I also wanted to post the invites that I made for BIL and FSIL's wedding:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v506/rhinoshirt/f96f5a40.jpg
It's a little blurry.
There is a bride and groom in the background surrounded by a heart.
It is embellished with black and white polkadot grosgrain ribbon, punched out hearts, and heart shaped brads. She is having a heart-themed wedding.
The sides close up and it makes an envelope - I used the envelope template by Coluzzle.

Thank you so much, Vjel & L'il Bit!! I love all the invites you posted. I wish I was creative enough to come up with something like that on my own.
Vjel - I just ordered invites that are very similiar to the one you posted with the hands, except mine had feet. It's for a friends shower I'm throwing. Love it! On the polka dot invite - did you buy card stock that already made a pocket for the invite to insert in? Or did you stamp the dots? I think I have an idea for my invites based on this design and L'il Bits. My stamp is exactly what L'il Bit posted.
L'il Bit - I love both of your invites, particularly the lighter pink. LOVE IT! You have given me a great idea on how to incorporate my colors into the invite. And your three favorite colors listed are the colors of our nursery! THANK YOU! I'm going to try and use a bit of your invite and a bit of Vjel's to come up with a really cool custom invite.
Thank you girls so much! I promise to post when I'm done, although we probably won't start making them for a few more weeks. I'm going to a stampin up party next week so maybe I'll be inspired! Thanks for helping, and I'm going to stick around this journal so hopefully there will be more posts soon.
l'il bit, your shower invites are really cute, love the wedding invite too. Is the bride and groom a stamp?
tgoody, glad to help. Can't wait to see what you come up with!
regarding the polka dot invite...I bought the polka dot cardstock (double sided, dots on one side solid blue on the other) and made the pocket myself. I cut the cardstock 4.25x11 and then folded it in half so the pocket ended up being 4.25x5.5. I cut the front of the pocket about 1" shorter in front so you could see the insert. I secured the pocket w/ 2 eyelets, which you may not be able to see since the pic is kinda small. Then I rounded the corners which was a total PIA, I might add, b/c the cardstock was so darn thick.
also wanted to post the invites I did for my DD's 2nd b-day party (doing a pink/brown theme). i got an early start on them, slacked and finally finished them a few weeks ago. i got the idea/design from card gallery at Two Peas in a Bucket (http://www.twopeasinabucket.com). I forgot to take a pic of the inside but it's just the invite info (nothing all that exciting). It's a gatefold card you open by sliding off the belt that the flower is attached to.

Vjel - those bday party invites are so adorable. Wow! Really, they are awesome. You could probably sell some of your stuff online if you ever wanted extra money.
I noticed the eyelets once you pointed them out. Like I said, I'm not crafty so bare with me, please. How is the bottom of the pocket held together? I think I'm going to try and make a pocket like yours in my nursery colors, and then use my stamp on the pull out portion of the invite and color it similiar to what l'il bit did. Our nursery is pink, green, and yellow, and the bedding has stripes and circles so I think I can really make something cute with your design (and l'il bits).
Where did you buy such cute cardstock? We have a few places that sell cardstock around here, but for the most part it's plain or not cute! Thanks again!
tgoody, I used Terrifically Tacky tape (from Michaels) to make sure the bottom edges of the pocket didn't open up (underneath the eyelets is what I am assuming you are asking about). The tape was just the right width for me. I think you could use double sided tape also (maybe cut in half). I didn't need to use much tape at all.
There are a couple scrapbooking stores around here that I go to when I need supplies for cards or invites. The usual craft stores don't offer the selection that scrapbooking stores do. If you don't have any around you, try looking online. HTH!

I love your wedding cards. Very nice. Did you use die cuts and emblishments, or is there a stamp somewhere on there? Just wondering because I haven't done much card making or stamping so I can never tell. Very nice job, though. I would have loved to receive a handmade card for my wedding!

thanks!
the slip of paper on the side, i stamped and embossed using road tracks and a leaf (stamped with versamark and embossed with silver). the "cake" i cut out free hand from paper that has a 3-D pattern on it. the flowers i used a little punch and then glued rhinestones on them. the purple is a piece of vellum.

Hi All! I wanted to drop off pictures of my baby shower invitations. My friends and I made them. I asked for sample uses of some Stampin Up stamps a while back, and got a few replies. I want to thank Vjel and L'il Bit for their ideas and help - so thank you! I received quite a few compliments on the invites, so I hope you like as well. I couldn't tell if people were just saying they liked the invites to be nice or what. Although, why would they mention it if they didn't like them?
Anyway, each invitation was different ... color combination of cardstock was different, the stamp colors were different, ribbon color, etc. When you pulled out the little cards from the pockets and turned them over, you would see the party info and the directions to the party. The invitation is sitting on a pink matte ... the invitation was framed and people signed around it on the signing board. I'll keep the invitation in there until we have pictures of the baby once she is born ... and then maybe then I'll still keep the invite in there b/c it looks cute framed. Plus, it's a nice momento.
By the way, BryantRN, I really like your cards. Very cool! I haven't ventured into the card making yet - just a beginner - but I intend to make some soon. Do you also use Stampin Up stuff?

Tgoody your invites are adorable!! Such a cute idea to frame them. Thanks for the compliment on my cards. I don't use any Stampin Up products currently, but do get some inspirations from their mags. You will be a natural at card making:).
~Renee~
tgoody03 that is too cute, I love them!!
since the arrival of my little Liam I'm not sure when I'll get back to doing any stamping so I may be selling what I have. If anyone here is interested first I'll give priority before sending them off to eBay. I have some embossing powder and the embossing heat-gun, paper cut and uncut I have embossing ink pad, 3 complete box sets of ink pads the full size a few paper punches and then about8-9 stamp sets. I'll have to pull them out to write out the names as well as some stamps that I bought from michaels, the tool set to put in brads and a few stencils to make embossing by rubbing the paper and raising it. I'll try to make up a more complete list but wanted to see if anyone would be interested first? thanks

Sunshine - Hi! I'm new to card making also. I'm not very creative, but there is some good stuff in this link. To bad this thread isn't very active. We need to keep it going. Post some of your cards if you have any!
BryantRN - Thanks for the compliments. I like the Stampin Up stuff ... my friends and I go to a Stampin Up night every other month. It's a fun time to get together. I'm glad you think I'll be a natural, but my problem is that I'm not very creative. I wish I were. Hopefully we can keep this thread going so people can give me some good ideas.
klav - I'm interested in your stuff also. Send me a PM and I'll give ou my email address and you can send me a list of things you have and prices. Thanks!
tgoody, great job on your invites!!!
Do you or sunshine have scrapbooking stores near you? They usually offer cardmaking classes there. My sister just took one a couple weeks ago and is HOOKED! She went a little nuts though and bought at least a couple hundred dollars worth of supplies (ie. paper, ribbon, templates, etc.) but she has made like 20 cards since then, she can't stop. lol Maybe I should get her to bring her cards over again so I can take pics of them for you guys...since I haven't made anything since my last post. :o
Also wanted to add that if you have a Michael's near you they have dollar stamps and ribbon that could kick start your collection.

L'il Bit - That's great! I hope you do well with the new job. Here's an idea - I go to a thing called "club" once every 2 months. Basically, instead of us having parties, our Stampin' Up lady just has a night that we all get together at her house. We usually make 2 cards and it's free ... but we are "required" to buy $25 worth of stuff ... we all usually buy much more. It's fun for us b/c the girls get together, have craft night, and buy a few items. She allows a different girl to be "hostess" at each club so that we all get hostess benefits. It works really well and nobody feels pressure to have a party. This way, we don't have to have a party but she still gets to sell stuff. I've brought 3 friends who are now regulars at club.
Klav - I don't know how posting stuff for sale works, but I'm not opposed to you listing it. If you decide not to, PM and I'll send you my email.
Westamp - Thanks for the tip!
Endymion & BryantRN - post away! Give me some inspiration :)

Thats great endymion411 - I love the colors you used! It really does look complicated, and this Iris folding has always intriqued me! So I had to google it and found some great information. Does anyone know how it got its name?? I will post the answer below in case someone would like to guess. :D (just run your mouse over)
Answer here: It comes from the 'Iris' in a camera lens - many layers of lenses opening and closing
Here is a good site to explain and show examples - http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/resources/iristwist.php
Cant wait to see more of your examples endymion411. Where do you get your patterns?

08-12-2006, 12:56 PM
thanks ladies!
the website posted shows really well the process of doing it. it adds some extra steps that i don't do, though. for example, when folding the strips, the site says to glue them shut. i don't do that. and instead of using glue on the project, i just tape the strips down with regular tape---this way it stays in place instantly and it's eliminates the glue mess!
i use scrap papers, cut them into strips on my trimmer. i fold them in half, put my shape over the pattern and tape the strips down. easy as that.
will post more when i get a chance.
(p.s. i just realized that the thread is about rubber stamping in relation to cards, so i hope you don't mind that i'm posting non-rubber stamped stuff also. i actually just did a watercolor one this afternoon that i'll have to remember to take a pic of when it's done)

vjel: The pinwheel isn't hard at all! Just a little tedious.
This particular one is a 1.5"x1.5" square using double sided paper. You can do whatever size you want, as long as it's square. Cut diagonally into the middle without actually cutting the middle. Using some glue dots, glue every other corner into the middle.
Do those instructions make sense? Because I just read them back and I'm not sure that they do, but I don't know how else to explain it.

I require 10 people for 10 months to spend $22.50 since the minimum hostess benefit here is $225. Or, I can have 7 people for 7 months for $35. Just as long as everyone gets a chance to share in the hostess benefits. Stamp club get togethers are once a month, but not mandatory, and I do two demos at them and then people can work on their projects using all my stuff.

L'il Bit - I guess our stampin up lady doesn't require that many people because we always buy more than the "required" amount ... of I guess if we don't spend enough, the hostess doesn't get a gift and will then be the hostess the next month. Maybe you could do it that way so you can get going with your club and start making money! :)
Here are two cards that we made in club ... the first is "Best of Cluck" and the second is "Happy Birthday" (from the new catalog) ... bear in mind, I'm not really good at stamping yet, so most of the other girls cards looked better than mine.
The "Best of Cluck" card used the "shaving cream" technique, which is the brown part on the yellow card. Also, the chicken is colored in with those cool colored pencils that you can smear with that special pen (as you can tell, i'm not very technical when it comes to card making lingo!) LOL!

Hi,
Just starting to get into stamping... I hosted a Stampin' Up party on the 19th and my party was a huge success. I now have 11 different colors of paper, 9 stamp sets, 8 ink pads, 3 Stampin' Write markers, two ribbons and various sets of note/greeting cards with envelopes.
So, my question... How do I organize my paper? ;)
Some of the colors are similar...like I have Cool Carribean and Tempting Turquoise. I also have Yoyo Yellow and Barely Banana. I want them out of the packages, but I don't want them to get disorganized. So, what's your system?
lml, welcome to cardmaking! :)
I have this (http://store.scrapbooking-warehouse.com/297509.html) for paper and other cardmaking supplies. But I got mine at Costco for $20.
You can also get something simple like this (http://store.scrapbooking-warehouse.com/283100.html).
There's a bunch of paper organizers at Scrapbooking Warehouse.com (http://store.scrapbooking-warehouse.com/cropperhopper.html). I bet you could find similar stuff in office supply stores or even at Target.
tgoody and bryantRN, nice cards. :)

I started out with one of those paper organizers, but my cardstock collection got too big. So now I've purchased some of those cheap magazine holders from Ikea, and have them all in their colour families in the holders.

I bought some wire cubes at Target and used zip ties to make some of the "sides" that come with the cubes into shelves.
This is my paper closet:
http://images.splitcoaststampers.com/data/gallery/789/paper_by_trefoil.jpg
I used to use vertical storage, but was having a bit of trouble keeping things organized that way. I have no natural tendencies toward organization, I'm afraid.

I have a question about technique and tools...
I am making DD's birthday invitations. I want to do something similar to this card (http://catalogs.shoplocal.com/stampinup/index.aspx?pagename=moreinfo&circularid=8778&pagenumber=185&uniqueid=7211382&storeid=1038724) with the pull out card and the envelope it goes inside.
So, my question is...how do I make the envelope? Do I take one of my mailing envelopes and use it as a template (cutting it down a little bit, though)? Should I have bought an envelope template?
Also, do my measurements sound right?
The mailing envelope is 4 1/8 x 9 1/2.
The card envelope would be 3 7/8 x 9.
The actual card you pull out would be 3 3/4 x 9.
lml, can you clarify some things? when you say you bought envelopes to use, do you mean envelopes in which to mail the invites in? Is your final invite size going to be 4x9 (pull out card + the pocket it goes into)?
that invite will be adorable!
I made a similar invite (http://www.constantchatter.com/forum/showpost.php?p=721224&postcount=249) for a friend's baby shower, but the size of mine was about 4.25x5.5. This (http://www.constantchatter.com/forum/showpost.php?p=729483&postcount=254) is how I made the pocket.
lml41981
08-31-2006, 01:49 PM
Sorry, vjel... I edited to clarify and it got crossed with your post. Yes, I meant I bought mailing envelopes.
My invitation will be 3 7/8 x 9. Then, the card that will go inside that will be a little smaller width.
I think I figured it out... I ended up taking a mailing envelope apart and measuring and folding it to sort of make a template to use. I think I need to go get something heavier to use as a template and also get a cutting mat and an Xacto knife or something.
(this is easier when the demonstrator measures and cuts everything for you! :p )
lml41981
08-31-2006, 02:13 PM
vjel, did your card fit in large Stampin' Up envelope (size 4 3/4 x 6 1/2)? If so (and if I can exchange my mailing envelopes), would you mind if I copied your pocket? I think your pocket looks much neater and clean than mine will...
Don't use an exacto knife, that would be a total PIA! invest in a paper cutter of some sort, it will make life easier!
for the invite you posted, how does the pocket fold up (to become the envelope for the invite)?
Also, do my measurements sound right?
The mailing envelope is 4 1/8 x 9 1/2.
The card envelope would be 3 7/8 x 9.
The actual card you pull out would be 3 3/4 x 9.
I would do one practice invite first before making a final decision on measurements. I think your card invite could be 4x9 and the actual invite could be 3 3/4 x 8 3/4. I think it depends how your card envelope is going to be put together (how is it going to be held together, double sided tape?). I think the invite part will need to be a smidge smaller (I usually do 1/4 inch smaller) in order to slide in and out of the envelope easily.
ok, I hope I have not thoroughly confused you! And please, someone else jump in if they have an easier way of explaining and doing this, lol.
ETA your other question:
vjel, did your card fit in large Stampin' Up envelope (size 4 3/4 x 6 1/2)? If so (and if I can exchange my mailing envelopes), would you mind if I copied your pocket? I think your pocket looks much neater and clean than mine will...
my envelope was 4 3/8 x 5 3/4 (standard invite envelopes) so it should fit the Stampin' Up envelope. And no, I don't mind at all if you use my pocket idea (I'm sure I got the idea from somewhere else anyway ;) ). When I have a chance tonight, I'll PM you a better picture of the invite and try to give more detailed instructions.

Ok, I made a rough draft (which I'm not going to post because it is *really* rough).
I think I am going to keep my envelopes because the way I have it done, it looks kind of like the folder you'd get airline tickets in. Since we're doing a luau, I think it will look kind of neat. My design will go lengthwise instead of up and down
I held the inside envelope together with Stampin' Up's two-way glue pen...which I'm not too impressed with for this purpose. I need something that will hold it a bit better. It keeps pulling up, as did my tape pen.
By the way, other than the stuff I made at the demonstrations, this is my first project...so please pardon the stupid questions. ;)
ooh, i like your folder idea better! I was going to suggest Terrifically Tacky tape (from Michael's), that stuff is strong! They have varying width tape, I think the thinnest one would suit your purpose well. That is what I used to hold my pocket invite together. And you don't need to use a whole strip of it either, just use 1/4-1/2 inch piece at the top, middle and bottom of what you want to hold together.
trefoil

Definitely don't use the two-way glue pen for adhering sides of an envelope. This stuff works great for this type of purpose: http://catalogs.shoplocal.com/stampinup/index.aspx?pagename=moreinfo&circularid=8778&pagenumber=228&uniqueid=7217109&storeid=1038724
I know it is also sold in your local stores, but don't know the name (maybe vjel and I are talking about the same stuff :) ).

Yah, the two way glue is definitely not good enough for that. Has anyone tried the new Greeting Glue by Stampin' Up? It's supposed to be formulated for envelopes, but I have been using Sticky Strip (which is pretty much the same at the Tacky Tape).

I haven't tried the Greeting Glue, but I don't think it is for the same purpose as the Sticky Strip. The Greeting Glue is if you want to make envelopes that you have to lick (or otherwise moisten) to adhere. Greeting Glue is the stuff SU! sells to make that little strip.

My mom is coming by today, so I think she and I will go to Hobby Lobby or Micheals and pick up some Tacky Tape. I saw that suggestion last night after I had gone to get a different glue. =P
The glue I got did work pretty well, I think. I guess the real measure is if the pockets are still all glued this morning. I would glue them and then stick them in a book.
I got all my pockets cut last night (32 pockets, total). Now, I need to score, fold and glue/tape them. By the way, the Cutter Bee bugs that have a perforator, cutter and scorer suck. Also, the $19.95 Fiskars cutter sucks. It is too easy to flex and bend, thus developing a non-straight cut. Unfortunately, I've started one-too-many hobbies and not continued them, so DH said I have to prove myself worthy of a better cutter.

okay ladies, i need some help with a project...
i have been doing some cards, scrapbooks, etc for a local hospice to give out to their clients. the woman from the hospice called me and asked me to do a set of cards with an angel theme for their volunteers. this may seem like a silly question, but i'm completely confused about what type of angel shape/image to use for these cards (i didn't grow up with angels as a part of my spiritual beliefs)---are certain angel images more "christmas-y"/holiday than others? i've been trying to search for images for ideas and some seem very specific for christmas, some seem like what i would consider cupids/cherubs used for valentines, and some seem to look like fairies and i don't want to create a set of unusable cards, kwim? any thoughts/ideas?
thanks for the help!

Hi, I want to start this hobby, but I'm just wondering how much would you initially spend for all the paper cutters, tools, beads, paper, etc?
I caught my eye on the cricut http://wholesale.provocraft.com/images/products/cricut/cricut.machine.jpg which is on sale at scrapbook101.com for $225, but then you need all the extra cartidges and that starts adding up.
I'm just wondering how much you guys have invested for this type of hobby?
I only have a paper cutter and a corner rounder. a couple of stamps and some provo craft super paper pack, but I am trying to figure out if I should start buying punch outs and all the other goodies or go with the cricut. I just want to make some cards for people (birthdays, weddings, baby), maybe create some birthday invitations for my daughter. any suggestions?
gen, i have been eyeing the Cricut machine since i saw it at Michael's but I can't justify the cost of it. I bought a Quickutz hand tool off ebay last year and STILL haven't used it or bought die cuts for it. :o I prob would just start off small and see how you much you really get into card making before dropping the money on something like that.
My biggest expense is probably in paper and embellishments (ie. charms, ribbons, stickers). I have rubber stamps from when I first started out but I really don't use them anymore, I like more 3 dimensional looking things and then just use my computer to print sayings out. I think what you need really depends on the style of cards you like to make. If you have a scrapbooking store near you, they usually offer classes in card making. That would be good place to start and see how much you like it. My sister did this a couple months ago and spent a couple hundred dollars in paper and who knows what. She's since borrowed all my stamps, lol.
HTH!

You know an easier way to do those eyes would be to get a white gel pen and make them. Then take a black pen for the center of the eyes. It would save a ton of cutting out and it's super cheap. That's a really cute card!

I haved also eyed that tool, but there is no way that I could ever see myself spending that much. I own tons of stamps, but buy them all from the $1 bin at Michaels. I really enjoy finding random things to use for cards such as left over ribbon from a gift or have even cut out shapes from cards that I have received to make my own card. I think it is even more fun and creative to do it that way, and cheaper!! I think that my biggest expense has been paper and stamps. Michaels has really great sales and I find them to be much cheaper than the scrapbook stores:). Beware, once you start you will become addicted!!

Here are some of the Christmas cards I made this year. I always make a one of each, so that everyone gets a unique one, but this year I was lazy and a little pressed for time and stayed around a few different designs.

I have a project question. I am wanting to make an altered frame gift for a friend's baby shower. Anyone ever made one? I have been looking online for some guidance and inspiration and have come up empty handed. Anyone have pics to share or advice? Thanks.
~Renee~
Renee, There are a bunch of pics on Two Peas (I just did a search for altered frames).
http://twopeasinabucket.kaboose.com/pg.asp?gallery=1
I've not done one but I imagine it's similar to doing any kind of altered project. And from what I've read, you could use Modge Podge glue(seen it at Michael's) to adhere your paper to the frame and then put more Modge Podge on top of the paper to "seal it" (using a foam brush). Then glue whatever other embellishments you want to add. You could use rub-ons as well but if you do that I imagine it would be best to put that on before sealing w/ Modge Podge. HTH! :)

03-29-2007, 10:42 AM
Thanks Vjel. I have heard of modge podge but never worked with it. I have some questions about how I should cut the papers. I would like the paper to cover the entire surface. Just curious if anyone has seen an instruction page on how to do it.
Here is a pic that I got from somewhere, can't give credit so I apologize if anyone recognizes it.
http://farm1.static.flickr.com/167/438838960_784e98a258.jpg?v=0
~Renee~
My guess is that you can put the frame face down on your paper and cut it out w/ an exacto knife OR trace the frame on your paper and then cut it out that way??? Can't think of any other way to do it but every altered frame I've seen, the lines of the frame/paper are SO neat and clean!
I was just trying to figure this out myself. I'm thinking of making these as favors for my dd's party now. :) thanks for the idea!!!

03-29-2007, 09:54 PM
One way I've done it is to cut out the paper the same dimensions as the frame, and then cut out the center to fit. I put mod podge on the frame and put the paper over top, then used a sanding block to get at all the edges (I'm sure a soft nail file would do the trick too). Then when you've got the edges the way you want them, put mod podge over the whole thing to seal.

03-30-2007, 02:48 PM

All you have to do is mention the entry on their blog and purchase 1 Amuse stamp to get the discounted pad. I've looked everywhere for this pad and Amuse sells it the cheapest (It's $9 retail).
Read the blog for an explanation of what this pad does. I already placed an order so I'm anxiously waiting for this baby!:D

Hi ladies! I'm totally subscribing!! You've inspired me to call the local scrapbooking store to get a schedule of their classes. I'm going to go to the store tomorrow. They offer a 5 for $5 cardmaking class but it's not until the end of May. They have it once per month.
In the mean time i think i'm crafy enough to figure out a lot of this and i was hoping you could help me with some inspriation. I am hosting a retirement party for my mom at a german winery, serving german food, and having a german polka band play. (notice the theme?) Any idea inpiration for invitations? The party is at the beginning of July so i want to get invites out by the end of May and it only gives me 1 month. I need about 25 invites and i'd love to make them. I already have a TON of supplies but not necessarily card making supplies. I actually have a newly designated craft area!!

if i'm using pre-folded cards as my base, i'll usually buy the envelopes that go with them. if i'm starting from scratch, i'll size it to fit envelopes i already have around, or if i have a very specific idea in mind, i'll make my own envelope to fit!

If I'm mass producing cards for a gift, I used envelopes from Office Depot. If I'm sending a card, I make my own envies using old gift wrap (yes I recycle!), calendars and even scrapbook paper (if it's a big card, I need a big piece of paper!).

OK ladies, I need inspiration. A friend of mine just got engaged, and I really want to make a card for her, but I'm drawing blanks. She's a really fun, crazy kind of gal, so I don't really want to do anything "serious" or anything (don't know if that makes sense...I guess I want more fun, light-hearted, "woo hoo you're engaged" kinda thing). I browsed Hobby Lobby and AC Moore yesterday, but didn't see anything particularly inspiring - everything seemed more like the kind of card I would give them for the actual wedding, you know? Any ideas or suggestions would be fabulous, and I know you ladies are great at this stuff so it was the first place I thought to ask!!
Also, anyone making Mother's Day cards? I'm kinda drawing blanks there, too, especially for my grandmother. I'd also like to make one for my sister - it's her 1st Mother's Day and I'd like to give her one she can keep. Maybe I'm just overwhelmed with a new job, but my creative juices are just NOT flowing these days!!

I'm new to card making-- just made my first batch this weekend, actually. I haven't invested in a ton of supplies yet, mostly just paper, ribbon, adhesive (spray and dots), a paper cutter and some simple embellishments right now. I definitely want to get some punches and some more stamps and practice using them.
Just wanted to bump this thread up for more suggestions and photos. I'm finding all the tips and pictures here really helpful!
Questions:
1. Where do you get your card stock and do you buy it pre-folded or not?
2. What's the trick to getting stamps to not smear/smudge?
3. Do you have a very favorite card making tool that you'd recommend investing in?

Very nice, Rosebud!
1. Where do you get your card stock and do you buy it pre-folded or not?
2. What's the trick to getting stamps to not smear/smudge?
3. Do you have a very favorite card making tool that you'd recommend investing in?
1. I am a Stampin' Up Demonstrator, so I order it from there. The cardstock is nice and thick, and I can use it for scrapbooking too. Finding a good scrapbooking store wouldn't be a bad idea either if you don't know any demonstrators.
2. Make sure that you're stamping straight down and lifting straight up. If you are using good quality paper too, it shouldn't smudge too much. And some of the nicer inks will dry pretty quick as well. You can use a heat gun to set it if you don't want to wait.
3. Oooh, so many! If you don't get the pre-scored cards, invest in either a scoring blade or bone folder. Makes life easier, and you're not limited to just white or ivory as the base for your card. And if you're into rubber stamping, a good cleaner.
HTH!

So far I've just gotten cardstock from Michael's and Paper Source. I know there's a dedicated scrapbooking store in town as well, so I'll check that out.

Thanks for the tips!

My best investments ever when it comes to paper crafts:
Bone folder
Good quality metal ruler
Good knives with exchangable blades
Other than paper and glue, this is really all you need to make beautiful cards. Everything else I consider to be a bonus.
Your cards are beautiful Rosebud, you have mixed papers and colours very well.

2. What's the trick to getting stamps to not smear/smudge? like others have said, just straight down and back up, once mine is firmly down I do rock it just a little to get the edges really well
3. Do you have a very favorite card making tool that you'd recommend investing in? different paper designs, I love paper, I have huge totes of it, I also love my tool kit:

I've googled and yahoo!ed and I still can't find an answer:
What's the best way to rubber stamp on satin ribbon?
I want to do something special for my wedding thank yous. I bought ribbon that matches the paper I used for my invitations. It's 1.5" wide.
I wanted to stamp maybe a metallic (or solid) Thank You stamp on it and run it vertically (using double stick tape) on my cards.
However, I have a limited amount (and don't know if I have time to order more), so I want to eliminate too much experimenting.
Is there a technique and/or special ink?
Thanks! I'll post results :)

FoxyBlue: Try StazOn... it's not like the regular inks that you can buy, it doesn't run, and it's fast drying. The only thing is it will dye your stamps, so make sure you get StazOn cleaner, and not just use your regular cleaner.

thanks Disney, I have just been playing around. I bought a stack of plain cardstock a stack of patern cardstock as well as a few patterned single sheets of paper. Then I picked up just a few decorative things and a Thank You stamp to start. We'll see how it goes from there.

Wow, this thread has been dead for awhile! I just got done making a sample invite for a birthday party being held at a restaurant called The Blue Owl. What'dya think? On the final invites i'm going to wrap the ribbon around to the back of the invite to avoid the fray on the end... how do you prevent ribbon from fraying?
Also, I feel like it's missing something...

Does anyone know where I can get a pair of scissors that will cut a bigger wave design? I can only find this small one but i really envisioned bigger bumps.
ellidew, it's cute! in terms of preventing ribbon fraying, I just run a lighter across the cut ends. just do quick, sweeping motions and don't get too close. the heat will seal the ends. there is also something called fray check you can use but I've never used it.
not sure about bigger wave design...buy maybe you could cut off a bit more of the end so more of the red card shows thru?
in terms of something missing...I dunno. Maybe just fix the placement of the owl or "celebrate". Or you could stamp either the owl or "celebrate" on separate solid cardstock, cut it out, matte it to another contrasting cardstock, and use a pop dot to attach to give it some more dimension? Does that even make sense?

oooh, good ideas vjel! I think i'll stamp Celebrate on a piece of green card stock and back it with the red cardstock and then attach it. That will add a little extra something to it and bring all the colors together. I want to leave the Blue Owl blue since we're eating at The Blue Owl ;) and I was thinking the same exact thing about cutting off more of the end to have more red show. Thanks for the help!

I can't see your card here at work - but another tip for fraying ribbon - just brush over the edge with a little bit of clear nail polish. Works like a charm. :D

Anyone know where I can get a stamp that has a pair of pears and the wording "A Perfect Pair"??? Or even if I could find a simple stamp with just the two pears.

BUMP!
Anyone want to share their hand made Christmas cards this year? I'm thinking of making some holiday cards that incorporate our wallet-sized family photos. We'll see what happens.:o

I make about 100 Christmas cards every year and I haven't even started yet!!! I've barely had time this year to stamo at all :(
fifibee, I also include wallet sized prints in every card. Sometimes I just lay them in the card and some times I put it in a frame; where I punch the corners of a rectangular piece of card stock then mount that inside the card.
So, I need some ideas. I'm thinking of doing some kind of snowflake or snowman design. The past few years cards included, snowflakes (but that was 5 years ago), Christmas tree, holly, reindeer...can't recall the others at the moment. I have a ton of blue cardstock though which is why I'm leaning towards another "snow" type card. I have a ton of snowman stamps so I think I'll have to make time to tinker around in the craftroom to see what I come up with.
Anyone else working on Christmas cards?

There are a few of us that stay late at work to do crafts in the kitchen one night a week and we've been working on our Christmas cards for the past month. I just finished mine up. I used an ornament stamp that I had and embossed it with "snowflake" embossing powder. It's white power with a little bit of sparkle in it. I'm generally pretty happy with how they came out. I'll have to take a picture to post.

I just finished my limited edition 1/2 dozen cards. It's taken me longer than in previous years. Maybe because I bypassed stamping in favor of Iris folding. Iris folding took awhile with the cutting and gluing. The only thing stamped is the inside greeting. Yes we do include wallet sized photos but I don't do anything fancy with them. Just put them inside the cards.
I've gotten lazy. :(

Lolly ~ That's a great idea to just use a punch and mount the wallet size pic into that. I actually bought photo corners and found it quite unnecessary as I finished up my "simply decorated" cards this year.

I got very lazy this year and just bought some pre-made cards from the store and decorated with whatever I came up with. The most time-consuming thing was probably the strips of "Happy Holidays" that I had to cut. Here they are:

I hope to see some of what you talented ladies come up with this year.

Hi ladies, I was wondering what type of paper trimmer you prefer for your work. I am actually working on a scrapbook, but I decided that I need a new paper trimmer and I don't know if I want a rotary one or a guillotine one. Thanks for your input!

I have had several different kinds, but mostly prefer my Fiskars easy-release blade rotary trimmer. Very easy to change out between scoring and cutting blades, and is very consistent in the cuts/holding the paper in place.
