Tomorrow, I am taking DS to MDO for the first time. I am returning to work next week and thought I'd ease him into day care until a full-time spot opens up in a few weeks by putting him in part-time now so I could get used to leaving him before I had to be in the office.

I am a wreck.

DH keeps trying to cheer me up and nothing is helping. I cannot imagine leaving my child with someone else tomorrow. I know this is irrational, as we went to his class today and he promptly crawled off and played with the toys and kids and was happy as a clam. He is 9 months old, and logically I realize the socialization will benefit him, but I cannot help but feel so low.

How did you get through the first few days?

Hi Kelly's Girl - there's a great WOHM Support (http://www.constantchatter.com/showthread.php?t=5578) thread that you may find good tips on. I know the first day back is tough - I think what you're doing in terms of easing your DS (and yourself) back into things is a great first step!

I am starting DD in an MDO program in a few weeks. Do they have an open house type of night for you to go in and see the room and meet the teacher? That may help put your fears to rest a bit. I'm doing 2 days a week and when I signed DD up I really was on the fence. But the closer we get to the starting time (I signed her up about 4 months ago, so she was much younger developmentally then) I feel better and better. Plus I know it will be so fun for her and that it will be nice for me to have some time for myself, and when #2 comes in the winter I will need some time with just 1 baby. I would talk it over with the teacher as well, so she knows that you are having doubts- she can help allay your fears, too.

I put DD in MDO for a couple of months this past spring. I was a little worried at first, I interview several places and visited two. I met her teachers, saw them interact with the other kids and left DD with the teachers for about 15 minutes while I spoke with the director. When I came back she was in the thick of things, playing, babbling to the teachers and having a great time. She didn't even see me come in. I felt comfortable putting her in after that. From time to time I'd drop in at a non drop-off or pick-up time and she was always happy and smiling and having fun. It was a neat experience for both of us, she "made" me Mothers Day and Easter gifts, had her first "school pictures" made, had a waterday on the last day of "school" and made lots of little friends. I loved putting her in MDO!
