Our family is planning a trip to San Antonio in August, and we're looking for a good hotel. I've been to San Antonio a million times, but always for school trips, so I never had the responsibility of picking where we were going to stay. (Likewise, I also never had to drive myself anywhere, so I have no idea where all of the attractions are.)

We're looking for:
*reasonable price (under $150/night, before taxes - obviously, the lower the better)
*a suite, with two definite rooms - no partially divided walls or anything (DS will be 3 months old and will need his own place to sleep while the rest of us are awake)
*a decent pool for 8yo DD
*a decent complimentary breakfast
*good location - easy access to Alamo, Sea World, Riverwalk, etc. Doesn't have to be super close, just easy to get to. We may have to go back and forth to and from the hotel a couple of times a day because of DS.

I've stayed at Embassy Suites Hotel San Antonio-Northwest/I-10, but I don't know if it's a good location or not - I know it's by the airport, but I don't know if that means it's near anything else. It does meet all of our requirements (except maybe location), but it is somewhat on the higher end of what we're willing to pay.

Thanks!

Marriott Rivercenter or Riverwalk are great. The Rivercenter would be my first choice--they are very nice, have a great indoor-outdoor pool, and are the most accessible to everything. They can be pricey on busy weekends, but sometimes they have good specials. I'm not sure if they have suites, as I've only stayed in single rooms. The Crowne Plaza isn't bad, but it's on the very (crappy) end of the Riverwalk, to where I wouldn't even call it "on the Riverwalk".

Psst, if you're lucky, they might have the "community" rate available (check both their hotels on the riverwalk). Last time I stayed it was only $79/night--a steal for that hotel. I'm sure that's only good on singles, but you could get two adjoining rooms.

Thanks, but Marriot Rivercenter is way out of our price range. The lowest rate I could get was $209 for a single room. If it were just DH and I, it would be one thing, because we would appreciate the room/hotel. But with the two kids, it's just not worth the price.

I'm really not comfortable with two adjoining rooms. I really want a suite.

Did you try asking for the rate I mentioned above? It's not at all advertised and you have to ask at the particular hotel--not the 1-800 number.

I didn't call the hotels - I will tomorrow. It will only work if we can get a suite, but it's definitely worth a shot!

You might want to try the Drury Inn on Loop 1604 (I think the cross street is Blanco). It's relatively close to the airport, and you can get to Sea World and Six Flags pretty easily. Not sure if they have the type of room you're looking for, but it might be worth a try.
