Cute outfits ladies! mimieliza, where'd you get yours from? I love the owl and fall leaves!
kadee- Congrats on passing the premature labor date. I bet that IS an amazing feeling! I hope the rest of your pg goes smoothly and you never see bedrest for even a minute!
Belly Button- Nope, i'd be surprised if it ever does! I seriously have a deep belly button. Dh's is more shallow than mine is still! Instead of the belly popping out through shirts i have the belly button hollow space through shirts.
Weekend Plans- Our weekend plans consist mostly of working on the house. We need to paint and put up the trim in the nursery, finish the wall mural, put up the wallies, paint and put new shelving in the closet, buy and install a ceiling fan/light fixture, and hopefully go looking for a bookshelf and something to serve as a changing table. Dh has some family in from out of town so we are doing brunch with them on Sunday. We have baseball tickets on Saturday night. Other than that we are free to do what we want. Dh actually has a full 3 days off of work too so i'm looking forward to spending the time with him.
Oh, i almost forgot to mention... TODAY IS 30 WEEKS!
I think we're on a roll this week ordering stuff. We ordered the
Graco Metropolitan Car Seat:http://www.babyage.com/icons/localhost/products/medium/M-8649mtr2.jpg
to match our Peg Perego P3 Stroller:
http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/albee-baby_1909_122529881
We still need a million other things but we're getting there. The babies room isn't even started yet. The room is filled with DH's crap and will probably stay that way for 2-3 more weeks. We live in an apartment anyway so we aren't doing too much to the room to begin with.
Also, I slept last night and I can not tell how how much better I feel today!
Back for replies in a bit.

ellidew - Thanks! I got it on Ebay, but it's a Gymboree outfit from last fall.
nic - We just spent last weekend cleaning all the crap out of the baby's room. It was scary how much junk we had in there.
Cannot believe I'll be 30 weeks on Friday. :eek:
Have I mentioned how much I love Craigslist? I got a Peg Perego P3 that's a year old for $75. Woo hoo! So far, CL finds include:
-Brand new BOB Revolution stroller
-9 Kissaluv newborn diapers and covers
-Ocean Wonders cradle swing
-Brand new fancy-schmancy Gymini for $20!
-Jumperoo
We don't have very many large items left to get - just the co-sleeper and the carseat, which we want to buy new. Oh, and a monitor.

Go you mimieliza! Great finds! I haven't checked craigs list in my area, maybe i should!
Monitors- Do you need a monitor if your ground floor is only 950 sq. feet? We have our main level with the bedrooms and then we have about 500-600 sq feet finished in the basement. Do we really need a monitor? Miles crib is literally 5 steps from our bed in the next bedroom over. Just curious what you all think.

We went for our hospital tour last night- it was quite informative, however, having been in the assessment area last week, I knew about the first 1/3 of the tour. We went through checking in, the assessment area, delivery rooms, post partum ward and all the practices that go along with it. Then we talked about all the things you should bring that aren't on the list the hospital gives you and the good places to park. The nurse showed us how to install a car seat in the car and little tips and tricks for brand new babies. I was surprised at how accommodating the hospital is. They have soaker tubs with jets, big showers, big cushy beds, dimmed lights, cd players, and the hospital nurses all practice relaxation massage and aromatherapy techniques to assist with labour. It really soothed a lot of my worries.
Following the theme of medical stuff….
I had my ultrasound at 12:30 and there was a problem with the equipment so I had to wait even longer. They wouldn't reveal any results so I have to wait until tomorrow morning. Then I popped across the street to the medical lab and had my GTT. The drink wasn't bad and the woman said drink it as fast as you can, so I guzzled it in a few sips. She laughed and then said it had to be drank within 10 minutes. Hee Hee.
So now I just wait for results.

Lots of waiting Sare. I hope you find out all good results. Stupid medical equipment! lol. Your hospital tour sounds like it went great. Ours was wonderful too.
It's funny that you talk about the good parking spots... our hospital has free valet parking! As far as i'm concerned we're pulling up at the front doors and that's that. lol.

There's a shirt on Cafepress.com that says:
http://images.cafepress.com/product/57329005v1_150x150_F.jpg
Yes, I'm pregnant. It's a boy. I'm due in November.
Can you tell I work in education and the teachers and students have come back and are surprised to see me like this!
I want it!!! ;)
Sinclair- cute shirt! I think we should all wear one of those every day to avoid the questions.
Sare- sorry that you have to go through all of the waiting again.
mimieliza- great finds!
nic- cute stroller and car seat! glad you finally got some sleep.
kadee- congrats on passing your preterm dates! cute outfits!
bijouparvin - cute nursery!
Holiday Plans- my MOH is coming into to town for the weekend. We are also going to get to see another couple of friends who are in town as well. Other than that, we have nothing much planned.
Belly Button - Mine is flat. It never popped out.
Craving Ice - I eat ice all.day.long.
bikini waxes - I had laser hair removal, so I don't need to worry about shaving or waxing. I do have to trim up the hair that is still there though, and that is really difficult to do.
Coming Home Outfit - I bought several outfits a few months ago when I stumbled on a sale at Janie and Jack. I have not chosen one as a coming home outfit.
acid reflux update- I had a dr. appointment today. I asked if I could be given anything stronger for the acid reflux )I am currently taking 2 150 mg Zantac daily) and they told me no.
Honestly, it is really upsetting to me that other people have doctors who are willing to treat them, to help them feel better while I have to just suffer. The doctor literally said to me "only 9 more weeks". I barely sleep anymore, and forget sleeping in my own bed. I sleep on the couch, sitting up, every night. Last night I slept with a garbage pail next to the couch bc I woke up several times on the edge of vomiting. I have constant pressure in my throat, and a burning sensation at least every half an hour. I can't bend over or lay down. And she tells me "only 9 more weeks"?!?!?!
Sorry. I just had to vent about that.

I failed the 1 hour GTT and have to go back for the 3 hour. I'm not too happy about this, but trying not to worry.

coming home outfit This has been in the back of my mind. I have not bought anything yet. I think I'll wait to see what we get at our showers and go from there.
bikini waxes I've had them done before, but I always would take some ibuprofin before/after to help the pain. Now that I can't take that, I'm steering clear and doing my best to maintain things myself.
belly button Mine is still an innie, but it is starting to flatten out. I wonder if it will ever get totally flat. Like someone else here said - instead of the belly button bump you can see through a shirt, I have the belly button hole that you can see through a shirt. :)
weekend plans We have our first shower this weekend!! We are taking an extended weekend to fly up and visit my family and the shower will be Saturday. I can't wait!
Krysten- I'm sorry to hear your doctor is so dismissive about your medical issues.
Sare79- Try not to stress too much about the test. I failed the 1 hour too. When do you do for the 3 hour test?

Kyrsten, I'm so sorry that your doctor didn't offer any type of relief. It's pretty late in the game to change doctors. But, if you're planning to medicate during l&d are you concerned about your doctor okay'ing meds? I can totally relate to what you are going through, well not exactly. I'm still waiting for pre-approval of the Nexium my doctor prescribed and i'm miserable in the meantime. It totally sucks. Could you try a new medicine? Are pepcid and Zantac the same? Maybe try the pepcid... i've heard that some acid meds don't work for some people. Perhaps you can find relief with a different one. I hope you feel better and if it gets worse i'd call your doctor and INSIST that a prescription be written. It's your body and the risk you pose to you and your baby is your decision (imo). I still use the 'if the benefit outweighs the risk' saying. Do you have a pcp you can call and go over your ob's head? Being miserable for the next 9 weeks is no way to prepare for childbirth!
Sare- Sorry you didn't pass. Hopefully you will pass the 3 hour.
Lilla- Have fun at your shower!!! It's nice that you get to spend the long weekend with your family too. Enjoy it and have a great time. Can't wait to hear about it next week!!

Holy cow!! I just realized that i'm down to single digit weeks. :eek:
Not much new on this end. Dh and i don't typically have a free night at home together until Thursdays with him playing in a sand volleyball league on Mondays, Childbirth classes on Tuesday and dinner with his parents on Wed. So, we're just going through our routine waiting for a break.
We only have ONE childbirth class left next Tuesday then i guess we're prepared ;) Actually, the last childbirth class was last night and next weeks class is child care. What to do when we get home, interacting with the baby, baths, etc... I'm looking forward to that!
I totally didn't want to get out of bed this morning. I managed to only get up like 4 times last night and only needed tums once. The acid will keep me awake but a few tums usually knocks it down enough that i can fall asleep.
This kid has started to beat me up from the inside out! He has been so active in the last 3-4 days that i swear he isn't taking a break to sleep! lol. I know this is normal and it doesn't usually bother me until much later in the day when things start to feel bruised. I guess he's running out of room in there!
To anyone worried about their parents when the baby arrives in regards to how things have changed in the last 20-30 years... see if your hospital offers a grandparents class. The class our hospital offers is supposed to 'bridge the communication gap between the generations' talk about new trends and safety and take a tour of the maternity floor (same as we did) I signed both dh's mom and dad and my mom up for the class. I'm not so much worried about my mom since she has 3 grandkids but i'm hoping that the grandparents class will address things like buying used stuffed animals and safety stuff at garage sales. My MIL is notorious for this kind of thing. The other thing i want a third party to reiterate is putting the child on their back to sleep and NOT feeding them table foods or anything but breastmilk/formula. I don't want our kid getting fingertips of cool whip or icing. I emailed both sets of parents at the same time about the class so they saw that they were both invited. I was surprised to see my mom had responded and wanted to go. She said she wanted to see how the maternity floor had changed in the last 24 years since she delivered there! I need to call her tonight and tell her why she got the same email as dh's parents and let her know she doesn't just have to go because i invited her to. I'm hoping this WILL help with the communication gap between the generations. Dh's mom has already discussed bringing out his metal stroller and using it! ACK!

Our hospital has one of those classes too, and I am encouraging my mom and MIL to attend. My mom has a grandson already and knows some of the stuff, but I want MIL to hear what has changed since she had babies. I have had my jaw drop a few times over things she has said like having stuffed animals in the crib to keep her company, plenty of blankets over her will take the chill away, sleeping on the tummy, mushing up our veggies from dinner to give to her (MIL cooks with a ton of salt and butter). :eek:

If you're having a boy... Have you decided for or against circumcision and how did you come to your decision? Dh and i can't decide. I've heard and read about both sides of the coin and both sides can argue a valuable point. Part of me says that our baby came out one way and to change him is just cruel. Also, the risk of possible infection and further complications makes me worry about it. I've heard that the chance of penile cancer goes up (a good point to circumcise) but then i heard it only increases by something like 1%. It sounds like a good reason unless you add the statistic in (which could be wrong but that's what we were told in class last night). I don't have any statistics on UTI's in uncirc'd males but i know the numbers go up. I'm just not sure the risks outweigh the benefits, does that make sense? Not to mention, what i saw last night in regards to cicumcising was absolutely awful. I'm torn. I plan to ask our pediatrician but i think the split is so 50/50 and that it's a crap shoot. Fwiw, i've read the threads on circumcising and i'm still split! Dh and i also think the argument that the child will/may look different than his peers is not a good one and we're still trying to figure out why the boys are looking at each other anyway. I asked dh flat out 'am i missing something or did you share how your penis looked with your classmates?' He laughed and said that he absolutely did not :)
ETA: I confused my stats on penile cancer with the UTI stat. I just pulled this off of the american academy of peiatrics website: (http://www.aap.org/advocacy/archives/marcircum.htm) It's from a release in 1999. I'm looking for more current information.
Urinary Tract Infections
Although studies show the relative risk of developing a urinary tract infection (UTI) in the first year of life is higher for baby boys who are uncircumcised, the AAP policy concludes that their absolute risk of developing one is low ¾ at most approximately 1 percent. Research indicates that during the first year of life an uncircumcised male infant has at most about a 1 in 100 chance of developing a UTI, while a circumcised male has about a 1 in 1000 chance.
Penile Cancer
Studies conclude that the risk of an uncircumcised man developing penile cancer is more than three-fold that of a circumcised man. However, the AAP policy notes that in the United States only 9 to 10 cases of this rare disease are diagnosed per year per 1 million men, indicating that while the risk is higher for uncircumcised men, their overall risk is extremely low.
Complications
Research suggests that circumcision is generally a safe procedure. Complications occur in 1 in 200 to 1 in 500 circumcised newborn males and are most often minor; the two most common are mild bleeding and local infection.
This is a really hard decision for me and i may not be able to make a decision until we are presented with the question at the hospital. Dh is torn too.

Sinclair- Great belly shots! You have rounded out quite a bit. I love the shirt you posted too! Now I want one.
Holiday Plans- I don't have anything planned right now. I would like to clean the carpets in the nursery, but there is still furniture in there that I need my Dad to move out. I hope to get him to move it this week sometime, but it isn't looking like that is going to happen. My crib and dresser are supposed to be here next week. I don't think he realizes he is holding up a hormonal pregnant woman from finishing her child's room - this could be a recipe for disaster :mad:.
Belly button- I don't think mine is going to pop out. I have the belly button hole that shows through shirts like other people have described.
mimieliza- I love the outfit you posted!
kadee- yay on passing the preterm labor dates!
ellidew- sounds like ya'll have a lot of stuff going on this weekend with just the work in the nursery! I don't think you would need a monitor. As of right now I don't plan on buying one. I figure in the beginning he isn't going to be very far from me most of the time and probably won't use it. Later on down the road I will probably get one when he naps in his crib and I am downstairs while he is upstairs.
nic- We bought the same carseat! I was very pleased that it matched our P3 stroller so well. I have the P3 in Anice.
kyrsten- I am sorry to hear that your Dr. is not willing to find a way to get you some relief. I agree that it is unacceptable for them to say only 9 more weeks! How hard did you press the issue with them? Sometimes I think Doctors are a little too conservative and you really have to beat into their brain that more needs to be done. The lack of sleep alone should be a major concern. I hope that you can get them to listen to you and can find something to help. Feel free to vent here all you want! We are here to offer support.
Lilla- have fun at your shower!
circumcision- After reading all the research and talking to the Pediatrician we have decided that we will not be doing the circumcision. At first DH said yeah he wanted to, but he hadn't read anything about it and had some misconceptions that it was cleaner. Our Pediatrician told us that there is a slight increase of UTI's, but that was not enough to recommend doing the procedure. A boy can be taught proper hygiene to help avoid this risk. I also watched a video of a circumcision and that made me even more against doing it. I just don't think it is necessary to put a baby through that if it just for cosmetic purposes. I figure if our son decides later in life that he wants to be circumcised he can make that choice - I don't feel I have the right to change his body, he should make that decision. With all that said I know that this is a very heated topic for some people. I do have strong feelings about it when it comes to my child, but I would never judge someone else's choice for their child. I just hope that everyone would make an informed decision.

Sinclair ~ I forgot to say great belly shots.
Kyrsten ~ I am so sorry your dr won’t give you anything stronger. I feel the same way about my ob. I hate how dismissive they can be about some things.
Sare ~ I am sorry about the GTT. Hopefully you pass the 3 hour with flying colors.
Lilla ~ Have fun at your shower.
Plans for the weekend ~ Nothing major here. I think we are going to work on cleaning up some of the house and getting it ready for the baby.
Belly button ~ Mine has never popped out. Like a few others here I have the hollow spot in my shirts.
Circumcision ~ DH and I talked about this with DS1. We were originally going to do it but after he was born he had breathing problems and my dr wanted to hold off on it. We never did it. He has never had any infections or problems at all. We decided with this one that we would leave him intact as well. It is a hard decision to make, just make sure you (general you) don’t let anyone influence your decision. It is something you and your husband need to decide.

circumsion DH and I haven't discussed this yet but he knows I am researching it and it is up for debate. I asked my sister (the med student) for some accurate, unbiased research. She sent me some medical links and journal articles. So if anyone wants to PM me with their email I can send you the info. There is a word doc and some pdfs.
belly button I had a very deep innie that was pierced. I removed the piercing at 5 months. I am glad I did because the area is streched out now. I still have a little 'lip' of an innie left, but I think it is going to even out and maybe pop.
bikini waxes I never was brave enough for a wax, but I do maintain. Unfotunately, the shower in our master bath is a stall and I just don't have enough room to manuver. So a couple times a week, I shower in the guest bath (regular tub) to do my maintenance.
weekend plans We are driving to Ohio for our showers and to see our families. A dinner at MIL 's on Friday, one shower on Saturday at FIL's and one shower on Sunday at my Mom's. Should be a fun but busy weekend!
coming home outfit nothing yet, I am waiting to see what we get at the showers.

circumcision - I feel pretty strongly that we leave our baby intact. DH was totally on board (after I gave him some literature to read) but is now waivering. Good friends of ours who had decided not to circ just went through a UTI with their 5 week old son. The procedures he had to endure in diagnosing the UTI were pretty horrible. After going through that they decided to circ. I think DH is waivering becasue of this, and also he can't get over the fact that an intact penis requires more care and cleaning than a circ'ed one. He wants to know "How much care? Is just washing it in the shower enough, or will he need to clean it throughout the day? What about before sex?" etc.
Anyone with an intact DH (or just more knowledge than I) want to comment on the hygine factor?
roberta
08-30-2006, 02:56 PM
My BIL-to-be (finacee of med student sister) is intact and I asked him a lot of questions. He was very open and answered honestly.
For an adolesent/adult male, they just need to clean it in the shower by pulling back the foreskin, washing, rinsing and putting the foreskin back. No other cleaning needed (ie- before sex, after urinating). Oh, he is also able to use condoms. (that was one of my questions)
RubberSoul
08-30-2006, 02:57 PM
CityGirl- I am no expert, but I dated a guy that was not circ'd. I never had a conversation about it with him, but as far as I know he just washed up in the shower. It was just a matter of taking the extra step of pulling the foreskin back and washing the area. From everything I have read about babies you don't have to even worry about that because the foreskin will not retract for a couple of years anyway. I really don't think there is a lot of extra care involved - seems like less work than when I shave my legs! I think that women have a lot more to do when it comes to grooming than guys do :).

Got a lot to catch up on...
We got in from our 4-day Mammoth/Yosemite trip last night around 9:30, got to bed around 11pm after unpacking and cleaning up a bit. I’m in need a really good nights' sleep, that's for sure! Did a lot of hiking and sightseeing, but no fishing (we just watched, LOL!!). Got to relax with the family, eat some yummy home-cooked meals. Saw a bear, several deer, a herd of about 100 elk, ate wild blackberries picked right off the bushes (it's been years since I've done that!!), and overall had a blast!!
I did pretty well considering the altitude (8K ft in town at Mammoth Lakes, 11K at the summit of Mammoth Mountain~yes took the gondola up there yesterday) and I'm almost 27w along. There were some times where I was huffing and puffing during our many hiking excursions, but so was everyone else, LOL. :D
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
How is everyone’s appetite? Some days I’m ravenous and can probably eat nonstop, other days I have to remind myself that it’s time for lunch or dinner even if I don’t feel hungry or much like eating. It’s really odd. I do snack in between meals, usually a piece of fruit, yogurt, cheese or fig newtons (I try to mix it up to keep myself interested).
Rubbersoul~ The nursery is looking great! The wallies are adorable, are those the ocean critters ones??
Ellidew~ How funny that the baby wouldn’t stay still so the nurse could get the heartbeat! My little one has always been very still at obgyn and u/s appts thus far, with minimal movement. And congrats on the weight gain. I feel like I gain 5lbs every time I think about food! That stinks about the heartburn issue, I don’t think I’ve ever had it but I hope I don’t get it. What’s the deal with the insurance co?? Geez, hopefully that will get worked out so they can stop bothering you about every tiny thing! Those Thanksgiving outfits are too cute, I love the colors!! I don’t know anything about buying baby clothes either, I haven’t bought anything yet and am scared to. So far a few friends and my mom have been buying stuff.
Nic~ Cute crib!! Sorry to hear about all the uncomfortableness…I’m a few weeks behind you but am currently dealing with it too. I hate feeling achy and uncomfortable all the time. I’m sure DH is getting tired of me asking him for a back/neck/foot/leg/belly rub constantly. Love the stroller/car seat set! That’s the stroller I want to get, same color and everything. Very simple and clean design.
The babies room isn't even started yet. The room is filled with DH's crap and will probably stay that way for 2-3 more weeks.
You took the words right out of my mouth! Except it will take my DH more like 2-3 months to clean out all his crap.
Katnbug~ Glad to hear you had a nice little vacation, spending time at a lake house sounds so relaxing!! :cool:
Has anyone else bought their coming home outfit? Nope. I’m scared to buy baby clothes because I know nothing about them. Perhaps in the coming months I’ll get over my anxiety and buy something already. Until then, I’m letting my friends and family buy little outfits to their hearts content (which they’ve done).
Are you getting kicked/punched in the cervix? I don’t think so…I feel all sorts of movements all over the place in there, but so far nothing painful. I get little pains/cramps every now and then but I don’t know if they’re from baby moving around in there, digestion issues, or just random pains from nothing in particular. They’re very few and far between though so it’s hard to tell where they originate before they’re gone again.
Anyone besides me get regular bikini waxes? No, I’ve actually never had one. I used to wax myself many years back but have stuck with trimming (with some once weekly bikini line shaving) for the last few years.
Bijouparvin~ The nursery looks so cute!! I’m loving the wall color A LOT. Adorable changing table and super cute growth chart!! It looks like everything is really coming together and looking really good so far!! (Including you, with your cutesy belly shot!)
Lydia~ Funny that you’re craving ice these days, not ice cream. At the very least the ice isn’t a high-calorie snack, LOL!! So crunch away!
I'm craving Pumpkin Pie and Apple Cider and Caramel Apples and Chili. Ooh, and cornbread!
Don’t take this the wrong way, but you suck!! Now I’m craving all those things and I don’t even like pumpkin pie or apple cider!! :p
I just want to say... If i was having a girl i would HAVE to have this. It's so cute!
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000FTI4X6.16._SCLZZZZZZZ_SS260_V66727911_.jpg
It's a boppy tummy time play pad. I couldn't find a boy themed one.
Ok, that is just plain adorable!! I saw on the back of a pg magazine (I think it was FitPregnancy?) an advertisement for an activity mat with palm trees, monkey, and tummy pillow. It was very cute, I’ll see if I can find it because I want to get it.
Sinclair~ Cute belly shots! You’re looking fantastic!!
Holiday plans~ None yet. I just realized today that Monday is a holiday (doh!). I’ll see if my family is planning anything (bbq, beach, etc) as hubby has to work that day. At the very least I’ll get in some nice relaxing.
Mimieliza~ Cute coming home outfit! I love the little owl with the big eyes!
Belly button~ Not yet, but I expect it to pop out sometime in the next month or so depending on how quickly my belly continues to grow. I had a very deep-set bb to begin with, but over the last few months it’s been getting shallower and shallower. It’s still very much an innie, but not as much as it once was.
Then I popped across the street to the medical lab and had my GTT. The drink wasn't bad and the woman said drink it as fast as you can, so I guzzled it in a few sips. She laughed and then said it had to be drank within 10 minutes. Hee Hee.
The same exact thing happened to me! I drank it in under 10 seconds b/c she said to drink it quickly. She laughed when I guzzled it down and said she meant it had to be drunk in 10 minutes max. LOL Your hospital sounds to die for!! I thought ours was posh, being in Newport Beach with harbor views in some of the rooms, valet parking, and a coffee shop & various eateries throughout, LOL!! I want a relaxation massage from my nurse and a big soaker tub!! Lucky! I just caught up to your post that said you didn’t pass the 1-hr GTT, I’m sorry to hear that and now have to take the 3-hr.
There's a shirt on Cafepress.com that says:
http://images.cafepress.com/product/57329005v1_150x150_F.jpg
Yes, I'm pregnant. It's a boy. I'm due in November.
Very cute! I love it!!!! :D
Circumcision~ We’re 100% sure we’re having our little one circumcised shortly after birth (that’s when they normally do it, right?). It’s really a non-issue for us…DH said that he wanted our boy to be circumcised and I went along with it because it sounds good to me. I don’t think it’s cruel at all, nor does DH. DH did mention that in jr high and high school some of the uncircumcised boys were teased by others in the locker room and he didn’t want our little guy going through any similar situation, no matter how wrong it is for kids to make fun of other kids like that. I don’t know of anyone (family, friends, etc) who didn’t circumcise their baby boy(s), it seems to be pretty much the norm around here from what I gather, and not for any religious reasons either.
katnbug
08-30-2006, 03:51 PM
circumcision- We also had our DS circ'd the day after he was born, while we were still in the hospital. Like Rancid, I didn't over-think it. It is pretty much the norm amongst people/friends/family that we know... at least the one's close enough to disclose this info! ;) DH was on board, and so was I. DS experienced no visual ill-effects from the procedure & it healed very quickly.
I think the decision to do it or not is a matter of personal preference. I think I read recently that more people are deciding not to circ. But I definitely don't think it's emotionally scarring or anything like that. And I don't consider my son "not" intact. He's perfectly whole in my book! :D
From everything I have read about babies you don't have to even worry about that because the foreskin will not retract for a couple of years anyway. Normally this is correct. DS1 has what I guess is called a "natural circumcision". I was able to pull his back from day one.
I do want to say here (and yes I know how stupid this is going to sound) but after you have the baby and are comfortable doing so, think about having a nurse come in and show you how to clean up the genital area. It doesn't matter if its a boy or girl. I was so afraid with both of my kids and had no idea how to clean the area that I found out I wasn't doing it right. Not a huge deal but something their dr mentioned at one of the first appts. She couldn't believe that none of the nurses came in to show me how to take care of them. Actually with DD after I had her that was it. The nurses rarely came in to do anything. DS spent time in the special care nursery so that might've had something to do with it but still.
kadee- That's great advice. We didn't get any instruction at the hospital, but our pediatrician made sure we were doing it correctly at our first visit. It may sound strange, but now that I'm used to cleaning DS down there I'm a little afraid of having to clean a girl!! I shouldn't be because I obviously know the parts - but it's not the same as a grown up. When I change my neice's diaper I'm always freaking out that I won't do it properly. Strange...
I'm definitely going to talk to the nurses at the hospital after Hilary is born - just to make sure. :)
kadee- Phew... thanks for reassuring me that it's okay to ask how to do it properly. Dh and i talked abou this the other night and he has NEVER changed a diaper and i've never changed a boy! I'm definitely going to need some instruction!
Rancid- Finally, the approved the Nexium. I had a message on the machine last night that stated my prescription was ready for pickup. (so i assume that means it was approved!) Here's hoping, i'm going to go pick it up in a little while.
Yay!!! That's great news! :D
Hi everyone! Sorry I haven't posted in a while but I've been reading along when I can. I'm behind on individual SO's as usual so I'm not even going to attempt it right now.
All the completed nurseries look adorable! We are still working on ours although we're not painting the room so it shouldn't take too long. This weekend we're going to look at more baby furniture so we'll see how it goes.
Not much new going on with me. I finally took the 1-hour glucose test this week so hopefully I'll pass that. It took me a while to drink it since I'm not use to sugary drinks but it wasn't as bad as I thought.
A few of my girlfriends have had their babies so it's making everything much more real and exciting. I have 3 more friends who deliver before me.
And I must say that I am super happy to finally be in the third trimester with the end in sight. I haven't had a difficult pregnancy but it hasn't been all roses either. I am really looking forward to NOT being pregnant and all the lovely symptoms that come along with it, including being tired all the time, indigestion, having a restricted diet, etc. I know some women really love being pregnant but I am definitely not one of them.
QOTDs:
circumsion: I am 99% sure we're going to do this. I've known men who have and haven't been circumsized and personally I think it's a matter of preference. If my DH felt strongly against it (which he doesn't), I would probably be fine with not doing it.
belly button: Mine has been pretty shallow for a few weeks now and seems to be on the verge of popping out.
bikini waxes: Pre-pregnancy, I got them on a monthly basis. The last one I got was probably around 20 weeks and it didn't hurt. Now that I've heard how much it's hurting everyone at this point, I think I'll skip it for now (thank god summer and bathing suit season is over!) and just do maintenance on my own. The less pain I have to deal with right now, the better. :D
weekend plans: My parents own a weekend house at the beach so we are heading up there for a long, relaxing weekend. I'm looking forward to sleeping in and doing some more 'baby preparation' reading.
coming home outfit: I've already bought a few really cute outfits but I'm not sure which one he'll fit into and will wear coming home from the hospital. Since I overpack myself, I'm sure I'll pack more than enough outfits to choose from while we're at the hospital.
How is everyone’s appetite? Some days I’m ravenous and can probably eat nonstop, other days I have to remind myself that it’s time for lunch or dinner even if I don’t feel hungry or much like eating.
Exactly like you, Rancid! But the baby also starts kicking when it's meal time to remember his mommy to eat... ;)
Coming home outfit, for the moment I've just bought something with summer sales, but I need a heavier outfit. In november is usually very cold here.
circumcision, I think we'll do it, not far from the birth. My hubby has to do it when he was 27 for a medical problem and it was very painful... in the morning... :rolleyes: (sorry, maybe TMI) So it's better doing it while the baby is little.
Had my check-up today- everything is normal. She actually said my weight is good! :rolleyes: makes me feel better. I had my 1 hour GGT. I had lemon-lime and it was bright green! It looked worse than it tasted. The office had me schedule all of my upcoming appointments through November 16th. I am now going every other week until the end of October. I have another ultrasound scheduled to check the placenta location (move freakin' plactena, move!) But I need to reschedule it due to DH's work schedule. I am also hoping to have it when my MIL is in town, but her travel dates are up in the air. After I straighten it all out and reschedule, I will post the US date.
My next midwife appointment is 9/14.
Hope everyone has a nice weekend and the American mommas enjoy their holiday! Fall is almost here!
It's been quiet around here this week. I hope everyone is doing well.
Nothing new or exciting to report here. Our weekend is going to be jam packed with house stuff in a last ditch effort to get most things in order before our baby shower in 3 weeks. Every other weekend this month is already booked with one thing or another.
Last night i asked dh 'is there anything you want to do before the baby comes'? I can't think of anything that i want to do before the baby comes but i wanted to make sure that if there is something he wants to do as just a couple that we better plan it now since Sept is already full and i know at least a couple of weekend days are booked in Oct already... not to mention i'm guessing i'll be uncomfortably pg and still trying to get things in order before his arrival. I guess I would like to go out on a date before he comes. Just dh and me on a date. :) Anyone else plan any before baby arrives activities?
ellidew (and all other 1st timers)- Definitely go out on a date! Go out on 10 dates! You don't realize how much you will miss your one-on-one time until it's hard to come by.
9 more weeks to go!!!
I can't believe it, I really think our pregnancies have gone by really fast.
We recieved the infant car seat last night. For anyone looking to purchase one, I recommend www.babyage.com, it only took 2 days to get to me and they have good prices.
Our crib came in too, we just ordered it on Sunday so not to bad.
ellidew, I agree, go on dates. DH and I are trying to go on one once a week for here.
What's everyone doibg over the long weekend?
We don't have much planned, I guess we'll play it by ear.
Doc appt update-I had my appointment yesterday afternoon.
Position-he's already head down--she could tell by feeling externally. She said he could still switch, but it's unlikely.
Weight gain-I've gained 15 pounds so far so that's good
Sizethe med student with her measured me at 29 cm. I'll be 31w on Sunday. I asked her about this and she said as long as it's within 2 cm that's normal. All my previous measurements have been right on. Thankfully we have another u/s on the 13th--I can't wait to see my little guy again!
DH and I are headed to Cleveland this weekend (about 8 1/2 hours) to see family. I'm hoping the car ride will be sorta like a date. We've both been so busy lately that we haven't had much time together. Have a great weekend!
We've both been so busy lately that we haven't had much time together.
Us either! Last night was the first night in weeks (like 6) that we've gone home after work and didn't have anything to do. I even made potato pancakes and fried apples for dinner then we ate it together in our dining room. Then settled in and caught up on 3-4 episodes of big brother. We were so far behind but we are caught up to last nights episode now. I guess we'll watch that sometime this weekend. I even told dh how nice it was to come home and be able to spend the evening with him even though all we did was make dinner and sit on the couch!
We have a FULL three days together this weekend starting when dh gets off early (4:30 instead of 6:00). He doesn't even have to work saturday morning! I'm looking forward to it so much!
Sinclair- Have a great trip to Cleveland and have a great date!!!
Anyone else plan any before baby arrives activities? Not that I can think of...the one thing we wanted to do happened last weekend when we went on vacation with my family to Mammoth Lakes and Yosemite. I know DH wanted to go to Hawaii too, but I've already used up all my vacation days with 2 weeklong snowboarding trips to Mammoth early in the year, then used up 2 sick days (no pay) for our extended weekend away last weekend, so I couldn't go even if I wanted to.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v432/rancid13/halfdomesunest.jpg
Half Dome at sunset on Monday...it was such a fantastic trip, I haven't done that much hiking since the last time we went to Yosemite 4 years ago! DH got better pics than me with his spiffy new camera but doesn't have them all downloaded yet. :)
What's everyone doing over the long weekend? Nothing that I can think of. DH works all weekend, but I think he has Monday off (he usually has Sundays off but has been switched to working at another store with different days off than usual), which should be nice b/c normally he doesn't have Mon holidays off. I think I'll relax Saturday, maybe go out to a movie and possibly hang with the family on Sunday depending on what they're doing.
9 more weeks to go!!!
I can't believe it, I really think our pregnancies have gone by really fast.
It's a bit more than 9 weeks for me (more like 13, but still!), but I also think our pregnancies have flown by. I can't believe I'm in the 3rd trimester already. Where did 2006 go?? It's September already?! My shower is in 2 weeks, I can't wait! :D
Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!!
Yesterday's GTT went okay, so now I just have to wait to hear if I failed the 3 hour or not. I really don't want to wait over the long weekend.
DH and I are trying to spend lots of time together although it does take a backburner right now because he has been on a deadline for an article he's writing and they keep sending it back with edits (He does some freelance work on the side).We have our shower next weekend with our friends and then start our prenatal classes on that Monday (11th).
Time flying: When I realize that it's September, the year does seem to have sped by. This time last year, I was gearing up for my wedding and going slightly insane since I had to fire my florist and find a new one at this point. Who would have thought I'd be a couple of months away from having a baby? Well, truthfully, I had hoped to get pregnant right away, so I would have already had a baby, but it does seem fast thinking about it now.
Weekend: We're going to some friends' for a barbecue on Saturday night but because DH works weekends we will only have Monday off together. But that's fine with me. we might actually get to hang out for an entire day.
Weight: I'm up 7 pounds right now. Hoping that I can keep it under 15 for the whole pregnancy. *crosses fingers*
Size: I was measured at 27 cm on Wednesday and I was 28 weeks 1 day at that point. What's the average for this?
to do before baby comes - Yes! We are going on one last vacation next week. Even though DH has a broken wrist, at least we'll be able to just relax before baby comes. I also made us reservations at the fanciest restaurant in town to celebrate our anniversary in October. I figure we might as well splurge now while I'm a voracious eater. :p
position - baby was hanging out transverse for a long time, but is now sitting head up like a little buddah. My midwife pointed out that the hard thing I feel up high in my tummy is the head, made obvious by putting her fingers on both sides of the lump and moving it back and forth. I guess a little bottom wouldn't move like that. I'm trying to do more upright sitting, and pelvic tilts to help him get into a better position. I know its too early to be worried, but its better to get in the habit now. Also, while we're on vacation I plan to swim a lot belly down and dig myself a hole in the sand to lay belly down. Those things are both supposed to help.
weekend plans - DH and I are both working Saturday and Sunday. We will take Monday to relax big time. Things are going to be a little strange around here as the Bay Bridge is going to be closed all weekend. Yikes!
Size- I'm not sure what the "normal" range is, I've always measured right on target at my appointments.
CityGirl, I'm pretty sure this baby is in the position. I can feel the hard heard up top as well and I thin he must have a hand or elbow jabbed unto the right side of my ribs. So pelvic tilts and lying on my stomach should help him flip?
Sinclair319
09-01-2006, 11:11 AM
size-My doc said yesterday that as long as it's within 2 cm it's considered normal.
position-I often feel a hard lump up high, but I'm guessing it must be his little butt! :) I can't wait to see him on the u/s--only 12 more days!!!
Time together before baby comes- Well, since he works in Canada 20 days a month when he is home we spend every moment together. Usually in a mad dash getting things done that I can't do while he is away. Since I work full-time our time spent on things that have to get done while he is home is on the one weekend we usually get together before he leaves again. I can't take any time off of work since I need to save every possible paid day off for maternity leave. I do have STD for 6 weeks of that time, but I am taking 12 weeks off. Hopefully he will get the job with GE that we were pondering for a while and that will allow us to take some weekend trips before the baby gets here.
Sare- I think the books say that the cm measurement usually correlates with how many weeks you are. However, like someone else mentioned there is usually a 2cm give either way before there is concern.
position- I have no idea what position my little guy is in. I think he flips around a lot. One day I will be getting kicked in the cervix and the next I will be getting kicked in the ribs.
weekend plans- I think my brother is coming for a visit, so it will be fun seeing him. He hasn't seen me since I got pregnant and he has been asking if I am as big as a house :rolleyes:. No matter how old we get he still has to find a way to pick on me - I guess old habits die hard...
Size~ I heard that so called "normal" measurements are approx 1cm per week of pregnancy (ie: if you're 29w along, typically 29cm is a 'normal' measurement, but I think it can vary a few cm's in either direction). I've measured normal thus far...
Position~ I have no idea what position this guy is in either. Sometimes I feel what might be a head just below my ribcage, but for all I know it could actually be a baby butt that I'm feeling. :p
I apologize for not posting more often, but we have been incredibly busy! I do read along but have not been posting much here or in my LJ. We just got back from a week at Disney. DD (17.5 months) loved everything and DH and I really had a wonderful time just being a family. He has been traveling a LOT for work and I have been gone 6 weeks this summer with DD. Sometimes DH is able to join us. Anyway, the following is a x-post from my LJ:
Had another OB appointment today and realized I really like BOTH the doctors I have met so far in my new practice. She was super cordial but professional and I was glad to have her a second visit. So far, my overall weight gain is actually 12lbs. I am thrilled as I had plenty of extra weight before I got pregnant again, so I am thrilled to be where I am- despite not liking the actual number. Beggers can't be choosy. ;) I also am measuring TWO WEEKS ahead! I am not too surprised because DD measured ahead from early on as well. I also did the Glucose test and will hopefully get the results next week. My next appointment is 9/15. :D
We scheduled my repeat c-section for Monday, 11/20. I am so excited because my mom is now able to come and watch DD!!!! This is a huge surprise and actually quite shocking! (for those that don't know about my mom, she tends to not make visiting us a priority). Anyway, so my friend will watch DD the day of the surgery, then mom arrives that night and will stay until Saturday. We will have Thanksgiving dinner together whatever day I get out of the hospital and DD will have someone she loves staying with her at home and DH can come back and forth from home to the hospital as much as I need him. :D
This weekend we are going to the Catskills to visit my uncle and aunt and also my sister. She has a wedding to attend nearby, so it works out perfectly. :)
nic - From what I've read the basic idea is to make your belly into a hammock for the baby. His/her back is the heaviest part of their body so gravity will place their back in the lowest area of your body. For most of us who spend a lot of time sitting in a chair, or reclining on a couch in the evening, this means our back is the lowest part. So if we spend more time forward leaning, then our bellies will be the lowest part.
Time together before baby - I guess out last bash will be DH's birthday at the end of Sept. We have tickets to see Medeski Martin and Wood (a band he really likes) in Portland.
I'm feeling guilty for not planning a huge party for him - he's turning 30, and prior to pregnancy, there had been talk of planning a Vegas trip. Now, all he gets is a jazz concert with his 34-week (by then) pregnant wife.
Position - She was head up, according to the OB, at my last appt, and I think she still is. I can feel her hard little head just below my ribcage (and often pressing into my ribcage - ouch!) and feel tap-dancing little feet way down low.
Weight - I'm up 17 lbs. I think that's okay. That gives me 13 lbs. to gain in the next 10 weeks, to stay under 30 lbs. weight gain. My appetite has been poor lately - I always have an upset stomach. Nothing too bad, but I just don't feel like eating. Yesterday, it was 6:00 before I realized that all I had had was a bowl of cereal and a chocolate chip cookie all day. It's like I don't get hungry - I just feel kind of blah. But when I do sit down to eat, I pack it away - I had two giant pieces of pizza, a huge plate of salad, and a root beer for dinner. Then I had that way over-stuffed feeling. I think she's up really high and is taking up room normally reserved for my stomach.
I had my checkup today and everything looks great. I asked about the baby being head down and she said at this point it doesn't really matter because they can still turn for a few more weeks. I *think* that he's head down but I have no idea. I happened to look while she was measuring me today and I am measuring ahead but I did that with DS1 so it doesn't shock me. It can go a few cm's either way. And remember that once the head engages shortly before delivery you will measure smaller because the head is below the bone. I can't believe in a few more weeks we will be discussing heads engaging and exams to check for dialation!!! :eek: It definitely seems like time is flying lately.
Also while I am thinking about it, what do you all think of the buddy system once we start going into labor?? I can sort out buddies based on due date so we can make phone calls once the excitement starts and babies arrive. Not everyone has to do it and I am sure that more than a few of us have IRL friends that can/will post but if anyone is interested PM me and I can have the list all put together before the first of October since I am sure a few babies will make early arrivals. ;)
Hey everyone. We just got back from vacation and boy does this thread move quickly! I have a ton of email to catch up on, but wanted to drop by.
I have an off schedule OB appt tomorrow (Sat.) morning. Tuesday afternoon I got this horrible sharp pain in my upper right abdomen. DH and I think we figured out what it was... we stayed at a waterpark hotel on our vacation and Tuesday morning I hopped into (or tried to) a tube to go down the lazy river. I must have pulled my stomach hernia in a weird way. I called my OB's office on Thurs. b/c the pain was pretty bad, so I'm going in tomorrow. So far it hasn't hurt today, which is weird. I guess I'll find out for sure if I ripped the hernia tomorrow. Fun, fun, fun! I'm not too terribly worried b/c the baby has been kicking and I'm not bleeding or anything like that.
I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday weekend! Off to unpack and do laundry - yuck!!
I know how you feel. My DH turned 30 a month after our DS was born. All he got was a cake and some beer at the neighborhood Halloween party. :( Of course, he said he didn't mind not having a party, but I still felt bad. All of his friends had huge parties for their 30th.
Maybe you can plan a surprise party for his 31st next year! He'll never see that one coming :) !
Catgirl- That's not a fun way to spend your vacation. I hope you still managed to enjoy yourselves! Hopefully the hernia will heal quickly (if that's what it is).
**********************************
A friend of mine who was due on Sept. 4th had her baby on Wednesday! She was induced because the baby was getting pretty big. She came out at 9lb 1oz. which isn't too bad. Her induction went really smooth though... Only 6 hours from beginning to birth & only 20 minutes of pushing. (This is her 3rd child, but her first one in 17 years!!! )
I hit a sale at Carson's (Bergners to many of you) yesterday, and got a ton of things for Hilary. A bunch of stretchy pants and a few 3 month outfits.. and a Halloween onesie that says "Got Candy?". Then a made a killing on some Ralph Lauren items that were 80% off of already clearance prices. They are all 9month or 12 month for next summer/fall, but I couldn't pass it up. One outfit was originally $65.00 and I got it for $9.50 :eek: ! Buying girl clothes is going to be fun!!!!!
Don't feel guilty at all! You're pregnant and also giving DH one of the best gifts one can possibly give another person (at least that's what my DH tells me)!! :D My DH turned 30 last year and we went to Hawaii to vacation and to visit his parents who had just moved there. If he was turning 30 this year (his bday will be in 3 weeks) I would have told him to go to Hawaii w/out me if that's where he wanted to go, or just bake a cake for him or do something equally simple (dinner out at Cheesecake Factory?) to celebrate.
We are back from our trip to Venice. It was amazing! We did a lot of walking but it was worth it. Pigged out on gelatto and had some fabulous food. We didn't get to do everything on our list, but that's ok....just gives us a reason to go back ;)
Thanks Scarlett for the gianduiotto (sp?) recommendation...yum!
I'll try and catch up on some QOTD
Position Have no idea. I am feeling kicks from every direction.
Time together before baby Well, I guess this past week was our "official" time together before baby but we will try and make extra effort until the baby arrives (and afterwards, if possible).
Going home outfit I haven't purchased something specifically for this purpose, might just choose something from the clothes I've already bought or been given as gifts.
Belly button I have an VERY innie belly button that looks pretty much the same as before I became pregnant.
Appetite While on vacation my appetite was QUITE healthy. I think that was probably due to all the walking. Now I can feel like I am hungry but am not sure what exactly it is that I want. That probably doesn't make any sense!
Circumcision This is not routinely performed here (the UK). So we would 1. Have to pay for it and 2. Organize the procedure. As it would be considered elective surgery. My personal preference is for no circumcision.
Bikini waxes None here, although it is getting more difficult to keep that area "trimmed" ;)
I had my unscheduled OB appt yesterday for stomach pain. My OB thinks that I am ripping my abdominal wall, from all the excessive fluid I have. Also, every time I go I have to pee in a cup and this time she said that sugar is spilling into my urine. So... as I figured I am now manually monitoring my blood sugar. My BP was also high. I have another appt Tues. morning to recheck sugar in my urine and my BP. My body doesn't do very well in 3rd tri. :(
Circumcision ~ We won't be getting our DS circumcised. I did a lot of research on this before I even got PG this time around, and for most of the reasons already stated, we won't be getting it done. For those of you who are anti-circ, click here (http://www.mothering.com/discussions/showthread.php?t=129378) for an MDC post re treatment of an intact DS. You might already know the info in the message, but I didn't and I sure am glad I read it.
I would write more but DD is wanting attention.
catgirl1007 - Sorry you're having stomach pain! I hope everything goes well at the doctor on Tue. Good luck!
Peaches - Your trip sounds like it was a ton of fun! That's great you got a chance to get away before the baby comes!
neenbean - That is so exciting you have a date for your c-section already. That's wonderful your mom is able to stay and help you out with your daughter!
To do before baby comes - We went away last weekend, and that'll probably be the last time we get a chance to before the baby comes. So we'll have to plan some nice dinners out... oh, and finish the nursery too!
Circumcision - We're having a girl, and that makes me a little relieved I don't have to make a decision on this right now. But I've been reading along with what you've been saying and the research, so hopefully i'll be able to make an informed decision when we have a boy in the future!
Bikini Waxes - I got one around 27 weeks, and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I figured when it comes time for the birth, I don't want anything that could get in the way and make things more difficult! I'd also heard awful stories of people being shaved with dry razors in the hospital and i'd like to avoid that!!
Getting ready ladies :) Time sure is flying for all of you, us Oct ladies can't believe it's our month next. Glad to hear all of you are doing well. Enjoy the last few weeks of pregnancy.
Mayham- FYI - actually hospitals usually don't do shaving anymore, it's a risk of infection. They prefer that the woman is not shaved the day she delivers (at least my hospital prefers it that way)
Peaches great pics! You look great. :D
Catgirl~ sounds like scary stuff! I hope things get better for you ASAP! Are you on bedrest now?
Bikini Waxes - I got one around 27 weeks, and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I figured when it comes time for the birth, I don't want anything that could get in the way and make things more difficult! I'd also heard awful stories of people being shaved with dry razors in the hospital and i'd like to avoid that!!
Not sure what is typical with a vaginal birth, but I was dry shaved by my hospital when being prepped for a c-section. I have been getting bikini waxes a few times since getting my BFP and plan to continue the rest of my life. ;)
coming home outfit- I've been looking for a while now, but not finding anything. I bought this outfit the other day, but it is 3 months (up to 13lbs).. the smallest size it came in. If it doesn't fit from the hospital I plan to get her picture taken in it...
DH (with the help of my BIL) got the crown moulding put up yesterday in the nursery. Now I get to caulk and touch up... then I am moving in furniture!! Well... I will make DH move the furniture while I supervise :) . It's a icky day here - a good day to work on the nursery!
Ericka_Jarett - I can't believe your baby boy is due in 30 days! I remember you from our time on the ttc boards... and we're so close to having our babies now!
neenbean - OUCH! It must have been terrible to also have to get over razor burn on top of the other healing after giving birth! The stories I had read about the shaving, like you, all seem to be around c-section scenarios vs. vaginal birth.
katnbug - sounds like you're in the home stretch on working on the nursery -- congrats!
coming home outfit - question for RO's... what types of clothes are best? I bought the cutest onesie, sweater, bib and shoes from BRU that I was thinking of using as a coming home outfit. Then DH and I looked at it and wondered what would be covering her legs? Do babies wear tights under onesies? There were no coordinating pants with that set. Then DH read in Baby Bargains that we should avoid onesies due to the umbilical cord, and should go with some sort of outfit that has snaps down the leg... not sure what these are called.
Okay, reading that just makes me feel like such a novice, I don't even know how to dress a baby! Help!
mayham ~ I know for me I didn't use onesies until after the umbilical stump fell off. I usually go more with the side snap t-shirts for the first few weeks until I feel more comfortable pulling something over my baby's head. I also know of moms that use onesies from the get go. I think a lot of what you do depends on your own level of comfort. I also noticed with both my kids that I didn't do a lot of cute outfits for months because I spent so much time changing diapers that having to take all that off and put it back on was a pain. That and having to change outifts from spitup all the time. I know with DD she spent the first few months in the gowns with elastic at the bottom because it was just easier access to changing her. I put more on her when we went out but even then it wasnt more than a footed one piece something or other.
Here is a pic of one of my fave outfits on DS1 because it was easy to get on and off.
Mayham - crazy isn't it? Time sure did fly. We have come a long way. I could actually go into labor tomorrow since I get my pessary removed and the OB thinks that may be the only thing holding me closed. Hope it's not tomorrow though, it can be anytime Saturday afternoon after my shower though. :) Hubby and I talked about if he came earlier than Saturday, he would be home with the baby and we would give him a bottle, since it's the early start of RSV season and we don't need the baby sick.
Re: shaving - was referring to vaginal delivery about no shaving required. It would stink to get dry shaved when they are going to cut your abdomen for a C. Yikes!!!!!
Outfit - for us we have a preemie onesie and a gown as well, we are just using a blanket in the car for his legs, as he will have socks on as well as a hat and light shirt if needed. We also have a 0-3 outfit but know it will be too big. We will do most of our pics at home since hubby will be doing all of them, I assume we will have lots of naked baby shots :)
bijouparvin - great belly pics on the beach!
Ericka_Jarett - oh my goodness, good luck today! But I hope he holds out a little longer so he can have a little more time to cook and wait until after your shower!
kadee_29 - thanks for your recommendations! I think I'll look for something that will be easy on and off, because I can definitely see DH and I being nervous about putting something over the baby's head right away. Knowing my tendency to over pack, I'll probably show up at the hospital with 5 options, so I'm sure she'll leave well dressed no matter what :)
Neenbean~ Glad to hear that all looks well according to your most recent dr’s appt. That’s great you got to schedule your c-section AND your mom is able to come watch your DD. Hope your weekend in the Catskills was relaxing and fun!
Sinclair~ That is crazy to think how far along we are! I still can’t believe I’m in the 3rd trimester yet…where did the first 2 go when I wasn’t looking?? :eek:
Kadee~ Glad to hear that everything’s looking ok! I’m not sure if I’m gonna do the buddy system thing, although that is a great idea. I do have a few IRL friends that post on CC so I could call one of them up and have them post an announcement in here on my behalf if/when I’ve gone into labor and/or given birth.
Catgirl~ Ouch! That pain sounds awful! Hope everything’s ok! Waiting to hear your report after your appt. :(
Peaches~ Welcome back from Venice! Love the pictures, and how dare the mean police lady make you stand up; hopefully she made all those other people who were sitting down around you stand too. You look great!! :D
Katnbug~ Cute coming home outfit!
Bijouparvin~ Love the beachy pictures!! The 2nd one is too cute!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just a couple things to report on here. The first being this pain I've been having.. I know you're "supposed" to sleep on your left side (and I have an assortment of pillows to help me achieve this position) but when I position myself on my left I get this sharp, shooting pain on that side just below my breast, like something is being pulled or torn or stretched too much. It really hurts enough to make me not want to lie on my side. Doesn't happen when I'm on my right side though. :confused:
My mom called me yesterday from BRU...turns out that the crib we want (Jardine Olympia Lifetime crib in black) just happened to be available as a clearance floor model at BRU. Someone had ordered it then decided they didn't want it after all. Mom said there was 1 small scratch on it, but it was otherwise in perfect condition (my worry was that it was banged up, because I've seen some of those floor models in pretty bad condition). So she's getting that for us. :D
FIL called DH over the weekend and they're coming into town this weekend (they live in Hawaii). FIL is only going to be here for a week, but MIL has decided to stay here until after the baby is born. She'll be able to make my shower next weekend and spend her bday, DH's bday, Thanksgiving and possibly even Christmas here. Which I know all means a lot to DH, and it will be fantastic having her around again during this special time in all our lives (this is the first 'planned' pregnancy on either my or DH's sides of the family). I'm very excited to see the both of them again. :)

Rancid- Holy smokes! That’s a long-term visitor! That’s awesome that you are both looking forward to their visit and that she’ll be able to stay for so long and be around for so many things. I don’t have any advice about the pain… if it was both sides I’d say acid reflux but since it’s only the one side I have no clue! Congrats on getting the crib. My mom bought ours too. Did you already get to bring it home?
Great pics bijouparvin!
Kadee- What a cute picture! That does look like a cozy outfit! I hadn’t considered the coming home outfit restrictions. I’ll take a t-shirt and a onesie just to be safe and use whichever I feel most comfortable with.
Mayham- lol. I don’t know how to dress a baby either. I’m guessing that there is no wrong way and you should do it how ever is most comfortable for you. I wouldn’t feel bad though… how would we know ahead of time?!?
Katnbug- That dress is so adorable. The only time I wish I was having a girl is when I look at clothes! They have the cutest little girl clothes. I can’t stand boys clothes that are covered in dump trucks! Lol. I did a lot of supervising over the weekend too. I actually feel kind of bad that I can’t help but I’m doing what I can and dh understands.
Ericka Jarett- Good luck to you and all the October mommies!! Here’s hoping my hospital is up to date on skipping the shave! Lol. That sounds terrible!
Catgirl- Yikes! That sounds awful! Are you feeling better? What will they do if you are ripping the abdominal wall? I’d imagine your bp was high due to the pain and panic. Mine is always high when I go in for an unscheduled appt. Nerves make my blood pressure boil over! At the er last week it was 145/75 when they first took it. After everything was normal on the ekg and we were just waiting for blood work they took it again and it was 125/60something. How was your follow up appt today?
Peaches- Beautiful pictures! I’m with the other poster… how dare they tell a pg woman to get up! Lol. I don’t know how you did all that walking. Just walking to the bathroom makes my ankles swell ;) Nevermind I walk to the bathroom every 15 minutes. Lol.

Morning ladies! Hope everyone had a great weekend. We were pretty productive around here! We did a lot of work on the nursery and finished our baby registry too! I was excited to see some items had already been purchased from our registry even though it was by accident when i was looking over our updates after finishing it. The invites haven't even gone out yet so i wonder who's been shopping. I do feel a little bad that we changed one of the purchased items before we knew it was purchased. oops.
Here are some nursery pic thumbnails. The full size pics are in my journal but some of them are pretty big (i don't know why since only some of them are) so i didn't want to waste space here.

There is still a ton of stuff to do in there. We have red curtains for the windows and we don't even have the mattress or bedding yet. The pictures lack a lot of color but the reds from the curtains and the bedding should brighten things up a bit. Complete nursery update and full size pics are in my journal.
I have an unscheduled ob appointment this afternoon. I think i might have a UTI. It's funny in a way to think of a pg woman complaining about having to go to the bathroom but i seriously went to the bathroom like 100 times yesterday feeling like i really had to go and barely got anything out only to walk back to the room (10 feet away) and feel like i have to go again. Several times i went, left the bathroom, and walked right back into it. I got out of bed at least 25 times last night and can account for at least 3 between 3:50 am and 4:10 am. I'm up all night thus dh and the dog are both sleeping poorly. I feel so bad for them! Since this has been going on for a couple of days now and i have a pulling feeling in the pubic area and occasionally a burning feeling when i go to the bathroom i'm thinking it might be a uti. Otherwise this little baby is causing havoc on the lower regions and i'll just have to suffer through it for the next 9 weeks! I just think if it was only the baby that i wouldn't feel the sudden urge to go so soon after going because wouldn't the bladder be empty? I almost hope it's a uti so i can take something to clear it up and know i'll feel better in a week. lol. sad, isn't it! I hope they don't think i'm crazy at the doctors office... if something is literally keeping you awake at night then it's probably worth a trip to see the doctor, right?

MIL won't be staying with us, I'll make that much clear. :) There's simply no room, unless she wants to sleep on the couch which isn't likely. I believe she'll either be staying with other family in the area, or with friends (or likely a combo of the 2). But it will be nice having her within a 30-minute drive from us if need be. :) We didn't get to bring the crib home yet; I'm pretty sure my mom bought it with the intent of giving it to me at the shower next weekend. She told me to tell DH to get the baby's room cleaned up because we're gonna need to put the crib somewhere. This is what it currently looks like (and I'm not even gonna mention the closet!!):

And he's the one who needs to organize it because it's HIS stuff...the only thing in that room that I use also is the computer, and very seldomly at that.
And I just have no idea about the pain, because it's not a burning at all, it simply feels like something is being pulled out or pinched in that area. It goes away when I roll onto my back or my other side. I'm wondering if it's just the stretching (or over stretching?) of a muscle or ligament or tendon in that area??

Oh, believe me, I felt just as crazy going in. I even mentioned to the nurse that I thought I was being neurotic. She made me feel so much better when she said "You are never neurotic when you are pregnant. You need to listen to your body and if something doesn't feel right - even if you can't pinpoint what it is - you need to call us. Mother's intuition is not something made up."

LOL, can you believe I took those pictures AFTER DH straightened up the room? I couldn't even walk in there without tripping over something. He's got so much junk that it has spilled out of our garage storage spots, hall closet, master bedroom closet and 2nd bedroom closet onto the floor in the 2nd bedroom. It's just....STUFF!!! Junk, IMO. ;)
I can't wait till my shower, I can't believe it's next weekend! And another girl I went to HS with is having her shower the following weekend (she's ~4 weeks ahead of me).
And yeah, I'm glad MIL is staying elsewhere. I totally love her but we don't even have room for the baby yet so there's literally no place for her to stay. If we had another extra room, then yeah I could see that happening. But unfortunately we're in a little 2 bedroom condo so it just won't work. ;)

Another quick drive by. I'm sorry, I will do SOs when things are back to normal. I'm in a tremendous amount of pain right now and am going to lie in bed with DD after this post - that's the only thing that makes it feel better.
The abdominal wall ripping thing will apparently heal itself and won't hurt when I don't have all of this fluid anymore. It's only acted up twice this weekend, but today DH is back at work and I think I did something to twist it weird when picking up DD half a million times today. It.is.killing.right.now.
So I had my f/u appt and my BP is still high. They took it twice on Sat. and twice today and it's in the low 140s - not awful, but not great. So they did a blood draw to test for pre-e. I had mild pre-e with DD, but this time I don't have the swelling that I had with her. My bio dad has high BP so I honestly think it's a heredity thing and not related to pregnancy... hopefully. They now want to see me once/week while my BP is over 140 and if it stays up or goes higher, they're talking induction at 37 weeks!! I'm not happy with this at all. I was induced with DD at 40 weeks b/c of GD and I can't have an epidural and Pitocin contrax SUCK A$$ big time. So it's a wait and see game for now.
My blood sugar #s are on the high side too so I have to call a dietician with the high risk pregnancy group they partner with and figure out my diet, and then call my #'s in once/week.
So anyway... next appt is Mon., 9/11. U/S to check fluid levels, check BP, check sugar in urine and talk with doctor. I'm not ready to have a baby right now, but now I'm kind of wishing I was farther along and he'd just come out.
Okay... sorry to ramble. Will do SOs at another time. Off to nap.

Oh catgirl. I'm so sorry you are in so much pain AND that you have to deal with all of this. I hope you feel better soon and i'll be keeping my fingers crossed that your pre-e test comes back negative. Hang in there as best you can. Have a good nap!
Out of curiosity... why can't you have an epidural. I'm a little worried about this because i have a curve in my spine. Apparently it's noticeable enough that in grade school i was always sent to my pediatrician for a follow up scoliosis (sp?) test. The docor always said that it was curved but fine. I was wondering if this would hinder the possibility of an epi. I hope not. I don't plan on using it but i like the idea of having it available as a back up! I wonder if the ob would know about it?

mayham- :) Don't feel bad that you're having questions about onesies and other outfits! I definitely learned by trial and error myself. I think kadee mentioned the side snap t-shirts - we used those a ton with DS. They didn't irritate the belly button while it was healing. Another clothing suggestion I have is to get some of the sleep sacks with the open bottom. I think they're called something different, but don't recall what. I used to call them dresses & DH didn't like that one bit since we had a boy! They make for very easy diaper changes though.. no un-snapping or removing of pants.
rancid- That's great that your IL's are coming for a visit & your MIL will be staying for an extended visit.
Don't have any suggestions about your pain when lying on your left side. I think it's ok to lay on your right side too though if it's more comfy... at least until you can see the dr.
Good luck getting your DH to clean up the spare room. I feel your pain.
ellidew- Your nursery is coming along beautifully!! Love the trees and birds!
catgirl- So sorry about your high BP and the possibility of induction again. You know, I can definitely sympathize with you on the BP issue since I experienced it big-time with DS. It's good news that you don't have the swelling though. Hopefully that means no pre-e. I'm also a product of a family with serial high BP. Heredity could very well be a factor.

Out of curiosity... why can't you have an epidural. I'm a little worried about this because i have a curve in my spine.
Thank you for your well wishes. I do have scoliosis and mine was bad enough to require spinal fusion surgery. I have 2 stainless steel rods in my back and the lower one is so low that it'd be very risky to even try to insert an epidural. The curve in your spine shouldn't prevent you from having an epi if you decide you want it. I think if you have a high threshold for pain, you can definitely get through L&D. I'm all for NCB, but not when it's induced by Pitocin.
Kat ~ I know. I was thinking about you today! Actually, we saw you guys leaving Gymbo - we were at music class. Your 1st c-section was unscheduled, right? If I remember correctly you went in for a regular visit and your BP was super high, but now I can't remember if you had the c-section right after that or not. Did they talk with you about needing to go early with a pre-e DX? They never mentioned it when I had mild pre-e with C.
Rancid ~ That room doesn't look as bad as you think it does. :) Most of our house regularly looks like that, esp with a toddler running around.
Lydia ~ You look wonderful!! How are you feeling? Are you finding yourself more tired these days, esp with having your DD to watch after? I was much less tired the first time around.
Outfits for baby ~ I love those snap up the front outfits. They make diaper changes easier, are easy on the umbilical cord stump, and are great for fall/winter weather. I didn't like pants until DD got bigger... maybe around crawling age. I don't know why, but they were kind of a pain to put on her before she was more mobile. The snap ones are easy b/c you can lay them down open, and then put the baby into them. The zipper sleep sacks are also nice for winter. They usually have them at Kohl's on sale 2 for $15.
My abdominal pain is only moderate now. Taking a nap with DD definitely helped. My body doesn't do well in 3rd tri. This is just one of a few reasons why this is our last baby. :( I wonder if I had started having kids earlier if it would have made a difference, but such is life.

I was 36 weeks when I was told my BP was getting high. By late in my 37th week I was told it was dangerously high and at my weekly appt. the dr. sent me over to L&D to be monitored. He told me that it was very likely they would have to take the baby by c-section that day. My cervix was closed tight! Before that day I had no clue I would be going early - or having a c-section. They actually ended up sending me home that day after getting my BP under control. They told me I had a UTI and gave me a prescription and told me to do a 24hr urine collection to monitor for pre-e. I was incredibly swollen at this time too. Two days later I was back at the dr. for a follow up and my BP was off the charts as was the protein content in my urine sample. Back to L&D with no question that I would have an emergency c-section that day - which I did. I don't think they even said the word pre-eclampsia to me before that week. :( I think I was incredibly lucky that nothing bad happened to me or DS between my 2 visits to L&D. DS should have been delivered the first time I was sent to the hospital - and the dr. who sent me there the first time was livid when he found out they sent me home.. I think he was the only one who realized exactly what was going on.
I think I was pretty ignorant on the dangers of pre-e with my first pregnancy. Only after months of being monitored after delivery did I understand how bad mine really was. I hope your BP can just be monitored and that it doesn't turn into something more.

I just saw in the October 06 thread that their first baby arrived yesterday! Holy cow!!! Where did the months go?? :eek:
catgirl[/]b- I am so sorry you are in so much pain! That truly sucks!
[b]Question- has anyone had mestrual cramp like contractions? Are they anything to be worrying about? I try really hard to sleep on my side, but often roll to my back in my sleep. (I sleep sitting up bc of the acid reflux, so it is way easier to sleep on my back in the position). I wake up bc I have what feels like menstrual cramps. I roll over to my side again, only to repeat the process. I mentioned it at my last appt, and my OB's response was to sleep on my side. Well, duh! But I can't really help what I do in my sleep, you know?
Anyway...anyone have any experience with this?

Menstrual type cramps- Yes, I just assumed it was gas. Usually when i stand up or walk around it subsides.

Mayham~ Cute coming home outfit!! Do I see animal-print trim on the bib and onesie?? I love how the shoes match too!!
I just saw in the October 06 thread that their first baby arrived yesterday! Holy cow!!! Where did the months go?? :eek:
Holy crap!! :eek: :eek:

No…but then I’ve never had menstrual cramps before so I’m not exactly sure what they’d feel like (and before you say I’m lucky that I’ve never had them, instead I get this really intense lower back pain for the first few days of my period which is probably just as painful as regular cramps). I’ve had some random pains & pinches here and there that could be cramp-like, but they could also be because of the baby moving around in there like a freaking acrobat constantly. I occasionally get a pain in my side, just below my left breast, that feels very much like a side-stitch that I’ve gotten while running in the past, but now it occurs whenever I roll onto my left side. :confused:

I just saw in the October 06 thread that their first baby arrived yesterday! Holy cow!!! Where did the months go?? :eek: It was Ericka_Jarett!! She posted here saying that there was a possibility of her baby being born after her appt.
I can't believe that a few of our babies will probably start arriving next month!!! :eek: (I am crossing my fingers that mine does.)
BTW....I have gotten PM's from a couple people interested in the buddy system thing. I will probably give it another week or so to see if anyone else is interested and then starting pairing people up.

Hey ladies! I had my 28 week appointment today including the gluclose test and iron screening. When I was pg with ds #1, they drew blood and sent it to a lab to screen for gestational diabetes & iron. This time (different office), it was only a finger prick and I got the results right away. So, blood sugar, iron and blood pressure are all a-ok. Yahoo! I start going every 2 weeks now, so my next appointment is Monday, 9/18.
Coming home outfit - we bought a one piece with matching booties and hat in "newborn" size for ds #1. Andrew was 8 1/2 pounds at birth, and he was still swimming in the outfit! Oh well. :rolleyes:
And I believe we've decided on a name - Matthew Charles. Both "Andrew" and "Matthew" were chosen because they can be shortened to nicknames while they are kids and later used in their full form for professional reasons if they want. Andrew's middle name is Michael after dh & my dad. Matthew's middle name will be Charles after dh's dad - Charles is also dh's middle name. So, not terribly exciting/trendy names, but they have a lot of meaning to us. :)

Cute name acrane! We chose Charles for our little boys middle name too. It was my dad's name. I like having a family tie somewhere in the name!! Glad that your tests came back okay. How awesome that they could do them all right there!
kadee- I'm going to have to plead ignorance on the buddy system. I totally remember reading about it somewhere in the thread but i'm drawing a blank on it. I'll search through for your post but if you could give me a refresher that would be great! lol. Can i plead pregnancy brain in this case instead? ;) I for one am really hoping for a November baby. I don't care if it's 11/1 i just want a November baby. Silly i know and in about 4-6 weeks i may be singing a totally different tune!

I had my Dr's appt. this morning. Weight and BP were good. She said I was measuring at 29cm, which is a little behind. However, she said since I am so tall I have more room for the baby to stretch out in there. I have had a few spells where I have been lightheaded after eating and some spots in my vision every now and then. They told me to start eating smaller meals more frequently throughout the day since they think my blood sugar is crashing after I eat causing the lightheadedness. I don't know how I am going to do that since I am usually only hungry once during the day and that is at lunch. The rest of the time I could care less about food. Ian's heartbeat was good and she said it was accelerating when he would kick, as it should.
My next appt is 9/19.
menstrual type cramps- I have had this happen a few times. Mostly it is after I get up in the middle of the night to pee or first thing in the morning to pee. I asked the Dr. about it and she said that it was most likely caused by the uterus shifting around once the bladder was emptied - it is perfectly normal. Usually if I change positions they go away.
kadee- I will probably update myself when the baby arrives. Thanks for setting up the buddies though! :)

Update: Went to the doctors yesterday. He said that the urine sample looked find but often times when they send them out for a culture they come back positive. He prescribed an antibiotic to be on the safe side. So that's that. Hopefully it relieves the problem. I guess i just figure that if the baby was sitting on the uterus that after i go to the bathroom i'd feel a little relief rather than the instant urge to go again. (wouldn't the bladder be empty?)
He also went ahead and did my 32 week appt since i was there and scheduled to come back on Friday. He measured and said that i'm measuring right on the money. After it sunk in i asked him about it a few minutes later because several weeks ago i was measuring about 2 weeks ahead. He said he noticed that but that i'm right on now. (i usually see the woman in the practice but since it was an unscheduled visit i took whoever i could get!) He also did a pelvic exam and said the cervix is still long and firm. So this baby is there to stay for at least a while longer! :D

Some months set up what they call the buddy system so when someone goes into labor they have a person on the thread to call and give them updates. That way we all know whats going on when it happens. I for one am extremely nosey and like to know about things when they happen. :p
I just asked for people to PM me if they are interested and I will have the system set up by October.

Thanks kadee! I'm going to opt out since i have a friend irl that frequents the boards so i'll be in touch with her anyway and i'll have her swing by to do updates. (plus, dh will be comfortable talking to her if i'm not in a position to) ;)I can't wait to share the news with everyone so i'll be sure to send her this way to update things. Hopefully there is enough time beforehand that i can post myself and tell you all it's time to go to the hospital :D I can't believe we are talking about it being time! I'm so excited!!

Rubbersoul~ Glad to hear your appt went well!!

kadee- I have a few friends IRL that are on CC, so I am going to have one of them come in and keep everyone udated. Thank you so much, though, for organizing it. :)
kadee, I think I'm going to update myself as well but I would be happy to help youset the system up.
Just wanted to stop by and say hello to everyone.
Ellidew: Your nursery is turning out beautiful! I love all the cute murals on the wall. Great job. And thanks for the heads up on all the cute autumn stuff at Children's Place. I got a few cute items including the same hat you got (hope you don't mind but I loved the colors!) and a few pairs of cordorouy pants. Too cute.
menstrual cramps: I haven't experienced this but they don't sound fun.
kadee: Like others, I'll also provide updates myself when the baby arrives. Thanks for organizing this though. :)
stronger baby kicks these days?: Has anyone else noticed how much stronger the baby is kicking these days? It's amazing. Some days, he's more active than others but on most days, he gives me some really good, strong kicks. It doesn't hurt but it's much more noticeable than before. But I must admit that I do love it. :D
------------------------------------------------
Now that it's finally September, I feel like time is really going to start flying. My first baby shower is in two weeks, which is crazy. I think my DH is getting more serious about getting the baby's room in order so that's exciting as well. I have two girlfriends who are just about to deliver their babies and then I'm next! yay! I'm really looking forward to November making its' way to us.

stronger baby kicks these days? Yup... and how about those nice under the rib kicks that make you screech out loud? lol. I've just started experiencing that in the last day or two!
Thanks lilo! I can't wait to see how it turns out in the end. I can't wait for my shower either... mine is in 3 weeks and i believe the invites went out today. Yippee! Also, things are being purchased from our registry and invites haven't even gone out yet! It's so cool. lol. Good luck to your friends and their babies. Can't wait for ours to arrive!!
Rancid- Me too! I seriously think i'm going to be sitting there for 5 minutes and then i get 1/2 a Tablespoon! lol. The only downside is that after i still feel like i have to go but nothing more comes out. If it is indeed a bladder infection i guess the antibiotic will take care of it otherwise i guess i'll just be dealing with yet another unpleasant side effect of pregnancy. Ya know, i feel like i complain a lot but i LOVE being pregnant even if i'm sometimes really miserable. Like the first tri and morning sickness was awful! absolutely awful! But, looking back i don't remember it being that bad. Here's hopin' i feel the same about l&d! lol.

Stronger baby kicks these days? Yes, most definitely! I think DH is suprised at the power behind some of the kicks sometimes because they're so, powerful!! Nothing really painful yet, although I was feeling some movement in my extremely lower abdomen last night that was a kind of pinching coupled with some pop-pop-pop hits/kicks. I told DH that I thought the baby was biting me and he thought that was the funniest thing I'd ever said. :eek: :rolleyes:

I look back at the 1st trimester and remember how easy it was...I think I even posted something to that effect in my LJ around month 3. But then I didn't get m/s until just into my 2nd trimester and then only for 2 weeks total. Then my itchy/irritated skin kicked in somewhere around there, and general feelings of ickiness crept up on me at the same time. 3 months so far of being miserable, 3 more to go (hopefully the 3rd will be better than the 2nd?) and I have NO desire to go through something similar again, if I can help it. My skin still sucks, it's not as bad as it was when it was at the worst, but it's still quite irritated and dry in several places much to no avail (I've been loading on the moisturizers, emmolients and so forth). Some days it feels better than others but it's still quite itchy in some spots no matter what I do. :(
Ellidew: I'm sorry you're having a lot of pain because of a possible UTI. I've had more than one during my pregnancy so I know how much it sucks. Just a little bit of advice to hopefully help you through it (although antibiotics should do the trick within a few days): Drink lots and lots of water! It will really help to flush out the bacteria. I know it will cause you to go to bathroom even more, which you don't want to do, but it will help. Stay away from anything highly acidic until you feel better (decaf coffee, cranberry juice cocktail which is mostly sugar anyway, tomatoes, tomato sauce, orange juice, etc.) because it can irritate your bladder and make things worse. As a preventive measure when it does clear up, you might want to ask your doctor about taking OTC cranberry tablets or drink some 100% cranberry juice once in a while. But once you have an actual infection the cranberry stuff won't help to get rid of it. Feel better soon! :)

Hi ladies! Trudging through a short work week here. The weekend with my family was fantastic! The first shower was so much fun! We got lots of great gifts and just generally had a very fun time! I can't wait for shower number two this weekend!!!! Seriously though, I'm going to be so wiped after this weekend is overwith! It will be nice to not have a lot planned for a few weekends....
And I'm happy to report that our furniture is in! We set up delivery for the 14th, so another week to wait. Just in time though - it will be good to have a dresser so I can put all these baby clothes and things away. Oooh, I'm getting so excited I can hardly stand it!
Anybody else having difficulties breathing? For the last week, I've had a hard time getting a full, deep breath. It's like I almost have to start to yawn to really enable myself to inhale deeply. Weird, but I figure baby girl is starting to crowd out my lungs a bit.
rubbersoul Interesting about the lightheadedness after eating. I just had that happen to me after lunch today. I bet it was my blood sugar though because I had a big salad, carton of choc milk and a yogurt. Hmm. Must remember to eat smaller meals.
kadee I'll either update myself or have a friend of mine who is on CC update for me.
stronger kicks YES! It used to be rare that I'd get a "painful" kick. Now, I practically get one once a day - it either feels like she's hitting my hip bone or kicking my ribs. And I can also better distinguish body parts as well. She has to be head down because I can feel her little butt and legs up high.

Kat ~ TY for the info re your pre-e situation. I remember it was really serious and seemed to come out of the blue. I hope we both have decent BP #s the rest of these pregnancies.
ellidew ~ That's great that your test came back negative. When will you get the "official" word from the lab? I was on antibiotics earlier in this pregnancy for strep throat. What kind of antibiotic did your doc RX? I hope you're feeling better.
kadee ~ TY for organizing the buddy system, but I'll probably update myself. My doula is going to type up a birth story for me, so I'll probably copy/paste much of that.
The awful pain is back in my abdomen this afternoon. I didn't have it all morning, but it came back after DD and I took our naps, which is weird. Of course DH is traveling for work now so I had to call my mom to come over, play with DD and stay the night. I'm not thrilled about that, but I had to swallow my pride. Someone else has to give DD a bath tonight.

Anybody else having difficulties breathing?
Yes, most definitely! I like to go for walks in a nearby park on my lunch break and I've noticed over the last month or so I have a difficult time getting a nice rhythymic deep breath in. To the point where I have to physically slow down my walking pace in order to feel like I'm getting enough air into my lungs. I just started my prenatal yoga dvds that I recently ordered via Amazon, so hopefully practicing my yoga breath (I haven't done yoga regularly in about a year) will help with that. :)

Catgirl - I'm sorry you're still having such awful pain!
I have a question: What position are your babies in?
Baby girl is breech. Her head has been wedged into my ribcage for weeks, and the doctor confirmed it today by feeling her head and my description of kicks down low all the time. I asked if she'll move, and my doctor said, "maybe." Is it getting late for a big position change?
Overall I'm doing great. I feel great. Contractions are a thing of the past, and I don't have the overwhelming panic that I'm going to go into pre-term labor. I don't have any real pain, or any other symptoms that are anything other than minor annoyances. I'm loving pregnancy right now. I really never thought I'd get to this point - I was so miserable for the first four months. I', really just so grateful to feel this way right now.
I do, however, feel overwhelmed at how soon she'll be here. I could use an extra month, I think. But don't hold me to that - I'm sure in a few weeks I'll be anxious to have her out! But in general, I'm really scared of having a newborn. She's so convenient and portable and easy to take care of right now - I kind of like it! :)

mimieliza ~ I had an u/s 2.5 weeks ago and Devin was breech, too. The u/s tech said it wasn't a big deal at that point and I emailed my doula and she said the same thing. I think ideally they want them flipped by 36-38 weeks, but I could be wrong. For some reason I remember reading that. I asked my OB at my appt on Tues. if she could tell by feeling if he was still breech, but she couldn't b/c since I have diastatsis (kind of like a hernia) my uterus is behind my bowels so the only way they can tell is by u/s. I hope both of our babies flip!!

What position are your babies in? This baby has to be lying side to side (transverse). Seriously, i get kicks on both sides at the same time! My doctor hasn't said anything about position yet. Heck, i had to ask about kick counts because everything i read and people keep saying is that you should get 10 kicks in 2 hours. Well, over the weekend i hadn't felt him in awhile so i sat down and drank a pepsi and STILL only got 6 kicks in 2 hours. I finally asked him on Tuesday 'when should i worry?' He said, 10 kicks by noon and if i sit down with something to eat or drink in the afternoon or evening it should be at least 5 in an hour. Somedays this baby kicks like he wants out and other days i don't feel a thing! It's so annoying.
mimieliza- That's great that you feel so wonderful! I hope it keeps up from now until delivery. I honestly can't wait to have this baby. Not in the 'get this baby out of me' sense because i love being pg but the anticipation is killing me! I can't wait to meet him and have him to hold. I can't wait to experience the whole thing!
catgirl- I honestly don't know if they'll ever call with the lab results since he put me on the antibiotic as a precaution from the get go. The prescription is for Nitrofurantoin Mono (generic version of Macrobid) 100mg twice daily for 7 days. I actually AM feeling a little bit better today but i'm guessing that's due to actually getting some sleep... though maybe that's due to not feeling like i have to go to the bathroom every 2 seconds! It's a nasty little circle.
Lilla- I haven’t experienced any difficulty breathing. Well, occasionally I’ll sit down and I think everything gets crunched up and I can only take short breaths until it all adjusts. Nothing lasting though. I hope it’s not too annoying for you. I’m so glad you had fun at your baby shower and lucky you with another one coming up this weekend! Have a great time!! Yay for the furniture too! Things are going to really start rounding out now aren’t they?
Lilo- Wow! Thanks for all the advice! Sorry you had to deal with one (more than one) too. I’m going to take all of your advice… the irony was that I just bought orange juice. I wont open it until next week after the antibiotics so I don’t irritate things further. I never would’ve known otherwise. Thanks a lot. I hope neither of us have anymore!
Rancid- I hope your 3rd is better than your 2nd. It sucks that you had to deal with it in the 2nd tri. It’s not fun during any tri though. I had it terrible in the 1st, then a cold, then acid reflux, then a UTI. Ugh, I’m not sure how many more ailments I can stack on and that’s skipping the talk about the migraines I had at the beginning along with the change of vision in my left eye that has left things a little blurry and the eczema! Gees, I write it out and it seems worse than I remember! Lol. Eh, hopefully it all becomes a distant memory for both of us!

What position are your babies in? No idea most of the time. I do know he was lying across my abdomen the other night with his head near the upper left portion just beneath the rib cage and the legs/butt in the lower right portion of my abdomen. It felt so crazy and weird!! But other than that one instance I have no idea what position he’s in at all.

Thanks! Here's hoping! ~2 weeks into it and so far not so good. :( The eczema has flared up again on my legs (and people ask me why I don't wear shorts/short skirts!!) and I'm dealing with some slight all-over itchiness which I'm trying SO HARD not to scratch as it only irritates and reddens the skin more. I'm holding off doing any updated belly shots as a result of my red, irritated belly skin (and along the sides too).

baby's position- I asked the Dr. yesterday when they start checking position and she told me 34 weeks. She mentioned that right now he can move all around and his position doesn't really matter at this point. She did try to feel where he was since I asked and she thinks his head is up by my ribs. I guess it is still hard to tell at this point by feeling because his head and butt are about the same size. I would agree that his head is up by my ribs right now because he keeps kicking me in the cervix - OUCH!
stronger kicks- YES! Some of them are starting to get a little painful - like the kicks to the cervix and the kicks to the ribs. I have also been getting kicks to my hip bone, but only the left side.
Sorry for no SO's lately. I have been really tired the past couple weeks and it has been a struggle to concentrate. I hope everyone is starting to feel better if you have had some ailments lately!

baby position-he's stil head down--I've yet to feel any kicks/punches by my cervix--they're either up high under the ribs or on my left side. Plus he's had hiccups a few times and I always feel those really low and deep.
Can't wait til next Wednesday when I have another u/s!!!
stronger kicks-I've only had one so far that was painful. There are some (under the ribs) that are uncomfortable though. If I put my hand on my upper belly (just below my bbs) I can often feel him move which is so cool! I'm loving being pregnant, but know when I get just a little bigger I'll start to get uncomfortable.
problems breathing-me too! I get winded just walking up 2 flights of stairs at work! I think part of it is the baby pushing on my lungs, but I think most of it is because I'm out of shape now (I used to run or work out about 3 times a week, but haven't done any hard cardio since I got preg)
Baby position- I had my 32 week appt. this morning and I asked about the babys position. Apparently the little guy is head down so the hard thing I've felt under my boobs is his bum not his head like I thought.
He's measuring right on target, BP is good, weight gain = 16 pounds. My doctor's office doesn't do internals until 38 weeks.
Anyone else starting to swell? I haven't had any swelling until last week now my fingers look like fat little sausages. I was hoping to avoid swelling all together but I guess that's not happening.
Stronger kicks Yes, it hurts sometimes.
Name I think his first name will be Christian although we're still a bit up in the air. His middle name will either be my maiden name or MIL's maiden name.
Catgirl I'm sorry to hear you're having so much abdominal pain.

Anyone else starting to swell? Oh yeah! Only my ankles though. They were ENORMOUS last night. Dh and i were shocked at how big they got. I put them up for a little while and it went down a bit. They are still swollen this morning whereas they usually swell up in late afternoon/evening and then go back down to normal by morning only to repeat the cycle. I think i've reached the point where they are just going to be swollen. It's okay to wear flip flops in November, right? Seriously, no other shoes are comfortable!

Anyone else starting to swell? On occasion. I seem to swell up after even as little as a 10-minute walk in 75-80 degree heat. On our recent trip to the mountains my fingers were so swollen (likely due to the altitude) that I couldn't get my rings on in the morning even though am temps were in the 60's. My feet feel swollen in the afternoons/evenings but they don't look it at all.
Name We've decided on the first name for our little boy. Middle name still undecided though, as there are over 10 names we're currently loving. :)

We have a lot of very cool baby names in this thread!! :)
ellidew ~ I've had 2 UTIs before, never during pregnancy, but I know how painful they can be and how irritating it is to feel like you have to pee all the time. I can't imagine how much worse that is when you're PG. I hope the antibiotics kick in for you soon. Glad you're feeling better today!
Rancid ~ I'm sorry to hear about your eczema flare up. I've never had it, but DD had it bad her first year and gets occasional patches on her cheeks and behind her right knee. Is there anything you can do for it while PG? We used Aquaphor and Lansinoh (the BFing nipple lotion stuff) on DD. I think those would be fine to use during pregnancy, but don't know how well they'd work for an adult. If you decide to try Lansinoh, just be careful b/c it stains.
nic ~ Glad you had such a good check up!! That's funny about his bum being the hard thing under your ribs. They are boney little things at first. :) I really like the name Christian.
Swelling ~ Surprisingly, no. I had a lot of swelling with DD and ended up having to go up one shoe size. I bought cheap Target flip flops (she was born in early October). This time around nothing is swelling. You'd think with all the other weird cr@p my body is doing I would have swelling. :p
The abdominal pain was gone again this morning, but is creeping back up on me. With my mom over last night and today it's been an absolute nightmare getting DD down for bed last night and her nap today. I have an appt with the dietician today to talk about my GD diet. So far my b/s #s have been mediocre, even though I'm eating low carb/low sugar. We'll see what she says about that.

Aquaphore does nothing for the eczema (believe me, I have an economy sized tub of the stuff)...it has to be treated with oral steroids or topical steroid creams/lotions. The 1 steroid cream that ever really worked for my eczema is a no-go during pregnancy unfortunately, and the oral steroid I most recently took for my major all-over skin irritation can only be taken in extreme cases. I'm using a mild cream that was prescribed to me, but it does little to nothing to curb the itching and get rid of the rash. Ah well!

Sorry I haven't been around a lot. It's been busy and I've been lurking to keep up with the news.
Someone in the October thread delivered....AAAAHHHHHHHH Where did allt he time go?
baby position Last time I went to the doc, baby was in breech, sideways. I am going to start doing those exercises to help her get down to position.
Stronger kicks Holy moly. I have never had this with my last pg, but this time around, she kicks up a storm all day, all the time.
baby name haven't thought of one yet and no name is really in the running.
Aches and pains I am feeling really worn out now. The kicking seems to make me even more tired. I am exhausted all the time and I am not even very active this time around. Last pg, I was working on a stock exchange floor and was really running around the whole time and felt nothing. Now, sitting at my desk all day, I am so worn out.
breathing problems I am getting all the time also and I don't even have to be moving. When that happens, I have to shift positions or move around a little bit to dislodge the baby from that position. Sometimes I would literally have to lie down on my side.

Yeah...the warm weather seems to make it worse. Also along the same line, sweating makes it worse, which makes for a very reluctant-to-work-out me (I used to love working out~running, walking, rollerblading, using cardio machines at the gym~before my eczema first showed up a few years ago). :(

I'm trying to catch up on this thread. It's exciting that we're all getting so close now! It's been a pretty stressful last two weeks for me - mostly because of getting ready to move. But, tomorrow is finally the big day and hopefully things will calm down a bit.
I think I may have overdid it a bit with the packing and I ended up in labor & delivery last Monday to be monitored for preterm labor. I was having frequent Braxton Hicks contractions (like every 10 minutes) and then I had a sudden onset of really severe lower back pain (not normal pain like baby is poking me - it was bad enough to make me nauseous). They hooked me up to the monitors and I was having some mild contractions, but they did an internal exam and my cervix was fully closed. The back pain came in waves every 30 minutes or so and each time lasted for about 10 minutes. They monitored me for about 5 hours, did another internal to confirm I was still sealed up, then sent me home with no explanation for the back pain. I wasn't in labor and didn't have a UTI. I cried myself to sleep that night because of the pain, but I felt better the next morning and have felt better since. It was a scary experience that I hope never to repeat!
baby position - They did a sonogram when i was in l&d and it showed the baby was in head down position. I could have sworn the baby was lying transverse based on where I was feeling the kicks, but obviously I have no idea whether it's kicks or punches I'm feeling!
Stronger kicks - Oh yea! Esp when I'm lying in bed. Pow! pow! pow!
baby names - We have front runners for a boy and girl name, though we're still undecided on middle names.
Aches and pains - It's hard to sit at my desk all day. The baby is in an uncomfortable place when I'm sitting upright. Yesterday I brought an extra chair in my office and spent part of the day with my feet up to try to ease the discomfort a bit.
breathing problems - I get winded easily. I'm trying to take walks every day, but my pace has definitely slowed down in recent weeks.
My next dr appt is Sept 11.

What a scare, ppwgal! I'm so relieved to hear that all looks well though. Just don't overdo it again until after you've had the baby, ok?? ;) I'm glad to hear that the pain went away too. :)

I had my appointment today and they said everything seemed good. Her heartrate was variable, which I guess is good? The CNM said that it meant that her nervous system is working well. I'm measuring right on now, instead of ahead. If you count from my weight at the first appointment, I'm up 20 lbs. If you count from my pre-PG weight, it's more like 25. And I was 5 pounds over where I like to be at that point, so I'm now 30 pounds over my own personal ideal weight. And ten weeks of gaining to go. :rolleyes:
Took my GTT this AM so I should know the results by Monday at the latest.
My next appointment is 9/21. I'm on the two-week schedule now. :)
Question: Is anyone else still throwing up? I haven't been sick for about two months, but on Tuesday, when I was flying back from CA, I had to get up very early, ate right away, and then about three hours later, I got dizzy and clammy and puked in the terminal before even getting on the plane. Then, I got sick twice more ON the plane. Thank goodness for those little baggies, but I felt really sorry for the flight attendants who had to pick them up and for the people sitting around me. I know it wasn't motion sickness, since we weren't even off the ground the first two times. No fun! I called my midwife from the connecting airport but couldn't get her and by the time I got home, I was feeling better and have been OK since. :confused:
Baby Position: As of today's appointment, she is head down. I'm not sure if that's a permanent thing at this point, but I can see how most of the motion I feel could be her rotating on that axis and punching/kicking from there.
Baby Names: I think we've settled on a first name, but we're keeping it mum just in case. As I mentioned before, the middle name will be June, like mine, my mother's, and my grandmother's.
UTIs: I used to get these a lot before I met my husband (I think it had something to do with the chemistry of my ex) but thankfully have not had one in over five years. They are awful and all the symptoms you guys are describing sound exactly right. I hope everyone who is suffering from those can get something to feel better right away!
Stronger Kicks: She gave me one in the ribs on the plane that made me yelp and the guy sitting next to me actually asked me about it. It was the first one that hurt. Aside from that, she's pretty strong but hasn't caused me much pain.
No Swelling or Breathing Problems yet, thankfully. I guess time will tell if I can dodge them altogether.
************************************************** *******
Rancid - Sorry to hear that your skin is still bothering you. Hopefully it will get a lot better after PG. (I know: not a lot of comfort with nearly three months to go!)
ppwgal - Sorry to hear about your scare. It seems like it's easy to overdo it if you're feeling good but it always seems to catch up before too long. Take it easy!
Franni - You could just do like a friend of mine has started for my baby and just call her, "Heyu" until you come up with something better. :p
catgirl - So sorry to hear about your abdominal pain making you so uncomfortable and interfering with your time with DD. I hope you find some relief soon!

So that'll teach me to post all over (here and in my LJ) that I'm feeling great - I had a full-blown return of nausea today. I just laid on the couch and felt nasty while trying to get some work done from home. Then DH and I played the game where he suggests things for dinner and I make horrible faces and have to fight back a gag. Fun. :rolleyes:
bijou - no more throwing up, thank God. Being on a plane normally makes me feel sick, even before it starts moving (I think it's the combination of getting up at an ungodly hour and associating the plane with the motion sickness I usually feel) - luckily the only time I had to fly during pregnancy, doc had prescribed Phenergan. Have you been sick other than your plane trip?
ppwgal - I'm sorry you had a scare! It sounds like what I was dealing with about a month ago. I hope you do not have any more scary contractions to deal with.
Rancid - congrats on choosing a name! Am I remembering correctly that you're looking for a Hawaiian middle name?
nic - I love the name Christian. :)

just had to pop in real quick.
acrane- I saw your avatar and had to laugh, now that I had my son Easton. Your avatar is the exact way that he must have been laying during delivery. The doctor said that his feet were up near his head, took him a while to come out because of it. Hubby even said the same thing.

Ericka ~ CONGRATULATIONS!! Easton is such a cutie!!
mimieliza ~ Ugh - sorry to hear about the nausea. Hopefully it's a passing thing and doesn't last much longer.
bijouparvin ~ Sorry to hear about the vomiting. That's awful for it to be coming back. How have you been feeling since you've been home? I gagged a few times last week, but nothing like the m/s I had in first tri.
Franni ~ I've been feeling completely worn out, too. I wonder if it's b/c of our little toddlers?? Being PG the first time seemed much easier.
ppwgal ~ How scary! Did they give you anything to stop the BH? I had that with DD 3 times before I delivered her. I got to know all of the L&D nurses pretty well. :) I'm glad your back pain went away and hope it stays away.
I had my appt with the dietician and high risk OB yesterday. I have a better handle on what I can eat - not meat and cheese all the time like I did with DD. :rolleyes: When I met with the OB he asked about the complications I've had so far. I mentioned all of them, including the polyhydramnios, and he said he was going to mention polyhy since I look so large. He said I look full term right now. No kidding! He was really nice though. He said that my OB will probably schedule weekly NSTs to monitor Devin. I guess with polyhy the baby has so much room to move that they can get entangled in the umbilical cord and sometimes, very rarely, they can strangle themselves. :( I had the same thing with DD and her cord was wrapped around her neck twice. Now I wish I was going everyday to monitor Devin!

Bijou LOL....I like that. "Heyu" has a little bit of an Asian/Japanese flavor to it. We already have a nickname for her for now. We also had a nickname for DD#1, we went with an another name when the time came. I didn't think DD would have appreciated being named Webster. DD#2 would really need therapy if we named her Wellington. Hmmm....W's, I wonder if that's a pattern I should pursue.
Sorry to hear about your vomitting episode. I was just going to ask if anyone felt pukey recently. Although I haven't really done it, I have felt like it on and off for the last few days.
catgirl Yeah, I think it has to do with the 25 we're carrying and the extra 30 that wants to be carried around too. I don't have to heart not to pick up DD#1 when she asks though. I feel like these are the last few months that she is going to be an "only child" in the strictest sense.
I have been horrible with my diet since I always feel like I don't have time to make healthy choices.
ppwgal Hope all is well now.

I have been horrible with my diet since I always feel like I don't have time to make healthy choices.
I can totally relate to this. When I met with the dietician yesterday she asked what I was eating before I started the pseudo GD diet. I was so embarrassed to tell her that for almost every lunch I was eating fast food. It sounds stupid that you don't have time to make lunch, but with a toddler, you really don't unless you plan way ahead. I'm glad that you mentioned that b/c I was feeling really bad about the way I was eating.

Rancid - congrats on choosing a name! Am I remembering correctly that you're looking for a Hawaiian middle name?
Yep! :) Family tradition...I have a list of about 15 Hawaiian names that DH and I both like. Now we just have to narrow it down to the ONE we really like that goes with the first & last names well. 2 years ago BIL and his FI "stole" the middle name that DH really wanted, which was Kalani (also a family name~honoring an uncle). ;) So we're starting fresh...I think the name we choose might be a combination of DH's middle name (Kumukoa) and "kai" which means "the sea". We'll see.

Sorry I have been MIA. My laptop crashed, and then I came down with a nice case of bronchitis and a sinus infection. I had been sick for 8 days when I finally broke down and called my OB yesterday. He had me come in for a quick visit- so now I am on antibiotics for 10 days.
Baby looks great, HB was 157, my BP was great, blah blah blah. Is anyone else totally confused by the weight gain thing? Some people seem to be so concerned about gaining too much- but my doctor has been very concerned about me not gaining enough. This appointment was the first time he said I was perfect in the weight gain department (I have gained 20 pounds- and I am 30 weeks.) I wasn't that small to start with- 5' 7" 125 lbs. I guess I won't worry about it.
We had a 4-d u/s Friday- I will try to remember to post pictures. I need to take photos of the nursery too. It has been almost done for a few months now- we just need to hang the art and place the glider when it comes in. Maybe I'll post a few now for in-process shots.
I hope everyone is feeling well- and has a great weekend!

Hi girls!
Sorry, I was absent too, but I started work again at school and I'm very busy.
Monday I'll discover from the doctor if I'll be able to work till 22/10 or I'll have to leave on 22/9. (here working till the eight month requires the doctor's permission)
We are working at the nursery. I've got the crib for free (or better, for some bottles of wine...) from a coworker, but now we need bedding and mattress.
We are also searching for a big wardrobe.
I'll post pictures soon.
Have a nice weekend!

Ummm, I don't have a toddler and am still eating like crap. I'm just too tired to make anything! I used to eat salads every day--when I got preg the lettuc started to upset my stomach and run right through my system.
(here working till the eight month requires the doctor's permission)
I'm SO JEALOUS!!! I'd love to be off starting the end of the month. My aunt works for Pfizer and said you get 3 weeks off before and 6 weeks after the due date. I'm taking the week before my due date off (but secretly hoping he's already here by then) ;)
Today is DH's bday, but he's in Florida at a national softball tournament, he couldn't be happier! Our hospital just built 4 new floors, one is L&D, the one house is this weekend, I can't wait to check it out! The local paper described it as "hotel like" with a mini fridge, TV/DVD, private rooms and bath etc. :D

I'm jealous!! What major city do you live near, so that DH and I can relocate there ASAP in order for me to use that hospital's facilities? J/k. :D Our hospital is pretty nice with the new women's center that was completed last year, but it doesn't sound nearly as nice as yours!!

Wow, that sounds nice Sinclair! Our hospital was remodeled in the last 10 years and just in the last couple of months they refurnished the l&d and postpartum rooms with new beds and dvd players and all the equipment is new. It was a nice surprise when we did our tour! All of the rooms on the maternity floor are private... this was a necessity as far as i was concerned!

I agree! I lucked out with a private room when DD was born; it was $50 extra per night. The hospital I am delivering at this time ONLY has private rooms. I am so excited! Now I just have to luck out with a "suite" and that will have much more space and a real bathroom. The private rooms are small and no bath. It is $75 extra/night, but worth it in my book! They also include parking and a steak dinner for mom and dad your last night of the stay. :)

Ellidew!!!!~ I was just reading the lastest issue of Pregnancy magazine and happened across a Boppy ad showing....a BOY themed tummy time play pad!! Right there next to the girl one. It looks like a lily pad and is so cute! I scoured the Boppy website but found neither the girl or boy tummy time pads on there. I also did an intensive Google search which also yielded no results. Maybe it hasn't come out yet? There's still hope! Here's a pic (I scanned in the page):

I want it!! :D
Edited to add:
I just found a Boppy news release that says both tummy play pads are supposed to be available at Target and BRU as of 6/2006...I found both online at Target.com!! But nothing at BRU.com. I'm gonna get it. $24.99.

Rancid13 / Ellidew -- FYI, I was in Target this weekend and they had the boy Boppy play pad in the store. It's just as cute as the girl one, I wish I was having twins so I could buy both :)
lisainpink -- that's great about your weight gain!
Weight Gain -- When I get weighed at the dr's, they have never said anything about my weight, whether I was "on track" or not. I weighed myself the other night, and according to our home scale, I think I have gained 27 pounds :eek: from my normal pre-preg weight. I was kind of shocked. I'll see what the doctor's scale says on Tuesday, since that never matches up with the home scale.
Hospital Tour -- We're going to go on one during one of our pre-natal classes at the end of the month. I think they've done some renovations, so I hope it's as nice as some of your hospitals sound!

Boppy tummy time- I was just going to post that I saw them at Target last weekend... but I see everyone has already found it!!
Hospital rooms- Our hospital also has single rooms only. Most of the smaller one's do include a bathroom/shower, but when I was in delivering DS I got the large "corner suite" which was big but had no shower! I'd rather have the smaller one with a shower.
neenbean- I want a steak dinner too!!! :( ;) My friend who just had her daughter last week got the choice of a steak or lobster dinner for her and her hubby. My hospital offers nothing.
weight gain- Today was the first time the dr. mentioned my weight gain. I'm up 20lbs total from pre-preg. She said "your weight's kind of high, but that's ok." :confused: I think she meant my overall weight, not my weight gain during pregnancy. And believe me, I KNOW my weight is "kind of high".
scarlet- I'll have to tell DH that when our kids get older we should trade their cribs and baby toys for wine!! He'd love that idea! :D
**********************
Had my 32 week appt. this morning. As stated above, too much weight gain this month. But I'm not stressing about it. BP is good. I'll go again in 2 weeks then switch to once a week after that. I can't believe I'm less than 7 weeks away from meeting our DD!!!
Next appointment is September 22nd.
I've been shopping like crazy these last few weeks & it's got to stop! DH is going to kill me when he gets the next credit card statement. I have less than 7 weeks to go and I've spent $150 on maternity clothes in the past 2 days! I hate that. I won't be wearing them in 2 months!!!!!! Somebody stop me! :o But most of the other shopping was for DD and DS. I'm getting a ton of clearance summer clothes for DD for next year. I'm getting a variety of sizes just in case she's small or big!!
Hospital Tour- Our tour is scheduled for early October. From what I've heard all the rooms are private suites with their own bathrooms, mini-fridge and VCR.
Weight gain- I'm up 16 pounds so far. The last two visits I've gained a bit quick so I'm going to have to watch myself. I'm hoping not to gain more the 25 pounds.
Boppy tummy time- silly question but, is this Boppy different than the regular Boppy? Is it just the Boppy or does it come with everything shown inthe picture?

Shopping - Along with katnbug, does anyone else feel like you are just bleeding money? Seriously, I find myself buying something for the baby every day, and I have a long shopping list for our next BRU trip. I think it's a nesting thing - I feel this urge to get everything NOW. I'm being very restrained about clothing, though. We have nothing for 0-3 months right now, because I'm pretty sure that's mostly what I'll get at my shower.
I'm having a lot of anxiety about money right now. I'm trying to be as frugal as possible, but it's hard. Plus, my income went way down with my move to a p-t job, we will have medical bills, increased health insurance costs, and my disability pay will only cover 60% of my salary for 6 weeks. It's really going to hurt.
Not to mention, we have an auto lease that will be up in Apr. (so we need to buy a car at that point) and we're trying to save something to buy a house.
I have my fingers crossed that we're given money as gifts from DH's family - that seems to be the tradition where his family is from.
Anyway, the anxiety is really getting to me. I get frustrated because DH isn't as concerned about it as I am. I try to MAKE him worry about it so I know that I'm not the only one thinking/planning financially. He just tells me to stop buying stuff for the baby. Except, the other day when I mentioned I had nine weeks left, his eyes got big and he said, "That's it?" Yes, honey! That's why I'm begging you to get the nursery painted and the furniture set up. That's why I'm buying things like diapers and strollers and books about breastfeeding! Because we don't have a lot of time left!

Me too! I've been on such a shopping kick! I realized last week that I had some extra $$ left over from my most recent paycheck and have been buying maternity clothes and pregnancy workout dvds with reckless abandon. :eek: ON has their perfect fit v-neck tees on sale for $4.99 so I snatched up one in every color remaining (I already had black and red) because they’re so comfy.

I felt like I had to pee all.the.time. Now, I know I'm PG and that's normal, but this was different. I would go, and 2 minutes later I would feel like I had to go again right then. So, frequency but moreso the URGENCY of having to go all the time. Like I was going to pee my pants!
Also, lower back pain. Again, I'm PG - my back hurts. But it just felt like a different kind of hurt. Hard to explain.
I felt neurotic going into the doctor for the above, but in the end, I'm glad I did. I feel so much better then I did a week ago! I hope you don't have a UTI, but if you suspect you do, you are much better off just going in and letting them figure it out!

"Hi, my name is Jen and I'm a spend-aholic" "Hi Jen"
I too feel like I'm buying everything baby in site! I have restricted myself to no more maternity clothes because I know I won't get much use out of them. The hard thing is the weather is really starting to cool down, so all the tanks and tshirts I wore this summer aren't going to cut it much longer.
The good news--I bought a jogging stroller at a garage sale yesterday! I've been looking for one for awhile now and finally found it (for $35!) I also took some stuff back to Target and now have $180 credit there and $50 at JC Penneys. Seriously, why do people buy stuff that you're not registered for? My extended family on my dad's side means well, but buys stuff they like and think is cute, doesn't matter if it's what we'd like or not. Thankfully they included gift receipts!
Sorry no time for shout outs, I'm off to the open house at the hospital--here's to hoping they finish it before I go into labor (it's supposed to be done sometime in Oct). Maybe this will help keep me patient when the time gets closer! ;)

Can those of you with UTI's tell me what symptoms you are having/did have??
Not a stupid question!!! Symptoms- while pregnant: burning while urinating, very little urine-though I feel like I had to pee a lot more, having to pee way more often than "normal" while preggers, darkened urine (signs there is blood), sore lower back (usually means it is worse than just a UTI).
HTH. :o
Rancid~ super cute tummy time pad!!!!! If we didn't have a couple already, we would totally be getting that, too!
katnbug~ 20lbs isn't bad at all! My friend delivered at this hospital and said the steak was pretty good for hospital food. :p DH and I are hoping to luck out with the suite, but it is not guaranteed. :(
Spending~ I am on strict orders not to go too crazy this time. We still have so much girl stuff with tags from DD that I would feel guilty buying a lot, anyway. We have so many cool things (Robeez, sleepers, matching outfits from head to toe, cute hats, etc) that I am just excited someone else gets to wear them! :) We still need to get the double stroller, but all else is ready for baby- cradle, crib, new changing table, etc.

Thanks BethIrish and neenbean. I think the only symptom I have there is that I pee all. the. time. but I have been doing that anyways so its hard to tell if there is a difference. The reason I was asking is that I have been having a fairly good amount of pain really low. Like right over the bone but it doesn't feel like its the bone thats hurting. I would get the pain instead of the feeling like I needed to pee. If that makes any sense. There is no burning or back pain or anything else.
When it comes to stuff like this I just *love* being pregnant. :rolleyes:

Sounds to me like baby is pushing on your bladder and pelvis- causing pain and also the need to run to the bathroom. Does that make sense?
Kadee- I had really bad lower back pain with my UTI, no other symptoms I can think of.
I also went out and spent almost $200 on maternity clothes this weekend. Everything I have is for spring/summer and I'm in New England where that's just not going to cut it.
I also bought:

I keep meaning to update, so here goes! We had our showers over Labor Day weekend. A dinner at MILs on Friday night with her co-workers and friends (many who attended our wedding and have know DH since his childhood), a cookout at FIL's for his large family and a party at my Mom's for her family and our friends. A busy weekend, we got lots of clothes (some summer stuff that was 12-18 months! WTH? guess it was on sale!) and some bigger items like the highchair, a cradle, pack 'n play, ect. We got several GCs so this Saturday I went and bought the car seat, snapngo stroller and extra base. It was so nice to see our families, especially since we aren't going home for the holidays. Unfortuantely, I lost 2 of the gift lists :eek: so I am having a hard time comnpleting my thanks you notes. "Umm, I am not sure what you gave us, but we really appericate it and plan to get lots of use out of it! Thanks!"
Spending ack! We are still adjusting to our new budget since we relocated in May and I stopped working. This month all bills finally clicked and things feel comfortable again. Plus I feel guilty that I am not working right now. But how much could I work the closer I get to my EDD? Even if I had a job when we moved I would have worked for 4-5 months? We planned for me to SAH, so I wouldn't be going back to work after maternity leave anyway.
I feel like there is still so much small stuff to buy (plus a glider!), even if I avoid the stuff DS won't use for a few months. I mentioned to DH there is still a bit left on our registry. He told me to go buy it with money we have saved, but I was like maybe I should show you the registry. The stuff left isn't like $5 a piece, more like $30-$40 a piece. I keep putting off buying the glider, even though I really want one, because even the less expensive ones are a couple hundred.
I did get some fall/winter maternity clothes a few weeks ago from Gap and ON thanks to friends who sent me friends and family discount cards. (they run friends and family discount days twice a year) I just started to wear them this weekend. A good thing since I love fall clothes and I am outgrowing some of my summer mat clothes.
BTW, Old Navy is having a 25% off sale in maternity and baby clothes.
Since the weather has changed, my sinuses are going crazy and I am getting the start of a sinus infection. I usually get at least 2 a year, but I hoping to fend this one off. It is difficult to do since I am trying to only take Sudafed, ect when I really need, not a regular basis like I should to stop the infection. This week I have a check up on Thursday, an US on Friday morning to check placental location and birthing class Friday night and Saturday day. Busy baby week!
Hospital Tour- Our tour is scheduled for mid October. We would’ve taken one earlier but they fill up really fast! The maternity ward is pretty new and supposedly very nice. All of the rooms are private, which is great. My girlfriend delivered in the same hospital last year and she’s said it’s like staying at a hotel so I’m happy to hear that.
Weight gain: I’ve gained about 21 pounds so far, which I’m happy about. My goal is to keep the weight gain at 30 pounds or 35 pounds. I should be able to do that with only 10 more weeks to go, especially since a lot of sugary foods bother my stomach these days so I can’t pig out even if I wanted to!
Shopping: Count me in as spending more $$$$ on maternity clothing lately. I tried on some of my maternity pants from the first trimester that didn’t have a panel and they fit but were super uncomfortable. I find pants or capris just not that comfortable, in general, so I’ve bought a few more maternity dresses and skirts that will take me into the fall season. Luckily I drive to work and my office is very, very warm (even during the dead of winter) so I won’t need to buy any thick sweaters, pants or a coat. I did buy a few thin long-sleeved shirts from Gap but those are mostly for the weekends. I’ve been pretty good on not buying too much baby gear since I’m hoping we get the majority of things from all of my showers. I have bought a few really cute outfits for him that I know we wouldn’t get from anyone but it’s not too too bad. I think the amount of money I’ve spent on maternity wear though has done enough damage. Whoops. But I figure that I’ll be wearing a lot of the clothing for a few months after delivery too (especially tops) so I’ll get some more mileage out of them.
Kadee_29: When you pee, does a lot come out? Or just a few drops? Like everyone else said, it could be the baby just putting a lot of pressure on your bladder at this point. As a precaution, I would suggest drinking a ton of water, maybe drinking some 100% cranberry juice, just in case there is some bacteria trying to linger around. If you start getting any pain/burning while urinating, definitely go see the doctor. They can check to see if it’s an infection really quickly. As you probably read, I’ve had one too many UTIs during the pregnancy and before pregnancy and have never had lower back pain.
Nic: Cute purchases. I love the hat. Very hip. :)
------------------------------------------------
Had my 30 week doctor’s appointment today and it went well. I really like my doctor so it’s just like seeing an old friend every time I go in for a visit. BP was normal and weight gain wasn’t bad. The best news is that I passed my glucose test!! Yay! I’m so happy about that since I was so stressed out about it. I’m measuring right on target, which is also good to hear. I go back in 3 weeks and then after that it’s every two weeks.
My first shower is this weekend, which I’m super excited about. I'm a bad person and peeked at the registry yesterday. That’s very bad, I know. But I was so excited to see that all of our big things have already been purchased! Yeah! I wasn’t sure if someone would buy our stroller, expensive baby monitor and car seat but they were in fact bought, much to our delight. There are still a ton of items to purchase but nothing that would be a big deal if we had to buy ourselves.
Next weekend we’re taking a “Parents with Pets” class at our hospital, which should be fun and hopefully informative. Not sure if anyone else has a dog, but we have an adorable 3 year old beagle who just loves being the center of attention at all times. He’s great with babies and kids but it will definitely be an adjustment.
Question: Has everyone decided on a pediatrician? I really need to do this but have been procrastinating for some reason. My goal is to have one picked out by the end of this month.

I try to go as soon as I feel the need to go so it's never a lot. I have been working on drinking more this weekend but the pain is still there. The pain is for the most part bad enough that I have to stop whatever it is I am doing and just breathe. It doesn't matter if I am sitting, standing or laying down. I was ok for a while this morning but when I was in the shower it started up again so I think I am going to go ahead and call the dr.
I totally forgot to add that ON is also giving free shipping if you spend more than $75 on maternity/baby items. Add me to the list of spenders. :rolleyes:
Hmm, I wonder if maybe you have an overactive bladder right now because of the pregnancy. I've had that feeling of pressure of having to go every second but not a lot coming out. Sometimes eating low-fat yogurt could help since it contains the good bacteria acidophilus (you can also buy the tablets at CVS).
I'm glad you called the doctor. It's definitely worth checking out. It's no fun being in pain like this, I know!

We had our first shower yesterday- the one that our couple friends attended. The theme was a book shower and that was loosley interpreted by everyone. A couple people got us a bunch of books, a couple people brought a book and something else and a couple didn't bring a book at all. But we were very happy with what we got.
We got some great books starring the Care-Bears (our nickname for Carys), a Richard Scarry book, an original Winnie the Pooh book, a few books about animals and Baby Beluga.
Some other things we got were the rain cover for our stroller, a jolly jumper, a safety kit (brush, nail clippers, tweezers, thermometer), some adorable ballerina socks, organic soap and powder for babies, a cute printed onesie and a beautiful white snowsuit from Mexx. (Pics of everything in my journal)
When I got home from the shower, there was a huge box in the living room- Joel's grandparents bought us our highchair! So exciting that it's coming together!
We have an OB appointment on Wednesday where they should have the results of my 3 hour GTT. Hopefully, it's a good sign that I haven't heard anything yet.

Our hospital tour yesterday was awesome--it may be the one way I stay patient when the time comes--they're not supposed to open until Oct 15th. Here's to hoping that they stay on schedule! It looks like a hotel rather than a hospital, I really hope I get to deliver there!
Roberta-I know a lot of friends mentioned their babies outgrew the sizes. For example, my newphew is 6 1/2 months old, but already wearing 9 month clothing. Maybe you will get to use some of those summer clothes next year???
lilo-yea for passing your test!
Sarah-Glad to hear the shower went well--doesn't it make it feel more real with baby stuff in the house?
We start our child birth class tonight, then have another u/s on Wednesday! I can't wait to see Corbin again!

Question: Has everyone decided on a pediatrician? I got a recommendation from dh's cousin who's a family doctor. It's the same doctor she takes her two girls to and it's only like 2 miles from our house! I JUST called and made an appointment to meet the doctor and the staff. We have an appointment for Sept 22nd. Now i have to come up with a list of questions to ask!
Same goes for day care questions since i've slacked there too!

kadee- If you are in pain i'd call the doctor. I'd go 100 times a day and each time i went it was because the feeling was completely overwhelming but then i'd only go like 4 drops! Then before i could even leave the bathroom i'd have the feeling again. Somedays i stood up and literally sat right back down! It's been better the last couple of days and i only have another day or 2 of antibiotics left. I didn't sleep AT ALL either because i constantly felt like i had to go to the bathroom. I only had a burning sensation a couple of times.
Sinclair- Glad the hospital tour went well! I hope you get to deliver there as well!
Sare- Sounds like you had a great shower! How exciting about the high chair too! I hope you pass your 3 hour... can't wait to hear the results!
lilo- congrats on passing the GTT!!

Sinclair DH said the same thing, that he may outgrow his clothes. So I am not returning any clothes. If they don't fit in the right season, I can always consign them! I hope construction at the hospital satys on track and you are able to deliver there. It sounds nice!
kadee I hope the doctor can get you in for a urinanalysis and that you feel relief soon!
Glad to hear the other mommies with UTI are feeling better
sare The book shower sounds like it as a nice time with friends.
With all of the showers being held, nurserys getting ready, birth classes and hospital tours; it is starting to feel like we are getting closer. Our babies will be here before we know it!
Oh, I just found out I passed the 1 hour GTT. The results were sitting in a pile of mail I hadn't opened. oops.
picking a ped Haven't done this yet and I have no clue since we ar new to the area. There are several offices very clsoe to our house. I am sure I will choose someone nearby for convience sake. I need to ask my neighbor who she sees.

Ellidew~ Yay for the Boppy tummy time pad! It’s so cute, I’m glad that ad in the magazine found me when it did! :)
Sare~ I love the Graco travel systems! We’re either getting the same one you got, or one of the green-colored ones, depending on what’s available at BRU. Sounds like you got a lot of neat stuff at the shower, I like the idea of a book shower! I’m keeping my fingers crossed for your 3-hr GTT results.
Sinclair~ Score on the jogging stroller!! I’ve been holding off buying baby-related items until after my shower this weekend, because I don’t know what-all everyone is buying and don’t want to get something that someone else bought me, KWIM?? :o
Kadee~ The only symptom I had when I had a UTI 5 years ago was a burning sensation at the tail end of urinating. Otherwise, I didn’t have the urge to go more often or anything else.
Nic~ Cute outfits!! Love the little pants!!
Roberta~ Glad to hear your showers went well, it sounds like you got a lot of the necessities taken care of. Uh-oh, ON’s having a 25% off sale? Not what this maternity-wear shopoholic needs to hear right now. Guess I know what I’m doing today, LOL! I'm a sucker for that stuff right now, what can I say? :rolleyes: Congrats on passing the GTT!!
Hospital tour~ I don’t think we’re doing one of these, as our hospital doesn’t offer them. However, we attended an orientation & tea a couple months ago in the hospital’s conference center which answered a lot of questions, and they gave us pamphlets with even more information. Our birth classes will be held at the same location, so we’ll have plenty of time to look around and get familiar with the layout, etc.
Lilo~ Congrats on passing the GTT!! That’s always good news!!
Weight gain~ I’ve gained right around 20lbs thus far. I was hoping to keep my total weight gain around 25lbs (dr gave me a range of 25-30 as a “healthy gain range”) but I’m not so sure that’ll happen. I’ve been making an effort to eat better (I’ve actually been eating spinach & grilled chicken salads in lieu of McD’s or Taco Bell!), have cut out a lot of sugary snacks, and have been walking 20-30 minutes daily PLUS doing 30 minutes of yoga or pilates 4 times a week. Not sure what more I can do other than stop eating, which I have no plans to do, LOL!! It’s hard, because I feel like I’m always hungry no matter how filling my meals are. :eek:
Question: Has everyone decided on a pediatrician? No…DH lost the pediatrician sheet the ob gave us at our last appt. We have another this Friday, I’ll have to ask her for a replacement sheet so we can get started on that.
Spending~ YES!! I’m getting to the point where some of the maternity tops I’ve been wearing for the last few months aren’t long enough to cover the maternity panel in my jeans, so I’m having to buy longer shirts in order to not look tacky or have any belly hang showing. And I’m getting more t-shirts than tank tops because I feel like my upper arms are really growing in size and I don’t care to show those off at the moment. I’ll probably get a couple sweaters and a hoodie too, since winter’s coming up even though the weather is pretty mild in SoCal in the winter so I can get away with wearing t-shirts year round. :eek:
Now i have to come up with a list of questions to ask!
Questions! I didn't even think about that. Ellidew, would you mind sharing some of the questions you come with to ask the pediatrician? I am so clueless about these things. I woudn't even know what to ask or what would constitute a good answer.

nic ~ Cute clothes! Where did you get the adorable little hat?
roberta ~ Your post made me laugh, esp re losing the gift lists. Yikes! That would make TY notes hard to write. Congrats on passing the 1 hour GTT!!
lilo ~ Congrats on passing the 1 hour GTT!! That "Parents with Pets" class sounds like a great idea. Let us know how it goes. I have 3 cats and they adapted to DD fairly well - they mostly run away from her.
kadee ~ I'm sorry you're experiencing that pain. I've had UTIs in the past and had symptoms that everyone else mentioned. Hopefully your doctor can help you out.
Sare ~ Sounds like you got a lot of cute stuff for your shower. I think I know which ballerina socks you got, but I can't remember the brand name. DD has some too and they are adorable on.
Sinclair ~ That's cool about the hospital being brand new and looking like a hotel. Have fun at your class!
Rancid ~ Spinach and grilled chick salad sounds good! I was on a huge fast food kick for awhile there. Now the thought of McD's grosses me out.
Pediatrician ~ We'll obviously keep the one we have for DD. We did start off at another practice, but after 3 months switched to a new Ped. At the old practice I told one of the docs that I wanted to BF for at least 12 months and he said, "You don't need to do that. Six months is fine." :eek: Why would a doctor try to discourage a mom like that? Then he told me that allergies couldn't pass through BM, which I knew was hooey so we switched. Turns out DD is allergic to dairy. Hmmmm....
31 week appt was today ~ I had an awesome appt. I had an u/s to check my amniotic fluid since it was high last time and I had problems with that with DD. It dropped!! It was 22.5 (24 is polyhydramnios) and today it was 18, which is perfect! Devin weighs approx 4 lbs. 8 oz. which is the 70th percentile. U/S can be off +/- 1 lb. though. He has a big head, but so does DD. She's always been in the 99th percentile for head measurement. :) My BP was 138/82 so they checked again after I laid down on my left side for awhile and it dropped to 118/86 (yay!!). They want me to start coming in weekly for NSTs (non-stress tests) since I have GD and my BP has been erratic. Oh, and I lost 3 lbs. being on the GD diet. It looks like I'll end up gaining less than I did with DD. The OB I saw today (there are 3 who deliver and I rotate) said that he doesn't expect me to go past 37-39 weeks. :eek: I told him that I'm not ready for another baby yet and I was hoping he'd be late. He said that most 2nd time moms deliver at 37-39 weeks, but if I do make it to 40 they'll probably induce b/c of the GD and erratic BP. Maybe I'll have a Halloween baby...
ETA: Forgot to mention that Devin isn't breech anymore! Now he'd better just stay put!! :)
Quick Question for ROs: In most books and on most websites I've read, they say that women gain about a pound a week in the last trimester. How true was this in each of your cases? Did you really gain a pound a week? less? more? I have 10 more weeks to go and honestly do not want to gain 10 more pounds nor can I imagine gaining so much in so little time. But then again, I've never gone through this and may totally off base with my expectations. I can see gaining maybe 5 more pounds of baby but 10 pounds sounds excessive me. Opinions?
TIA! :)

I think I gained 5-7 lbs. in 3rd tri, but I was also on a GD diet and that slowed down my weight gain. I gained most of my weight in 2nd tri. I don't remember getting a lot bigger all over in 3rd tri, just more of the baby sticking out and a lot of discomfort b/c of that, esp the last 2 weeks.

Unfortunately, I can't remember exactly how much I gained in my 3rd tri last time, but I know I lost weight some weeks and gained others. I also outgrew the majority of my maternity clothing during those last few weeks. I was VERY swollen with water weight from head to toe, so that was more my problem than fat or baby weight. KWIM? I think if you continue to be consevative in your diet (don't binge too much) and avoid extra salt, you will probably gain 10lbs or less per week. Your OB can help ensure you do not blow-up over the last couple months.
catgirl1007~ that is awesome to hear DS is no longer breech! Great news on your weight, too. Is it scary to think your lil' guy may come in October??
Pediatrician~ we have one for DD, so we plan to continue with him until we move next June. However, DH has not been told where we are moving, so it will be a rush to find a new one at that point. :eek:
Hospital Tour~ we have not scheduled one and it did not even occur to us to do so until you all mentioned it! I have been to the hospital's ER with DD, but not to the nusery or seen the L & D unit. A friend delivered there, so I have seen her room, but that was so long ago, I can't remember anything.:rolleyes:
Lilo & Roberta~ congratulations on passing the Glucose test!!! I get my results this Friday.

Rancid ~ Spinach and grilled chick salad sounds good! I was on a huge fast food kick for awhile there. Now the thought of McD's grosses me out.
Yeah, it does! :D That was my favorite lunch for a long time running until I got pg, then I was suddenly turned off salads and all things healthy, for that matter. It was Taco Bell and McD's galore, but now that I'm past the 2nd trimester, greasy food sounds less appetizing and salad sounds good again (yay!). I put baby spinach, a handful of grape tomatoes, a few slices of red onion, 1/2 of an avocado, and 1/2 a bag of those prepackaged grilled chicken strips in my salad, drizzled with a honey-dijon dressing. Mmmm, getting hungry again just picturing it.
Yay for less amniotic fluid and for a good overall dr's appt! I'm always happy to hear good news!!

:eek: pediatrician- We picked our pediatrician about a month ago. We had to have one picked out to put on our pre-registration form for the hospital and my OB's office was telling me to pick one.
weight gain- I have gained about 13 pounds according to the Dr's office. I keep waiting for this pound a week thing to happen, but it just hasn't. I have been wondering about the lack of weight gain and keep forgetting to ask the OB about when I go in for an appt. They haven't said anything about my weight at all so I figure if they aren't concerned, I will try not to worry about it either. I was at the top end of my weight range for my height when I got pregnant so that could be a reason they aren't worried about it.
lilo- I know you didn't ask me, but some of the questions I asked the pediatrician were centered around the things that I feel strongly about. For example - We are not circumcizing our son and I was curious where they stood on the to circ/not to circ issue. I plan to breastfeed and I asked when they get concerned about baby not gaining weight and if they then recommend supplementing with formula. Are they willing to work on the breastfeeding with me to make sure I continue trying instead of telling me to give up. Some people asked about giving antibiotics for ear infections. Other people have concerns about recommended vaccines and the ability to not have their child vaccinated, etc. If you have particular things you feel strongly about you may just want to ask the Ped. about those things to see if your ideas/values match. I also asked why they went into Pediatrics - I wanted to make sure they actually liked children ;).
Spending- I have slowed down on the baby clothes finally :o. However, I realized this weekend that I bought a fleece sleeper that I already have. I blame it on pregnancy brain. I do feel like I have quite a bit of stuff left to get, but I am trying to hold off and see if I get some out our shower. The only problem is it is not until the end of October :eek:. It is going to be very difficult for me to restrain myself.
catgirl- I am so happy to hear that some of the issues you were having are going away! I hope your BP continues to stay down and fluid levels stay normal. If my doctor told me I would deliver between 37-39 weeks I would probably faint. I already feel like I don't have enough time left to get everything in order. I hope Devin holds out for a while!
Hospital Tour- We will get a tour when we go to our Birth and Education class in mid October. I have heard from other people that the rooms are very nice. I think they are all private, have a mini fridge with snacks, CD players, and maybe even DVD players. I think they all have tubs in them too to use during labor - I could be wrong about that though.
QOTD - Is anyone using a doula or thinking about hiring one?- I have started to wonder if DH is going to be able to handle the whole labor experience by himself. I plan on trying to go unmedicated and have been reading up on Hypnobirthing and Bradley. I think I might use a mixture of the techniques. They require quite a bit of support from your birthing partner and I just don't know if DH is going to be able to stand strong if I start to cave and want an epi. I was thinking a doula might help take the pressure off of him and help with techniques to cope with the pain. He seems reluctant about hiring a doula though. Just curious if anyone has experiences to share or plan on using a doula. [I am not totally against getting an epi - if I can't handle the pain I am all for pain relief]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
DH had his interview with GE this past Friday. We found out today that he was not selected for hire. I am disapponted for him because I know he really wanted the job and it would have been nice to have the security of two incomes. On the other hand I am relieved we don't have to do a mad dash to find daycare. I really do like the fact that DH will be home with DS when I have to go back to work.
neenbean ~ Yep, the thought of Devin arriving in October scares the cr@p out of me. I was really looking forward to going full term or later. As it is now my bday is in Oct., DD's is the day after mine, and our wedding anniversary is also in Oct. Fun & crazy month for us. :)
Rancid ~ That salad sounds delicious! I'm going to copy what you wrote and email it to DH so he can make it for me. :) He does most of our cooking.
RubberSoul ~ I'm sorry you're DH didn't get the job with GE, but it must be a big load off your mind knowing he'll be home for your DS.
Doula ~ We've hired one. I have my 2nd pre-natal appt with her on Wed. I have to have NCB b/c I can't have an epidural. I ended up having to be induced with DD and it was quite painful. I really wanted a doula this time around so that she can help me with breathing and working through the pain. I've also ordered the Pink Kit (http://www.birthingbetter.com/). At this time I think it's only available through NZ or Australia, but my doula found another doula who purchased some and was reselling them. I couldn't take Bradley classes b/c they're 12 weeks long and there's no way I'd find childcare for DD for 12 evenings. So I've ordered the Pink Kit DVD and workbook. It should arrive in the next few days.
Rancid ~ That salad sounds delicious! I'm going to copy what you wrote and email it to DH so he can make it for me. :) He does most of our cooking.
It's really good! I had been getting grilled chicken salads from McD's for awhile, but realized that they had far too much iceburg lettuce (which I hate) in them, and far too little tomatoes and chicken (which I looove) so I decided to start making my own salads. I added the onion for crunchy flavor and avocado b/c it's just so yummy. Salads are fun b/c you can add whatever strikes your fancy to it and create your own work of art. I'd also like to try adding little orange slices and/or raisins too...DH used to have me make him "my salad" to take to work with him until just the thought of salads made me queasy for the last ~6 mos. :D
Anyone chosen GODPARENTS yet???
I am totally stressing about this one. :( It was an easy choice for DD- my BFF and her DH are her godparents. DH loves them, too, so it was a no brainer. Now that DC#2 is on the way, we need to find someone else that we feel as (or nearly as) strongly about, but can't think of any men to be Godfather! I have several girlfriends that would be great, but none have DH's that my DH likes. :o Plus, all of DH's buddies are not really good candidates for various reasons. We would ask his brother, but he is under the same list as the rest of his buddies. My sis's BF would be great, but we don't know how long they will be together, despite talk of marriage.
FYI: DH is in the military, so we move very often and possibly anywhere in the world. We need to find someone who is going to keep in touch with our child and be as much a part of their life as they can under these circumstances.
Quick update then I am heading to bed...
I called the ob and they thought it was best for me to go get monitored because she asked about BH contractions and how often I was getting them. When I got to L&D they checked for infections and there isn't one which is a good thing. I am not having regular contractions and I am not dialating at all so everything is fine. They ran the FFN test to check for pre-term labor and that came back negative as well so they said everything seems fine and that I could go home to rest. They have no clue what is going on other than the baby being a pain. ;)
I will be back tomorrow to catch up on everything I missed.
girls, your baby purchases are so sweet...
I had my appointment yesterday and all is ok, the baby is well, the placenta is finally high and I'll be able to work till the 22nd of October.
My next appointment will be on 11st October
I've had a stomach bug with high temperature in the weekend that left me very weak (I was 2 days sick at home from work). I still have tummy ache so the doctor gave me some pills of Scopolamine (Hyoscine). My tummy is also still not ok and I keep eating only boiled rice or potatoes and apples. I really hope I'll be better soon.
But we did a baby shopping too, buying a big wardrobe from Ikea (I'll post pictures of the nursery soon) and this changing table that has a bath in it:
Choosing a pediatrician - (hangs head :o ) - to be honest, with DS I chose a pediatrician from our insurance provider list, and we never even met her until the day after I delivered! I wanted to add this to the list of questions. It's important to me at least...
*Are healthy newborns in for a routine check up taken to a private room or do they wait in the waiting room?
Personally i'd prefer my newborn not be waiting in the waiting room with other sick children. I know some doctors offices have sick and wellness rooms while others just take you to an examining room right away.
choosing a ped--I'm jealous you guys get to do this! With our clinic, you don't choose until *after* the baby is born. And several of the really well known ones aren't taking new patients. I do have a list recommended by friends, so hopefully I'll get one of them.
sick vs well rooms-That sounds awesome! It makes so much more sense than having a well baby sit in a room full of sickies! I'll have to ask about this, thanks for bringing it to my attention.
Here is my finalized list of questions for the ped. We have an appt next Friday to go in and meet him. He's going to really have to have a personality i can't get along with or have terrible answers to these questions for us to not go with him. He was recommended by dh's cousin who's a doctor and she takes her two girls to him. He's also about 2 miles from our house!
I tweaked some of the questiosn acrane posted and added some as well. I already know some things about the doctor like i know he's in a solo practice with 1 nurse practitioner. I know he's board certified, etc...
About the doctor:
· How long have you been in practice?
· Do you have any subspecialties?
· Do you have children?
· How do you keep up with the latest medical advances?
· Do you see newborns in the hospital or at the first office visit?
· When should the first office visit after leaving the hospital be made?
· Which hospitals are you affiliated with?
· How do we reach you if our child gets sick after hours? What about in the case of an emergency?
· Who covers for you when you are not on call?
· Do you respond to email? Does the nurse practitioner?
· How long has the nurse practitioner been practicing?
· Whom would we normally see at a routine visit, yourself or the nurse practitioner?
· What are your views on: (Liberal/Conservative/Somewhere in the middle)
Breastfeeding vs. Bottle feeding
Circumcision
Immunizations
Antibiotics
Parenting Methods
Medical Testing
· What is your typical method of handling childhood illnesses? Are you hands on or do you take the wait and see approach?
· Are you more inclined to give directions or options?
· Do you welcome questions?
· Is time set aside at appointments to discuss questions and/or concerns?
· Will you be available for discussions on my child’s behavioral developments? (Discipline issues, social development, etc…)
About the Practice:
· What are your hours?
· How long does it usually take to get a routine office visit?
· What about an emergency office visit?
· How long do patients typically wait in the waiting room?
It is a religious thing, I guess. We are not super religious, nor were my parents but I have Godparents. In my case, they were/are more like an aunt and uncle to me. My Godmother would care for us whenever my mother traveled without us. DD's Godparents are close, close friends and are also like aunt and uncle to her. DH and I each have one sibling, so it is like extended family for us.
catgirl Hope the pain has subsided – good news about less fluid, that sounded scary!
katnbug Glad the nursery is coming together – I think that nesting is a good excuse to spend, at least that is what I keep telling myself.
Bijouparvin Cute pics! You were brave to go out there with belly exposed..it looks cold. Sorry to hear about your sickness…I was very worried that the morning sickness would come back when we went to Venice.
Rancid Sorry to hear about the pain and the itchyness. Hope you find some kind of relief!
Ellidew Yuck! UTIs are horrible. Hope you are feeling better. Sounds like the nursery is coming along.
Lydia Cute pic!
Acrane Great name! But then I’m biased as Matthew is DHs name ;)
lilo Congrats on passing the GTT!
Lilla Glad to hear the shower went well.
Mimieliza I hope the baby changes position, I guess there is still time? The money thing worries me too…I guess we are just making up for the fact that we won’t be running around buying that much in the first few months!
ppwgal Gosh, pre-term labor how scary! Hope baby stays put for awhile longer.
Ericka Jarret Congrats on Easton!
Lisainpink I’ve only ever had one sinus infection (touch wood) but it isn’t a time I would want to go through again. Hope the antibiotics are helping.
Scarlett Glad to hear you are well enough to work until Oct 22nd. Hope that it’s what you wanted. Sorry to hear about your bad tummy…must be awful craving other things but only being able to eat rice and potatoes.
Sinclair That hospital sounds amazing! I’m not even sure our local birth centre has TVs!
Sare Score on getting the travel system at a discount! Glad to hear the shower went well.
Roberta Glad to hear the showers were good…minus the missing gift lists. Yikes!
Rubbersoul Sounds like it’s gonna work out that your DH didn’t get the job but at least he went for it and won’t think “what if?” in the future.
I hope I didn’t miss anybody! Thanks for all the compliments on the pictures.
Time flying by Now that I am 30 weeks I do feel like time is flying by…can’t believe I’m ¾ of the way through!
Stronger kicks Yes! Sometimes to the point of sounding like I’ve just been punched..DH will look around at me as if to say “what’s wrong” and then he realizes it’s just the baby playing trampoline on my uterus!
Difficulty breathing I was just talking to my mom about this! I feel like I can’t take a full, deep, breath.
Tomorrow I have an appointment with my midwife. We also start our childbirth classes tomorrow night. I’m pretty excited and very nervous as this means delivery time is getting closer. As much as I want to meet the baby, I just love providing everything he/she needs right now in my belly!
I have started to get this weird feeling low down on the left side of my belly where the thigh connects. It isn’t a pain but more like a tight feeling or pressure feeling. It is very localized. I am going to mention it to the midwife tomorrow. Other than that things are fine.
Ah, I see! When my parents would go out of town, they would just have our grandparents, aunts/uncles, or good family friends care for us...it was never any 1 person (or 1 set of people). My parents are religious in that they're Christian and attend church every Sunday and we were raised as such, but there were any religious rituals other than church that we did together. (I'm not religious anymore). I talked to DH and although he was raised Catholic, he and his siblings never had godparents either. It sounds like it's a bit of a ritualistic thing, for peace of mind, perhaps? :)
Anyone chosen GODPARENTS yet??? This was a big deal for us. Okay, maybe not a BIG deal but it was open for discussion even before the baby was conceived.
Long explanation coming...
Basically, i was raised catholic and he was raised lutheran. I don't believe 100% in the faith i was brought up in. I've also come to realize that there isn't a religion out there that i can believe 100% in. Basically, i'm agnostic because i believe there could be a god while at the same time thinking there might not be. Make sense?
Well, dh isn't religious (in the sense that he studies the bible and attends church regularly) but he does believe in the faith he was brought up in and he doesn't second guess things like i do.
We discussed for a long time what to do about our somewhat split religious beliefs and he kept telling me that he wanted our child baptised but would never give me a reason why. Finally he fessed up that (his belief) is that if you aren't baptised you will go to hell and if there IS a god isn't it better to be safe than sorry? He doesn't want our child to go to hell. (kind of a sweet sentiment actually)
I respect my husband and his beliefs so our agreement was that he would join a church and we would baptise and raise our child in that faith of which i would take an active role outside of actually becoming a member being reconfirmed in a different religion, etc... As a family we will reinforce Christian beliefs.
Now, if you can imagine the time and energy that went into making that decision then you will understand why we haven't even yet discussed who will actually be the godparents. We're still exhausted from making the decision to baptise our child! lol.
Godparents ~ I wonder if this is weird... my BFF and bro are DD's godparents. DD was only 6 weeks old when she was baptized. We had approx 22 ppl at the church and over to our house afterwards. It seemd to me that the specialty of the day was lost in the celebration if that makes any sense. I'm Methodist & DH is Lutheran. We go to a Methodist church. I could be wrong, but I think the practice of having godparents is more of a Lutheran/Missouri Synod and Catholic practice, right? I'm thinking for DS that DH and I will get him baptized at church, and then we'll just have our parents over afterwards. Is that weird? I guess we chose godparents b/c that's what everyone seems to do, but my bro is not religious at all and my BFF is Catholic and moderately religious so I know it was a big deal for her. I think I like the idea of me, DH & DD being there for DS's baptism, and then just immediate family afterwards.
kadee ~ I'm so glad your weren't in PTL or anything like that! How are you feeling today?
scarlett ~ That is such a cool bath/changing table set up! I never thought of looking at Ikea for baby stuff.
Sick/Well waiting rooms/Peds ~ Both Peds we've gone to have these and it is a great perk! I don't think I asked the right questions when we chose our 1st Ped, but that was b/c I had zero clue about babies. Now that I've gone through a bunch of stuff with DD (allergies, illnesses, BFing issues, etc.), I've found that the things that are most important to us are knowledge of and support of extended BFing, excellent knowledge of allergies in infants, willingness to delay or not give certain vaxes, a holistic approach to medical treatment. We clicked well personality wise with our first Ped practice, but just didn't see eye to eye on other issues. Sometimes it's hard to know for sure until you've had your baby in for various appts.
Rancid ~ I know... I get in trouble everytime I go to the Gymboree web site. We were at Gymbo music class today and I was trying to figure out when I need to re-enroll so that I can get more Gymbucks. :o
As much as I want to meet the baby, I just love providing everything he/she needs right now in my belly!
Peaches ~ It's so good that you're enjoying this now. I don't think I truly did with DD until I delivered and realized how much harder it was to provide for her. Then I missed having her in my belly. :(
So, I guess I will have to face the fact that I will never be able to catch up with you guys! :( Please know that I do try and read up as much as I can even though I don’t post as often. It has just been so impossible to spare a minute at the office to do replies and such. Needless to say, it has been quite a crazy month for me! And it will continue to get crazier and crazier, I'm sure.
I hope all of my fellow November mama’s are doing well, though! We are almost there! Woohoo! :D
So, let’s see…
Since my last post, I have done the following:
- Purchased crib and mattress, finally.
- Had my baby shower [Our Target registry was wiped out which totally blew us away!]
- Had my 32 week check up. HB good, weight good, urine good, fundal height good, BP good. So far, so good!
- Still taking blood sugar numbers a few days a week. I’ve done amazingly well with it and have managed to avoid insulin.
- Pre-registered at the hospital.
- On my second to last birthing class tonight. Next week is the birthing center tour.
- Finalized my Short Term Disability and FMLA paperwork.
Sounds like quite a bit, but the funny thing is that I still feel so unprepared with 6 to 8 more weeks to go! Yikes!! Time is definitely a’flyin!:eek:
I guess I am a little stressed out, too. Not only do we have a baby to get ready for, but we close on our new house on October 23rd and then on top of that, my DH just got a new job –- not that that is really a big issue since it is definitely a HUGE bonus for us [it actually enables me to be a SAHM for sure!] but the whole list of “life changes” occurring all at once is just a tad bit much for me to take in right now. I hope we are able to manage it all without going crazy! Or maybe it's too late, already?! heh. ;)
But I digress…
Catching up on QOTD's – sorry, I’m going wayyy back so please bear with me!
Coming home outfit: Can you believe that we have NOT even thought about this? Bah. Are you all going for newborn sizes? I’ve heard that preemie sizes will fit them perfectly and won't look like they are sinking in their outfits. Anybody going that route? I was thinking of actually bringing both sizes – just in case.
Stronger kicks: Yes, definitely. It seems as if I am being beat up in the inside – all over the place! Sometimes it tickles and other times, it is just plain weird. I wish I could distinguish which body part I am actually feeling, though.
Position of baby: When we had the 3d/4d ultrasound at close to 29 weeks, she was head down. I am not quite sure if she is still in the same position as I hear that they can keep turning around until like, the 36th week mark.
Swelling: Not so much. My ankles get a bit puffy when it is warm out, but other than that, I haven’t really had any swelling issues. Of course, this may change in a couple of weeks!
Baby names: We have one, but it’s a surprise! :p
Boppy Pad: I got both the Boppy Gym and the Boppy Pad for my shower – they are incredibly cute and we cannot wait to put it to use!
[B]Hospital rooms: Fortunately, our hospital only has private rooms, too.
Weight gain: I haven’t done toooooo bad with the weight gain. The GD diet has helped out a lot with that, though. I think my total weight gain so far is 18 lbs. My goal is 25 lbs total but I don’t think that’s happening! LoL! Oh well.
Shopping: Well, I am a shopaholic in general so it was very apropos for me to have a girl! It is so hard not to spend money on her! It’s a good thing we got really awesome gifts at our shower – we can hold off on shopping for a little bit! I hear ON is having quite a sale right now, too. Ahhhh, wayyy to tempting!!
Pediatrician: We are in the midst of moving to another city shortly after the baby is born so we are going to have the neo-natal doctor at the hospital as her “stand in pediatrician” until we find one in our new city. I am in the process of doing mass research as we speak. It has been a draining process. Thank you SO much for posting your questions – that will definitely come in handy when we have our interviewing process with potential pediatricians.
Godparents: Siiigh. No. We are both Catholic so obviously this will be something we’ll need to do eventually. I have a few people in mind – but I have to make sure DH agrees with my choices.
…
Have any of you packed your bag(s) for the hospital yet?
DH and I plan on doing this soon. I know that if we do it last minute, we’ll forget the most important things. That is just so typical of us. As far as what we’ll be packing is another story. We are clueless!
ellidew/hosp list ~ I think that's a perfect list. I didn't end up using 1/2 of what I brought last time. The only thing I might skip, and this is just my personal preference, is the nightgown. I brought one last time but never wore it. I ended up wearing the hospital gowns the entire time. You might want to add cell phone to the list. I don't know if hospitals charge for outgoing calls, but it wouldn't surprise me. Oh, and you might want to bring your own toiletries. They provide hospital ones (toothbrush, paste, shampoo/cond, soap, etc.), but I liked having my own stuff.
euphorhea ~ Don't feel bad about no SO's! This thread moves so quickly that if I miss one day I feel behind. You have a lot going on. Congrats on the new house!!
Godparents- We aren't religious at all. Like ellidew, I consider myself an agnostic. I am wondering if this is a regional thing as well. I don't know anyone that has Godparents or has chosen Godparents for their children even if they are religious.
hospital bag- I haven't even thought about this yet. It is probably one of those things I will do at the last minute. I am working under the assumption that labor is going to take a while and I will have some time to pack at home before we leave for the hospital. RO's - is it a bad idea to wait or should this be done ahead of time?
euphorhea- I think you have just about every life change possible on your list! I hope you are able to find some time to focus on you and decompress!
sick/well waiting room at Ped- The Ped. we chose has a sick and well waiting room.
Peaches- I am with you on baby being safe and sound in my belly. It kinda freaks me out to think that in a very short time I will be responsible for a little person! I really like that fact that I can keep him safe and sound while pregnant. When he is out in the world I have a lot less control over what he is exposed to.
I found out over the weekend that the dresser that I ordered for the nursery is not going to come in until the end of the month! It was supposed to be here the first week of September. I am a little frustrated that I have to wait until October for the nursery to be completed. At least the crib has come in and now we just have to get it delivered. USA Baby has also told me the dresser will be delivered and set up for free since it is going to arrive so late. I just hope it actually comes in when they say it will!
Thanks catgirl! I've heard that some people don't use their own nightgown or robe. I figure i'll need a nursing gown when we get home anyway so i'm just going to buy it and take it and see what happens. Toiletries are a great thing to bring! Thanks!
Food down the front of you?!? Seriously, i can't eat a meal without getting something on me. I am eating a bowl of soup and my hand knocked the spoon handle which sent the spoon and it's contents down the front of my shirt. Not 5 minutes later i dropped my bagel and it fell on the soup handle and the contents flew onto my desk! It happens so frequently that dh makes fun of me! I thought maybe it is just me but my co worker whos wife is due 10 days after me said she does the same thing. She changed 3 times yesterday. Once when she got home from work because she had something on her from lunch again when they got home from lamaze because she had ice cream on the front of her and again before bed when she dumped maalox down the front of her night shirt. He and my dh both make fun of us but they both know we are making a conscious effort to stay clean, we just can't!!!
I marked in red the items we brought, but didn't use. We definitely could have packed lighter and plan to this time.
Focal Point (pictures, flowers, etc...)no need w/c-section!
Chapstick/Vaseline
Lollipops or MouthwashI used the hospital provided mouthwash.
Something to use for counter pressure (ex. tennis ball)Again, didn't need w/c-section... maybe for throwing against the wall to pass the time?? ;)
Socks
Hair Brush
Hair Ties
Comfortable Gown/Nursing GownI used the hospital gown, but my own robe. I've heard that for a natural/vaginal birth you might want to use their gowns because of bleeding issues afterwards. Their mesh undies as well! They are actually very comfortable.
Slippers
Robe
Watch
Pad and Pencil Good idea to bring.. I didn't think of this the first time & had to scrounge for scrap paper & pens.
List of Phone Numbers
Snack for Coach
Camera (film and batteries or battery charger)
Music Another important one. We had a DVD/CD player in the birthing room and in my mother/baby room. We were playing Harry Connick jr. for DS before he was born.
Diversion: Movies, games, books, etc...
Going home outfit for baby
Baby book (they will stamp the feet in the book for you)We forgot ours. Our hospital also will stamp the feet in the book for you. Much easier than trying to do it yourself at home!
I think catgirl's recommendations are good ones to add too.
godparents - We are also both Catholic, so we'll be baptising DD. We don't have a ton of choices. My sister and one of DH's friends were Godparents to DS. We may ask my BIL and a girl friend of mine.. or my sister again!
On this topic, I am going to be Godmother to my friends new daughter... the baptism is 5 days before my scheduled c-section!! :eek:
Franni- Our church does not care if you have two female or males either. My friends twins had three Godmothers and one Godfather.
scarlett- I love your changing station for your DS. IKEA is such a fun place to shop! My mother and I were there yesterday - we have one very close to us. We only had an hour to shop but I could have spent a whole day. I did get a new light fixture for DD's room!
http://www.ikea.com/PIAimages/59280_PE165082_S3.jpg
When I showed it to DH last night, he pointed out that it will hang too low and DH will hit his head on it every time he enters the room! Oops. I may have to re-think this...
catgirl- Love your Gymboree purchases! I was there last week and bought a bunch of things for DD including this plaid dress that I just love!
http://s7ondemand1.scene7.com/is/image/Gymboree/140012867?$240x305$
I'm glad that your BP and fluid numbers have gone down.. and that Devin is no longer breech! That's all great news. Now don't try to have your baby before me!! That would be way too early.
euphorea- You have accomplished a ton recently! It's just a never-ending list though, isn't it?
**************************
I'm a little jealous of all of you and your baby showers! I would LOVE to re-register!!
I think we can finally start moving things into the nursery. I hung the curtain rods yesterday and touched up all of the painting on the moulding. My friend's mom is making a valance for us which is not done yet, but I have some sheers up already. And of course, I now have a lighting issue I have to figure out. We have a fixture up already, but I want to change it. I need my BIL to come and help me. But I think we can get the furniture and accessories into the room this weekend!!! :)
I have been incredibly tired these past few days. I haven't rested much, so that's probably an issue! I just feel like I could lay down and sleep at any moment. I took a 2 hour nap with DS this afternoon and am still tired.
Enough complaining! Now, I'm off to spend more money on some of those Trumpette socks that Sare posted! I saw them in a magazine a while back and they have a bunch of other cute styles in addition to the adorable ballet slipper socks! :) $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Money is flying out of my pocket daily now!$$$$$$$$$$$$
Since I took such a long time to type the previous message, I now have to come back and add more ;) !
Rubbersoul- It's probably a good thing to at least have some necessities packed ahead of time! You never know how your DS is going to choose to come into this world! Believe me. I was at my dr. appointment and had to go directly to the hospital from there. I had a bag "mostly" packed in my car (I was actually anticipating due to my previous trip to the hospital).
ellidew- Laughing at your food issues. It's definitely time for dark colored maternity shirts... they show less stuff!
Food down the front of you?!? Hahaha! Sort of!! Usually not down the front, but down my shirt for sure. :eek: :eek: Pre-pg I was a 34A/maybe B but I've definitely grown somewhat in the chestal region these last couple of weeks. Because I tend to wear tank tops/camis and v-neck t-shirts, this means that food crumbs and bits end up going right down my cleavage and can be found resting on my belly bulge just beneath the t-shirt. Talk about a PITA!! And if it happens to be a liquid that spills down my shirt while I'm eating, it's like it just goes right down the middle and makes a lovely wet spot on my shirt on the belly...I dribble a lot when I drink these days~milk, water, soda, juice. It all ends up on either my shirt or my pants. :rolleyes:
Sare79
Ahhh... yes- down the shirt. DH likes to watch and laugh at everything falling out when I take my bra off at night. On any given day there is a small handful of crumbs/bits of food.
Rubbersoul- Sorry to hear that DH didn’t get the job with GE, but it sounds like things are going to work best for your family. Sorry to hear that your dresser is arriving late too!
Kadee Glad to hear everything checked out okay, but bummer to hear no explanation or “fix”. Hope you are feeling better!
Scarlett- Happy to hear the placenta has moved! I hope mine does the same!
Acrane- Thanks for the ped interview list! Guess I better get started on this!
Euphorhea- Wow! Lots of changes! We just went through some of the same changes this summer- moving, new house, new job for DH, me SAH. I think the hardest thing has been mentally adjusting to a new way of managing our budget. So my unsolicited advice is to talk to DH about this now, come up with banking plan and budget and keep adjusting it every month until things fit.
catgirl-happy to hear your amino fluid levels are down and the baby is no longer breech. glad I could make you laugh with my post!
I still haven't found the lists! I feel so bad but I guess everyone is going to get very generic sounding thank you notes!
Godparents- we aren't choosing godparents but we need to get working on our wills and choose guardians.
Hospital bag- haven't even thought about this yet but I will pack ahead of time.
Food on my clothes- I drop a lot of stuff on my belly especially when I am cooking. I guess splatter or brush up against the counter and I of course have no idea that there is food all over my shirt.
It sounds like it's a bit of a ritualistic thing, for peace of mind, perhaps?
It is definitely a ritual, one that DH never experienced before DD was born. We attend a Lutheran church, but were raised with general Christian beliefs, of no particular church or group. DD's Godparents are actually not her selected guardians in case of our death, but rather friends given an official title and act more like aunt and uncle to her. They do not have children yet, so she is spoiled by them. :p
catgirl1007~ I agree, it can be very overwhelming when a lot of people are in attendance. I am just focusing on our current dilemna of choosing someone who will be a somewhat active part of DD#2's life for the long-term. DH is baffled by the "godparent" title and is just agreeing to it becuase we attend a Lutheran church and are 'required' to choose them for baptism.
Franni~ I need to ask my pastor about that! We are not Catholic, but so many traditions are similar in the Lutheran church, I wonder if this would be OK... Thanks for mentioning that!
RubberSoul~ good luck in the decision making process!
katnbug~ in your area, is it normal to ask the same people to be Godparents of both of your children? DD's godparents are the only male & female combo DH and I can agree on! Cool light fixture. Too bad it won't fit.
Can you tell this small little issue of choosing Godparents is taking over my mind???? That and bidding on eBay for the Maclaren Twin Techno stroller.:eek: :rolleyes: Glad I don't have real problems to worry about.:o We have chosen guardians for our children and our wills reflect our intentions.
ellidew~ great list! I loved having my robe (light weight as they keep the rooms warm becuase of the little ones) and also body spray. After my c-section I could not shower, so it was great to have the nurse follow my sponge bath with my favorite scent- lighter than my perfume. She was so happy to know I brought it as she mentioned many other moms *need* it after hours of labor and no shower.;)
Food down the front of you?!? Yeah, this is definitely far worse when I am pregnant, but I still do the same when not.... The 'benefits' of having D cups. :p
Thank you so much acrane for posting those pediatrician questions! That is a huge help to me. :)
Most people I know choose different people for each child. I don't think it would be bad to have the same one's though - especially if they enjoy having the title! My sister actually volunteered to be Godmother to our DD as well as DS... at least I know I'm not imposing on her! We also don't have too many choices. It's nice to have someone you know would be involved with your child's life for a while. My Godparents are old friends of my parents who I haven't seen or had contact with since I was a little kid! :confused:
My sister and her husband would also be legal guardians for our kids should anything happen to DH & I. We just had our will & guardianship papers drawn up last year. But that wouldn't mean they have to be Godparents... as you said it's just a title.
Katnbug- Thanks for the review on the questions! That was very helpful. We plan to play Miles Davis through the delivery. It’s so soothing for us! Plus, we’re naming our son Miles ;) Great light fixture! Too bad it might not work out. I really love that dress too. It’s so darn cute!
Rancid- I’ve had the crumbs down the shirt too. It’s so darn annoying especially when I eat toast ;) I have a permanent spaghetti sauce stain on my bra because it fell right down in there. Lol. I seriously need to buy some bigger nursing bras. I think I’ll put that on my weekend to do list. I’m scared to see what size I actually am since I’ve been squeezing into my pre-pg bras from the beginning… with the help of a strap extender, of course!
Sare- That’s funny! It’s a good thing we have our dh’s to laugh along with us because some days I get so frustrated I could just scream!
Roberta- That stinks that the lists got lost. We need to have a will/trust drawn up as well and choose guardians. Our only problem is WHO to choose! I trust one of my sisters the most but she lives overseas and how big of a change would it be to have both dh and me die and send out children to another country to live!?! Neither of our parents have the energy to keep up with children so they are out and I wouldn’t even let my other sister baby-sit for us! Lol. Dh has a cousin but it’s so hard to ask someone to take your children in if something happens to you. I hope our kids are never faced with something like this ever happening!
Neenbean- I was thinking a lightweight robe so thanks for reassuring me! I hope to find a waffle weave robe because I think those are so comfortable! We’ll see though. I need to get out and do this so I can pack our bags.
Hi ladies--
I had my 32w appt and u/s this morning! We're definitely still having a *BOY*! He's measuring just over 34 weeks and weighs 4 pounds 13 ounces. He's head down too which is great news! Other great news--my doc said she'd give me an epidural whenever they know that I'm committed (ie, they're not sending me home, not telling me to walk and see if I progress). It's nice to know that I don't have to get to some magic number before pain relief. The other good thing, all the peds use anthesia when doing a circ now.
I'll scan picts and post later today. :)
Peaches, yes I wanted to work till the eighth month because it's the only way to have 4 months at home after the delivery.
Tummy is still not ok and I'm at the third day of rice and potatoes! Also the baby starts screaming for something different! ;)
catgirl, that changing-bath set is perfect for us because we are tall and my hubby has always backache.
My best friend took this changing table from ikea:
http://www.ikea.com/PIAimages/08177_PE084938_S3.jpg
http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?topcategoryId=15567&catalogId=10103&storeId=12&productId=12318&langId=-1&categoryId=16255&chosenPartNumber=20045205
it's cheap and now that the baby is older she's using it for toys and books.
roberta, for the placenta I've read on an Italian forum that could be helpful lying in bed (not sitted, lying) every day 20 minutes for each part (left side and right side). I did it and it worked... I keep doing it till now, for example watching tv or just relaxing. You should try... at least you'll have only rest and relax, and that's not bad!
Godparents, we decided that the Godfather would be chosen by my hubby (his cousin) and the Godmother by me (I think at a friend or a cousin)
Have any of you packed your bag(s) for the hospital yet?
I've started but I miss few things. And it's already full! I'll need two of them!
I thought I'd add my 2 cents on the hospital bag list.
Focal Point (pictures, flowers, etc...) - doesn't help much if you are getting an epi.
Chapstick/Vaseline - never used
Lollipops or Mouthwash - never used
Something to use for counter pressure (ex. tennis ball) - never used
Socks - used the hospital provided ones since they have grips at the bottom
Hair Brush
Hair Ties - if possible, tie you hair up and gel it down before you are really contracting. Why? My hair tie kept falling out and when I was in throes of actual pushing and it was in my face, I asked DH to tie it up. That's when I found out that men generally do not know how to pull hair into a ponytail.
Comfortable Gown/Nursing Gown - My advice is to use the hospital one because of bleeding issues. If you want, you could bring a light robe for walking around so you don't feel so "exposed"
Slippers - socks worked for me. not sure if I would need slippers.
Robe
Watch - stop watch, right?
Pad and Pencil - this would be a nice to have so that you can jot things down to help you remember things, but I don't ever recall using it.
List of Phone Numbers - What DH did was have an email all typed up and ready to go with only the birthdate, weight, height not filled in. He sent it to his sister. After the birth, he made one phone call to his sister and everyone was informed at a click of a button. Now that I have a camera phone, I might even upload the picture and have it sent out.
Snack for Coach - I'd like to have some snacks for myself. If you decide to check into the hospital and it happens to be a long labor, most hospitals will not allow you to eat before the birth. After the birth and the day after, you could be starving in the middle of the night with no place to get food.
Camera (film and batteries or battery charger) - ABSOLUTE ESSENTIAL. Make sure your batteries are charged at all times. Confirm with your hospital though on what their policy is about cameras and videos. Some of them are very strict about what could be used, where and when.
Music
Diversion: Movies, games, books, etc... - I brought a magazine.
Going home outfit for baby - YES!
Baby book (they will stamp the feet in the book for you)
Just to give you an idea of what happened to me:
I was in active labor by the time I checked into the hospital (~7 cm dilated). I checked in at 7:30 PM and gave birth at 12:04 am. There really wasn't a lot of time for me to dilly dally or get bored. So maybe that's why some of the things that I had in my huge bag was never used.
I thought of a few more things to pack in your hospital bag.
A nursing bra and nursing pads - Or a non nursing bra for those not BFing. Good if you don't enjoy walking around without a bra. Or if you end up having to stay in the hospital longer than expected. I was in for 5 days due to BP issues & my milk definitely came in during that time.
Also, I think someone may have mentioned maxi pads. Those are a must. The bigger the better!!
Congrats on passing the 3 hr Sare!
Great pictures Sinclair!
Franni- I'm laughing picturing my DH trying to put a ponytail in my hair... he would totally over-think it and probably get frustrated! :D He's a bit of a perfectionist.
After my total lack of energy yesterday I am experiencing a burst today! Funny how that works. I've done 4 loads of laundry. Washed and packed up all of my maternity clothes that no longer fit. Cleaned DS's closet. And filed a bunch of papers that were piled up. Now, I'm resting. :)
Everyone have a great day!
Sinclair ~ Those are awesome u/s pics!
Kat ~ Hmmm... might you be nesting...? ;) Can you come over tomorrow to do our laundry?
Sare ~ Congrats on passing the 3 hour GTT!
ellidew ~ I wore the mesh undies the entire time in the hospital (2 days; probably went through about 4-5 pair) and wore regular undies home. The mesh undies work well and are disposable so it doesn't matter if a pad leaks.
Thanks everyone! I still have kidney stones left in there from a few weeks ago and the OB has tentatively scheduled an appointment for me to get them blasted in mid-December after I have had Carys. He's hoping I can pee them out no problem, but if they stay in there, they will need to be broken down.
I have noticed that my nipples are much more noticeable through my shirts- anyone else? I can be warm and they are still showing. It's a lose-lose situation- the thicker bras I have with the padding are really uncomfortable, and the thinner ones I like make them more noticeable.
Just dropping off the results of my GTT: Passed! They did say I was a little anemic, though, so I've been downing the spinach. Bleccch!!
Can't remember if I listed this before, but My next appointment is 9/21.
And it looks like I'll be getting a shower after all! A friend has offered to host one at an Indian restaurant in NYC. I gave her a list but I'm not sure if people will actually come. Most of my friends aren't local. We'll see...
mesh hospital undies vs. your own~ I recommend bringing some granny panties to wear home with the largest maxi pad you can buy! :eek: Seriously, the bleeding sux and you are not allowed to wear a tampon during this time. I ended up having a c/s, so my bikini underpants annoyed the heck out of my incision for months after the surgery. I wore the huge panties that I hate for that time until I healed. I know friends with vaginal births (who normally wear thong or bikinis) preferred granny panties, too because your belly is still quite large. They felt more supported using these super ugly underwear. HTH. :o
breast pads- mights as well buy some now! If you BF, or NOT, you will need them for a while. If BFing, you may need them for a couple months. If you don't BF, you will still have your milk come in and it will probably leak, too. The pads are also great for covering excited nipples. ;)
Hi ladies! I love reading the lists of what to pack and what was helpful for people. I'm not due until the end of Nov, but I definitely want my bag packed by the end of Oct for peace of mind. I'll have to start collecting things soon.
Smuggling peas - I LMAO when I first heard this euphemism for nipples showing through your shirt. Unfortunately I've had this problem for a while and feel like sometimes they're still showing, even with lightly padded bras :( I'll have to pick up some of the breast pads you're all talking about!
bijouparvin - Congrats on passing your GTT! That's great you're having a shower too!
Sare79 - I hope you pass the stones and don't have to go through the procedure after birth!
Sinclair319 - Great u/s pics! I'm so jealous you got another one. I asked my doctor this week, and I won't be having any more unless she's concerned about the baby's size or some other potential problem. I just wish I could get another sneak peek at my baby!
I have eaten six, SIX Reese's Peanut Butter Cups today. The full-size ones. :o
************************************************** ********
mayham - You're smart to prepare that early. I haven't started thinking about the bag yet, but I'm a planner so chances are I'll be packed up at least by Halloween, if not sooner.
neenbean - Do you think that "maternity" granny panties are best? I've been wearing thongs so long (even my maternity undies are thongs) that I wouldn't even know what size to buy. I think Motherhood makes maternity briefs. Does that count as "granny" enough to be comfortable, you think?
rancid - Thanks! Sorry to hear your nips are acting up. I've dodged that bullet so far but I'm sure it's only a matter of time. :rolleyes:
roberta - How do you like the Gerber pads? I'm trying to figure out which kind to stock up on and my BFF can't remember what brand she uses that doesn't make the little circle outline through the bra.
Sare - So great to hear that you passed the three-hour GTT! One less thing to worry about. Do those stones have to pass or could they go away on their own?
What are "mesh undies"?
And does anyone else have a lot of pain in their pubic bone, especially in the morning/middle of the night? This started for me at about 22 weeks and is getting worse. When I'm up and about it's okay, even walking or on stairs. It's just when I have to switch sides in bed or get up in the morning. Or if I lay on the floor for any amount of time. It's really my only PG complaint at this point but I haven't heard anyone else mention it. Anyone?
Sare - So great to hear that you passed the three-hour GTT! One less thing to worry about. Do those stones have to pass or could they go away on their own?
Thanks! The stones need to come out somehow whether they break down into smaller bits that I don't notice or I pass them whole or if they stay in there until I have the baby.
I totally have the pain in my pubic bone during the night. It's really sore especially when I get up to pee. I'm with you on that one!
neenbean - Do you think that "maternity" granny panties are best? I've been wearing thongs so long (even my maternity undies are thongs) that I wouldn't even know what size to buy. I think Motherhood makes maternity briefs. Does that count as "granny" enough to be comfortable, you think?
The Motherhood briefs are HUGE. They go up past your belly button- being a devout thong wearer, you may be horrified by them. I would just head to Victoria Secret or similar store and buy 2 or 3 pairs of briefs or high-cut undies in one size larger than your thongs. You will be glad to have some space, especially while your belly is shrinking.
What are "mesh undies"?
They are exactly that! Think something along the lines of those nylon socks at the shoe store, but in the form of underwear. They fit ALL sizes! The stretch is forgiving, but also holds the GINORMOUS pads given to you at the hospital. Blood rinses soooo easily from them, you will be glad you are not ruining anything you already own.
Smuggling peas - I LMAO when I first heard this euphemism for nipples showing through your shirt.
So funny! I don't think I had ever heard that before. :D
bijou I like the Gerber pads. They weren't very expensive, like maybe $6 or $7 for 100 pads. Sometimes I rewear them, sometimes I throw them away. They work well for me and the circle doesn't show. You do have to make sure there is not a wrinkle in the pad when you tuck them into your bra. For reference, I am up to a D cup :eek: and I am wearing the breast pads with a lightly lined bra. (They just don't make D cup bras without a little lining.) I wear them inside my shelf camis and sports bras too.
I am 33 weeks today-wow! I think time is starting to fly. Still no nursery or crib but we've started on the process so I'm okay with that.
Had my OB appt on Tuesday, it was uneventful. Next appt is September 28th with an ultrasound to check on my "bonus" placenta, LOL.
Now I am going every 2 weeks!
What are mesh undies?
Only the best invention ever for the postpartum momma! Steal as many pairs as you can from the hospital. I'm not kidding. When you realize all the stuff you have to cram in between your legs for the days/weeks following delivery you're going to covet those bad boys more than the latest sexy panties from Victoria's Secret. In fact, take as much as you can without being noticeable. Trust me, your insurance co. will be billed for every package of diapers, Percocet, and onesie that they put in your baby's bassinet so you might as well take advantage. I felt really bad about doing it and even though DH urged me to take everything I didn't. Then I saw the bill from the insurance co. and was mad that I didn't take what was basically already paid for!
Hi everyone!
Apologies, but I'm afraid I have no time for SO's.....squeezing this update in quickly over lunch!
Our second shower this past weekend was great! Our house is quickly turning into babyland. We put together the pack n play, swing, bouncy seat and stroller. It's so bizarre to see that stuff sitting around the house. It's making me SO excited.
Doc appt on Monday was pretty routine. BP is still good and weight gain is still on track. My next appt is 9/25. After that appt, I start going weekly. :eek: Holy cow!
And this morning I'm happy to say that the nursery furniture was delivered and assembled. I'm so happy with it! So I'll spend this entire weekend coming up getting things in their rightful places in the baby's room. We've got all the bedding/curtains/etc. SO EXCITING!!!
Hope everyone is doing well!
Sare, that's great! I also passed the 3 hours GTT: that means that the 1 hour one is really wrong.
sare congrats on passing the GTT.
peepers Yeah...it's really annoying. Mine have grown too. Might be TMI but mine used to be petite, sort of nickle sized things. Now they are larger than a silver dollar. And of course, when I shower with DD, she is fascinated by them and yanks at them like cow udders. Cute...:(
mesh undies I have purloined quite a stash of these. They are the greatest things since the unlimited stretch does not "disturb" all the painful stuff going on down there during the first few days post partum.
pubic bone pain Only occasionally.
Just had my dr appt today. It went ok. Gained only 4 lbs this time (my last visit was 6 weeks ago - long story) baby is no longer breech which is good news. Bad news is I cannot get comfortable and there is nothing I can do about it. There is no one comfortable default position that I can do to make my body feel better. It's especially bad when I sit in the couch or lie in bed.
I'll have to check those out too. Thanks for the recommendation! :)
Yikes, with regards to that last sentence. :eek: Mine have grown also, they were more dime-sized before and now they're looking more like quarters (and I'm sure they'll get even bigget before it's all over).
Mesh undies They sound comfy!! Perhaps not the most fashionable things, but they sound downright comfortable to me, LOL!
Pubic bone pain Only very occasionally. Not every night, but definitely a few times a week.
I'm having my shower this weekend! I can't wait! My BFF and mom have been planning it for months...my BFF has been telling me a little bit about the decorations (ocean theme) and my mom has been running food selections by me every other day. I can't wait to see a lot of people that I haven't seen in years (most of them, since our wedding almost 3 years ago!!), especially one of my childhood best friends who is 4 weeks ahead of me in her pg (also pg with a boy!). :D
So are mine! I wonder if they'll ever go back to normal... ?? DD self weaned at 22 months, so I haven't had "normal" boobs since before I got PG with her... it'll be 3 years in January! My boobs did shrink slightly when she weaned, but my n's stayed the same size. :(
Okay, I am way behind. I was catching up and lost track so now I am just going to backtrack a few pages to catch up. I am sorry about news that I have missed :(
Some news on my end: Good friends are planning a destination wedding for May 2007 in the Bahamas! Connor will be 6 months old and this will probably most likely be our first trip after he arrives. It will be interesting to see how we work it out.
My next dr appointment is tomorrow (9/15) and our child birth classes are this weekend.
belly button popping out
No, but it is getting shallower. I had a pretty deep belly button :D
Is anyone using a doula or thinking about hiring one?
No, I have been rather “boring” in regards to my birth plan. I have a dr. I will give birth in a hospital, I will have an epidural, if needed. End of story. No creativity there at all.
Anyone chosen GODPARENTS yet???
We are not going to, as far as I know. We are not going to baptize our child.
Have any of you packed your bag(s) for the hospital yet?
No, what on earth does a person pack? I am clueless. I am guessing they will tell us at our childbirth/hospital visit. Thanks for that list, ellidew.
Question #1: does anyone scrapbook?
I never have and just started a scrapbook for Connor. I always avoided it because I did not need another hobby but it was really fun to do. We could show off our creations.
Question #2: Is anyone getting concerned or afraid of childbirth?
I am starting to get a bit nervous. I am starting to realize it is inevitable. That scares me a bit.
ellidew – that tummy time mat is so cute! Since I am having a boy, I feel a need to post a less feminine equivalent :D
http://trus.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/pTRU1-2788830reg.jpg
Sinclair – you really do look fantastic. That is so odd because Connor loves to shove some part of his body in my right rib cage and just stay there. For a while, it is a constant pressure. I am so jealous of your u/s pictures. I want another u/s! It must be cool to have one so far along.
kadee – that picture is so cute. It also really hit home that I (and the rest of us here) will have a tiny baby to bring home not too long from now. Kinda scary!
lilo – congrats on passing your glucose test :D
sare – those socks are precious!
catgirl – if I was not at work right now, I would squeal out loud at how damn cute that ensemble is. Oh. My. Goodness.
katnbug – I have to agree with you. I feel great most of the time but there are other times when I am really tired. I have started taking naps on Saturdays and Sundays and I just want to lie down after work.
franni – sorry to laugh at your expense but that is pretty funny about your daughter yanking on your “peepers”
That's adorable! I saw it at Target over the weekend when I was looking at the boy Boppy tummy time play pads. It looks like a little surfboard! (DH is a surfer).
Question #1: does anyone scrapbook?No...I don't have the patience or organization required to scrapbook. Although I wish I did!!
Question #2: Is anyone getting concerned or afraid of childbirth? Not really. I'm more concerned with getting thru the last ~3 months because my skin issues have continued to wreak havoc on me emotionally & physically. I told DH (and anyone else who would listen) that I could never go thru this constantly-irritated-skin-thing while pg again. I'm think that L&D would be a lot easier than this portion of my pg has been thus far because it couldn't possibly last longer than a few days MAX and then it's over, right? This skin thing has been bothering me big time at a top-notch level for 3 months now and doesn't seem to be tapering off or responding to any sort of treatment. I think about it constantly...
rancid - my husband is a surfer too. I put that tummy time thing on the baby registry. I have a feeling I am going to have a little man who is a spitting image of my husband. I would just adore a tiny version of DH. I would absolutely love him to pieces! Your skin ailment but be driving you insane, literally. That sucks.
I've seen that tummy time mat too (at Target). I didn't think it made sense for our midwestern barnyard themed baby room! lol.
Question #2: Is anyone getting concerned or afraid of childbirth? Nope! and some might think i'm crazy but i'm actually sort of looking forward to it! I can't wait to experience the entire thing! I've never really been afraid of it though. I've always considered it quite amazing! Now, when i'm actually IN labor i might be singing a different tune! lol.
The thing that creeps me out the most is how once were in labor (if not induced or having a scheduled c) we go to the hospital, go to the nurses desk on the maternity floor and check in (like we're at a hotel). Then we get a room, i change into a hospital gown we go over my birthing plan or how i expect things to go and they go over past medical history, etc... I also have a chance to ask questions. They hook me up to an iv and monitors if necessary and we have a baby. It seems so mundane it creeps me out! lol.
Man, I sure hope so!! :) I'm getting really tired of the prickly "gotta itch" feeling all over, all day long. I can only hold off itching for so long before I give in...making my skin look lovely all red & irritated. :(
Rancid- I'm sorry to hear your skin isssues are continuing. It is PUPPS rash?
Your shower sounds like it'll be fun, make sure you post some pictures next week.
Scrapbook- I haven't started one but I'd like to pick on eup. I'd like a place to keep all this ultrasound photos, hospital tags, footprints, etc.
Hospital Bag- I've put aside a few toiletries but I doubt I'll pack a bag for a couple more weeks.
Is anyone getting concerned or afraid of childbirth? Ellidew, your first paragraph took the words right out of my mouth. I'm not one bit nervous, excited actually.
I AM nervous about afterwards though. All the bleeding, constipation, sore boobs, etc.......
question #1- scrapbooking- I had a bug up my butt to start scrapbooking after DS was born. I bought a ton of supplies. Even ordered things off of QVC!! :eek: I never found the time to start doing it though. I have a ton of organized pictures and all of my supplies in a carrying tote, so I figure I will tackle it sometime in the next 10 years! ;) I figure scrapbooking is something you can start at any time as long as you are organized and have the time! Someday....
question #2- childbirth concern- I was like ellidew the first time around. I was extremely excited and didn't find myself nervous at all. I was looking forward to the experience. Then I had the emergency c-section (which for some reason didn't freak me out at all). Now I'm having another c-section, so I'm pretty comfortable with what I will be going thru. As long as it's not "emergency" again. :)
*************************
Still riding my wave of energy... nesting?, probably so catgirl!
Today (after Gymbo Art class) we went to the park, then to lunch, and then while DS napped I cleaned out the closet in the nursery and got it ready for the crazy amount of clothing I've purchased for DD already!
Now.. we're off to Hobby Lobby.
elliedw Hate to break this to you, but everything was very mundane with my first delivery. I had a vaginal birth.
It went something like this:
Water broke in the morning,
contractions too far apart to go to the hospital,
had lunch,
contractions still far apart,
went to Home Depot,
contractions far apart,
went to work to pick up some packages delivered there,
contractions getting closer together,
went to dr's office,
7 cm dilated,
went up to L/D,
waited for about 45 minutes for a room to open up,
walked around the floor to keep myself moving,
DH showed up around 8:00
got a room at 9:00,
epi at 9:30,
waited till 12:04 to give birth to get one extra day at the hospital - NOTE: most hospitals have a policy that if you give birth before midnight, that counts as your first day at the hospital. For vaginal births, most insurance only covers 2 days.
gave birth at 12:04.
It was so uniquely absent of drama or fanfare. Before 8cm, I could have read a magazine through the whole thing. Actually thinking back at the whole thing, I would want the same thing this time around. Maybe I would like to get into my room a little faster though.
Don't get me wrong... i'm all for VERY mundane when it comes to l&d. There are two things i'd prefer always be uneventful... Flying and pregnancy/l&d :D We're all so programmed by Hollywood to expect so much more, ya know? I think it's the checking in like we're at a hotel then just changing from my street clothes to a hospital gown is where i'm hung up.... it just seems so weird! lol.
ellidew - man, you have a great attitude about childbirth. I could learn something from you :)
nic - that is why I started one too. I have thought scrapbooks were cute for a while but never wanted to take on the project. Now seems like the best time, I suppose. It helps that I have tons of paper and stamps and stuff so I do not have to buy anything but the book itself. I envy that you are not nervous about childbirth.
Scrapbooking ~ I have thought about doing this but just haven't been motivated enough to actually go buy the stuff to get it done.
Childbirth ~ I'm not nervous about the general idea of what will happen since I've already done it twice. I am nervous (scared out of my mind) about the actual delivery though since I am at a higher risk for things not going smoothly.
Anyone else have a decrease in movements?? Lately it seems that the baby just doesn't move as much as he used to. I probably don't even count 10 times in an entire day that he moves. I have an appt on Monday so I will bring it up then. It might be that he is already running out of room but holy cow if that's the case and I still have 7 weeks to go, he really won't have room in a few more weeks.
Got up this morning, was running late so I thought I'll just grab a bagel at work. I remembered to take my prenatal though. Driving to work I started getting hot and clamy--luckily made it to my office before I puked. Stomach is still jittery, but feeling a little better after I ate something. Blech, I'll never do that (take the vitamin without food) again!
