Jbenny, Sorry to hear about the sleep problems. If it makes you feel any better, I am up all night long too :rolleyes: Maybe when DS is ready for college I will finally get some sleep again.

On another note, I have been wanting a new diaper bag but have not wanted to spend a lot of $$ on one. I was at Old Navy today and found a messenger bag ("Women's Slouchy Messenger Bag") that works perfectly as a diaper bag! Seriously ladies.... if your looking for another diaper bag, this is perfect and very inexpensive
($19.50). It only has one pocket on the inside (w/ a zipper), but it has two in the front, plus one on each size. The side pockets are perfect for bottles. I am so happy with my purchase.... just wanted to share in case anyone else was in the market for a new bag.

Here it is:

I hope everyone is having a good day. :D

jbenny sorry about the sleep issues. we're suffering too. javan was sleeping through the night, regressed, went back to sleeping through and is back to waking at least once or twice. ugh.

maryanne what a cute pic!

steviem you've tempted me with that bag ... i can hear dh asking why i would need another!!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Javan turned 9mths yday and we had his WBV this morning. he is:
18lbs 13oz (25%)
just shy of 30inches (85%)
i was surprised he has only gained 1lb since his 6mth check but overall he is doing great so no cause for concern. his doc said we can start giving him table foods whenever we're ready so that should be fun.
hope everyone is doing great:)
9 month update :-)
Peyton is doing well, sleeping thru the night, eating jarred food 3 times per day, getting in his first top tooth, crawling(a bit) and pulling up on everything!
I have video of him crawling yesterday for the first time but cant get it online until the weekend.
He waves bye bye and says mama and dada regularly. He is super attached to daddy right now and only wants him in the middle of the night which is great for me. :)
His WBV went great, no shots.Here are his stats:
W: 24 lbs 6oz (90%)
H: 28 inches (50%)
Head: 48cm (fathead...lol)
So we have a BIG boy, but a healthy one.
I love seeing everyones pics and hearing how our little ones are doing. It still amazes me everyday the time that has passed.
QOTD: When are you wanting to start TTC for another baby?
We were going to try this fall so they would be just 2 years apart, but honestly i cant imagine getting pregnant in 6 months. I want to lose this weight and get things going smoother and easier financially before we get another baby on board. We figured if we wait until fall of next year(2008) then if it happens right away they would be 3 years apart. We dont want them farther than that apart, so for now thats the plan.
HOWEVER, i find myself craving another baby. I 100% think its because i want a baby to hold and snuggle now that Peyton is getting closer to being a toddler and doing all kinds of big kid things, but i see preggo women and inside i sigh and ache a little. :::SIGH:::
Ok, gotta run its past my bedtime. LOL
Hugs from me and Peyton!
That is a recent pic of my kids
Bailey is almost crawling - she is starting to get her knees below her - she has been looking like the is swimming for about a wk & 1/2 - she does scoot or rolls to where she wants to go. she is sleeping thru the night, eating jarred food 2-3 times per day, has 8 teeth, claps her hands, waves, says hi, bye,momma,dada, buba. Loves DORA !!!!
last drs visit was a sick visit due to the GI Virus (Yucky) she weighed 20 lbs - dont know her length.
We had the 9-month WBV yesterday.
Annabelle is 28.5 in (75%) and 17lbs 6oz (25%). Head is 44 cm (50%) Everything is looking great.
In the doc waiting room DH got her to stand on her feet unsupported for at least 10 sec. I think she is very close to starting to walk. She is now back to standing a lot. (She went through a not very active period while she was sick a few weeks back.) She's been so lively for the past couple of days.
She slept really well last night (this hasn't happened in a long time). I'm not sure if we should attribute it to the HepB vaccine she received yesterday. She normally wakes up in the middle of the night and will not return to sleep unless she gets a bottle of formula. I got her to fall back asleep at 3am without eating and she didn't wake up until 5:30 am. Keeping fingers crossed that it's not a fluke!
She wants to try everything that we eat. She doesn't seem ready for stage 3 foods yet. She'll gag or spit out anything too chunky in a puree. She loves puffs or cheerios though.
She now gets a little moody and doesn't always want the same people. Somedays she won't let certain people hold her and just wants mommy and other days she'll go to anyone.
TTC-The plan is to wait til H is two and then try for our second and last one. I'm aching for little a little baby right now too.
TTC – I would love 2 under 2, but it took us 8 months after seeing an RE to get pregnant. We would also like to have our finances in order since I don’t think we could manage 2 in daycare right now. We have a goal to get DH a new job. He is way under paid.
DS’s 9months WBV is on Monday. I already know that he is less than 5% for weight and length. Length for weight he is 50%. He is a true shortie. He is growing so we are not worried
Can't believe it's time for 9 month WBV's! Julia's isn't until the 28th, but we took her for a sick visit on Sunday (I love that my ped is open 7 days a week) and she was 20.2 lbs.
Anyway, just wanted to pop on and say I hope I didn't miss anything big and with any luck I'll be able to catch up this week.
sunshine your kids are beautiful!
Hello All :D
I'm not getting any updates :( The only way I know there are posts is if I come here to find them.
Anyway, isn't it amazing how quickly are babies are growing :( Time sure does fly by so quickly :(
I just wanted to drop in really quickly and comment on something...
I would love 2 under 2, but it took us 8 months after seeing an RE to get pregnant
It took me a while to get pg with Nikolas w/the help of an RE. I never thought I'd be able to get pg again w/o the help of one. Well I'm here because of Troi and we did that on our own. One of the moms in Nikolas' play group got pg w/an RE and she was just getting ready to go again and got pg by herself too.
You never know what will happen, anything is possible. We weren't trying with Troi either. Just something to keep in mind.
Well I have to run, Troi is almost done with his snack. Oh yeah, I got this for him and loves it. We put all sorts of things in it. The one I got has a cover for it so whatever he doesn't use we can store. The only down side is he bangs it on everything so we're constantly finding sticky places around the house. I need to buy more of the mesh things so I'm not always having to immediately clean it.
Take care all and stay well.
I'm crossing my fingers for some relief with our sleeping problems tonight. I thought DS was teething since he was having the same symptoms as last time, but he was more miserable this morning than I have ever seen him so we went to the ped. He has an ear infection. He may be teething,too, but we'll see. The ped said the meds could take 24-48 hours to make him feel better, but I swear he seemed SO much better after he woke up from his nap-I gave him the medicine, then he went down and when he woke up he was a different boy. So, I'm hoping it's already helped and things will go better tonight.
Ladies, I need your help.
Our babysitter (in home) put in her 2 weeks notice saturday. :( :eek: :( :eek:
Her husband got a job in another state and they are moving really soon. Dan and I are looking into other in home sitters, as well as daycares but since she has been with us since before i even had Peyton Im a little scared and confused about how to do this.
The help I need is this. Any suggestions on things to ask both types of providers, pros and cons on either type, experiences you have etc.
Im mainly nervous because peyton has a variable nap schedule and we do not CIO (im working on putting him down drowsy, but it isnt working yet) and most daycare settings have a set naptime. Also his feeding schedule is based on what time he gets up.
Also he is at a critical time of development right now, walking, teething, talking etc and this change is going to be hard on him. His seperation anxiety is bad and this will be a test for all of us.
Thanks for your help June Mommies! :)
Sorry to hear. That sucks to get such a short notice. A quick google search with [daycare question] brought some lists of questions (I know I had one when I interviewed them but it's not on my computer. :( )
Annabelle goes to an in-home daycare. To this day, I don't know how I found this place, it was a fluke with google that I found it. In comparison with the franchised daycares, they are much more flexible. We didn't CIO in the beginning and they were ok with this. To the extent that my requests are workable for them (they do have other kids to watch), they are VERY accommodating. They know that the young babies don't have the same (or any) schedule as the toddlers. They let her nap when she needs it and we work together to develop her schedule.
I suggest you ask your friends, co-workers, neighbors for referrals. You'd be surprised. Other moms are so eager to help and offer advice, you may find places you didn't know about. Good luck!
jbenny Sorry to hear about the ear infection. Hope it resolves quickly. It's pretty amazing how resilient they can be. Take advantage of the extra cuddly time (it's the only plus side to a sick baby).
oh ramona, that must be frustrating. we have a *variable nap schedule* too {I love how you phrase this} and I totally understand you fears. Hopefully the perfect place will unveil itself quickly! good luck
Hi all!
It's been a while since I've been here...mainly because I'm not getting email notification!
Updates:
9 month WBV stats:
16 pounds, 11 ounces (10th%ile)
28 inches long (50th%ile)
Head circ: 45"
Kaelyn is doing very well. No crawling yet, and doc says she will walk without crawling. She loves to stand, and hates it when she is sitting down. She waves hi and bye to command, says mama, dada, tata, nana, baba. She dances to command, and open/closes hand to command. She uses pincer grasps as well. She has been STTN, although has waken up this past week once or twice during the night due to her cough/cold. No stranger anxiety as of yet, and will go to anyone who wants to hold her. She FINALLY has 2 bottom teeth, that errupted just last week on her 9 month birthday!
I took her today for blood tests..hemoglobin and food allergy test. The phlebotomist poked twice before she did a finger stick. I almost wanted to step in and do it since I'm a pediatric nurse and do lab draws all the time. Luckily, Kaelyn was being cooperative!
TTC: we are going to try again this May when we go for our 2nd year wedding anniversary trip to maui! We'll keep our fingers crossed even though I got pg. with kaelyn with our first try!
9 month photo and growing out of her car seat!
ramona Oh, that sucks! I wish I could watch him for you. I can imagine it's a very nerve-wracking decision to make, let alone having only two weeks. Good luck!
DS is doing SO much better since the ear infection was diagnosed. He is still a tad bit of a crankypants and drooling like CRAZY, so I think he might also be getting teeth.
In the past two days, he's all about standing up on his own. He likes to lift up his toys and stand up with them. I would think that would make balancing harder, but I don't know, it seems to help him. He has stood up and started clapping once or twice and that is SO cute. He is also walking behind his push-behind walker. That amazes me and I love watching him do it. I finally got him to eat something really solid: he loves zwieback toast and teething biscuits. He is feeding himself those, but doesn't have a pincer grasp yet. I sometimes throw a towel or blanket or something over his head and play peek-a-boo with him. He has begun to pull things over his head to play peek-a-boo with me. I absolutely love the feeling you get the first time your baby does something like that!
I'm trying not to worry about it, as we have discussed before all kids develop at a different rate.....but:rolleyes: DS started clapping awhile ago, but stopped. He will do it once in a great while. Now he's sort of just waving his hands in the air like a crazy person, which is sign language for YAY, but I don't know where the clapping went. He is also not waving consistently-he has done it, but very, very little. One of my friends visited us with her DS, who is actually younger than my DS and he was dancing, clapping, and waving the whole time he was here. DS is very interactive, but I'm wondering why he isn't doing this stuff yet. Patience, Mom, patience.:rolleyes:
jbenny- melody does the same thing. we get moments of *brillance* too (teeheeheheee) and then melody either forgets or stores the knowledge that she can do it away and doesn't do it again for months.
Ramona: I'm so sorry about your situation. I am sure it will all work out.
Jbenny: Glad to hear your DS's ear infection is on the mend. My DS has had 2 since January :o This last one didn't go away after one round of antibiotics, so we are now trying a different antibiotic. I hope it works.
I am feeling like DS is way behind everyone else :( Although we practice clapping and waving "hi" and "bye," he is not doing it yet. He stares at us really intently and opens his fingers wide and stares at his hands, but that's it. He did wave "hi" once, but I think it was a fluke.
Still not crawling, although he manages to get around quite well. He was pulling himself up on his crib to sit on his knees, but that has stopped since we lowered the mattress. He isn't pulling himself up on anything else (couch, tables, etc.) I think I need to get some more of his toys out (that I put in the garage at Christmas because there was way too much stuff!) He got the Leap Frong Table. Maybe that will encourage him to want to pull himself up?
He also isn't saying any words yet, even though we practice. He does make all sorts of sounds and "talks" frequently- just not any words we recognize.
We are trying to teach him "nose" and we say "Owen, where's mama's nose?' On a few occassions he has grabbed my nose, but again, I'm not sure if it was intentional, or just a fluke.
He is, however, eating finger foods really well. I have weaned him completely off pureed foods. He still eats rice cereal or oatmeal for breakfast with fresh fruit, but for lunch, snack and dinner, it's all "real people" food. The kid likes to eat.... what can I say? ;)
I hope everyone has a wonderful week.
steviem I would definitely give the Leap Frog table a try. We have it and DS is obsessed with it. At first, I just put it on the floor without the legs for him to play with and when he started pulling up, I put the legs on. It enticed him to pull up. He is at that thing all the time.
My DS is also not saying any words, though he is finally babbling.
gina73
03-13-2007, 11:40 AM
steviem - ditto to what jbenny mentioned about the Leap Frog Table. DS is obsessed with it too and will dart across the room to play with it. He loves to pull up on to his knees with that thing. And if we stand him up against it, he would play with it for an hour if we let him. He's also using it to pick up his feet, so it might help him learn to cruise too.
We have the chicco play table. Annabelle has been playing with it since Xmas. She will go to it everyday to play. She never seems bored to play with it. It has definitely been an incentive for her to kneel and stand.
http://www.dropshots.com/photos/207410/20070304/160706.jpg
words She is definitely not saying any words either. She babbles sometimes. I think she is starting to try to copy. We have a toy that makes animal sounds and she likes the sheep and will make baa sounds sometimes when she hears it.
clapping/waving Similar to pp, she seems to forget. She was doing it really well for a couple of weeks and now it's hard to make her do it on command. She will copy if we do it though.
jay&erinn
03-14-2007, 07:59 PM
Just wanted to comment- it's not uncommon for babies to "forget" how to do a skill as they are aquiring new ones. The next thing you know the forgotten skill shows back up and so does another new one. Try not to stress too much.
words: Not even close. Mia didn't have any words at one and only had about 10 words around 20 months. Next thing you knew, she was talking in short sentences by 22 months. All kids develop at their own pace, so I'm not worried at this point.
foods: We're still making our way through stage one and two and some threes (only fruits and veggies). We get to try rice cereal again at the end of the month and I'm hoping that goes well. I'm not sure what the next step is if all of the diahhrea and blood come back. I'm also hoping the rice, barley and oats go well so I can start eating some different foods again.
sleep: Still getting up every 1-3 hours. We'll be sleep training to some degree starting after Easter. I hope it's not too horrible, but I really need some sleep.
Ayla's crawling (though she drags one leg and ends up a little crooked), pulling up on everything and cruising. She's trashed Mia's train table more than once and Mia's not so sure she likes having a little sister quite as much now;) .
Not much else going on- we're still fighting thrush and a horrible diaper rash caused by it. We're treated both at the same time, and hopefully it's be better in a week or so.
It was a BIG DAY around our house today :D
Owen clapped his hands!!! As I mentioned in a few posts back, I was getting concerned that he was behind other babies similar in age. We had been practicing clapping for a while now, but nothing. Then today, I took him for a walk and I stopped the stroller to see what he was doing and he was clapping his hands. I got so excited- I think I scared him :p
He's done it several more times today..... yeah!!
I also got the Leap Frong Learning Table out (thanks JBenny and Gina for your suggestion) and it has really helped. He has managed to pull himself up a few times (with assistance- I have to hold the table down so he doesn't pull it over when he tries to pull up.)
So.... I hope we are on a new wave of learning and development. It's so exciting :)
Shaq he looks so grown up! :D
steviem DD just started clapping this week, too! It's so cute.
DD at 8.5 months
She claps, she waves hi and bye, she gives kisses (all the time!) Her favorite toys are her wooden blocks and mommy's hair. She jabbers and "says" mama, dada, nana, yaya, and rahrah. She refuses to roll over (every time she starts to she gets this terrified look on her face and flings herself onto her back. It's actually quite comical.) She's not near crawling but she loves to climb all over me and DH and she likes to "walk" everywhere while holding our hands. She constantly steps on her own feet, though, and takes small steps, so it's hard to get from one room to another.
Anyway, wanted to share a couple pictures of my big girl:
thanks girls! i think the fact that he's had so many (7 to be exact!) haircuts makes him look more grown up! they just grow up too fast and i'm doing my best to enjoy every single moment. i would love for him to stay this little for a LONG while. i dont know about you guys but i get sad now that i cant buy say 3-6mth clothes and have to move into the 12mth section. he's not going to be considered newborn in 3mths :( oh well.
mystikal she's beautiful! i love that 2nd pic. she looks so petite:)
QOTD Mommy Guilt...how do you deal with it?
so i've been going to the gym more regularly and i've been using the nursery there and i hate that when i am working out i feel like i should be would javan. i feel really guilty leaving him in there but at the same time i really enjoy working out. if he's sleeping i dont feel this way at all. but when he's awake i just feel like i should be playing with him.
gina73
mystikal - my goodness, she's adorable! LOVE the patent-leather mary janes too!
Mommy guilt - The first few times I took DS with me to the gym and put him in the kids camp, I felt really anxious and guilty and spent my entire workout listening for my name over the intercom. But every time I went to pick him up, he was always surrounded by other kids and loving every minute of it. Seeing how good it was for him to be around other babies and be more social helped me to not feel guilty. Heck, now he barely even notices when I arrive to pick him up - he's having so much fun it's hard to pull him out of there! While I do feel that strong urge to be near him and play with him every second he's awake, I also feel that he's at the age where he needs his own private play time as well. I think it's good for him to be able to figure out how to play on his own (with me nearby and watching), and I think he rather enjoys being in control of his playtime at times. And it's fun for me to watch him develop.
QOTD What kind of diapers are you using for overnight?
We've been using Luvs forever now and they've started leaking at night. Still fine during the day, though. I tried going up a size, but the Luvs still leaked. I tried Huggies Overnights in his regular size and a size up-they both leaked.
I never even thought about trying overnight diapers. In my case, as long as regular diapers are not leaking he doesn't need them right?
Nope, I only tried them b/c we were having leaks overnight.
Now my LUVS are leaking during the day, too. I took DS to the ped today b/c I was suspicious that his ear infection was hanging around (it wasn't). I was holding him on my hip in the exam room waiting for the dr. when I felt this rush of warmness. I didn't feel the wetness at first and I just thought I was feeling him pee through his diaper, but then I realized it was a little too warm. I pulled him away and he had peed on me! Of course, I had left the diaper bag in the car!:rolleyes:
Got a pack of Cruisers to try.
steviem
03-19-2007, 07:30 PM
Diapers: We are still using the regular Huggies diapers (size 3) for day and night.
I thought the overnight diapers were for toddlers, learning to potty train. Show's how much I know ;)
Last week was huge for Owen. I mentioned that he clapped. By the end of the week he was waving "hi" and pointing to my nose when I asked "where's my nose?" It was amazing!!
He also STTN for 2 nights, back to back. On the 3rd night, he only woke once :eek: This was a miracle for us since he never, ever STTN. But now, he is back to waking at least 3-4 times..... oh what fun :rolleyes:
The babies are all so cute and I can't believe how big they are getting. We go for our 9 month WBV next week. Where has the time gone???
Pink_Converse
03-19-2007, 10:04 PM
We've always used Pampers New Baby and now Cruisers and we have never really had a problem with leaks. We've only used Huggies that we've gotten as gifts and had a few leaks with them in size 2.
amurphy
03-20-2007, 08:07 AM
Gosh, I haven't posted in a long time! I've been reading along though and all the babies are so cute and growing up so quickly!
There is no way I'll catch up on all the discussions I've missed, so I'll just chime in on the diaper question just posted. DS has worn Pampers from the start. He did have a couple of Huggies samples but he leaked right through them! I guess he has a Pampers shaped buttom. He is now in Size 3s.
DS is still not crawling. He gets up on his hands and knees, rocks, and then lunges. He is scooting and rolling to get to his desired location. He can also walk holding on to his walker. It takes him a while since he is still cautious, but he can walk across the living room while pushing the walker in front of him. So, maybe he'll just skip crawling.
He is a big clapper and when we try to get him to wave, 90% of the time he claps. On occassion, he does wave but it is rare. He definitely has "mama" down and uses it to get his way. The funny thing is that he doesn't whine for "mama" when he and DH are home alone on Fridays, but he does shout it when he knows I'm somewhere in the house but out of reach.
He STTN 5 out of 7 nights on a typical week. However, he is getting two more teeth (his fifth and sixth!) and is a bit more cranky in the night when he does wake up.
One more thing, I had my first real nursing "injury" last week. Declan bit my nipple so hard and when I screamed; it scared him and he bit down harder. Oh my gosh! It was horrible and hurt for days when he latched on. A few people said, "That's a sign that it is time to wean." It is tempting but I'm still aiming for a year until we wean to only morning and night nursing.
That's the update!
Hello All!!
I can not say it enough, WE HAVE THE CUTEST BABIES ON THE WEB!!
Troi's still not clapping too much or even waving yet, but he does love a good game of peek a boo. And there may have been a momma said last week, but it also may have been me wanting to hear a momma too :D
Diapers: Pampers. At first it was the Especially for baby from BRU, but he would soak those, so I went to Pampers Baby Dry and those were fine. He's now in Cruisers size 4 and we've never had a leak.
So my little man is 10 months old today. I can't believe in 2 months he'll be a year old already. Where has the time gone :confused:
The past few days have been exciting/depressing around here. Troi did a lot of growing too...
On Friday, Nikolas was crying and Troi went over to him and gave him a kiss. It was the sweetest thing. Then I got a kiss on St. Patrick's day from him.
Yesterday I had to go to the bathroom and left Troi in his exersaucer. I'm not in there 2 minutes and I hear Nikolas come running down the hall, and then I hear Troi crawling down the hall :eek: I asked Nikolas if he took him out and he kept saying no. So I put Troi back in and he climed out himself. So no more exersaucer for him.
Nikolas was taking a bath tonight and Troi desperately wanted in the tub, so Brian put him in with him. Troi was loving it, splashing and playing with Nikolas, they were so cute together.
And lastly, Troi started walking today on his own. Yep, you read that correctly, he started walking on his own. He still prefers to crawl but he'll just go now like it's nothing at all.
Anyway, I have 2 video's to share. The first is of the walker that we got him a little over 3 weeks ago. When we put him in it now, he climbs out of that too. The second is of him walking for the second time. I didn't have the camera ready for the first but I had it at the ready for the second, and everyone after :)
Well I have to run, Troi is still getting up twice a night to nurse. Take care all and give those babies kisses from us.
DiapersWe only use Pampers Cruisers. We tried Huggies thinking the different shape would be better when he is crawling and moving alot but they leaked and gave him the worst rash, we think it was the way they clung to him when wet instead of having the netting like the Pampers. He is in size 4 already and they are getting snug.:rolleyes:
Lorraine~ Troi is so advanced! My DH watched the video and was like "that kid must be older than Peyton" Nope! He was so surprised.:)
~Peyton started standing on his own last night. He will pull up on something then let go, wobble then balance. Once he gets secure she starts laughing and clapping and down he goes. Its very cute.
Also he has been sleeping horribly the last few nights. He was STTN but about a week ago he started this thing where he wakes up hysterical and we have to hold him and shh him for awhile before he calms down enough to go back to sleep. He does it every 2 hours or so. We cant tell if its night terrors (early?) or his teeth or what, but its hard after he has been STTN for several months now.
I have officially placed myself in the "BAD MOMMY" club. Last weekend I was chaning Peyton and DH came into the room to show me something. I turned around but put my hand on peyton before i did. Well I "thought" I did but apparently my hand wasnt where i meant it to go because I hear a really loud THUD and think peyton has thrown the wipes container again. I turned around and he is gone. Im like WTF? Then i look down and he is laying on the floor, on his back, his face in this purple/red silent open mouthed scream with his legs and arms curled against him. I LOST IT! I was so freaked out that I had let him fall that far. OMG i was so hysterical. I picked him up and he was physically ok but still unconsoleable. DH took him and checked him over and he was fine and finally calmed down and refused to go to me the rest of the day. I cried in my room for a long time and have felt bad everyday since. I know it happens and he will get hurt in the future, but this was my fault. I had gone almost 10 months without dropping him, letting him fall on my watch.Ugh! Needless to say I dont let myself get distracted anymore. :( ::sigh::
Now we are wondering if his fall has anything to do with how bad he is sleeping. If it doesnt get better by the weekend we are taking him to the dr.
Ok, back to work. Now that I feel bad about it all over again.
Have a great day ladies
hi guys! it's been a while since I've posted but I still follow along.
I had to come in though becauce I had a similar experience with dropping Mallory as you did Dan'sGirl. she was sitting in her bumbo seat on the kitchen counter (yes, I know better) and I was playing with her. the phone rang and I turned around for a split second to answer it. when I turned back around, she was mid-air. fell three feet off the kitchen counter. of course I screamed and threw the phone across the kitchen to pick her up and comfort her. she only screamed for about a minute and then calmed down but I was so upset and kept replaying the image of her in the air over and over in my mind for weeks. we called the pediatrician and he reassured me that babies are made of rubber but you can bet I don't take any chances anymore. I have had bad mommy status for a while now.
quick update on Mallory- she's 9 months, is crawling, pulling up on her own and almost standing on her own. I think she'll be walking soon. we're having a blast and I am loving every minute. she's a great sleeper, a great eater and doesn't even mind getting her shots too much. we just went to the doctor yesterday and she's up to 17lbs. she went from the 10th percentile to the 25% in weight and up to the 75% in height. tall and skinny- I'll take that!
anyone thinking about number 2 yet? If I would ever get AF back we would start trying right away. I'm no spring chicken and definitely want two babies before too much longer. speaking of AF. . anyone not seen her yet? I am still nursing but it seems like she should have been back by now.
I hope everyone is doing well. I love the pictures. we sure have a beautiful group of kiddos here!
It's thrilling to hear about those first milestones from everyone, whenever they happen! Our new one this week is feeding mommy. I've been trying ever since she has the pincer grasp. She finally did it. I open my mouth wide while she's feeding herself and bring it close enough within her reach. She is also now sharing her binky with me but trying to put it in my mouth (still missing all the time though).
Bad mommy It happened to us as well... mostly my fault. DD usually ends up in bed with us in the middle of the night through morning. I am the first one to wake up. She was usually asleep with DH while I get ready (shower/breakfast). One morning she woke up while DH was sound asleep. She crawled off the bed. I heard a thump from downstairs and ran up to DD and DH histerical. She was fine in a minute but it scared us. Now every morning when I get up, I wake up DH and he makes sure to hold her or watch her.
AF I stopped BF about 1 month ago. I have not had AF return yet. I should mention that I have PCO and even pre-pregnancy I barely had AF. So I don't know what that means. I must say though that within two weeks of stopping BF, I've started to cramp again. I always thought that this pain was stress related... and i hadn't noticed that it was gone until it came back. So maybe I have issues to discuss with my Gyn.
diapers
We've been using Huggies for a while. I prefer the supreme, but the basic works fine now. We're on size 3. She had a yeast diaper rash since the ear infection antibiotics. We've had trouble getting rid of it but I think we finally managed. It seemed to be worse in the areas where most of the pee collects in the diaper (high up front because she sleeps on her belly with her legs curled under/next to her). I didn't try a different diaper. When I asked the pediatrician she said it wouldn't make a difference.
In case anyone cares... what finally broke the rash was Triple Paste. The prescription cream helped reduce the yeast rash but even after 2 weeks it wasn't gone. The Triple Paste was suggested by my sister. It's the only way she is able to manage rashes on her daughter. I got it at Target.
so good to hear from everyone! our thread has been quiet for a while :p
lorraine - wow! troi is wasting no time with everything! that was so neat to watch!
i can join the BAD MUMMY club too!!! Javan has fallen off the bed not once but TWICE! he also pulls at the kitchen cabinets to stand up and will put them out and try to slam it shut, losing his balance and thus falls pretty hard. it breaks my heart but i figure its one way to let him explore and learn. the getting hurt part i dont like though.
still no clapping here - he waves when we clap :cool: his friend who is 2wks older is all about clapping and is now trying to blow kisses. its pretty cute!
I'll join the bad mommy club too. I was getting dressed while DS played on my bed. I looked up at one point and saw that he crawled/lunged his way to the edge of the bed. I picked him up, told him to be careful, and set him back down in the middle of the bed. I turned back toward my dresser, heard a thud, and turned around to see him on his back on the floor. He did initially manage to keep his head up by bracing his arms behind him, but his head fell back a second or two after he landed on the floor. He seemed more scared than hurt, but I felt HORRIBLE.
AF: Still nursing and no sign of AF. It makes me a little uneasy, but I've done some "internet research" and found that it isn't uncommon for AF to stay away the entire time you nurse. So, I'm trying not to worry about it.
Another baby: I'm thinking about it . . . but just in terms of when we should start TTCing. I love being close in age to my brother (just under two years apart), which is why a second baby is already on my mind. But, I worry about not enjoying and focusing on Declan for the next couple of years. I asked my brother about this dilemma since he has three children who are all close in age, and in response to me saying that I worry about not having time to truely focus on Declan, he said, "You manage to focus on and love them equally." So, with that said, I think we will start TTCing Spring '08.
Hey ladies!
Almost Friday...
AF: I stopped nursing Emily when she was 6 months (because of me going back to work and the long commute) and I got AF almost 2 months later... I must say AF was never perdictable in the first place.. so I may not be a good example... one thing no one told me about though was when AF did return SHE CAME BACK WITH A VENGEANCE... (TMI) but EXTREMELY HEAVEY/CRAMPS and I was miserable...
Bad Mommy: Oh yes.. she rolled off the bed a few months ago.. and there have been a few times I am walking with her and and I cut the corner too short in in our hallway and she hits her head... :(
Growing so fast... So scary to me... Emily stands on her own, claps, waves, does peak a boo, how big is Emily, and she understands when I say "no"... BUT SHE STILL IS NOT SIGNING... so frustrating.. but I think she knows what they mean just does not do it...
Another Baby: So funny this topic is on here today... last night Emmy was sitting on my lap and I said "does emmy want a brother or sister" (meanwhile DH is saying no) and Emmy looks at Joe and she shook her head "no".. She obvisouly has no idea what I was saying but the timing was perfect.. LOL...I am with you Amurphy when Emily is nearing 2 we will start trying...
Shaq: Too cute! That pic is great :)
Big news: Owen crawled yesterday. He has been getting around for quite some time, but not officially crawling. Yesterday (and today), he did an actual crawl. It's amazing..... he's done so much in these past 2 weeks.
Bad Mommy: Luckily, DS hasn't fallen off a bed, couch, changing table, but, he has knocked his head pretty hard when I'm not paying enough attention :o Now that he can pull himself up on things, he seems to be falling a lot more... poor guy. He pulled his Leap Frog Table right on top of himself today when I wasn't watching, and hit his head pretty hard on our wood floors...... bad mom!
AF: Count yourself lucky if AF has not returned!! Mine came back 7 wks PP and I was nursing (and still am). I feel like a teenager again..... bad cramps and super heavy. Ick!!
TTC #2: This has been weighing on my mind heavily...... I definitely want more than 1 child, but, I feel like I will be "cheating" DS out of all of my love and attention. I realize that is silly but I can't help feeling that way. I am 34 so I don't want to wait too long. Our plan is to start TTC'ing in the Fall. If everything goes according to plan, Owen will be just over 2 yrs when DC#2 is born. I can't even believe I am talking about #2.... so scary!! I feel like I was just pg with #1 :eek: (If I was younger, I would definitely wait longer..... maybe until Owen was 3 before trying for #2.)
Hello All :D
I don't think Troi is advanced, he's just a really good copycat :p He literally tries to do every single thing Nikolas does, and this has started to include climbing onto EVERYTHING. He is definately walking though, it wasn't just a fluke, he's all over the house now. Nikolas isn't too happy about that cause now Troi chases him and he doesn't like that. At some point in the day I hear, "mommy, tell Troi to stop walking after me". It's too cute :) Troi also likes to walk over to the TV with his hands up in the air yelling at it, especially when Sesame Street is on, he loves that show.
AF: Went 16 months w/o seeing her and now she's back and it always hurts. The dr said the non-hormonal IUD would do that. After I'm done nursing I can get the one w/hormones to ease them and I'm thinking about that.
Another Child: I still want to have one more, try for a girl. Brian is 99.9% sure he wants to adopt. I still have .01% to get pg, there is still hope ;)
Bad Mommy: Oh yeah. I was exhausted one morning and I had Troi in bed with me. We were both asleep and I didn't have my arm on him. Well next thing you know, I hear a loud thud and he starts screaming. Yep, crawled to the end of the bed and fell off. Needless to say I was wide awake at that moment. And I too have clipped a couple of corners, walls with his head :o The other is Nikolas will leave his sippy cups laying on the floor, I won't see them until Troi is drinking from it, and it's usually either milk or juice :o
Well I have to run, Nikolas is done w/breakfast. Take care all and have a good weekend.
I feel so goofy coming in here when DD is nearly nine months old to announce that SHE FINALLY ROLLED OVER!!!!! Yes, that's right. She rolled over on her own tonight for the first time ever! lol. I told DH we're in trouble now because before we know it she'll start crawling and walking. I'm 99% sure she'll be walking before she's a year old. She's trying so hard now. :D
TTC again DH and I were just talking about this. I have some major issues with my L&D with DD and I feel kind of cheated out of the whole experience. I had a c-section and had a bad reaction to the drugs. I don't remember the first time I held her. I didn't get the whole "show her off" moment. I don't even remember making phone calls the next morning. I can't watch a tv show or movie where someone is giving birth because it bothers me too much. Right now that is pretty much my only issue with having another one. DH told me the other night that he was ready now. Of course, we need to be out of this house before having another one. This house is just way too small. We'll probably start TTC sometime between summer 2008 and 2009. I do miss being pg.
Mystikal Yay!:)
Did anyone do rice cereal in the bottle to get their baby to STTN? I followed the advice that I read many different places that you shouldn't do it, but I'm getting to the point that I'm willing to try it. After 9 months with maybe one or two nights of uninterrupted sleep, I'm exhausted all.the.time. Did you do it? Did it work? How did you mix it?
DS was up all night long for a little while and now has gotten "better":rolleyes: and is only getting up 2-3 times a night.
JBenny: Uh... that would be a big fat No!!! He is back to his usual of waking up several times per night. However, last night he went down at 8pm, and only woke up at 11pm and 4am. (How sad that this is considered a good night :rolleyes: .) Both times I just went into his room and "shushed" him and put the pacifier back in his mouth. I am trying not to nurse him but sometimes, if I can't get him back to sleep, I give in.
Although he is still a terrible sleeper, I have found that the time change a few weeks back has helped a bit. He used to go to bed at 6:30pm but now he is staying up until 7:30-8:00pm. I am thinking this may be helping.....
I wish I had some great suggestions for you but we are struggling with sleep as well. Try and get some rest today.... I know it's tough.
jbenny, We did not do rice cereal in the bottle because of the choking hazzard. But we have given cereal/oatmeal to eat before bed and it has not had any affect on his sleep. Is DS eating solids? I would suggest it on a spoon WAY before in a bottle, but that's my opinion.
Lucas is changing so much every day! He has 4 teeth and 2 more have popped through but are hard to see. He is still nursing, he crawls EVERYWHERE, pulls up on everything, walks around furniture and even lets go and stands by himself for 3-4 seconds. Walking is right around the corner, methinks! :eek: We have not given him any actual table food yet, but he has had puffs and Cheerios. Once in a while he still gags on them so I'm leary to try table food, but I know he's ready because he chomps on his purees. :p It's really funny! He does it all day long, eating or not. So I just have to suck it up and try it.
He is still STTN for the most part but between his teeth and a minor cold, he's been sleeping like crap the past few days. It sucks.
Glad to hear things are going well for everyone! I can't believe we are approaching the 1 year mark!!! :eek: :eek: Guess that means time for a new thread soon! :o
I was also afraid of the choking hazard and I also read that it messes up a baby's sense of when they are full. I'm just desperate for him to STTN, so I'm ready to try anything. I feel like some sort of failure after reading the Healthy Sleep, Happy Child thread and there are 4-6 month olds STTN in there! After doing some reading there, I'm thinking another thing to try might be to stop doing feedings and just give him his paci when he wakes up. I just have a hard time imagining him not eating for 12 full hours. Even though I want to get some sleep, it just doesn't seem right to me or maybe it just seems impossible given our current situation. I have people telling me to feed him and he'll STTN when he's ready and others telling me to let him CIO (which I won't do) and others telling me to just give him his paci. Why don't babies come with manuals? :)
I'm so sorry that some of the Moms are still struggling with multiple night wakings. Declan STTN (7:30-6:30) five nights out of seven. The other two nights, he'll wake around 4 and get himself really worked up so I nurse him and bring him into bed with us. I'm sure I already posted this info, but he always wakes up around 10 and 4:30 and cries for a minute or two before falling back to sleep. It is hard to listen to him cry for that minute though. :(
For a baby who doesn't crawl, DS sure gets around the house! He is crawling/pushing himself backward all the time. He has gotten stuck under furniture a few times. He started cruising on Friday. It is unreal how daring he is in only a few days. He goes all the way around the coffee table and then switches for the couch, over to the side table, and then stretches to reach the leather armchair. Daredevil!
Oh, he is waving more consistently. But he waves with both hands . . . almost like he is trying to fly away!
Hello All :D
Can't stay long, I'm working...
jbenny & steviem We can all think of each other, I'm up 2 - 3 times a night with Troi. Usually at 2, 5 and sometimes at 3:30. I just end up bringing him into bed w/us and nursing him and he sleeps with us. And then I don't sleep well because I have to make sure Brian has enough room, Troi is all over the place and I'm usually on the edge of the bed, literally.
I tried the rice cereal in the bottle, no luck. I can't let him CIO cause then he'll wake Nikolas, we haven't moved him yet into his own room. So he's up, I'm up.
So think of me, and I'll think of you too. It will get better, it has to :)
Not STTN
Annabelle is still not STTN either. She has good nights (maybe once every other week). We have successfully improved her sleeping and reduced the number of night wakings. The first thing that helped was to give her last solid feeding as close to bedtime as possible. At that feeding, we make sure that she is satiated. After 2 and sometimes 3 jars, I finish by giving her whole wheat bread.
We did try the cereal in the bottle a couple of times but it didn't seem to make a difference.
Her bedtime routine is 6pm feeding, 6:30 bath, 7pm bottle (4-6 oz) and crib. A couple months back it became harder and harder to rock her to sleep. At that time it was becoming so unbearable and Weissbluth wasn't helping so we resorted to CIO. It was hard the first few nights. But now her 7pm bedtime is very easy.
Anyway, nowadays she wakes up once per night. We've succeeded in not feeding her anymore at that time. Though we do end up bringing her into bed with us. Her crib is in our room, so after we move next week her crib will be in her own room and I plan to stop bringing her into bed.
walking
She's still practicing cruising on everything. I noticed last week that her legs are so much stronger now when I make her swim in the tub (like a push start). She will sometimes forget that she needs to hang on and start clapping while standing. She can hold up for a little bit when she wants to.
The daycare teacher said that even at the point where she is, it could still be a couple of months before she walks. I guess she has enough experience to know. But I've been thinking for a couple weeks now that it will be anyday.
Happy Monday!!!
Hello all :D
Another quick reply...
So yesterday I post that Troi isn't sleeping through the night. Well Brian is sick so he slept on the futon to not get me sick and not have to deal with Troi in bed last night. Troi was miserable all day yesterday. No matter what we did for him, he cried.
So we put him down around 9:30 and he slept until 7 this morning. I know it was just a fluke but it felt nice to sleep the whole night. I think this is the maybe 9th or 10th time since he was born :rolleyes:
It also figures that last night I didn't get to sleep until 1 though, so it really doesn't count for me :rolleyes:
Yay! We've got a little club going!:D
Hi ladies,
Babylust: what a cutie :) I love his hat.
Here are some recent pics of the little man. Notice he is standing up in one of them.... he gets so proud when he pulls himself up!
Oh my goodness! What little cuties! :D
I just had to come post that DD said her first words yesterday. Yesterday morning she saw a picture of my sister Hannah and she got all excited, kicking her feet and waving her arms. I said "Is that Hannah?" She smiled and said "An-ah". Then last night I set her on the bed with DH so I could change out of my work clothes and she started crying and saying "mama". It broke my heart and of course I picked her up right away, but it's still so exciting! :D I can't believe how fast she's growing...
Yeah, wishful thinking :D
I knew it was a fluke, Troi was up at 2 last night. I put him in bed to nurse and was too tired to get back up. I then started having pain in my hip so I tried to put him back in the crib and he would wake every time. So needless to say, he slept with us last night, again.
So that one night break was pretty nice, but now I'm back to reality :)
Jbenny, Niko, Smurf: Fingers crossed that the kiddos cooperate tonight and we all get some rest!! Ha....who am I kidding?
You sure are kidding!! I had the same kind of night as Lorraine. Couldn't put him down, up for like 2 hours, and he still got up for two feedings besides that. I tried just giving the paci night before last, then I remembered why I don't do that. He's just up again a half an hour later. That's why I always just feed him right off the bat. What's making this harder is that DH is really on my case about it. His big solution is to just turn off the baby monitor. I was like- are you freaking kidding me? Do you have a soul? DS has always had someone come to him, and all of sudden we're just going to ignore him for an entire night? NO WAY. DH being on my case is also bugging me, b/c it seems like he can barely handle taking care of him for a couple of hours. There's always a problem. I have my theory that he does it on purpose so that I don't bother asking him to take care of DS. I don't mean to make him sound like a bad daddy-he's really not-he's attentive and loves to play with DS, but just isn't comfortable feeding him, bathing him or putting him to sleep.:rolleyes: He just likes the fun stuff. But anyway, it seems like he can barely handle it for a few hours, while I take care of DS 24/7- but he's telling me what I should do and what I'm doing wrong. It ticks me off. Well, I'm done rambling and venting. God, I need some sleep.:(
P.S. babylust and steviem Cute, cute, cute pics!!!
They are all such cuties!!! So many boys!
Well I must have jinxed myself yesterday describing the progress we made in the past several weeks! OMG what a night we had. I remember at the 6-month WBV the ped said to give her solids to eat as much as she wants. She eats plenty and seems to enjoy eating food. In the past week or so, we noticed that she has significantly decreased her formula intake. She's down to about 12-15 oz per day. Last night she wouldn't take any formula before bed and she had only had about 4 oz during the day. She went to bed ok. But woke up around 10pm and we couldn't get her back to sleep. Finally around 12am she took a bottle and fell asleep. She woke up again probably 3am for more. This morning she woke up at 6am and took a 6-oz bottle.
QOTD: How much solid vs formula/BM is you DC taking each day?
Annabelle eats probably 10oz of baby food and about 15oz for formula. We need to start working on that ratio. Anyone have an opinion? The books say she should be getting ~25oz of formula. Should I call the ped?
On a positive note... yesterday she seemed very interested in walking. She would stop holding on and try to take steps on her own everywhere. I think the most she made were 2 steps. I had never seen her so intent in getting places on two feet! So adorable. DH and I were all excited trying to encourage her.
STTN – yeah right. Noah is a horrible teether. The last 2 nights have been decent.
EBM/solids – at daycare Noah takes about 11-13oz of solids (depending on the day) and 8oz of EBM. He still nurses heavily at night, so I’m not worried about him not getting enough breast milk.
Today at daycare he is having:
10:00A – 4oz sweet potatoes followed by a 4oz bottle of EBM (Funny thing is, Noah would never take an 8 oz bottle of EBM)
1:00P – 4oz turkey with wild rice followed with 3.5oz green beans
3:30P – 4oz bottle of EBM
5:30P – nurse him when I pick him up.
Around 7 or so, I nurse and give some solids. He will rarely eat an entire 2.5oz jar at night. He prefers to nurse. We don’t have an evening eating routine down yet.
Food in general – I use a combo of jarred and homemade. I make and buy primarily organic for DS (Earth’s Best, Tender Harvest, Gerber Organic). I like the glass jars because I can reuse them. I actually prefer my homemade stuff, because the jar stuff is too runny esp the Earth’s Best. DS likes it thick.
Finger foods – he loves cheerios-type cereal. I tried sweet potatoes but he never got any to his mouth. He loves sweet potatoes so I think he just enjoyed smashing them in his hands.
Crawling – not yet. He pushes himself backwards and rolls a lot. He will stand up and hold on to stuff, but does not try to walk
Carseats – Who has switched? and what do you have?
We are thinking switching him to his convertible car seat in the next few wekes. He has not exceeded his infant seat limits yet, but it is getting heavy to carry. The weather is warming up so we won’t miss the convenience of it when the weather is bad. We have an Evenflow Triumph, but need another for the other car. Not sure what to get.
Annabelle has been in her convertible seat since Xmas. We have the Britax Roundabout installed rear-facing.
carseats We switched to the convertible at about four or five months of age. He was too heavy to carry in the infant seat and he looked totally smushed in it, especially when it got colder and he needed to wear a coat or his bunting. We have a Britax Decathlon in my car, which is really nice. He also has a Graco Comfortsport in his grammy's car, which is also a nice seat. It was recommended by Baby Bargains as a really good, economical carseat. There is a new edition of Baby Bargains coming out at the end of April if you can wait that long to choose a seat since it seems like there are a lot of new choices.
formula/solids intake DS eats between 12-16 ozs. of solids a day. He'll always polish off a 4 oz. jar and occasionally take two at dinner. His formula intake was way down the past few weeks, probably 16-20 ozs. a day or should I say a night, because that was the only time he'd take a bottle. The past few days, he has picked up again. He is taking daytime bottles again and is up to probably 24-32 ozs. again.
Carseats
We put Peyton in his around 5 months because he was too long and way too heavy for his pumpkin seat anymore.
We love this one...
Alpha Omega Elite~ at BRU for $139
We chose it because it goes up to 80 lbs and we didnt want to have to buy another one. It also got great ratings.
http://trus.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/pTRU1-2996706reg.jpg
I have a pic of him in it, im trying to get it downloaded.
Formula His intake has drastically cut down as well. He used to take 6 oz at every feeding, but now when he gets jarred food (3 times per day now) he MIGHT take 2 to 4 oz but no more. He does take a full 6 oz at night if its necessary and first thing in the morning, so he gets about 20-24oz per day. He was taking 30-36 per day as little as 2 weeks ago. :rolleyes:
STTN I wish he still was. He started STTN at 5 months and got up only once around 4am for 20 mins to eat. Then he went all night(830-7) for a month or so. Now he has been struggling to go to sleep by 9 and is up every 2 hours or so all night. I have chalked it up to teething but am so tired it could be anything. ugh
So ladies Im also thinking of you all when its 3am and Im in the rocker with a fussing baby. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz:p
jbenny, I am with you on the CIO. I can't do that either. I think I've asked you before but can't remember... does DS sleep on his tummy? That was s huge factor to Lucas sleeping more regularly. I hope you (and the others) can get some rest soon!!!! {{{hugs}}}
Carseat: We switched to a convertible a month or so ago. The carrier was too heavy. We got a Fisher Price, manufactured by Britax.
BM intake: Has not decreased but his feedings have spaced out a bit more since starting solids.
Ayla had her 9 month appt today. She's a peanut.
Weight: 16 lb, 4 oz
Length: 27 inches
10th percentile for both.
We actually had to go in last week since she had a diaper rash I couldn't clear up. The doc thought it was eczema. 2 days later it was all over her body. I didn't call back since we had the appt today. He thinks it might be a fairly rare viral rash (I forget the name) that takes 6-8 weeks to go away. If the steroid cream doesn't help at all by the end of the week we have to take her to Children's Hospital to see a dermatologist.
STTN: Never. The longest stretch is 2-3 hours. I'm exhausted. If I could ever get her entirely healthy I will start to sleep train.
Food: I have no idea what she takes of each. She's really not crazy about baby food so the doc advised us to try soft partially mashed table food since she still has no teeth.
Carseats: She's been in her convertible for about a month now- I think the length limit on ours was 26 inches. She's far from being too heavy for it. We have the Graco Comfort Sport from when Mia was little.
Walking: Ayla walks with help and cruises everywhere on her own. She's a little dare devil and it makes me nervous. She'll stand there and reach for something that's too far away. If she can't reach it she'll just take her chances and see how far she can walk/dive for it before she falls.
Words: I don't think Ayla has any, but she does say "MomMom" whenever she crawls after me. I still think it's just a coincidence, so we'll see.
Thanks! Yep, he does sleep on his belly. He's always in that position when I check on him. Another reason that I can't let him CIO is that when he wakes up crying, I always find him sitting up, but head down in the corner of his crib crying. It is SO sad looking. I can't imagine letting my poor little baby sit there crying like that. It's the saddest thing I can think of.
I just had to jump in and say that Jbenny--you and I must be living parallel lives! My DH also suggested that we just turn the monitor off. I don't know what his deal is, he just sleeps right through it anyway. I can't even remember the last time I left DD with him for an extended period of time. He whines every time I even leave to go to the grocery store. :rolleyes: He too is a very loving, involved daddy, but he much prefers it when mommy is around in case dd starts fussing.
DD does that too. It makes me wanna cry just thinking about it! On the plus side, we've had three nights of *decent* sleep at our house (only waking twice). Let's hope the trend continues.
smurf Maybe our DH's should get together! Mine keeps saying that he can't wait until DS can just ask for what he wants and DH doesn't have to guess. I've heard other guys say that, too, so I guess it might be a normal guy thing. I hope your good sleep run holds out!
We had an okay (knock on wood) night. I was hoping that now that he's eating more formula during the day, that might help him sleep better, so we'll see. He also took only 2 half hour naps today. I'm crossing my fingers...
Owen had is 9 month WBV today. The doc says everything looks good :) DS is in the 75% for both weight and height.
21 lbs 12 oz
29 1/4"
Some interesting things the Ped said: I told him that DS was now eating only table food (no purees) and that I still BF. He said that I could now introduce scrambled eggs and at 11 or 12 months, I could introduce milk. In all the books I've read, it said to wait until 12 months for both milk and eggs, so I thought it was interesting he said otherwise. (Our Ped has always said not to go "by the books." He said parenting is instinctual and that "those" books often times scare parents and make them worry needlessly. I read them anyway. ;) ) He usually says "as long as you love your baby, feed them, spend time with them, and don't drop them, they will be fine.)
He also said that naps are more important than ever at this stage. He said to try and get DS on a regular nap routine. We have a great morning nap routine, but afternoon naps are all over the place. He usually takes his afternoon nap in his carseat or stroller when we are running errands, but the times vary every day. I think I need to try and be more consistent. Maybe this will help with his STTN situation.
Speaking of STTN, DS is still a sucky sleeper. However, it has been improving lately. I am wondering if the fact he is now crawling has anything to do with it? I am thinking that he may be tiring himself out more during the day..... I dunno... just a thought.
Sorry to be long winded..... I hope you are all well :D
What are your daily routines like (eating and sleeping)
We are trying desperately to get Ayla on a routine with sleep. I'm so absolutely exhausted (my longest stretch of sleep has been 3 hours and I don't get even that most nights). I started tracking her sleep to hopefully see a pattern and the only consistent thing is when she goes to bed for the night and gets up in the morning. I want to put her in her crib and establish a routine, but don't know where to start. I don't want to put her in her crib when she's not tired. I'm looking for a starting point for now. She's so overtired that it getting even harder to get her to sleep. The cycle has to end soon for the sanity of my household.
DD had her 9 month WBV yesterday, as well.
Weight: 20.15 lbs
Length: 28 inches
She was 80% for weight and 75% for length.
StevieM my ped also said that we could start introducing eggs, but only the yolk. He said to wait until 12 months before we introduce the whites. He did tell us too, that at 11 months we could start introducing whole milk mixed in with her formula. 7ozs of formula per 1oz of whole milk. I'm thinking I might still wait until a year. Oh, and he said that we could give her a taste of ice cream occasionally, which DH was so happy to hear. :rolleyes:
Schedules during the week she doesn't really have one as my mom is just a go with the flow kind of person. She does take a morning nap every day and normally goes down between 8:30 and 9:30 depending on what time she wakes up. Lunch is usually around 12:30. Afternoons are HORRIBLE. My mom has to go pick up my 9 year old sister from school so once she gets home from school DD does NOT want to sleep at all. :rolleyes: Yesterday we got lucky and she took a 2 hour afternoon nap. Of course, she was up until 9:00 last night and then up at 6:30 this morning. I guess it's enough sleep, but man, she still looks pretty tired.
Hey ladies...
Emily's appt is tomorrow...
Her schedule:
~ Up around 6:30-7:00am
~ Bath her & feed her 8-8:30am; She eats cereal mixed with fruit and 8 oz bottle (sippy cup)
~ Goes down for a nap 9ish am (and even if she is not tired I still put her in her crib and leave a dolly in there for her to play with and then she will fall asleep) Depends on the day but sleeps from 1-2 hours.
~ Lunch: Veggies or dinner with 8 oz bottle (sippy cup)
~ Our afternoon schedule nap is up in the air.. but around 3ish she will go down for about 1 hour
~ Snack: Veggies (opposite what I gave her for lunch so maybe dinner).. and 8 oz sippy cup
~ 7:30: Cereal (mixed w/ whatever fruit/veggies) and 8 oz bottle.. she is down for bed by 8-8:30 like clock work. And if she is not tired (most cases she is) .. DH & I put her in the crib and she may cry for a few mins but then falls asleep..
~ Sleeping habits.. she has her moments...where she lets out this scream.. (like last night) but unless she is full blown standing and screaming we do not get out of bed....but for the most part she has been STTN for a few months now. I must say it was hard in the beginning.. but I had to let her CIO for a few weeks...and it worked for us... (now I know it is not for everyone..but for us it worked...) and I think I needed it for peace of mind.
Emily does sleep on her belly
Car Seats: We switched over in Dec. because it was too heavy and with her winter coats she did not fit.. we have the Britax Marathon. But we do take her infant seat whereever we go and if we are out late we strap her in it and give her a bottle and off she goes to sleep.
Colds: I feel like Emily is catching something.. we had the chicken pox, then the stomach bug.. and now another cold... drives me crazy..because I feel so bad for her... I started to feel guilty she was getting sick so frequently because I stopped nursing but the DR. made me feel better and told me that nursing would not have stopped the chicken pox or the stomach bug.. because they are virus's...so I did feel a wee bit better.. but still I feel like they are little germ collectors.. my poor baby....
DS is still small so we are still using his infant seat. It has it conveniences when the weather is bad, but it is getting heavy so I’m ready for the convertible seat. If the weather is decent we do take him out of the car seat anyway. I love putting him on my back with my mei tai. We went for a walk with him on my back yesterday and it was great.
I gave Noah plain yogurt last night, he seemed to like it. Sweet Potatoes are by far is favorite so I gave him yogurt, then sweet potatoes then yogurt again. I tried the yogurt and it was yucky. I thought I liked plain yogurt, but apparently I only like sweet plain yogurt. I gave him Brown Cow and I guess it is not sweetened.
DS loves to feed himself. Right now I only give him Cheerios. I tried sweet potatoes but he preferred to mash them up in his hands.
What finger foods do you give your DC?
LOVE LOVE LOVE all the pics - keep sharing!!! these babies are just too beautiful.
~~~~~~~~~~~

steviem our ped said we could go ahead with eggs so we gave it to him on saturday and he LOVED them! he had pancakes too (no syrup though!) i really like your ped's motto!

schedule Javan's days are mostly like this:

- wakes around 7am, I bfeed him
- cereal and fruit around 8:30. he usually eats some cheese as well
- bf or EBM around 9:45
- nap around 10am usually for 1.5-2hrs
- bf when he wakes
- lunch at 12:30 - has a veggie and sometimes a meat
- afternoon naps vary: if we're home he can play and go for a good few hours and usually naps for a short time but if we're out running errands he naps for about another hour or 2.
- bf or EBM (he wont take this feeding sometimes)
- he has an afternoon snack (wagon wheels, puffs or cheese)
- bf at 5:30
- dinner at 7 (past few night he's been eating what we eat and then has a fruit)
- bath time around 8pm
- bf at 9pm, we read to him and put him down by 9:30pm (any earlier and he thinks its a nap.)

we really have been doing more table foods now and he's eating a lot better. the other night he had pasta and sausage, last night he ate beef stroganoff and rice. our ped said he might do better with table foods so we're not doing purees anymore. for his snack yday i made him a sandwich and cut it up into little pieces (turkey meat, cheese and wheat bread) and he LOVED it! we usually let him feed himself - only problem is he gets so excited that he eats too fast!

car seats we havent switched yet but we're going with the Britax marathon. we dont take the seat out the car anymore unless he's asleep (one of the reasons we're so not ready to switch)

these are from his 9mth pics:

Hi everyone! I'm with shaq - I can't get enough of everyone's adorables...keep the pics and videos coming!

schedule - we're still pretty lax about food. Since Brady's still a little guy, our ped suggested we still BF often since he'll get way more calories that way. Our day looks a little like this:

6:30 - B wakes up and nurses, then plays until naptime
8:00 or so - 1st nap for anywhere from 45min-2hrs
~9:30/10 - nurse (unless I'm teaching, then gets about 4oz bottle), then gets breakfast (~3tbsp rice cereal with 40ml of BM, 2-3oz of fruit, maybe a few spoonfuls of yogurt, then puffs and cheerios)
~12:30/1 - power nurses (usually 30-45min) and conks out with a nap of 1-2hrs
~4:00 - nurses then gets dinner (~3tbsp oatmeal with 40ml of BM, 2-4oz of veggies, apple or banana in his mesh feeder and cheerios or puffs to play with)
PLAYS HARD after that until bathtime around 6:45-7
7:15/7:30ish - 6oz bottle then bed by 8pm

I'd like to introduce another meal at some point, but lunch just seems too hard, since he usually passes out when he nurses. I guess I could do it beforehand, but I'm afraid he'd be too full. And let's face it, I rely on that afternoon nap, so it's not something I'm willing to experiment with at this point. I think we might start doing a little snack right after he wakes up, since we usually give him a little of our bananas or toast anyway.

Finger foods - I think DS is ready to start self-feeding, as he constantly grabs the spoon from me. I wouldn't mind getting away from the purees either. We've done the standard crunchy stuff like puffs, cheerios, biter biscuits. Last week I gave him some silken tofu rolled in cheerio dust, which he seemed to like. We've tried bananas (which he usually just mashes in his hands), brown rice, soft green beans, soft zucchini, and tiny piece of chicken.

Here's a recent photo of our little boy at 10mo:

Niko&Troi So adorable. I've been debating the Easter picture. Are most of you getting it done? We haven't done it.

STTN We made it!!! Last night I didn't hear anything the whole night. We finally moved into our new house this weekend. The first night we had her in the pack'n play. She did not sleep well at all. Awake almost every hour. She was in bed with me for a couple of hours. I don't know if it was the move or perhaps teething. She was clinging all day long as well, and didn't seem very well.
Second night was better. She woke up crying. I went to see her, picked her up and rocked her to sleep in minutes and put her back in the crib. Last night she was out at 6:30 pm (her last nap was at 2pm). She was awake this morning around 6:30 am.
It is so awesome to finally be in our own home!!! Living with the IL's was ok, but it's much nicer having your own space obviously. And the morning commute was so nice... sigh. I'm totally happy!
And as soon as all my pots and pans are unpacked, I can start making food for Annabelle and not use jars all the time!

Adorable pictures ladies :)

Izzy: Congratulations on your new home :)

Well, Owen is a crawling machine now. He won't sit still and it is utterly exhausting! I mean, it's so fun to watch him go, but man-o-man is it tiring. I had to go to BRU to get a gate to block off our kitchen from our family room. I am contemplating a 2nd gate to block off our hallway... for now, I put his exersaucer there so he can't go down the hall. Speaking of the exersaucer, he hates it now! He used to love that thing but now that he can crawl, he hates to be confined.

Another one of his new favorite things is to throw his sippy cup across the room :rolleyes: He throws it and acts like he wants it, so I pick it up and wham.... he whirls it again. Little bratt!! It is actually quite funny but annoying at the same time :)

He had his first real "injury" this weekend :( He was sitting on the ground playing with a toy. Next thing I know, he is sprawled out on his belly, crying hysterically. I pick him up and see blood coming out of his mouth!! I freaked. He cut his lip... I think his bottom teeth hit his upper lip when he feel... poor baby. He sucked on an icecube wrapped in a washcloth and seemed okay after 10 mins or so. He had a bit of a fat lip but now that is gone. He still has a scab..... just perfect for the Easter pictures :rolleyes:

How are you ladies teaching "No" to your little ones? When he trys to reach or grab something that he shouldn't touch, I say "No" very firmly and stearnly. He looks at me, and then turns away and continues what he is doing. I say "No" again, and he looks and then laughs at me!!!! I then pick him up and move him to another area. Are you doing anything else that I should be doing, or, is he simply too young to understand what "No" means?

Restaurant etiquette: Normally, I try and feed him before we go out to eat but this past Friday, I took him to lunch where I met a friend of mine and her 2 kids (8 months and 2 yrs old). I put O in his highchair and he ate his lunch. When we were getting up to leave, I saw that O had dropped most of his lunch on the ground. So, I went under the table and tried to pick up most of the food because it looked just awful!! (Before I had a kid I would see tables where families had been and noticed how messy they were.) Anyway, my friend thought I was nuts for trying to clean up some of the food that he dropped. Do any of you do this, or am I the only whacko?

Sorry for the long post............. I hope you are all well

How are you ladies teaching "No" to your little ones?
We are trying to use a combo of "no" and "dont" because I know so many kids that all they say is no no no. Peyton is in a stage right now where he hits in the face (playfully,but it still hurts!) and we take his hand and firmly say "Dont hit, not nice". However, when he is being a stinker and trying to pull the dvd player off the tv stand we say firmly "NO!". He normally stops, looks at us and keeps trying to do it, but after a second time he will normally stop. Last week he looked at me and started crying, i felt so bad and picked him up to cuddle and he hit me in the face! So I said dont hit, not nice and put him back down. Little brat!

Restaurant etiquette: We take a toy and a book to keep him occupied, and just recently he started eating puffs so now we give him one at a time and it keeps him quiet and happy! I have fed him out to eat a couple of times and he does well, but if we can do it before we go we do.

Changing in public? Does anyone else have a issue with this??
He HATES being changed when we are out. I put him down on the changing station and he bucks and screams bloody murder. I even put a blanket down so its not cold but he throws a fit. Since he is getting bigger and can move fast it makes it hard to change him in public. So if i dont have to I dont. :o

All the pics are adorable, our little ones are almost one.:eek:

Have a great day!

Teaching No We pretty much do the same thing. Firmly say No, remove the object or situation. I remember reading that at this age they don't really understand and that the best tactic is to distract them with something else. That will change when they start getting upset when we remove something... something to look forward to! :rolleyes:

Restaurant We try as much as possible to keep the floor clean. We pick up whatever possible (ie sometimes we let her play with sugar packets and they can be picked up easily). When it's messy when we leave, I leave extra tip on the table, even at places that are kinda fast food'ish.

Exersaucer Same for us. Annabelle did not want to be put in there once she started crawling. We have an older model that can convert and open up (remove the seat and end up with a half saucer). I've done that and leave it around. She plays with it from time to time, standing inside it.

It is definitely more challenging now to keep an eye on our mobile babies! Bruises seem to occur regularly. We've actively started baby proofing our new home with outlet covers and cabinet latches. Despite my best efforts, I know there will be pinched fingers in cabinet drawers soon. :(

Happy Monday!

izzy Congrats on STTN!

DS is still a mess with sleeping. He now has a head cold and the ped confirmed his upper teeth are coming in. I can now see one really coming down and he was a miserable mess today no matter what I did for him, so tonight should be fun.:rolleyes: I should be going to bed early instead of surfing the internet. We went through the same thing before his lower teeth came in and after that he slept great. I'm looking forward to these teeth coming in and maybe I can finally get some sleep after that!

Teaching No DS is starting to get the picture. We say no and try to distract him with something else. I can see he's beginning to understand b/c sometimes he actually listens! He also shakes his head "no" sometimes. That's really cute.

Restaurants We actually went out to dinner last weekend and I wanted to take some puffs, but I didn't want him to make a mess and I didn't want to clean them up. I have worked as a waitress and I always thought it was really rude and gross when people didn't clean up after their kids. I take toys that I can attach to the belt of his booster seat or that are easy to clean since they usually hit the floor at some point.

Changing in public I have rarely changed him in public, but I'm sure it would be an issue, since he's all over the place at home when I'm trying to change him.

DS is standing independently for longer and longer periods of time. He is also beginning to take steps! I can't believe it! He is quite the daredevil with his push-behind walker. He goes as fast as he can until he crashes into something, then spins it around and goes in the other direction. Sometimes, he gets really tricky and uses it one-handed or pushes with one hand while playing with the toys on it with the other. I know I'm going to have quite a few gray hairs from this little guy. He already seems like he has no fear.

Restaurants-If H drops a lot I clean it up too. In the mall food court I actually saw a broom and dust pan one day and swept up H's mess. People probably thought I was crazy but I think it's gross when people don't even atleast attempt to pick up their kids food messes.

No-H laughs at me too. I think it's because to me apparently stern=loud and I raise my voice and he thinks I'm playing because my voice changes. I don't know how to say it firm but not loud!

Shaq-Are you a SAHM now? I saw J's schedule and it looks like you are, or is that your weekend schedule?

Cute baby pics everyone.

Hey ladies...

Doc.'s apt (almost 10 month) stats:

Weight: 22 lbs
Height: 30 inchs

Em is getting 2 more teeth the total will be 8 now...

Teaching No: We say no in a firm voice and either remove her or the object away and she will shake her head no (which is very funny)... she now cries when I say no and covers her eyes... (I have an actress on my hands)..:rolleyes:

Slapping: Someone else stated their DC does this ... so does Emily.. anyone who picks her up she either grabs their nose or slaps them... (and it is very embarrassing because she hurts them).. so I say "no" very firmly..

If I do take something away from her she pitches the biggest fit....so when she does that I either leave her in her crib or pac and play and let her cry (I walk away) and when she is done I come and get her... I cannot believe she is already starting this behavior... :(

Resturants: I usually take toys and a bottle...

Changing: DD hates whereever I do it... she screams, clamps her legs together, arches her back... as you can tell Em has a temper on her..

No: We do the same thing as steviem. I've also read that it is a bit too early for DS to understand "no." On the other hand, my DH is convinced DS knows he shouldn't be doing certain things and tries to get away with it.

Izzy:Congratulations on STTN! I'm so envious....

Declan has been waking up three times a night for the last five days. I thought his belly was bothering him at first, but he is pooping fine. Last night, just as the last four nights, DS went to bed at 7:40 without a fuss. But then he woke at 9:00 and screamed for 20 minutes. So, I went upstairs, nursed him for five minutes, and put him back down. He slept for an hour and then started crying again. This time, I went up to his room, rubbed his head, and he feel back to sleep . . . only to wake at 12:30. And again at 3:45 . . . and again at 5:20. Ugh.

Edited to comment on the fact that Declan and Emily have the same stats!

I don't know what the problem is . . . could be teeth, could be that he is hitting a growth spurt. I'm at a loss.

In other baby news, Declan decided to move on from rocking back and forth on his hands and knees. He actually started crawling. I guess cruising gave him a taste of the benefits of mobility. So, on Monday he started going after the little soccer ball my Dad brought back from the World Cup last summer--that will make Grampa happy! DS crawl is unique though. He sticks one leg out straight and uses it like a paddle to propel himself forward. Then, after a few crawls forward, he'll straighten both legs and stand up (keeping hands on the floor). Funny stuff.

Oh. One last thing! He had his 9 month appointment on Monday (about three weeks late!). His stats: 22 lbs, 30 inches long

Restaurant etiquette we havent had to clean up after him as yet. i usually feed him before we eat and then he eats with us (we give him his snacks but just a piece at a time).

Changing doesnt matter where it is, its a struggle - he HATES being changed and sometimes i'm pulling at his leg (if i change him on the floor) to try to get him to stay. when he's in a great mood he'll grab his feet and stretch open his legs and just be silly which makes it more challenging! we dont like to change him in public places unless we have no choice. we usually change him in the car before we go in somewhere.

Teaching No we very sternly say no (usually Javan No) and he looks at us and will try to do it again so we say his name again and he will stop. if he persists we tell him No and move him away. somehow he listens to his dad more :rolleyes: if i tell him no he will either listen to me or he thinks its a game and will keep smiling at me, but if DH says no he moves away the first time. the other night he was standing at the kitchen cabinet and had opened the door, dh asked him to close the door and get away and he did!!! but if i ask him to do that he keeps banging at them. he does throw a fit when we take soemthing away from him though - usually we can distract him with something else but if he really wants it, he tries to find it and gets REALLY mad.

amurphy Declan's crawl sounds so funny and cute! do you have a video?

Izzy congrats on the new house AND on STTN. i bet you're so relieved to be in your own place now.

Ryan 8 teeth!!! wow!!! we dont even have our first!!!

Niko&Troi what a cute pic...i cant believe how grown up Troi looks now - such a little man.

Pink I'm still working full time. i work at home 2 days a week and then Dh is off Tues/F and half day Th. he soemtimes takes Javan to class with him on thursday mornings. so i'm lucky enough to be able to feed him on a regular basis. on the days when i am not with him he takes a bottle or if they are out running errands dh brings by to me and i feed. my office is just 15mins from home. i still pump twice a day, sometimes just one.

I am exhausted!

We just spent 6 hours in the ER with Peyton. He did great at the sitters yesterday and ate and peed at 430pm, but at 8 when we bathed him and fed him he projectile vomited all over me and him. Then he was crying! We thought he was just over full, bathed him again changed him and i started rocking him to sleep. Then he sits up, looks at me and vomited all over us again!!:rolleyes:
We didnt want to take him to the ER yet because he wasnt hot, his mood was fine other than sleepy and he was acting ok. We put him to bed, and around midnight he wakes us up by coughing, we go in and he had puked all over the crib, himself the wall. So at this point we are worried, we clean him up and his room and i am going to get him dressed to go to the hospital and he falls asleep again! So I hold onto him and we sleep until 6pm. He is screaming for food so we made a bottle and he ate it and fell back asleep, only to sit up in my lap and for the 3rd time in 12 hours vomit all over me and him. :eek:
So Dan and I get dressed and take him to the ER where they give him Zofran for the vomitting, and he puked it right back up :( So we gave him pedialite and waited and waited for him to pee. He hadnt peed since 430pm last night so we were really worried about dehydration. He fell asleep on me in the ER and woke up hungry so he got more pedialite and finally peed. We were worried he would have to have a IV. Dr said its a tummy bug going around our town and he should be ok by tomorrow or sat at the latest. So its pedialite and popsicles for him until he stops puking, then applesauce and watery cereal, no formula till the vomiting stops.

So its been a looooong night, followed by a loooong 6 hours in the ER. Now Dan is at home with Peyton and I am at work, yes at work. Boo:(

I feel like I could sleep for days at this point. Thanks for letting me get it out here. Hugs!

I'm sorry to keep complaining in here, but I'm getting to the end of my rope. I feel like I'm in hell. Last night, DS went down at 7 and was up at 9. Then I fed him and rocked him back to sleep. I put him down, he woke up, we started all over again. Getting him to sleep involves him thrashing and squirming all over me. He climbs all the way up my chest, then squirms down to my lap then starts all over again. When I finally get him to calm down and sleep, I have to guess the perfect time to put him down, because if he wakes up, I have to do it all.over.again. I got him back down finally at 11, then he was back up at 12 because he pooped. Then we did it all over again and it took until 2 to get him down. He slept until 5-THREE WHOLE HOURS!! He ate and did the whole thrashing routine again. I got him to sleep and of course, he woke up. I sat down with him, he began squirming around AGAIN. I had to just put him down and leave the room because I just couldn't take it anymore. I went to my room and put a pillow over my head. He actually didn't cry for very long, but I heard him babbling and playing. I woke up an hour later and still heard him. I was trying to drag myself up to go and get him, but before I did, the monitor went silent and he was back asleep. I feel so terrible leaving him in his crib awake for so long, but I HAD to sleep. DH is telling me that an hour is not that long and that obviously he was happy playing or he would have been screaming. It's not making me feel any better. DH is working night shift right now, so he can't help at all. I know DS doesn't feel well (head cold and upper teeth coming) and I'm trying so hard to be a good, patient mom, but it's SO hard. He's getting Pediacare drops and Tylenol, but they always wear off before he can have another dose. TEETHING SUCKS!!! I'm trying so hard to hold on until those teeth come in and hopefully he'll sleep well again like he did after his lower teeth came in. Again, sorry for the vent, if I even make sense-I AM SO TIRED!!

Dans Girl: I hope your DS feels better soon :)

Jbenny: I am so sorry.... I feel your pain. Don't be hard on yourself for leaving DS in his crib. I am not into the CIO method either but sometimes, for your sanity's sake, you need to walk away.

I hope tonight is better for you and that your DS sleeps and that you get some sleep.

Take good care. :)

dan's girl - so sorry to hear about your DS! Hope Peyton's feeling a little better and that you all get a decent night's sleep tonight.

jbenny - it stinks that you are having such a hard time with your DS sleeping. Hopefully when his teeth come in, things will be a little easier for you all. HUGS!

diaper changes - We almost ALWAYS give DS a toy while changing his diaper, and when we're in public, I resort to some of his favorite songs to sing to him - Monkeys Jumping on the Bed, Wheels on the Bus, etc. - anything that pulls his focus to my face. For the most part it does the trick.

sippy cup - has anyone had sucess with this? I try to give one to DS every day with a little water or juice in it, but he has no interest. It's just a giant toy to him. Although, when we give him plastic cups to play with, he'll usually pull them up to his mouth like he wants to take a sip, and likes to sip out of our cups when we offer them. Since he's breastfed, he only gets about one bottle a day, but they are the big Avent ones that are hard to hold. I'd like to get him used to a sippy cup or something in the next few months so weaning won't be such a hard adjustment, but I have no idea how to do this. Any advice?

steviem

Gina: My DS is also BF and never took a bottle (until recently). So, we began giving him the sippy cup when he started solids at 4 months. From 4 ms - about 7 months, we had to hold the sippy cup for him and he would take a drink. Now, he knows how to do it himself... albeit, most of the water ends up on his clothes since he likes to hold it upside down or throw it across the room :rolleyes: , but even so, he does manage to drink from the cup on his own.

Give it some time.... like I noted above, it took us 3 months for DS to get the hang of it. Again, if you hold it up for him, he will eventually understand and want to do it on his own like a "big boy".... at least that's my theory! :)

Copied from May Mommies:

Just wanted to give a quick update and also bump us back up. H went to the Dr. today and he's 19 1/2 lbs! He gained 2 lbs in the last two months. I am so glad he's finally gaining some weight. He seems so small to me. He's also getting 3 teeth right now. When they come in he will have a total of 5! We found out today he has eczema :( which I self diagnosed two mo. ago ;) but the Dr. said at that time he did not have it. Well he does! And it's gone from being just a couple of spots on the back of his arms and on his legs to all over his poor little butt. I thought it was some kind of weird diaper rash at first but no. It's eczema of the butt :D Hope you all are doing well.

Have a Happy Easter!

I have found a way to get some sleep. It's not the best sleep, but it's sleep. I've slept most of the night in my glider (I might as well be handcuffed to that darn thing) holding DS for the past two nights. It has recline and I have an ottoman, so I took my pillow and comforter in there. It wasn't half bad compared to being up all night. Usually somewhere in the middle of the night, I woke up and he was in a deep enough sleep that I could put him down. The poor kid is a mess. His head cold is almost gone and he actually ate some solids for the first time in about three days. One of his front teeth is just about out. It seems like he's beginning to feel better, so I hope his sleep improves, too. I'm willing to put up with all of this since he doesn't feel well, but it's got to improve.

jbenny: I am sorry for the sleep issues..

Pink: Sorry to hear about the eczema.. but us mommies are so smart!

Gina: sippy cup.. we have been giving it to DD since she was 6 months old.. .and I know your frustration... she would not drink her milk or juice... but everyday we give it to her for every feeding.. but bed time she gets a bottle... just one of those things you have to keep at..

Solids: So I am having a dilemma here... I have been giving DD puffs and other solids for awhile... but unfortunately I have not been giving her as much of the solids as some of you ladies have given your DC... so now... yesterday morning she was sitting in her highchair and I gave her puffs.. well she started choking.. I got the stuff out of her mouth.. (after sweating of course)... so I figured it was a fluke... well then we went to breakfast and I thought "ok lets do this again".. so I gave her more.. and she started choking again... got the stuff out of her mouth and I have not given it to her since... so I am just nervous... and I will get back on the horse again and give it to her.. and I do know all kids have their "choking moments"... but does anyone else feel really hesitant about giving their child solids? Or am I the only narotic mom?

Hope all the sick babies and tired mommies get better soon!

We've been lucky that for 1 week now that Annabelle has had her own room to sleep in, she STTN very well. She sometimes wakes up early ~5ish but it's typically for a dirty diaper. We're just not sure what to do at that point (feed, put her back in the crib, bring in bed with us, up for the day). If she's not awake by 6, we typically wake her up around 6:30am-7am to get ready for daycare.

She's been having a runny nose again for a few days. And yesterday she started this wet cough. I'm not sure if it's a real cough, so keeping fingers crossed.

solids Chocking/gagging... when I tried to move DD up to stage 3 foods (I didn't even realize I had bought stage 3), it took a while to get her ready. At first she would gag if there was anything chunky in her mouth. I think that may have even happened with puffs in the beginning but I can't remember (it's seems like so long ago already). My guess is that she just didn't like the feeling in her mouth/throat when she swallowed. So I stopped for a couple of weeks. When I tried again, she seemed ready for everything and anything!

I have noticed still sometimes if I'm feeding her a stage1-2 smooth puree if I mix it with something chunky, she needs a warning. If she's not expecting it, she'll gag on it.

sippy cups This took a while for us as well. The first time or two she took it fine. After that, for weeks I couldn't get her to suck on it. I thought she didn't get it. So we used regular cups for a while. That wasn't easy either. She always wants to drink from our cups, but she wants to take it all at once and ends up drowning herself. I'd put a few drops in a cup and help her take just a sip at a time. There was a LOT of spilling. Recently, she got the hang of it. She can drink from a cup a few sips in a row. The problem is when she is d
