QOTD - Plans after STD/FMLA leave I'll be coming to back to work. I'm sure that it will be miserable at first, but I go to work to pay the bills so my kid can get what he needs. Such is the life for me.
suiej Cute pictures!
craft 3 hours is ridiculous! I would have lied, too.

QOTD I will not be going back right away, we are actually talking about me taking in another child to watch so I would be able to stay home and still bring in some money.

Hi ladies,
I feel so bad I haven't checked in! I have been super super busy w/ work & getting stuff wrapped up in my classes. 2 more weeks & I will be graduated! I am so excited & just counting down!
Had my Dr.'s appointment on Wednesday and my blood pressure was high yet again then it came down to 100/50 in a matter of minutes so I go back on Tuesday & if its high, I am being taken out of work and put on bedrest. Other than that, everything seems to be fine w/ me & the baby.
QOTD I will be taking 8 weeks off then going back to work on a flex schedule, meaning I can work from home when I need to & have flexible work house :)
Our shower is in 2 weeks & we cannot WAIT!
Hope everyone is doing well.

Deliciousjones - I love your belly shot!!! And your baby girl is BEAUTIFUL! How old is she?
Today I finally splurged on a few more maternity clothes. In the earlier months I was bargain shopping because I couldn't see myself spending big bucks on maternity clothes. But I need a few nice things that actually fit better and look good on me. I need to start making myself look better because I am getting bigger...my face is getting fatter, my neck is getting darker, and my nose is beginning to spread!!! :( So I need to do a little extra to make myself look nicer. I hate to see pregnant women looking TORE DOWN! So I went to Gap today and bought a couple of things. It pisses me off that the good stuff is never on sale for maternity stuff! I spent $58 on a pair of kacki (sp?) pants and $68 on a pair of jeans!! I plan on looking around more tomorrow so I can find something cute to wear to my shower next weekend!
Also today I went back for another brief 4-D ultrasound. Since the baby was not cooperating last time, I got to go back today for free. We got several really nice pictures. She was still hiding behind/between parts of the placenta, but we still got some good shots...here she is...

Craftgenius: Beautiful photos! You can see the joy in your faces.
Deliciousjones: Your daughter is precious. How will you ever say no with those eyes
I had my OB appt today and everything looks great. I get an U/S done on Tues and my next OB appt 7/21.
QOTD: Deciding whether or not to go back to work after a new baby is a tough decision, especially when your are used to the comforts of having two incomes. For my family, it just worked out better for me to be a SAHM, I love it. But I have friends who have decided to go back to work after maternity leave and it was tough for them at first leaving baby with someone else but it all worked out in the end because that is what was best for their own family.
STD? I can't figure out what that stands for here.
I'll be going back. We have to have my income to pay the mortgage, plus I have the health insurance and 401(k) benefits, since DH is self-employed and just starting out. Ideal? Not at all. But we'll make do.
We won't be going for classes/hospital tour until Aug. 15! I know, I know - but the only other time it was offered was this weekend, and DH had to be out of town.
Our A/C finally got fixed at home this morning - which is great timing since we're supposed to have a heatwave this weekend.
I also got some new maternity clothes today. I'm OK on pants, but I needed at least one more pair of shorts, and also got two work shirts and a big stretchy tee at Target.

Craft You look absolutely fab in your pics and I love the one where your hubby looks surprised- looks like fun! Also the baby bloks are sweet and the one that is cropped just above your mouth is so cool!
Djones Where do you guys luck out with such awesome photos! And what a yummy girl you have!
QOTD1 Yep at weds 32 weeker appt It was tender when OB felt my belly. He sort of onehandedly squeezed my lower uterus- I am guessing checking to see if that is the head.
QOTD2 Don't get me started! I stated in an email to my boss- and office mngr that I would be taking 12 weeks back in FEB. I heard through the grapevine that boss siad " nope , only 8" but no one ever told me!
So I am taking 12 and once I am actually gone I will re-send the orig email to re-state the issue. URGH!
Monetarily it is hard to do so long - no FMLA since I am in an office with 3 employees only- so we had to save save save!
I swam today- it was awesome! I didn't realize how great until I got out and as I climbed the ladder- I felt like someone hung 50 lbs of pressure on my back! urgh. I am swimming tomorrow too. I hope anyhow! We have to rely on friends for it!
Dh has been gone since thurs night- not coming home until sun night- I thought I could stretch out in bed, but DS is on me like glue. I swapped sides last night and he only woke up in hysteria thinking I was gone. that was a mistake!
I have to drink something , am parched and get back to bed! need some zzzzzz's big time!

Doesn't it feel great in the water??? I have just started taking water aerobics, and it is the greatest! The worst part, I agree with you...getting out. It is like 100 lbs being instantly put back on. Yuck!

koala Oh yeah- I wish I had the insight to take a class like that!
Today I swam again and got FRIED! That will teach me . I also got those lovely preggo brown spots on my back! Wierd.
I have jury duty this next week. Gosh I feel like I am repeating myself- so sorry if I am. But I am hoping they see my bigness and think- OH NO_ get her out of here! Knock wood- I won't have to go or if I do get stuck on anything too long.
It is hotter than hot here. 98 today. They said 105 tomorrow- and I am in WI. Are you all cooking?

I woke up today with a nasty little cold. Blech.
It's hotter than he!! here in Philadelphia. It's supposed to go up into the high 90's for the next week I think. The heat has never bothered me until now. I don't even want to let the dog out!!
I'm taking 8 weeks of maternity leave and then going back to work 2-3 days a week. I work in a classified environment so I cannot work from home... I would love that. I also work as a real estate agent whenever I can find the time. It's a nice little side gig.
I have been starving lately. I wake up in the middle of the night and go downstairs and pig out.

I know, I wish I would have discovered the water aerobics sooner! Oh well...I guess chasing after DD was enough exercise. :)
Oh, yeah, we are cooking out here too...I am in So Cal (not near the ocean) and we have been in the 100s for about 2 weeks (maybe a *few* high 90's in there). Our energy bill has been insane. Oh well, not as insane as I would be w/out the A/C. :)
DH comes back tomorrow! Yeah! He's only been gone since Thursday afternoon, and I've been just fine without him, even liked having some extra alone time, but it's time for him to be back now!
I have been feeling very creative lately - anyone else? I have plans for baby's room, but don't want to get started till furniture is all arranged and well, if we find out if it's Matthew or Lauren! ;)
We're supposed to be getting into the high 90's the next few days, with "real feel" temps (whatever that means, I think they say that around here because of the humidity?) of 105 degrees. Sooooo glad the A/C got fixed yesterday and is finally working! I may just have to get out that maternity swim suit and hit the condo pool!

funny! i've switched sides before and dd fell off the bed! she kept scooting over looking for me :p
the heat i had no idea it would bother me this much, i do my best to not leave the house, it totally sucks the life out of me. i don't know what the real temp was yesterday, but when we left for dinner at 6 last night, the temp on the car was 110  thankfully, it's usually chilly in the house, so i don't have any issues w/ cooking.
i forgot who mentioned staying home for the first year if you can stay home, i think going back to work after a year is perfect. i've always wanted to be a sahm, but once my dd hit a year old, i actually felt bad that she wasn't in daycare. at that age she just seemed to enjoy organized activities and playing with other kids more -- stuff she would have in daycare. plus, that was the time that i felt more relaxed about leaving her with others. if i had a career that i loved, it would've been a perfect time to go back.

I agree! I am a SAHM, but I have often thought that if I were to go back, a year would have been a good time.

I agree as well. We were going to put Aidan in nursery school in September but have now pushed it back to January. We don't want him thinking that we're trying to get rid of him when the new baby gets here.
I do feel bad that Aidan doesn't interact with other children more. He is painfully shy around people he doesn't know. I think that's a direct link to him being always home. He doesn't go to a sitter. When I work my DH is home with him and vice versa.
I have a very nasty cold that my MIL gave my DS who then gave it to me. Add that to me breaking 2 of my toes last night (cat tripped me in the laundry room), sciatica, and throwing up, I'm having a banner Sunday. They can't to anything about my toes, I have to keep them taped together. I look ridiculous.

Today I finally purchased my baby's stroller and car seat! YEAH! I've gone back and forth about this for months. I registered for the Graco Metrolite travel system. Today I went with all intentions of bringing it home. But when I looked at it again, it just looked so much less sturdy than the rest of the strollers. I talked to a sales lady and she showed me how to fold it up and I had a HARD TIME! I had a MUCH easier time folding up the Graco Quattro Tour LX stroller (for which you have to buy the matching SnugRide car seat separately). The Quattro is heavier, but the sales lady said that it would last much longer. So...her is my baby's new stroller and car seat...the Graco Quattro Tour LX stroller with matching SnugRide car seat in the Windsor pattern...

Dotsie - OUCH! That sounds like a rough weekend. Sorry about your cold and the toes and the puking. No fun!
CraftGenious - we registered for the same infant seat! SO CUTE! We decided on the Metrolite, because I'm short and a weakling and wanted something lighterweight. I don't know how much we'll use a stroller, so we don't really need a heavy-duty type. Or maybe we will. Who knows??? ;)
I did some retail therapy this weekend. Bought the highly-recommended Thinking Woman's Guide to Better Childbirth, and clothes at Target and Motherhood. 6 shirts and another pair of shorts and maternity granny panties. It's time, I'm afraid.
I also cleaned the house like a mad woman. DH was away Thursday through this evening, and he said "What, did you clean all weekend?" Nope, but it sure is all tidy now!

QOTD: I am a SAHM & will continue to be. After my oldest was born I went back to work after 13 weeks & it was hard leaving her. I got laid off when she was 11 months old & have been home with them since. I agree on wanting your child to want the interaction once they are older. My dd starts preschool, 2x a week, in September. Her first day is exactly one week after my c-section. I think it is going to be a tough adjustment because she is so used to being with me 24/7 now, when she was a baby she had no clue.
Dorothy - hope you feel better soon! What a day.
The heat is really brutal, thank God for central air:)
QOTD - Underwear. Ladies, let's mention the unmentionables.
My bras are looking rather haggard and not terribly supportive these days. Do I switch to nursing bras now? I plan to BF as long as possible, hopefully a year+, so it makes no sense to buy regular bras now. Have you ever been measured? Where? And gah! How embarrassing! I know, I know, it's their job, they do it all the time. I still just don't want to have to ask for help!
Undies. My regular cute string bikinis from VS are cutting into my stomach, and are uncomfortable. I just broke down today and got a 4-pack of high-legged briefs at Motherhood/Mimi Maternity/whatever. Are you still in regular underwear? Are you wearing giant granny panties and reveling inthe comfort? Inquiring minds want to know!
Dotsie

My bras are pathetic. I refuse to buy any new ones until after the baby is born.
Undies ~ I've been wearing granny panties or the boy cut undies. I couldn't care less what I look like at this point. All I want to be is comfortable.

Guten Morgen from Germany ladies. The flight went well as I was upgraded to business and actually got some sleep as well as some darn fine meals! I was hoping to escape the heat, but I seem to have brought it with as it is going to be in the 90's here today and they don't have AC in the office or in the hotel. Ugh. I am tring to not be a baby about it, but I HATE sweating like a pig.
{B} I just started reading the book "Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth" on the plane. I am amazed to read some of the facts and love that she actually cites her sources (I'm a technical, scientific person and love to do my own research on topics that interest me) so you can look up the research and form your own opinion. I'm also more amd more happy that I am using a midwife who is all about less interventions the more that I read.
Underwear under there I really wanted to buy some granny pants the other day, but couldn't find any that fit well enough to invest in. Plus, many of my pants are the low rise style, so I couldn't wear the granny pants with them anyway. As for bras, I need new ones, but am also wondering if I should be looking at nursing bras at this point instead of regular ones. Hopefully some ROs will respond. When people nurse, do they only wear nursing bras, or can you wear regular bras if you are pumping (while at work, say)?
roadrunner
07-17-2006, 03:47 AM
Underwear ~ I'm still wearing regular bikini or boy cut undies, but in size large! I either wear no undies (quite often) or the regular ones. I cannot handle wearing anything on my belly, everything must be low rise.
Bras? Well, for me, I'm normally barely an A cup, but I did buy a few B cups after my last pregnancy, while I was nursing (not nursing bras). I'm getting great use out of these B cups now. I also bought a couple of new nursing bras a few months back. Personally, I barely wore nursing bras while nursing. I preferred a regular bra (no underwire) that I could just pull up over the boob. Of course, I have teeny-tiny boobies!!
Everytime I login to this thread now, my first thought is 'Wonder if anyone had their baby yet?" Isn't that wild?? I mean, it is likely that at least one of us will go early!
I thought my water broke last night. Scared me. I felt a sorta gush, but it really stung. It didn't happen again, so it wasn't my water, but it was weird.
I have to go to the dentist this morning - I'm not looking forward to that. Then I have to go to the carpet store to bring home some samples, and the paint store for some paint chips. We HAVE to get Claire's room started this week, so we can move her, and get the baby's room ready. We're really leaving things to the last minute this time, and it is now starting to stress me out.
Dotsie ~ Ouch! Hope you feel better soon!
Qotd: SAHM ~ Well, I've got a year off, and I'm seriously wondering if I will be able to handle it. I have zero desire to be a SAHM, but I am extremely grateful that I have the option to take the year off with pay. But, I do plan on putting Claire into nursery school in March when she turns three, because she loves to be with other kids, and I think it will be a great experience for her. Probably for 1 or 2 days a week I figure.

Now that I am all caught up:
Dotsie: I am so sorry you are having such a rough time! I can totally sympathize with you! I hope that things start looking up sooner for you!
craftgenius: That stroller is GORGEOUS!! I tell ya, things have come a LONG way as far as style in the last 4 years!
b: Shopping is always fun. I think that is one thing I'm really missing this time around because we have everything(and I know that I won't be pregnant again, so I can't even justify buying new clothes for me!) and I really think the whole shopping thing is a part of what makes being pregnant exciting!
Underwear: I have bought almost all of my nursing bras at Motherhood because I had a difficult time finding a brick and mortar that carried them in the size I need (I wear a 44E-46E.) I pretty much stopped buying "regular" bras as soon as I got pregnant and I believe that most of us are far enough along that you can safely buy a few nursing bras to get you through. I know that Motherhood will fit you and if I remember correctly as far as sizing goes, you need to go up one cup size from what you are wearing now. But they will be able to tell you for sure.
Work: Well, I'm a SAHM and have been for 3 years now. I couldn't handle being away from my daughter and well, with my health issues, work isn't so feasible anyway. Besides that, it would cost me more to put 3 kids in daycare than I would make, so it's totally not worth it. But as far as socialization goes, my daughter is enrolled in classes and activities and I do take care of other children when my health allows. I have however discussed that come Christmas time this year that I may want to work somewhere part-time, just to get away from the kids for a little bit and get that discount! ;)
Update on Me:
Well, things are just, if I could quit being a klutz, things would be much better. I broke my baby toe on Thursday and cut it pretty deep (I am frequently breaking that toe!) when I hit it on the corner of the dresser. Then on Friday, my son climbed up on the table and I caught him just as he was throwing a glass jar onto the floor, so I lunged to grab the jar and wound up losing my footing, stepping on a toy, slipping and landed in the splits. Well, I am pretty sure I pulled a groin muscle because it hurts to stand, it hurts to walk(and I'm lucky if one step takes me about 2 inches.) I think if it's not feeling better by tonight, I'll be going to see the doctor. It's been pretty hot here, it was in the 90's all weekend and today it is supposed to be 98, so I'm hoping that DH is up for a trip to the pool because I am not even attempting to take 2 kids by myself to the pool, particularly when I'm in this shape!

bras & underwear - I am still in regular bras, but have bought a few new ones recently. With DD, I wore the nursing bras for about 4 - 5 months, but then realized I could just about as easily move a regular bra to the side. So I haven't been hesitant to buy new bras in my new size. (I just discovered the IPEX Wireless bra by Vic. Secret, and it is SUPER comfy, but supportive.)
I have still been wearing VS "Pink" underwear (thongs).
reminder - I almost totally forgot last time to buy some "full butt" undies (for the pads we are lucky to wear for 6 weeks). All my undies were thong, and I didn't even think of that being an issue until like 3 days before DD was born (which was after my due date.)

LMC ~ I am so sorry!! I broke my baby toe and the one next to it on my left foot. I hope you're feeling better.
Twink ~ Lucky you to be in Germany. I'm glad you had a safe and comfortable flight. Try to stay cool.
Dawny ~ We really have to get cracking on the rooms as well. We're in the process of redoing our master bedroom. The room we're currently in will be Aidan's. The nursery will stay the same and will obviously be Conor's. We still have to drywall our room and get the trim and woodwork up. We have about 7-8 weeks to get this done. We're trying to get it done before the baby gets here. We figure Aidan sleeps with us now, he can continue to do so for a few months while we gets his new room ready.

Hey all - things have been pretty busy for me lately.
Not only is it busy time at work, but I just found out I got a new job. So yes, I'll be starting at new job at 32 weeks pregnant. They know I'm pregnant (obviously) and are fine with that, but I wonder how much I'll be able to concentrate for the weeks I'm there before leave.
QOTD - Maternity Leave - I'll be taking 12 weeks. I took 12 weeks last time and that seemed ok to me. I think if you know you're going to be home longer, you'd likely make more of an effort to meet other SAHM's, get into classes etc. For me after the initial exhaustion and just getting used to things wore off I got, well, bored. I didn't know anyone at home, and DS was too little to really require much or to give back much. I didn't want to get involved in any activities or groups because I knew that I'd only be able to participate for a few weeks and I just ended up really lonely. That said, I think if I'd stayed home even a month or two longer, when DS really got to be more interactive and fun that going back to work would have been much more difficult. For me the transition, while not easy, was eased because for my first month back at work my sister (home from grad school for the summer) watched DS so I knew he was with someone who loved him and whom I trusted. Having her care for him as a buffer made going back to work easier and when we did transition him into a center daycare, at 16 weeks old, I was at least used to not being with him all day.
This time I think I'll have a roughly similar arrangement in that I'll need to go back to work aftre 12 weeks - which I estimate will be about December 15th. My mom will watch the new baby until he has a spot available in the daycare, and that spot will likely come up the first week of January. So this time I'll have my mom as a buffer for a few weeks to get me more used to leaving him.
For our family I am the primary breadwinner, so there is no question as to whether I would return to work. What we're trying to figure out now is whether, once the boys get older, DH will be able to adjust his schedule so that he works early hours and can be home at the end of the school day. Here's hoping!
QOTD Underwear - I'm only wearing maternity low rise bikinis these days. I love my Old Navy ones, and the ones from Kohls are just eh. I've got some of the granny panties, but at the moment they aren't that comfy. Just to re-iterate what someone said above, you WILL NEED something with butt coverage (ie not a thong or g-string) after the baby is born, and they are likely to get, uh, messy at first. So if you don't normally wear undies like that I'd suggest you head to target and buy some that aren't expensive so you're not making a real investment for six weeks of panties, but you've got something ready.
As to bras, none of mine fit. I desperately need new ones, that fit, but I've just been hesitant about being fit. I'm a larger size (maybe 42DD?) sothey aren't that easy to come by. Last time I had mostly inexpensive nursing bras, and I really didn't like them as much as the one expensive one I had. This time I may spring for some nicer ones (unfortunately I have no recommedations on those). For me a regular bra was kind of difficult to wear, because the girls are so big it's hard to haul the bottom up over the boob.
Ack... boss needs something asap - I'll BBL...
Can I get fitted at Macy's? Do they carry nursing bras?
I really feel like I'm in totally the wrong size, and being a busty lady to begin with, it's making me self conscious.

Undies: I'm still wearing my usual VS French-cut cotton panties. I did buy some maternity panties from Old Navy and I hate them. :(
Dionysios & I attended our one-day crash childbirthing class on Saturday. The class was very informative, going into detail about the entire labor process, what's happening with mom's body and her emotional state. ;) I would have liked to have done a little more on breathing and relaxation techniques, but a lot of my questions about the how and when were answered, including the procedural ones about what happens at the hospital.
I'm still pretty Zen about the whole thing. I understand that there will be pain, but that it will be finite. I know that Dionysios will be with me, supporting and encouraging me. I'm not really scared of childbirth.
What I am now less certain about it if/when I'll get an epidural. I really like a lot of the labor techniques offered at the hospital, like the birthing ball, the hot tub, the shower, and just plain old walking around, which you can't do once the epidural is administered. So I think I will get the pain med (Numorphan or something like that) and then try as much as I can without the epidural. If I ask for it eventually, so be it.

Im with you Di, I dont want an Epi because I want to be able to move around! The tub was what got me thru with DS, I was stuck at 8 cm for what seemed like FOREVER! and the doctor was getting impatient with me when she got called to an emergency, so the nurse (my godsend!) asked if I wanted to get in the tub to try and relax me and get me to 10 cm, I got in there and it was no time at all I was at 10 and WHOOSH! Transition hit me! (And I do mean WHOOSH IT HIT ME) that was the most intense feeling I ever had! I will definately not hesitate to ask to have a bath drawn again this time if I am struggling in labor...

[QUOTE][DH comes back tomorrow! Yeah! He's only been gone since Thursday afternoon, and I've been just fine without him, even liked having some extra alone time, but it's time for him to be back now!
/QUOTE]
Hee hee funny you mention that. DH was gone thurs thru sun ( although the last time I saw him longer than 15 mins was the past sunday.
He was like " Did you miss me" HONESTLY? no- that is what it is like being me. He is home rarely and when he is it is when I am sleeping- or he is sleeping. We are total opposites. He is a late nighter and I am an early morning person.

I have to report to jury duty tomorrow. I hope they take one look at me and boot me out the door. Hmm we will see. I may milk it a little to have some free time of my own. This is my vacation week from work after all.

You don't look like a heffer!!! You look really good. I love the shirt btw. Your DH and DS are very handsome.
I'm going to try and take a pic or two this week and post it. I need a haircut and eyebrow wax desperately. I want to do that before I take any pics.
Oh my gosh, please tell me I am not the only one. No matter how early I go to bed and how many naps I take I am constantly exhausted! I went to bed at 10pm last night and didn't get up till 7am (tossed and turned a lot all night though) and it is now 11am ... all I can think of is going home to bed. This has been on going for a couple of weeks now.
Epi put me on team I wanna move around. I really don't mind pain that much if I know what is causing it. I know this is a whole new level of pain but I believe I can get through it. I am not 100% against pain relief but I would prefere something other than an Epi.

I can't sleep at all. No matter what time I go to bed. I'm uncomfortable and I'm always hot even with the air on. I've never been able to take naps so that's not an option for me.
Put me on team EPI. I really surprised myself with the tolerance level I had when I gave birth to Aidan. I was able to hold off for 12 hours with no pain meds at all. I finally gave in and it was sheer bliss. I will be doing the same this time around.

Maternity Leave: I plan to take as much STD as possible, then the rest of the year off without pay. My company doesn't fall under FMLA (too small), but I've already told them my plans and they seem ok with it. (It translates into about 15 weeks.) It just doesn't make sense to me to come back to work RIGHT before the holidays. After, I plan to return to work. I'm hoping (and I'm pretty sure) that my company values me enough to be flexible about my hours, and hopefully they might be able to offer me a chance to work from home. I may start back part time, though. I have a 45 minute commute to get here and another 45 to get home, so the less I have to do that the better! Still haven't seriously looked into childcare yet, though.
Underwear: I was holding true to my VS V-strings (can't stand panty lines!), and low rise maternity bikinis from Motherhood and Old Navy until a few weeks ago. Now, I'm totally on bikinis, and I find the ON ones really comfortable. I think I buy a size bigger just for the comfort.
Heat: I am miserable if I'm out in it. I had to work downtown yesterday, and it was torture walking several blocks from my building to the Metro in the afternoon. Ugh. We've been eating out a lot, because I can't stand heating up the kitchen with the oven. I MUST make it to a pool sometime soon!
Twink - Glad you made it to Germany, that's great that you got upgraded!
LMC - Yikes! Be careful!
----
We picked out a travel system this weekend. We decided to go with the MetroLite stroller, but still wanted the Graco Snugride:
http://trus.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/pTRU1-2996312dt.jpg
We tried out the Quattro Tour, but found it was just too big for our needs.
I have my first shower this weekend, with MIL and SIL in Pittsburgh. I will know about 5-6 people there (some family and friends of MIL), but FIL says that there are a "ton" of people coming. Yikes! I've been a good girl, though, and haven't peeked at our registry!

MSH- I am with you. If my 3 year old napped I would sleep every afternoon. I might just put some Dora on for her so I can "rest my eyes".
Underwear- I can still get away with my regular ones because they go under my belly. I have big old grannies tucked away that I wore post-baby in the past...they are so getting thrown out after I am done this time:)
We just had another ultrasound. Baby is looking good. Estimated weight is 4 lbs 13 oz, about 60% percentile. The u/s tech (who I am getting to know rather well) says the femurs are long & baby will have long legs:) I go back again in 4 weeks. Regular OBs appointment tomorrow.

QOTD ~ Is anyone planning on banking their baby's cord blood? We didn't with Aidan and really regret it. I think we're going to do it this time. I just got some info from Cord Blood Registry.
Tomorrow is my u/s to make sure the baby isn't too big. I've never had a level I u/s before. I have to drink 48 oz of water 30 minutes prior to the u/s.

So tired, so cranky. So on the super-mood swing ride. Ugh.
Next mw appts: 7/27 and 8/10.
Family shower moved to 8/20
Sleepiness - yep, right there with ya. I think it's the baby taking room under my rib cage, making it harder to breath. I can't really ever seem to have enough breathe, and that makes you sleepy. I yawn all the time, too, which is indicative of too little oxygen, I guess.
Had to take two of our three kitties tto the vet today. $378 later... she didn't tell us anything we didn't already know. But we got some meds, she drew blood on the fat boy and we have to go back in 2 weeks with a fecal sample. FUN! DH will be collecting that, thankyouverymuch!
Lots of movement these days. It's fun to watch my belly move all by itself!

camdynlyn - thank you so much for your reply about the snoogle. you are the only one that replied ... i was surprised b/c people on here seem to be crazy about it. i ended up ordering it and i am sleeping 100x better ... atleast i am not waking up every 2 hrs now. but, you are right ... belly support isn't there. that seems odd to me! however, i've been able to twist it around to support my belly, but then it's hard to get up when i have to go potty. thanks again!
babywish - hey girl! i'm getting maternity shots on sunday. i'm getting some semi-nude (i think - mind over matter! LOL!) and john and i are getting some together. here is the link to our photographer ... http://www.morelandphoto-art.com or http://tricialeephotography.com ... she has 2 websites ... i've done a lot of investigating and i really like this work better than others or the price is more reasonable (although, still pricey for the actual prints). i didn't know anyone in ATL that had them taken so i spent a lot of time looking at various photographers. check our her sites and i'll tell you how the pics go on sunday!
it is crazy we are due around the same time. I think I read you are due Sept5? If so - we are due the same date! Ida is also pregnant and V just had a baby! crazy!! we'll need to have a playgroup! are you going back to work?

Heat~ UGH! I am a sweaty pig all the time it seems! Is it unbelievably hot in your parts of the world? It was 107 today in Dallas. I hear it has been really hot in most other places, too. We are supposed to get a "cool" front this weekend with highs around 96 or 97. Yep, that's a cool front.

Underwear - I've stuck with the ones I've always had, low cut bikini. I highly suggest granny panties for after delivery!
Maternity Leave - I've been a SAHM since April. I took 10 weeks off with my last DD, 6 weeks were paid and 4 weeks were unpaid leave.
EPI - I do not want one. I had DD #1 natural and it was great. DD #2 was induced with pitocin and I couldn't handle it. I got the EPI but it didn't work right. I was stuck in the bed already because my water had broke and my hospital doesn't let you up from then on.
Heat - ICK!! I agree with UTChick it is hot! I'm in Fort Worth. I haven't been going to get the mail until 8:00 at night and it's still 100!!
I went to the OB today. I've been having a lot of BH (all day long) and cramping. They moved my appointment up from Thursday to today. I lost another 4 pounds!! Have no clue how. I forget what my total is but I think I'm down around 18 pounds or close to it. The checked my cervix and it is getting soft. They said it could be from all the BH or because this is my 3rd child and things can happen early. I go back on August 1. It will be my 36 week appointment and they will check my cervix again.

I registered Dionysios & me for 2 more classes: breastfeeding and infant care.
I need to find out how much the hospital charges insurance companies for a private room. CIGNA (my insurance co.) will pay 100% for a semi-private, so I want to find out how much extra we'd pay if I requested a private room.
QOTD: are you going to be in a private or semi-private room? Is your choice due to the hospital (i.e., all the post-partum rooms are private or semi) or your insurance company?
There is no extra charge for an anesthesiologist in case I do get the epi. It's covered under the maternity benefit.
CIGNA will not pay for a breast pump, unless there is a medical reason why mom & baby are separated. Even then, they'll only pay for a manual. So, time to research good prices online for Ameda pumps. ;)
My request to my employer for part-time status was APPROVED! :D
As of my return from maternity/FMLA leave in December, I will work a 32 hour week (Mon-Th) and be off on Fridays. Dionysios works a 9/80, so every other Friday the 3 of us will be at home together! This also means that we will only have to pay for 4 days of daycare.
My salary and PTO accrual will be pro-rated to 80%, but that's ok. The arrangement is approved for a trial basis of 4 months, but my boss & I don't think it will be an issue to extend. I think the CFO wanted the trial basis bit.
My ticker says 60 days.

QOTD
I am going to have a private room because my hospital only has private LDR and postpartum rooms. I have no idea what my insurance policy is regarding that...maybe I should double check. Surely it is covered if the hospital only has private rooms, right? Hmm...

rooms: all of the hospitals that i have to choose from have private rooms. i had a private room when my daughter was born and it was fully covered.
tgoody: i think you'll love having maternity shots done! i did them last week and had a blast and i'm so glad that i have them. i didn't see her print prices online but i did see that she sells proofs for $5 and that's icnredibly dirt cheap for quality photography, so i think you got a good deal. :)
sleep: for some crazy reason, i've been sleeping beautifully for 2-3 nights. my husband and i went away for a spa weekend and i think the massages helped.
maternity leave: i own my own business and can make my own schedule. i'm taking my last clients on august 15, giving me a month to finish everything up before the baby's arrival. i have sessions scheduled starting november 3 which will be tough but it's my busiest time of year. my MIL will be taking the girls while i'm shooting and proofing and then we're hiring a part-time nanny to start after the holidays.

dionysia: that's great about getting your pt schedule approved. extra great that you'll get so many long weekends together! i would love that!

Private rooms My insurance covers semi-private, but the hospital only has pirvate - so then they cover the chepaest type of room which works out to be private. Handy - eh?
di If you are comfortable with buying used, craigslist.com seems to have a good supply of breast pumps available at very reasonable prices. I picked up a Medela Pumpo in Style for $75 with all the attachments and different charging methods. All I have to do is buy new tubing and some more of the disposable millk bags.
2jacks So, who is Gary Allen?
Bra fitting I thought that it would be really awkward, but the woman knew how crazy it is to be pg and trying to buy a bra, so she was very helpful and kind. Plus, she was a pg lover, so it gave us something to talk about while she measured and help me try things on.
QOTD - Pregnancy Massage The post from edlicious about going to a spa (yes, I'm jealous!) made me wonder if anyone has had a pregnancy massage? I would love to get one, but am not sure how comfortable it would be - do you ever lay on your stomach for it or just sides and back?
Off to work - have a great day ladies!

QOTD - My insurance only covers a private room if that is all that is available, since my hospital only has private rooms then it is covered 100%.
Pregnancy Massage - I had several with DD #2. The spa I go to has a special table and a "hole" drops out of the middle of the table so you can lay on your belly!! It is wonderful!! I hate to lay on my belly normally but it was great. I told them I would have paid the full price just for the chance to lay on the table for an hour and nap! Check with each spa first, some don't do massages after a certain stage. Mine won't do them after 36 weeks. They have a fear of putting you into labor before your ready. Even with a doc note they won't do them. Other's will do them no matter what.

Ugh, I am so behind... sorry if I don't do too many SO's. My memory is getting worse with all the sleep deprivation...
preg massage I am seriously considering getting one of them. But first I have to find a salon that does them. Oh, how I would love to lay on my stomach for a while!
STD I'm probably going to take off 8wks. I think I'll go nuts if I go much longer than that (I am not meant to be a SAHM). I will be going back half time to avoid daycare. Luckily both DH and I have flexible jobs, and we'll be moving next summer to a new state anyway. I'll go back full time after the move.
Di That's great news about having your part time status approved!
Private rooms our hospital also only has private rooms. (thank god!)
Epi Definitely having one, but probably not right away since I am hoping to walk around a bit. At least that's the plan...
undies I am still wearing my low cut hipsters from Gap. Will probably get granny panties for pp, though.
Cord blood I will definitely NOT be doing this. It is an unregulated industry playing off the fears of pregnant moms trying to do their best for their babies. Plus, the science just isn't there yet.
Dotsie good luck at your u/s today.
Yesturday was our hospital tour. Not very exciting. They did mention that my two pain relief options are a morphine drip and/or the epi. I'll have to do some research on morphine. Don't know anything about it.
Have a great day ladies. Careful of those tootsies, it seems like they are prone to accidents lately! Maybe because they are quickly disappearing below our bumps...
Time off - I get 6 weeks fully paid, plus 1 week of sick days before STD kicks in. Then I take vacation time, if I don't want to continue using the 6 more weeks of unpaid STD. So, I'll have 8 weeks. Sounds awfully short already. But, DH will be home with us Tuesdays and Thursdays, and baby will only have to go to MIL's for about 4 hours, two days a week. (He works days, I work nights... it's odd)
No cord blood banking for us. First, money is way too tight right now, and secondly, I just truly don't believe it's real, reliable, or useful.
Massage - I go see DH for an adjustment once a week, and it's heavenly! It's not a massage, but I don't really care for massages. I get "touched-out" really quickly, especially with strangers.
Private rooms - that's all my hospital offers, and my OB/GYN's office only uses this one hospital, so insurance has to cover it.
Congrats on your PT approval, Di!
QOTD: Our hospital only has private L&D rooms but they have ward, semi-private and private PP rooms. I will request a private room, however ins only covers semi-private. The difference is only $30 CND and would be well worth it in my mind, especially if I end up staying a night or two (I hope to go home within 24 hours as my mom will be with me and she is a nurse).
Massage: I do want one but cannot decide if I should to the spa or a chiro. I really don't want to go back to the chiro. I went a few weeks back due to a a hip problem (I believe it was caused by sitting on bleachers on a damp and chilly night in combination with being PG) and they kept wanting me to come back even when I felt just fine and the treatment really didn't make a difference at all.
Time off: I will be scheduled to take 12 months off but may only use 10 as a full year sounds crazy to me. However, I hope to be able to find another job or possibly go back to school after the baby. This would mean I have to make up my mind as to the career I truely want.
Di congrats on getting approved for PT.

Gary Allen He is apparently a country star. Didn't know until it was so pointed out to me! He does sing a song that is on reg radio too, I forget the name but you would prob recognize it. I will have to search it out because it is one I like too.
I got picked for jury duty yesterday and sat through a trial. It was a fender bender. man turned towards a car, swiped her and she later complained of ab cramping & neck and back ( she was 3 months pg) We were there from 7:30-7pm. I was one that wouldn't agree with everyone else. Figures. I felt her claims were goofy and we decided finally to pay her $0 pain and suffering and $1501 med bills. I didn't want to pay med bills since she had been to ER for ab cramps 10 days prior and pretty much every year since she was 9!
Oh well.
I didn't have to go today- but have to call tonight to see about Thurs. I thougth that is you completed a trial you were exempt for the week- guess not!

private rooms last hospital had both private and semi, if you wanted private it was $250. per night and it had to be paid when you were admitted. they literally sent dh down to pay $500. as they started checking me out. this hospital only has private and during the tour they said since that's all they offer, insurance has to cover it.
preg massages i've been considering it this time. i don't know why though, i'm probably the only person who hates massages, they make me feel all groggy, sore and nauseaus. *but* a weekend away does sound heavenly. i've been in such a foul mood lately that dh isn't even talking to me  he *never* does that. i'm so miserable, tired and uncomfortable and going on major burnout w/ my 2 yr. old. i'm also starting to stress myself out that nothing is getting accomplished around this house.

I have my regualr dr's appt on Friday. I somehow think that this baby is going to be a few weeks early. The baby is fully engaged, head down. The tech said he wouldn't be surprised if I was back in the hospital tonight to have the baby. I am panicking like you wouldn't believe. I'm going down to the garage today and digging all of my baby gear out and getting it ready. I'm also going to get my hospital bag ready as well. OMG! Dotsie! That's gonna be one big baby if her stays in there until full term!! Yeah, I think I'd pack my hospital bag as well. Come to think of it, that's probably a good idea for the rest of us too! which leads to a QOTD:
Hopsital Bag When will you pack it, and what are you packing?
I think I'll pack mine next week (34 weeks), just in case. I didn't have a bag packed with #1, and Dh just threw a few things together for me. This time, I'll be sure to pack:
- Good pads (the hospital ones were terrible and uncomfy)
- nursing pads
- toothbrush
- toothpaste
- contact solution
- disposable washcloths (the huggies ones with baby wash on them!)
- shampoo/ conditioner
- handcream/ facecream
- clothes (comfy undies, yoga pants, loose shorts, tank tops, t-shirts, sports/nurshing bras/ socks, P.Js)
- slippers/ flip flops
- coming home outfit for the baby (probably just basic white sleepers, since the baby will be a surprise!)
That's all I can think of right now. Seems like a lot of stuff, but it's really not. Will all fit into a small overnight bag. The hospital won't let me leave until what they call "Day 3" (third day after having the baby), so long as the baby is gaining weight.
Construction on Claire's new room has begun. FIL has been plastering all day. He will start painting in a couple of days. I ordered the carpeting for all three bedrooms this morning, it will be installed on july 31st. Claire's new bedroom furniture has been ordered and should be here on Aug. 1st. So, once we get her settled in her new room, we can get the baby's room straightened out. Finally, things are starting to get going. But, now mu house is a huge mess, and I have ton of organizing to do over the next few weeks!

Dotsie I would be freaking too! I think I would be doing exactly what you are- scrambling around to get things together and therefore causing that labor to come on faster. What if he cooks longer- you will have one big linebacker on your hands!
hospital bag I am not packing one this time- just going to throw together my glasses & contact stuff- TB & paste, toiletries ( I think I will have them all together hanging on bathroom door- dummy proof for anyone fetching them for me if I am not home. And my own robe. Then I can send for an outfit & home clothes for me. I brought too much last time.

Hey ladies,
So I have been officially put on disability as of my appointment on Tuesday. My blood pressure has been high (139/79) so my Dr. just said she was taking me out of work completely. I get to go into the hospital 2 times a week & get my blood pressure taken, baby's heart rate monitored & ultrasound to check on my fluid. I had my first appointment for this today and baby is doing excellent! The fluid level was more than perfect, his heartrate was excellent & he is head down :) So I will be trying to take it easy and the best thing is I am done with school as of next week so that will probably help relieve some of my stress.
Hope everyone is doing well! Wonder who will be the first to have their baby since we really are all close to going at any given moment! Take care everyone :)

2jacks They probably left you on the jury thinking that you would sympathetic to another pregnant person. Fooled them, huh!
Dotsie Woah - big baby already. The good news is that the lungs may be fully developed already so if you go early, a bigger baby is better, right?
QOTD - Hospital Bag For me: in addition to the regular toiletries, I will need to pack my granny underwear (which I still have to buy), a robe, phone numbers, camera, baby book (for hand and foot prints), slipper socks, and a going home outfit. For baby: nail clippers and going home outfit. For DH: toiletries, change of clothes, birthing books from Bradley course, massage tool, and a gift for me (really hoping he remembers to do something - a card if nothing else).

My SIL was due on th 17th and hasn't had her baby yet. She has been scheduled for an induction on 27th, if nothing happens by that time. Poor girl is miserable. I sent her a list that I found of things to try to naturally induce labor in hopes of helping. Since I feel that I will likely go over, I figured the research would pay off in a few months for me. :)

twink Tell her to try eating lots of fresh pineapple. Not many people know about that one, but pineapple is a natural labour inducer. Unfortunately, I didn't know this before eating almost three in a week, then going into premature labour :o .

Hopsital Bag When will you pack it, and what are you packing?
I started packing mine last week.
So far I have a gown, snacks, receiving blanket, plain oufit for baby (may get another one later), magazines, and toiletries.
I'd still like to pack a book on breast feeding, a robe, and couple of other things. But then I don't want a big heavy bag either. :)

Baby shower - I am so excited about my baby shower which is this Saturday! I went shopping last weekend and bought myself an outfit to wear. Can't wait to see what all baby girl will be getting from everybody.

I have been reading along but is just so darn hard to keep up with this thread :). This is my attempt to do SO's, I am sorry if I left you out…
Tgoody03- OMG I did not know that Ida is prego too, I'll have to sneak in V's journal and say congrats to Ida. Have you seen V's baby yet? He looks adorable in the pictures! Now that I think about it I bet you Ida is having a girl, don’t ask me why but I think so (V and I boy and you and Ida girl… sounds like a great playgroup :)).
I looked over the website and I am loving all those pics, I sent them an email, please let me know how it goes, I am definitely going to do them, now is just a matter of with who.
dionysia- that is great that you got your PT approved!
Dotsie- I hope the baby stays put for a little longer.
Ocgatita- Sorry to hear about being put in bed rest, take it easy so the little one can bake a little longer.
Twink- add me to the group, I have the feeling this baby is there for a while.
Craftgenius- Love the prof shots, I am definitely going to do them.
This weekend is my shower, I am already stressing out, my SIL is coming down tomorrow with her daughter and my MIL. DH is out of town and wont be back until Saturday morning, don’t take me wrong I love spending time with SIL and my niece but I am stress out about their whole schedule/eating habits, I know she only feeds them organic stuff and I don’t know what to make for them, MIL and I are pretty good eaters, I actually have a blast every time she comes down. I had planned to take her to the movies and go out for dinner tomorrow night, but now with SIL and the girl we can't because she puts her to sleep at 7:30pm. Then Saturday morning I have my yoga class and DH is flying in at 6:30am from overseas, I think he is going to be too exhausted to do anything in the am and his niece is going to be ready to go and do stuff.. I think we have a long weekend ahead of us. Hopefully all will be ok.
Banking their baby's cord blood- I am thinking about it, my FIL is a dr and he was going to look into it.
Sleepiness – I am with you ladies, I can feel the baby up on my throat, sounds exaggerated but honestly that is the way I feel, especially when I drive… I can't wait to see how I feel for the last six weeks! :)
Undies- Sorry but I am a thong kind of girl, I can't wear regular underwear. I bought some maternity thongs at the beginning of the pregnancy and I am still using those (by the way they were awful quality but that just reiterates my opinion of Motherhood). My mom bought some regular ones for after the birth since I wont be able to wear the thongs.
Heat- Tell me about it, my weekends are spent either in doors with a/c or in the pool (literally in the water), otherwise I can't be out. Hopefully August doesn’t get much worse… I mean, how much worse can it get??
Private or semi-private room- my hospital only has like 7 semi-private and they use them as private anyways, so private for me. Unfortunately my insurance only pays for the semi-private, I am not sure how much the difference is, but for what I hear is not too much.
Bra-fitting – I was small to start with, but these puppies get bigger by the day, I have been using my sister's bra (I did not want to spend money on something I was not going to use after pregnancy), but I am going to have to get fitted and buy some nursing bras soon (for after I have the baby).
Pregnancy Massage- I still have a gc from xmas, I am actually thinking on using it next weekend, I cant' wait!
Epi- I don’t want it, but depending on how things go if I see that is unbearable then I will take it… I am not that sado :).
Hospital bag- Is it really time to start thinking on that? Man I am still in denial, I do NOT have anything yet, I guess I need to get my $hit together this weekend and so something about it.

Notice that there isn't a crib? That's because it's in the garage, getting sanded and refinished and put together. Hahaha! At 34 weeks! There is also no bedding, and no newborn T-shirts. I do have a carseat, but it isn't in the car. Who was it that said they were in denial? Babywish? Add me to that list. Plus, if you visit my journal you'll find evidence of my mental/emotional state these days.
I'm feeling pretty motivated now, though, what with all this talk about hospital bags. And I'm having a baby shower tomorrow! Really sweet- we just moved here, and my DH's co-worker said, "You need a baby shower." (I've never met the woman before.) So she's throwing a baby shower for me with all the women DH works with and the wives of the men he works with invited. It should be a little strange-- a shower with guests I've barely met... but bless her heart for doing it.
Here's my 34 week belly picture, too. Camdynlyn, you need to post yours!

Aletheia- Admittedly I am in a little better shape than you are but that is just because my nursery is already painted and I moved all my junk out, other than that I think we are in the same page… man this is coming up faster than I thought. By the way the more I see your belly shots the more I am convinced you have a boy… I can't wait to see what your little surprise is. If I were to be right, I think you would be one of the only people I have been right with :).
So my SIL called me and now she is also bringing her boy (who btw is the cutest thing!), the problem is that the girl who is hosting the shower said no boys older than 2 years old. She has a 3 ½ year old who will be with DH and her husband. So I told SIL that he could just go with DH and my friend's DH and son, she goes 'what about if Robert doesn't want to go with them and wants to come to the shower??' and I am like 'he is 3 years old! Does he really have a choice?'. I hope I am not one of these women who see other people doing wrong with their kids, but then she goes and does the same claiming there is nothing wrong with it, but come on, a 3 year old? I don’t remember having a choice while I lived with my parent's (and I was 23 when I moved out!). Seriously, is it me or people nowadays give way too much 'to say' to their kids?

i'm feeling pretty unprepared, too, although i don't have quite as much to do as the rest of you guys. i still need to secure some sort of sleep spot for the new babe -- most likely a bassinet until our older daughter is out of her crib. i don't want two cribs! i also need to replace some miscellaneous odds and ends that our cats destroyed - the bouncy seat, moses basket, etc. i also need to buy a double stroller and some cloth diapers since we didn't start cd'ing until our daughter was already in mediums.
if we could magically grow an extra bedroom, that would be nice, too, but i doubt that will happen. :)
~~
ocg: I went on bedrest during my last pregnancy, too, but it wasn't until my bp was much higher than that. I can't recall your work situation, but if you're planning on going back post-baby, will this time off cut into your FMLA leave?

Yup, you can add me to the unprepared list! And I've already GOT one baby, so I don't have as much to do from scratch as it were. Like DeliciousJones, I need to secure a new sleeping place for the new baby - I'm hoping to put him in an arms reach co-sleeper in our room. Before the baby gets here, I'd like to transition my current son out of the crib into a toddler bed... so technically the crib will be empty and the new baby COULD sleep there, but the crib will have to be in the same room as the toddler bed and I don't want the new baby messing with my 2yo DS's sleep. On the other hand, I want my son out of the crib before the new baby gets here so he doesn't associate losing his crib with the new baby. My point being I need to buy a co-sleeper and a toddler bed.
I also need to get my infant car seat, and the snap-n-go, out of my mom's attic and get them all cleaned up, and get other things, like the bouncy seat, my 0-3 month clothes, and newbaby soft toy type things out of my attic and cleaned.
I don't need to buy too much for the new baby - but I do need to pick up some blankets. Although we have a zillion blankets we got for DS, he loves them all, and I think only bad things would happen if I asked him to share or give them up. Also DS has a few stuffed animal "friends" that have been his personal special buddies since he was born - I'd like to get a few friends for the new baby too so he can have some buddies to bond with when he's ready as well.

if we could magically grow an extra bedroom, that would be nice, too, but i doubt that will happen. :)
Us too:) We moved my DS into his big sister's room last week. Their sharing has not been nearly as traumatic as I expected. I moved all his clothes toys over the past few days. That means the nursery is empty & I can begin digging all my crap out of the attic, to clean & arrange. Fun, fun.
The ony thing I have bought was an Avent kit with the disposable storage containers/lids. Love my Avent pump & hope it is in good shape when I get it out. I need to see how many breastpads I have left too. Other than that I think I only need to buy some newborn diapers. Oh & I want to pick up & wrap some small gifts for the baby to give Alli & Will when they come visit us in the hospital.
Hospital bag. Not packed, probably won't do until the week before. I just need a robe, slippers, camera, video camera, contacts, toiletries & my outfit for riding home. My Mom will buy an outfit & blanket for baby after we know the gender...at least she did for the other two.
aletheia- that is so sweet about your DHs co-worker. Enjoy the shower. You look great BTW.
Ocgatita- Hope you get to rest up & that your blood pressure comes down.

Why in the world can I not stop eating????? I'm seriously making myself sick. I gorge myself so badly, that I spend the next few hours literally feeling like I'm splitting open, yet I can't stop eating these huge meals! For lunch I had a turkey sandwich, 2 glasses of milk, 2 peaches, 1 plum, a bunch of grapes, a granola bar and a cup of tea. There is just no need of it!!!! Then for supper I was equally bad on myself, and I'm suffering badly right now!
FIl plastered and sanded Claire's new room today. Priming should start tomorrow, painting early next week. The carpeters are scheduled for July 31st, and her new bedroom furniture is due in on Aug. 1st. So, hopefully by the end of the 1st week of August, Claire will be in her new room, and we can start putting the furniture and baby things back in the baby's room.
Must go lie on the couch and try to digest some of this food.

Doctor's appointment today:
He said I'm measuring a little ahead (strange, I was behind last time), blood pressure was excellent and I gained 4 pounds! I had a little blood today but I chalked that up to the deed we did last night! He agreed. He checked for position of her since I was worried and said she's head down and between my pelvis. I think I've dropped a little. Let's see.. we went over my birth plan and he okayed it and put it in my file. My next appointment is August 3 and I'll be 35w3d. I'll schedule my GBS then. He said he usually will perform an internal (although I'm not seeing him next time) while doing the GBS, if the mom wants it. I guess I need to decide. If not, they wait until the week of your due date.

octoberkate I used the arms reach mini co-sleeper for DS. Loved it! You may want to consider getting the larger one for this reason only- DS grew out of it at 6mos and I would have like to keep him in it longer ( for my selfish reasons only) Needles to say he sleeps in our bed now and we have no plans to get him out. Not at this late date anyhow- we tried a little - set up a toddler bed etc which he may nap in- but I feel guilty kicking him out.

I saw the doctor today. Good news is that the baby's heart rate is good. Bad news is that I am on TOTAL bedrest until I get a support belt. I guess when I fell, I strained the muscles pretty good and the doctor is worried I am at risk for an umbilical hernia, so they want me to get a support belt and I'm not allowed to do anything until I get it. I was going to order one from a company here in MI that the doctor had a brochure for, but they said it will take 5 days to get here(unless I want to pay $20 for overnight shipping and the belt only costs $15!) so DH is going to stop by the mall tomorrow and see if perhaps Motherhood has any. My next appointment is August 3. They will be scheduling my next U/S at that appointment and it will be approximately 1 week later.

LMC ~ Sorry about the bedrest. Better to be safe than sorry.
Thanks so much for the updates. As usual they're awesome!!!
I had my appt today. She did an internal (because I thought I was in labor last night) and I wasn't dilated or effaced. I have to go to a 3 hour GTT on Wednesday. Since I barely passed my first test she thinks I might have Gestational Diabetes. As of tomorrow I have to go on a GD diet. No soda or juice, very limited fruit and carbs. I go back in 3 weeks for a repeat u/s and more than likely will have a scheduled C section the last week of August. I had a hard time giving birth to my DS so my dr thinks since this baby will be bigger I won't be able to have a vaginal. I am so upset. I do not want a C at all. I'm petrified of the whole process and most importantly the recovery. I just wanted to go into labor on my own and give birth. I am so down right now. I keep thinking if I had taken better care of myself this wouldn't be happening.
Add me to the totally unprepared camp - the baby has a room, and it is painted the most adorable sge green ever. Other than that, and maternity clothes and a few books for me, we have done NOTHING for this baby - and it's our first! Talk about denial - I am ONLY 32 weeks, 5 days! I still have plenty of time, right? ;)
No word of a baby shower, still. No sign of any registry purchases.
I am going to see if DH will go baby furniture shopping Saturday. I know what I want, I just have to find it. We have an "in" - DH's best friend's dad is a part owner in a local baby store chain - everything from bottles to clothes to furniture to strollers, etc. He's promised to "take care of us" whatever that means, and now I think I'm ready to take him up on it!
Baby is still kicking and punching and STRETCHING away in there! Lots of pressure, like s/he's trying to make more room!
I think I've gained 12 pounds overall, and 21 from my early-PG low.

OMG, I'm not ready! I'm not ready....
Okay, deep breaths.....
LMC So sorry about the bedrest. And with two little ones at home already. I'm glad the baby is doing so well.
Dotsie don't you dare go there! You can not blame yourself for what may or may not happen in pregnancy. You have taken great care of this baby from day one. Try not to stress yourself out. The goal here is a healthy happy baby. I know your worried, but please, try to relax. It will all be fine.
{b} Man girl, your only up 12lbs??? I've gained 19 and feel like a cow. Oh well... So cool you have an in at a baby store. I am jealous!
Okay, need to go continue my freak out... and maybe make some baby purchases.
Take care everyone!

Dotsie Hang in there! I totally understand your feelings about the C Section, as I am in (sort of) the same boat. For me its still totally up in the air whether I get to have a trial of labor and a VBAC or not. And I am with you on soo not wanting a C Sec. but if it is what has to be, and its for the health of yourself and the baby, then thats just that. I know how upsetting it is, I truly do! I was in absolute tears when the Dr. told me that I may HAVE to have another C Sec. I have been in the mindset of having a NCB this whole time! Just give yourself some time to chew on the information and accept that its an okay thing, thats what I have been doing, and if by chance I get to have an NCB well all the better! It really will be okay!

Thanks everyone for the well wishes. I'm still really upset but what will be, will be. I'll just keep saying my prayers. I guess going on a low carb diet isn't that bad. I was planning on doing that after the birth. So I'm 5 weeks early on the diet front. I'm up 21 lbs now and if I can keep that to a minimum that's all the more reason to do it.
Joann ~ good luck on that traffic. Yikes. Who gets married down the shore on a Friday anyway. I'm sure you'll have a blast. We will get together very soon and eat meat and veggies and commiserat together:D
My mom is coming up tonight to give me a hand with my DS. I was up til 5 am this morning thinking I *might* be in labor. Thankfully I wasn't but I am utterly exhausted. My 3 y/o hasn't napped in 1 1/2 years. I swear he has a battery pack up his hiney:p
My dr wants me to lay low and not do too much this weekend. Hopefully I'll be able to do so.
Have a great weekend everyone.

You all have gained no weight!! I've gained 35 pounds, and I still have these other 6+ third trimester weeks to go! I don't really care-- I feel pretty good, though by the end of the day my feet and knees are really tired of carrying so much Aletheia around. I weigh more now than I ever have in my entire life. And, as DH likes to remind me, more than my husband. :) C'est la vie, I say.
I have my baby shower tonight, and I have a question: should I take the hostess a gift of some sort right to the event, or do something nice for her after the fact? For some reason, I feel a little weird showing up empty handed.

Aletheia I too have gained 32 lbs. what are these girls worried about?? I gained 75 last pg- now that is GIGANTIC!
To my wedding shower- I brought everyone cards. But I think that is a sweet thought to bring a hostess gift the day of- let's the hostess know you thought of her prior to- not just as an after thought.
I have a wedding shower tomorrow. I was in the wedding until I got knocked up! HEE! But the friend never asked me to help with anything and I feel bad. I offered to help with the shower ( she told me she was making some of her own food) I said absolutely not- called her yesterday to tell her I was coming over to do it for her and she said she would check with the one sdoing most and get back to me- she hasn't at all.
DH has off tonight- he said he would come home at 2- which means 3+. But we are going to Salmon-a-rama. Doesn't that sound fun?! It is a big fishing contest at the lake that over the years has turned into a big thing on the weekend. Bands - food etc. My Dad and Bro are involoved too so we will see them and have dinner there. It is getting out and you wind up bumping into people. AND we get to do something together! That never happens.
Watched Nanny McPhee last night- cute.

what about bringing the hostess a nice bouquet of flowers, or a pretty houseplant in a pretty vase/pot?
~~
i had my ob appt today. gained 8 lbs in three weeks. yikes. i'm only up 22 lbs, though, total so i'm not too worried. i did stop and join the YMCA on my way home, though, but not so much because of the weight gain but because i know that exercise helps me feel better in general and it's just too damn hot to exercise outside.

I had my pre-natal visit this morning. I am up another 4 lbs, for a total gain of 11 lbs. Right on target at about 1 lb per week. (My last appt was 3 weeks ago.) Fasolaki's heartrate was 140 bpm. My fundus (hee hee) is measuring right on schedule. My appointments from now on will be every two weeks, so my next one is August 3rd. The low-lying placenta is still a consideration, so I have my 4th u/s on Monday.
I talked to Dr H (Cutie Doc) a little bit about my views on pain management/epidural. He totally agreed with my outlook of 'see what happens.' One thing I like about him (I don't know if I mentioned this or not) is that he has a 4 month old daughter, so he and his wife went through becoming parents for the first time fairly recently.
Threadmistress, can you please update?
Ultrasound - July 24th
Next appointment - August 3rd
We started taking down the wallpaper in Fasolaki's room Wednesday night. It's a pretty small room, but it still took us 2 hours to strip wallpaper on just two sections of wall. We scored the wallpaper and used DIF to soften up the paper & glue. Then we scraped. And scraped.
So I took a friend's advice and am renting a steam wallpaper removal machine this weekend. Hopefully that will speed the process along. I can't wait to paint & decorate!
We are in pretty good shape as far as what to buy for the baby. We have the crib, changing table/dresser, and glider & ottoman for his room. We still need to buy a mattress.

I am 33w3d and I just realized that I am in my 34th week. Did you guys know that? For some reason I thought that if I was 33w3d then I’m in my 33rd week. But actually that means I finished my 33w and am in my 34th. Why does it have to be confusing? I don’t think I’ve posted any belly shots so I’ll try and do that. Since everyone is talking about weight, I’ve gained 23 lbs. I didn’t even know it was ok to only gain 11 or 12lbs by this stage. I bet all y’all that have gained that little must have backs that feel normal. Lucky you!
Babywish – Yep! Ida is prego! I’m going to see her next. I’ll report back to you on how she is doing. She has a journal on LJ where she has posted some pictures. Do you talk to her or V any more? I lost touch for a while also, but once I finished school I got back in the social scene. LOL! I know you know what I’m talking about. By the way, it feels weird not to have any more school unless I do decide to go the Ph.D. route. Doesn’t it feel weird to you?
My maternity pictures are on Sunday. I’m really excited! I’ll totally let you know how it goes. I think Tricia seems up beat and fun so I think I’ll like her. I love her photos. I think she did that “baby book” and most of the maternity shots that are posted on the websites I gave you. The guy does more wedding and commercial photos. I plan on taking baby g. to her for the 3, 6, 9 and 12 month photos along with the “tiny parts” photo. Have you heard from her yet? I can send you what I have from her if you haven’t.
Have fun at your shower this weekend. I’ve had two already and they are fun!
Deliciousjones – Hi! I think I’m going to love having maternity pics taken too. My husband is also excited – it’s cute! Did you post your shots? My photographer isn’t overly expensive; I just think the actual prints are. She only charges $95 for a session and she doesn’t limit the time to an hour or the amount of clothes you change into. Most photographers around here are $150 or more and give you only an hour and no change of clothes (so what do you do if you want some semi-nude and some with your husband, you know?). But I think an 8x10 is $40 and 4x6 is either $20 or $24, which seems standard when comparing photographers … but I know if I actually took the negatives to the real lab (not Wolf) I would pay only $10 for the 8x10. I did that with my wedding photos, but I can’t have the negatives with this photographer so I guess I’ll be paying the hefty price. That’s the price I’ll pay for quality photos, though!
Aletheia - The hostess gift dilemna! Seems like it's the new things now. All my friends give hostess gifts, so I gave hostess gifts for my 2 showers so far. I'm also giving one at my shower next week. Typically people give smaller ticket items like candles or picture frames or something personal that you know your friend would like. For the shower I had a few weeks ago, I gave my friend a scrapbook that I made of her wedding. And for the one my SIL and mom threw, I gave a spa pedicure gift cert and my mom a frame with a pic of her and I. Just some thoughts.
Cord blood- I thought about it banking it and we discussed with my dr. He said he didn’t do it with his kids (they are young), but he might consider it with his next. So far they have only been able to use the cord blood for 2 or 3 diseases, even though they list 100’s and make you think they have used it for more. I don’t think we’ll do it, but I feel guilty about it.
Panties- I’m with babywish and I’m also a thong kind of girl. I just bought a set of regular maternity underwear from Kohl’s since people have been warning me that my maternity thongs aren’t going to cut it with the pads … I haven’t worn regular panties since I was in jr. high I think. The ones from Kohl’s are nearly as big or motherly as the ones I see online … so if you are looking for some comfy maternity panties try theirs.
Nursing Bras – How do you buy a nursing bra before you have the baby? Do you just assume you go up a cup size? Because everyone says to take one to the hospital but I’m not sure what size to buy. Help!
Nursing Pads – Have any of you purchased these yet? I’m wondering if it’s better to get the disposable kind or lily padz. I’m so lost … and I’m a slacker and I haven’t even thought about this kind of stuff!
Pregnancy Massage- LOVED mine. I had one last Sunday … wonderful! Unfortunately the place I went doesn’t have the bed that has the center that drops out. Instead they use pillows to prop you up and around your belly … it was great, but I would have been in heaven to lie on my stomach! I miss that. I think I'm going to get a facial in 2 weeks.
Epidural - I’m totally willing to have one. I’m going to wait as long as I can, just so I don’t have to be confined to the bed but I’m sure I’ll end up with one. I’m not ruling anything out!
Hospital bag- Like most of you, I haven’t started packing. I just found a list the other day … and I’ve been adding to it based on what you girls are packing. Thanks for posting, by the way. I also ready somewhere that it’s a good idea to bring your own toilet paper since the hospital’s is like sand paper. My husband also mentioned that I might want to bring baby wipes for the same reason.
Childbirth Class – I took mine last week. We watched 3 moves – a c-section movie, a regular birth movie, and a BF movie. One question – why, oh why, were the women completely naked in all 3 movies? Uh … I’m not really planning to give birth without a top on or a gown or something …. Is that normal? Those movies need to be updated!
All you girls with showers this tomorrow - Enjoy! I'm excited to hear how they go. I have one next Sat. Have already had 2 (one in FL where I'm from and a couples shower here) and have one left and a work shower. I'm excited. Surprisingly, though, I haven't gotten any big gifts, except a Coach diaper bag from my mom (that was really cool of her - we don't typically buy such nice things!). I hope you girls get all your big items and more. Report back soon!

those session fees and print prices are pretty much in line with my own. i know that for me and my business, my session fee barely covers the time i spend with the client during the shoot and ordering process. the print income is what pays for my equipment, taxes, overhead, etc.
it makes me happy to see people who appreciate professional photography and make room in the budget for it! i hope you have a great time at your session and that you love your images. who are you going to?
I think I miscalculated my weight gain before. I started at 143, lost 9 pounds in the first three months or so, and am now at 159. So, I've gained 16 pounds, 25 total. This is the heaviest I have ever been in my life! Guess it's a good reason, though!
Back pain - my back has been (knock on wood!) just fine so far. not sure if it's due mroe to the minimal weight gain or the weekly(ish) chiro visits. It's handy to have a chiro doc for a husband!

ugh
Here it is 4:30ish am and I have succumbed to the sleeplessness. DH isn't even snoring! I should be enjoying that with slumber myself! I hoped that getting up and not just laying there will help me go back to bed.
As I was laying there though - I totally rememnered that I made plans to have lunch with a friend ( old grade school friend) on sunday aft and we were going to make final confiems by phone and haven't. I have her number on a tiny post it in my purse. I sure hope it is still there!
This wedding shower tomorrow is bumming me out. I couldn't find a sitter for DS. My mo mis out of town- Dad is working, 2 SIL's working- bro ( very last resort) is busy.
I called last night to see if I can bring DS and stay a short time. I got huge vibe that they want no kids. I had expressed my sitter woes a while back with bride and she was like- yeah - sucks for you.
So I ordered a Graco Douglider LXI , a boppy cover and a Glamourmom nursing tank from Babycenter. $215 total- not terrible. But neither DH or I are big shoppers- so I hemmed and hawed over it for a few days. What a dud I am!
Well I think I will get a drink and dig through my purse before attempting to go back to bed!
Gah! Twitchy legs and too much stupid stuff on my mind = a crappy night's sleep. Stinks!

We ordered the crib & dresser today! And since they're in the warehouse (Crib & Teen City has its own manufacturer) they'll be delivered & asembled the week after this one (Wednesday, 8/2). Yay!
Now all we have to do is finish clearing out all the stuff that we've stored there, paint it, put in the closet organizer, buy a glider, and do the main decorating. Nothing to it, right? We're practically done! :-)
The answer to all PG-related ailments appears to me to be: EAT!
LOL! Upset tummy? Heartburn? Indigestion? Can't sleep? EAT! :D

{b} I'm with you on that one. It seems to work for headaches, too! ;)
My neice, Ella, was born yesterday. My SIL went into labor on her own and delivered an 8 pound 10 ounce baby after 8 hours of labor. She said this one was much easier than her first since there was only 30 minutes of pushing. Baby is doing well, mom had low blood pressure so she is staying in the hospital for an extra night just to be monitored.
I'm pooped these days - not sure if I am recovering from jet lag or just getting the third trimester exhaustion that everyone else has.
Mask of Pregnancy Does anyone else have it? I have this quite badly around my eyes and was just reading that it is a signal of Vitamin B deficiency. Has anyone else heard this?

Brenda ~ congrats on ordering the baby furniture.
2Jacks ~ I hear you on not being able to sleep. I'm up almost every night at 3 am.
B ~ For the past 2 weeks I cannot get enough to eat. I'm normally not a big eater but nowadays, if it's not nailed down, it's in my belly!!!
Twink ~ Congrats on your new niece Ella. Just think, in no time flat that will be you;)
I started my GD diet today. 2 words... it sucks. Blech. I'll do whatever it takes to keep the little one and myself healthy but eesch this diet is tough.
I've also had a reaction to the zpac medicine that I was taking for my pneumonia. It makes your tummy cramp up, nausea, and gas... for only 2% of the people who take it. My mom came up for the weekend and has been helping me out a lot. She did my laundry today and took care of my DS. I was actually able to take a nap. I still feel pretty yucky but I last took my zpac medicine 2 days ago so I'm hoping it's out of my system by tomorrow.

Dotsie Sucks that your meds made you sicker than normal gas and pg pains! But so n ice your m om came and took a load off of you for a day! I would love that.
I washed up all of the clothes from DS that I can use for new baby. I had to do some rearranging and I think we will be crowded for space- but I feel better having started something. I still have to get carseat ready and washed as well as the cloth parts of the other gear ( swing, bouncy chair, etc) And mom is going to do a glaze in the kids room to tone it down- it is a limey green that is too bright. She will do that 2nd week of Aug. - after church I am meeting an old friend for lunch and then picking up a prescription all by myself! DH actually made the comment that I do things like this at least once a month ( meaning get out alone) Ha funny. Yes- last sunday I went o a movie while mom watched Ds, the month prior she watched him again while I got a pedi- then back in May I went to a seminar with my office ( fun) and in Feb I had a wed-sat seminar with my office. Man the fun I have! Otherwise I am with DS or work every minute.
DH doesn't get out much either- but he doens't have any free time- he works constantly- I consider the band stuff he does to be part of his fun- he is with them 3-4 days of the week. Much more than he is with us.
Well Sesame street is over and I better shower.

It just keeps getting better....
Our 3 y/o big screen t.v. died last night. It's no longer under warranty. We're trying to find a way to fix it ourselves. We have really big red arched lines on the screen. Then the screen goes bright red. I searched online and found that this is a common problem with Sony t.v's. I am beyond pissed right now.

twink ~ I've also heard this. I don't have the pregnancy mask, but I do have rosacea, which is good some days and bad some others. I've heard that vitamin B is good for rosacea, so maybe it works for the mask as well?
Dotsie ~ I hope you feel better soon, and that sucks about your T.V.!! I'd be super mad as well. Glad to hear you Mom is with you and you are getting some rest. Take care.
2Jacks ~ At least you are getting something accomplished! You child will actually have clothes to wear. And, ummmm, I'm ashamed to say that it never occurred to me that I needed to wash the car seat and swing fabrics! They have been stored in a Rubbermaid container, so I figured they were fine. But, I guess a good washing is in order.
{b} Me too. I'm literally making myself sick, yet I can't stop eating! I know that the excessive overeating (particularly in the evenings) is half of what's keeping me up at night, yet I stupidly continue to gorge myself!!
I'm feeling sad today. DH left this morning, and will be gone for possibly two weeks. :( He's really hoping to be finished the project and home again next weekend, but really won't know until he gets started. Please send me some serious "Don't go into labour vibes"!!!! Where he is working is about a 9 hour drive away, and is a very remote area when cellular coverage is bad, so reaching him may be difficult! Plus, if I do go into labour, he may not even make it back here to the hospital in time! He really didn't want to go, but his contract with this company it almost over, and he really cannot stiff them now. Plus, with all the money I've been spening lately (deck, kid's room reno's, furniture) we really can't afford for him to not go. I hope this kiddo is content where he/she is for awhile yet!!
OB appt. tomorrow. I haven't seen her since June 8th!

twink- I just read last night that pregnancy mask is symptomatic of vit b deficiency! When I was a vegetarian, a way I made sure to get some extra B vitamins was to sprinkle brewer's yeast (available at health food stores) on popcorn. sort of a unique taste, but it really grows on you.
of course, you can also just take pill supplements.

Mask: I don't have a mask but I do have a couple dark spots on the tip of my nose. I've also heard (and seen) the 'pregnancy nose.' It's where the membranes in your nose swells and your nose gets increasingly larger. I've seen it first hand but I don't THINK I have it! ;) I could though and no one's telling me.

Pregnancy mask - What is this exactly? I mean what are the symptoms? Does the skin on your face get darker? Also, does anyone know why some pregnant women's necks get darker? This seems to be common with African-american woman. My neck is getting slightly darker and my nose is beginning to spread!
Well...yesterday was my baby shower. IT WAS SO MUCH FUN!! I got so much stuff! There were around 40 ladies there. I'll tell you something...People really LOVE buying baby clothes! I don't need ANYMORE 0-3 month old clothes!! I hope my baby will be able to wear all this stuff!! I also got lots of other sizes too, but the 0-3 month old was the most by far. Everything was decorated and organized so nicely. The decor centered around the pattern on my baby crib bedding. My friends (shower organizers) made up this shower program packet that included all the games in it. They used electronic copies of my maternity pictures to put on the program as watermarks. They also contacted the photographer and purchased 3 different prints of the pictures and put them in a matted frame...as the guests arrived to the shower they signed the matt. It is really nice! Now DH and I need to figure out where to hang it. They had personalized votive candles, ink pens and candy as favors. The table centerpieces were made with baby washclothes and socks. Very cute! At the beginning of the shower one of the hostesses did a welcome speech and had everyone at the shower stand up to say who they were and how they knew me. When my mom said her few words I started crying like a baby! Then the hostess read a really nice poem and I cried some more! I'm such a wimp! Anyway...here are a few pictures...

craft You have awesome very creative and thourough friends! That is a gorgeous shower- everything about it. I am going to want to steal those ideas for any girlfriend of mine who may need a shower in the future! I love the program idea- not only is it cool- but it is nice to see how the day will go- too often you are sitting at a shower wondering if that is it or what will happen next.
I was at a bridal shower yesterday and we were all wondering when it was over- was there cake? etc? No cake- so we hung around for eons for nothing.
Dawny Oh man- cross those legs! HEE! I feel your pain- although DH isn't more than 2 hrs away usually, he is gone all the time. It is so lonely and especially for potentially that long of a stretch. can you have family friends bide your time? I would be making mom stay over ( although i have offered a million times and she regrets!)

craft You will love your diaper champ. It is a newer version than mine- but let me warn you of one thing- DH's tend to not quite understand the importance of having those wipes neatly rolled up in the offending diaper - than in the champ. My Dh would just ( and still does) just toss them in loosely and it cause the sponge that is glued to the underside of the tumbler part ( I think it makes it flip smoothly) get damp and STINKY! I had to take it apart and rip out the sponge - then bleach the whole thing.

2jacks&me - HUH??? I guess I need to read the directions closely because I have no idea how any of this stuff works myself!!! FYI...The program booklet also had all the games inside of it...no passing out papers with each game. There was no cake at the baby shower????? How weird!!
What a fun shower, CG! You look GREAT!
Dotsie - That stinks. Sorry your meds are giving you side effects, and sorry the TV died. Where did you buy the TV? If, by any chance, you got it at Costco, they'll replace or refund ANYTHING at anytime - just thought I'd mention it, just in case.

Dh has ACl surgery on 07/11 and I have been a little busy taking care of him and Allie. My ob appt was on 07/14 and my weight gain is up one pound for a total of 8 pounds. BP looks good and the babies hr is in the 130s. Baby moving quite a bit and she moves in some funny ways. Next appt is August 3rd but I won't be meeting with her this time I will be meeting with one of her partners just in case by some chance I go into labor and she isn't in town. Even though I plan on having a csection. Which we will schedule at my next appointment with her. I really need to get Alyssa's room all together because I have no idea how I will be able to get the bassinet out of there if I don't. HOpe everyone is well
Anyone thinking about birth plans yet? I know it's probably early, just wondering if you're planning on doing one?
We are finally going baby furniture shopping sometime this week. I'm reading labor books. Still no word of a shower, my soon-to-be-SIL asked today if anyone was planning anything, so I guess I can rule her out as planning anything! MIL and SIL are still in Italy - 3 week vacations must be nice! Have birthing class scheduled for Aug. 15. The pants I thought I'd never, ever actually fill up are fitting nicely now. Some "under the belly" style pants feel like they are to far down while I'm wearing them.
DH told me I was waddling today. I was like "Uh, yeah! I've been feeling like I've been waddling for weeks!" It's worse when I'm tired, I think.

craft~ What a wonderful shower!! Looks like you have a great group of friends and family members. The extra touches were so nice! And it looks like you got a lot of much-needed items.
I had to do what Summer has done. I also told my mom that if anyone asks what to get us, we are set on clothes. In fact, I will need to change this kiddo 4-5 times a day just so he will have the chance to wear everything! :p My new response when someone asks me what we need is "gift cards would be great." We still have a couple of big items we need to get. Just wish my MIL would pay attention when I tell her that. When she asked what big item they could get us, I told her our stroller would be fabulous. Instead they are getting us a camcorder. DH told her that while we appreciate the offer of a camcorder, the stroller would be much more practical. Her response was, "But we want you to send us video on a regular basis, so we are going to buy you the camcorder." Then why did you ask what we needed?!? Not that I don't appreciate it, but...you know.

OK- so I am up again. This is crazy. I don't recall be sooooo sleepless with DS, but then again it all seems a little hazy.
So while I am up I am eating. Hey -why not. My new favorite thing. Peanut Butter Cap'n Crunch. great. At least it has milk in it.
Maybe if I take a little tylenol it will aleviate the back. I keep resisting sleeping in the recliner because for some reason I feel like it will be worse sleep- but I already know it is better- but I really want to sleep in my bed.
The guy we are trying to hire to complete our half finished jobs around here has not gotten back to us regardign when he can start. I told him weds night that we wanted him. So I hope it is soon. He did say he hoped to start this month. We will have to move out of our room for a few days and it will get increasingly harder the further out it is.
UTCHICK You sound like me - I wanted the practical stuff too- but people don't like that. My mom's husband was like " no one should have Walmart baby furniture." My theory was - if it is safety reated well- why the heck not! Plus - if I wouldn't spend the monry- I would feel uncomfortable accepting it from someone else. SO finally what happened was I took them shopping to USA BABY and showed them the cribs and matching accessories starting at $800+ . I got the walmart crib and Ikea dressers. Good thing since no one has ever used the crib!
Well hmm.. what can I look at on here.
for those of you expecting girls What are you bringing baby home in? DS was due near Halloween - so he had a giraffe sleeper, hat and blanket from Gymboree that wa so cute- but I don't know what to do for this girl and it may be hot out!

craft ~ Looks like a great shower!! Your friends are very good to you!
2Jacks ~ I'll be taking it very easy this next week - nothing exciting for me!
I'm off to my Mom's for the day/night and will be back tomorrow evening. My little sister is home on vacation (with her new boyfriend!) so we are having a family get-together. Gotta check out the new boyfriend after all!
FIL is painting Claire's new room while we are at Mom's!!
OB appt. is today at 1:15. This will be the first appt. that DH has missed through both pregnancies :( .
Claire slept at MIL's last night, and I slept pretty well, but of course was wide awake at 7:00 this morning. You'd think I could take advantage of being able to sleep in wouldn't you??
Off to pack a few things.

Craft- you have amazingly creative friends. What an excellent looking shower.
Alliesmom- Hope your DH is feeling better.
2jacks- I so agree on the “fun” stuff. My DH is playing softball tonight, tomorrow & Wed. after work That means it is me, 33 weeks pregnant with the kids all day & night.
Dawny- have a nice day with your Mom.
Dorothy- My cousin gets married at the shore on a summer Friday. It was really nice & the traffic wasn’t too bad. I even managed to dress up although the flip flops went on about 9:30. One “trick” about the GD diet, you can eat some sweets if you spread them out throughout the day. I usually have a “drumstick”, you know, the ice cream kind, once a day. It is only 30 net carbs which is one snack serving. Jello makes good sugar free pudding, cheese, crackers & peperroni (just count the crackers out ahead). I’ll try to think of some more. That stinks about your TV!!!!
Twink- congrats on your new niece. Isn’t it so cool to hold the little one & know your baby will be here soon?
Well we started our big new baby shopping this weekend. The ony thing we really need is a (gasp) minivan. 3 in carseats make it necessary. After being all over this weekend we have narrowed it down to the Honda Odessey or the Toyota Sienna. Need toget out for more test driving & negotiating later the is week.

mommyto Dh always played softball since I have known him- but on sunday nights. The one night he wouldn't ( usually) have to play out anywhere. This year he chose to give it up- I am glad but sad that it was the one fun thing he did for himself- just no time!
Minivan- funny you say that. I have been talking about it too. And We think the same abou the two you have narrowed it down to. I have a step-sister with the Odessy and she says it is still strong and kicking and it is a '99. They both have great track records!

Was it this thread where someone asked about nursing bras? I have a suggestion. I really love the nursing tanks from Target. You don't have to get an exact cup size, so you don't have to worry about it not fitting when your milk comes in. They are S, M, L, etc. Also, they are extremely comfortable, especially for all the lounging around you (hopefully) get to do after the baby arrives.
I bought several of these tanks in various colors with my last baby, and liked them better than any nursing shirts I found. They basically turn any shirt into a nursing shirt because you can lift your outer shirt up and the tank covers your whole tummy, etc. With a regular nursing bra all that is exposed unless you have a special nursing shirt. I even nursed in front of my dad with one of these tanks and a regular shirt - you couldn't see anything!

Funny that the minivan discussion has started - that's the one new baby thing I want too... although I don't think we'll actually motivate in time. Before DS was born we had one car - a sweet little two door sports car. Needless to say, that had to go before Alex was born because, although we could get a carseat in, it would'n't have been good. Now we've been driving a Honda Accord for 2.5 years which has treated us well. But we still only have one car. I really want a second car so that I don't have to pack up the new baby every day in order to drive DH and DS to work and daycare. I'm also thinking either a minivan or one of the new car/SUV hybrids (but not a regular SUV). This is really strange for me though, because I'm a small car freak - I've had a tough time adjusting to the Accord, feeling like I'm driving a boat, so I don't know how I'll do with a minivan. That said, I'd like to be able to have DH, me, two kids, and occasionally my mom or dad in the car with me - so we'll need something bigger.
I've heard nothing but great reviews on the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna - however I don't think they will stay on my list - they are both so much longer than my Accord, and I have to parallel park pretty frequently, so I think they'll have to go. At the moment I'm looking at the Mazda MPV, Mazda5, Ford Freestyle, and Chrysler Pacifica. There are a lot of other sweet minivan and car/suv hybrids out there, but the others are definitely well above our price range.
eta - forget what I said above re: length of the Odyssey. I hadn't looked at these since the dimensions for the "re-designed" 2006 model came out. Now it's only 12 inches longer than my accord whereas before it was more like 32 inches longer. I might be able to deal with an extra foot...

Yeah funny- Did you all ever think you would be drooling over a minivan!
When I met DH he was a huge fan- not any more- but he is a musician and hauls his gear everywhere. Now he figures that the bigger the vehicle the more people want him to bring things for him.
I was against a mom car- now I think it will the answer to all my needs!

We have a Toyota Sienna and really like it. Our garage entrance is narrow and there is a special feature where you can push a button and the side mirrors fold in. Believe it or not, that was a selling feature for us over the Odyssey.
I also like the camera feature backing up (I believe lots of minivans, including Odyssey has this feature). DH told me that at the park this weekend, he was just about to back out of the lot and on the camera he saw a little girl leaning on the bumper, doing something with her shoe. He had the backup lights on and everything, and she didn't move and her mom didn't notice. He said she was really little and he wouldn't have seen her in a regular car even. Scary.
I think the seats were more comfortable in the Odyssey. I like the navigation system better in the Sienna (not something we were going to buy, but we really have gotten hooked on it and now really miss it when we're in the other car!)
Odyssey probably has this too, but our Sienna has bluetooth so I can use the dashboard to use my cell phone hands-free, which is another nice feature. And when I see a restaurant on the navigation system that looks interesting, I can just hit the phone icon and give them a ring. Sort of a fun feature.
There are lots of storage compartments in the Sienna too - in the door arm rests, above the door for driver's sunglasses, 2 glove compartments, etc. It seemed to be handier than the Odyssey, which had the revolving storage under the floor, but DH thought that was "gimmicky" and hard to access.
The windows in back go down, which is nice. And all 4 back windows have built-in sun shades. They aren't the most light-blocking sun shades, but they are easy to see through.
I like the auto-opening back doors too. I can open and close them from the ceiling in the front seat, or from the keychain, etc.
The back hatch door is a little confusing, it's automatic and frustrating sometimes trying to get it closed.
The front doors are heavy. I have to pull the door handle and push to open at the same time. I wish i could pull the door handle and then push the door to open like in our other car. Definitely not a major thing, but it bugs me.
There's a little purse hook in the front passenger area. For long trips I use it for a little trash bag.
I don't know - I was hesitant about going "minivan" but we have a family now and minivans are BUILT for families, with special features for families... and I've really grown to appreciate them. : )
One other thing - ever since we got this van, our toddler LOVES car rides. I think she can see out better. We have a DVD player but haven't had to use it and it's been about 6 months, with several 5+ hour car rides. She just sits there and looks out the window and tells us what she sees - it's a big difference from our other car.

DH & I were watching the Phillies last night & a Navy commercial came on, guys repelling, jumping out of planes & other cool stuff. All the voiceover said was "and just think, some poor guy is buying a minivan right now". We just started cracking up. Never thought we would be a minivan family but there aren't a ton of options with three carseats. I am so looking forward to pop open the side door with the keychain & Alli & Will climbing in, then I can close the door, strap all 3 in their carseats & go. It is also important for me to fit other people in the car. So yes, I am truly excited to become a minivan Mom.
Kate- those are all things you need to consider. I used to fear length too, but have gotten a little more used to it lately. I am a Honda girl, with the exception of the SUV that I drive now have always had one and always loved them. Like 2jacks said, we all know they run forever.
eta: Booksie- thansk for the Sienna review to. I have a good friend who has one & loves it. Since they go back & forth with Honda as "top rated" and all we are keeping both open for now. Hopefully the addiitonal test driving will help us decide:)

It is so funny, we saw that commercial for the first time the weekend we bought our Minivan, and my DH just laughed. We've only had it since March and now we don't know how we ever lived without one (and that's without the baby! LOL) I don't think I will ever drive anything else. DH even loves driving the van! Ours seats 7 so it will be so nice to be able to fit in 2 other people if we need to (which frequently happens with a teenage niece and nephew and my teenage sister living close by.) I totally LOVE the Honda Odyssey, if we could afford to buy a new van it would be between that one of the Pontiac SV6, but that will have to wait a few years. Besides that, I LOVE the gas mileage on mine....who would have thought that I'd get better gas mileage than my DH's car(I get 26 MPG avg in my van, he gets like 24 MPG in his Malibu Maxx.) Oh and JoAnn, I think that Dal has an Odyssey, so you might wanna ask her about hers.

Babywish – How was your shower this weekend? I hope it was a wonderful time for you and that you got lots of great gifts!!
Wanted to tell you that I had my maternity pictures on Sunday. I loved both photographers. Not sure if you went to both websites I posted for you the other day, but Tricia and Mike work together. I thought I was only going to have Tricia taking pictures but both of them were there! It was awesome. I think we did some creative things. I’ll have pictures to share with you next week but I’m assuming they are good … well, Tricia was “oohing and ahhing” as she was taking them and they showed many of them to John who was in love with them (digital so they can do that). We’ll see. But, I did want to tell you that the sitting fee was only $95 which is awesome … but they spent 2.5 hrs with us and I changed clothes/fabric several times. Well worth the $95, that’s for sure, especially since most photographers around here are more than $95 and limit you to an hour and either no clothing changes or one change. So far I highly recommend them to you … we’ll see how that recommendation holds after we see the pictures. Since you don’t have much time, I’d set your appointment up and then cancel if you don’t like the pics I show you. I’m really excited to see your pics – even if you don’t use my photographer. Are you going to do any nude pics?
Deliciousjones – it makes me happy to see people who appreciate professional photography and make room in the budget for it! i hope you have a great time at your session and that you love your images. who are you going to?
Do you mean who did I choose as my photographer? Both links I posted are a team of two photographers. One shoots mostly commercial, wedding, and maternity and the other shoots more maternity and baby. I thought I was going to have only one of the photographers there but they both showed up. I thought that was awesome! And, like I was telling babywish, the session fee was only $95 even though they were both there and they shots 2.5 hrs worth of pics. It was awesome and I was really pleased with how the shoot went. Now let’s just see the picture!
I know you said you just had your maternity shots taken. Did you post any of them? I think I’ve seen you in the photography thread (are you the lead poster in there)? I’m trying to get back into photography myself, but I think I’ll do so once the baby is here. I haven’t had time to get into that thread … but I know it will be helpful. I did a lot of photography in school, but that was with my 35 mm Nikon. I’d like to get a nice digital (like maybe the Rebel). I’m not pleased with my Sony … even though I specifically bought it because you can attach large lenses. Anyway, I loved developing my own pictures in the lab … I always thought that was what made the photos special. That’s probably why I really value “real” photographers and will pay the price to have one take pictures of special moments. Nothing is better than these pictures!
Craftgenius – Wow! Sounds like your shower was pretty swanky! I’ve never been to one so organized and planned and with so many neat things – like a program. Sounds like you have some pretty good friends. Why do you need a shower hostess and a shower organizer? Did they basically just throw the shower together but give themselves different titles? I’ve never seen that either, but it’s very cool … kind of gives someone a specific thing to be in charge of. I’m going to take note of some of these things that your friends did for the next time I throw a shower. For instance – I love the maternity picture frame and sign matte. I’ve thrown 3 showers in the past year and have done the signing matte…. none of my friends had maternity pics, but even if they had I probably would have never thought to use them. I’ve always put in the shower invitation …but I love the maternity picture idea. That’s really neat!
Mommi2alliwill – Oh my gosh – three in car seats? You are my new inspiration! I’m worried about just one. LOL! I’m relatively new to this thread so I did not really know you had 3 in car seats. People keep telling me wait 2 years before I try for a second. Of course, I’ll need to see how it goes with baby #1 before I definitely decide, but I was hoping to wait only a year … do you have any thoughts on how to space children apart?
Booksie – I asked about nursing bras a few pages back. Thanks for your reply and your suggestion! It might just be best to go this route at first. I read in a few places that Target has nursing tanks (like glamourmom?), but I have never seen them in the store. Are they with the normal bras? And, do you think they fit true to size (in case I just order online)? Thanks again!
Minivans – I’m only on #1 so we haven’t reached this point yet, but like you guys probably said we keep saying we’ll never have one. I guess we’ll see. We do have a Nissan Armada and we love it! Nice, big, fully loaded with lots of great features including the back-up camera, dvd, etc. We purchased this over other SUVs because of the price – much less than a loaded Tahoe or the like. But the Odyssey really is cool. My friend has one and it is awesome for a family. I love riding in it! That’s all the input I have on mini-vans! Sorry.
Birth plan – Am I the only girl whose dr. doesn’t seem to think this is a big deal? All the drs. in my practice seem to think it’s not a big deal so I haven’t done one. Should I? I’m basically just taking the approach to keep options open. All of a sudden I feel like I’m not prepared!
Camdynlyn – I had to register for more items also. I hope I use them. I have 2 more showers (one next week – can’t wait) for a total of 4. If you have 4 left, how many total are you having? You are a lucky girl!!
2jacks&me – I’m having a girl. We picked out a cute little romper type thingy that is white and very summery (although we might have her after labor day – LOL!). It has a matching little hat and it’s got straps and is shorts. We got it a babiesrus …my DH picked it out. It’s really cute. Snaps at the bottom for easy access and is one piece. I’ve been told that’s important since it’s hard dressing the baby the first few times. I’m also bringing a cute onsie just in case we can’t get her dress correctly. I wouldn’t put that past my DH and I. HA!

RE Minivans: I have a Ford Windstar and I LOVE IT! We have had it for a few years now, and its served us well so far with no problems and just regular maintanance.
So can I tell you ladies how tired I am of getting sick? I just love the out of the blue nausia and barfing that have returned this month! I kind of wonder if part of it isnt heat related???

I know that you asked JoAnn, but we are in the same boat (in fact my DH said I'm "not allowed to be her friend anymore" because we always wind up pregnant together! LOL
Our daughters are the same age, our sons are a few months apart and here we are expecting #3 at the same time! LOL
I totally love the spacing between my DD and son (it is 21 months.) My DD is old enough to "help" with her brother, but not so old that she doesn't want to play with him (at least so far.) I think that our two youngest are going to be a little closer than I would have liked (16-17 months) but that has more to do with the fact that my son is still very much a "baby" in a lot of what he does, although physically? He is far from baby! LOL I do like however that although we'll have 2 in diapers at once that we'll get that phase done and over with and be able to move on instead of having our son get out of diapers, only to have another one go into them! LOL

Craft Looks like an awesome shower! So sweet of your friends to put that together!
Birth Plan Nope, don't have one, and I don't think I've even thought about it yet. I'll ask my doctor tomorrow, probably...
Going Home Outfit - Don't have that picked out either!
Had my first shower this weekend, it was fun! MIL and SIL hosted it, and we got a ton of great gifts, a bunch of stuff off of the registry, lots of clothes (mostly onesies and sleepers, and a few things for when she's bigger), bath stuff, toys.... it was amazing how generous everyone was. There were mostly friends of MIL and a few relatives, so there were people we don't see a whole lot that were still nice enough to come. Our CRV was completely full of stuff on the way home!
I had to update a few things on our registry, but I'm amazed at how much is already gone, too. I need to add a few more things!
Feeling suddenly overwhelmed today... I can't believe how close it's all getting!

Nursing bras/tanks: The nursing tanks at Target are in the regular bra section. They are usually deep into the department on a display with other nursing bras. They are now Liz Lange (used to be In Due Time ). They are in plastic boxes. I looked online but couldn't find them there.
I usually wear a medium shirt and that's what I bought from the new Liz Lange tanks. I have one on today to try it out and it fits well... super comfy. You can latch & unlatch with one hand too, which is nice. I'd say if you are unsure of which size, go with a smaller size for more support, and a larger size for more comfort. Not sure if these new ones shrink or not, haven't washed any yet. But I don't think the old ones got any smaller after washing.
Oh and I was awfully sore when breastfeeding in the beginning last time around, so I would always pull these on from my feet up. Seemed to work much better than pulling over my head and trying to get my boobies and the fabric all in order. I didn't have to pull the elastic that goes under the breasts over my sore nippers or anything that way.
Happy Monday girls!
We had quite the productive weekend baby wise. We got a lot more painting done in the babys room and I just called DH to have him get some extra gear I need to finish. I will post pictures when we are all done painting. We won't get the remainder of the furniture till Sept :(
I also got a great deal on some AIOs at Sears this weekend as they have their baby days on. We seen a Graco travel system we both really liked, so we may co back and get it also as it was $70 off and meets all our requirements (5-point harness, universal ancoring system, not to heavy etc.).
showers I am so jealous of all of you girls having showers. As far as both DH and I know nothing is being planned for us. It brings back ugly memories of our wedding planning days ... somehow I just hoped this would be different. We have done 2 registies, neither of which have been touched. I am a little curious as the ILs are throwing a BBQ this weekend for FILs side of the family and last I talked to them were worrying about how many people were coming. Part of me hopes this could be a shower in disguise but I don't want to get too excited.
I probably sound quite greedy. I don't mean to, honestly. MIL keeps saying she had so many shower for both their wedding and their firstborn (DH). Yet they aren't making any effort to make either of those experiences special for DH and I. I guess we are more dissapointed than anything else.
Hospital Tour We have ours tonight and I cannot wait. I am excited to see the hospital, the L&D room as well as the PP rooms. I hope to find out more about if when DH is allowed to visit/stay overnight. I really do not want to be in the hospital on my own. I feel bad because I get to experience every kick, roll, u/s, appt. etc. I wouldn't want Dh to miss out on any time with our baby in the first hours/days/weeks of his/her life.
Birth Plan I am still writting mine out. My OB didn't make a hugh deal of it but did sugest I do one, specifically in regards to pain relief as I told him I didn't want the epi and would like to advoid drugs all together.
Going home outfit We haven't picked one yet. I figure we will bring a couple (2 premie and 2 newborn) to chose from depending on babys size.
So super jealous of all you ladies having showers. No one seems too excited about this baby. :( I was hoping the girls from work would plan something, but no one's doing anything, it seems. ANd soon-to-be-SIL asked yesterday if anyone was planning something with the family, so I guess she's not planning anything. Feeling kind of left out, maybe because this is the 4th grandchild on his side and the third on mine? I dunno. It's our first, and we're pretty excited! No one else seems to be, though. And I feel like such a spoiled brat for being upset no one's planning me a party, but damn, it makes me feel like no one cares.
Ok, emotional outburst aside... :o sorry for that...
Good to hear the reviews on the nursing tanks, and where to find them. The mat. section at our Targets both SUCK! And one is kind of far away, and the other, I have to pay to park at. So I hate going to either one and not finding what I was looking for!
What about for those of us who are, ahem, well-endowed, even before milk comes in? Would these tanks still work? I HATE regular, shelf-style bra tanks.

I'm glad I am not alone in feeling this way. I feel horrible about it as I know it isn't a "must" and it isn't like I am entitiled to it or anything but this is hugh to DH and I and feels like it should be celebrated. What makes it even more strange is the fact this is the first baby in MILs family for 10 years! It is the first grandchild on both sides (my family are European, live in Europe and showers are not a custom there), the first greatgrandchild and greatgreatgrandchild on MILs side of the family ... yet nothing! I don't get it I honestly don't. I'll admit I am upset no one is throwing me a party. I do know the girls (and few guys) at work are planning a little something, which makes me happy. It just seems strange people I didn't even know a year ago are more excited than our own familes
Okay vent over :o

craftgenius what a sweet shower! you have great friends.
birth plan one of the many things on my to do list. i really wish i still had mine from last time, for reason i can't find it. i like doing them, mostly so the nurses know what i expect as far as newborn procedures go. we can all have such different expectations of this experience, i think it's good to let them know what type of person they're dealing with.
msh i don't think you're being greedy at all. i would be totally hurt if nobody was having a shower for my first. hopefully it's just a surprise.
coming home outfit ds will come home in the same outfit dd did. i just hope it isn't *that* hot at the end of sept, since the outfit is pretty warm. i guess i'll bring a onesie just in case.
we had a super-duper crappy weekend here. dh threw up for 2 days non-stop (this has been going on since april) and needed to go to the er sat night. meanwhile, our power had been out all day (and it was 110  ). all local hotels were booked, so a friend took dh to the hospital and i took dd to my parents house. they live near the ocean where nobody has a/c, but it was still baking at their house. dd slept in a diaper and was still drenched in sweat. i spent all night keeping us covered in wet towels and didn't sleep at all. on sunday we got to go grocery shopping to replace all of our food from the fridge/freezer...fun!

tgoody: Well, I'm having 4 big showers (my family, my friends, Hubby's family, Church) and I had one at work and one my kids/parents threw for me (I'm a teacher). So, I guess I technically say 4 but all in all, 6. At my first 2 (at school), I just got little things (and my bouncer) but mostly stuff like picture frames and albums.

Craft: what a lovely shower!! You look fantastic!
Birthplan: my plan is to have a healthy baby. The rest is TBD. :D Seriously though, I am not ruling out any medication or an epidural, but I want to try a lot of techniques first, like the hot tub & the birthing ball.
I had an ultrasound today: Fasolaki is head down, so what I thought was tapdancing on my bladder was actually head-butting. I still have a low-lying placenta, but it's no longer a previa. We got some good views of his face. He has chipmunk cheeks!! :D
This weekend, we rented the wallpaper steamer and were able to steam off the rest of the wallpaper in his room. We've got a little sanding and patching to do. Once the humidity drops a bit, we can paint! We picked up the paint from Home Depot; it's Behr's Sage Tint. We also bought a 4x6 rug at Building 19 (a local close-out bargain basement type place) for his room. The contrasting colors in the rug are a dark red (I'm thinking we'll do the curtains this color) and black (I'm thinking we'll buy black frames for the pictures we are going to put up).
I was pretty dizzy on Saturday morning. It felt almost like I couldn't get enough breath. I sat in our recliner for a while and dozed. I felt better after that.
I am so damned uncomfortable at night it's ridiculous. Despite having the body pillow, my hips hurt like a mofo. :(

{b}: re nursing tanks -- how well endowed are you? i was a 40D before having my daughter and the XL nursing tank at target fit well.
also, they're not in the maternity section at my store, but rather in the bra section, on an endcap. hope that helps you find them =D

What a weekend! MIL and SIL flew in on Friday with the kids (3 year old boy and 6 year old girl), it was a lot of fun! I actually had to go back to work after I dropped them off at home, by the time I got home we just took the kids for ice cream and they went to bed. The rest of the night was girls night, my sister and a friend of ours came over for dinner and we just talked, and talked and talked… it was a nice time. DH got back home Saturday morning (it was nice seeing him after the whole week!), we just hanged around the house until it was time to get ready for the shower.
The shower went great, everybody was super generous, I got a lot more than I expected; I am pretty set with clothing (other than oneses) from 0-3 months, I got pretty much everything from my registry, but I still need some small things I did not get (we will probably go get it this weekend). I honestly thought I would get small things and we would have to purchase the big items, well I was wrong! We got the jogging stroller, the pack and play, the swing, the saucer, the high chair, the bathtub, the diaper champ… I could go on and on, but basically we got everything from the registry that was more than $40. The only big item we did not get was the breast pump.. Which I honestly did not expect to get, but we are ALL set with everything else. We put everything in the nursery, and let me tell you, looks like if a truck just drove over that room! I have to do some clean up this week and organize everything.
I also got the regular stroller (my sisters' present) and we assembled it over the weekend, let me tell you… I love my stroller!
I will post pictures tonight from the shower and the messy nursery. Friday I have another shower with work; I think I will get clothes for the most part, but that works for me!. Hopefully we will get some of the smaller items we still have in our registry. I actually have to do some major clean up, because a lot of people purchased stuff from the registry but either they didn't update it or there is something wrong with the web.
Craft- Great pictures from the shower!
Birthplan: my plan is to have a healthy baby. The rest is TBD. Seriously though, I am not ruling out any medication or an epidural, but I want to try a lot of techniques first, like the hot tub & the birthing ball.
Dionysia- I could have written that myself. I am pretty much open to anything, but I am going to try to go without an epi first. And yup you are right I meant maso :D.
Tgoody03- the shower went great, I honestly did not think I was going to get as much as I did, I was thinking I would get stuck with more of the 'bigger stuff', but I am pretty much done in that department which is great!
I am waiting to hear back from Tricia, but I already asked them to schedule it for the weekend that I had in mind (8/19). I am not sure if I will do any semi/nude pictures, I am definitely thinking bare belly but probably nothing else. I can't wait to see yours! You have the post them as soon as you get them, or you can email them to me if you don’t want to post them here.
I do talk to V from time to time (we PM each other in the web sometimes) and I visit her journal occasionally, but I have not been in touch with Ida nor anyone else. Is been crazy!
Suiej- good luck in your shower!
Booksie- thank you for the nursing bra/tank advise, I need to go to Target and check those out.
MSH- I can't wait to see the nursery, doesn't it feel great when you get that weigh off your shoulders??
Dana b- Everytime I see those temperatures I can only think to myself 'I should not complain so much about the heat', we've been in the high 90s lately and I can't stand it, I can only imagine how is it like there.
Dawny- you totally have to check out the boyfriend that is what sisters are for, right: ;).
Minivans- sorry but no thank you, I am not a mini van kind of girl, but of course that might be because I do not have the need for one. I drive a VW Touareg and that should be fine since this is our first baby.
Going Home Outfit – yup, already got that one picked out, once I put everything away from the shower I will take pics of the outfit.

B]tgoody03[/B] - The shower organizer was a friend of mine who initiated the whole shower. She knows most of my friends so she got everybody together and brainstormed with them. She called them "shower hostesses" but it was just a bunch of my friends who put together the shower. She said that they all had mentioned wanting to help. The hostesses (the friends who helped) all had their own little duties and they worked together to purchase/make the food items and find a place to hold the shower. Different ones had little duties like organizing and running the games, passing out favors at the sign in table, writing down the gift items, cleaning up the mess as I opened gifts. And they all set up for the shower, decorated, and cleaned up the facility after the shower was over.
Babywish - Sounds like you made out like a fat rat at your shower!!!! The big item I was hoping to get at my shower that I didn't get was the swing. I'll probably buy it this weekend with some of my gift cards.
MSH and {b} - Don't feel bad about wanting a shower. I would be wondering...and a little hurt that if no one was planning anything too. But like I said earlier, maybe they are trying to make it a surprise. This is exactly why I don't like surprise showers!!!!!!!!
Camdynlyn - WOW! 4 showers!!! How cool ! This weekend was my big shower, but I'll probably have a small one at work. No one has said anything to me about it yet. Or maybe it will just be a gift from my group.
Going home outfit - I haven't decided on a going home outfit yet. I'll probably pick one this week as I go through the gazillion and one outfits I got at the shower.
Virtual shower - Are we getting assigned our person today? How will we find out who our person is????
Dana - That sounds AWFUL! Try to stay cool. Hope DH is feeling better soon!
DeliciousJones - Yes, thanks, that's exactly what I needed to know! The mat. sections are TINY at my local Targets, but it's good to know there's nursing tanks elsewhere int he store! Thanks a bunch for the heads up!

nursing tanks i'm thinking the liz lange target ones are better for the well endowed girls. i tried one recently and it was cut really high on my chest, it looked weird, maybe if i had bigger boobs, it would pull the tank down more. they get really good reviews from others though. they were also constantly out of them at our target and i couldn't find them online. i'll probably end up getting some more glamour mom tanks, but this time i'll go with the bra style, i got the tank style last time and they were too short, i like my tanks long and the bra style is supposed to be a couple inches longer. bravado makes comfy bras and i just saw that they are making tanks now

they're pretty freakin' expensive though!
because I'm tired of being a downer -
I contacted one of the photographers I work with at the newspaper about maternity shoots - here's what she said:
I charge by the hour and by package. A example of a package would be shooting session, editing of images, burned copy of the images as well
as a hard cover book with about 50 images for $200.
Is 50 images going to be just... too much? It seems like a rather reasonable price for all that, but I just don't know if I need *that* many photos of my whale-like state! LOL! Thoughts?

{b} that seems awfully cheap. i thought those books alone were pretty expensive. i would totally do it!! i'm sure if there aren't even 50 pictures that you love, that you can do the book with less than 50.

I need to go to bed, so no time for proper SOs, but thought I would update on my appt today. Baby's head has descended, I'm 30% effaced, but cervix still closed up tight. He did a GBS test and I should have the results next week when I go in for my u/s. Dr. is very pleased with where I am and said he could not ask for a better pregnancy for me. That was nice to hear.

tgoody- I think spacing is all about you & your DH. Things we took into account was our age (I am 34 & Dh is 39), our work situation (I had my DS at a time I knew I would be laid off with a comfortable severence package) & my first child's disposition (she was an angel, slept well & so easy to deal with, if my high needs son had come first we would have waited longer).
msh & {b}- I am sorry you guys are feeling let down about the showers. Maybe you will be truly surprised by your families. I hope so!
babywish- sounds like a greta shower.

Hi! I have lots of things to say and reply to but not enough time right now. Just a few thoughts:
{b} - That is really really cheap! I would totally go for it. Most photographers charge close to $200 for just the session fee. I bet when she says you get a hard cover book with the images, it's like a proof book not like a wedding album. We got one of these for our wedding and use it as our wedding album because we couldn't afford the typical album at the time. I love it because it has all the best proofs in a 4x6 size ... hope that helps you imagine what the book would be like. Most photographers won't give you all those proofs for $200 ... mine charges $5 per proof and its the unedited version. I think a 4x6 or 5x7 is $20 or $25 so you can see you are getting a deal. Also - I think my photographer took way more than 50 shots ... I didn't think that would be possible, but say you change your clothes twice and do a few positions then they will snap several shots of each to make sure they get one that's good. So I think that's why you get 50 or more. It's not too much, don't worry! Have fun with it!! This will be a really fun time for you!
UTChick - That's fantastic news. I'm glad to hear all is well with you. I like to not think about labor and delivery (not sure if that is a wise strategy!) so I'm not sure of many things, but when are you supposed to start to efface?
Can any of you tell me when exams start up again? I have my strep B group test on Thursday. Also, I've been having cramping - like period cramping. I don't think it's braxton hicks because they don't start and stop or start in the back. More just like lingering period cramps. Any of you have that?
Have any of you posted pics of your nursery? I came late to the thread so I might have missed the posts. I'd love to see what you girls have done - so post away, please!

{b}: $200 for time, talent, disc and book is dirt cheap! is the photographer just starting out and building her portfolio? if so, that's a fantastic way to get great photos without paying a fortune.
i'd definitely ask for more info about the book. some of the books that i sell have a wholesale cost of nearly $200 so that makes me wonder what kind of book she's selling. also, i bet she'd let you narrow down the 50 proofs so that only the ones you love go into the book.

I am here, baby is doing well. I am following along w/ everyone though. Hope everybody is staying cool in this heat. Our baby shower is Saturday & I CANNOT WAIT :D My next Dr.'s appointment is on Tuesday & they will be doing my GBS. For those of you that have had it done, is it painful? Is it just like a pap or something? :o Sorry, I just get anxious about things I don't know about so I want to know what to expect.

Judy~ I had my GBS test yesterday and my first internal exam and I did not find it painful at all. It was no worse than a pap...a little uncomfortable but not painful.
babywish~ What a haul from your shower! Wow! You look great, by the way. ;)
tgoody~ I had my GBS yesterday at 35 weeks. I don't really know when you are supposed to start effacing, etc. I think it might be different for everyone, but my doc was pleased with where I am, fwiw.
Well, the a/c guy is at my house for the 2nd time today. He came this morning to see about a small leak we noticed over the weekend. After he left, the a/c stopped working completely. He has been here for 2 hours now and it is just one thing after another. I feel bad for him. It is 90 in the house right now, so the attic must be unbelievably hot. I have been sitting under the ceiling fan with another blowing directly on me eating popcicles all afternoon. Gotta love it.
Babywish - shower looks like fun! You look great! Great haul! ;)
My belly isn't roundy-round either. It started out looking pretty funny in te beginning, and has become much closer to round, but it still isn't a "beach ball" type of belly.
Thanks, ladies, for your thoughts on the photog - She's a coworker (we work for a daily newspaper, she's a photographer professionally) so she may have dropped her price some for me. Also, I think she is looking to add more to her portfolio - she has no maternity shots or heck, even couples in her online portfolio - she's totally artsy and has a wonderful, unique eye. My thought on the book was something like the www.mypublisher.com books - I do want to see an example of the book she uses so I know what to expect, but I think we're going to do it! DH actually said, and I quote "What's $200?" I almost fell over. Money's a bit tight these days. But he's excited about the idea of documenting this, which makes me happy!

33W 5 days I thinkDh has ACl surgery on 07/11 and I have been a little busy taking care of him and Allie.

Excuse my ignorance ladies, but what is a GBS test? At my last appt last week my doctor did a test where she apparently took some type of sample...I saw the Q-tip thingy. Was that the GBS test? While she was down there she did an internal exam too.

GBS that's Group B Strep. Either you are positive or neg- it is one of those things that you are just a carrier of or not. The swab was it. If you are positive, you will need IV Antibiotics pre-delivery. Should your water break - you have an hour to get to hospital to get the antibiotics. It can harm the baby and be fatal if not dealt with.
I was GBS + with DS- My Ob just assumes that I am again because he said the chance of a false result is riskier than just assuming. So fine with me.
Although DS did get thrush and then I got a yeast infection on my nipples. I feel this antibiotics were the culprit- but oh well what do you do!

Had a doctor's appointment last night. Weight gain to date is 21 pounds. Blood pressure was good. Measuring at 32.5 cm. Baby's heartrate was in the 140's. Next appointment is August 15. I asked my midwife about internal exams and they don't start them until 38 weeks and only if you want them. I really like how they are as hands on or hands off as you want them to be. :)
Last night I went shopping for underwear that doesn't ride down under my ever growing belly. All I could find were some granny pants that gave me a wedgie. I bought them but this morning decided that I just couldn't wear them, so I will have to return them. I really need thongs that are super high rise in the front. Anyone found anything like that yet?
I ordered two dresses for our baby shower next weekend. I'm not sure which one will fit better, so I ended up ordering both. I can always sell the one I don't use back on eBay.

Not much new to report around here. I got my weight support belt and although it is still extremely painful to walk, it's nice to know that I can get up and walk if I want to. The doctor will be doing my GBS test at my next appointment and the baby has definitely dropped. I will be taking our daughter to the "Big Sister class" at the hospital this weekend. They will be learning about how to hold the baby, what it means to be a "Big Sister/Big Brother," etc. I am going to take her out to lunch before hand so it should be a fun time.

Back from the parents house. It was nice to visit, but I always find it so much more difficult to take care of Claire anywhere other than home. It was nice to get home last evening, even if DH is away. I went to bed at 9:30.
OB appt want well. I've gained 30 lbs now (5 in the past two weeks  ). baby is head down. She noticed from the swab she did at 27 weeks that I was + for GBS. She wants to repeat the swab when I see her at 36 weeks, to verify if I am GBS +. I wasn't for #1. I hope I'm not. I really don't want to have IV antibiotics during labour. I am seriously squeamish about IV's. I freak. Maybe they could give me the antibiotics orally??
Anyhow, just relaxing today!

booksie: i have a mother's helper 3x a week so i either leave rachel with her or i take rachel with me. the appts these days are so quick that it's not a big deal. rachel likes to play in the waiting room while we wait and when it's my turn, i scoop her into the stroller for the exam.

Wow, am I behind. I keep meaning to answer the QOTDs and chit-chat, but it never happens. Ugh!
Birthplan - I plan to have one, but haven't written it up yet. It's basically going to say that I prefer to exhasut natural pain management and delivery options before turning to meds, forceps, vacuum, and/or episiotomy. My midwivs have a form that I can check my preferences to make it super easy.
Going home outfit - Nope. It could be freezing or hotter than Hades (love NJ in September), so we're still playing it by ear. I hope to have a couple of reasonably cute options, though.

I'm lucky enough to have my MIL live about 10 minutes away(and I pass her house on the way to the doctor) so I usually drop them off there. If she can't watch them, my 15 year old sister is out of school for the summer, so she'll just come stay the night or I'll pick her up and she'll watch them.
Going Home Outfit: Acckkk, I so need to get one of those! LOL I have been avoiding it because I really don't want to buy anything until we know how big he might actually be. I think that I may pick something after my next U/S (I've got quite a few outfits that my DS outgrew before being able to wear them, so hopefully I can just use one of those instead of buying something new!)

Going home outfit: I bought a unisex outfit when I first found out I was pregnant. I'm not too worried about the weather, because DH will bring the car right to the door and we'll pull into our garage at home. Plus, we'll have blankets to cover the baby if it's too cold. So exciting to think about bringing the new baby home!!!!

Birthplan - don't have one, didn't have one last time. I honestly didn't miss not having one. Maybe because I was ok with getting meds I didn't feel like I needed to tell my docs ahead of time that I didn't want them and they just assumed we'd hold out until I was uncomfortable enough to ask for them. I don't know. I pretty much played everything by ear and was happy with how everything turned out. The only thing I should've mentioned in advance was that I did NOT want cytotec to induce labor and, when I got there at midnight to start induction, that was what they wanted to start me with. It took a while for them to find and wake up the doctor that was in the hospital that night to get an ok for something else.
Going Home Outfit - I actually picked something up this weekend (I'll take a picture tonight if I remember) it's very soft and very sweet and I like it much more than the going home outfit I had last time. That said, I may take it back. I have two issues - one, although it's 0-3 months (9-13 lbs) it looks extremely long. I have every reason to believe that I will have another 9 pound baby, so I don't want to get anything smaller, but I don't want it huge either. And my second issue - it's white. It's a beautiful white outfit, but I know I'm having a boy, so I think I'd like a little blue in there so everyone knows when they look at him (IRL or in pictures) that he's a boy.
Care for other children during doc visits - Because I work this hasn't been a problem for me - DS is already in daycare so even if I schedule a visit for my day off of work I just take DS into daycare a little early before heading to the doc's office.
-----------
Well, nothing new to report. I've got my next OB visit on Friday. I'm guessing I passed the 1 Hr GTT because it's been two weeks since I took it and no one called to tell me otherwise. I didn't pass the one hour last time, so I'm kind of surprised. But I won't complain if I did! Guess I'll wait until Friday to find out for sure.
We bought my son's toddler bed over the weekend so I'm hoping to start the transition to the new bed soon so the crib will be ready should we need it for the new baby. Other than that, though, things are pretty slow going. I'm rapidly outgrowing my smaller maternity clothes, turning my already small wardrobe into a miniscule wardrobe, but what can you do.
Nothing new here. I'm off tonight and tomorrow as usual, and other than a little shopping and a dr's appointment, nothing planned. Well, I have to vacuum and do dishes. I think I can handle that! Other than that, staying cool and reading a magazine and labor books. Heaven!

Dawny- I believe I asked my Bradley instructor your question about IVs and GBS antibiotics early on, because the thought of dealing with an IV while in labor... it's likely to be, for me, the straw that makes the laboring woman a foul-mouthed harpie. :) It was a while ago, so you'll need to double check, but I think she said injections were possible. Yes, it is still a needle, but at least it isn't there, taped to my skin, for hours on end.
Which means I would only be a foul-mouthed harpie for a second. Everybody wins!
twink- I love the first dress! The second is cute too, but the first is definitely more charming and mature looking to me. The nice thing: either one is going to look smashing.
djones- I just realized you were the one to start the cloth diapering thread here! Bravo, lady-- I've used it as a resource A LOT. It feels like there is a whole universe of information to master, but you make it seem so simple. Do you know, or should I ask there, if "Boudreaux's Butt Paste" is a diaper rash ointment you can use with CD? It doesn't say it has fish oil in it, but I want to make sure.
So ladies, I am beginning my 36th week today! OMG!!  That means in 7 short days, I will be ... FULL TERM. AAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGHHHH! Since I'm another one with registries off of which nothing has been bought, I'm going shopping in a major way to celebrate being full-term next week. But I need to make sure my shopping list is thorough. What must I absolutely have on hand to get through the first month with baby?
diapers (CD from a diaper service)
wipes (homemade)
diaper pail
finger nail clipipers
waterproof pads of various sizes (for bassinet, for lap, for under me in bed...)
nb t-shirts, since onesies apparently aggravate the umbilicus?
socks/hats to help baby regulate temperature
blankets, at least one of which is a swaddling blanket
baby washcloths
diaper cream
a few simple toys
vaseline
laundry soap for babies (i'm going to try *not* to use detergent)
installed and checked car-seat
nursing bras/tanks to sleep in
gas drops
alcohol for umbilicus
bedding for bassinet
hamper
Am I missing anything?? What? Don't be afraid to add to my list. I am SOOOOO ready to go shopping- early on in this PG I couldn't, cuz we were moving. Then we moved, and I couldn't, because maybe I'd have a shower, and besides, where would we put everything in this house we were completely remodeling? But now?? Now, let the shopping frenzy begin.
My goodness I'm long winded. Sorry.

Is alcohol required for the umbilical cord? I thought I read that you shouldn't use it? Anyone know?

iv for gbs i was positive last time and was told that i could get the needle injected, taped down (i think it's called a hep loc??) and they would connect the iv for antibiotics and disconnect when it was done, i think it needs to be done every hour or so?? that way, you're not connected the entire time. i delivered shortly after getting to the hospital so i was connected the entire time and i know i didn't end up getting the full dose of antibiotics, luckily it didn't end up being a problem.
aletheia i use all free and clear detergent and never had a problem with dd's skin, the baby detergents are much more expensive. i'd throw some gripe water in there and a stash of stuff for yourself -- granny panties, pads, colace, motrin, tucks pads, prep h suppositories, all that good stuff.
alcohol for cord i'm curious as well. i know it's one of those *new* things to not use anything for it. i used alcohol, i was afraid it would get all stinky and infected.

Alcohol for cord ~ It's not recommended to use anything but water on the cord these days. With my daughter, her cord fell off the day before we left the hospital (2 days old) and we hadn't put anything on it.
Aletheia ~ don't worry - I will definately be asking for an alternate method. The IV is a serious bother for me. I had one with my first labour (was put on to help contrax along) and I complained about the IV the ENTIRE time!!!

alcohol yeah- they told us nothing too- but Pediatrician did say if it is stinky alcohol is ok- we never did it and it feel off by 1 week.
diaper rash not sure what the question was exactly- but we have a mega tub of Triple paste ( you have to ask the pharmacist for it)
we started using it nightly once Ds slept thru the night- that wore off fast- we did it only for a short time. He has only had maybe 2 rashes- but it clears them off almost right away.
Longest day ever at work today. 12 hour day and I have seen 13 patients and one more to go. I was running my butt off this morning and I am so sore! I feel like my belly will fall off!

summer- I know! The week counting can be confusing. But I'm 35 weeks done today-- which means that every day this week counts up to make my 36th week, which means I'll begin my 37th week next Wednesday.
You can think of it this way: the day you turn 40 weeks is your due date, not a full 7 days after that (because that would be your 41st week.)
Same with birthdays-- some cultures (I've heard) say someone is 30 years old when they are working on completing their 30th year... we call those folks 29 until they've completed that 30th year.

Sorry, it just confused me since I'm 5 days behind you and today is 34w2d for me, I was confused at how you could be 36 weeks when I would calculate you to be 35w0d today. I guess I just say it differently... I say I'm 34 weeks this week and when Monday rolls around (35w0d for me), I say I'm 35 weeks.

aletheia - the waterproof pads aren't super necessary. Cloth diapers work wonders for burp cloths, stuff like that. I would recommend getting a bunch of those.

alethia Just looking through your list, if you are CD'ing, you will want some CD-friendly diaper rash cream. In the early days, we just used Lanolin--the goo you'll want to have on hand in case your nipples crack with BF'ing. Later we switched to Aveeno.
Older kids at appointment Dunno, my GBS test is in 2 weeks, so I need to decide by then. I may have the neighbor girl watch Colin while I go. I really don't want him hanging around asking what's going on during internals.

Birth plan - I'm not doing one this time around. I did one with my two previous but things never worked out like I wanted and I was disappointed. This time we are taking things one second and a time.
Going home outfit - I haven't picked one yet but we have about 10 premie outfits and we will use one of those. Both of my girls wore premie size for the first few days, or longer. Kaylea was over 9lb and she still wore them! The 0-3 size is still very big on them at first and since we will be taking a ton of pics the first few days I want something on him that fits.
kids at appointment - I've always taken my 2 girls with me. I've never even thought of not taking them. I've had internal exams the last two visits but they only takes 15 seconds or less so it isn't a big deal.
Things are going along fine here. I'm going to be a little disappinted if I haven't started to dilate at my appointment on Tuesday. I've had a ton of contractions everyday and it would be nice to know they are doing something. I dilated early with both girls also so I guess I'm expecting it. I've been very itchy!!! It hits all of a sudden and I itch from head to toe. It's happening 10-12 times a day. It's starting to drive me nuts. I have no rash so who knows what it is. I put lotion on a million times a day so I don't think it's dry skin. The girls and I have been hanging out at home a lot. If I do very much the contractions get more intense. I started freaking out last night thinking I'm almost 35 weeks and how DD#2 was born at 37 weeks. There is no way we are ready now or will be in 2 weeks at this piont. We had DD#2 stuff all done by 7 months but I've slacked a lot this time around.

I would suggest anyone who will be breastfeeding have this on hand in your hospital bag too. Maybe because I have c's & am in longer but I have always needed it within 2 or 3 days...last time I had to send my DH on an emergency trip to Target because my nipples were so cracked & sore.

"the waterproof pads aren't super necessary."
See I disagree - I found them to be one of the most useful things I bought. I didn't use them as burp cloths (plain old cheap cloth diapers for that) but I did put one down on top of the changing pad cover and one under his head if he was resting in the crib. It just meant that when we had the inevitable diaper leaks or pee accidents or spit up moments I didn't have to change and wash the WHOLE changing pad or the WHOLE crib sheet - it made for smaller laundry loads and quicker clean-ups.

Yeah, I guess those are one of those things that YMMV. I didn't even use one of the several I bought until DD was over a year old and had a stomach bug. Otherwise, I lucked out with DD. :) I guess I am still bummed I bought so many of them in the beginning and never used them. ;)

sigh! so I am a bit over-eager! summer, you're right-- while i might be in the middle of my 36th week right now, i won't be full term until i'm done with (not in the middle of) my 37th week... which is two weeks away, not one. Alas! I guess I'm getting to that stage where I'm eager for pregnancy to be over and mommyhood to begin!
So I'm going shopping today. I'm sure it won't be the last time. :)
I've nixed alcohol from the list and added cheapo cloth diapers. I already have the lanolin stuff and have started using it.
I'm going to put a crib-sized waterproof pad under my sheets on my side of the bed... just in case. I've heard that amniotic fluid is not good for mattresses. Is that what you RO's would recommend?

Good idea! I have two crib sized and since DS sleeps with us- we put one under the sheet but on top of the mattress pad since he ocassional leaks. It is way easier than scrambling to get a wet baby out of the bed and checking to see the damage!
Plus when he was new- his diapers leaked A TON! Until we found the right diaper fit for him.
sore nips My DS's Pediatrician gave me a script for Dr. Jack Newman's nipple cream. It was pricey for a tiny medicine bottle- but works great and no wiping off either. See if your doc's have heard of it.

kids at appts I'd have to be very very hard up to bring my daughter with me! I can just imagine how high my BP would be! Thankfully, we have both set of grandparents very nearby, so it hasn't been an issue.
Weird pregnancy craving # 10000: Ice Cubes. So far today, I've probably eaten a full tray of cubes. I'm on my second tray now. It's a really bad craving, I nearly went out of my mind in the car a few minutes ago. I almost stopped into a restaurant and asked for a cup of cubes!!!!
Aletheia I never used a mattress cover, cause I was told that the number of women whose water actually breaks with a big gush (like in the movies) is very very low. But, if you have concerns, it certainly can't hurt to have it!

Registery: I had to go Monday and add more to my list! I added about 80 or so more items because people were calling to complain that it was almost gone! :) I guess that's a good thing. I checked it last night and there is a ton more gone, too!! I have a shower Sunday, next Friday and next Saturday. Then, I have one at church August 20th. One lucky gal! Hubby and I were just discussing WHERE to put it all. I won't need the exersaucer for a while so it'll just stay in the box in a closet until we need it. We originally didn't register for things like that because we wouldn't need them right away but added them this week because of the complaining people!

Hi ladies,
Looks like our little one will most definately make a surprise visit in September. I just got out of the hospital (in since Tuesday) my cervix is completely thinned out and I am a fingertip - 1cm dilated (which I could be for the remainder of the pregnancy) I have to have cervical checks every week from now until delivery, will have my pessary out if I don't go into labor before than at 36 weeks. Doctor wants us to get to at least 35 weeks so 5 more weeks to go which brings me to the 1st week of Sept. So for now I am complete bedrest except for food, bathroom and shower. I don't post often as I mentioned before in here, since I am on the oct board and am 1 of the threadmistresses, but do follow here. Can't believe how close Sept is already. Since we had pre-term labor with my daughter and now this come up, we are getting the car seat this weekend and probably will install it, as well as getting my hospital bag ready, just in case. My trip to the hospital followed a doctors appt so no time to grab anything. (full story in my journal if interested)

Ericka~ Definitely take it easy so that baby stays put for a little while longer. Welcome to the group. Just prop yourself up and give your DH directions on getting everything ready. ;)
Aletheia~ That is a good idea! I think I will look into getting a crib sized waterproof pad, too. Of course, I am fully expecting my water to break while I am teaching a bunch of 2nd graders because that would be my luck! ;) You never know, though!
Going home outfit - I am taking a couple of onesies (a newborn size and a 0-3) with some little pants to match. I just keep remembering how my mom said that my grandmother had to go buy 0-3 outfits for my brother when he was born. He was 9lbs. and 23 inches long. The newborn onesies weren't long enough to snap even though he was so skinny he swam in the 0-3's. With all these tall men in my family, who knows how big/long this baby will be. I am sure we will get a better idea next week when we have the u/s.
I have my hospital bag about halfway packed. Just the last minute things left to throw in. I have all the baby's things set aside and will put them in the diaper bag when I get it at my shower on the 5th (it's a gift from my mom). Can't believe how close it is getting!!

I started packing my hospital bag last night. I had gone to Target and got some travel items of soap, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, face wipes and jazz like that. I put it in a bag (and realized I needed a bigger small duffle instead of the small Vera Bradley I had it in). I also laid aside a nursing gown I bought and a nursing bra. I have a few sample sizes of Lanolin I will throw in there as well as some free breast pads I got. They are the disposible kinds. I'm trying to pack small stuff so I don't have a HUGE bag. If I run out, I can always have Hubby come home to get more.
I've also got Bean's take home outfit ready. I looked at the booties last night and THINK they'll fit but I'm taking a smaller outfit just in case. The outfit I've got is a preemie and judging by my neighbor's baby (8 pounds), it should fit her. Oh yeah, I also packed a couple granola bars a mom gave me at one of my showers in my 'Mommy survival kit.' Only a couple more things I need to pack!!

We bought a regular waterproof mattress pad for our bed (not crib size) when we had our first baby and I'm so glad we did. It's cloth on top, not plastic-y or anything. I was afraid my water would break in bed. It didn't, but there have been countless times since then where it came in handy. Between breastfeeding and bottles and sippy cups and leaky diapers, etc. I think my mattress would have encountered at least a few soaks. And we didn't co-sleep either. It's just a thing with having a little one around and I think it's better to be safe than sorry. I also recommend the waterproof pads for the crib that wrap around like a fitted sheet rather than the regular rectangular pad. They bunch up less and are more protective. BRU has some nice ones.

I had a super quick and easy midwife appointment today. I am down one pound from my last visit. This is not bad - I was up 4 lbs in two weeks at my last appointment. I've been trying to cut done on carbs since then - at my midwife's recommendation. My GTT was a little high, not bad, but still enough to make her suggest I watch my sugar intake.
Today we talked about the circumstances and stress I was under at the time of the GTT and this midwife said not to get stressed about the carbs, the stress I was under probably kept my sugar higher than it would ordinarily have been.
Also, she would prefer I not lose anymore weight, so... if I want it and it doesn't make me sick and has some nutritional or medicinal value, I'm good to go, within moderation. That's reassuring since the ice cream really cuts down the heartburn and the Pepcid, even twice a day, is starting to fail me again.
I'm off to NY to visit the family for the last time until Christmas. I will be offline all weekend and won't be back until Monday night. I'm hoping not to get the shakes from withdrawl. :-)

Erika: OMG!!! I can't believe it is so close for you!! It seems like only yesterday that you were delivering Rebekah! PLEASE take care of yourself and make sure you listen to the doctors!!
As for me; I've been having contractions since I woke up this morning and well, for the last 1-1 1/2 hours they have been every 15 minutes and I've had quite a bit of mucusy discharge, so we'll see if this pans out to be anything!

Ladies, I've PMed everyone ( I think). Please check your messages. I hope I didn't miss anyone!
LMC Wow! take it easy, it's still kinda early! Are you going to call your OB, or just wait a little longer to see what happens?
I'm sitting here munching on my ice cubes again  . Oh well, at least they don't have any calories, right?
DH comes home tomorrow. :p I'm so excited to see him!!!

deliciousjones Really? A sign of iron deficiency??? This has been my worst preggo craving so far, in that I seriously would run over someone to get a chunk of ice!! I'm sitting here with a little bucket of cubes next to me. I'll have to eat lots of spinach and steak I guess!

LyLMyssChaos - crazy isn't it. I thought of that while I was in the hospital, it's been once crazy year for us, Than the thought of possible preterm labor again. At least we are 6 weeks farther along than I was with Rebekah so it's good news and now just to get into September.
Hope things calm down for you as well.

Went to the dr today because I thought I had a yeast infection. Well we aren't sure what is wrong. It is either a bladder infection, a UTI or a yeast infection. I will find out tomorrow and let everyone know then

ICE: Funny ya'll mention this because it's been my biggest craving so far (I'm actually crunching as I type!!). My hubby was concerned and asked the doctor and he said to just make sure I take my vitamins. If I SEE ice, I HAVE TO HAVE IT! This has been going on for about the last 5 weeks so it's nothing new, though.
So far today, I've had 5 cups of ice! I usually end up with somewhere between 7-9 by the end of the night and always go to bed with some.

ericka and lmc- you tell those babies to stay put, or else! i'm glad you're both as far along as you are, but still... that's scarey! For you, and for the rest of us who still have stuff to do before babies start arriving! So take it easy. :D
ice and cravings- really? a sign of iron deficiency? how curious!! i haven't even thought about an ice cube and have actually been quite content drinking water out of the tap (new for me.) but what i have been drawn to, irresistably, is milk. DH had 2 bowls of cereal in 1 week, and I drank the rest of the 2 gallons I bought for that week in 5 days.
He had a woman come in saying she'd been craving milk (he's working in Labor and Delivery right now) and he told her that I had polished off two galons in 5 days. She said I sounded crazy. Nice thing to say to your doctor about his wife, eh?
So I went to Target and spent $215 today!! Eegads!
roadrunner- got your pm! that's too funny. :)
alliesmomma- i hope whatever it is, it goes away quickly! sounds unpleasant.

i'm an ice freak. i have this whole system down to maximize my ice chewing experience. wanna hear it? :)
i fill a huge cup with ice cubes (overflowing) and then i let the tap water run hot and fill up the cup. then i dump the water out (but leave in the ice) and fill it again with hot water. this allows the ice to melt down just enough to make it perfectly chewable.
i did the same thing with my first pregnancy and ended up breaking a tooth and needed a root canal!

Just 4 short weeks until my scheduled C-section!!!!!
Today I had my 34 week ultrasound and dr's appt. The baby is doing great...HB was 151 and she was measuring 4 lbs 13 oz. She was moving around a lot...fluid was good, cervix was good, blood flow through the cord was good, etc. As for me, my blood pressure was good (124/71), and I came back GBS negative. So I couldn't be happier!
After my doctor's visit I went to lunch with about 10 coworkers (one of them is leaving us). We were all having a nice time at this restaraunt and the food was great. As we were waiting for the check, all of a sudden out of nowhere I started feeling woozy and started throwing up!!! I threw up by my seat a little, then two of my female coworkers jumped up and helped me down the hall to the bathroom...threw up more in the hall then let it all out in the bathroom sink!! It was HORRIBLE and so EMBARRASSING! My coworkers were so great...they just jumped right in a took care of me....held my hair back while I was throwing up, got a chair to the bathroom for me, wiped my face with a cold wet napkin and got me some water in a cup and some crackers. They wouldn't let me drive back to the office for fear that I might start throwing up again on the way. So one of them drove me back to the office in my car. I teased them afterwards and said it was those motherhood reflexes of theirs that kicked in (they both have several children each). So when I got back to the office those 10 coworkers were telling EVERYBODY, "Melanie got sick and started throwing up everywhere!" How embarrassing! I told DH and he thought it was hilarious.
When I got home today I was pleasantly surprised to find DH assembling the baby's crib!!! :D It is so pretty!!! I can't wait to put the bedding on! I'm going to get a mattress pad tomorrow, then I will put on the crib bedding and take a picture for you all to see. :D

craft- eeks! only 4 weeks!!!
djones- man, it's a good thing we don't live in the vicinity of the same target, then-- there would be nothing left for other people to buy. ;)
that's probably not true, but i did get a lot of stuff today! it was fun. and i am POOPED OUT now-- i just finished sort of putting it all (mainly) away. the clothes and bedding and other washable stuff is going to have to wait-- i decided to use Shaklee laundry soap (I was raised with it) and it comes in the mail in one more week.
But I bought everything from curtain rods to the wooden letters that spell out baby's name! I got the elements to turn my favorite bag into a diaper bag, I got both finger nail clippers *and* scratch mittens (can you tell I'm paranoid that the baby will scratch its little eyes out?). I got a laundry hamper and baby tylenol. I got everything. I'm so blessed that I can just go out and do that! :o
I bravely soldiered through decision after decision, but I was stymied in the lotion aisle. I have terribly sensitive skin- baby oil gives me trouble, for instance. So deciding what to put on my precious baby's new skin is almost as bad as that nightmare where it scratches its eyes out. Ugh.

LMC & Erika- Hope you can keep those little ones in a little longer;)
Craft- That stinks, hope you are feeling better. At least you are pregnant so you have some sort of excuse & maybe your co-workers will tone it down a little.
Alethia- Target is crazy, add kids to the equation & it is dangerous! They have newborn size clothes (NB) that were the only things that fit my kids well for the first couple weeks. I have a list of at least 30 things I need to get next week, and I can't wait to go, it will be the highlight of my week.
allies- hope you feel better too.
UT- My kids each wore 0-3 home from the hospital. DDs outfit was Ralph Lauren (which run super small IMO) & DSs was Gymboree. Both were swimming in them & my son was 9lbs 3 oz when he was born. They are so little and scrunched up that everything will look big so just find something that you think is adorable preemie or 0-3.
Things are great here. We drove the Odyssey & Sienna again last night & started dealing. There are a few things I like better about the Odyssey (power sliding doors on both sides, a fold away 8th person seat), & it just seemed more luxurious. However the Sienna has fabulous power windows on the sliding doors (which DH loved) & we seem to be getting more negotiating room, so a better price. I wouldn't be surprised if we are driving one of them by the end of month....MONDAY! Can you guys believe it will be August next week??????
I also dug out my first bin of baby stuff & did a load yesterday of cloth diapers (burp clothes), onesies, blankets & the tiniest little socks ever. I forgot how small newborn feet are. The breastpump & bottles got put aside & will get re-sterilized once our kitchen remodel is complete in a couple weeks. Oh & newborn boy clothes, put away until we find out if it is a boy or girl:)
Hope you all have a great day!

UT- DDs outfit was Ralph Lauren (which run super small IMO)
I just had to second this comment! My MIL LOVED to buy Ralph Lauren stuff for my DD at On The Rack and I swear, nothing else ever fit her because she was so tiny, but the RL fit PERFECTLY! We actually could buy stuff up a size and it would fit great. I know there is a thread somewhere around here about different brands fit (i.e. long and skinny, long and roomy, short and skinny, etc.)

Haven't heard from the Dr yet but since they don't open until 9 I don't guess I would. Funny about the ice. I work at a hospital and have a ton of ice a day as well. To the point that no matter what floor I am on I just can't wait to get back to my dept to get my cup and get a cup of ice. I learned about the iron definciancy thing with my nephew. He was a little over a year old and always wanted ice which was mentioned at a drs appointment for him and his dr said that he wanted to run some tests on him to make sure he didn't have an iron deficiancy. Thankfully it wasn't anything but it is something we didn't know.

Question for you RO - Keep in mind that I am TOTALLY clueless about having a baby. While you're in the hospital, don't they provide EVERYTHING your baby needs?? Like diapers, clothes, socks, bottles, blankets, formula/supplement??? All you need is the going away outfit? I know this is a dumb question but again I am totally clueless!
2Jacks - I'm with you!! I was hoping to buy my virtual shower gift this weekend. What's the deal Threadmistress???

Deliciousjones: I have my ice to a science, too!! :) I use our crushed ice from the ice maker and begin filling it with water and I have to move the cup around so the ice doesn't melt together and clump up. Then, I have to poke my finger in it until all the ice is free and in little bits! We are crazy!!!
Craft: WOW about lunch. That happened to me the day I found out I was pregnant and was out to eat supper with friends (only 1 knew). I threw up all in the bathroom and everywhere. It was crazy!!
**
I had a good amount of BH yesterday. Not long enough to tell you how long they lasted but enough to let me know they hurt. Bean moves around like crazy, too! She moves NON-STOP! I love feeling her but it sometimes hurts. I can tell she's starting to move into place because I have to pee more and there's movement 'down there.'

Craft- yes, they provide diapers, pacis, wipes, formula (I am pretty sure), nose bulby thing, comb, t-shirts, blankets, hats for baby. Also mesh panties, & pads for Mom. My hopsital sends you home with everything left over too, plus a formula diaper bag & a manual breast pump. Truly you should only need clothes for you & baby to wear home.
Not dumb at all:)

Had a drs. appointment yesterday. All went well. I lost 2 lbs for a total weight gain so far of 21 lbs. I'm happy with that! I think the pregnancy yoga is responsible for the weight loss. Are any of you doing pregnancy yoga? Baby is head down (she always has been) and I'm measuring 34 cm, right on schedule. Dr. is pleased with everything so far. Next appt is 8/10 and I'll have the GSB that day.
Craftgenius - Yes, I'm pretty sure you get everything you need for baby at the hospital. And, most people have told me to stock up on everything the hospital gives .... like keep the blankets, socks, hats, diapers, etc. because they will keep bringing more and in the end you are paying for all this stuff. Plus, people say the little hats, mittens, receiving blankets, and socks are good at the hospital so why buy any? But, that’s just what I've heard! I've also heard that the net panties you get while you are there are better than what you would normally wear b/c they are more comfortable. So people said to take those to - they'll always bring more! Hm ... I'm starting to sound like my friends are thieves. LOL! Oh, and they say those nose aspirator things the hospital gives you are way better than what you buy in the stores.
Cravings - You girls are cracking me up with the ice thing. I always thought it was pickles pregnant women craved, not ice! LOL! I have not had one craving this entire time. The only thing that is remotely a craving is that I want cold things to eat, not hot. So I like cereal b/c it doesn't give me heartburn, indigestion, or acid reflux and it is cold b/c of the milk!
Aletheia - My husband has semi-sensitive skin but any time you put oil on him (be it baby oil, sun tan oil, any oil!) he breaks out in a terrible rash. I've heard that Aveeno Baby products are very gentle and good for baby along with Arbonne baby products.

Hi ladies,
Ericka so scary about being in the hospital. And sorry about the bedrest. Here's hoping your little one stays put!
LMC contractions every 15minutes??? Have you called triage? Here's hoping your little one stays put too! Keep us updated!
craft wow, only 4 weeks to go! Man, time is flying! So sorry about the pukefest.
alliesmomma hope your feeling better.
Not much new here. I am hoping for another shopping trip to Target. I love that store! I am hoping to get lots of things knocked off my list. I'm slowly getting there. Got my diaper bag and baby sling in the mail yesturday. Clueless about both! I was hoping the diaper bag came with directions or something! So many pockets... and the baby sling (I got a peanut shell). I was worried it was too small, so put my 9lb cat in it. She loved it! I could hardly get her out. When I finally got her out she kept following me around, purring! Hope the baby likes it half as much!
Wow, we are all getting so close... wonder who is going to go first...
Poor DH is starting to get squeemish about L&D. He keeps saying "I hope I don't pass out, I hope I don't pass out..." Men. So "brave"
Take care everyone. Hope no babies arrive this weekend and we get lots and lots of stuff done.

ericka and lmc - Get some rest, and let those babies bake a little longer!!
ice - It's a HUGE sign of iron deficiency, pica, basically. It's also what causes pregnant women to eat sand and paint chips. Weird. I notice it when I crave baby carrots, sine they're hard and crunchy and usually cold, like ice cubes.
I've been craving ice cold water, cold fruit, and veggies, but not ice cubes themselves. Although, I can't seem to get enough fruit popsicles and frozen lemonade. Mmm. Maybe it's just because it's so hot!
Our furniture is ready for pickup! (Just have to figure out how to pick it up!) DH didn't want to pay for delivery and setup, so I'm going to let him figure this one out.., I just want to make sure we get it all in before next weekend, because my mom is coming to visit for the next shower and I would like to be able to show her the furniture.
I had an OB appointment Tuesday night, everything looks good, baby is positioned "perfectly", head down, butt by my left ribs, feet by my right ribs. My doctor said I should probably get even more uncomfortable as the days go by, I kind of figured that. My next appointment is August 7th.
We went down for our hospital tour after that, it was pretty nice! Labor, delivery and 2 hours of recovery are all in the same room, and then I get moved to a post-partum room for my stay. They have 24 private and 4 semi-private, so DH and I are definitely going to try and get into the private room. It's first come, first served, but they usually don't max out on rooms. (I hope!)
We start childbirth and infant care classes on Sunday, I'm hoping to get some good information to ease my mind a bit!
Have a great weekend everyone!

You all remember a few weeks ago when I said that I love weird smells (gas stations. hardware stores, etc.)? So now I'm thinking that I have this PICA thing! Hopefully it will go away with the end of the pregnancy.

Camdynlyn That is an adorable outfit!
Ice I have been an ice chomper lately, too. But I eat a lot of red meat, so I don't know if it is related to iron deficiency for me.
Indecisive Much? I have found that I am utterly unable to make a decision lately! Last night at the grocery store, they were out of my favorite kind of bread. I spent five minutes looking at all the different types of bread trying to decide which one to buy. And it's just freaking bread - who cares!?! This weekend we are going car shopping and I have already explained that it is going to be a very frustrating experience for DH as I have no idea what kind of car I want, just that I want an SUV (I think! ;) ). I can feel a fight coming on already...

fwiw, i just bought an SUV and i love it. it's the hyundai sante fe. i can't say enough good things about it. a mom in my playgroup just got the mazda 5 (with the collapsable 3rd row) and loves that just as much! she gets way better gas mileage, though.

I am back! Seems like today should be an ok day around the office, trust me I need an Ok day because lately it has been hectic, I honestly feel like I will never be able to get all my work done before leaving on my STD… ugh! The worse thing is that I do not feel motivated at all to do work related stuff, it is just so hard to concentrate when I just want to read about baby stuff.
Yesterday I had a dr's appointment and everything seems perfect, I am measuring right on schedule and they will do my GBS test next visit (August 10th and August 15th), ... I can believe I will be full term by then, I really don’t think that I am ready for this. I keep thinking I have time to do everything else I have to do, but time is flying by and I do not get much accomplished. I have to say though that the nursery is back to its normal 'look', I put away all my shower presents, now DH just needs to move the big boxes to the attic (presents like the saucer, the swing, the jogging stroller… stuff that I wont be needing right a way, and we can unpack it once the time comes).
This weekend seems like is going to rain, and even though I hate rain I think is a good thing since that means we will stay in the house and I will be able to finish decorating the nursery, washing all the baby clothes and all that good stuff… Talking about baby clothes, are you guys also washing the blankets before the baby comes? I have no idea what I need and what I don’t need to wash, I was just thinking on throwing everything in the wash this weekend, but it sounds a little bit too much… thoughts?
Today is my shower with work, I am very excited because I really did not expect one. I honestly don’t care about what I get, fortunately I got most of what we need from the shower last Saturday, but I think is very nice that they are having a shower for me… I feel special :).
Next weekend is our childbirth class, I am dreading the weekend because is 6 hours each day.. talk about relaxing.
Have you thought about the fact that coming Tuesday we can say we are due next month????????????????? WOOOOOOOW!! It seems so surreal, specially for those who are due at the beginning of the month (like me)… man I am getting nervous now!.
Sorry no time for SOs today, but I promise I will catch up this weekend.
Have a great weekend!

batgirl- oh yes, do take a picture! i want to see! as for why i got a kangaroo pouch... well, i also got a moby wrap, a maya wrap, and a hotsling... because i'm addicted to craigslist and to the idea of wearing that baby one way or another. apparently in Portland such gifts are popular but not all moms like them-- only the moby wrap has seen any use, and i paid less than half for each of them (and the wrap was free!)
camndynlyn- the *only* possible thing that could make that outfit any cuter is chubby, delicious little baby arms and legs sticking out of the arm and leg holes. :D
34 weeks, 5 days
Ok, I so want to see the kitty in the sling! LOL! :D
Had a Drs. appt. yesterday. I hate that it took an hour and a half of waiting around for the 3 minutes worth of nurse/doctor face time I had! Dr. says everything looks great, weight and blood pressure are fine, and I'm measuring right on schedule. She says I have the easiest chart she's ever seen, and we all hope that continues!
Going baby furniture shopping (Slackers, aren't we?) tomorrow. I cannot believe how close we are to having this kid, and we've done nothing yet. Mom said she wants to buy the infant seat and extra base off our registry, but BRU won't deliver it, but she has no intention of ordering it for over 2 weeks. Hoping baby's not here before that!
Next appointment in 2 weeks, I'll have the GBS test then, and I think I start going every week after that.

Dr called back with the test results and it looks like I have a bacterial infection as well as a yeast infection. I went to the pharmacy to pick up the prescriptions she had called in for me and the only medicine they had was for the yeast infection and the bacterial. They told me at the dr to wash all the washclothes and my undergarments anything that would touch me there so it won't keep coming back. I have bleached all my white panties and I am using Clorox2 on the others. Anyone else ever have this problem and have any advice for me??
Ericka_Jarett
07-28-2006, 07:22 PM
After hearing about the infection with my last pregnancy, we started to wash our bath towels and washcloths after each use instead of using the same towel for like 2 days and just letting them dry on the rod.
I was diagnosed with another bacterial infection on Tuesday and we have been washing towels and washcloths and changing underwear about 2-3 times a day since last year, so no idea how I got the infection again, they don't feel it's from any of that stuff. I am on an antibiotic as well for it. Not YI though so that's good.
Good luck

You may want to do that, but not really necessary. Maybe just when you get home from work change them, if there are several hours before bed, than change again before going to bed.
We use the color bleach and hottest water setting for the towels and cloths. Most other clothes get warm water at least and color bleach.
Hope it clears up quickly for you.
