View Full Version : Things They Need to Invent

I've been keeping a running list in my head of things that "They" really need to invent....maybe some of these already exist, but I never found them. Anyway, here's my list so far (I know there are more but I can't remember right now). Maybe someone here will be inspired to invent! :)

(1) a bed for newborns that is shaped like mom's arms, complete with breasts and a beating heart and breaths.

(2) a swing that turns off SILENTLY (so that you don't wake the baby when you turn the swing off), or one with a timer.

(3) a bouncy chair that allows baby to sit completely upright (especially good for reflux babies).

(4) soft, chewable pacifier clips

(5) bibs for infants that have shoulders.....my kids apparently think that we don't want them to dirty the nice clean cloth under their chins, and often turn their heads to spit up.

FYI, I'm limiting my list to things that are *possible* (in other words, I could say "a patience machine," or "a magic wand," but let's stick to the real stuff). :)

What about these bibs (http://www.sonsanddaughtersinc.com/sons/product.asp?s%5Fid=0&dept%5Fid=3098&pf%5Fid=PAAAAAKCODNEOIBP&)?

I've thought of the arm/mom shaped bed before too! :)

I always thought they should invent an infant carseat (like the SnugRide) that has an option to rock on it's own. You know how you can rock the infant seat yourself? Well imagine a little stick or something that pops in and out of the bottom on one side to make it rock on it's own. A vibrate feature would be nice too. That would have come in SO handy at restaurants or friends houses.

I forgot to add:

-a bouncy chair that "jiggles" (rather than vibrates or bounces).

-a swing that will let you put a baby on his/her side.

Thanks, amy - I'd never seen them in infant sizes before (for toddlers, yes, but never infants until those second ones you posted). Do you know if the terrycloth ones are infant sized?

What a great idea for a thread! Funny DH and I had a conversation about this a few days ago. Here's some of my ideas.

-Crib with an elevator-like mechanism so that the mattress comes all the way up to the top. I cannot count the number of times I got DD to fall asleep in my arms only to have her wake up screaming when I bend over to put her down. This way I could put her down without bending over and lower the whole mattress. Oh and of course, it has to be absolutely silent so as to not wake the baby. :D This crib will also make it easy to lower the the mattress down later on when they get older.

-A carseat with a built-in heater/AC. It'd be nice to have a warm seat for the baby on a cold day and keep it cool on a hot one esp when the car is parked out in the sun.

I'm sure there are more that crossed my mind but that's all I could think of now.

kat - not sure if those are for infants and/or toddlers - couldn't find any info on the site. you could probably email that site and ask...

I wish there was a straw cup lid that could screw on to a regular water bottle. There are so many times when we are out that I want to grab a bottled water and share it with my kiddo. He only wants Mama's water not "his" cup. Plus if they had that lid I could pack even lighter!

Some sort of extra trays or liners for the highchair. Cleaning the same tray at least three times a day makes me want to scream. I wish I had a bunch of them so I could just put them in the dish washer.

(5) bibs for infants that have shoulders.Hee hee, I read this as the infants have shoulders, not the bibs, and was wondering what kind of kids you were hanging out with that didn't have shoulders (for the record, we could use those bibs too as DD does the same thing)

summerbaby i love your elevating mattress idea! i would buy one! this has happened to me so many times as well.

here are a few improvements to the Snugride...

-the Snugride needs velcro to hold the straps to the side so they don't fall in while trying to put in ds.

-the button to loosen the straps needs to be operational with one hand! it's almost impossible to hold ds and try to loosen those straps!

-it also needs a breathable cooler fabric. ds would probably enjoy it so much more if he didn't get so hot!

a pacifier nipple that is filled with that liquid in teething toys so you can cool it in the fridge. it's much easier to keep in his mouth and chew on than some of those bulky teething toys that he can't yet maneuver so well.

You know how in airports you wave your hand over the sensor and a new, clean plastic toilet seat cover electronically replaces the peed-on one someone just used?

Well, I want bigger, high-sided changing tables in all bathrooms with a version of that....and that have a handy shelf I can put my diaper bag on so changes in public aren't a germy wrestling match.

they are extra trays that snap in and out. The HealthyCare high chair and booster have them. Both my high chair and booster only came with one liner tray but you can use the liner tray for one meal and the main tray for another and the liner tray does fit in the DW.

Here is a picture of the booster with the pieces shown:

My graco harmony high chair has a tray similar to what hmbay posted

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000B2Y2H4.16._SCLZZZZZZZ_SS384_.jpg

The top smaller tray comes off (and is dishwasher safe), then you can use the regular tray which also comes off and into the dishwasher. Under that is a bar that the tray clips onto and has holes to hold a skinny sippy, cherios, puffs, or other small finger food.

And I swear I've seen disposable liners that go over the highchair at Target, but I can't seem to find them online.

a hearing device for my hubby that amplifies DD crying at night. apparently I'm the only one that can hear my dd at night, but he sure can hear everything else. oh...it would be great if it could also force him to get out of bed and pick up the baby.

I have the FP highchair and do use the liner for meal, tray for snack, etc. Cleaning the highchair is just my most hated task. I wish I had 12 liners so I never had to wash them by hand. I know, I'm weird. :p

You can actually buy extra snap in trays for the healthy care high chairs from BRU and the ones for the booster directly from Fisher-Price.

When holding DS in my arms to bottle feed him, my forearm get really sore (he has a big head!!). I have often thought it would be nice if someone invented a pad that you slip over your arm that they can rest their head on. it would support their head and keep your arm from aching!

Something that keeps pacifiers in when DD still wants is, but lets her spit it out when she's done with it...I know that doesn't make sense, but right now I have to hover over her for 10-20 minutes to re-insert until she's deeper asleep and spits it out on her own....

.....and another "OMG" "invention" I found online.....

It about time for a great invention that can serve all travelers. The onboard SkiesMall catalog is now selling the Infant Cone o' Silence that fliers both young and old will find a welcome piece of additional in-flight equipment.

The new device uses a special sound stopping polymer called CryogelŽ that captures the cries of babies as soon as they leave the infant's mouth. The sound absorbing cones are simply placed over the heads of babies during flight and can reduce the sound of baby cries by as much as 98 percent, according to certified tests.

The cone has a large opening at the bottom to allow in ample air so that the baby can breathe and a patented "Eating Hole" provides parents with the opportunity to feed the baby while it is wearing the device.

The technology behind the Infant Cone o' Silence was developed by the military's skunk works at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) where they are rumored to have been used in military prisons to keep inmates quiet during guard's bedtime hours. Very cool.

LOL....like any kid would actually keep that on!? It's like a reversed dog cone! HAHAHAA.

Thought of another one. Custom-made pacifiers that look and feel just like mom's boob. Oh and it should mount to the side of the crib so baby can suck whenever she needs it. I thought of this as I was a human pacifer for the longest time.

OMG booey, those are hysterical. seriously, do you think a flight attendant would allow you to place that over your child? not to mention everyone on the plane would think you were cuck-oo. i love the duster outfit, must get DD that one!

how about a mechanical arm that attaches to the crib and rubs the baby's back?? part of the reason i let DD sleep in the car seat for so long is that i got too tired standing over her crib doing this. i definitely could have used a car seat rocker too!

like one of those things that attached to your braces and wrapped around your head?! sometimes i was tempted to put a rubber band around her head to keep it in (not really;) )

Amy - about the wierd hand thingys - they are called Zakeez. We use them here in our NICU. I guess they were invented by the mother of a preemie, which we are all kicking ourselves over, because we have always used things like beanie babies, etc., to make the babies feel swaddled and touched. They do work wonders, but ya think they could be more colorful or something, ya know?

Now if we could just make one that would pat the little butts to sleep:)

A bouncy seat that bounces on its own. DH and I can't believe that someone hasn't invented this yet If I had a nickel for every time I've bounced that darn thing with my foot while eating dinner, on the computer, cooking - the list goes on and on.

GPS tracking devices that come in earrings, watches, tennis shoes....although in some ways i think it would impinge upon the freedom/privacy of the general public, at the same time i think it would help locate the victims of abduction. i think that would be a good thing.

I've been using these Lil' Topper sipper caps too and I love them! I've bought them for all my friends and I even use them myself when I'm working out. They actually fit on all water bottles (that I've tried) and my daughter can't spill them. She also likes feeling "grown up" because she's drinking a bottle like mom and dad's. I

I also got them from Kangaroodle.com. I love that website ever since I got my shopping cart cover from them. It's great and we get so many compliments on it.
