ISO Opinions: NordicTrack Ellipticals OR Refurb Precors

I am on the hunt for a high quality (gym grade or near gym grade) elliptical machine that will not break the bank. I LOVE the Precor models, but at $2500-$2800, they are a bit too pricey for me. (I was ready to plunk down the $ for a Precor but DH had a conniption!)

Please provide your opinions if you either (A) have a refurbished Precor -

Where did you get it?
How much $?
Are there warranties with refurb models?


OR (B) have a NordicTrack elliptical

How would you rate the quality of the machine - gym grade?

I have a NordicTrack we bought at Sears for about $1000 a year and a half ago. When I use it, I really like it. I tend not to use it though. Oops.

It's certainly not as fancy as the ones at the gym, but it's definitely better than any of the others we saw that weren't in the $2k range.

I bought a refurbished EFX and got a 6 month warrenty from the fitness equipment seller (bought it on ebay a couple years ago) - I actually had problems with it - the seller was great - and the ultimate answer was I upgraded at wholesale cost to a brand new cordless model.

The seller said I was the first person who got a "lemon" (the magnet and flywheel inside were bent - he'd NEVER seen that before!)...and I wouldn't hesitate to buy one again - although I think my efx will last for ever! (it better! ;) ). I wanted equipment that was the same as at the gym...

cc8 I don't know if this will help you or not! I really want an elliptical for home use too and have specified to my DH that it must be a quality piece of equipment. Anyway; I found this one on HSN's (Home Shopping Network) website and am seriously considering it:

We have the NordicTrack CX 998 Elliptical. It's a great machine- does everything we need it to do and then some. We bought it at the NordicTrack store- it was on sale and they had a special financing rate, too (0% for 12 months, I think).

BusyBody Fitness is have a nice sale right now. I am going to decide between Precor and Life Fitness brands today. Thanks for everyone's input. If I had more time and if my folks weren't footing the bill (a grad present!) then I'd probably look into NordicTrack.
