When did you move your DC from finely pureed foods to lumpier finger foods? Not sure when to make that transition. My DS is 8 mos. today.
Thanks for your feedback.

We started doing Gerber puffs at 8 months & moved on to other finger foods at 9 months. Seems to be going well so far!

We started with Cheerios and moved on to other soft finger foods around 8 months and now at 10 months we are almost entirely off purees. DD has started fighting me and/or refusing the spoon, so it's just too much drama but I do still try to feed her at least a jar mixed with cereal at dinner and help her put some of the finger foods in her mouth because although her pincer grasp is improving, she still doesn't get that much in her mouth on her own and I want her to be full for better sleeping. We will probably be done with even that jar in another few weeks.

I think we did that around 9 months?
I agree to start off with veggie puffs and cheerios--things that dissolve easily in their mouths. When they seem to be really getting the hang of the grasping and the hand to mouth coordination, you can start adding some other soft foods. When they start getting teeth, you can start adding in some other, more solid foods.
Some good soft foods to start with:
banana
pear
cooked apple
avocado
well-cooked carrots
peas
soft bread
pasta
cheese
finely shredded meats
potatoes
sweet potatoes

For us it has been/is a very gradual process. We would try to do one finger food with each meal. So he would get a puree, and something to pick up. At first it might just be 3 or 4 pieces of banana, or something.
At 10 months we still do some purees but the finger food is a larger part of the meal. I haven't been able to get him to eat an entire jar of food for a week or so. I do still do jars just to speed things along and to make sure he is getting some variety.
