I have been trying to put some variety into my workouts and I've expanded into using the rowing machine, which I really like because it's not all legs. However, I have a weird problem and I don't know if it's just me or if this is something that's just part of rowing. This problem is that after a 3-4 20 minute workouts, the skin on my tailbone is completely raw. I'm not rowing every day and I'm not conscious of sliding around a lot on the seat but it's obvious that the motion is enough to wear the skin off my backside. :p

Obviously, I won't be able to continue using the machine for a week or so but I enjoy it and I'd like to incorporate it into my workouts. Is there a technique to this I'm not getting or do rowers wear padded shorts like bicyclists?

I used to use the rowing machine when I was in college but never experienced this problem. My tush would feel a little warmer than normal from the friction but that was it. Could it be the type of fabric of your pants?

hmmm... I have rowed for over 10 years and have never had a problem. Check what type of fabric your shorts are made of. Your tush should not move on the seat so I can't understand how it is getting that way. Ask someone to observe your form to see if you are doing something odd or if the machine has an issue. Sounds so uncomfy!!

Maybe I just have a really pointy tailbone. I'll try some different shorts and see if it helps.
