Can someone tell me if taking clomid ups your risk of clotting? I've already had PE's, but have tested negative for all clotting disorders---just one of the lucky one's that clot easily during pregnancy.

Anyway, we are moving on with the initial fertility workup on Monday and my RE is suggesting clomid as well. I asked for an HSG first to clear that avenue but if my tubes are ok then we'd probably try clomid. I thought that would put me at a great risk for clotting since I won't start lovenox till 6-8 weeks pg. He doesn't seem too concerned.

I want another baby but really don't want to die trying! TIA!!

Not that I've heard of. I've got a clotting disorder and my RE put me on Clomid (took it for three rounds, pregnant two of those). Of course, I started my hep shots the day I tested BFP, so maybe that's why he had no problem with it?

Thanks Phen. I think before we start clomid I'll check with my MFM and see if she changes the start date for the lovenox.

I took Clomid and didn't read or hear anything about clotting issues, but definitely check with your doctor, just in case!

Well, I had my HSG yesterday & spoke with the RE briefly and he said he's still leary of having me take it. I've done a search on google & can't find anything either. We are doing more testing this month (cd12 u/s and DH S/A) then next month we have one shot if all stays on track. If it doesn't happen by then I'll schedule a consult on what to do. There is some discussion on 'natural monitoring' with insem. We aren't ready to take that step though.

My only thought is this. Clomid tricks the body into thinking estrogen is low so it ups your estrogen to make follicles. Estrogen is what causes the clotting so maybe that's it?? Or am I totally off here? I know I can never take BCP's because of this. Maybe it's the same theory?

do you mean having blood clots in your flow?

I don't know--I don't think my clotting disorder is definitively caused by estrogen.

But with you on Lovenox, that should help stave off clots, right? what about you taking baby aspirin before starting the Lovenox? I take baby aspirin every day now for my clotting disorder; that's supposed to be fine for that (but I never had a PE).

Asha No, but I do have those too. :o When I was pg w/ DS #1 I devolped clots in my pelvis that broke off and traveled to my lungs. Because I've already had pulmonary emboli (PE's) w/ 1 pg, I'm at a higher risk to develop them again w/ another pg. In addition, I cannot take BCP's because the extra hormones that trick my body into thinking I'm pg may also cause my blood to clot, hence possible PE's.

Phen If all else fails, I think I'll suggest starting the lovenox pre-conception so that the risk is lowered while taking the clomid. I'm starting to think this is God's way of telling me I shouldn't have more babies because I'll definitely have more PE's and won't be so lucky the next time. :(

ETA: Baby Asprin. I like that idea!
