Subscribing to our new home. Ooh I have to look for a picture!

Father's Day I had thought about doing a 5 picture frame with a picture of AJ in each frame holding a letter to spell out D-A-D-D-Y but I haven't really got around to it yet. I did find a cool shirt and hat at Target that said "The King" I thought he might get a kick out of that. Seeing as he totally screwed up my mother's day I am not real motivated to do something for him

Ditto. Well about the same amount of effort. He wants a grill....ok you go pick it out, I'll hand the lady the credit card then you bring it home, you open it figure out how it works and we'll spend the rest of the day doing yard work (vice laundry) and I'll forget to make reservations too. I like the picture idea though!

Omigosh our 5th (?) thread! We're posting fools....

Does anyone have a Superyard XT? I'm considering this for some of my baby proofing problems. I don't expect him to sit in it really but to block off an extended length of space maybe...and for outside. Opinions? Thoughts?

Tomorrow should be a picture catch up day for me....I'll drop off a new Jeb one then...maybe several.

Just subscribing to our new thread.

Has anyone else been super irritable lately? I've seen a couple of people on LJ mention feeling depressed. I wonder if these are all symptoms of the same thing. I've heard that as you bf less and less you might get feelings of depression from the come down off of oxyitocin (sp?). I don't know if that is what I'm feeling or if AF is about to come back. I actually used to irritate quite easily, but since becoming a mom I've noticed that I've mellowed a lot. Well, within the last couple of days everything is back to getting on my nerves. I'm trying to figure out what is wrong.

Father's Day - sounds like I'm not the only one who got a lame Mother's Day. I have to admit, this is making me not feel like doing anything for him. The truth is, I don't even think he'd care if I didn't do anything.

Alice - we are thinking about buying that exact play yard or whatever they are called. Walmart has it on sale online for $49.96. I couldn't find it at Target and I don't have a local BRU. I think it would be great for both indoors and out. And for safety reasons, we NEED it!

Great new thread!! Please change my age to 31. Thanks! And you can use this photo for page 1.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b315/alex6789/9months_2.jpg

Janet - I've been irritable lately. I'm not BF so that isn't my cause. I think with our little one's getting more mobile, it is more exhausting. I know I'm finding the house getting messy-er (messier looks wierd), less time for myself (things like shaving, etc.), my stress level rising, and fewer and fewer hours in the day. I assume I'm just spending more time running around after Trenton. His naps are fewer and shorter. I'm just totally wiped out and in desperate need of recharging my batteries but no one seems to notice that, even though I just about shout it at the top of my lungs every day to DH, he just says - stop pushing yourself so hard, take a break. Yeah, whatever.

Sonya, thanks for the new thread. Sorry I've been such a slacker co-threadmistress.:o

Joining everyone else in the age change requests, I'm now 32.

irritable-I've always been irritated very easily. I hate that about myself. The past two weeks, I was a raging bitch-snapping at Sal; snapping at Luke. ugh. I had dropped my Zoloft dose down to 50mg because I wasn't sleeping at night and I think it finally caught up to me. I upped it up to 75mg hoping that would help. Coincidentally (or not), AF was here last week, so that could have had something to do with it, too. I do feel better this week, so who knows.

superyard-we bought two of these to create a safe play area for Luke. I have pictures in my LJ of Luke playing in there. Surprisingly, he will play in there for quite a while by himself.

Father's Day-I love that Daddy picture idea!!! I had a great Mother's Day-Sal actually bought us a joint Mother's Day/Father's Day gift of tickets to go see The Wedding Singer on Broadway. I was warned not to spend too much money on him. The picture idea might be the way to go. My other idea was a subscription to this Poker magazine I saw an ad for on TV. Hmmm...

irritable I can't say I am any moreso now than ever before. :p But in all honest, when I was weaning Zach, I really think I was... so I'm with you on that, Janet!

Father's Day Not. a. clue. I found a onesie that I want to get that says "Daddy's Little Dude" at Old Navy. But I wanted to MAKE DH something from Zach. I'm just not crafty enough. Any ideas?!

06-03-2006, 08:29 AM
Leslie...I'm glad to know Luke likes the play area...so even with 12 panels together its still pretty sturdy? Our BRU had the sunshade on clearance the other day...of course I went back to get it and it was gone....but I figure this will be a good thing for outside too.

Alex I saw it on Walmart.com too...its definitely the cheapest although shipping is another $10 so its almost the same as everywhere else...still slightly cheaper. One Step Ahead is selling them for like $75+shipping ...why, I don't know.

I've definitely been in the irritable category lately. Not a whole lot more than normal but some of Jeb's new abilities and habits are frustrating....and Kevin is just frustrating in general.

LeslieR
06-03-2006, 08:37 AM
Alice, the area that it covers is not very big at all IMO, which is why we bought two. We almost bought the extension kit, but the SuperYard itself was on sale for $54.99 and the extension kit was $24.99 (for only two panels, I believe). That just seemed silly. Buying a second one turned out to be the better way to go as far as the space we have. It is pretty sturdy, but you have to adjust the panels to sit at an angle to stand up straight if you don't have it hooked together all the way. It's hard to explain what I mean, so I hope that makes sense.

namrodda
06-03-2006, 10:09 AM
Yes Leslie, that makes sense! We have an odd arrangement of furniture the way it is placed and so I have challenges of how to block certain places off....getting two does seem the smart idea.

So Kevin decided he needed to go golfing today instead of watching the kiddo for me so I didn't get the picture catch up day I had hoped for...but I've gotten some uploaded.

Oh a new thread! Everyones pictures are adorable. Its so amazing to see how big everyones babies are getting, its sad, but thrilling at the same time.

We are still on vacation, today is the first day it hasn't been pouring and Pete is sick. Im sitting in the beach house by myself (with the boys); everyone else is out having a good time. Pete is sick and Nate is FINALLY taking a nap. Enough bitching though. I love it down here and the boys are loving having daddy home all week. They are getting quite clingy to him. DH is loving it, but worries its going to be a difficult transition when vacation ends (on Tuesday).

Fathers Day I want to get DH a shirt that says: "I love my twins, it makes my weekends seem longer". (or something to that effect, I forget exactly what it says). He also wants a weed-eater.

depression/irritablitly things are actually getting better for me. With the boys being more independant, it lightens my load. I can sit and watch them play while I fold laundry and they are napping really well now so I can take a nap while they are too. They are feeding themselves and holding their own bottles, so thats easier on me too. The demands on me have changed, Im now chasing them in two different directions, but thats easier on me than the constant dependancy. (Infancy just isn't my thing I guess). Plus, Im on a new antidepressant and thats working soo much better for me.
Im actually enjoying this age more than I have any other.

irritable yep. Arrena has awakened at 5 am most days this week - and i get up with her. I'm partly salty because DH seems to think that the weekends are for sleeping in and catching up on sleep. But I don't get to sleep in - ever! I always get up with her (o.k., he has a few times - like 4 times), and I'm exhausted. When she does go down for her 1/2 hour nap which gets later and later, I can't nap. I'm too wired up by then. So I'm irritable.

father's day hhmmm. My mother's day consisted of getting two cards (one from the girl) and asking me if I wanted to eat somewhere. Then I decided where and when, etc. That's it. No gift, no nothing. Add that to the fact that I just turned 40! and although I was in France on the actual day, when I got back - NOTHING. My g.f.s had a lunch, which was nice. DH gave me a new brag book photo album and transferred my pics into it. o.k., that's $8.95 he spent. I got no card, no gift, no cake. I turned 40! That might also be why I'm a bit irritable.

So what am I giving him? yeah, right.

Thanks! And thanks for the new thread too.

Fathers Day J will still be overseas so that sucks. So we have nothing planned! I did buy a card that I'll probably just give him once he gets home in July. I want to get a cute onesie too -- "if you think I'm cute, you should see my daddy" or something like that...

irritable single parenting - yep! you just don't get a break. it's hard, i don't know how people do it all the time. But we're hanging in there... Noah is a great kid, and is really happy most of the time. That helps! He is so active though, it's hard to keep up!

With all that said... ;) I'm hardly able to post here very much but am always trying to keep up with you guys!

We are still on vacation, and had a small break in the rain so we went for a walk on the beach (and it rained while we were out walking). This is a real crappy vaca - trapped inside the house with my ILs for a week...and my ILs and I don't exactly see eye to eye. Tina - love the stroller pic! I didn't even know they made double strollers that had a 'front seat/back seat' configuration (vs side by side). Cute!

QPDoll
06-04-2006, 11:06 PM
Yep, they make a ton of inline strollers, most of them are big, long, heavy, bulky and hard to fold. (IMO) this is a Phil and Teds E3, its actually a single stroller with an add-on back seat. It turns like a dream, its light, its compact when it folds (although not quite as compact or light as my side by side Mclaren Rally Twin). Its a dream stroller for me, its totally awesome.

Great pics!

I love Tina's stroller. That looks so cool.

Yup, our babies our almost gone. We are getting some great children in their places. There are days that I miss that little baby, but I usually love watching him play or playing with him.
How long does this whole separation anxiety thing last? It is driving me nuts. He always needs mom. He screamed at Dad yesterday when Dad got him up.

Love the pics of the boys, Tina. That stroller is so cool!

Arden is keeping us hopping. She no longer wants to cuddle, she just wants to motor around the house and get into trouble. Although since she's not feeling well, she's torn between cuddling and wanting to move. So she sits on our laps and then tries to dive head first off the couch when she sees something more interesting.

We have her 9 month WBV tomorrow. They are doing bloodwork at ours. I have to say I feel like A has been sick so much, I'm nervous about them finding something wrong with her. :( We spend most of the time blaming the daycare, and the ped has said over and over that this is what daycare babies go through, it's just every once in awhile a little worry voice takes over.

Of course, I have to take her because DP can't watch her get shots, let alone blood drawn. So, I'm the mean mommy tomorrow.

In response to the irritability thing...we are both super, super sensitive these days. I think we're overcommitted with volunteer work, full time jobs and Arden. Therefore we just keep constantly running and don't take the time to do stuff around the house that we should etc. Which leads to arguments. :o Work issues do not help the situation at all.

I know my fuse has gotten shorter, and Arden is the only person with whom I'm utterly calm with. This morning I was snapping at DP because I was running late (she's home with A on Mondays) and couldn't find something I needed and I know, stepping back from it (after I found it and was driving to work), she was just trying to be helpful. I can't wait for our vacation at the end of July, I think we're going to need it. Meantime we just need to pick a Saturday and drop Arden off with D's sister and spend a day having a leisurely lunch and seeing a movie or something.

Wow, this is long. Sorry for rambling.

Erin

Tina - I heart your stroller. What do you think of the rumble seat? Can the boys see from it?

Erin - So sorry to hear that A is still sick. I will think good thoughts for the blood test during the WBV.

Sarah - We have a pink version of the romper N is wearing. Our's is "Lovable". I love that one on her.

I think I am the only one who likes the clingy phase. M has never been big into cuddling. Now, she will just climb up to sit in my arms, will fall asleep with me, and just show so much love (like randomly kissing me). Again, up until recently I rarely got this. Occassionaly I would like some space, but I take the cuddles over the space any day.

We are all really sick in my house right now. Between head colds and teething we are just not happy campers. Add in a nonfunctioning kitchen and you get joy. We demo'ed our kitchen thi weekend. Cabinets in next week. Appliances in two weeks. New, clean, functioning, non-sliver giving cabinets. Hooray!

QOTD - Do your children cry much in their sleep? It is like M is having nightmares. But what is she afraid of? nI guess she has taken enough spills that could scare her.

EJH
06-05-2006, 07:42 PM
Kindermom -- new kitchen stuff, do you feel the envy?? Wow, jealous!

QOTD, Yes, Arden does cry in her sleep. She doesn't do it as much as she used to, but a few months ago she would do it all the time, and it would take quite a bit to soothe her out of it.

QPDoll
06-05-2006, 10:04 PM
Noel I was worried about the view from the rumble seat, but neither seem bothered by it. They are usually looking out the side which gives them plenty of viewing space. I also put a toddler in the back and asked him what he thought, and he liked it.
I couldn't cope living in a house without a kitchen!!! Best wishes on the remodel! How exciting!
nightmares Yes, Nate has always (seemingly) had nightmares, ever since he was born. He wakes up with a certain tone to his cry and we have to run to him with a paci and a pat on the back or he wakes up fully, scared, and we end up bringing him to bed. He is real restless those nights. He does cry out in his sleep.

Erin - :( sorry Arden gets shots. :( I know that little voice youre talking about, Mommy Guilt. Arg. Trust your ped that its true that daycare kids do get sick a lot, but my boys haven't been in day care and we still battle illnesses. Each illness I try to remind myself that they are building their immune system.

Kat How did Daniel react to that?? It always hurts my DHs feelings when the boys want mommy over him. And he gets all puffed up and proud when they want him.

attachment My boys are getting more and more independent, but when they feel like cuddling its usually because the other one does. Then they fight over me. They don't usually cry when I LEAVE, but they cry when I RETURN and it hits them that I wasn't there - even if they were happy as a clam while I was gone.

Lora I am making some garden stones for the Grandpa's. I bought the stuff at Michael's (craft store). They are cement blocks basically and they will have his hands prints in them, decorated with glass pebbles or tiles. One will say "Grandpa's Garden" (he loves to garden) and the other will say "Grandpa's Pond" he has a huge koi pond so he should like that. You could also go the easier route and just make handprints with plaster of paris they sell the kits but you could make it cheaper by just buying the plaster at a home improvement store and finding any old mold (like an empty frozen dinner thingy)if you need more instructions for this let me know. You could also buy some fabric paint and put his hand prints on either a t-shirt or boxers or a hanky with a cute saying like "hands down your the best" or something to that effect.

Irritable Yup! I think it really is because he is just so mobile and demanding these days that I don't get a chance to do anything. The house looks like a tornado hit it! and it's worse on the days that Brian is home with him. It just kills me that I have to do everything "AJ" related and he sits his ass down on the couch to watch TV! We have had numerous discussions on this and he is getting better, but I swear some days I could throw him against the wall!!! Okay Yup I'm a little irritable :o and I just weaned AJ so that might also have something to do with it.

TIna I love that stroller I have never seen anything like it.

Attachment with AJ it's mostly at night. He just wants to be around me. He doesn't so much want to be on my lap as much as climb all over me  I wish it was that he was more cuddly.

Arrena is supposed to start daycare tomorrow. Problem is, I wasn't able to pick up her paperwork until this evening. Now, I see all kinds of things that I question.

First, the woman is kind of annoying. She speaks to me like I'm slow. Not mean, just like I don't have a clue about babies. I try to give her the benefit because, she doesn't know me, and many people might be as clueless as she thinks I am. But she also doesn't always listen well. Plus, she's effusive about Arrena, which is just kind of ......weird.

But I picked her because she had good credentials and older, noisier kids. Arrena needs activity - even if she can't join in. I don't think Arrena at her worst will phase this woman.

She's more expensive than our other choice (by $50/wk) and doens't have a food program but will cook for DD. I just have to give her a list of foods she's eaten. And she uses a crib instead of a pack n play for naps - great because DD won't sleep in a PNP.

BUT, her hours are from 8am to 5pm! She charges $5 for 5 mins late, and more thereafter. Now if she works from 8-5, and we work from 8-5, how are we getting her to daycare on time??

I don't know - am I doing the right thing? I guess if I don't like it after a week or so, we can terminate the contract. Ugh.

Darrien If it doesn't go well or you are unhappy I would say take her out. You HAVE to be comfortable about where you are leaving your baby or you are just going to be miserable about it. Give it a few weeks feel the place out, go on off times unanounced so you can get a full picture of the place at different times.thenyou can re-evaluate.
On a side note. . . .Just thought I'd let you know we are going to opening soon. The house in undergoing some minor construction and we are in the process of getting the whole license thing, well I am. I will be overseeing the whole thing while my aunt is the one who will be there taking care of the kids.

Home sick today! Woo Hoo. Ok, I actually feel really horrible. Thank goodness the baby is with my MIL so I can sleep. Darn - I just called the Dr and they do not open until 11:30 today.

Erin - The cabinets are not a desire but a neccessity. 1) There is only one cabinet in our tiny kitchen that can hold plates, all the others are too narrow. 2) The PO who hand made the cabinets used particle board which is now infused with grease, is crumbing, and is prone to giving slivers. On the upside, DH's has a family of contractors of various types so we are able to do a DIY. We also got our cabinets really cheap ($500 for solid oak).

Tina, that stroller is awesome! How do you decide who rides on top and bottom? lol Was it very $$$?

Luke has his first earache.:( It started off on Saturday as a virus-fever/runny nose/bad cough. He's still running pretty warm-the runny nose and cough are HORRIBLE today. He's so miserable. The ear doesn't seem to be bothering him, thank God. He's fighting medicine big time these days, so we mixed the amoxicillin with 1/4 jar of bananas this morning. He doesn't want to eat much solids, so that was a chore to get in him. I CANNOT wait until he's feeling better. He's not much interested in anything but watching TV and since he's not feeling well and that makes/keeps him happy, I'm all for it.:o

Hi all,

Thanks for the kind words re: Arden's constant sickness!

We had her 9 month WBV/ear check this morning.

Stats --
Ht. 30 1/4 inches (over 97th percentile!)
Wt. 21lbs 7oz (didn't get the % on this one)

She's tall and has really thinned out recently. She's still got the chunky thighs but not really the baby rolls anymore.

They drew her blood, the NP was terrific, just one stick! Arden was not a happy little girl at that point though. She just curled up on me after that with her tear drenched face :( . They're looking at her immune system and also will do the lead test, and b/c A has had a reaction to eggs (which her other ped recommended we start already), we are having her tested for an egg allergy. The NP we met with (we like her so much better than the peds, man!) said it sounds like just an intolerance, not an allergy. So, we'll see.

EARS

They are not infected anymore, but they still have fluid in them. The bottom line is, she's a really good candidate for tubes. The NP said we can try the low-dose antibiotic, but she's pretty positive that tubes will be in our future. So, she referred us to the specialist at Children's and we'll go see him. She's on Bactrum until then, so we can try and at least keep her ears as clear as possible. So, surgery, albeit minor, is in our future.

The other thing she asked about was sippy cups, and yes, A will drink them by herself with no issues. She said they like to see kids moved completely off of bottles by 1, and she said that it will help A's ears not lying down and taking the bottle.

I'll post an updated pic tonight.

Erin

Well we were short on wet diapers cause Ben wanted to cry instead of doing anything. But I gave him some Tylenol and a teeting ring and in half an hour he was ready to nurse. I think this tooth is in far enough that it won't heal over too! He is back to nursing great other than he wants to practice with that tooth.

Tina Daniel seemed so upset about it, but he got redemption. All day yesterday when Ben wasn't feeling good and kept crying. The only time Ben was happy was with Daddy. Grr Ben has discovered the zero key on the computer.0

crying in sleep Ben fusses if he is waking up before he wants to. He has some bad dreams. I can live with that but we have a problem with night terrors when we miss naps, and mommy can't stand her little man screaming like that when there is nothing I can do. I start crying.

Michelle Thanks. I know you're right. I felt better when I actually left her, and some of our questions were answered. But I also realized that nothing is set in stone. If I'm not happy after a couple of weeks, I will reconsider. But I think we'll be alright.

Cool about your new venture. I'd love to hear more when you're further along.

Crying in sleep Arrena cries out in her sleep sometimes. I give her a few minutes to see if she'll fall back asleep. Last night and the night before (24 robbers.....) she woke up in the middle of the night and called out. The difference was that she called out a word! Not one that we know, but it was definitely a word to her. She repeated it several times, each night. It sounded like AAughaa, aaughaa. I started to think that she might be asking for water (agua) but realized that she hadn't met a Spanish speaker in her life (yet) so I doubt she knows that word. :o Oh well, I guess we'll figure out what it means one day.

Alice - I don't think it is anything related to crawling with us, but A also took a 3 hour nap yesterday - after sleeping 12 1/2 hours that night! I think ours is going through a growth spurt. He always sleeps more and eats more when he's growing. Maybe it's the same for you?

I'm so glad to not be alone.....exactly I don't know whether to be elated or worry!!

Another ques...anyone's little one get a horrible rash around their mouth regularly? Jeb's been getting them, doesn't seem to bother him at all. The doc said just all the new foods touching his skin, the saliva from teething and the combination will cause it. Some days are definitely much worse, I'm wondering if its an allergy to something I haven't picked out yet.

(sorry if tmi)
He's also been spitting up as much or more than normal. I clean up puddles off the carpet almost hourly...and it smells a lot like stomach acid (puke smell) instead of baby spit.....

As well as he's been sleeping, getting him to sleep at night is getting harder too...last night he just wailed and wailed until I came back to his side, even though he was visibly tired.

All of these things going on I do wonder if theres more to it than just the obvious.

Wow! a lot to catch up on. I haven't had much work time to be on CC this week.

I'm trying to get Rachel to sleep in her crib tonight by putting her down awake. Now this is a first for us. It's not going so well. I went in after 5 min, then 10, then 20. It's now been 5 min since the last time I popped in and it's quiet in there. Can she finally be asleep on her own? I wonder how long this will last. I just hate hearing her cry. Poor little thing.

Is anyone else having issues with their DH leaving the tv on ALL THE TIME in front of the little one? I'm trying to get DH to play with Trenton in his room without the distraction of the tv, or to turn if off periodically during the day, but he is fighting me on this. There probably aren't many of you with this issue since few babies are home alone with DH during the day. This is making day care even more appealing. My opinion - I think DH is having a difficult time making sacrifices in his own life for his son. We all have to change things we once did for the good of our children. Why doesn't he understand?! Dual parenting is very challenging (I was a single parent for 6 years with my DD before DH came into our lives).

Well, I can't help you much since I am the one that always has the tv on, but I hope you figure it out. I need background noise and all the pbs kids shows are good noise and some are pretty fun to watch. Ben likes to play by himself with mom sitting six inches away though.

I am also the one who leaves the TV/Video on although I am starting to be more careful about what is on. M does not pay any attention to the TV yet. I have even tested baby Einstein and Fisher Price Videos and she could care less. She is usually with her back turned to the tv playing.

The TV is on here all day long, too. No TV for Luke was a nice thought in theory, but it just doesn't work in our household. He pays attention for BE and Sesame Street, but other than that, he only periodically looks up at the TV in between chasing balls around the house.

Red'sGirl

I try not to have the TV on TOO much, but gotta have something in the mornings (TODAY, whatever) so I can wake up. Then she gets Dragon Tales, so I can make her some breakfast. But, even though she doesn't care that much about what's on, she loves music and will stop and look when shows or commercials have a song on. It's a problem when we're trying to feed her dinner, so I've been turning the TV off during her mealtime (when she gets home from daycare).

BTW, I leave today for a 4 day trip W/O baby!!! My hubby is taking over daycare transpo and will have her the weekend. I've been transitioning her to formula (not weaning, though) so she'll eat comfortably. She hasn't even noticed that the bottle isn't my milk (but she eats more of it). I'm almost miffed by that. But I know she'll be o.k. with Daddy. And I get to enjoy myself a bit and actually see movies! This festival is a big party festival - lots of drinking and late nights, plus it's on the shores of Lake Michigan. No way am I bringing her to it. So I'm sadly leaving in a few minutes to the airport (it's 4am here).

I'll check in when I return. :-)

The crib thing didn't work out last night. I gave in at 10 pm and brought her to bed with me. Maybe we'll try again tonight.

TV --

We've got the tv on when we're home. Arden doesn't pay all that much attention to it with the exception of Caillou, boy does she love that show! And it's rare that we actually put her in front of in and flip on something we know she'll watch. But there are some mornings that at 6AM when she's had a weird night and is awake and we're trying to get ready? Caillou it is. (Deep dark secret, I swore my child would never see Barney. But Barney comes on after Caillou and well, she was amused...and so I left it on. :o ...I love you..you love me...oy  !)

Red -- Have a great trip!

No exciting news from these parts. Arden is working on tooth #3 and tooth #4 isn't far behind.

She's been in a weird mood lately -- very um, feisty. And she sure can express herself if she doesn't want to have a dipe change, get dressed...etc etc etc. Good thing she's cute.

Have a great day.

Erin I say 'good thing he's cute' alllll of the time :p

We have TV on most of the day too. Talkshows and soap operas...just for the noise...I know its a bad habit...but Jeb doesn't pay any attention. The only time he watches is when Kevin has baseball on. I'm think Kev should start calling him mini-me. The kid may look just like me, but they are two peas in a pod.

But Alex I'm sorry its an issue...seems like DH should be willing to compromise if it bothers you. If its keeping him from interacting with Trenton enough then it definitely needs addressing.

Good luck with your trip Darrien!

TV - I know that the TV is on pretty much all day with Tara at the house, and I would likely do the same. Personally, its not that big of a deal to me. As she gets older, I am *hoping* that because it was never off limits per se, that it won't be a big thing. As it is now, she will pay attention to things now and then, but she is FAR more interested in me, or her toys to care. When she gets older, I think I will be more concious of how much excercise she is getting compared to sitting in front of the tube and adjust accordingly :)

Sorry if I have been MIA lately...I am way more active on LJ...we are currently selling our house and building another so life is insane right now!

I have the opposite problem with TV - DH doesn't want Caleb to watch at all because he read some study once. He's a SAHD and it's good that they don't watch TV all day together and they do stuff, but I think it's a little overboard since I can't watch TV with him ever. So when he's watching something I can't bring Caleb upstairs because he might watch, and I have to watch Caleb while Dave watches TV. I don't think that's what the study was referring too..... oh well, at least he doesn't get too much.

TV We do not let DD watch TV. We even rec'd a whole set of Baby Einstein DVDs from my mom - they remain unopened for now, on DD's bookshelf. The closest thing DD comes to "watching TV" is when DH is feeding DD (ie giving her a bottle) and he has ESPN on in the background.

I don't post much, but I read along every day.

Such cute photos! Love the beach and water pics. Nikki, I realized you were coming to San Diego last month (where I am), but I was out of town for over half the month (SIL's wedding and other stuff). So glad you got together with Mickey&B. The zoo is always great.

TV: well, for his first 4 months, I had the TV on constantly. Then I realized that really, I was just watching junk all day, so I made a rule for myself that no TV during the day. It's not that big a deal for me, but I just found I wasn't playing with DS as much as I should. So we only watch TV at night, when DS is asleep. Of course, we still co-sleep, so he listens to TV at night, I guess. I also use babyeinstein once a week or so. I try to make it a novelty, so he'll really be interested.

I just got back from Oregon a week ago. I flew there with DH and back by myself. OMG, flying solo with a 9.5 month old is terrible. He was so fussy and constantly wanted to "walk" and crawl around. And he's constipated, to which the Ped's recommendation was, "feed him more solids," which made it worse. Of course, my repeated attempts at giving him prunes, pears, etc inthe effort to make him poop before the plane ride failed, and he let everything fly on an old plane with no changing table. Ugh...DH wants to go to Hawaii in a couple months, but I don't want to fly with the baby again.

Oh, and now I am 25 (just yesterday) and DH is 26.

I don't post a lot since I'm kind of shy (which is ridiculous, as we are online), but I check this thread daily. If you guys need help with moderating, I'll be more than willing!

Leslie - The first pic was from the 1/4 melon I bought. After a few photos with her licking the melon, we had to cut it in 1/3s for her to be able to pick up. Watch out thoguh, withOUT teeth, M took some serious chunks out of the melon!

Ericka - It is so good to hear from you. Congratulations on finding out about your baby boy. I am so glad to hear that all is well with you.

Noel - Ack, how cute. I love it. It never occurred to me to give him watermelon like that. You know what we are all going to do now ;)

TV - We are hardly ever home with him so he doesn't watch that much t.v., but I'm not really opposed to it. Actually we are trying to get him to watch Baby Signing Times, but he is only half interested most of the time.

We just got back from our trip to CA and I am EXHAUSTED!!!! Even though Anders slept fine in the PNP in his room when it came out in a different place he FREAKED. He was back to waking up multiple times a night so we just brought him into bed with us so he wouldn't wake up my friend. This kid is the busiest sleeper you've ever met. He rolls and rolls and rolls in his sleep. He kept kicking me and fidgeting so every night after he ended up in bed with us I got zero sleep. Let's not even mention the complete lack of napping unless we were in the car driving. Yea, that was a lot of fun.

Other than the sleep thing we did have fun, but now I'm dreading our trip to Detroit next month. I'm going to hang out with my family the first half of our trip, and then we are leaving Anders with my parents to hang out with friends for the second half. I'm dreading the part about his sleeping. I will feel so bad leaving my parents to care for a child that won't sleep through the night. Ack, ack, ack.

I just wanted to weigh in on the TV issue. FWIW, my kids are 8 and 10 now, and they watched and continue to watch tv in what I consider to be reasonable doses. Yes, sometimes on a Saturday morning, I let them watch more than an hour of cartoons. Or on a Friday night, I'll let them watch a family movie on DVD. When they were toddlers, they both watched Sesame Street (no Barney though - that dinosaur gave me a twitch) and the Polka Dot Door. And I had the tv on all the time when they were little and I was home alone with them - that background noise kept me company at times!

My point? My kids are both very intelligent children. My son, the 10-year old, is a seriously proficient reader - we can't keep enough books in the house to fill his voracious appetite for literature. He has read the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the Hobbit, the Chronicles of Narnia - you name it, and he's read it. And fully comprehends it, too. My 8-year old is currently working her through the Nancy Drew series. Both are avid soccer players, Lego-builders, and crafty kids. They're very well-rounded, and I've never put a limit or a restriction on their tv viewing.

So I wouldn't worry about it too much. If you don't agree with kids watching tv, then that's absolutely your right, and your right to restrict it, but if you're worried about whether or not to restrict it based on possible bad effects, our experience has been that in moderation, there's nothing wrong with it.

Heck, DH and I laugh about when we were kids, and Saturday morning cartoons started at 6 am, and there were shows every half-hour until noon. We watched every Saturday morning, like zombies, and we're both pretty successful adults in spite of it. ;)

Just chiming in to say we're in the same boat with the separation anxiety. Luke has been sick for the past week or so and has decided that in addition to being sick, he'd also like to go through the SA stage. ugh. He was downright unbearable yesterday. Even Sal (who has more patience for whining than I do) was losing his patience. I can barely leave the room without Luke starting to cry. It's such a strange thing because this kid never cried the first I don't know how many months of his life. Today we went to our monthly MOMS Club meeting and it was on my lap, off my lap, on my lap, off my lap. It's like he couldn't make up his mind. I just don't know what to do with him. I tried slinging him this morning thinking that would be a good solution for us, but he still hates the sling, so no dice there.

House work Haa! what the hell is that  I mentioned my mom had to take him over the weekend so I could get some major cleaning done which was way over do! but usually everything just gets a lick and a swipe as my mom puts it :p and it has to happen eithier a) when he is napping or b) after he goes down for the night. But I am usually so tired by the end of the night not much gets done. Also while he is in the bath I take some bleach wipes and wipe down the counter every once in awhile. Our bathroom is small so I don't have to take my eyes off of him while I do it and he will usually sit for a few minutes when he first gets in and starts to play with his toys.
It's so funny my dad watched AJ on Sun for a couple of hours while I did an open house and he told me when I got back "now I understand when you say you can't get anything done, you have to watch him every second" :D

Snow - it sounds like your kids (and you and your DH ;)) are doing great! I think that's cool that your kids have no restrictions and don't watch much by choice, I may be picking your brain in a few years.

We will definitely let Caleb watch TV when he's older. Dave and I don't have much perspective here because my parents only had a teeny B&W until I was 8 or 9 years old and even with a used color TV they didn't watch much, and Dave's parents didn't have a TV until sometime after he graduated from high school and left. I couldn't believe that either when we met. They IL's are on a farm and will never be wired for cable. I think it was great for our creativity, but I hated it! Without TV you miss out on pop culture, and I wanted to fit in with the other kids who knew who Rainbow Brite was. Also, if I had watched more TV at home, some of the mystique would have been taken away and I wouldn't have been glued to the TV at friends' birthday parties. So we'll definitely encourage/allow Caleb to watch more TV than we did. Also, we consume TV and won't wait until after he's in bed.

Hello all, coming by to say that I made it through my trip to Michigan. Apparently, Arrena made it through just fine, too with DH (who made it through, but is exhausted). My film festival is one of my favorites for the people and the films. Still, they party really hard. I was happy to finally be able to have a few drinks, but I also wanted to finally get some sleep (w/o baby waking up during the night or at 7am). Well, the problem with a hard partying group is that they don't go to sleep until 5 am!! And we all stay in the same motel - so when they're up, I'm up. No sleep for me. I got LESS sleep than when I'm at home.

So tomorrow, I head to Las Vegas for three days. THERE, I will get sleep (who goes to Vegas to rest?). However, the event I am hosting is a bowling party. Fun, huh? Well, it turns out the party is planned from 1am to 4am! I'm serious! So I won't get THAT much rest, but at least I don't have to get up early.

DD has no real separation anxiety, right now. She's always been a bit clingy. But she has handled daycare, my absence, and formula like a champ. I was worried that she might not even go back to the breast, but she did. Anyhow, I'll check in after Vegas. :)

TRENTON'S WALKING!!

OMGosh ladies, I arrived home from work today and Trenton was standing unassisted in the kitchen with DH. I stooped in front of him, a couple feet away, and reach out asking him to come to me. AND HE DID! He took four unassisted steps without any problem. He had his arms out to the sides for stability. Totally cute. I wish I had a photo. I'm so pleased that DH and I were there together to catch his first steps. Our schedules are so crazy that the odds of that happening were slim. Just amazing!!

We're back from Ohio. Had a good time but we're tired. We also started swim class tonight. Preston liked it although he did cling to me - for warmth or fear, I'm not sure, but he did have lots of smiles for daddy with the video camera. Also, he's been army crawling for the past 3 months and just started to crawl on his hands/knees yesterday. He's doing it more and more so I'm wondering if he's making a switch.

Thanks ladies. I still cannot believe he did it. Even though I don't want him that mobile yet, I can't help but want to work with him on it so he gets better. I'm just so proud of him. It is like a older child bring home an A on a test they have been studing for. :)

Do any of you have ILs that are constantly comparing your child to other grandkids, or any kids that are close to them. I called MIL to tell her of Trenton's first steps (she's been ill and I though it might cheer her up some) and she was happy but immediately started talking about what month so-and-so started walking. I guess that's normal but it is frustrating when I hear it about everything. Trenton doesn't have his top middle teeth yet and she keeps asking "Does he have them yet?" She's been doing this for months because so-and-so's kids has had them.

Wow, way to go Trenton!! How fantastic that you and DH were both there, what are the odds?? Awesome :D

Arden is the first grandbaby on both sides, but MIL constantly compares her to where HER kids were at each age and also compares Arden to her friends grandkids. In terms of height, weight, food intake, physical and verbal skills. She has to give us that Arden is way ahead of her friend's granddaughter, especially verbally, and is about 6 weeks younger.

Hello, everyone! An october 05 mom popping in here for a question about naps. Right now at almost 8 months, we follow the 2 hour rule. I've been checking out daycares as it looks like i'm heading back to work soon and dd will need to start day care in August (SIL can watch her until then) The one I looked at yesterday had naps at 9:30 and 1:30, does that seem appropriate? Right now there's no way she could 3 hours in between naps without being a total monster, but I figure a lot happens in 2 months.

Hi Liz! My daycare has an "on-demand" schedule for feeding and napping. IMO, it's odd that they would have a set schedule for infants that young. DS naps around 9:30/10am and 2:30/3pm, each nap is 1-2 hours long. HTH!

I worked as a preschool teacher for years, and that seems totally absurd! to demand a schedule of a child so young. I'm curious what their resoning is behind it. If it were me I would steer clear of a place that wanted my child on "their" schedule. It's not until at least a year where most preschools start to transitionchildren into somewhat of a schedule.

I think that is waaay too long to go in between naps for a kiddo that age - esp if you are following HSHHC. Can you talk to the teacher and ask that your DC be put down for a nap at x:00, x:00, x:00 (ie give approx times)?

Red'sGirl

Liz My daycare has naps from 1pm-3pm. But the provider really does it for the older kids - she was willing to let Arrena nap on demand. Are you sure this isn't an option? Also, DD would normally take naps at 10am and again around 1pm (and has since about 9mos), but once she started daycare, she was so interested in all the other kids that she would stay awake when they were, and crash when it was nap time.

Talk with the provider and see if they're rigid or flexible, as that's probably a bigger issue. When it comes to naps, babies will nap when they want to and there's very little we can do about that. Your baby will settle into a pattern, whether it fits theirs or not.

Hey all, I'm back from Vegas. I did get some rest. However, my event was a bowling party that took place at 1 this morning and went to 4am. So much for being rested. But at least I'm home now.

I'll be back tomorrow and will finally post some pictures from Cannes.

Liz - That would not work for us either. My DD's "regular" nap schedule is from 11-2 or 10-1. Perhaps she could adjust, but as others have said, it doesn't seem age appropriate to put them on a rigorous schedule.

Welcome back Darrien. You have the coolest travels.

Hi! Our daycare is also feed/nap on demand in the infant room (up to a year old). Once they transition into the 12-18 mo. room, there is a "set" nap time (12-3, I think). Right now, DS is 10 months old and "normally" naps around 10ish & 2ish for an hour or so at a time. HTH!

Im a SAHM, but I have my boys on a sleep schedule, not on demand. It did change from every 2 hours to every 3 around 8 months. We are now at 9am and between 1 and 2 pm. 9 am is not negotable, unless they got up super early, then its more like 8am. So, its a flexible schedule allowing for change as they need it.

So, did everyones DHs have a nice first Fathers Day? We didn't really do anything, DH wanted time to work on projects around the house so he basically did chores. LOL But hey, thats what he wanted to do! The boys each got him a new shirt and I got him a bluetooth wireless headset for his cell phone (he was totally excited about that because he often does conference calls from his cell phone).

I thought Pete and Nate were weaning themselves off of bottles, they had been very disinterested in them, never finishing any of them except their goodnight bottle. But this past weekend, they have been chugging them again and crying for more when the bottle runs dry. Another growth spurt?
We have been going to the germland, er...playland at the mall every day (eaiser than the park) so, subsequently, they each have colds now. But they seem to be mild colds at least, just runny noses.

Thats about all thats going on at our house. How was everyone elses weekend?

My little man has kicked the bottle habit! He was refusing his daycare bottles something awful, so I started sending his milk in sippy cups. He's doing great with them! Such a big boy these days.

Our Father's Day was pretty low-key as well...just the way Daddy wanted it. :)

We had friends in from out of town so we took them out to lunch at a fun restaurant, went bowling, and then just hung out at the house. DH received a meat thermometer for the grill that comes with a pager so he can be up to 100ft away from the grill and it will page him when his meat is done. Total boy toy. Trenton gave him a Daddy & Me book so they can read together.

I've posted in here before about my frustrations of Trenton staying home all day with DH and not doing much so I created him a little play schedule. It isn't strict at all, very flexible, but just involves some fine motor skill time, story time, music time, outside time, stuff like that and then a list of activities as suggestions for each time. This sounds crazy, but believe me DH needs it! Anyway, my parents asked for a copy for the times that they have him so he has a little home daycare situation going now, at least until we can find a spot at a real center for him. I feel much better!

Fathers Day was ok I think. Kevin had to work in the morning so I just did some chores. He got a new grill which we needed so I marinated a really good cut of steak to grill and made some of his other favorite foods including ice cream sundaes and we had some neighbors who have a 6 month old over for dinner. Unfortunately Jeb missed a nap and wasn't too interested in playing. He even kinda hit the other baby....that is so embarassing! I don't know how to discipline a 9 month old. So he slept through dinner and I basically made Kevin play with him for much of the day, quality father time :D

He also had to work Saturday so more chores for me and picking up the grill at Lowes, plus grocery shopping. He had wed- fri off, that was our weekend and we did get our master bathroom painted finally. The paint is from Restoration Hardware if anyone is looking for some unique colors...I highly recommend the quality. We've used it twice now....anyway this was kinda lavender but it looks grey too so its not TOO feminine for Kevin's taste.

eta my big accomplishment was burning all of our 2005 pics to cds and backed up twice on dvds....3.9GBs worth! Feeww, now I can wipe them off the hardrive and hope the puter runs faster!

QOTD...how many babies are talking and how many words are they saying? Jeb is still stuck on "dai-dai" (daddy) for a month now and nothing else is coming out but mumbo jumbo.....

We had a much better Father's Day than Mother's Day.

Sean got a video he has wanted for years. It is one he remembers watching with his father and he wanted to watch with his children. He also got a new measuring tape, a ruler, a portrait of Madelyn, and some cologne.

We spent the morning playing with Madelyn, went to lunch, saw his father, and then he got to play video games.

All in all it was pretty relaxing for him.

QOTD 1:
Madelyn can say "duck" (pronounced "duh") and "all gone" (pronounced with the right intonation but as "ah duh"). She still does not consistently say "dah dee' or "dah dah" in association with "Daddy".

She can sign for "milk" or so I think.

Tina - I totally hear about the growth spurt. Madelyn has not taken more than 4 ounces at a sitting for about 4 months. This weekend she has had 4 or 5 7.5 ounce bottles! And she has had so many solids. Yikes, I hav enot been able to keep up with her. It finally dawned on me that she just hit her 9 month growth spurt. My little girl is getting so big!

QOTD: Have you started getting people/strangers asking you abou when you are going to have another yet? I have had so many coworkers ask me about my getting pg again! I is just strange.

Our kitchen should be done on Tuesday! Hooray. Only 2.5 weeks from start to finish. And it is so much better now. I can not wait to allow Madelyn to play thorughout the house and not just in the upstairs hallway/play area.

Father's Daywas nice in our house too. We went to Columbus for the weekend and went to the Zoo and then went to the The Wilds (one of those Jurassic Park like wild animal parks) on our way home. We had lots of fun! Phil got a framed portrait of Ava dressed in her Ohio State cheerleader outfit that was engraved "Daddy's Little Buckeye". He also got a new dress shirt for work from me.

So Ava, has been on a roll lately. She started crawling on June 9th, took her first unassisted steps (only two, but still) on June 16th, and on June 17th we spotted her first tooth!!!! Crazy times, crazy times!!!

As far as we are concerned, we found a lot, so we are going to start building our new home around mid July. We should be in by late October/Early November, just in time for the Holidays!!! So that has had my time occupied lately!

Here is a pic of Ava and her Daddy on Father's Day :)

QOTD 1-Luke says 'mama', 'mom' (more like "mom-mom-mom-mom-mom"), 'da', 'hi da', 'hey da', 'dada', 'duck', 'cat', and 'teeth'.

Now, do I really think he knows what he's saying? yes and no. He knows what these words mean for sure and he knows I'm mama, mommy, and mom. However, as far as I can tell Luke is just copying what we say. He is a huuuuuuuge copycat. Monkey see, monkey do all day long here.

Words - Preston says "da-da", "hi" and "ki" for kitty and signs "milk". He babbles non-stop but nothing else that makes sense comes out. He's much more physical than verbal.

Father's Day - we went out for breakfast, came home and Preston and I took a nap while DH finsihed his paper for grad school. His parents came over for a quick visit and then we went out for lunch and then did some errands. We came home and then DH took a nap. Pretty laid back but that's all DH wanted. Preston gave him the "Dad" frame, a coffee mug with his hand print on it and a card w/ a poem about fathers and sons.

QOTD - yes, people ask us when the next one is coming and I tell them that we just don't want to mess with perfection ;).

MIL started up on this in all seriousness last week. "YOU" need to have a baby, Erin. I do have a baby, her name is Arden. ;)

Honestly, I am about 95% positive she will be an only child. I just don't think we want another one. I use the perfection line constantly myself. Don't mess with perfection. She's a great baby and I think the next time we'd end up with a non sleeper or something.

QOTD 1 duck (though he has started calling all his toys duck doesn't have a great "k" sound) dog (refers to all large animals and doesn't have a great "g" sound), kitty (sounds like titty, screams it as he goes tearing off after the cat), mom mom and dada.

QOTD 2 hell no. I hear that we should wait a few more years. People are all going to be mad when I get pg again.

QOTD 1 Ava says "mama" "dada" "Hi" & "Duck" ! Quite a vocabulary! lol

QOTD 2 - We actually just decided this past weekend, we are trying as soon as we are moved into our new house which is being built (so, late October/early November). Expecting a July Baby if all goes well!

QOTD Hmm...I think Im a slacker, I just don't notice what they are saying! I think its just mama, dada and baba (although I don't think they know the meaning of baba), and just random babble. They make *muah* sounds now too, its cute. And we play "indian" sounds (ahhh...ahhh...) while putting your hand to your mouth, and they blow raspberries all the time against me. But as for real words, I don't think so, but then again, I don't really notice. We are kind of still in survivial mode.

QOTD people have been asking me this even when I was still pregnant! I figure most people are curious if after having twins, we would try for a singleton or a girl...and risk have supertwins or twins again.

QOTD #1 - Anders must be the only one who is non-verbal still. I mean he says mamamamamama and dadadadada, but he doesn't know what they mean. I sometimes try to reinforce it like "yep I'm your momma", but I don't even think he gets what I'm saying.

Actually, I've been kind of concerned about his verbal communication (or rather lack of) lately. Not only is he not saying any words, he is also not demonstrating that he understands what we are saying yet. I would think by now he should understand what I am saying some of the time. According to Baby Center he should be able to point to his nose if I ask him where is nose is. Um, not even close. I know that there isn't anything wrong with his hearing because he loves music and loves to dance, but he just doesn't seem to have any comprehension. Should I be worried? Is it because I'm not doing the right things with him? What sort of things should I be doing to encourage growth in this area? I am trying to read to him, but the dude will NOT sit still long enough for me to read him a story. If I do read to him he has to be on the ground (not in my lap) and it has to be on his terms. Maybe we read the first page, then the fourth page, then the back of the book. If I try to turn the pages he gets frustrated. Any help is appreciated. Speaking of which, what books are you all reading to your kids? I need ones that don't have paper pages because he likes to grab the pages and turn them. I'm afraid if it is paper they will tear or he'll try to put it in his mouth.

QOTD#2 - Thankfully no one is asking yet. My BFF asked a couple times if I was already (she doesn't live nearby so she wasn't inferring that I was fat). I think she thinks I'm ready, but I really like being the mother of one right now. I can't imagine thinking about another yet. I just got this one to sttn. I'm not ready for the sleepless nights again.

Janet - Trenton, in no way, can point to his nose if I say nose! He isn't even pointing at things much. I really wouldn't worry about Anders. And it sounds like you are doing all the "right" things. Every time Trenton meets a new milestone, it isn't because I'd been working with him, it was something he just woke up one day doing. Trenton is VERY physical, my gross motor skill boy. His ped said that when a baby is strong in one area it is usually at the expense of another. So I don't expect him to be strong verbally right now or with his fine motor skills. They will come. I'm sure Anders is the same way.

As far as books, we have tons of board books, mostly having to do with animals and many of them have textile parts for Trenton to feel. We have a couple plastic soft books which are great for him to eat. :) We have 3 musical books that he now likes pushing the buttons that make the animals
