boy's name for the life of us. Funny how that works, huh? Maybe it's intuition or something?

Cohl... Oh, honey, don't stress. I'm sure everything will be fine. Lately I've been thinking that things aren't going to go well for us and I'm not sure why. Last week I went to the doctor with a bladder infection and I don't feel like it's gone away, but then again I don't know for sure if it was a bladder infection (eventhough they went ahead and gave me some antibiotics) because they didn't do an urine analysis when I went in. They took my urine, but never told me what that determined. Is that bad? I'm definitely going to be asking my doctor about that on Thursday. WOW, I can't believe it's only 4 days until my doctor's appointment!! Yay!!

Cohl dear, you are so not alone. I feel like I am stressing so much (which I don't want to do) about everything. Especially because I had a m/c in April, I feel like every ache and pain...every pull on a muscle near my uterus is a sign that I am losing the baby. I feel like every time I don't feel nauseous beyond belief is another sign. I check to see if my bbs hurt so often that I am probably causing them to hurt most of the time. :( This is the furthest I have made it in my pregnancies and so I am overjoyed, but I really wish that I was at my 8 week appt. to see that h/b already. To tell you the truth, I wish I were like 8 1/2 months pregnant already so that I would feel less worry about being pregnant...I am sure I would have plenty of other things to worry about by then. :) I can't offer any solution to your worry, but I can tell you that you are not alone and that from what everyone tells me...stress is no good for the baby and what will happen will happen. I am trying to remind myself of that every time I feel stressed and trying to take deep breaths and relax. Easier said than done, but soon I will have a healthy baby. I do feel pretty good about this pregnancy so far and have been beyond nauseous every second of the day...so that must be a good sign. :) Try and relax and enjoy being pregnant. (That is what my older sister just said to me a few days ago). :)

Dilemma: Well, my dh and I had our bedroom painted last Tuesday...5 days ago because of leaking from the roof. Instead of just one wall being painted where the damage was, our contractor painted the whole darn room. It looks great, except my dh and I have been sleeping the guest room since then and it is driving me crazy. It is not nearly as comfortable and I miss my own bed. Anyone else had their own bedroom painted while pregnant? If so, when did you finally move back into the room? We have had the windows open all week and done whatever possible to get the fumes out, but I still smell paint (slight as it may be, it's still there). How long do I need to stay out of that room to feel safe? I will do anything and everything to keep this baby out of harm and avoid a m/c, but gosh, how long can I stay away from my own bedroom? I REALLY miss my bed. Anyone have any suggestions and/or experience with this? The contractor said at least 24 hours and it has been way more than that. My dh has been so supportive that he continues to sleep in the guest room with me, even though he is not worried about the paint fumes anymore. I am just so paranoid. I had intended to sleep in there tonight and at the last minute couldn't do it. I got so angry that I had to be put out of my own room again. AGH. It is just so frustrating.

On a different note: My poor dh is about to kill me as my cravings for food change on a daily (sometimes hourly) basis. Today all I could think about having was Chinese food. I had been craving red meat for the last few weeks and now all of a sudden all I wanted was Chinese food. Nothing else would do. It was good too...once I baggered my dh into ordering it. Tomorrow...well, that could be something different alltogether. Who knows. It remains a mystery...and a very hard thing to deal with when trying to plan meals for the week.

Cohl, I am sorry you are so stressed out. As you can see from all the responses, you are obviously not alone! What helped me to stop stressing so much is to realize my worries wouldn't have any effect on how things are going to turn out.

ieducate, your bedroom is probably fine to sleep in by now since it has been almost a week. But, there is no need to sleep there until you feel comfortable with it.

Question: For those of you who work outside the home, when do you plan to tell work? I was planning to tell after my first appointment, but now I think I might wait until I hear the baby's heartbeat.

Welcome Cohl!

QOTD - Telling work: I think I will probably have to tell my boss sooner rather than later. I think she's already on to me b/c I had to suddenly stop going to weight watchers with no good excuse, and also she's my workout buddy and I've been pretty slack! Other than telling her, I'll probably wait until 10 weeks to tell everyone else.

Names discussion: DH and I have a long list of boys names we like, but are really struggling with girls names. Thankfully we have 1 or 2 girls names that we both agree on, so it's not a total wash!

Sick?: Thankfully *knock on wood* I have not felt any queasiness or morning sickness yet. However, if my bbs get anymore swollen or huge... I will be at a loss for words. Seriously ya'll, they are off the chain. I expect once I hit 6 weeks (Friday)... I will begin to feel the effects of this pgcy more and more!

QOTD: I told my work the day I found out. I hadn't planned on it, but a couple of co-workers knew we were TTC and when I got into work after testing one *knew* once she looked at me. Of course I caved and told. Then I had to ask for an afternoon off work to go to the dr and had to tell my boss b/c it was the 3rd time in 2 weeks and I didn't want her to think I was just trying to leave for no reason. By the time I told her, the office knew. I've been taken to lunch, given a cake party (they live for cake parties, here), and am being fed all day. I'm fine with them knowing now, and even if I hadn't told it would be obvious since my belly is growing at an alarming rate!

Names: We have a girls name, but no boy. DH gets to pick this baby's name, since I picked Ava's. He hated the name, said it sounded too much like an old lady's name. It was my grandmother's name and I knew she'd have that name. I kept persisting, along with my family & IL's helping, and he caved. So, now he gets to pick this baby's name and I get to pick the middle name. I'm still reserving the right to veto any boy name I don't like, though. ;)

I bought a scale this weekend to monitor my weight. I'm eating all day long, it seems, but somehow have not gained a pound. I'm thrilled because I was afraid I'd put on a good 5 pounds since learning I was pg. I just had Dorito's for breakfast. They were so good!

Telling work ~ I'm not working now, but last pg, I waited until I hit the 2nd trimester before I shared the news. Good luck to all telling bosses...I dreaded telling him right up til after I shared the news... (it was no big deal afterwards) but, I was friendly with my boss (LOVED him as a boss) but we weren't friends, so it came out of left field...

Welcome Deidra!!

QOTD I have told one girl at work and will probably have to tell another one on Wednesday because I am working with her and have to leave @2 for my first doctors appointment.

I see my midwife for the first time on August 21 but I told them I would go nuts if I had to wait that long. So I have an appointment with my regular OBGYN on Wednesday and then the one with my midwife later in the month. I need to at least hear the doctor tell me when I am due.

Congrats Diedra! Glad you could join us!!

QOTD We work from home and our partners are our friends so we told them right away. Actually, I tested at 9dpo because we were having a company dinner that night. I got a negative so I had a few martinis. Next morning was positive! They knew I would be testing that day.

As for names, we have a boy and girl name in mind but we're not set 100% the way we were with DD. Our leading boy name is Russell Dean and for a girl Alexandra, although I also like Julianne but DH doesn't.

Ultrasound tomorrow!!!

QOTD I just started a new job three weeks ago, so I won't be telling anyone anything until at least 12 weeks. The tricky part is that I've had some complications and have had to leave the office several times to see the doctor. I told my boss that I'm absolutely fine, but that I'm dealing with a sensitive medical issue right now that might continue to need attention. Of course she didn't question that, but I wonder if she's on to me?

Thanks for the welcome, everyone :).

Telling - When I was pregnant with Avery I was visibly showing at 8 weeks (I had a fibroid that made it look like I was carrying twins!). We pretty much had to call and tell family immediately after our 8 week appointment when we got to see/hear the h/b. I told my boss at ~10 weeks and he basically said "DUH! The whole office has been talking about it for two weeks now!". I guess my 'condition' was *the* hot office gossip :). This time around, I'm not working so no one to let in on the little secret (except family, of course).

Symptoms - Not too many here. Sore bbs (I'm still nursing DD and it really hurts!!) and some sleepiness is about it so far.

Others think I'm carrying twins. I think I'm just getting big fast. Any other 2nd time mamas getting big quickly?

Welcome to the group, Diedra!

Sore bbs: I've only been sore off and on. Usually hurts when I get out of bed in the morning, but then I am fine all day. Last night they hurt when I was walking around the house without a bra.

When I went to the bathroom, both last night and again this morning, I noticed a little bit of a pinkish-brown tint to CM when I wipe. It is very, very faint so I think everything is probably ok. I have my first appointment next week, so as long as it doesn't get worse, I'll ask about it then. I temped this morning just for fun, and it was still way above my usual coverline. Not sure if that means anything.

08-09-2006, 11:00 AM
No one has really posted about spotting yet. Is anyone experiencing this?

A little over a week ago, I had pinkish CM which turned into brown spotting (like what happens at the end of your period) and it has continued on and off-sometimes very light, sometimes heavier since then. I haven't had any red blood, nor have I been in any serious pain-which is good.

I have gone to my OB three times now (they take spotting VERY seriously) and each time everything looks fine with my cervix & baby. Also, I continue to have pg symptoms and my betas from last Friday were fine. Finally, I continue to temp in the mornings just to make sure they stay high.

Still though, the spotting is completely unnerving and is really making me nervous! Can anyone else relate?

ETA: I see mili just posted a little about this! Hopefully others will pipe in too!

married ~ Last time around, I took dh with me to the first appt. They took me in first to fill out a bunch of paperwork, weight check, blood pressure. When I got sent to an exam room, they told me I could get dh. All I remember from that is that they did an internal exam (pap and whatever else they usually do at your yearly) and it was kinda weird to have dh there. I don't think we got to hear the h/b but I could be wrong about that... I don't think dh is coming with me this time. Well, I had my first appointment today. I have to get the typical blood work done this weekend and I am getting an ultrasound next Wednesday just to pinpoint the due date. Af hasn't been regular since I stopped feeding my DD 11 months ago so my Dr. wants to play it safe. I am not complaining!!

So,

My first ultrasound is on August 16

herewego I'm experiencing brown spotting and have been for about two weeks straight. On Sunday, I had a gush of bright red blood (and thought for sure it was the worst-case scenario), but otherwise it's just been light and brown. I've been through the same stuff you have with my doctor -- blood tests and ultrasound checked out (we even saw the heartbeat!), and they couldn't find any source of bleeding. So for now, I'm remaining optimistic, just hoping and praying I'm one of the women who has bleeding but still ends up with a perfectly healthy pregnancy. (It actually happens a lot, I'm learning.)

Spotting - don't remember where I read it, but I read that up to 25% of women can experience spotting during pregnancy and have a totally normal pregnancy.

Exhaustion - hitting hard.
Nausea - just starting a little.

Generally, though, I don't feel pregnant. We've started telling family, and I almost feel like I am lying, since I don't feel pregnant. Although, I did take my last HPT last night and the PG line was way darker than the control line, so I guess I'm PG!

MarriedaGoalie, best wishes for your appointment! DH came with me to every appointment last time and it was actually pretty nice. If I missed something or forgot to ask something he was right there. Also nice to have company when the doc is running late. I think if you want your DH there, you should give it a try.

wendstress, lol I did the same thing a few days ago. Figured I had a test left and since I didn't feel pregnant, wanted to make sure I still was. :)

Spotting - Had it with DD at like 4.5 weeks. Called the doc and she said to come right in if it turned red or got heavy. Thankfully it only lasted a day or two and everything was fine.

I had my first appointment yesterday and it was pretty boring. Technically, though, it wasn't really my first pg appointment with the doc. This was just with the ultrasound tech to check that there were no out of control cysts like last time. There weren't! She didn't see the embryonic sac but she didn't really look for it, just said it was too early. This made me a bit nervous because I know when I o'd and I know that at this point in DD's pregnancy they did see the sac. The worry never ends!

Welcome Diedra. So glad you are joining us.

Wow, you ladies have been chatting up a storm. I have been away from CC for a few days so I apologize that I haven't joined you in conversation. I just read the last few pages to try and catch myself up.

Today: I am 7 weeks today and with each new day comes some more relief from me that I have way passed where I was in the last pg. I will not feel true relief until I deliver of course, but next week at my u/s should give me some ease. :)

M/S: Still here and still kicking my a&*^. :( I am nauseous 24 hours a day pretty much. There are a few minutes here and there when I don't feel sick to my stomach, but that usually fades pretty fast. I am looking forward to just feeling pregnant, but not nauseous.

Exhaustion: This too is kicking my butt. I sleep so much that it is amazing I have any life at all. I am tired ALL the time. I go back to work in a few weeks and that is making me worried to death. How on Earth will I stand in front of 26 kids for 7.5 hours a day when I feel this tired and nauseous all the time. I am hoping that the m/s and the exhaustion will soon disappear since I will be 10+ weeks when the kids arrive on the first day.

Bbs: Killing me. Like all of the time. They feel so heavy at times that it hurts just to put a bra on. As for size...yes, they feel/look a bit bigger too. I was no small chicken in that area to begin with, so it is a little hard to tell.

Question: Is anyone having weird dreams since they got pregnant? I have totally off the wall dreams every night since I got pg. I had totally normal dreams until I got pg.

Sorry for the long post...has been a while since I was here. :(

ieducate I actually find I feel much worse when I'm just sitting around. I had a crazy day yesterday (planned a meeting for 9000+ people) and was so worried I wasn't going to be able to get through it, but I was fine. (Of course, once I got home and could relax a little, I felt like crap again!) I think you'll rise to the occasion. And it may be starting to subside by then, too.

ali_ohli I hope everything goes well with the spotting. It's disconcerting isn't it? Fortunately, my spotting has eased today and is back to being tanish CM. I'm a nervous wreck everytime I go to the bathroom, afraid that I will find red blood. Let's definitely keep each other posted so that we can support one another through it all.

In other news...the m/s has started to hit hard. Yesterday was particularly bad and so far this morning I have just felt queasy and crampy. Ick. I'm hoping this will ease in the coming days!

I am glad that I am not the only person that took their last test just to make sure..again. I too feel like I am lying when I tell people I am pg. I mean, other than being more tired than usual, the only other symptom I have is that my BBs are sore every once in awhile. No MS, but I also only got sick once the entire time I was pg with Bryelle.

I am trying so hard to eat right this time around. With DD I gained way too much weight. I really don't want to have a million pounds to lose after this baby. It is so hard, though. Food just sounds so good!! Almost makes me wish the aversions and MS would start already.

Anybody have pg brain yet? Sometimes I type my post and when I reread it I have no idea why I typed some of the words I did. They completely don't fit into what I was saying. If it is starting already, it is going to be a long 9 months!

Here is my story from my journal regarding my appointment this morning...

"So I just got back from my doctor's appointment. This morning has been a nightmare. Rob and I got up late and then he took his sweet time getting ready to leave, so we didn't end up leaving the house until 8:38 (appointment was at 9:00). Then, Rob said that he wanted to take the car he is painting for the dealership in Wichita to the shop before we went to the appointment. *sigh* Okay, so I jump in the car and hightail it to the shop. We get there and he goes, "I thought we were going straight to your appointment?" NO!!!!!!! That's not what you said!!!! I was really pissed by this time because we only had 3 minutes to get to my doctor's appointment and it was at least 15 minutes away. So, we get there and I get checked in at 9:10. They call my name and the lady tells me that they won't be able to see me today 'cuz I was there late... since they were already triple booked. I completely LOSE it because I had myself all psyched up for my appointment. I start crying... and freaking out. She said that she would see what she could do. They ended up seeing me (THANK GOODNESS). She did a swab when I was in there and gave me some paperwork. Then, they made an appointment for me to come back next week to meet with the nurse and go over some things (I'm not sure what that is about). They also made an appointment for 5 weeks so that we can hear the heartbeat. I assume they'll do an ultrasound at this time? I'm not sure... So, I have an appointment August 17th @ 11:30 and then one again September 14th @ 4pm. My doctor also gave me an estimated due date for April 3rd (I had figured April 2nd). So... finally... an end to a stressful morning.... and Rob wasn't being very helpful. I'm pretty disappointed in him. :("

Then, they made an appointment for me to come back next week to meet with the nurse and go over some things (I'm not sure what that is about). They do this at my doctors office too. Not sure if your appointment will be the same, but at my office they give you a copy of "What to Expect..." and go over your current weight/how much you should reasonably expect to gain over the course of your preganancy, general good eating tips, some questioning to make sure that you have a good home life/support system (lots of questions about drug use, smoking, drinking, abuse, habits of your partner - pretty much anything that could negatively affect your pregnancy), and a prescription for prenatal vitamins (that I never used - I just bought them OTC).

MarriedaGoalie
08-10-2006, 11:34 AM
I got a prescription for those today. They gave me... duetdha ... that's what the prescription says. I guess those are prenatal vitamins. I'm going to check to see how expensive they are before I purchase these rather than some OTC prenatals.

They also told me they would call me by 12:00 to give me my results of my tests and I haven't heard anything from them.... :(

Aw Married, I'm sorry your appointment didn't go as smoothly as you had hoped! But at least they were able to see you and get some more appts lined up!

I'm home today. I was up sick all last night and felt miserable this morning. I'm trying to relax while DH is at work and Ava is at the babysitter. I've slept - a lot - and am trying to work up the energy to clean.

Oh, here are a couple of belly shots I took this morning.

married ~ Sorry you had such a rocky appt. I don't think an ultrasound this early is a given... I only had the one at 20 weeks last time, even though a friend who went to the same drs office I did had one that early. (That could have been because she saw the drs, and I saw the midwives)... And, is anyone worried by that cnn story about ultrasounds causing brain damage?

Oh, boy. Sounds like a few rough days around here.

The spotting I posted about yesterday morning got a little heavier in the afternoon. The OB's office told me to go to the ER if it turned into red bleeding or if I got bad cramps. Well, this morning I was bleeding red. So I spent half the day in the ER. I found out my cervix is still closed, my HCG is right on target as far as doubling since it was last checked, and they could see the sac on the ultrasound. No heartbeat yet. The doctor said it still might be too early to see it. The ER wanted me to follow-up with an appointment with the OB in 24 hours, but they don't have any openings. Since I already have an appointment for Tuesday, I might just be waiting until then. Luckily, the bleeding has gone back to spotting, and I have not had any cramping.

mili - Keeping my fingers crossed that everything turns out OK.

u/s worries - Not worried. As the article points out the study was done on mice and there are obviously a lot of anatomical differences between a human and a mouse. Now, if I pulled a TomKat and had my own machine in my house that I was using on an hourly basis - then I might worry ;).

early u/s - Probably depends on your insurance coverage more than anything else. I had office u/s at my 8 and 12 week appointments last time in addition to the BIG u/s at ~20 weeks.

Lauren, how are you feeling? I hope you are better after some much needed rest.

lauren, nice belly shot!

mili, I hope everything is ok with the baby. That's reassuring that your numbers are where they should be.

u/s worries - I'm not sure about the ultrasounds. My husband worked in the autism field for 5 years and we were talking about it. He said to try to prevent autism is virtually impossible since the causes are still all speculation at this point. As for me, I think I would be comfortable with an u/s between 9-11 weeks, and another to find out the gender between 18-20 weeks... and *maybe* one more (like at my appt next week ;) ). But anymore than that, I might start to get worried that I'm harming the baby.

I'm so excited I'm 6 weeks today! It's nice to reach those mini-milestones each week, or every 2 weeks. :)

Lauren, I hope you are feeling better. Cute belly shots, btw!

Married, I'm sorry your appointment didn't go as well as you expected. Your betas sound really high - that's great!

u/s worries: I'd like to have no more than 3 - the one I had yesterday, another in a few weeks to make sure they can see a heartbeat, and then one at 18-20 weeks. But I'm not going to worry too much about having those done.

wendstress
08-11-2006, 07:11 AM
U/S worries - difficult to say. Last PG I had 1 at 8 weeks, 1 at 20, and 2 right at the end... So 4 total. This PG I'll have one at 9 weeks and one at 20 weeks, plus I'll also be scheduled to have bi-weekly U/S to check cervical position and condition from I think around 20-24 weeks to 36 weeks. I have complete confidence in my Dr. - I don't believe he'd put me in harm.

M/S - getting a tad stronger each day.

Exhaustion - YES, although compounded by the fact that James (15-months) is going through a spell of not sleeping well. Last night he was up from 2 AM to 4:30 AM, and then again at 5:30, and then up for the day at 6:30. I haven't been sleeping well, either, mind is just to overloaded...I end up having crazy dreams...

Dreams - can't remember who mentioned this, but YES, they are wild. I also had this during PG#1. Couple nights ago I was dreaming about a serial killer, 2 nights ago I was dreaming about HPTs. Can't remember last night, but I know my mind was busy!

u/s worries - I'm not too concerned. I had 3 with Ava, at 10, 25, and 30 weeks. I'll have two this time, at 16 and 28 weeks.

I'm feeling a little better today. Yesterday I was so upset at DH that I couldn't think straight! I still am a little upset at the way he acted yesterday, but I think I may have overreacted a little bit.

We told Quentin about the baby last night. He didn't really have much of a reaction, but we asked if he was excited or upset and he said upset. :( I'm sure he will get better as time goes on, but I know how much of an attention hog he is and I think that is what he is going to have the most difficult time with. We are going to Wichita this weekend to tell the family. Wish me luck... I'm really nervous about telling my parents.

I've been having a lot of dreams lately about the baby. The night before last it was that I told my parents and my mom was SUPER excited, which was a shock. Last night it was that we had the baby and it was a girl and DH decided to tell me after she was born that he didn't like the name we had picked out for a girl, so we left the hospital without her having a name. That scares me... haha

Other than that, I'm feeling fine today. Just hungry... but nothing sounds good. I've actually been wanting pickles lately. Maybe I'll have to go purchase some at the store after work today, since I get off at 3pm. :)

Hope everyone else is doing well!! :)

Any other children: Tate, 4.30.04

I'm hesitant to join, but I've been lurking for a week and decided to take the plunge. I got my BFP last Saturday and started bleeding that same day. I mean a scary ton of bright red blood. In fact, had I not known I was pregnant (and felt so pregnant) I would have assumed it was my period (I typically have heavy periods). I had heavy bleeding for three days and then it tapered off. Got my beta levels checked: on Tuesday (4w2d) it was 76, and on Thursday (4w4d) it was 171. I met with my OB yesterday and she said all the signs are good, cervix looks good, etc. She said about 1 in 4 pregnant women bleed for no reason at all.

So I'm cautiously optimistic. I feel very pregnant and the M/S has already kicked in, which I think is another good sign. I keep getting really dark lines on my HPTs. I go back in two weeks for an ultrasound to make sure there is something (someone!) in there. In the meantime, I hope it's okay I join the group.

My next appointment is August 23 for an U/S.

Nice to meet y'all! :)

Welcome Femmie! I hope everything looks good on your ultrasound. I have mine on Wednesday and I can't wait!

Nothing much going on here. I had my blood taken this morning for my first round of blood work. I am just anxiously anticipating my first ultrasound. I had one at 7 weeks with my DD to get a due date and I was looking at the pics today to get an idea of what I might see this time around. I just want to see something. My DH and I were talking this morning about how unreal it still seems. I am hoping that will make it seem like a reality finally. Anyway, time to go work on the house. We are looking to build a house before the baby comes (yes, I do believe I am crazy) and I need to get this one ready to sell. Hope everyone is feeling ok!

Welcome lil_nance and Femmie!! Congratulations! Glad you both joined the group!

Cohl, we're right with you on the craziness. We sold our house last month and moved two days ago. What's the only thing more fun than moving while pregnant? Moving twice while pregnant! This move was just to a rental since our new home won't be finished until October. I hope yours goes smoothly and you sell your house easily!

MarriedaGoalie, glad you're feeling better. I'm sure Quentin will come around. Our 18 month old is used to being the center of our universe so I know this will be tough on her, too. Welcome lil_nance and Femmie!!

marriedagoalie ~ Yeah, Nic is sooo used to being the center of attention too... He's the first grandkid on my side, second on dh's (but first local... my niece lives in ga and we're in nj) .... So, its going to be a shock for him, poor kid. He'll be around 22-23 months when the new baby gets here... I am excited to have them so close because I think it will be great in a few years, but these early years are going to be rough... One of the things that a friend did (she has 2 boys, about 2 yrs apart) was she got the older boy a boy doll (after the baby was born so she knew what sex doll to get)...one that looked like a newborn... and when mommy needed to do something with the baby, he could do stuff with his baby (diaper change, burp, bottle feed (she ff)).... I want to do that with Nic, but I'll have to get DH to get over his "My son is NOT playing with dolls" thing... :)

I too am worried about how Bryelle will react to the new baby. She loves all the attention she gets from mommy and daddy. Plus, she is the only girl grandchild so far. Everyone seems to think she is not going to take to the baby very well. I am trying to start talking to her now about what a big help she is going to be with the baby. She has her own baby so I am hoping she can take care of her baby when I take care of the new baby. It's gonna be an experience, to say the least!

SarahKatG,

So DH and I just got back from our trip to Wichita to see the family this weekend. We told everyone the big news and everyone was very excited (much to my disbelief with my parents). That is good to have it all in the open now and be able to talk openly about it. Now, I just have to decide when I am going to tell my coworkers. I'm thinking not for another week or so... but then again, why not? Everyone else knows! haha Now I wonder, should I tell my boss first or should I just tell everyone? I'm not sure how to tell everyone... and in what order (if any).

I've been so tired this weekend. I think it's because of all the traveling. I'm just worn out. I'm half tempted just to go to bed right now, but I want to wait until DH gets home from his hockey game (which doesn't start until 9:15, so he won't be home until nearly 11pm).

Hope everyone has a good week at work and welcome to the newbies... Femmie and lil_nance! Happy and healthy 9 months to both of you! :)

Welcome Femmie and lil_nance!

I'm concerned with how Ava will react to the new baby as well. She'll be 3 when the baby's born and I want to think that's a really good age. We talk to her every day about being a big sister and the baby in mommy's tummy. Last night DH convinced her she could look at the baby through my belly button . We've bought her a few books about being a big sister and I've bought her a doll (for bday or Christmas) that's a big sister doll. MIL is going to take her while we're at the hospital and is alreayd working on a big sister bag to give her. I think we're doing all we can and now just hope for the best.

Ok, I finally finished reading all the previous posts. Whew. Took another HPT today. Just wanted to check ;) . Yup, still pg. Called the dr. to alter my appt. I was originally scheduled for my annual and a mamogram. Asked to switch to OB and u/s. Not sure I'm going to get the u/s but fingers crossed. I'll be 7wk on the day of the appt.

Last night DH convinced her she could look at the baby through my belly button
Too cute! DS will only be 21mo when baby arrives so I'm not expecting him to understand too much. I do plan to BF again and that may be more of a challenge. It takes some time to get things going in the beginning and I'm sure DS will want attention, etc. while I'm trying to nurse the baby.

prenates I'm on Duet DHA. I started taking it when pg w/ DS. Stayed on it since I was BFing. Told dr. we planned on TTC when DS turned 1. She recommended just staying on it the whole time.

spotting I was "one of those women with spotting who ends up with a normal pregnancy & healthy baby". I spotted with DS at 6.5wk, 21.5wk, and I think 35wk. Went to the hospital for the last 2. It was scary, red. I felt like it was a lot but the dr. had other opinions. I had a blighted ovum prior to getting preg with DS so I tend to worry and freak out easily.

DH and appt. DH came to almost all of my early appts. When they got more frequent he skipped some. There's only so much excitement in pee in a cup, get measured, check hb after the zillionth time.

symptoms none really. I keep waiting for the exhaustion. Didn't have much ms last time. Worried everything will kick in when we go on our trip at 8wk.

hey all!

Quick question -- if I'm six weeks, two days past LMP, does that make me six or seven weeks pregnant? I ask because a friend of a friend's just revealed that she's "six weeks pregnant" due April 16, while I thought I was six weeks pregnant due April 7. Obviously, one of us is off. Who's correct?

wendstress
08-14-2006, 07:22 PM
ali - check out a due date calculator on-line for an exact answer.... BUT, if you are 6+2 weeks past the date of the start of your LMP, than you are 6+2 weeks PG. Could she be rounding up?

lil_nance - WELCOME and congrats! My DS will be 23 months when #2 comes along, it will be a challenge for sure! I had an absolutely great BFing relationship with #1, so I hope to repeat with #2.

Nausea hit in full force today. Had my annual review with my boss at lunch (Applebees)...I haven't told him yet that I am PG. I was fine throughout lunch, but nearly lost it on the drive back to my office. I work out of the home, so I headed straight for the bathroom when I got home....although I never got sick.

So far this PG is exactly like #1, so I'm thinking I'm having another BOY.

Hi everyone!

I'm new to the thread and to CC. I was on the WC years ago while planning my wedding, which is how I heard about CC. While planning my wedding I would visit the pregnancy groups and dream about one day being able to join one. So right after finding out I was pg, I had to come here and join. I'm looking forward to making new friends and finding others to share this journey with!

I'm in grad school working on my doctorate (just starting year 2 of 3) while working full-time, so this pg wasn't supposed to happen just now. It was entirely unexpected, but we are thrilled!

pg_Jess we are in the same boat. I'm in grad school too and have one more year left. This pregnancy was a BIG surprise...very unplanned, but a blessing nonetheless. DH and I are still in shock and it's beginning to hit us that we will have an infant (hopefully!) a month before I finish school which will be pretty hectic. You and I will have to exchange survival tips! :D

Welcome!
***************
My good news is that spotting has FINALLY dissipated. It was two weeks on Saturday since it started and even though I have been checked by the doc (three times!) and things are fine, the continued spotting was making me nervous.

In exchange for spotting though m/s hit hard for the first time this weekend. I have been sucking on Preggo Pop Drops and wearing Sea Bands religiously...I highly recommend to anyone who is having bad m/s. Give these life savers a try.

The last two days have been fine however. I even made it to the gym! I think its so bizarre how you can feel so rotten one day and then almost human again the next. What a roller coaster!

Questions for Doc
I have my first official visit with my OB on Weds and have been compiling my list of questions for the doctor. So far, this is what I have come up with:

*Travel (up until when, and when post partum?) Also, travel during first trimester...it is okay?
*Medication-what can I take for allergies, headaches, heartburn, constipation
*Blood/Genetics tests. Which ones will I take, and when?
*Diet & Weight Gain-what to expect, what foods to avoid etc.
*Prenatal vitamins. So far, they only have me taking folic acid (1000mg) and a One A Day multivitamin
*Massage/Spa Treatments (in first trimester)
*Skin care products-I use Proactiv w/Benzoyl
*Hospital affiliation-L&D procedures
*Mole removal (using local anethestic from Dermo)-I need to get one removed.

What other questions have people asked that have been very helpful? Any input is much appreciated!

Thanks for the welcome, Cohl and Herewego!

Herewego - I was just reading another thread about spa treatments. Everything I've seen says to wait until after the first trimester for a massage. But I think your list of questions is great. I need to start compiling my own, although my appointment isn't until August 29th.

What kind of grad school program are you in?

Welcome pg_jess!!

ali_ohli - I find some people round up when considering how far along they are in their pregnancies. I have a friend who always says she's the week ahead of what she is, because she thinks 6 weeks 3 days means she's actually *in* her 7th week. I think, however, that she would be in her 6th week. You are due one day after me, and today I'm 6w 4d - so you'd be 6w 3d today.... I think! :)

herewego - I'm glad your spotting has stopped! You must be so relieved.

wendstress - I'm so sorry about the nausea. :(

Lots of congrats & welcome pg_jess!!

Yea!! for no more spotting herewego! I know that's such a relief! Where do you get the Preggo Pop Drops and Sea Bands?

I'm feeling consistantly miserable. I suppose it's sort of an upset stomach/hungover feeling. It's not fun, but not unbearable. I'm just ready for this to pass so I can enjoy this pregnancy. I felt so good the first week or two and was convinced this pregnancy would be different than my other, and now it's turning out to be identical.

lauren_f_s: I'm starting to feel like you. I don't really feel sick to my stomach, but just a little "weak" and kinda like I have a hangover. My stomach is weak and my head hurts a little. It's no fun... :(

Btw, I told everyone at work yesterday about the pregnancy and everyone seems to be really excited!!! :)

Good morning, ladies! Welcome lil_nance and pg_jess!

I'm with y'all on the m/s misery. You're right it feels just like a hangover, except without all the fun, alcohol-filled debauchery of the night before. :(

I second the Preggie Pops suggestion that herewego wrote about. They really do work! You can order them online: Preggie Pops (http://www.threelollies.com/). I never thought of Sea Bands. Gotta give that a try! Nothing seems to work in the morning, though. It's just a matter of getting a piece of toast down as fast as possible without throwing up. Sometimes if I keep crackers next to my bed and eat a few before I even get out of bed, that helps. I'm usually fine the rest of the day as long as I eat something every 2-3 hours. This sucks...the m/s is coming on so much faster and stronger than my last pregnancy! (Last time it didn't start until 6 weeks...and lasted until 16 weeks! )

I'm so excited for those of you who are announcing your pregnancies to everyone! It's such an exciting time. I think we'll wait until after the ultrasound to announce to anyone because of that bizarre bleeding episode I had last week (bleeding has stopped now). Although it's hard keeping this a secret when I feel so sick. I swear my mom is on to me.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Welcome to the new ladies! Congratulations!

M/S - I'm also having much worse m/s this time around and it's much worse at night for me. I'm finding that I *hate* having the aftertaste of anything in my mouth (including toothpaste :( ), totally makes my stomach turn all day long. I feel like I've been snacking a lot to avoid that - I probably should try drinking more water ;). I'm going to try to find some candied ginger or ginger tea at the grocery store today and I'm going to start taking my prenatals right before bed to see if that helps at all.

Questions for Dr: I must have preggo brain, ‘cause I can’t remember a single question I asked last pregnancy. I think I only asked about what I can/can’t eat and is there anything they could give me for the nausea (they gave me a prescription for Reglan). They also gave me a prescription for prenatals which I plan to ask for again this time. The prescription prenatals seemed to go down a lot easier than the over-the-counter, for some reason (less after-taste, I think).

I also want to ask about dental work. I need to get a cavity filled and want to know if the anesthesia is safe. And I eventually plan to ask about VBACs, although I know it’s a little early in the game to be talking about that.

Yeah! I am so, so relieved today. We had another ultrasound to see if we could find out why I'm still spotting, and everything looks perfect (couldn't see much last week). Our little embryo is right on track size-wise and has a strong heartbeat. The bleeding is coming from some "implantation" pockets of blood along the side of my uterus. They told me it'll either continue to bleed out for a little while longer, or be reabsorbed by my body. Neither scenario is dangerous to the pregnancy.

I have been spotting since the first day we found out we were PG, so this was a HUGE relief.

In other news, nausea has descended. Holy wow. I thought maybe I was going to avoid it, and then -- WHAMMO! I am just so barfy, I can't believe it. It's going to be tough getting through the work day these next several weeks.

Thanks again for the welcome. I'm having so much fun reading along with everyone!

M/S - It hasn't been too bad, but I do get nauseous around mealtimes, usually before I eat. It seems like it's my body's way of telling me it's time for food. I did have one really nauseous moment when I actually thought I was going to throw up - it was last week when my DH and I were on vacation and in the middle of a tour of Hearst Castle. No place to sit, no food or water nearby, I thought I was going to die. Fortunately the moment passed quickly and I was able to make it through the rest of the tour.

Just for posterity, my first dr. appointment is August 29th.

I'm really looking forward to some natural maternity instincts taking over. So far I feel clueless about everything!

Welcome pg_jess

Questions to ask:
I can't remember what I asked last time... I do remember my first place for questions was cc (or was it wc back then? I don't remember...) ... I really just asked my midwives for specific "i want this/don't want this" type stuff or to confirm...(every time they agreed, which was most often, I was relieved since I picked a good m/w practice...the few times they disagreed, I started doubting my choices... ugh) ...

This time, I'll be asking about vbac's right from the start. I was hoping for a water birth, but my hospital doesn't support that. Ugh. AND...I found out that their policy is continuous monitoring for vbacs. I told DH that we're waiting to the last minute to go into the hospital and mentioned that if home birth were an option I'd so go for it ... let's just say DH was adamantly GLAD that it wasn't even an option. UGH! Let him be hooked up to those monitors while trying to concentrate and be at peace...

I used the hypnobabies home study course last time, and plan to use it again. If anyone's curious about it, let me know and I'll give ya a better review -- it's kinda hippy(forgive the label), but it's a way of using self hypnosis for pain free childbirth...

Welcome to all the new ladies. :)

happy1nuv: Can I ask a stupid question? What is a vbac? I am new to this whole pregnancy thing and I have successfully figured out all the other acronyms on this site so far, but that one doesn't seem to be listed anywhere. :( Sorry for my naivety.

Herewego: glad the bleeding has stopped. That has to be a huge relief.

Anyway, sorry I have not been around lately...Feeling crappy all around the last few days. I LOVE being pregnant more than anything, but this nausea thing is killing me. Sometimes eating something small like chips or grapes will make the nausea go away and sometimes it makes it worse. AGH. What a pain.

As for me...well, two more days and my dh and I get to see the baby for the first time. I can't believe it. We are so excited I can hardly wait. I just hope they see the h/b and that everything is fine. This is the furthest we have gotten in a pregnancy so we are just delighted. I am praying every day that all is well with the baby. I will post pictures of the u/s as soon as I get them on Thursday.

Hope everyone is well. I go back to work in a week and a half so I am going to try to stay up-to-date on the site as much as possible once that happens.

Good morning girls! I just have time for a quick post.

I've been having some painful cramping for 2 days now. It comes and goes, but DH and I talked about it last night and I finally called my dr. He's having me come in this morning for an ultrasound to make sure everything's okay. I'm sure it is, but there's a nagging part at the back of my head that's a little worried.

VBAC = Vaginal Birth After Caesarean

4:10 AM. That's when James got up this morning. Standing at the end of his crib, yelling for someone to come get him. I guess I'm a terrible mom, but all I could do was put in earplugs and try to sleep a little more. I feel so shot!

Lauren - I remember this vividly from PG#1. It seemed like about every 7-10 days, I'd get a fresh wave of strong, menstual-like cramping. The Dr. said it was just the uterus stretching out! Hope this is all it is for you, too.

Welcome, lil_nance, Femmie, and pg_jess

M/S: I haven't actually gotten sick yet, but I did just describe it to DH this weekend as feeling like a hangover. Sounds like some of you are feeling the same thing.

ali_ohli: Yay for answers on the spotting!

happy1nuv: Please tell us more about the hypnobabies thing.

DH and I met with the midwife for the first time yesterday. We really liked her which is a good thing b/c I have been unhappy with my run-ins with some of the doctors in the practice. I was curious about using a midwife and she had the soonest appointment available so I decided to go for it. So glad I did! She did an ultrasound since we only saw the sac last week in the ER and this time we saw a heartbeat!! I'm still spotting, but she told me it was normal and as long as I'm not filling a pad every hour or two, I shouldn't worry about it.

Lauren I hope everything goes well with the ultrasound. I too have been having cramping once a week or so, just as wendstress described. Yesterday it was consistent all day, and then today I have none.

Anyone else not able to sleep well at night? DH and I just toss and turn all night! It's getting so frustrating. Between that, and the bathroom breaks I'm going crazy!

Sleep Where Art Thou?

Ladies, I have had the most uncomfortable few nights of (non)sleep. I fall asleep fine, but am inevitably woken up numerous times for the bathroom, and as soon as I get up, waves of nausea hit. I ended up falling asleep lastnight after a bathroom break practically sitting STRAIGHT up in bed because that was the only way I felt okay. I can't believe I have to pee this much. I can only imagine how awful it will be when I actually have a stomach and real pressure on my bladder. Ugh. Needless to say, I've been waking up every morning looking like death warmed over.

Weight
So, I think I'm avoiding the scale for a little while. My weight fluctuated four pounds this weekend. I know it's fluid and not actual weight, but man that did a number on my confidence. I have read that gaining 0-3lbs during the first trimester is normal, and I'm fine with that, but I'm still feeling like this is SO NEW, I'm just not mentally or physically prepared for my body to change. Is this freaking anyone else out?

Drs. Appt
Thank you SO much to everyone who piped in with additional questions for my doctors visit today. DH and I will be going at 11:30 and I am so excited. I have already seen the Bean on u/s, but DH hasn't and I'm really looking forward to sharing this with him. I'll definitely come back with an update and answers to share with you all.

Morning Sickness Aides
Someone asked for info on Preggie Pops and Sea Bands. I highly, HIGHLY recommend both of these to ease m/s. You can get Preggie Pops at www.preggiepop.com and while I haven't checked yet, they may also have them at natural stores like Whole Foods or Trader Joes.

Sea Bands are actually meant for sea/motion sickness, but regardless they target nausea using acupressure and work like a charm for m/s. I think these things are a godsend! http://www.morningsicknesshelp.com/seabands.html
You may be able to find them in drug stores.

Sounds like some of you ladies could really benefit from these, so definitely check them out!

ali_ohli-so glad that everything checked out well with the u/s. Spotting can be so unnerving...I was totally in your boat. I spotted for well over two weeks and still occasionally have a little brownish CM in the mornings. I guess it's normal. Hopefully everything will clear up for you soon.

Everyone have a great day!

Lauren ~ Good luck with the ultrasound. Even if it's nothing, you'll be relieved to rule anything out. Please post an update as soon as you can!

Cramping: I've had on-and-off cramps, but everytime it turns out to be gas. What else is new?

Sleep: I've been sleeping like the dead. I can fall asleep in record time! I'm just *so* tired all.the.time. It doesn't help that I'm chasing after a two-year old all day, so I literally fall into bed at night. I am waking up super early in the mornings, though, due to that dang m/s. Cannot wait for that stage to pass!

Anyone else NOT feeling pg? No ms although I never really had any with DS just some nausea. I'm not really tired, still staying up until all hours of the night. Sense of smell doesn't seem to have kicked in yet. And the bbs are normal. I know it's silly but the lack of symptoms is bugging me. I can't remember when things kicked in with DS. My appt. is still 2wk away. I think it's going to be a long 2wk.
Gotta run, DS isn't interested in napping this week. THAT's making me tired more than the pg.

No time for individual SO's since I got to work late and need to get busy.

But - everything is fine! My dr. wanted to check and make sure the baby was okay and not ectopic. All is good. We saw the teeny little baby, sac, umbilical cord and heartbeat! I'm measuring right at 7 weeks and he says it all looks good. My appt Monday is cancelled, since I was seen today, which is fine by me. And I go back in 3 weeks so we can hear the heartbeat!

Ok, I LOVE to share info, so I will take no offense to anyone skimming my posts... (i have a few friends who are pg with their first, and I send them a few new product reviews/info I've gotten from cc along for them -- they tease me mercilessly about my info sharing, but its kind of a disease with me...)

So, hypnobabies. I sent away for the kit - it's a binder of info and 6 or 7 cds. The cds all have scripts on them read by the lady who put it together... It tells you not to watch any baby birthing shows on tv, and to redefine how you think of childbirth. It's not called labor, its called your birthing time. They arent contractions but birthing waves or pressure waves. It's all about re-programming your mind to accept the idea that childbirth is empowering and pain free (not pressure free, but pain free). There's a lot of visualizing your baby, and you are supposed to listen to the pregnancy affirmations (probably 30-45 minutes) once a day (can listen to it driving) and then you listen to a script once a day. The scripts are where you teach yourself the self hypnosis part...I did them as I fell asleep. (They are great to fall asleep to, but I also tried to do them when I was more awake too).... it's a bit time consuming, but very peace-ful... and I really do think I had a better pregnancy because of them.

When it came time for Nic to be born, I was doing great... I was in my special place, welcoming the birthing waves... right up until I got to the hospital (my water had broken and it was meconium filled, so they said to come right in) ... I was at 5 cm and doing just fine, until they told me he was breech and there was no way around a c-section. He was head down at my last appt, 2 days before... Once they said that, I lost my bubble of peace, and things hurt! So, I do believe that it works.. and will be trying it again. You have to suspend your disbelief and totally believe in it for it to work though...

:)

herewego - I had the same freakout about weight. DH and I weren't planning on getting pregnant. I was in my sixth month on weight watchers and had lost a little over 30 pounds when I found out I was pg. Obviously I stopped doing ww right away, but I'm still so conditioned to want to see the numbers on the scale going down. It freaked me out this week when I saw I had gained 3.5 pounds. For me that was like two weeks of loss on ww!

I think I'm going to keep weighing, just to keep myself in check. (I do the ww thing of weighing myself at the same time once a week.) While I'm okay with gaining pregnancy weight, I don't want to be one of those who gets totally out of control. :) I want to stick as close to the recommended 25-30 pounds as I possibly can.

lil_nance~ Consider yourself one of the lucky ones! My friend who was pregnant with TRIPLETS had no m/s (maybe one day of nausea, that's it), no other symptoms...she was just enormous. I was like, how is that fair?? She has THREE babies inside her!! I know it must be frustrating, though, not to feel any pg symptoms. Hang in there!

lauren f s~ Glad to hear everything is okay! You must feel so relieved.

happy1nuv~ Thanks for sharing the hypnobabies info. Even if I don't end up using it, I'm always really interested in reading info, so share away! Do you know if hypnobabies is related to the Bradley method? I'll be interested to hear what you learn about vbacs, too. I'm eager to know if I'm a good candidate for a vbac.

MarriedaGoalie~ Maybe the nurse was just being extra thorough? Random! At least the results are good.

Cohl ~ Good luck at your ultrasound appt tonight! No wonder you can't concentrate!

Weight gain
I was one of those women whose weight gain was out of control -- I gained 50 lbs with my last pregnancy! I was underweight pre-pg, though, so the weight gain was actually a good thing. Now it's a WHOLE different story (amazing how childbirth can change one's metabolism), so I really don't want to gain that much weight again. I haven't gained any weight as of yet...I think the m/s is effectively keeping that at bay.

Well, nothing too special at the ultrasound. They pushed my due date back to April 17. According to all the measurements I am 5w1d. That is closer to what I thought anyway. My cycles haven't been regular since before I had DD and I thought I was around 5 weeks (We BD on July 11, I believe), but I listened to Baby Center instead. Wishful thinking! LOL The ultrasound tech said my doctor might have me go back in a few weeks just to check out the measurements again. I am kind of bummed/nervous because there wasn't anything but the sac to see. She said she could see "something going on in there" but it is still too soon to see much. I know this is normal, but it still makes me a bit nervous.

Anyway, threadmistress, could you change my due date to April 17?

Weight gain I was up three pounds at my doctor's appointment this week and it completely freaked me out. I've had eating/weight issues in the past, so this is hard for me -- not that anyone likes gaining weight. It's just that eating CONSTANTLY is the only thing that keeps me from hurling. I'm trying to nibble all day rather than eat any big meals -- hopefully this will help keep my weight from skyrocketing.

Off to buy those preggie pops.

Hey Ladies-

Just wanted to pop back in and share some of the info that I got from my doctor today in case anyone has been having the same questions.

***Note, I know all doctors are different, so take these will a grain of salt and be sure to ask your own physician how they feel about these topics as well.

*Travel-Can fly now and up until 32 weeks so long as pregnancy is progressing normally. This means no air travel for me after mid-February.

*Medication-Allergies: Claritin is okay now. Benedryl & Sudafed okay after 12 wks. Headaches: Tylenol okay, No Mortin, Advil or Ibuprofin. Heartburn: Tums or Pepcid okay. Constipation: Colace 1-3 times day as needed.

*Blood/Genetics Tests- I had EIGHT viles of blood taken today to test for HIV & other STDs, Cystic Fibrosis, blood type/cholestrol/thyroid, Fragile X, and the Jewish Genetic Tests. Since DH is Jewish, I will been screened and if I am a carrier for any of the mutations (namely Tay Sachs disease) then DH will be tested.

At 11 weeks, I will go for an advanced u/s for the Nuchal Translucency test which will look for markers of Downs Syndrome. If there are any markers, I will get an amnio. My doc doesn't recommend an amnio unless the Nuchal Translucency comes back with signs of Downs.

*Diet & Weight Gain- Nothing I didn't already know here. Normal weight gain for someone my height & current weight is 25-30lbs. My doc also talked about foods to avoid (no surprises), but she did give me the go ahead for one small cup of caffiene a day, and even a glass of wine here and there after 16 wks. I doubt I will really indulge in any of these, however, I may feel differently about the caffiene after school starts!

*Prenatals-I got a prescription for these...I will be taking Primacare (up until now I was taking folic acid & One-A-Day Multivitamin). Is anyone taking this brand? I have a sensitive tummy and have especially had loose bowels lately (sorry TMI) so I'm a little worried about how these may affect my stomach....

*Massage/Spa Treatments-My doc has NO PROBLEM with any of these and even said that massage in the first trimester is okay. She said there is no empirical evidence to support that massage can harm a baby and that the benefits that increased relaxation and circulation from massage can cause actually help the baby.

*Skin Care Products-using my Proactiv is fine...Benzoyl based products are harmless, but she said absolutely NO salycilic acid.

*Mole Removal-It's fine for my dermo to use topical anethesia to remove a mole.

*Vitamin Products-Since I am taking a prenatal, she recommends staying away from other vitamin related foods/drinks such as Vitamin Water, those special vitamin muffins, certain vitamin based fitness bars etc. She says that those, plus the vitamins we get in our regular diet, plus the prenatals could be too much.

*Spotting- this has just about subsided, but the doc said no exercise or sex (shoot!) for another two weeks just to get into a safer zone. That will put me close to the end of my first trimester and doc doesn't want to put any undue stress on my cervix etc. which could cause more bleeding. She said to otherwise ignore the brown blood/CM and not to worry unless blood turns bright red.

I think that about covers it. I'll see my doc once a month until I get closer to my due date. My next appointment is September 14th.

Hypnobabies doesn't advise using any other method concurrently... they preach no pain, while Bradley teaches that the pain is necessary to get through for the prize of seeing your baby (or something like that)...so the methodologies don't quite coexist well. I do know people who have done bradley and another hypnosis method (i forget which course is the competing birth hypnosis one)...

Ok... so I am officially in the eating gross stuff club. I remember the jokes about pickles and ice cream, and thinking I would never do that...well, how about pizza and hard boiled eggs? It sounds nasty, but I NEEDED to eat that for lunch. Gross!!!

wendstress
08-16-2006, 08:28 PM
I took Bradley... I never got the "pain is necessary to get through for the prize of seeing your baby" message. More, it is about natural methods for dealing with pain. Mostly, it was a lot of education about the birthing process. Some of which was very good, some of which I am pretty sure is seriously out-dated.

Weight Gain - I think I gained about 40 lbs with PG #1. I was very lucky, and it all came off, plus an extra 10 lbs with it. I'm not so nervous about this as I was last time.... Plus all the BFing helps tremendously!

Not feeling too PG. Had a wave of nausea a couple of days ago, but that's about it. Exhausted, but James is sleeping terribly....

Any one else on DC#2 that is having sleeping problems with DC#1???? I just found out my husband's cousin is PG with #2 and due April 10th...she and I both realized that our boys have been sleeping terrible since pretty much the moment we each found out we were pregnant!

You can also find the preggo pops at Motherhood Maternity.

I was actually there a few days ago buying a skirt and they have loads of them right at the counter. I know a lot of people on this site have said the MM is not a great store, as their clothes seem to fall apart easily and they have a terrible return policy, but I needed something to wear to work when I go back in a week and a half and I have NOTHING that fits well. I figure that if I bought something on sale that was for the summer/fall then it won't matter to me if it falls apart after that. :) I just hope it holds up for at least a couple of weeks during the school year. :)

Anyway, tomorrow is the big day for me. It seems like a lot of you have already had an u/s and that is great. Tomorrow will be my first ever. I am going to be so darn happy to see that h/b I can't tell you. My dh is more excited than I am...I think. He can't wait. I will post the pictures of the u/s assuming there are some.

Morning everyone! This morning is my first dr appt! My mom is going with me because DH will be in class during that time. I'm really exciteD! :D I have my video camera in case they decide to do an ultrasound.

In other news... nausea hit hard this morning. :( I will definitely be making my way to Motherhood to find those preggie pops. Also, the smell of *anything* strong is only aggrivating my nausea to another level.... I opened my fridge this morning to get a bottled water, and almost harfed right then and there. ICK!

wendstress ~ really (about bradley) ...i wanted to do them both last time around and was really discouraged from it by the hypnobabies mailing list... for the reason I posted. Hmm... sorry for the misinformation!

AND YES... Nic has been sleeping terribly since we found out we're pg again! And, I swear that Nic knew I was pg before I did... soon after what I think of as date of conception, he got really interested in lifting up my shirt and pointing to my belly button. He kisses my belly, and "talks" to it... I thought it was just a stage... but, maybe he's just a really smart kid :)

We're Back!

The appointment went really well. She ended up doing an ultrasound so we got to see the little flickering heartbeat! SO COOL! I have a few pictures...

The bubble is the yolk sack, the baby is to the left. I was measuring exactly 6w6d, and will keep my due date of April 6th. So exciting!! My mom got the ultrasound on video, so I can show DH tonight! :D

My next appointment is September 18th.

Julie: Yea for the u/s and getting to see the baby!

Quick question - does anyone know how I can use my digital camera to take a picture of our u/s to put online? Everytime I try it turns out really fuzzy and gray.

DC 1's sleep: It's fine. I wish I slept as well as she does, to be honest. ;)

Wendstress & happy DS is sleeping poorly too. He's been waking up and crying for no reason. Usually he'll settle himself but by then I'm awake. Ugh. Also naps have been lousy this week. I'm wondering if he's ready to go to one nap?

ieducate Good luck tomorrow. My mom was a teacher so I know the first day of school can be stressful for you as well as the kids. Also I found some cute casual work clothes at JCPenney last time around. They held up really well and I'll be using them again.

julie love that u/s. How exciting! I'm really hoping I get one on the 30th but I don't know if they will or not.

Well, maybe I have more symptoms than I thought. I laid down while DS was napping this morning and fell asleep for an hr. Been craving spicy food, Mexican, Indian, etc. With DS I craved veggies early on (probably better for me than the spicy stuff).

I had another doctor's appointment today. I just met with the nurse and she gave me a bunch of free stuff and then went over everything with me. She went over what appointments would be coming up for me and then also what I should/shouldn't be doing. She said that my doctor is very anti-taking pills in the first 12 weeks (even Tylenol). She said if I absolutely have to, then I can, but they don't encourage it. She also told me that they won't do a sonogram until 20 weeks and at that time we could find out the sex if we wanted to. So... our next appointment is September 14th and that's when we get to hear the heartbeat for the first time. :)

So, maybe you guys can help me with the dute date thing. I can't exactly remember when the first day of my last AF was... possibly the week of July 4th though I know it wasn't the 4th. Any guess?

Appointments: August 28th-- OB history with the nurse practioner
October 2-- see the OB

I had forgotten from my last pg that my OB doesn't see patients until around the 12 week mark or so. Since, I couldn't really remember the AF thing, I guessed.

Anyway, as far as the timing goes for this pg, it's perfect. I teach HS English, and this will make a great ending to the school year.
