I'm getting frustrated with my weight, once again, and am working to get it off. I have quite a lot to lose, so it can be rather intimidating. Just wondered if others out there have a lot they are trying to lose and would like to chat.

i'll join :o
I can feel your pain. i've been doing the weightloss challenges to help keep me motivated. but it is kind of intimidating when most people there want to lose 10-15 pounds, and I need to lose 50-75 pounds just to be considered overweight instead of obese :(

I have 200 pounds to lose. I'm not afraid to say it! I currently weight 344. I started Weight Watchers 2 weeks ago at 352. I want to be at goal weight (150) by 7/2008 (my 31st birthday).
It is hard to stay motivated when you have so far to go! I have a friend I met here on CC that I email with every day, she has a similar amount to lose and does weight watchers too. Having a buddy is really helping.
Ultimately you just have to be ready. Thinking about being that thin, actually terrifies me. But I am recognizing that and trying to get to the bottom of why I have needed to be this heavy.

Hi all, I am the friend Etolie is speaking of! I have about 150 to lose. I have to say that daily emails really help. I have been sick this week and one of the first things I thought about after calling into work was that I was letting Sara down by not emailing :( It totally helps!

Hello, Everyone! At my heaviest I was 280lbs... I've lost about 75lbs so far putting me at 205lbs. My Goal is to be about 115lbs by May of next year. So, I've got about 90 more lbs~ Its gonna be hard but I know I'll do it. It's nice to see others here in a similar situation.
Nice to meet you all~ ;)

More replies!! I am so ready to be thin, but I just have such a problem staying motivated. I have tried so many things, and I always fall off the wagon. I'm going after it again, though. I know WW works for me as well, so that's what I stick with although I don't really go to meetings right now. I know the plan well.
Any support you ladies have to offer is most appreciated, and I will give back any way possible! MES in Chicago - I live in Rockford!

I'd be happy to join you ladies after our daughter is born.
After my son was born last year, I lost (including baby weight gain) about 40 pounds prior to getting pregnant again. So, now here I am pregnant again and watching the scale inch up. But, I'm still at about my starting weight with my DS, so I'm not feeling defeated. If I only gain another 10 pounds, I know I'll weigh LESS leaving the hospital than I did when I got pregnant with him (or at least I hope, last time, I lost at least 10 pounds - baby, placenta, etc).
As for what I'd like to lose? Well, I'd love to be down to 200 again. Though, 225 sounds pretty good too - maybe I'll aim for that by Christmas? When I was around 175-180, imo (and everyone else who knew me) thought I looked great. I haven't been below that weight since middle school. In middle school, I weight 140 in 8th grade and in pictures, I look like a bobble head. I have a thick bone structure, so maybe I'm just not meant to be that small. At any rate, I think my first "big" goal will be 225. Of course, I'll have smaller goals in there as well - (5-10 pounds, by X date).
I hope to be breast feeding, so I'm not going to go on a hard core diet - instead, I'll just focus on eating well and cutting out the bad carbs (again). Sort of a modified SBD, with fruits. :) No potatoes, white bread, SUGAR, etc. But, I'll eat whole grains, lean meats, lots of veggies and fruit. Hopefully, that will be enough to help in the weight loss. In addition, I hope to be able to incorporate some exercise into my daily activities.
So, for now, I'll be cheering you ladies on. Come August, I'll join you. :)

i've been exercising and trying to eat better for a couple of months now. i seem to do really well for a couple of days/weeks and then fall off the wagon exercising.
i've lost about 4-5 pounds since the beginning, but i just seem to yo-yo in that range. at least i'm still less than when i started.
how can is stay motivated? it's just so easy to fall into the "i'm too tired to exersise" trap.
i think my problem is i've been through this before. i have lost a lot of weight on more than one occasion. I always tell myself i will never let myself go again, but i always end up gaining it back. sometimes i think i've resigned myself that i'm always going to be fat, so what's the point in trying
i'm trying to change my attitude, that i'm not doing this to be skinny, but to make myself healthier. and so i can do the physical things i enjoy without being out of breath or in pain.
hopefully we can be an inspiration to each other on this journey were are taking.

Just a place where we can meet and talk and have to ourselves, and I am trying to plan some challenges and stuff for some sort of motivation. Come on over and join if you are interested! (Not to say I won't be chatting in here, because I certainly will!)
I am so bad about the exercise motivation, Colleenjoy. Just this morning I "meant to get up and exercise, and talked myself out of it. Didn't manage to talk myself out of the 3 brownies I ate when we had company over, though. :o Tomorrow is another day.

Hi everyone! I'm currently weighing in around 230. I'd love to be anywhere under 150. I also have a hard time staying motivated. DH and I were just talking about setting up an excercise routine that we can do togeather to help motivate each other.
We've been eating healthier (lean meats, lots of veggies and salads). Dh wants to try Adkins since he lost a lot of weight on it before. Obviously it didnt' really work out for his as he's the heaviest he's ever been right now. Also we are TTC and I don't think that drastic of a diet would be good for my body. He is just always looking for the quick fixes and hates to exercise. So we are working on that.
Tiff ~ Thats a great idea about setting up an actual challenge. I'm really only on LJ only to check out some buddies journals so I'm not really that familar with the format. I think its a great idea to set it up as an actual challenge where we all check weekly with our losses/gains. Something like that. :D

Me! I have about about 125 to lose. I'm miserable and have been for a long time. I weigh about 25 more than I did on my wedding day on 10/16/04. In October, DH and I are flying from Tucson to PA to attend his sister's wedding. Not only do I want to look good when I meet most of his family, but I also want to sit comfortably during that long flight. I will be more than miserable if I don't lose weight for that trip.
I have been overweight my entire life - well, since 2nd grade. I want to be healthy and in control. I'm heading for a life of diabetes if I can't get this under control.
I'll see if I can get myself registered on LJ.
Glad you all are here.

I have around 150 to lose, and like many of you, I have been heavy my whole life. Right now, I am in the process of getting my preoperative clearances for gastric Bypass Surgery (Roux En Y)... I've been to my surgeon's orientation, a consult with him, the psychologist, pulmonologist, today was the cardiologist, I'm getting an echocardiogram next week... a bariatric class and finally the nutritionist. Phew, it's a lot of hoops to go through, and I am quite nervous about it, but I am going to do it. Probably in the end of the summer, after all the hoops, we get approval from the insurance company and then schedule surgery. Eeeeeeeee! I can't wait to lose the weight.
I saw you mention LJ, we (some of my friends and some of their friends) have a group over there too... if you know anyone in the group - or anyone on our friends lists, you are welcome to apply. It's kind of a weird group name, we came up with it one day, while bitching about Lane Bryant. The group isn't 100+ or about weight loss surgery, but I feel safe saying that you guys would be comfortable there.

Hi girls, I too have a lot of weight to lose. I started Jenny Craig One month ago today ( I have my weigh-in in a couple of hours) My starting weight was 259.6lbs..The heaviest I've ever been. Over the past three weeks I've lost 10.5lbs and hopefully some more once I've weighed in. I would like to be around 160 but I started my goal at something realistic, 60lbs. It would mean the world to me if I can be under 200lbs. So far I've been doing really great on jenny. I love the food and it's so easy not to have to go get lunch or make dinner, it's right there waiting for me. At first I felt like i was starving but I learned some tricks on how to fill myself up with free foods. My cravings have not disappeared but they have changed. I used to crave McDonalds french fries but now it's just a potatoe/salt. Ice Cream, now I just want something sweet. Any one else on Jenny?

Hello everyone,
I would love to join the LJ site to get and give encouragement on losing weight!! My ideal goal is to lose 120 lbs. I have always been overweight, so I can't even imagine losing that much. Last year, my DH decided to go on a diet and lost 200 lbs. by working out a lot and eating less starch/sugar and more protein. That entire time I didn't lose anything, probably because I was eating what he was, but then wasn't working out, plus I ate dessert and other bad snacks. You think I would have been smart and joined him! So now I feel like a loser (not a good loser) since he looks awesome and I look terrible. I don't know what it will take for me to change my habits, but I better do it soon. If not I'm afraid I'll get diabetes or have a heart attack especially with my family history.

May I be so bold to ask about cost for JC meals? I've always been interested, but I talk myself out of it because of the anticipated high cost of the food. Also, could someone do this without a separate freezer? My freezer space is limited.
Goodies
06-15-2006, 03:38 PM
Cost wise It's about $100 a week (a full 7 day week) which includes 3 meals and 3 snacks each day. It might seem like it's a lot but I was spending $10 a day just on lunch not to mention dinners out, trips to coldstone/baskin robins, and donuts/muffins. So for me I'm actually saving money.
If you're on a budget you can get more pantry items they are less expensive.
All my Jenny food for the week fits in my normal sidebyside freezer. I have plenty of room left over :D

Okay, ladies. I've decided that it's high time to do something about the way that I look and feel.
We've been TTC since October, and with no luck. I've decided that maybe it has to do with the fact that I'm only 5'4 and waaaayyyy overweight. I would loooovvveeee to lose 140 lbs. But, to be fair with myself, and give myself a reasonable goal, I'm setting it at 80 lbs first. I know that's still alot, but I need it in a bad way.
Plus, I'm supposed to be in a wedding a year from now, and don't want to be the only bridesmaid that looks like a cow in her dress.
DH and I tried the low carb diet, and I HATED IT. He lost about 30lbs, but also does alot of manual labor. I lost about ten, then started losing my self control. Which seems to happen to me often.
I'm not quite sure what I'll be doing diet wise. DH bought me a bike for my birthday last year, but I have only riden it like 10 times total. I'm hoping to gather the gumption to start riding that more, and walking. I enjoyed walking with my mom every night, but she up and moved on me. Now all I have is the dogs, because DH won't walk with me.
I'm also going to start a daily diary of what I eat, and keep track of the calories. I think that will keep me in check, and make me more aware of what I'm stuffing in my face all day long.
Anyway, my LJ id is travis_n_jessie, if you want to add me to your group. I'll be sure to accept the invitaion!
See you around ladies!

Hi everyone! Can I join you ladies?
I lost 110 lbs for our wedding and then gained about 30 lbs back. Got pregnant about 13 months into being married and then pregnant AGAIN 9 months after that.:D Now that I just had my son a month ago, I am getting back on the wagon. Between the 2 pregnancies I have gained that weight back. I would LOVE to be around 160. For our wedding I was 180/size 12 and I worked out 3 times a day for a year to get there.
With 2 kids under 18 months its not possible to work out 3 times a day but I am on the low carb diet and walking eveyday. As soon as I go for my 6 week checkup and get the OK I plan to tup the excersing.
Its so hard because I know what it takes to loose the weight and to know I let myself get to this heavy weight again kills me!
I am on LJ so I will deifnately join the 2 groups that were posted.
Linda, I think I have seen you around Amies WLS journal over on LJ. Hi!:D

OK, so I gained today but I was expecting it as I lost 6.2lbs last weeks since I had the stomach flu. Losing all that water weight it would have been virtually impossible to no gain. I set my expectations at a gain of 3lbs or less would be great. Well I only gained 2.4! So I am happy with that.

Colleen Great job on the working out!
I used to walk everyday for about 35 mins, then our daughter got the rotavirus and I hadnt started again. I got a little side tracked the last month because there were so many birthdays & celebrations... I did have bad food, but I did it in a way where I didnt gain any weight at least. I hope to see some kind of movement on the scale soon! I just went down a size in jeans last month (18) and now they are getting to big so I bought 2 pairs of sz 16 & they fit! I have to lose a little more weight before I can wear them but, its so exciting! Woo~

I've been a member of Curves since January. I had all good intentions of going 3 times a week (to get the maximum benefit) and needless to say I get there the majority of the time 2 times a week.
I think Curves is a great way to get started with exercise again, I hate exercising so being able to go in and workout for 30 minutes was great for me, no need to set machines to the correct weights because they use hydraulic resistance.
Just recently I signed up for an Aquatic Noodles & Barbell Workout class just to do something different for the summer. I really wanted the Aquatic Biking class because I thought it would help with my knees but the classes were filled, guess I need to be a quicker when decided to register for the class.
Good Luck!

I've tried but it is so hard, I am at my heaviest and I really hate but I feel like I need to starve myself to just lose an ounce. I've been working out at least 2 times week at Curves and haven't really lost anything there maybe a few inches but no pounds.
I'm seriously considering talking to the doctor about a thyroid problem, I learned my great-aunt had it and my father has a thyroid problem (which I knew about) so I see a pattern. My father has the over-active thyroid but I have the opposite. I was doing some research on it because my step-mom was telling me I should get checked out because I could be trying to lose weight and nothing will happen and I'd never know why. So in my research I found out I have some symptoms but most likely not enough to do anything about it so when I see my doctor next I will ask him about it.
DH & I are going to be TTCing in August and I worry how the weight will play in TTC. I figure if I work out and try to eat healthy I will be ok.

Hi everyone!!! I'm so excited to see so many people over here. I lost 3.5 lbs last week - yay me!
Regarding the LJ group - everyone who is a member should have posting access, and you can post away - meal plans, WI results, anything you want. If you want to make something easier to find later, you can add a tag to it and/or add it to memories. I'll post about it over there next. As for emails when someone posts - I really don't know if they can do that or not...but if you add our community to your friends list any new posts will show up there.
MrsJackson05, I shot you an invite over there!
Does anyone else still need to be added as a member that I might have missed? If so, could you go to our community (http://community.livejournal.com/journey2health/profile) and request to join so it will send me an email and I can add you? I want to make sure that everyone who wants to play with us gets in!
Congrats to EVERYONE, whether you have gained, lost, or don't yet know. Making this choice, and sticking with it even on frustrating weeks, is amazing and I hope you are all proud.

Just an FYI. It's always a great idea to have your thyroid tested. But, many of the thyroid problems can be the same as PCOS. Thinning hair, weight gain, etc. So, if your thyroid is fine, you might also ask for some blood work for pcos (provided you aren't on the pill, b/c that would mess with the results). Things that they can test for to rule out pcos - cholesterol, FSH, LH and testoterone. Those would all help going into ttc as well.

Linda,
Yep..18 months apart. :D Well, alot of me wanting to loose this wieght wuickly is because we want more children and I flat out refuse to get pregnant again at an unhealthy weight. So I am giving myself a year to get it off. I would probably be TTC again with in a month or so if I was at a healthy weight. :D
That said, yes my kids are reaally good sleepers Lily has STTN since coming hom from the NICU at 3 1/2 months and Nolan only gets up once to eat at night. Im lucky.
Delsol, Im gonnha 3rd that you should check for PCOS. Its worth a try.

I've struggled with my weight since I was a kid. But towards the end of college I got serious and started working out and doing the atkins diet. I dropped about 55 pounds. I felt great. When I got out of school my good habits stopped and my DH and I went through some really stressful events and we did a lot of emotional eating. I gained everything back and a ton more. On top of that I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism a few months ago and I'm trying to get that regulated. I would be happy to lose 100 but ideally it would be more like 130ish.
My DH and I have a membership at our local YMCA but we've been slacking on going. I'm hoping that I can get on track. :)

I don't know if your YMCA has a pool but the ones that are local to me do and if you like to do swimming they have some great aquatic exercise classes that you can take in the pool. It's low impact, which is great for me because I have problems with my knees.

When we signed up I got a little over anxious and signed up for classes every day of the week. Well life got in the way and we were out of town during the first week of classes and then I got sick. I missed the first two weeks and then didn't go :(
This session I'm going to start out slow and take 2 water classes and it will be 3 days a week. I'm going tonight to sign up for Aqua Attack and Aquafit. Did you do either of those? I'm going to get a bathing suit this weekend and be dedicated to go to them since it will be Saturday, Monday and Wednesday. Why do people think amking fun of weight is still acceptable? I mean overweight here, obviously, but I know some very thin people who get razzed too. Although I think I'd rather get made fun of for that...probably because I have never been thin enough people would mistake me for an eating disorder. An overeating disorder, yes, but still.

I can't believe I just came across this. I am currently 4 1/2 months pregnant but I would love to start losing once my baby is here in November.
My LJ name is Sare79 if I could be sent and invite, because I would like to be a supporter until then and be motivated by all of you.
A little about me- 5 years ago, I decided that I needed to lose some weight. I was 5'6 (still am) and 264 pounds. I got my weight down to 173 and I felt hot. It took one year to get my weight down and I did it through WW and exercise. It started with walking around the blocka nd increasing the time each day. Things happened in my life and the weight crept on and I got even heavier.
I got engaged in September 2005 and managed to drop about 25, but again the weight crept back on.
I got pregnant in March and my doctor and I have agreed to keep track of my weight. So far I have only gained 4 pounds, but I am keeping an eye on it.
My prediction is that by the time I have the baby, I will have aproximately 140 pounds to lose to where I want to be.

Ohh, so glad I found this thread! :)
I just re-joined WW 3 weeks ago with my DH, & I'm definitely looking for some support to try to keep me motivated this time around, because that is my biggest problem by far.
A little history:
I've been overweight since I was oh, maybe in 5th or 6th grade, I guess. I really never made any serious effort to loose weight until 2001 when I decided to join WW with my friend - I think that was my heaviest weight (290 lbs). I lost 60 lbs. in about a year, & while I was still a looong ways away from my ultimate goal, I was really feeling pretty good about myself. I even started dating, which I hadn't done much of for years. In fact, that summer I met my DH! :D
Then I lost my motivation, got tired of the program, tired of counting points, tired of not being able to eat what I wanted to eat, etc. Plus DH was really overweight too & he was not trying to lose, so it was a big adjustment for me to be with another person all of the time who wasn't following my program. Eventually DH decided to join WW with me, & he got really committed to it & dropped about 130 lbs! I, meanwhile, continued to struggle. Eventually we both stopped going to WW meetings, & over the past 2 years slowly we've both gained back a lot of weight.
Lately I've felt really bad about my weight - I've felt tired, fat, my feet hurt all the time, my clothes don't fit, etc. Finally we decided to go back to WW. While I was annoyed to see I'd gained back most of what I lost the first time on the program, a small part of me was glad that at least my starting weight was 6 lbs. ligher than it was last time! :p
Anyway, so it's been 3 weeks & so far I'm doing okay (lost 4 lbs. so far)...struggling a bit, but trying hard to stick with it. Tomorrow morning is WI, & since my period is about to start & I had some rough days this past week, I'm really not sure what to expect from the scale. We'll see.
Looking forward to chatting with you ladies! :)

Hey everyone, I got a link to this group from Jellybeany and I'm glad I stopped in :) Here is a bit about me, I need to lose like 140 pounds to be where I was just before I had my DD four years ago. I've never been all that small but finally trimmed down at the end of high school (of course I thought I was still fat then) I look at the pictures of back then and I want to be there again. I gained about 80 pounds with my DD then lost like 50 right before my wedding then since my wedding I've gained like another 80 pounds!!! I had another baby in there too, but I did really well and didn't gain any wieght while I was pregnant, but I gained after how stupid is that. I've had a really tough year with all that life stuff and I'm an emotional eater and well lets just say I looks quite terrible. I've tried so many times and failed so many times its just so hard! Sometimes I just feel like accepting the fact that I am fat and thats the way its going to be. Well I restarted (for the millionth time) a healthy lifestyle at the begining of this week. I've done really well with eating good food and my DH has been getting up early 3 times a week to walk with me (he is NOT a morning person so it means a lot to me that he is doing this for me). Right now my goal is to lose 50 pounds (hopefully more) by Christmas. My end goal is just so far out of site right now it makes it hard to stay motivated.
This week I lost 7 pounds!!! Yay!! I know its my first week so I can't expect it to stay at that rate, but it sure would be awsome if it could :)

Hey ladies!
I've had to add "diet" frozen entrees back into my diet for lunches (I get home from summer school at 1:30, so I needed something quick) and found a super YUMMY one! Thought I would share. It's Lean Cuisine's Southwest-Style Chicken (white meat!) Panini. I was totally surprised by how yummy it was. The chicken was ALL white meat as far I could tell and the bread was nice and soft (not hard like you would expect from a microwave) - the cheese offered a satisfying flavor. YUMMY! There are several more varieties to try. Here's a picture if you decide to look for it at the grocery store:

Calories: 280
Total Fat: 7
Total Carbs: 32

The next one I'm going to try is described as "Chicken Club Panini Grilled white meat chicken strips with crumbled bacon, tomatoes, cheese and ranch sauce on sourdough bread". Let me know what you think if you decide to try any of them!

Just catching up with this thread and hoping to join in!
I've got quite a bit of weight to lose - and am facing an exercise challenge - I tore my ACL and am having reconstructive surgery on it in a couple weeks (yikes!)...but I'm doing what I can now - and will post-surgery during rehab - about 10 pounds down right now - hopefully my good habits will continue and the surgery rehab will be the kick in the pants I need to recommitt to the gym (through PT first!) and to keep my legs/knees/and everything else strong!
Those LC panini are pretty good - my favorites are the chicken and mushroom ones. If you are looking for a lowfat cheesesteak experience - the beef and cheddar are pretty edible too (but I'm always iffy on LC beef - it's usually pretty tough).
Glad I found this thread!

Are the Short Cut workouts good? I am a little bummed because I think they only come in VHS. Im really trying to find a good workout for the overall body, I dont want to do walking type excercises since I walk on the treadmill every night.
Tiffany, you mentioned somethings about the WATP miles... is that all over body or just walking? The website really wasnt specific about the types of workouts for each video.

Great job on your 40 minutes of weights today, MES! :D
I was disappointed this morning to find out at WW that I gained .4 lbs. this week. :( I know it's not a big gain & I know I haven't been sticking to my points very well this week plus there was the holiday & all so I can't say I was surprised, but still it was disappointing.
This evening, however, I was sitting here watching a movie & after the movie ended I decided it was such a nice evening that I should go for a walk rather than sitting in front of the tv or on the computer for the rest of the night (DH is over at a friend's house). I drove down to my favorite park & got there just in time to watch the sun set over the lake as I walked. I had my iPod with me (walking with music always helps keep me motivated & pass the time). I walked for 30 minutes. I could have walked longer but it was starting to get dark so I decided to come home. But it felt good to get out & get some exercise & some fresh air...I had such a stressful week at work this past week that I didn't get out for walks during my lunch hour all week long.

I, too, gained a pound at last weigh-in, unfortunately. But, it was my birthday on top of 4th of July so I kind of expected it.
Two victories this week: I made the choice to meet up with a group of my friends AFTER dinner rather than joining them, so I wouldn't be tempted. Also, went to Country Buffet and actually made good choices! Ate 2 whole plates of plain veggies. :)

Oooh, can I join, too? I've got about 85 pounds to lose. I joined Curves about a month ago, but I often lack the motivation to go, so I've only lost 3 pounds so far. But I lost 1% of my body fat, so I'm excited about that, and it motivated me to keep going.
As of my last weight-in (last week) I'm at 234 lbs. I'd like to get down to around 145-150. My body fat is at 40.1%, and I'm trying to get to about 20%.

I figure it's been a while since I've checked in and gave my current stats. So far on just over two months of Jenny Craig. I've lost 19.5 lbs and 12.5 inches. I'm down two dress sizes and I feel great. It was really hard at first but now I don't miss my old eating habits. Everyone once in a while I'll have a strong In N out craving and I allow myself that.

I started to get some walking in.
yesterday I did 1 mile of Leslie Sansone's Walk Away the Pounds
Today I walked at least a mile and a half. From my house to highway 10. I should drive it to see exactly how far it is
Coming back was a hella hill...OY!

This was a good week. I lost 3.2lbs! For a total of 20.6lbs GONE!!! I am kind of suprised at the loss though. Last week was PMS week so I expected a nice loss of water weight, but not 3.2lbs. It has been so hot here that I did very little exercise and used all my flex points, but I am not going to argue with the scale. This makes me so excited because it just tells me I can do this and hopefully meet my goal of losing another 17lbs before we go to Jamaica....in 78 days! We are going to celebrate our 2nd anniversary and I will weigh less than I did the first time if I meet my goal.
Keep up the good work everyone and remember 1 day at a time!

Bumping for our new LJ challenge starting Friday! :)

Alright, let's say we make this thread a bit more active, eh? I have a hard time keeping up with lj journals, much less communities, but can probably find a few minutes to update here.
Anyways, after doing really well and getting down to pre-pregnancy weight, I found that over Labor Day weekend (my sis and bil brought Sees Candy with them!) I gained about 3 pounds back and it's still hanging around. So, I need to take those three pounds back off to be back to pre-pregnancy weight. In addition, I'd like to loose 21 pounds by the new year. The first 8 I would like to lose by Halloween.
So, with that, this week, I'm attempting to cut out the non diet drinks. Up my water intake. And get active.
Getting active is the hardest part for me. I've got a baby who likes to be held. She does okay in the swing, so I think I'll have to use that to my advantage. The eliptical is in the same room, so I should probably get my butt on that. The only problem is that the eliptical kicks my butt. I'm thinking I need to try a workout video. I've heard rave reviews about the Biggest Looser DVD, but was thinking maybe I need to start out a bit slower, like a Richard Simmons walk away the pounds type of video. Thoughts? What are you all doing for exercise? I'd love to just get out and push the stroller, but DD doesn't tolerate the stroller, for more than say, five minutes at a time. I'm hoping as she gets older she'll adapt, of course, then it will be cold and we'll have to go inside to walk.

Jennylou- I have the biggest loser DVD and found it to be excellent. It really is for everyone at all fitness levels. I was alternating programs each day and they really kept it fresh for me and I lost quite a bit while doing the video.
I plan to get back on the exercise wagon once I've had my baby in November. I've actually found that I have been wanting to get on the elliptical and do the videos!

I also have the Biggest Loser DVD. Although I have to admit that I've never actually done the workout. :o
But that's about to change. I joined Weight Watchers last night and am determined to eat right and start excersising.

I have the Biggest Loser DVD also. I started doing it over the summer but it was too warm in my non-air conditioned house ;) I really enjoyed it. It was a great work out in a relatively short amount of time. I definitely plan on getting back into it.

I am here to join as well.
After the initial 30 lbs of baby weight came off immediately, I am stalled and even inching on gaining again as I am getting increasingly stressed about having to go back to work and that means eating all the crap in our house. I keep saying I am at my pre-pregnancy weight, but really is my weight at my 10 week appointment - I have no idea how much I weighed when I got pregnant, but all I know is I gained 30 lbs in the six months between getting married and getting pregnant.
Right now I am at 215. I am hoping to get down to 184 by May which was what I was when I got married in May '05. But right now I would be so happy for the scale to say 199.8. Well actually I would be happy with 209.8.
Ultimately I want to be between 140 and 150. Technically 148 is supposed to be the upper limit for me according to WW. Really 132 would be perfect but I just don't see that ever happening again. I am going to do baby steps.
Speaking of baby. 184 is my goal for May for our 2-year anniversary cruise and after that we are going to be on to ttc #2 so my real goals will have to wait until 2008. But I will feel much better going into my next pregnancy in shape and feeling good - then I might actually do exercise while pregnant. This time I just sat on my butt for 9 months. Luckily I only gained 30 - I could have gained a lot more.
I have a lot of gym equipment at home - treadmill, bike and free weights. I do belong to a gym near my house, but for now I'll concentrate on doing stuff at home.
I ordered a bunch of DVDs the other night - including the Biggest Loser.
I have Richard Simmon's Sweating to the Oldies on VHS which I love but we only have 1 VCR in the house, not in the basement. So I got another one of his videos on DVD - not sure which one, which I think will be a better bet to start off with, in addition to walking slowly on the treadmill.
Like Jenny, I just have no idea when I am actually going to fit in exercise. My daughter's sleeping schedule is very unpredicatable during the day. And when DH gets home I just want to hand her off to get other things done around the house that I didn't get done during the day, just to keep the house running.
I go back to work in 5 weeks. As it is I am going to have to get up so early to pump and feed her and get ready and out the door by 7-7:30 so I can leave work at 4:30 to pick her up.
But I really need to make time in my day for exercise. While most of my life revolves around DD, I need to make time for myself. If I don't start doing that this early in her life, then I never will.

How is everyone doing? I've managed to work out on the eliptical for about 25 minutes on Friday night. On Monday, I walked at the mall. One trip around the mall is one mile and we walked more than one, but not quite two trips. I should get my butt moving and try to get some more done on the eliptical again.
I watched biggest loser tonight, that show is so inspiring. Maybe we should have a biggest loser competition, lol, we could break out into teams.

Hi all!
I'm doing OK. For any of you J2H members over on LJ, you know that I started well and really fell off the wagon. I'm OK right now, doing better but still not fully mentally with it.
As I explained there and maybe here, it is SO challenging for me to focus on this stuff while school is on, because school is so intense. If I am not VERY focused on my weight loss efforts, I tank.
I koined Curves, and I am STILL lax on going so I am challenging myself to keep it up. The thing is I am so truly busy that it is hard to carve out time to do ANYTHING, much less exercise. When I got to Curves, I really like it - it's just getting there. So I am working on forcing myself to make the time and get over there. Meanwhile, I'm working on getting my water intake back up to the level I had it at, and my food intake is getting better.
I gained back a lot of what I lost this summer, though not all, and I am pretty close to losing it all again. From there, I can move on to new losses. I believe I have about 4 lbs to go to hit that mark. I have a Curves goal of being down 25 by the end of November from where I started, and I am down about 8 so far from that. Then I have a J2H goal of being down...um...I think 8 or something from where I started with that, and I am down about 2 for THAT challenge.
All in all, I am teetering on the edge of being with it. I will continue to try and make this work.

All in all, I am teetering on the edge of being with it. I will continue to try and make this work. This describes me as well. Good for you for trying to stick with it, even though it is so hard to keep up the motivation, find the time, etc! Sounds like you've got some good, clear goals to work toward. You can do it! :)
For me, I re-joined WW at the beginning of June (DH did, too). It's been a slow process for me this time around, because I am just not focused, not truly committed. I don't know what my problem is, because I KNOW this program works for me if I make a reasonable effort. I just can't get my head into it this time, for some reason. :( Between June & the end of August I lost 7 lbs...but then I gained back half of that during our vacation in Hawaii. Today I weighed in & found that I've lost 2.2 lbs. of that though, so I'm trying to get back to where I was & then start moving forward again.
I really really really need to exercise too - I honestly haven't been doing hardly anything lately, not even going for walks during my lunch hour at work. I'm going to try to get back to doing at least that much in these next couple of weeks. Too bad I don't have anyone to walk with - that would help me, I think.

Hey all, can I join?
A little background on me, through highschool I was around 105 lbs, I suffered with an eating disorder from age 12 until 17. I gained 90 lbs with my first pregnancy (yep 90) maybe from the lack of food up until that point. After DS #1 I got back down to 150 still practically starving myself, once I finally got over my eating disorder I held steady at about 175, then got pregnant with #2 and only gained about 5 lbs during that pregnancy but afterward started gaining. As of last week I was at my heaviest at 226. So here I am, as of today, one day shy of one week I am at 218, so 8 lbs in a week, I can only hope it continues that fast although I know it won't. I have heard the more you have to lose the faster it comes off so I'm sure as I lose it will slow down. My mini goal is to get to 200 by thanksgiving. My biggest challenge is not falling back into old habits of purging or not eating at all. I am doing the slimfast for breakfast and lunch with a snack between and then a healthy dinner. I need to really work on getting active more though.

I am so pissed. This always happens to me. I got all my DVDs, I bought a new sports bra (to accomodate the pp boobs), I was all set to get moving and now I am sick. I have a horrible sore throat...what does one want to eat with a sore throat - ice cream....
I have been writing down what I eat (just not portion sizes yet) but it is helping.
At 213 now. Want to be at least 206 by Thanksgiving (I found out I was pregnant on Thanksgiving last year. Not exactly sure what I weighed on that day but previous to that 206 had been the highest weight I had been).

I am recommitting to really work hard at weight loss! I've been hovering around 30 pounds lost for 2 months. A bout with bronchitis made me not able to exercise for 3 weeks and ever since then I've never gotten back on track.

We're getting ready to start a Holiday challenge over on the LJ community (journey2health). Come on over and let us know if you are interested!
Is there room for one more? I'd love to join.
I'm currently at my heaviest and I'm really committed to getting back into shape. My story is a long one, of course. I've struggled with my weight for about 10 years. Ever since I quit dancing. I was basically able to keep it under control with a lot of exercise. About 4 years ago I was up over 200 which was my highest ever (then) and lost oh, about 30lbs doing the carb addict diet. My weight flucuated but again, with exercise I could pretty much maintain. I gained weight again, up to about 218, lost 20 lbs with WW. Then our daughter was born (DP gave birth). I switched jobs, away from the WW meetings and my gym. Stress for me leads to eating crap. Gained what I'd lost and some more back. Money has been tight for the first year of DD's life (daycare, yowza), so I never could justify a gym membership. Now, at my heaviest to the point where I despise every picture of myself and hate how I feel, I have to lose the weight. I want to be a healthy example for my DD, and right now I'm not that at all. Rejoined the gym recently and am trying to go after my DD is in bed a few times a week.
In terms of program, for activity I'm using the couch to 5K plan, plus other cardio and weights. For diet, I'm working with a modified low carb plan again. Protein for bkfast and lunch (salad), and then dinner. With portion control, portion control is so hard for me!!!
I'd like to lose around 70lbs in total.
Looking forward to having some folks to share it with.
Erin
ETA I'd love to join the challenge mentioned above...I'm ratqueen on LJ.

Hi All. Is there room for another member? I'm _Tinkerbell_76 over at LJ.
I am currently weighing in at 220 & my goal weight is 150. 70 pounds to loose. Ick.
I never had a weight problem while I was growing up in fact in high school I was around 135 & a size 6!!! Being 5'11 I was actually UNDERWEIGHT for my height at that time..if you can believe that!! My weight gain started with going to college at night..eating all the wrong foods especially late at night after class, meeting my DH, then getting comfy..etc..and the weight piled on. We got pregnant a year after we got married, my heaviest was while I was pregnant weighing in at 245. I really am tired of feeling & looking this way & want to finally do something about it now. I've been a SAHM for the past 3 years, currently looking to go back to work which I know will help with not having all the junk food & what not in the house & available to eat (even though my 3 year old probably shouldn't be eating it either, lol).
I have a gazelle at home & have been using it although I still get discouraged. My main focus is my abs. I've been trying to work in workouts from home since I can't afford a gym right now & just signed up with sparkpeople.com which lets you add in all your foods & gives you workouts..etc...so we'll see how that goes.
I want to change but then get discouraged. I dont have much motivation. Sometimes I feel like "why should I bother?" then there are other days where I'm gung ho & want the weight off asap. lol I'm a yo-yo.
So just wanted to swing by & say "HI" to everyone here. Congrats to those who have already lost weight...Ive read through the whole thread :) Good luck to everyone!!
Hopefully by joining here & on LJ you gals will help motivate me to loose this extra weight!!!
:) Heather

Anyone else still out there?
I've been doing WW since the end of December. My official WI last Wed has me down 13 pounds (in two weeks!).
I'm thrilled and hoping to be at my 10% goal soon! And by soon, well, that will likely be another month or so. ;)

I should be joining in soon! My DD was born December 3rd, and I have my 6 week check-up on Friday, hoping to get the go-ahead to go back to the gym and for me to really start losing. I lost more than what I put on in pregnancy- I am actually down 41 from my highest weight, which is a good motivator for me. That all happened within the first 3 weeks and now I am at a standstill.
I plan to re-join weight watchers and go to the gym 3 times a week. My ILs bought me a gym membership for Christmas (it was on my list and FIL goes to the same one) so I am hoping to get good use out of it. Now that DD is old enough to be watched by their babysitters and that I am pumping so someone can give her a bottle, I feel fairly confident that I will succeed.
Jenny- I would like to do an 8 week challenge with you, if you want. One pound per week sounds great. I will be starting next week though (hopefully).

LOL, my WI day is Wednesdays - I'd prefer not to have Mondays, since the weekends is usually when I tend to use my flex points.
If it's Mondays, that's fine though. :) I think an 8 week challenge is good to start - that way it seems like a smaller goal and for those that will be ttc this year not to have to feel like they can't participate in a bigger challenge.
Since sare is available to start after Friday, we could make the challenge start on the following Monday.

I WI today and lost another 2 pounds. I'm down a total of 15 pounds since starting 3 weeks ago. I'm pretty happy with that. My original goal was 2 pounds per week (on average) so I'm thrilled that I'm doing so well. I actually had to reevaluate my current goals to account for meeting my first two goals already. :D Next up is 19 pounds by 1/31. :D
I think we'll just keep the challenge going in this thread - no use starting up another one! We can just update in the title of our posts to reflect our total loss. Does that sound okay?

So, you might need to weigh yourself tomorrow.
One pound per week is the challenge. You're free to ammend the challenge as you see fit. I'm aiming for two pounds per week. The challenge will last 8 weeks. Good luck!
I think we have the following up for the challenge:

There's not really a thread here for women who need to lose a moderate amount and I'm not sure where 40 pounds lies in a category. With a frame of 5'0, losing 40 pounds is a ways off for me. According to my BMI I am in the obese category. If you all feel it's not ok for me to join along, that's ok, just let me know. Otherwise I will always be very supportive as I'll be following along and doing the same things to create a healthier me.

I dont' have a LOT to lose, but I'll be along supporting you all and working hard with you. I love support groups, but to me 30-40 pounds is alot, so I'll be right along side you all.Do you realize how condescending your post sounds? If not, please know that it does. If you do, I have no idea why you would even think of posting it. You've already managed to make one group of people dislike you, so I don't know why you'd tempt that fate again.

I gained 50 pounds after the wedding between stress and hormones and crappy habits. 30 lbs, same reasons - plus a kitchen remodel which turned into an excuse to eat lots of sandwiches. :o
Add some health issues which started last summer and introduced steroidal meds and exercise intolerance .... and here I am.
I don't know how much I have to lose anymore, but it's a lot! I'd love to join the thread AND the challenge, since 1lb a week sounds about right to me for the time being.
I'm happy to have stumbled on this thread, since I already had plans to clean my fridge and plan a menu this week. I'm not in charge of all the food and cooking around here, but everyone eats better when there's a well-stocked fridge and a plan - we were overdue.) I'm excited to be in on the ground floor of this challenge - I always seem to find them after they're underway!
HB - I think she meant she has 30 - 40 to lose, and to her that's a lot? Regardless, I agree with you about the unfortunate way that post reads.

Rewording as I didn't realize it was insensitive.
ooohhh....we're doing a challenge? A Big Girl Challenge :p I think I just might be up for that. I've had a crazy week and haven't followed WW all that closely this go'round. So I'm definitely up for a little focus. Great idea ladies!

Hey ladies! I've got a lot of weight to lose too, and I'd like to join in with you guys. I've been heavy since college, but I'm crazy heavy now. I need to lose for my health, to help my TTCing along, to help my confidence - all sorts of reasons.
I'm traveling this week and my goal is to not gain, but I think I'd like to join the challenges going forward. :)

I am totally in too! I really thought I would be getting my butt back in gear way earlier than 5.5 months post-partum.
I joined WW on-line back when I went back to work (almost 3 months ago).I planned on joining WW and going to meetings but so far having to get up at 6:00 am to do so just isn't working, so I am going to be doing on-line for now and maybe do meetings once the weather gets nicer.
I just spent all afternoon going through the point values of all my common foods since they are slightly different than the last time I did WW. I am ready to go!
I have never lost more than 25 lbs at a time.
I've got 20 to loose until my scale no longer says I am obese
I've got 60 to loose until WW no longer deems me overweight
I've got 75 to loose to be at my ultimate goal
But right now my mini-goal is 10 lbs so I can be under 200
And a more medium goal is 25 lbs by mid-May when we go on our 2 year anniversary cruise
I weigh myself on Friday mornings.

I am in for the challenge too! I am training for a 10k on March 25th and I have been no carbing it for 4 days. Started off suky but now Im used to it and feeling pretty dang good. I threw away my last scale in a weak moment because I thought I didnt want to weigh myself any longer but now I almost craving to step on one. LOL I will go out tomorrow and buy another one so I can track my loss for the challenge. Im SO excited to see this as our LJ group kind of died down.
I lost 110 lbs before our wedding and then gained it almost all back after 2 kids under 2 years. So here I am again needing to loose about 100 lbs. My goal for this challenge is to loose at least 3 lbs a week if not more. I plan on jogging every morning and working cardio at night. If any of you girls are on LJ and would like to friend me I am April1234 over there too. Jenny we have to keep eachother going!!:D
TrisigmaNC, I didnt read your first post but I read the "revised" post and still think it is quite condesending. Im going to be honest here while trying to still be nice and civil. My honest opinion is that you dont belong here. 40 lbs is a great goal to have but it is nothing like loosing 100lbs. (because I have done so before and then gained it back) Its a completely different mindset. If I were to go to my Dr. and request a weight loss surgery he would understand why. If YOU went to your Dr and requested a weight loss surgery Im not sure he would get it. If I were to loose 40lbs I would still be over 200 lbs. I would suggest you start a Moderate weight loss group for the suppourt you are looking for.

MES - congrats on the loss!
Jesvet - Of course you're welcome to join. How much do those shakes cost? Are they covered by insurance? Are you still nursing?
I don't remember the exact cost- I think it will be about $300 a month? Not covered by insurance, sadly. There are also additional fees for the 'medical monitoring' portion which are not covered, but I only have to do that for a couple months. A lot of the people who are in the program were referred for heart problems, hypertension, diabetes etc so they need to watch them closely. Fortunately I am healthy (except for this) so it should be smooth sailing. This is the first time in my life I have been motivated MORE by health concerns than vanity...obviously that is there too but I'm finally at the age where I can FEEL the effects of this and it sucks.
I did have to wean Zach before starting the program.

jesvet what type of shakes exactly? Are you allowed to eat anything other than the shakes? At first the $300 was a shocked but I guess if your not consuming any other food other than that then it kind of evens itself out. Did you inquire about it at your general Dr.? I think I could do something like that because I would feel like I was wasting money if I didnt follow it. LOL

Yay, for so many people joining in our "big girls" challenge, as Katy put it. :)
jesvet - thanks for the info. Sounds like that plan is out for me, since I don't want to wean Nora until at least a year. And then my DH wants to try again as soon as N is one year old (but we are still debating b/c I don't want to completely wean, but I have to before clomid). I can't wait to follow your progress though! I think JennH (is she around here or only on lj these days?) did the shake thing and last time I saw her posting in someone else's journal she had lost a ton of weight.

So what's the challenge?
I need to get it together. I'm great during the week, but then I just don't count points on the weekend. And lately, with all the snow, I've been a baking/cooking/eating fool all weekend long from being cooped up.
oh crap, we were supposed to weigh in today, right? But I've already drank tons of water :( And we leave for the airport as soon as the hubby gets out of the shower. Oh well, I'll do better with the BG Challenge, next go 'round (and even though I'll be on a mini-vacation, I plan to watch what I eat AND work out - I even packed the workout clothes and updated my Shuffle :D

Yup, I'd like to join the challenge :D
Right now, we don't have a scale in our house :o so I couldn't weigh in this morning. But, I'm going to stop at Target after work and get one. I've decided to hold myself accountable and call my mom after every workout. If I don't call her by 8:30, she's calling me. My mom is a really good motivator. When I was still at home, we got on a huge workout kick. I was a freshman in HS and lost 60 pounds (a lot for a 15 year old). I looked damn good too! But it was all because my mom made me/encouraged me to workout and eat right.
Is anyone else's DH a sabatour? My DH always sabotages my diets. He'll come home with ice cream, no veggies, etc when he shops. I'm hoping he's helpful this time around. I mean, the last time I did this diet we HAD to stick to it because it was for our DD. Now... we don't have that requirement.

The challenge is one pound per week for 8 weeks. Take your starting weight today (or, if you weighed on Friday, take that) ;). Then, next Monday report your weight loss.
Some people are doing more. I'm challenging myself to two pounds per week, April is trying three pounds per week.
And b/c it got buried on the last page, I'm posting the lineup again. :)

Bad bad DHs!!
Luckily for me DH will not grocery shop as he hates the aisle wars and getting around lookey lous like me  He will pick up things, only if he has a list and the list is short so I don't have to worry about him bringing home bad things.

DH can be a sabatouer or he acts like its a competition - he's the one who lost 30 pounds my last trimester. Of course he's gained it all back and then some. But he could loose it just as fast. He and I also have different eating habits so it is hard - he gains weight by eating crap. I gain weight by eating too much (though unfortunately I've eaten more crap in the 4 years we've been together).
I have wanted to say things to him lately because he complains that his back is hurting holding DD and I can tell he's uncomfortable sitting on the floor with her. But I can't preach to him. I am doing this for ME this time. If he wants to join in with the healthy eating then he can, but sooner, rather than later, all the bad food will be out of the house because I need to set a good example for DD.

Glad to know my DH isn't the only one. Not that that's a good thing, but...I'm not alone! DH will eat crap and say he'll work out. But he never works out and constantly complains about being fat (his words, not mine). I yell at him to stop complaining; to start working out - basically put his money where his mouth is. I don't complain to him when I feel heavy; I know what I need to do, it's just that I'm not motivated.

Of course you're welcome to join, jellybeany! I didn't join the year long challenge on lj b/c I think we'll be ttc later this year. 6-8 weeks at a time is much better for me, plus it'll be nice to have small challenges and see great progress to keep us all motivated!
I'm happy to see our little group is growing. :)

So I am about to go to Walmart when DH gets home from work to buy a new scale and then I will weigh in. I am PLANNING on loosing 2 lbs starting from tomorrow but hoping for 3.;) My grandparents 60th wedding anniversary is Feb 18th and I would LOVE to be down a size or 2.
I think I need to buy a special dress to get into to motivate me.

My DH isn't a sabateur, but I do think that as hard as I will be trying to lose weight, this will be the hardest time for me. My husband has a very high metabolism and is very thin and can eat whatever he wants, along with having a sensitivity to veggies and dairy, so he mostly eats meat and carbs. We are currently living with his parents to save for a home and they cook most meals. His mom has the same small frame and metabolism (5 ft tall and 102 pounds). She puts butter, salt and msg into almost every meal and that makes it hard to lose weight. She doesn't think she cooks unhealthy food, because she seems to equate unhealthy with dairy like cream, cheese, sour cream, etc.
FIL is always trying to stay healthy and so I think he will be helpful, but I think I will have to prepare seperate meals from the family in order to succeed. MIL is of the mindset that anyone can lose weight and be healthy if they just have willpower, but it's hard to resist when they buy cakes and pastries weekly, cook with a lot of fat and use a lot of salt ( read: bloating!)
I am determined to do well this time, though. I desperately want to be able to chase after my daughter and be a good example for her, even if I am not going to be a size 4, I'll settle for 14 and feeling good.
My goal is to walk daily for about 30-60 minutes, and once my doctor clears me, I plan to go to the gym a few times a week and try to follow weight watchers.
Sorry for the long windedness, just wanted to share my story.

Last night I did the 30 minute (2 mile) Walking Away the Pounds DVD. Ummm...bad sign when you're starting to hurt during the WARM UP!! But, I felt good after I worked out. My mom called during my WO because I hadn't called her. DH told her I'd call back. I'm glad my mom is helping me stay accountable.
