View Full Version : September 2006 Mommies: Growing our baby bellies in the 3rd trimester
LMC - So glad to hear the contractions stopped!
RosegardenC - I can't believe no one ordered your records! What a PITA! I'd be PO'ed too! Hopefully, they'll put a rush order on it and you'll have an answer Friday.
Nothing much happening here. Feeling baby move all the time now, though mornings s/he is not very active.

28 weeks 5 days
Brought from my live journal. Pregnancy week 29
Lets see where to start. Things are going really well. We are on the downhill slide just have no baby bedding yet or anything but we will make it through that. Whats our latest news. Saturday David called me at work to ask me a question and he said can you ask one of the drs there what he thinks I should do. And as soon as he starts talking I knew exactly what he was going to tell me. He had been out rock climbing with the church and there were on this thing called the Devils slide and he was coming down the slide and his feet started slipping. All of his weight ended up on one foot and he heard a pop. We took him to the Er when he got home that night and the Dr said I am fairly confident that it is a torn ligament but follow up with your ortho on Monday. We called his ortho this morning and they got us him. It turns out he has torn his ACL. We have an MRI on Thursday morning. And appointment next Wednesday and then most likely we will be scheduling surgery for the next day or the following week. So he will most likely be off work for at least four weeks. He has time off to take off but it is going to wipe out his Time off for when the baby comes he was going to take two weeks off but now he won't be able to do that. I know God will help us through this but it is so frustrating this is all going on. I know other people have worse things but this is the last thing we needed right now. We finally got all of our bills paid off and here we go adding more. Hope everyone is well.
Anyone ever had this happen before. What can we expect?

Alliesmomma: I've not had any experience with ACLs (my dad did have surgery as did my grandfather and best friend) but I know nothign about it. I know it takes a while to heal if surgery is performed. My thoughts are with you, though.
If it's torn, I don't think anything will fix it other than surgery. That stinks, what bad timing. Hope he's not in too much pain!

No he isn't in to much pain unless he puts weight on it. Does anyone know about the length of hospital stay??
It probably won't be too long, but he may have to do physical therapy for several weeks, I'd imagine?
A quick webMD search shows the ACL can't be healed, but is replaced. here's an interesting article for you:

TMI warning
Anyone else having difficulty/ issues after DTD these days? Yesterday I suffered so badly, my belly was really achy, I was having contrax all day (not regular) and the sides of my belly were practically throbbing!! I think I might have to tell DH that we have to stop until much later in this pregnancy.
Tubs ~ we used one similar to the one Camdynlyn posted, but I had a lot of difficulty with it. Ultimately, I found the best way to bathe Claire until she could sit up was in the big tub with this teddy bear shaped sponge thing that she lies on. I tried to find a pic online, but couldn't. It's basically a sponge, shaped like a teddy bear, it's about 4 inches thick and I think it cost about $5. We got it at Wal-Mart. It was so easy to use, and I found that she was much more secure than in the little tub, where she was constantly sliding around.
alliesmomma03 ~ I hope your DH has a quick recovery.
RosegardenC ~ I'd be seriously angry as well. I hope that they get the records so you can get some answers soon!
I dyed my hair red yesterday. Don't know why. It does not look bad, just not very natural. My natural haircolour is dark brown, and I just wanted a change. I am getting my hair cut at 10 this morning, and I'm terrified that I will bite the bullet and tell her to chop it all off!! I miss having short hair, but I've spent the last 1.5 years growing it out, but now that it's long, all I do it pull it back in a ponytail. DH hates short hair on women  and will be broken hearted if I cut it. Oh well, we'll see what happens when I get to the salon!
Off to call the lubmer yard to order more wood for the never ending patio!! It's almost done though - the end is finally in sight!

Alliesmom, My DH just had is second ACL tear surgery(both knees are now done), its an outpatient surgery. If its done in the hospital than they usually dont even keep them overnight. It takes about 10 days to get back up and moving on it, and tell him to LISTEN when they tell him to use the crutches even if he doesnt think he needs them. DH stretched it out a bit because he didnt listen.....As far as going back to work, well DH went back the second week, it was painful for him to sit at a desk for any long period of time, so he worked a few hours came home and then would go back at night and do a couple more. Its a really easy surgery, the only thing you can do besides surgery is strength training in the area, and we do know people who have done this, surgery can be delayed, but dont wait 7 years like my DH did on the first knee... he tore the ACL, and didnt know it, so he kept on mountain biking, skiing, rock climbing for 7 years, by the time he did it in for good skiing one winter, the surgery was pretty long and painful recovery because he had a ton of cartilage damage. If your DH just did it, it may not be completely torn, or could be just really stretched out (I did that two years ago and DS #2 did it last year spring skiing) They Ortho wont be able to tell for a few weeks even with an xray because of swelling. He should be able to work still as long as he uses a imobilizer and crutches (depending on what he does) Both DH and I did, and tell him to ice it ALOT! and elevate it when he is home and even at work under his desk if he can (trash cans work good) tell him to stop putting weight on it! thats the most important thing! and he def. can wait until after the baby it born for the surgery.... DH decided to have it because we were far enough out when he did it that he would be stable enough by the time the baby came, but had it happened now, he would have waited, as there is a long time for full recovery... (like 9 months!) now thats not to say he cant use it for nine months, he is walking fine now, he rides his bike to work for PT everyday, he cant run yet and stairs are tiring, but he is now doing them (stairs that is) for extra PT. let me know if there is any other questions I can help with

Dawny, I think doing things to your hair is part of the pregnancy psychosis! LOL! When I was PG with DS#1 had my hair dyed strawberry blonde (I have naturally DARK brown hair) with DS#2 I had it permed! This time I have resisted doing anything to it, but the thoughts are there to do something drastic, like get my below the waist line length hair cut short... NO I MUST RESIST! LOL!

Pregnancy Psychosis Tee-hee, I just straightened my hair last week and plan on getting it cut (nothing too drastic, just an inch or so) this weekend. :) So far, I haven't dyed it, but that wouldn't be too strange for me.
I took new belly pics last week but haven't downloaded them to the computer yet. I will post them when I do.
MIL has decided to throw us a baby shower on August 6. It seems weird that she is throwing it for us since she is the grandma-to-be, but maybe that etiquette only applies to wedding showers?
QOTD - Names for Family Members What do you plan on calling members of your family to the new baby? My list is below:
Me - Mommy (would love for it to be Mummy with an English accent, but I'm sure it would never stick)
DH - Daddy
My mom - Grandma
My dad - Grandpa
MIL - ? (We are letting her choose)

rosegarden Cool - did everyone in your family use mumy or just you? I just thought that if DH and everyone else said mommy and I said mumy, that the kid would still say mommy. Maybe not - you have given me hope!

Rose, Thanks for the advice. DH was really nervous because 12 years ago when his cousin tore her ACL she stayed in the hospital for 5 days and it took her a long time to recover. His ortho said to keep his knee wrapped and he didn't have to use the crutches if he felt steady enough with just toe touch on that leg. Two weeks is a whole lot better then we had originally thought. He is a supervisor and only has to get up to resolve alarms so the movement is minimal.
I am also needing to mop my kitchen floor. THis weekend they replaced my dishwasher because the one the landlord put in was a lemon. It had stagnant water in by the time he came to take care of it so my question is can I use bleach to clean my mop since he mopped the yucky water with it and it stinks terribly. I would be using bleach and water. Let me know please.

Hello all!
QOTD-
Me: Mamma
DH: Daddy
MIL: Grandma
FIL: Grandpa
My mom: Mima (she picked, but said if Frijole has its own name for her, she won't object. :) )
I have a question-- I'll be 31 weeks tomorrow, and I'm really nervous that my baby has been breech (head on left, feet on right) for the last week, pretty much all the time. I know it is early, but is there anything I can be doing-- exercises, etc., just to make myself feel like I'm doing *something*?
Thanks to whomever posted about the tubs... I almost had a mini-melt-down and babies-r-us trying to pick one. Still haven't, but now I have some ideas!

FIL: Pops
My Dad: Papa
My Step-mom: Nana
My Mom: Grandma in Florida
My Step-Dad: Grandpa Joe
My Adopted Grandma: Oma
My Adopted Grandpa: Opa
DH's Grandma: Grandma Adeline (my DD is in Love with her great grandma because her name is Adeline Rose and my DD's name is Madeline Rose, so she thinks they have the same name!)

we thankfully don't have any relatives who insist on being called one thing over another. that sort of thing annoys me.
rachel called me "mama" until a few months ago and now it's "mommy" or "mami". she calls mark "daddy". she calls my MIL "yaya" and did that on her own without prompting (and we're not greek).
re: breech babies
i dont have any exercise suggestions for you but i can tell that you my daughter flipped on her own at 42 weeks. unfortunatley for me, she flipped from head down to head up so i ended up with a c-section, but know that they can flip late in pregnancy!

Twinks, Im wierd it was just me... heeheehee
Alliesmom, no problem Im glad I could give you some helpful info! If the Dr. said only wrap it and that DH could toe touch, well I bet he severly strained (like me) or did a partial tear, and that means Surgery is not 100% nec. if its a partial tear than strength training is TOTALLY a DOABLE option!!!

QOTD - I know my mom wants to be called Nana, but we figure it'll be up to the kid to decide what she wants to call her grandparents. They tried to make my older brother call our grandmother Mom-mom, but he could never get it right, so she was always Mommar to us instead.
alliesmomma03 Hope your DH is feeling better, and I hope he has a quick recovery. I've had a couple friends who have had sport-related acl surgeries, and they were always outpatient and back on their feet reasonably soon.
Bathtubs We registered for the Fisher Price Aquarium Bathtub:
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0009UBSFM.01._SS500_SCLZZZZZZZ_V1133992811_.jpg
Probably more than we need, but DH liked the toys and I liked the hammock part of it.
Question - Is anyone else annoyed about BRU registries right now? I got the email that they're switching over to a new site, but it's kind of a pain that I only have about 3 things that are showing up as "available" on our registry online now.
----
Had my GTT and 28 week ob appointment yesterday. The orange drink wasn't too bad, it went down pretty quickly since I was thirsty, and starving. If I need the next test, I will find out this week.
Up a couple of pounds, BP was slightly elevated, but I've been that high before and come back down. Heard the heartbeat and I measured "fine" according to my doctor. I actually had to ask about that, since I didn't measure "fine" the last time, and he sent me for the u/s and got me all nervous about that.
My next appointment is 7/25, then I'll start going every 2 weeks.
Getting lots of painful kicks today, she must not be too comfortable where she is! I notice a little activity early morning, then some after lunchtime, then a whole lot in the evenings. I swear, I think she knows when DH is near, because she seems to kick a lot more when he's nearby. Daddy's girl already!

QOTD
my mom - grandma
my dad- grandpa
mil- I guess grandma- we don't see her but holidays and I think once ds realizes who the heck she is we will refer to her as grandma Esther.
step-mom - my dad calls her grandma , but she doesn't call herself anything and I don't like her being grandma that is my mom. so I hope the kids call her something else
step-dad- Tom , my mom suggested pop-pop but I vetoed it since it wasn't Tom's idea and his grandkids call my mom Barb.
breech I thikn this kid is sideways too. i feel lots of action in all areas so it is hard to peg. I got to the ob tomorrow at 30 weeks- so maybe he will say something. This baby is a master acrobat though. my tummy is doing huge waves of motion!
camping was ok- lots of work- no rest. We bumped into a few famous people ( whom I didn't recognize) Gary Allan, Josh Turner and the singer from my husbands band was searched out by Rascal Flatts to go onto their bus! she is an adorable 23 yr old! If that tells you anything- Gary LeVox has been texting her- scum bag! HE is married with 2 small girls and admitted he would get into her pants if she let him! NICE! I have heard other things of that nature about them- turns me off big time.

QOTD:
Me & DH: Mommy & Daddy
My parents: Nanny & Poppy
DH's parents: Grandma & Grandma
My 'Pregnancy Psychosis' (as rosegarden calls it ;) ) has totally taken over. I chopped my hair yesterday, it's bobbed off to chin length, and straightened, and of course, red. DH got home last night, smiled at me and said 'well, it's definately different.' Of course, he didn't compliment it, but I didn't expect him too. My hair will never make him happy - unless it looks like Eva Longoria's  . Oh well, his belly doe not quite make me happy either! I, however, am quite happy with my new cut. I might post a new belly shot later, and include my head for a change.
Breech ~ add me to the list as well. All of my kicks/ punches/ flip flops are on my right side, with the occasional on my left. I though the baby might be changing position yesterday, as I got quite a few kicks just under my ribs last evening. At my last appt. the Dr. said the babe was lying sideways across my belly, but not to worry. She said with 2nd pregnancies, sometimes the baby does not move head down until nearer the delivery date.
pain ~ more specifically, in the hoochie area. Horrible pressure when I go from lying/sitting to standing. It aches kinda like a toothache. It's a strange pain, in a strange area. I'm assuming its just the pressure of my belly pushing down, since my belly is like a watermelon, and there is no extra weight enywhere else.
Extreme tiredness ~ anyone else still suffering from this? I seriously can barely walk 20 feet these days. I'm so exhausted. I find it hard to read to Claire, since it involves using breath. I cannot wait to deliver this child.
New QOTD: Re: Baptism ~ For Repeat Offenders who will Baptize/ Christen your child, do you plan on getting another christening gown/ outfit for this baby? I'd kinda like to use Claire's, since it was my Dad's, but MIL suggested that we get a new one, so that the kids can have each their own gown when they are older.
Well, I suppose I should go get dressed. Claire is watching Diego, and it's not yet 9:00. I have to figure out what we can do today, since DH won't be home from work until about 8:00 tonight, and I have no vehicle, since the truck is out of commission!

Names- DH & I are Daddy & Mommy. Both Grandmas had names from their other grandkids already , my Mom is Me-Mom & MIL is Gi. Both grandpas are passed but it melts my heart when my kids see a pic of my dad & say "Pe-Pop", also what Will calls lollipops though:rolleyes: . My Grandma was G-G until she passed last year.
Breech- It is still early, those babies ahve plenty of room to turn. I have an CC friend whose daughter turned at 39+ weeks & delicious says her dd did too. There are exercises that you can google that may help. I had a version at 37 weeks with dd 'cause she was breech & she never turned.
Baptism- - DH & I have not had our kids baptised, but I can say that my family has a gown that all the other Grandkids & cousin's kids have worn. It is beautiful and I think it is a great tradition to have a "family" gown.
2jacks- welcome back!
alliesmom- you look great. Hope yor DH heals quickly.
suie- cute that your baby is a Daddy's girl already!

Sorry I'm so behind (and my memory aint so good these days so SO's are becoming a b*tch! :) )
Di so glad your feeling better.
LMC How scary! So glad your contractions have stopped. Does your doc have you back on bedrest?
Babies R Us yeah, I'm pretty annoyed, too. Talk about bad timing for us! I ended up registering at Target, but once I get this first stupid dreaded MIL-thrown baby shower over with (you can see how excited I am about it...), I think I'll head to the actually BRU store and pick things out there.
Names Never thought about it. We'll probably just go by mom/dad/grandma/grandpa...
Baptism Our family has some old christening gown, too. Boy, won't our family be surprised when we don't use it! (since we aren't planning on baptizing...)
pain/exhaustion yes to both. I have been having lots of cramping... I think in my case I just overdid it this weekend (baby shopping!) and my fibroid is reminding me to take it easy. And I have been really tired lately... I am hoping this isn't just a prelude to what's to come (since I just started the third tri!)
Jeez, ladies, I still can't believe how close we are getting... I though May went by fast, now its going to be JULY! And july is when things for me start speeding up (appts every two weeks, baby shower, hospital tour, birth classes...)
Are you guys as nervous as I am????
Take care everyone!

batgirl~ No, they didn't put me back on bedrest, I was just told to take it really easy, so we've pushed my daughter's birthday party back a week and we'll take advantage of the upcoming holiday to have some family over to help get things ready because I was getting way too stressed. And enjoy all the stuff that is coming up, I know it will fly by, but try to enjoy it as much as you can because you will forget so much of it once it's done.
New QOTD: Baptism. We don't baptize infants in our church, but we do have a "naming and blessing" in front of the church. My husband will be the one performing the naming and blessing as he has done both of our other children. As for what they wear, My son just wore a little sweater vest/shirt/tie outfit we got at Wal-Mart and my MIL made this outfit for our daughter:
http://static.flickr.com/70/177021182_04e7634e20.jpg?v=0
It is a dress with a bonnet and the bonnet had 2 poems with it. One was about the bonnet (it can be turned into a handkerchief for her wedding by removing a few stiches) and the other was about the dress.
Here are the poems:
My Three White Dresses
Elder L. Tom Perry shared this poem written by
his daughter which she read at his granddaughter's baptism.
My mom bought me a white dress,
Not red or pink or blue.
She said it was a special dress
Like very other few,
There has been just one before,
A dress now put away,
That I wore some time ago
Upon my blessing day.
As a little baby clothed In my first white dress,
My dad held me in his arms,
There to name and bless.
So pure and clean was I just then,
With time to grow and learn
About the Father's plan for me.
My glory I must earn.
Now I've reached the age to judge
The wrong road from the right,
And I am here to be baptized
In this dress of white.
So once again I'm free from sin.
The path is clear to me.
I'll grasp the rod and hold on tight, I vow with certainty.
Just as mud would stain my dress,
Sin would stain my soul.
The key is to repent or bleach,
For whiteness is my goal.
And if I try my very best,
Then richly blessed I'll be,
Wearing inside God's holy house
White dress number three,
So today I make this pledge:
I'll strive to choose the right,
Through this sacred baptism ordinance
In my second dress of white. (Linda Gay Perry Nelson, 1993)
Here is the poem that came with the handkerchief:
I'm just a little hankie
As square as can be
But with a small stitch or two
A bonnet I will be.
I"ll be worn from the hospital
Or on my christening day
And after that be folded
Then carefully put away.
When on that future wedding day
So we've always been told
The well dressed bride must always
Wear something that is old.
So what could be more fitting
Then to find little me
And with a few fine stitches snipped
A wedding hankie be.
And if perchance it's a boy
Someday he'll surely wed
Then his bride can have the hankie
Once worn upon his head.

QOTD Names:
Me: Mama or Mommy depending on his mood
DH: Daddy
My mom: Gramma
My dad: Papa
MIL: Baba (which is Polish for grandma, although she's not polish (my dad's side of the family is which is why I know) but her name is Barbara so we thought it was fitting and easy for him to say... she asked to be called "grand ma ma or grandmere but I thought both were so pretentious that I basically laughed at her.)
QOTD - Christening Outfit - we will be using the same outfit we used for my son - I think having one family Christening outfit is fine, and fits with the sense of tradition that your MIL seems to want to instill by having each child have their own... this can be something to share within the family if they want to later.
QOTD - shortness of breath - yup, add me to the list. I've been having a hard time lately, especially if I have to carry DS up the stairs or something like that.

names we're mommy/daddy and the grandparents are grandma/grandpa unless the kids come up w/ something else. my dd just started calling my dad (technically step-dad) papa and that's pretty cute.
2jacks that would totally bug me if my dad just assumed my step-mom would be grandma. i know having step-families gets really complicated sometimes.
went to the dr. yesterday and i guess i just barely passed the gtt. i'm only up about 9/10 lbs and he gave me some antibiotics for a possible bladder/kidney infection. he also suggested that i get a maternity support belt b/c i can barely walk by the end of the day.
Names We haven't decided yet. I figure DH and I will be mommy and daddy. My mom has requested she be bedste (Danish for grandma), greatgrandmother and father IL will be nan and pa. Dunno about my dad, MIL and FIL.
Baptism We will use our family gown. It was made from my mothers wedding dress. Both me and my brother wore it. This baby will hopefully be baptised in Denmark in my church. I plan to embroider mine and my brothers names onto the gown as well as this babys.
Tiredness yup, I feel like I am in the 1st trimester again.
I had my 28 week appt and my 1hr GTT yesterday. My BP and weight gain were both good. The baby is head down, HB is good and measured 30w. The GTT wasn't bad at all ... I felt silly for being so worked up about it. I should hear back sometime next week.
Mommy IDs I am in the process of updating these so please let me know if you need anything changed :) I will go through the thread and update with belly shots and u/s's. Please feel free to post belly shots if you would like one added.
DTD - You have energy to do the deed? More power to you! It's been a long time in between bedroom escapades for us throughout this PG.
Names - just the normal stuff for us, I think. I'd like to be Mama because I find Mommy is too easy to turn into a whine. My Italian ILs are Grandma and Grandpa for the other grandkids, so I'm assuming that'll still be OK.
Baptism - up to DH. I am not religious, but will not prevent him from raising our child(ren) in his Catholic faith.
I have always thought this kid was laying sideways. I think I felt his or her head way up just under my right boob the other night. But I can't really say where baby is at any given time.
BRU - We just started our registry yesterday. The woman at the desk confirmed they are splitting from Amazon and also said that the BRU site will be pretty much useless until July 1.
Scared of birth - uh, yeah. Tryiung not to get worked up about it now. We have a class to take, and a tour of the hospital planned and all that, so I've basically just been putting it all out of my head until then. As my sister says, you can worry about it make yourself a lump of worry and stress and be scared, or you can realize millions of women have birthed billions of babies over the years, and you'll get through it, too.

DTD - You have energy to do the deed? More power to you! It's been a long time in between bedroom escapades for us throughout this PG.
Ha ha!! Yeah, I'm a bit freaky I suppose. Although, I don't think I really use much energy, and DH is happy to oblige me!
Funny. Talking about babies being in the breech position must have given my little one the push she/he needed. The baby most definately changed position today. I'm totally getting kicked all around the centre of my belly - around my bellybutton area. This is totally different from the side kicks I've had for weeks. But, they feel really weird, almost painful!!
I have to go straighten my hair. I look like a chia pet.

Position:This baby is definitely head down, butt on left side (where her elbows get me most often) and feet under my right boob. When I'm sitting and not stretched out, she kicks my ribs all the time!
DTD: Not AS often but just about once a week, maybe. It's not that I don't enjoy it (I do, actually) but it's getting up the energy TO do it that's my problem.
Baptism: I need to speak to my mom on this one. We are in between churches and haven't found one we love so I'm not sure what to do here.
Tiredness: Oh gosh. It hit me like a ton of bricks about 2 weeks ago. It's like 1st trimester all over again.
**
You know what's scary?? I just went and picked up a glider I'd bought from a woman with twins. She said she delivered at 35 weeks... that's only 4 weeks away for me! I'm so unprepared. I'll probably go really late (I was a due date baby and Hubby was 2 weeks early) but I'm pushing for August 27th (I think that's the date) because it was my late grandfather's birthday. That would put me 38w6d. Not too shabby.

dana b It does annoy me. Step stuff is super idiotic especially since WE didn't cause it! It is so imposed on us. ( yep- going through crisis since having DS that I thought I was over. But not only did divorce effect me- but now my kids too!)
close to due date a patient of mine brought pics of her three week old twins born at 30 weeks- I am 30 weks tomorrow! My baby could look like that! Wierds me out that this could all happen anytime. Plus I was 11 days early- my son was 11 days early- then my mom had my bro 4 weeks early- will I follow that much in her foot steps? Too much to do still!
pain mostly that sciatic hip thing still. hard to get up comfortably from sitting. I also got a wierd shooting pulling sensation in the hoo haa area. yippee.
I have to say I am more nervous for dleivery 2 than I was for 1. The unknown kept me safe before!

Bumping us up from Page 2 ;)
Names: I think we'll use the basics, mommy, daddy, grandma & grandpa. My DH has step parents so this should be interesting since I know they both want to be called grandma & grandpa. I hear all of you on how difficult the step parent thing is.
Position: I think my little guy is head down because I feel all types of kicks and what not on my right side by my ribs. I will probably ask my Dr. at my 32 week appointment just so I know.
DTD: We are definately not doing it as often as we were, but we probably fall into 1-2 times per week.
Baptism: We won't be baptising. We will most likely just be getting a blessing & presentation of our baby at our church.
Tiredness: Yup! Its getting quite exhausting to do anything!
____________________________________________
I am freaking out about how close we all are! I too feel like there is so much I need to get done before our little guy is here. I am hoping once we get our shower out of the way, we'll be going full force in getting things ready. I will most likely be going out on leave from my office starting the 2nd week of August. Is anyone else taking leave? When are you going off of work?

names My parents are mom-mom and pop-pop, dh's parents are grammy and papa. It will be the same for the new little guy.
position I just saw my ob on the 27th and he said he can't really tell which way the baby is. He said in week 28, 40% of all babies are breach. By week 38, only 8% are breach. I think Conor is head down with his butt on my left side.
DTD My DH will under no circumstances come near me while I am big. He just thinks it's wrong. He focuses too much on the fact that there is a baby in there. It irritates me to no end but what can I do... anyway I have no desire or energy to even try it at this point.
Baptism We are Catholic and this baby will be Christened by the time he is 6 weeks old. We are not devout but we do go to Mass and plan on raising our boys in the Catholic faith and will be educated in the Catholic school system. We were going to use Aidan's Christening gown but we've decided to get one for Conor. This way when they have children of their own they each can use thier gowns if they want.
Other than that I'm pretty good. I'm up 19 lbs and am ready to get this baby out. My best friend had her baby 2 weeks early on Sunday. A little girl named Abbey Lynn. She's beautiful. We took Aidan to see her and he was fascinated by the baby. Here's hoping he's just as good with his baby brother.
I now go to the dr's every 2 weeks. My next appt is July 7th.

Had my 28 week appointment this morning with Hottie OB. :D
Sir Wiggles-A-Lot is measuring right on target! His heartrate is a good 140 bpm.
I have gained 4 lbs since my last appointment, which is right where I should be: 1 lb per week. That brings my total weight gained during the pregnancy to 7 lbs. I did notice that I was eating more lately. ;)
My next appointment (31 weeks) is in 3 weeks. After that appointment, they'll go to every 2 weeks until about 36 weeks I think and then every week thereafter.
My hip pain had subsided a bit at night since I started sleeping with a body pillow, but last night it came back full force. It hurt so bad I woke up crying. :(
I plan to work up until Fasolaki's arrival.
So yesterday, I put in my formal request to go part-time when I return from my maternity leave. Albeit, it will be to a 32 hour work week (I've requested Fridays off), and I'll still handle most of the responsibilities I have today, but it will be much better. We are upgrading our Payroll and switching to a more automated HRIS, so the administrative burden will be less. Also, there are 3 of us in the department now, not 2. And we are changing our payroll schedule to biweekly eventually, and Payroll will never be processed on a Friday. I think my boss was surprised, and I did reassure him that I had every intention of returning to work and that I enjoyed what I did.
Hopefully TPTB will approve my request.
We're also in the middle of a larger issue which is to revise/tighten up our leave policies. My boss and TPTB were talking about making changes Very. Soon. Now. that would affect me negatively (basically cut my paid leave in half). While I agree that the STD policy needs to be tightened up and possibly changed to limit the length of the leave, I was terrified that they would make it effective NOW and therefore I would lose out on my LOA. Luckily, I think we've convinced him to hold off at least for now and even so, to grandfather in those of us who are about to go out on leave.

Position We saw that she was head down on the last u/s, and I've been getting regular kicks in the upper belly area (really up by my ribs). I think she's shifted a few times though, I get kicked or punched on both sides sometimes.
Tiredness Absolutely. I can't make it up a flight of stairs without getting winded anymore. I'm happy to report I'm not having much trouble sleeping, either!
DTD I miss the drive I had back in the beginning of the 2nd trimester. That's all I'll say..
Baptism I'm conflicted on this one. We don't attend church regularly, but we still would like her to be baptized, and we've thought about joining a church anyway. We just don't know if it will be Catholic (DH) or Episcopalian (Me). Either way, we should probably decide soon. She'll probably get a new christening gown, since I don't want to hack up my wedding gown yet, and my old christening gown (that my grandmother made) might be in pretty poor condition.
Work I plan on working until at least September 1. I'd like to take a week off before my due date, but I need to find out what my company's short term disability policy is offering for time. My HR person has been less than helpful. I'm hoping to take maternity leave (whatever is covered by short term disability, some accumulated leave, and the rest without pay) until the end of the year, and come back on a modifed schedule (and hopefully work from home sometimes) in January. Either way, I'm hoping to get it all in writing, since my company has a bad history with women on maternity leave.

Today I had my 30 week ultrasound and OB appt. Everything looks great...the baby is head down, her heartbeat was 146, her organs and everything looks great, the cervix is still nice and long, babygirl was moving around quite a bit, my BP was good, I gained 1 pound since my last visit 2 weeks ago...putting me at gaining 7 pounds overall. My next visit will be in two weeks...and thereafter I will have WEEKLY ultrasounds and OB visits!!!!! DANG, talk about eating up my sick leave!!!! Also, the doctor scheduled my C-section....if all goes well, my baby girl will be arriving on August 24th!!!!!! :D WOW! Only 8 weeks left! This is really about to happen!!!
OH...BTW...I am having my 4-D ultrasound this Saturday!! CAN'T WAIT!!!!
FYI, I told my doctor about my leg cramps and she told me to eat one banana per day and chew two tums per day (500 mg of Calcium each).
A coworker of mine takes FANTASTIC pictures...he does this on the side. I talked to him today and he has scheduled DH and I for a photo session next Sunday (July 9). As I have said before, I WILL NOT expose my bare belly but I still want some pictures taken of me pregnant. Are any of you ladies taking maternity pictures????
DTD - This pregnancy has seriously cut into our romantic life! Lately we've only been DTD once every two weeks or so! And when we do I don't enjoy it because I'm paranoid! Plus the whole time DH keeps asking me, "Am I hurting you?"
Baptism - Our church does not baptise babies...they wait until the children are older. But we will have a "blessing" ceremony.
God parents - Has anyone decided on God parents??? I think DH and I have decided to ask our friend Tiffini to be the Godmother and DH's oldest brother to be the Godfather.

Hello Ladies. I hope all is well with everyone. Lovin all of the cute 3rd Tri bellies.
Names: Our son mostly calls us both Hun, but other than that we are Mommy, Dad.
In our families, the oldest grandchild had the honor of naming the grandparents:
Mom: Grandmom
Dad: Pop Pop
MIL: Mimi
FIL: Pap
Tiredness: I've felt more fatigued throughout this pregnancy than the first. That is my only complaint. Otherwise, all else is wonderful.
Breech babies: The other day on House of Babies, the mid-wife had her patient lie down and place a bag of frozen veggies near the baby's head in order to coax him to turn. The mother did this for a couple of weeks before her scheduled c-section but it did not work. I guess babies have a plan of their own.

I'm so sorry about your grandfather. Your family will most definitely be in my prayers. My grandmother died 6 years ago today... on her 84th bday. It's still so incredibly painful to think about. On a lighter note, I brought my DS home from the hospital 3 years ago today.

allies I am so sorry to hear about your grandpa. My grandma died in March- had aheart attack then a storke in the hospital- she lived three more weeks in a nursing home and it was the worst thing for me. I know she wasn't happy- or in any kind of comfort at all. Surprisingly- I felt so content at her funeral. This from the one who blubbers no matter what. I just took great comfort in knowing she was in heaven- with grandpa- out of pain and had lived a long good life. I hope you too find this comfort!
DTD what's that? Oh yeah- that is what got me in this predictament in the first place! HA! Seriously- I think I can recall 4 " run-ins" since pre-preg. One that concieved this one, one make up after a fight months ago. Once last week in which it was me manipulating DH to come home ( text messages are great for that) and then yesterday when I begged DH to " trim me up" since I can't see a darn thing- and there you go.
Last pg I was super revved up- but now we hardly see each other much less have energy to touch each other.
Had my 30 week OB yesterday. Measuring right on- thyroid is still good, hemoglobin good. And the word from OB on leg cramps take 1000mg calcium with magnesium supplement. I am doing that!
Pulled a belly something at the grocery store yesterday. I was loading my cart after check-out and the checker ( major crab!) must have thought I was moving too slow so she snarled " is this stuff yours" reffering to my groceries on the belt that I hadn't gotten to yet. So I picked up the pace and wound up having to call Dh over to the parking lot to help me. I am fine today. good thing.
baptism our church doesn't baptize either- we do a parent child dedication where we promise to bring our child up in a christian home etc...

I was in a hurry to get into a friend's house and make dinner (starving again) last night. I swung open the back car door to get the groceries out... and swung it right into my belly.
How oh how can I forget that there is this huge parcel strapped to my mid-section?
I bet I'll learn its there and act accordingly as soon as...
the baby is out.
I do take a calcium/mag supplement and still get the cramps.
Alliesmom - sorry to hear of your grandfather's ailing health. He and your family are in my thoughts
So not ready for baby to be out yet. Not at all. Not in any sense of the phrase. Our house is totally not ready, we haven't even looked at baby furniture yet. I'm not mentally prepared for labor or baby. And I really, really think baby is so much safer (and easier and cheaper) when s/he is right now! Not at all ready for baby to come!
Had a doc's appt yesterday - quickest appt ever. Doc said my GTT was "perfect, beautiful great" but didn't tell me the number. She said not to go crazy and have ice cream every day or anything, though. I'm up another 3 pounds and start to go every 2 weeks now.
That puts my 9 pounds up from my pre-PG weight and 18 or so pounds since my lowwest weight during PG. I'm 29 weeks 5 days today, so 10 more weeks or so and 10 more pounds or so? That doesn't sound so bad!
Feeling lots of movement, but I am pretty convinced baby is (at least sometimes) head up. I keep feeling (from the outside) a hard orb that I assume is the head under my right ribs.

alliesmomma03: Sorry to hear that your grandfather is not doing well. I hope that you and your family will find strength and comfort in each other as you go through this traumatic time. (HUGS)

28w appt. went well. Baby girl is very active and still measuring right on. Doc said he won't be concerned with her positioning until 36w. I passed the
1hr-GTT. BP was great and I will be seeing Doc in 2w.
Next appt. July 13

I did find out that my shower will be on August 5th. And the theme will be moon and stars, which goes with the new crib bedding I bought. :D DH and I will be taking our childbirth preparation class next week. He has finally started clearing stuff out of the room that will become the nursery. Yay!

I meant to post this yesterday but this was my 3D/4D appointment.
[b]Ultrasound:
We got there a little late (due to me having to eat :o) so we had to wait a little while. Soo, we go back and are so excited to see little Bean. She's beautiful. We couldn't get too many good shots because she's head down (head beside my left hip bone) and smooshed between the placenta on one side and uterus wall on the other. We were getting in between shots of her. She also was sucking her 2 fingers and had her hands at her face the entire time.
She's measuring 3 lbs. 11oz. and is 17 inches long. She's in the 59th percentile. Her femur is measuring about a week and a half ahead and based on all the measurements, my new EDD is Sept. 1, 2006 but I'm not changing it because I know it's right. She's just a little ahead of schedule, I guess.
She was moving all around and I was really uncomfortable laying there. We saw her heartbeat (141 bpm) and everything looked wonderful. Mom and MIL were so impressed with the technology. I brought my digi to take a video to show my dad and they wouldn't let me video it! :(
Here are a couple of pictures (she printed off 30+ for us and gave us an 8 x 10 of our favorite). Mom and MIL took some home to show off. Again, we didn't get too many good still shots because she was moving and smooshed but I think you can see her.

Aletheia ~ That changing table thing looks good! We also have a very small nursery, but we always just changed Claire right in the crib, with a change pad under her. Once she got bigger, and we lowered the mattress, we just changed her on our bed, or on the floor. We'll do the same for this baby. But, that does look interesting!

Ditto what Camdynlyn just said...I had my 4D ultrasound today and the baby didn't want to cooperate...she was also head down, facing my left hip bone and partially hiding behind the placenta. But we did get to see some nice views. She kept yawning, moving her mouth and opening and closing her eyes. It was so cute!! And she kept putting her hands in front of her face. My DH and mom were getting on my nerves because they were complaining the whole time...well, not really complaining, but DH could barely make out anything and kept saying "all I see is the head", my mom kept laughing and making little comments because she was ready to go. Seemed like I was the only one really excited about the ultrasound. Anyway...again I'm probably just being overly sensitive. I'll scan the 4D pictures when I get to work on Wednesday. Since we didn't get a great view they are letting me come back in on July 14 to try again...free of charge.
Luvvy and Dawny - Your pregnant bellies are SO CUTE!
Yeah for BRU registries working! :D Went a little nuts adding things to ours today!
Baby woke me up way.too.early this morning with what I think was hiccups - too rhythmic to be punches or kicks, low on my left side. And I've been getting kicked just under my right rib cage all day, so I think it's safe to picture baby as head down, at this point. Right?
Had a little tiff with DH this afternoon. He's always, and I mean constantly, "joking" about my weight gain and my body with this PG. And let's face it, at a whopping 9-pound gain, there's not much reason for him to be telling me I'm ballooning up or anything. Everyday, he makes several comments usually something along the lines of "You can't even tell you're PG from behind" and "10 more pounds, that's all you get." I was *this* close to tears today when he pulled this crap on me. I get it, it's wierd for him to see the belly bump, since this is our first. And I get that his normal way of dealing with EVEYTHING is by making a joke or "busting my balls." But really, I've had enough. He's done a number on my self-esteem and body image, whether he meant to or not. I don't think he gets why I was pissed, and probably just thinks I'm being hormonal, but when you hear the same thing over and over, everyday, you start to internalize it, whether you know it's a joke or not. Hopefully we'll have a calm, rational discussion about this, but for now it's over.

{b} Sorry that DH hurt your feelings. I think that guys just don't get it sometimes, and also don't know what the right thing to be saying is.
Really really weird pregnancy stuff:
Anyone else experiencing anything really strange. For example, loving strange smells (gasoline, hardware stores, etc.)????? I know it's weird, but this happened with preg #1 with me in the last trimester as well. I remember driving to work, and a bus was in front of us, and I thought the smell of the diesel from the exhaust was great!!!
Don't worry, I'm not going around intentionally sniffing gas or anything. But it's very strange how these smells, which would normally irk me, and very appealling to me now!
I'm wondering if the hormone levels have changed again, because in the past week, by rosacea has all but gone away!! It will be back in full force once the breastfeeding hormones kick in, but for now I'm enjoying my not so red face!
Oh, and I've started leaking colestrum. I didn't tell Dh, cause I know he will avoid the chest area like the plague, and since I hope to BF for over a year, I'm taking what I can get now!! :o

I haven't really been leaking colostrum, but it is definitely there if I try to express (I was just curious, since I only stopped BFing DD a few months ago!) :)
It has been nice having my "girls" back for a bit, but hopefully I'll be able to BF this baby too for a year. (Can't remember if you are a RO, but after about 6 months when my supply regulated, the girls were "back in action" with DH.) ;)

Koala_Gurl Yup, I'm a RO as well. With #1, DH pretty much avoided the boobs while I was nursing. It's funny, cause he is such a BFing advocate, and extremely supportive of anything I wanted to do (NIP, etc), but he personally just was not having any of that!
What a glorious morning!!! Dh got up with Claire, and I slept until 10. They were leaving when I was getting up, so I had a nice breakfast in peace, and one I'm online. DH is off today (Canada Day holiday), and they are gone to MIL's to check on the cats, as the IL's are gone away.
It's really starting to hit home for me that this baby will be here soon. I delivered Claire at 37 weeks. Here I am now at 31 weeks. My Dr. has said that they won't try to stop labour after 34-35 weeks. l doubt I'll go that early anyway, but I'm hoping for around 38 weeks!!

{b} Ugh! Hopefully he'll learn that saying things like that is NOT what to do to a pg lady...
Dawny I'm loving certain smells, but not necessarily weird ones. I went into Starbucks last week and couldn't get enough of the smell of coffee brewing. Mmm.. Then, of course, DH caught me in the laundry room sniffing towels just out of the dryer. I love fabric softener!
Of course, I keep sniffing out bad smells, too, I was convinced our laundry room smelled like a skunk for a while last night. Dh thought I was nuts.
We mostly emptied the room for the nursery this weekend. Having that room empty really made both of of excited, it's starting to get so close!!

Im SOOO TIRED today! Thats what I get for going to a concert at Red Rocks last night! There are SO MANY STAIRS in that place! My calves were killing me this morning, and now Im just pooped out. I did have a good time and enjoyed the first two bands alot, but the third was just too much and we left at thier setbrake. Which appauled this couple behind us... "Your leaving NOW?! why?!?!?" uhhh Im pregnant, its past my bedtime and I have to be up at 6am for work..... (I didnt have the heart to tell them I was bored and ready to leave anyway...)

I am a SAHM but my DH is at work so it is like a typical "work day" for me too.
I am feeling a familiar change in baby's movement. He/she is getting much bigger & I feel it rolling more than kicking now. I am pretty sure we are having a big baby again because I also had an elbow or knee pointing out on Saturday...didn't get that until much later with the others. I have my next appointment on Thursday.
B- sorry about the comments your DH made. Men don't get it. I find complete strangers say the rudest things too, even women with children who should know better.

LOL! When I was pregnant with DD, my dad & I went to a concert. I was in my first trimester, and had to leave early before I fell asleep (hey, I made it to 10pm that night, which was pretty much a record.) But, I ended up having to leave work early the next day since I was so tired. :)
Thanks for the support, ladies.
RoseGardenC - after a Yankees game last week, I had cankles. Our seats were all the way up, and it's all ramps. Lots of walking, and basically just one giant hill (It's the equivalent of 4 or 5 stories, I think, all ramps). It was fun, but I paid the price afterwards! My feet still aren't right!
Which leads me to my QOTD:
Are your feet changing? Swollen? Spreading? Painful? Growing?
Mine hurt all day now. For the past 3 days or so, they hurt from the second I get out of bed.

30 weeks Everything going good so far but man I don't remember hurting like this with DD. We got our baby bedding this weekend and I love it. This is what we got. We went to several different stores but we couldn't afford two of them. We could have afforded them but we couldn't have afforded to pay bills this month. Here is the bedding we got. http://webimgsrv.burlingtoncoatfactory.com/erez3/erez?src=webimages/images-misc/k/k_fg_mirabella_m_1.tif&width=300&height=300&quality=90&sharpen=25

Swelling: I'm currently not swelling in my feet. I don't want to jinx it but my fingers are a SLIGHT bit. I've upped my water intake dramatically now that I'm craving ice! Yup, Hubby asked if I was okay because of the odd amounts of it I eat!

smells this is only the second time it has happened, but I cleaned the shower with lime-away today- and I swore it smelled like urine! The first time I thought it was just me- but I think it is limeaway!
b I think that DHs are getting a little stressed over the upcoming changes and esp when we are so noticeably pg now. We had another blow out fight friday. I am sure my Dh is stressed- but he keeps it in then I hear everything I have ever done for the past 9 yrs and it is always like a smack in the face since I thought things were going reasonably well. He has been better the last few days- but if I get this sort of jaw dropping crud every few months I don't know what I will do. Basically- he thinks I have a lot of changing to do - n ot him at all. He actually told me that I am mean and self absorbed and no one likes me. How do you respond to that one?! Also- we have been going to church in hopes that it softens my heart? WTF. I am so glad that he think sI need so much help and that he takes me there ( I am guessing since he is perfect already that he isn't paying any attention himself)
So that is what is going on here. But I have been getting lots of " I love yous, " etc. I naturally am not too receptive right now.
Parade early in the morning- my dad is picking me and DS up at 7:30am. DS usually sleeps until 8- hope next baby is like that too!

QOTD Re: feet I don't know if mine are swelling a whole lot, but they are so sore. Especially when I first get up in the morning, I can barely walk. I've had to resort to wearing my sneakers with my orthopedic inserts around the house, just to bear the pain!
alliesmomma beautiful bedding!!
It was so nice having DH home for three days. He has another long weekend coming up next Monday.
My last Ob appt. was June 8th, and my next one is not until July 24th. That's such a long time - close to 7 weeks I think! The reason is my OB is gone to India to visit her family. She was going to refer me to another OB for one appt. while she is gone, but I was not really thinking it was necessary. So, she gave me an outpatient form, asking them (at the hospital) to take my BP, weight, urine and fetal heartrate. Also, she asked them to do a non-stress test if I'm still having contrax. She said to go in 4 weeks from my last appt. So, I suppose I'll go at the end of this week.
Have a nice holiday - to those of you that are off!

Morning everyone.
alliesmomma Your bedding is beautiful!
2Jacks I'm sorry your DH is going thru the hold it til he blows syndrome. I think it's common, but it still sucks. I know its hard, but try not to take it personally. He's probably just letting the stress get the better of him. Have you talked to him about it when he's not mad? Maybe he doesn't realize he's doing it? Hang in there!
swelling My feet haven't swelled (yet?) but they do get really hot! Sandals are becoming my bestest friends! My fingers are starting to swell a bit. I had to stop wearing my engagement ring. Luckily my wedding band is still okay.
Not much here. Baby shower (thrown my MIL) this weekend. I feel evil, but I really am dreading it... I feel like they only want to parade me around for people to poke at. I hate being the center of attention...
Have a great day!

2j ~ I'm sorry your DH is being this way. It really is a lot to adjust to, having another baby. I hope it blows over soon.
alliesmomma ~ that bedding is so pretty.
b ~ sorry about the comments your DH has made. Men just don't get it. They'll never be pg so I don't think they comprehend what we're going through. My DH has NO compassion whatsoever. He's a police officer and being on the job has made him change a great deal. Losing his compassion is one way. I guess it's a defense mechanism on his part, but jeez, I'm your wife dude!!! My DH has said some pretty hurtful things to me as well. He just doesn't realize that they are hurtful.
THings are going well here. I;m starting to stress about finances in a huge way. THings are tight as it is... with another mouth to feed how will we do it? My boss asked me to work a 3rd day when I get back from maternity leave so that will bring in a lot more money. I know that will ease the strain a bit but I"m still keeping myself up at night. It's a horrible feeling.
My DS turned 3 last Tuesday. He is now almost completely potty trained. It's amazing when I see the boy he is and the baby he left behind. My eyes well up with tears when I look at him. I am so proud of him. I can honestly say I am in love with him. Aidan keeps asking me if Conor is ready to come out yet. He's so sweet. He's so excited to meet his baby brother. Truth be told... I can't either:D

QOTD My feet are def. swelling and or get sore if I am standing or walking much. I really only wear flops and my tenneys now, and they are SO DRY! Thanks for all the understanding with the DH thing. That is one thing you just can't exactly talk to your day to day friends about because they jump right on th e conseling and leave him thing. COME ON!
feet With DS I had HUGE feet. MY feet actually cracked aroud my ankles it was awful. I am about 40 lbs less ( at delivery) than I was though- with only 9 weeks to go- I think that helps a lot!
this time not too bad- I am managing to stay in most of my shoes. Knock wood!
labor plan for RO's I have to call my SIL back because I began to discuss it- but I am going to ask her and my parents to be poss- sitters for the event. It is hard to decide since not sure who I want or not want at the delivery ( parents are hard to oust) and who I want to disturb in mid night should I have to. Plus everyone works.
bummed today Having dinner with my best friend since 7th grade. She is moving to AZ on tuesday and this is it for awhile. I am feeling so emotional- I hope I can keep it together and not blubber the whole time. I could just cry now!
Plus I am her sons Godmother and she was there when DS was born- we have shared so much! boo-hoo!
Thanks for reminding me of another thing to add to my Target list today - Pumice stone! My skin is always dry but usually not so bad in the summer, but my feet are really, really gross now - like winter dry!
So, so odd to think this baby is only 10 weeks away!!! :D

Pumice stone I buy these really great ones. I will try to find it online so you can see it- but I get them at Sally Beauty Supply. Cheap and so effective! I had very very dry skin post-partum. Almost like someone else's skin- I felt like I didn't even know myself! going to check out gymboree to see if things are more on sale and buy ahead a season or two.

Question Virtual Shower
From reading some of the other mommy-to-be threads I have notised many thread arrange a virtual babyshower for their mommies. Names of those wanting to participate are put into a draw and names are selected at random. You would then buy a shower gift at a set amount (e.g. $10) for that person and mail it. Once you receive your gift you would post to let the giver know. Some do this in the same way as a 'secret santa' exchange, others let you know who the giver is. Would anyone be interested in doing something like this?
Question: Due date buddies
Any suggestions on how to arrange due date buddies?
Dotsie

Camdynlyn I have been craving ice lately, too. I actually went to a local gas station at lunch and got a huge cup full of the crunchy ice (the little chips) to munch on all afternoon. It was great and only cost $0.74!
alliesmomma Cute bedding. We picked ours out this weekend as well. It was on the clearance rack with a bunch of extras, so I bought it. I think I was just tired of looking. :) Here's a picture:

QOTD - Feet Swelling Not too bad yet but I have some other issues that are indicating that I should eat more fiber!
I spent the weekend in my home town with my parents. I needed some time away since things have just been crazy with everything going on. Who knew that sitting around doing Sudoku puzzles and talking with my parents could be so mood-altering. I came back feeling 100 times better about everything. Now if I can only get our old house to sell, I will really be a happy camper.

Hope everyone Had a great 4th of July. We didn’t do much but I finally got the baby book I wanted. Keith has been putting it off every time I mention it because the one I wanted was from hallmark and cost about $40 but everyone in my family has had a hallmark baby book and I wanted to continue the tradition. Well on Tuesday Keith gave in and we bought the book that I wanted. We also bought the letters for the nursery wall and went to bargin books and got about $100 worth of books for 30.15 they were having a 4th of July 50% - 75% off sale. Later on in the evening we went to see the musical fountain and the fire works it was fun to watch but walking the 2 miles from our parking place to the waterfront and back was hard on my feet.
I had a Dr appt on Monday and everything looks good with the baby but my blood pressure is coming back up again so I might be taken off work soon which is ok with me I am so fed up with all the drama at work and I just don’t need the stress right now. But on the bright side I passed my GTT with a # of 127 (it has to be below 140) and I’m not anemic, baby’s heart rate is good at 147 and I’m measuring right on track at 30 weeks
I can’t believe that I’m only a little over 2 months from my due date. I guess reality set in when Keith mentioned that my shower is only 1 ½ weeks away. I'll try to post a belly shot later
My next Dr appt is July 18th
QOTD - I agree with dionysia my feet are fine it’s my hips that are causing all the pain
Virtual Shower - Sounds like a great idea I’m in
Due Date Buddies - What is this?

spencer's - you look great.
twink- cute bedding.
Dorothy- I just assumed we would call each other when these kiddos arrive. Only thing is we are due so close together. You can't go on the 5th, okay;) I hear you on our oldest getting all grown up too. Not wearing diapers changes their whole apperance, not to mention they are 3 now.
No feet swelling yet. Mine were so bad with my first that I had to buy shoes 2 sizes up, & my feet have stayed a 1/2 size bigger since.
I have an Ob appointment this morning. Not expecting anything major but I am so relieved my Mom can watch them...it was no fun dragging them to the last appointment.

Man I feel like if I have not posted here forever! I read pretty much on a daily basis but I am so swamped at work that unless I come in early I can't even check CC.
I can't believe I am almost 8 weeks away from meeting this baby, I feel like if I am so NOT ready. We were very proactive and bought the nursery stuff way ahead of time, but we have not started painting or anything yet. I think that is in the 'to do list' for this weekend, we are probably not going to move in any furniture until after my shower, that way MIL and SIL have a place to sleep (right now we have two guest rooms).
Am I the only one who feels like a complete cow? It is so hard to move around, I feel tired all the time and my belly feels like if is going to explode any day now. I am sure it didn't help the fact that we ate like pigs all weekend long, but oh well. I even felt uncomfortable swimming this morning… beauty of pregnancy  .
QOTD- My feet are fine, believe it or not they get kind of swollen if I wear flats and sit for long periods of time, if I wear heels they feel so much better, definitely no pain either way. I feel as though I am hurting everywhere else, specially the lower part of my belly, the dr told me those were stretch ligaments… I thought we were over all that!
Virtual Shower – Count me in
Due Date Buddies – I am not sure if anyone has already contact (other than CC contact) with other girls from the thread, but I think the best thing would be to pair up with people whose due dates are far apart (i.e. I am due at the beginning of September, therefore I should be paired with someone who is due mid-end of September), other than I am not sure how we could organize the whole thing.

Virtual shower - Sounds like fun...count me in!!
C-section scheduled - My doctor's office just called and told me that my C-section has been scheduled for 7:00AM on August 24th!!
This is getting real!!! Only 7 weeks left!
hi girlies!
Nothing much to update on over here. I am starting to notice a little swelling when outside in the hot weather for a longer time but it isn't bad at all.
I finally got my GTT results back and I PASSED! I was just about to dive intoa bag of Swedish Berries and thought I should call the OB first to see if my results came in. So I ate a few guilt free.
We finally registered at BRU this weekend, I only have a few things I want to change and then that is all done. I was telling MIL the other day as no one in the family has made any mention of a shower. I thought they had mentioned it to DH but he says he doesn't know of anyone who is planning anything. I cannot help but be a little dissapointed. I know I shouldn't be as it isn't a given but with this being the first baby in the family for 10 years you sort of expect 'something'.
virtual shower I think it sounds like a neat idea. Of course I wouldn't want to make anyone who isn't interested but if there is a group of us it could turn out really neat.

QOTD YES! My feet & hands are both swollen. I have noticed its worse if its extremely hot out.
Virtual Shower I think this sounds like a good idea. Count me in if we end up doing one.
Due Date Buddies I agree w/ babywish in that we should probably pair up those due in the begining of the month w/ people due towards the end of the month.
My next appointment is July 12th.
I am not sure when I start going every 2 weeks but I am thinking after this appointment they'll see me every 2 weeks until my 36 week appointment, then they'll switch me over to every week.
Feeling like a cow?! ABSOLUTELY! But then again, I think I am a cow since I have probably gained the most weight out of all of you ladies :o
Can't wait for our baby shower (July 29th)! We are doing a co-ed one so we are both super excited to see everyone :)
Take care ladies.

If I'm a cow, which I tend to think is accurate, I am a damn clumsy one. I keep bumping into doorways, and as we're remodeling out kitchen (still!) and there are miscellaneous items in the middles of rooms (oh, dishwashers, sinks, ladders, brooms, the cat...) it's a wonder I haven't fallen flat on my head by now. Or damaged any of the kitchen items.
I'm also really noticing that looseness in joints that I've heard talked about. If I reach for something too suddenly or roll over wrong, I really feel pulls in weird places.
And I'm starting to get uncomfortable. Here we go girls... the home stretch!
I'm totally in for the virtual shower! Sounds fun! And I think having due-date buddies is a good idea.
Can you believe that very soon we won't be posting belly pictures, but pictures of new little humans? OH MY GOODNESS!!! For now, though, here is my 32 week belly, which could be put into the mommy ID if there is still time...

Sorry I haven't posted. I've been on vacation for the last 5 weeks. I had an OB appointment today. They considered it my 32 week appointment. I had gained 1 pound but am down 15 pounds overall. I got the "you need to gain weight" speech. Considering I lost 19 with my first DD and 25 with my second DD I'm not worried. I just don't seem to gain weight. HB was at 135 and I think I was measuring 32 weeks, they didn't say and it was hard to see what the tape said. I go back on July 20. My doc said we would start talking about how big this baby was then and possible induction. I really don't want to be induced but considering DD #2 was 8lb 2 oz at 3 weeks early they are worried about his size also. I swear Pitocin was invented by the devil and really don't want it. I also talked to them about my acid reflux. It has been horrible. I have to sleep with 3 pillows and wake up throwing up during the night from it (on the rare night I can sleep). They said I can take anything over the counter and an take the maxium suggested dosage. I've already been taking Zantac Maxium Strength but it doesn't seem to help. Any other suggestions?
I am behind in my email, CC and LJ and am trying to get caught up and be a better journal buddy. Hope eveyone is doing well.

Sorry to be so silent, but we had to evacuate last week due to the flooding. Luckily, our house stayed dry, but the entrance to our neighborhood was about 3-4 feet under water. We had to stay with my in-laws for 3 days, and
that was a little bit stressful.
Last Tuesday night the fire department came by to inform us that we had to evacuate by 2pm Wednesday. At 10am Wednesday, the fire department came around again to let us know that the river was rising faster than anticipated, and we had to leave now or risk being stuck.
We packed everything up in less than an hour and headed out of the neighborhood through the super-secret, usually locked, backdoor/evacuation route. I didn't even know it was there. We couldn't get out to the main road through the normal entrance because it was already flooded.
In happier news, I had my midwife appointment last Thursday. I took the GTT, and I don't anticipate a problem there. I haven't gained any weight since my last appointment, but the baby is measuring exactly where she's supposed to. My BP was 120/80, which is the teeniest bit high for my non-preggo self, but considering that I was 28 weeks pregnant, we evacuated due to swiftly rising floodwaters the day before, and I had a polite (but strained) go round with FIL that morning, I think my BP was stellar.
Since I haven't heard anything about the test, I'm to assume that I passed with no problems. That's good, because if they took away my ice cream, I'd definitely cry. It's really good and cutting back the reflux.
Childbirth classes start on July 11. Puppy training classes start in July 12. I find it amusing that the training class lasts 2 weeks longer than childbirth, and that we'll be doing them at the same time. I just have an odd sense of humor, I guess.
My next appointment is 7/13.

Labor buddies - I am game...I am an early September due date, but a "boring" one (as I will be scheduled.) :)
virtual shower - sure, if there are enough participating, count me in.
I can't believe this, but if all goes as scheduled, I will be having the baby 9 weeks from today. Yikes!! Am I ready for 2? Not sure...not sure if DD is either. Oh well, not much to do about it now. ;)

Erika- Welcome! If you are expecting to have your baby mid-Sept you should be hanging out with us:)
aletheia- you look great!
2jacks- I can't see your pic.
Brenda- Sorry you had to evacuate. That is hilarious that your puppy classes last longer than childbirth prep.
Dorothy- I know, I am walking my butt off (or trying to keep it from coming back).
I will probably skip the virtual shower but will be excited to hear about the exchange from you guys.
I had my OB appointment yesterday & all went well. I lost a pound (stupid GD diet) & my OB said my sugars are almost too low. She gave me permission to lighten up on the diet or exercise less. I chose the first & treated myself to french fries on the way home:) Got my pre-admission papers. My belly is measuring 2 weeks behind but doc thinks it is just the way he/she is lying in there since the u/s has showed big baby.
You can laugh at the "measuring small" as I share my belly shot. 31 w 3 d

Virtual Shower - I'm in for it. Sounds like fun!!
Due Date Buddies - Seems like a good idea. I'm smack in the middle of the month, so I don't know how that works!
Feet - Swollen like crazy. I have about 2 pairs of shoes that fit. (And LOTS of flip flops.) They really do hurt sometimes, too.
Cow - Moooooo. I have my good days and bad days, it seems. I will go from being spry and able to go on long walks with DH, to absolutely miserable and getting up off the couch is torture. My back has really started bothering me, since so much of my weight gain has been completely up front. I think I may look into a maternity support belt of some kind. Can't believe I've still got 10 more weeks of growing to do!
Brenda - That's pretty scary, to be evacuated! Glad you're ok!
I checked out the front page, and my due date should actually be September 15th, not the 12th, and I have another family-related shower on July 22nd.
My doctor said no news was good news with my GTT, and since its been well over a week, I guess I'm ok! I'm happy to hear that, since like brenda, ice cream is my current favorite thing to keep the heart burn away at night.
I got bored (amazingly enough) last night and played around, so I made one of these:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y48/suiej/13w_29w.jpg
DH thought it was cool, and now he's really excited about taking the weekly belly shot!
We're doing the 3d/4d ultrasound this weekend, so hopefully I'll have some cute pictures to share on Monday.
Have a great weekend, mommies!

As I am anticipating my afternoon to be fairly slow at work I will do up a list of everyone interested in the virtual shower, so we can get a better idea of how many of us there are.

2 Jacks- I can't see your picture either
Brenda- That sucks! Talk about timing, but the good news is that your house is in good shape. I think is hilarious that puppy training class is longer than childbirth class, but if your puppy is anything like mine it will be much worth it!. I would do it all over again without any problems, it was a hassle to have every Saturday morning busy but it really paid off, he could still be a little bit better (the whole chewing thing is an issue) but other than that he is great!
Erika- welcome! I remember you from the TCCC thread, very glad to see you around.
aletheia- You do look great! You've got a cute belly.
Mommy2AlliWill- great belly shot
Suiej- great collage, I gave in and try to send it to MSH when I have updated belly shots, I do not know what is wrong with me but I am definitely not technologically talented
Do you think I am over reacting?—Last Friday we had our one year walkthrough in our house. Our builder did a great job at spotting things that needed to be 'fixed' due to the settlement of the house. Among the things that he found there was a hornet's nest in the tree right in front of my house (behind the mailbox). I was not there for the walkthrough but DH was. DH opened a ticket with the neighborhood and we that same day we left to Baltimore. DH didn't want to say anything to me because he knew I was going to freak out. On Sunday I heard him talking on the phone with the builder, he was telling them they needed to make sure it was gone before we got back. I asked him what was going on and he told me, I assumed they removed it and Thursday for some reason I decided to look at it, girls that thing was bigger than my head, I can't believe we have not seen it before, every time I think about it I get goose bumps, the thought of how many bees are in there disgusts me. So, yesterday I called them, yelled at them and told them they needed to take it down, apparently the guy told DH that I was a little bit 'freaked out' and DH told him 'wouldn't you be if you were 7 months pregnant and there was a hornet's nest in front of your house the size of a soccer ball??'. Am I over reacting? I am scare to death to walk by it (we have to walk by it every time when we walk the puppy), I just keep thinking on all those bees coming after me and hurting me or the baby :(.
On a happier note, I finally got my first diaper bag and my sisters are buying my stroller tomorrow (I can't wait to have it home)… ladies this is getting closer and closer, don’t tell anyone but I am starting to freak out; what about if I don’t know what to do with the baby? What about if I am a bad mother? ….. the list of questions goes on and on.
Hope everybody has a great weekend!
babywish you are not overreacting at all. I would be one mean b***h if they didn't do something ASAP if I were in your shoes. Builders are slow at doing most things (or at least this is my experience), so I would stay on them. This is not just something that needs fixed but it is a real hazzard for everyone in the neighbourhood. If someone is allergic and something happens they may hold you reliable and i don't even want to think of what could happen if someone is 'attacked'.

Boy, this thread is moving! Guess we're all getting excited (or scared like me!)
Brenda How stressful! So glad your house stayed dry.
Ericka stop by anytime!
belly shots you guys look awesome!
suiej man, can you believe we are 30 weeks today??? How the heck did that happen! Hope your little one cooperates with the u/s.
babywish are they hornets or bees? Hornets are the black and yellow guys with a terrbile disposition. If that's what they are, you play that pregnancy card, girl! You nag, bitch, cry, throw whatever tantrums necessary to get the builder to remove it (and if your DH likes to get macho, like mine does, DON'T let him remove it either). If they are bees, they shouldn't bother you unless you provoke them. Regardless, I don't think your over reacting.
And as far as starting to freak out. Boy, you are not alone! Only difference is that I started freaking out January 5th (the date of my bfp!) You will be fine and will be an awesome mom!
Have a great weekend ladies.

Sorry to have been MIA for so long! My 9 year old SIL (long story) came to visit us for 7 extremely long days and I didn't have much CC time.
Due date buddies ~ Sure! I am one of the earliest ones (Aug. 28th) so I can be paired with someone toward the end of the month.
Swelling ~ Yep. Comes and goes. I keep having those days when I gain 6-9 pounds in one day. Then I have to drink even more water than I already do to flush out my system. Looks like I am the queen of water retention.
Everyone's belly shots look so good. I need to take some new ones. I think I will wait until Monday when I am exactly 33 weeks. Oh, and I started getting some small stretch marks, but at least they are on my hips. In fact, they are pretty much exactly where my other ones are from when I grew hips as a teenager. My other ones are really faint, so hopefully the same will happen with these. And ditto to those who feel huge. Everytime I roll over in bed, stand up from sitting on the sofa, bend over, etc. it takes so much effort. I can't imagine how I am going to make it 7 more weeks - and get even bigger!

Man am I bored today! Hopefully this means that I will be able to leave early, I would not mind to have an early Friday for a change, lately seems like my work days finish not earlier than 6:30pm.
Hubby just called and they removed the hornet's nest this morning… I guess being a b$#% pays off sometimes :)
MSH- Thank you for making me feel better. The funny thing is that our builder is pretty good at getting things taken care of, but they definitely dropped the ball on this one, DH told me that apparently the guy who took it down made a comment to how big that things was and how it was dangerous.
Batgirl- sorry I said bees, nope they were definitely hornets and to your point I made sure DH didn't want to play the macho man and take it down himself, he was saying that if it was not down by tomorrow he was going to do it himself …. Men!
UTChick- welcome back and sorry about the stretch marks… I am keeping my fingers crossed I don’t get any, but I have the feeling that if I am meant to have them I will (regardless the amount of cream that I put)

Yay for the hornets being gone. Boo for stretch marks. I am also destined to have strecth marks, so far they aren't appearing, but I already have them from puberty on my hips and boobs. I'm hoping that maybe they'll stay congregated there?
Is anyone else seeing little bitty veins on their bellies? They're like spider veins, but not that dark (yet).

07-08-2006, 10:58 AM
Babywish - Hey its Tammie! I just figured out who you are ... why didn't you email me and tell me you are pregnant? This is awesome.
I read about your hornet situation. I know it took them a long time to get rid of it, but I really don't even think that is Wieland's responisbility, is it? I'm not saying that to be rude, but I thought when they did our walk-thru that it was really just things inside the house or structural but not really something like removing a hornet's nest or landscaping. I wonder b/c we could have had them fix a few more things if their responsibility is really supposed to be expanded passed what I mentioned above. We have had some really good experiences with the people that respond to our work tickets - but we have had an awful time with our A/C unit. It's broken 8 times since we moved in. Yeah, nice right? I had to use the pregnancy card to get it fixed on memorial day when it was like 100 degrees out and they didn't think our broken A/C for the 8th time was an emergency. Of course, that was talking directly to the A/C company (we had to get the emergency Weiland guy involved). Are you enjoying your townhouse? Haven't talked to you since before you moved in - I think.
UTChick - I have swelling also, and have since maybe 3 - 4 mos. It's not overly bad, but my feet are always swollen at the end of the day and I've had to buy new shoes a size up. Crazy! Yesterday I couldn't put my wedding ring on, today it fits fine. Anyway - my dr. mentioned that if you are swollen and drinking all the water you are supposed to plus more, maybe we shouldn't drink as much since we are swollen. Seems reasonable. He seems to think the logic of drink more if you are swollen to flush you out isn't always true. And since I've been experimenting with drinking less water when I'm swollen, I've been swollen less! Just thought I'd share that with you.
Do any of you use the snoogle? I've read a lot about it on here. Just ordered one. I hate to order so late in my pregnancy but I'm having the most awful time sleeping. Between getting up to pee every 2 hrs and tossing and turning, I'm just not sleeping well. Wonder if it will be my miracle sleeping tool like others on the boards say.
Camdynlyn
07-08-2006, 11:14 AM
tgoody: I've been using my snoogle since early pregnancy and it does help me sleep but I'm to the point now where I'm just plain uncomfortable and no type of pillow is going to cure it completely. It does help support my belly when I lay facing it and supports my back when I turn around.

tgoody~ Interesting... I'll have to talk to the dr. on Monday about that. The only thing that I am concerned with is that when I retain water and have those crazy one-day weight gains, my urine is darker all day long (sorry if TMI). Usually it is clear from all the water I drink so it leads me to believe that I need more water. Huh. I'll have to ask about that.

MSH ~ I sent you my info for the shower. Again, thanks for all that you do for our thread.
cjones - your doc told you you ave to gain weight AND the baby is big and might have to be induced? Uhhh, doc? How does that add up? [shakes head] Geesh!
So, my MIL and SIL are in Italy for three weeks. Kind of feeling sorry for myself because they are the monst likely to plan a shower, and I haven't heard anything from anyone yet. :( No mention at work, or my family (We're really far from them, though) or DH's side...
Feeling pretty unprepared to have this baby. It still seems very far away, though I'm 31 weeks tomorrow. We won't take childbirth classes till mid August. We have no furniture for baby's room yet, haven't even started looking (Though I know what I want, basically). We don't have anything except a cute sweater, bonnet and booties set my Mom knit for me. And it's too big for a newborn. Was standing in the shower today, thinking about the millions of things I don't know about babies. Almost gave myself a panic attack!
DH and a coworker both told me this week "You don't even *look* PG from behind!" WTH is that supposed to mean?
DDbuddies - I already have plans to have a local CCer let y'all know when I pop!
Virtual shower - sounds like fun, but I'm another one who would have trouble following through.

{b} - With my 1st DD I lost 19 pounds and she was 9lb 3oz at 41 weeks. With my 2nd DD I lost 25 pounds and she was 8lb 2oz at 37 weeks. I still vomit every day and am able to eat very little. My doc would like for me to atleast gain back the weight I've lost but I don't see that happening. I didn't do it with my last two pregnancies and I don't see this one being any different.

Ladies we just got done with the nursery! talk about reality check!! . I honestly still think I am on denial, but I better come back to reality and accept than in 8 weeks or so I will be meeting the little one.
DH painted yesterday and we just put the border up, the room looks awesome, later on we are going to move the furniture, I am so excited!! It is so funny because our puppy definitely knows there is something going on but he is not sure what. He keeps sniffing around and staring at us with this face that pretty much says 'whose room's is this and why didn't I get my own room yet?" He is so cute!
Hey Tammie! How are things going! I pretty much got disconnected from the whole online journaling for a while, I don’t know if you remember but I also went back to school, once I graduated we got pg and I switch jobs... life has been hectic! As per Wieland, they have been great with us! the only issue was the hornet's nest and they took it down. And to answer your question no, it was not included on the one year guarantee walkthrough, but is considered 'landscape maintenance'. The guy in charge of quality in our neighborhood just happened to see it the day he came for the walk through. He told Sami that they had to take it down (just because is something that is dangerous for the neighborhood, anyone walking by that street could be attacked). How are you liking your new house? how is pregnancy going? Man we are so close!! I can't believe we will have our babies soon (and around the same time! what are the odds?).
{b} I agree with craft that is a compliment! I know I have definitely put some junk in the trunk but oh well, I will have time to loose it after September.
craft I am due September 5th, I think it maybe too close for us to be due date buddies, what do you think? I have the feeling that I will go late, but I want to talk to my dr. not to let me go longer than Sept 8th since my dad is coming from overseas and he is leaving on the 11th (my mom is staying one more month), I want to make sure he meets the baby before going back.
I had actually thought on doing the virtual shower (and I even posted my stats) but I honestly feel completley overwhelm and I would hate to forget to get the gift, so I think I better pass.
MSH I just realized you have me as a repeat offender in the mommy ID, this is actually my first baby, I think I had my puppy as other children :), can you please change it?

So please include her in your prayers. This poor girl is 36- first pg after 5 years TTC. I worry that this kind of dammage to her cervix may do irreversable trauma. Don't know much about it- anyone?
It was so hot today here- 90something. I was very crabby and my allergies were awful. I hate being cooped inside- but turns out I should have stayed in. I am off to bed after another glass of water. I am parched!

When I have the baby either my friend Dal or my friend LynzeyAHL will update if I'm unable to. However, I am willing to be someone else's due date buddy if anybody needs one. I just know that those two ladies are on my list of contacts for the hospital anyway and it will save DH some time! LOL

Morning ladies, just a quick note since this weekend was exhausting... Plus, think I got a cold, plus another thread that I started is requring lots of lots of time (and causing lots of emotional stress, but that's another matter...) Okay, enough whining... especially after reading 2Jacks post. I have way too much to be thankful for at the moment....
2Jacks That's terrible about your friend. She's in my thoughts.
{b} DH tells me that a lot, too. I don't look pregnant except for the growing basketball under my shirt! You definitely take that as a compliment!
Boy, I wanted to do more SOs, but my brain is foggy and I can't remember what I was going to post! Take care everyone.

Morning ladies! My appt went really well on Friday! I am SOO glad I switched offices! I actually lost 3 lbs. from last month (GEE think I was just kinda right about the weighing first thing in the morning vs. last appt of the day?!?!) and my BP was 118 over 73. I took my GTT, it wasnt bad, I had a lemon lime flavor and it was carbonated! Still MUCH sweeter than anything I usually drink, but I kept it down just fine. I will know my numbers this week, hopefully they wont call today! (fingers crossed) as they wont if theres not a problem... I can check my actual result numbers online later in the week myself. We drove to New Mexico this weekend and handed off DS #'s 1 & 2 to the grandparents to start thier vacation YAY! No teens in the house til August 4th! Now the work begins! We need to finish painting the livingroom and diningroom (the trim and celings) and then tackle the bedroom situation! Its time to move DS #2 to the bigger room and then his room will be the nursery, so more painting, cleaning the carpet (like 3 times! yucky boys!) and then I can start nesting! YAY! I need to clean all of the stuff that was given to us for the baby (because Im a freak that way) and start moving it into the babies room, and then DH wants to paint a mural on one wall of a jungle theme, and then we can start shopping for the crib and changing table! WHEW! I dont know if I have enough time or energy for all this! LOL! OOO and DH just suprised me with tickets to a Hot Tuna Accoustic show next week!
Im with Twink, Im just to sporadic in life right now to partake in the virtual shower.

Hey ladies - I've been at the beach for the last week and am just now getting back and caught up. We had a great time, but the ebach with a 2 yr old isn't quite as relaxing as it used to be! Actually, he did great at the beach, my only sadness was that we had so little actual beach time. By the time he got up, fed, we finished putzing around, got him (and me) sunblocked up and ready to go, we only had 1.5-2 hours before we had to come home for lunch. Then lunch and nap were so long that it would be 4:00 or later before he woke up and everyone else was coming home for the day to start getting ready for dinner. It was relaxing, but I miss spending the whole DAY at the beach.
Anyhoo, onto more important business.
CINDY (cjones)! - let's be due date buddies. I'm due at the end of the month (9/29) but won't be allowed to go much past 9/15 so that should space us a decent amount apart... besides, I already "know" you so I wouldn't feel as dorky calling you.

Expecting a: boy
Theme: none
Color: light blue and light green (sharing with my older DS)
Other hints: This is our second boy, so we've got most everything we really need... but that said, a new infant toy, new blanket (DS won't give his up - ours before were from the Amy Coe line at Target, it's not the same line now, but it's the same color exactly), or new summer or winter clothes (we can re-use spring and fall - so summer clothes in size 9-12mo or winter in size 3-6mo and I'm happy to take used so if you're an RO who has those as extras I'll take them happily and save you some $$)
Other news, I have my 1-hour GTT this afternoon, I'm not expecting to pass as I didn't last time either (although I did pass the three hour test then).
I'm having awful ankle and foot swelling - and I have been for over a month now. It goes away at night so the ob isn't concerned, but I only have three pairs of shoes (one slides, one crocs and tevas) that I can even fit on my feet by the end of the day. Let me tell you, I'm getting a little tired of wearing the same damn shoes to work EVERY FREAKING DAY.
Other than that, and a general feeling of cowness (add me to the group that's already getting winded going up the stairs) and I'm doing ok. I hate the fact that I've gained so much weight when I'm already heavy to begin with, but I don't know what to do differently - I really am eating pretty healthy. It's already making it hard for me to move around as much as I want. My mom, who is not the worlds most tactful or feeling person, announced "well, you don't HAVE to gain any more weight!" Well gee mom, I guess I don't HAVE to... but since I'm not exactly TRYING to and I'm gaining like crazy anyway, that's not the most helpful statement to make.
And drinking water still makes my heartburn act up. Bah. Anyway, other than all THAT, life really is going pretty well these days. I haven't really had to time to catch up with all of you yet, but I'll try to get to that in the near future. Take care everyone!

I finally gave in and bought something at Mimi Maternity. I HATE their return policy so I was avoiding them like the plague, but I need some plants that have a chance of staying up on my waist, so I plunked down $42 for a cheap pair of pants that were on sale and will probably fall apart after the first wash. I'm not bitter, really, I'm not. :)
I also got two new bras from VS which, of course, were not on sale. I shocked the crap out of the sales person (who was kind enough to fit me properly) when I told her I had gone from a 34B to a 38D and still have 2.5 months left. She thought it was great and all I could think about was how much they will sag when they go back down to their normal size after I finish bfing. She is the first person that I didn't know to want to touch my belly. She was very polite and asked if I would be comfortable with it and then proceeded to talk to my belly. It was actually really cute!
My neighbor is due today and my SIL is expecting to have her daughter today so hopefully I will have some cute newborn baby pictures to share soon!

Hey twink your post reminded me of a question...
QOTD where are you guys buying nursing bras? I was told to get fitted before the baby arrives, but have no idea where. I remember someone suggesting Walmart, but are they hard to get a good fit with? Is it something I can just buy off the rack? I know Mimi sells them, but as twink said, I hate that store! Thanks everyone!

Also, I have a pair of work pants from Mimi, they're a little baggy in a few places, but they've held up well for the past couple months through several washings. I can't stand that store, either, way too over priced!!

We had the 3d/4d ultrasound on Saturday, it was great!! We got a 30 minute DVD of the whole thing, set to music, and it's so sweet and touching to watch. We got some really good shots of her face (chubby cheeks, and I think she got my nose, not DH's.) She was holding her hands up close to her face most of the time, and she somehow got a foot up there, too. We saw some awesome kicks from these little muscular legs, DH is convinced she'll be a great soccer player!
Still trying to figure out how to grab some screenshots from the DVD, hopefully I'll figure that out tonight!
We got the nursery completely primed and painted, DH worked so hard on it all weekend, and the color came out lovely. You'd never know it used to be navy blue... I think we just need to take the tape down and we can start moving some stuff in!

My first shower was on Saturday. I was whisked off at 10 am for a pregnancy massage and then for lunch. Then I returned home to a house full of friends, my mom, my SIL, purry kittens, and a huge spread of food!
People were very generous with their gifts. Time for thank you note writing!!
I cannot believe I am 10 weeks away from my due date. And the nursery hasn't even been started yet! Dionysios & I just picked out the color last night: Behr's Sage Tint. Now to get on the horn to the painter.

This weekend DH and I took some pictures...so I can have shots of my big belly! I can't wait to see how they turned out!! The guy who took them (my coworker) is working on editing them and should have some to show me before Friday!
Hi girls!
I hope you are all having a good start of the week. I know we had a wonderful weekend. We attended a friends wedding and got all dolled up ... gotta love that.
Baby is super active these days, which I love. I talked to my mom yesterday and she is in full swing making the baby gifts for whent they come to visit.
We also went to a warehouse sale this weekend and got a lot of cute Kushies outfits for Fatzy. Tonight is our 2nd birthing class ... so we really only have to get the nursery finished
I will get the Due Date Buddies list updated tonight as well as make a list of those intested in the virtual shower.

Wow I can't believe I Just typed that!! 8 more weeks and this baby will be fully cooked!
Like I mentioned yesterday we got done with the nursery and I ordered my stroller.... believe it or not that has been a huge decision! I had fallen in love with the Pre-Prego Pilko P3 in 'Ambra' which was orange and kaki, I was 100% that was going to be my stroller. We went on Saturday to order it and we find out that they've changed the material and now is not so orange but more brownish, I was so disapointed! My sister came with me and she liked the baby blue better, so we end up going with that one. I spent the whole weekend having second thoughts, 'should I have ordered the orange?, should I stay with a more conservative color?' I went back and forth I don’t know how many times, DH did not want to have anything to do with the color of the stroller so I was in my own.
Today decided to stick with the blue, then called the store and change it to silver/black and thirty minutes later I changed my mind again and call for the orange. Well, apparently they dont make the car seat in orange so I am back to blue... truth to be told I am a lot more convinced that I was on Saturday, and every time I look at it I like it more. Here it is...

nursing bras
I really liked bravado nursing bras and had to buy them online. I have 4 now- I bought 2 then 2 more since they are more like a sports bra with a really nice snap ( double) I wear them sometimes now. My Motherhood ones are doable still- but falling apart and are underwires- they Bravado are not and I am a chesty girl. my norm is 38 DD- so my Bravado ones are hue- they use a different sizing system. And they are pricey- but worth it.
My girlfriend lost her baby last night. Her water broke- and they couldn't stop the contrax. I called the hosp today to find she had been discharged and talked to her husband at home. All I know is they held the baby and in 4 weeks she will have an exam and they will know more about poss pregnancies- but definitely need a cerclage. I hope she doesn't give up hope- it is awfully sad.
I wonder if they will have a memorial service- I am not sure how I will handle that. How hard for them.

2jacks ~ My heart aches for your friend. What a horrible thing to have to endure.
Actually, when you posted earlier, I was thinking about the fact that we are all fairly safe right now, with regards to the babies being born. At 32 weeks, the chances of survival are excellent. To me, that's a great weight off my mind - particularly on days like this when I have a million contrax.
I had my appt. today (not with OB, just with outpatients nurse) to check B/P, etc. My weight is now 120 lbs. Which means I've gained about 25 lbs so far. I'm really feeling it too! B/P was low, as usual - 100/60, and the baby's heartrate was 155.
I know it's just an old wives tale, but knowing the heartrate is that fast really does make me think our baby is a girl. In my heart, I feel it's a girl. I'd love to have a little boy, but the truth is, it really does not matter once the baby is born, I will love him/her completely.
We really need to get going on the kid's rooms. I mean, we could have this baby in as little as 5 weeks. NOTHING is done yet to Claire's new room, which means that the baby's room is not done either. Another week or so and I'm sure I'll start panicking!!
Virtual Shower ~ I'd love to participate, but truthfully, the shipping to where I live in Canada is not justifiable to have someone spend. Then, of course, you never know when they might also apply brokerage fees, etc. as well, with things coming over the border.
Due Date Buddy ~ DH is going to update for me!

2Jacks - Sorry to hear about your friend losing the baby. I know the feeling all too well. All the medical advances but just a few weeks make such a difference. My baby girl was 24 weeks, but her growth was only at 22 weeks. I hope she makes them test for everything and that they really watch her well in the next pregnancy. They just found another thing that may have contributed to my loss, incompetent cervix and diabetes. If she needs space away from you, please don't take offense, it's difficult for a woman that just loss her baby to be around pregnant women. Best wishes to her and her hubby.

nursing bras i had some bravado and motherhood bras last time. they were pretty comfy, just not very cute. i nurse for a long time, so with this one i'm getting some pretty bras. so far i like these, they're just pricey, so i'm waiting for babystyle to do a 20 or 30% off code.

babywish - I LOVE your stroller. I have checked out those strollers myself...my cousin has one and absolutely loves it.
Strollers - Ladies, I'm considering getting the Graco Metrolite stroller because I'm trying to stay on a budget. To you repeat offenders, do you think it is a good buy?? The entire travel system is only $199. What does the Baby Bargains book say about strollers?
Pediatrician - I have decided on a pediatrician. I mentioned a few months ago that I met a lady pediatrician at this baby event held at the hospital I will be delivering. I really liked her but didn't know anything about her. Well, the other day I asked my coworker if she knew anything about this doctor (this coworker has 3 small children)...she said that her kids used to go to her and she absolutely LOVED her, and that the only reason she switched to someone else is becaue a good friend of hers who is a pediatrician went into private practice...so she switched to her friend. So I have definitely decided to choose her as my baby's pediatrician!! YEAH!
Daycare - I have been thinking about this all week. I have several options, my friends mom has a daycare and I was seriously considering using her daycare when I first heard about it, but I've been wanting to visit the daycare for WEEKS and she keeps putting me off saying that things are a madhouse now because she is dealing with camp kids for the summer. Turns out this daycare has been dealing with 50 camp kids!!! The kids are gone most of the day, but they get back to they daycare at the end of the day. I don't know if I want my baby around all those older kids. Plus the lady keeps putting me off. I visited two daycares this week. One is at a church 5 minutes from my job. The daycare is $80 per week. I liked the people there, but it is a fairly large daycare, they currently have 15 babies (6 weeks to 1-year old/walking babies) and 3 employees in the baby room. And that's another thing...technically, the babies are not in a "room" by themselves. There is one big room with the newborns - non-potty trained children...this big room has partitians dividing up three sections. The facility was clean but it wasn't exactly appealing to the eye. The other daycare I visited today is 5 minutes from my house. This daycare costs $85 per week. It is a smaller daycare, currently they only have 7 babies and 4 of those are about to move to the 1-year old room. And yes...they have actual ROOMS! The rooms were so tiddy and clean. The place as a whole just LOOKED better inside plus there are fewer kids. So I'm leaning more towards the daycare that is close to my house. DH seems to be leaving this decision up to me. I wish he would give me some input.

craftgenius - Baby bargians pretty much advises against the "travel system" strollers, as the strollers usually aren't the best quality.
FWIW...I got a P3 and while I like it, it wasn't my "favorite." I prefer an all-terrain type stroller (not quite a jogger, but still a 3-wheeler with air tires.) Some recline fully, others accept an optional carry-cot for newborns.
I only used the infant seat for 4 months with DD, and I only used the "travel system" if we were doing short trips from the car. Otherwise, if we just went on normal walks around the neighborhood, I just reclined the stroller and put DD in there (sometimes w/ a head support thingy.)
I guess the deciding factor may be cost, but how do you plan to use a stroller?

Ericka I totally hear you about giving my friend space. I had another friend go through that and she was completely honest with me about her feelings of babies and mothers at the time. I was thinking of making some food- packing it in a cooler and leaving it on her porch tomorrow.
That is another reason that if there is a service- not sure if I should go.
dana Sounds like we have similar issues with our toddlers. I wanted mine out of our bed and into his own- but it just isn't happening and I am starting to just give up. Partially it is me. I love having him cuddle me- but at the same time I have to worry that each time I get out of bed to pee- he may flop right out! He is a tough napper too. I have to really work at it most days. urgh.

2jacks - I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. I will keep her and her family in my thoughts. I can't imagine having to deal with all they are dealing with
Stroller - With my last DD we bought a Graco travel system and I though I loved it. It was fine until I went to the mall. It was very hard to handle in the stores. I wanted a new stroller this time around. My MIL bought us the P3. We picked a 2005 model and was able to get a GREAT price on it!!!! We've had it for a few weeks and haven't actually used it yet but I can tell it is much better then the travel system. It is very easy to push/turn. Our only problem is the canopy will not snap on to the stroller. I lucked out and live only 5 minutes from the only service center in Texas!! I have to drop it off sometime next week so they can determine if we need a new stroller or just a new canopy. If we wouldn't live so close we would have to mail it to Indiana and wait up to 6 weeks to get it back. The parent cup holder is also very hard to put on. I worked for an hour and couldn't do it, the rest of the stroller took less then 10 minutes to assemble. When I called customer service about the canopy they said the service center would also help us with the cup holder and they had received the same complaint for several people.
Craft - You truly have to go with your heart on daycare. Go with which one feels right to you. I can't believe how cheap it is!!!! Daycare for an infant here is over $200 a week.
I finally called the hospital to see if I could set up a hospital tour. They remodeled all of the rooms and I wanted Lauryn to see the hospital hoping it would help her when the baby comes. When I was in the hopsital last time she was scared and wouldn't even come to me. They do not allow children on the hospital tour so no tour for us. The only way a child can go is if you do the sibling class, a tour is included. You have to be 3 years old to do the sibling class so Lauryn can't attend anyway. Someone also just told me that our hospital now does aromatherapy during labor. I need to question my OB about this when I go back next week. I think this baby has dropped already. The heartburn I had is much better and so is my asthma. I only feel comfy if I'm sitting indian style. It helps spread out my hips but I feel like I am sitting on the baby. DH says my tummy looks much lower. Still having a few contractions everyday and about 30 BH each day but that's been going on for a couple of months so no concern.
Next appointment is July 20, Thanks!!
2jacks I am so sorry to hear about your friend. I cannot imagine what this must be like for her and her family. They will be in my thoughts.

We had our 2nd birthing class yesterday and I am happy to say it was much better than the last. We got to watch a video of 3 different briths and I am now 100% sure I would like to attempt NCB and if at all possible avoid an epi. The thought of someone sticking a needle in my spine just freaks me out.
I also found out our hospital lets you have the baby in the room with you for 24h a day. I am very happy with this and plan to make use of it. I hope we will be able to get a private room but apparently there are only 4 so chances are pretty low.
QOTD: How long after birth do you plan to stay in the hospital? From what I can understand we would be allowed to leave as soon as 6 hours after birth but most stay 2 days. I really do not like the idea of staying in the hospital for too long and would like to come home about 24 hours after birth if all is well.

I'm not going to argue for a different color, however, because DH has taken so little interest in so many things. Its nice to have him have a preference about something!
craftgenius congrats on finding a pediatrician! I've called 3 so far, and none are accepting new patients. Don't know what I'm going to do yet. And wow, your daycare is only $85/wk! That's amazing! Here the average seems to be $300/wk. This is the main reason I've decided to come back to work half time, since I'll bring home more money than full time with daycare.
MSH were the birth videos you watched scary??? I'm worried about watching them with DH during our classes. Wow, and considering NCB? You go girl!
QOTD I haven't had my hospital tour yet (its next week) but I've heard you stay 24hrs for vaginal birth and 48 for c-section.

When do babies flip down? I just had a late ultrasound last week (at 29 weeks) and baby has his/her head up bumping into my ribcage. (I was wondering what that pain was!) The kiddo keeps kicking my cervix area and I get these sharp pains from there and it sends a shooting pain down into my vagina. Should s/he be flipped upside down already? The ultrasound tech even called the baby "breech" but said there is plenty of time for flipping. I forgot to ask when babies USUALLY do to the flipping...

booksie In my birthing class, the instructor said that they like to see babies turn head down by 32 weeks, because after that time there is less room to move. She also said that between 32 and 36 weeks, there are some at-home remedies that can help babies turn as well as some chiropracters and accupuncturists who specialize in getting babies to flip. There is also something that OBs do - I think it is called a version - where they push the baby to try to get it to turn. I'm not as familiar with that procedure, but anything is worth a try, right? An internet search will pull up some things for you to try if you are concerned and want to help things along. Good luck getting that baby to flip! :)

The videos were not scary at all. I was expecting these women to scream from the pain (I believe 2 were natural and one had an epi), however the sounds they did make were more to help them push ... to gather the strength and feel like they were pushing harder etc. It was actually quite enjoyable and nothing like I thought they would be.
I am hoping for a NCB but will change my birth plan based on advise from the medical staff. I don't want them to administer meds at the first sign of pain or a larger dose than needed. I'm expecting it to hurt like crazy but figure it is temporary and I should be able to get through it. Of course we never know what is going to happen or how the pain will feel so that may all change.

MSH I am hoping for a NCB, too. What kind of classes are you taking? We have had three Bradley classes so far and just watched videos in Sunday's class. Three were medicated and one was natural.

Glad I am not the only crazy one ;) I have only taken the birthing classes offered by my hospital. I plan to ask my OB tomorrow if there are any other classes I could take which focus more on NCB. I'm trying to keep informed on both NCB and medicated in case I will need meds (due to complications), so I can make an informed decition.

2Jacks Im so sorry to hear of your friends loss, so heartbreaking....
booksie I was just talking to the RN at my appt last friday about getting the baby to move around, my roseybud was facing posterier(sp) the other day (his back to my belly) and it was VERY uncomfortable! He was kicking alot (as usual) and all those kicks were to my organs and such! OUCH! I felt I had to pee all day long, and my lower back was KILLING ME! When I got home from work I was miserable, it was in the 90's and I was sore anyway, so I took a really cool bath... Well he turned around while I was in the tub, the RN said it was because of the cold water! She also said that one of the best ways to get a baby to turn around is to put an ice pack on your belly where the babies head is, they will turn around to get away from the cold! so after my long winded story... try an ice pack, see if you can get teh baby to turn around into fundal (sp) position that way if you are worried.
I am guessing I passed my GTT and my anemia testing, as the RN said they would call on Monday if I didnt pass, and if I didnt hear anything then it was all good! YAY!!!!

MSH ~ I had NCB with #1 and intend to again this time. Yeah, it's painful, and it didn't help that the nursing staff were literally forcing drugs/ and epi down my throat. They even brought the anesthiologist (SP??) in, and he said 'so you want an epi', I literally screamed at him - "NO! I don't want one'. He just looked at the nurses all confused, as if to say, why the hell did you call me up here?
I just basically do not do well with drugs of any kind. I'm actually a big wimp, but was totally dedicated to NCB the first time, and I think that mental preparation helped me through it. I look at labour as productive pain!!
So, I just found out yesterday that our local hospital has signed two new OBs! Great!! However, they are scheduled to start near the end of August, which may work for me if baby stays put until then. I sooooo want to have this baby here in town. I really hope they are started here by the time I'm ready to have the baby.
The baby was kicking me so hard last evening I actually sat down and cried. It hurt so bad, plus, I was having a lot of contrax. So, I'm taking it very easy today!
Dawny Thank you so much for posting that. It is really reassuring. I don't like being in pain by any means but I am terribly stubborn and have always refused to take medication unless I am about to pass out from the pain. "Labour as productive pain" I couldn't agree more and I believe this mentality will help me stay strong during the whole process. DH knows this is important to me and would probably pass out himself he they stuck a needle in me :)

My hospital won't let the DHs be in the room during the epi anyway. ;) (And my uncle who is an anesthesiologist said before they started kicking the hubbies out of the room, he doesn't know how many of them fainted. Funny!
Good for you on the NCB. I was just going to go as long as I could without the epi, but I went in the hospital at night. They woke the anest. at 3am to do the epi on the woman in the next room. Nurses kinda got to me like, "he is awake now, do you want it? You may not be able to get it when you actually do." Stupid me was awake all night and said, "OK." Oh well...would have ended up needing it anyway w/ the C/S.

2jacks~ I am so sorry to hear about your friend's loss. I will keep her and her family in my thoughts.
booksie~ One of my friends just had a baby a couple of weeks ago. Her baby was breech and I believe she finally flipped at 35 or 36 weeks and was born at 38 weeks. My friend was relieved because her doc had her penciled in for a c/s in case the baby didn't flip.
QOTD~ My hospital's policy is 48 hours for vaginal birth and 72 hours for c/s. I was told this was to monitor the mom due to all the redistribution of blood and other fluids as a result of labor and delivery. I especially embrace this length now that my friend I mentioned above was readmitted two days after being released for post-partum pre-eclampsia. Her bp was 250/130 and had to stay in the hospital for 6 days. Poor thing had a rough time with both of her pgs, so this is not common, but you never know.
Had a dr. appt yesterday. Dr. said my little guy is the most consistent baby ever with his hb. It is always 132. He showed me where in my chart for the last several appts. his hb was 132. He told me again not to worry about my weight (I am at a 38 lb total gain right now :o ). I go back in 2 weeks for my first internal. And then the one after that will be an u/s to check weight, position, etc. I can't believe how close it is getting!!

Breech babies - our little boy was considered "breech" at my 27 week u/s. They generally like them to move head down by 32 weeks but I've heard several girls on the board who's baby didn't move until much later on. I had been convinced this one hadn't flipped until this weekend. My OB said he would check to see if he was breech still at my next appointment and wasn't concerned at all yet. Your doc can do a version. This is normally done at the hospital because your water can break when they do it and they lilke to monitor how the baby handles the stress of it. I've heard this is a last ditch procedure and some docs won't do them. I also think there is only a 50/50 chance of it actually working because they wait late in the pregnancy (in case your water would break) and the baby is pretty big by then.
QOTD - Our hospital leaves it up to the doc. I've always stayed in a min. of 48 hours with both of my deliveries. With Lauryn I had the catheter and IV in until about an hour before I went home so I was restricted to the bed the whole time. I would have loved to be home in my own bed but it was also nice to not have to do anything and have people wait on me and rest.

Question - I starting this week I will be going in for weekly visits AND ultrasounds. If they do an ultrasound at all my last appointments, will the doctor still need to do an internal exam? Or is the ultrasound sufficient to check the cervix?

I had several u/s at the very end of my pregnancy and still had internals to check for dilation. I know they can check on her cervix length but I don't think they can get if your really dilating. I could be totally wrong.

MSH and Twink - I had a NCB with my first DD and it was awesome! Granted, my labor was pretty quick, but really it didn't hurt too much until the end, and by then it was time to push. It probably helped that I went through transition in the car since we lived 45 minutes from the hospital. :)
With this baby I am planning on having a homebirth, so I am hoping my labor is even shorter!
Anyway, I wanted to recommend The Birth Book by Dr. Sears. That is what I read to help me prepare for DD#1 and I am re-reading parts of it to help with DD #2. Oh yeah, and I sat on a birth ball a lot throughout my pregnancy which I think helped get baby into position and open my pelvis up a bit.
Good luck ladies!
Craftgenious - No hands on experience yet, but we registered for the Metrolight stroller (Not the travel system). It was the nicest of all the lighterweight strollers at our BRU that didn't cost as much as my first car. ;)
2jacks - sorry to hear of your friends loss. I can't even imagine.
QOTD - Shortness of breath, anyone?
Also, what's this wierd, muscular pain I have real, real low in my abdomen, like, just above the pubic hair line (Sorry to be so graphic!). It's definitely my body, not baby. And it seems to be worse when flipping over in bed and walking. I'm thinking *maybe* I've been sitting for too long of a stretch at work and at home on the computer. Could that do it? Wil have to ask Thiursday at my next appointment

I'm always amazed by the differences in the (mainly Canadian/US) pre-natal care that we all get.
For example:
- right now I'm still on monthly visits to the OB. After 35 weeks, I'll probably have to start going bi-weekly, then after 37, weekly.
- U/S - they normally only do 2 U/S here - one at 18 weeks, and one at about 36 weeks to check the size of the baby.
- Internals - They do not do internals at all here, unless you are exhibiting signs of labour.
It's not important - we are all getting great care, it's just so surprising to me :) .
I have horrible leg cramps this morning. I'm finding sleeping so hard. My hips are killing me, and I cannot lie on my back even for a minute, cause I cannot breathe.
shortness of breath ~ I've had this since about week 15 of this pregnancy. It's really bad for me.
Dental visits??? ~ I have a toothache, and it may be a cavity. Does anyone know if they can even do any dental work while a woman is preggo?

Tomorrow we have our hospital tour and next week is my shower, I just can't believe I have known about these two events forever and they always seemed so far away… time is flying by ladies! Before we know it we will be holding our little babies in our arms.
By the way they are throwing a shower for me at work as well which is 7/28.
2jacks- I am really sorry to hear about your friend, I can only imagine how hard this has to be for her.
Cjones15- I have heard about the great customer service with Pre-Prego but I agree that shipping it would be a pain in the a$$. For what I have read the major concerns with this stroller is the basket is not very easy to access and the fact that putting the cup holder is pretty hard, but I just pushed it at the store (the 1000 times that I went stroller shopping) and I just think is so much easier to maneuver than most of the other ones, the two other selling points for me were the fact that is so light and that is easy to fold. Do you also have the car seat? I have read that the 2006 model can be used in other cars without the base… don’t want to sound stupid, but are they talking about driving around in your car without needing a base? It just sounds so bizzard to me
MSH and twink: I am glad to see I am not the only one going for NCB, my friends and family look at me like if I have three heads or something.
Batgirl- too funny about the stroller, DH picked the jogging stroller and I picked the 'day to day one', here is our jogging stroller

And by the way:
I'm not going to argue for a different color, however, because DH has taken so little interest in so many things. Its nice to have him have a preference about something!
Are you sure you are not talking about MY DH?? He does not say much about anything, so when he has an opinion I try not to argue.
Booksie- No idea of when, but thank you for asking the question because I am also concerned that mine is not on the right position, I need to remember to ask my doc on Friday.
RosegardenC- yay for passing the GTT.
UTChick- every time I read your posts about how concerned are you about your weigh I always think 'she should not worry about that' and two minutes later I find myself doing the same.
Portlandbride- thank you for the book recommendation, I am going to buy it today
{b}- add me to your weird muscular pain, I know that is definitely not the baby because is lower than that, but I wonder if is just that the muscles are stretching??
QOTD- yup! Me too! I noticed it in the last couple of weeks, is not too bad but I have the feeling the closer we get the worse it will be.
Is anyone doing professional belly shots?? I am considering doing them, specially because chances are this will be my first and last child, but I have never been a picture friendly person (other than in our wedding I don’t think I have ever taken professional pictures). Did some of the RO mommies do it the first time around? What are your thoughts? Did you feel comfortable? Do you think they were worth it?

babywish - When I called CS they were wonderful!!! They told me there was only one service center in the state of Texas so of course I figured it was going to be the farthest from my house. I really lucked out with it being a few minutes from my house. I've only pushed it around the house and I have to say it is SO much nice then my Graco travel system!! Well worth the added money. We have the Graco snug ride and I will use it as a car seat. The Peg reclines really well so I will probaby use it once the baby is a few weeks old and isn't so tiny. As far as using a carseat without a base you can do this with most models, if not all. There is a place for you to feed the seat belt so you can securly fasten it. We used our infant carrier like this once when we had to move the seat to a friends car. The base is much easier to deal with when taking the seat out of the car and I feel safer with the base but that is just my view. Using the seatbelt is safe.
Dental visits - I've always been encourage to go to the dentist while pg. My insurance does a call with all OB patients at the beginning and one question they asked is if I was keeping my regularly scheduled dentist visits. They said it was very important because gum disease (I think!) can be a cause of pre-term labor so they want all visits kept. With my 1st DD I had all 4 wisdom teeth cut out with no problem. The first two I was only 5 weeks and didn't even know I was pg. I was suppose to go back and have the other two the next week but found out I was pg. We decided to wait until after the pregnancy but I had a horrible infection and at 7 months I had to have the other 2 cut out. I wasn't allowed as much pain meds but honestly the 2nd time was much easier then the first. Always check with your doc because everyone is different.
QOTD - I've had a lot of shortness of breath. My friend asked me the other night on the phone why I was breathing so hard, I was just unloading the dishwasher! Sitting up very straight seems to help.
Yesterday was a totally crappy day. I had a lot of cramping. I had one contraction but felt a lot of tightness. I noticed I had to keep taking deep breathes when I was just sitting on the couch, I realized my tummy was getting tight every time and it felt like the air was being pushed out of me. I was able to time them last night. They were every 8-10 minutes. They were a little different then the BH I've had the whole time but they weren't painful. They ended around 2:00 this morning. If they start back up today I may call the doc to be on the safe side.

Professional belly shots - I am just starting to think about this. I didn't do it with DD, but since this may be my last pregnancy, I think I might do it.
Peg Perego infant seat - The older one can't be used in a car without the base. (Meaning, if you were to travel with the seat, you would have to bring the super heavy base.) I think the new ones, you can use it with the base or without.
Travel system stuff... - If you search the internet, you can usually find deals on last years models of strollers. If you decide you want to try for a Peg Perego, this may be a way to save money.
Shortness of breath - It is funny...I get winded going up one flight of stairs, but the other day I went to a water aerobics class...I was able to do the on hour class without breathing hard at all. Funny how taking all that weight off makes such a huge difference.
My next appointment is July 26th. :)

Oh my gosh-- I got my weekly e-mail pregnancy update from the American Pregnancy Association, and it's subject title was "Only 7 Weeks Left!"
Oh my gosh. I am SOOO not ready. The nursery, for instance, is still a junk room.
I just wanted to chime in about internal exams, esp. since Dawny pointed out they are not regularly done in Canada.
They don't really tell you a whole lot-- you can be dilated to 4 cm or whatever, but if you haven't started labor yet, you haven't started labor yet! And if you get checked by people with different hand sizes, it is likely that you may get varying reports as to how far dilated you are (I think this would be esp. traumatic in labor-- Nurse Jane says 4 cm, and an hour later, Nurse Betty (who has smaller hands) says only 3 cm...) Further, every time they stick their hands in your hoo-hah, there's another chance that bacteria is being introduced.
So it's obvious where I stand on this issue! :) But just know that you can refuse an internal exam whenever you want. Just do it nicely so you don't annoy your doctor/midwife.
OH... ETA: Is anyone else having a repeat performance of morning sickness? That's why I'm here at the computer and not doing the bazillion chores I have to do today-- I feel awful. :(

Internal exams - just wanted to give my 2 cents. With my first DD I was very young (19) and didn't know crap about labor. At my first internal (36 weeks) I was at a 2 and told I could go anytime. Of course I freaked out calling my mom telling her it could be any day! At my next appointment (37 weeks) I was at a 4! The doc was very promising it could be that day or within a few days. I didn't deliver until 41 weeks!! I was dilated to a 4 for 4 full weeks!!! It made the time go by so slow, I thought I would never have my baby. With my 2nd DD I was checked at 34 weeks (because of pre-term labor) and was at a 2, at 35 weeks I was at a 4. I stayed at a 4 until I had her at 37 weeks. Both times I was at a 5 when I got to the hospital.

Professional belly shots - I would love to do them, just don't know about the cost. I've been pretty happy with how I look pg, and I'd like to document it other than just with DH taking pictures. I wish I could just get a friend to take a few nice ones!
Travel System We may just go with the travel system at first and upgrade to a lighter stroller later on. We're still deciding, we may go try them out at BRU this weekend and see if we find one we like for the registry.
Shortness of breath - Yup, me too. I was just sitting, demonstrating an application to a co-worker a got out of breath. Forget about stairs... and in this humidity, it's just awful.

i just had belly shots taken yesterday! i'm a photographer by profession and therefore i have no photos of myself and lately, no photos of my own child (she runs away when i get my camera out). so we went to another photographer in the area for some family pics and she convinced me to do a few belly shots.

Craftgenius - Love them. I may have to do something similar with Sweetie! I also am not brave enough to go belly-bare, but I love it when other women do!

Craft - those are beautiful! You are a pretty preggo mama!! :) You got me motivated...I just e-mailed a photographer. I was going to do them myself, but now I am thinking I need to get DH there too.

Guess what came in the mail today - a packet from the hospital we will deliver at. The strange thing is the packet is the birth certificate form. They want it filled out now and mailed back. If we change our mind about what to name the baby we call them and they will make the change. That seemed so weird to me!

craft ~ I adore those pics. They are stunning!!! I regret not taking pics when I was pg with DS and now I feel it's kind of unfair if I do this time around.

I took my last final tonight for school - I am officially an MBA graduate and no longer a student!! Back to a normal life with a normal work week and no school!!!! Sorry - just a little excited. :D
Had my midwife appointment today. Was measured at 30.5 cm which she said was right on target. She felt for the baby and said he was head down so that is good. The orange drink for the GCT was gross, but I didn't throw it up so that was good. I should have results tomorrow.
Craft Beautiful pictures. The baby blocks idea is too cute!
Internal exams I didn't realize you could reject them. I am so wanting to do that, assuming that everything is progressing normally.
Shortness of Breath Been having that for some time, it hasn't gotten any worse, though, which makes me think the baby isn't high enough to really make me feel it yet.
Birthing Balls Umm, stupid question, but are there exercises or something to prepare for labor that you use the birthing ball for - or is it just for use during labor?

internals - with DD, I had my first one around 37 weeks, and another at 40 (I was a week late.) My dr. said I didn't have to do any between 37 and the 40, since I hadn't felt any contax or anything different.
I would definitely avoid as many as possible...they can be unpleasant! :( (Not painful per se...just not as easy as a pap.)

dental visits Yes you should go to the dentist. Esp if you think there could be infection. Once you are past the 1st tri- it is safe to use a min-mod amount on anesthetic too ( I am a dental hygienist)
internal exam With DS I never made it to an internal and I delivered at 38 weeks. But I do know my doc does them... So I wonder if I will make it this time- sort of hope not- that shaving thing is a pest!

Cosmic Birthing balls are the same as Pilates balls you can get one pretty much anywhere, I got mine at Target. They come in different sizes and you should get one that is correct for your height.
Cosmic - just wanted to second what RosegardenC said. I got mine at Target, I think it was about $20 or so. And for added enjoyment, my now 14 month old DD loves for me to sit her on it and move her around!
Thanks, ladies! I'll check Target today.
Gorgeous, Craftgenious!
Makes me TOTALLY want to do them now! Hmmm, I work at a newspaper, wonder if any of our shooters do this on the side...

craft great pictures!
i totally regret not doing pictures last time, i may do them this time, but i want some really artsy shots of just my tummy - no butt, no thighs, no arms ;)
birthing balls i didn't get around to using mine last time. i have heard though that they are great for bouncing and soothing your newborn -- wish i had known this with my colicky dd (god, please don't let this child be colicky).
internals i didn't have them last time, mw's generally don't do them. not sure if i'll turn them down w/ my ob -- i'll be really curious to know where i'm at, but at the same time i *really* hated having a pap while pg, my internal organs are just off-limits while pg.
shortness of breath the worst part of the day is when i need to carry dd upstairs, i swear the railing to starting to come out of the wall b/c i pull myself upstairs. it's also really bad after eating.
position it feels like this kid is in the exact same position as dd, butt under my right ribs, head down and back up.
yuck! got a notice from the hospital that we'll be responsible for $2000. of the birth and it has to be paid before we discharge, i miss having great insurance while working.

I just got back from my dr's appt. I have to go get an u/s done. I'm measuring 3 weeks ahead:eek: I don't know what that means. The dr said either it's the way he's positioned or he's just one big baby. I think he's big. He certainly feels big to me. Bigger than Aidan was. I'm going to make an appt this afternoon. Hopefully I can get in soon.
My b/p and everything else was good. My next appt is July 21st
Shortness of breath ~ Always. I can't walk 3 ft without feeling like I ran a marathon.
internals ~ They start at 36 weeks at my office. Not looking forward to them...they do hurt.
birthing balls ~ I have a pilates ball. I guess I could use that.

djones- wow! it must be hard for you to weigh the pros and cons of having rachel be a baby model. She is drop-dead gorgeous. That photo speaks volumes about the baby-friendliness of your photographer, too.
twink, i think, had asked:
Birthing Balls Umm, stupid question, but are there exercises or something to prepare for labor that you use the birthing ball for - or is it just for use during labor?
And I've been wanting to look into this too. I'm pretty sure there was a thread about this in the Pregnancy Forum. I'm gonna go look for it now, and if I find it, I'll give it a bump.
Yesterday was AWFUL for me. I had bottom-system problems all day (my version of M/S) and was exhausted and cranky. I yelled at my mom over the phone :o and got next to NOTHING done. What I did get done was ironing 16 of DH's dress shirts-- that's mainly all of them, they had to be washed and ironed en masse because they were smelly and wrinkly from the move-- and then I cried about being barefoot, pregnant, and in the kitchen ironing shirts. Not exactly a day in which I handled the transition fro busy academic grad student to mamasita house wife with the most grace. Today, so far, is going better. At least bambino isn't pummeling my insides.

Well, it looks like our boy's got himself a pediatrician!
Dionysios & I interviewed a pede on Wednesday. We both really liked Dr. G. She and her husband are the peds in the practice, plus they've got a Nurse Practitioner as well. They are in a brand-new building in the next town over (about 10 minutes from our house) and the practice is affiliated with the hospital where I'm giving birth. She and her husband have at least 2 kids, the youngest is 3. The practice serves 2100 patients, from newborn to college. The office hours are 8:30 am to "whenever we see the last sick kid."
The office staff answers phone calls during the day and triages the calls. Parents can always talk to the NP or one of the peds if they want to. There is no charge for calls, emergency or otherwise, any time of day.
After hours, there is a ped on call. They rotate the on-call with a group of 6 other peds, also affiliated with the hospital. On the weekends & holidays, they rotate which of the ped's offices is open to see people for emergencies. So I might have to drive to another office if he needs to see a doc on the weekend, but no big deal. The offices are probably 25-30 min away.
She was very patient with my 3+ page list of questions (ok, so emschwarz & kindermom's list!). She seems to fit in with the attitude I've noticed in my OB's practice and with birthing at this particular hospital: do what feels right for you and your child, and we'll guide and advise you. She feels that breast is best, but says she doesn't believe in making a woman feel guilty if she decides not to. I am going to give it my damndest, but if for whatever reason it does not work, I don't need aggro from my ped about it.
She feels that circumcision has religious and social reasons for doing it, though not medical, but obviously doesn't ask people why they choose to do it. She thinks that solids introduced at 5 months are ok, if the baby and parents are ready.
I asked about vaccinations and Thimerasol. She said that her practice only uses vaccinations that are Thimerasol-free. :)
She gave us the AAP's book on your kid's first year.
Now, on to find daycare. *thud*
I forget if I mentioned that my next appointment is July 21st.

aletheia, thanks for the compliments. we tend to think she's cute, too, but i have mommy-goggles on. the photographer *was* great and it was fun to see her studio. i'm a photographer, too, so we chatted about the industry and had a nice time.
dionysia, your ped sounds wonderful. you're way more prepared than i ever was. i just went to the ped my friend recommended and we happened to get lucky!

craft- those are great "preggo" pics. You & your husband look very, very happy.
delicious- your dd is gorgeous, the first picture with your legs & here is so adorable.
We are back from vacation. It was so nice but hard to chase two little ones around a non child proof house/beach/town while 31 weeks pregnant. Baby has dropped which is good for the lungs, bad for the bladder.

delicious ~ My gosh - she is beautiful. Makes me happy that we have decided on the name Rachel if the baby is a girl ;) .
My next appt. is July 24th I can't remember what time though, guess I'll have to call. It's been so long (June 8th) since I saw the OB!
Anyone still having cravings? I'm a fruit addict. I can't survive without it right now. I'd say that I eat 7-8 pieces a day (unless it's grapes, then it's more like 50+ pieces per day).
I'm drinking about 90 oz of water a day now. I wonder if that's enough. I love water anyway, so it's not an issue for me. But, of course, then I have to go pee-pee all the time!

Dawny -- I do think that Rachel is a beautiful name! I like that it's an older name but not completely uncommon.
I WISH I could crave fruit! Nope, I crave cheese and chocolate (But not together! EWWW!)
DH is out of town for the weekend. I got myself some Ben and Jerry's. Shhhhhh, don't tell the hubby! (I am so bad!)

Yesterday I had my an ultrasound and OB visit. The ultrasound went well...the baby had several "tests" she needed to pass. If she moved her extremities she scored 2 points, if the ultrasound tech could see her chest moving up and down...indicating that she is "practicing" breathing...she scored 2 points, if the blood flow through the cord was good she scored 2 points, and if she reacted to stimulation she scored 2 points...my baby girl scored a perfect 8 out of 8!!! :) After leaving the ultrasound, as usual I had to go to the office of my OB and wait for her to see me to do the usual pee in cup, take weight, blood pressure and brief talk with the doctor. Well...yesterday my doctor had an emergency surgury so she was not there...and they wouldn't just let me pee in the cup, take my weight and blood pressure read quick and leave, I had to wait 3 HOURS for the nurse practitioner to look at my ultrasound results and say, "Everything looks great, see you next week!" I was pissed! I probably would have been in there even longer if I had not told them, "Look, I have to get back to work, I have a meeting at 2:00"...which was a total lie! Anyway....despite all that, baby and I are doing well and I'm very happy about that. My blood pressure was 110/82, and to date I have gained a total of 9 pounds overall. I go back next Wednesday for another ultrasound and OB visit.
Thanks for the compliments on the pictures. I absolutely love them! I can't wait to get the actual prints. Well, next weekend is my shower!! So I will go out tomorrow to try to find a cute outfit for the shower! :) I still can't believe that I only have 6 weeks left!!!
cravings i haven't had many but yesterday I had to have Arby's. It was all I could take about all day long. DH finally gave in and took me around dinner as we were running late and didn't have time to cook anything.

Craftgenius - Gorgeous pictures!! I really hope DH and I can get some photos done, too!
djones Your daughter is adorable, love the pictures!
dionysia - Thanks for reminding me that I need to meet a pediatrician! Where did you get your list of questions from?
Cravings - Fruit is a big one for me, too, but I really love ice cream right now. Just plain chocolate, and it keeps the heartburn away.
Feeling good most of the time, although my swollen feet are a pain (they're even swollen in the mornings now) and I'm moving a bit slower these days. Taking walks helps, as does sleeping with a variety of pillows. If I don't have one between my knees, the pain in my hips wakes me up!
We signed up for our hospital tour for July 25th, same day as my next OB appointment.
Here are a couple of shots I captured from our 3d/4d u/s last week. I love seeing her little face!

Las week somone was inquiring about M/S coming back.. well count me in! I have been dry heaving every morning all week! UCK!
Cravings I have been craving yogurt covered walnuts (think white chocolate covered walnuts) which are impossible to find in stores now! I finally broke down and googled them and found them online, my order came yesterday! MMMM!!! I justify my sweet treat with the fact that walnuts are high in Omega 3's! LOL! Also Mexican food, I cant get enough mexican food! Something I usually LOVE and CANT STAND now is green salads of any variety! it doesnt matter the dressing or the fixings in it (ie chicken, croutons, beans, etc...) I just cant stand them! I eat them because I know I need the vitamins and the roughage but EEEWWWW!!!! DH laughs at me because I guess I actually make faces when I eat them! LOL!

We had our hospital tour last night, it was pretty cool even though I was surprised to be the one that was due last in our group. When I called they told me I was suppose to do the tour 2 months before the due date, well, there was a girl there that was due July 31st… can you say pushing it??? It was pretty cool because when we walked by the nursery there were two newborns, both boys and they were SO cute! One of them was right awake, and he kept staring at us… he was only a day old and we could not believe how awake he was. I am not sure who had asked QOTD about the standard time in the hospital post-labor, they told us last night that in my hospital is 48 hours for a vaginal labor and 3-5 days for C-section.
I had my appointment this am and everything looks good, baby is head down (thank God because he has been breached for the longest time) and everything measures as schedule. I am also happy about my weigh, seems like if it has stabilized in the last four weeks, so far I have put on 25 lbs which probably means I will end up putting on around 30lbs, I would have like to be closer to the 25 than to the 30 but after my second trimester I really thought I was going to end up around the 40 lbs which really scared the heck out of me! Two more biweekly appointments and after that I start with the weekly once with internal exams… fun!, I actually think I rather have them, not for any other reason that at least they can give you some 'idea' of how you are progressing, even though I know that is not always accurate.
Craft- I love the pictures, I am really considering getting some done. And yay for the 'honor student' ;) seems like she is ready to A all her test!
Dana- $2000?? Holy Crap! It really amazes me how expensive is health care in this country.
Deliciousjones- love the belly shot, and OMG she is beautiful! She is got the perfect face!
Aletheia- I think we are all in for some hormonal up and downs, don't be too harsh on yourself!
Dyonisia- I am definitely not as 'prepared' as you were, but I have my appt with my friend's pediatrician on Tuesday, I hope I like him because I have only heard good things about him and I will be lost if I need to start looking for someone else.
Dawny- I am also craving fruit, but I have always loved summer fruit, so I am not sure if is the pregnancy or just my usual me. And I hear you on the water, I usually drink between 60-80 oz of water a day and it is getting ridiculous how often I need to run to the bathroom.
Suiej- cute u/s! I can definitely see the cheeks!
QOTD1- When the dr was feeling the baby today it kind of 'hurt' me, not really hurt but it was definitely uncomfortable (he was just feeling my tummy), has any of you experience this? I guess I should have mentioned it to him but I didn't think of it until afterwards.
QOTD2- Are you guys going back to work after STD? If so, how long of STD do you have? I am seriously considering being SAHM for a year or so, I really don’t want to give up my career but every time I think about leaving him with somewhere else I just want to cry. I found someone I trust and know that she will be great with him, but for some reason lately I am having second thoughts… am I the only one??

Suiej: there's a thread in Parenting -> 0-18 months called "Questions to ask when interviewing a pediatrician."
QOTD2: Yes, I will be going back. I'll be out on 13 weeks STD/FMLA.
Di
QOTD1 I haven't felt any discomforte when my OB has felt the baby. I would probably mention it but more than likely it isn't something to worry about.
QOTD2 I plan to go back to work after mat leave. I get a year off but am not sure I will want to use the whole year. I am thinking somewhere between 10 and 12 months would be good. I would love to be able to stay at home after but working from home also. I really am not ready to give up my career at this point.
