Reposting my questions:

Okay so I have a question- When you give your baby a bottle how much do you feed him?? I read in the formula part of my book that they typically eat 2-3 oz of formula as a newborn and that breastfed babies eat even less. When DH feeds him EBM he sucks down the first 4 oz and starts crying for more. I have told DH to absolutely not feed him more than 4 oz and he fed him 10oz twice yesterday!! Then he was spitting up and grumpy for the rest of the day and into the night (which he hasn't spit up in days since my milk finally regulated itself to how much he eats). I know it is because he must have gorged himself and his lil tummy couldn't handle any more. Also... If they do still act hungry after their bottle feeding what do you do to soothe them rather than feeding them more??

Another question- Anyone getting a lil bit of the baby blues here and there? We had a bunch of family over as kind of a meet the baby bbq and I was so depressed afterwards. I knew that my life would change and revolve around Collin but Saturday I was feeling like I had lost my identity... I am no longer April, I am just Collin's mom. The entire day it was Where's Collin? He's STILL napping? And then a ton of advice/stories that I didn't ask for about babies. Not once did anyone talk about how I was doing or what was going on in their lives... I tried bragging a lil about my promotion and it just got switched to Collin and how I dare leave him with his dad all day! I don't know... I'm better now but I was an absolute mess Saturday night and into Sunday.

A 1 month appt wasn't in the plan but Noah has thrush so we went in today to get checked and get meds. His next appt is his 2 month appt on Aug 9.

I went to Children's Place today. They are having a 50% off already reduced prices. The prices there are already resonable and this sale makes them even better.

Stay well ladies.

We have our 2 week appt tomorrow. Hopefully Ayla's continued to gain weight.

We've been so busy lately. Ayla's only 2 weeks old and she's already been to Cleveland and Chicago. We got back from Chicago late last night, so now my house is a mess and there's so much to do. I'll probably only be lurking for the rest of the week so I can get caught up around here. Hopefully things will then calm down and I can participate a little more.

lilmrs I answered in the other thread, but here goes:

Nicholas eats 2-3 oz. of formula. Once or twice he's gone up to 4 oz. He normally ate about every 2 hours, 3ish at night. The past few days he's been wanting to eat almost hourly at certain times of the day. I think he's having a 3 week growth spurt b/c he was also very cranky yesterday, then slept the majority of the day today (when he wasn't eating), which is unusual for him. But anyway, I feed him as much as he wants. I figure his body knows what it needs.

P.S. Is anyone else experiencing this sudden constant eating at the 3 week mark? Is the 3 week growth spurt real?

jbenny - we definitely experienced the 3wk growth spurt!

When you give your baby a bottle how much do you feed him??
we give him 3 oz but we stop in between and burp him and pull the bottle out every once in a while since he pretty much inhales it and thinks he is still hungry. we made the mistake of giving him more than 3 and all we got was spit up.

Anyone getting a lil bit of the baby blues here and there?
thankfully no, but what made it rough was my cousin's death 2wks after Javan was born. it was really a rough dealing with all those emotions.

i never got to answer most of the questions in our last thread so here's some answers to some questions
weight i gained 29.5 lbs and i have lost most of it. i still need to lose 13 to get to pre-preg weight and then 8 after that and i'll be happy.

back to work i go back in october so will have had 17wks of by the time i get back.

pumping i pump about once or twice a day and we usually used the EBM when we go out or if i need to get some work done then dh will feed him.
i hate that my left breast is always more full than the right....anyone else have this happen to them?

sleeping arrangements baby is in the bassinet in our room at night, naps in his crib or on the bed during the day.

cio nope...not until he's older and we have to. i dont immediately run to him when he starts to fuss, i used to in the beginning but now i wait til i know if he's really crying for something or just fussing cos he cant get comfy.

driving/crying i experienced this for the first time yday and it was awful for me. i took my mind of his crying and turned the music up some. when he got quiet i stuck my hand in the back and reached for him and that set him off again...i wont do that again!

Can anyone help me with posting a pic?
sleeping- she sleeps in a bassinet/pnp in our room at night, and naps either in her crib or in the bouncy chair:rolleyes:
feeding- we feed EBM exclusively, and basically feed her however much she'll eat. It is usually between 3-4 oz every 3-4 hours. I figure since its BM, let her eat what she needs.
question is it proper to send thank-yous for gifts received at a baptism that you already personally thanked the giver for? I know you do for showers, but wasn't sure about this. I am planning on sending the godparents a picture and a thank you anyway.

Thanks!

Bottle amounts - we've been putting 125ml (just over 4oz) in his bottle, because he'll take anywhere from 70-125.

Baby blues - God yes. Actually, it's not so bad anymore, but for a while there a week or so ago I was worried about post-pardum depression, but I think it was just a case of the baby blues one night. I mostly find myself weepy when I haven't had much sleep and DH has been gone all day.

Well, I took Brady in to the ped yesterday, and he seems to think it may be reflux, or at least wants to rule that out first. I was hoping it was nothing, so at least he's not ill. The ped gave us some medicine samples and we're trying those out. I think it might actually be working, because Brady was an absolutel angel last night, had a wonderful feeding before he went to bed, and actually slept through the night!! We were stunned. I fed him at 10:30 and he fell right asleep, put him down in his crib afterwards, and he didn't wake up until 4:30. Even then, he wasn't crying and I had to go and gently remind him he was hungry. I hope this is a pattern that sticks! I just need to make sure he gets enough feedings in during the day, which he is. I asked my ped yesterday if it was OK to let him sleep that long now, and he said by all means, yes. Oh, and Brady weighed 8lbs! It's weird to think that by the end of his 7th week, he'll have doubled his birth weight. We're so proud of him...

Gina yay for STTN!! That's great!

Baby Blues I've been lucky and have handled the whole transition from pregnant to mom really well. I'm normally very emotional, but I haven't had any problems with the baby blues. I've only had one breakdown the second day we were home. Nothing since.

Yesterday was my first day alone with DD and we made it through unscathed. (A great feat since DH leaves at 8:30 in the morning and doesn't get home until well after DD is down for the night - last night he didn't get home until 11:30!) I even got a shower! Today I've already washed dishes and taken DD for a walk, and I've managed to get in breakfast and lunch! I'm so lucky to have been blessed with such a content baby...

I am so sorry I haven't stopped in for a while! Declan is such a good baby...but I still don't have the free time that I was anticipating I would have during maternity leave. I'm taking advantage of some downtime after his 4 a.m. feeding to catch up with all you new Moms and babies. A lot of CUTE babies were born in June! :D

Baby's name: Declan
Baby's birthdate: June 8
Your user name: amurphy
your name and age: E 31
DH's name and age: B 34

Baby Name: Declan
Weight:
Birth: 8 lbs 11 oz
1 wk: 8 lbs 5 oz
2 wk: 8lbs 13 oz
Length:
Birth: 21 in.
1 mth:

Declan was weighed by the ped at two weeks and we were told that we wouldn't need another visit until his two month appointment so I don't have his current weight and length....but he is a chubby boy!

When you give your baby a bottle how much do you feed him??
We've only given Declan a bottle three times. The first time I made the mistake of bringing only a 2.5 oz. bottle with us out to dinner. I ended up sitting in a bathroom stall to nurse him. Now we give him 4 oz. and burp him a few times during the feeding to avoid a spit up incident.

Anyone getting a lil bit of the baby blues here and there?
Not really. I did cry to DH a few days ago because I tried to squeeze into prepregnancy clothes and found only a handful of things currently fit this crazy body. That snowballed into feeling unattractive and certainly the lack of sex/intimacy with DH came into play. DH did a good job of comforting me and I got back on my feet quickly.

Like Shaq, I haven't answered a lot of the questions posted lately. Here's an attempt to get to some of them!

back to work I go back in September. I'll have had 12 weeks of leave...not nearly enough.

pumping I also pump about once or twice a day and we also use the EBM when we go out (unless we are at someone's house--in that situation I find an empty room to nurse). Shaq, my right breast is always more full than my left. I feel lopsided!
While we are on the topic, how much do you all plan on storing? Do you have a goal of how much milk you'd like stashed in the freezer by the time you go back to work?

sleeping arrangements Declan has slept in his crib since about day four. He usually comes into the bed with DH and I after his last feeding of the night (around 5 a.m.) since that seems to be his fussy time.

cio Not yet.

baby bottles- haven't done it yet. we were trying to wait until 3 weeks and now that we are at almost 4, we just haven't had the need to give her one. pumping isn't my favorite thing so we don't have that much anyway. we are trying to be careful when and how we use it.

baby blues- not really. I get sad sometimes thinking about the pregnancy being over even though I really didn't enjoy it that much. I waited so long to get pregnant and it's over! I am enjoying every minute with Mallory, she is really a good baby. if there is anything I am struggling with, it's lack of adult conversation during the day. I am nervous about going back to work and leaving her but I am not a good be by myself and in the house most of the time kind of person. what is everyone doing during the day? maybe I can get some good ideas??

back to work- I took 12 weeks so mid-september. they did want me to come in for a meeting today and I bailed. just not ready.

sleeping- DD is in her crib at night and either in the swing or the bouncy seat during the day.

CIO- nope. and I wish DH would get quicker at reacting to her cries. trusting DH to do the right thing is pretty difficult.

baby blues yes, I still have them. I seem to get weepy a lot, less and less each day. I was (and still am, truth be told) concerned about his weight and the bf'ing. That tends to get to me. I don't have any of the other signs of PPD, but I am certainly on the look out for them.

Thanks for the new thread!

Hello :)

So I took Peyton to the pedi today because he has still been throwing up all the time and been really constipated too. It's been effecting his sleep too. The pedi says he probably has reflux and prescribed Zantac 2x per day starting tonight for the throwing up and to switch to a lactose free(soy) formula for the constipation. I hope this works because he (and we) are so miserable and have been for about a week. my poor boy cries and seems in pain all the time and it breaks my heart.:(

The pedi also said that 6 weeks he is 13lbs :eek: :eek: :eek: :eek: But dr was not worried he just said he's gonna be a bog boy!! Um, yeah u could say that.

Dan's Girl - we're on Day 2 of Axid (which is the same as Zantac) and I really do think I've already seen an improvement. I have to say, I wasn't that crazy about giving my newborn medication already (reflux seems to be too common if you ask me), but Brady's not throwing up as much as he was, and he's sleeping like a champ. Hope it works for you too!

pink - I like the announcement. We are working on Noah's now.

pacifier use - we tried avoiding a pacifier but he has been cranky due to the thrush and one night we had to cave. It only helped a little. Since then we pretty much only use it when we are out and about and I can't get my boob to him right away. I've also used it to calm him during a diaper change.

I boiled the pacifiers since we do not have a sterilizer, how do I get out the trapped water? The instructions say to boil and then remove trapped water, but then doesn't tell me how to do it.

Noah was 1 month yesterday. He is starting to fit into NB size outfits. At his appt on Monday he was 7 lbs 5.5 oz. His hospital discharge weight was 5 lbs 4 oz. Mommy's milk must be doing its thing.

pacifiers I'm not sure how to remove the water, sorry. We're using the Soothie from the hospital, which is just one solid piece. Nicholas doesn't seem to like the Nuk-style. Anyway, he sometimes takes it and sometimes doesn't, but I try to give it to him at bedtime at least, b/c the First Candle/SIDS Alliance recommends pacifier use to help prevent SIDS. They think a pacifier helps to keep a baby's airway open and prevents them from falling into such a deep sleep state that breathing stops. It's also so soothing for them since it reminds them of the womb. I've been following HBB by Dr. Karp and he says babies have a need to suck for that reason. Much like responding to every need, I feel pacifier use is something that is good for them when they're young, but needs to be phased out eventually.

Hello All :D

We do have cuties here :D

So things are going ok. I had to give Troi formula last night and today :( My supply has dropped severely and I still can't nurse. I was hysterical yesterday cause I feel like my body is failing me. I'm ok today though. Still going to pump and hopefully we'll get his latch fixed soon.

Well the thing we were hoping for last thread still hasn't happened, it will probably take a while. However, we found out today, that Brian was approved through the V.A. for lap band/gastric bypass surgery. His company insurance doesn't cover it so we thought it wasn't possible. We started checking around and the cheapest place we found it for was $25k. Not sure about all of you, but we don't have $25k laying around so we again thought it wasn't possible. Then his dad suggested calling the V.A., Brian was in the military. They finally got back to us today, and he is covered and the only co-pay we have is $952 :D He is so happy, as am I. Now we just have to go to the dr visits and whatever else is needed, but it is going to happen :D

Nikolas is awake, gotta run. Stay well.

Lorraine, I'm so sorry you are having difficulties with your supply. I have been following the BFing thread and have seen the ups and downs. I want to offer you huge hugs! I too am exclusively pumping because Lucas won't even latch on at all and it has been hard to keep up with him. I had a small stash in the freezer and had to use it last weekend during a trip. I hope things start going better very soon, whether your supply goes up from pumping or that Troi latches on better so it's not as painful for you. Good luck! {{HUGS}}

Amanda She has a hard time staying awake to eat during the day so I have to fight with her. In the mornings, brfore bedtime, and at her nighttime feedngs she eats better. I really don't want to have to supplement...I wonder if I culd just pump that way I know exactly how much she is getting...

Mystikal we had the same problem with Jackson. He got dehydrated in the hospital and lost more than 10% of his weight before we were released (I had a c/s, so we were there 4 days). They had us supplement that weekend (some formula and any breastmilk I could pump) in addition to continuing to try the bf'ing. We were giving him 2 oz every 3 hours and it was torture for all of us - he would literally sleep through the feedings because it was so much volume and calories. He was up 10 oz within 2 days of release.

Since then, he lost weight again (we stopped supplementing), so we started supplementing again. We just got the hang of the bf'ing (switched positions), so we're on exclusive bf'ing now.

If you have to supplement, you can definitely use pumped milk. I made sure that I gave him the breast first so he realized that we were still making attempts at that and then gave him the bottle.

He's a little over 3 weeks and is just getting back to his birthweight.

Good luck with everything. I never thought I could be so concerned and anxious about a few ounces! Let us know how it goes - you may not have to do anything yet.

mystikal: Don't judge how much your DD is getting by the pump. Pumps are less effective than a baby. I paniced the first time around and cried that I was starving my baby. We ended up supplementing and BFing for 9 months. I can't remember if you had a reduction or not. Feel free to PM me if you need some support. There are quite a few things I wish I'd known the first time around that have made things easier this time. Hope things improve soon.

Baby Lust

Rachel, I agree with Bottleored. Try nursing first, then pump to help establish your supply. But by giving her a bottle of EBM, you would know how much she is eating, and that may help avoid supplementing with formula. Good luck! And try not to stress out about it! If you have to give her a bit of formula to help her gain weight, it's not a big deal. Whatever is best for Julia and I know you would do anything and everything for her! :)

Hey Everyone!

Dan'sgirl-Those pics are too cute! Since my mom just got a really nice new digital camera I think I want to take some artsy photos of Collin.

Mystikal- Just an FYI- Newborns are suppose to lose up to 10% of their body weight the first week and then be back to their body weight at their 2 week appointment. It is truly hard to tell if your lil one is growing alright until you actually weigh them. Collin will chub up one day and then look so skinny the next because he just grew another inch. I really hope that your appointment went well.

~~~
Update on us.. Collin is doing great! We had a couple of good days with no spitting up but it came rightback. Can't complain too much though atleast I know he's getting enough. He is growing up so much everyday it is so amazing! He is four weeks old today and I am in complete shock.. I can't beleive that I have to go back to work in a just a couple more weeks! Lil_Mrs you look great, and Collin is such a handsome man!!
Maryanne Melody is so beautiful. I love her eyes!!
I took Julia to her two week appt today and she has lost 8 ozs putting her at 6lbs 4 ozs (1lb 3ozs less than her birthweight.) The dr wants me to supplement with 2ozs of formula twice a day after nursing. I am also supposed to pump while I'm giving her the formula. I just feel like such a bad mother because she's not getting everything she needs from me. :( I almost started crying at the dr office.
Rachel, You most certainly are NOT a bad mother!!!!! You are a great mother for being concerned and making sure she is getting what she needs, regardless of where it comes from!!!!!! Hopefully the formula won't last long and she will be back on Mommy Milk full time very very soon!! {{HUGS}}
Rachel you're not a bad mom!! You are making sure your baby is nourished and that's the most important thing. I completely understand where you are coming from - I was in the same place. She will gain weight with the supplement - formula or breastmilk - and with weight gain and calories she will awaken more easily for feedings. At first, Jackson was sleeping 5+ hours pretty consistantly, but it was because he was dehydrated. I never thought I'd be so happy that he's only sleeping about 3 hours at a stretch at night now!
You should also get some help with breastfeeding - I got support from my local county department of health, but perhaps your hospital or La Leche. For us, a change in position did wonders.
BTW, I've cried at the dr's office, the LC's office, in front of the maternal child health nurse, etc.... {{{HUGS}}}
Just wanted to say real quick Hayden got his shots last week. It was sad but he did really well and barely cried, just squealed, I think he cried more when I took off the bandaids.
So at two months he is 9 lbs 7.5 oz, 22 & 1/4" long I believe they said. He's still a wittle guy but he's getting there. Gotta get back to him.
Mystikal: {{{{HUGS}}}}. Best advice I can give- start supplementing and high tail it to the lactation consultant. You could even try one of the at breast supplementers- I heard they have a learning curve so you don't make a mess of yourself- but then you'd have the best of both worlds. I supplemented Mia for 9 months. It was tough, but very worth it. She got the calories she needed and every little bit of breast milk counts. There are ways of getting off of supplements if the problem is fixable, but until then you do what's best. When does Julia go back- I would assume they'd want to check her weight again in the near future.
Keep in mind that you are doing what's best for your daughter, regardless of if it's with breast milk, formula or a combo.
How long did it take for you to get AF after you had your baby?
I have been feeling alittle crampy lately & dont know if it is about to happen or not.
Adrienne~ I am having my first AF now at almost 7 weeks PP. Its light one day and heavier the next and even one day it wasnt there at all. UGH!:rolleyes: Are you starting BC?
What kind of BC is everyone taking?? Im starting Ortho Tri Cyclen LO this coming sunday. I researched pills with a low estrogen level since I get headaches. Has anyone else taken this?
Everyone's babies are so cute!
sunshine, I think it depends heavily on whether or not you are BFing and if youare supplementing. However, despite exclusive BFing, I am also feeling crampy and am wondering if AF is on her way at a little over 7 weeks. With my DD I got it at around 3 months pp but I have heard of it staying away for up to 14 months or longer if you are BFing.
Period- I am hoping that it doesn't come before my birth control kicks in. I am planning on getting the low hormonal IUD that lasts 5 years. If we still don't want anymore children when it is up then DH will get a vasectomy.
So I went ahead and signed up for curves yesterday and will go in for the first time this afternoon. I am really excited to start getting back into shape. Is anyone else starting up their exercise routines yet? If so what are you doing and how much are you looking to lose? I still have another 20 lbs to lose, my eating habits changed and we (DH too) started eating a lot healthier and drinking water most of the day while I was pg so I plan to just keep that as a life style and avoid crash diets.
We took Lucas to the Well Baby Clinic yesterday to have him weighed and to talk to a LC. He is up to 9 lbs 7 oz and 22 1/4". Wow, he is sure getting big!
I was able to get Lucas to nurse 3 times yesterday and once so far today, so hopefully the trend continues so I can pump to build a freezer stash, rather than to feed Lucas right away.
Hope everyone else is doing well! We need more pictures! :D
Thanks for all the responses to my ? - after Bailey was born I went for almost 3 wks. & since I'm not BF'ing I was not sure on when AF would come back. I am not looking forward to it.
I go to the dr for my 6 wk on Aug 16th ... it will actually be 8 wks pp but that was the only appt he had open.
YAZ Birth Control: I saw a commercial for it today & thought about taking it - I was on triphasil (sp?) for almost 9 years so I know they work for me
Damn you guys, with all your talk of AF....
With Connor, mine didn't return until 7 mos. post partum when we were partially weaning (he was down to 3-4 sessions/day at the time.
.... I don't know for sure if she's actually back but this morning, I felt some wetness and so I went to the bathroom and found there was a few drops of fresh blood (my lochia stopped at about 10 days post partum, by the way)
I'm quite surprised it's shown up already, as I'm still nursing 'round the clock, it seems....
Though, that was several hours ago, and there hasn't been any more blood since then. Strange...
Hi ladies,
It's been a while since I've posted. I hope you are all well and are enjoying life with your little ones.
Owen is now 3 1/2 weeks old. I love him more each day :) I took him to his 2nd ped appt this week. My little man now weighs 10 lbs, 14 ounces and is 22 inches long. I can't believe how big he is, although he did start out at a hefty 9 lbs, 6 ounces, 21 inches.
I am BFing exclusively. I tried pumping twice, but he hates drinking out of the bottle. The ped said I should start getting him used to bottle feeding, at least a few times per week (either EBM or Formula), but O absolutely hates the bottle and he his not fond of forumul either.
He eats every 2-3 hrs during the day. My biggest challenge is at night. He will only sleep for 1 1/2 hrs and then he wants to eat again. This is horrible- especially at 2am when I am dead tired. I do my best to get him to eat as much as possible, so that he will sleep longer, but to no avail. He falls asleep very easily when BFing. I blow on his face, tickle his feet and even put a cool wash cloth on his chest and face to wake him. He does wake, but only for a few more sucks and then he is out again.
Any ideas on how I can get him to sleep longer at night? My mom, along with others say "just give him rice cereal... that will get him to sleep through the night." I try to explain that the ped's do not recommend any other food other than Breast Milk or Formula until 6 months but they don't believe me. Whatever......
Anyway, do you guys have any ideas? Nighttimes are killing me......
TIA for your suggestions.
Have a great day,
steviem
Stevie that is/was my problem with DD. But the reason she would fall asleep while nursing was because she had to work way to hard to get any BM at all. When I had her at the doctor last Monday she had lost even more weight (down 1lb 3ozs from birth) so I started supplementing with formula until I could up my supply and now she stays awake much longer while nursing. Some tricks I was told about were changing positions. If you nurse in the cradle hold try the cross cradle or the football hold. Sometimes when I'm really tired and DD wants to do nothing but nurse all night long I will put her in bed with me and DH (I know, no-no) and nurse her lying down. She eats for as long as she wants, and if she wakes up wanting more she finds the breast easily. Of course, I'm not sleeping soundly because I want to make sure I don't roll over on her, but it helps a little. Also try burping him, that might wake him up enough to nurse some more. Good luck, and I'm glad he's gaining so well!! :D
DH and I are on our way out the door right now, but I'll be back sometime Monday to update. I take Julia to the doctor for another weight check. Think chubby! :p
dansgirl Congrats on the house!
exercise (someone asked awhile back) This week I started TIVO'ing some shows to do when I have time. So far I really like Denise Austin's shows that are on Lifetime in the morning. They're easy, which is good for me b/c I never exercised, so I'll need to start very slowly! It's also good b/c I'm so uncoordinated. Seriously, I cannot move my arms and legs at the same time, it's really bad. If you watch Denise closely, she's not that great at some of the yoga moves, so that makes me feel better, too. I've lost 32 lbs. My current weight is 139 lbs. I've been stuck between 138-140 for a week or so, no progress! It frustrating. I just keep trying to tell myself that it's only been a month. It really bugs me when I need to wear something nicer than my tshirts and gym shorts, b/c I just can't fit into anything!
birth control I'm dreading this. The last b.c. I used was the OrthoEvra Patch. I'm not sure if they are still prescribing that or not, but I'd rather not use it anyway given the recent info on it. It bums me out b/c it was SO easy and the pill I was on prior made me sick. I was also really, really bad at taking it everyday, which didn't matter since I had to take Clomid to get PG anyway. That makes me wonder if I need to take b.c., but I guess I should b/c you never know. Anyway, I hate the Pill, but I don't want to do any other method.
QOTD- Has anyone DTD yet?
DH and I are both more than ready. My six-week checkup is on Wednesday, when I expect to get the all clear. I'm wondering how it will feel...different than before (what's that saying- "like throwing a hot dog down a hallway":o )? Will it be painful? I kind of feel like a reborn virgin. :D
Erinn thanks. One of the things I'm going to ask the lactation consultant on Monday at our appointment is about my use of a nipple shield. I have flat nipples and was given a nipple shield by the nurse the first time I tried to feed DD. The first week we were home I think my milk supply was really good because I would wake up in the middle of the night and the sheets would be soaked from leaking milk. Then it stopped. I just read the other day that prolonged use of a nipple shield can cause a deacrease in your milk supply because your breasts aren't stimulated enough. I've slowly weaned DD off of it and only use it occasionally for a few minutes and she is definitely staying awake to nurse much longer now. :)
jay&erinn
07-22-2006, 06:45 PM
Mystikal: I wondered about the shield when you mentioned it before. Good for you weaning Julia on your own. I've heard that's really hard to do for a lot of people once the baby gets used to it being there. Keep working on it and let me know how your appt with the LC goes and how Julia's weight check is. Do you think she's gained?
jbenny: My weight loss has stalled out too. It really frustrating. I have 5 pounds to lose to get back to where I was before having Ayla and 10 to get back to where I was before having Mia. Unfortunately I don't think losing 5 pounds will get me into my pre-pregnancy clothes. The second time around has really done a number on my body.
DTD: Not yet. We're barely 4 weeks out yet. I will tell you that last time around it was pretty uncomfortable the first few times. I will definately indulge in a little alcohol prior to our first time this time around. It may have something to do with BFing though= I've heard that it can make it a little tougher.
Who was it that recommended the Outsmarting the Female at Cell book? jbenny? I've been reading it and I like it, although I'm not ready to accept my fat yet. I'm really hoping to get back into my pre-pg clothes before I go back to work in a month, but not optimistic.
We're doing well. I think Sam may be dropping one of his night feeds, which I'm excited about. He's been passing out downstairs with us sometime between 9 and 10 and then doesn't wake up to eat until 4, then again at 6. It's only been a couple of days, but I hope it is a pattern. I'm a real wimp about sleep and I have to get up really early for work (when I go back) so I'll be happy if he keeps this schedule up.
jbenny75
07-23-2006, 07:21 AM
jayanderin That'll be a good excuse for me to have my first drink!
Orange I didn't recommend that book, but I'm gonna check it out. Sam's schedule sounds great. I wish Nicholas would do that! He sleeps a long stretch from 8-9 to 12-1, but after that it's still every two hours. We're approaching six weeks, and I've read their sleep patterns change at that point, so I'm interested to see what will happen.
Mystikal: Thank you for the suggestions.
I just can't wait for him to sleep for longer periods throughout the night. He did better last night.... he mostly 2 hrs between feedings (12am, 2am, 4am) but then he was up again at 5am and didn't want to go back to sleep. Fun stuff!! :)
sleeping.... it's getting a bit better. Last night was the best ever - down at 11:30, then up at 4 a.m. then up again at almost 8 a.m. And guess what? I got to sleep from 12:30 to 7 a.m. b/c the 4 a.m. feeding was the once-a-week bottle that DH gives to Dawson! :) Of course, I woke up totally engorged. I pumped for a few minutes and got 8 ounces for the freezer!
Weight loss - I'm at a total stall here. I'm 15 lbs over my pre-pg weight and it ain't going anywhere (considering I only gained around 27 lbs, I'm not happy that it's only about half gone). Once the current busy week winds down (We had dawson's christening today...and loads of relatives in town... my parents & sister leave on Thursday), I'm going to get serious about portion control and am going to start counting points again on Weight Watchers (I'm a lifer)
DTD - we have twice last week, and DH wants it again tonight (I could do without still)... first time was at 5 w 5 days, had to it was our 5th anniversary...and then again 4 days later. We have not been given the all clear yet b/c I haven't had my 6 week check yet - I could only get an appt. for 2 weeks from now, when I'm 9 weeks post-partum.
********
Dawson is 7 weeks today - how on earth did that happen? His legs are chubbing out a lot now - what happened to my scrawny newborn? I miss those toothpick fingers and skinny little arms and legs. :(
I had to take Clomid to get PG anyway. That makes me wonder if I need to take b.c., but I guess I should b/c you never know.
This is exactly what I am going to be talking to my OB about on Thursday. I'm sure she will recommend BC because there is always a chance of an "oops" and I'm hoping it will help regulate my cycles... I don't think we are planning on waiting too terribly long to start TTC#2 so hopefully BC for that short time won't mess anything up.
DTD: At one month (I think) we did and it wasn't really that bad. We went out and bought some lube to help out but it was doable. Now DH wants it all the time though. :rolleyes:
Niko&Troi
07-23-2006, 05:08 PM
Hello All :D
Long time no see :) The boys have been keeping me super busy. Troi has more awake time now so I'm usually occupied - I LOVE IT :D
Things are going good. Troi is finally sleeping through the night. He goes down between 10 & 11 and wakes between 5 & 6. It also helps that he's sleeping on his stomach. He won't sleep longer than 15 minutes on his belly. We didn't mind getting up every 15 minutes except he was so cranky cause he was overtired. Last night was also the first night he slept in his room, in his crib. He's been sleeping in bed with me and Brian's been on the futon. Needless to say, I didn't sleep well cause he wasn't with me.
We've started nursing again. His latch is still bad, but no where near as bad as it was in the beginning. There is still pain, but it is minimal. I still don't have enough milk though so we're having to supplement. At least I'm not attached to the pump 24/7 and can have a life outside of the house.
So I wanted to respond:
DTD: Brian won't touch me until I have my IUD, which isn't until the 14th of next month. He said we got pg too easily w/Troi so he's not taking any chances. I still got some condoms though ;)
BC: IUD. The vasectomy is so permanent and I still want a 3rd so IUD it is.
Weight Loss: I'm still below my pre-pg weight, but not sure how much that is.
Exercise: No time or energy :/
AF: Didn't get it until 4 months PP with Nikolas so we shall see.
Anyway, have some pix to post in the next post. Take care and stay well.
DD has been exceptionally cranky yesterday and so far this morning. (She has been awake since 4am and refuses to go back to sleep.) She can't decide if she wants to nurse or just cuddle or not be held at all. I know what's going to happen. MrsBrownie
Good morning to all June Mommies!
First things first, here's my introduction:
Baby's name ~ Ethan Michael
Baby's birthdate ~ June 10, 2006 at 2:53 am
Your user name ~ MrsBrownie
Your name and age ~ Kim (28)
DH's name and age ~ Aaron (29)
Name and age of other children ~ This is our first
Update
Things with us have been great, for the most part. Ethan had his first Cold at 3 weeks old, which was a bit of a challenge. And had a terrible Heat Rash/ Baby Acne last week. Both weeks were pretty hard and he was very fussy and didn't eat alot. But I think we are past this. Ethan is back in the swaddle (I thought he hated it, but apparently not) and is now sleeping from 8:00pm - 4:00am. I usually do a 'Dream Feed' with him about 11:00pm (where he's asleep but still nurses.) We are now on a three hour schedule during the day (eat, play, sleep) and it seems to be working for us.
AF ~ Well, I hadn't stopped bleeding from delivery for a week yet when it all started again. It seems ME (who has always had an irregular and very light period) started my period at 5 weeks post partum. And this one is a doozie...I have never experienced a heavier or longer period in my life. I hope this doesn't keep up.
DTD and BC ~ I was hoping to get a couple of months without AF, but that doesn't seem to have happened (good news is that I'm not PG again.) DH and I resumed DTD about 3 weeks PP. I know we should have waited longer, but we were both really wanting it. We had to adjust things for the first week or two, but now we are back to normal and it's actually been great. I have decided I DO NOT want to go back on BCP...so we are currently using condoms. When I go for my next Dr's appointment, I'm going to look at getting a diaphragm (cause condoms are awful and expensive) We only want two years between kids (so trying around this time next year) so it's a short term thing.
QOTD ~ For anyone who has gotten AF and is BFing, have you noticed a change in your milk supply/flow? I'm positive that my milk supply decreased and Ethan had to work harder to get it...which just compounded the not wanting to eat/fussiness.
Weight Loss ~ Currently down 53 Pounds and the lowest I've been in about 4 years. None of my pre-pregnancy clothes fit...they are all TOO BIG and literally hang off me. My belly is still rather big, but my bum, legs, thighs and arms are all much smaller. I am desperately pulling things out of my closet and trying them on hoping for something that fits. Not that I'm complaining about losing weight, but I have nothing to wear!
Breastfeeding ~ Well, for someone who didn't think she would be able to BF, I'm quite proud of myself. We have been EBF for 6 weeks now and have not had to supplement yet. That isn't to say that it's easy, as everyday I question if he's getting enough. But he has enough wet and dirty diapers, he's very alert and mostly happy, and seems to be growing, so we aren't too worried yet. He's put on 3.5 inches and 24 ozs since leaving the hospital (he's 23.5 inches and 10lbs 3ozs) as of Friday. Considering the two bad weeks we had, I'm pleased with how well we are doing.
Food Sensitivities ~ Ethan has been experiencing terrible gas the last three weeks (for hours on end) which some have said is Colic. Unfortunately (or fortunately) he also has very runny and mucousy stools. The gas isn't happening everyday, which has led me to believe that he has a Food sensitivity. And I've been very good about avoiding Caffeine, Chocolate, Garlic, Onions, Cucumbers, Broccoli and Cabbage...so I know it's not any of those. I believe the culprit is CHEESE or Dairy Products. I did some research last night and he has quite a few symptoms...and his worst periods coincide with days I've had cheese (like the lasagna the other night that lead to 7 hours of inconsolable screaming and no nursing for the entire time.) So, I'm going to eliminate all dairy from my diet for this week and see if things get better. I pray that's it and helps my little one feel better.
Okay, that's it for me...sorry it's so long. Hope everyone is doing well and I will try to post more often now that I've officially joined!
I forgot to post last night...
Troi went for his 2 month check up on Thursday. He's 11 pounds 4 oz, up 2 pounds from one month (50%) and 24 inches long, up 1 inch (90%). He's already outgrowing his 0-3 onsies, they're getting too short for him :/
Still haven't DTD. Ww tried once and it hurt so were scared now. Ob said using condoms and a lubricant would help but neither of us has made the effort to actually go buy any. We haven't done it in atleast 6 mo. :o so I'm SUPER afraid now.
DTD - not yet, even at 9w ppd. Quite frankly, I'm terrified. I was on pelvic rest for the last trimester, so we haven't had sex in 5 months. DH sure is ready to go though. I told him he wasn't going to get away with an eyebrow raise and a head-nod to the bedroom, I need to be wined and dined darnit!
BC - good ol' condoms for us.
Exercise - I've just started up, and seeing as how I'm teaching dance classes in a month, I need to get a move on this. I've been walking, and this past weekend went on a couple of runs. Trying to fit in some strength moves when I can, like doing squats while holding Brady. I did some crunches last week, and am STILL sore from it!
As for us, we're doing well! Brady had his two-month well visit this morning. The first one with all the shots. five of them, to be exact. I'm not going to lie to you, it wasn't pretty. Actually, Brady handled it better than I thought he would, and seemed to settle down pretty quickly afterwards. Plus he got some cool Looney Toons Band-Aids to patch him up. He now weighs 9 pounds (which is more than double his birth weight of 4lbs 2.2oz, I might boast) and is 21 ½ inches long (up 4.5 inches since birth)!! Our little guy is growing up. He’s finally made it on to the growth charts too. He was being treated for thrush, and today the ped told us we could stop giving him Nystatin, which I'm thankful for. Hopefully we've nipped it in the bud for a while.
MrsBrownie - Noah has a food sensitivety as well. Right now I've been avoiding dairy. Make sure to look at ingredients list. Dairy is in more places than you would think.
DTD - Yep we were like rabbits over the weekend.
BC - right now nothing. I will talk to the MW at my appt this Friday. i don't want to ever go back on BCP. On one had I'm not that worried about getting pregnant since before I was PG I didn't ovulate on my own, but on the other hand I realize that being PG can really change my cycle. I may start charting again to see where things are.
Thrush - we are still dealing with it.
Sleeping - still horrible.
Well, took Julia to the ped today for a weight check and then to meet with the LC. She is up six ounces in a week (6 lbs 4 ozs to 6 lbs 10 ozs). I guess that formula is doing the trick. I still wish I hadn't needed to give her any. *sigh* Anyway, she goes back next week just to check on things. The LC showed me how to use the supplemental starter system (like the SNS, only cheaper, lol.) I haven't tried it yet because Julia has been extremely cranky today and I didn't want to mess around with it while listening to her scream.
DTD Am I awful? DH and I did it Friday at 3w1d PP. :o I had a c-section so it didn't really hurt. We coulda used some lube, though.
MrsBrownie so glad you have been able to EBF. I know it's not easy, especially after a BR. Keep it up, I'm proud of ya!! :D
Okay, off to pump and then to bed as DD got me up at 4 am and I haven't been to sleep since. :rolleyes:
Connorsmommy ~ I haven't seen anything yet. Although it might be my own fault, as I only applied for it on July 1st. We had to wait to get our certificate of Live Birth (which I only got around July 1st) so I think I missed this month.
Mind you, I'm still waiting for my EI to start. DS is now 6 weeks old and I've been waiting over 4 weeks (six if you include my 2 week waiting period) for it to start and still haven't received my first payment. The first one will now be a big one, but we are starting to need the money as the savings have quickly been depleted.
Mystikal ~ Thanks for your kinds words. The BF has been a little bit of a challenge (I'm posting Q's like crazy on the BF Support Thread) I'm a little worried that Ethan isn't getting enough (I know, every BFing mother has that concern, but our situation is a little different) and we're dealing with some terrible gas issues. I am wondering if the Fenugreek and Blessed Thistle are the problem or if it is a food sensitivity to dairy. I guess only time will tell.
I'm sorry you are having such problems, but I completely understand what you are going through. I have been quite prepared to supplement DS with formula (even once a day) but we haven't needed it yet. I think that if he doesn't start to gain weight soon though, we aren't going to have a choice. Anyways, I'm also proud of you for sticking with the BF and not just giving up. Even if you have to supplement and pump constantly, at least Julia is getting some of your breast milk, and that's better than nothing IMHO.
DS ~ How have you found Noah now that you've stopped the dairy? I'm wondering if it's dairy, but then it ocurred to me last night that the only other thing it could be is the herbal supplements I'm taking to increase supply. I'm wondering if I should switch over to Domperidone (instead of Fenugreek and Blessed Thistly) But the Domperidone is a drug, whereas the other are natural. But if that's what's causing this terrible gas, then maybe it's worth it. And then again, maybe I don't need anything, but I'm worried about taking the chance to find out.
Okay, gotta get back to bed. Ethan slept from 9:00pm to 4:00am...not bad if you ask me! Yet I'm still exhausted.
mystikal: I'm glad Julia gained weight. Good luck with the SNS- I heard they can be messy at first.
I'm wondering if Ayla is gaining. She seems a little longer, but not any more filled out. We gave her formula 2 times yesturday (once so I could start pumping to go back to work, and once last night since she cried unless I nursed her for 6 straight hours.) Both times she passed out and slept for 2-4 hours. The marathon nursing sessions make me think she's no longer getting enough from me. I also only got 2 ounces when I pumped yesturday morning. She doesn't go back to the doctor for 2 weeks, so I don't know whether to just wait it out or call and see if they can check her weight now.
question Does anyone else have a time when their normally reasonable baby likes to just cry and cry? About 5:30pm every day DD acts completely different than she does the rest of the day. She is normally very easy to console, but at that time she won't want to eat, or will eat a few sips and cry again, won't take her pacifier, even rocking, bouncing, etc will only console her for limited periods. She'll finally fall asleep around 7 or 8, and then is fine when she gets up again. Do I need more of a schedule? Or is this a phase that is normal? She is 6 weeks and has been this way for the past 1 1/2 to 2 weeks. Anyone else have this problem?
Hey girls! I've been completely MIA lately. I've been reading along but didn't have much to add since M was still in the NICU. I think my last post was that she had her 2nd surgery and got to start eating - that was a month ago.
She's come a long way since then. She nearly needed a 3rd surgery (PDA ligation) but escaped it as her PDA became restrictive just a couple days before the surgery was scheduled.
They decided to start her on bottles - we really have to watch her intake so BFing isn't really an option - I pump and feed her bottles. She took off on bottle feeding so quickly - everyone said it usually takes 2-3 weeks but it only took her a week or so. They pulled her NG and for the first time since she was born we got to see her with no tubes/tape on her face.
She came home last Tuesday and has been doing very well. She's eating 3.5 oz every 4 or so hours now. She had a check-up with her ped today. She weighs 7lbs. 8oz. and is 20.25 inches long. 2nd percentile for weight and height. She is being graphed on the regular graph rather than the Down Syndrome graph which is great.
Kaeden is adjusting well and loves his baby sister. He rubs her tummy and back and loves to give her kisses or push her in the swing. M is the sweetest baby - she has literally cried only 5-10 minutes since last week. Today she got her shots and didn't even cry until they had the 3rd needle in her leg.
We met with the Early Intervention people and M will get free services from Occupational Therapy, etc. to help her development.
She's now peacefully sleeping in her swing. I've got to run and get DS to bed.
Everyone's babies are precious. :)
MrsBrownie Af can definetly make your supply go down. But it should return to normal after she is gone. You might also want to try going for two weeks or longer without dairy to see if that helps. I have been told it can take awhile for it to be completely out of your systmem.
Gina That is so great how much Brady has grown!
Mystikal I am glad she has gained some weight. I really hope the SNS helps you out!
Jay Marathon feedings are normal, perhaps it is a growth spurt?
Jcharley Savannah definetly gets cranky around that time, most nights. It is very common for them to be fussy around that time of day.
Kmmommy I have been thinking about you. I am so glad that she is home! How wonderful that must be! I am so glad that your DS is adjusting well to her! And so happy she didn't need another surgery!
I've heard that every baby has a "witching hour," or time when they're fussy and there is just no calming them down. I was also just reading Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child today and it says that babies reach a peak of fussiness around 6 weeks. Nicholas is definitely going through the same thing the past few days-he's been quite cranky and nothing makes him happy. He is also six weeks.
Oh. My. Gosh. We just got back from the pediatrician and guess what? Alex's weight is up to 14 pounds!!! :eek: :eek: :eek: He weighed 6 lbs. 7 oz. at birth and left the hospital at 6 lbs. 1 oz. The doc said he's at the 90% for weight. Duh. hahaha My husband was a big baby, too. In fact, his mother said that he was wearing 18 mo. clothing at 9 mo. and 3T at 12 mo. Yikes! She did have to shorten the pants and arms but he needed 3T for the girth. hahahaha Looks like he's taking after his daddy. The only problem with his rapid weight gain is that he will soon be too heavy for the Bjorn and that is how we get around Manhattan. :(
Had my 6-week check up today. All is well. MW told me that is recommended that we wait 18 months before getting pregnant again since I had a c-section. I would love to have another spring baby but if I follow the guidelines, Noah will be 3 before we have the 2nd child. That's not the end of the world, but I would prefer 2 years. Since I want a VBAC I guess I'll wait. :( A fall baby wouldn't be so bad.
PP bleeding - She asked and neither of us is sure if AF as returned. I bled in the beginning then it stopped and then came back redder and heavier than before. Who knows.
BC - We will use condoms...if we remember :)
hey everyone!
just checkin' in here....
Dawson will be 8 weeks old on Sunday, and I truly don't know where the time has gone.
Yesterday, he had his 5 week check on his circumcision and all is fine....but while I was there, they had the little baby scale in the little room we were in so I popped him on there. He still had his little jumper and a diaper on, so I know he's a little lighter than what it showed, but it had him at 10 lbs, 14 oz... Just two weeks ago he was 9 lbs even! Not bad for a little peanut who had trouble gaining weight a few weeks ago...
We've totally stopped using the Kissaluvs size 0 diapers and have moved up to Small Fuzzi Bunz, which rock! :)
In other news, Dawson was christened last sunday and we had tonz of relatives in town for it. My own parents stayed with us and were supposed to go home on Thursday morning but now they're staying for another month or more. My dad was admitted to the hospital with fluid on the lungs as a result of heart problems (leaky valves) and now he's not allowed to travel back to Manitoba until 4 weeks after he has open heart surgery over here in Calgary. So my mom is staying wth us and my dad is in the hospital until we don't know when. they need to stabilize his heart rate (it's been well over 100 bpm for days) before they can do anything to do the surgery. He's 74 and this week is the 11 year anniversary of his first (and only) open heart surgery when he had quadruple bypass after having a massive heart attack 6 mos earlier. So we're all quite worried about him - if any of you can spare a thought or a prayer for my dad, we'd appreciate it.
ds What does VBAC stand for?
QOTD Anyone dealing with a lot of unsolicited advice?
I felt like a totally bad mom after visiting a friend today to walk with her. She was "advising" me on everything from the baby shouldn't be wearing socks b/c it's too hot to he's too gassy and we need to switch formula to he should sleep on his belly:eek: . She actually took him from me twice when he was crying like I wasn't handling him correctly:mad: . Yay Nicholas for not calming down until his mommy took him back!:) It also seems like when I talk about the baby, like just saying that he does this or that, people think I'm asking for their advice or opinion when I'm simply talking about my son . I was telling the same friend about this funny thing that N does w/ his head, just to share a story, and she started informing me that it was b/c he can't control his head yet. Really, if I didn't know that, I shouldn't have been allowed to leave the hospital with him.:rolleyes: DH thinks I'm too sensitive.
It's been forever since I've posted. Really had no clue how much time one small little person could take up. :) Micah's doing great. He doesn't go back to the doc 'til August 7, so it'll be interesting to see how big he is. He's in 3-6 month onesies, but he's still wearing 0-3 for outfits for the most part. He has a long limbs and a long torso. Diapers are size 1, but I think we're about ready to move up because we've been having some leaks and blow-outs.
He's been really gassy lately, so I've been trying to pay special attention to what I'm eating, but hopefully his little gi tract will get things figured out here soon. I miss ice cream. :) He's been working really hard lately on getting his thumb and hands in his mouth, and it's so funny to see him concentrating so hard on that. He has a lot more patience than I would.
We're cosleeping, which is something I said I would never do, but I really like having him next to me. We have an Arms-Reach co-sleeper, but I always fall asleep while he's nursing, so he's pretty much in our bed full-time.
Nursing is going pretty well. He doesn't seem to have much of a schedule yet, somedays he eats a ton and some days not so much. He even slept from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. a week ago, and my bbs were not so happy about that. But he seems to be gaining well and he seems full when he's done. I still have trepidation about nursing in public, so I try to plan my outings accordingly. We're having trouble getting him to take a bottle, too, but we're working on it.
Well, here are a couple pics before I leave. The second one is a picture of one of his "sleep giggles".
graffy Cute pictures! I love, love, love the sleep giggles. I'm always on the lookout for them, but haven't been lucky enough to catch them w/ the camera.
diapers We've been using size 1-2 almost from the start. I had a bunch of Huggies NB and we were having a ton of leaks and blowouts, so I switched to the Pampers 1-2's that I had from my shower and they worked great. Just this week, I got size 1's b/c BRU didn't have 1-2's and it seems like they won't fit for long.
Ugh, DH was feeding Julia this morning since he doesn't get much time with her during the week and she stopped after about 3.5 ounces and wouldn't take anymore so DH picked her up to burp her one last time (we burp her after every ounce) and she threw up everywhere. :( I guess there was just too much in her tummy. Well, I was in the kitchen doing dishes and she started sucking on her fingers as babies like to do and DH thought that meant she was hungry again so he gave her more formula (so she took six ounces total) and then she threw up again, and this time it came out her nose and everything!! :( He felt awful, I felt awful, so we got her cleaned up and I was getting her dressed after her bath and she threw up again. She's sleeping now and is fine, but DH feels terrible. I explained to him that unless she's sucking on her hands and crying at the same time she's not hungry. Sometimes babies just suck to suck. He's never been around babies before so he is still learning...poor guy. He's afraid to hold her now. lol.
maryanne Great pic...she is a cutie!
kaelynsmom She is a cutie, too and WELCOME! We used to be a pretty fast moving thread. It's kinda quiet now, but everyone's still around from time to time.
mystikal Your poor DH! I've had that feeling after you unitentionally do something wrong. I had DS in the swing the other day and switched it from swinging like a cradle, to swinging like a swing while DS was still in the seat. I pushed the button, turned the seat, and looked down to see him looking SO terrified, with his arms up in the "I'M FALLING!!" way. I still feel SO freakin' terrible whenever I think about how much I scared him. It's comforting to know that they won't remember this stuff.
I just noticed that the info and pic I posted didn't make it to the front. I posted it right as the new page was being created, so it was easily lost.
Welcome Kaelyns mom! This is a great and supportive group of ladies :)
Time is flying by and I can not believe that Peyton will be 2 months old on the 1st. He is so big now and to me doesnt feel like a baby, but a little man. He is smiling, laughing, talking (well cooing ;) ) and plays with us. Yay!
We just recently changed to the #2 nipples for the Avent bottles because the #1 were taking him an hour to eat and he would fall asleep and then want to eat again a hour later. The #2 ones we have to be careful with because he chokes and it pours out the side of his mouth, but we watch close and wipe his mouth.
I need some advice from you wonderful ladies. We are STILL having issues with sleeping. He naps a little in the morning, about 4 or 5 hours in the afternoon (not at one time tho) and then around 7 or 8 pm its like he wakes up alot and doesnt go to sleep again sometimes until midnight, then he is STILL only sleeping 2 hours (maybe) at a time before waking up to eat or play. I'm going back to work this thursday and am going to need more sleep if possible. He wakes himself up by hitting himself in the face but when I swaddle him he gets super mad about being confined. HELP!!!!!!
Hope everyone is doing well. HUGS!
No real time to post, DS is sitting nicely in his chair now, but not sure how long it will last (almost time to eat!)
Things here are OK...Ethan is now doing great, but mommy isn't doing quite as good.
It was decided on Friday that Ethan hasn't gained enough weight (he was at the same weight for about 3 weeks) and that we better start supplementing him. He had taken about 3 bottles of EBM at that point, but as soon as I decided to give him 'some' formula, it was like my milk switched off.
I was devastated (still am, but starting to get a little better) that he would no longer breastfeed. I have been pumping and my supply seems to have increased just in the last 12 hours (went from pumping .5oz to 4 oz this morning) but he still won't go to the breast. So he's getting alot more formula than I wanted.
I have an appt. with our doctor (to get Domperidone) and hopefully discuss with her the problems we are having. He was Tongue Tied at birth and now that he needs more milk and has to work a little harder at getting it, he's become a little lazy.
So, I'm emotional, feeling guilty, etc. but haven't given up yet. At least he's still getting some breast milk and my supply hasn't completely dwindled. We are going to do everything possible to get him back to the breast (breast feeding clinic, lactation consultant, Lact-Aid, etc.) and see if it works.
Other than that...he's doing great. He started smiling two weeks ago and giggles started on the weekend. He's now starting to reach for the toys hanging on his chair, his hand has found his mouth and he's talking (baby noises of course) all the time now. He's such a wonderful baby...if only we could get the breastfeeding back on track.
Dan's Girl ~ I read your post and thought it sounded exactly like us about three weeks ago. I couldn't put Ethan down to sleep during the day (although he did still sleep well at night) There were two things I noticed...one was that when he gets overtired, he WILL NOT sleep. I am now looking for the signals that he's tired. He yawns, rubs his eyes, rubs his nose in the blanket or our shoulder, whimpers a little...all those tell me that he's tired. So I put him to bed.
The other thing we did was GO BACK to the swaddle. I thought he absolutely hated it (doesn't like his hands being bound ever) but it's really helped. Ethan fights me on it everytime I try to bundle him up, but at least now when he falls asleep, he's not waking himself up. He did the jerking awake or hitting himself with his hands and waking after 20 minutes or so. Now, with the swaddle, he will sleep between an hour and 2.5 hours in his crib during the day. It's wonderful. And he's now too big for the receiving blankets, so we went to the Swaddle Me and it's worked out perfect. Just my two cents!
Gaffy ~ Adorable pictures...look at the cheeks on Micah. I haven't been able to get a good sleeping picture yet, but yours is great and inspired me to keep trying.
Kaelyns Mom ~ Welcome to the group. We are definitely much more quiet than we used to be, but it's still a great resource of information and support.
Maryanne ~ Love the picture of you and Melody...I think you look great too.
Mystikal ~ I can sympathize with you on the DH and being inexperienced. It seems that my DH defers to me on everything and is pretty nervous about most things (althou
