I have a stupid question here :D

Is there any etiquette that says thank you notes have to be written on thank you cards, or can they just be on some nice stationery? I have huge handwriting and want to write kind of a long note to the 2 people who hosted the shower and also gave gifts. I don't think it'll ever fit onto a regular thank you card. Which would you prefer? TY card? Statonery? How about a TY card with the note written on stationery and tucked inside? Tacky? Help! :)

I think regular stationery is fine if that's what you choose. It's the note that's important, not what you write it on.

ITA. Any kind of stationery or card would be just fine.

I think if you were to go back about 40/50 years, you would find stationary was the traditional way to write any thank you notes. I know both my grandmothers had personalized wedding stationary (and still use personal stationary for thank you notes). So just think of yourself as a classic and use the stationary :)

Yep.

And if you want to get really strict and base it on pure etiquette, a thank you note should never say Thank You on it - that sentiment is up to the writer to express and should not be preprinted.

It wouldn't matter to me if the note were in a card or on stationery. Laura's right, the sentiment is more important than the instrument.

What Emilie said. Preprinted "thank You" notes are a modern convenience, but "technically" not the most correct. Technically, plain, monogrammed or personalized, or any pretty stationery should be used. So you defintely can use any stationery to write your thanks you's. The more you wish to write - teh better!

I never buy preprinted thank you cards - and not just to be an ettiquette stickler. I just find it economical -and easier - to have stack of non-specific blank notecards that I use for many reasons.

FYI, I bought monogrammed notes for my wedding thank yous. They were from Embossed Graphics, and I think I paid around $50 for 100 cards and envelopes. When I finish my TYs I will have extra cards for notes and such. I think it is a classic way to go, and more versatile than TY cards. However, I don't think it is appropriate to use cards with your post-wedding monogram before you are married. Just an aside :-)
