Ground Turkey question??

How long is ground turkey supposed to last in the freezer? I find that ground beef can last for months but its not the same for ground turkey. The package I took out and thawed last week ended up smelling funny and I had it stored for about 2 months. I freeze both in the package it came in. Anyone know? Should I repackage it differently before I freeze it? I know there's nothing wrong with the freezer since everything else seems fine and I keep it at 0F.

I'd say 3-4 months. It may have a good by date on it.

ETA: I found this online....
If freezing meat and poultry in its original package longer than 2 months, overwrap these packages with airtight heavy-duty foil, plastic wrap, or freezer paper, or place the package inside a plastic bag.
