Subscribing!! This is unbelievable. Didn't I just take that HPT yesterday?!?

My thoughts exactly!!!! :eek:

I had my appointment last Tuesday (did I already write about this? I can't remember!) Anyway, everything is looking great. My next appointment is August 15 and I have my GTT then, too. I got the fizzy orange stuff to drink. I can't believe I have to down that in five minutes while I drive to my appointment. I hope I don't puke!! :o

I am so tired and achey. Anyone else? I'm trying to get out at lunch for a short walk, and also to get up more during the day and just walk/stretch.

To answer a question from the other thread about being afraid...I don't think I've let myself get too worked up about anything yet. I have so much else going on in my life (work, school, sorority stuff -I'm an advisor) that I haven't had the time. I guess if I really think about it, breastfeeding is what makes me the most nervous. I want to do it, but I'm afraid it's not going to work. We have our BF class September 7, so hopefully that will alleviate some of the fear.

I definitely feel like I just took an HPT yesterday. It feels like time is flying by. But of course around week 35 it will feel like its taking forever.

Being an RO I'm not afraid of too much. I want this delivery to go better than it did with my son and I am scared of things going wrong. I am concerned about bf'ing since I couldn't with DD and only got to do about 6 weeks with DS. But most of the other stuff I feel pretty prepared for. I am just trying to keep an open mind about everything and not get on myself if things don't go how I want.

I don't know if anyone else is taking them, but we start our prenatal classes on September 11th. Has anyone else looked into these?

I don't know that I'm afraid of anything too specific but I am getting a bit nervous about the hospital part. I'm not afraid of labour or delivery, but just things happening at the hospital like rude staff or not having a private room...

Could you change my due date to December 3, 2006 ?

And my next ob appt is August 18. Thanks!!

Also, subscribing...it does feel like just yesterday that I got the BFP. :)

Wow, new thread...guess I should check in!!

3rd tri already?? At my last Dr's appt, she was talking about moving the checkups to twice a month, and I whined...Already????? I'm not ready to have two kids. Guess I should have worried more about that in March.

I am tired and achey, but with chasing my little girl around it's harder to notice this time. Holy cow, I have so much to do...

I agree it seems like time is just flying by. I was expecting pregnancy to feel like it was going to go on forever. Ya know how you have so much anticipation built up towards something it usually makes the end seem so much farther away. Not pregnancy - I feel like I don't have enough time to prepare and it is freaking me out. Which leads me to...

Things I am afraid of- I have a fear that something is going to go wrong during delivery, fears about breastfeeding not working, and just a general fear of screwing up my kid :rolleyes:. I guess all that is probably normal. I need to stop watching those Special Delivery shows on TV!

I know part of my anxiety is just because I over analyze everything, that's just who I am. Once I am in the situation and dealing with it I usually have a pretty level head. One can hope anyway :).

Thanks for the responses on being zombie-tired. ppwgal, glad I'm not the only one. I was thinking it was a combo of the heat and a growth spurt. My uterus seems to be a full 1.5-2 inches taller than it was on Sunday. Now that its cooled back down, and I've invented a new pillow arrangement to help me sleep at night I'm starting to feel a little better.

fears - I'm afraid of hemmorage and post-partum depression. I need to deal with these fears soon. One of my natural birth books talks about facing your fears completely before birth. All you do is write them down on paper and then write down what you would do if they were to actually happen. Then at least you know there is a plan of action if your fear comes true.

For example, if I was afraid of breastfeeding failure my plan of action would be something like:

- join La Leche League before birth
- call a lactation consultant right after birth
- join a new mom's group for support
- try pumping

you get what I mean...

Holy time flying batman!:p
(subscribing- and shaking my head- 3rd?!)

tired and stuff Yes, but I am sick. I have been off work the last two days. I had some allergy stuff turn into an infection. I've been running a fever- so I feel kinda blech! I'm hoping the fever will stay down and I'll feel closer to 100% by Friday.

I had my 24 week appointment yesterday- and things went great. His heart-rate was 163, my BP was perfect, and I have gained 11 pounds. My Dr. seems to think I am on track to gain around 22-24 lbs. He said he would like me to gain a little more than that based on my pre-preggo size (no problem here! I can indulge a little more!)
My next appointment is August 23rd and my GTT is August 16. I feel quite lucky- my group doesn't use the orange drink stuff for the GTT.
They use the coke and candy bar test. They asked if I could eat a 2 oz. candy bar and drink a regular (no diet) soft drink in 15 minutes or less. After I finished laughing I asked if they meant a case- because this is one preggo lady who could shovel in 15 candy bars and 15 cokes in 15 minutes.
I also scheduled my 30 week 4-D u/s for September 1st.

Does anyone know where I can find cute things to hang my quilt from. All I need to finish the nursery is a changing pad/cover and quilt hangers.
Hope all is well with ya'll!

LUCKY! I'm sooooo jealous! :eek: I don't know what kind/flavor of liquid I'll have to drink at my GTT in a few weeks, but I would LOVE to do the candy bar/soda combo for my test!! In fact, I just had my morning candy bar + soda (well candy bar= peanut butter flavored Kudo's bar). My dr said the drink I'll have is very very sugary and that I don't have to make an appt, just do a walk-in at the lab to pick up the drink and come back an hour later after I've drunk it.

Prenatal classes: We start ours on August 15th and it is a 6 week course, every Tuesday each week -- for 3 hours! :eek:

Things I am afraid of:Where do I start? I am totally freaked out. Being a mom, above all, scares the bejeezus out of me. I just hope I am a good one, is all. I don't even want to think about the L&D experience.

So happy to finally join you all! Can't wait to share such a joyous occasion with all of you ladies!

So, it was just brought to my attention that my baby shower is during Columbus Day weekend. This does not stress me out but I am worried how my mom is going to react because it is possible that many people will not able to attend. I gave my mom a small list, per her request, so we will see what happens. My mom is wonderful but she stresses out by stuff like this and she will surely tell me about it. I could care less if I have a shower with 5 people. I just do not want my mom bringing me through her stressful ups and downs.

So I need some advice: Should I just tell my mom or let everything just go with the flow? She put down a deposit already, I think, and may have ordered the invites, but I am not sure. Perhaps I should ask my sister.

Has anyone started looking into different birthing methods like Bradley, Hypnobirthing, Hypnobabies, etc.?
No, I am all about the epidural. I am taking a birthing class and I should do some reading, I suppose, just in case I need to choose another option.

what are you afraid of?
L&D a bit but I have a high tolerance for pain so it does not terrify me. I guess I am just afraid of the unexpected. I am also afraid of being a parent and afraid of how it may change my marriage. I am not thinking the worst but I like my relationship with my husband as it is. Everyone insists he will be put on the back burner and I just hate the idea of that.

prenatal classes - has anyone else looked into these?
I take mine Sept 16th and 17th and then a breastfeeding class on October 5th

~~~~~
Kyrsten – I am glad the spotting was not indicative of anything more serious. That must be so scary! I zoomed in to see the smile in the last u/s picture. So cute and yet, so strange. It is just weird to see evidence of a growing and moving person in your belly!
Rancid – such good medical news! Congrats! Those are extremely clear pictures. They have to be the best that any of us have posted.
Citygirl – a coworker of mine is feeling the same as you. Perhaps you are sleeping lousy at night? There are days that I feel really good and healthy and there are days I cannot get off the couch. For me, it is because of the heat.
Mimieliza – that is so cool about watching the remote move!
Bijouparvin – of course, I love the belly progression montage because I copied it! :D
Lydia – Congrats, hon! :) I think it is interesting that you say you are actually looking forward to labor and delivery. Is the epi that good?!?!? :)
Nic – you look great in that picture!
Sake – I hear that is very normal.
euphorheawelcome to the group.
fears I haven't had time to think about this one too much, but the few that just popped into my head.
- ppd
- a difficult birth (since I had an "easy" one the first time)
- DD going berserk about the baby
- not being prepared....I have been so busy with work, my little toddler at home that I haven't really thought about planning for the baby except on those rare occasions when I am gripped by panic.
rancid - awesome news!! :D
sake - regarding discharge - me too. Luckily I didn't have any issues with bladder leakage last time or so far this time around, but I do wear pantyliners sometimes because of discharge. Yuck!
I had an epidural with my last delivery and plan on one this time around too. Like others have said, have a plan in mind but try not to get too upset if things change. I did not want an episiotomy but Andrew got stuck behind my pubic bone. So it ended up being a vacuum assisted birth along with a small episiotomy. Still gives me the willies to think about it but bottom line, both Andrew and I came out of the delivery safe and sound.
I've been feeling lots of pressure 'down there' when I use the bathroom or squat. I'm a little concerned because it seems too early to be feeling it - I remember it with Andrew but much later in the pregnancy. So, I changed my next appointment from 7/31 to 8/7. I was going to take Andrew with me but I'd rather the doctor be able to take a look if needed, and I think that would be hard with him there.
Oh, a tip that might be helpful down the line since we are in the 3rd trimester :eek: thread - I know only a small percentage of woman actually have their water break, but it does happen. I started wearing maxi pads a few weeks before my EDD. Some of my friends also made sure there was a waterproof matress pad or shower curtain on their bed to protect the mattress in case something happened during the night, and sat on towels in the car. Well, my dh came to bed about 3am the day before my EDD (he was working from home then) which woke me up, so I stood up to go to the bathroom and gush! I hopped into the tub because I was so surprised and let the gushing finish there. Dh walked in and thought I was peeing in the tub! Needless to say, the pad was soaked through quickly, but it was enough time for me to get to the bathroom. :p
Aww, thanks for the warm welcome, ladies! :)
So I need some advice: Should I just tell my mom or let everything just go with the flow? She put down a deposit already, I think, and may have ordered the invites, but I am not sure. Perhaps I should ask my sister.
You sure we don't have the same mother? ;) My mom planned my shower on Labor Day weekend not realizing that some people may be out of town then. I'm like you and totally wouldn't mind if a handful of people showed up -- but I guess your mom just wants everything to go perfectly for you and that's understandable. I'm sure things will turn out fine regardless, but if it is a big enough issue for her, is there any way that she can change the date of your shower without it affecting anything? I'd found out ASAP just to be sure. Or have your sister ask for you. That's what I would do. :)
Birthing classes We are scheduled for our breastfeeding class on September 7th. Our childbirth class is a one day deal (8-4) and it's on September 23. I'm looking forward to both of them :D
Is anyone else feeling unusually anxious? Not neccessarily about PG related things, more about every day things. I'm finding myself getting overly anxious about every.little.thing.
Showers We're going to be having three :o My family is from NJ, so one there, one for DH's family and then our friends are throwing us a coed shower. I'm a little overwhelmed by 3 showers. I'm not a huge fan of being the center of attentio, nor am I used to being the recipient of that much generosity. DH is going to go to all 3 and help me open presents. :)
Welcome euphorhea!
So glad the cyst went away rancid! Great news!
fears- This may sound really awful, but I've been thinking about my blood pressure situation during my last pregnancy (it was somewhere around 210 over 110 the day I had DS... no joke) and thinking of how I could have seriously had a stroke. So of course I wonder if it could happen this time. I doubt my dr's will let it get anywhere near that bad - they're keeping a close eye on my bp & so far it's been great... but sometimes the mind just thinks "worst case scenario".
No fear of delivery since I'm having another c/s.
Some fear that I'll be totally physically spent with 2 children, but I'm not that worried.
sake- I think I recall the sticky discharge with my first pregnancy... I'm not experiencing it yet this time around. It's probably kind of alarming, but like your dr. said, as long as it's not bloody it's ok. :)
anxious- I'm getting pretty anxious to get the baby's room done. We had planned on having the wallpaper in our soon-to-be nursery professionally removed - but the quote of $565 changed our mind! So... I've been working on removing wallpaper for the past 2 weeks. Very slowly. (with a steamer, no chemicals). Unfortunately, I found a leak under the windows in the room & drywall will need to be torn out and replaced. So, the nursery is going to take a little longer than I thought. I just want it to be done!!! The baby bedding has been sitting in it's package for 3 weeks & I just want to see it put together! Patience.
Euphorhea- Welcome and congrats on your baby girl!
Mermccau- Thanks for the offer to do a photo progression. I only have one belly shot so far. I need to take another. I don’t have an early or pre-pg pic. I will have to go back and look at the photos from our cruise where the bean was created! My mom is already freaking out about getting ready for the shower despite numerous offers of help from various family members. Oh well, I can’t prevent it!
Citygirl- Thanks for the idea about coming up with a plan ahead of time to help address fears. I think that could make a big difference for me. I am going to sit down and write some thing out so I can refer to it later.
Birthing classes- We have a preparing for birth class Sept 15 and 16th, an All About Babies class on Sept 23rd and a breastfeeding class Oct 12th.
Afraid/anxious?- I am most afraid of PPD. A winter baby, lack of sleep, in a new city without family nearby, a DH who has to travel 1-3 days a week for work and a mommy who has dealt with depression in the past can add up to a bad situation. I am trying to do things now to help prevent this- meeting other moms through prenatal yoga, meeting neighbors and scheduling fun things for myself. DH is incredibly supportive so I know I will be able to count on him. I am also a little afraid of something going wrong during the birth/ DS having a disability. I used to be a case manager for disabled children. So while I know too much about things that can go wrong, I also know there is not much I can do to prevent it. At least my experience would help me to be prepared to care for a disabled child!
Showers- We are having 2 showers. Both are co-ed and Labor Day weekend so DH and I can travel there. One on Sunday with my Mom’s side of the family and one on Saturday at FIL’s that is not a shower, it is a family cookout. FIL has made that clear, I don’t think he can handle throwing a baby shower. :rolleyes: So funny becuse he is not a macho type guy. We figure this is our one chance to see our extended families as we are not traveling home for the holidays. MIL has mentioned throwing 3rd joint shower with 3 of her friends who are also becoming grandparents soon and their parents-to-be children. We will see if that plan pans out.
Euphorhea, welcome! I like your avatar-did you make it?
Lydia – Congrats, hon! I think it is interesting that you say you are actually looking forward to labor and delivery. Is the epi that good?!?!?
The epi is wonderful, although I have to warn you that if you like to have a lot of control over your body it may not be the way to go. I was absolutely DEAD from the waist down. I could not put my own legs in the stirrups and God forbid Matt or the nurse shifted their hold on my feet b/c they dropped like felled tree trunks. (Kind of resembled tree trunks too)
There is such thing as a "walking epidural" which you can also ask your OB about.
With regards to the Nubain, as I said I am very sensitive to alcohol and drugs so the dose that I received wouldn't have even registered as a blip on other moms' radars. But man, is it good. I would totally buy it on the street! It didn't take away all the pain but it did allow me to sleep in between contractions and man, did I need to sleep.
Lydia
Rooming in and DH's in the hospital-What are your plans?
I'll tell you my experience with Maddie-I had her stay in the nursery for the first part of the first night. (Aside from nursing, of course) I missed her so badly that I had her brought to me so I could sleep with her. Also, I was having a hard time when she was in the bassinet in my room b/c it hurt to get out of bed and lift. I was confiding in one of the nurses and she was like, "Why don't you call me when you need to transfer her?" I didn't want to bother them but I guess that's what they are there for.
DH went home each night. I needed him bright and alert the first few days at home and we had 3 pugs at the time. So he got some much-needed rest and basically did everything when I got home. I was so freaking bored at night when he left! This time I'll bring a knitting project or something.
Also, one more thing. I made sure to tell the nursery staff that Maddie was not to be given any fluids without my permission and no pacifier. Sounds obvious but I have heard horror stories so I just wanted to throw that out there.
Lydia makes a good point about the epidural. I had the walking kind and will get that again. Mine actually ran out before the delivery was complete so I could feel things and push no problem, even felt the stitches being put in from the episiotomy - youch! However, after the baby is born, you truly are in such a state of awe and excitement that the pain doesn't seem to matter. It was a little uncomfortable delivering the placenta for me, but I was so fixated on watching the nurses tend to my son that I didn't care.
Rooming - dh was just coming to bed when my water broke and we had to go to the hospital, so he literally had no sleep for a day. Andrew was born in the afternoon and we all hung out until visiting hours were over and some family left. I then requested that Andrew be taken to the nursery because I really wanted to try to get some sleep. Dh went home to change and take care of our dog and then returned to stay at the hospital with me. He fell asleep in about a minute and of course was snorinig, so I didn't get much sleep! A nurse brought Andrew to me about 2am to try to breastfeed and then after he went back to the nursery. The funny thing was, I thought if he was in the nursery I might get some sleep but actually nurses come in to check on you every hour or so - to check your blood pressure, your bleeding, etc. so it isn't restful at all, at least in my experience. This time, I'll keep the little guy with me as dh will have to go home with Andrew anyway. Lydia's right about bringing something with you too like magazines or books or crafts because waiting to push and after delivery can get pretty boring when you're by yourself and nothing's on tv. :)
Rooming- I plan on DH staying with me while I am in the hospital. I think the baby can stay with me too, but there is a nursery for her to go to if I get to overwhelmed.
Anyone really, really miss their old body? I honestly cannot wait until I can get rid of this flab. It is really bringing me down. I have a thyroid problem that was not completely fixed before I got pg (my endo was NOT happy that I was pg) and I suspect that it is causing me to gain more weight than I should. My endo is on vacation, so I can't get in to see him until 8/8. I think my thyroid dosage needs to be upped bc my basal body temp is still only in the 96's at the highest, and it is supposed to be 98 when you are pg. Anyway, I have gained 20 pounds so far (however, I am a little further along than more than half of the women in this thread...I am 26w1d) and I feel like poo. I was just looking at pics taken shortly before we got pg, and even though I was not in love with my pre-pg body, I really miss it now.
Lydia: Thanks! I "sort of" made my avatar. The picture is courtesy of Getty Images - but I resized it and edited it all on Photoshop to meet the proper avatar criteria. :)
Feeling Anxious: Oh gosh, yes. I feel like I am running out of time to do anything. My DH and I also bought a house this year [new construction] and we don't close until the END OF OCTOBER! Talk about crazy timing! It is going to be a busy end of the year for us - that's for sure!
Showers: Our shower is scheduled for Labor Day weekend. My sister and my mom are kindly hosting it for me. Our shower will be co-ed as well. The theme is going to be brown and green with hints of pink cherry blossoms here and there. My DH and I just finished designing our invites -- and we'll be assembling them sometime next week. I'll post pics when they are done.
Rooming: I'll most likely want DH there as much as possible. I'm not sure if the hospital has a nursery to put baby in if I need to rest. I'll have to ask about that during our hospital tour next month.
Missing my old body: Absolutely. I am weighing the most I have ever weighed in my entire life and I am just not used to it at all. Granted, the weight gain comes with the territory but still. I used to be so active and everything, and now all I ever want to do is be lazy and eat. :rolleyes: It doesn't help that I am cursed with bad round ligament pains either. Krysten, I totally know what you mean about missing your pre-pg body! I do have to admit that I don't mind having this cute ol' baby belly either, though. ;)
rooming in/baby & DH- I was in the hospital for 5 days after having DS because my bp wouldn't go back to normal. DH stayed with me every night. I had DS with me during the days and in the nursery at night. I was BFing & I agree with acrane in that it's not much more "restfull" if you have them bring your child for BF sessions during the night. DH won't be able to stay because he'll be home with DS. So I just might have the baby stay in room with me for company :)! Hopefully I won't be in for more than 2 days this time.
I also had an issue with the nurses during my 1st delivery stay. DS was noted as BF only, but one night they didn't bring him to me. I realized it had been 4 or 5 hours since he'd come in so I called the nursery. They had formula fed him! They claimed I had told them to FF him that night?!? WTH????? Of course, DH was there to back me up and say he heard no such request. I was NOT happy. Don't want a repeat of that scene.
old body- I'm definitely looking forward to losing the weight. Since I didn't ever get my body back from pg#1 I'm hoping to get the new weight PLUS the old weight off this time around. Since this will definitely be our last baby I am thinking the motivation will be higher - I won't have to worry about putting it back on with another pregnancy.
Welcome Euphorhea!- Congrats on your little girl! We need some more pink in here!
Rooming- Most likely I will send DH home to sleep. We have a dog and he will need to be taken outside, fed, etc. Plus like others have mentioned I will need him to be rested since I probably won't be. I will probably want the baby to be in my room, but if I really need some rest I will send him to the nursery.
missing my old body?- Not as much as I did in the beginning. I had a hard time dealing with the weight gain, but now that I am starting to look pregnant instead of chunky I don't mind my body the way it is now. I reserve the right to change my mind though as I start to get bigger ;). I do miss my old clothes terribly! I have a very limited wardrobe in maternity clothes and seeing all my regular clothes in the closet is killing me. I am an admitted clothes snob - I miss my Lucky Jeans!
mermccau- Is Columbus Day a big holiday where you live? Most people that I know don't have that day off of work or make it a long holiday weekend, around here anyway. Maybe it won't affect the turnout at your shower. I hope that the whole thing doesn't turn out to be stressful for you since your Mom may stress over it. I sincerely hope that we are all not destined to be like our mothers. I plan to try very hard to be different than my Mom (it's a long and complicated reason why). I do hope to be a lot like my Dad though.
acrane- thanks for the tips about wearing a pad late in pregnancy. One of my fears is my water breaking while I am at work! I work with mostly men and I know I would be really embarrassed!
kadee- thanks for getting the new thread set up!
Birthing Classes- I had to change ours so that we could accomadate DH's travel schedule. Our classes are going to be Oct. 14th and 15th. I am a little concerned that they are only 4 weeks before my due date, but the lady at the hospital said we should be fine. I need to sign up for a breastfeeding class and an infant CPR class too.
~~~~~~

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Rooming in and DH's in the hospital-What are your plans?I'm really impressed with our hospital's family friendliness, which I learned about a few weeks ago at our orientation & tea. Each (private) PPR room has a large couch which pulls out to a (according to them) very comfortable queen-sized bed, and each room also has a private bathroom w/shower. There are no set visiting hours, people can come and go as they please, and the only limit on visitors is 5 at a time per patient to the L&D unit. We have no pets to care for, so DH is welcome to stay overnight if his work schedule allows (his work is only ~2 miles up the road from the hospital anyhow). The hospital says that any overnight visitors are welcome to stay as long as the patient is still admitted; so if my mom wants to stay overnight also, she's welcome to do so. Of course I'll be playing it by ear when I'm actually in recovery and see how comfortable I am with overnighters, LOL! This isn't something that needs to be decided ahead of time, so we'll see when the time comes. If the new mom needs to get some rest, she has the option of letting the baby be taken to the nursery for awhile, or she can keep him/her in the PPR room with her.

Here's some pictures of what the postpartum recovery rooms look like:

The lobby, which they call "The Living Room":

Although I certainly hope not to be in the hospital for a very long stay, at least I know that while I'm staying there, the accomodations for me and any guests will be pretty darn nice.

Anyone really, really miss their old body?Oh, yes. Even though my pre-preg body was still about 10lbs heavier than what I consider to be my 'ideal' body weight, I find myself looking in the mirror and wishing I could have it back. All in due time, I suppose.

Showers~As far as I know, I'm only having 1. It's looking like it will be held on Sept 16...my BFF and mom are cohosting it at my mom's house.

Fears
-I really want to do a VBAC but I'm afraid that I'll get scared of pushing and just start yelling for a repeat C-section before I give myself a chance.
-Going early again and having the fear of the health of the baby on top of the fear of L&D. Our whole experience was completely affected by the fact that DD was a month early and small.
-Taking care of two children by myself. We have lots of friends here but they all have their own kids so I don't want to impose on them too much. Not having family around for this one is going to be tough.
-PPD. I had baby blues pretty bad with DD so I just hope that it doesn't turn into something worse this time around.
-DD having adjustment issues with the new baby. The hard part is going to be constantly stopping her from trying to "love" the baby in the way of smothering, hitting or pushing. :rolleyes:

Rooming/Overnight Visitors DH will be home with DD, so no sleepovers for us. As far as having the baby sleep in our room, I'll just play it by ear like I did last time. You don't get a lot of rest anyways since the nurses are literally in there every hour.

Water breaking Mine did on it's own. I knew immediately that's what it was because I felt a "pop" (not painful) and then when I went to the toilet I saw the slightly bloody show. 5 minutes later it was gushing and lasted for quite awhile. I know most people don't have their waters break on their own though, but if does happen to you, it's really not too bad. A waterproof pad on your bed/seat of your car isn't a bad idea.

DD has been refusing to nap for the last hour and a half and I really wish she would just be quiet already and sleep. She'll be fun tonight if she doesn't nap. :rolleyes:

Missing old body?
I think I may be in the minority here, but I finally feel better about my body now. I have always struggled with my weight and I am amazed at how well I have kept my weight in check during the pregnancy. I am also quite happy with how my body has filled out, except for the split belly. Having said that, I am excited about trying to get healthier after I give birth. I have been doing well, and I would really like to continue with it later.

Rancid13 That hospital looks amazing!

Rooming- We plan to have DH and Carys in the room all night. We go for a hospital tour at the end of August, so we will find out more then.

Shower- I believe my SIL is throwing one for me on October 1st at our house. I love my SIL- but she is very young emotionally and so I don't know what to expect. She is actually 23, but acts about 15, so it makes me a little nervous.

It's been forever since I posted, but I thought it was about time I made time to do it instead of just waiting for some free time to materialize.

First a few stat updates:
my due date is 11/14
Follow-up u/s is this Sunday 7/30
My next appointment, w/ GTT and Thyroid check is 8/16

Things here have been keeping us busy. DH was out of town for 10 days. It was a bit tough managing work, DD, our dog and everything else. We're so glad he's finally home again. Baby is beating me up these days. Moving and kicking and punching all the time. I'm pretty uncomfortable and I think it's b/c he's laying sideways. I'm also starting to notice more general aches and pains - I think it's due to the fact that I don't have the time to exercise or walk regularly like I did with DD. Plus, I'm bigger earlier. Hopefully that doesn't mean I'll get bigger by the end too!

Missing old body? Nah, not really. I've never really loved my regular body, so at least now I have an excuse for the extra pounds. :P

Rooming- We'll probably keep the baby in the room with us most of the time. With DD, we kept her all but 6 hours or so the last night. She hadn't slept more than 20 minutes at a stretch at that point and we didn't want to be zombies when we got home. The nurses brought her to me every when she needed to nurse, (every 1.5 hours or so), and then we sent her back until the morning. DH stayed with me most of the time. He'd run home to shower and take care of the dog, but was in the hospital most of the time. When I was in labor, DH actually napped next to me. He was on call the night before and hadn't slept in about 40 hours when we checked in to the hospital. I have to say, that was a little annoying. When we returned to the hospital when DD was 4 days old, we were in the Pediatric dept, so I was technically staying in DD's room. So, there was no option of sending her to the nursery and I stayed in her room the whole time.

Fears - As a RO, my biggest fears are mostly regarding finding enough time to get things ready for this baby and how DD will react. She's already starting to act a little out of sorts. In the past week or two she's been extra clingy and tells me she's not a big girl, she's a baby. I also have fears that breastfeeding and pumping will be as difficult as it was before. But I'm determined to do as much for this kiddo as I did for DD, which is to let him self-wean when he wants.

Water breaking We were at a party when my water broke. It was a bit of a surprise, since I'd heard that most women's water does not break out side of the hospital. We had towels in both our cars at that point, but that was pretty much the only precaution we had taken. I was wearing panty liners regularly b/c of discharge, but it really didn't do much good. Luckily, the restroom of the place where the party was was stocked with a couple of maxi pads. I had to shout out of the stall to the line of people waiting asking for someone to please hand me a pad. A couple of those got me home without too much mess.

Classes No classes this time around. Last time we took a childbirth class and an infant care class. I wouldn't say that either were all that useful, but they do help the whole "we're having a baby" thing sink in!

Epidural I just wanted to mention that I had an epidural and was not completely numb from the waist down. It was not considered a walking epi, but I definitely felt contractions and pain. Just didn't want anyone to think that epidurals take away all sensation for everyone.

Anyway, I better wrap this up and get back to work. I will try to be better at posting. Take care of yourselves!

Welcome Euphorhea and congrats on your baby girl!

Feeling Anxious:: I am pretty nervous about labor and delivery in general. I don’t deal well with pain (too late now, right?) and not knowing how bad or what kind of pain I’ll experience scares me. That being said, I definitely want an epidural, if possible. And I’m anxious about breastfeeding and how difficult it will be.

Showers: I think I’m having 3 baby showers. One hosted by my mom's closest friend, one at work, and one hosted by my MIL and her friends. I think they will all be in early October or late September.

Rooming: I haven’t made up my mind about this. A friend of mine told me how glad she was to have her baby in the nursery at night so that she could sleep at night. However, I may want to keep the baby in our room the whole time unless I just need the rest. All of the delivery and post-partum rooms are private and I’m pretty sure DH will stay with me the entire time unless he has a work emergency.

Missing my old body: Yes!!! I’ve never weighed this much in my life either so it’s weird and a little unsettling to see the numbers keep going up. Although I know it’s for a good cause. :) I have so many cute clothes that I can’t wait to wear once I get my figure back (and I fully intend to do so with due time) and wear them again. I have a few things that I bought right before getting pregnant and haven’t even worn once! It will be like shopping in own closet for a while. :D

Birthing Classes: We are taking an Infant CPR class in August and a weekend childbirth class in September. I am hoping that they are beneficial because my DH is already complaining about having to spend almost 2 full days in the childbirth class. We’ll get a tour of the hospital though too, which will be nice.

Water breaking: I am praying that this will happen at night or while I’m at home! I can just imagine how mortifying it would be if it were to happen at work. Ugh. Luckily though the hospital is very close to my work so I guess it wouldn’t be a huge deal. Good idea though about the mattress pad and towels though.

I hope everyone has a great weekend and stays cool in this heat! :)

Anxious Labor and delivery are kind of scary to me because I have no idea what to expect. I am a tiny bit of a control freak and it freaks me out that this is something that I have so little control (when it happens, how quick it will be, etc.)

Showers I think I am having two. One for friends and one for family.

Missing my old body Definitely! I hate that my thighs rub together now! I have gained a lot of weight so far (23lbs) and it feels so gross. I really hope it comes off easily after the baby is born.

Birthing class We will probably skip going to a birthing class, but we will definitely do the hospital tour.

Wow, I can't believe we're in the last thread of our pregnancy! I'm still a ways off from the third tri, though.

euphorhea - Welcome!

Missing my old body Definitely! I hate that my thighs rub together now!
Ilovemygeek - Ditto on this! This is happening to me too, and it's even worse that it's so hot out :(

I definitley miss my old body, mostly because it was a hell of a lot easier to get dressed in the morning! I hate that I can only wear flip flops now... I need to go out this weekend for some more work appropriate shoes.

Birthing Classes: Ugh, we haven't even signed up for anything yet. My dr. suggested calling in August, when the schedule would be out for newer classes closer to my date. Now I'm worried we won't be able to get into one!

Shower: My best friend is throwing me one in October. She's promised it will be low key, since I'm not a big fan of being the center of attention. And she's aware I don't want it to be a surprise... too much risk of me looking like poo if it is a surprise!

Rooming: I haven't thought about this much, but it's nice to hear everyone's opinions, and what RO's think. I imagine DH will stay with me the entire time. Between the two of us, we can pretty much sleep anywhere, no matter how uncomfortable, so hopefully we'll still get some rest, even in the hospital. I'd like DD to be in the room with me at all times, but mostly because I'm paranoid and have seen too many Lifetime specials about babies being switched at birth. So I guess I'll just have to play it by ear, since I don't know how it'll really be, or how hard things might be those first nights.

Water breaking: That would be awful if it happened at work! I'm not even going to worry about this until much later... but will take everyone's precautions with towels in the car, etc.!

Epidural: I've learned that everything I thought about having a baby is useless until the time comes to really make a decision. I thought I'd want the sex to be a surprise. Once I got pg, nope, I wanted to know right away! I always thought I would be all for NCB, but at this point I'm definitely not ruling out epidural if I need one.

Fears: I think my biggest fear is that I'm totally underestimating how difficult it can be to give birth to a baby, and then take care of her when she's here.

--------------------------

I was actually up pretty early this morning, because I woke up and was totally sore, especially my hips. I hope this was just a one time thing!

I guess a good way to introduce myself would be to answer a few QOTD...

Birthing Classes: Ours start on the 13th of Sept and run every Weds until Nov 1st. They cover everything from relaxation methods to breastfeeding and infant care.

Shower: I won't be having a shower as I'm in the UK and they aren't that common here.

Rooming: As I hope to give birth in the local (10mins drive away) birth center DH will probably be allowed to stay the entire time.

Water breaking: Humm...is it a bad sign that I haven't thought about that yet :)

Epidural: I'm not sure this is an option at the birth center (I could be wrong) but I would like to try and avoid one if at all possible.

Fears: Can I just answer "yes, lots" ;) Most that have been stated here already. They just pop up at different times and on different days!

Welcome Peaches! :)

ausi2b ~ Cute belly shots! My guess for you would be a boy. When I was PG with my DD I gained weight across my middle. Now that I'm PG with a boy, people are telling me that I'm more out in front and in some outfits it looks like I swallowed a basketball. It looks like you are all tummy with no side weight gain, so put me down for a boy! :)

Welcome peaches!

Wow! Time sure is flying by these days. I just realized that I was 26 weeks this past Friday. :eek: I could be having our daughter in 12 weeks if we schedule it in late Oct!!!
It also freaks me out that DS is 22 months old today. Two months away from 2 years old. :) He's growing up so fast.

We went to a 2 year old's b-day party yesterday where they had a petting zoo right in their front yard! DS loved feeding the lambs... and he even took a ride on a pony!! I hope he doesn't think he's getting a petting zoo for his 2nd b-day! Kind of over the top.

I am THIS CLOSE to finishing wallpaper removal in the soon-to-be nursery. I have a small strip above the windows to remove & I'm done. Then I have to have my BIL come over and check out the drywall that may need replacing. If I'm lucky (and bribe my DH) maybe DH will start painting next week. I won't hold my breath as DH has been one lazy guy these past few weeks. We have different philosophies as far as housework goes. I say do it now and we can relax later.... he says relax now and do it last minute! Drives me crazy.

Anyhow... I'm off to browse the internet for a maternity bathing suit. I can't find anything in the stores that fits right. I don't know if ordering something off the net is a wise idea or not... but I need something for our vacation at the end of August.

Kat ~ I got a maternity suit at Motherhood (http://www.motherhood.com) online and was really pleased with it. I've gotten ones at Target and Old Navy, but the Motherhood was the best fitting. Good luck with the nursery!! And WOW about the petting zoo bday party!

ETA: If you have a hard time finding swimsuits online (you know how everything is the fall line now!), check out eBay. I was just out there and there are a bunch of maternity swimsuits.

I totally missed the new thread. I just thought everyone was being really quiet this weekend.

I've had a rough time... long story ahead, cross-posted from my LJ:

On Wednesday, I started having mild cramps, which I ignored and attributed to some... gastrointestinal issues. Cramps continued through to Friday, when I decided to call my doctor. We were planning to go to camping at Mt. Rainier this weekend, so I decided it would be best just to call my doctor and make sure everything was okay before heading out to the middle of nowhere.

Well, my doctor pointed out that mild, menstrual-type cramps are not a good thing, and that I should go to the hospital to get checked out. I was not too upset - they were so mild, I really figured I was being a drama queen and overreacting. I didn't even call DH - I didn't want to worry him with what I assumed was my paranoia. I went to the hospital and was wheeled up to the birth center in a wheelchair by an 80-year-old volunteer, which made me feel really bad. I felt like I should be pushing her. The nurse had me get in bed and started strapping on monitors. I guess with being in a hospital bed, with monitors everywhere, it started to sink in that something really might not be okay. I started crying a little bit, and the nurse was very reassuring and kind. I decided I needed to call DH. I tried not to freak him out, but the sentence, "Please don't be worried, I'm at the hospital," doesn't really do much to calm a person down. Then I got down to the business of being monitored. The had the doppler turned up nice and loud so I could hear Miranda's heart just thumping away, and I could hear every kick and movement as I felt it, which was cool. I was worried because I was supposed to press a button whenever a cramp began and then when it ended, but I couldn't really tell when that was - it was just all kind of mild and crampy and indistinct.

DH arrived, looking worried. We waited a bit longer, and the nurse came back and said she had talked to my doctor. I was having contractions every few minutes (which I certainly wasn't feeling). The nurse gave me an injection of terbutaline and said that I could either drink a liter of water in half an hour or have an IV. I chose the liter, and drank it in about ten minutes because I was so adverse to the IV suggestion. While drinking, I started to shake like nobody's business (from the terbutaline). It wasn't particularly uncomfortable, just strange. In the mean time, I started needing to go to the bathroom about every 15 minutes (from all the water), which was quite a production. Monitors were unhooked, and came with me, with cords draped around my neck, and of course I was still shaking like crazy. Then back in bed, monitors had to be readjusted and pile of blankets rearranged.

Doctor arrived and checked my cervix, which was fine - no worrisome changes. Monitors showed that the contractions had stopped. She sent me home with an Rx for Procardia, to continue taking to calm contractions, and instructions to rest and drink lots of water. She said no camping trip, which I had suspected would be the case.

So I'm home and resting, and I drank over a gallon of water yesterday, but I'm still worried. I'm still having some contractions, especially in the morning and evening. I don't know what to do. This is kind of freaking me out. I'll be calling my doctor tomorrow morning, and I have a feeling they'll put me back on the monitor. I just really hope these stop. :(

mimieliza ~ Hugs to you!! To ease your fears... I had pre-term contrax with my DD (a lot!). I was put on modified bedrest in July (she was born in Oct)., on strict bedrest in late August, and taken off bedrest altogether at 38 weeks. At 40 weeks, I was only a fingertip dilated! So after all that... the many, many, many weeks of contrax, the IVs, meds to stop contrax, being in the hospital, I still wasn't ready to have her even though I was full term. I know it's very scary to have to go to the hospital this early and deal with all of this. The great news is you aren't dilated. My OB told me the difference b/t pre-term labor and pre-term contrax is that with PTL you are dilated; with PTC it's more of a thing to monitor to make sure it doesn't turn into PTL. They will probably monitor you once/week on a non-stress test (NST) machine - that's the thing that they use to monitor the baby's heartbeat and your contrax with those 2 electrode like things. When I was going through all of that it became a very routine thing. I'm starting to go through the same thing again with this pregnancy. I've been having BH contrax all day long (posted about it in Pregnancy forum). I think I'll be calling my doc tomorrow morning... :( Hang in there and know that you aren't alone.

mimieliza - I hope your contractions stop asap. Your trip to the hospital sounds scary, but it also sounds like you handled it very well! I don't think I would have been the same. Good luck, thinking about you.

Peaches - Welcome!

ausi2b - I'm 23 weeks as well and we're about the same size. You look great!

The other day, DH felt the baby move for the first time! I've been feeling her move for about 3 weeks, and every time I'd feel her, DH would try and see if he could as well. He even lied a few times saying, oh, I think I felt her too! But yesterday he was able to detect when she was moving without me telling him first. So exciting!

Hi ladies! Had an awesome weekend away with dh and friends but back to the grind today. Forgive me for not following up with SO's and everything.

I wanted to come and post the name we chose since we ended up telling friends over the weekend. I don't think anyone else irl lurks on the boards so it's safe to share! We are naming our son Miles Charles

Phew. I'm happy to have that off my shoulders. It's hard keeping things like that a secret! We chose Miles mainly because we like it and it's widely known but not often used. It does hold a little meaning for us. Our first dance song was a Miles Davis song. We also conceived MILES away from home :D Charles is my fathers name. He died in 1997. The first name was between Miles and Charles so we test drove them and Miles seems to have stuck. We call him by name ALL the time!

GTT: I had this test last Tuesday so we are just awaiting the results with fingers crossed! I doubt we hear anything unless it's negative until our next appt and BIG u/s repeat on August 14th. I drank an orange liquid i'd best describe as orange kool aid without enough water. It didn't taste bad at all.

Prenatal Class We start our prenatal class TOMORROW!! :eek: I guess i need to read the phamplet and figure out what i need to bring and where i need to go. Dh is going to attend classes with me. It's a lamaze/infant care/epidural class all rolled into one. We are starting now and will be done in 6 weeks (32 weeks). The next set of class dates they offered would've ended at 38 weeks and i didn't want to risk not getting it all in. Hopefully we are not the only ones in the class that still have 14 weeks to go. I'll give an update on class Wednesday.

Swimming suit: (can't remember if i posted this before) I bought and wore (over the weekend) and LOVE this suit from Old Navy that i bought for $10!!! I'd recommend it to anyone. I'd tried on a suit at Motherhood but it was $40 so i took my chances ordering the old navy suit. I'm glad i did! It comes in other colors and patterns and they are all clearanced out right now. Over the weekend i told dh that we have to go somewhere next time i'm pg so i can wear it again :D I'm such a dork.

Missing my old body? I guess one benefit to not liking your old body is that you don't miss it when it's gone. lol. I was about 20-30 lbs shy of my goal weight pre pg and since i've gained more weight than i should've... i don't miss my old body at all unless you are talking about the size 4 body i had in highschool!

Showers: I'm having 1 and hopefully only one. My mom paid for my sisters and invited both families. She was planning to do the same for mine but then my mil indicated she might throw a shower. Personally, i think it's a silly thing to do since in her words she doesn't really 'care for' her family. So, why pay for a shower for people you don't like if you are only doing it because you were invited and attended all of theirs? weird, but whatever. I told my friend about it when she emailed me to get my families email addresses over the weekend. I'm hoping someone talks some sense into her since my mom has a $500 minimum whether there are enough people or not and if my mil has a seperate shower then my mom will be paying hundreds of dollars more than she needs to.

My mil also said she wants to throw a shower for dh. She said she wants to do a golf theme and invite all of his friends. I think it's a cute idea and a fun way for dh to celebrate with his friends. I suggested to my friend that perhaps she could suggest to mil just getting everyone a bucket of balls at the driving range then do sloppy joes (like she said she was going to do) and buy a box of cigars and the guys can sit around and shoot the breeze. Hopefully she will do this and not the other. Just my opinion, well, dh and i agree that if she tries to do both that he will insist that she only do the one for him. We are waiting to see what happens.

The earliest my shower would be is mid - end of Sept and mil indicated the first weekend in Oct. My sisters wedding reception (she was married last november) is this weekend and i'm pretty sure they were waiting until it is over to start any type of planning.

Welcome Peaches & Euphorhea!

mimieliza- Oh gosh! How scary! I'm thinking about you, i think we all are, and look forward to a positive update. Hang in there and take care of yourself and Miranda!

My update: WE BOUGHT OUR CRIB! There is a full recap in my journal but we bought our crib this weekend. It's from the discontinued Munire Salem collection. We bought it as a warehouse closeout (the store we were at is moving their warehouse so they are finding some lost stock and selling it in the store). It cost $499 and comes with the conversion rails! We are happy with it and feel like we got a pretty good deal.

We also bought a diaper bag!! There is a picture in my journal. We bought the skip hop duo diaper bag in burnt sienna corduoy! Hey, fall baby, right? :p

Welcome Peaches!

ausi2b- Your belly shots are great! I don't have anything to base my guess on, but I say girl. For some reason I think that all the suprises are going to be girls since there are so many boys in this thread!

katnbug- Wow! A petting zoo for a 2 year old's birthday! Very cool for all the people attending the party, but it sounds expensive. Are you taking pictures of your nursery progress? I always mean to do that when I do a project around the house, but then always forget until I am half way done!

mimieliza- yikes! sorry to hear about the contractions, but it is good news that you aren't dilated. I hope that the contractions stop. I am sending good thoughts your way!

catgirl- When does BH normally start in a pregnancy, is it closer to the end? Are any contractions that you have throughout pregnancy considered BH if they aren't consistent and making you dilate? Sorry for all the questions, but it sounds like you have experience in this area. I hope you don't have to go on bedrest again!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I went to Kohl's this weekend and bought some clothes for me and the baby. They were having a sale and almost everything in the store was 50% off. I was really suprised at the selection of clothes they had in Maternity. I actually found some shirts I could wear! They have some cute capris pants too. They also had a promotion where you got a $10 coupon for every $50 you spent. So, I had to go back the next day to use my coupon to buy more baby clothes! I am trying to stop myself from buying too many outfits, but the little clothes are so cute it makes it hard to stop!
So, everything is cool with the baby shower situation. My mom approached it like nothing ever happened and then ended up ordering the invites, talking like it was her idea to get the ball rolling this early. I love my mom but sometimes her thought process is anything but linear and rational. My sister refuses to be a part of the planning though.
Here are the invites that she picked out:
http://www.storkavenue.com/images_lg/4588CA.jpg
~~~~~

My husband booked his trip to California for October (we live in Boston). He is leaving the day after our baby shower. His sister is getting married and since his parents live in Hawaii, this is a bit of a family reunion for him so he is going for a week. We talked about him being away for that long so close to my due date but neither one of us are worried. I have to say I am so jealous though! I have not seen San Fran and wine country and I really wanted to go!

~~~~~
I need a glider and a changing table for the nursery but I do not want to spend a lot on either since they are “short lived” furniture. I may go to Target and the following:
$199.99
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000BNKG14.16._SCLZZZZZZZ_SS260_.jpg
I cannot decide on a changing table. I want either this one because it is cheap:
$84.99
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00008I9LA.16._SCLZZZZZZZ_SS260_V52653226_.jpg
or this one because it matches the lines of the crib (and is by the same company):
$139.99
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000CBSH3O.16._SCLZZZZZZZ_SS260_.jpg
I don’t know. Is it worth the $55 to have it match?
~~~~~

Afraid/anxious?
I worry about autism. What a horrible thing for a kid (and their family) to deal with!

Rooming:
I have not thought about this yet or discussed it with DH. Perhaps we can figure out after the hosp visit. I know that my hosp offers bassinets so I would like Connor to stay with me in my room.

Anyone really, really miss their old body?
Yes! I miss running and I miss being able to do any movement I want. I miss not having back pain at night. I miss my toned legs. I miss my energy level and knowing the triggers of my body better.

~~~~~
Katnbug – I hear you about wanting to do the nursery. We are selling where we live and trying to buy so we are in limbo. I cannot move on anything right now! Frustrating, isn’t it?
Roberta – sometimes ignorance is bliss, eh? After what you have seen at your job, I can imagine you would be worried because you are aware of so much.
Lydia – Thanks for the epi warning. Not having control over my body like that does not bother me, I think. I am sure it is freaky to not feel your legs but as long as I know it will wear off.
euphorhea – I cannot wait to see pictures of your invites. I am so with you in regards to just wanting to lay around and eat. I can have a tendency to be a couch potato sometimes but before pregnancy, I made a strong effort to stay active and stay in shape. The thing that keeps me active is the idea that labor and delivery will be easier if I do.
rubbersoul – Columbus Day is a mixed bag. Some have it off and some do not. I do, which is nice. Thank you for your supportive words. Everything is fine now. My mom still asks me for input, which I find odd, but I am just shrugging that off. I am with you - I want to be like my dad! :)
Rancid! Those rooms are incredible and huge! My hospital has a good reputation and the rooms are half that size. My goodness, your room looks like a hotel in comparison.
Sare – feel free to vent about your shower woes, if you want. You know that you will be surrounded by those of us that understand ;)
Peaches – Welcome!
Ausi – you look great! I am guessing boy.
Mimieliza – Oh my lord. I hope things are okay for you! Jeesh, if nothing comes of this and it ends up being a scare then it is still a really big scare. Hang in there.
Ellidew – I love the name Miles! Great choice.
mimieliza~ Oh my gosh, what a scare you had!! :eek: I'm keeping you and baby Miranda in my thoughts with the hope that it all passes and all goes well from here on out. Hopefully reading what catgirl wrote about having a similar (but slightly more escalated) situation with DD and having all turn out well in the end, reassured you somewhat. That's good that your cervix is still looking good, rest up and take it easy for awhile! ;)
ellidew~ I love the name Miles! I've known several Miles' in my life and they were totally cool guys. I like that it's not a super popular name too. Here's hoping for positive results from your GTT test. I'm not looking forward to mine but hope all goes well with it. :)
rubbersoul~ I guess the Kohl's near me just suck in terms of maternity clothes offerings, which is a bummer b/c in the Sunday circulars every other weekend they seem to have great sales going on for their maternity clothes. I've gone to the 2 nearest, and the most either one had was one rack of odds and ends stuck somewhere in the infant clothes section. We'd walked past it 3 times before an employee took us directly to it the 3rd time we asked. :(
Prenatal Classes~ We were finally able to mail in our prenatal class request pamphlet last week and got the test dates/times over the weekend in the mail. We picked up the pamphlet at our hospital orientation & tea on July 5...we don't start the birthing classes until Oct 4, and have a slew of other classes throughout September, October and November (baby care basics, life saver class, breastfeeding). The bf-ing class is the only one I'm worried about, as our date is the same week I'm due!! We need to call and see if they can fit me in for an earlier time slot of possible.
Rancid! Those rooms are incredible and huge! My hospital has a good reputation and the rooms are half that size. My goodness, your room looks like a hotel in comparison.
My thoughts exactly! It actually is a lot nicer (at least in pics) than a lot of hotels I've stayed in...and some of the rooms have views of Newport Harbor. A friend of mine who did her nurse's training in the women's center of that hospital told me the rooms really are that nice in person, but they dressed up the room in some of the pictures with a nice looking bedspread.
Those invites are supercute!! My BFF is working on invites for my shower as we speak, as work has been slow for her lately. I think we're either going with fall-themed, or something oceanic (think tropical fish). Can't wait to find out! I think it'd be worth $55 to having matching furniture, I love that nursery furniture you picked out! Have you sat on the glider yet, and if so, how comfortable is it? I'm on the hunt for a comfy but inexpensive glider + ottoman set.
Major vent/drama ahead... I had contrax all day yesterday so I drank a gallon of water throughout the entire day and was sitting or laying down for most of the day. I felt the same way this morning so I called my OB and she told me to go to the hospital. They tested my urine and did a febrile nuchael (sp?) something or another test. Very long story, short... I'm having contrax that they consider "uterine irritability". They aren't strong enough to cause me to be dilated. I'm supposed to "take it easy" for 3 days and keep drinking a ton of fluids. Then the nurse asked if I have family in the area (DH is on a business trip), I kind of laughed b/c my mom is pretty much useless. The nurse told me to do the best I could.
My mom knew I was in the hospital this morning b/c I called to see if she could go with me, but of course she had a more important drama in her life (her stupid A/C is not working - why she couldn't leave the house is beyond me. Her BF was supposedly coming over at 3pm to check it out for her; around 11am she called a repairman instead). My DH ended up canceling his flight to go with me and watch DD, so now he is driving to his destination b/c he couldn't get a later flight. :mad:
I called my worthless mom, who by the way does not work and has nothing better to do, she didn't even ask how I was. She immediately started b*tching about the A/C repairman who "stunk and had tattoos of naked ladies on his arms". Point????? I have 3 tattoos, not naked women, but seriously, what does that have to do with anything?? She finally took a breath long enough to ask how I was feeling and I told her what happened and how I'm supposed to take it easy, get help from family, etc. Do you know what her response was?? I quote, "I just don't know what to do. This is going to cost me $600 to fix. What should I do?" That's right. She didn't even bother to respond to what I had said. So I told her that I would let her go so she could figure out her A/C issues. Yes, it's freakin' hot, but WTF?? I'm having contrax at 25 weeks and have a 21 month old to watch after. All of my friends have kids of their own to watch after and I can't impose on them. My ILs live out of state and are older. I did call my one friend who is a SAHW with no kids and left her a mssg. Then I called DH and just started bawling to him. Seriously, WTF is wrong with my mom? I would say that I hate her (long history of situations like what I just described), but that would require me to have feelings for her at all and I just don't think I do. That might sound cold, but she's always been an extremely self-centered person. She comes over to "help" me on occasion but that's always just so she can visit with my DD. She cr@pped out on me during my last pregnancy when I needed help, too.
Sorry for the vent. I'm very, very upset right now. I keep crying and my DD thinks I'm laughing so she laughs and says, "All done Mommy!" I hate to do this, but I might have to have her watch TV so that I'm not chasing her around the house until bedtime.
Stupid server! I had a perfectly good reply written to you catgirl and lost it!
Basically it said, hang in there. Your daughter wont get damaged by watching tv and it's probably better on both of you if she's occupied. Also, call a friend even if you think they will feel like you are imposing, you aren't. If you were my friend i'd drop what i was doing, grab the kids, and come help. That's what friends are for. Also, i'm not one to comment on your mother since her asking you how you are and then interrupting with her own problems is a classic move my mom makes. She asks because she has to but doesn't give a hoot what your answer is. My mom and i are currently in good standing but it doesn't usually last very long. Hang in there and take care of you and your children.
Rancid - thanks for your input regarding the changing table and your compliments on the nursery furniture. I should not be so stingy, I suppose ;) I have not sat on the glider and may stop by Target to see if they have one set up. It gets a top rating on the website though so I was going to take my chances.
Catgirl - Jeesh, you poor thing! Seriously. I would be beyond pissed off and you do not need this stress right now. Not to sound cold myself but perhaps it is best you have no feelings for her, otherwise your head may explode from the rage.
Cool...I've been checking some of the gliders at BRU and Burlington Coat Factory, and the fabric feel is a major issue with me. Some of the gliders have been very comfortable, but then the fabric is too rough for me~I'm liking the sueded feel and microfiber upholstery so maybe I'm a bity picky, LOL! :)
catgirl I can't believe how self-centered your mom turned out to be. Any chance of hiring a nanny for a couple of hours during the day? It's still summer so you might be able to hire a high school/college kid to come in and take DD out to the park or just play with her at home, so you don't have to be all alone. {{{{hugs}}}} take care of yourself.
catgirl - What an awful situation! It's almost like not having a mom at all if she's that oblivious to your needs and situation. I agree that having DD watch more TV than usual for a while won't damage her and could really make a difference in your health and energy. Although I don't have kids yet, I think that ellidew is right about your friends. This is a specific situation that could really use emergency help and I'm sure you would do it for them in a heartbeat so don't be afraid to ask! Hang in there and take care!
Thanks so much everyone! I'm a bit more calmed down now and have been playing with DD and her baby dolls on the floor. She's being really good today.
ellidew ~ I'm sorry your mom acts similarly. Not fun, is it? I've vowed never to be a mom like that and if I can help it, I'll succeed.
Rancid ~ Thank you. It helps just knowing that my feelings are justified. She always has a way to make me feel like I'm wrong.
mermccau ~ Thank you for your support. She's something, isn't she? I'm amazed I have a realationship with her at all. BTW, I really thought your pumpkin invitations were cute. I forgot to mention that when I was venting away.
Franni ~ That's a great idea about hiring someone. There's a 13 or 14 year old girl who lives next door. I'm thinking about calling her parents. We already pay her brothers to mow our lawn b/c we have no time for that. I'm also thinking about braving the heat tomorrow to take DD to her Gymboree music class... just to get out.
bijouparvin ~ Thank you for your support, too. My friend who is married w/ no kids called back and she's busy tomorrow but is coming over on Wed. DH is back tomorrow night but gone again on another trip on Wed. Bad stuff always happens when he's out of town.
Back to playing with baby dolls. Thank you again to everyone for your support and ideas. It really means a lot.
catgirl I feel your pain in a roundabout way. While my relationship with my mom is okay, we have no family within 900 miles and ALL of my friends in the area have their own kids. Being put on bedrest and being beholden to the kindness of busy friends with kids is my current "fear" of this pregnancy BUT I do know that if one of my friends called with a situation similar to yours, that I would go and get their kid(s) even though I have a 20 month DD and am 6 months pregnant. People will come to your aid without giving it a second thought, so if you really need help don't hesitate to ask. It all evens out in the end anyways and you'll be able to repay them by watching their children at some point as well.
If you're anywhere near Lexington, KY....I'll come get your DD and she and my DD can play together. :D
Thank you for all the kind thoughts and support. I am doing much better. I got scared last night due to the continued cramping, so I went back to the hospital. They didn't find anything on the monitor except a very busy baby who kicked the monitor and ran away from the doppler. The nurse said that I was probably having Braxton Hicks, or that the baby was so active she was causing some discomfort. I had an internal exam, and all was well with my cervix.
I saw my doctor today, and it was pretty much the same story. I'm starting to feel that this might just all pass uneventfully. I also had my GTT, and I'm a weirdo. I liked the glucola. It was yummy. I have a serious sweet tooth problem.
I'm still taking Procardia, and it is knocking me out. I am so, so exhausted and feeling somewhat mentally fuzzy. I'm just not all there. OTOH, DH suggested maybe it was a crash after my sugar fest this morning with the glucola. Did anyone else crash after their GTT?
catgirl - I'm sorry you're having the same thing going on and that your mother is being such a piece of work. I agree with other posters - lean on your friends (that's what they are there for, and I'm sure you'd do the same for them) and let your DD watch TV to her heart's content.
euphorhea and peaches - Welcome! It's so exciting to see some new faces in our thread! :)
prenatal classes - Mine start in Sept. I'm looking forward to them. :)
time flying by - I feel like the first trimester dragged on FOR-EVAH. DH thinks it went by really fast. I guess that goes to show what being sick for three months does to your perception of time. But this trimester has flown by so fast it's scary - a few months ago, I felt like I was jumping the gun by ordering a crib, buying diapers, buying a stroller, etc. But now I feel really behind! There's so much left to do.
things I'm afraid of - Everything. I'm a worrywart. Right now, I'm terrified of having a premature baby. I'll feel a little better in a month or so, and MUCH better once we're past 32-33 weeks.
rooming in and DH at hospital - We just talked about this today - when I was at the hospital this weekend, I was in a double room, but the birth center was practically deserted. I was wondering if I got a double room if DH could sleep on the second bed. I've heard that the birth center is never full enough to require both beds in the double rooms to be filled. I definitely want baby to room in with me.
Missing old body - No, I love my new pregnant body. I was not very pleased with my body when I got pg. Now I love looking pregnant, and I like the new super-sized boobs. ;) I'm just now starting to notice that I'm putting on weight elsewhere (like my ass), and I'm kind of huge for 25 weeks and outgrowing much of my maternity clothes, so we'll see how long I remain pleased with my new shape.
Speaking of huge, BOTH days that I went to the hospital, the admitting people thought I was there to give birth. I got very indignant and told them I sure hoped not, since I'm not due until November. They were very embarassed.
brio96 ~ That is so sweet of you! I wish I did live near Lexington, but I'm in the Chicago area. :( You're right, it does all even out in the end. One of my friends is coming over this afternoon, and another friend who has a baby and a toddler is coming over on Wed. I'm hoping DH will be able to work from home 1-2 days/week, just for a little while anyway.
mimieliza ~ I'm so sorry you had another scare. Now that you've gone through this, don't you question every little ache and pain? I know I do and I've been through this before! Like you, I'm very scared of having a preemie. Oh, I haven't had my glucola test this time around yet, but I did like the way it tasted the first time, so you're not weird. :)
mimieliza sorry you are having such a scare. Hope that the contraxs stop and you can sit down with your feet up and relax.
catgirl1007 Sorry you are having such a hard time and your mom is not helping! (Seriously, does she know my mother? Maybe they are sisters?) Glad to hear some friends are coming over to help out.
rooming in and DH at hospital I know my hospital really encourages the baby rooming in. Each room is private and has it's own bath with shower. DH will most likely go home to take care of the dogs and get some real rest. When MIL was in a serious car accident two years ago, we both slept on the fold out guest beds at the hospitaland alternated nights. Between the comfort of the bed and the staff coming in at least every hour to check on MIL, we did not get any real rest. So I don't want to put him through that again.
missing old body kind of a mixed bag for me. I am really impressed (if I do say so myself) with how well my body looks and is handling pregnancy. I meant, I am growing another person inside there! I am tall with a large frame(broad shoulders, big feet, broad hips, round butt), no matter what my actual weight. So I have never been focused on the actual weight number, but how I look. Of course, this is the heaviest I have ever been and it is freaky to see that number steadily rise each month. The stech marks bother me the most, who has strech marks on their bbs at 3 months. The marks on the side of my waist are worse-angry and red. The Dr. Palmer's strech amrk cream seems to be helping the bbs. (DH even noticed)
I found a Medela PIS traveler breast pump on craigslist for $80. The woman included a new unused set of attachments and tubing that she planned in using for her second child, but she ended up not pumping. So used but kind of brand new (the important parts anyway). We also stopped by a consignment store and found a really nice crib in great condition. Our crib bedding has arrived, so this weekend we are looking at paint and will start working on the nursery.
I have been feeling some pressure and abdomen tightness. I am worried that these maybe BH- but I since I am a first timer I don't know. They aren't at regular intervals so I haven't called the dr's office. I have an appointment on Thursday so I will discuss it with the MW.
Hey everyone, I know I've been totally MIA lately. DH's mom passed away last week, so life has been kinda crazy. We spent all last week in Chicago with his dad and we came home over the weekend. I am slowly trying to get back to normal life. It really sucks to see DH so sad. He'll be ok - it will just take some time.
In baby related news, things with me are still going well. I feel like I'm getting bigger by the day. Had my 26 week appt yesterday and all is well. I go for my GTT at the end of this week. We have started working on the nursery. We had to prime the walls to get rid of the medium purple color that was in there. Took 3 freaking coats of primer! So now we're ready to paint it a nice light green. My glider was delivered over the weekend and we put that together right away. I am so in love with it. Otherwise, we're waiting on our dresser and crib that we ordered (could be up until late Sept until that comes in), and DH needs to stain the bookshelf and nightstands we bought a couple weeks ago.
Catching up on some questions....
Time flying Um, yeah! The third tri (which I think I start this weekend) has TOTALLY snuck up on me. How the heck did that happen?! And my two showers are now a little over a month away! Craziness.
Prenatal classes Ours start on Aug 22 and are once/week for 6 weeks. We are both excited to start!
Fears Well, everything really. But mostly I'm scared of a pre-term birth, birth defects and something going wron
