Anyone else over here love biographies? I don't read them exclusively but I do love them.
I just read Dearest Friend: A Live of Abigale Adams. Link is here:Dearest Friend (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/074323443X/qid=1121212464/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_ur_1/104-9603814-8397525?v=glance&s=books&n=507846)
I loved this. It was a fascinating look into her life.
Another favorite of mine is:
Anne Sexton: A biography

I love biographies! My favorite are the ones of classic female movie stars. The best one I've ever read is Marlene Dietrich by Maria Riva (http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?userid=Xu6GJjdBMt&isbn=0345386450&itm=1). Marlene Dietrich's daughter wrote the book. It's totally fascinating, you can't put it down - and it's a huge book.
Other biographies/autobiographies I've read are of Grace Kelly, Lucille Ball, Lauren Bacall, Katharine Hepburn, Bette Davis, Esther Williams, Judy Garland, Marilyn Monroe and two Elizabeth Taylor ones. They're better than fiction!
I really want to read It Seemed Important at the Time : A Romance Memoir by Gloria Vanderbilt (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0743264800/qid=1121281430/sr=8-3/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i3_xgl14/104-9044805-9857565?v=glance&s=books&n=507846). Sounds like a good read.

I just read (and really enjoyed) the Julia Childs autobiography, My Life in France (http://www.amazon.com/My-Life-France-Julia-Child/dp/1400043468/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/002-9117189-7180809?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1180767091&sr=8-1). I'd recommend it.
I don't know if you'd consider a memoir the same thing as an autobiography, but I'd highly recommend these:
The Glass Castle: A Memoir (http://www.amazon.com/Glass-Castle-Memoir-Jeannette-Walls/dp/074324754X/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/002-9117189-7180809?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1180767138&sr=1-1) by Jeannette Walls
Angela's Ashes (http://www.amazon.com/Angelas-Ashes-Frank-McCourt/dp/0007205236/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/002-9117189-7180809?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1180767171&sr=1-1) by Frank McCourt
Don't Let's Go to the Dogs Tonight: An African Childhood (http://www.amazon.com/Dont-Lets-Dogs-Tonight-Childhood/dp/0375758992/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/002-9117189-7180809?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1180767210&sr=1-1) by Alexandra Fuller

I love reading biographies and autobiographies. I used to stumble across so many when cataloguing at the library that I probably wouldn't have sought out otherwise. I think my favorite was "Running with Scissors: A Memoir" by Augusten Burroughs. It was recently made into a movie, but I haven't seen it yet; I'm a bit worried it won't have the same impact.

Has anyone read John Adams (http://www.amazon.com/John-Adams-David-McCullough/dp/141657588X/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1208112706&sr=1-1) by David McCullough? I've been watching the miniseries on HBO and it's so good it's making me want to read the book. Did anyone read it and enjoy it?

DH read it first and loved it, which is saying a lot considering he's a software engineer. ;) He suggested I read it too. I absolutely loved the book. Normally, I'm not a huge non-fiction person (I'm an English teacher, so I read a lot of the classics), but this book was really hard to put down at night.
