I have 3 children and I married my husband who has 2 and we would like to have one together, however, I had my tubes tied after my third. Has anybody had a reversal done or maybe considering doing it?
I am trying to find prices on it, because I know it can be a little costly, but it's just an outpatient surgery.
My husband and I considered me having a reversal when we got married (I have 3 kids, he has none) but then changed our mind. Let me do some digging for some infor I have some where about it and I'll post back!
ivillage message board (http://messageboards.ivillage.com/iv-pptubalrev?redirCnt=1)
Dr. Berger in NC (http://www.tubal-reversal.net/)
Dr. Levin in KY (http://www.babies-by-levin.com)
Dr. Perez in Mexico (http://www.riobravoreversal.com/)
These are good place to start. Dr. Perez in Mexico is supposed to be very good. So is Dr. Berger, but very expensive. I would talk to your GYN about your reversal. You may be surprised to find that there is some one in your area who does a reversal.
When looking you want to be sure you find some one who does the surgery using microscopic technology. This is where they go is and sew your tubes back together layer by layer and not just the outer layer.
If you do an internet search, you will find lots of stuff the is very religion laden. Just a letting you know because some of it can be quite heavy (about because you had your tubes tied you are going to hell unless you correct the problem.)
You will need a copy of your op report from the hospital/doctor who did your surgery. Do you know what kind of tubal you had? Some are more easily reversed than others.
If you have any other questions please feel free to ask. Even if I didn't have the surgery, I have done extensive research and can direct you to people who have had it done!!
Good luck to you!!

I don't know what kind of surgery I had or how to even obtain a copy of the report. I don't even know the name of the doctor who did it. I had it done at county almost 6 years ago. Thank you very much for all of the information. If I am going to hell for getting my tubes tied then I guess all the bad stuff I avoid doing is pointless to avoid

Thank you very much for the information too. I am really serious about looking into it.
I am wishing I could be like my aunt. She had her tubes tied and then along came my cousin Josh. I don't want to have to go through surgery just to get pregnant.
If you only want one more chlid, IVF is also an option to look into. And can be covered by some insurance companies.
Some insurances will cover having a reversal done. Blue Cross/Bule Sheild will most of the time. If you have the Code (what a hospital/doctor uses to charge you for a certain procedure) you can call your insurance company and ask if they cover that particular code. (for the life of me, I don't remember what it is, but can find out!)
If you know the hospital where you had your surgery, you can call their release of information department and request a copy of your records from the surgery. Under HIPPA regulations, you'll have to sign a release to get them, but it's no big deal. They can also charge you for making the copies of your records. It's usually not too expensive (I think our ROI office charges $25 for the first 10 pages).
Let me know if I can be of any more help!
Under HIPPA regulations
My two cents: it's HIPAA: Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
It's easy to get your own records. You can have them faxed directly to your current physician or hospital, or pick them up yourself. Either does require a faxed release, no biggie.
Good luck. Success rates on reversal vary not just according to the type of ligation originally performed, but also on the woman's age, overall health, and amount of time which has passed since the ligation was done.
As an aside, 6% of women who have their tubes tied seek reversal within 5 years of the surgery. So you are in good company. I hope you get the outcome you desire.
HIPAA
I know that, my fingers just typed faster than my brain was thinking.

It's easy to obtain your medical records. At the hospital there will be a department in which you go to and ask to have a copy of your records. You can ask when you go into the hospital where you need to go to get a copy of your records at the information desk (it's usually part of the medical records department which is now usually called health information department). You can specifiy what time frame of the records you want. You will have to sign a release (no biggie) saying that you requested the copy (or copies). I went to the hospital where I delivered my DD and asked to have a copy of my records from when she was born. I wanted them so I could take them to my new OB/GYN's office. All I had to do was sign a release and the woman copied the file.
Good luck.

Well, I guess I will start by going to get those records so that I can have them.
We are waiting until we are settled in our new house to officially do anything, but we have pretty much made up our minds that we would like to try it.
