Okay travel experts...
we're having a destination wedding 3/24/07 in Cabo. We're expecting somewhere in the neighborhood of 80 guests, mostly coming from LA (LAX)
From searching online, the best fares are in the $500 range.
Through the travel agent we have contacted, the best fare we can get is $399.
but that seems really high for Cabo. We flew last summer for $250 and granted, gas and taxes have gone up, but still...
So do we book now? Wait it out and hope that fares go down? Any advice?
Thanks!

I don't know, but I waited and all my guests got SHAFTED. When they all started looking flights to Milan were like $700 which is the highest I have ever paid and I fly NY-MIL at least 2x a year. So I told them all to wait, and they waited and waited and some ended up paying $1k :(.
I say if they are willing to pay that price, let them. At least they know they can get there.

I would book now. Prices rarely get better if you wait. Also, I've been checking prices from L.A. to Cabo for the last couple months and the prices have all been much higher than in previous years. They may have increased the base price on this route because it's so popular-- and I'm sure gas prices have something to do with it also. I'm not sure it's getting any cheaper, at least not this year. :(

I would tend to agree with you. Actually the agent that we have been dealing with told us that Cabo rates have gone way up this year because of the hurricane damage to Cancun last year. I suppose I hesitate because I have seen rates change significantly as the date gets closer. We went to Maui last week. Our friends booked in Jan and good pretty good fares. Feb-March the fares totally skyrocketed, and then went way back down in April. It's weird.
I guess we will book ours and encourage immediate family to do so as well.
thanks :)
