About 1/2 of the time I cook and we eat at home, the other 1/2 of the time consists of eating out and eating over at my parents' or MIL's house...
What would you say is a "perfect age" to start a family?
HeatherFL
11-22-2006, 04:08 PM
Well, maybe I'm not the best person to answer this, because I don't want kids, but I think it's the age where you are mature enough and financially responsible enough to raise a child so that he/she has everything she/he NEEDS (not necessarily wants) and you can be there for that child no matter what. For some people that is 20, for some it's 30 and for others, it's never.

heather1029
12-09-2006, 07:59 AM
George Bush. I'd ask him the real reasons we're still in Iraq (of course, I'd need a Top Security Clearance for that).
What's one thing you regret, that you'd like to go back in time to change how you acted in that situation?
KaliLily
12-09-2006, 10:21 AM
I would have applied to George Washington University and researched ways to pay for it in case I was accepted. Unfortunately, I just wasn't brave/adventurous enough at 18 to go to school 3000 miles from home, and wasn't creative enough to find the money for an expensive school.
What is/was your proudest moment?
HeatherFL
12-09-2006, 07:49 PM
Beating cancer for the third time and finishing a half marathon despite the doctors telling me that I had too much heart and kidney damage to do so.
Do you ever think about a different career? If so, which one?
suzubeane
12-09-2006, 08:07 PM
Not really. I've done different things within my field (Commercial interiors, for example. And I had one job that was strictly drawing and modifying convenience and drug chains, and big box stores. *snore.*) But I am too too excited by design problem solving and too fascinated by construction to ever really leave architecture.
What's your guilty pleasure, and does anyone know about it?
heather1029
12-13-2006, 07:10 AM
Yeah, coffee in all its various forms. In college, I actually got to the point where I was drinking 6-10 cups a day and getting heart palpitations and dizziness. Once, I started to black out in the shower and called 911! These days, I drink about 4-5 cups a day, but I'll dodge the large amounts of caffeine by having a latte or half-caff.
What's the shortest period you've ever stayed at a job and why?
suzubeane
12-13-2006, 09:02 AM
(Not to hog this game, but this is funny. IMO, anyway.)
Two shifts!
The job was "attendant" in a parking garage, and they required that new people take three training shifts with a seasoned vet. I hope no one is insulted when I tell you that this is a job that does not require more than 10 min. of training. I don't know how I stood in a small both next to someone for two shifts, or which was worse: the excruciating boredom or the exhaust fumes. If I had fainted from the latter, there would have been no place to fall!
Oh ... and the name the parking garage? "Fitz Inn."
Did you wish you'd been given a different first name, and if so, what would have been your preference?
zhannushka
12-13-2006, 10:00 AM
I have always really loved my name. And what makes it very special is that I was named after my great-grandfather who died when his son (my grandpa) was only 1 years old. But - if I absolutely had to choose another name, I would've liked to be named Frida (after my great-grandmother).
Who is the most interesting person you've ever met?
sublime311
12-28-2006, 04:01 PM
DH - he was in the Army and has so many great stories to tell. He also comes from a completely different background/part of the country than I do. He hooked me with his stories!
Tell me about your kitchen junk drawer. What's in there??

What was your most memorable New Year's Eve?
Adaya
12-29-2006, 05:44 PM
Watching Dick Clark on tv and then spontaneously deciding to catch the train into the city with my friends to go to Times Square and catch all the fun "live and in color". :D
Where will you spend NYE this year?

12-29-2006, 07:48 PM

What is the best vacation you have ever gone on?
sublime311
12-29-2006, 09:48 PM
Here's a story for you!
When I was 12, I spent the summer with my aunt and uncle who lived in Yontville outside of Napa. They had a beautiful vineyard surrounded ranch with horses, pigs and chickens on it. They also owned a janitorial service and I got to do and see things I wouldn't have been able to otherwise (be in an airport tower, in several wineries and banks). I was actually IN Robert Mondavi's office. Like IN IT. Of course, we were cleaning it, but still. Also, because of their relationship with Mondavi, we also were guests at their summer picnic concerts. During that summer, I also walked across the Golden Gate, spent the day at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk, went to the county fair where my cousins were showing pigs, started my period and love for Rick James. Ah, yes, it was a great vacation. =) It was also the summer that Lady Di married Charles and Laura married Luke.
Have you ever had a miserable vacation? What happened?
nicole
12-30-2006, 11:31 AM
Not really miserable. I almost wish I had so I would have an interesting story to tell!
Probably the suckiest one was when my family went to the Oregon coast. That was before we had the Internet and therefore discovered Hotels.com and the places we stayed weren't the greatest. It also rained the whole time and we thought it would be warm so we only had one pair of pants each and no long sleeved shirts. We also went through Olympia on a Sunday so the Capitol building was closed and everything.
What are some things you wanted to be when you grew up?
sublime311
12-30-2006, 03:36 PM
A teacher (I am now!) and an astronaut!

CLW4KU
01-02-2007, 12:19 PM
My dream job would be a OB/GYN....I work in a hospitals, however, in the business office.
What did you do on your last birthday?

01-02-2007, 12:33 PM
Went to a job interview then spent the evening alone eating cake and watching tv (DH was on a business trip).

What's the meanest thing anyone has ever said to you?
sublime311
01-02-2007, 02:50 PM
My ex-boyfriend was mad and lashing out. He called me a "lazy b*tch". It was so far from the truth - I did everything for him. I should have left him right there, but I didn't. Thank God that miserable part of my life is over.
What is the kindest thing anyone ever said to you?
CLW4KU
01-02-2007, 08:31 PM
After my fiance proposed our parents were waiting for us to get home to celebrate. His mom told me that she has been praying for "me" since FH was a baby and she couldn't have picked out anyone more perfect for her son!
What color puts you in the best mood?

01-02-2007, 09:06 PM
pink
What's your favorite room in your home? Why?
sublime311
01-02-2007, 10:57 PM
My kitchen is my favorite because it's new and has upgraded appliances, corian counters with a deep integral sink, and maple cabinets. It's beautiful and well designed. Plus, it's where DH cooks for me!
If you could make one major change or upgrade to your current home, what would it be?
nicole
01-03-2007, 02:01 PM
Finish finish the basement. It's been sort of half-heartedly finished.
If you could repeat a year of your life, which one would it be and why?
sublime311
01-03-2007, 05:08 PM
Repeat to relive is 2004 - I was engaged in March then immediately began planning my October wedding. It was an amazing year!
Repeat to make better would have been 2005. It was a horribly tough year financially. Ugh... We made some bad decisions and trusted people we shouldn't have. I would love to do it over and make better decisions.
What is your most prized possession?
heather1029
01-05-2007, 09:38 AM
All of my personal artwork. If my apartment caught on fire, the first thing I'd grab would be my paintings and drawings. There's no way I would let all that time I spent slaving over those pieces go to waste.
If someone asked your acquaintances what your personality was, what would they say about you? Would this be a true analysis of you?
CLW4KU
01-05-2007, 11:16 AM
They would say that I'm a snot and intimidating. No, it's not my "true colors". I come across that way because I'm very independent and want things done a certain way. I get what I want, mostly because I work for it. But every once in awhile they'll get a "daddy's girl" story.
If you could change one thing about your DH/SO what would it be?
sublime311
01-05-2007, 12:25 PM
He's pretty shy. He doesn't like to start conversation unless somebody initiates it and then the other person still has to keep it going. Since he's shy he doesn't like speaking on the phone or ordering food, etc. It doesn't seem like a big deal, but I get tired of always being responsible for these things. He's fine once he get's to know you, but he's still a man of few words.
Do you do or say things that remind you of your mom? How does that make you feel?
nicole
01-05-2007, 01:51 PM
Getting excited about a good deal is the only thing I can think of. We're quite different.
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would that be and why?
sublime311
01-05-2007, 05:05 PM
Flagstaff, AZ. Boring, I know. Every time I've been there, I've felt connected spirtually - I've never felt like that anywhere else. Especially, in Oak Creek Canyon between Sedona and Flagstaff. I feel like I belong there.. It's where I'm supposed to be.
What is your idea of a perfect vacation?
CLW4KU
01-07-2007, 02:55 PM
Anywhere a beach is involved. Very low key. Just a beach chair, sunglasses, and a good magazines while listening to the ocean. Ahh...
What makes you a nerd?
KrissyCat7
01-07-2007, 04:59 PM
Growing up I was a nerd because I always did so well in school.
Do you like football? If you do, who is your favorite team?
CLW4KU
01-12-2007, 10:27 AM
No, I absolutely HATE football. The only things good about football are superbowl commercials.
If you could have a day to pamper yourself, what would that include?
sublime311
01-12-2007, 09:06 PM
Is it sad to imagine that I can't really think of anything that would be considered "pampering" myself? But... I'll give it a shot!
I would start off with a really decedent non-egg or meat-based breakfast. Fresh-baked croissonts with jam, fruit, fresh-squeezed OJ with lots of pulp, and a cup of green tea. Then I'd be off for a pedicure and manicure, hair cut and color, and eye-brow wax! Then after after a delicious lunch at Tohono Chul Park Tea Room (http://www.tohonochulpark.org/tea2.html), I would have fun shopping (and purchasing) art for my new home.
That was fun!
Tell us about your favorite visit to a tourist attraction - whether it's the "Largest Ball of Yarn" or the Grand Canyon, we want to read about it!
nicole
01-15-2007, 12:21 PM
Driving from Washington to Missouri, DH (then BF) and I passed about 100 signs for Wall Drug in Wall, South Dakota, so we just had to stop and see what this place that offered "Free ice!" "Free coffee to vetrans!" and "A T-rex!" was all about. Turns out, not much. It's so hilarious that for a pretty nothing place, it was advertised for miles and miles in both directions!
Do you have any plans for Valentines day?
mindy75
01-16-2007, 12:07 AM
Nothing really. We'll probably just get a sitter and have a regular dinner out that night. My DH's birthday is the 12th. He'll be 30 this year, so we're going to Tunica, MS with his twin bro, sister, and their spouses to celebrate.
Tell us about the first time you flew anywhere in a plane. How old were you? Where were you going? Did you fly alone? Were you nervous?
nicole
01-16-2007, 08:34 AM
Okay, I was 16 or almost 16. I was flying from WA to CA with one of my good friends to spend a month at my friend's aunt's place. My friend had flown before, but I was really really nervous. I remember we flew Southwest and our flight crew was really fun - they sang, and even their oxygen mask speech was funny. I had hot chocolate and sat in a middle seat. I really did not like taking off or landing at all - I still don't, actually.
If you could plan the perfect party (budget not really an issue) what kind of party would it be? Who'd be invited?
KrissyCat7
01-16-2007, 10:37 AM
I would throw a party on a tropical island. It wuld include dinner, lots of drinks, and dancing. I would invite my & DH's closest family and friends. Probably around 40 people.:D Heck Id make it a two week long party.
Are you happy with the amount of education you have? Would you like more/less?
mindy75
01-16-2007, 12:24 PM
No I'm not happy. I used to be smart, if lazy. So, I stopped my BA in the middle. I'm working on finishing. When I was in HS I planned on going to grad school eventually. I don't think that's going to happen now. My own fault, of course.
If you could have any career other than the one you have, what would it be and why?
KrissyCat7
01-16-2007, 07:26 PM
I'd be a kindergarten or preschool teacher. I love working with children and I love the atmosphere of schools.
What is something you regret doing?
sublime311
01-18-2007, 07:10 PM
Slacking during high school. I only managed to get by because I was a good test taker. I rarely did homework or turned in classwork, but I got all A's on tests so was a C student. I would rather write notes to my friends. I only really cared about Social Studies and Writing. I wish I could have applied myself like I do now.
Are you a good public speaker? Have your experiences been mostly postive or negative?
Adaya
01-18-2007, 08:27 PM
I think I'm a pretty good public speaker and most of my experiences have been mostly positive. The only negative one I can think of wasn't all that negative, it was mostly funny or rather embarrassing. ;)
What's the most challenging thing you've done in your life?
sublime311
01-18-2007, 09:05 PM
(Adaya, I can't believe you didn't spill the beans about your funny experience! Come on!!)
Physically: Climbed the highest mountain in Tucson with DH. It took a long time with all the stops, but I still did it. I finally had to stop about 1/2 hour from the top because I just physically couldn't go on anymore.
Mentally: Received my Masters in Education.
What is the most daring thing you've ever done in your life?
Adaya
01-18-2007, 09:11 PM
(Adaya, I can't believe you didn't spill the beans about your funny experience! Come on!!)
Oops, my bad....
I was doing the welcome greeting at my church as I had done tons of times in the past. On that particular Sunday, my pastor's parents were there right on the front row and for some reason I just could not get my words out. I kept stuttering over my words and what was crazy was I wasn't really nervous or anything. I just couldn't get my words out. So instead of just stopping, I kept trying and then in the middle of it all, I just started cracking up laughing. It was the funniest thing ever. Everybody just laughed with me and just started clapping, and me being the clown that I am, I just took a bow. :D
KrissyCat7
01-19-2007, 10:50 AM
Hmmmm, Im actually not that daring. I guess I'd go with driving a motorcycle.
Is there anyone in your life that you can actually say you "hate"?
mindy75
01-19-2007, 11:06 AM
There's no one that I actually hate. I try not to waste energy on that sort of emotion. There are a couple of people that I don't have a lot of respect for. My BIL (sis's husband). He drinks too much and my sis has put up with it for about 15 years longer than I would. He drinks alone every night and drinks to get drunk. He's a mopey drunk too. Oh woe is him, whatever. I ain't got time for that! Bad grammar intended ;) . There's also my SIL's husband (my DH's sister). He's very redneck and speaks to their children in a way that is just ugly. He calls them stupid and all kinds of other hurtful things. DH has talked to his sister about it, but she doesn't see a problem  .
Who is the person in your life that you admire most?
KrissyCat7
01-19-2007, 01:14 PM

Do you envy anyone you know? Why?
CLW4KU
01-30-2007, 11:25 AM
I have a friend that went into clinical medicine that I envy. I decided to go into the business side of medicine instead. Sometimes I wish that I would have gone back to school so I could be actively involved with patients rather than trying to figure out what their insurance company should have paid.
What did you want to be when you grew up?

c'est la vie
02-01-2007, 02:41 PM

If you could get a free vacation home anywhere in the US, where would it be and what sort of amenities would it have?
lml41981
02-05-2007, 02:42 PM
My vacation home would be in Vieques, Puerto Rico. I've never been there, but my aunt lived there. That was her home and was where her heart was. It is where her ashes are and I would love to spend time there. It was truly her island...everywhere she went, she was known and loved.
The amenities...fully stocked kitchen, fully stocked bar, pool, spa, sauna, walking distance to the ocean...luxurious bath linens and an unlimited supply of Penta water (my aunt's favorite water)...lots of good coffee, lots of good chocolate and lots of laughter.

I love my job! I'm a 6th grade teacher and it's what I've always wanted to do. It's the most challenging thing I've ever done, but at the end of the day, I know I'm contributing to society in a most fundemental way. I make a difference.
Quick! You're having an impromptu get-together this weekend! What are you serving??

Yes, I would have eaten healthier as a child and developed better exercising programs. It's hard to be the "fat" child of the family.

I believe in something greater than me. I don't know if it's God or just nature. I'm agnostic, but spiritual at this point of my life. At 39, I'm still searching for answers.
Do you remember when you stopped believing in Santa, the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy?

I was allowed anything OTHER than dogs since I am allergic to the dander in their fur. So I guess my favorite would be my cat and my hamster. (Can't say I was too fond of the fish. )
Has there ever been someone who irritated you to the point where you just wanted to slap them? lol :D If so, what did they do to bring you to that point?
