Hi all --

I searched and didn't find a similar thread...

We're finally going to be buying a gas grill (decided that since we're having a BBQ for DD's birthday in a few weeks, it would be helpful to have a grill). :p

I don't want to spend a huge amount of $$$. The absolute max would be $400, but I'd prefer to keep it between $200 and $300.

DP is insisting on stainless steel grates, which, from what I can tell on Consumer Reports, severely limits our choices, since most of those grills are much more expensive.

So, I'd love to hear recommendations. Also, does your grill have a burner on the side? If so, do you use it? If not, do you miss it?

Thanks for your thoughts everyone!!

My only piece of advice is to get one that has an easy-to-clean and durable drip can. There are a lot out now that have the little cupboard underneath, which would be handy for leaving stuff like the brush to clean the grates.

(Our dog dismantled the wussy drip thing that came with the grill in about 20 min. Even if you don't have a dog, it would be nice to have it easy to clean.)

We just have the regular non-stick grates, so I can't comment on the stainless steel. We also don't have a burner and I don't miss it. Our kitchen is right near our patio (with the grill and table), so if there's anything that needs sauteing, I'd rather just do it inside anyhow instead of carrying a pan out and back in. If your backyard is setup such that your grill and table are further, it might be more handy.

I've always heard to stay away from Char-Broil brand grills - they are inexpensive and you get what you pay for.

We have a side burner, but I have never used it at all. I have no clue what to even use it for!

Our place to store our utensils is open (sort of like a basket on the front), however, whenever I take off the cover, one of the utensil always goes flying! It would be nice to have one that had an area where that was enclosed.
