I'm not sure if this is the proper place to post this, but I'd like to connect with other people who have read Make the Connection, Keeping the Connection, and/or Bob Greene's Total Body Makeover and are attempting to implement its philosophy. I felt that since this is a specific type of program, it warrants a new thread.

I've tried to do the weight loss challenges in the past but could never really get off the ground. I'm interested in beginning the Total Body Makeover TODAY, and I'd like to connect with like-minded individuals. This program stipulates that you do cardio 8 times a week, stop eating three hours before bed, avoid alcohol, and even eliminate refined sugars and "white" foods (breads, pastas, etc.) It's very difficult to endeavor this on my own.

Anyone else reading/doing Oprah's program?

No takers? I'm really surprised. I've been having so much luck with this program, I thought for sure someone else would be doing it also. Boo!

I wasn't really interested in joining up, but how do you cardio 8 days a week? Do you do it twice in one day? Can you do two sessions back to back (a really long session one time)? Or does it have to be separated by a certain time period?

I have enough trouble doing cardio 5 times a week, I think I would keel over if I tried to do it 8 times!

What you're supposed to do is work out twice (morning and evening) on two days of the week, but then take off one day to recuperate. I usually just go to the gym in the morning and then take a walk with DH in the evening. That works well. There have been few times in my life that i've actually done two major cardio workouts in one day.

Did anybody see the Oprah episode last week with Dr. Mehmet Oz, where he talked about his new book, You on a Diet? I've been trying to get my hands on a copy but it was sold out at Borders and Barnes and Noble, and there are 60 people onthe waiting list at my local library.

I've been trying to cut out the four things that he said are really bad for you. Anybody else doing this?

filmgirl - when i was in college (about 8 years ago), i implemented a lot of bob greene's advice from his book, and i lost about 25 pounds.

i did exercise twice a day - morning and evening. once i lost the weight, i cut it back to about 3-5 times/week. the only beverage i drank was water. i ate two small meals and one healthy snack. plus, i allowed myself to eat whatever i wanted for one meal within reason. i started eating more whole wheat and grains - bread, pasta, fruit, and veggies. i kept off the weight until about a year ago.

now, i would like to lose a little bit of weight again, but my dr said i need to stay where i am for now bc we are ttc.

I did not see the Oprah episode but I went to Target last night with the intentions of buying book about eating right and the emotional aspect of eating and I came across the book and bought it.

It had a 30% sticker on it so it was only $17.50. I read 70 pages last night. It is a really easy read and very interesting.

I'm still reading this book and finding it very interesting. I've made every effort to cut out partially hydrogenated oils, which I've found EVERYWHERE, including weight watchers smart ones dinners!!! I think my clothes are starting to get a bit looser, but I need to get going with my exercise routine. At this point i'm only going three days a week = not enough.

Anyone else following the plan?
