Just wondering if anyone on CC lives in Brooklyn? We are about to move the whole family (DD1 is 2.5 and DD2 is 10 months) across the country from San Francisco for DH's new job in New York. We lived in NYC before and I lived in Brooklyn for a year during that time, so I'm familiar with the area but let's face it, I was in my 20s, unmarried, & childless, so I didn't pay any attention to kid-related stuff. We are pretty sure we want to move to Park Slope, but are also considering Cobble Hill and Brooklyn Heights. I'd love to hear any thoughts on good kid stuff in Bklyn. TIA!

Ah, Brooklyn!

My husband and I actually did the reverse move - we were in Brooklyn (we lived in Cobble Hill; I worked in Park Slope) and now we're in San Francisco. We were married but childless at the time, so I don't have any great suggestions offhand. But if you have any other questions about the various neighborhoods from a more recent Brooklynite, feel free to ask! Some days I really pine for it...

Hi Tunibell,
Funny! This will be my second stint in New York after two separate stints in San Francisco and I'm pretty excited to get back there. How long ago did you move to SF? I can hook you up with SF info if you need it!

I'm from the area (though not Brooklyn) and I know there are a handful of Brooklynites on here, as well as tons of other NYC moms who would be quite welcoming. ;) There's sooooooo much to do for moms/babies around here you will have no problems meeting people.
Good luck with the move!

though i haven't lived in brooklyn for a few years now, i can pretty safely say that you'll feel right at home in park slope. i read an article not too long ago about how the sidewalks are overcrowded with strollers! i think cobble hill would be great too since i know that alot of people have renovated brownstones there in the past few years in an attempt to "settle down". so my guess is that kids abound there as well.

good luck.

I live in Carroll Gardens which is ajacent to Cobble Hill. Tons of kids here and also in Cobble Hill. Check out the website Parkslopeparents.com (I think that's right) They have a lot of great info.

My friend lived in Park Slope for several years with her two boys (ages 12 and 8). She loved living in Brooklyn and really misses it. She moved further upstate about two years ago due to DH's job. Sorry I don't have any info or tips but just wanted to say lots of families love it there!

I'm also a soon-to-be Brooklyn parent. Park Slope/Carroll Gardens is a great place for kids. Definitely check out the parkslopeparents.com website. There is definitely a lot to do in these neighborhoods for parents/kids.
