ellidew- How exciting! Let us know if you find anything out for sure!

Early baby- She had better be early! The doc said at my appt on the 26th that they would give me one month, and if I did not go into labor by then, then we would have another u/s to gauge her size, and get the process moving from there. Considering I am due on Nov. 2, Oct. 26th is at least a little early! DH thinks that I will go into labor myself in the next 2 weeks, but I think that is just wishful thinking on his part. I hope he is right, but I don't necessarily think that he isl.

Footed pj's- we got a ton of these at the shower. That said, I have no idea how many we are supposed to have.

nic- congrats on the dilation! My first internal is tomorrow, and I hope to be joining the already dilated club!

Had my 32 week appointment today and everything looks good. I think we'll be scheduling me for induction about a week before my due date (EDD is 11/26). There are several reasons for this - ds #1 was 8 1/2 pounds and got stuck behind my pubic bone during delivery. This resulted in a vacuum assisted birth and episiotomy, plus I damaged my tailbone during delivery and still have problems with it today. Talking to my ob this morning, she feels we can safely schedule an induction for 7-10 days before the EDD. I would also be ok with an October baby if I knew for sure he'd be ok. I am very uncomfortable, huge, can't sleep, blah, blah, blah! :rolleyes:
Tonight is the family tour at the hospital - hope it isn't a total waste! BTW - Thursday is my 34th birthday, so I guess my age needs to be updated sometime. No hurry though! ;)

euphorhea - I meant to comment on your coming home outift - it is beautiful! I don't know if you've heard this but some people do have trouble with gowns and the straps on an infant car seat. The gown ends up getting pushed all the way up to the hips in order to get the straps buckled. Sorry if you've already got it figured out - just wanted to mention it. :)

Next appointment is 10/18.

Early delivery I hope so!! Just not too early though so I don't have to worry about a preemie again and the weight gain issues we dealt with before. Any time after 36 weeks (which is when DD was born) is good with me. I keep having little talks with DD#2 about coming out either the 27th (the 26th is our anniversary so the next day would be great!) or November 1st. I also really want this baby to be born as far away from December 1st as possible (DD's 2nd birthday) so that they each get their "special time". Plus, we are having a party for DD on 11/30, so I need to be back on my feet and ready to throw said party. :)

Mucous plug I'm pretty sure mine came out all at once but I was in such denial that I was actually in labor when it started happening that it could have come out over a few hours (or even the day before). It's a definite sign that things are starting to happen though.

Thanks Dad.... We (I) have a website for DD so that we can share all of her accomplishments and pictures with long distance friends and family. On the most recent update of the site, I posted a picture of myself at 33 weeks pregnant and my dad actually called to ask me if I was sure that there weren't two in there because he thought I looked really big for just carrying one. Like I didn't feel enough like a whale these days. :rolleyes:

Here's the picture in question:

http://img.clubphoto.com/jerboa/175000276/512/null/image.jpg

I don't think it's "that bad".

Update-my bday is tomorrow (lots of early October moms in this thread) and I'll be 31. No hurry to update though. I have nothing planned for the day except eating cake. Lots of cake. ;)

Katnbug~ I can’t believe your little girl will be here in just a few weeks, egads!! :eek: Is your doc having you do any at-home monitoring of your bp? Mine has been up at my last few appts and my doc is concerned about the pre-e thing, even though my at-home readings (2-3x/day) have been far below what she says is the threshold for high bp (140/90). I’m being sent in a couple times a week (starting tomorrow) for the non-stress test at the hospital to ensure that all is well with the baby. I went to a walk-in clinic over the weekend to get my skin checked out and my bp reading there was 130/60 (and I was super stressed out that night) so I’m not to worried about things.

I was peeking in the May 2007 mommies thread. They are just having their first appointments and worrying about MS and what to eat. Weren't we doing that just last week? I am strting to feel like time has flown. OTH, I looked at my belly in the mirror last night as I was changng and thought "yep, still more growing to do!"

Yes, that was just us last week, I swear!! :eek:

Lilo~ Glad to hear the appt went well! Yay for getting the nursery put together too!

Onesies~ I have NO IDEA how many of each kind we have, we got so many clothes as gifts and they’re currently in a bag in the living room…I’m not taking anything out or washing it until we have a place to store it (ie: once the extra room is cleared out and the dressers are delivered).

Nic~ Glad to hear you had a wonderful shower and that everything looked great at the dr’s appt! I haven’t had an internal since my first ob appt way back when. The only other time something has been involved with “down there” was at my first u/s when they used the internal u/s to check on my cervix.

Acrane~ Yay for another “everything’s good” appt! Have fun at the hospital tour tonight! I get to check out our hospital tomorrow when I go in for my NST, which I’m actually looking forward to because it’s a brand new women’s wing and I’m sure everything will check out fine with the testing/monitoring they’re gonna be doing.

Nesting~ I'm happy to announce that the nesting bug has officially bitten me, at long last!! I went to the walk-in clinic Sat night and got some more of those 'magic' pills (or so I call them) that made my skin irritations/redness a mere memory. I had to beg her to write the prescription but I'm glad I did because it's working! I woke up Sunday morning with one goal in mind: Clean!! I cleaned the house top to bottom, with the exception of the 2 bathrooms and the extra bedroom, which DH is still clearing of his stuff. I'll get to the bathrooms later this week. Did about 5 loads of laundry, 2 sinks of dirty dishes, and threw out 5 large trash bags of junk. DH said our place hasn't looked so clean since the day we moved in. It felt good to get it all sparkling...I'm on a roll and am feeling like getting a lot accomplished this week. Next up: cleaning out the master bedroom closet and the linen cabinets. :D

Washing baby's clothes~ Is it necessary for me to buy that special baby-care detergent they sell at BRU, or is it ok for me to use the All Free & Clear detergent to wash the baby's clothes in/with? DH and I both have sensitive skin, so we use the dye/perfume free detergent and fabric softeners and I'm wondering if that's ok also for the baby's clothes??

acrane - Your due date is one day after mine. But that's great your dr. is monitoring you so you don't have the same problems as the last time.

Kyrsten - I can't believe you'll probably give birth this month! This is getting more and more real to me now...

nic - How exciting you're dilated! Things are starting to move in this thread!

lilo - I hear you on how hard it is to convince DH to hire people to get work done. It's great our DHs are competent and CAN do it, but having the time to do it is another story entirely! I finally got him to hire an electrician to replace the lighting in the nursery, and wouldn't you know, the electrician cancelled, so DH did half the work himself this weekend. Good luck finishing your bathroom!

roberta - a baby is a MUCH better anniversary present than a trip, IMO :)

Carpal Tunnel - So I finally got around to calling my doctor's office, and a nurse said I likely have carpal tunnel with all of the numbness in my fingers (confirming the info ellidew posted for me last week on my symptoms). Boo! It's worse in my right hand, and I'm using a computer all day and typing, using a mouse, so I'm guessing that is the culprit. It's funny, because it says to use a brace, rest your hand, or that yoga might help. So it's probably not great that last week I skipped my prenatal yoga class and went to the Red Sox game! Did I mention at this game I had vanilla soft serve and a pretzel for dinner to top off skipping yoga?

Anyhow, I'm pleased to say our nursery furniture came this weekend, and I love it! The nursery still isn't entirely set up yet, we still need to replace the window molding and get some better lighting in there. I also still need to wash the bedding, but here's a preliminary picture that shows the bedding, crib, wall color and part of the dresser:

Okay... I'm borderline starting to freak out. I had my weekly NST today at 9am. My mom came over to watch DD and I told her I'd be home by 10am, thinking it'd be a no big deal NST. NEVER think that!! So I'm lying there reading my book and the nurse comes in, tears off the NST paper and goes to get the Nurse Practioner (who I love!). The NP came in and told me that DS's heartrate dropped below the baseline, they were concerned and they wanted me on it for another hour. Okay... so I stayed on it for another hour and things looked fine. I even had a contraction and he handled it well. I also had a bunch of little contractions that are called "uterine irritability" so the NP did an internal and I'm now dilated a fingertip on the outside, but closed on the inside - I have no idea what that means (inside/outside).

So then she told me that she was concerned about the heartrate dip and wanted to talk with the doctor on call, who happens to be my favorite OB and she delivered DD. Both the NP and this OB are totally on top of things and I trust them 150%. The NP came back, said she talked with the OB and she recommended a biophysical ultrasound. I had no idea what that was (click here (http://pregnancy.about.com/od/biophysicalprofile/a/biophysical.htm)). Another web site said that it helps to prevent antenatal death!! :eek: Scary stuff.

The OB said that at any given point a pregnant woman's baby can have a heartrate dip. What concerns them is that here I am coming in only one time/week and it just so happens that they caught a dip on the NST - kind of unlikely considering there are 7 days in a week/24 hours in a day, kwim?

SO.... I have to go back today for the biophysical profile. If everything is fine, then they want me back on Thurs. for another NST. If the rating is not good on the biophysical profile then... gulp... I guess they might induce, which at 34 weeks is unlikely, so I guess they'd do a c-section. They didn't mention induction or c-section - it's what I read online. I must stop reading stuff online!! I'm really hoping that it's just a weird coincidence that they caught this on NST and that I can come home and wait out the rest of this pregnancy.

Sorry so long!! Also sorry for no SO's. I'm off to peruse the rest of CC and the web and hopefully take my mind off of things. Be back to update later (hopefully).

Mayham~ Sorry to hear about the carpal tunnel! Is there anything you can do to relieve it?? Your nursery looks great! The colors go fantastically together!!

Catgirl~ Oh, no! I'm so sorry about the freak out at/after the NST!! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for your u/s appt today and hoping hoping that the heart rate drop was a fluke thing. I'll be keeping you in my thoughts today!! Thinking good thoughts for you and the baby.:)

catgirl1007 - Thinking of you and hoping everything goes okay this afternoon. That's great they were able to get you in right away, it sounds like your dr.'s office is on top of everything and that you're in great care.

Rancid13 - Thanks! I was really worried about the wall color working with the bedding (as was DH, because as much as he was trying to make me feel better saying he didn't mind re-painting... I knew he didn't want to!). RE: the carpal tunnel, I can start wearing a brace, but other than not doing what aggravates it (no chance of that, I still have 8 more weeks of work to go!) there's not really anything you can do. BTW, I was looking back in the thread and saw the pics of your shower, you look great, and your shower looked like so much fun!

Sorry I have not been around much. I try to follow along, but have been fairly busy and also very irritable (last week) and did not want to have my crankiness broadcast all over. :p

To add to the discussion of early labor, this is a x-post from my LJ...

We had a major scare, but all is well now...

On Thursday, I was getting some minor cramping- nothing that I was worried about. Later that night, the pains got worse. I was awoken several times because the cramps were beyond painful. By morning, I was achy all over and having a hard time breathing, the cramps were continuing... So I called my mom to complain. She freaked and said I need to call my OB immediately. I did so and they told me I needed to get to Labor & Delivery, immediately- because I was most likely in pre-term labor!!!!! :eek:

Very scary words at this point. Baby is considered nearly full-term at 32 weeks, and has much better chances of survival and less problems, but 31 weeks, 2 days is not a good time for delivery at all.

Fortunately, I got to the hospital without a problem and DH arrived 15 minutes later. I got admitted and they began fetal and contraction monitoring. I also had an u/s, blood drawn and UA. My friend picked DD up less than an hour after I got there and proceeded to have a GREAT time with my pal and her daughter- who is 3 and loves DD! :-)

After laying around for a while, monitors beeping, trying to rest, getting another u/s (still no gender confirmation), trying not to complain about the all-over aching and shocks of pain and drinking more liquids than I normally drink in a day, I was told I had a bad infection and was sent home. My entire body was aching and the baby's kicks were causing excruciating pain. It was so awful. I was not allowed to have pain meds, either. Fun, huh? Anyway, we picked up my anti-biotics and headed home. I tried drinking more liquids and relaxing until DD arrived home a few hours later. I could tell she had fun, so that made me feel less guilty about pawning her off for the day.

By Saturday moring, I woke up feeling a lot better. The meds had kicked in and have continued to do so. I can tell when it has been 6 hours because they lose their effectiveness and I need to pop another antibiotic. Despite this help, I am super sensitive still and the baby's kicks are torture. Not fun at all, but I know I have less than 2 months to go. :o Hopefully baby will stay put until my scheduled c-section on 11/20.

DH is convinced baby is coming in October, despite me explaining that DC#2 will not be strong enough until at least November and healthy enough to come home with us.

catgirl- Yikes! I am sorry to hear that you have more to worry about on top of everything else you have been dealing with during this preganancy. On the other hand I am glad that you are getting lots of monitoring and your OB's office is on top of things. I hope that you get nothing but good news after the biophysical profile.

mayham- Your nursery is looking good! I think the bedding and wall color work well together :). I love the stain on the crib and dresser too! Sorry to hear about the carpal tunnel. I hope it goes away once the baby is born!

brio- Happy Birthday tomorrow! I can't see your pic, but I am sure you look great.

roberta and acrane- My DH's birthday is also on Thursday! Happy Birthday to you both!

nic and kyrsten- I guess you two are better prepared than I am at this point. The thought of having a baby in the next 2 weeks freaks me out! I will be happy to see the cute baby pictures and hear your birth stories though! Maybe that will help me get out of the denial I seem to be in right now ;).

ellidew- I am dying to know if it was your mucous plug starting to come out. All this talk of dilation and babies being born this month is too much for me. I guess I am still thinking that labor and delivery is this thing that is going to happen a long time from now. I think I need a reality check!

katnbug- You seem so calm about the fact that you are going to have a baby in about 3 and 1/2 weeks or less. Can you send some of that my way :). Sorry to hear that you DS spent most of his party crying due to the other kid...I know you mentioned him before, who is Robbie again? Your nursery looks great!!!

lilo- yay! on the nursery progress!

footed pj's- I have about 10 of these in various sizes. I hate doing laundry, so I try to buy plenty of the things the baby will be wearing often.

Sweaty- Not really. I have noticed that my deodorant hasn't been working as well as it once did.

push present- I hadn't heard of this, but I mentioned it to my DH last night. Hopefully he took the hint ;).

baby coming early- No Way! This kid needs to stay put until at least Nov. 5th. DH finishes his last rotation on the 4th of Nov. and I really don't want to go into labor while he is in Canada. I have a huge fear of him not making it home in time for the birth. I am also worried about thinking I am in labor, calling him and telling him to get his butt home, and then it not actually being the real thing. That leads me to this question...

RO's - were you ever not sure if you were actually in labor or not? If DH is in Canada and I think labor has started I need to give him the head's up immediately so he can find a flight and get home. I guess if my water breaks then I will know, but that seems like it doesn't really happen all that often.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I e-mailed the doula I interviewed last weekend and let her know that we wanted to hire her. I have not heard anything back from her and it has been days...this is not a good sign. All my previous e-mails were answered very promptly, so I am suprised that I haven't heard anything back from her. I don't know if she just didn't feel as comfortable with me as I did with her or what, but if she doesn't want to work with us, she should at least let me know that. I understand that the birth experience is very intimate and everyone has to be comfortable. Now I am thinking that maybe she wouldn't be the right person for us since she is has been so slow to respond. I guess I will wait another day or two to see if she has been out of town or something. I am just so annoyed...should I be or are my hormones getting the better of me?
Sorry i can't send so's right now but i wanted to post a quick update...
mucus plug update: Well ladies i guess i'm the first that can report (at least i think i'm first. sorry if i missed someone that already is!!) that i've dilated to a finger tip and i'm about 30% effaced. :) It was most likely part of the mucus plug that i lost yesterday. The doctor said that it's mostly intact still but that i've softened and just slightly dilated. EEK! lol. He also said that it's just what they'd expect to see at 35 weeks so, no worries.
It's very weird to talk about being dilated! I'm not going to tell anyone irl because my mother and mil especially have a way of blowing things out of proportion. I'm sure the only part of the story either of them would remember would be the word 'dilated' and then i'll have to hear about how this baby is going to come early and will be here any time now. blah blah blah. As a matter of fact i don't think i'm going to give them any updates from here on out ;)
My next appt is Wednesday Oct 11
ETA: Oh yeah, and i'm measuring RIGHT ON for 35 weeks. At 28-29 weeks i was measuring 2 weeks ahead but since then i've been right on track. Another thing my mil blew out of proportion and just kept going on and on about the giant baby we were going to have! I know i've seen threads and/or posts about measuring ahead. I only had 2 measurements that were ahead otherwise i've been right on. I guess Miles just had a qrowth spurt!
Be back later to post more...
Neenbean~ Oh, wow! I’m so sorry to hear about the big scare you had last week!:eek: I couldn’t even imagine the thoughts that would be running through my mind in that situation. That’s interesting that it was an infection coupled w/the baby’s kicks that was causing so much pain! I’m glad the meds helped with the pain, but am so relieved to hear that it wasn’t actually pre-term labor! Whew!! Baby, stay put for another 7 weeks please!! :)
Rubbersoul~ I hope you hear back from the doula soon! Perhaps she’s out of town, or her computer access is down? Do you have a phone number at which you can try reaching her? Oops, just saw your most recent post and am so happy to hear that she wants to work with you guys!! I haven’t heard/seen anything from Mermccau lately either…:confused:
Ellidew~ I’m so glad you called the dr and got a good answer to put your mind at ease!! So it was likely part of the mucus plug, eh? Glad to hear he said it looks like everything is happening right on as far as timing goes. That is so strange to hear you’re already starting to be dilated, wow!! :D :cool:
footed pj's- I have about 10 of these in various sizes. I hate doing laundry, so I try to buy plenty of the things the baby will be wearing often.
That's the number I was thinking too. The thing I'm concerned about too is how fast babies grow out of the 0-3months as well. Both my DH and I are fairly tall so I would guess our baby will be in the 8 pound range (maybe even 9? I have no idea) so I don't want to get too many 0-3 months but I also hate doing laundry all the time. Do you think 6-7 of 0-3 months and 6-7 of 3-6 months would suffice? Sorry for all the questions but I feel so clueless!
katnbug
10-02-2006, 01:52 PM
Katnbug~ I can’t believe your little girl will be here in just a few weeks, egads!! :eek: Is your doc having you do any at-home monitoring of your bp?
The dr. I saw this past Saturday did not tell me to start monitoring at home. He didn't make a big deal about the numbers - but he did say that with my history of severe pre-e it would be best to "take it easy". I do have a home bp machine, so I'm checking it once a day on my own anyways. I figured I will rest a ton this week (if that's possible) and see what happens at my appt. next Saturday!!
baby clothes detergent- I started out using only Dreft. After a while I bought whatever "baby" detergent was the best price. Purex makes one, and All makes one too. DS never had a bad reaction to any of them.
catgirl- YIKES! I hope your appt this afternoon shows everything is ok! I really hope it was a coincidence that the heartrate drop happened while you were being monitored! As others have pointed out, it's great that your dr. is on top of things. Devin is going to be the sweetest & easiest baby in the world for having put you thru all of this crap during your pregnancy!! ;)
neenbean- Glad you're feeling better, despite the hard kicks from baby. Hopefully your little one stays put a while longer.
ellidew- That's crazy that your plug is already coming out!! I feel like I'm never going to have any of the "normal" pregnancy things happen to me. I didn't lose my plug last time, I didn't dilate as far as I know, I didn't have a single contraction that I could feel, I never had my water break etc... NOT that I mind too much, but I just feel like I have no clue about these things!
rubbersoul- I'm a-ok with the fact that our DD will be here in 3 1/2 weeks! Only because I'm sick of being pregnant!!! Once the nursery is absoluetly done, I'll feel even more ready. I think we've got the other small things under control. If I make it to 37 weeks I'll be really happy. :)
Hurricane Robbie is my friend's son who came over a month or two ago and tore my house apart!! In the process he scared the crap out of DS. We really didn't think DS would remember because we haven't seen this kid since. But the second DS saw Robbie he burst into uncontrollable tears. He stopped crying at the pizza place and actually seemed to be enjoying himself. But once we got back to our house & Robbie was playing with DS's toys DS freaked again. :rolleyes:
mayham- I love the colors in your nursery. And the color of your furniture too!! Very nice!
baby clothes detergent - I don't trust the baby detergents because they all have so much fragrance. I can't use any perfumed detergents - it makes me itch, makes my eyes itchy and watery, and I sneeze. I've been washing all our clothes in Charlie's Soap (http://www.charliesoap.com/index.asp), which I love. I washed the baby's flannel sheets in it last night, and they are so soft!
neenbean - How scary! I'm glad you got in to L&D right away and are starting to feel better.
catgirl - I hope everything goes okay at your u/s!
ellidew - I cannot believe you are already dilating! I can't believe we're waiting now to see whose baby will go first!
mayham - I really like how the wall color sets off the warmth of the wood color on the furniture. :)
footed PJs - I now have lots of outfits in all sizes (an embarrassing number, actually) but few basics like PJs, undershirts, onesies, socks, etc.
baby coming early - It feels weird to admit, but I'm actually starting to feel ready, whereas even a week ago, I would start crying at the thought of her coming any time before her due date because I felt so unprepared. I'm playing in an orchestra concert on Oct. 14, but any time after that would be okay. I'd prefer if she waits until at least Oct. 30 or so - I don't want her too early.
Back with an update and then off to crash... everything is fine - thank goodness! I scored a perfect 10/10 on the biophysical u/s. It did take quite some time b/c she couldn't get him taking a breath and she had to get 2 in 30 minutes for me to get a full score on that aspect. Thankfully she finally got it. Then I had an acupuncture treatment to keep my BP down (it's been slowly going down ever since I started acu again). Part of me is sad that we're not going to have any babies after this one, but part of me is relieved b/c it seems that my body poops out in 3rd tri. I'm completely wiped now. I'll be back tomorrow to catch up with everyone. Thank you to everyone for your good thoughts and well wishes. :)
I just caught up with the last week of posts. Whew! Things are really moving along. I don't think I can muster the energy for SOs, but just wanted to let everyone know that I am reading along.
My update is that we found out Tuesday that my partial placenta previa has moved out of the way. It is still laying low, about 2.2cm from the cervix, but far enough away that my homebirth midwives have cleared me. Yay!
I have one more week of work, and am so glad to be almost through. My body can't take much more of the physical stuff. Saturday is my last event, then my shower is on Sunday, so I will be a happy camper.
Anyone else breech? It seems like the worries never end, but I haven't seen anyone else mention this one yet. Our little man is sitting head up, and now my midwives are starting to be concerned. I've got a whole list of things I have to do on a daily basis (hands and knees, pelvic tilts, music down my pants, moxibustion) as well as going to see my acupuncturist and chiropracter to try to get this guy to turn. I've been doing the stuff for about 4 days so far, and of course he hasn't turned yet. If he doesn't turn in the next 2-3 weeks I'll be going in for a version. Yuck.
<snip>music down my pants<snip>
This just cracked me up in a "party in my pants & everyone's coming" sort of way.:p
Anyhow, my little one keeps moving ALL around in there. Some days he's lying completely down low, other times I feel his head right below my rib cage. I still have 2 months to go though, so hopefully that'll be more than enough time for him to turn head-down in preparation. In bed at night I enjoy pushing on his head and making him move all around. :)
Breech - Yes, baby girl is breech, and she hasn't budged from that position in about six weeks (I'm 34.5 weeks now). I tried the hands-and-knees position, but holy crap, that has got to be the most uncomfortable position while pregnant! We may try an external version later on (my OB mentioned it) - I need to talk to my OB about the risks and benefits.
I do like being able to pat her on the head all day, though. :)
Serious Nesting - I was hit by the nesting bug this weekend. DH and I worked all weekend without stopping. We cleaned the entire house, prepped and painted the baby's room, put the crib together, went to Home Depot, and cooked a large crockpot meal to freeze (jambalaya - yum). I also grocery shopped for the week and helped out at a youth orchestra rehearsal. By 10:00 last night I could. not. stop. I washed the bedding for the crib, ironed the crib skirt, put everything on the crib, assembled a lamp, etc. When I finally went to bed at 11:30, I was so sore I could hardly move. But it was a good kind of sore.
Anyway, I feel really good about having so much done. It sounds like many of you have been having similarly productive weekends. :)
Music down the pants - I admit, this cracked me up too :)
CityGirl & mimieliza - I hope your babies turn so you don't have to do the versions. Crossing my fingers for you! I really have no idea what position the baby is in, but I plan on asking at my appointment next week!
RubberSoul - I'm glad everything is set with the doula! When I read your first post I was thinking, maybe she was just away, so I was glad to read that was the case. I would have been worried too!
neenbean - Sorry you had to go through the scare. I hope your little one stays put until your c/s too!!
catgirl1007 - Glad everything is okay! PHew!
Thanks, everyone for the compliments on the nursery! I can't wait to get it more "complete" and do some decorating and finishing touches. We still have a lot of work until we get to that fun part, though!
catgirl- I am so happy to hear that the biophysical profile went so well! I hope these last few weeks go by smoothly for you.
breech- I have no idea what position this kid is in. He moves around so much I wouldn't be suprised if he was still changing position. I have a Dr's appt. today and will probably ask her what position he is in.
citygirl- music down your pants?? I have never heard of that one. Is the baby supposed to follow the sound of the music or something? I hope your efforts to turn him work and you don't have to attempt the version!
Morning ladies!
neenbean and catgirl Sorry to hear about the scares! Glad that everything seems to be ok for now - hope things stay nice and calm for both of you for a while.
baby detergent We got a big bottle of Dreft at one of our showers, so I've been using that. Not sure if I'll keep using that or something else once it runs out.
early baby I can't shake the feeling in the back of my mind that I'll end up having an October baby. It's probably just wishful thinking though. ;) As bizarre as it sounds, I am actually really looking forward to L&D. I mentally feel totally ready to have this baby - I can't wait!
nesting Yeah, it's starting to rear its ugly head! I've got a million little things around the house that I'm trying to accomplish in the next couple weeks. This weekend I'm also planning to make some freeze-able meals.
music down the pants Sorry, but I'm another one that got all cracked up when I read it! :D
Had my 35w appt yesterday which included my first internal as well as the GBS test. Baby girl is head down, but still pretty high up. No dilation or effacement to speak of yet, so all is quiet on my end! My next appt is 10/11.
DH and I had a crazy busy weekend. He worked on staining the last furniture pieces for the nursery. I finally cleaned out the closet in the nursery so I could move the baby stuff in. We also returned the last items to BRU and Target and used up our store credit at each place. We got the last few items that we needed (onesies, bottles, etc.). I think we are officially set! The only thing that remains to buy is a pump, but I'm trying to hold out for a good online deal on that. I also de-tagged all the 0-3 month clothes as well as the socks, onesies, receiving blankets, spare bedding, etc. That was a job! Now I have a mountain of laundry waiting for me. :)
Catgirl~ I’m so relieved to hear that everything looks fine!! Whoohoo for a perfect score on the biophysical!!! That is EXCELLENT news!! That’s pretty neat that they had you do some acupuncture treatment for the bp, most drs/hospitals just prescribe a person a pill. I like places that offer alternative forms of treatment.
~Still LOLing over here re: music down the pants.:cool:
Lilla~ Glad to hear that all checked out fine at your appt! Also glad to hear that you had a very productive weekend getting things together!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I go in for my NST in t-minus 4.5 hours. I’m the slightest bit nervous (I mean, what if they do find something wrong??) but DH helped calm me down last night by assuring me that everything is ok, this is just something they have to do, etc etc. Especially after reading Catgirl's post yesterday about her NST, it sort of made me realize that this isn't just some 'little appt' I have to keep, this could be serious stuff!! Anyhoo...:confused:

In honor of me being 7 actual months along today (eek!! 2 months till my EDD!!) here are some 7mo. belly shots.

(Don't mind the scratch marks on my upper back-I had my last good itching session Sat night until I got the prescription I needed to make it go away. Now I'm in healing mode! My belly is a LOT less red/irritated than it was just a few days ago)

Update: Okay, it's definitely the mucus plug i'm losing, not that i wasn't mostly certain yesterday after seeing the doctor. I lost a nice big glob in the toilet this morning. Is that tmi? Now i can honestly say that i'm in a mad panic to get everything done! Install carseats, clean out the pantry and kitchen cabinets, thoroughly clean the house, pack the hospital bag which means i have to buy stuff to put in it ;), buy breastfeeding stuff like breast pads, and a whole list of other things. Nesting must be formed out of panic! lol.

brb with SO's!

Holy Moly, i had no idea i was so far behind! MASSIVE POST AHEAD!!! I hope i didn't miss anyone!

Rancid- I hope you have a very uneventful NST! It’s wonderful that you have your dh to calm your fears. Most likely everything is fine so THINK POSITIVE!! Those are great belly shots and I’m so glad you have found a little relief with the itching and you’re finally healing. I hope it all goes away very very soon! Congrats on your 7 month mark. A week from today will mark my 8 month mark. EEK!

Lilla- I’m with you. I’ve been excited about L&D from the beginning and I absolutely CANNOT wait!! I had my first internal yesterday too and I have to admit it wasn’t all that pleasant and I was crampy the rest of the evening. I could do without another one of those for awhile. I hope we don’t get those weekly! You had a VERY productive weekend. I feel mostly ready too but I have a few returns to make and some things I’d like to get done before the baby arrives but don’t have to be done. You sound very calm and ready to go. You never know, you might end up with an October baby!

Mimieliza- How cute that you pat your little girl on the head. I hope she flips for ya though. I know I’ll be disappointed if I need a c-section. I have no idea which way my boy is laying. You had an incredible weekend of getting things done! I bet you were sore by the time you went to bed. I’m sore and sleepy all the time even when I DON’T do anything! I can’t believe I heard the word “dilated” either. I totally don’t want the first baby so someone else better start having something happen ;)

Citygirl- That’s great about your partial placenta previa has moved out of the way. Fingers crossed that it stays away from the cervix! Lucky you only having one more week of work. I wish I could say the same thing but alas I’m here to stay until this baby arrives. I need to get a ton of work done so it’s not sitting here for anyone else to do while I’m gone.

Catgirl- I am so incredibly happy that everything turned out fine. Your first post was scary and I was worrying about you all afternoon! I hope you got some rest last night. Nevermind being 7-8 months pregnant the worry alone is enough to wear a person out. That’s great news about your BP. I’ve heard acupuncture is great for lots of things and I even considered trying it while pg but never got around to it. Do you know how much it typically cost?

Katnbug- Tell me about it. I was pretty shocked when I noticed it. I’m sorry you feel kind of left out of the ‘normal’ pregnancy things. I know I’d be disappointed too. You have a beautiful son and a daughter on the way though. When it’s all said and done, how they got here is so unimportant. I’d venture to guess that some women would say you are lucky! Lol. Try not to freak about pre e too much. I don’t want to be first either, lol. Someone else can have that honor.
I remember your story about Hurricane Robbie. What a little pest! It’s very sad that your son had the reaction that he did. He obviously remembers the last encounter with the boy very vividly. Poor kid.

RubberSoul- So glad you finally heard back from the doula. I bet it feels good to know that’s taken care of now. I hear ya about thinking L&D is a way off. I keep having to remind myself it’s just ONE MONTH! Sometimes I wonder what I’ve been doing the last 8 months that I’m not completely ready to go! These babies are going to be here before we know it! I can’t help you with knowing whether or not you’re actually in labor. People keep talking about BH contrax and I have no idea if I’ve had one or not because I’ve heard that they can be completely painless. Sometimes it feels like my abdomen tightens but maybe that’s just a butt sticking out! Lol.

Neenbean- Yikes! What a scare you had! I called my sister once about swelling and she freaked out and told me to call the doctor too. I stopped asking her about stuff ;) That’s great that your friend was able to pick up dd and that she had a great time. It’s good that you had a plan in place! I’m glad that you are feeling better now and that the infection seems to be running its course. I’m sorry that the kicks are still so torturous but you said it best about keeping that little critter in there for another week at least! Here’s hopin’ the baby stays put for your c-section! No matter when the baby arrives I hope he or she is healthy!

Mayham- I think I posted this in your journal but I wanted to say it again. I LOVE the paint color you chose for the babies room. It’s perfect and looks absolutely gorgeous with the furniture and bedding! You did a great job. You’ll have things done in no time! I’m sorry you are dealing with Carpal Tunnel, that can’t be fun. I think it’s funny that you skipped yoga for a Red Sox game and had ice cream and a pretzel for dinner! I spent Sunday at the Cardinals game and had funnel cake! Mmmm. Lol. Yoga vs. baseball, ice cream, and a pretzel. It’s a no brainer! In your journal you were talking about the crib bumper and I don’t know if I ever responded. I honestly don’t know if my bumper fits the crib or not because I didn’t even put it on. I am going to leave it off until after the SIDS stage is mostly over and then put it on. Maybe at that time if it doesn’t fit I’ll knock it down a level. You could always wait until you bring the baby home and see if the bending is too much otherwise just leave it off until it’s time to lower the mattress. I thought our crib was going to look stupid without the bumper but it doesn’t.

Brio- Take back what you said about the mucus plug!! Lol. Just kidding. It seems things are starting to happen I just hope they don’t happen too quickly! I’m all for an early delivery but I’m with you on it not being too early. I don’t want to deal with the issues you talked about either. I’d take November 1st as a delivery date too… though it’s only 6 days before my due date. I’m sorry but I laughed out loud at what your dad said. If my dad were alive it totally sounds like something he would’ve said. I can’t see your picture but I’m sure you don’t look like whale!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! Enjoy your cake. Mmm… now I want cake. Ooh, or a donut! Now see what you’ve done?!? ;)

Roberta- HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!

Arcane- Hope you had a good tour at the hospital. It sounds like you and your ob have worked out a plan that works best for you and sometimes that’s what’s important. I think a few days before your due date for an induction is just fine especially if it will save you and the baby from distress! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Holy cow there are a lot of birthdays this week!

Kyrsten- Funny that your dh is wishful thinking for an early delivery in the next 2 weeks. My dh asked me to wait until the baseball playoffs are over or at least until the Cardinals get their butt kicked out of the playoffs! He was joking of course but I think my dh needs a little more time to prepare for the baby. In his mind we still have 5 weeks and I don’t think he can cram 5 weeks of prep into only 2. I guess we’ll see what happens. I’m not sure how much of it we can actually control.

Nic- Seriously, it regenerates? That’s crazy. I hadn’t heard that before but if that means this baby will stay put for awhile then I’m all for it! I hope you get your early baby. I’m to the point where I catch myself thinking and saying ‘anytime now is fine’! I’m glad I’m not the only one dilating too! 1 cm, wow! You have me beat since I’m sitting at a fingertip. It’s great that everything looks good. I’m excited that things are starting to happen too. Can’t wait to have our babies here!

Franni- I read the ‘when did you lose your mucus plug and when did you deliver thread’ (not the exact title) but it ranged from hours to over 4 weeks so it likely doesn’t mean anything at this point.

Lilo- Great news about the nursery! I love those IKEA drawer organizers but I didn’t end up with a place to use them! I can’t wait to see your room once you have it completed! It sounds like it’s really starting to come together now. Which pack n play did you get? We received a graco pack n play at our shower and WE LOVE IT! We set it up in the basement to use as a changing table when we are down there. Our family room is in the basement so we spend most of our time down there. It seems to always take dh’s longer to realize exactly how much time is left… that being said, YAY for the contractor!! Now you can relax about everything.

Roberta- All is well. Friday the 13th wouldn’t be so bad I guess… it’s just another day, right? Still people act so weird because of the stigma of the day. I’d rather not have to deal with other peoples superstitious stupidity :) superstitious suptidity is fun to say! Lol. That sucks about the trip to the Dom. Rep. But… I’m with you, a baby is WAY better!

I also forgot to ask in my previous post - Has anyone seen or heard from mermccau (meredith) lately?
Nope, I hope she’s alright!

Breech: I have no idea if my boy is breech or not and I completely forgot to ask at my appointment yesterday. I have something hard that moves from the left side of the upper uterus to the right side and I usually get a pushing out feeling where ever it’s at and I get a kick on the opposite side. I’m hoping it’s a butt that is rearing out and a foot kicking around which would mean he’s head down. I had an internal yesterday so I’d think if he was breech they would’ve said something. I’m going to ask at my appointment next Wed.

Detergent: Where do you buy Charlies Soap? Is it fragrance free? We bought dreft but I did notice the smell which kind of makes ME want to sneeze. I was wondering about detergent because when dh was a baby the only detergent his parents could use was ERA. It’s all he uses to this day and we use Downy sensitive free and clear fabric softener for our clothes because I’m allergic to most fragrances. This kid doesn’t stand much of a chance when it comes to laundry detergent. I guess I’ll stick with the dreft until it’s gone or we find out we can’t use it and go from there.

Baby coming early- I’m definitely not against having an October baby but I’d prefer to wait at least 2 more weeks so I am at 37 weeks. The risks go so much farther down after 37 weeks. Sometimes these babies have minds of their own so we’ll see what happens. I don’t want to be first though! Lol.

Footed PJ’s- A butt load! We also have about 6-8 sleep gowns with just the elastic around the bottom and 1 sleep blanket. I have no idea what we’ll use but I think little babies in those terry cloth sleepers are the cutest!

Push Present- I honestly never thought about this. I don’t expect anything from dh nor do I plan to ask for anything. I do have certain expectations of him during L&D though. I think I’m going to really need him so I’d rather he not wonder off for too long but I’m not going to chain him to the bed either. So much of L&D is unknown to me since I’ve never done it but I do hope he plans to stay by my side and I think he does. Our new baby and our time together is all the gift I need. How cliché is that? ;)

Thanks so much for the support, ladies! I was really scared yesterday afternoon. I mean, I'm glad I'm having the NSTs with the complications I've had, but now I'm going to be nervous when I have my next one. They want me to come back on Thurs. for another NST just to make sure things are still fine.

Contrax & storms ~ We had awful storms go through last night and I was contracting like crazy! I was sure I was going to go into full blown labor. I just drank a bunch of water and went to sleep. I've heard that the drop in barometric pressure when it storms can cause contrax. We had big hail too and the hood of my car is all dented - not happy about that at all, esp since it should've been in the garage but it was out b/c DH has a project going on in there.

Breech ~ Devin was breach until a couple of weeks ago. Have you considered trying acupuncture to get him to flip around? My acupuncturist was going to do that for me if Devin didn't flip.

Lilla ~ Yeah, isn't detagging stuff a pain? You never realize it until you actually sit down to do it. And the laundry... oy!!

Rancid ~ Great belly shots! You look really good. I know, I always treated NSTs as a ho-hum-gotta-do-this type thing. Actually, I had them weekly with DD too b/c of complications and never had any scares. So they usually are pretty benign. Good news is if there is anything wrong, they catch it immediately.

ellidew ~ Wow!! That plug just does not want to stay in, does it? Did your doc happen to mention if it grows back/replenishes? I lost mine when I was in labor with DD and this time have just had discharge but no plug yet.

Acupuncture ~ I used acu to get PG this time around. I was still BFing DD and even though I had AF back, I was O'ing really late in my cycle (too late for it to result in a pregnancy). So had a few acu treatments, O'd on CD14, and got PG! I also recd acu treatment for m/s (didn't work for that unfortunately). It is working for the BP though, which is good. I think it costs $70-$75/treatment. I don't like taking meds unless absolutely necessary, so it's a good alternative for me, plus I didn't have to stop BFing DD to get PG.

October bdays ~ Happy bday to all the October mommies!! My bday is 10/7 and DD's is 10/8 (yep, I was in labor with her on my 35th bday!). Also, our anniversary is in October. Busy month for everyone!

I know I missed some SO's, but DD is napping now so I'm going to take advantage of this time to straighten up the house a bit. We're having a playdate group bday party for her tomorrow. Can't believe she's almost 2! :(

Thank you all so very much for the happy thoughts!!! I have not been on-line much lately and this thread is slightly overwhelming! So many of us have so much to say, that it is hard to do individual SOs. :o I apologize. Glad to hear those that were having problems are still pregnant and all seems to be well.

My cramps returned today and I am patiently waiting to see if they continue for more than a couple hours, despite being really good about taking my antibiotics. DH's work is insane right now as his boss was relieved on Monday and everyone is still running around like chickens without heads. He can't come with me or come home to watch DD. I may be calling my OB this afternoon... I hope it is just indigestion or something.

Esq.

Sorry for no SO's... hope everyone who has had a recent scare is doing well.

I went in for my regular appt today. Last week I was sent to the hospital to be tested for pre-e. The tests turned out fine, but based on my bp readings, weight gain, and elevated heart rate, they told me it is only a matter of time before it is pre-e. She said that just by looking at my hands she cold tell I was carrying at least 20 extra lbs of water.

I have to go in twice a week now. She told me to expect that the next time I come in and have high blood pressure or protein in my urine, they will tell me that the baby has to be born that day. She also said that I am not dilated at all, so induction would not be fun.

The scary part is that they told me that they would be happy if I make it to 37.5 weeks. I am 36 weeks on Thursday. The doctor said that she has no problems or worries delivering the baby at 36 weeks, but would prefer that I make it to 37.5 if at all possible. 36 weeks is Thursday. That means next week I could possibly have this baby. I just can't comprehend that.

Today my bp was 110/72, but last Friday it was 138/90. My heart rate has been fluctuating between 114 and 117. I guess it is supposed to be around 100 for a pregnant woman, so they are sending me to the cardiologist.

I was thankfully not put on bedrest, but I was told to just rest and not do much of anything. That makes it hard to finish up all the things I need to finish, especially considering they expect the baby to be here within the next 2 weeks.

On the bright side, I guess DH is going to get his wish. :)

ACK! Kyrsten, your post makes me nervous... in a good way! NEXT WEEK! You could be a mom by next week! How exciting! Not exciting that you have pre-e or will most likely have it but how very exciting that you could be a mom so soon. Sorry you are having to deal with all the problems though. Tell that baby to stay put until 37.5 weeks... that's what i keep telling mine! I know it makes finishing things very difficult but that's why you have dh. It's nice to be waited on. My dh has never before offered to make dinner to i am loving the nights when he does! We need to take it as easy as we can because even though we wont have all the pg problems after these babies come we're going to have squriming, crying, pooping, babies instead. I'm not sure there's a lesser evil when it comes to the two! lol. Good luck and take care of yourself!

neenbean- I hope you feel better. Definitely call the doctor especially if it will make you feel better. I'm sorry your dh can't be much help right now, is there anyone else you can call or is there a YMCA or something similar that offers parents days out where you could drop of DD if you need to get some rest? Take care of yourself and keep us posted!

Catgirl- I’m so glad the scare is over. Make sure you update on Thursday so we know all is well. I have never heard that about contractions and storms. We haven’t had any storms lately nor do I think I’ve had any contractions but I’ve had some dooseys when it comes to baby kicks and I’m not digging the new found cramping ligaments and pressure on the cervix as of late. I don’t think what I’ve been feeling are contrax. If they are I haven’t noticed a pattern or anything. That absolutely SUCKS about your car! I wouldn’t be happy either. Happy Birthday to you and your DD!

nic

Kyrsten- wow, I think you're going to be the 1st November Mom to have her baby, how exciting. I'm sure dealing with the possibility of pre-e sucks but the end is in sight. Don't worry about not having everyting finished, I'm sure you're got the most important things done. Get your bags packed and your car seat installed and hopefully someone else can take care of the other stuff if you have the baby sooner than you think.

ETA-

ellidew- I think that's what I read but don't hold me to it.

Great belly shots Rancid!! When you post that you have 2 months left I have to look at your signature every time! I forget that you are due the beginning of Dec!!!

catgirl- Nice storms, eh?? DS and I were home alone and the sound of the hail on the roof was freaking me out! I was also sure that my car would have dings, but surprisingly there were none! I'm glad I didn't experience any contrax with the storm... I hadn't heard they go together!

kyrsten- It sounds scary, but it's good that your dr. is ready to deliver you if your bp goes up & you show protein. I went right from my dr. appt to L&D during my last pregnancy & I would have been more prepared if I had advanced notice!! 36 weeks is a bit early, but many babies are born at that point without having to spend a day in the NICU. :) Crossing crossables that you hang on a few more weeks though!!

neenbean- I hope you feel better. The back & forth can't be comforting I'm sure.
********************

I'm feeling much better today than I have in the past few... My bp is fairly normal. A little lower than it was at the dr. on Saturday... but I don't think my home bp machine is as accurate. Still - I rested yesterday and I am not swollen at all today. :) Hopefully a good sign.

I just have to complain for minute.

I went to the Dr. for my 34w appt. and saw the same Dr. I saw last time. This is only the second time I have seen her, but I have decided I am NOT a fan. First I asked her if she could tell what position baby is in she seemed annoyed that I asked and didn't even bother to try and feel where he was. She just said, oh I think he is head down. Then, when I asked about waiting for the cord to stop pulsating to clamp and cut it - I could tell that she was doing everything possible not to roll her eyes. She was like "well, the Dr. just has to stand around holding the baby" like it was a huge inconvienence to wait that extra minute or two. I told her that I had read that it was better for the baby to get all the oxygen rich blood prior to cutting the cord. She was quick to reply that there was NO medical evidence to support that. Funny - the Dr. that wrote The Ultimate Guide to Breastfeeding would disagree.

I just hope that she is not the one on call when I go into labor. Her bedside manner sucks and she obviously could care less what I want.

Okay, rant over.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
kyrsten- I hope the pre-e stays away long enough for baby to bake a while longer!
neenbean ~ I hope your cramps went away this afternoon. Please let us know. I know how hard it is to try to get to the doctor's office when you have a little one at home. Makes being PG again that much harder. I hope you're feeling better!
Kyrsten ~ I'm glad your BP was down and that your doctor's office is taking you seriously. I'm sorry that pre-e seems to be inevitable, but it's good that you're being monitored frequently. Sending you "stay in baby" vibes to at least 37.5 weeks!!
ellidew ~ Thanks! Oh yeah, that pressure on the cervix is not fun!! We're supposed to get more storms tonight so DH said that he'd clean out my side of the garage and pull my car in. Ummm... it doesn't matter anymore! :rolleyes: I stopped counting when I got to 10 dings on my hood. :mad:
Kat ~ I'm glad you're feeling better today! Yeah, that hail was something, wasn't it? We just got a brand new roof and siding a few months ago. I'm dreading even looking at it closely to see if we have any damage. I couldn't believe how loud that hail got. I'm glad your car wasn't damaged!
RubberSoul ~ I would have been so PO'd at that doc!! Ummm, yeah, it is good for the cord to stop pulsating. Hello!! I can't stand when docs are clueless about stuff like that. When I asked one of my OB's about it he said it'd be no problem and it only took a couple of minutes to stop. What's 2 minutes?! Hopefully you won't have to deal with her when you deliver. How many other docs are in the practice?
A little O/T... DD had her first cupcake today! She "helped" me make them for her party and she ate one and said it was "yummy". She wasn't eating solids at her 1st bday party so she didn't have anything then, plus she's had a lot of food allergies. I'm glad she'll be able to get all messy with a cupcake tomorrow. :)
Early Delivery - Wow! I can't believe how many of you are close to delivering already. I haven't really even given myself a chance to consider this possibility! Best wishes to all of you.
Detergent - My best friend works for a detergent brand and knows more than anyone should ever know on this topic. She told me that Dreft isn't necessarily the best option because it's expensive and it has a fragrance to it. She recommended All Free & Clear. It was developed by a mom who's baby had sensitive skin and has no odors or harsh chemicals. So, I'm going to give that a try.
My next Dr. Appt is Thursday (10/5). I'm nervous because I'm pretty sure I've gained some weight over the past 2 weeks and she told me I shouldn't. But, I had my shower and my birthday (and all the yummy foods that go along with them) to derail me - what's a girl to do?
So I'm back, fresh from my non-stress test appointment at the hospital. We got checked in at Labor & Delivery and went upstairs to the Fetal Diagnostics office. Met with a very accomodating, nice technician who got me all set up in a comfy reclining chair in a room overlooking the beach and harbour.
Got all hooked up to the microphone thingies, one that monitored the baby's heartbeat and the other that monitored uterine contractions. She took my blood pressure (122/60 thank you very much) and asked why my dr had sent me there. I told her it was because she felt I had high bp at my ob appts so she wanted to make sure I wasn't destined for pre-e or something similar.
She asked if I'd had the PIH blood testing done (not sure what PIH means) and I said I had a blood draw last Friday for a whole bunch of tests, but hadn't heard back about the results yet. Got to relax in the comfy chair for a good half hour or so, watching the baby kick up a storm and make the microphones go all wacko, on occasion even messing up the transmission. His heartbeat looked fine, it was kinda neat to watch it go up when he moved and slow down when he stopped.
Afterwards, she took me across the hall to get an ultrasound to check on the fluid surrounding the baby, which also looks good. We got to see a little hand for all of 2 seconds, as well as watch the heart beating all a-flutter.
And that was it. I go back in on Friday for more. It was more relaxing than anything, especially since now it looks like there really isn't anything to worry about. What a relief!! And what a nice hospital too, wow!!
Here was my view while relaxing in the comfy chair:
SO's....
Ellidew~ How interesting and exciting (I guess in a gross sort of way, LOL) to be in the process of losing your mucus plug! Time to get everything situated for Miles, just in case he decides to show up in the next few weeks!! Thanks for the positive thoughts, I think my NST went over very well today!
Catgirl~ Thanks for the comps re: my belly shots. The NST was actually kind of fun! I’m hoping the next one is as uneventful and relaxing as today’s was.
October Bdays~ Happy Birthday to all the soon-to-be-mommies who are celebrating bdays this month!!:)
Neenbean~ I’m keeping my fingers crossed that your cramping is just indigestion! Any word from the ob yet?:confused:
Krysten~ I’m so sorry to hear about your scare and the eminent pre-e. That’s very good that your doctor is so on top of monitoring your bp and proteins though. Take it easy, and I’m hoping that your little girl stays put for another couple weeks at least.:)
Katnbug~ Thanks for the comps on the belly shots. Yeah, 2 more months for me, assuming this little guy doesn’t make an early appearance sometime in late Nov, which was my original due date. I’m glad to hear that you’ve been feeling better as of late. Yay for lower bp and no swelling!:D
Rubbersoul~ Wow, that dr you saw does not sound like much of a people person! I hope for your sake that she’s not the one on duty when you’re admitted into the hospital for delivery!:eek:
Catgirl~ Yay for DD’s first cupcake!!
Rancid ~ Wow! That sounds like an awesome NST experience and what a beautiful view!! All of mine are done in the doctor's office with me lying sideways on an examining table and my only view is of closed blinds. :p I always bring a book though and have gotten to catch up on reading.
I know, I felt lucky! Everyone there was so nice too. I brought a book and a magazine and only ended up reading a few pages of my mag while waiting to be checked in. I was planning on even possibly taking a nap, but the view was too enticing and it was so funny watching the baby kick around the monitors!:D
rancid- Nice view from your NST chair!! Like catgirl, we just get ours at the dr. office in a small room w/the blinds closed! Glad to hear your experience was a positive one! We have our first NST on Saturday.
catgirl- Make sure DD's cupcake is loaded with frosting so she can get really messy for pictures!!!! ;)
**************************
Nothing new here except a sick toddler. :( And his first day at Wee School is tomorrow. Wouldn't you figure. He was up at 4am coughing up a storm. I finally got him and myself out of bed at 5am. I'm tired.
Katnbug- I hope your ds feels better soon and gets to go to school tomorrow! I hope you both get a nap in today!!
Rancid- Great view for the NST. I had mine done at the hospital too but I didn’t have such a great view and we were under a severe weather warning so they had to close the blinds. I did have a television and a magazine though but like you I found myself sitting there waiting for kicks and listening to the monitors. Mine was done in an actual l&d room where we’ll have Miles! It was kind of eerie since, other than painful contractions, I’ll experience the same thing when the time comes. Definitely time to get things situated!
Ppwgal- Thanks for the info on the All Free & Clear. I think that’s what I’ll switch to because I don’t like the smell of dreft. Try not to worry too much about the weight gain over the last 2 weeks… this late in pregnancy you are GOING to gain even if it’s just water weight. Don’t stress about it or let your doctor get you down. I hope you had a good birthday!! And a wonderful shower! Good luck at your doctors appt tomorrow.
Catgirl- aw, how cute… dd’s first cupcake! I bet that was a lot of fun. I look forward to things like that! I hope she has a good birthday party today! That’s funny that dh was going to get your car pulled into the garage… as if more hail dings would really make that much of a difference. At least he offered! Lol.
Rubbersoul- What a terrible experience! I’d be fuming. If it comes between using that doctor for the delivery or using the on call doc… I’d go with the on call doc and make your specific requests right there on the spot! I absolutely HATE being rushed out of a doctors appt or feeling like I didn’t get the best care possible. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that you don’t have to deal with that woman again!
------------------------------------
For a change i don't have anything to update! :D It's one of those mornings where the baby isn't moving a whole lot so i'm trying not to worry to keep my blood pressure down. I'd be perfectly happy to be hooked up to monitors from now until the baby is born! lol. I'm sure he's fine... just having a slow morning.
Early October mama/hubby birthdays - "A recent survey suggests that more people are born on October 5 in the United States than any other day. October 5 holds a not-so-surprising significance, as conception would have fallen on New Year's Eve." ;) Happy birthday to everyone celebrating this month!
Detergent - my son still has a small problem with excema, so I wash his clothes in baby detergent. I did use Dreft with no problem but for some reason, he seemed to react to the All Free & Clear. Weird! I use Method's baby detergent now and have been happy with it. I buy it at Target - it's triple concentrated, not tested on animals, takes the environment into consideration, etc.
"Tough on stains. Gentle on baby. method baby detergent is specially formulated for your little bundle of joy - it rinses clean and contains no harsh chemicals or dyes that can irritate your baby's tender skin. Active enzymes penetrate tough stains to deliver an uncompromising clean."
Hospital tour - it was pretty good. The L&D rooms are gorgeous - the post partum rooms, not so much! It was like going from a Hilton to a Motel 6! But I don't care as I want to spend as little time in the hospital as possible. I did not find it relaxing at all when I was there (different hospital in FL) with Andrew, so I know I'll be even more anxious to get home this time.
Ppwgal~ Thanks for the info regarding All Free & Clear. That’s the detergent hubby and I have been using for ourselves for the last few years, thanks to our sensitive skin. I feel good that I can continue using it for washing the baby’s things without having to switch to a specially formulated baby detergent.:)
Katnbug~ Thanks! The whole wing of the hospital is new (just built last year?), and it’s all the women’s center. The L&D floor was just below the one I was on at Fetal Diagnostics. We were chatting with the lady at the check-in desk at L&D, asking her if that’s where we’d go if/when I’m in labor. It was pretty surreal, knowing that we would be back there in ~2 months to have a baby. Sorry to hear that your little guy is sick!:(
Ellidew~ It was eerie for both DH and I yesterday at the hospital, as this was the first time either of us had been there and we knew that the next time we came back to the L&D floor, it would actually be for L&D!! He kept saying, “So would I pull the car up to the front here? Do you think they’ll come out with a wheelchair for you?” etc. Keep that blood pressure down, I’m sure Miles will get moving sometime this morning. Speaking of bp, it’s time for me to check mine…:cool:
~~~~~~~

Nothing much to report on here except I need to comment that yesterday our little guy had so much freaking energy, I've NEVER felt him move around as much as he did all day yesterday. I'm talking all day long, and it was so funny during the NST when he was just kicking away at the monitors. I swear the tech had to reset everything 4 or 5 times during the 30 min. we were there b/c the transmission kept getting screwy as a result, and finally she just had me hold the hb monitor in place b/c he wouldn't sit still for more than 5 seconds. It was really comical, DH and I were just sitting there laughing the whole time. She was trying to do the u/s and he was kicking at the little thing there too. And on into the afternoon, evening and night. And he's still kicking away as I type this. What a little bundle of energy!! We may have our work cut out for us! :p

I also have somewhat of a head cold. No biggie. Woke up at 4am yesterday with a slight sore, scratchy throat and congested head. Have been taking Tylenol Cold (on my dr's "okayed" OTC list) and Ricola. It's not too bad, just feel a bit congested w/a runny nose. It's honestly nothing compared to the skin issues of the last few months.

We start our childbirth classes tonight, I can't wait!! :D

Early October mama/hubby birthdays - "A recent survey suggests that more people are born on October 5 in the United States than any other day. October 5 holds a not-so-surprising significance, as conception would have fallen on New Year's Eve."
Very funny, since my birthday is Oct 5th. However I was due on Sept. 19th (my Dad's b-day) and decided I was arriving later. Guess I was more of a Christmas time conception.

Krysten Hope you are doing well and the BP is staying down. Try not to worry too much about getting stuff done before baby girl arrives. It is more important that both of you are healthy than if the shelves are hung in the nursery (or whatever needs to be done). Take care of yourself! Your baby girl may be here soon!

ppwgirl Don't worry too much about the weight gain. Not much you can do about it now. My weight keeps flucuating due to water weight.

catgirl Happy Birthday to you and DD! Enjoy her party!

Rubbersoul What a rude doctor! I hope that he/she isn't on call when you deliver. Have you written some kind of birth plan? Not that it is a guarantee, but at least things are in writing.

Continuing to swell over here. Most of my shoes don't fit and those that do are actually tight. My hands hurt too. I am going to go find one of those BP machines at a pharmacy today to check my BP. If it is high then I guess I am calling the doc. On the postive side, I slept like a log last night.

Eczema and detergent With DD , there's no difference with any brand of detergent we use. She gets them when she sweats. Like DH, she is allergic to her own sweat. So we always have to toe the fine line between keeping her nice and warm vs. too hot that she sweats and breaks out in eczema.

Hospital Tour My hospital is really depressing. L&D rooms aren't so bad but the nurse told me that in a busy evening, they might double-up (ie wheel an extra bed into the room for a second person)/ I think that is horrible. I have a very high pain threshold and am able to regain composure, but having someone else in the room screaming her brains out would really affect me and my equanimity. The post partum rooms are small and dingy. It has it's own bathroom, but shower facilities are communal. Overall the whole experience was just depressing. But what can I do? I think I am too far into the process to change now. I would have to transfer to a new doctor to get into a new hospital. Would a new doctor take me now at 33 weeks?

Sorry to be so upset, but my first delivery was done in such a great hospital. My doctor was great. Delivery room was nice. Post partum room was spacious and had a pretty water view. Oh...in the new hospital, there is only ONE private room. So even if I wanted to splurge for the private room, there will be a quite a fight to get into it. In the new hospital, I don't know if there will even be room for DH to sleep there? Not that there was a lot of room in the other hospital, but at least, I had a sense of privacy.

Good news I passed the 3 hour GTT. My doctor was scratching her head though at the results. She said that all my levels were pretty low to normal. Whereas on the 1 hour GTT, my level was 190 (which I think is pretty off-the-charts). Hope that was a fluke, but I am watching my sugars anyway. Well, watching my carbs actually. Cutting out sugar is pretty easy. I have gotten used to drinking and eating sugar free, but the white carbs will be the death of me although I have made the switch to whole wheat bread.

Weight gain I am currently up 15 lbs from my pre-pregnancy. Not bad overall but I was more overweight pre-preg than I care to admit.

Franni~ Sorry to hear about your depressing experience at the hospital...hopefully they won't be too busy at the time you go into L&D so they won't have to 'double up' on you. Congrats on passing the 3-hr GTT! I'm a white carbs fiend too, but have been doing really well about making the switch to whole wheat/whole grains just for purely nutritional reasons (I figure it's better for me and the baby). Ie: Whole wheat Eggos or whole wheat Kashi frozen waffles in place of buttermilk Eggos, whole wheat pasta in place of white pasta (Healthy Harvest is my new fave pasta!), and Wonder "White Bread Fans" 100% Whole Grain bread instead of their regular white bread (no diff. in taste whatsoever!! I have a pb&j on the Wonder whole grain bread several times a week). There are yummy alternatives, and believe you me, I still reach for the good old stuff on occasion, but for the most part I try to be good about my eating habits.:)

Kat ~ I'm sorry DS is sick. :( It's so hard when they're sick, and now the timing with Wee School tomorrow isn't good at all. I did load her cupcake up with frosting, but you know her... the minute she got a little smudge on her finger she was asking for a napkin. :p :)

acrane ~ Eczema is no fun! DD had it really bad her first year. I'm sorry your DS is still dealing with it. It's good that you found a detergent that works.

Rancid ~ Doesn't it figure he'd be active during an NST? I wonder if they can sense the monitors and want to kick b/c they know something is there... ?? Have fun at class tonight!! I hope you feel better soon, too.

roberta ~ I hope your swelling turns out to be typical pregnancy swelling and nothing more serious. I got so swollen with DD and this time around I'm not at all. Funny how each pregnancy can be different. Keep us updated - sending good thoughts your way.

Franni ~ That totally sucks about the L&D rooms and possibly having to share!! I can't even imagine that. Hopefully that won't be the case. I don't blame you for being upset at even the thought of it though. Congrats on passing the 3 hour GTT!!! Yay! :)

Well, DD had an awful night last night. For about the last week it's taken me 1.5-2 hours to get her to sleep, and then she wakes up either sleep talking, screaming or tossing & turning about 5 times/night. Last night was one of those nights. Then this morning before her party she cried whenever we tried to do anything... change her diaper, change her clothes, not let her in the crawl space closet... UGH!!!! My moods are not great lately and I'm finding myself with a very short temper with this "2's" behavior. Fortunately the party went well and she's asleep right now and hopefully will be for a couple of hours.

I don't have much time, but I wanted to post about my OB appt this morning.

I won't have an internal check until my next appt in a week and a half. Baby is still head up, and we discussed the external version. She said that they have a surgical team standing by, and I was under the impression that babies frequently had to be delivered by emergency c-section after attempting a version. She reassured me that she's never needed to do that, that although it is a risk, it is not that common. The surgical team is just a precaution. We also talked about when to do the version - I was worried about anything that might bring the baby too early. They can do it as early as 36 weeks, or as late as 38. We'd probably go for somewhere around 37 weeks. But again, the version is not nearly as likely to lead to immediate delivery as I thought - odds are very good that I'll stay pregnant for several more weeks after the version. She also said that she would like me to have an epidural during the version - for pain relief, but also because it makes the procedure easier because the muscles are relaxed. She said the version has a 50-60% success rate, on the lower side of that range for first-time moms.

So this was all very reassuring information, and I'll probably go ahead with the version. My next appt is a week from Monday, and we'll schedule it then (unless she turns on her own, of course).

Arcane- I guess it’s trial and error with some babies. My dh can only use ERA and that’s all he’s been able to use since he was little. I’d imagine I’m going to have to try out a few once the baby arrives. I’m glad your hospital tour went so well. I think it will help to be in a comfortable environment.

Rancid- Exactly! Lol. You get to do the same thing again when it’s time… it was almost like a dry run through. I had to check in at the L&D desk too and I had an L&D nurse monitor the NST. My experience is exactly how it will be if I go into labor and have to go check in. I guess it would only be different if I was having a scheduled c section. Somedays our kiddo has more energy than I can imagine and then others he’s just worn out. I hate worn out days because the movements are so soft and less frequent. Any movement is movement though so at least we know our babies are alright. What a funny story about the monitors during the NST. I had my NST because Miles wasn’t moving… I swear it took a gallon of apple juice to wake this kid up! I hope you feel better. Dh is just getting over a small cold or allergies too. I hope it’s just allergies because I don’t want a cold!

Roberta- I hope you are okay. I swell almost daily and today is exceptionally bad. I talked to my doctor about it once and they said that I only need to worry if I notice additional swelling I my hands and/or face. I haven’t had any swelling anywhere else except for a little in my hands that comes and goes and nothing noticeable by the naked eye I can just feel my rings tighter on some days so I’ve never brought it up. Hopefully it’s just water retention in your legs and feet. Be sure to update so we know you are alright though.

Franni- Your poor dd and dh with their eczema. I get patches here and there and it’s annoying. I’ve had it on both wrists during my ENTIRE pregnancy. At the beginning I had it all over the place but it mostly cleared up except those 2 spots. I’m sorry your hospital is so depressing. If you think you are going to be that miserable then I would change doctors and/or hospitals. If you go to another hospital can’t the on call ob deliver? I can’t imagine having to worry about privacy while at the hospital so if it’s really a worry for you then you should make some changes. Doctors will take you on at 33 weeks… lie if you have to and say you just moved there! :) Congrats on passing the 3 hour GTT! What a relief, huh? Great pg weight gain too. I wont even admit my weight gain in my mind much less on cc! That was a really interesting article you posted but I have to admit I kind of paraphrased some of it because it was so in depth. OB has come a long way!! Thank goodness for all of us.

Catgirl- Your poor DD. I’m so glad her birthday party went well and that she had a good time! Hopefully you got a little relief during her nap and when she woke up she was feeling a little better. I hope tonight is a lot better for both of you.

I went and checked my BP yesterday, 130/80, which is high for me as my BP is usually low. So I called the MW office and the advice nurse was a little less than helpful, but she scheduled me for an apointment today. I went to my prenatal yoga class last night, talked to my instructor and we did several exerrcises to help move the fluid out of the joints. I woke up this morning and I can see my ankles again! The sweling has gone down, although my hands and wrists still hurt some. I am so happy! I cancelled my appointment and I am going to go enjoy my birthday.

Question for those who have had swelling...

How long did it take to go down?? I would've thought that sitting with my feet propped for 4 hours and then a night of sleep would've helped but it definitely hasn't. For the first time in any of my pg'cies, I had to take my rings off and putting shoes on is another story in itself. :rolleyes:

roberta
10-05-2006, 06:12 AM
kadee I have had swelling for months. I haven't worn my rings since July and my feet have been too swollen for most of my shoes for 4-5 weeks. Sleep and putting my feet up were not making much of a difference. My yoga instructor had me lots of ankle and wrist rotations. Try to do a few sets through out the day. She also recommended sitting in a pool or bath because the water pressure is greater than air pressure and will help push the swelling down. Drink lots of water to help everything flush out of your system. I hope your swelling gets better, I know how much it sucks!

Esq.
10-05-2006, 06:31 AM
Kadee- my swelling doesn't really go away either, just like Roberta's. I find that it will reduce a little in my feet overnight sometimes, and not others. I wake up with my hands more swollen as opposed to less. I hold my hands up and gently shake them to get some of the swelling to go down. It actually works for some strange reason.

nic
10-05-2006, 06:35 AM
Roberta- Happy Birthday!

Kadee- My swelling goes down somewhat after putting my feet up/ resting but I'm still pretty swollen. My hands, face and feet look really strange.

We went on our hospital tour last night which was intertesting. i was having mild cramps throughout most it it but at least i was inthe perfect place if something more would have happened. The L & D rooms have bathrooms but no showers. You have to walk down the hall if you want to shower during labor. I thought that was a little weird. The postpastum rooms are nice and private so I'm happy about that.

ellidew
10-05-2006, 06:38 AM
Kadee- Exactly what the others have said. Some nights i can sit on the couch for a few hours and the swelling will go down other nights i sit on the couch and then sleep and the next morning they are less swollen but still VERY swollen. Today for example... ugh. Shoes have been a problem for me for a few months too. So far no major swelling in my hands or fingers though.

Sorry I haven't posted in a bit. I have been reading along- and have been keeping ya'll in my prayers (Kyrsten- I really don't want you to have to deal with pre-e.:( )

I've had a couple of appointments since my last post. All is well- baby is head down- blah, blah, blah. I did have an internal at my last appointment- not great- but not anywhere near as awful as I was expecting.
My baby shower is this weekend- I am so excited. I have a couple of girlfriends coming in from out of town.

Random QOTDs.
Heels Yep- still wearing them. I have to wear a suit everyday- so I still sport the pumps.
Swelling Some. If I sit too long- my feet turn into footballs.

QOTD: Does anyone else have weird taste issues? Nothing tastes right to me (except pizza.) I have standard things that I LOVE to eat- but everything is leaving a bad taste in my mouth lately. The only things that taste good are salty and horrible for me.

Hope everyone is well.

lisa- thank you :) that is so sweet of you.

I am sorry you hate how everything tastes! that would be terrible. I have the opposite I guess, as it is only a few things that taste funny to me. Eggs taste funny to me pretty consistently. I usually give them to DH, tell him to taste them to see if they taste funny, and he tells me that I am crazy. He is the official taste tester! :)

Hi Everyone!

It's been FOREVER since I last posted here, so I'm going to have to skip the SOs.

Things here are going well. I am pretty darn ready to have this kid. But DH insists that we let him cook a while longer. (My mom I wait untl my due date - 10/14 - since she and my dad will be on vacation until 10/10. I told her no promises. It's not my fault they planned poorly! :p )

This pregnancy has been much rougher than my last - from the worse morning sickness, to the constant tiredness, to the early swelling and round ligament pains, to the many contractions, to failing the 1 hr glucose test, (I passed the 3 hr), to extreme back pain and sciatica... I could go on and on. The back pain/sciatica started over a month ago and it got to the point where I could barely walk and it almost ruined my DH's long Labor day weekend. Since then, the back/hip/butt/leg pain got better, although the numbness has persisted for over a month. But then last week, it started getting worse again. I called my OB because of that pain and because I was having very frequent contractions, (there would be times I'd have more than 10 an hour) - he told me to stop working and to rest. I pretty much just ignored him, because resting seems to make the pain worse and it's not like staying home with a 2 year old is very restful anyway. Might as well keep working... I seem to be back on the mend now, but am just getting worn out by all of this. I was measuring ahead for a little while, but my last two appointments I have measuring right on schedule. I had another appointment on Wednesday. Since I’ve been having so many contractions, (up to 8-10 an hour, although not regular), he checked my cervix, since I was already undressed for my GBS swab. Still closed up tight and long. Doesn’t look like this kid is going anywhere soon.

At home, we're slowly working on getting the nursery together. We spent a lot of time working on cleaning out what was our guest room in order to convert it to DD's big girl room. She LOVES her new room. But now we're working on getting the baby's room ready. I feel kind of useless as my DH is doing most of the work, (very unlike last time around), because I'm either too busy with DD or in too much pain or too tired to work. When we have help, (i.e family comes to visit and can entertain DD), I've been running out to the stores to get miscellaneous things for both rooms. It seriously feels like we're just hemmorhaging money! And we're not even buying that much for the baby! I still need to get all the baby stuff down from the attic to start going through what we'll be able to reuse. The to-do list seems never ending.

At work, I'm plugging a long with the day to day. It's hard to stay focused - especially on the days when I'm in a lot of pain. I have a lot of things to get in order before I leave and still need to finalize how long I plan to stay out on maternity leave. My co-workers threw me a mini-shower today. It was completely unnecessary, (since this is my second), but still very sweet of them. I have to admit that it was very nice because part of me really does feel that this second kid is getting a bit short changed compared to all the excitement before my daughter was born!

Now for a few of the past QOTDs:

Funny Tastes – Haven’t had much of this yet. But I do recall dealing with funny aftertastes when I was pg last time. Usually I’d have this weird sour taste in my mouth.

Swelling – I haven’t been able to wear my e-ring since early in the first trimester, so I guess you could say that I’ve been swollen since then. But my slightly larger wedding ring still fits. My swelling is mostly in my feet. Some days are worse than others and I can definitely notice when I’ve eaten too much sodium or if I haven’t been drinking enough water.

Preparing DD - We try to talk about the baby in my tummy as often as we can. Sometimes she seems to understand, sometimes she doesn't. She tells me that she has a baby in her tummy too. She loves playing with her dolls - she feeds them, puts them to bed, rocks them, changes them, lays them on her chest to go "night-night"... She also commandeers any baby clothes that have come into the house to put on either her teddy bears or dolls. We got a couple of books to read with her about babies and we have a few presents stored away to give her "from the baby". I want to take her shopping sometime soon to buy a small gift for baby that she can give to him when he arrives.

Water Breaking - I'm one of the few whose water broke while out and about. DH and I were at a party.

Detergent – We’ve been using All Free & Clear for our whole household since DD was born. DD had some eczema her first year, but it didn’t appear to be detergent related. We’ve had no problems with it.

I hope to do better at keeping up with this thread as we go in to our final weeks. I have to say that I’m pretty amazed that we don’t have any babies or moms on full bed-rest yet. Here’s hoping we all stay healthy!

I had my bi-weekly checkup this morning and the doctor is concerned because I'm measuring big. She said if I'm still measuring big in 2 weeks, I'll have an ultrasound and then we'll discuss options based on the results of that. I'd be 37 weeks at that point, so I guess it's possible she'd suggest induction. Next appt 10/20.

Lydia - I have a problem with night sweats too. I wake up in a puddle every morning. And this is after sleeping with no covers while my husband is lying beside me covered with a sheet and down comforter.

Kadee - My swelling doesn't really go down. Sitting with my feet up makes them feel a bit better, but I don't see much reduction in the swelling.

Funny tastes - Not really funny tastes, but nothing sounds good to me. I don't have much of an appetite these days.

I just lost my nice long post :(. So, I will keep this one short.

Thanks for all the support concerning the annoying Dr. I am trying to tell myself that she was just having a bad day and hopefully will be more accomodating in the future. We will see...

The baby's dresser is finally going to get delivered! It is supposed to be delivered next week. I feel like I am finally getting closer to having the room put together. My Stepmom took me to PBK yesterday and bought some curtains for the baby's room :). I will take some pic's when we have made some more progress! Now, I just have to figure out the odds and ends that the room needs.

October Bdays- Happy Birthday to catgirl on Saturday and her DD on Sunday! My birthday is the 16th. There sure are a lot of October birthdays around here!

Mimieliza~ I’m not sure what a version is, but I’m hoping your little girl turns head-down in the coming weeks, in time for delivery so you don’t have to do the c-section (unless of course you prefer the c/s). I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you on that! :)

Ellidew~ How funny that you had to drink a gallon of juice to get Miles a-movin’ at the NST! My little guy seems to be in a constant state of awake-and-kicking-ness. The instructions told me to eat a meal or snack prior to the appt, and I had lunch about an hour before the appt. It seriously doesn’t take much (if anything these days) to get him moving around. It’s like a round-the-clock jujitsu class in there I swear. I told DH we’re gonna have our hands full if he’s this active outside the womb.:eek:

Lydia~ Congrats on being 36w along!! You’re getting so close, OMG!! I’ve been getting some very excessive night sweats. Even when the house is 68 degrees and I’m shivering, I still wake up with damp pajamas and feeling quite warm. Just another joy of pregnancy perhaps??

Roberta~ Sorry to hear about the high bp! Yay for the yoga helping to bring some of the swelling down, I love prenatal yoga (when I’m not too tired to pop in the DVD).

Kadee~ I hope your swelling goes down! I’ve only had mild mild swelling in my feet on one day where I was up and about all day long, and it didn’t take long for the swelling to go away.

Nic~ That’s great you got to do the hospital tour! All we did was an orientation where we saw pictures and slides of the rooms on a screen. From what I could tell from the slides (and from my hospital visit Tues) it looks very nice. That is odd about having to go down the hall to use a shower while you’re in labor though, I think all L&D bathrooms should have showers in them for privacy and convenience.:confused:

Lisainpink~ Glad to hear that all is checking out fine, and that baby is head down! Hope you have a fantastic shower this weekend!!

Weird taste issues~ At the moment I am, but I’m 95% sure it’s because I’m sick right now and with a stuffed-up head cold nothing tastes good to me. This is just as of yesterday so hopefully once I get over it, my tastebuds/sense of smell goes back to normal.:(

Lisariv~ Sorry to hear you’ve had such a rough pregnancy! At least your due date is right around the corner, so you don’t have too much longer to stick it out. Yay for getting the nursery put together, that’s awesome about DD loving her big-girl room!

Ppwgal~ Did your doc say you’re measuring big in the ‘gonna be a big baby’ sense, or by doing those measurements of the belly?? Hopefully an u/s will reveal a normal-sized baby so you don’t have to go thru an induction (unless of course you prefer to be induced early).:)

Rubbersoul~ Sorry to hear about the long-post-loss! I hate it when that happens. I’ve taken to writing my replies in Word then copying & pasting into CC when I’m done because it’s happened to me so many times. Yay for the baby’s dresser almost being here!! I can’t wait to see pics of your nursery! I’m sure it’s looking great!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My head cold got worse last night and I woke up this morning with a very bad cough, headache, sore throat and totally stuffed up head. I took the morning off and headed into work a little after noontime, to get caught up on some stuff. Feeling slightly better, but definitely still stuffed up and looking forward to resting some more this evening.
We had our first childbirth class last night, which was a lot of fun and quite informative, considering I already wasn't feeling well and was still exhausted from a poor night's sleep the night before. There about 12 other couples there, and it was the first child for all of them (as it is for us), so this is turning out to be a huge learning experience for all of us. The instructor seems really cool, she also teaches the BFing class I'm attending next week. During break a bunch of us raided the orientation room and stole cookies, lemonade and bottled water. We capped off the class with 20 minutes of yoga-mat time, with our partners seated behind us (Matterhorn Boblsed style) helping us do these deep breathing techniques and also massaging us (which was reeeeally nice!).
I go into the hospital tomorrow again for my second NST. Here's hoping it will be as successful (and uneventful) as the first one!
Thank you for the bday wishes, ladies! :) I can't believe I'm going to be 37 tomorrow... it sounds so old, but I don't feel old at all.
DD had another bad night last night. We broke a record - it took me 2 hours and 50 minutes to get her down. I ended up crying b/c I was so exhausted and frustrated, then she laughed at me and I cried harder. Bad night! Tonight it "only" took 45 minutes. We're changing how we do some things to make it easier on both of us.
So... now that it's after 10pm I'm going to try to get some sleep. I did want to say, Rancid, I hope you feel better! Being sick sucks, being sick and PG is the worst!!!
I hope you all have wonderful weekends!! :D
Thanks everyone for the replies re: the swelling. It's totally a new thing to me so I got totally paranoid. The swelling is still there so I am guessing it is here to stay. I will probably mention it at my next appt just so they know but my dr doesn't really talk to me about anything so I am guessing she won't really care. :rolleyes:
Happy Birthday to everyone celebrating and I hope those who are sick are feeling better soon.
I meant to ask this awhile ago and forgot...
Is anyone planning on getting a Halloween costume for their DC??? Well not so much those due at the end of the month but for those due at the beginning. ;) I actually got lucky a few months ago and found a really cute costume at a garage sale for $2. It was brand new. I figured $2 wasn't too much to spend for a just in case scenario. If he decides to come early he will probably go visit at least the IL's and my grandparents if the weather isn't too bad. If it is then I will send DH out with the other kids and I will stay home and pass out candy. That's my favorite part anyways.
Oh and I guess we are telling people what the name is. I didn't know we were but DH has been telling everyone at his office so I started telling too. So DS#2 will be......Matthew Collin. :)
kadee ~ Very cool name!! :)
Halloween costume ~ I got Devin a beaver bunting outfit. That way if he's here for Halloween he can wear it and if not, then it's his winter "coat". I got it from Gymboree - all their bunting (http://www.gymboree.com/search/search.jsp) is on sale right now - bear, beaver, penguin, flower, bunny, etc. Baby Gap also has baby bunting. I got one of my friends the Gap bear bunting for her DS who was born 4 weeks ago.
ETA: For some reason the Gymbo link doesn't go directly to the bunting. When you get to the page that's linked, just type bunting and it'll take you there.
Kadee- I love the name Matthew Collin.
I'm undecided about a halloween costume. I really think I'm going to go a little early but I'm usually wrong so with my luck I'll have to be induced at 42 weeks.
Halloween costume - I wish I could because they're all so cute! But seeing as how I'm due after Thanksgiving, it doesn't make sense.
I did buy the pink bear bunting outfit from Old Navy during their sale, though. Since then I fell in love with the bear bunting from the Gap that catgirl1007 mentioned, so I might get that too... it's SOOOO cute!
Hope everyone's feeling well! TGIF!
Halloween is also DH's birthday, so it's a big event for us! Part of me wishes DD would arrive a little earlier so I'm able to attend Halloween festivities with our friends!! :)
catgirl- I'm so sorry that DD is having issues going to sleep. It can be so frustrating. I hope it's a short phase she's going through, and whatever you try next works!!
And Happy Birthday to you!! I'm glad you don't feel 37!!! Since I'm right behind you, I can say that I DO feel 37 physically... just not mentally! ;)
kadee- What a nice name for your DS! Isn't it funny how men claim WE can't keep secrets when it's THEM who always end up telling.... :rolleyes:
***********************
DS had his first day at PDO/Wee School yesterday and it didn't go well. He cried pretty much the whole time. :( It really wasn't a surprise, as he's never been left with strangers before... but I was really hoping he'd outgrown his separation anxiety. We'll try again next week and hope it gets better.
Other than that, I've caught the cold that DS had earlier this week. This last 3 weeks can't go fast enough for me... I am DONE being a pregnant woman. I know many women say that and then get the baby bug a year or so later, but I honestly don't think I will. I sadly have not enjoyed the later part of my pregnancy this time around. I am just physically exhausted. I'm ready to get on with the next phase of my life and be a wonderful mommy to DS & DD!
katnbug - I totally agree with this! It has been much harder this time around, and I truly feel I am finished with this part of my life. I look forward to the kids getting bigger, taking fun family vacations and all that. :)
kadee - love the name!
Halloween costume - Andrew picked out a Superman costume for himself and Matthew shouldn't be here yet, so no costume for him this year! :p
Catgirl~ Happy Birthday!! Sounds like you had such a tough time w/DD going to bed the other night. That sucks. Hopefully the changes you make will help with getting her to bed/sleep. Thanks for the well-wishes! I’m definitely feeling better today, but definitely am still sick, just not as bad as Weds night and yesterday. Thanks to Tylenol Cold.:)
Halloween costume~ Nope…unfortunately our little guy won’t likely make his debut until mid to late November at the absolute earliest (EDD is beginning of Dec). I got a little bummed when I was at Target last weekend and saw a ton of adorable little baby costumes that I know we won’t be able to get this year. There’s always next year though!!:D
Kadee~ I like the name you picked for DS!! I also hope your swelling goes down or eases up, hopefully it’s just regular pregnancy swelling and nothing more serious.:)
Katnbug~ How exciting that DH’s bday is on Halloween! It’s one of my favorite holidays, besides Thanksgiving and Christmas of course. And how exciting that DD will be here in time for the holiday!! Sorry to hear about the tough time DS had at his first day of school. Here’s hoping it will get easier for the both of you from here on out.:)
Good morning ladies! I just had to stop by and say that DH and I babysat for the sweetest 9 week old baby boy last night. We did bathtime, dinner, and put him down to sleep, and he was so patient with us. It was so fun to practice the diaper changing and soothing and stuff on a baby that young. I haven't babysat for an infant since I was a teenager. If anyone has a chance to get their paws on a baby, it'll get you really excited for our little ones to arrive!
kadee - Congrats on picking a name. We are still totally undecided.
katnbug & rancid - Sorry you guys are feeling so yucky. I totally don't have time to get sick right now, but if my pattern hold true I'll pick up a bug after my events are over this weekend.
Funny realizations - I've noticed lately that I'll have funny realizations about the coming of the baby like "Oh my gosh! This baby needs socks! I can't believe I don't have any socks." And my sudden obsession for getting our rugs cleaned/replaced since they are way to gross to put a baby down on, but have been fine for me/DH to sit on.
I could not agree with this statement anymore than if I had written it myself! I don't feel like I've enjoyed more than a handful of days this time around and I still have about 5-6 weeks left which seems like an eternity. I just want to have my family complete and start doing all those fun things that come with having kids out of the baby phase and a mommy (i.e. me) who isn't uncomfortable all the time.
I got a nice surprise the other night...one that I totally wasn't expecting. The moms of the playgroup that DD is part of is a really tight knit group of women. There are 8 of us and outside of our weekly meetings with the kids we also do a book group and a mom's night out every month. Well, this month's mom's night out was a surprise baby shower for me! Figuring that we had almost everything we needed from DD (clothes, most gear etc) they loaded us up with diapers in a range of sizes and each person either made a meal to freeze or gave a gift certificate for a delivery place for after the baby is born. Considering the second time around you don't usually get a shower, I was totally shocked and touched that they would do that.
I've really done very little in terms of a nursery for #2 but it's mainly because we're thinking about moving next year and it doesn't make a lot of sense to paint/decorate if we're just going to move anyways. The whole nesting thing hasn't quite hit me (too tired and annoyed to bother) but I did manage to get almost all of DD's clothes washed and hung up for #2 and the only big thing we have left to get is our double stroller which we'll hopefully be ordering pretty soon.
So many posts, so little time to respond!
weird food tastes~ yup, count me in on that one! Nothing tastes right and I also have my DH taste everything for me. The saltier, the better, otherwise, it tastes gross and bland to me. So strange.
Halloween costume~ no, none for us. With my c-section scheduled for 11/20, we are praying not to meet our baby any sooner. I will only be 35 weeks by Halloween- baby needs to bake a little longer than that!
swelling~ my hands have been swelling off and on since very early in this pregnancy. i put my e-ring away 2 or 3 weeks ago. :( so sad. i wear a plain wedding band, but am tempted to go buy a fake e-ring in a larger size, because I miss mine so much. :o :eek:
dealing with a toddler in the 3rd trimester??? DD (18+ months) is great some moments and a devil at others. I just have little patience, I guess, but even DH thinks she is more difficult than normal. She refused her nap today- so much fun, espcially since she is sleeping in a twin bed and not a crib. She climbs out and plays with her books and toys. Ugh. 2 hours of trying to put her back to bed is so not fun! I finally gave up and helped her pick up the toys.:o
Questions for you guys: Anyone feeling a little blah? I was feeling anxious and easily aggitated for a few weeks, but this week, I am just sorta blah- not thrilled, not sad, not angry, not cranky- just blank... I have never been this way for more than a few hours before, so it is really strange for me.
I really think I'm going to go a little early but I'm usually wrong so with my luck I'll have to be induced at 42 weeks.
Nic ~ That cracked me up - sounds like something I'd say and something that would happen to me, too. :)
Kat ~ I responded in your sep anxiety thread. That is so sad that DS's PDO didn't go well. :( Do you think that maybe it was worsened by him not feeling very well? I hope you feel better. I'm sorry you caught what he had. Very cute outfit for Hilary!!
Rancid13 ~ I'm glad you're feeling better. Thank you for the bday wishes!
CityGirl ~ That sounds like a perfect babysitting experience! It's cool that you got to do that.
brio96 ~ That's so nice of your mom's group to give you a baby shower and what perfect gifts!!
Roberta ~ Wow!! I'm glad you're at the hospital and they're taking good care of you. Hopefully your little one will stay put.
I've been contracting every afternoon this week. Yesterday at my NST I contracted every 5-10 minutes but am still only 1 fingertip. So this afternoon they picked up - more like every 2 minutes and are slightly stronger, but I can still talk. So I called my doula and she suggested I lie down on my left side, drink water, etc., etc., etc. Kind of hard to do with a 2 year old. So I have her plugged into the TV, which I hate to do. I contracted like this with DD for 2 months before I was eventually induced at 40 weeks for med reasons. :rolleyes: My body is so freakin' weird!!
neenbean ~ We cross posted. Yeah... dealing with a toddler and being PG - fun, isn't it? I can totally relate and am sorry you're having a difficult day. Hopefully since she refused her nap today she'll go to bed early tonight and you can have some peace & quiet. They have got to sense that we're PG and I'm wondering if that's why their behavior is what it is. Either that or it's typical terrible 2's stuff. DD started with terrible 2's around 18 months.
And my sudden obsession for getting our rugs cleaned/replaced since they are way to gross to put a baby down on, but have been fine for me/DH to sit on.
I was just thinking about socks last night too! I was nodding off to sleep and out of nowhere I wondered if we had socks for the baby somewhere in that pile of gift clothes or if I needed to run out and get some. :eek: I've cleaned the floors in our condo (80% of the flooring in our place is hardwood) so they're spotless, but have beenconsidering getting a carpet cleaner in to take care of the floor in the bedrooms in the next couple weeks.
Roberta~ OMG, I just saw your post! How scary! :eek: I hope all remains well with the baby during your hospital stay, and that he stays put for at least a few more weeks of cooking in there!! I'm keeping you guys in my thoughts all weekend and hope to hear good news come Sunday.
Anyone feeling a little blah? I've been feeling very blah this week, which may or may not have to do with this darned head cold/stuffed-uppedness/congestion I've had since Tuesday afternoon. I have a feeling of general uncomfortableness a lot of the time thanks to the belly and added weight, and I just feel tired pretty much all the time considering how hard of time I've been having sleeping. I just keep telling myself, less than 2 months to go and a lot of this will be over (and then I'll have a whole slew of new things to keep me busy, tired, and complaining, LOL!).
Citygirl~ How unnerving it must be to be contracting so much this early! I was contracting very very mildly at my NST on Tuesday (so mildly that I felt nothing, even though they registered on the graph, and the baby moved around plenty each time it happened). Barely a blip on the graph today though which I suppose is good considering I'm just past the 32w mark.
catgirl1007~ yeah, the "terrible two's" started about 2 months ago for us. I think they pick up on how tired we are and that our patience is so much less. In turn, they take advantage of the situation- exerting their independence. Lucky us, huh? DD was such a great infant, I was tricked into thinking 2 under 2 would be a breeze! :o I hope your contractions stop soon (unless you want to deliver this weekend!). Good luck.
Rancid~ sorry to hear you are feeling blah, too. A cold while pregnant is the worst! I am so happy that all my sinus congestion has not developed past that- knock on wood! Have you tried taking regular Robitussin liquid? It worked wonders for me while pregnant with DD. Good job cleaning all of your hardwood floors! That is awesome. Nesting much? ;) JK!
Roberta- Keep that baby inside for a little while longer!!!
I hope the hospital rest helps.
catgirl- Thanks for the response to DS's PDO issues! I kind of expected it to go poorly, but was trying to convince myself it wouldn't be so bad... just to make me feel better about leaving him! :rolleyes: He had a good night the night before, no coughing or runny nose, so I thought he was ok. Maybe he was still a little off. I'm hoping things go better next week.
So sorry about your continued contractions! I'm sure it's not helping your stress levels!! Hang in there.
neenbean- Sorry your DD is testing your nerves! I can completely sympathize. Good thing that she's asleep now... hope she doesn't wake up at 9pm like you said!! I always worry about that when DS takes a late nap.
laundry detergent update- For those of you who use or would like to try All Free & Clear: I was at WalMart this morning and they have the Small & Mighty bottles of it on sale for $2/each (limit of 4). They're the 3x concentrated bottles - each does 32 loads. I'm not sure if all WalMarts run the same sales at the same time, but I thought I'd pass it along. I sound like an advertisement, don't I????
I've been doing the Tylenol Cold thing, as I have no interest in stopping by the grocery or drugstore at this time (running errands=ugh!!)...I'm just using what I have on hand already. :) Seems to be working, my sore throat and cough are gone, and it's just my sinuses draining right now pretty much. rancid - this may be an old list from Babycenter.com, but here's what they recommend for treating a cold while pregnant (I had to refer to it not long ago - achoo!):
Cough or cold
Guaifenesin, an expectorant (Hytuss, Mucinex, Naldecon Senior EX, Robitussin)
Dextromethorphan, a cough suppressant (Benylin Adult, Robitussin Maximum Strength Cough, Scot-Tussin DM, Vicks 44 Cough Relief)
Guaifenesin plus dextromethorphan (Benylin Expectorant, Robitussin DM, Vicks 44E)
Cough drops
Vicks VapoRub
Avoid cold remedies that contain alcohol. Also avoid the decongestants pseudoephedrine and phenylephrine, which can affect blood flow to the placenta.
:) I had my 36 week checkup this morning & got a NST too. I was supposed to be on the NST machine for 20 minutes, but the dr. came in after 15 and liked what he saw, so I was done! He actually said "they don't get any better than that".... Aw shucks! ;) My bp was a little better on the top side - 130/80. Still not great, but no warnings to rest or anything.
DH is trying to earn Husband-of-the-Year award or something... he has mowed the front and back yards, hung my shelves, picked up his dry cleaning (which he never does), and is currently putting together the art table and bench we got for DS's birthday. While he was doing all of this work DS and I went to a Autumn Harvest festival (god forbid they call it Halloween anymore :rolleyes: ) in our downtown area. We went on a hay ride, fed the animals at the petting zoo, did some craft projects and ate Kettle Korn!! Well... I ate the Kettle Korn. DS is now wiped out and sleeping so I think I'll run up to Baby Depot to get some more hangers for the nursery!
Have a great day everyone!
laundry detergent- Going to try the Method baby detergent on the crib bedding. will update after with the smell.
Today was our last childbirth class. I really liked it, and thought it was so informative. The nurse teaching the class also works at the hospital I'm delivering at, so she was able to tell us a lot of specific things to the hospital.
Unfortunately, it was miserable for me today, since my allergies were just awful. My eyes were hurting, my throat was itchy, and my nose was running the entire time. I've always had bad sinus/allergy problems, so I guess I'm lucky I haven't had any bad episodes up until now.
rancid - this may be an old list from Babycenter.com, but here's what they recommend for treating a cold while pregnant (I had to refer to it not long ago - achoo!):
Thanks! For the time being, I'm sticking to the (laundry) list my ob gave me which includes Tylenol Cold, Tylenol Allergy/Sinus, Tylenol #3,, Tylenol PM, Benadryl, Robitussin DM, Robitussin Plain, Sudafed, Vicks Vapor Rub, Dextromethorphan, Claritin Halls Drops, Chloraseptic Spray, Cepacol, and Sucrets for the whole cold/sore throat/cough thing.
And that's only 3 of the 14 columns of afflictions/symptoms and the medications I can take to relieve them according to the paper she gave me. :eek: Somehow even Vicodin is on there in the "aches/pains" category, I would've assumed for sure that'd be a no-no...go figure!!
But after a full day of rest (no getting up at 5:45am to get ready for work!) and doing a whole lot of nothing today, I feel a lot better. My cough is almost completely gone and my stuffed-up sinuses are definitely clearing out. :D
I forgot to mention that we had a call yesterday from BRU that all our nursery furniture is in and ready to be picked up!! So for the next few days after he gets home from work, DH is going to finish clearing out the extra bedroom of his stuff (there's really not much left) and on Tuesday he's gonna spackle the holes in the wall from his pictures and get to painting the room. He's hoping to be able to pick up the furniture on Wednesday before we have to rush off to our childbirth class. I feel like this week, we're actually going to accomplish things. :D
Catgirl ~ Those buntings are so cute. It took a lot for me not to order a few. ;)
Katnbug ~ That is so cool that your DH’s birthday is on Halloween. Both DH and I are huge Halloween people. Hmmm I wonder if any of us will have a Halloween baby. Isn't it funny how men claim WE can't keep secrets when it's THEM who always end up telling.... :rolleyes: What gets me is we talked about how we weren’t telling anyone. Men.
CityGirl ~ I am with you on the funny realizations part. I was all over DH yesterday because it dawned on me that I hit my 36w mark and still had a bazillion things to do and or buy.
Brio~ That is so nice of the moms to throw you a shower like that. That is definitely stuff you will need.
Roberta ~ I hope all is going well and that baby stays put.
Rancid ~ Somehow even Vicodin is on there in the "aches/pains" category, I would've assumed for sure that'd be a no-no...go figure!! You would be surprised what they will let pg women have. I have been on Tylenol 4 (yes 4 :eek: ) for months now because of my headaches. And will probably be on it while I attempt bf’ing as well. They at one time even talked about vicodin but bumped me from Tylenol 3 to 4. I hate taking it but I would be in the hospital constantly if I didn’t.
How exciting to be able to finish the baby’s room. I am hoping to finish up our stuff this week sometime.
* * * * * * * * * *
I wound up going to the OB on Friday. I had a headache start up Thursday and by Friday morning it was starting to affect my vision. They checked my urine and BP and everything is fine so she isn’t worried about pre-e but she was glad I came in with the swelling and everything so she can keep on eye on it. She also went ahead and did the GBS instead of me having to go back on Monday. I guess I am on the Friday schedule now.
Yesterday I finally talked DH into going to BRU to pick up some stuff we would need for Matthew’s arrival. I thought he was going to have a heart attack when the total came to over $300. LoL I think once I have everything set up I will finally feel ok with the baby coming. I am working on laundry and stuff today while I try to get my paper done for tomorrow nights class.
I hope everyone is feeling better. Have a great rest of the weekend.
I only saw a few replies but thanks to everyone for the well wishes. Baby is still inside for now. they reviewed my dates and said I am 33 w 6 days and the magic number is 34. They stopped the meds this morning. Mag sulfate sucks. The plan is if no contrax I go home. If I contrax and go into labor they will let me deliver. Wait and see today. I am still on the monitors and having some contrax. A bit uncomfortable but hopefully I can go home with a baby in my tummy and shower and relax tonight. BBL with updates
Rancid ~ I'm glad you're feeling better and yay for the furniture being in! Perfect timing! Hey, do you want to come over and clean our house since you have the nesting urge? It seems like I clean every weekend but it still looks messy.
Kat ~ Thanks for the All Free & Clear info. We just started using it b/c I think it's the only fragrance free one that's for HE washing machines. That's a great price! How are you & DS feeling? Sounds like you had fun at the festival yesterday.
mayham ~ Ugh... I'm sorry about your allergies. I have them all year round so I know what you're going through. I hope you're doing better today. Oh, more about the contrax below - thanks for asking. :)
Kadee ~ I'm glad everything was fine at your appt and there's no pre-e scare. It's good that you went in to have them check. Did you get all of your laundry done? I'm working on 6 loads for me & DD today and still have 2-3 for Devin. It never ends!
roberta ~ I'm glad you're so close to 34 weeks! Are you nervous? I hope your contrax stop and you get to go home and rest, but if they don't, I wish you a speedy L&D. Looking forward to hearing what happens.
Yesterday for my bday we went to a fire dept open house so that DD could see the trucks, then we went to a pumpkin patch, then we went to Chili's for dinner and I cheated BIG time on my GD diet. I figured it was okay since it was my bday. ;) Today is DD's bday and my dad & step-mom are coming over this afternoon and tomorrow morning (they live out of state).
So last night I woke up at 12:30am and my stomach hurt really bad. I figured it was from what I ate for dinner, but I touched my belly and it was super hard as a rock. I got up, went to the bathroom, drank some water and tried to go back to sleep. I slept okay... not great, and have been contracting all morning. They don't hurt. I guess I'd classify them as "mildly uncomfortable". They are somewhat strong, but not like the ones you get before you need to push. I've had a couple of stabbing pains in my cervix. I'm just going to wait and see what happens. I have an appt Wed afternoon. I guess if they get worse I'll call my OB, but I honestly don't think they're doing anything. I had pre-term contrax with DD for 2 months. I haven't lost any of my plug yet, so I guess that's a good sign. I swear, if I go in on Wed. and am still dilated 1 fingertip after all these contrax... that would just be par for the course. :p
I am home! I was discharged from the hospital this afternoon. Contractions calmed down and I am 1.5 cm dialated and still 50% effaced.
Here is the story:
After a yummy birthday dinner, DH and I came home and went to sleep. At 2:45am, I woke because it felt like I had wet myself in my sleep. I was awake but still in bed when I felt more fluid. I thought, "well, I didn't just pee..." I went into the bathroom and saw a lot of blood. I went downstairs to call the doctor care line. They advised me to go to the hospital (not the one I planned on delivering at becasue they were full) and told me to not take longer than 30 minutes. They were concerned because of my history of placenta pervia. So I woke DH, had a small crying session, threw on some clothes and DH drove to the hospital like a madman. I went into L&D triage, got the first steriod shot for baby's lungs, had an internal exam and tests for infections with the midwife on call (my favorite from the practice who is not my assigned midwife). She is the one who gave us the wrong gestation dates. My contraxs were 1-2 every minute. They admitted me and put me in a room in L&D. I was hooked up to the monitors (fetal heart rate and contrax) and started on magnesium sulfate IV. The mag sulfate (and the contrax) meant I had to stay in bed. I ended up allowing a catheder later in the afternoon because calling for a nurse and peeing in the bedpan was not fun. The mag sulfate didn't make me nauseaus, but I felt like I had really bad flu. I couldn't focus my eyes, felt really hot and thirsty and had major shakes. I didn't realize how crummy the mag made me feel until the stopped it. At least I could eat and drink! I had an ultrasound to check the placement of the placenta, which is fine and did not cause the bleeding. They think the bleeding was caused by the contractions and the dialation and effacement.
So now, no more midwife. I have to switch to an OB. I am also going to switch hospitals. The hospital I was at has the best NICU and it is brand new. DH went to see the NICU and they are private rooms where you can room in with your baby, no restrictions on visting hours for parents. I was really happy with the quality of care I received at this hospital. All of the nurses and doctors were very nice and took time to explain things.
I am back on plevic rest (big surprise- DH confessed he has been avoiding DTD because of the placenta previa concerns anyway). No lifting over 20 pounds, no strenous activity. Call and come back to the hospital if I have more than 4-10 contractions in an hour or 1 every 10 minutes, any bleeding or fluid. The next time I go to the hospital I will be delivering and coming home with a baby!
I am very tired, achy and sore. I am off to make a list of the stuff we will be finishing this week- pack bags, install and inspect car seat, ect.
roberta- I'm so glad you are home!! I've even more ecstatic that you and baby bean are doing so well. What a scare that all must've been for you and i'm glad you came through it well. It also sounds like some good has come out of it in regards to switching hospitals and doctors. Take care of yourself and REST!!!
roberta ~ I am so happy to hear that you are home and that everything is ok. I will keep my fingers crossed that it stays that way for a few more weeks.
catgirl ~ Did you get all of your laundry done? I'm working on 6 loads for me & DD today and still have 2-3 for Devin. It never ends! You are so right about it never ending. I wound up getting a late start but both the washer and dryer are running as I type. I am one of those cleaners that will start one place and do 50 different things before I get back to the first thing I was doing. But I can say that I have cleaned out my closet, the kitchen pantry and half of the hall closet. I had DH move our bed yesterday and cleaned up a ton in there today. Unfortunately, I have yet to start my paper which is due in about 22 hours. :rolleyes: I don't think my instructor would understand if I said I was nesting and got too busy to do it. LoL
Roberta~ what a relief to know you are home and still pregnant! That is great news that the hospital you are switching to is better equipped for pre-term babies and more private accomodations for you! I made the switch, too, for this pregnancy because of the same reasons.
Nesting~ I have been nesting for months! We bought a new changing table, cleaned a couple closets, organized the baby's clothing, set up the bassinet and switched DD to her BIG GIRL BED so we could have the crib in our room for the baby. I am vacuuming more often than ever and the living room is never a mess more than hour (from DD's toys!). Basically, our home is ready if baby is born tomorrow. :o
ellidew~ you look great! nice pics your DH took. :)
roberta ~ I'm so glad everything is okay, that you're back at home, and that the little one decided to stay put. What a scary situation, esp since it happened so quickly. So does the "pelvic rest" include any kind of modified bed rest, or are you free to roam around as long as don't overdo it?
kadee ~ Good luck with your paper! What are you going to school for? I know you've mentioned school before but I missed what it was about.
ellidew ~ You look great!! Those are really nice pics that your DH took. It's funny, I pictured you with brown hair for some reason. You & I actually have similar coloring.
Roberta I am so glad that you are home and baby has stayed put. Looks like we're due date buddies...I can't imagine that kind of scare this early. Take it easy and here's hoping your little one stays put.
Ellidew Beautiful pictures! You had a lovely day for it. All those leaves on the ground make me realize how close we all are to fall.
____________________________________
Had my 34 week midwife appointment yesterday. Baby is head down and 1/5th into my pelvis (not sure if that means engaged or just resting in my pelvis). Anyway, that was good news, as last time baby was breech. I have been using a birthing ball to try and encourage the baby into the correct position. I hope it continues to work as I know that babies can always flip unexpectedly. My blood pressure was fine and I am measuring 33cms. I am at the "feeling huge" stage so I was convinced I'd be MUCH bigger but I guess it is just all in my head.
I did have some sugar in my urine so she wants me to come back in tomorrow (tues) to check it again. She said not to worry too much but I am worrying anyway. I guess if there is sugar again she might send me for a GTT test (haven't had one yet).
We also got to see their delivery room and labour/birthing pool. The pool is huge! The size of a hot-tub, which is quite comforting, as I had pictured a small regular sized tub. It is in the labour/delivery room so I will be able to get in and out as I want. She did say it takes 40mins to fill so I guess I will need to keep that in mind if I want to use it.
Our childbirth classes have been going really well. I am soooo glad we spent the money. I think is it really beneficial to DH as he is able to form his own opinions on things like pain relief/interventions and not just take my word about what is best.
I am now down to three-day work weeks, which is wonderful. The person that had been hired to cover my maternity leave has sadly found another full-time permanent position. I totally understand why she would take that over simple maternity cover but I really hope my boss can find someone soon. I really would prefer to have some hand-over period and I only have a month left (last day Nov 9th).
DH and I varnished the dresser we bought for the babies room. We now just need to take out the guest bed and start setting up the nursery. Although MIL announced that she is going to visit soon, so I guess I need to leave it set up for a bit longer...sigh...
I can't believe that we are going to have babies before the month is out! :eek: Sounds like our first one is just around the corner. I hope everyone's babies cooperate and come when the moms and dads are ready for them :)
So much excitement going on!
Roberta--Glad to hear you're home and everything is okay. Fingers crossed that the baby stays in a little longer
Ellidew--awesome pictures--you're glowing!
I went with 3 other preggos from our prenatal water aerobics class to an apple orchard this weekend. You would have thought we were celebs or something the way people would turn, stare, and even point! I guess 4 preggos is a sight to see!
Looking forward to my appt on Thursday to see if anything is going on--hard to believe we're starting weekly appointments already!
Basically, our home is ready if baby is born tomorrow. :o
Can you come to our house next? ;)
roberta- I'm glad to hear your little one is staying put for the time being! Your experience does not sound like fun. I also was on mag sulfate when I was in for DS. I think mine was for my bp though? It didn't make me too sick thank goodness. It sounds like a fortunate thing that you were sent to a different hospital... it's important that you are comfortable with the care you'll be getting. :)
ellidew- Great belly shots!! :D
peaches- That birthing pool sounds nice! Glad to hear your classes are going well also. I definitely think our DH's benefit as much if not more from the information. I hope they find a replacement for your maternity leave soon! You don't need to be worrying about that.
*****************************************
Just chugging along here. DH is now sick and is home from work today- laying on the couch and interrupting our routine!! I think he wants us to pretend that he's not here, but that's not easy when he's napping in the same room as DS & I are in. :rolleyes:
At least now I can go to the store alone when DS takes his nap. I have to get a birthday present for my friends twins who turned one last week. It amazes me that they were born at 26 weeks and are doing so well. We're all very lucky that we've made it so far without major issues.
Kadee~ Sorry to hear about your continuing headache troubles, that can’t be pleasant to have to deal with right now. It’s good to hear that your bp and urine look normal though…that should rule out more serious things like pre-e. Funny you should mention your DH’s about-heart attack about the $300 for stuff at BRU. My DH was asking me over the weekend how much more stuff we would need (I told him I thought around $500-600 worth of stuff) so I just updated my file with all that info and not including the balance we’re paying when we pick up the furniture this week, it’s more in the neighborhood of $1100 (this includes a stroller/carseat/travel combo, mattress, mattress pads, BFing pump supplies, bibs, etc~all essentials). I’m sure he’ll be fine with it though, as it’s all stuff we really truly need.
Roberta~ I'm SO glad to hear that baby is still on the inside for right now!! And so glad to hear that you’re home at long last!! Sorry to hear about the big ordeal at the hospital and now you have to have an ob instead of a mw AND change hospitals. Definitely take care of yourself and rest up!:)
Catgirl~ My nesting urge may have passed…I still have to clean both our bathrooms and my closet and procrastinated all weekend long. I’m trying to find the motivation to finish what I started with the house cleaning, LOL. Sorry to hear about the contrax scare last night, let’s hope that they don’t continue for the time being.
Ellidew~ Fantastic belly shots!! You look great!!:D
Peaches~ Glad to hear that everything is checking out fine, hopefully at tomorrow’s appt there won’t be sugar in your urine this time. Glad to hear the childbirth classes are going well, we had our first last week and it was extremely informative and we’re looking forward to the rest of them as well. 3-day work weeks sounds fabulous, I wish I could do that!! Sometimes I feel like I am, with all the time I’ve been taking off for my dr’s appts and the testing several days a week at the hospital.:rolleyes:
Sinclair~ That’s funny, about the 4 preggos at the apple orchard. Must have been fun though!!:D
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Nothing much to update on here. My cold gets better by the day, hopefully it'll be gone soon enough. I have my BFing class tonight. DH couldn't get the evening off from work, so SIL is going with me for support/company.

I have a message in to my ob's office because I want to find out when I can stop going to these NST's every other day, they're really getting to be a pain considering that all the findings point to the fact that everything's A-OK with both me and the baby (my bp continues to be down). Also want to find out the results of all those blood draws I had done a couple weeks ago, since that was one of the big things my doc was stressing about. I'm sure all is fine so I'd rather not waste 1.5-2 hours twice a week dealing with traffic driving to the hospital, parking, and waiting for 30+ minutes in the waiting room only to be told that all looks good after being hooked up to the monitors for 20 minutes and getting u/s done.

My bp was up on one particularly stressful day that I had an ob appt and I feel like my ob panicked unnecessarily and is having me do all these tests for nothing.:rolleyes: I'm at the point where I feel like having to take the extra time off from work (and therefore losing $) is more stressful and less beneficial to me/the baby than actually going in and getting all these additional tests done...tests which say that all is well. Maybe I'm just having a bad attitude about things right now...

I just had the oddest experience at Starbucks. I drink a caffeinated coffee a day (not from Starbucks, but in general) and don't feel the least bit guilty about it. Everything in moderation - right? Today I decided to treat myself to a pumpkin-flavored coffee at Starbucks. And, the cashier (a man) actually scolded me for not drinking decaf! When I placed my order, he said "you want decaf- right?" while blatantly staring at my stomach. I told him no, I wanted regular. He got it for me, but when he gave me my change he said "You really should get decaf next time." I was floored - I wish I had said something back, but I couldn't think fast enough.

Roberta - Keep up posted. I'm glad you're home with baby still cookin'.

ellidew - Lovely belly shots!

Nesting - I've been feeling the urge to get everything in order for the last few weeks, but this weekend I ran out of energy. I hardly got off the couch yesterday.

Question - We decided to try installing our carseat this weekend. We went into a total panic when we put it in and found that we couldn't push back the passenger seat enough to have a person sit in it when the carseat was installed. We moved it to the center seat and now it's better though we still couldn't put the passenger seat back quite as much as we normally do (We're both 5'8''). We have a Jetta which I thought was a normal size car and this wouldn't be an issue. Anyone else have this experience? Also, will the next car seat we need after the infant seat take up more or less room in the backseat?

acrane
10-09-2006, 12:01 PM
ppwgal - I can't believe the cashier was so rude to you!! I get a drink from Starbucks in my local Target every Saturday and it's never decaf. I would be very angry if someone said what that guy said to you. What an ass!! :mad:

I am 5'9" and had a Jetta when ds was born in 2004 (boy, do I miss that car!). We had the Graco Snugride when he was an infant and then changed to an Evenflo Triumph 5 (I think that's the name) when he outgrew the infant seat. Both times it was in the middle and we didn't have a problem with the driver or passenger seat. There wasn't a ton of leg room but the Jetta isn't that big a car to begin with so it didn't bother me. The Evenflo seat was bigger than the Snugride but again no problems. My Jetta was a 2002 though so maybe the newer ones have less room or something?

I hope everyone else is feeling ok and hanging in there - only a few more weeks to go!!

Rancid13

ppwgal~ What a rude cashier!! Who does he think he is, the pg police??:mad: I think a lot of folks out there equate drinking something with caffeine in it to drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes while pregnant. I drink 1-2 12oz sodas each day, and I'm sure I get a lot of looks (but so far no comments) from people when I do. Who cares what they think...my doc okayed up to 300mg of caffeine per DAY and each soda I drink has 50mg max EACH so it doesn't even come close to the 'limit'.

I've only had 1 experience with a car seat in my car, and it was a toddler-sized car seat. No issues with fitting it in there, DH was able to get his passenger seat all the way back the way he likes it without the seat touching the carseat/toddler's legs. Not sure about the infant seat though, as far as size comparisons go. We've gotta get the one from my brother and SIL and get it installed to find out how it fits...

I'm realizing the difference is probably in the carseat not the car. I registered for the Graco Safeseat since you can use it longer than the Snugride. But it's also bigger. I never even thought about it fitting when I registered! Duh.

roberta So glad to hear that you are back home! Hope everything continues to stay nice and quiet for you.

ellidew Great pics - you totally ARE glowing!!

ppwgal Yikes! Sorry about the rude guy at Starbucks. Man, I would have given him a piece of my mind. Sorry also about the carseat. I didn't realize that the Snugride and Safeseat had such different dimensions.

PSA Speaking of carseats, I heard this morning on the news that Britax has recalled their Companion infant car seat. FYI, just in case any of you plan to use that one.

Things are quiet on my end. Got some more tasks accomplished around the house over the weekend. Hospital bag is packed and the next big thing is to get the car seat installed. I am hoping to be able to take pictures of the finished nursery this weekend as well. Fingers crossed!!

Lilla- You had a productive weekend! We’re you as pooped out on Monday as I was? I need to pack our hospital bag this weekend but I need to get out and pick up the things I need which I plan to do either Wed afternoon or Friday afternoon since I only work until 12:30 on those days. We installed our carseats about 2 weeks ago and I was annoyed at the person at the fire dept when I called to schedule a safety check… it’s like I’m the only person that has ever called. I’m calling a different district because that one rubbed me the wrong way.

Ppwgal- Ugh, what a nightmare at Starbucks. I totally would’ve said something. As a matter of fact it’s sad but I’ve been on standby with something to say from the beginning. Luckily I haven’t needed to say anything but I’m ready. Dh’s cousins wife had a similar experience at Starbucks but not with a worker. Instead an annoying teenager gave her a mouthful about how caffeine causes ADHD and how he wouldn’t be so hyper if his mom hadn’t had so much when she was pregnant, right… She gave him a nice mouthful back I’m sure. Sorry that the carseat is a problem. I do know that they don’t all fit in all cars. When we installed ours it had to go behind the passenger seat and the passenger seat is about 6 inches forward from where it usually is though I usually have it set all the way back. It’s liveable for 6-12 months. I hope you figure something out!

Rancid- Feeling better? I hope so! The second I got over morning sickness I came down with a cold and it was wretched! I’d hate to be sick this far along so I hope you are feeling better! Did you hear back from the ob’s office? It sounds like the NST’s are a pain in the butt but at least you consistently know that everything is okay! I’d love to have daily nst’s just so I knew Miles was okay. I’m a worry wart though ;)

Katnbug- Ugh, I hope your dh is feeling better! I can just envision my dh home sick and me with the baby like I’m supposed to take care of both of them. Lol. I hope you sent him off to the bedroom! Lol. I hope you enjoyed your alone time and shopping!

Sinclair- That’s a funny story about the apple orchard! I guess it’s not everyday you see 4 pregnant ladies together. I hope you had fun! I love apple picking and can’t wait to have Miles to take next year. Good luck at your appt on Thursday!

Catgirl- LOL. It’s funny how you talk to people online and you give them faces in your mind. I’m definitely a blonde though. Lol. I hope my kids end up with dh’s coloring. I posted a link in my journal to some pics of dh and me, he gets VERY dark in the summer time. He has a mediterranean complexion. We didn’t spend much time outside this summer because we were working so hard IN the house so the pics of him are actually of him pale! Compared to me he’s dark! Lol.

Peaches- I love fall so the leaves were perfect! In hindsight I guess I should’ve worn a fall color to blend in. We’re definitely close though! That’s so great that the baby is head down!! I can’t wait to find out if mine is. I’m such a dope I forgot to ask last week. I’m sorry you are ‘feeling huge’ but you’re not alone. I feel huge too and for the first time yesterday I thought to myself ‘I can’t wait to have my body back to myself!’ Don’t get me wrong, I love being pg but it was more fun when I was still functional ;) I hope you get good news about the sugar in your urine. Be sure to post an update! I’m jealous of your birthing pool and even more jealous of your 3 day work week. I told dh that I just need a break to catch up! I might only make it to Nov 1 rather than when the baby arrives. Just dragging myself out of bed in the morning is almost unbearable. I hope they find a temp for your position soon!

Update: Nothing much to update here. I feel VERY preggo and I’ve definitely reached the uncomfortable and sometimes down right painful stage. Our family room is in the basement and I’ve resorted to watching tv in the bedroom on the main level so I don’t have to get down or back up the stairs! For the first time yesterday I thought to myself ‘I can’t wait to have my body back!’ Of course the tradeoff is a little baby boy so what I wish for isn’t all bad! Lol.

Today marks 36 weeks!! Which means tomorrow the countdown officially starts with a 3! Holy crap, a 3! Lol. I think about it and it registers but then I say it out loud or write it down and it’s dumbfounding! ACK! We’re mostly prepared. The carseat in my car is installed and dh put his in over the weekend to make sure it works and then removed it since he doesn’t need it in there yet. It’s a rear facing convertible carseat and it’s our extra so I doubt we use it in the first couple of months. I called our fire district yesterday about a safety seat check and the woman talked to me like I was the only person in history to ever call about it. I got really annoyed and I’ve decided to call a different fire district. Don’t other people get their safety seats checked?!?

I need to pack my hospital bag still. I have a half day on Wed and Fri of this week and I still need to pick up a few things like some nursing tanks, a pair of shorts or capris to sleep in once were home, a nightgown and robe, Spaceballs on dvd, okay so that probably just threw a few of you through a loop… whenever Miles pokes way out of the belly I always have the urge to break out into song like the frog that comes out of the stomach in the diner and dances on the counter. ‘Hello my baby, hello my darling, hello my rag time gal…’ We’ve gotten a good laugh about it a couple of times so we’re going to take the movie to the hospital with us to watch. I think we might need a good laugh at some point along the way ;) I need to get a few other things but I should have the bag packed by Friday night or at the latest the end of the weekend.

Tomorrow is my next appointment and I don’t expect anything exciting to come of it but we’ll see. Last night my jaw was really hurting and I noticed I was clenching it a lot and I was wondering it maybe it was a little swollen. This morning my wedding rings didn’t fit very well, I forced them on anyway but now I can’t get them off. I’m such a dumby! Lol. I wouldn’t be too surprised to find out my bp is elevated but it could just be because yesterday was such an awful day so by tomorrow hopefully everything is alright.

I hope everyone is feeling well and as anxious and excited as I am!!

caffeine police I have had a couple of encounters already with the caffeine police. It's rude and annoying.

Sorry about no SO's but I have been just dead-tired. Is anyone feeling that? I have not really been getting a great night sleep for the last few nights, so I thought that that was the cause of it. But I thought I had an ok night last night sleepwise but I still feel like I could pass out right now.

Odd though... when I am at home, I am not able to sleep. I always feel like that there is a million things to do and I am running around constantly.

My due date was also officially changed by my doctor to 11/19. We were never sure of it before but she finally decided. So I am actually 34 weeks pregnant now.

I am feeling every week of that 34 weeks. I am so tired now, more exhausted than I was with my first pg. I am also so under prepared.

Oh well...off to nap in the ladies bathroom.

You just described me to a T. It doesn't help that I had my BFing class last night and it didn't get over until 9:30pm and I had to give SIL a ride home after. My normal weekday bedtime is 9pm. I'm sooooo tired. I fell asleep at work yesterday, with my head on my desk. I have another NST appt this afternoon, then childbirth class tomorrow night...will this exhaustion never end?!

ellidew LOL! I'm always dead tired when Monday rolls around because of doing so many things over the weekend. One more Monday at work.....one more Monday at work......

Franni I feel your pain. I feel like I'm back in the first trimester again because I'm so dang tired. I'm back to my old trick of closing my office door and napping for about 30 minutes each afternoon. :o

Rancid Oh, I hated that about the classes that I had during the week - they ended so dang late! I'd get home and go straight to bed. How much longer do your classes run?

We have the childbirth classes for the next 4 Wednesdays...that one gets over at 9pm though, so at least it ends a little earlier than the others. I have a postpartum class on the 26th, a baby care basics class on the 30th and baby saver on Nov 14th (a little close to my EDD, but they had to reschedule due to a cancelled session)...the other classes are all from 7-9:30pm. Guess I'll just suck it up and deal with it, LOL. :)

Can I join the exhausted gang? We're having major sleep issues with DD and I'm about at the end of my rope. She had her 2 year Ped appt today and he thinks she's either experiencing night terrors or confusional arousal (she wakes up screaming 3-5 times/night). We co-sleep, which is good b/c I can be right there to tend to her and don't have to get out of bed to do it, but it is super hard. It took me about 45 min to get her to nap when it usually takes 5 min. Last night it took over 2 hours to get her to sleep. She finally fell asleep at 9:15pm and woke up at 5:45am.

I seriously don't know what I'm going to do with a newborn who most likely won't sleep and a 2 year old who definitely has sleep issues. It's starting to depress me and I want this to be a happy time.

Sorry for no SO's... too tired, frustrated and blah.

I want in to the exhausted club! Like catgirl we're also having sleep troubles with DD although fortunately, she doesn't wake up screaming she just wakes up and talks/kicks her crib/plays for anywhere from 1-3 hours in the middle of the night. This coupled with her taking forever to fall asleep at night and then getting up super early some mornings has just about killed me since I'm up hearing all of her chatter and can't quite fall asleep if I can still hear her (monitor or not, I just know when she's up). It doesn't help that I myself can't sleep because I'm so uncomfortable with back pain and have indigestion. Rancid you asked if the exhaustion ever goes away and I'm just not sure it does until they head off to college (when you lie awake wondering if they're doing the same stupid things you did in college.) :)

I even called her pediatrician this morning to see if there was anything they could recommend to get her back on track and they just told me that this was normal almost 2 year old behavior and to let her figure it out. That's all well and good if you don't have a newborn on the way with their own erratic sleep issues. Ugh.

I have my 34 week appointment tomorrow and am wondering when they're going to do the GBS and NST since no one has really talked about it yet. I didn't make it to my 36 week appointment with DD so anything beyond the 34 week one will just be a surprise. ;)

Oh, and to answer the blah question from a few days ago...I've definitely felt less than enthusiastic this pregnancy than I did the last time. It's like everything is magnified (stress, hormones, exhaustion etc) and it's hard to be super happy or excited about anything when I'm just so tired and tired of feeling physically incapable of getting around easily. I feel like "dead weight" 1/2 the day and am really looking forward to feeling somewhat normal again in a few weeks (okay, months but I can dream it will be weeks when I feel like myself again right?). I also feel somewhat unprepared for the arrival of the second child in terms of "stuff" and scheduling but I figure it will all come back to me when I need it and we'll just make do with DD's stuff that worked fine for her.

Off to nap for a bit before she gets up from her nap. Housework is just going to have to wait today!

DH was playing in a softball tourney this weekend (surprise, surprise--he plays 2-3 weekends a month from April-Oct :rolleyes:). He was playing on a team that he normally doesn't play with and the tourney was here in town, so I went out Saturday evening to watch a game. He was sliding into 2nd and caught the bag wrong. When he stood up I thought he must have knocked his shoulder out of joint by the way he was holding it. He finished out that game and played another one after that. When he got home, it looked and felt like there was a golf ball on his bicep, but he said it wasn't that painful.

Sunday he played another game, then kept ice on it most of the day. It was turning some pretty shades of blue/green.

Yesterday he went and saw an athletic trainer. He pulled up his shirt sleeve and the trainer immediately said, "Let me go grab the sports doc before he leaves." The doctor saw it and went to grab another doc who is a surgeon. They think he tore the long head of his bicep. He's scheduled for an xray tomorrow morning (to see if there's more damage) then for surgery. He'll have a scar from his collar bone to his bicep.

He's really freaked out--he broke his leg at 2, but other than that, a cavity is the most he's ever had wrong with him. He's worried about the anthesia, the actual surgery, the rehab and recovery etc...

My concerns--I'm due in 3 1/2 weeks--will he be able to lift the baby? What kind of rehab will it take? How long til he's back to 100% etc.

Luckily I know the trainer he saw, so I plan to call and ask a couple of questions this morning, then I'll ask the doc more tomorrow.

I had a talk with Corbin last night--he's not allowed to come this weekend--my mom and brother are both out of town and C will probably still be drugged up. Let's hope he listens! I can't have two babies to take care of! ;-) Gotta love shelling out $1000 deductible right before the baby's born!

ETA: I will admit, in my darkest moments when I feel like it's me vs the other woman (softball) I have wished for a season ending injury. I guess I needed to be more specific and wish for it *during* the season, not at the last tourney of the year right before the baby is due! ;)

doc appt--Looking forward to my doc appt on Thursday--they'll see if anything is happening yet! I def feel like I've started to drop--DH even commented last night that I look lower.

child classes--We had the *best* child class last night--it was Care for the Newborn. It went over practical things--how to clean the cord, give a bath, swaddle, change diapers etc. I know it sounds really basic, but it was great information that I really think we'll be able to use!

Sorry no s/o's right now, I'm working on updating my resume. I really hope to be able to apply for a faculty job, but they won't be announced until early Dec with a Jan deadline, so I'd like to have as much of the application done now as possible.

Had my first OB appt today with one of the "other" doctors. I haven't posted much lately but I have been suffering from extreme back pain. So bad that I can't go anywhere if I don't have someone to help me with DD. I have been taking (under doc's orders) about 3000 mg of Tylenol a day and she actually recommended a dose of Advil and hot baths. Problem is, my belly doesn't even get covered when I lay in the tub so I'm cold most of the time. LOL!

So the other OB agrees with my "primary" OB that if at my next appt (Tuesday the 17th) I am at all dilated or softened, I can be induced when I reach 38 weeks.

I'm so tired.

catgirl & Brio Do our DCs have ESP or something? It seems like they know that something is up. DD has been having weird sleep issues, not really horrible, but just odd for her. I thought for us it might be a change in caregivers, but the new nanny has been with us for 3 weeks now.

The other day she fought naptime so ferociously that we didn't let her nap anymore.

I am not looking forward to having a newborn and a toddler with sleep issues also.

Oooh, that's scary! I'm glad to hear it's not something more serious, but sorry to hear that he needs surgery to repair it. My DH hurt his shoulder a couple years ago lifting too-heavy weights at the gym. :rolleyes: He ended up needing to have surgery on it in early 2005 (right after we'd moved into our condo) to repair a ligament. He was freaked out also by having to get the survery as he'd never broken anything either, or been under more medication than needed for a root canal. It went flawlessly, and he recovered at home in bed and on the couch for several days after.

I did have to help him with lot of things as he was in quite a bit of pain and couldn't move his arm to use it (the doc had strapped it across his chest). I'd say your DH should be able to at least hold the baby with 1 arm, assuming you trust him to do so...DS won't weigh more than 10lbs for those first few months (I hope for your sake!) and it's pretty easy to lift up to 10lbs with only one arm, especially for a guy.

Rehab might take the better part of 6 mos to a year depending on how often he sees a sports medicine/rehab person and how good he is with doing at-home extercises that the doc gives him to do. My DH took longer than normal to get back to feeling better, because he kept flaking on his appts and on doing his at-home exercises/stretches. He says he still gets phantom pains in his shoulder...

Lydia~ Sorry to hear about your back pain, ouch! Is there anything else that the doc recommended for you to help ease it, like use a heat pack or make DH give you a massage every pm?? :)

Franni/catgirl/brio/anyone else with a DC~I can't even begin to imagine being pregnant while having a toddler running around. You guys must be even more exhausted than I am, it makes me feel awful for complaining about my tiredness when you've got so much more going on that's keeping you from being able to rest. My hat's off to all of you!! :eek:

I don't know if everyone is the same, but I had my GBS at 35 weeks and my first NST at 36 weeks.

catgirl, brio & franni- Must be something in the air. While DS is doing better at night (he actually slept through the night in his own bed 3 nights in a row!:)), he is fighting his naps like crazy! I usually give up after about 1/2 hour of trying. It's frustrating because I've been so tired lately that I want to nap when he does... no nap for him... no nap for me. :(

sinclair- Yikes! Sorry to hear about your DH's injury. That is really bad timing with the baby coming so soon. Hopefully he gets through the surgery ok and has a speedy recovery.

lydia- Sorry your backpain is so bad. I hear you about trying to take a bath... it just doesn't work for me any more. Looks like you may be having an October baby too though!! :)

Anyone want to join my irritable, crabby club?!

Oh yeah, i'm definitely a member of that club. It probably would've been better if i'd just stayed in bed all day yesterday with the covers over my head! Seriously, the thought of having to interact with people was enough to send me over the edge... the act of actually interacting took everything i had. I hope i wasn't mean to anyone.

I'm exhausted and tired too and i honestly don't know how those of you with dc's are doing it. I'll be in your shoes someday and i guess you just do it like everyone else... one food in front of another.

We're almost done ladies!! Just hang in there a bit longer. It sounds like we're going to start seeing some november babies VERY soon and hopefully that will make time go by faster! I'm pleased as punch to say i only have 4 weeks to my due date!

I've personally decided on a 'sit on the couch and do nothing' policy for my house and i highly recommend it to everyone! lol.

rancid-thanks for the info--it's so nice to hear someone who has gone through it. DH is also a big weight lifter, so I know taking time off at the gym will be hard for him. I'll feel so much better tomorrow when I know something more!

Cranky club-I think I'm up for VP. I usually have an upbeat attitude, but lately everything annoys me--my dogs, coworkers, any song on the radio. I'm really trying to enjoy this last part of my pregnancy where it's just me and him, but I'm also so ready to meet him!

Okay, ellidew, I know you meant to write one FOOT in front of the other, but I seriously feel like that's how I'm managing this pregnancy: one FOOD in front of the other. You know: quiche, muffin, caramel apple, mac'n'cheese, etc. :rolleyes: :p

BethIrish - I hope hubby knows enough to keep on your good side during this time! From everything I've heard, feeling b!tchy is totally normal right about now. I get it in waves. If I can avoid talking to my parents, it's definitely better.

katnbug - I can't BELIEVE how close you are!! Congrats on DS sleeping in his bed so well, even if naps are still a challenge.

rancid - You are hooked UP with all those classes! How did you find them? All through your hospital? Glad to hear your cold is on its way out!

Franni - I can't remember what your original due date was - did they bump it up sooner or push it back? Sorry to hear that DD's sleep situation is out of whack. Hope she evens back out soon.

lydia - Oh, ick about your back pain! So sorry to hear that! Maybe baby will be out and you'll be feeling better sooner than you thought.

sinclair - That description of your DH's injury is just horrifying! I think it's perfectly natural to be just as concerned about how his surgery is going to work with new baby time as you are about his well-being. Hopefully it will go smoothly and he will be able to help you out as much as possible.

brio - My GBS is scheduled for 36w and I haven't heard a peep about a NST. I thought they weren't standard unless you were overdue? :confused:

catgirl - I imagine it must break your heart to think the DD is having nightmares! I hope her sleep patterns get better soon!

roberta - So glad that everything turned out okay after your scare. Hang in there, baby!

************************************************** ********

Not much to report here, thankfully. Last week's appointment was pretty standard. I was a little shocked to learn that I've gained 31 POUNDS but the CNM didn't seem concerned so I guess it's within normal range. My next appointment is 10/19.

Even though I don't get by to post much, I am faithfully reading along and sending good wishes to everyone. I'm going to OH to visit family this weekend, and my SIL will be taking maternity shots of me. I'll post when I get back.

rancid - You are hooked UP with all those classes! How did you find them? All through your hospital? Glad to hear your cold is on its way out!

The classes are all offered thru my hospital. At my first ob appt way back when, I was given a packet with a pamplet that contained all the class info that the hospital offered. My ob advised me to sign up by month 4 to make sure I got all the classes done in time. I sent in the paperwork around month 3 and still managed to snag a couple of classes that were within a week of my due date. I was able to get those changed to earlier classes, and due to a class being cancelled then rescheduled, now I have my last class (Baby Saver~with cpr and stuff) ~2 weeks prior to my EDD rather than the 1 month prior that I would have preferred.

Ellidew/Bijouparvin~ Stop it already! You guys are making me hungry with all this food talk!!:D As if it weren't bad enough that I had chocolate cake after lunch (it was my 'prior to NST appt snack to wake the baby up'), but I know DH ordered pizza for dinner and it will be there when I walk in the door. Now I want cookies and candy bars (which I keep stocked up on at home), and a caramel apple sounds delish but I don't know where I'd find one on short notice. ;)

GSB~ What is it?? I've been going to NST appts twice weekly for the last 2 weeks because my doc is convinced that I have high bp :rolleyes: and everything has looked fine on the graphs and the u/s's with regards to baby's hb, movements, fluid, etc. But I haven't heard anything about a GSB yet, my next ob appt isn't until Friday morning.

crabby and irritable - that's me. I actually kicked the freezer case at Safeway the other day because they were out of whole-wheat Eggo waffles.

One food in front of the other - I have been out. of. CONTROL! I gained a pound and a half this weekend. We had my shower, and of course the host send all the food home with us. It's been cake, donuts, cookies, etc. all the time for me. I need to get a grip.

sinclair - So sorry to hear about your DH's injury/upcoming surgery!

caffeine police - I swear, if someone gave me crap at Starbucks, I might have to kill them. I have about one caffeinated beverage a week, often a Pumpkin Spice Latte at this point, and I look forward to it with an unhealthy longing.

As I mentioned above, my shower was this weekend. It was laid-back and nice. My parents were in town, and my mom and I made the trek to Target (it's 70 miles away - I really live in the boonies) to buy things like breast pads, a hamper and trash can for the baby's room, pajamas for me, etc.

Here's an irritation - the carseat we registered for was purchased off the registry almost a month ago, and we still have not received it. Obviously, I thought we would get it at the shower. Nope. I'll be 36 weeks on Friday, I'll have my version at 37 weeks, and if necessary, the c-section at 39 weeks. Needless to say, WE NEED THE CARSEAT! Oh, and something is funky with the BRU site, and none of the carseats we would consider are available to order online, and of course we don't live anywhere near a BRU. Luckily, we have a carseat my mom got from a neighbor, but I'm not wild about using a used carseat, even if she swears up and down it's never been in an accident. I guess it's a good thing we have it, though, just in case.

bijouparvin
10-10-2006, 04:52 PM
mimieliza - That's got to be so frustrating about the carseat! Are you sure your mom didn't get it on the sly and is about to give it to you? We're using a friend's carseat, if that's any comfort.

rancid - Re: finding an apple on short notice...Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory on 2nd St. in LB. They have all sorts of fancy chocolate ones, but I've always been a purist when it comes to the caramel apple. I know you're in Los Al, but a craving is a craving and it's SO worth it to drive the extra little bit. Mmm mmm mmm!!

Hoooly moly, I'm so far behind it ain't even funny! :p Life's been super duper busy with the new house [we have our final walk through on Monday and then we close the following Monday after that...] - not to mention, I have been training my replacement for when I go on maternity leave. And then on top of that, I'm trying to do my own workload which seems to pile up like there's no tomorrow. Bah. What did I do to deserve such a thing? :o

But yeah - I'm still here. Still pregnant. I'm 36 weeks today so not too much longer! I'm just about ready, but I definitely can wait as I'd love for baby girl to bake in there a tad bit longer. Sometime after 38 weeks would be nice. I'll be on maternity leave then and I won't constantly fear that my water will break at work or God forbid, on the freeway. Ack. :eek:

I hope you are all doing well, though. Sorry to hear about all of the intracacies you all are having due to pregnancy. If only we could all have textbook pregnancies, right? That'd be nice. Unfortunately, I've been blessed with really bad pelvic pressure and constipation almost on the daily. Ugh. So. Not. Fun. I cannot wait to get have my old body back. :p

Other than that, nothing too much to report on my end. At my last Dr's appointment last Monday, everything looked good. I only gained a lb. which keeps me at a total weight gain of 19 lbs! Baby girl did well on the NST - no contractions, just an active baby!

My next appointment is Oct. 16th with NST and GBS! After that, I will be going in on a weekly basis. Yikes!

Rancid - a GBS [Group B strep] is a test that your Dr. will perform around the 35 - 37 week mark to see if you test positive for Strep. You can find more info here: Group B Strep (http://www.americanpregnancy.org/pregnancycomplications/groupbstrepinfection.html)

Can you come to our house next? ;)
I wish! At least it would give me something productive to do. I am so much better when we are out of the house and accomplishing anything!

We're all very lucky that we've made it so far without major issues.
Seriously!!! It is amazing we have not had any extremely early deliveries!!! This is wonderful that we have all made it past 32 weeks. :) There are several of us in the 32nd week, but everyone else is farther along. What a fortunate group we have!

Unfortunately, I am mother having sleep issues with my DC. :( She STTN fairly well, but her naps are irregular and do not happen daily. The key for us has been to get her really exhausted at a playdate or the playgroung and hope she falls asleep on the ride home. I can then transfer her to bed and pray for at least an hour longer of a nap. Today, I tried my theory and of course, it failed miserably- she didn't fall asleep in the car and therefor did not sleep in her bed. Ay, yi, yi! Luckily, she is now asleep in her bed for the night and I hope not to hear a peep for 11 hours- fingers crossed!

Cranky Club?~ If you need a mascot, I am your woman! I am the epitomy of crankiness, and spend all day hiding it from my friends. :o Inside I am irratible and annoyed, on the outside, I carry on regular conversations and attempt to be pleasant. By night time, the charade is over and I am just my cranky old self all over again. It doesn't help that DH is traveling for work and I am stuck caring for a toddler by myself. :eek: Too much work for a mama this far along.

ETA: So excited! Just 41 days until my c/s!!! I am so ready to meet this child of ours. :)

Holy cow this thread moves fast.

Add me to all the clubs that have been mentioned. I am so freaking pissy about everything its not funny. DH and I are going at it a lot lately. And here it is almost 9:30 and my DS1 is still awake. Gotta love it. :rolleyes:

I had to take back the first stroller I got and buy a new one today. So on top of the over $300 I spent Saturday I spent another $260 today. I am so glad that I got my student loan refund at the end of last month so I have the extra money to spend.

Oh and someone asked, sorry I can't remember who, I am currently in the elementary education program. I still have quite a few years to go. And because I am only taking 2 or 3 classes at a time it will take even longer.

Wesley Frederick arrived October 10th at 2:37 pm via emergency c-section. He was 5lbs 1oz and 17 3/4 in. Mom and baby are doing just fine. Mom will be in hospital until Friday and we don't know when Wes can join us at home just yet.

WOW!! Congratulations Roberta & welcome to Wesley!! How exciting! So glad to hear you & he are doing well. :D Yay! Our first baby!

Reading the mssg about Roberta's baby brought tears to my eyes... can you tell I'm hormonal? I seriously cry several times per year and now look at me.

I'm sorry to hear about other RO's who are having toddler sleep issues. This is such a hard stage. Hopefully it'll pass for all of us soon.

I am currently working on getting our new thread started since babies are arriving. I am in the process of changing some of the stats around so please make sure that you double check them once I get the thread posted. (I am hoping for sometime in the next hour.) I will post again once I get it up and running.

Thanks ~ Kadee
