My Brother & FSIL are doing navy & red for their colors. FSIL insists that she's seen white roses dipped navy, only on the tips. Has anyone seen this done or have pictures of navy flowers?

Personally, I wouldn't recommend flowers that are "dipped" or dyed - they have a very unnatural look to them, and I personally don't like them. Have they considered leaving navy out of the flowers, and using their other color (red) with white or other complimentary colors?
I think brides and grooms sometimes become slaves to the "official colors" of their wedding - like blue and silver, or lavendar and gold, and don't venture outside of those strict parameters. If you look at higher end weddings, especially their florals, they usually use one or more complementary colors besides the main color itself. It's much more visually interesting.

The entire flower isn't dyed, only the very top. It's personally not something I'd pick, but something she wants.
As far as what the higher end weddings are doing, they could care less. They are set only on what they want. :)

im not familiar w/flowers that are dipped..(OR any navy flowers for that matter)..but i agree w/a PP about people getting so wrapped up in their colors....might be a bit overboard!...and overkill....especially w/flowers!
you might suggest using a navy ribbon thats wrapped around the stems of the bouquets? or another navy accessory to tie it in?

I know what the OP is talking about. I haven't been able to find any suitable pictures though. You might encourage her to talk to a florist. I think they airbrush the roses to get the look she is looking for and it is done on fresh flowers.

we have a florist here that's supposedly famous for their blue roses (dyed of course) here's a link to their website, so you can see what they look like. http://www.roxainnes.com/
I don't think this is exactly what tour fsil wants, but still might be an option.

I haven't seen dipped roses like your FSIL mentioned, but I have heard that dyed flowers, if used in bouquets, can sometimes stain the bride's dress. So for that reason alone, I'd be hesitant to use them in bouquets, though not in chapel or table arrangements.
As far as other flowers go, I'm not sure if this is dark enough, but delphiniums (http://www.freshroses.com/delph.html) come in a fairly dark blue:

I know that they dye daisies by putting food coloring into the water and the flowers take the coloring into the petals. I'm not sure how you'd get "just" the tips blue.

I can not find anything so far on navy tipped roses. I have found the following:

Been there done that. :) My brother's in the Navy & he's wearing his uniform. The BMs are wearing David's red dresses with I think white flowers. She wants to carry these roses with the blue tips. They saw them at David's and are both really into them.

My brother had that done at his wedding about 20 years ago. Im not sure how they do them these days, but it was done with some kinda floral spray paint. Will see be doing her own flowers? Im sure if she talks with the florist they will know how to do them.
huh.. interesting! ;)
Has she thought about blue hydrangea? Might be a pretty compliment to the dark blue Navy uniform. I think you'd lose anything navy in the bouquet standing next to the dark suits?

Or blue delphinium.

Her cousin is doing them. You know those roses are, well I call them antique looking, that are kind of old with the red at the top? That's exactly what she wants, only with blue. Are they naturally red, or are they dyed?

Cross post, sorry.
They are getting married in December, so the hydrangas are out. They are my fav flowers at the moment :)
The only blue flowers she wants will be hers, so it will look ok with the BM dresses/guys suits.
Hey, if she wants silk rose petals, this website has navy, red, and white!

The roses that have red tips are probably grown that way.
If she wants to get navy tipped, they need to be white roses that are airbrushed. It's probably a special paint or even food coloring. Talk to a florist to see how it's done.

I'm also going to say NO on the dyed flowers - I've heard horror stories about them staining the dresses!
I was once against silk flowers for bouquests (until I saw Ambula704's gorgeous wedding, all done in silks). Perhaps using silks she can find flowers the right colour she wants??

The roses that are white with the red tips are called Fire & Ice Roses (I'm sure they go by other names too) and are grown that way.
Although, this guy who liked my friend a lot couldn't find them (they are her fav) so he bought white roses and painted the tips red. ;)
Best of luck to your SIL
